- 0:00This is the best of Mosher, Lombardi and Kane. Happy President's Day from
- 0:05Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five. Let's sit out to me ramos La Line,
- 0:15ramos Law, Medical doctor and attorney, Ramoslaw dot com and all conversations
- 0:19with this man Jeff Lagwell ESPN dot com are brought to you by Betsave Colorado,
- 0:23the exclusive club for passionate gamers and betters across the state Legy. I
- 0:28have many questions for you following the Super Bowl from last week, and the
- 0:32first one is is it a big deal that the Niners players, all of
- 0:36them, were not aware of the overtime rule. It feels like it didn't
- 0:40matter in the end. But should that be something that Kyle Shanahan is criticized
- 0:45for. Yeah, I guess the criticism should be just the strategy of it.
- 0:52I don't know that players are always given the rundown of every decision,
- 0:59the base of every decision. I just think, you know, you know,
- 1:03it was new to everybody, and I think now it's pretty clear.
- 1:07If you have the ball second, you're in four down territory immediately, and
- 1:12that gives you an extra down sort of to play with without any risk.
- 1:19You know, other than not converting. But I think that was what I
- 1:22took away from it, just that it's pretty clear taking the ball first is
- 1:27is not awesome. I don't think because I especially if you have mahomes.
- 1:33Just just a quick follow up to it too, because I heard Plumbus Hastings
- 1:37and d mac talking about this, what would have happened if all the players
- 1:41weren't aware in the Niners scored a touchdown and sprinted onto the field thinking that
- 1:46they want and got a fifteen yard flag like chaos. It was new to
- 1:51everybody, and he made you know, look, we don't know in the
- 1:53heat of the moment. I've had players tell me ten minutes after the Super
- 1:57Bowl things they later said, hey, you know that wasn't quite right,
- 2:01or you know, I've had that happen. So in the heat of that
- 2:06moment, in the disappointment and the crushing disappointment, you're liable to say many
- 2:12things. I would be stunned if they did not go over it in a
- 2:16meeting at some point, and you know, people just sort of brush that
- 2:22aside. You know, maybe they didn't address it on the practice field.
- 2:25But it's really really hard for me to believe an NFL head coach didn't address
- 2:30that in a team meeting at some point. The fallout Jeffrey in San Francisco,
- 2:37to me is quite stunning for Steve Wilkes to be fired a day after
- 2:42that. And I looked at that game. I went back and thought about
- 2:45it. The defense wasn't bad. Hell, the offense has to finish a
- 2:49drive and overtime. Why does Steve wilts get the knife on a game that
- 2:54really wasn't his fault. Yeah, they come in and you talk to people
- 3:00in the league, and that's always going to be a question. It's like
- 3:02they were looking for somebody to to, you know, take the heat for
- 3:07it. I thought, you know, I thought Kyle looked really mad when
- 3:13they he called a time out late because he didn't like something the defense was
- 3:17doing. Whether it was a it looked like a cover zero look to me
- 3:23looking at it. But there's a late time out from Kyle when the defense
- 3:28is on the field, and you know, and it's just something like that.
- 3:32After the Super Bowl. It seems like an emotional decision. People make
- 3:37emotional decisions. I get it, but I don't know that one seems like
- 3:44he was thinking a long time, it wasn't quite a fit, and he
- 3:47just sort of did it after the season was over. And we don't know
- 3:51he may have done this anyway if they raised the trophy, you know,
- 3:53we don't know that. But I mean, now you're hearing for I'm hearing
- 3:59for people who are around the forty nine ers that you know there was some
- 4:05discontent there from Kydle about Wilkes anyway, so you know who knows, But
- 4:10it does look like a very rash, emotional decision just hours after the Super
- 4:14Bowl lost. You want to talk about an MVP as a coordinator. The
- 4:17fact that I think you could make a very easy case that Spagnolo is one
- 4:25of the MVPs of Kansas City season because Kansas City's offense was not the same
- 4:30as they were the past couple of years. They needed help and they got
- 4:32it out of that defense. The fact that they look that offense was what
- 4:36non existent for the first three ish quarters of that game and they were still
- 4:41this close to taking a lead the entire time. I mean, he's worthy
- 4:45of a whole bunch of praisees he not he is. I think that just
- 4:48tells you though. I mean, if you're a Bronco fan. It tells
- 4:53you they're structured pretty well as an organization because now they've they've won it sort
- 4:58of both ways. You know, they've they've won it with Mahomes free wheeling,
- 5:02and they've won it when they've slugged it out and put him in a
- 5:08position to win in the game up. You know. That to me is
- 5:13the takeaway. They are structured very well, and they and they were very
- 5:18quick to get Spagnola an extension right away. You know that's there. They're
- 5:27paying the guy for what he did, and they understand what he did.
- 5:30I'll tell you the other thing. If you're hearing the local around the local
- 5:36franchise, that is a concern. I mean, there are two numbers I
- 5:40take away from the Super Bowl. One of Mahomes is twenty eight. You
- 5:44know, wrap your head around that for a while. The other number,
- 5:47which is staggering to me, and I wish the local team would take note.
- 5:53The starting twenty two for the Chiefs and the Super Bowl. Sixteen of
- 5:57them are draft picks of theirs, and seventeen if you count the punter who
- 6:02was an undrafted rookie they signed, So seventeen of the top twenty four players
- 6:09are their own homegrown players. So we can talk about Mahomes and what he
- 6:15means, but this is an organization built around a franchise quarterback. And you
- 6:21know, we can keep dismissing the draft all we want, but it's the
- 6:27way you win until they accept it. At Dell Valley, we're going to
- 6:30be doing this limbo thing for a long time. Do you make it go
- 6:38ahead? Vic? I just think the whole draft limbo thing is amazing to
- 6:43me because every time we get on the radio and we talked to you,
- 6:46and we talk to anybody, we talked, well, could they move up?
- 6:47Could they go get a quarterback? Moving up's going to require to take
- 6:51a lot of those picks that we just speak of, and giving how many
- 6:55picks can a franchise give up before they figure out we got nothing to work
- 7:00with here. When does it end? Well, it better end now or
- 7:03I mean they're already at that point, you know they Sean Payton keeps touting
- 7:11that the Rams and the Packers dealt with big, dead money hits, but
- 7:16he forgets the second part of that question, which is those were the two
- 7:20youngest teams in the NFL, which Sean Payton does not possess. He possesses
- 7:26one of the older teams in the NFL. And those teams had twelve and
- 7:30thirteen draft picks respectively last April, and the Broncos have six, and that
- 7:35doesn't even include a second rounder. If they do anything, they should trade
- 7:39down this notion of going up. You're not getting any of those top three
- 7:45teams to surrender those picks. You're not, and you're not going to do
- 7:49it without giving them too much. And you've already done that and not stuck
- 7:55with the decision, which is why you're in the situation you're in if you're
- 7:59the Broncos. Something else to this, and look, this might be nothing,
- 8:03but it was something I was just kind of talking out loud about a
- 8:05couple of days ago. Was the idea of the timelines of the people who
- 8:09are in the biggest positions of power within the Broncos organization right now and their
- 8:13years aren't lining up. So like usually if you're starting over, you have
- 8:18a GM and a head coach and a quarterback that's all basically starting in year
- 8:22one. Well, the Broncos have a GM that's in year four, a
- 8:24coach in year two, a quarterback who could be in year one. It's
- 8:30isn't it kind of hard to make judgments on those positions of power within an
- 8:33organization when they don't align. That's a great point. They also have an
- 8:37owner that's not in you know, usually the owner is the longest timeline of
- 8:43all. Yeah, they don't even have that. I mean they have they
- 8:48have a guy who's obviously very immensely worldly successful in business, but he's still
- 8:54new to the NFL in a lot of ways. So yeah, that's that
- 8:58is a great point, and that timeline doesn't match up for what we've seen
- 9:03a lot of the time over the years when you're when you are building something.
- 9:09It also shows they haven't committed to very much over recent years. You
- 9:15know, they haven't been willing to ride it out. And I think that
- 9:18impatience is sort of catching up to him. And you know that the unwillingness
- 9:24to risk a bad season to see if they might get a good one is
- 9:28really catching up to this team and it's why they're at where they're at right
- 9:33now. And that's what I was wondering, Like you like, if you
- 9:35get to the draft, and let's say that Sean Payton, he knows he's
- 9:39got a long lease here. He wants to take a chance at a guy
- 9:41like JJ McCarthy at twelve or something like that. But George Payton probably doesn't
- 9:46have the luxury of waiting for this team to be bad a couple of more
- 9:48years. Maybe he's like, no, I think brock Bowers is the bet,
- 9:52Like, how do you get that everybody on the same page when they
- 9:56have different times of like how how much lease they have? Yeah, and
- 10:01that's happened before, and it is a tough thing in the draft, in
- 10:03the war room, is you know, is everyone's dealing with their own clock
- 10:09as it were. You know, you're a coaching staff is always going to
- 10:13want to lean toward now, because the coaching staff always figures their days are
- 10:18numbered, no matter what. I mean, they're very pragmatic about the fact
- 10:22it always ends in a firing if you're a coach, you know, no
- 10:26matter you know, ask Bill Belichick, you know, I guess uh so
- 10:31that there's always that battle, the battle between now and and down the line
- 10:37in any draft conversation. But they're going to have to be disciplined because with
- 10:41six picks, you can't reach on any and you know, that's the deal.
- 10:50Moser's working on a refrigeration system a big h vacating in Tampa, and
- 10:54he has a question from the closet there. I could, if I don't,
- 11:00you know, do better. But if you need listen, if you
- 11:01need any handiwork, Jeff, just give me a call. I noticed your
- 11:05microwave door back there is Uh, it's a little off kilter. Just let
- 11:09me know. I'll take care of things for you. But Jeff, what
- 11:11do you think you're going to get a tilt or a lean into which direction
- 11:15they're going to go? I mean, as I'm sure you guys talked about
- 11:18Sean Payton said, you know, sooner rather than later. I'm not sure
- 11:20exactly what that means timeline wise. But does he have the appetite to select
- 11:26a quarterback and draft and develop him or I mean where where's where? Do
- 11:31you think? You me? Everybody else is going to start to understand what
- 11:35direction they're going to go, where the lean is going to be. We
- 11:41may not see it. I mean they that's something they may not want to
- 11:46to get. I mean, I certainly will do what I always do,
- 11:48which is talked to as many people as possible who know. Uh, But
- 11:54there are a lot of unknowns here. I mean, we've no one's ever
- 11:56seen Sean Payton as a head coach with a with a rookie quarterback at the
- 12:01forefront. We don't know how that looks. We don't know how that goes.
- 12:05Even guys have coached with them for twenty years don't know that because they've
- 12:09never seen it. So there's a lot we don't know. But they only
- 12:16have six picks, and it is going to require discipline and coordination and agreement.
- 12:24And this notion you take a quarterback no matter what, it's just a
- 12:28recipe for you know, epic comment flameout. You know, if there's no
- 12:35agreement on the player and no plan to develop them, you might as well
- 12:39just cut them as soon as you draft them. To get it over with
- 12:43Legy. Before we let you go, I have one last question for you.
- 12:46What's the orange thing sitting on the counter behind your right shoulder. That's
- 12:50the that's a little statue of the Sapporo TV tower my son brought back from
- 12:56Japan. So that's oh cool. Yeah, that's that's the that's my rock
- 13:01and TV tower. That's my little good luck charm. So it looked like
- 13:05something from SpongeBob SquarePants from here. But I get it now, I see
- 13:09it. I see it's come on, man, that's this is the TV
- 13:13tower. It's the portal, very famous, very Japanese. Really. That's
- 13:20so. My son had this fixation with Japan and he wanted to go study
- 13:22abroad there and then COVID happened and it all got ruined. Is your son
- 13:26studying there or is he just visiting there? He went, He went for
- 13:31three months and he's going back. So he likes rocking it. I think
- 13:35he'll probably live there for a while. Wow. Yeah, my son is
- 13:37the same way. I wonder if they had the same thing in common.
- 13:41Do they both have an affinity for anime cartoons? I think they both want
- 13:48to be really far away from their dads. That reminds me of one of
- 13:56my favorite Fast and Furious movies. And nobody seem to like Tokyo Drift with
- 14:01a Little Bow. Wow. I thought that was a pretty dang good movie.
- 14:05Man. I thought it was really cool. You got the incredible?
- 14:09Man? Is that the deal? Hang on? Hang on, I'm gonna
- 14:11put one hundred bucks on this, Leggy. Have you ever seen the movie
- 14:16Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift. Oh yeah, that's uh. I've seen that.
- 14:22Sure, I've seen everything. I like two hours a day, I've
- 14:26seen all right, Jeff Legwell at the ESPN DI Com always appreciate the time,
- 14:31Legg you, Thank you buddy. All right, Jeff Legwell. All
- 14:35conversations with Leggy brought to you by bet Safe Colorado of the exclusive Cloud pro
- 14:37passionate gamers and betters across the state. Have you seen Fast and Furious Tokyo
- 14:41Drift? Same Fast and one. Fast and Furious one is the same plot
- 14:48as two, three, four, five six? What's the difference? But
- 14:52put because they're in Tokyo and they're drifting. It was really cool, you
- 15:00know. So so dude took his dad's Mustang and competed against the guys with
- 15:03like the you know, the Hondas and Toyotas and all that kind of stuff.
- 15:07It was really Yeah, it was really I love that kid. You
- 15:11know, he's on like a cop show now, the kid who played what
- 15:16a Drift is? Yeah, let's see it. He's taking his chair and
- 15:24moving across. You go really fast, but your car keeps going despite the
- 15:28fact that you're breaking. You go, oh, I know what drifting is
- 15:31when you're cycling, get behind the big pack. That's drift. Is that
- 15:37drift, that's drafts, drafting, drafting. Damn, you're right, Get
- 15:41my drifts and my drafts mixed, shaking bank, all right, three all
- 15:46three five O four nine two five. So Vic you you had Carmelo commenting
- 15:50a lot on our little back and forth yesterday on the show, on your
- 15:54Instagram. I want to get to that next
