- 0:05Speaker 1: The Galaxy's most Unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:23Speaker 2: There is a way it's going on.
- 0:30Speaker 3: It's going going.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Welcome to track cast, everybody.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yes, welcome to track Cast. We are missing somebody, we
- 0:40Speaker 1: are Yes.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yes, Dan is on assignment this week.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yes, he's got a special mission that's classified.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yes, very classified. Yes, secrets just make it even scarier sounding.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Just everythiing we talk about it.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's it's a Section thirty one thing.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So that's right, right, Section thirty one and a half.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, only only we know about it, and Captain Cisco
- 1:08Speaker 1: has clearance, that special clearance.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So mhmm, yep, right, that's right. But how you doing, man,
- 1:16Speaker 2: I'm I'm a little tired, like I was telling you,
- 1:19Speaker 2: uh yeah, recording kind of power outage last night.
- 1:24Speaker 1: We got some crazy wind going on in the Midwest,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and yeah, about midnight power went out, and you know,
- 1:32Speaker 1: we got we got a lot of camping supplies, we
- 1:34Speaker 1: got power outage supplies, you know, so you know, we
- 1:36Speaker 1: got lights and stuff like that and things to charge bones.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But it's still annoying and the dog's freaking out because
- 1:43Speaker 1: the the smoke detectors are beeping and yeah, so it's
- 1:48Speaker 1: just a lot of rigormarole. And so we got power
- 1:51Speaker 1: back on about an hour and a half, two hours ago.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So yeah, people are saying they know the mission dan
- 1:57Speaker 2: is gone to rescue Chad from the basement.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Well, I can't really talk about it that much, but
- 2:04Speaker 1: I mean the power he got that much clearance.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say the power went out just
- 2:12Speaker 2: as the rescue mission might do.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Uh the basement. I'm just saying, computers a holding cell
- 2:21Speaker 1: number one.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Okay, wells do you have?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Well number one is the main one, So I've got one,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and I've already said too much. Oh we have we
- 2:37Speaker 1: have battery backups for the for the power for the
- 2:39Speaker 1: force field generators, and I'm not worried about that. Yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 1: we had the power came back on. We had you know,
- 2:47Speaker 1: they had to realign the the EPs conduits and they
- 2:52Speaker 1: had to they had to reinstall the phase inducers. So
- 2:55Speaker 1: but we're finally going, We're finally good. So yeah, I
- 2:59Speaker 1: was your weekend.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Oh she's better than that. I went over to my
- 3:06Speaker 2: sister's house last night and played board games with her
- 3:09Speaker 2: family and the kids and her husband and her and yeah, yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 2: I got the kids some of their favorite snacks and
- 3:17Speaker 2: they were all excited.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was a good time.
- 3:23Speaker 1: So what are we doing today? What's going on?
- 3:25Speaker 2: So I thought, with we've been talking a lot about Paramount, right,
- 3:31Speaker 2: so I figured, why not let's review the Kelvin Universe films, right, yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 2: for the next three episodes. So we're gonna start with
- 3:40Speaker 2: the first film, the two thousand and nine Star Trek. Yep,
- 3:43Speaker 2: that's the one. Yeah, yeah, so we'll be talking about that.
- 3:48Speaker 2: We're gonna give our thoughts, you know, it's been a while.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I also thought it was kind of interesting in now
- 3:54Speaker 2: with the perspective of what we've had with new New
- 3:56Speaker 2: Star Trek. Completly yeah, yeah, yeah, there's definitely some things
- 4:01Speaker 2: to take away, especially with it's a lot of the
- 4:05Speaker 2: same people behind the two thousand and nine Star Trek
- 4:08Speaker 2: and new current Star Trek. So yes, yes, it's kind
- 4:12Speaker 2: of interesting. So yep, yeah, Jesus, those daylight savings sucks.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I you know, I'm people ask me all the time.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Some people, you know, they're like, man, how does day
- 4:26Speaker 1: like saving time affect you? And I'm like, about six
- 4:29Speaker 1: hours after I get up that following Sunday, that Sunday,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I forget about it. Yeah, it doesn't really bother an
- 4:36Speaker 1: hour difference, I can't tell, right.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, in the same way, it doesn't really bother me
- 4:42Speaker 2: one way or the other. But we should we start
- 4:48Speaker 2: with the news. Yeah, let's get to it Star Trek News,
- 4:56Speaker 2: so our first news story, because you know, I did
- 4:59Speaker 2: mention para a mount, So we've got to play the
- 5:02Speaker 2: stinger that the circus continues. We have some more developments
- 5:12Speaker 2: now in the start in the Paramounts buyout case or
- 5:19Speaker 2: deal that's going on right now, and it is it
- 5:22Speaker 2: is getting to be quite the drawn out process and
- 5:25Speaker 2: will be even more drawn out because now there's a lawsuit.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Baby oh boy.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah. So what's been the hold up lately, apparently is
- 5:36Speaker 2: another competitive bid has come So sky Dance Media is
- 5:41Speaker 2: offering eight billion dollars to purchase Paramount, right, but this
- 5:46Speaker 2: other investment group called Project Rise and their partners have
- 5:52Speaker 2: given a bid of thirteen point five billion, thirteen and
- 5:57Speaker 2: a half is far more than eight and.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Thirteen. Yes, you're right, you're right.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, the scientists say it checks out.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It's much gooder money.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It's much gooder money. Yes, yes, And so now they're
- 6:15Speaker 2: fighting over does Project Rise really have the financing for this?
- 6:21Speaker 2: So that is what Skydance is a legend that it's
- 6:26Speaker 2: made up that they don't have the money really not
- 6:29Speaker 2: nearly as much as they say they do, and so
- 6:31Speaker 2: it's not a legitimate bid. And so now they're fighting
- 6:34Speaker 2: it in court. Oh how long will that take? I
- 6:38Speaker 2: don't know, Probably not really that long because it's just
- 6:41Speaker 2: figuring out the financing. But it's in court right now, which,
- 6:44Speaker 2: as you know, the legal system moves so fast.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I mean it's gonna be next year before we get
- 6:51Speaker 1: right right there could be anyways.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:55Speaker 2: So yeah, so that's where we're at with that, and
- 6:58Speaker 2: you know, we like to track what's going on with Paramount.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So there you go. More delays.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Okay, well you heard it here first, folks.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yes, more delays. Our next news story comes to us
- 7:11Speaker 2: from uh, what is this I film? Yeah, oh, slash
- 7:15Speaker 2: film dot com. And uh, you know, it's kind of funny.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I found this story and I thought it was interesting.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But basically Anson Mountain made Kevin fig cry. Kevin Fige
- 7:26Speaker 2: is who runs the mc U.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and so.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Basically what had happened was when Anson mount spoilers if
- 7:34Speaker 2: you haven't seen Doctor Strange and Multiverse Madness, but Anton
- 7:38Speaker 2: Mount is in that movie. He plays black Bolt, and
- 7:43Speaker 2: he had played black Bolt in a very badly received
- 7:48Speaker 2: in Human show. Yeah, yeah, that's why he played the character.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I forget that. Yeah, yeah, he was in because I
- 7:57Speaker 1: haven't seen.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It, right, right, this was before Strange New Worlds anyways,
- 8:03Speaker 2: So when they brought him back for Doctor Strange, he
- 8:07Speaker 2: got to meet with Kevin Fige. They talked a while
- 8:10Speaker 2: and he learned that Kevin Figi was a major treky
- 8:13Speaker 2: and at the time, you know, still Anson Mount is
- 8:17Speaker 2: the captain of the Enterprise, right, So in between their meetings,
- 8:23Speaker 2: Anson Mount went to the props department at Paramount and
- 8:27Speaker 2: he's like, hey, can we do something special for Kevin
- 8:29Speaker 2: Figy And so they made him like a plaque and
- 8:34Speaker 2: a patch and made him an honorary Lieutenant Commander of
- 8:39Speaker 2: the USS Enterprise. Yeah, and and kve Kevin Figi was
- 8:45Speaker 2: very touched by this. And it's framed up and it
- 8:48Speaker 2: looks really good apparently, and Kevin fig said that he
- 8:52Speaker 2: cried when he opened the gift.
- 8:54Speaker 3: He was so excited.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he, I mean, he's a major major treky. I
- 8:59Speaker 2: remember when when End Game came out, they talked about
- 9:02Speaker 2: how that was based off the series finale of TG. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 2: so that that was kind and yeah yeah yeah. Okay,
- 9:17Speaker 2: so there you go. You know, we're all nerdy here,
- 9:20Speaker 2: so when I know we like the Marvel films.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So absolutely, I'll watch every one of them.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and then are yeah, same, same, except I have
- 9:31Speaker 2: not seen uh, what's that one, Craven the Hunter.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I okay, well, yeah I haven't seen that one either.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So yeah, fair enough. And then our last news story
- 9:41Speaker 2: comes from from Star Trek dot com. And uh, I
- 9:44Speaker 2: know we kind of mentioned this last episode, but I
- 9:47Speaker 2: thought I would just bring it up for real for
- 9:50Speaker 2: you guys. Uh Nascell has opened up pre sales of
- 9:54Speaker 2: their upcoming Star Trek action figure line. So we did
- 9:57Speaker 2: that interview a while back with the c no Cell.
- 10:02Speaker 2: These are the uh one twelfth scale figures about like
- 10:07Speaker 2: six inches six to seven inches depending on the character.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But they are now for sale or the pre releases
- 10:14Speaker 2: or yeah, pre release sales are going right now. You
- 10:18Speaker 2: can go to the Cell shop Michelle's store dot com
- 10:22Speaker 2: and get them. They are running about like twenty nine dollars. Okay,
- 10:28Speaker 2: there's even a bundle where you can get all the
- 10:30Speaker 2: figures in one, you know, like the first Wave. Right, yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 2: but see if I go.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Maybe I'll snag one up so we can do a review.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so okay, cool, oh declaim. So here we are,
- 10:46Speaker 2: look at it in the cell store. That's kind of
- 10:48Speaker 2: them all put together. I like my two viks, this
- 10:50Speaker 2: chilling trying to live his best life man, right, But
- 10:55Speaker 2: we also got to look at the packaging. So there
- 10:57Speaker 2: you go. You can get the first Wave for two
- 10:59Speaker 2: hundred and twenty five. Each figure is about twenty nine dollars.
- 11:03Speaker 2: But I kind of like this packaging.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and packaging is kind of important.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, because some of us don't open them.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Right.
- 11:14Speaker 1: It's a display, you know. So yeah, you know how
- 11:17Speaker 1: you hang him on the wall or on the shelf
- 11:19Speaker 1: or whatever you know.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Oh high trick reviewer, hell reviewer. Yeah. Yeah. So and
- 11:29Speaker 2: as you can see, there's like a lot of accessories,
- 11:31Speaker 2: just like they said there would be, you know faces.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, comes with a flowering orchid and apparently two different faces.
- 11:40Speaker 2: That's right. The orchid is the one that that binded
- 11:43Speaker 2: him with a nelix and dubac.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks like it comes with he comes with
- 11:47Speaker 1: a phaser and a tricorder.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yep, and a little container. That blue thing is a
- 11:52Speaker 2: little container. Oh okay, yeah, but one of my favorite ones.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Let me see if I can find it here. Yeah. Uh.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Val Chris comes with the Genesis device.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Okay, So for those who don't know, Val Chris is
- 12:10Speaker 1: the female. She was the one that was subordinate to
- 12:15Speaker 1: Christopher h m hm Doc Brown's klingon character in Star Trek.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It's right, mm hmm. So she was the one that,
- 12:28Speaker 1: you know, not so nobly had to sacrifice herself because
- 12:31Speaker 1: she knew right. Yeah, but yeah, the Genesis device is cool.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And she's got a batlet.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I couldn't care less about her character.
- 12:42Speaker 2: But I know the accessors of this one is pretty cool.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And and she got a decent klingon boob window.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yeah a little bit. But the other great one is Jellico,
- 12:55Speaker 2: who comes with Livingston's little bull.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh Living's this bawl. Yeah, one more thing, get
- 13:04Speaker 1: that fish out of the ready room.
- 13:06Speaker 2: That's right, and it's empty. The fish is gone.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Do you know why he had that line?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Because they wanted to get rid of it.
- 13:14Speaker 1: For real, they wanted to get rid of it.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yep.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And it never came back after that. Yeah, I would
- 13:19Speaker 1: use that character as target practice with my Daisy Red Rider.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Oh really, I mean, is there any I don't like Jelico?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Nobody likes Jellico. I mean he, to be fair, he
- 13:33Speaker 1: was exactly what a starfleet officer would be in real life.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I mean, I've I've served with I've known a dozen
- 13:43Speaker 1: lieutenant colonels exactly like him, and he was exactly right
- 13:48Speaker 1: in just about everything he did. Stanley guy right, Right.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So I also liked that he comes with the Captain
- 13:56Speaker 2: of card Day drawings.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Oh you know, I think they're taking characters that, Okay,
- 14:05Speaker 1: we want to make a Jellico, and that's what they're saying. Okay,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but nobody's gonna want to buy Jellico. So what do
- 14:11Speaker 1: we put him with? What accessories can we give him?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:15Speaker 1: It'll make people want to buy Jellico? Like, right, I'll
- 14:18Speaker 1: buy it just for the limits of the empty Livingston
- 14:20Speaker 1: fish container.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, Chas, butause he's my favorite get out of here
- 14:25Speaker 2: chances biz. He's a great actor.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh, he is a great actor. I loved him
- 14:30Speaker 1: in RoboCop.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So yeah, so you can go to the cell store
- 14:34Speaker 2: dot com and they've got all sorts of stuff. The
- 14:36Speaker 2: way you un is pretty great too, So.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, what accessories all? He comes with it a catcher
- 14:43Speaker 1: cell why container?
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I think that's half a pizza.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I don't know what.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I think. You're right. I think that's half a pizza.
- 14:51Speaker 2: That's a I think it's like the hosparad or whatever.
- 14:54Speaker 1: That no if if that is pizza. That's a reference
- 14:59Speaker 1: to the episode where he decides to defect and tells
- 15:02Speaker 1: uh Odo all of the secrets. Oh okay, okay, and
- 15:05Speaker 1: then he sacrifices himself at the end of the episode
- 15:08Speaker 1: so that Odo will be safe.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Okay, but yeah, I remember that episode, but I don't
- 15:15Speaker 2: remember him having a pizza.
- 15:17Speaker 1: He samples like one of everything from the replicator he takes,
- 15:22Speaker 1: he takes the pepperoni, takes a bite of the pepperoni
- 15:25Speaker 1: and said that was filling, and Odo's like, well it
- 15:28Speaker 1: should be. You sampled everything from the.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Replicators, fair enough, all right, Well, the toys are for
- 15:36Speaker 2: sale or pre sale, so.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I might maybe I'll buy one and maybe we can
- 15:40Speaker 1: do a little review on the show.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that would be great. But yeah, so
- 15:46Speaker 2: that's what's going on. All right, any other news stories
- 15:50Speaker 2: that you want to bring up or yeah, okay, power
- 15:56Speaker 2: outage in the Midwest, right, fair enough? Yeah, all right,
- 16:01Speaker 2: well let's get to the main topic.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Fun will now comment.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I'm getting reports in that it was red Squad that
- 16:13Speaker 1: affected the power grid.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Oh no, yeah, we'll have before too.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll have more on that later.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yes, more on that later, news at eleven. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:24Speaker 2: but uh yeah, so our our our main topic. We
- 16:29Speaker 2: are reviewing two thousand and nine Star Trek what used
- 16:33Speaker 2: to be called New Trek before, right, yeah, and now
- 16:37Speaker 2: no longer New Trek the Kelvin Universe. When was the
- 16:41Speaker 2: last time you've seen this movie before we reviewed it.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It's been a couple of years. I've watched you know, clips,
- 16:52Speaker 1: you know, over the last couple of years of some
- 16:54Speaker 1: of my favorite scenes. I watched it again last night.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I watched the director's commentary. Okay, so yeah, so that
- 17:02Speaker 1: was interesting. The director's commentary is with I can only
- 17:08Speaker 1: pull it up here. Uh, the director J. J. Abrams
- 17:13Speaker 1: and producers Brian Burke and Damon h Lynn and Alex
- 17:20Speaker 1: Kirtzman and Roberto what how do he pronounce his last name? For?
- 17:25Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:25Speaker 1: Okay, so it was with the five of them. So
- 17:31Speaker 1: if you haven't seen the uh the commentary, I suggest
- 17:35Speaker 1: you check it out.
- 17:36Speaker 2: It was a lot of.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Cool insights of you know, behind the stuff. They talked
- 17:41Speaker 1: a lot about, you know, the They talked a lot
- 17:44Speaker 1: about Spot and Leonard d moy and just getting the
- 17:48Speaker 1: different cast members together. They talked about how some names
- 17:52Speaker 1: were like Calvin, where did Kelvin come from? That's J. J.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Abrams grandfather's name, right right.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I wish all these day spoilers if you have
- 18:01Speaker 2: not seen this movie, but if you're watching this show,
- 18:05Speaker 2: it's gonna say, yeah, it's the Internet.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Man.
- 18:09Speaker 2: People get mad for the dumbest reasons.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I get it.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So anyways, so the movie came out in
- 18:16Speaker 2: two thousand and nine. It was released by Paramount. Came
- 18:20Speaker 2: out April seventh, two thousand and nine. It had a
- 18:24Speaker 2: budget of one hundred and fifty million dollars and had
- 18:28Speaker 2: a box office of three hundred and eighty five million dollars.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So it made money, yes, it did. It was. It
- 18:39Speaker 2: was the first Star Trek film in a long time
- 18:41Speaker 2: at that point. With the complete reboot, it was. It
- 18:45Speaker 2: brought in that new Kelvin Universe as opposed to the
- 18:49Speaker 2: Prime Universe, which looking back, I think was a smart move. Yeah,
- 18:57Speaker 2: it basically rebooted it t os the original series. We
- 19:03Speaker 2: had a new Kirk, a new Spock, all new characters
- 19:06Speaker 2: for everybody. Yeah, Chris Pine was brought in as Kirk Uh,
- 19:14Speaker 2: Carl Urban for Bones, and Sarah Crequenteou for Spock. Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah, great cast Simon Pegg as Scottie. They they said
- 19:25Speaker 1: in the commentary that was the only person that they
- 19:28Speaker 1: considered for Scotty. Eric Banner as NERO an unrecognized almost
- 19:35Speaker 1: an unrecognizable Eric Banner. The department did a fantastic job.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I also wanted to talk a little bit about comparing
- 19:43Speaker 1: and contrasting the two Christopher Pikes that we've seen recently.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I wanted to do that too.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Also we had a i think his first film
- 19:57Speaker 2: role for Chris Sumsworth.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Yep. It was also Zachary Quinto's first feature film role
- 20:04Speaker 1: he had done. Yeah, he'd done some television. Most recently
- 20:08Speaker 1: he had done Heroes.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Okay, yes, I remember that, yep. So he was Silar
- 20:13Speaker 2: and Heroes.
- 20:13Speaker 1: He was Silent and Heroes Zoe uh.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Academy Awarding Actresses.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yes, yes, John John Cho as Sulu. Now John Cho
- 20:27Speaker 1: is a Korean American playing a Japanese American character, and
- 20:35Speaker 1: he felt, h he didn't feel like he should take
- 20:38Speaker 1: on that role because he felt it was a Japanese
- 20:40Speaker 1: American character. And it was actually the original Sulu himself
- 20:46Speaker 1: who convinced him, Oh yeah, you should. George de Kay
- 20:51Speaker 1: actually told him, yeah, you should pursue this because Sulu,
- 20:54Speaker 1: George K said, represents all of Asian Americans.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Oh cool.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so he was convinced. And then of course the
- 21:04Speaker 1: late Antony Yelchin as a check off who did played
- 21:07Speaker 1: the role. I just loved his character in.
- 21:10Speaker 2: This perfect plucky young Ye know what did they say?
- 21:16Speaker 2: He's a seventeen year old genius?
- 21:17Speaker 1: Yeah wait wait, waste the kid? How old are you seventeen? So?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Oh perfect, he's seventeen.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I love it a great bad accent.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he's like there's that one scene where he has
- 21:30Speaker 1: to do the ship wide announcement. He's trying to enter
- 21:32Speaker 1: his personal code here nine five week two authors not recognized,
- 21:39Speaker 1: authorization not recognized. That voice was done by the late
- 21:43Speaker 1: Majel Barrett, who recorded her lines from home two weeks
- 21:48Speaker 1: before she passed away.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, yeah, so that was her last Star Trek Audi.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Well, let me bring up the Rotten Tomato score because
- 22:03Speaker 2: I thought this was interesting because I remember at the
- 22:05Speaker 2: time people Trekys were not happy with it, you know.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Right, it was a very divisive movie.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they said it was not their Star Trek. But
- 22:16Speaker 2: the Rotten Tomato scores. Critics gave it a ninety four
- 22:19Speaker 2: percent and fans gave it a ninety one percent. So like,
- 22:23Speaker 2: people liked it.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I know people do this day who don't watch Star Trenk,
- 22:27Speaker 2: but like this movie.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I wonder if those scores have changed since it came
- 22:32Speaker 1: out in O nine, I would imagine, so I bet
- 22:36Speaker 1: the audience score has gone up. Yeah, and I think
- 22:40Speaker 1: see One of the things too, is that the Kelvin
- 22:44Speaker 1: it At first we thought that it was completely redoing
- 22:48Speaker 1: the timeline, and then they got some backlash, and then
- 22:51Speaker 1: we found out, well, it didn't really erase the previous timeline.
- 22:55Speaker 1: It diverged the timeline. So now you have the Kelvin
- 22:58Speaker 1: timeline and you have the the Prime Home line, and
- 23:02Speaker 1: and they've they've referenced each other in both timelines. You know,
- 23:07Speaker 1: we've we've seen evidence of the prime timeline, or at
- 23:10Speaker 1: least elements of what we've seen in the prime timeline
- 23:13Speaker 1: in the JJ films, you know, with with section thirty one,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and we've seen Enterprise era uh and Spock showed up
- 23:26Speaker 1: and what's.
- 23:28Speaker 2: That original recip original?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Yes, yes, the original recipe all all original nine flavors,
- 23:36Speaker 1: herbs and spaces.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Uh.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And then they've referenced they have referenced the the prime
- 23:42Speaker 1: or the what the offense in this in the Calvin timeline,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you know, with with Romulus being destroyed and things like
- 23:49Speaker 1: that in the car. So yeah, yeah, we else, we got.
- 23:56Speaker 1: We got a couple other notable actors and actresses. Ben
- 24:00Speaker 1: Cross as Sarah fantastic job, one of my favorite actresses,
- 24:06Speaker 1: Winona Ryder as Amanda, Spock's mother, Right, And I thought
- 24:14Speaker 1: there was a there was a deleted scene. There was
- 24:16Speaker 1: actually a scene involving Spock's birth that was deleted. That's
- 24:22Speaker 1: on the the DVD special features. But I understand the
- 24:29Speaker 1: way they did it because uh uh, Spock is older
- 24:33Speaker 1: than Kirk in in in Cannon, So the way that
- 24:37Speaker 1: they filmed it, in the way that they wanted to
- 24:39Speaker 1: sort of do it. They didn't want people to think
- 24:41Speaker 1: that Kirk was born first and then Spock, and but
- 24:44Speaker 1: I thought the way that they edited together was actually
- 24:46Speaker 1: really really well. Yeah, good Jennifer Morrison as h as
- 24:52Speaker 1: Kirk's mother, That's true, very brief, but I thought, very
- 24:57Speaker 1: good perform.
- 24:59Speaker 2: She did job.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Yep.
- 25:01Speaker 1: And yeah, you mentioned earlier Chris Hemsworth that scene at
- 25:06Speaker 1: the beginning of the movie. I remember, if I may,
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'd like to tell a real quick story about the
- 25:12Speaker 1: first Time film. So the film came out in spring
- 25:18Speaker 1: of two thousand and nine, and at the time, I
- 25:22Speaker 1: was overseas in Iraq, and I actually tried to get
- 25:25Speaker 1: my leave, my two weeks leave to coincide with the film,
- 25:28Speaker 1: and I missed it. So they played it. They played
- 25:34Speaker 1: the we got there was an advanced copy that was
- 25:36Speaker 1: sent to the MWR over there Morale Wellness of the
- 25:39Speaker 1: Recreation Center, and so we got a DVD copy of
- 25:44Speaker 1: the movie when it was still in theaters, and we
- 25:47Speaker 1: played it on this like you know, twenty five inch
- 25:51Speaker 1: thirty two inch TV at the MWR, and I just
- 25:54Speaker 1: remember it was like thirty of us gathered around this
- 25:57Speaker 1: TV with me in the sitting in the center. Because
- 26:00Speaker 1: everybody knew I was the biggest Star Trek fan, you know,
- 26:04Speaker 1: by far, and so everybody was like, yeah, we're gonna
- 26:06Speaker 1: go watch Scott watch this movie.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 26:10Speaker 1: So I got to watch it in Iraq while it
- 26:12Speaker 1: was still in theaters on TV, so that was really cool.
- 26:15Speaker 1: But the scene, I remember, the scene where George Kirk
- 26:21Speaker 1: sacrifices himself. Yeah, everything about that scene was I thought amazing.
- 26:29Speaker 1: You know, I don't think there was a dry eye
- 26:31Speaker 1: in the house.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a great scene.
- 26:33Speaker 1: The way they put that together with the music and
- 26:35Speaker 1: everything was just.
- 26:38Speaker 2: According to Wikipedia, Matt Damon was concerned for George Kirk.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, okay, that makes sense. Yeah, because I heard
- 26:51Speaker 1: a rumor. There was a rumor floating around a long
- 26:54Speaker 1: time ago, like back in the early two thousands of
- 26:57Speaker 1: Matt Damion playing Jim Kirk. And he actually called j.
- 27:04Speaker 1: J Abrams and said, is there any truth to this rumor?
- 27:08Speaker 1: And JJ Abrams told him, Uh, you're a little too
- 27:11Speaker 1: old for the.
- 27:13Speaker 2: What we're doing.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so.
- 27:17Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Would have made a great Kirk back in like two thousand.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but could you imagine him like showing up
- 27:23Speaker 2: as George Kirk at the beginning of that movie, all
- 27:25Speaker 2: a sudden, Matt Damon's.
- 27:26Speaker 1: There right right, yeah, and Chris Hemsworth like it can't
- 27:33Speaker 1: believe that that guy is the same guy that Clay Thor.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Right, he looks like a normal guy there right exactly.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Now he's just like a monster just right.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:44Speaker 2: But what's really weird is I remember at the time,
- 27:47Speaker 2: like when the movie came out and I saw it
- 27:48Speaker 2: in theaters, I remember looking at George Kirk and then thinking,
- 27:52Speaker 2: is that the new Kirk because to me he looks
- 27:56Speaker 2: so much like Chris Pine at the time.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, In fact, they mentioned that in the commentary
- 28:03Speaker 1: that they were kind of trying to do a little
- 28:06Speaker 1: bait and switch on you. They were trying to Yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 1: they're trying to trick you up a little bit. You know,
- 28:10Speaker 1: you're now You're now the captain, mister Kirk, is what
- 28:13Speaker 1: the captain said, And they kind of wanted to confuse
- 28:16Speaker 1: you a little bit. And okay, because they yeah, they
- 28:19Speaker 1: do in the in the movie they kind of look alike.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean I guess they were going for
- 28:25Speaker 2: that also, family resemblance, that kind of thing. But yeah,
- 28:30Speaker 2: at the time, like now they're completely different, Like I
- 28:33Speaker 2: can tell them apart.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 2: But yeah, but the fact that that Chris Hemsworth, you know,
- 28:40Speaker 2: was a no name actor, so I didn't really know
- 28:42Speaker 2: his face, you know, like yeah that yeah, So yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 2: I guess we should kind of go over the the
- 28:51Speaker 2: premise of the film. Basically, they're in the Prime universe.
- 28:59Speaker 2: They're is going to be a cataclysmic event where a
- 29:04Speaker 2: star will go supernova and destroy Romulus, and so to
- 29:09Speaker 2: try to save it, Spock comes up with this special
- 29:12Speaker 2: ship full of red matter, which, when never explain what
- 29:15Speaker 2: the red matter is, is somehow going to save that
- 29:20Speaker 2: star or stop the star from exploding, because it'll create
- 29:23Speaker 2: a singularity, a black hole and eat up the star
- 29:27Speaker 2: and that'll save Romulus. It doesn't work out, and Nero,
- 29:31Speaker 2: being a Romulan, gets really pissed and goes to chase
- 29:34Speaker 2: Spock and they go through that black hole and into
- 29:38Speaker 2: the Kelvin timeline, and so that's what starts our new timeline,
- 29:43Speaker 2: and from there Nero is just on a rampage and
- 29:48Speaker 2: so they got to stop them. It's interesting that they
- 29:52Speaker 2: take out two planets, Romulus and Vulcan. Vulcan in the
- 29:56Speaker 2: Kelvin timeline, Romulus in the Prime that was later played
- 29:59Speaker 2: on in Card season one and two. Mm hmm, yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 2: they talk about the destruction of Romulus. So that's interesting.
- 30:10Speaker 2: That Carried Over film was written by Kurtzman, Alex Kurtzman
- 30:15Speaker 2: and Roberto or Resi or I forget unpronounced it, but yeah,
- 30:21Speaker 2: they wrote the script. It's so different compared to like
- 30:26Speaker 2: Discovery or you can see a little bit of The
- 30:29Speaker 2: Stranger World's DNA in it a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 2: you get that vibe. But yeah, especially compared to Discovery,
- 30:37Speaker 2: it's it's vastly different.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely absolutely. A lot of people have said it's
- 30:43Speaker 1: Star Trek meets and I like an Apple store.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because of the enterprise. The enterprise looks very Apple
- 30:50Speaker 2: Store like. It's very clean, very bright. The uh the
- 30:58Speaker 2: enter or engineering looked like a factory, just a series
- 31:02Speaker 2: of tubes and.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It was a yeah, the one with the giant bats,
- 31:06Speaker 1: the giant silver vats that was actually filmed in a
- 31:08Speaker 1: Budweiser factory are full of beer. Nice.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that's funny, that's funny.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Uh.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I remember the first time I watched, I was like,
- 31:23Speaker 2: what are what the hell are all these tubes for.
- 31:27Speaker 1: ARCO?
- 31:28Speaker 2: I guess I guess it just got to go everywhere.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, the scene where they beam beam were Scotty and
- 31:35Speaker 1: Kirk beam ont of the ship the transport beam and
- 31:38Speaker 1: Scotty ends up in one of the tubes. It's like, well,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I hope that's just water. Yeah, yeah, because if that's
- 31:45Speaker 1: warped plasma coolan, then he'd be dead in one second.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, no kidding, no kidding, or very drunk. And
- 31:53Speaker 2: I like that they had like the escape valve near
- 31:56Speaker 2: the death machine as it was you have.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Near the blunder of Yeah, every starships a war plant
- 32:04Speaker 1: conduit blender.
- 32:07Speaker 3: It was the.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Injury look cheap. I didn't think so. I didn't think
- 32:10Speaker 2: that was.
- 32:10Speaker 1: More expensive engineer on the history of the plant.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yes, I remember when it came out, people were mad
- 32:19Speaker 2: about the the redesign of the Enterprise, that it looked
- 32:22Speaker 2: too bulky. Honestly, I think it looks great.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Well, there's another explanation for this. The Enterprise is much
- 32:32Speaker 1: much larger in in this universe than in the prime universe,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and there's an explanation for that starfleet because of what
- 32:41Speaker 1: happened to the Kelvin started designing larger, more powerful ships, right,
- 32:47Speaker 1: and so that's why this enterprise is larger than the
- 32:51Speaker 1: prime enterprise.
- 32:54Speaker 2: So there are a few plot holes throughout it. Throughout
- 32:58Speaker 2: the beer, just a few, Yeah, One big one is
- 33:03Speaker 2: the neuro attacks and then is just nowhere for twenty
- 33:08Speaker 2: five years and then pops back up. There were deleted
- 33:12Speaker 2: scenes that he was captured by the Klingons and and
- 33:15Speaker 2: broke out of prison. They kind of touched on that,
- 33:18Speaker 2: with Jura mentioning that she picked up some distress calls
- 33:22Speaker 2: from from uh Klingon sources. Yeah, but that's that's about it.
- 33:30Speaker 2: One thing I thought that was a plot hole that
- 33:31Speaker 2: I haven't seen anyone discuss though, was every time Neuroship
- 33:35Speaker 2: pops up, that that black hole the lightning s farm
- 33:39Speaker 2: in space also follows it, like that shows up and
- 33:42Speaker 2: then Neuroship comes out of it, right, Like, yeah.
- 33:47Speaker 1: That's only happened the first time when he.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Right right, But every time his ship pops up, that happens. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I never thought about that one.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Yeah. The other the one I too that that I
- 34:01Speaker 2: thought was a little bit weird is as Spock. So
- 34:05Speaker 2: later they meet uh uh Leonard nee moy Spock, right,
- 34:10Speaker 2: and he's he's telling, not telling, he's doing a mind
- 34:13Speaker 2: meld with Kirk. But they're telling the story. They're letting
- 34:16Speaker 2: you know why he's there, right, And one of the
- 34:19Speaker 2: things he mentioned is we created the fastest ship to
- 34:22Speaker 2: go and take care of the the the protostar, the
- 34:27Speaker 2: star blowing up, right. But then he says, but I
- 34:31Speaker 2: got there too late, so the fastest ship wasn't fast
- 34:34Speaker 2: enough apparently. Yeah, Yeah, that I thought was funny. And
- 34:38Speaker 2: then in that in that scene when he's preparing the
- 34:41Speaker 2: red matter, it's like he runs over, he goes like,
- 34:44Speaker 2: there's this giant red ball. They inject it with something
- 34:48Speaker 2: and pull out some of the red matter, and then
- 34:50Speaker 2: they put that into.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Some sort of hypodermic evil.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Right, but it's like, okay, you're in the fastest
- 34:58Speaker 2: ship ever. Why didn't you prep the red matter on
- 35:00Speaker 2: your way and just to have it locked and ready
- 35:04Speaker 2: to go?
- 35:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, is there a reason, like you can't break that
- 35:09Speaker 2: force until it's time? Like does that substance automatically start
- 35:12Speaker 2: to decay when it's out and so you need to
- 35:16Speaker 2: keep it maintained for as long as possible? Like I
- 35:18Speaker 2: don't know.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Yeah, the red matter thing was completely out of left field.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just a thing they made up, you know.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I don't know why they didn't go
- 35:28Speaker 1: with something that we understood, you know, antimatter or some
- 35:32Speaker 1: sort of you know, subspace antimatter sort of device that,
- 35:37Speaker 1: but yeah, that would have made sense to Star Trek fans,
- 35:42Speaker 1: right right.
- 35:43Speaker 2: They could have said, our top engineer, miles of Brian
- 35:45Speaker 2: created this thing, and absolutely.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm sorry, did you have anything else before?
- 35:57Speaker 3: Okay?
- 35:58Speaker 1: Uh, there is a ton if you want to go
- 36:01Speaker 1: into IMDb, there is a ton of trivia and nitpicks
- 36:05Speaker 1: for this movie. People love to bash this movie. People
- 36:10Speaker 1: love to give you know, different their different perspectives.
- 36:14Speaker 3: On this movie.
- 36:15Speaker 1: And there are a ton of trivia items. Just a
- 36:18Speaker 1: couple that I highlighted. The first time that Zachary Quinto
- 36:21Speaker 1: met Leonard Nimoy at Comic Con, Nimoy pulled them aside
- 36:25Speaker 1: and said, you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into. Yeah, everybody,
- 36:35Speaker 1: all the original casts seem to be very supportive of
- 36:38Speaker 1: the new cast. Even William Shatner sent Crispine letters and
- 36:41Speaker 1: you know.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, uh uh, Alex Kirtzman, JJ Abrams and
- 36:50Speaker 4: Roberto Orcie or yeah, all personally.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Called Leonardimoy and Leonard Nimoy, you know, basically had to
- 37:00Speaker 1: think about it. Do I want to do this role
- 37:02Speaker 1: again that I said goodbye to in Star Trek The
- 37:05Speaker 1: Undiscovered Country.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 1: He had not done a Star Trek movie since ninety one, right,
- 37:14Speaker 1: and and he had said goodbye to the character years. Yeah,
- 37:18Speaker 1: and he did. He did Star Trek The Next Generation.
- 37:22Speaker 1: He did Unification one and two. It's about the same
- 37:24Speaker 1: time as Yeah, but his wife convinced him. Yeah. They
- 37:29Speaker 1: they looked at the script and his wife convinced him, Yeah,
- 37:31Speaker 1: this is the story worthy of, you know, bringing back
- 37:34Speaker 1: Leonard Nimoy one last time or what we thought was
- 37:37Speaker 1: one last time. So yeah. Oh, Zachary Quinto too. Zachary
- 37:46Speaker 1: Quinto could not do the Vulcan salute with his right hand.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Oh really, at the end of the film, he had
- 37:52Speaker 1: to have his finger glued together in order to do
- 37:55Speaker 1: the Vulcan salute, like, yeah, you gotta see it's fingers
- 38:00Speaker 1: sort of like yeah, because when he you know, usually
- 38:03Speaker 1: we do the Balkan slute and you're done, you kind
- 38:05Speaker 1: of separate your fingers. When he when he's done, he
- 38:08Speaker 1: just kind of goes.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Like this, Yeah, can you do it.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I can do it with both hands.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I can do it. I can do it both hands. Yeah.
- 38:20Speaker 1: So where were we in the synopsis?
- 38:23Speaker 2: So basically what ends up happening is Nero captures u
- 38:33Speaker 2: Pine or Pike, and then it becomes that Spock is
- 38:41Speaker 2: the captain because he's the first officer, and Spock and
- 38:45Speaker 2: Kirk don't get along because they don't know each other.
- 38:48Speaker 2: And and from there, Kirk is marooned on a ice
- 38:52Speaker 2: planet where he meets Yeah.
- 38:53Speaker 1: They get in a fight and he's like, skip the
- 38:56Speaker 1: brig his ass off the ship.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want to deal with you.
- 39:01Speaker 1: See that Class L planet down there, Yeah, yeah, knock
- 39:05Speaker 1: his ass.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Well they specifically say it's a Class M planet,
- 39:11Speaker 2: which doesn't look Class M to me. It's very frozen over,
- 39:16Speaker 2: full of Cloverfield monsters.
- 39:19Speaker 1: But very yeah, Cloverfield monsters.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Full of Cloverfield monsters. But they they somehow, you know,
- 39:26Speaker 2: they they meet originals to Spock, and from there they
- 39:30Speaker 2: meet Scottie and Spot goes, oh, here's a because they
- 39:35Speaker 2: need to transport it back onto the Enterprise. But the
- 39:38Speaker 2: Enterprise is traveling at warp speed and it's getting further
- 39:42Speaker 2: away and it's not possible, you know, from from the
- 39:46Speaker 2: distance that they're at. But Spock's like, no, no, no,
- 39:49Speaker 2: you you created this formula that allows us to transport,
- 39:53Speaker 2: you know, while in in warp and basically shows him
- 40:00Speaker 2: this invention that he created in the other universe. But yeah, uh,
- 40:07Speaker 2: so they get on the Enterprise. From there, they have
- 40:11Speaker 2: to show that that Zachary Quinto's Spock is. Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 2: they have to show that Zachary Quinto is emotionally compromised,
- 40:21Speaker 2: which they end up doing. And then from there here
- 40:25Speaker 2: we'll just do that, okay, So they show that he's
- 40:31Speaker 2: emotionally compromised. Crickets take takes over the Enterprise as captain
- 40:35Speaker 2: because he had been made first officer from uh Pike,
- 40:40Speaker 2: And from there they decide to instead of regrouping with
- 40:44Speaker 2: the Starfleet Armada, they are going to straight on take
- 40:49Speaker 2: on Nero because Nero is threatening Earth. Nero had already
- 40:53Speaker 2: blown up Vulcan and he was on his way to
- 40:57Speaker 2: do the same thing to Earth.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Hm.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I thought it was a great finale.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Uh.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Kirk and And and Spock end up going on neuro
- 41:07Speaker 2: Ship and they attack it and it is a big
- 41:11Speaker 2: long fight with all these giant platforms. There is, yes,
- 41:17Speaker 2: there are. So I'm just getting to the finale. They're
- 41:20Speaker 2: they're jumping around on the ship, which clearly has no
- 41:23Speaker 2: ocean regulations.
- 41:25Speaker 1: No no, no.
- 41:26Speaker 2: No safety handles, no, no, no ladders, no, just platforms
- 41:33Speaker 2: just you could. Yeah. A lot of guns for a
- 41:41Speaker 2: mining vessel, which is interesting.
- 41:43Speaker 1: A lot of guns, yep.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of really angry miners.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Yeah. And I like how they you know, they don't
- 41:52Speaker 1: do this with the romulins that often, but romulins are
- 41:55Speaker 1: an offshoot of vulcans, and romulins are three times as
- 41:58Speaker 1: strong as humans. Yeah, they're able to man handle, uh kirk.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Yeah. I do like that every character had
- 42:10Speaker 2: their moment to shine like a whor with with figuring
- 42:14Speaker 2: out some of the the codes, and Sulu with his
- 42:20Speaker 2: fencing even though that sword was not a fencing sword.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, whatever.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Yeah, oh who ah. I you know, I was gonna say.
- 42:32Speaker 1: One of the things that they do on on the
- 42:35Speaker 1: Delta Flyers podcast is after they review an episode, they
- 42:38Speaker 1: talk about the winners and losers of the episode, you know,
- 42:42Speaker 1: and and I wanted to talk about the winners and
- 42:45Speaker 1: losers of of this episode, and I think the loser.
- 42:50Speaker 1: The biggest loser of this episode was then officer or
- 42:54Speaker 1: the communications officer aboard the Enterprise and Pike is like, uh,
- 42:59Speaker 1: I need you to you know, translate or whatever, blah
- 43:02Speaker 1: blah blah Romulin. He's like, I don't think I can
- 43:06Speaker 1: distinguish Romulin from Bulkan, and Pike's looks at Horas, how
- 43:10Speaker 1: about you ensign, how about you cadet ensign whatever, and
- 43:14Speaker 1: She's like, h yes, sir, all three dialects take over
- 43:18Speaker 1: for the lieutenant. Lieutenant dude, right, he's the biggest loser.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Aura is the biggest winner. Actually, the biggest winner in
- 43:29Speaker 1: this movie is Kirk, who went from a disgraced cadet
- 43:34Speaker 1: to captain of the Federation flagship in what three days?
- 43:39Speaker 2: Yeah, something like that.
- 43:41Speaker 1: That's the biggest plot point to be in the entire movie.
- 43:44Speaker 1: He went from a cadet to a quotified commissioned captain
- 43:50Speaker 1: in three days.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of insane.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Uh. Starfleet would have been all over that like, hey,
- 44:00Speaker 1: good job kid, congratulations, We're gonna fast track YouTube.
- 44:04Speaker 2: And said yeah, yeah, yeah, I I do like that.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Tyler Perry randomly shows up. We had Tyler Perry's star Trek.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Yeah, they made a big deal about talking about him
- 44:18Speaker 1: in the commentary. This was the first non Tyler Perry
- 44:23Speaker 1: thing he's ever been a part of, apparently, so I
- 44:27Speaker 1: don't even know how he got his start in Hollywood
- 44:29Speaker 1: if he's never been to anything else.
- 44:31Speaker 2: He's kind of made his own his own way. Okay, yeah,
- 44:37Speaker 2: but yeah, so so he was in there. I'm trying
- 44:40Speaker 2: to think what else was kind of funny to me? Oh,
- 44:42Speaker 2: we were gonna talk about the difference between the.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Pikes, Yes, yeah it is. Yeah, Uh I think I
- 44:53Speaker 1: love both of them. Do you bring something, you know
- 44:58Speaker 1: to the table? You know one one's gonna punch it,
- 45:01Speaker 1: one's gonna hit it, and uh I think uh I
- 45:07Speaker 1: think is more serious, Yes, I think. Uh. I think
- 45:12Speaker 1: Anson Mount is a little more whimsical. But they both
- 45:16Speaker 1: have kind of witty banter.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:20Speaker 1: They both seem extremely capable, extremely confident, smart officers. You know.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Bruce Greenwood is great. I thought he did a fantastic
- 45:30Speaker 1: job in this. I love the scene even when he's
- 45:33Speaker 1: being rescued and he's paralyzed, he sees the romulents come
- 45:36Speaker 1: from around the corner and he grabs Kirk's face. Both
- 45:40Speaker 1: of them that that was great. The scene the end
- 45:44Speaker 1: scene in the movie when uh, when Kirk gets commanded
- 45:47Speaker 1: the enterprise and he walks over to Bike and he says,
- 45:51Speaker 1: I relieve you, sir, and and and and and Pike says,
- 45:57Speaker 1: I am relieved. And it was just you could tell
- 46:00Speaker 1: that it was it was both Bruce be Wood and
- 46:03Speaker 1: Pike saying that, Yeah, just you know, and the facial
- 46:08Speaker 1: expressions and everything just did a fantastic job.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. I think so too. Bronson says, Uh,
- 46:15Speaker 2: Jeffrey Hunter was also was great.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Also, Yeah, yeah, yeah, there was another person that played
- 46:22Speaker 1: Jeffrey Hunter wasn't available for There was another episode that
- 46:26Speaker 1: Pike was in in the chair and the makeup. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 46:31Speaker 1: so that was another character.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Yeah, another actor, right, Yeah. I Comparatively, which which style
- 46:44Speaker 2: of Pike do you like better?
- 46:48Speaker 1: Boy?
- 46:48Speaker 2: That's a it's tough, right.
- 46:51Speaker 1: That's a tough one. I feel like I enjoy watching
- 46:59Speaker 1: Anson mounts Pike, but I but I also feel like
- 47:04Speaker 1: Bruce Greenwood's was more authentic.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's.
- 47:11Speaker 1: It's it was more fun to watch Anson Mount, but
- 47:13Speaker 1: Bruce Greenwood seems like he was more Pike ish.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of how I feel about it.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Okay, m yeah, both are fantastic actors, and both have
- 47:26Speaker 1: have brought you know, have done done good to thee Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Yeah. It makes me, uh, it makes me
- 47:39Speaker 2: sad that we don't get much more of that Pike.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, but uh but still it's a very
- 47:46Speaker 2: great characterization, very well done. I thought Nero was a
- 47:50Speaker 2: great villain, especially for an original villain. You know. Yeah,
- 47:57Speaker 2: Broughton's Anson Mount is his favorite bike. Okay, cool, Yeah,
- 48:02Speaker 2: it's not a bad answer.
- 48:03Speaker 1: They're both great, No, they are, They are both great.
- 48:06Speaker 1: How about Redos? Is there anything you would have redone
- 48:09Speaker 1: in the movie?
- 48:11Speaker 2: Yeah? I was thinking about this, so I think because
- 48:16Speaker 2: I'm so focused on screenwriting right now. Typically your main
- 48:20Speaker 2: character needs to have an arc, meaning how they change, right,
- 48:24Speaker 2: they go from uh, I'm afraid of swimming to now
- 48:28Speaker 2: I can swim anytime I want, right, right, some sort
- 48:31Speaker 2: of change, right. Kirk doesn't really go through one. He
- 48:35Speaker 2: is the same kind of snotty, you know, smart alecky
- 48:40Speaker 2: guy that he was in the beginning that he is
- 48:43Speaker 2: at the end. Right. He may have he may have
- 48:46Speaker 2: a little bit more confidence behind that. But but he
- 48:51Speaker 2: really doesn't change, you know.
- 48:53Speaker 1: So much so that spoiler alert for the next movie,
- 48:57Speaker 1: he gets demoted for that very reason. He's too cocky,
- 49:00Speaker 1: way over confident. So he doesn't change. Not only does
- 49:03Speaker 1: he not change in this movie, he doesn't change from
- 49:05Speaker 1: movie to.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Movie, right, Right, he doesn't really have an arc. The
- 49:10Speaker 2: one that you could argue that does have an arc,
- 49:12Speaker 2: and even then not really is Spock. Yeah, Spock more
- 49:19Speaker 2: or less has the arc. But and he's the only
- 49:23Speaker 2: one that does. Yeah, none of them have anything else
- 49:27Speaker 2: to change, right, That's the one thing. Otherwise, I think
- 49:32Speaker 2: it's a great movie, especially looking back at it now,
- 49:35Speaker 2: I think it's a lot of fun. Is it the
- 49:37Speaker 2: best Star Trek movie? I don't know. I put that
- 49:41Speaker 2: question out to a bunch of Star Trek groups, put
- 49:43Speaker 2: all the movies on a image and said which was
- 49:46Speaker 2: your favorite, including Section thirty one? Hands down? There was
- 49:50Speaker 2: no clear answer. It was either Rathacon, it was First Contact,
- 49:57Speaker 2: or The Voyage Home. Those were the three top one
- 50:00Speaker 2: I said.
- 50:01Speaker 1: In mind, I said, it's a toss up between Section
- 50:03Speaker 1: thirty one and The Final Frontier. Nice. My two favorite
- 50:08Speaker 1: Star Trek movies actually are the Undiscovered Country and first contact.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Okay, there you go, there you go. I think it
- 50:18Speaker 2: may be two thousand and nine Star Trek for me.
- 50:21Speaker 1: It's good. It's my favorite JJ.
- 50:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Yeah, they did talk about the other thing that they
- 50:27Speaker 1: talked about JJ Star Trek was the lens flares. They
- 50:31Speaker 1: talked about how they did it, which is basically aiming
- 50:34Speaker 1: a flashlight just off camera at the lens. They talked
- 50:37Speaker 1: about camera shaking that JJ Abrams has a very specific
- 50:42Speaker 1: way of he actually goes to the camera and does this.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I mean he's doing that any and only he does it.
- 50:51Speaker 1: He only trusts like one other director to like shake
- 50:55Speaker 1: the camera, So that's sort of his thing. Okay, what
- 51:00Speaker 1: about other changes they made, Like what specifically, what did
- 51:04Speaker 1: you think about the out of left field relationship between
- 51:08Speaker 1: Aura and Spot.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a choice.
- 51:14Speaker 1: People had opinions on that.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember people did not. We're not happy about that.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it's well, I think it feels weird now because
- 51:26Speaker 1: now we know in the prime timeline we see Ahura
- 51:31Speaker 1: on strange new worlds, and it's a different dynamic. She
- 51:35Speaker 1: is a much less developed character, much less confident character.
- 51:40Speaker 1: She's much younger, she or at least she appears to be,
- 51:44Speaker 1: you know, and so now it's just now it would
- 51:46Speaker 1: just be like icky.
- 51:49Speaker 2: That's true. So it's completely different characterizations too.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I like the aura of strange new world better. Yeah,
- 51:59Speaker 1: and and not be because because of how they decided
- 52:02Speaker 1: to portray her, she should be somebody fresh out of
- 52:05Speaker 1: the academy, somebody who's not very confident yet, somebody who
- 52:09Speaker 1: hasn't had a five year mission, you know, who hasn't
- 52:11Speaker 1: done all these things. Because the arror that we see
- 52:13Speaker 1: saying in the Star Trek movies is she's confident because
- 52:18Speaker 1: she's done all these things.
- 52:21Speaker 2: You know. Action Saru would fit in this movie. Yes
- 52:25Speaker 2: he would. He would.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Hip pop it out.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. How do we feel
- 52:39Speaker 2: about that relationship? I I don't feel like it was needed.
- 52:44Speaker 2: I see why they put it in there, because you
- 52:47Speaker 2: needed a reason for Spot to vent his emotions and
- 52:51Speaker 2: to have that that emotional outlet. But oh no, we lost,
- 52:57Speaker 2: we lost Scott. I will take him off for now.
- 53:02Speaker 2: In the meantime. Uh yeah, you needed that that outlet
- 53:05Speaker 2: for him to to be uh explaining his feelings and
- 53:10Speaker 2: so having that relationship someone that he can fide in.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Let you have that storyline reason to do that, because
- 53:17Speaker 2: otherwise you just have a vulcan who doesn't want to
- 53:20Speaker 2: show emotions and so you never get that inner, that
- 53:24Speaker 2: inner depth of what he has going on. So it
- 53:26Speaker 2: definitely made sense. But as it continues through the series,
- 53:32Speaker 2: I guess we'll see how it turns out. I remember
- 53:35Speaker 2: not really carrying one way or the other, but it
- 53:38Speaker 2: just kind of depended on what people thought. Well, since
- 53:43Speaker 2: Scott is currently frozen and we'll hopefully come back soon
- 53:48Speaker 2: in the meantime, let's go to your guys's thoughts on
- 53:51Speaker 2: the on the movie, and we'll go to listener feedback
- 53:54Speaker 2: and then we'll bring Scott back in. So here's let's
- 53:57Speaker 2: go to listener feedback. Listener feedback, so if you want
- 54:05Speaker 2: to join us, Oh there is Scott. Okay, here we go.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Sorry about that, Like, I think the power outage knocked
- 54:09Speaker 1: out some cell towers and I'm I'm I run this
- 54:12Speaker 1: off my cellphone, so oh for.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah it's fine. So I was inviting listener feedback,
- 54:18Speaker 2: so let me Uh, Chaz Busin is wanting to come on,
- 54:21Speaker 2: so let me put that.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I've got some emails too.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, go for it. Go for it.
- 54:26Speaker 1: So I got one that was a Facebook message. I'll
- 54:33Speaker 1: have to.
- 54:35Speaker 3: See if I can.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Did I just lose you?
- 54:39Speaker 2: No, I'm here?
- 54:40Speaker 1: Hello, okay, good?
- 54:42Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh no, he froze again. Oh no, all right,
- 54:52Speaker 2: Well let's let's see if he comes back in the meantime.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Chaz business there, So I'm gonna bring him on so
- 54:57Speaker 2: that way I'm not alone. It's scary on the internet.
- 55:00Speaker 3: It's scary on the internet alone.
- 55:02Speaker 2: Huh, that's right. What's going on? Man?
- 55:04Speaker 3: Not much?
- 55:05Speaker 2: Did you did you watch the movie in preparation for this?
- 55:08Speaker 3: Well, I didn't know which ones two guys were gonna
- 55:10Speaker 3: start with.
- 55:11Speaker 2: So oh, we'll start with the person. We're just gonna
- 55:13Speaker 2: go in order O three episodes.
- 55:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so you're gonna do dness next, okay and the
- 55:20Speaker 3: last one? Yeah okay, yeah, Well I've seen this one enough.
- 55:25Speaker 2: I figured. Yeah, all right, Scott's back to.
- 55:30Speaker 1: The person who sent me the the Facebook messenger one.
- 55:33Speaker 1: I can't look at it read it at the same
- 55:35Speaker 1: time as being on the on the show. So go ahead.
- 55:38Speaker 1: And I know you said you forgot the email. My
- 55:40Speaker 1: email address is strong Beard one seven o one at
- 55:45Speaker 1: gmail dot com. Strong Beard one seven one at gmail
- 55:49Speaker 1: dot com. Resend that to me at my email address
- 55:51Speaker 1: and I'll read it next week. I do have another
- 55:55Speaker 1: one that I got, uh, I think I got this
- 55:58Speaker 1: last week during or just after the show. If I
- 56:01Speaker 1: can read it.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, go for it.
- 56:05Speaker 1: So this one was Kevin, I can't pronounce your last
- 56:12Speaker 1: name l E U N G okay, and he says,
- 56:20Speaker 1: I think you guys kind of took a different tact
- 56:22Speaker 1: on the Renegadees YouTube fan made movie. Nah, not that
- 56:26Speaker 1: the opinion was wrong, just that in context, I think
- 56:29Speaker 1: it was good for a Trek theme show, and the
- 56:31Speaker 1: effort made was much better than Section thirty one. Give
- 56:34Speaker 1: them paramount. It's due ridicule for the shit movie it
- 56:37Speaker 1: was that it will do. They spent twenty times of
- 56:40Speaker 1: money and own the IP and have vast resources. The
- 56:43Speaker 1: fan made flick managed to get previous Trek actors and
- 56:46Speaker 1: a much better plot and accomplished a lot more for
- 56:48Speaker 1: much less. The acting sucked, yes, but you can't pay
- 56:52Speaker 1: a guy that gets three times that or more and
- 56:54Speaker 1: expect the same performance. Scal and income go hand in hand.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Just my two cents. The movie was crap, but it
- 57:00Speaker 1: needed to be said. It was good for the amount,
- 57:02Speaker 1: and how much better effort than Paramount has made from
- 57:06Speaker 1: Kevin Kevin's Kevin's trecky PSU. He said, I won't call
- 57:12Speaker 1: in because my voice isn't worthy of being broadcast, nor
- 57:15Speaker 1: is my face for that matter. That's something you and
- 57:17Speaker 1: I have in common. Maybe if I can find a
- 57:20Speaker 1: talking gift, I might consider. Well, thank you for the email,
- 57:24Speaker 1: number one. I appreciate that.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Yeah, And then he did send me another email. Watched
- 57:29Speaker 1: this one by Renegade's I think is a bit better.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Give him the chance, and it's a link. Maybe we'll
- 57:35Speaker 1: post in the show notes. I'll send you a link
- 57:37Speaker 1: to another fan made movie. So thank you for sending
- 57:40Speaker 1: me that email. Appreciate it very much.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, thank you.
- 57:44Speaker 1: All Right, what's up, Chad Viz?
- 57:46Speaker 3: What's up?
- 57:47Speaker 2: You don't tell us his thoughts on the movie?
- 57:49Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, I mean it was awesome to see it
- 57:54Speaker 3: back in the day. Yeah, because did you like it
- 57:57Speaker 3: back then? Or yeah, yeah, I loved it. I was
- 58:00Speaker 3: super excited. I was like, at first, I was skeptical
- 58:04Speaker 3: because I was like, they shouldn't reboot it. It was
- 58:08Speaker 3: my first thoughts and I walked out in the movie
- 58:10Speaker 3: theater just smiling. I was like, that was fun. Okay,
- 58:14Speaker 3: It's like that was actually a really fun movie, and
- 58:16Speaker 3: there's hope for Star Trek. Yeah, and then it kind
- 58:20Speaker 3: of went downhill from there.
- 58:22Speaker 2: So I I do remember that uniform was a fairly
- 58:27Speaker 2: popular Halloween costume.
- 58:29Speaker 3: It was cool. Yeah, yeah, about the only thing I
- 58:33Speaker 3: didn't like about the movie was the enterprise m I
- 58:37Speaker 3: wasn't a fan of that enter Reid like.
- 58:38Speaker 2: The you didn't like it.
- 58:40Speaker 3: It was like it looked like the Apple Story. And
- 58:43Speaker 3: I thought the engine room just looked like you just
- 58:45Speaker 3: went out.
- 58:46Speaker 2: On the engine room.
- 58:47Speaker 3: What you could tell it was like you went to
- 58:49Speaker 3: a warehouse and went to a brewery and it doesn't
- 58:52Speaker 3: look like an engine room. Yeah, it's like you guys
- 58:56Speaker 3: were cheap and didn't want to make a set, so
- 58:58Speaker 3: you're just like, hey, we're gonna make this the dream here.
- 59:01Speaker 3: So yeah, and then you're like, well, how big is
- 59:06Speaker 3: this thing? Because if you're on a ship, you're in
- 59:10Speaker 3: confined spaces, right, I mean real estate on the ship
- 59:14Speaker 3: is worth a lot.
- 59:16Speaker 2: That's huge, Yeah, a lot of open spaces and.
- 59:22Speaker 3: You don't waste you don't waste space on a ship
- 59:24Speaker 3: everything has to be precisely done.
- 59:28Speaker 2: You need vaulted ceilings here, yeahesthetic.
- 59:32Speaker 3: And that's my complain about Strange New Worlds is the
- 59:34Speaker 3: enterprise is too big.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Mhmm.
- 59:37Speaker 3: It's like, you know, Pike's rooms, Giant has the kitchen
- 59:40Speaker 3: all this. It's like, no, you would have smaller quarters,
- 59:46Speaker 3: especially after coming off a cruise ship because you see,
- 59:49Speaker 3: like you see your cabin room and you pay a
- 59:52Speaker 3: lot for your cabin room and it's.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Tiny. Yeah yeah, fair enough, fair enough and all right.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: I don't know, it's like but I besides that, you know,
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: the actors were great.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: I thought Bones was my favorite character on there. I
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: thought he did a great job. Oh what's what's the
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: flactor's name?
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he's gonna be Johnny Cage.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: Oh is he?
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah yeah, it's like that. It's weird not hearing
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: him yell at hueye yeah yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Don't you know in my head that shows Boimler and Bones.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Spheres, Yes, yes, yeah, I love the Boys.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: What's funny because it looks so different in the Boys
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: because he's the butcher and he's just a jerk, you know. Yeah,
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: it's kind of like he's really the bad guys. Is
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: it the boys or is the other.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: That's the whole point of the Boys?
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Right, yeah, but the other one, I mean Bolen and
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: the other guy he plays kind of the same you know, yeah,
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: he plays the same character.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Does does rewatching this Scott make you want a fourth
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Kelvin film or not?
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: I wanted one?
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: No?
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: No?
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: And I know why they I mean, you know, every
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: time you say fourth Kelvin film, all I think about
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: is Antony Elson, right yeah, you know, in the tragic
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: way that he died, the freak way that he died,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: And I just I don't think that's a great way
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: to to deal with that. You recast him? Do you
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: say that he died? What do you do? Well, they
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: told their story. The Kelvin timeline story has been told, right, yeah,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: so reference it, sure, you know, do maybe a slight
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: crossover where one character, you know, maybe, But no, I
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: need a fourth film.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Will they be older if they remake or make another Kilvin?
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Then the Star Trek cast was when they first Oh.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so, yeah, enough time has passed. They're
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: past their five year mission now, yeah, yeah, they're almost
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I mean they're in they're venturing into the motion picture territory.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Why they're getting close to that when you think about.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: It, I think they're past They might even be past
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: the motion picture age wise. Yeah, Chris Ban has got
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: to be in his what late thirties?
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: I think he's in his.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: All right, she's like forty five six.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Well then how old was William?
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: Okay, so how.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Old was William Shatner in nineteen seventy seven?
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: For he's born in what thirty thirty or something like that.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: Let's see math Hurts.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: In Star Trek the Motion picture he was forty eight.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Okay, Well there you go. So yeah, pretty close.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: So the motion picture age when you think about it.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: So, yeah, well then they can fight the Genesis device.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you could do it, right, But you
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: know one thing about Checkof, Like he wasn't even in
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: the first season so right of the series, and you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: he kind of have limited screen time. I know it's
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: sad he passed, but you could you can still do
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: the movie without Checkoff And.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: You could you could, yeah, but you know, so, but
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: he is, I mean he was.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Checkof.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: So yeah, Like they introduced that one character in the
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: third film, I forget her name. The the girl they
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: meet on the planet.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: Uh with the black and white.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean, oh there goes.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind seeing more more of her.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: She was cool, yeah, but I mean she could fill
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: that checkof rule, like not the genius, but she was
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: a good mechanic.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah that's true.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I went to I made the mistake try to
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Google on my phone, and when I did that, it
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: made you I was.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Looking for her name, and then I went that, I've
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: had to actually get another phone, and plus I've got
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: a tablet in case I need to Yeah.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: Well, you usually have my computer here, I have the
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: cleaning lady in the house.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: So you could do it with an older lookke person.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: I don't think so, maybe, like if he's just in
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: the background of a scene, but.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Or they could, you know, they could just I don't know.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Would you want to talk to the family about it.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: You don't want to see the ie it, No, but
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: they could do something like you know that you you
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: start the movie out at his memorial service. Yeah, and
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: and as long as you got Yelton's Family's approval of that,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: you know, say that he died violently saving the planet
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: against you know, the vodka marauders or something.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: You know, I think you could do like just me
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: spitballing here. Right, you don't start with the whole crew.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: You start with maybe like Kirk and Spock, right, And
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: and it is Kirk's retirement or Kirk's because it's been
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: so much time, right, So, so Kirk is leaving the Enterprise,
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: this is it, right, And some two of them are
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: just hanging out, you know, it's a last trip and
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: they need to to go somewhere for the big ceremony
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: or something like that, and on their way they get
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: intercepted with the emergency distress from maybe Ahora, who's now
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: serving on another ship because it's been so long, right,
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: And so throughout the story, you're collecting members of the
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: crew to fight whatever problem it is. Right, So you
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: give each character their moment to shine, but you're collecting them.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: And then you could even do like, oh, we gotta
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: go get check off. You could either he's over here
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: and he's busy and we can't get a hold of him,
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: or or the ship that he's on gets attacked and
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: maybe he perished.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Is this pick card season thirty now?
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Basically yeah, yeah, but no, but that kind of technical.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: Right, yeah, picking up the crew.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you're picking up the crew. You go fight the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: threat and then you come.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: Back and then something happens. Boom, he dies, you know,
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: sad part. Yeah, so you see check off boom, ship
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: blows up. Yeah, they're like stunned. Now they got to
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: get their events.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, like he comes on the screen for just
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: a hot second, boom explodes, you know. Yeah, something you know.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: I'm telling you hashtag Daniel riz as a new Star
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Trek writer.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: But they.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: It's very it's it's very just string together that you
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: need more to it than that. But yeah, it's the framework.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: So yeah, you can ride in the crying emotions scenes.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: That's right. That's right, all the crime.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Now, yes, please do that.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: I wonder if they would add that in.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: And the Dan could add all the race.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: I wonder, yeah, I wonder from because of Discovery they
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: would be like, okay, now we'd interject some crying. Yes, yeah, jeez,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: we're crying. Yeah.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: So since you're Gonnet ref you and all the movies,
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: well you re review section thirty one.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: Now all the movies. We're doing the Kelvin ones.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Yeah, we're just doing just Kelvin next next week we're
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: gonna do Star Trek, the regrigeration of Khan. That's right.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: So I just thinking, you know, they're old enough to
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: do the Wratha con almost right.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: They did it.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: They did yeah, but but they already did it. So
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: I was like, you do Ratha khn, but you could
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: do it in the Kelvin Tomeline where yeah or check
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Off dies with the ear worm.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I would like to see a Kelvin say the whales.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I would like to see a voyage. I think that
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: would be hilarious set in twenty twenty five.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Chris Pinney is hilarious, man, it would be past. Yeah.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: I'm surprised he hasn't been in more movies.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: I mean, okay, if you're going to do the whales,
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: you need to do a scene where they can actually
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: communicate with the whales, and you get William Shatner to
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: voice one of the whales.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Or Ellen's degenerous. Oh Ellen doing the whale boys?
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Yes, yes, right, and and then and then and then
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: Shatner sitting there going why are you talking like a moron?
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Just talk? Why are you doing that? Oh? Grandpa's mad,
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Grandma just anoid?
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm George and I will help you with
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: your planet.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: Yes, yes, planet.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: So he's not Kirk, he's just one of the whale voices.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: This is one of the whale voices. Yeah so and
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Ellen de Generes as George and Gracie.
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: You know what cracks me up is like, what was
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: the device that stopped the planet, that killed all the
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: power in the planet.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Oh that was yeah, the probe?
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the probe. Yeah, it was like they never found
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: out who brought the pope probe. Nope, like nothing, No,
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: it's like just fague. It's like there's some alien stops
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: the planet, kills all the power, and yeah, everybody's gonna
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: die if we don't say the wills.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, Grobe was sent by the founders.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: Yes, that'd be cool.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because they don't like going out and exploring themselves.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: They have they kind of have this history of sending
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: other their own out or whatever to.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: The Founders have whales swimming.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: In What was the name of those guys from Voyager,
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: the the first series of bad guys they meet the Yeah,
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: the Kason.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: Stupid.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Yes, yes, we can't hear the will sounds anymore.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: Let's say the Kason. Well, they dumped the Kason so
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: they hated that storyline on Voyage.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Yeah, those guys came and went real fast.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Yes, I'm doing The Boys rewatch and I'm like two
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: or three episodes into season four. So seven of nine
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: just came on Jennifer Lean.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: Just last So that was such a good season.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I listened to it with my my boys,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Garrett and Robbie.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. Yeah, all right, Well, if I.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: Ever met him in public, would you call him Robbie
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: or would you er?
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I just say, what's up Robbie, Robbie?
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Hey, guys, you know.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: What's up our man?
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: All right, On that note, we should be wrapping it
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: up because that's ridiculous.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: But yeah, chat in the basement, guys.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm about to go rescue him. Oh yeah, but yeah, guys,
