2:12
I want to get to today. Delicate Jbacres is going to join us.
2:14
Of course, there's an event being held tonight. If you are one of
2:16
the victims of the storms of not only the second of April, but also
2:21
April eleventh, there's going to be a community event held tonight out at Sandplant
2:24
Road, and Delicate Acres is going to join us to talk about that.
2:28
It's the whole idea behind this is to try to get information out to people
2:31
how you can fill out damage assessments and things of that nature. So we're
2:36
going to talk to Delicate Acres about that. Also, there's a program that's
2:40
this is a nationwide program, but they're going to be doing an event in
2:44
Charleston here in a couple of weeks and it's called Guns to Gardens and I'm
2:47
going to talk about that a little bit later on as well. Dude,
2:51
want to start with the news. We have a story posted a domestic incident
2:54
in the Chilian area has led to a man dying and a woman to being
2:58
hospitalized and have in shilling. Around one fifty this morning, female victims stabbed.
3:04
According to Canawa County Sheriff's Department, Chief Deputy Joe Crawford and his first
3:07
responders were tending to the victim, a man barricaded himself into the residents and
3:13
had a gun out threatening deputies. Well you know that that never turns out
3:16
well, and the deputies shot and killed him. Now last report, the
3:21
woman was hospitalized at CAMC General where she was undergoing surgery. The investigation on
3:25
that continues. Chris Lawrence as the story posted now at what we do know
3:29
at this point at wv metronews dot com. Let me welcome in our good
3:35
friend Millie Snyder from the Shape Show, and I'm so glad to be here.
3:38
Thank you. Do you like what we're doing with the place here?
3:42
Yes? I think the boxes are beautiful, We have a we have a
3:45
you know, the studio is a pretty good sized studio, old television studio.
3:47
At one point it really well, it's yeah, this was one of
3:51
Ron Hughes tells me because Ron was here, you know, in nineteen twenty
3:53
one, and apparently this is complimentary. I well, you know we're gonna
4:00
workers that way. So apparently at one time this was the home of w
4:03
c HS Television. Now we are you know, not related in any any
4:08
form, uh, but they're transforming this place, miss Milly and what well,
4:13
well, you know, for years we were West Virginia Radio Corporation.
4:15
The name was changed is w v RC Media now because we're multimedia from digital
4:20
to and so in the coming months, Millie, when you come in and
4:26
you've missed us once a month to do this show, you're gonna be on
4:29
camera on television because this is it'll be just like talk line. If you
4:32
watch Hoppy at ten o six and you see, uh, you know the
4:35
nice studio in mortgage out, we're in the process of doing that here.
4:40
So it looked kind of like only prayer play pray for a good hair day.
4:44
It only well, you always have good It kind of looks like a
4:46
Chris Lawrence sid It kind of looks like a home Depot store room in here
4:48
right now with all these boxes we've got in here. But don't say Home
4:51
Deepot. It's all from Lows. Well, yeah, we can't say.
4:55
Probably should have said lows. But uh, but anyway, yeah, and
4:58
so we got big, big doings. Are we doing everything in this place?
5:01
Man? I mean all the studios are changing, and I'm good they're
5:05
going to be right here in the middle of allive. I love it all
5:08
right. I gotta take care one piece of business with you first, do
5:12
it all right, because I know you got a lot to cover. So
5:15
I don't know if you remember the show Saturday Night Live. Of course it's
5:17
still on the back in the eighties, Saturday Night Live did a bit when
5:23
they it was a parody commercial. Some of the funny stuff they do and
5:26
still do is parody commercial. They did a parody commercial about all of these
5:30
cereals that were promoting digestive health at that time. This is you know,
5:34
the Totals and the you know, so on and so forth. Well,
5:39
they did a parody commercial of a cereal that they called colon Blow. I
5:46
know which one you're talking about. So I got a buddy of mine who
5:48
shall remain nameless. Every time you're on the show, he says, I'll
5:54
give you twenty dollars if you can have Millie Snyders say the words colon Blow.
5:59
I'll give you ten of it. If you say the words colon blow,
6:01
colon blow, there you go. It's done. And that happened during
6:05
the days of weight watchers, when we used to count fiber and people would
6:11
find the cereal that had the highest fiber possible and they would eat the largest
6:17
amount that they could hold. And that's when we called it colon blow.
6:23
Forget and forget, and we're serious forgetting the fact that it was loaded with
6:27
sugar. So oh, absolutely it sugar. But when we knew someone was
6:32
about to have a colon blow, we tried to keep our distance. Yeah,
6:36
exactly. All right, so there you go. I just collected twenty
6:40
bucks and I have to give you ten of it. Yes you do,
6:42
Thank you very much. All right, what you going on? Well,
6:45
first of all, yes, thank you forty eight years forty eight years.
6:49
And I want to tell you about that day. Go ahead, Uh.
6:53
We the store was packed with people, every table was full. We were
6:57
giving out free ice cream, and we lost power all the days to do
7:01
it all. Just on the April second or the April eleventh, was just
7:05
that was April. That was April Fool's Day, April first, the opening.
7:11
So then the next day we had the tornadoes. So the first two
7:15
days of that week, we're not very exciting. But what are you going
7:18
to do? But I am. I thank you by the way, you
7:21
did a public service announcement for us, and we had a wonderful turnout,
7:27
So you know, things happened. But Shape Shop is alive and well.
7:31
Our food truck is getting busier and busier. People love what we are producing
7:36
out on the road. But also when you come into the Shape Shop,
7:41
you're eating fresh, clean food. And we also have some very unique grab
7:45
and goes. So if you don't feel like cooking dinner, and a lot
7:47
of people don't, they can pick up their meal, take it home and
7:51
it's you know, microwaveable for thirty seconds and just delicious food and it's fresh,
7:58
it's clean, and of course or sugar is not the friend. And
8:03
the stuff that we make has no chemicals, nothing is processed. And the
8:07
world is beginning to pay attention. And you know, I have been around
8:13
in this wonderful industry for a long time, but I have to throw some
8:16
caution to the wind because lots and lots of people are taking all of those
8:22
new diet drugs, but they're not doing the most essential thing, and that
8:28
is also learning how to eat. There's no such thing as a drug fixing
8:35
it all, because if you haven't learned what to do, there's going to
8:39
be some unhappiness down the road. Not that I wish that on anyone.
8:43
I love everyone to be successful in a healthy body. But how you get
8:48
to that healthy body has to do with the hand to mouth and what you
8:54
eat on a regular basis. And I'm going to play Devil's advocate for moment
8:58
based on an article that I read the other day. I read an article
9:01
the other day, Millie that was talking about this very same thing. With
9:03
the popularity of all of these weight loss drugs. Maybe they're intended for other
9:07
things, but one of the somebody figured out, well, one of the
9:09
side effings is you lose weight. Right. Someone in an article said,
9:13
hey, look it's a start, it's a start, and that it's not
9:16
as bad as everybody's making it out to be. You would say, okay,
9:20
And my answer to that, I hope whoever authored that statement is one
9:26
hundred percent correct. But one of the things we cannot deny is you must
9:31
eat, and you must learn about healthy eating. If whatever happens with that
9:37
drug is going to have sustainability because the drug itself is not an educational tool,
9:46
and the educational tool is what we do. I hope who said that
9:50
has more truth to that statement than not, but there's no I've been around
9:56
in this industry for a very long time, not just for my personal well
10:01
well personal weight loss, but also learning and seeing what happens. I took
10:09
diet pills in my younger life, and I learned nothing until I started eating.
10:16
When I joined weight Watchers, my life and my world changed. I've
10:20
seen the horrors of fen fen and reducts and other things that came along.
10:26
If you haven't changed your mind about your body, you haven't made the essential
10:31
changes. I mean, all you have to do is google the I mean,
10:33
just you know, on your spare time, google these drugs and come
10:39
up with, you know, over the years, the one that was going
10:43
to be the miracle drug, and many of them are not on the shelves
10:46
anymore. The majority of them are because there was no miracle for her reason
10:50
for a reason, and I have a feeling that when you look at what's
10:52
out there now with a lot of these, you're going to be talking about
10:54
those and the same I'm not saying that they're going to necessarily be legal,
10:56
but you are going to be talking about those in the same light in five
11:00
to ten years. And again I'm I could stand to do a whole lot
11:03
better eating, just like a lot of people could. But I will say
11:05
this that in the end, no matter what drugs come out, no matter
11:11
what kind of surgery, there is no matter what you know, any of
11:13
these medical procedures, nothing beats died an exercise. It's been that way since
11:18
the beginning of time, and it's going to continue to be that way.
11:22
That's zild the number one thing. But people are looking for overnight, quick
11:26
miracles, and I must you know. Yesterday I had a really nice experience.
11:31
I was at Kroger's shopping and this woman asked me a question where something
11:35
was I answered, and then she looked at me. She said, why
11:37
is your voice familiar? I said, I don't know. Well, anyway,
11:43
one word led to another, and of course she once upon a time
11:46
attended weight Watchers. What she didn't know was that weight Watchers has changed their
11:52
whole format, their whole presentation, because they are about the diet drugs also.
11:56
But what I that's got to be disappointing to you. It's actually there's
12:01
a bigger word than disappointing. It's a heartbreak. And I can say that
12:07
honestly because I joined Weight Watchers in Baltimore when the whole organization was three years
12:13
old. To say that I grew up with it is not even an understatement.
12:18
It's major. It helped me become the person that I dreamed about becoming
12:24
in terms of health and awareness to share with others. Anyway, what this
12:30
lady didn't know was there are classes to attend, and they're the ones that
12:33
I created using the Mediterranean lifestyle. And we have a Thursday morning and we
12:39
have a Saturday morning. Although this week we're not doing it tomorrow. We're
12:43
doing it today when I leave here. But that's just this week as an
12:48
exception. But the important thing is that people need each other. We need
12:54
to be able to share ideas and leave with quality information. And Mediterranean living
13:00
has taught me more than all the years that I was part of. I
13:05
was the life of weight Watchers because the information is about how to take care
13:13
of your health, and when you take care of your health, you're also
13:16
taking care of your psychological well being because the changes that you make are working
13:22
in your whole entire life. It's not just then, it's about how am
13:28
I getting there and what am I doing to really and truly be able to
13:33
make a difference in my life. And that's where I think Mediterranean is way
13:39
years ahead of anything else. And you know, the group that brought it
13:43
to this country is called Old Ways, and what they brought to this country
13:48
was the old way of eating. And you know, I very jokingly say,
13:54
although it's not intended to be a joke, I believe that this is
13:58
the way Jesus say it. Because what super market did he go to?
14:01
He ate fresh, clean food, nothing processed, no chemicals, as well
14:07
as all the people in his time of life. See, And what I
14:11
thought you were going to say is when you were talking about being at Kroger,
14:13
I thought you were going to say that. A woman said your voice
14:16
sounds familiar, that she listened to you on the radio. That's what I
14:18
thought you that's really thought where I thought you were going with that. Well,
14:20
I told her I was going to be on radio tomorrow, which is
14:24
today, so I hope she's listening. But Dave Allen showing five eighty lives

14:39
to take our food truck to TC Energy and Kanas City. And we were
14:43
there last week in that deluge of water that came out of the sky.
14:48
But tomorrow it looks like nice weather. And we have a lot of things
14:52
that are planned for the food truck and we're excited about that. But if
14:56
you don't come to the food truck, come to the show up seven six

like it looks, read it, just like it looks Dave Robert absecond.
19:22
Sarah Gottlieber here with the group Guns to Gardens and they joined me this morning
19:27
in the par Marstors studio. Sarah Robert, Welcome, to the show.
19:30
Good morning to both of you. Good morning, Good morning to you.
19:33
I might probably have to have you come a little closer to that microphone for
19:34
you there, sir. Okay, all right, So you have an event
19:37
coming up May fourth here in Charleston, Saint Mark's Church, nine hundred Washington
19:41
Street East, from one to three. When people first hear of an event
19:45
like this, they think, you know, because when I got your email
19:51
and I saw the subject line, I thought, oh boy, they think
19:52
they're coming to get my guns. It is nothing like that at all.
19:56
I've done some reading on the organization. It's really not about that at All's
20:00
here correct, It's a voluntary surrender of an unwanted gun while they watch,
20:06
their gun is dismantled with a chop saw, and then blacksmiths take the gun
20:11
pieces and reform them into garden tools or art or jewelry. So it's voluntary.
20:18
Robert can speak to who might want to surrender a gun? All right,
20:21
Robert, go ahead. Well, you know a lot of times people
20:23
come into possession of firearms and that was never really their intent. Perhaps the
20:29
firearm owner has passed away, their lifestyle has changed, now they have children
20:34
in the home or their grandparents that are taking care of children on a regular
20:41
basis. And we all know how inquisitive children can be. And unfortunately,
20:47
unintentional shootings involving even two three four year olds are unfortunately not uncommon in our
20:53
country. Also, you know, folks who develop mental health issues, their
21:00
family may want to keep firearms from from falling into their hands. And a
21:06
firearm that was used in a suicide, So a lot of reasons why.
21:11
People just they're looking for a way to get rid of the gun and know
21:17
that it's not going to fall into the wrong hands, which you know,
21:21
which happens. I mean, I mean, it can be stolen, it
21:23
could be you know. So this is this is these events. This one's
21:29
happened to Charleston, and again I'll give you the details on that again come
21:32
up a little bit later on. But this is a nationwide effort, is
21:33
that right? It is? It started in Colorado about three years ago after
21:37
a mass shooting at a King super in Boulder, but the concept grew.
21:42
Oh I'd like to say the concept was the is the idea of a Mennonite
21:48
pastor named Mike Martin, and he based it on the scripture from Isaiah chapter
21:53
two, verse four, they shall beat their swords into plowshares, So that
21:57
that's where he got the idea for this. And then the first guns to
22:02
Gardens event was held three years ago, like I said, and since then
22:06
they have been held nationwide and closer to us, there's been a guns to
22:11
Gardens events in Shepherdstown, Columbus, Cleveland, and Louisville. So how exactly
22:18
does it work. The day of the event, I mean, how exactly
22:21
does it work? People will well, obviously come to the location Saint Mark's
22:26
Church. They'll be They'll be met by greeters who will explain to them what
22:33
needs to happen from that point. The greeter will then direct them to the
22:41
gun safety station, say where their gun would be. The guns guns need
22:45
to be unloaded and in the trunk of their car and so they'refrom. So
22:52
you don't want people just walking in right right, and from the from the
22:56
point where the greeter picks them up, they'll be taken to the far arm
23:00
safety station, where one of our firearm experts will ensure that the gun is
23:04
in fact unloaded. We will record the serial number for the gun. Okay,
23:11
and that's it. No other identifying, and what we want to do
23:15
is after the event, we want to provide that list of serial numbers to
23:21
the Charleston Police Department. They can run it against perhaps any guns that have
23:25
been used in a crime or have been reported stolen or whatever, and know
23:30
that that firearm is no longer even in the picture. What kind of buy
23:36
in has there been from the police agencies around the country. I mean,
23:40
do they generally speak and go along with us? I would imagine they would,
23:44
Well, the thing is and as is the case here in Charleston,
23:48
they they really don't have any mechanism for someone who wanted to surrender a gun.
23:52
They don't have any process, they don't have storage capacity, and and
23:59
really what would they do with it after it came into their possession. So,
24:03
uh, the program has had the support of local law enforcement for those
24:11
reasons. You know that it gets firearms that nobody is really interested in having
24:18
out of circulation off the street so that they can't fall into the wrong hands.
24:23
So what's the process like that they because the guns actually become garden is
24:30
in fact, in fact, Sarah has a very nice necklace, which obviously
24:33
the radio listeners can't see that they come back in six months. We'll have
24:37
television. But I have a necklace that's in the shape of a heart.
24:41
But that was a gun piece. Okay, So okay, I'm gonna play.
24:45
I'm gonna be totally ignorant here because I'm the least crafty person on the
24:48
face of the earth. Exactly what is the process like to make that?
24:51
What does it take to turn anything into a necklace? Like? That's a
24:53
great question, but that's a definitely a blacksmith's skill. And so we will
24:57
have blacksmiths there who will take the gun parts to their forge. Our blacksmith
25:03
will be out of Asheville, North Carolina. They're with a nonprofit group called
25:07
Raw Tools. But we are hoping to have local blacksmiths interested and possibly in
25:14
future events, keep our gun metal local and have it reformed here. Is
25:18
this the first time you've had an event like this in Charleston? Yes,
25:21
okay, yes, have event. Where did you get the I mean,
25:23
I know it's gone on nationwide, guys, but where did you get the
25:26
idea that we're going to have this in Charleston. I heard about this program
25:32
through my church. My church is Presbyterian Church, USA. I belong to
25:34
Village Chapel Presbyterian and they are a supporter of this effort, and so I
25:41
heard about it through there and it just kind of clicked with me that the
25:45
voluntary nature of it, and also then there were needs to surrender a gun
25:48
that I was unaware of. And they also put on a five week program
25:55
last summer with Sarah and I and our partners training Dina Mohler participated in and
26:03
basically it was a five week once a week, one hour over zoom people
26:08
from all over the country learning about guns, to garden, how to what
26:14
the program was, how to conduct an event in your community. Gave us
26:19
the resources for people like raw Tools South to help with that, and so
26:29
you know, all we me and Dina we did ours during the daytime.
26:33
Sarah was at nighttime and she had even people from Hawaii, right, Yes,
26:37
we're in Cohort, Yeah, Nashville, Minnesota, Akron, all over
26:41
Okay. But Dave Allen showing five a light brown to your apartment by husband's
26:45
pizza, Get a large at ninch Pepperoni pizza and a large toss saddled only
26:48
twenty ninety nine at your favorite husband's location to have a couple of texts here
26:52
for you that people text in, and you're always talk to you guys about
26:56
answering questions. Someone to ask where do you get your funding for the organization.
27:00
We have been fund raising since December and so we have gotten funding from
27:03
four different churches in the Jewish temple in town as well as a grant and
27:11
a lot of private donations. So we've ended up with about nine thousand dollars,
27:17
which is what we needed. And that money is used principally to buy
27:22
the grocery gift cards. That's part of that. I don't know you even
27:25
know if we've even mentioned that yet. Yeople, when people bring these items
27:29
out, they're not going to walk away with nothing. That's correct. Once
27:33
they see that their firearm has been dismantled by the chopsaw operator, then they
27:40
will receive grocery cards grocery gift cards in an amount that varies depending on the
27:47
type of firearm that that was surrendered. So, for instance, a handgun,
27:52
a normal handgun would get one hundred and fifty dollars in gift cards.
27:59
An assault kind of AR fifteen rifle would be two hundred dollars. Why the
28:06
difference in the price just the difference in how much work has to go with
28:11
okay, and then think about that into a lot more moving parts, I
28:15
guess, also moving parts. And also the fact that you know, obviously
28:18
if we can, if we could get some of those AR fifteen's off the
28:23
street, perhaps we wouldn't see them in the news so often, because I
28:27
mean, you know, I'm not anti gun by any stretch of the imagination,
28:30
and I don't think that a lot of people with your organization. I
28:33
grew up in a family of hunters, and you know, with guns in
28:37
my household, and I understand that a lot of people use guns for sport
28:41
and gun collecting and value that too. And this is just this is an
28:48
event for people who again own a gun that they just it's bringing them worry,
28:52
it's associated with grief, and they just are uncomfortable with it in their
28:56
home. To tell them the story about the lady that just found a gun
29:00
in her home. Just this week, I was presenting this program to a
29:03
group and a woman came up to me afterwards said that her husband had died
29:07
seventeen years ago. He was a gun owner, and she had dispersed his
29:12
guns to her sons, but just last week or about two weeks ago,
29:18
her son found two more guns in her house that all this time she didn't
29:22
know they were there. And so anyway, she was talking about coming to
29:26
the event. Okay, so now when you you people surrender the guns and
29:32
again it's all voluntary, but you don't take me AMMO. Well now why
29:34
is that? Well, because number one, you can't cut up AMMO.
29:38
Okay, logistics, day, yeah, logistics you can't. Obviously you can't
29:44
cut up AMMO. And there really is no way for us to disperse of
29:49
it. Okay, it would be a good thing to work with city police
29:52
on that. Would they take them? Would they accept the AMMO and see
29:56
the thing? The other thing to keep in mind is this is a surrender,
30:00
a safe surrender event. Okay, we never take ownership of the gun,
30:07
which is why this process takes them from We greet them when they arrive
30:14
on the property, We escort them through the process, they see their firearm
30:18
being destroyed, and then they get their gift cards and then they can leave
30:23
or will have pastoral care available. You know, perhaps somebody did surrender a
30:29
firearm because it was used in a suicide, and obviously that would have deep
30:34
meaning to that person, and they may need somebody to talk to at the
30:38
moment. But the key point is we never take possession of the gun.
30:42
Okay, last text here before we let you go. Then we'll give the
30:45
information about the event. Again, it says Rakes hosmatics. Wouldn't it make
30:48
more sense to sell the gun to a gun shop or give it to a
30:52
family member? Guns to gardens seems like a way to guilt people into giving
30:56
up their guns and possibly wrap them out to Charleston cops. First of all,
31:00
we are not going to rat anybody out. As I mentioned. The
31:03
only thing that we are going to collect about the firearm, because that is
31:08
how the program is set up nationwide, is serial numbers, and it's you
31:15
know, yes, people can can distribute firearms however they choose. As Sarah
31:21
just mentioned that lady you know, dispersed her husband's firearms to to their sons.
31:29
Other people may not have that mechanism, you know. They they suddenly
31:33
a spouse passes away and suddenly they realize, Hey, I'm now the owner
31:37
of two hand guns and a shotgun and I don't want them in my house
31:44
and to sell them can leave you unsure about where where they end up eventually.
31:48
This is this is an assurance that people as well people people you know
31:56
people typically sometimes will soon of five things too, you know, like if
32:00
you said it was used in a suicide or maybe a murder or something like
32:05
that. And you know, I don't I can't sleep at night knowing that
32:07
that is out there. I know that may seem silly to some people,
32:10
but until you've gone through it, you may not realize that that. I
32:14
want to know that that is gone. So final textas what a great idea.
32:20
Thanks so much for the guns to guardens people. Suicides by guns among

Good morning, Welcome to the show. Hey Dave's good to see again.
36:40
What a month, or better yet, what a couple of days of
36:44
weather April second, April eleventh, here man. Yeah, it was essentially
36:46
just kind of two weeks in a row. We got to hit twice and
36:50
two you know. I mean, I think some people got damage winded in
36:52
water probably both times, but a lot of folks. It was two different
36:57
types of damage and it's going to be two different scenarios in terms of what
37:00
kind of relief you can get and what kind of claims you can make and
37:02
what help us out there. So so, first of all, thank you
37:07
so much for your time. I know how busy you all are, especially
37:08
during political season a little bit. Yeah, so this is this is not
37:13
a political appearance by me. I am in the legislature, but this is
37:15
part of my job. You know, as a legislator, you're supposed to
37:19
do these things. This is part of my work. So today's just to
37:21
talk about this event. You gave the time and place. We'll say it
37:24
again here in a little bit. This is going to be down in the
37:27
southern part of the county, which you did at that way on purpose.
37:30
That is in my district, but that part of the county sections of a
37:32
guy hit you know, pretty hard. I think the folks down the southern
37:37
part of the county sometimes think they maybe are forgotten a little bit, so
37:39
or trying and draw some attention to them. But also this is a fairly
37:43
new community center that the City of South Charleston actually built. It's a really
37:46
nice facility. Trying to highlight it as well. This South Charlestan If you
37:52
look at the map of sous Tralston, it is kind of crazy lot of
37:54
that it runs. Part of it runs a straight down quarter g almost to
38:00
Lincoln County. This community centers in the southern part of South Charleston, and
38:05
Mayor Frank Mullins right away immediately said, hey, we're going to let you
38:07
guys use this special things to him. Laura Marker is the city council person
38:12
for Ward four, which covers that area. She's been super helpful and she
38:15
is very involved in that community. So the City of South Charleson deserves credit
38:20
for lenn Us be there. And this started last week. I know you
38:23
have limited time, so I'm trying to come right to it. This started
38:27
last week. I've been involved in some disaster recovery efforts before, and one
38:30
of the things that I've seen in the past is when this happens. A
38:34
lot of folks don't know where to even start. They don't know who to
38:37
call, they don't know what resources are available with any they don't even know
38:39
who to contact. And they really just a lot of folks just go online
38:43
and they'll google you know, what do I do? You know? So,
38:45
which is not what you want to do. It's like going to web
38:47
md if you haven't met medical issue. So the thought I had was having
38:52
seen this in person before, folks not knowing what information there is or who
38:55
to even talk to. I thought, let's try to bring as many people
39:00
with knowledge into the room as possible and make it I've been calling this a
39:04
one stop shop. So and again, all these folks deserve credit. I
39:07
talked to Brian Abraham at the Governor's office immediately right away. Brian said,
39:10
we'll have somebody there, maybe even him. I'm not sure who can show
39:13
up. They're all busy folks. Maybe somebody from the Emergency Management Division,
39:17
from the state, county folks. CW. Sigmund from the County Emergency Management
39:22
Services, He'll be there. The county commission fully on board with this Commissioner
39:25
of Silango, Carper and Wheeler all supportive. We're going to have I think
39:30
I think Joey Crawford, the chief deputy from the Sheriff's department, is going
39:34
to be there. We're going to have some disaster relief organizations there, American
39:37
Red Cross, Erica Manny, super helpful. Margaret O'Neil from United Way here
39:43
in central West Virginia. She's on board and I think she may be there
39:45
on behalf of a couple organizations like West Virginia two one one also. So
39:50
we're going to introduce all those folks. I call all of them and started
39:53
emailing them last week. I mean, I will take credit for the idea.
39:57
I'll do that as a politician, but the hard work is being done
40:00
by them. Okay, that's the heavy lifting. And all of them immediately
40:04
said yes, So thank you to them. So they're going to be there.
40:07
I will introduce all of them, is the plan, and then they're
40:09
going to tell folks just quickly what their role is, what people can do,
40:15
Like mister Sigmund will explain that the county has these surveys they're called one,
40:17
two, three surveys, and if you suffered storm damage, step one
40:22
is to fill out those storm damage surveys, and we'll explain that process tonight.
40:27
If you're a listener and you can't be there, it's a one two
40:29
three survey, it's online. The reason why that's so important is number one,
40:32
if you qualify for assistance, that might be a step towards getting it
40:36
for you, but it also gives us a cumulative picture of how much damage
40:40
was done to our area. And it's a double edgedword. We don't want
40:44
there to be a huge amount of damage, but once you do cross the
40:47
threshold, that qualifies you for more assistance, for example from FEMA. And
40:52
we'll have people there tonight to talk about whether FEMA is going to get involved
40:54
in this. And I know the state is working extremely hard to get them
40:59
involved, but you have to have a certain amount of damage before you meet
41:01
their criteria. So in order to meet their criteria, we need everyone to
41:06
report. And I want to stress as well, even though this is going
41:07
to be and this would be a drive for some people, I mean,
41:10
wherever you have in the county is going to be you know, someone in
41:13
convenient for somebody county it is right. So if you live up north of
41:15
Clay County line, you know north of Elkview. This will be a drive
41:20
where you understand, but we also know there were folks like out in Tornado
41:23
appropriately enough, who suffered a lot of damage at Spith Creek area. We
41:28
know there were people out Winifred that you know, that area, the eastern
41:30
part of the county who suffered damage, especially from the wind. So we
41:35
tried to make it somewhat centralized at least for that subec could as best we
41:38
could. Anyone is invited. Yeah, I wind of stress. I almost
41:43
going to say that because it is going to be held out of the facility
41:45
out at sand Plant. Yes, but if you're on the on the complete
41:47
other end on the Putnam County line and you suffer damage, as long as
41:51
you're you know, this is open to anybody, not just people in that
41:53
area. Well it's you know, if you live across the line in Lincoln
41:55
County, you can come to this. Anybody is welcome. Now we will
42:00
have on the county level, there will only be kanall county representatives, but
42:02
I'm sure they can answer questions for anybody that's help. And we'll have people
42:06
again from the state there and the disaster relief organizations. They can answer anyone's
42:09
questions. We're going to help anybody who needs it. So again it'll be
42:13
Cannall County centric. Anybody's welcome. If you live anywhere in Connall County,
42:17
you know, and this is a thing. If this one is successful and
42:21
Dave, I have no idea, there could be ten people there night,
42:22
there could be one hundred. I don't know what's going to happen. I
42:25
hope there's more people that are help than there are people from the state and
42:30
county and legislature there. But if this is successful, I think, or
42:35
part of what I hope happens is it will spur this to be something we
42:37
can do in other places as well. Because what we want to do is
42:40
or my goal here is to bring the resources to you, not make you
42:45
have to hunt for what you need to get help, especially at a time
42:49
like this and floods. I'm sure you've seen this. A flood can be
42:52
worse than a fire. I mean, if your home has been flooded,
42:54
that can be the worst type of recovery. There are people out there probably
42:58
today who are still taking off or time away from family to try to patch
43:01
up their home just to live in it. So we want to bring the
43:05
help to you make it as convenient as possible in what we know is an
43:07
inconvenience situation, but just bring it to you and make this process as easy
43:14
as possible. We know is a tough situation, but avilance showing five ety

43:30

43:32
a minute or so, how are things in legislature go on? I know
43:37
we just had some committee meetings for the last couple of days. Governor is
43:39
going to reconvene next month. Your thoughts, anything that you'd like to see
43:44
on the call for next month. I'll leave the time up to you.
43:46
Well, next month will be a big meeting. That's where we're going to
43:49
address budget issues obviously, so a lot will be in the agenda. There
43:52
a lot that's publicized. Some of that's going to revolve around, for example,
43:57
the waiver program for folks who have disabilities, and that that's going to
44:00
be a big discussion needs to be addressed over here and competing thoughts on that,
44:04
so that's a big deal. There's childcare issues I think in this state
44:07
we need to address. That's a property for me personally and I think a
44:10
lot of other legislators. The interims we had this week were really just more
44:14
informational, but really really good. Tay. I would encourage members of the
44:16
public to check out our interim schedule and come to some of those meetings.
44:21
We have people talking about things like I went to a flood committee meeting for
44:23
example. I'm not on that committee, but I went to one. Super
44:25
informative for anybody. So that's what this week was. Next week will be
44:30
the one that gets a lot more Next month will be the one that gets
44:31
a lot more attention. So quickly I tell you the address again. Could
44:35
you're short on time tonight? Anyone and everyone is welcome. If you didn't
44:39
suffer damage, but know someone who did and you can help them, please
44:42
be there. This will be at the Washington District Community Center, thirteen thirteen

49:35
that the West Virginia law banning's transgender athletes for participating in girls athletics events violated
49:40
the rights of a student athlete. This is the case out of Harrison County.
49:44
Big News on that yesterday. The story is making the news nationally and
49:47
it does have national repercussions now. When the law was passed, most legal
49:52
experts said that it wouldn't stand, and it didn't. But it's not over
49:59
yet. And if you heard Brad's take on this, which I thought was
50:02
really really good, he said, well, you know, they're not throwing
50:06
this out. They're basically saying, we just don't have enough at this point,
50:08
and that's why it was overturned. Attorney General Republican candidate for governor Patrick
50:13
Morrissey is set to join Hoppy at the top of the show to discuss that.

show tomorrow two sports related items. One has to do with pickleball, the
50:58
other with the all high school sports here in the valley. There are some
51:01
folks that aren't too happy with some of the reclassifications of some sports teams by
51:06
the West Virginia s s a C. One of those is from Nitral High
51:08
His name is Garret Burdette. He's going to join us on the show tomorrow.
51:12
Plus, we have someone from the group's Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse on the
51:16
show tomorrow with one of the coolest names ever, pepper Penia. Pepper Pania
51:21
from Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse will be on the show tomorrow. In the interest
51:27
of time, I didn't get a lot of time yesterday to spend on this
51:31
and that is the investigation that is now officially wrapped up into the situation involving
51:38
former Charleston Police Chief Ty Hunt for a legied sexual misconduct. One of the
51:44
ladies making the accusation, spoke about it and voice her displeasure with her words
51:47
quite frankly some of the and some of the words of city council folks too,
51:55
the lack of transparency or simply informing the public as to exactly what the
52:02
punishment was for former police Chief ty Kunt. Now we do know that he
52:09
was demoted a couple of ranks and was suspended for an indefinite amount of time.
52:15
Councilwoman Shannon Snodgrass, who's been on this show numerous times, always welcome
52:17
to come back anytime, as well as former Mayor Danny Jones, were on
52:22
with Hoppy yesterday. Separately, they were on the show yesterday. I urge
52:25
you, if you haven't heard it, to go back and listen to that
52:27
show. And also, by the way, may want to check out Hoppy's
52:30
commentary that's available on the website and on our social media platforms as well.
52:35
Both Councilwoman Snodgrass and former Mayor Jones were on with Hoppy talking about it yesterday,
52:39
the Mayor's office and the city of course, saying that it's pretty much
52:45
a personnel matter, but many people are asking for a little bit more information
52:51
to come out about it, and some of those are on counsel and some
52:53
of those are in immediate some of those are in public. Again'll be discussed
52:58
this morning. More on on Hoppy coming up at ten o'clock or just that
53:02
actually be throughout the show. And I would say this a court of a
53:07
short short of a court order. I think I think we've got what we're
53:12
gonna get out of the investigation to ty hunt. That is my opinion this
53:16
morning. Texas has never thought I'd hear so many snowflakes crying about people choosing
53:21
to part with their guns. Not just kidding, anti choice, people cry
53:23
out anything that goes against their views. That'll be the final text of the
53:28
day. Hopy Kirch will come it up at ten oh six we'll talk line.
53:30
My producer was Ryan Nicholson. Thank you so much. Talking a little
53:32
sports tomorrow on the show. Just just a tad bit plus pepper Pana from
53:37
the Citizens against Lawsuit Abuse on the show coming up tomorrow. I will see

you then, have you some great Wednesday till tomorrow, Have fun and love
