- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, it is time or a wellness check? Does
- 0:04that mean? Elena Wood is on the line with us
- 0:06from Nightingale College. She is hi, Lena, Hello, Hello, How
- 0:12are you? I'm fine? Are you home or are you
- 0:13at Nightingale College?
- 0:16Speaker 2: I am actually at home. I get to work from
- 0:18home pretty much all the time, which is very nice.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yeah. So today, I like, we're going to talk about
- 0:25how to have a great day.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Well, we're talking morning routines, and our morning routines are odd?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Are you? I'm guessing most of these things are. Oh
- 0:36maybe we can do I don't know if I can
- 0:38do any of them. Like, how can I get a
- 0:40good night's sleep? I don't have any ideas what is
- 0:44a good night's sleep? Elena? What constitutes a good night's sleep?
- 0:48Speaker 2: So the ideal for most adults is somewhere between seven
- 0:53to nine hours of rest, full sleep.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I'm screened.
- 0:57Speaker 2: You know, we've talked. We talked a little bit about
- 1:01getting your nighttime routine down, about doing your wind down
- 1:06type of ceremonies, things like that before going to bed.
- 1:11So those are some of the things that can kind
- 1:13of help. And you know, a good night's sleep can
- 1:16lead to a good morning.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Yes, I know. I mean I used to know that
- 1:22a long time ago. Get rid of your phone too,
- 1:25I would think.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely so, doing our best to leave the phone
- 1:31alone for the first several minutes, maybe even the first
- 1:35hour of wakefulness during the day, So not hopping right
- 1:39in and checking the emails, looking at work, doom scrolling,
- 1:43things like that. You know, the phone is such a
- 1:46great tool, but ultimately it does cause a lot of
- 1:49stress in our life. So if we can avoid some
- 1:52of that stress first thing in the morning, then our
- 1:55day's gonna run a lot smoother. The doom scroll is
- 1:57what wakes me up, That's what gets me going in
- 2:00the morning. Get that blood pumping real fast, I got.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, turn on your radio to X ninety six of
- 2:06the morning instead of reaching for your poe.
- 2:08Speaker 2: That's it. Uh yes.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And then it says wake up, wake up with water. Yes,
- 2:14I think that's great idea.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Absolutely so, having some water to drink first thing in
- 2:20the morning can help to immediately improve your mood. It
- 2:25helps to prevent brain fob during the day, and it
- 2:28keeps your body energized. So if you're able just drinking
- 2:32a glass of water for thing in the morning and
- 2:34then continuing to thick water throughout the day.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Gina, do you drink water?
- 2:39Speaker 2: There is water in ditknew it. The first is the
- 2:44first ingredients, right, yes?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Now the next one. Eat a healthy breakfast like this morning,
- 2:52I started off with a big bowl of beans and
- 2:54a slab of bacon.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Is that so you got some protein? That's really good. Yes.
- 3:02So starting the day off with some healthy food and
- 3:05even maybe some party food, depending on what your day holds,
- 3:10could be a really good way to keep you energized
- 3:13and going throughout the day. My best recommendation is to
- 3:16include protein and some form of fruits or vegetables.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Okay, all right, grape I like grapefruit, and I don't
- 3:24eat it very often at all, but I should. I
- 3:27should eat more grapefruit. Grapefruit.
- 3:29Speaker 2: That is a good one. I love that.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Let's see. Now after breakfast, do something good for yourself?
- 3:37Speaker 2: Well reeah, I mean so this can be just about
- 3:42anything and taking a few moments to meditate or read,
- 3:48maybe going on a short walk or stretching your body
- 3:51out in the morning, maybe practicing a few positive affirmations,
- 3:58just spending one or two minutes prioritizing yourself, your mental health,
- 4:04your your overall well being. It's a really good way
- 4:07to start the day off on a good foot.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Stare into the mirror and what was the Stuart Smalley's affirmation,
- 4:13carry good enough, I'm smart enough and dogg on it
- 4:17people like and you know, good enough, I'm smart enough
- 4:22people like me do that. So that's uh. And then
- 4:27probably oh to do list is a really good idea.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely so. Having just some organization around kind of
- 4:35what you're going to be doing during the day. Maybe
- 4:38you have specific work tasks that you need to get done,
- 4:42or you know, knowing when kids need to be dropped
- 4:45off or picked up can be really helpful. And just
- 4:48knowing kind of what your main priorities are through the day.
- 4:52Having that documented somehow, it's a really good way let
- 4:56your brain kind of let go of the worry of
- 4:58it if you've got it written down, as well as
- 5:02it helps you stay on track so that you're more
- 5:04successful throughout that day.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes you. It makes you kind of accountable too,
- 5:09absolutely yes. All right, well those are those are I'm
- 5:13going to I'm gonna keep a copy of this and
- 5:15try and do more of them.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Good. I love that. We'll have to check in with
- 5:19you in the new year.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah, don't do that.
- 5:25Speaker 2: A positive you're gonna You're gonna.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Stick to some of this. I'm good enough, I'm smart enough,
- 5:30and gosh darn it, people like me. All right, Uh, Elena,
- 5:34where can people find out more about this if they
- 5:36have a mind to do it?
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yes, you can learn more about this as well as
- 5:41Nightingale's amazing programs by visiting Nightingales dot edu.
- 5:45Speaker 1: All right, thank you, we'll talk to you again soon.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Sounds good. Have a great day.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So when you said you had beans, I was wondering
- 5:53if you were having a proper English breakfast. Beans on toast,
- 5:57teens on toast. Yeah,
