  at CMA Fest. All right, We're gonna do a little Q and a

  sash before he performs. So anybody in the front that has a censored question,

  Fest, I feel like for you, you've been in Nashville for what four
• 0:56
  years now? This maam, it's a little different this year. Yeah.

  I remember being drunk on Broadway somewhere out there about a year ago today at

  CMA Fest as a fan and uh, being on the opposite end of that
• 1:11
  right now, I'm just so blessed. Seriously. I love your story too,
• 1:14
  of how football has kind of been the passion of your life, that's
• 1:19
  what you thought you were going to be doing, and sort of God kind
• 1:23
  of pulling the rug under from underneath your feet from that one and saying you've
• 1:27
  got a different path. Tell us a little bit about that story and how
• 1:30
  that happened. Absolutely. So. I went to Montana right after, right
• 1:36
  after right after high school and played a year of football there and everything was
• 1:41
  looking good. It just didn't really feel right towards the end there, and
• 1:45
  I think for like about a month and a half there and uh, I
• 1:49
  had Uh. I remember getting home one day and I kind of locked myself
• 1:53
  in the bathroom and I was like, I just started bawling. I was
• 1:57
  weeping. I was like, hey, man, I know it's been a
• 2:00
  while, but I need a sign and I need a fast because I don't
• 2:02
  know, I don't know what I'm doing with my life. And dried myself
• 2:07
  up, went to bed that day, and then went to practice the next
• 2:10
  day and first play ran a post over the middle and broke my leg in
• 2:13
  three places. So I was like, that's my sign right there. And
• 2:15
  I moved back home about a week later, got surgery and never went back.
• 2:21
  And then now you're in Nashville pursuing an incredible dream that is just crushing
• 2:24
  it right now. You guys fans a tucker or what I mean, not
• 2:30
  grateful that you broke your leg, but kind of gratefully. I'm grateful I
• 2:32
  broke my leg. So we were talking a little bit earlier about how summer
• 2:37
  Olympics are coming, and you were talking about you you can pole vault back
• 2:40
  in the day. Yeah, y'all, do you think you could pull vault?
• 2:45
  No? Every He's like, absolutely not. You said you're a big
• 2:47
  fan of it though you love watching it. Oh, I love it.
• 2:50
  It's great. If I could go back and do like any sport, football
• 2:53
  would be the number one, but my number two would be pull volt probably
• 2:57
  right. Well, listen, we're gonna leave fule vaulting to you because mesa

  months pregnant. I'm not pull vaulting anytime too, There's absolutely no way.

  So being a fan of CMA Fest and then now being on stage at CMA
• 3:07
  Fest, what are some of those moments you remember being here as a fan
• 3:10
  and some of your favorite moments to experience on the other side. Yeah,
• 3:15
  I mean it was hot. That's what I remember. I've been blessed this
• 3:19
  year because they put me in like ac rooms. I'm like, that's great.
• 3:22
  But I don't know. I just remember being hot and uh, you
• 3:24
  know, trying to drink away the drink away the day, trying to get
• 3:29
  through it. But I don't know. I've been a fan of country music
• 3:31
  for as long as I can remember, and you know, CMA Fest is
• 3:37
  a really good way to get everyone in one place at one time. And
• 3:40
  I don't know, this is this is the weekend that I look forward to
• 3:43
  almost every year since living here and being able to perform this year and how
• 3:47
  everything's going, I don't know, it's just it's crazy. Well, we
• 3:52
  got to talk about winding to Whiskey really quick because I feel like this is
• 3:54
  kind of the song. Yeah, you can make some noise for that that
• 3:59
  everybody's really starting to notice who you are who might not have known who you
• 4:02
  are. And then you know, just us playing it with iHeart country and
• 4:05
  you being here on stage with us. What is having a song that people
• 4:10
  are finally wrapping their arms around and hearing what is that like for you as
• 4:14
  an artist? So I've been writing songs in Nashville for about three and a
• 4:17
  half years now, and every single day is a new song, sometimes even
• 4:23
  two songs a day. And you know, my management team, so I
• 4:26
  signed a publishing deal about three years ago, and my manager has just been
• 4:30
  like, hey, let's hold off, let's hold off on teasing, let's
• 4:33
  hold off on stuff because we in that time, we've written some really good
• 4:36
  songs and I've wanted to, you know, jump the gun a little bit,
• 4:41
  and she's like, just hold off. We need stuff to back it
• 4:44
  up with. And she would always just tell me that. I'm like,
• 4:46
  yes, ma'am, I trust you. And you know, last December November
• 4:50
  time, we came to a conclusion it's like, hey, we should probably
• 4:54
  start teasing some stuff, and wanted to Whiskey was one of the first that
• 4:57
  I teased. And it resonated pretty well with everyone, I would say,
• 5:01
  and it just took off and it's doing what it's doing now. And you
• 5:06
  know, being at shows like this and singing to t you guys and having
• 5:10
  y'all sing it back to me. It's it's what I've always wanted. Truly,
• 5:14

  No, it's well. So we started off Thursday at the Riverfront stage

  yeah, hell yeah, it was great. Beaver Dam was in the house

  absolutely, and then we went to uh, Wisconsin and Minnesota, and then

  I left. I left Minnesota this morning at like midnight, so rock and

  roll, man, let's go Hair of the Dog. Y'all were about to

  have a party here. Okay, is the tattoos real? Right? The

  new one? Okay? All right? I just wanted to make sure Zel

  he's got a new album out. They just came about Friday. An someone

  I won't mention her name was telling me this story about your mom and how

  she thought the tattoo wasn't real. Yeah, it's because I lied to her.

  I told her it was temporary. And then she was like a couple

  months and she was like, that thing is really wearing off. And I

  was like, well, mom, is temporary in the way that the Mississippi

  River is temporary. One day it will cease to flow and this tattoo will

  cool. Yeah. I mean I remember the first time I ever played CMA

  Fest. I was playing in like the lobby. I was playing basically the

  gift shop of Bridgestone Arena, like you could like by Predators Jerseys where I

  was playing, and that was cool, and you know I was I played

  Prayed for you there and I still play it to this day, and we

  moved from there the riverfront stage to budget to hear getting getting the count.
