- 2:35we're about to have a new judge here in the Circuit Court in Kandak
- 2:38County. We want to welcome and Stephanie Abraham, who later today we'll be
- 2:43sworn in as the new circuit judge serving the thirteenth Judicial Circuit here Kandak County.
- 2:47Stephanie, good morning, how are you? Good morning, Dave,
- 2:50I'm great, Thank you for having me, thank you for being it now
- 2:53to you right now, right right and for you always. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:55so you're just stepping it today. Okay. Now you are appointed to
- 2:59the office following the retirement Judge Duke Bloom at the end of June. And
- 3:02it's pretty amazing. Figure here, Stephanie. You are the sixth woman on
- 3:07the bench and a seven judge circuit. Right, that's not bad numbers for
- 3:13your gender, you know, No, it's wonderful. And I will say
- 3:17all the judges in the circuit have been so warm and welcoming to me,
- 3:22and so it's it's wonderful an opportunity to work with all of them. Tell
- 3:25us a little bit about you give us the bio instead of the Abraham.
- 3:28Sure. Well, I'm obviously an attorney. I have represented a large variety
- 3:35of clients in my life. I think I bring a really nice, broad
- 3:38perspective to the bench. Most recently, I've been working for the State Board
- 3:43of Education practicing education law. Done that for the department as well. I'm
- 3:47a small business owner on my own firm. We're practice real estate and property
- 3:53law. I've started my career in litigation. I've also taught at Higher ed
- 4:00and have a background in business. So I think I bring a new a
- 4:02unique perspective to the bench. So I'm excited to get started. So what
- 4:09is it about the law and eventually being a judge that interested you going back,
- 4:15you know, to your childhood or teen years or whenever you decided that
- 4:17you wanted to do this. This is something that you've always aspired to Did
- 4:20you just kind of fall into it? What's your what's your level of interest
- 4:25going back? Well, I've always wanted to be an attorney. I will
- 4:27fully admit I don't think I ever expected to be a judge, but I
- 4:32have always believed in public service. That's a big part of my life.
- 4:36And I think when you have the opportunity to serve your community and serve your
- 4:41county and deliver justice to those who bring the issues in front of the bench,
- 4:46then that's a unique opportunity and such an honor and a privilege to be
- 4:49able to do for the folks in this county. And you're following in some
- 4:53pretty big shoes or a robe or whatever you want ahead of Judge Duke Bloom
- 4:59is kind of a led figure here in the Canal val absolutely, and I'm
- 5:02just so grateful to him. He's been such a mentor to me and continues
- 5:08to be. I strive to to fill that seat with the same honor that
- 5:13he performed his judicial role. So so again we're talking with Stephanie Abraham,
- 5:18who later day will be sworn in as the newest Kanon County Circuit judge serving
- 5:21the thirteenth Judicial Circuit. Bear with me for a second under Stephanie. And
- 5:26this term has been thrown around a lot lately, and it's called legislating from
- 5:30the bench, meaning that critics of our current judicial system not necessarily I'm not
- 5:36talking about Canal County. I'm talking about our court system in American general.
- 5:40Many have said many have said that that that some judges see themselves as more
- 5:46trying to make laws than ruling on existing law. Now I'm not an attorney,
- 5:53obviously, uh So I don't know if too much is being made of
- 5:58that or not, but but you get the point. I'm going through any
- 6:00comment from you on those criticisms. Sure, and we've certainly heard that even
- 6:04at the highest levels of our judiciary. I don't believe that that is would
- 6:10be my role as a judge. We do not create laws. We enforce
- 6:15and interpret the laws as they are written. I will not bend or shape
- 6:20any law to get any kind of conclusion ahead of time. In each case
- 6:26that comes before me and my bench will be decided solely on the facts and
- 6:29the law of that particular case. And as an attorney and now as a
- 6:33judge you and again there's not a heck of all that you or any person
- 6:38on the bench can do about this. But primarily what you are going to
- 6:42see is going to somehow be related to opioids. I mean, so you
- 6:46know the crimes I mean, a law enforcement and attorneys and whoever will tell
- 6:48you that what does it's probably ninety percent of the cases that come through somehow
- 6:55are related to whether they're theft or whatever, somehow are related to drugs.
- 6:58Yes, I think that's true. Certainly in my experience in my career,
- 7:02I've seen how that's impacted kids, especially students here in West Virginia. I
- 7:08see with those families and those children are dealing with on a daily basis,
- 7:13and it's certainly an enormous problem. But we owe that to them to make
- 7:16sure we make good decisions on their behalf, because certainly they are the future
- 7:21of our communities, the future of our state. They're they're hard cases,
- 7:27but that's certainly something that I take very very seriously, will do my utmost
- 7:30to make sure that, you know, we deliver good decisions for those kids.
- 7:36So what are you most looking forward to as after you're sworn in today
- 7:43at day one on the job, what are you most looking forward to?
- 7:45Well, I'm looking forward today one on the job actually actually getting Yes,
- 7:48so that's exactly what I'm looking to do. I intend to hit the ground
- 7:53running on Friday. I am grateful to Judge Bloom he has left. So
- 7:58you're sworn in today and then tomorrow morning you report to work exactly. That's
- 8:01the way the works, That's how it goes. Yeah. So so I
- 8:05am absolutely looking forward to getting started and diving in. And like I was
- 8:09saying that the you know, there's a great staff already in place in that
- 8:13office, so very much looking forward to getting started with all of them.
- 8:16Well, wish you the best of luck in congratulations. Now, that ceremony
- 8:20is today in the courtroom of the Kana County Courthouse at two thirty and I'm
- 8:24saying Governor Justice himself is going to be doing the ceremony. Yes, I'm
- 8:28honored. He will be delivering the oath to me. So it's it's it's
- 8:31wonderful that he's agreed to do that. I'm just very grateful. Well,
- 8:35congratulations and the best of luck of everything, with everything, and anytime that
- 8:39you want to come back on the show, you're more than welcome to and
- 8:43we wish you the best of luck. And again where the ceremony is a
- 8:45two thirty this afternoon. Friends, family and everybody will be there to support
- 8:48you. And then they look at you and go, all right, it's
- 8:50time to go to work, man. That's right, already, get started,
- 8:52all right? That Stevidie Abraham again. She will be sworn in later
- 8:56today as the newest Kana County Circuit Judge, serving the thirteenth of Judicial Circuit.
- 9:00Congratulations in your appointment, and good luck with everything with the swearing end
- 9:03today and good luck tomorrow, and I hope I don't see you well no,

- 11:48ending doesn't necessarily mean that we're gonna stop talking about the Dirty Birds, because
- 11:52there's things going on at the ballpark long after the season is over. Eton
- 11:56Douglas from the Dirty Birds actually going to join us tomorrow to talk about some
- 12:01things going on as it relates to the ballpark. I want to talk about
- 12:05some food. I'm wanna talk about ribs Now. Rib Fest is back.
- 12:07It starts had at Riverfront Park later this afternoon today, tomorrow and Saturday and
- 12:13Sunday as well. Aeron Wood and Morgan Robinson joined us. Talk about it.
- 12:16Guys, good morning, how are you get mort it? We're hungry?
- 12:20Well, yeah, yeah, we're thinking about ribs already. I just
- 12:24read that one of the guys, just one of the vendors, five thousand
- 12:28pounds of meat, and that's just one of them. They're ready, They're
- 12:33ready for us to come and all the sides that come along with See.
- 12:35I'm a big believer, guys. I I love the ribs and I love
- 12:39the brisket and everything, but if you don't have the quality sides, yeah,
- 12:43you know, it ruins the meal. I mean glad you said that
- 12:46because I was afraid to say it. It's like an unpopular opinion, but
- 12:48I fully agree. You gotta paint the whole picture exactly. You gotta have
- 12:52the big beans, the cold slaw of whatever else did you have with So
- 12:54now again I want to make sure people realize rib Fest had been at Shawnee
- 13:00the last few years. It is at Hadad Riverfront Park now, Aaron Wood
- 13:05is it's kind of the CEO of this thing. Now, So what are
- 13:07you most looking forward to this year? Aaron? Well, I'm looking forward
- 13:11to bring in a big party to the city of Charleston. We are having
- 13:16ribs from a rib vendors from all over the East coast, Texas, North
- 13:20Carolina, South Carolina. These are some big boys, you know. They
- 13:22can throw out a lot of ribs and their ribs are finger licking, lip
- 13:26smacking, good good stuff. Yeah and uh and again people maybe listen,
- 13:33they said, I'm not really into ribs. The thing about it is,
- 13:35there's a whole lot more than just ribs. There a whole lot more,
- 13:39a whole lot more. I mean, there's different meat choices obviously, but
- 13:41Lake, you said, if you're in the game for the sides, we've
- 13:43got you covered on that as well, dessert everything, And we've got our
- 13:46local boys, dempty brothers are going to be there, and we've got all
- 13:50kinds of ways that you can support us, support the Charleston community and just
- 13:54have an amazing time with your family while you're doing it. And there are
- 13:56literally guys, people literally coming from all of the country for this. I
- 14:01mean, I mean every year, how many vendors were looking at them,
- 14:05but approximately, I know it's a ballpark figure how many we look at.
- 14:07Approximately, we're looking at approximately forty vendors. Food Oh, we have different
- 14:11types of businesses. They're gonna be showcasing their business as well. And then
- 14:15we have a five hundred foot fund zone for the kids, about twenty different
- 14:20rides and inflatables that they can get on for the day. And then on
- 14:24top of that, you know, we've got all the great entertainment that's going
- 14:26to be there all weekend long. And I want to get into that.
- 14:28That musical lineup, man, I tell you that. I mean it's We've
- 14:31got some big time heavy hitters that people, you know, some local folks,
- 14:35some regional folks, and some nationally in world right now, people like
- 14:39Confederate Railroad, like Kentucky head hunters that are going to be there. What
- 14:43exactly is the musical lineup? So we're gonna be kicking things off tonight with
- 14:46the Esquires. They are popping everything off on this amazing Thursday. We've got
- 14:52the Vandal band Best of Oneona, which is a Oneono Jedd tribute band.
- 14:56And I'll tell you that is one thing that I've heard more about than anything
- 14:58else. People love the Juds. I'm from Kentucky, so I'm a Jet
- 15:03fan myself. Yeah, mandatory in Kentucky Weretory in Kentucky. We all think
- 15:07we're related to them or Billy Ray Cyrus in one way or the other.
- 15:11I chose to go the Judds path. I think I chose wisely, So
- 15:13we're gonna go with that. So aswere is. Actually tomorrow night, we've
- 15:16got the Blues Brothers John Ellison Carpenter Aunts, which amazing local group that everybody's
- 15:22familiar with. You're very own Woody Woods. It's gonna be spinning some tunes
- 15:26for us. On Saturday or on Friday, we've got Charlie Brown Coasters,
- 15:30Polly and the Grease Balls, which may be the best name for a band.
- 15:35That's the Golden Oldies Night. And then on Sunday we are finishing everything
- 15:39out, like you said, Confederate Railroads cap in the evening off. We've
- 15:41also got Sole Moments and the wing eating contest, which will be the most
- 15:46highly contested battle outside. And I've got the full lineup and there have been
- 15:50some additions to them. I'm gonna go over that a little bit later on.
- 15:54But getting back to the food, getting back to the visit. One
- 15:58of the great things I like about about rib Fest again, as you said,
- 16:00there's that local element in there. There always has been with rib Fest
- 16:03at all, twenty three years of it. But then you go and you
- 16:07look and you look at the at the people and where they come from,
- 16:11and they've all, you know, generally speaking, got their banners out there.
- 16:12If it says we won this in North Carolina, we won this in
- 16:15Texas, we won this, I mean, these are some These are some
- 16:18heavy hitters that come here. Aaron, Oh, absolutely, uh. And
- 16:22they know how to cook ribs. They're all smoked ribs. Last night they
- 16:26put all their smokers to work. And you know, the smell that I
- 16:30was walking up and down the boulevard, the smell of those ribs cooking,
- 16:34it was just mouth watering. Yeah, And it would not be possible without
- 16:40the sponsors, and the sponsors make it all happen. So we've gotta,
- 16:42you know, we gotta, as they used to say, the old cliche
- 16:45was paused for the cause. But you've got to give them an opportunity.
- 16:48You've got to go. One of you guys are gonna have to throw out
- 16:49the sponsors there, so make sure we get them all in there, all
- 16:52right, Leave that one up to Aaron. But yeah, it's all about
- 16:56the sponsors. It's all about the community members that come out and they support
- 17:00their own and have a great time. While Danna, I also want to
- 17:02throw in if you were worried that we are not aware that there is a
- 17:06football game on Saturday. There is. I know I've heard about it,
- 17:10not sure, something called the backyard Brawl. I've been hearing Sweet Caroline in
- 17:12my dreams and I don't know why. But we've got it covered. So
- 17:17you don't have to hang out at home, you don't have to go to
- 17:18to Morgantown. We have got the biggest tailgate this side of Morgantown going on,
- 17:23Aaron, you want to talk a little bit about what you guys have
- 17:26set up for the w game. Sure, So, we got a twenty
- 17:29foot LCD screen that's going to be set up on the boulevard on Saturday,
- 17:32and our goal was to have the biggest tailgate outside of Morgantown for the game
- 17:37on Saturday. We're going to be selling some great T shirts for everybody to
- 17:40wear for the game. We'll be setting up a special beer tent next to
- 17:42the next to the screen, and we hope to have a bunch of people
- 17:48out to watch the game, eat some ribs and have a few refreshments.
- 17:49Now, Explain how the beer tent is going to work, because that's something
- 17:52I think, I mean, I mean, it's obviously it is a tent
- 17:56that's kind of separate from everything else. Explain how that'll work. Well.
- 18:00Obviously, we'll be selling beer at the at the event, so we'll have
- 18:04Spriggs distributing, Miller Light, bud Light, Mountain State Brewing all at our
- 18:11event. We have five or six different stations throughout the boulevard to get around.
- 18:15Plenty of other drinks too. Of the non alcoholic variety of Pepsi was
- 18:18a big sponsor this year, so we'll be selling pepsi this year as well.
- 18:22And there's usually I don't I mean, based on a year's pastors,
- 18:25usually somebody selling something other than SODA's too, like a lemonade or something like
- 18:29that. Did use somebody frozen lemonade, regular lemonade, iced tea, all
- 18:33that good stuff. Quantum Sports one of the sponsors there, Polka, Valley
- 18:37Bank, Optimum, West Banco, Gil Martin. Of course, we're a
- 18:41big part of that too, the stations, the WVRC media, and we're
- 18:42proud to be a part of that. And Morgan. The weather looks fantastic.
- 18:48He did a good job on the weather, Davi. You know,
- 18:48I called in a lot of favors. Yeah, there might have been some
- 18:51blackmail involves, but mother Nature is on our side. Knock on every surface
- 18:55in this station. But the weather is looking absolutely amazing for the next four
- 18:59days. If you get the meat Sweats, you'll be cooled down. It's
- 19:02gonna be just fine. I'm telling you. We are making names of bands
- 19:06the Meat Sweats, but I feel like that could be a whole show and
- 19:08in of itself, you know, two cats in a bag. I don't
- 19:11know. We have plenty of ideas for band names. But yeah, I
- 19:14mean, there's truly something for everyone. And you don't have to walk far
- 19:17to have a lot of different types of entertainment. Like Aaron said, we've
- 19:19got the game going on on Saturday. You can also watch live music while
- 19:22that's happening. You've got your kids with you. We have the entire Kids
- 19:26Zone. Let me interrupt the Kids Zone talk about what's going to be going
- 19:30on in the Kids Zone. So the Kids Zone has over twenty different rides
- 19:33and inflatables presented by Quantum Party Rentals. So lots of things for them to
- 19:37jump around, bounce around on, have fun, get out all of that
- 19:41energy so you can enjoy the rest of your evening. We've got a petting
- 19:44zoo and I think there's also gonna be a dinosaur there. Do you want
- 19:48to talk a little bit about that. Yeah, we're gonna have the dinosaur
- 19:52experience. So we have a huge t rex that comes in and we'll be
- 19:56going up and walking up and down the boulevard. It actually looks like a
- 20:00real dinosaur, so it would be a photo opera. Give us the hours
- 20:03again, Well, we'll be open for lunch today from eleven to two,
- 20:07all right, so let me let me jump in there. So you people
- 20:10in downtown Charleston with all do I mean we have with great businesses deep downtown
- 20:12Charleston, but sometimes you'd like to have something a little bit different than you
- 20:15can't get every day. So so if you're listening to us in one of
- 20:18the law offices of the banks or something in downtown Charleston, you are open
- 20:22for lunch today. Yep. We're open for lunch today and tomorrow, Thurs
- 20:26Friday, Okay, and then the event opens all that, the whole event
- 20:30opens on Thursday and Friday at four and runs still ten and then Saturday we're
- 20:33open from eleven to ten and Sunday we're open from twelve to nine. All
- 20:37right, so let's talk about this wing eating contest. And this is gonna
- 20:41be Sunday, Is that right? Sunday at six o'clock. We got Major
- 20:42Harris coming in. Yes, so we've got Yeah, we've got Major Harris.
- 20:47We have another WVU legend, and Avon Coburn. I think that's gonna
- 20:51be a part of It's going to be part of it. Kenny Bass,
- 20:55last year's champ, Brian Oxley. I was actually at rib Fest there of
- 21:00last couple of years, and I don't remember. And Aaron you may know
- 21:03this. You remember exactly how many wings he ate and what the timeframe was,
- 21:07do you remember, because I don't. I do not remember. I
- 21:10was actually, but it was a whole heck of a lot of wings.
- 21:12I think that's the official number. Came in second. And he is gunning
- 21:17this year. Okay, he's been training. So you got Major Harris,
- 21:22you got, as I said, Kenny Bass, you had Avon Coburn.
- 21:23You've got Brian Oxley, who was last year's winner Anthony Lewis is going to
- 21:27be part of it. Jim Strawn, Uh, the underdog, I think
- 21:32yeah, I said that on the show yesterday, with all due respect to
- 21:33Jimmy, with respect, I'm like, okay, but I'm here for him.
- 21:38I'm gonna I'm gonna for him. I'm here for him. I'll be
- 21:41the wom beneath his wing. And and a couple of our folks here from
- 21:48eleven eleven we got Woody Woods. Yeah, who's gonna be a big part
- 21:51of this thing anyway, Because you said he's gonna be performing, He's gonna
- 21:53be performing. So he's warming up on Friday and then he's eating on Sunday.
- 21:57And also, my good exactly what Rob is doing? Uh with this?
- 22:03You know, Robin's been with us for a couple of months. He
- 22:04actually was here before and then the left and came back. Robin's got this
- 22:08thing going with his hair and and he's been growing it out and he's been
- 22:12he's been a big social media thing. And there's gonna be something happen with
- 22:17Rob's hair at rib Fest. At rib Fest, He's doing something with rib
- 22:22Fest. And maybe I'll get him on the show to talk about him.
- 22:25But if you follow Rob on social media and you follow KWS our sister or
- 22:30Superstar Country Sister station, Rob's got this long, flowing like curly hair and
- 22:36he's been growing it out, and he's been promising that he's going to do
- 22:38something special at rib Fest. As it relates to the hair, the hair
- 22:42won't be anywhere near the food. So you got the wing eating contest.
- 22:48What does the winner get? Just the championship or big old trophy? About
- 22:52that big yeah? And some man, some pepsin or some man asked something,
- 22:55right, maybe I think we all know bragging rights. Oh yeah,
- 22:57I mean three hundred sixty four days of bragging rights until next year. And
- 23:03if Avon's coming for it, I mean I'm interested what he's already talking about
- 23:07it. He's been talking already about it. And but you get these other
- 23:10folks that are in there, and don't underestimate Kenny Bass. I'm not underestimate
- 23:12anybody. I think it is anybody's game. This is going to be a
- 23:15more heated contest in the backyard brawl. It may it may very well be.
- 23:19So what kind of work goes into this? This is your your first
- 23:22year as part of this are there's a whole lot of work that goes into
- 23:26a big old event like this. There is a tremendous amount of work,
- 23:30actually more work than I realized. I mean, from organizing the sponsors,
- 23:34organizing the vendors, all the licensing, all of the city licensing, all
- 23:40the Health department licensing, all of the inflatable licensing, setting up the actual
- 23:45layout to set up day, and getting all the vendors on the same page
- 23:51so that you have a successful event and all the equipment is there that you
- 23:53need. Is is definitely a huge undertaking. You know, we've been throwing
- 23:57parties for people through Quantum Party Rentals for years, so this was our first
- 24:03chance, you know, to throw our own party to kind of thank you
- 24:07City of Charleston for the years of support with our businesses and come down.
- 24:11There's no charge this year. You pay for your ribs. Sure, yeah,
- 24:15you gotta pay to get into the fund zone for your kids, but
- 24:18come down, listen to music, enjoy yourself, forget about your troubles,
- 24:22you know, and let's have a part. So if you're looking for again
- 24:23free entertainment, we can't give you the ribs for free. We can't give
- 24:26you the kids zone for free. But if you want to come down,
- 24:29I mean when when else are you going to get the opportunity to come down
- 24:33and see a group like you know, Confederate Railroad, Kentuckie Headhunters. Then
- 24:36why I own attribute all these others that you mentioned absolutely free of charge.
- 24:38Yeah, it's absolutely free of charge. It's on the boulevard. And I
- 24:41know that you started I think yesterday and trying to get ready way you started
- 24:45a long time ago getting ready, But I'm talking about logistically on site.
- 24:48I think it was yesterday with the closing down some of the streets, and
- 24:51we want to make sure people realize if they are coming into Charleston to work
- 24:55or to shop or doctor's appointments or whatever, that there are some street closures
- 24:57associated with this. But it'll all be over here in a couple of days
- 25:00and it's going to be worth it, as I said, to get all
- 25:03these people, and any estimate on the crowd what you'd like to see.
- 25:04I know you, I know you're gonna say a millionaire, but I mean,
- 25:07I mean any any any crowd estimates here. I mean, if we
- 25:11could get forty thousand people there, I would be super excited. Yeah,
- 25:15I mean, I think it's totally doable. I don't know why you could.
- 25:18We have a text or somebody said, please try your best to sink
- 25:21the video with Tony Kariti. So we'll we'll try try to work that out.
- 25:26They want to play by play of Tony Kariti. Yeah, text says
- 25:30that the wing contest is the wing contest about how many you can get or
- 25:33how hot you can go. Now it's about the volume, right, the
- 25:36volume we're going for quantity. Yeah, it's not about the heat or anything.
- 25:40I do like that idea concept. I mean, yeah, you could
- 25:45do something like that maybe in the future. Maybe do you know who can
- 25:48stand the hottest with? Of course that's going to involve attorneys and and contracts
- 25:52and things of that nature. Waivers being right now on your Facebook page,
- 25:56your website, what's the best place to follow all the So we're pretty active
- 26:00on Facebook. We're gonna be doing some live videos down there today to give
- 26:03everybody a little insight of what they can expect and what you can look forward
- 26:07to. You can also find us on wvrebfest dot com. We've got the
- 26:11full lineup, schedule of activities, everything that's going on there. But yeah,
- 26:15Facebook is a great way to follow us Charleston WV Robfest. We're going
- 26:18to have all the updates, all the information and a little behind the scenes
- 26:22peak at what's happening today through Sunday, all right, and give us the
- 26:25hours again. So today we're open for lunch. We're opening at eleven,
- 26:30will be open from eleven to two, and then again this evening until ten
- 26:33pm. We're open this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Aaron, what is
- 26:37it Saturday and Sunday that our hours are. Saturday is going to be eleven
- 26:41to ten at night and Sunday will be one o'clock tonight at night. All
- 26:45right. Again, the activities that we're talking about are free. The food's
- 26:48not free, but the activities are. So there's not a charge to get
- 26:51in to bring the entire family down. If you would just want to come
- 26:53in and take in the concerts or whatever, we want you to buy the
- 26:56ribs and all the sides and everything that goes. But but you know,
- 26:59we don't have to food items available there too. It's not just about barbecue,
- 27:02oh absolutely. I mean, if you want to come down and have
- 27:03world class cheesecake, you want to come down and have Zul's frozen drinks.
- 27:08If you want to come down and have Oshe's Asian cuisine. You know,
- 27:14there's gonna be all kinds of different cuisines to choose from. We have Cosumel
- 27:18bringing in the Mexican cuisine, really anything you could possibly want. And again
- 27:23that the fact that w VU and PIT just happens to fall on that Saturday
- 27:27night. This is if you're not going to make it to Morgantown, forget
- 27:30about, you know, watching it in a sports bar, forget about watching
- 27:33it at home or whatever. Come down here among you know, at that
- 27:37particular night, maybe ten thousand of your closest friends and watch it on the
- 27:40big screen down there. That's gonna be pretty good stuff. And enjoy some
- 27:41great food along the way as well. And again, Quantum Sports Center,
- 27:45hats off to you guys, you know, for doing this, and Quantum,
- 27:48you just did a fantastic job. Poke Valley Bank, Optimum, West

- 28:02you being here, Morgan. Always a pleasure to have you as well.
- 28:04We'll be looking forward to your videos that you'll be doing from there. Tell
- 28:07us all about it. Tell me if I have barbecue on my face,
- 28:11Nah, I'm not going to do that. I'm gonna say it. Look,
- 28:12I must say it looks fine whether you whether whether you're covered being barbecue.
- 28:17You know, if you've got barbecue on your face, that's a sign
- 28:19of a successful event. Yeah, in a good day. And don't wear
- 28:22your white shirts. That's probably not a good idea. Do not wear a
- 28:26white shirt to this day because it's not it's not a successful rib event.
- 28:30If you don't come home with barbecue on you. You gotta do that.
- 28:33And let me mention this too before we let you guys go. I'm presuming
- 28:37that all these vendors are going to have to go orders available as well,
- 28:40right, because that's generally what they do. Yeah, you want to come
- 28:42down for a lunch today, you only have fifteen twenty minutes. You come
- 28:45in, you grab your lunch you had back and eat it at the office.
- 28:48You know, we want you to stay and enjoy the entertainment and enjoy

- 32:51said, looks absolutely fantastic. I think there was a like a slight chance
- 32:53of a shower maybe popping up over the weekend, but over the next couple
- 32:57of days, man, especially, it's gonna be gonna be nice. And
- 32:59they did ask me to mention again that they are going to be open for
- 33:01lunch today at rib Fests. So again, if you're one of the folks
- 33:05and we have great, great dining opportunities in downtown Charleston, don't get me
- 33:09wrong, but sometimes even owned something a little bit different. It's not every
- 33:13day that you can get ribs, you know, that are that are prepared
- 33:15by people from all over literally all over the country. So they asked me
- 33:20to mention that they will be opening up for lunch down there. So if
- 33:22you're one of the folks that works downtown and you're looking for something just a

- 33:50He the Circuit Judge of Kana County coming up later today after the swearing at
- 33:54two thirty Texas. It's so nice we can celebrate an unelected bureaucrat whose political
- 33:59connections enable them to receive the power to tell others what to do. So
- 34:04be it, so be it. So let's talk a WVU for a moment.
- 34:08No, I'm not talking about the backyard brawl. The governor yesterday said
- 34:14he supports the so called budget tightening at West Virginia University. Belt tightening,
- 34:19I think was the term that he used. The governor went on to say
- 34:22that he has quoting now all the confidence in the world in WVU President Gordon
- 34:30Gee, and we're talking about this forty five million dollars in deficits, with
- 34:36many experts saying that that could raise to as much as seventy five million dollars.
- 34:43So as it stands, right now. The Board of Governors are due
- 34:49to meet at ten thirty this morning, and there will be a public comment
- 34:52period as part of all that I understand now. Tomorrow morning, at nine
- 34:59the Board Governors will gather again, and as I understand that, that meeting
- 35:05will include a vote on final recommendations on what officials at WV are calling academic
- 35:13transformation. The board could look at cutting as many as one hundred forty seven
- 35:21faculty positions and up to one hundred and thirty academic programs. So who exactly
- 35:30are the Board of Governors, Well, there are several and there are some
- 35:34names that are familiar. Brad mcahanny points out at the story at WV metronews
- 35:38dot com leads stories a matter of fact, when you go there, Charlie
- 35:44Capita, who's the husband Senator Shelley Moore Capito and the father of Delegate and
- 35:50gubernatorial candidate More Capito, have more, more and more if you will,
- 35:53coming up in a couple of moments. He's part of it, not more
- 35:57capital. I'm talking about Charlie Breakcare. He formerly a media mogul here in
- 36:02West Virginia with several media holdings, including locally at one time WOWK TV thirteen
- 36:09and at one time a trusted advisor to the governor. Just a few of
- 36:15the people that are are on board now now some Democrats in the legislature want
- 36:22the governor to call a special session to deal with all of this delicate John
- 36:29Williams from mon County was one of those, and he was on Hoppy talking
- 36:35about it yesterday. So it's going to be a busy two days as it
- 36:39pertains to this huge story. And I know there are those I'm talking to
- 36:45somebody that I said, I'm so sick of hearing about WU. Well,
- 36:49you know, this is the land grant institution for the stay of West Virginia,
- 36:52and what has happened there is indicative of problems in higher education across America.
- 36:59And as and I've said, and I've talked to everybody on both sides
- 37:01of the aisle, both sides of the story, people with different opinions,
- 37:05they all agree the entire country literally is watching what goes on with the story,
- 37:10at least the entire country as it pertains to higher education. Because the
- 37:15problems that are going on at WVU are not exclusive to West Virginia University.
- 37:22They are happening at universities across America fore and there's various reasons why, and
- 37:28there's been plenty of finger pointing to go along. And this group did it
- 37:31and it's Gordon Gey's fall or this girl. I mean, there's a lot
- 37:34of blame to go around. But this story is getting nationwide attention as it
- 37:39because they're facing the same things in other states as it pertains to higher education
- 37:45as well. So Brad mclahanny is always on top of the story and he'll
- 37:49be covering it exclusively, well not exclusively, but in depth, I should
- 37:52say, at WV metro News dot com and all the social media sites as
- 37:59well, so you want to definitely follow along with that. Speaking of delicate
- 38:07Capito, as I was earlier, he was on with Hoppy yesterday and he
- 38:10says he will endorse and support Governor Justice who wants to be Senator Justice.
- 38:20Brad with a story posted WV Metronews dot com and you can actually on the
- 38:23when you go to the web page, you can actually listen in case you
- 38:25missed a listen to a clip of the audio as part of the Brad story
- 38:30that he posted, among other superlatives about the Governor Moore, Capito called Governor
- 38:37Justice, lifelong West Virginian referred to him, which is true, lifelong West
- 38:42Virginian much like himself. I thought it was interesting the way he chose that
- 38:47warding to say, like myself, Jim Justice is a lifelong West Virginia.
- 38:52That is a not so subtle jab at Congressman Alex Mooney and probably probably a
- 39:01little jab at one of More Capital's opponents for governor, at being Attorney General
- 39:07Patrick Morrissey. But the interesting thing to look at here is did Jim Justice
- 39:15then endorse More Capital for governor? Well, no, he says he has
- 39:21nice things to say about More Capital, but he says he will endorse a
- 39:24candidate at some point, the candidate that will take his job as governor.
- 39:30But he's not ready to do that just yet. And keep in mind,
- 39:35folks, that it's only September. It used to be, as you've heard
- 39:40me say before, all this political talk for the next year started at Labor
- 39:45Day. It looks like Steve Williams maybe the only one the Huntington mayor that
- 39:49adhered to that, that announced his run on the Democratic side for governor on
- 39:52Labor Day at the at the UMWA picnic and racing. He's the only one
- 39:57that really followed that old, that old unwritten rule, if you will,
- 40:00about not getting things going until Labor Day. The others have already been out
- 40:06out raising money and shaking hands and kissing babies and doing whatever else it is
- 40:10you have to do to get elected. These more more about raising money than
- 40:14it is babies and hands. I can tell you that. But we had
- 40:16a lot of positioning to go between now and them. Phone calls to five

- 40:52know. Texted. I agree with the texture about the judge, and I
- 40:55think that was the one that talked about unelected bureaucrats. I mean, it's
- 41:00just the way the system is set up. It's just the way it is.
- 41:05Tech says, why is it always rich people get on these boards and
- 41:08public service commission? Who's looking out for the middle class and poor? I
- 41:13think this is why these schools are in the shape that they're in, just
- 41:16saying, well, you know, there is something I think to be said
- 41:21for that. But I think there's also something to be said for people that

- 41:28tends to be people that have a lot of experience in life with dealing with
- 41:32these things in their business world and whatever that's And are we gonna lie and

- 44:27Now it's actually not being held down there, it's actually being held I understand,
- 44:30huh in Nitro on Saturday. But they're kind of tying it in with
- 44:35rib fests again, proving that these things are not just about one town or
- 44:38one particular community. So he wanted us to UH to remind you, and
- 44:43you could simple Google search will be able to find that it's the first annual
- 44:46uh rib Fest tournament. And Todd File who put on the nine to eleven
- 44:51tournament. According to what John told me, H the nine one one tournament,
- 44:53I should say is UH is the one that's doing this. Will be
- 44:55in Nitro on Saturday, UH little program we note about tomorrow's show. Of
- 45:00course it's Friday Funhouse, which means we'll have Hannah Gardener from the Canal Charleston
- 45:04New Main Association with our doot me please pet of the Week. So many
- 45:07things going on this area this weekend. We don't want to forget that this
- 45:09is the final weekend for the Charleston Dirty Birds at home. They've been out
- 45:15on the road. They're coming back to go Mark Ballpark with games Friday,
- 45:17Saturday and Sunday. Are good friend Douglas is going to stop by to talk
- 45:21about that and some of the things that are going to be going on during
- 45:23the off season over at the ballpark and also tomorrow. My special guest toast
- 45:29is a gentleman that is certainly no stranger to this building here at eleven eleven
- 45:34Virginia Street, easton Charleston, and to this microphone in this room, Rick
- 45:37Johnson. Rick, of course, somewhat of a legend in the world of
- 45:42broadcasting. He crossed over, as Morgan Robertson said, he crossed over to
- 45:45the dark side. He's not doing radio. He's doing television now with our
- 45:49good friends over WWK. But Rick Johnson is going to return to the airwaves
- 45:52radio airwaves tomorrow to co host this show. We have a new member of
- 45:59the House of Delegates, the governor yesterday announcing that former delegate and media scumbag
- 46:04Jeff Campbell will be the new delegate for the forty six district out of Greenboro
- 46:07County. The former holder that see Mike Conacher stepped down with the governor appointed
- 46:13him to be the new Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security. I
- 46:16say media scumbag about Jeff Campbell because he's a very very good friend of mine,
- 46:21and he's part of this fake news media that we're all a part of
- 46:23here, as some candidates for governor have alluded to. He's a radio guy
- 46:30down in Greenbrook County. Also an educators, also a teacher, and he
- 46:34has been closely associated with sports down in Greenboro County and also part of the
- 46:38WVU sports broadcast. As what SoC the grand plan of us, all of
- 46:45us here in the world of fake news. Eventually we just take over state
- 46:50government. See I mentioned a couple of days ago that the general manager of
- 46:54this company, the Charleston branch of WVRC Media, Joe Parson, is going
- 46:59to be running for house, replacing Steve Westfall in Jackson County who was not
- 47:02going to seek reelection. Said he's gonna run for Jackson County Commission. So
- 47:07we have Jeff Campbell in and we get Joe Parsons in, and slowly our
- 47:12plan is coming together that the media actually controls state government. As they said,
- 47:19it is a big diabolical plan of all of us fake newspeople to come
- 47:22in here. And I'm gonna next announce my intentions for twenty twenty four.
- 47:29Of course, I'm kidding about all this at least, well at least about
- 47:31the media takeover in my involvement. But congratulations to my old friend media scum
- 47:37back Jeff Campbell, who we all referred to in the business as Soup.
- 47:42Great guy served in the House of Delegates before, and he has been appointed
- 47:45to that position. So congratulations to Soup Campbell. Somewhat bizarre story yesterday happened
- 47:54around this time Assistantville High School. Jared Lewis story posted wv metro News dot
- 47:59com. Cana County Sheriff's Department has a fifteen year old kid in custody for
- 48:02trespassing at Sistonville High School. Deputy's called to the school around this time yesterday
- 48:08morning for a call of a suspicious person at the school of the school went
- 48:13on lockdown. Now the kid had been had been a student Assistantville, but
- 48:17was expelled and was now attending this Chandler Academy school. Deputies at the school
- 48:23in a matter of minutes looking for the kid, who was reported by students
- 48:29and staff to be in a restroom or a classroom at the school. No
- 48:34students were harmed, no weapons were found, just kind of apparently just showed
- 48:37up as his old school and so again. Jerry Lewis has got the story
- 48:42posted at wv Metronews dot com. I talked about Ribfest earlier and so many
- 48:47other things going on to the Canal Valley this weekend. I got a note
- 48:51from my friend David Fletcher, who's the mayor of Bell about their cruise in
- 48:54and car show which is happening Friday and Saturday. Cruise in tomorrow night from
- 48:59four tool nine. This is at eleven hundred East DuPont Avenue in Bell.
- 49:04The car shows Saturday morning starting at nine am. All these vehicles have to
- 49:07be registered, I understand, Dave tells me by noon, and they got
- 49:12a fifty fifty going on. They got music. Also, the Dunbar Fall
- 49:15Festival is weekend. So certainly if you ain't got nothing to do, that's
- 49:20on you, because there are a lot of activities that are going to be
- 49:23going on in the Canal Valley this past weekend. And in the middle of
- 49:28this there's a ball game in Morgantown. Two text us with Judge Duke Bloom
- 49:32retirement, who will now take over the case with former Chapmanville police officer Dudley
- 49:36in the case of the missing canine officer Chase. Yeah, I'm assuming again
- 49:42you shouldn't assume, but I am presuming Stephanie Abraham will now take that case.
- 49:45I guess that's the way that works. Again. Not an attorney don't
- 49:47even play one on TV. Wasn't even allowed to watch People's Court, so
- 49:52I'm not exactly sure. I'll try to get an answer to you that all
- 49:54right. My thanks to Stephanie Abraham for being here, and also Aaron and
- 49:58Morgan and folks from rib Fest gets underway today. Go down and have lunch
- 50:01on the boulevard head at Riverfront Park for rib Fest and runs through this weekend.
- 50:06Coming up. As I said tomorrow on the show, guest host,
- 50:07radio legend turned TV executive Rick Johnson's going to be here Hannah Gardner from the
- 50:12Canal Charleston, Maine Association with our dot me please pet of the week,
- 50:15final weekend for the Dirty Birds eating Douglas here. Talk about that. Plus
- 50:17we've got some things related to the Mothman Festival to talk about tomorrow as well.
- 50:22Ryan Nicholson, my producer, Ryan, thank you so much. Enjoy
