Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, Welcome Back
- 0:25Speaker 1: to the Season with Peter Schreger, a brand new episode.
- 0:28Speaker 1: As we head towards the July fourth weekend, I'm hoping
- 0:32Speaker 1: that a lot of people are off the next few
- 0:34Speaker 1: days and they've got long drives to see friends or
- 0:38Speaker 1: long drives to visit family, and they're just gonna listen
- 0:41Speaker 1: and binge this podcast. So I was debating whether we
- 0:44Speaker 1: do one this week, and I'm like, you know what,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I think that might be the ideal time to do
- 0:48Speaker 1: a podcast heading into the holiday weekend. And we've got
- 0:50Speaker 1: a great guest in Kellen Moore, who's the new offensive
- 0:53Speaker 1: coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. I've known Kellen Moore
- 0:57Speaker 1: for many years as a coach, but obviously before then,
- 1:00Speaker 1: he was an NFL player with the Cowboys and the Lions,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and before that he was the quarterback at Boise State,
- 1:06Speaker 1: where he started all his years there and is currently
- 1:09Speaker 1: still still holds the record for most wins as a
- 1:13Speaker 1: quarterback in college football history. Still a young guy in
- 1:16Speaker 1: his early thirties and made a big move whether it
- 1:21Speaker 1: was voluntary or whether it was assumed that this is
- 1:24Speaker 1: what we had. He's no longer in Dallas after being
- 1:27Speaker 1: in Dallas his entire coaching career, and he is now
- 1:29Speaker 1: with the Los Angeles Chargers with Justin Herbert. We're going
- 1:32Speaker 1: to get into a deep conversation with Kellen in a minute.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I just wanted to give a quick preview of what
- 1:37Speaker 1: to look for this weekend, and this is fun. Monday
- 1:42Speaker 1: Night is the party of the year. I will not
- 1:44Speaker 1: be invited. I've never been invited. None of my colleagues
- 1:47Speaker 1: in the media have been invited. But a gentleman named
- 1:50Speaker 1: Michael Rubin, who owns the company Fanatics, throws a massive
- 1:55Speaker 1: banger of a party in Bridgehampton, New York, on the water,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and I would alert everybody now to get ahead of
- 2:02Speaker 1: it now as opposed to on Tuesday morning checking TMZ
- 2:07Speaker 1: and Page six and Doumois and whatever other sites you want.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But this is the party to be at, and I
- 2:13Speaker 1: know several NFL owners will be in attendance. I know
- 2:15Speaker 1: in other years NFL superstars have been there. I gotta
- 2:19Speaker 1: think you're gonna get your Joel Embiid, your jay Z,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Kevin Durant in recent years. Basically Michael has two parties
- 2:28Speaker 1: a year. One of them is the super Bowl party,
- 2:31Speaker 1: which I have been to and I was lucky enough
- 2:33Speaker 1: to be invited to. And I was told straight up,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you will never be invited to the July fourth party.
- 2:37Speaker 1: But the super Bowl party is like where they let
- 2:40Speaker 1: everyone in that you know at least knows Michael or
- 2:44Speaker 1: works with the NFL or fanatics, and I, you know,
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's still a cool party to be at, and it
- 2:49Speaker 1: was amazing this year to go. I basically sat in
- 2:52Speaker 1: the corner talking to Damar Hamlin, Micah Parsons, Jerry Jones,
- 2:58Speaker 1: David Tepper, and you know Rich Eysen, like random, like
- 3:03Speaker 1: you just pick it out of the thing. If you've
- 3:04Speaker 1: seen this guy on TV. Have you seen this person's name?
- 3:06Speaker 1: The headlines they're at the Michael Rubin super Bowl Party.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Then the list like whittles down a lot. And he
- 3:11Speaker 1: was actually on the Barstool podcast part of my take,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and he was explaining it that he only has seventy
- 3:18Speaker 1: five people get invited to this thing, but like it's
- 3:20Speaker 1: the leading influencers, and it's the leading athletes, and it's
- 3:24Speaker 1: the leading owners and sports So I'm curiously who made
- 3:27Speaker 1: the cut this year. I've told Michael in person that
- 3:30Speaker 1: I believe he should stream online on like I don't
- 3:33Speaker 1: know if they have a fanatics dot com, but they
- 3:35Speaker 1: should do an arrival show and have hosts and interview
- 3:40Speaker 1: the people coming in, Like this is a bigger party
- 3:42Speaker 1: than anything at the Oscars. The Oscars. Tom Cruse didn't
- 3:46Speaker 1: even show up to the Oscars this year. Some of
- 3:49Speaker 1: the other bigger stars we're not. I don't know who
- 3:50Speaker 1: the biggest. I guess Colin Ferrell is the biggest A
- 3:52Speaker 1: list star at the Oscars. I would argue that Michael's
- 3:55Speaker 1: party in the Hampton's in the vein of like the
- 3:59Speaker 1: p Diddy White party from years ago, It's going to
- 4:01Speaker 1: have a better guest list. So I'm curiously who got
- 4:04Speaker 1: the cut? Who made the cut, and then we'll see
- 4:06Speaker 1: who and all that, And that's the important stuff you're
- 4:08Speaker 1: listening to in July when it comes to NFL football.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Do we think the other news?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Go on here?
- 4:13Speaker 3: Following up from last week's show, Do we think Victor
- 4:16Speaker 3: Wee Binnana is gonna get an invite?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Ooh? Does Victor go? Does Wemby go?
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 4:22Speaker 2: He was in New York.
- 4:23Speaker 1: He's not anymore, but he could come back. I'm gonna
- 4:28Speaker 1: say no, I'm gonna say Wenby's got to earn those
- 4:30Speaker 1: stripes first. I think we're gonna get EMBIID. I think
- 4:33Speaker 1: we're gonna get hardened. Those guys are like, those guys
- 4:36Speaker 1: are mainstays at all these things, and I think you're
- 4:40Speaker 1: gonna get durant. NFL wise, Michael Parsons has been very
- 4:45Speaker 1: tight with with Michael Rubin. They've been seen out together.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think that will be a definite. And I'm wondering
- 4:50Speaker 1: if we get the big one. I don't know does
- 4:52Speaker 1: number TV twelve. He's no longer playing, he doesn't have
- 4:55Speaker 1: to be anywhere. He's a single man. From what we know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: is Tom Brady rolling through. We'll see. That's gonna be
- 5:00Speaker 1: the big question for me. Other quick things, the NFLPA
- 5:04Speaker 1: announced a new director. That was a bit of a surprise.
- 5:07Speaker 1: No one saw that coming. They announced their new executive director.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So we'll get into that at another date and we'll
- 5:13Speaker 1: talk about who he is and what he's experiences and
- 5:15Speaker 1: how that all went down. I find it pretty interesting.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And then a much smaller piece of news today in
- 5:21Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. They signed extensions with three of their top
- 5:26Speaker 1: front office people, which I think is interesting. Everyone thinks
- 5:28Speaker 1: the Buccaneers are going to rebuild eventually and this might
- 5:30Speaker 1: be one of those years where that after Brady, I'll go.
- 5:34Speaker 1: They signed big contracts with three different front office executives,
- 5:37Speaker 1: one of them Michael Greenberg known as Greeney around the Leak,
- 5:40Speaker 1: who handles all the salary cap stuff. He's an assistant
- 5:42Speaker 1: general manager. Along with John spy Tech, he's an assistant
- 5:44Speaker 1: general manager. These guys have been there for favorite and
- 5:46Speaker 1: then Jackie Davidson, who came over from the Jets, has
- 5:50Speaker 1: been there for at least five years, and she got
- 5:52Speaker 1: promoted to a new title as well. So very interesting
- 5:55Speaker 1: that the Buccaneers are like, hey, you know what. I
- 5:57Speaker 1: know it was Brady, but we also believe in the
- 6:00Speaker 1: front office we've built. With all that said, we've now
- 6:03Speaker 1: given you our July fourth party preview. And again it's
- 6:06Speaker 1: Monday night, so not July fourth, It's Monday, which is
- 6:09Speaker 1: July third. Keep your eyes on TMZ and the page
- 6:13Speaker 1: six and all that. This is the stuff we live for,
- 6:15Speaker 1: guys fanatics party. We'll see who was in the house,
- 6:17Speaker 1: who made the cut and who didn't, and then other
- 6:20Speaker 1: than that, we'll keep an eye on all the different
- 6:22Speaker 1: adventures from all these players and coaches and owners, all
- 6:26Speaker 1: enjoying their vacations right now because the NFL is shutting
- 6:30Speaker 1: it down for a few weeks before we get to
- 6:32Speaker 1: training camp with no further ado. I'm excited for this one.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Here's Kellen Moore. So excited for our next guest. As
- 6:42Speaker 1: I mentioned in the monologue, covered him as a player
- 6:44Speaker 1: when he was with the Lions, covered him as a
- 6:46Speaker 1: player when he's with the Cowboys. Then of course is
- 6:48Speaker 1: one of the great offensive minds for the Cowboys, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: now he's with the Los Angeles Chargers and he's on
- 6:53Speaker 1: the season with Peter Schriger. Kellen Moore, Welcome to the podcast.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Thanks for having me.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'm fired up, so excited to have you man, And
- 7:01Speaker 1: it's kind of a cool part of your career right now.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You've left the Nest if you will, You've been in
- 7:06Speaker 1: Dallas all these years and now you're joining the Los
- 7:08Speaker 1: Angeles Chargers. The announcement was made in January or so
- 7:13Speaker 1: tell us what it's been like first six months with
- 7:16Speaker 1: the Chargers and working with Justin Herbert specifically.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I know, it's been so much fun. I mean, yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 3: we're fortunate. We're in Dallas for eight years, very much
- 7:24Speaker 3: became home, and so all our kids pretty much they
- 7:27Speaker 3: only knew Dallas, and so we loved it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: There, had a ton of fun. Eight years in the NFL.
- 7:32Speaker 3: We know how the cycle of this thing sometimes goes,
- 7:35Speaker 3: and so we're fortunate and it worked out great.
- 7:38Speaker 2: It was awesome.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I was fired up to be able to come down
- 7:40Speaker 3: here to the Chargers to work with Brandon.
- 7:42Speaker 2: We kind of connected last.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Year we did a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys
- 7:46Speaker 3: and the LA Chargers, and so that was kind of
- 7:49Speaker 3: initial connection there, and so we connected, stayed in contact
- 7:52Speaker 3: like so many people do in this profession, and you know,
- 7:55Speaker 3: it happened fast, but it worked out great, and so
- 7:57Speaker 3: we were fired up to get down here. It was
- 7:59Speaker 3: a fun change of scenery and it's been just a
- 8:02Speaker 3: ton of fun just kind of building this thing from
- 8:05Speaker 3: the ground up with everyone just kind of collaborating and
- 8:07Speaker 3: starting with Justin and the rest of the staff, and
- 8:09Speaker 3: so it's been a ton of fun.
- 8:10Speaker 1: It was fun. I was at the combine in Indianapolis
- 8:12Speaker 1: and you walked by and I recognized your face, of course,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and I knew it was you be all Chargers stuff
- 8:16Speaker 1: on him, like, oh, that's different. Okay, I guess this
- 8:18Speaker 1: is it. And it only feels different for him too.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Is there a big ad justin period? I know, coaches
- 8:23Speaker 1: jump places place, But for someone like you who is
- 8:24Speaker 1: with the Cowboys for the end of your NFL playing
- 8:27Speaker 1: career and then of course all your coaching careers so far,
- 8:30Speaker 1: does it feel like it's a new beginning or does
- 8:32Speaker 1: it feel like, Hey, this is the gig and just
- 8:33Speaker 1: put me wherever I have to be.
- 8:35Speaker 2: It definitely feels new, which is exciting.
- 8:37Speaker 3: When I was in Dallas, I was fortunate I was around,
- 8:39Speaker 3: you know, Jason was the head coach at the time,
- 8:41Speaker 3: and I was fortunate to kind of be able to
- 8:43Speaker 3: transition into the coaching side because of him and Scott,
- 8:46Speaker 3: Lena Hand and those guys who were down there at
- 8:48Speaker 3: the time, and then then to stay through the transition
- 8:50Speaker 3: of Mike and so there's always kind of been an
- 8:53Speaker 3: established situation there, and so you know, it was kind
- 8:56Speaker 3: of a smoother transition, and so this one's been really
- 8:59Speaker 3: exciting just because it's really a you know, Brandon certainly
- 9:02Speaker 3: has runs the defense, and this is kind of a
- 9:04Speaker 3: clean slate on offense, and so it's been a lot
- 9:07Speaker 3: of fun just building it.
- 9:08Speaker 2: You know, taking.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Pieces that were already in place here, things that Justin's
- 9:12Speaker 3: done such a good job with that we want definitely
- 9:14Speaker 3: keep and keep incorporating and don't lose sight on any
- 9:17Speaker 3: of those things.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Bring some Dallas stuff.
- 9:19Speaker 3: And then the third part was just hey, let's go
- 9:21Speaker 3: explore together and let's have fun building this thing.
- 9:23Speaker 1: It's fun because I had Nathaniel Hackett on last week
- 9:25Speaker 1: and it's it's not a similar situation because he's been
- 9:27Speaker 1: with Rogers. And the only thing that I said was, now,
- 9:31Speaker 1: Salah is the defensive head coach, and you've kind of
- 9:33Speaker 1: have the green light. And for years he was with
- 9:35Speaker 1: Marone and then he was of course with Lafleur, who
- 9:37Speaker 1: were offensive coaches. You're similarly in that kind of boat,
- 9:40Speaker 1: which you just referenced that Staley's a defensive mastermind. He's
- 9:43Speaker 1: also a great head coach, but he's not going to
- 9:45Speaker 1: be calling plays over your head or he's not going
- 9:47Speaker 1: to have input on this stuff. This is maybe your
- 9:48Speaker 1: first opportunity where you're the guy to call the plays
- 9:51Speaker 1: around the offense. Without an offensive head coach above you
- 9:53Speaker 1: on the ORG.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Chart, it is a different dynamic.
- 9:55Speaker 3: It is fun just from the standpoint of, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 3: us just building it however we want, you know, it
- 10:01Speaker 3: is fun to kind of do those recap meetings. Brand
- 10:03Speaker 3: and I tend to gravitate to each other towards the
- 10:05Speaker 3: end of the day, just recap, okay, what happened on
- 10:07Speaker 3: each side of the ball, what we meet about, and
- 10:10Speaker 3: those are always really fun conversations. A lot of the
- 10:12Speaker 3: offensive coaches and has rolled their eyes and I'm going
- 10:14Speaker 3: into brands offs because they're like, he might be in
- 10:16Speaker 3: there for fifteen minutes, it might be there for two hours.
- 10:18Speaker 3: We really don't know, you know, And Brandon and I
- 10:21Speaker 3: just kind of start recapping all of a sudden. The
- 10:23Speaker 3: coolest part of it, I think is you get that
- 10:25Speaker 3: perspective of a defensive head coach, you know, and so
- 10:28Speaker 3: when you're talking to him and sharing kind of your
- 10:30Speaker 3: plan or vision, he can spin it from the other
- 10:34Speaker 3: side of you know, just kind of Okay, if we're
- 10:35Speaker 3: on the defensive side, this is how i'd see it,
- 10:37Speaker 3: this is this something you may want to consider, And
- 10:39Speaker 3: so all those conversations been just so much fun.
- 10:43Speaker 1: We have Good Morning Football during the year, and we
- 10:45Speaker 1: do the show five days a week and it's three hours,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and we're always on in the morning, and it's always
- 10:49Speaker 1: talking about the young quarterbacks, and it's like Mahomes, Burrow, Allen,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and I'm always chiming in Herbert Herbert, and it's like,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and Tilly has that big playoff success, and maybe Tilly
- 11:01Speaker 1: has that huge print. He might not be considered the
- 11:03Speaker 1: same way those guys are, But you've had a chance
- 11:05Speaker 1: to watch this young man for a couple of months. Now,
- 11:08Speaker 1: what does he bring to the table, Because I think
- 11:10Speaker 1: there are some throws that he throws at I don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: know if anyone else in the NFL can even attempt.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt. Justin's been phenomenal.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I think a the person, awesome person, one of the
- 11:21Speaker 3: simplest people I've ever met.
- 11:22Speaker 1: You know this explain that because I kind of know,
- 11:25Speaker 1: but I don't see it day to day.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I just see the one of the simpler people in
- 11:29Speaker 3: the world for his situation and the potential out there
- 11:32Speaker 3: for him as a person off the field.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Very simple person.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I Meanven came in when I got here, I mean,
- 11:38Speaker 3: he just basically did rehab. He'd come in for a
- 11:40Speaker 3: couple hours, do you rehab, you run into him, he'd
- 11:42Speaker 3: head out. Maybe you'd go up to Eugene and you know,
- 11:45Speaker 3: be back in the hometown. And other than that, you know,
- 11:48Speaker 3: he didn't explore a whole lot. And so he's been awesome,
- 11:51Speaker 3: awesome to work with. He's been a ton of fun
- 11:53Speaker 3: just collaborating on this thing. When you step on the field,
- 11:56Speaker 3: certainly you see the physical ability. I laugh, because as
- 12:00Speaker 3: a coach, you teached you know, this is the install
- 12:02Speaker 3: this is the progression. Here's some alerts, you know if
- 12:05Speaker 3: you get these certain looks. And then he just goes
- 12:07Speaker 3: out there and rips a throw and you just.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Kind of look at the back of TBS and say, hey,
- 12:10Speaker 2: first of all, don't try that.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Second of all, I would have never considered throwing that,
- 12:14Speaker 3: but maybe we should start considering that.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So it's pretty awesome.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, And I guess with your offense with him, Like
- 12:20Speaker 1: you guys put up such huge numbers in Dallas for years,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and there was a vertical game and there's a downfield game.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And if you read the Chargers blogs, you listen to
- 12:27Speaker 1: the Chargers podcast, the assumption is like, all right, it's
- 12:31Speaker 1: gonna be bombs away Air Coriel style here with Kellen
- 12:33Speaker 1: and Justin. Just to sneak peek a little bit, like,
- 12:36Speaker 1: what do you hope to unleash in this offense out
- 12:38Speaker 1: of this quarterback who obviously has that canon arm and
- 12:40Speaker 1: the smarts to know when to use it and when
- 12:42Speaker 1: not to.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, you know, certainly everyone wants us to
- 12:45Speaker 3: throw it deep every place. So we'll see if that works,
- 12:47Speaker 3: you know, we'll test it out.
- 12:49Speaker 2: But you know, I think what.
- 12:51Speaker 3: It allows us to do is, you know, Justin's such
- 12:53Speaker 3: a smart decision maker. It allows you to really call
- 12:56Speaker 3: it in an aggressive manner, and he does such a
- 12:58Speaker 3: great job. We always say, aggressively take what they give us, Like,
- 13:01Speaker 3: if they give us these shots, they give us something vertical.
- 13:03Speaker 3: We got these skill players that we feel really really
- 13:05Speaker 3: good about. Just take him, just go for it, you know,
- 13:07Speaker 3: and if not, take the completion, take the check down.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Austin is going to catch a check down and get
- 13:11Speaker 3: you another first down, and then we'll call another one.
- 13:13Speaker 3: And so I think the mentality of that has been
- 13:16Speaker 3: the way we've been kind of training at this certain
- 13:18Speaker 3: entire offseason and certainly. I think we got the guys
- 13:20Speaker 3: to be able to execute those things.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I I can hear the excitement in everybodys You
- 13:24Speaker 1: mentioned him being just a simple dude. Like I remember
- 13:27Speaker 1: during the pre draft build up, he goes on he
- 13:29Speaker 1: wins Rose Bowl MVP when Senior Bowl MVP shows up
- 13:33Speaker 1: and like blows everyone away at the combine, competes at
- 13:35Speaker 1: the combine, and the talk was like literally it was
- 13:38Speaker 1: and it was real was is he vocal enough? And
- 13:41Speaker 1: I talked to Staley and he's like vocal enough, Like
- 13:44Speaker 1: he's the leader, He's the outfit in our in our building,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and that that when you're a starter and you're a
- 13:50Speaker 1: husman guy and all this stuff that like you're talking about,
- 13:52Speaker 1: it's hard not to be a leader in the building,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and this guy is that leader. It's just maybe we
- 13:57Speaker 1: don't see it on commercials or on Instagram every day.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Would you agree that's kind of the case.
- 14:02Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I think, like anyone you grow into leadership, you know,
- 14:06Speaker 3: it gets it gets bigger and bigger, better and better.
- 14:09Speaker 3: However you want to view it each and every year.
- 14:10Speaker 3: I mean, this is fourth year, you know, and based
- 14:13Speaker 3: off everything I've seen experience with and around him. You know,
- 14:17Speaker 3: this year, he's been phenomenal. He's had presence, he's he's
- 14:20Speaker 3: been very open and willing to stand up in front
- 14:22Speaker 3: of the entire room on offense, share his perspective, give
- 14:26Speaker 3: give feedback to players. When he steps on the field,
- 14:29Speaker 3: there's there's no real question who's who's the alpha, who's
- 14:33Speaker 3: the leader of this thing? He takes command, takes charge,
- 14:36Speaker 3: and it's been really fun to see.
- 14:38Speaker 1: They played the Raiders on a Thursday night two years
- 14:40Speaker 1: ago and it was the first time Akman and Buck
- 14:42Speaker 1: were doing a Chargers game with Herbert and he made
- 14:45Speaker 1: a pass across his body and Aikman just like is like,
- 14:47Speaker 1: oh my god, he just like laws it. And I'm like,
- 14:51Speaker 1: that's what he has the capability of. And then you
- 14:53Speaker 1: add in this what I would call just what seems
- 14:56Speaker 1: like a professional football team, but also potentially an NBA
- 15:01Speaker 1: starting five at receiver with the height that you guys have,
- 15:03Speaker 1: it's a really cool mix. Then you add in Quentin Johnson,
- 15:06Speaker 1: who a big dude. You got to be excited to
- 15:08Speaker 1: have all these tools and these weapons here with this offense.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Yeah, com and versatility on the offense, which I think
- 15:13Speaker 3: we're really really excited about, you know, use guys in
- 15:15Speaker 3: different positions, align them in different ways, and utilize all that.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Certainly we'd like to say, like, you know, we got
- 15:22Speaker 3: so much height on this team, we're gonna be throwing
- 15:24Speaker 3: in a different jet stream, you know, like these guys.
- 15:27Speaker 3: You know, we got Q and Keenan and Mike and
- 15:30Speaker 3: Gerald and you know, sneak Austin in there from the backfield,
- 15:33Speaker 3: and yeah, all these other guys that are our depth guys,
- 15:36Speaker 3: and so it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And then a great offensive line. We know that Slater
- 15:40Speaker 1: goes down and then this kid Seller shows up last year,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and then obviously with the rookies, ion like their offensive
- 15:45Speaker 1: line was awesome last year despite major injuries.
- 15:48Speaker 2: One of my favorite things was the when I first
- 15:51Speaker 2: got here.
- 15:51Speaker 3: We spent our first week and because the offensive staff
- 15:54Speaker 3: was pretty much the same other than the quarterback coach
- 15:56Speaker 3: Doug Nasmeyer came from Dallas, it was the same staff
- 15:59Speaker 3: that've been here last year. So the first week I
- 16:01Speaker 3: basically just sat there and listened to everyone, and so
- 16:04Speaker 3: it was a really cool They basically went through the
- 16:05Speaker 3: roster and one gave their perspective on every player that
- 16:09Speaker 3: was currently on our roster. When we got to the
- 16:11Speaker 3: offensive line, it was so much fun to just to
- 16:13Speaker 3: hear the journey that all these guys took and you
- 16:16Speaker 3: know these uh you know Jamari pop in there and
- 16:19Speaker 3: you know, just.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Was he six, a sixth round pick and played left
- 16:22Speaker 1: tacker in the NFL. Yeah, the rookie, Like that's incredible.
- 16:25Speaker 3: And just like from the first snap, just like, okay,
- 16:27Speaker 3: I'll take over this left tackle spot. That's nothing big
- 16:29Speaker 3: for me. I played at Georgia. I played four years
- 16:31Speaker 3: at Georgia. Nothing's that big to me. But it's a
- 16:34Speaker 3: really cool group. You know, it's a really young group
- 16:36Speaker 3: that's developing and kind of coming together. And then you
- 16:38Speaker 3: got Corey in the middle kind of as that veteran
- 16:40Speaker 3: anchor center, and so I think it's like this perfect
- 16:43Speaker 3: blend for those guys.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I love it. Your story is so cool. Take us
- 16:48Speaker 1: back to Prosser, Washington. What that town is? How many
- 16:51Speaker 1: people and how in the world you made it out
- 16:54Speaker 1: of there to be, you know, an NFL offensive coordinator
- 16:57Speaker 1: and obviously seem to be a head coach.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yeah, So we were just there this past weeks. Make
- 17:02Speaker 3: our rounds through Prosser, Washington. If anyone knows that, you
- 17:05Speaker 3: shouldn't he shouldn't know where that is. But it's a
- 17:09Speaker 3: town of six thousand people southeastern Washington. It's not the
- 17:12Speaker 3: rainy Seattle. It's the desert on the east side. No
- 17:15Speaker 3: one knows that. Half the people in the world don't
- 17:17Speaker 3: know there's a desert.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I did not know there was a desert part of Washington.
- 17:20Speaker 1: This is a mission, all right.
- 17:21Speaker 3: It's all agriculture and all that good stuff. But small
- 17:24Speaker 3: little town. My dad was our high school coach, so
- 17:27Speaker 3: he was the head football coach for for really, you know,
- 17:30Speaker 3: forever until we got to college. But uh, it kind
- 17:33Speaker 3: of had that Friday night lights feel to it, you know,
- 17:35Speaker 3: like that's that's how I grew up. I grew up
- 17:37Speaker 3: wanting to be a Prosper Mustang all honestly, I didn't
- 17:39Speaker 3: really you know, college or something. Yeah, you'd love to
- 17:41Speaker 3: do that, you'd love to do the NFL, but like
- 17:43Speaker 3: Prosper Mustangs, Like that's the best thing ever. Those are
- 17:45Speaker 3: all my idols growing up, you know, and.
- 17:47Speaker 1: So made me a couple of legends from the program
- 17:49Speaker 1: from before you. I love this stuff.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, well, I'm number eleven because a Dan
- 17:53Speaker 3: Marshatt he was, he was number eleven.
- 17:55Speaker 2: He's a receiver.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I was getting right into the right into the youth
- 17:58Speaker 3: football stage. And I was like, Dan's my guy.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I want to forget Randy Moss, forget Chris Carter, forget
- 18:05Speaker 1: any of the sea. That's my guy.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Marsha Yep, yep, damn.
- 18:09Speaker 3: So, uh, you know there's all these quarterbacks Tyler Thomas
- 18:12Speaker 3: who there weren't a ton of guys who ever like
- 18:15Speaker 3: went to like Division one.
- 18:16Speaker 2: There was only a couple of us. Tyler Thomas ended
- 18:18Speaker 2: up going.
- 18:18Speaker 3: To Oregon State. He was a quarterback. Man, I can
- 18:22Speaker 3: go on and on, can I give you every single
- 18:24Speaker 3: quarterback from But.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I love that. And this is a town that I've
- 18:27Speaker 1: I've read up on it. Two stoplights right, two traffic lights?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, we upgrade. We got three now three?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Okay? Are we talking like an outback? And Applebee's is
- 18:35Speaker 1: that even there? Or is it like the general store?
- 18:37Speaker 2: No?
- 18:37Speaker 3: No, McDonald's, KFC, Taco Bell. It's a it's a hybrid,
- 18:41Speaker 3: which is unique.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Starbucks.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Uh, the Bucks made it there right from stars.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta have a Starbucks. It's kind of on
- 18:49Speaker 3: your way from one place to the other. They snuck
- 18:51Speaker 3: a Starbucks in there, but other than that, a couple
- 18:53Speaker 3: of local restaurants and that's about it.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And I know you would go to these Boise State
- 18:58Speaker 1: youth football camps, right, is that part of your childhood?
- 19:00Speaker 1: And I guess your father would bring you to the
- 19:04Speaker 1: blue field. Like where did that Boise stay thing come from?
- 19:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so when I was really young, my dad, uh
- 19:10Speaker 3: so he was our obviously our head football coach.
- 19:12Speaker 2: They would go to like a team football camp.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So they'd bring the entire high school team to these
- 19:15Speaker 3: camps and they spend a week there and early it
- 19:18Speaker 3: was always at Boise, so they'd always go there. Uh
- 19:21Speaker 3: So we always kind of have this uh you know,
- 19:23Speaker 3: fondness of Boise. I remember it as a child child.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And so as a high school coach's kid, you kind
- 19:29Speaker 3: of what your spring breaks are and what your summers
- 19:31Speaker 3: are is pretty much hopping around to college's. Uh spring
- 19:34Speaker 3: break was usually you know, going to some college practices
- 19:36Speaker 3: and just got you know, rolling with all these high
- 19:38Speaker 3: school coaches that your dad is around. And so that
- 19:41Speaker 3: was my childhood that that was very much normalized football
- 19:44Speaker 3: for me and Uh, you know, that's that's what I did.
- 19:47Speaker 1: When you got recruited to Boise State. Is this because
- 19:50Speaker 1: I don't have the timeline in front of me. So
- 19:52Speaker 1: everyone remembers the Fiesta Ball. It's Adrian Peterson and Oklahoma
- 19:55Speaker 1: and Jared Zabranski and Ian Johnson and Boise knockoff. Were
- 19:59Speaker 1: you on that team? Were you being recruited to be
- 20:01Speaker 1: on that team? I know you came after Zabranski, so
- 20:03Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you were like a red shirt
- 20:05Speaker 1: or your back up or what.
- 20:06Speaker 2: No.
- 20:06Speaker 3: So I'm a senior in high school. I'm at the game.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I'm down in that end zone.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I went to the game. I was already committed to
- 20:12Speaker 3: Boise so I was. I was all wrapped up and
- 20:16Speaker 3: ready to go. And yeah, I was at the game.
- 20:19Speaker 3: It was awesome.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Saw the proposal at the end that was in the
- 20:22Speaker 1: end zone you were in or.
- 20:23Speaker 2: No, yep, I was right down that end zone. Yep.
- 20:25Speaker 1: So you get there and then Boise he becomes one
- 20:30Speaker 1: of the primitive programs in the country. You guys would
- 20:32Speaker 1: roll off the wins for the listeners. You are the
- 20:35Speaker 1: all time leader and wins as a quarterback, which is
- 20:38Speaker 1: an amazing feat and it comes up anytime a young
- 20:40Speaker 1: quarterback like Desmon Rider came out. I think he's third maybe,
- 20:43Speaker 1: And I was mentioned literally every time Ridder had anything
- 20:46Speaker 1: going on. Every time tell you somebo the Falcons, your
- 20:49Speaker 1: experience in Boise, Idaho and playing for for that team,
- 20:53Speaker 1: what would say your biggest takeaway was from that whole
- 20:55Speaker 1: entire four year span.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just this utopia of a culture. Chris
- 21:01Speaker 3: Pierce is the absolute best. He has this perfect blend
- 21:05Speaker 3: of you know, he spends so much time, I think
- 21:08Speaker 3: on the culture and the environment. He really calls it
- 21:11Speaker 3: an environment because everyone needs the word culture, but just
- 21:14Speaker 3: just building this environment that allows everyone to kind of blossom.
- 21:17Speaker 3: And so I always remember two things there, one being
- 21:21Speaker 3: you know, how much time he spent on building the program,
- 21:24Speaker 3: building the right kind of people. The you know, every Friday,
- 21:28Speaker 3: you know, we'd play on Saturdays, obviously, and every Friday night,
- 21:30Speaker 3: you know, you have that team meeting that everyone's supposed
- 21:32Speaker 3: to get all jacked up and fired up for a
- 21:34Speaker 3: football game on you know, right, and you're all college kids,
- 21:37Speaker 3: and we'd spend the whole time and he's talking about life,
- 21:39Speaker 3: you know, like that's what the whole means about something
- 21:41Speaker 3: different about life. It was called Bronco Magic and I
- 21:44Speaker 3: still have the sheets of paper, and it was like,
- 21:46Speaker 3: you know, it was one of the coolest things that
- 21:48Speaker 3: I thought brought perspective.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So Harry got this huge game, huge game against the
- 21:52Speaker 1: Vada coming up, and you've got the two ranked teams.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Give me on national TV, and he's given you life
- 21:56Speaker 1: lessons the night before game.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, some poem about life. And it was awesome.
- 22:03Speaker 3: It was absolutely awesome. It was also a unique team
- 22:06Speaker 3: because as most people probably no Boise, Idaho doesn't exactly
- 22:09Speaker 3: have twenty Division one players rolling around, you know, the state,
- 22:12Speaker 3: and so it was this super diverse team. I mean,
- 22:15Speaker 3: we had people from all across the country, all across
- 22:18Speaker 3: the world.
- 22:18Speaker 2: We had guys from.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Netherlands, Canada, Florida, New Jersey, California.
- 22:23Speaker 2: You know. I was kind of part of.
- 22:24Speaker 3: The little small Northwest crew, and so you have this
- 22:28Speaker 3: huge diversity of this team, and so it's a really
- 22:30Speaker 3: cool melting pot of just bringing all these guys together.
- 22:32Speaker 3: And I think that's one of the things that I
- 22:33Speaker 3: always we were talking about as a team as an
- 22:36Speaker 3: offense right before we broke about how this football thing
- 22:40Speaker 3: brings us to people we never connect with them any
- 22:43Speaker 3: other way. And that's one of the coolest things, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 3: Like even with the Chargers right now, like the guys
- 22:47Speaker 3: that you get to meet, it's like I would have
- 22:49Speaker 3: never met this person if I wasn't a part of
- 22:51Speaker 3: this cool NFL journey or college football journey, whatever it
- 22:54Speaker 3: may be.
- 22:54Speaker 2: And so that's what's really fun.
- 22:56Speaker 1: It's awesome. I always say that, you know, there's all
- 22:59Speaker 1: these issues in the country, and there's divide and division,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and that's fine. It exists, it's going to exist. Kind
- 23:04Speaker 1: of go in that locker room and you see that
- 23:06Speaker 1: they're like there's almost like a glimmer of hope, Like,
- 23:08Speaker 1: all right, if that guy can gel with that guy
- 23:10Speaker 1: and they could put it all together despite their difference
- 23:13Speaker 1: in backgrounds, maybe there's a chance, you know, like and
- 23:15Speaker 1: I don't know if that's too pie in the sky,
- 23:17Speaker 1: but I think that's what.
- 23:17Speaker 2: You're getting at No, we certainly feel that way.
- 23:20Speaker 1: All right, left handed quarterback obviously at Boise was that
- 23:25Speaker 1: held against you think as you entered the NFL draft
- 23:27Speaker 1: as that thing kind of faded away. I think at
- 23:30Speaker 1: one point the last couple year before two of there
- 23:32Speaker 1: were no left handed quarterbacks.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It reminds me of a question, you know, it's like
- 23:36Speaker 1: a ridiculous question, like, so you know, what's it like
- 23:39Speaker 1: being a left handed quip? But well, I've always been
- 23:40Speaker 1: a left handed quarterback obviously.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 1: But there were you know, Steve Young, Michael Vick, all
- 23:45Speaker 1: those guys probably when you were growing up, and then
- 23:47Speaker 1: it kind of faded away.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, it's it's definitely. I think a lot
- 23:51Speaker 3: of people got smarter. They went to baseball. You know,
- 23:53Speaker 3: you're a left the ls or stuff, spably go play
- 23:54Speaker 3: that sport instead. But no, yeah, it's certainly something that
- 23:59Speaker 3: I think is a unique dynamic. To be honest, I
- 24:01Speaker 3: think there was some feedback going into the NFL that like, hey,
- 24:04Speaker 3: if our starter is not a lefty, like we really
- 24:06Speaker 3: don't want to have a lefty behind him, you know.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And now the game was a lot more under center.
- 24:10Speaker 3: The game has become a lot more of a shotgun game,
- 24:12Speaker 3: and so it's I think there's more flexibility and it's
- 24:15Speaker 3: an easier transition. But uh yeah, when I got in
- 24:18Speaker 3: the league, I think there are six or seven lefties.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Let's go through them, because I mean it was probably you.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And then I'm thinking like Tyler fig Pin or Palco,
- 24:26Speaker 1: which one of those one of those things?
- 24:27Speaker 3: Left Canfield from Oregon State Sean, Yeah, Sean Canfield, Michael Vick,
- 24:35Speaker 3: Tim Tebow, Matt Lionert, Pat White might have been you know,
- 24:41Speaker 3: had actually coaches with us.
- 24:43Speaker 2: So we got a couple of lefties on the staff.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Yeah that's cool.
- 24:45Speaker 3: We're fire if we got to keep the lefties together.
- 24:48Speaker 3: But uh, there's one or two more. But at one
- 24:51Speaker 3: point it was a little bit more normal and lo
- 24:53Speaker 3: and behold. Uh we went through a point where I
- 24:55Speaker 3: think there's a couple of years, two or three years
- 24:57Speaker 3: where we have no lefties.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Finally two came and saved the day. So hopefully we
- 25:01Speaker 2: get a couple more.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Uh yeah, the way that the world moves whatever. So
- 25:05Speaker 1: the Dolphin job becomes open after they let go Brian Floora.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Do you interviewed for that job? Do you come in
- 25:10Speaker 1: with like a PowerPoint deck saying like I am the
- 25:12Speaker 1: lefty quarterback guy, Like what are we doing here? I
- 25:15Speaker 1: know the job especially goes to Mike McDaniel and it's
- 25:17Speaker 1: all going to work out for everyone. But yeah, you
- 25:19Speaker 1: gotta think that was your pitch right. Yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a lefty. He's a lefty. You know, I'm
- 25:23Speaker 2: the one guy I can teach him.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I can feel it.
- 25:25Speaker 2: This is it.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It is interesting though that, like you said, the baseball stuff,
- 25:30Speaker 1: and you know, we talk about specialization in sports, and
- 25:34Speaker 1: now youths are told, like, you pick this one sport.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I've heard you speak on it before. You don't believe
- 25:39Speaker 1: in that, right, play all sports.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a small town kid.
- 25:43Speaker 2: We played every sport. We grew up together. It's the
- 25:46Speaker 2: same pack of kids. We went from football to basketball
- 25:49Speaker 2: to baseball.
- 25:49Speaker 3: At one point, I eventually kind of, you know, didn't
- 25:52Speaker 3: do baseball by stuck with football and basketball the way
- 25:54Speaker 3: to the end.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And so I think it's huge. I think it's so important.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I think there's too many examples across our league, across
- 26:00Speaker 3: other leagues of guys who played a lot of different
- 26:03Speaker 3: things and all those skills kind of translate to something
- 26:05Speaker 3: in the.
- 26:05Speaker 1: End it works out. One of my favorite men in
- 26:09Speaker 1: the NFL, and I know a mentor of yours, is
- 26:10Speaker 1: Jim Caldwell. When you were in Detroit, you obviously were
- 26:14Speaker 1: under his guys, and he speaks with such a I
- 26:18Speaker 1: don't reverence Like I don't even know how to say it.
- 26:21Speaker 1: When Jim talks, like everyone listens and he doesn't speak
- 26:23Speaker 1: off and he's not yelling, he's not I guess my
- 26:26Speaker 1: question is just the Jim Caldwell experience for those who
- 26:28Speaker 1: don't know, Like when you play in that offense on
- 26:30Speaker 1: that team with him as a head coach, that soothing voice,
- 26:33Speaker 1: and yet those life lessons he always gives.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it was such a cool experience for me because
- 26:39Speaker 3: being in the NFL, you think college football NFL like
- 26:42Speaker 3: they got They're so different, right, and so you're fortunate
- 26:44Speaker 3: to be around this Chris Peterson experience which is second
- 26:47Speaker 3: to none. And then you meet Jim in the NFL.
- 26:50Speaker 3: And the first time I met him, spent fifteen minutes
- 26:53Speaker 3: with him. He knew my name, he knew everything about me.
- 26:55Speaker 3: I'm a third string QB, barely hanging out on, hanging
- 26:58Speaker 3: on like he has no reason to even know who
- 26:59Speaker 3: I am, Like, you know, like I should be the
- 27:01Speaker 3: one to introducing myself. He spends fifteen minutes just talking
- 27:04Speaker 3: about life, talking about you know, family and all that,
- 27:06Speaker 3: so that has nothing to do with football. Knows everything
- 27:08Speaker 3: about you, like incredible, And then you get to the
- 27:11Speaker 3: point of him just being the leader and the coach.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I thought it was really cool for me because at
- 27:16Speaker 3: that point I really felt confident that, like, I want
- 27:18Speaker 3: to get into coaching, that's kind of the.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Part I want to take.
- 27:21Speaker 3: At that point, Yeah, I think college was kind of confirmation.
- 27:23Speaker 3: But then when you're in the NFL, you know, it's like, Okay,
- 27:27Speaker 3: that's a different experience in college football, and can you
- 27:29Speaker 3: really do it in a certain way, you know, or
- 27:32Speaker 3: does everyone just you know, college and NFL there they're
- 27:34Speaker 3: just different beasts and he can't do it that way.
- 27:37Speaker 3: His presence and his ability to kind of in a
- 27:39Speaker 3: more mild manner, have such command and presence in an
- 27:43Speaker 3: NFL locker room on an NFL field. It was really
- 27:46Speaker 3: awesome for me to see that, because, you know, I
- 27:48Speaker 3: felt like I was a little bit more maybe that
- 27:50Speaker 3: personality trait, you know, as far as more of a
- 27:52Speaker 3: mild like I'm not a you know, yeller screamer all
- 27:55Speaker 3: the time, like you know, but like Jim just had
- 27:57Speaker 3: that perfect balance of like he picked and choose his
- 28:00Speaker 3: words really wisely, and when he talked, everyone listens, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 3: and it was incredible to be a part of it.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Was there one piece of advice that you've held onto
- 28:08Speaker 1: or one line or one statement or one quote that
- 28:11Speaker 1: you kind of brought with you along the way. I
- 28:12Speaker 1: hate to put you on the spot.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 28:16Speaker 3: There's so many, you know, or Loski and so you know,
- 28:19Speaker 3: when I was there as Matthew, Dan and myself, I
- 28:22Speaker 3: just remember these team meetings and I just remember all
- 28:26Speaker 3: the informations.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I couldn't keep up. You know, I'm sitting there trying
- 28:29Speaker 2: to write all these notes of.
- 28:30Speaker 3: All these you know, he always called it the charge
- 28:32Speaker 3: in the season, and every like Wednesday could have some
- 28:34Speaker 3: sort of like piece and it would be something. I'm
- 28:37Speaker 3: just sitting there trying to like write these notes quick
- 28:39Speaker 3: as possible. Now I'm looking over at Dan, like what
- 28:40Speaker 3: did you get? You can catch like I'm trying to
- 28:43Speaker 3: piece this whole thing together because I want all this information.
- 28:46Speaker 3: But he had a really cool piece. He had a
- 28:48Speaker 3: high cost for low living. It was a piece that
- 28:50Speaker 3: he utilized. I'm sure a lot of people have heard
- 28:52Speaker 3: about it. Just as far as the off the field stuff,
- 28:55Speaker 3: the players, you know, have to be aware of in
- 28:57Speaker 3: the NFL that there's a high cost for low living
- 28:59Speaker 3: and the things that we do off the field that
- 29:01Speaker 3: create headlines and can have huge impacts on your career.
- 29:04Speaker 3: There's a high cost for those and so he tried
- 29:06Speaker 3: to educate everyone in the way that Jim does, which
- 29:08Speaker 3: is incredible, just educating those guys on something. Some things
- 29:11Speaker 3: are just you know, you got to make smart decisions.
- 29:13Speaker 3: We understand right and wrong. There's others that are you know, hey,
- 29:16Speaker 3: these are tricky situations. Social media has some really tricky things,
- 29:18Speaker 3: and so he tried to educate guys on that, and
- 29:20Speaker 3: I thought it was incredible.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Your favorite Matthew Stafford throw while you were in Detroit?
- 29:28Speaker 1: Is there a game a moment where you can go
- 29:30Speaker 1: back and say you're standing on the sidelines, either you're
- 29:33Speaker 1: dressed or or not, and you're just like, holy moly,
- 29:35Speaker 1: what was that? Because I, as I often say when
- 29:37Speaker 1: I interviewed Code, it's like I was a sideline reporter
- 29:40Speaker 1: and I was not on the A crew. So I
- 29:41Speaker 1: got a lot of Lions games under my belt. I
- 29:43Speaker 1: was very there's a lot of Hey, what's up to
- 29:45Speaker 1: Sam Martin going on on the sidelines there? So is
- 29:49Speaker 1: there a Stafford throw that sticks out? There's one that
- 29:51Speaker 1: I'll never forget that. Nickveigh and I still like are
- 29:54Speaker 1: giddy over that. When they played Washington and you guys
- 29:57Speaker 1: were Detroit. Obviously he threw on in a game winner
- 29:59Speaker 1: to Ankwon Bolden. That was just insane, that like, how
- 30:01Speaker 1: does he pull it out? But you saw it every
- 30:03Speaker 1: game and something that comes to mind just how amazing
- 30:05Speaker 1: that arm talent.
- 30:07Speaker 3: There are a lot, and I'll give you two. The
- 30:10Speaker 3: first one is against the Bengals. I think this is
- 30:14Speaker 3: two thousand and thirteen, I'm gonna guess. So it was
- 30:18Speaker 3: a half rolls like a sprint out to the right.
- 30:20Speaker 3: As we're rolling out and we're just gonna run a
- 30:23Speaker 3: double move to Calvin Johnson and he's gonna run a
- 30:25Speaker 3: little corner post and we're gonna kind of try and
- 30:28Speaker 3: roll out to the right and then throw back to
- 30:29Speaker 3: the left. And first of all, to throw is tremendous, Right,
- 30:33Speaker 3: he just flicks this thing. He's rolling out to his
- 30:35Speaker 3: right and he's throwing it to his left and he's
- 30:37Speaker 3: just flicking this thing fifty sixty yards And as you're
- 30:40Speaker 3: looking down the field, you're like, that guy doesn't really
- 30:42Speaker 3: look open.
- 30:43Speaker 2: You know, I'm on the sideline I'm just the backup
- 30:44Speaker 2: guy hanging out. It doesn't really look open.
- 30:46Speaker 3: It's about three or four Bengals jerseys down there, you know,
- 30:50Speaker 3: George I Loka a Boise State Bronco being one of
- 30:53Speaker 3: them down there, and he just throws this sucker throws
- 30:56Speaker 3: up in the air and you just see Calvin just
- 30:57Speaker 3: run right through all these people go up, leap it,
- 31:00Speaker 3: grab this ball. I remember talking to George after the game.
- 31:03Speaker 3: He's like, I don't know what we can do. I
- 31:05Speaker 3: can't stop this guy. And it was a moment of
- 31:08Speaker 3: like sometimes like you know what, it's players, not plays,
- 31:10Speaker 3: you know, like those two.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Guys are super human at what they're doing. It's fun
- 31:14Speaker 1: to watch.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, no doubt.
- 31:16Speaker 1: What was the other one?
- 31:17Speaker 3: And then the second one I would think of is
- 31:19Speaker 3: we played in London in twenty fourteen.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Golden tates on the outside.
- 31:23Speaker 3: We just ran like three verts, it's like third and forever,
- 31:27Speaker 3: and he rips a ball down the sideline.
- 31:30Speaker 2: He kind of drops back, it's a little bit of depth.
- 31:32Speaker 3: He steps up in the pocketing and just rips this
- 31:34Speaker 3: ball down the right sidelines to Golden. I mean, it's
- 31:38Speaker 3: gotta be fifty yards frozen rope. I don't think the
- 31:40Speaker 3: ball is more than ten twelve feet off the ground
- 31:41Speaker 3: the entire time, just rips it right between these cover two,
- 31:44Speaker 3: safety and corner. I don't think anyone even considered he'd
- 31:47Speaker 3: actually throw that in that situation, and he just rips
- 31:49Speaker 3: this thing right in the end zone.
- 31:51Speaker 2: It was incredible.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So then you finish your time with Detroit,
- 31:56Speaker 1: you go to Dallas. Scott Lenihan was there, and I
- 31:59Speaker 1: imagine that's one of the reasons why it was a
- 32:01Speaker 1: natural thing. I don't have it in front of me.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I know that Romo was there obviously, and then the
- 32:05Speaker 1: year Romo got hurt and Dak goes in, you were
- 32:08Speaker 1: hurt also that summer, if I'm not mistaken. So it's
- 32:11Speaker 1: like this like sliding doors moment, where like who knows
- 32:13Speaker 1: if you had had your opportunity do you do? Do
- 32:15Speaker 1: you ever lose sleep on that and say, hey, you know,
- 32:17Speaker 1: the starter goes down, but I too, the backup was injured.
- 32:20Speaker 1: So then Dak Prescott gets a chance to show a
- 32:22Speaker 1: case with skills. How did you cope with that as
- 32:24Speaker 1: a player at the time.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I don't lose sleep now because I think everything happens
- 32:28Speaker 3: for a reason, and it kind of led me to
- 32:30Speaker 3: this coaching thing, which I'll get to. But at the time, Yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 3: So twenty fifteen, I played a couple games. At the end,
- 32:36Speaker 3: we were kind of, you know, we struggled that year.
- 32:38Speaker 3: A lot of us end up paying quarterback Matt Castle, Whedon,
- 32:41Speaker 3: Tony myself. You know, it was just a rough year
- 32:45Speaker 3: for the Cowboys, and so coming back, it was Tony
- 32:48Speaker 3: myself and then we end up drafting Dak in the
- 32:50Speaker 3: fourth round and I still get a lot of reps
- 32:53Speaker 3: as kind of the number two at the time. I
- 32:56Speaker 3: have a freak deal at training camp out in Knoxnard.
- 32:58Speaker 3: The fourth day, an offense lineman kind of gets pushed
- 33:00Speaker 3: back and falls back on my leg.
- 33:02Speaker 2: I break my ankle. So I went back to.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Dallas, got surgery, kind of sitting there on the couch
- 33:06Speaker 3: and I just remember you're watching because Tony was kind
- 33:10Speaker 3: of dealing with some maintenance stuff at that point already
- 33:12Speaker 3: with the back, and so Dak was taking a ton
- 33:14Speaker 3: of reps in practice. He's basically taken ones, twos, and three.
- 33:17Speaker 3: He's just going And they played that first game against
- 33:21Speaker 3: the Rams and preseasons the first game in the LA Coliseum,
- 33:24Speaker 3: and uh, he just goes out there and just is
- 33:26Speaker 3: dealing and is incredible.
- 33:28Speaker 1: There's two amazing touchdown passes if I remember, Yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 3: And then I think, you know, they come back, they
- 33:33Speaker 3: playing Dallas and the next week is at Seattle and
- 33:35Speaker 3: that's where Tony you know, Tony's back goes out and
- 33:38Speaker 3: he gets sacked, you know, just a kind of a
- 33:40Speaker 3: freak deal, and Dak rolls out there and deals again.
- 33:43Speaker 3: You know, And certainly in the back of your mind,
- 33:45Speaker 3: as a competitor, you're kind of like, man like, there's
- 33:48Speaker 3: a chance here, and I kind of missed the boat there,
- 33:50Speaker 3: you know, And certainly there's a competitive side of you
- 33:53Speaker 3: that kind of is challenged by that. But all things
- 33:56Speaker 3: happen for a reason. A we figured out that Dak
- 33:59Speaker 3: was really, really good. I'm glad we did, because he's
- 34:02Speaker 3: turned into such a tremendous he's one of the premier
- 34:04Speaker 3: quarterbacks in this league and one of the best guys
- 34:07Speaker 3: in this league, and he's phenomenal live and fortunate to
- 34:10Speaker 3: be around him for such a long time. But it
- 34:12Speaker 3: also led me to the coaching side, you know, because
- 34:14Speaker 3: that year I was on ir and Scott and Jason
- 34:17Speaker 3: were awesome with me.
- 34:17Speaker 2: They allowed me to kind of stay stay in it.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I was in the quarterback room trying to be a
- 34:22Speaker 3: resource or help in any possible way. Tony was rehabbing,
- 34:26Speaker 3: Dak was the starter. Now Sanchez Mark Sanchez being Mark.
- 34:30Speaker 3: He got signed like on Tuesday. So there's a lot
- 34:34Speaker 3: of movie pieces in this in this room, and so
- 34:36Speaker 3: there's an element of, hey, can you just stay in there?
- 34:38Speaker 3: So there's at least some commonality there for Scott and
- 34:41Speaker 3: for Wade Wilson, who was our quarterback coach at the time.
- 34:44Speaker 3: And so it was awesome for me because it let
- 34:46Speaker 3: me kind of go on the other side of the thing,
- 34:49Speaker 3: be on the coaching side a little bit. I did
- 34:50Speaker 3: some projects for them and just kind of helped in
- 34:52Speaker 3: any possible way.
- 34:53Speaker 2: But I think it.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Also gave Jason and Scott a chance to kind of
- 34:56Speaker 3: see me from that perspective, which lo and behold allowed
- 34:59Speaker 3: me to transition right from player to coach two years later.
- 35:02Speaker 3: And so I think without that moment, I don't think
- 35:04Speaker 3: I'm doing that. I think, you know, most people would
- 35:06Speaker 3: say you're crazy to go from player to coach.
- 35:08Speaker 2: To allow that to happen in the NFL.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Can you put that then in like a more concise thing,
- 35:12Speaker 1: like just as a lesson, because I think of that situation,
- 35:16Speaker 1: you've played your entire career waiting for your opportunity. Finally
- 35:19Speaker 1: the opportunity arises and you can't physically go, and yet
- 35:21Speaker 1: you found a way to pivot and make the most
- 35:23Speaker 1: of the opportunity. I think that's a beautiful lesson for
- 35:25Speaker 1: anyone in life.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we work our tail off for certain
- 35:30Speaker 3: goals and aspirations, and sometimes life pivots and takes you
- 35:34Speaker 3: to the path that maybe leads you down something else.
- 35:37Speaker 3: And certainly, as a player, you want to play as
- 35:39Speaker 3: long as you can. But I always knew I wanted
- 35:41Speaker 3: to coach, and so I think the transition that allowed
- 35:45Speaker 3: me to go through was tremendous. And sometimes you don't
- 35:48Speaker 3: understand it going through it. You don't understand why me,
- 35:50Speaker 3: why this situation. It helped us figure out Dak. It
- 35:54Speaker 3: helped Dak, It helped myself as my journey went on.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Things happened for a reason. I truly believe that it's beautiful.
- 36:00Speaker 1: And now I look at it like in Denver and
- 36:02Speaker 1: I'm friendly with Sean Payton. He hired Davis Webb, a
- 36:04Speaker 1: twenty eight year old, as the quarter best coach. I'm
- 36:07Speaker 1: not gonna say you broke down those doors, but you
- 36:09Speaker 1: certainly laid the blueprint of Hey, it's possible for these
- 36:12Speaker 1: guys to go straight from the playing field to the
- 36:14Speaker 1: coaching Yeah.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was fortunate.
- 36:16Speaker 3: I basically moved one chair over, you know, instead of
- 36:19Speaker 3: being next to the computer, I was running the computer.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Other than that, it was the same room, and so
- 36:24Speaker 3: you know, I was really fortunate for that. I think
- 36:26Speaker 3: it was a lot of fun.
- 36:27Speaker 1: You can go as long or as quick as you
- 36:29Speaker 1: want on this if I just say the name, and
- 36:30Speaker 1: you did say he was one of the great here
- 36:31Speaker 1: with Dak Prescott, because I feel like we take it
- 36:35Speaker 1: for granted. What a guy is Walter Payton Man of
- 36:36Speaker 1: the Year and he goes out there and he's got
- 36:38Speaker 1: such consistency when he's on the field and yet hasn't
- 36:41Speaker 1: won the big one in There are always critics with it.
- 36:43Speaker 1: But as a player and as a man, your experience
- 36:45Speaker 1: with Dak Prescott, what would you want listeners to know?
- 36:48Speaker 2: The best person?
- 36:50Speaker 3: I think the best leader I've ever been around, easily
- 36:54Speaker 3: and in all honesty, player or coach or anything. I
- 36:56Speaker 3: think his ability to connect with a team and all
- 36:59Speaker 3: spectrums is rare and I've never seen it in any
- 37:02Speaker 3: other way. His work, ethic, his command, I think he's
- 37:06Speaker 3: InCred and so I know, you know, we've all been
- 37:08Speaker 3: through that Dallas journey and he has a phenomenal way
- 37:12Speaker 3: of being a deal with probably more than your average
- 37:14Speaker 3: NFL starting quarterback, and he handled it beautifully. And yeah,
- 37:18Speaker 3: he's certainly certainly a guy you.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Forever root for.
- 37:21Speaker 1: That's awesome, man. All Right, we do rapid fire. I
- 37:23Speaker 1: was asked you some quick questions about philosophy, about your
- 37:26Speaker 1: history in the NFL, and we we wrap it up.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I'm loving this and I appreciate you taking the time,
- 37:31Speaker 1: especially during this vacation week from it all. You would
- 37:34Speaker 1: say your mentor in football is whom I.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Would say My two most prominent ones are my dad
- 37:41Speaker 3: across from Mustangs and Chris Peterson, not just those two
- 37:44Speaker 3: stops of life. Uh yeah, I think those those were
- 37:47Speaker 3: the foundations for who I am.
- 37:49Speaker 1: You played with guys like Calvin Johnson, You've also played with, uh,
- 37:55Speaker 1: you played with superstars like does Brynt. You play with
- 37:57Speaker 1: all these great NFL players. The most freakish athlete that
- 38:02Speaker 1: you have played with in NFL is who.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Calvin by by far like Calvin I think was just
- 38:08Speaker 3: he's just different. And like you know, I remember the
- 38:11Speaker 3: first time, so I'm a rookie, I show up to
- 38:15Speaker 3: OTA's and they got we're in the red zone for
- 38:18Speaker 3: some reason, I think it had a ben a screw up.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Calvin's on the field when I'm on the field, which
- 38:22Speaker 3: shouldn't be going on on the thirst and QB and
- 38:25Speaker 3: we call a red zone play and there's like two
- 38:27Speaker 3: guys in the back line and I happened to throw
- 38:30Speaker 3: to the guy on the right, who was Titus Young
- 38:31Speaker 3: at the.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Time that I had played with Poise and.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Matthew and Sean Hill be in the backup at the time,
- 38:38Speaker 3: who's phenomenal.
- 38:39Speaker 2: He just looks at me and.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Says, if that other guy's ever on the field, just throw.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It to.
- 38:46Speaker 3: The rest of the time and for whatever reason that
- 38:48Speaker 3: guy's on the field, just throw it to him.
- 38:50Speaker 2: And that was like the simplest lesson.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Hey, that guy's different than any other human being that
- 38:54Speaker 3: you'll ever be around.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Yeah, growing up, who is the player? And you mentioned
- 38:58Speaker 1: those those mustangs that you liked. But who was the
- 39:00Speaker 1: player in the NFL that you aspired to be or
- 39:02Speaker 1: that you saw and said, hey, maybe someday.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Growing up to the Northwest. So bec was my guy?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Really? I love that.
- 39:09Speaker 2: I loved his presence, you know that.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I think he would really love hearing that. Does he
- 39:13Speaker 1: know that? Have you told me?
- 39:13Speaker 2: I hope he does.
- 39:14Speaker 3: I am a disciple of the Matt Hasselbeck Passing Academy.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Okay, so this is a camp that he put on.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Oh yeah he put on yep.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I think I'm one of like two guys whoever got
- 39:26Speaker 3: out of there that you know.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Got to the NFL.
- 39:28Speaker 3: But I was there, you know, Seneca Wallace was my
- 39:30Speaker 3: camp counselor yeah, you know, and that was that was
- 39:34Speaker 3: my guy. I loved his command, the way he's played,
- 39:37Speaker 3: like the he was always having fun like that was
- 39:40Speaker 3: the coolest thing to me. It was like, this is
- 39:41Speaker 3: the NFL and this guy's just like smiling, having fun,
- 39:44Speaker 3: loving this thing.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Who is the biggest personality that you've come across in
- 39:48Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Oh that's interesting.
- 39:51Speaker 1: You can take that anywhere you want, the biggest alpha,
- 39:53Speaker 1: the most hilarious, whoever it is.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that is a great question, and I got, Man,
- 40:00Speaker 3: you can go a lot of different ways here.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I think biggest personality, like Dez was so much fun.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think because is you know, he's like a
- 40:08Speaker 3: kid in the sense that when he was playing there,
- 40:10Speaker 3: and I say that in the most positive way, like
- 40:12Speaker 3: he just wanted to throw up, play catch.
- 40:14Speaker 1: All day, just pure joy during warm ups. The trainers
- 40:19Speaker 1: coming up to me at the Cowboys being like, we
- 40:20Speaker 1: have to keep an eye on des because he gets
- 40:22Speaker 1: so excited during warm ups. Like I love that there.
- 40:25Speaker 3: I mean, he'll he'll grab every equipment guy, every like
- 40:27Speaker 3: strength coach. He just wants to play catch the entire
- 40:30Speaker 3: pregame and even during practice, like if the defense is
- 40:32Speaker 3: going he's over there like hey, hey, come over here
- 40:34Speaker 3: to the other field, like I just want I just
- 40:36Speaker 3: want to run some routs and catch like and he
- 40:37Speaker 3: just wants to catch all day long.
- 40:39Speaker 2: And I thought it was so cool, Like it was
- 40:42Speaker 2: the most fun. Uh. He truly just loved playing football.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I love that. Do you have a good Jerry Jones
- 40:48Speaker 1: story that's like I say, safe for but you know
- 40:51Speaker 1: it does Jerry Jones story that we could all say
- 40:53Speaker 1: that's pretty cool.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Oh, I love Jerry I could think of two, probably
- 41:00Speaker 3: one being for my first three or four years, he
- 41:02Speaker 3: thought I was keeling, but I was the third string QB,
- 41:06Speaker 3: so I something else say a word?
- 41:07Speaker 2: So why would you even even.
- 41:09Speaker 3: When I was first the uh, you know, I first
- 41:11Speaker 3: got a chance to be the coordinator, I think I
- 41:12Speaker 3: was still keeling at the time, but I wasn't gonna
- 41:14Speaker 3: saying things I keeling everyone's while I was calling.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Uh.
- 41:18Speaker 2: But you know, you just kind of go with it,
- 41:20Speaker 2: you know, like, hey, I'm.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Going Jerry, Joe, I'm happy, I don't care. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:24Speaker 3: And so in Dallas there was there tended to be
- 41:26Speaker 3: a little bit of running joke of I was keeling,
- 41:28Speaker 3: not killing. But you know, the other one I would
- 41:31Speaker 3: think of was when we first got to the Star.
- 41:33Speaker 3: This is probably twenty seventeen, they're eighteen, one of those
- 41:35Speaker 3: one of those OTA times, And for people to understand
- 41:39Speaker 3: the Star, there's a lot of commercial stuff going on
- 41:41Speaker 3: around it as well as the football, right and so anyways,
- 41:45Speaker 3: we're going through an OTA practice. Jason was the head
- 41:47Speaker 3: coach at the time, and uh, the security officer, you know,
- 41:51Speaker 3: the guy who kind of runs security there, Cable Johnson
- 41:53Speaker 3: Apps And to come out and he's kind of waving
- 41:54Speaker 3: Jason down in the middle of a practice like, hey,
- 41:57Speaker 3: we got to move, we got to move and do
- 41:59Speaker 3: the football team kind of like, and Jason has that
- 42:02Speaker 3: dumb founder look like, what are you talking about? Like,
- 42:05Speaker 3: we're in the middle of practices, I can We've got
- 42:06Speaker 3: to move. The choppers come. The choppers coming, like straight
- 42:10Speaker 3: out straight out of the movie. Everyone's kind of like, wait,
- 42:13Speaker 3: so are we supposed to pause practice? And you see
- 42:15Speaker 3: this chopper come. We've been around the buildings at the
- 42:19Speaker 3: at the Star, and sure enough, here comes to chopper.
- 42:21Speaker 3: It's got a lamb, it's got a lamd right on
- 42:23Speaker 3: the field, and so everyone kind of cleared off. We
- 42:26Speaker 3: had a nice little like extended water break. The chopper
- 42:28Speaker 3: came through, got everyone where they needed to be, and
- 42:31Speaker 3: then then practice resumed and so it was quite the experience.
- 42:35Speaker 1: But that is so good.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it. You know. Jerry's Jerry's the absolute best.
- 42:40Speaker 1: The biggest show in town. Man, it is, And I
- 42:43Speaker 1: think he's still everyone what he does. The other owners
- 42:45Speaker 1: still in a lot of ways still follow He's still
- 42:47Speaker 1: the leader of that group, and of course the NFL,
- 42:49Speaker 1: he's one of the biggest characters himself. My last question,
- 42:53Speaker 1: your message to Chargers fans as we head to twenty
- 42:56Speaker 1: twenty three and they're so excited. In fact, I was
- 42:58Speaker 1: looking at a podcast. It's like the Lockdown Chargers podcast.
- 43:01Speaker 1: It's like, are we too excited for Kellen Moore's offense?
- 43:04Speaker 1: Like it's getting to that point. What would be your
- 43:05Speaker 1: message for a fan base that is just so hungry
- 43:08Speaker 1: for some success.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we're just gonna have fun. We're just
- 43:11Speaker 2: gonna go for it.
- 43:12Speaker 3: I think that's the biggest thing that we're excited for
- 43:14Speaker 3: is we got a group who can do do some
- 43:16Speaker 3: really good things, and we're excited to build this thing
- 43:18Speaker 3: for twenty twenty three. And so whatever that offense ends
- 43:21Speaker 3: up looking like as we go through training camp.
- 43:23Speaker 2: We'll build it however we need to. But you know,
- 43:26Speaker 2: we're gonna be aggressive. We're going to go for it.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I said in the monologue that there's an annual party
- 43:30Speaker 1: out in the Hamptons in New York and it's thrown
- 43:33Speaker 1: by Michael Rubin, who's the CEO of Fanatics, and the
- 43:35Speaker 1: biggest stars in music and the biggest stars in the
- 43:38Speaker 1: NBA go and every year there's a couple of NBA
- 43:40Speaker 1: guys that make it. Would you say, Justin Herbert's probably
- 43:43Speaker 1: not going to be at that.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Party, probably not, Probably not Gene Oregon.
- 43:48Speaker 1: He'll be a Eugene, Oregon watching fireworks from a far
- 43:51Speaker 1: distance away thinking about football, which is probably a good thing.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Kellen Moore, this was awesome. We appreciate you taking the time.
- 43:58Speaker 1: You went forty minutes, went over time with us, and
- 44:00Speaker 1: I can't say how excited I am enough for this
- 44:03Speaker 1: Chargers offense with you and Herbert together, But I also
- 44:05Speaker 1: know Brandon's quite well and thank you. Guys are going
- 44:07Speaker 1: to be a great team as far as offensive coordinator
- 44:11Speaker 1: slash head coach or offensive coordinator then him as the
- 44:13Speaker 1: head coach. But I just thank you for coming on
- 44:15Speaker 1: the podcast. It was really cool you're doing this.
- 44:17Speaker 2: No appreciate it. Thanks Peter.
- 44:18Speaker 1: That was awesome, Kellen Moore. Great if you're a Chargers fan,
- 44:22Speaker 1: you got to come away from that thing just feeling
- 44:24Speaker 1: confident that you're in competent hands and Justin herbertson a
- 44:28Speaker 1: very good situation. To you guys, the listeners, Thanks so much.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Enjoy your July fourth weekend. Continue to subscribe. Tell your
- 44:35Speaker 1: friends I don't think any other podcast is doing it
- 44:37Speaker 1: the way we are. We're getting these guys that don't
- 44:40Speaker 1: have to do it. They're doing it voluntarily. This isn't
- 44:42Speaker 1: through an entire booking situation. These are me reaching out
- 44:46Speaker 1: to these coaches and these gms and them agreeing to
- 44:48Speaker 1: do it, and it's so appreciated. Kellen Moore is a
- 44:52Speaker 1: great interview. He's also a great dad and leader of men.
- 44:55Speaker 1: So I'm excited to see what they do in LA,
- 44:57Speaker 1: but I'm also excited to see who we get up
- 44:59Speaker 1: next on this podcast. Enjoy July fourth, everyone, Please be safe,
