- 0:00We always have a blast chatting with our guests about all sorts of
- 0:03different topics, but sometimes we go off the rails and dig deeper into
- 0:07their automotive and motorsports pasts.
- 0:09As a bonus, let's go behind the scenes with this pit stop mini sode
- 0:13for some extra content that didn't quite fit in the main episode.
- 0:17Sit back, enjoy, and remember to like, subscribe, and
- 0:20support Brake Fix on Patreon.
- 0:25So, two quick things.
- 0:26One, the five car deal.
- 0:27I had more than five cars by the time I was out of high school.
- 0:30Well, we already covered that in a whole nother episode.
- 0:32We're all different, I think, is the goal of that.
- 0:34It's the average person, not us people.
- 0:36Yeah, the average person over their lifetime has more than five cars.
- 0:39Yeah, I have more than five cars now.
- 0:41Yeah, well, don't even get me started.
- 0:43Other than that I noticed numerous times tonight that the
- 0:45Toyota FJ Cruiser was mentioned.
- 0:47I'm curious, am I the only person that when they see the one that's
- 0:50yellow with the white top on it thinks really, really small bus?
- 0:54No, I can see that.
- 0:55They came in another color but blue?
- 0:56Oh yeah, they came in a bunch of colors.
- 0:58I've never seen them other than blue.
- 0:59I've seen the yellow, I've seen the blue, I've seen there's a green one too.
- 1:03I like the red one.
- 1:04Yeah.
- 1:04They had a bright red, it looked really good in bright red.
- 1:07They're good looking cars, actually.
- 1:08They're pretty sharp, I think.
- 1:09About a year ago, I saw one that was yellow and it had a tire cover
- 1:13over a spare tire on the back.
- 1:14It had a picture of Big Bird and it said Big Bird Short Bus.
- 1:17Nice.
- 1:19That's awesome.
- 1:19Those are harder to get into the back seat than the Elements are by a long shot.
- 1:23Oh, I bet.
- 1:24Doesn't the element have kind of a little suicide door?
- 1:26Only on one side though.
- 1:27Only on the passenger side?
- 1:28Yeah.
- 1:28The RX 8 had that too.
- 1:30Well, better than the RX 8, but similar to the RX 8.
- 1:32Yeah.
- 1:32That's kind of like the Pacer.
- 1:33You'll remember the Pacer's right hand door was a little longer than
- 1:37the Pacer's left hand door for easier ingress and egress to the rear.
- 1:42That sounds like a weird commercial.
- 1:43Rob, you're, you're not one of the town car fan, are you?
- 1:47I don't mind.
- 1:48Like I take a Caprice all day and I'd love a nice, you know, a Donker, a low rider,
- 1:52I'm a big fan of all that kind of stuff.
- 1:53I grew up in a family of German cars and then my buddies would have Mustangs
- 1:58and Trans Ams and stuff, but they were all more sort of svelte than they
- 2:01were sort of the bigger body cars.
- 2:03Yeah.
- 2:04You know, my grandmother had a Dodge Aries.
- 2:07One of the, uh, old K car, which was literally the worst car I've ever
- 2:13driven in my life, and I've driven some doozies, and that thing, like,
- 2:16you're like, oh, I'm gonna take a left.
- 2:17It's like driving a snowmobile, like, maybe it'll go left,
- 2:19maybe it won't go left.
- 2:21We'll find out later and see what it does.
- 2:23You floor it, and while it's floored, you can get out, walk alongside, and
- 2:26catch up to it if you wanted to, like, It was a POS, and so that experience
- 2:30sort of made me, going bigger to the Caprices, the Caprice Classics,
- 2:33et cetera, were less of a thing.
- 2:34I mean, I, like every one of us, I'm sure, like, you know, a Taurus SHO
- 2:38came out, and I was like, huh, that sounds pretty spectacular, and the
- 2:40bigger GTOs or Holdens, whatever, like, I think those are awesome.
- 2:44Here's a little trivia thing I've learned.
- 2:46I've never verified it, but I've learned.
- 2:48The Crown Victoria.
- 2:49was the first police vehicle to implement steel shields in the
- 2:54driver and front passenger doors.
- 2:56Exactly what are they?
- 2:574.
- 2:570 bullet resistance.
- 2:59That was Ford that did that.
- 3:01Nobody else did it.
- 3:02You know, Chevy, Plymouth, they're all out there building their little police cars.
- 3:06All they are is a performance package with a sway bar and quick ratio steering.
- 3:09That's it.
- 3:10Ford is the only one who's actually really taken that a lot, lot further.
- 3:14They're amazing cars.
- 3:15They really are.
- 3:16I mean, you can still get like this couple of F one fifties and stuff in that price
- 3:19range and that world too, if you want to go big truck, but I feel like, and your
- 3:23kids are different, they get more space.
- 3:24Like around here, I do not want our two trips.
- 3:27The last two years have been over to Europe where they've gotten
- 3:29an idea of like how small roads get and how big cars should be.
- 3:32And so the idea of like larger, wider car is not something that.
- 3:36Sort of endears me to being a first time driver's car.
- 3:38I think we've already got the car.
- 3:40It's in the garage.
- 3:42Can't miss the opportunity to build the ultimate donk Caprice classic.
- 3:47You take that 10 grand, you put it in the rims, double dubs, baby.
- 3:51And there you go.
- 3:52You're off to the race.
- 3:53She's the coolest cat at school.
- 3:55I'm telling you, man, that's what you need to do.
- 3:58Dubs and spinners and lights got to be lights.
- 4:00Under carriage lights.
- 4:01Don't light the wheels, that's carriage.
- 4:03Just under carriage.
- 4:04100%.
- 4:05Dubs.
- 4:0524s!
- 4:06Yeah.
- 4:07Nobody, nobody uses dubs anymore.
- 4:08You gotta get 24s.
- 4:1024s on that thing.
- 4:12When you go to high school, you pull in, it's still, it's dark out in the morning
- 4:14all through the uh, the winter months.
- 4:16You need to have like, the lights so they know you're coming in, just on the wheels.
- 4:18Get the Spreewell spinners with the lights.
- 4:21Uh huh.
- 4:21Gotta do it.
- 4:22Guaranteed.
- 4:22I'm telling you man, yes.
- 4:24Spreewell spinners.
- 4:24This is every white girl's first car dream, a hundred percent.
- 4:28Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:30Underglow lights is a big thing with young kids in the local area lately, so.
- 4:33It comes around.
- 4:34So when I was, when I first had my first car, my buddy down the street had a 25th
- 4:38anniversary edition Trans Am with full neon underneath it so it looked like it
- 4:41floated with the 18 inch subs in the back.
- 4:43We had four of them in there, I think, just basically
- 4:45bounced its way down the road.
- 4:47Had to have the windows open or looking for the hatch window out.
- 4:49Yup.
- 4:50Yup.
- 4:50Exactly.
- 4:51What's that car group?
- 4:52Is it in Houston or whatever down there by town where they got those things?
- 4:55They stick out like they're speed.
- 4:58Not a boat of Sierra spikes.
- 4:59Real huge down there in Texas.
- 5:01They tried making them illegal.
- 5:02Yeah.
- 5:02They also have the wire wheels that stick way, way out.
- 5:05They've got those things.
- 5:06Yeah.
- 5:07Actually, I'll tell you a little silly story.
- 5:09Oh boy.
- 5:10I know Eric, just pull my leash when you need to, but I love low riders.
- 5:14I really do.
- 5:15If for no other reason, paint, paint that goes into some of these low
- 5:20riders is just absolutely mind blowing.
- 5:23Hand applied a lot of the detail.
- 5:26I'll hand pinstripe all that stuff.
- 5:27You watch an artist do that, it's spectacular.
- 5:29It's like, holy crap, the skill.
- 5:31Oh yeah, what's funny is for me, this is kind of weird, Eric already knows my
- 5:35obsession with, and I don't know if you guys know this guy, Bhagwan, the Rolls
- 5:39Royce guru, have you ever heard of him?
- 5:41So Bhagwan, the great big guru up in Oregon, he had 93, I
- 5:46think it was, Rolls Royces.
- 5:48And not all of them, but a good number of them were custom painted to the nines.
- 5:52It was just incredible.
- 5:53I had the chance to talk to painter.
- 5:56His name is Peter.
- 5:57His background was hot rods and speedboats.
- 6:01Well, if you know speedboats of the seventies, they look like
- 6:03bowling balls with designs.
- 6:05I mean, they were incredible.
- 6:06So that was his background.
- 6:07Bhagwan.
- 6:09And he started showing Bhagwan what else could be done.
- 6:12Because Bhagwan just said, painted a different color.
- 6:15I don't want them black.
- 6:16I don't want them silver.
- 6:16I just want them to look heavenly.
- 6:18Not heavenly, that wasn't his word.
- 6:20But he wanted them to look surreal.
- 6:22So a few of them were painted solid colors.
- 6:24And then he started showing the Bhagwan what can be done.
- 6:28And that's where the really, really cool Rolls Royces came from.
- 6:32Anyway, I got to attend the auction where those cars were sold.
- 6:35When Bhagwan was Kicked out of the country and everything was seized as a
- 6:39car guy from birth, those Rolls Royces.
- 6:42I mean, they did everything to me emotionally.
- 6:44One side of me was saying, what sacrilege son of a gun would
- 6:48paint a Rolls Royce like this?
- 6:50Who would do this?
- 6:52But then another side of me, more of the hot rod DNA from my dad was
- 6:55saying, these things are awesome.
- 6:58This is so cool.
- 6:59And then where I was sold stupid little.
- 7:02However old I was, I don't know, 10 years old, nine years old.
- 7:05Cars are all lined up at this auction site.
- 7:08Bright sun, Newport beach, incredible day.
- 7:11I still remember very vividly.
- 7:12I remember taking my hand, not knowing it was really against the rules.
- 7:16And just running it across the hood.
- 7:19Two things struck me.
- 7:20One, there were no hitches.
- 7:22You weren't feeling where one coat of paint met the other coat of paint.
- 7:26You weren't feeling it was all one sheet of glass.
- 7:29And number two, despite sitting in the hot beach sun, they weren't that hot.
- 7:35There was a coolness to them.
- 7:36Very, very interesting.
- 7:37Well, 40 years later, getting to talk to Peter, the guy who painted
- 7:41them, I told him about that.
- 7:43He said it had to do with the thickness, the paint.
- 7:46He said the paint on those Rolls Royces, if you were to pull those off,
- 7:49you're probably looking at about 40 pounds worth of paint all by itself.
- 7:52It was incredible.
- 7:53Actually, maybe that wasn't Peter who said that.
- 7:55Maybe that was somebody else.
- 7:56But anyway, that I guess helped absorb the, okay, Eric, I'll shut up anyway.
- 8:01So yeah, custom paints, all this stuff, low riders going to William's
- 8:07point of those wire wheels.
- 8:09Okay.
- 8:09I'll shut up.
- 8:09I know, Eric, you can thank me later for not continuing.
- 8:13Yeah.
- 8:13So refresh me on it.
- 8:14Cause I got a little bit sidetracked.
- 8:16Was your choice of getting her, like having her get into the truck first?
- 8:19Was that.
- 8:20Like, in an automatic, was that based on how you started driving,
- 8:23or was it something different?
- 8:25That's okay.
- 8:25So, other than the whole being bullied around type thing, this is something
- 8:29I learned with my daughter, especially since she started out driving the truck,
- 8:32is the fact that her learning to drive something big, I thought it would be
- 8:36easier for her to go somewhere small.
- 8:38But for her like going to something small kind of figure out because like the whole
- 8:40judgment of everything was different.
- 8:42It's good in the fact that she can judge because she has so much more space on
- 8:45each side and behind her in front of her in the car compared to the truck.
- 8:48But I hate to imagine the reverse of her if she was started out in
- 8:51the car and then went to the truck.
- 8:53Of what you may have possibly hit.
- 8:54So that is one good thing with a new driver.
- 8:56If you start them out in something bigger, then if they go down to
- 8:59something smaller, then I think they're going to have a better awareness
- 9:01of their surroundings and size.
- 9:03If you can learn to parallel park one of those trucks and navigate through parking
- 9:06lots, like then when you get something smaller, it's easy, but vice versa is
- 9:09where you see people get into all those little fender benders for no reason.
- 9:13I mean, that's actually a similar to like my thought of let's
- 9:15get a manual and not automatic.
- 9:17Cause you can't go the other way.
- 9:18It doesn't work.
- 9:19But I think you're right.
- 9:19Going big to small is easier than small to big.
- 9:21Same way.
- 9:22Well, look at how many drivers are out there who went from small to big.
- 9:25You know, how many drivers out there started out in Honda Prelude, then they
- 9:29got married, then they had a family.
- 9:31Bam.
- 9:32Now they've got an Escalade.
- 9:33It's mind boggling to go from one to the other.
- 9:37Now, was there a car in between that was maybe a midsize that kind
- 9:40of trained you up to the Escalade?
- 9:41I don't know.
- 9:42But I think there's a lot of drivers out there who are driving
- 9:44big vehicles, but they were.
- 9:46Brained on, taught on a little car.
- 9:49And, and I, I see that a lot to a degree.
- 9:51I disagree.
- 9:52Like I've seen my wife go from a Honda odyssey to a full size frame on SUV.
- 9:58And she definitely drives differently as a result of that.
- 10:01She's not going to listen to this podcast.
- 10:03So I don't have to worry about any fallout from these comments.
- 10:05And she has kind of classic little person syndrome, maybe.
- 10:10And so, you know, gets in a giant SUV, drives differently.
- 10:13Yeah.
- 10:14I mean, I think the number one thing I keep going to these cars get bullied.
- 10:17Let's face it.
- 10:18It's not the cars.
- 10:20Bullying the cars.
- 10:21It's the drivers.
- 10:22Yeah, and that's one thing I've always tried to impress upon
- 10:25Caitlin is I mean, she's seen it even the flex once in a while.
- 10:28You get a big enough F 350 or big enough Silverado or Ram and I'm just
- 10:33not going fast enough in the fast lane.
- 10:35You know, 90 is just not fast enough.
- 10:37So you have a choice if you can pull to the right.
- 10:41And that's one thing Texans take very seriously is get out of the fast lane.
- 10:45They take it real seriously out here.
- 10:47So yeah, move to the right.
- 10:49Get out of the fast lane.
- 10:50Give this person road.
- 10:52If you can't, there's another way to do it, which is back off throttle.
- 10:56Force the guy behind you.
- 10:59You follow your rules because you're in the lead.
- 11:01They don't pay for your insurance.
- 11:03They don't pay for your car repairs.
- 11:05They don't pay for your hospital bills, back them off.
- 11:08We've done it in the Honda.
- 11:09I've done it in the Fiat.
- 11:10I think my greatest achievement in doing this was when I first got it.
- 11:15Convertible top window was completely round out.
- 11:18You could not see through that thing and there was no right hand side view mirror.
- 11:22So the trick I learned was if I need to make that lane change,
- 11:27how do I know when it's safe?
- 11:28Well, the thing was, I found the car that was ahead of me and pass it.
- 11:33Now I know there's nothing behind me except that guy and
- 11:37I should be able to move over.
- 11:39So use your signals, slowly start easing over.
- 11:42What he didn't tell you is it was at 86, 000 RPM in second gear, trying to
- 11:47get that Fiat to move, but that's okay.
- 11:49Nothing ever happens fast in a Fiat, really nothing.
- 11:52But if you can get past that car fast enough to where you see it in your left
- 11:58hand rear view mirror, now you can move over, but in that time, Did somebody
- 12:03sneak up on their right and come in?
- 12:05You see what I'm saying?
- 12:06So you've always got to be aware of that.
- 12:08That's why I always made that lane change really slow.
- 12:11I got to tell you, I was so proud of myself for figuring that out.
- 12:14That was one of those moments where, wow, they did something cool.
- 12:18And as long as you're in control of that, as long as you maintain
- 12:21your mentality, you're going to tick that guy off behind you.
- 12:25But that's fine.
- 12:27I don't care about them.
- 12:27I care about me.
- 12:28I care about not getting into a wreck.
- 12:30So that's one thing I've been trying to teach Caitlin from the beginning.
- 12:33So whether she ends up with a Fiat or she ends up with an Element or she ends
- 12:38up with, you know, an F 350, whatever, she has that mentality of, you know
- 12:42what, you're bullying me and I can't do anything to help you right now.
- 12:45So I'm going to back off.
- 12:46I'm going to force you a little bit to cool down.
- 12:49I do think of that as, like, as a legitimate concern.
- 12:52Honda Elements not gonna do that, but maybe one of the other cars does.
- 12:56I don't know.
- 12:56And I don't know if any of this rambling makes sense.
- 12:58I can see you guys starting to snore non stop.
- 13:01All that being said, Dan, you want to add to it?
- 13:04Go ahead.
- 13:04Real quick thing Don was talking about is driving that
- 13:07truck that time he floored it.
- 13:08We mentioned earlier with cars getting out on the highway and stuff.
- 13:10My daughter was, when she did finally start driving, she was so set on not
- 13:14taking the highway unless I was with her, and I didn't know this until afterwards.
- 13:17Everywhere she went, when she put in the GPS, she had a void highway.
- 13:20So everywhere she was going, I was wondering why it was taking
- 13:22her so long to get places.
- 13:23And then one day, I was driving her down to Gaithersburg to Children's
- 13:27Hospital for an appointment.
- 13:29I would tell her, I was like, throw the address in your phone and we're going.
- 13:32And she's like, Dad, it's going to take us like two and a half hours to get there.
- 13:34And I was like, it should only take us 45.
- 13:36I was like, why is it's then I realized she had it set to avoid highway and it
- 13:40had a zigzagging all the way down through Maryland to get there and I'm like, it
- 13:43should not take that long, but it's one of those things where hopefully your
- 13:46daughter will encounter something that freaks her out like it did my daughter
- 13:50and it'll be something where you just taught you to respect the vehicle.
- 13:53And you eased into it.
- 13:54Believe me, for a long time, I was the king of no freeways.
- 13:57I didn't want to go on the freeways.
- 13:58I wanted to do surface.
- 13:59It served a purpose, which was I was fantastic at getting around
- 14:03town without the freeways.
- 14:04So in LA, freeways jam up real easy and real, you know, you sit there.
- 14:09So in a way, my 16, 17 year old self who didn't like going on
- 14:13freeways, it worked out really well because I learned how to get around
- 14:16Southern California without them.
- 14:18But I don't think, you know, an element, I don't think she'll have
- 14:21that floor in it But it's the issue of some other idiot driver out there.
- 14:26And sadly, as a society, our driver abilities went
- 14:30downhill in the past decade.
- 14:32Horribly, in my opinion.
- 14:33Having just driven in Ireland for a bunch of days with my kids.
- 14:37Last year, I drove in Scotland as well.
- 14:38Do your point, the quality of driving over there, you're on these roads
- 14:41that are like one lane roads here and they're two full size sedans
- 14:45and they don't slow down at all.
- 14:46I mean, they're doing 60, 70 miles an hour and they're just like,
- 14:48yeah, we just trust that, you know, the exact width of your car.
- 14:51Put it right up where your mirror is just touching the grass.
- 14:53It's over here that the height, you know, things, and I'll do the same.
- 14:56And right by, and it's like the level of pure trust in your own ability and
- 15:02the person of your approachings ability at all times, I was amazed by, and
- 15:06my kids were noticing it too, like.
- 15:08Because I'll yell in D.
- 15:09C.
- 15:09when it's obvious, like, two cars can pass and I'll watch somebody stop,
- 15:12and I'm like, Why are you an idiot?
- 15:14Like, there's plenty of room for two cars.
- 15:15My car's twice as wide as yours, because I'm driving my wife's Ascent.
- 15:18There's more than enough room for your little car to get by here next to mine.
- 15:21Like, why can't you figure this out?
- 15:23And so my kids have heard me say that, and they see the driving
- 15:25in Europe, and they're like, We first got back, and they're just
- 15:27like, Dad, this road is so wide!
- 15:30To your point, it's that realization of like, there's so many idiots out
- 15:33there, but it's an American thing.
- 15:35You go over and about over to Europe and it's not that way.
- 15:37Right.
- 15:37I mean, those, those folks have that sort of understanding of knowing
- 15:40your own widths of cars and such.
- 15:42And it's funny you bring that up.
- 15:43Cause coming from LA, not that the roads are comparable to Ireland or
- 15:47England or any of that stuff, but they are smaller than here in Texas.
- 15:52Even the lanes on the freeway are wider here in Texas than they
- 15:56are back in Southern California or just California in general.
- 15:59And it is amazing to watch somebody in a little Nissan Sentra need the entire
- 16:04road to make a right hand turn off of one road onto the other and you're coming
- 16:08the opposite direction, they're coming around that corner and you're like, which
- 16:11road do you need for that stupid car?
- 16:13I mean, I hate to be the bully here, but I'll tell you when I start seeing
- 16:17that when they're on my side of the road, I do what your Irish friends do.
- 16:20I snuzzle right up next to him.
- 16:22I got to tell you, when you see the eyes of the driver of a
- 16:25Sentra coming head on with a flex.
- 16:28No, I'm not an F 350, but I'm still scary compared to that Sentra.
- 16:32But you're right.
- 16:32And it goes back to what I've been saying, but it's a losing battle.
- 16:36I'm sure.
- 16:37But try to train the drivers around you.
- 16:39Try to get them to learn a little bit of patience.
- 16:41Try to get them to rein in that right hand turn.
- 16:44You don't need the whole road to come around the right hand turn.
- 16:47And if you do slow down, you're probably going too fast.
- 16:50And that's why you need all that space.
- 16:52True story here.
- 16:53And it was actually with the Honda, not the flex, which may have been a good
- 16:56thing 'cause it's a little more athletic.
- 16:58Same right hand turn.
- 16:59I'm thinking of Guy came so far around, I went to the left, I
- 17:03went on his side of the road.
- 17:04'cause he had so much of my road, there was nowhere for me to go.
- 17:08So it was either smack him almost perfectly head on or take over his side
- 17:12of the road 'cause he is taken over mine.
- 17:14And this is what I'm talking about with these people down here.
- 17:17They are just out of their mind.
- 17:19They really are.
- 17:19And maybe, you know, a lot of people have brought this up to me.
- 17:22Maybe COVID had a lot to do with this.
- 17:24You know, we had our lockdown, and for some reason we come
- 17:27out, now we're all impatient.
- 17:28Now we're all in a hurry.
- 17:30Why that is what happened psychologically to some of us, I don't know.
- 17:33I really don't.
- 17:34Maybe that did play a part in how some of us are driving.
- 17:38I don't know.
- 17:38But I see your point, though.
- 17:40I do.
- 17:40And you're right.
- 17:41I don't think that Honda's gonna terrify her.
- 17:43You know, it's funny being a car guy, I'm sure all of you probably experienced this
- 17:49once in a while, sometimes you feel kind of alone, you know, that you're the only
- 17:53one in the family, or you're the only one in the house who really likes these cars.
- 17:57And maybe you start to question yourself, what am I doing?
- 18:00Why do I have these cars?
- 18:01This is insane.
- 18:02Nobody else likes them.
- 18:03Nobody else blah, blah, blah.
- 18:05My wife is very supportive of them.
- 18:07She doesn't care for them.
- 18:08She doesn't like them.
- 18:09She's not a car gal.
- 18:10She has the accord, point A, point B, no problems, drama free, she loves it.
- 18:15But I don't understand her obsession with Disney.
- 18:17I like Disney too, but then she takes it to a whole other level.
- 18:20But we support each other in, in what we like.
- 18:22And I think Caitlin's of that genre where she, when I get out there and
- 18:26start polishing on the Caprice, it surprises the hell out of me still
- 18:30that I'll look up and there's Caitlin standing there with a rag saying, do
- 18:33you want me to buff while you polish?
- 18:35Sure, go for it, you know, then she wants to learn how to polish, then she
- 18:38wants to learn what are you doing with that blue tape, what are you doing, you
- 18:40know, and so you're slowly starting to show her these things, and I think just
- 18:44the fact that she likes that brings back around that element in that this
- 18:49is a car she can probably have fun with.
- 18:51Well, oddly enough, my little girl's I think my eldest is
- 18:55infatuated with my station wagon.
- 18:57She loves going out in that thing.
- 18:58She's big enough to sit in the front seat now, which we did that
- 19:00a couple of times on some B roads, and she thought it was fantastic.
- 19:03She loves the way it sounds.
- 19:04You can throw it in a corner and, you know, 200 horsepower, who cares, right?
- 19:08All day long.
- 19:08My little one, though, she told me even the other day, she's like, Dad, do you
- 19:12remember the yellow car that we had?
- 19:14Like, what happened to the yellow car?
- 19:15This is, by the way, for fans of the show, this is the Aztec that
- 19:18we were fostering for a year.
- 19:20Because I didn't own it, I just want to be very clear that I didn't own it.
- 19:22Yes, you did.
- 19:23Don't deny it.
- 19:24I agree with Dan.
- 19:25You never signed the title.
- 19:26It wasn't mine.
- 19:26Doesn't matter.
- 19:28You owned it.
- 19:28Possession is not an offensive law.
- 19:30It was a common law marriage.
- 19:31It was a common law marriage.
- 19:33Common law car.
- 19:34It was common law.
- 19:35You owned it.
- 19:35So anyway, but my little one really liked that car because she's like,
- 19:41Dad, and it had the seats in the back and the way it looked and she liked
- 19:44the yellow and She wants to cook meth.
- 19:47Well, I guess, but she was really attracted to it.
- 19:49So it's really funny to see them already establishing their
- 19:53preferences at 10 and seven.
- 19:55And that's pretty cool.
- 19:56Right.
- 19:56But how is that going to play out to Dan's point where his daughter was
- 20:00at 12 and 13, where she is today?
- 20:01You know, those kinds of things again, though, remember the yellow truck, Dan,
- 20:05you brought up the word gun shy, which is really interesting because my father.
- 20:10Was very, very, very big gun enthusiast.
- 20:12And one of the first guns I shot, I was five or six years old.
- 20:16Gave me such a kick in the shoulder.
- 20:18I literally cried.
- 20:19I was so scared of that gun.
- 20:20And to this day, I have so much respect for guns.
- 20:23You have no idea.
- 20:24Little 22 piece shooter.
- 20:26I have so much respect for that thing because of that little boy
- 20:29in me who learned on a 30 06.
- 20:31You're going to learn baptism by fire.
- 20:34So it is kind of funny you brought that up.
- 20:35I constantly think the same thing.
- 20:37First gun I fired.
- 20:38Damn near broke my little shoulder.
- 20:40First car that I drove on my own as my own with my license scared the hell out of me.
- 20:46And I had more respect for that thing through our life together until it was
- 20:50sold to my brother in law and my sister.
- 20:52So maybe the Z28 would have, you know, the same effect.
- 20:55I had a 94 Z28 when I was a teenager.
- 20:58I I've spent too much money on cars my entire life.
- 21:01I've always owned cars that had far more capability than I had talent.
- 21:06And it's never scared me enough.
- 21:08I'll just put it that way.
- 21:09Nice.
- 21:10All right, Don, 10 grand.
- 21:12What are you buying?
- 21:13Um, yeah, and there's so many great cards out there.
- 21:17I mean, I'll tell you one that I really like, I'm not going to go
- 21:21Chrysler TC by Maserati, although that is a wonderful option and you
- 21:25can get a wonderful car for 10, 000.
- 21:27That'll serve you very well.
- 21:28But that aside, you know, any of the, uh, The F 150s, you know, and I'm thinking
- 21:33of the short bed single cab, similar to the Chevys, similar to, and the Dodges
- 21:39for some reason are always a little bit more expensive, and I don't know why that
- 21:42is, because I don't think they're as well built as the Ford or the Chevy, like the
- 21:45yellow truck, you've got a lot of power.
- 21:47You're going to have a lot of fun.
- 21:49It's a car you can mess around with, bang up a little bit.
- 21:52You're not going to worry too much about it.
- 21:54It's a truck.
- 21:54It can take it.
- 21:55It's a truck.
- 21:56You can abuse it if you're that mindset and yeah, you can move furniture when
- 22:01you need to move furniture, you know?
- 22:03So it's kind of hard to go wrong with a truck, but there's so many options
- 22:07out there, but honestly, Four grand.
- 22:09Yeah.
- 22:09That's a lot of money to spend on a water pump.
- 22:12And I, I have a feeling just, I'm a member of a, I don't know, he
- 22:15called him flex group on Facebook.
- 22:17Great group of people.
- 22:18Most of them.
- 22:19Aren't you president?
- 22:21Yeah, that's it.
- 22:22I know.
- 22:22Right.
- 22:22Everybody thinks I'm the president of the Aztec club now.
- 22:2551 percent 51%.
- 22:27Yeah.
- 22:27Well, here's the sick thing.
- 22:28I've had two flexes in my life.
- 22:30There's a guy up there who's had nine.
- 22:32I'm like, wow, you just blew my mind.
- 22:34But anyway, what I'm getting at is a lot of these guys do their own work.
- 22:37I mean, I've seen pictures.
- 22:39They got the whole front end off the car.
- 22:40They got the engine apart.
- 22:41They do.
- 22:42I'm thinking that is the biggest nightmare in the world to me to see.
- 22:45I can't.
- 22:45No, I don't want to see any of that stuff.
- 22:47And my second black car, which you can also surprisingly get for under
- 22:5110 grand is the Cadillac ATS two liter turbo, which was shared with the Camaro.
- 22:56Which comes in a manual.
- 22:58So, chew on that one for a while.
- 23:01Plenty of performance options, despite the 2 liter turbo Camaro
- 23:04not being that exciting, compared to let's say the EcoBoost Mustang.
- 23:07But there's a lot of play space with the Cadillac ATS, because there's
- 23:11a lot of things that can be swapped in for the ATS V, even though they
- 23:14don't have the same power plant.
- 23:15So, and it's a very good looking car.
- 23:18It's handsome, if you want something a little bit more
- 23:20understated than the Genesis Coupe.
- 23:21But both of those would be my choice, you know, as an enthusiast.
- 23:25All right.
- 23:26I'm just waiting for the outtakes where all I see is
- 23:27pictures of Eric going, Uh huh.
- 23:30Yeah.
- 23:31He did it three times in that sequence.
- 23:33It was really impressive each time.
- 23:34It was like a big, the middle one was definitely like a full on like, Oh, crap,
- 23:39I didn't get my It's pretty well done.
- 23:41No, it's okay, it's okay.
- 23:41I think Don with those small silences is just for that reaction.
- 23:44I think so too, it's so well done.
- 23:46I just need an outtake.
- 23:47Brad, I'll take care of that for us later.
- 23:48We'll get the outtakes of that.
- 23:49Uh huh.
- 23:50Now that we've gotten our pit stop out of the way, let's get back on track.
- 23:54Meow!
- 23:55And if you'd like to continue the conversation or expand on some

- 24:12Go ahead.
- 24:13I proofread the intro, not the outro.
- 24:15I like the break slash fix.
- 24:17Well, cause I thought I was reading the web address like I do in the drive thru.
- 24:22He's Ron Burgundy.
- 24:24Like, seriously.
- 24:27Rob, we can't hear you.
- 24:29Matt can't hear you now.
- 24:30You disappeared.
- 24:31We still can give you the tow rig.
- 24:33What should I buy it?
- 24:34Yeah, we got a lot of them still to do.
- 24:35Yeah.
- 24:36I think we should do a show dedicated all to the Chrysler TC.
- 24:39Nope, that's not gonna happen.
- 24:41That's it.
- 24:41Well, I wrote it down.
- 24:42It's at the very, very bottom of the list.
- 24:45Eric, I'm not sure I can talk anymore.
- 24:51I know how annoyed you get when I talk and I think I should just shut
- 24:54up and sit over here in the corner.
- 24:56My opinion doesn't matter.
- 24:57Thanks guys.
- 24:58Very cool.
