- 0:00Speaker 1: I love that you've literally just walked in, and you've
- 0:03Speaker 1: walked in and a wing.
- 0:06Speaker 2: That's how I walk in the room.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Where have you been?
- 0:11Speaker 3: What have you been doing? By the way, Paul's on zoom,
- 0:13Speaker 3: we can't say why. I've been told I'm not allowed to.
- 0:16Speaker 4: Yeah, well not until after the court case.
- 0:18Speaker 5: Yeah, and there's an interlockery agreement involved.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Trevor.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Trevor Long is here. You're only here because you need
- 0:27Speaker 3: a place to stay.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Who sponsors this show? How are you affording me?
- 0:33Speaker 3: There's no Sponsorgo we should start making up fake sponsors
- 0:36Speaker 3: for this show.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I don't think you should given you too.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Maybe it'll be something for like blue shoe or some
- 0:41Speaker 3: sort of stiffy cream.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I don't know what you say.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Can you read this live read for cholesterol Medication?
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'll do a live read for the Man Shake?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah, the Man Shake. Actually, you know what, what's that
- 0:56Speaker 1: brand that sponsors everything? The dot com? The Ball Clippers,
- 1:01Speaker 1: the Man Skates. You wouldn't be great with Man.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Skates' lifestyle website. They've never reached out. What does that
- 1:09Speaker 2: tell you about they're design to be involved with me?
- 1:12Speaker 3: They would just be like that. Those Clippers would just
- 1:14Speaker 3: get caught in his shoulders somewhere.
- 1:15Speaker 2: They're like, we're worried he'll actually take his shirt off
- 1:18Speaker 2: and show people what it's like.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we will just stick with.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Getting buff guys to shave themselves.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Thanks, That's why they keep coming to me.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I swear like any raiser knew your body would just
- 1:30Speaker 1: look like it was burning down the Amazon. Come on, mate,
- 1:36Speaker 1: what's wrong? What's wrong with you?
- 1:38Speaker 2: I was actually just going to grow a beard.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm desperately trying.
- 1:44Speaker 2: You'll hit puberty soon, Paul.
- 1:46Speaker 4: I'm desperately trying. Yeah, I hope one day to look
- 1:50Speaker 4: like Gordy.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, don't hope that any years ago.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I found it.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I found an old photo of myself the other day
- 1:59Speaker 3: with a beard, and it's just really yeah, it's oh god,
- 2:03Speaker 3: it's all kinds of no, I look like I'm from
- 2:06Speaker 3: Paul's country.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So I in the late nineties into the early two
- 2:11Speaker 2: thousands didn't just so now I just just call this
- 2:14Speaker 2: stubble right, and this is long at the moment, but
- 2:16Speaker 2: it was full, like not crazy beard man stuff, But
- 2:19Speaker 2: it just looked unkept like I didn't care because I
- 2:23Speaker 2: didn't you been my passport photo at the time was horrible.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You would have looked like a homeless terrorist.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yes, that's where I was going with it. It was
- 2:31Speaker 2: really the kind of thing that you really didn't want
- 2:33Speaker 2: to present at an airport.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So, yeah, I got a new passport, but.
- 2:38Speaker 1: You enjoyed the cavity search. It works out now.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And then you got to get some action. I married
- 2:43Speaker 2: a long time, you know, sometimes you got to find
- 2:45Speaker 2: a he is this on?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I've never listened to I don't know how
- 2:50Speaker 2: you start the show or anything.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I do love how you rocked up in your snappy
- 2:54Speaker 1: little coopra.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Still, how was how was that going through?
- 2:58Speaker 2: Best thing I've ever done?
- 3:00Speaker 1: Really?
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, so so in love with it. You do
- 3:04Speaker 2: look cute in that Thank you mate. Yeah, it's funny.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And I've always been a hatchback guy always. And then
- 3:09Speaker 2: so I went to the one of the launches because
- 3:12Speaker 2: it was one of those events, Paul, where there was
- 3:13Speaker 2: a you know, drive days with the Murtoring journals, and
- 3:17Speaker 2: then there was a fancy lifestyle thing influences. Yeah, I
- 3:21Speaker 2: feel like there was some people I knew there, but anyway,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and it was a pr person I'd never met before,
- 3:26Speaker 2: so I just took the invite. It was the I
- 3:28Speaker 2: wanted to go, so I'm like, yeah, sure cool, and
- 3:31Speaker 2: drove the car and instantly in my video, like ten
- 3:33Speaker 2: minute video. I wasn't even there for more than two hours.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I just went on buying this car, right, and then
- 3:39Speaker 2: I broke an embargo because I wasn't told there was
- 3:40Speaker 2: an embargo, because they didn't think that anyone at that
- 3:43Speaker 2: event would actually write a review. So I'm just like,
- 3:45Speaker 2: I got home and wrote the review and you know,
- 3:47Speaker 2: no drummers. And then someone reads me and goes, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: it would be great if you just held off on that.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I went why, and they go, because everyone else is
- 3:54Speaker 2: holding off, And I went, well, why didn't you tell me? Mate?
- 3:58Speaker 2: They panicked, panicked because I'm not shut up, Oh my god,
- 4:04Speaker 2: panic because no, they panic because people like Paul would
- 4:07Speaker 2: have lost their shit that a bunch of bunch of
- 4:10Speaker 2: them are holding off on an embargo and all these
- 4:13Speaker 2: annoying influences are now posting and I'm out here putting
- 4:16Speaker 2: a reviewer, so look me with them very early, because.
- 4:20Speaker 1: With all your respect, I don't think little Pablo is
- 4:23Speaker 1: going to be threatened by your little review which was
- 4:26Speaker 1: probably written on the bonnet of your car with a
- 4:28Speaker 1: crayon and some butcher's paper.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Listen, and we're.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Spoken about it.
- 4:32Speaker 2: We've spoken about other people in this industry, for whom
- 4:36Speaker 2: you know, Paul Malman have worked with before. Trust me,
- 4:39Speaker 2: they care.
- 4:40Speaker 4: You know, you're absolutely spot on, Trevor. And the frustrating
- 4:44Speaker 4: thing for me is I'd actually much prefer that system
- 4:46Speaker 4: where you just get home and you just get it
- 4:48Speaker 4: over and done with. But we have this ridiculous thing
- 4:51Speaker 4: that if someone breaks an embargo by ten seconds, it
- 4:54Speaker 4: is the end of the world. And to me, I
- 4:57Speaker 4: just I really just think it's it's so stupid. I
- 5:00Speaker 4: would just prefer to do it your way.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And for me it was hilarious because initially it was
- 5:03Speaker 2: just can you just take the word review out? Because
- 5:05Speaker 2: it wasn't really detailed. It was just impressions more than anything.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But could just take the word review out? And then
- 5:10Speaker 2: a couple of hours later it was like, actually, could
- 5:13Speaker 2: you delete it?
- 5:15Speaker 4: There's so much.
- 5:18Speaker 2: At that point, I'm like, yeah, I want to buy
- 5:19Speaker 2: the car, so I'm hoping to sweet talk them here.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So I took it down and everything didn't do me
- 5:23Speaker 2: any favors on the car just quietly, so I shouldn't
- 5:25Speaker 2: left it up. But anyway, so my first car was
- 5:29Speaker 2: a say It Ibeitha and Paul that that's the reason
- 5:33Speaker 2: I bought this car because Cooper is basically the brother
- 5:36Speaker 2: or the sister or the love child of say It.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And for me, this is just my world coming back,
- 5:41Speaker 2: and so it's fucking perfect. My wife calls it a
- 5:44Speaker 2: middle life crisis. I don't care.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So it's like you're a virgin all over it.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, nerdy little virgin all over again. Love it.
- 5:52Speaker 4: You know, it's funny true if they have we had
- 5:55Speaker 4: the chance of two of the Cooper factory in Spain,
- 5:59Speaker 4: and is it's a bit like the Czech Republic where
- 6:03Speaker 4: everyone just drives a Scota. In Spain they're all driving
- 6:07Speaker 4: Sayats and yeah, it's just crazy. And it actually it's
- 6:12Speaker 4: an interesting brand because we're say It is a bit
- 6:14Speaker 4: sort of a bit more sort of conventional Volkswagen like
- 6:17Speaker 4: Coopra is like totally the opposite. It's it's sort of young, adventurous.
- 6:23Speaker 4: The styling is really out there, and it's funny. The
- 6:26Speaker 4: Spanish just just kind of do their own thing, which
- 6:29Speaker 4: is just hilarious within the Volkswagen group, which is just
- 6:32Speaker 4: typically German exactly.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I think it's great though, Like we saw some of
- 6:36Speaker 1: the stuff coming out of the Munich motor Shower that
- 6:38Speaker 1: trip you just did. It looked great, right, Like they.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Pushed the boundaries of the concept cars and then the
- 6:43Speaker 2: real cars, Paul. They don't look that.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Far off, Yeah, exactly. If you look at the Taviscan,
- 6:48Speaker 4: which is their suv electric car that's coming, the concept
- 6:51Speaker 4: looks virtually identical to the production car. And I think
- 6:55Speaker 4: that they've just given Coopra all of that leeway to
- 6:58Speaker 4: do kind of whatever they want. And it's great because
- 7:00Speaker 4: you have all the Volkswagen underpinnings, so you know that
- 7:03Speaker 4: it's been engineered correctly, and they've just been given a
- 7:05Speaker 4: bit of latitude when it comes to design and sort
- 7:08Speaker 4: of making it look really cool.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah. And look, the thing is, I've always I've wanted
- 7:12Speaker 2: an electric car for years. I just couldn't buy Tesla.
- 7:16Speaker 2: There's fucking many of them on the road right now.
- 7:18Speaker 2: It is just so Camri like, isn't it. It is
- 7:22Speaker 2: hard to not look at it and just go I
- 7:24Speaker 2: just don't feel you don't you want to be unique
- 7:26Speaker 2: in your car.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Well, it's funny.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I I think at the moment with the EV landscape,
- 7:30Speaker 3: there really isn't that much to choose from, and you're
- 7:33Speaker 3: right like Tesla are everywhere. I think the new ones
- 7:36Speaker 3: look really cool, but pick of the bunch in terms
- 7:39Speaker 3: of uniqueness is definitely Coopra.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Actually I don't actually think they look cool at all.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I just think that they're all. They're available in what
- 7:47Speaker 4: like five colors, and every cheap person gets a white one,
- 7:51Speaker 4: and then everyone who wants to look cool gets a
- 7:54Speaker 4: red one or a blue one, and then the rest
- 7:56Speaker 4: are just these pedestrian colors in between. I just that
- 8:00Speaker 4: they have completely lost their appeal.
- 8:02Speaker 1: This is coming from a guy who's going to wipe.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, what's your view when you
- 8:09Speaker 2: own a car? What's your view on a small update aesthetically? So,
- 8:15Speaker 2: for example, if I just bought a Model three, I
- 8:17Speaker 2: would be out of my mind with the fear of
- 8:20Speaker 2: that new look coming to Australia any month, any year,
- 8:23Speaker 2: any whenever the hell it's going to be, because you're
- 8:25Speaker 2: going to feel so old in the in the bubbly
- 8:29Speaker 2: little thing you've got.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Now, well, you know what I messaged trevoron threads about
- 8:33Speaker 4: this exact same thing. My dad. I literally told him
- 8:37Speaker 4: there is a Model three coming. He just ignored me,
- 8:40Speaker 4: ordered it, and then he got his car delivered, and
- 8:44Speaker 4: like literally four days later they released the update, and
- 8:48Speaker 4: I said to him, Dad, are you like, do you
- 8:50Speaker 4: even do you not listen to me?
- 8:52Speaker 2: Do you know what I do? Dad?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Does he know what you do?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Do you think you're into crypto?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. That's the thing. People will just get whatever
- 9:03Speaker 4: they want, and in this instance, he was getting it
- 9:05Speaker 4: for the tax benefits, so he wanted it sooner rather
- 9:08Speaker 4: than later. But ultimately with Tesla's the problem I have
- 9:12Speaker 4: is that updates just appear randomly for no reason. And
- 9:16Speaker 4: while the software updates and stuff are great, they are
- 9:18Speaker 4: very much becoming a legacy car company now by doing
- 9:22Speaker 4: visual updates, changing prices, doing discounts to clear stock. It
- 9:27Speaker 4: is just another car company now that is dressed up
- 9:29Speaker 4: as a big tech player, which.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Is credit to them, though let's be real, that's credit
- 9:34Speaker 2: to them for getting to that point and for having
- 9:35Speaker 2: the volume that we are looking at them as if they're,
- 9:38Speaker 2: you know, a camera on the road. It's just I'm
- 9:42Speaker 2: still flabbergasted by how well they sell given the price
- 9:45Speaker 2: people are paying. And I just I think in one
- 9:48Speaker 2: of our other conversations, I talked about how it frustrates
- 9:50Speaker 2: me that people buy a toy at a Corolla without
- 9:52Speaker 2: driving a Key or a Hindo. Right, they just buy
- 9:55Speaker 2: it because it's the trust in this brand.
- 9:57Speaker 1: There's a brand loyalty there.
- 9:59Speaker 2: But people buying Tesla's because I actually don't know why.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Is it because they think it's the only way to
- 10:04Speaker 2: get an electric car that's got a charging network? Is
- 10:06Speaker 2: it because they think it's the most innovative car on
- 10:08Speaker 2: the market. Did they drive a pole Star or anything
- 10:12Speaker 2: else like that? I just don't think they are. I
- 10:14Speaker 2: don't think people are driving other cars to find out
- 10:17Speaker 2: whether or not it has the appeal.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Well, here's one thing I think that stands out with Tesla, right,
- 10:22Speaker 3: is literally the charging stations alone.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't disagree at all, but I think that
- 10:31Speaker 2: if you absolutely analyze ninety percent of ev owners, most
- 10:35Speaker 2: of them don't need to go anywhere near a public charger.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Bloke in the in the office behind mine brought a
- 10:41Speaker 2: Model three and a couple of years ago, and I
- 10:43Speaker 2: said to him once time as I passed my mate.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I've got a charger at the front of the office
- 10:46Speaker 2: if you ever want to use it against mate. I've
- 10:47Speaker 2: never been anywhere but at home, just plugged into the
- 10:49Speaker 2: wall because I don't need to and I i've.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Had it, doesn't have friends.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, probably are you charging your current home? Yeah?
- 10:57Speaker 2: I installed a wall box at home, and even even
- 11:00Speaker 2: with a normal power point, I would never have run
- 11:04Speaker 2: out of time or anything at this point because I've
- 11:06Speaker 2: never driven so far that in a day in Sydney
- 11:09Speaker 2: that I needed to. And I took a road trip
- 11:10Speaker 2: to my mum's a couple of weekends ago, stopped at
- 11:13Speaker 2: Scone in the interim charger, stopped at Tamworth and the
- 11:16Speaker 2: Tesla charge, and then drove all the way home without charging.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Like that's the only time I'll use a public charger
- 11:21Speaker 2: is when I do a road trip. And road trips
- 11:23Speaker 2: are covered by the networks. It's really just the demand
- 11:28Speaker 2: that's going to kill the road trip. And I made Paul,
- 11:30Speaker 2: you'd be amazed. I drove on a long weekend in
- 11:34Speaker 2: school holidays and there was no one at the interim
- 11:37Speaker 2: a charger in Scone and who was They're fine working
- 11:40Speaker 2: and there was only one person at the four Tesla
- 11:42Speaker 2: bays in Tamworth on a public holiday long weekend. So
- 11:46Speaker 2: I told the kids, we're gonna have to wait. We
- 11:48Speaker 2: might have to que YadA yaddija was it was an
- 11:50Speaker 2: absolute breeze.
- 11:50Speaker 4: It's ironic because you've prepared for it. It's the other
- 11:53Speaker 4: time there would be people there is bloody AI. But
- 11:58Speaker 4: to your point, Gordy, the test chargers, I think it's
- 12:01Speaker 4: actually a bit of advertising because a lot of people
- 12:04Speaker 4: will have gone to a shopping center and seen Tesla
- 12:06Speaker 4: charges and in the back of their mind they think
- 12:09Speaker 4: Tesla is the only electric car brand. The charges everywhere
- 12:12Speaker 4: and thing that's happening at the moment in Europe, and
- 12:17Speaker 4: literally every CEO had little running notes whenever they had
- 12:21Speaker 4: media come up to them, they had to talk about
- 12:23Speaker 4: the influx of Chinese vehicles in Europe. They are absolutely
- 12:27Speaker 4: decimating the local car market there when it comes to pricing,
- 12:30Speaker 4: and Europe is about to come out and slap some
- 12:32Speaker 4: tariffs on China for their cheap electric vehicles, and BYDS
- 12:37Speaker 4: is within a whisker of overtaking Tesla as the biggest
- 12:40Speaker 4: full electric car manufacturer globally. I think the same will
- 12:43Speaker 4: happen in Australia. While t Tesla has a great run
- 12:46Speaker 4: at the moment, ultimately the pricing is still higher than
- 12:50Speaker 4: what you would pay for a Chinese domestic market vehicle,
- 12:53Speaker 4: and I reckon we'll see the Chinese take even more
- 12:56Speaker 4: of a leap in the electric car market in Australia
- 12:58Speaker 4: pretty soon.
- 13:00Speaker 3: So they should. Really, there's a lot of good competition
- 13:02Speaker 3: out there. The Corpora is doing great stuff. I think
- 13:05Speaker 3: by d Famously is a fantastic.
- 13:09Speaker 6: What I miss there nothing I've forgotten about the drama
- 13:13Speaker 6: that started all this bullshit.
- 13:15Speaker 2: That's funny. Do you think of what happened?
- 13:17Speaker 1: There?
- 13:19Speaker 3: Are a fantastic product, and I will I will not
- 13:22Speaker 3: hear anybody looking forward to the Seal.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I am looking forward to the.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Seal, the the Dolphin, the Porpoise, the Mermaids or the
- 13:30Speaker 3: whatever the John West addition.
- 13:34Speaker 2: What do you think all of the Dolphin Sports Edition,
- 13:36Speaker 2: whatever the hell they're going to call that?
- 13:38Speaker 4: Look, I think the names are a bit silly. I
- 13:40Speaker 4: don't think they really migrate all that well to English,
- 13:43Speaker 4: but I think their cars look the Dolphin, I think
- 13:46Speaker 4: just looks a bit curious. We've got one in the
- 13:48Speaker 4: office at the moment. But I think the rest of
- 13:49Speaker 4: them look great. And I saw the what is it
- 13:52Speaker 4: the seal you.
- 13:53Speaker 1: The the SUV version looks great.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw that at the motor Show and I
- 13:57Speaker 4: thought that looked That looked fantastic. So I reckon look
- 14:00Speaker 4: that they're going to price these really sharply, and BID
- 14:03Speaker 4: has got their their act together in Australia. They're teamed
- 14:06Speaker 4: up with Eagers, who has this enormous dealership network in Australia,
- 14:09Speaker 4: and I think they are really going to kick a
- 14:12Speaker 4: massive goal in the next sort of year or so.
- 14:14Speaker 2: It does feel like they had a plan and they
- 14:16Speaker 2: realized there was a better plan, do you know what
- 14:18Speaker 2: I mean? Like whol Kmart tyront Auto my car it's
- 14:21Speaker 2: called now you know, it was a great idea in
- 14:24Speaker 2: principle on paper, but it actually would have not served
- 14:27Speaker 2: them well if they were selling in this volume they're
- 14:29Speaker 2: getting now. So the Eagers think the only thing that
- 14:31Speaker 2: got them going. I just wonder whether I wonder whether
- 14:35Speaker 2: they're pricing too much based on the market and not
- 14:38Speaker 2: based on what the cars are worth exactly. They're pricing
- 14:42Speaker 2: against MG, and MG's pricing against them when and I
- 14:44Speaker 2: think a Dolphin, what are they thirty nine eight or
- 14:47Speaker 2: something like that. I think Dolphin should be a thirty
- 14:49Speaker 2: two thirty three thousand dollars car. And if they were,
- 14:52Speaker 2: my god, it would be it would be a massive,
- 14:56Speaker 2: massive market. But I just feel like they're with obvious,
- 14:59Speaker 2: you know, smarts, they're taking advantage of the fact that
- 15:02Speaker 2: they can charge that much. But I'll go back to
- 15:05Speaker 2: charging for a minute. I charged my car for I've
- 15:08Speaker 2: got the numbers, but twenty minutes at the Tesla Tesla
- 15:11Speaker 2: station eighty something sends per killer what hour they're charging.
- 15:14Speaker 6: That's honestly, that is that, you know. I often when Paul,
- 15:18Speaker 6: I don't know what you say.
- 15:19Speaker 2: When people say how much does it cost to charge only,
- 15:21Speaker 2: I always say it's about the third of the cost of
- 15:22Speaker 2: a petrol car. If you were to use a Tesla
- 15:26Speaker 2: charging network in a public way, in a non Tesla,
- 15:30Speaker 2: you would it would not be one third. I didn't
- 15:32Speaker 2: even think it'd be half. I think it would be
- 15:34Speaker 2: at best two thirds of the cost. Because it is enormous,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and I worry that people are going to build themselves
- 15:40Speaker 2: into a world where they think that the long term
- 15:42Speaker 2: cost because everyone all these car companies. They say, oh,
- 15:44Speaker 2: but the you know, the car is expensive up front,
- 15:47Speaker 2: but the four year cost the life of the car is.
- 15:49Speaker 1: This and that.
- 15:50Speaker 3: That's what Tesla say. When you buy the car, actually
- 15:52Speaker 3: put it in writing. I will actually put it how
- 15:53Speaker 3: much they expect you do that.
- 15:54Speaker 2: With a BYD and you assume that you're going to
- 15:57Speaker 2: charge at other places. You're at the behest of Evy
- 16:00Speaker 2: charge Fox and Tesla not putting their prices up like
- 16:04Speaker 2: petrol stations do.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Well.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I mean it actually can be non financially viable to
- 16:10Speaker 2: do electric cars in a public charging way. You've got
- 16:13Speaker 2: to have your shit sorted at home, and preferably you've
- 16:17Speaker 2: got to be in the world of solo. I'm not
- 16:18Speaker 2: there yet, but I'm close. I drove my car down
- 16:21Speaker 2: to three percent battery and then charge it to one hundred,
- 16:24Speaker 2: just purely so I could get a calculation off the
- 16:26Speaker 2: wall boxes to how much it would be twenty one
- 16:28Speaker 2: dollars it cost me at home to charge. And I'm like,
- 16:31Speaker 2: there you go, that's one. That's awesome.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I tell you one thing.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Though my parents are looking at getting a Tesla. They
- 16:36Speaker 3: have an underground car park. I am praying for thermal runaway.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Come on.
- 16:42Speaker 1: As soon as that happens, I can finally get a
- 16:44Speaker 1: house in Sydney. It'll be just the best thing in
- 16:47Speaker 1: the world.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It is actually though, withithstanding your little concern for your parents,
- 16:53Speaker 2: it's actually a major issue. Yeah, Like government and other
- 16:57Speaker 2: developers are looking at not allowing them of charges in
- 17:01Speaker 2: underground car parks and that's a huge issue for the
- 17:04Speaker 2: government take up of evs because they have some vehicles
- 17:07Speaker 2: that can't be parked in open spaces because of the
- 17:10Speaker 2: gear and stuff on board or whatever. Mate, that's a
- 17:13Speaker 2: that's a big problem. I want to I don't know
- 17:15Speaker 2: that it is a big problem yet.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I was going to bring this up when when John
- 17:18Speaker 3: kddogan comes in as well, because he's like, he's got
- 17:20Speaker 3: quite a.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Bit, hasn't He found the niche on YouTube, which is
- 17:25Speaker 2: people fucking hate EV's and will listen to you talk
- 17:28Speaker 2: about that. I've watched more of his videos in the
- 17:30Speaker 2: last two months than ever because his research, his way
- 17:36Speaker 2: to articulate it, and his passion for the thing is brilliant.
- 17:39Speaker 2: And it's like, mate, he's just gone, these things are
- 17:41Speaker 2: getting such good views.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to keep going with that That's a
- 17:45Speaker 3: good thing about John though, like whether you agree or disagree,
- 17:47Speaker 3: Like he's got a well thought out argument.
- 17:50Speaker 1: But yeah, like Paul's got.
- 17:52Speaker 3: You're pretty much responsible for putting charges in your apartment building,
- 17:58Speaker 3: which I'm assuming has got underground parks.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Yeah, so we actually rolled out the full charging infrastructure
- 18:05Speaker 4: at our apartment building. We've since sold that apartment But
- 18:08Speaker 4: what actually happened after that, we got a letter from
- 18:13Speaker 4: the Body Corporate Group for that apartment building and seventy
- 18:16Speaker 4: five other apartment buildings in the city, and it was
- 18:19Speaker 4: a subsidiary of Central Equity, so a big company. They've
- 18:23Speaker 4: actually recommended to all of the owner's corporations that they
- 18:26Speaker 4: do not install any EV charging equipment in any of
- 18:30Speaker 4: these buildings until the government releases some kind of regulations
- 18:34Speaker 4: around it. And it's a real tricky one because the
- 18:38Speaker 4: government's regulations aren't going to be able to change the
- 18:41Speaker 4: fact that if you get a vehicle with a lithium
- 18:44Speaker 4: ion battery catch fire and it gets thermal runaway, that
- 18:47Speaker 4: it is very difficult to put out, So their regulations
- 18:51Speaker 4: aren't going to mean anything. And if the regulations are
- 18:53Speaker 4: that you have to have bigger water supplies in apartments.
- 18:58Speaker 4: It is going to be so cost prohibitive. Anyone that's
- 19:01Speaker 4: ever dealt with the fire services company will know that
- 19:04Speaker 4: doing every the most minor thing is astronomically expensive. To
- 19:08Speaker 4: just totally change pump systems, piping and water supplies within
- 19:12Speaker 4: apartment buildings, it would be impossibly cost prohibitive for some
- 19:16Speaker 4: of these minus corporations who are dealing with huge increases
- 19:20Speaker 4: in insurance costs and the like. So I just don't
- 19:23Speaker 4: see it happening.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, there was something one of my neighbors
- 19:26Speaker 1: works for, like the New South Wales Fire Safety blah
- 19:28Speaker 1: blah blah is getting on our local community Facebook page
- 19:33Speaker 1: saying yeah, saying, look, they shouldn't be installed underground.
- 19:36Speaker 3: They shouldn't be there. We've been warned there is. It's
- 19:39Speaker 3: basically really tricky at the moment for fire departments to
- 19:43Speaker 3: put these sorts of fires out.
- 19:45Speaker 2: My concern is that it's kind of like the scooter
- 19:48Speaker 2: and bike drama that's going on at the moment. It's
- 19:50Speaker 2: a legitimate problem, but it's a legitimate problem because of
- 19:53Speaker 2: idiots who buy cheap shit on Ali Barber or wish
- 19:57Speaker 2: dot com and it doesn't pass Australian safe regulations. You
- 20:00Speaker 2: buy an electric scooter or a bike it Harvey's or JB's,
- 20:04Speaker 2: I'm telling you it's not going to explode as long
- 20:05Speaker 2: as you use the included charger in the same bike. Right.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But you get someone who buys one off in China
- 20:13Speaker 2: and they plug in random charger into it, or it
- 20:15Speaker 2: just doesn't have a battery management system, that's what's exploding.
- 20:17Speaker 2: My concern is that we actually haven't had that I
- 20:20Speaker 2: know of proven fire where it was the car at
- 20:24Speaker 2: fault or an authorized charger. Right. So the wall box
- 20:28Speaker 2: that I bought in Australia and the qualified electrician I
- 20:33Speaker 2: had to install it, and a car that is clearly
- 20:35Speaker 2: meeting regulations, I'm pretty confident that mine is not going
- 20:38Speaker 2: to just go up in flames. But I joined early on,
- 20:42Speaker 2: when I thought I was going to get an Atto three.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I joined all the Facebook groups. The number of people
- 20:47Speaker 2: in those groups that are just telling each other where
- 20:49Speaker 2: to get these wall boxes, these charging cables and all
- 20:52Speaker 2: this shit. It's like, mate, does any of this meat
- 20:54Speaker 2: Australian standards? And that is where it's all going to
- 20:57Speaker 2: come undone. I don't reckon it'll be the charger. I
- 20:59Speaker 2: don't reckon it the car I reckon. People have cheap
- 21:01Speaker 2: shit cables in between, and that kind of stuff.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Happens with phones as well.
- 21:06Speaker 2: That's right, Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 21:07Speaker 1: That's probably what caused that, for instance, to backpack a fire, right.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Exactly, it would have been a bike that was absolutely
- 21:15Speaker 2: not bought a Jbhifi. It would have been plugged into
- 21:19Speaker 2: a charger and left on and it didn't have a
- 21:20Speaker 2: battery management system, and up it went. But how do
- 21:23Speaker 2: you You can't regulate that because you can't regulate what's
- 21:26Speaker 2: coming into the country in the post. So we are
- 21:29Speaker 2: in a situation where you have actually have to regulate
- 21:31Speaker 2: to assume that shit's going to go on. And therefore,
- 21:35Speaker 2: you know, basement installs may be a problematic thing for buildings,
- 21:39Speaker 2: and that obviously causes a whole raft of other issues
- 21:42Speaker 2: when you try and move towards evs with off street
- 21:44Speaker 2: parking and all that kind of joy.
- 21:45Speaker 3: It's an interesting one because it's so rare. It is
- 21:48Speaker 3: kind of rare, like an EV fire, but it also
- 21:50Speaker 3: doesn't mean it's not.
- 21:51Speaker 2: If you read a photo expert, that's that's the thing.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He's unpacked every single one, and it's been brilliant like
- 21:59Speaker 2: that one of the Paul Did you see that, it's
- 22:01Speaker 2: like a fucking car.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 2: We wasn't in the car.
- 22:04Speaker 4: For fuck's sake. What are we doing?
- 22:06Speaker 1: Come down, Trevor Jeans. It's annoying. You're going to have
- 22:09Speaker 1: a heart attack. I thought, just just calm down. I'm
- 22:13Speaker 1: worried about your health. How is that going, by the way, No,
- 22:17Speaker 1: not good. Did you get that thing fixed on your
- 22:18Speaker 1: bum na?
- 22:19Speaker 2: I'm just gonna leave it there. No one's looking at
- 22:21Speaker 2: it anyway.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Speaking of things that people are looking at, we we
- 22:28Speaker 4: were watching your stories when you're over at the iPhone launch.
- 22:31Speaker 4: A couple of questions I had. Did they say anything
- 22:35Speaker 4: about the Apple car that they're sort of rumored to
- 22:37Speaker 4: be working on.
- 22:38Speaker 2: No, nothing at all, And I'll tell you why, because
- 22:40Speaker 2: they're not working on a car, the Apple car. Do
- 22:43Speaker 2: you remember the rooms about Apple TV an Apple Physical
- 22:46Speaker 2: TV back in the day. It was like during the
- 22:47Speaker 2: time of the Steve John's biography. I reckon what happened
- 22:50Speaker 2: back then is exactly what's happening now with the car.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I reckon they did.
- 22:53Speaker 2: They did fuck around and look at a TV and
- 22:55Speaker 2: they did the business case, and they went, why would
- 22:57Speaker 2: we build, you know, TVs try and get two percent
- 23:01Speaker 2: market share when we could build a little box that
- 23:04Speaker 2: any TV could run. And then it evolved into an app. Right,
- 23:07Speaker 2: So the car, I've got no doubt they thought about
- 23:09Speaker 2: a car, They looked at the man all that stuff,
- 23:10Speaker 2: and then they went, you know what, why don't we
- 23:12Speaker 2: just own the digital infotainment of cars? And that's when
- 23:16Speaker 2: they Earlier this year they announced that the next iterations
- 23:19Speaker 2: of Apple Car Play would in fact be your dashboard,
- 23:23Speaker 2: not just your infotainment, but you're interconnectivity with the car.
- 23:27Speaker 2: So they'll be widgets for the air conditioning and all
- 23:29Speaker 2: that shit. And I'm sure BMW will be first with this,
- 23:32Speaker 2: as they were with a lot of the stuff. So
- 23:33Speaker 2: the next iteration, and I think the final iteration for
- 23:36Speaker 2: the Apple car is just that your phone plugged into
- 23:39Speaker 2: the car or wirelessly. More importantly, will be what you
- 23:42Speaker 2: see in front of you. It'll all be you and
- 23:45Speaker 2: customized and personalized, and it'll be another battle of the
- 23:48Speaker 2: cars versus you know, human beings wanting to run their
- 23:51Speaker 2: own infosystems. But yeah, I don't think there'll be a
- 23:53Speaker 2: physical car in the same way that Dyson looked at
- 23:56Speaker 2: a car but publicly went we're not going to do it.
- 23:59Speaker 1: They did kind of make a concept though, I've.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Got no doubt Apple made a concept, but they're not
- 24:04Speaker 2: going to release that. They never would, but Dyson. I
- 24:05Speaker 2: thought it was fucking really cool that Dyson went, here's
- 24:07Speaker 2: what we did. It didn't We didn't. We couldn't make
- 24:10Speaker 2: it work.
- 24:11Speaker 3: It's interesting because you always hear like little bits that oh,
- 24:13Speaker 3: they're in talks with Kia, or they're in talks with
- 24:16Speaker 3: Yun Day and blah blah blah blahlah. But then but
- 24:19Speaker 3: they are well, but also what if they're they do
- 24:23Speaker 3: build a car that's an absolute premium product that's not
- 24:26Speaker 3: necessarily going to be for main use.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I mean, I could be completely wrong, obviously, but I
- 24:30Speaker 2: just think that every time you know some of the rumors,
- 24:34Speaker 2: the way you get to get a great story is
- 24:35Speaker 2: you hear a rumor at a bar or something. Right,
- 24:37Speaker 2: you hear a bloke from Apple Talk and a bloke
- 24:39Speaker 2: at Hoyonda, and you go, hang on a minute, what
- 24:40Speaker 2: the fuck's going on here? Well, actually, they were just
- 24:43Speaker 2: talking about how they're introducing a new, better Ultra wideband
- 24:46Speaker 2: chip into the next generation iPhones, which will mean that
- 24:48Speaker 2: you can unlock your car in an even better way
- 24:51Speaker 2: from your phone and all. Like, it's just they're just
- 24:53Speaker 2: improving all of the ways we use our phone today,
- 24:56Speaker 2: like unlocking your car, entering the car, starting the car,
- 24:58Speaker 2: and using the photament and dashboard. They're just going to
- 25:01Speaker 2: make all of that better. And for that reason, of course,
- 25:04Speaker 2: they're working with all the car companies, but you know,
- 25:06Speaker 2: some of them might be talking to them, but some
- 25:08Speaker 2: of them might have breached really bad embargoes or NBA's
- 25:12Speaker 2: by telling people they were working together. But yeah, I
- 25:15Speaker 2: don't think a physical, real vehicle will come.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Well. I actually that brings me on to the next
- 25:21Speaker 4: thing I was going to ask, which is the new
- 25:23Speaker 4: version of Apple car Play. I've just upgraded to iOS seventeen,
- 25:27Speaker 4: and I really like that new layout and the way
- 25:30Speaker 4: that it's set up. And I really also like the
- 25:33Speaker 4: concept of them ditching a manufacturer infotainment system because they're
- 25:38Speaker 4: just most of them are just a pile of shit
- 25:40Speaker 4: and just very poor to use. And you get in
- 25:43Speaker 4: the car, you plug your phone up, the only thing
- 25:46Speaker 4: you touch is car Play, So why not just make
- 25:49Speaker 4: the whole thing car play. Do you reckon that that
- 25:52Speaker 4: means cars will become more secure or do you think
- 25:55Speaker 4: that they will become more prone to hacking? A tense
- 26:00Speaker 4: if it all is through the one sort of software stack.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Great question. I reckon more secure because I think Apple
- 26:07Speaker 2: is so ridiculously crazy about privacy that they don't want
- 26:12Speaker 2: to be associated with the potential for any you know,
- 26:15Speaker 2: interactivity from the outside with a car. So my guess
- 26:19Speaker 2: is more secure, I reckon in the long run with
- 26:21Speaker 2: that kind of setup. And I think it's fascinating. You're
- 26:24Speaker 2: right with like info tament and may. I read every
- 26:27Speaker 2: review of the Cooper Born. I watched every video, and
- 26:29Speaker 2: one of the things that stood out to me a
- 26:30Speaker 2: couple of times was people bagging that it didn't have
- 26:33Speaker 2: sat NAV, Like, it didn't have a sat NAV built in?
- 26:36Speaker 2: What the fuck do I want a sat Nay for no,
- 26:37Speaker 2: you don't one never touched. I've been driving review cards
- 26:40Speaker 2: for years. I've probably twice used the built in sat NAV,
- 26:44Speaker 2: and that was probably because I hadn't pared my phone
- 26:46Speaker 2: and was in a hurry.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And then, yeah, manufacturing navigation is always And in.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Fact, it was only two nights ago that I found
- 26:54Speaker 2: out that when I'm using Apple CarPlay in my Coupra
- 26:57Speaker 2: and I'm using Apple Maps, the guide, it's the arrow
- 27:00Speaker 2: navigation appears on the fucking instrument cluster. I have no idea.
- 27:04Speaker 2: That's like a BMW style thing. And I'm like, this
- 27:06Speaker 2: is shit hot. That's the kind of stuff that that
- 27:09Speaker 2: the car companies are doing that just makes it a
- 27:12Speaker 2: better user experience for the average Joe. And I think,
- 27:15Speaker 2: like I think I spoke about this before, my biggest
- 27:17Speaker 2: bugbear is Kia and Hyundai not allowing their most premium
- 27:21Speaker 2: vehicles to have wireless Apple car Play. And it's because
- 27:24Speaker 2: they don't.
- 27:25Speaker 1: There is something going on there though, right.
- 27:27Speaker 2: I've spoken to them and they said to me, basically,
- 27:31Speaker 2: Apple and Google require that if you're using wireless Apple
- 27:35Speaker 2: carp Play and you get in the car, that when
- 27:36Speaker 2: you turn the car on, car Play comes up, because
- 27:38Speaker 2: that's obviously what you wanted as a human. But Kia
- 27:41Speaker 2: and Hyundai want you to first see their beautiful, you know,
- 27:45Speaker 2: million dollar infotainment system and then click Apple Carpet.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, but you can still do that, like my car's
- 27:50Speaker 3: got wireless and everything comes up and you just choose
- 27:53Speaker 3: the box.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but it comes up by default with car play.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Yeah, but as a choose able icon, and that's what
- 27:58Speaker 3: he doesn't want. That's the oddest detail ever though. Really
- 28:01Speaker 3: that's what it boils down.
- 28:03Speaker 2: They want you to know they've got their own infotainment
- 28:05Speaker 2: system and they've spent so much time and effort and
- 28:08Speaker 2: energy on the UI and it's nice, it's probably one
- 28:11Speaker 2: of the better ones out there.
- 28:12Speaker 1: But still see all that it would just come up
- 28:13Speaker 1: as an icon though.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Could you imagine spending seventy thousand dollars on a Keya
- 28:17Speaker 2: Carnival Platinum Edition right now and not having wireless CarPlay.
- 28:21Speaker 2: That is absolutely wild to me.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I don't know about that one though. I feel like
- 28:26Speaker 1: it's just all it would be, would be an icon
- 28:28Speaker 1: coming up on the on their screen.
- 28:30Speaker 2: That it would be. That's what Kia wants. But Apple
- 28:33Speaker 2: and Google, the way it works, it just comes up
- 28:35Speaker 2: by default. So it's it's basically a stalemate in the
- 28:38Speaker 2: negotiating table. And because Google and Apple have held their
- 28:42Speaker 2: ground with every other manufacturer like BMW on everyone, they
- 28:46Speaker 2: have to hold their ground with Kia and Hyunda.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Hmmm, that's crazy, but I just think that that is
- 28:51Speaker 4: the dumbest move, because it totally boggles my mind that
- 28:55Speaker 4: you can get into a base model Yuda where wireless
- 28:57Speaker 4: car play works perfectly fine, and then the or you
- 29:00Speaker 4: spend the less features you get the other interesting one
- 29:04Speaker 4: as well. I heard on the grapevine that they were
- 29:07Speaker 4: having issues with the new iPhones, the fifteens overheating, and
- 29:11Speaker 4: I think it was specifically with BMW wireless chargers. Is
- 29:16Speaker 4: that a phone issue or is that a wireless charging
- 29:19Speaker 4: protocol issue?
- 29:20Speaker 2: I don't think it is specific to the wireless chargers.
- 29:23Speaker 2: So I've been using the iPhone fifteen since the date
- 29:25Speaker 2: was announced, so like a week and a half before
- 29:28Speaker 2: it was released. I've been using for a long time.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But well just timescale mate, Okay, it's important to note,
- 29:34Speaker 2: and I've never had the issue, right. So what they
- 29:36Speaker 2: determined was that there's a couple of factors. One is
- 29:39Speaker 2: if you do you know, when you set up a
- 29:41Speaker 2: new phone, says do you want to restore via the
- 29:42Speaker 2: cloud or direct If you use the cloud and you've
- 29:46Speaker 2: got a decent amount of you know, photos and storage
- 29:48Speaker 2: and everything in the cloud, and you're using apps like
- 29:52Speaker 2: Uber and Instagram for some reason, there was a couple
- 29:54Speaker 2: of apps they isolated, those things were all just chewing
- 29:58Speaker 2: it in the background. The cloud was continued to back
- 30:00Speaker 2: up while you went away and used the phone, and
- 30:02Speaker 2: all those things combined was just drawing the power and
- 30:05Speaker 2: heating it up. So I think, if they haven't already,
- 30:07Speaker 2: they're putting out a software update and that will avoid
- 30:11Speaker 2: the issue. I think when you the BNW wireless charging issue,
- 30:15Speaker 2: I think if you're in that situation where you're backing
- 30:17Speaker 2: up from the cloud and stuff and then you're charging,
- 30:19Speaker 2: it's always going to Like if you have any iPhone
- 30:22Speaker 2: in any car, if you're running wireless car play ways
- 30:27Speaker 2: and you're wireless charging, you've got heat from the charge,
- 30:31Speaker 2: You've got heats from the GPS and of the broadcast
- 30:33Speaker 2: of the signal. It's gonna overheat. It's gonna get hot.
- 30:35Speaker 2: So there's only so much they can do to control that.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I always find though, when you've got an iPhone and
- 30:40Speaker 1: a wireless charger and you're using wireless car plays there's
- 30:45Speaker 1: always interruptions.
- 30:46Speaker 2: The tolls interrupted. Do you notice that I've not worked
- 30:50Speaker 2: it out, But you're a wireless Apple car play and
- 30:51Speaker 2: you go through any toll gate, it just skips the music.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Ah.
- 30:56Speaker 4: You know what it also does if you're on a
- 30:57Speaker 4: phone call in some cars, when it does when you
- 31:01Speaker 4: go through the gantry and it has that half a
- 31:03Speaker 4: second skip, it actually introduces lag in the phone call,
- 31:08Speaker 4: so you end up talking over the other person because
- 31:11Speaker 4: their signal is coming in half a second later. It
- 31:13Speaker 4: is the most curious thing in the world. I've noticed
- 31:15Speaker 4: it a few times now when I've been driving back
- 31:17Speaker 4: on a phone call and you go through a gantry,
- 31:20Speaker 4: and one time was when I was doing a radio interview.
- 31:23Speaker 2: So you end up with this horrible outcome.
- 31:25Speaker 4: It was horrific. So I think that's fixed now because
- 31:28Speaker 4: I haven't had that recently, But that is a weird one.
- 31:30Speaker 4: It actually raises the question how much is that shit
- 31:34Speaker 4: emitting If it's able to interrupt your phone while you're
- 31:37Speaker 4: driving through.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Have you ever put your E tag, you know, not
- 31:41Speaker 2: on the wind screen and just left or whatever. Yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 2: it works, it's it's it's scanning. Let'll tell you.
- 31:48Speaker 4: It's actually fun to measure the level of output from
- 31:51Speaker 4: those gantries, just to see if it's actually frying your brain.
- 31:55Speaker 2: You're getting the equipment and standing in the middle of
- 31:57Speaker 2: the motorway made for great social con I'll tell you
- 32:00Speaker 2: one thing I did discover recently on that trip. There's
- 32:04Speaker 2: a new when we're talking wiless charging, there's a new
- 32:07Speaker 2: wireless charging standard coming. So right now the standard is
- 32:10Speaker 2: called chea spelled QI, and you will see this little
- 32:13Speaker 2: logo on all the cars when it's whiles charging cheap
- 32:16Speaker 2: annoyingly for cars because we all know there's like a
- 32:18Speaker 2: six year lead time on these things, this will be
- 32:19Speaker 2: a while off. But the new standard is basically mag
- 32:22Speaker 2: safe for everyone. So you know Apple's mag Safe, where
- 32:25Speaker 2: you put your phone on something and it magnetically attaches,
- 32:28Speaker 2: so it's sent. The reason for that is it's centers
- 32:30Speaker 2: so that it's the most optimum charging, right, So all
- 32:33Speaker 2: phones will get and we're probably talking next year's Samsung's
- 32:36Speaker 2: or maybe the year after, we'll get this GI two,
- 32:38Speaker 2: which is stupidly what it's going to be called. It
- 32:40Speaker 2: should be called magnetic attached or something. But here's the
- 32:44Speaker 2: benefit of that for cars, and I think it's better
- 32:46Speaker 2: in cars than any other use case. When BMW and
- 32:50Speaker 2: everyone else introduces G two, you won't have this situation
- 32:53Speaker 2: where you've got to fucking find that spot and if
- 32:56Speaker 2: you heavily break in the phone moves, it stops charging.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I mean it's great to have the big phone, which
- 33:01Speaker 2: is normally the one that's all the charges are made for.
- 33:04Speaker 2: But if you've got a smaller phone, it's sometimes hard
- 33:07Speaker 2: to find that sweet spot. So that what the magnetic
- 33:09Speaker 2: attach will be a game changer for cars in six years.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Also, just checking Trevor, is it is it called the
- 33:18Speaker 4: g spot.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Whatever?
- 33:21Speaker 1: Wouldn't know. Actually I found out. We're trying to still
- 33:24Speaker 1: look for it.
- 33:27Speaker 6: Yeah, see Gordy's filthy that you came up with that one. No,
- 33:31Speaker 6: it's a good good gags in your contract that you
- 33:33Speaker 6: do all the gags.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Leave the jokes to me champions.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I seen some of those lately. Oh hey,
- 33:43Speaker 3: this is just completely off topic to Tesla semi right,
- 33:46Speaker 3: the big, big, big trucks. Did you see any of
- 33:48Speaker 3: them when you're over there?
- 33:49Speaker 2: Not on the road? One at the Peterson Museum. Yeah,
- 33:52Speaker 2: and I haven't seen one on the road.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Because there've been anyone to love by Pepsi at the moment, right.
- 33:56Speaker 2: A lot, I don't know what's a lot?
- 34:00Speaker 6: Does he he drove one? You know how he's crappy
- 34:04Speaker 6: Kasha whatever it is yeah, that one.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Oh, he's driven pretty much every time he drove the roadster,
- 34:09Speaker 2: but he drove the truck and it's funny you watch
- 34:11Speaker 2: him come out of this this lot and you can
- 34:13Speaker 2: basically hear the suspension make noises when as it goes
- 34:17Speaker 2: over a very small gutter and the comments are whild
- 34:19Speaker 2: It's like that doesn't sound good, and yeah, it's not
- 34:22Speaker 2: a good look, but I mean it's an exciting thing.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I'm more interested. Have you seen the Edison truck guy
- 34:26Speaker 2: in Canada? No, No, you should look him up here.
- 34:30Speaker 2: He's created he's you know, typical Canadian, but he's very
- 34:33Speaker 2: very green. He's got this plan to be in all Canadian.
- 34:35Speaker 2: But he's building this truck called the Edison Truck. And
- 34:38Speaker 2: it doesn't look like a tesla at all. Right, it
- 34:41Speaker 2: looks like a Bedford from nineteen fifty. But it's got
- 34:44Speaker 2: a diesel generator in front of the cab, so it's
- 34:47Speaker 2: got like, it's not a cab over it's you know,
- 34:49Speaker 2: a big, big nose style and all that's cool, but
- 34:52Speaker 2: a big diesel generator so that it's like a Chevy
- 34:55Speaker 2: Vault or a Holding Vaults. It can charge the battery
- 34:57Speaker 2: as it goes so he can get more range. And
- 35:00Speaker 2: the thing is he's built this thing to a point
- 35:02Speaker 2: where every part is obtainable essentially, you know from Super
- 35:06Speaker 2: g Bordo. Like every bolt, every suspension, every coil, everything
- 35:11Speaker 2: is just stuff that you can buy. He looked at
- 35:14Speaker 2: the headlight. It was like one hundred dollars and it's
- 35:16Speaker 2: a thousand bucks for a Mac headlight. So he's kind
- 35:18Speaker 2: of building this people's electric truck. Took it to a
- 35:22Speaker 2: show recent It's really cool.
- 35:23Speaker 4: You should.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the original version, and he's made a modern money.
- 35:28Speaker 2: He's pretty big on TikTok. I'll send you both the
- 35:30Speaker 2: link at some point. Yeah, it's really cool. I mean,
- 35:33Speaker 2: it's just cool to see people mucking around and kind
- 35:35Speaker 2: of innovating in that space because it is a bit
- 35:38Speaker 2: head zone.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Because yeah, I don't know if you saw recently, some
- 35:41Speaker 4: bloke got a small dent in his Rivian. I guess
- 35:45Speaker 4: it's like a single cast or something like that. They
- 35:48Speaker 4: it was thousands and thousands of dollars to fix. And
- 35:51Speaker 4: I think a lot of new cars these days, they're
- 35:54Speaker 4: expensive to buy, they're expensive to ensure, and then when
- 35:57Speaker 4: you have an accident, they are out rape justly expensive
- 36:00Speaker 4: to fix. And I've just imagined in ten years time
- 36:03Speaker 4: when someone owns one of these secondhand it's it's just
- 36:06Speaker 4: going to be a throwaway item that's just too too
- 36:08Speaker 4: cost prohibitive to actually fix.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Can you send that to Paul because I don't have
- 36:12Speaker 5: his number? What a little bitch, bitch send it to Paul.
- 36:16Speaker 5: I'm not doing that, Edison Motors, No one cares. I
- 36:20Speaker 5: just Google imaged it and it really wasn't that impressive,
- 36:22Speaker 5: And I just like.
- 36:23Speaker 2: No, it's an unimpressive looking thing, one hundred percent. But
- 36:25Speaker 2: when you when Paul deep dives into that TikTok account,
- 36:28Speaker 2: he's going to really He's going to really.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Yeah right, sure, sure it.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Does look interesting. I think it's it's a great concept.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he's that's that's a very diplomat. It looks like
- 36:43Speaker 1: absolute showers a sympathy.
- 36:45Speaker 4: It. Actually, it looks really interesting and.
- 36:48Speaker 2: That's the production well, the concept version.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Yeah, No, I think it's I think it's interesting.
- 36:54Speaker 2: That is a pretty pretty solid batter way. Is it
- 36:56Speaker 2: really very cool?
- 36:57Speaker 4: Fuck?
- 37:00Speaker 1: Have you been cruising for bitches in the new Coopra Stillborn?
- 37:04Speaker 2: I've had the car a month and a half. My
- 37:07Speaker 2: wife hasn't even sat in it. Yeah right, because so
- 37:12Speaker 2: she took the piece out of me as a midlife
- 37:13Speaker 2: crisis car. For the three or four months I had
- 37:15Speaker 2: to wait for it, and we had to go down
- 37:17Speaker 2: to Saint Leonard's at one point and we were early,
- 37:19Speaker 2: so we stopped at the dealer and I wanted to
- 37:20Speaker 2: show my sixteen year old car and stuff, and so
- 37:23Speaker 2: she refused to come into the dealership. But why we
- 37:25Speaker 2: convinced to come in and just sit down and wait.
- 37:27Speaker 2: She had a look at the car. She's like, you
- 37:29Speaker 2: should have got in that fucking color and all this
- 37:30Speaker 2: kind of stuff. Then she sits in the back and
- 37:32Speaker 2: she goes, she's only got four seats, and I went, yep,
- 37:35Speaker 2: it's only got four seats. And she doesn't know that's
- 37:37Speaker 2: an option that I talked because it's the interior pack.
- 37:40Speaker 2: And she goes, we've got three kids, and I went,
- 37:42Speaker 2: when was the last time all five of us got
- 37:45Speaker 2: in our Mazda two. Okay, we own a fucking key
- 37:48Speaker 2: a carnival for Christ's sake.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 37:51Speaker 2: I am in massive trouble for buying a four seater
- 37:54Speaker 2: for a five family.
- 37:57Speaker 3: I feel like it's only a matter of time before
- 38:00Speaker 3: or your wife leaves you and you're stuck with your
- 38:03Speaker 3: robots and your bloody all this tech crap. You're in fact,
- 38:07Speaker 3: you'll probably come out as a robosexual.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Look, I'm not going to comment on whether or not
- 38:12Speaker 2: that'll be an exciting time for me. But we're happily married,
- 38:16Speaker 2: thank you, and I don't see that changing while ever.
- 38:19Speaker 2: The kids are with us, and she keeps saying the
- 38:20Speaker 2: kids are going to stay with us forever, so that
- 38:22Speaker 2: maybe that's the only.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Thing I hope I've got. This is Sydney.
- 38:25Speaker 1: We need a place to live.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Well, I thank you. That's the hard thing, you know.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Like I got a kid who's getting his l's getting
- 38:31Speaker 2: his peas in two months. Like I'm old, Like I'm
- 38:35Speaker 2: he's in year twelve. Now, I'm an old man.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I know you didn't need to bring your kids into it.
- 38:40Speaker 3: We can just look at you and tell you are
- 38:43Speaker 3: very old. Did he sit next to Jesus in primary school?
- 38:47Speaker 2: That's a good one. It's actually not bad.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Did you have a fuck? I would have thought I.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Would have gone just a little bit more like just
- 38:53Speaker 2: modern old. That's Jesus is just a bit too far
- 38:57Speaker 2: and you know not I go for the twenties as
- 39:00Speaker 2: opposed to the zero's.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Did you get a BJ from Dame Melly Melbup.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Wow, she wasn't putting out at the time.
- 39:11Speaker 4: He's run out of question. Question Trev. When you mentioned
- 39:15Speaker 4: that you had the iPhone before it was released, does
- 39:19Speaker 4: how does that operate? Is it similar to a press
- 39:21Speaker 4: car where they sort of send it out to you
- 39:24Speaker 4: to return it once you're done. How does all that
- 39:25Speaker 4: stuff work?
- 39:26Speaker 2: So Apple's probably the most rigid of all the companies,
- 39:29Speaker 2: and it's so good because you know what you expect.
- 39:31Speaker 2: So you go on the trip and there's normally maybe
- 39:35Speaker 2: ten people on the trip. You don't no one knows
- 39:37Speaker 2: who got the call because they don't tell you what
- 39:39Speaker 2: you're doing. You just get taken away to meetings, and
- 39:41Speaker 2: you might be taken to the iPhone meeting. So you
- 39:43Speaker 2: go to a meeting it's about the iPhone. You kind
- 39:45Speaker 2: of go, yes, I'm getting the iPhone. Then it used
- 39:48Speaker 2: to be they give it to you over there, but
- 39:49Speaker 2: these days they wait until you get back in your land.
- 39:51Speaker 2: And the career comes that Datia house with pretty much
- 39:55Speaker 2: one of everything. So I've got every version of the iPhone,
- 39:58Speaker 2: every cover and all that stuff gets sent. The watches
- 40:00Speaker 2: and everything arrived between. So you sign an agreement that
- 40:05Speaker 2: is your review Agreement NDA and everything and it has
- 40:07Speaker 2: a loan agreement. It's for for me, I can't speak
- 40:09Speaker 2: very wrong, but for me, all my all my Apple
- 40:11Speaker 2: devices are pretty much one year, so I like, I know,
- 40:15Speaker 2: And I got an email two days after receiving the
- 40:17Speaker 2: new ones from the Apple loan account that said, you've
- 40:20Speaker 2: got these these devices due back and it was all
- 40:23Speaker 2: last year's phone. So box them up and they send
- 40:26Speaker 2: a career and they take them back. So yeah, they're
- 40:28Speaker 2: very It's a great system because you know what you're
- 40:31Speaker 2: like some stuff it's like, am I keeping this?
- 40:32Speaker 4: Is this?
- 40:32Speaker 2: I've got to send this back to I need to
- 40:34Speaker 2: keep the box, like it's really annoying. So Apple stuff,
- 40:36Speaker 2: it's great. There's a shelf in my office which is
- 40:38Speaker 2: just all Apple boxes. I find the box, put the
- 40:40Speaker 2: product back in, send it back and yeah, you get
- 40:43Speaker 2: normally a year like all the You're not saying that's
- 40:46Speaker 2: the life cycle of the product, but you know, I've
- 40:47Speaker 2: got a Max Max studio and a Mac Mini and
- 40:50Speaker 2: and a laptop, and like I'll send stuff back early
- 40:52Speaker 2: because I don't need all that shit sitting around. But yeah,
- 40:55Speaker 2: it's pretty much that way, and it's it's just like cars.
- 40:57Speaker 2: You know, there's a there's a there's normally one embargo
- 41:00Speaker 2: and one kind of soft embargo. The first embargo is
- 41:03Speaker 2: normally the Tuesday. What they did this year was really annoying.
- 41:07Speaker 2: It was a Monday night of Tuesday, not a Wednesday
- 41:08Speaker 2: night embargo for the watch, the phone, and the I
- 41:11Speaker 2: can't remember what the other thing was, but three different things,
- 41:14Speaker 2: and you you know, there's only a certain number of
- 41:18Speaker 2: people to have that. And then back in Australia, all
- 41:21Speaker 2: the other journeys or anyone that didn't go to the
- 41:22Speaker 2: event will get a briefing that week and they'll probably
- 41:25Speaker 2: drop their reviews the day it comes out, so you
- 41:28Speaker 2: probably a few days after embargo, but you know, you're
- 41:30Speaker 2: still pretty early on before people get the phone.
- 41:32Speaker 3: I saw something during the week which I found really interesting.
- 41:35Speaker 3: I was probably a TikTok or something like that, but
- 41:37Speaker 3: about the there's like people at Apple that just designed
- 41:40Speaker 3: the boxes, and there's something like within like like the
- 41:45Speaker 3: psychology of you, like when you open up an Apple box,
- 41:48Speaker 3: it's supposed to it's supposed to be slow.
- 41:49Speaker 1: You know, when you it's kind of like you can't
- 41:51Speaker 1: get the thing out. Yeah, you can't higgle it. That's
- 41:53Speaker 1: supposed to be like some sort of anticipation, sort of
- 41:56Speaker 1: like similar to I don't know if you slap the
- 41:59Speaker 1: poke's and waiting for it's.
- 42:01Speaker 2: One of those mental it's like jingles and stuff like that.
- 42:04Speaker 2: There's a reason they work a certain way, Yeah, one
- 42:06Speaker 2: hundred percent because when you take when firstly it's that
- 42:08Speaker 2: slow drop of the box opening, and then the way
- 42:11Speaker 2: they choose to cover the phone, it's it's now a
- 42:14Speaker 2: white cover and appeals off just really.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Beautifully in a weird way satisfying, right, it.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Is oddly satisfying. The one if you ever get to
- 42:22Speaker 2: do it, that is probably the most amazing is their
- 42:25Speaker 2: mac what do they call it pro display or their
- 42:28Speaker 2: studio display big monitor, because it's a massive box, right,
- 42:31Speaker 2: but you open it up and there's it's all cardboard,
- 42:34Speaker 2: there's no styrofoam, there's no nothing, but the engineering inside
- 42:38Speaker 2: is such that you pull two bits of cardboard apart,
- 42:41Speaker 2: like open it like a butterfly, and the thing kind
- 42:45Speaker 2: of raises like it's fucking wild that the whole box
- 42:49Speaker 2: is a mechanism as well. Yeah, and then you know
- 42:53Speaker 2: you get this beautiful machine inside it. There's no one
- 42:55Speaker 2: else that does that, no one else.
- 42:57Speaker 5: No.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I wish they did that with cars.
- 42:59Speaker 3: I don't know how, but there's there's a couple of
- 43:01Speaker 3: people I watched that have, like, you know, will take
- 43:03Speaker 3: premium cars Bentley's or whatever.
- 43:06Speaker 1: As they get delivered to the dealership, they'll come in
- 43:09Speaker 1: some sort of you know, zipper bag.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Yeah, like a Porsche nine to eleven GT three comes
- 43:14Speaker 2: in basically a white you know, has matt suit of
- 43:18Speaker 2: its own. Yes, and you see people.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Box these things mr and all that so good.
- 43:23Speaker 2: I would have I would have happily peeled off all
- 43:26Speaker 2: the bits of plastic on my car. If they gave
- 43:28Speaker 2: me a list, I would have done.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Dealership should definitely do that because an option like there's
- 43:32Speaker 1: there's almost such an anti climax when you go pick
- 43:34Speaker 1: up a car. It's like, oh, would you like a
- 43:36Speaker 1: coffee bottle of water? Whatever.
- 43:37Speaker 3: They pretty much just flicky your keys and go, you know,
- 43:39Speaker 3: how to work the tech, Yeah, okay, see you later.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I was blown away by how much time they spent
- 43:45Speaker 2: with me on the car picking it up it was.
- 43:48Speaker 2: It was an excellent delivery because he sat me down
- 43:50Speaker 2: and he pressed every button. The only thing he didn't
- 43:52Speaker 2: tell me about was the fact that there was that
- 43:53Speaker 2: nav thing, and I don't think you knew it existed.
- 43:55Speaker 2: So he went through every setting. It was like he
- 43:57Speaker 2: wanted to set the settings up for me, and I'm like,
- 43:59Speaker 2: I actually want to do this later and I want
- 44:01Speaker 2: to choose that later. But it was good to see
- 44:03Speaker 2: it all that it was there. I thought they spent
- 44:05Speaker 2: a reasonable amount of time. I was blown away that
- 44:07Speaker 2: they don't do pre delivery at the dealership. There's just
- 44:12Speaker 2: a big fucking factory up at Mount Kringo north of
- 44:15Speaker 2: Sydney where a bunch of dealerships all under the Alto group.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Just all the cars go there and there's just a
- 44:21Speaker 2: production line of pre delivery and ceramic coating, whatever the
- 44:25Speaker 2: hell you choose to do, and then they get chipped
- 44:26Speaker 2: to the dealer basically ready to put in the showroom.
- 44:29Speaker 2: So it's changed from back when I worked to Suton
- 44:31Speaker 2: City Holden and there was pre delivery going on back
- 44:34Speaker 2: in the workshop efficiency.
- 44:36Speaker 1: I guess, well were you doing back there?
- 44:38Speaker 2: I was just the office point man. I was just
- 44:39Speaker 2: making coffees for people around and data entry. I remember
- 44:46Speaker 2: doing data entry must have just been repetitive because I
- 44:48Speaker 2: learned the number pad on the keyboard so well. Even
- 44:50Speaker 2: to this day, I can without looking, I can do
- 44:52Speaker 2: the number pad.
- 44:53Speaker 3: They were actually there was nothing there. It was just
- 44:55Speaker 3: like we need to give this like he's got special kids,
- 44:58Speaker 3: some stuff to do.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Here, you have some number It's a real job.
- 45:01Speaker 2: But I didn't even get to really drive cars around.
- 45:03Speaker 2: But you know, yeah, I thought it was cool.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I love that. You're questioning that later on in life, No,
- 45:08Speaker 1: I love it. It's like, oh wait, hey, god, this
- 45:11Speaker 1: doesn't add a sudden.
- 45:12Speaker 2: City Holding was fun fact, the first Holden dealership in
- 45:15Speaker 2: Australia to have that back then new style of the
- 45:19Speaker 2: of the rounded edge on the on the sign, the
- 45:23Speaker 2: big new weird looking signs, the ones they ended with
- 45:25Speaker 2: when that was launched. It was sometin City Holding. And
- 45:28Speaker 2: even more fun fact, all the fonts were Italic when
- 45:31Speaker 2: it first launched, and they looked at it and went, fuck,
- 45:32Speaker 2: we don't like that, and then they ripped it all
- 45:34Speaker 2: down and put it up non Italic and that was
- 45:36Speaker 2: what rolled out around Australia.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I love that. That's a fun fact to you.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Another fun fact italic font fuck bringing the content, Trev.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Now tell me.
- 45:45Speaker 1: About you, Pavelo.
- 45:46Speaker 3: What's what sort of exciting delivery stuff have you obtained
- 45:51Speaker 3: over the years.
- 45:52Speaker 4: I wish I had some fun fun facts like that.
- 45:54Speaker 2: No, actually, that's kind of as genuine as the last one.
- 46:00Speaker 4: We've got a story going live in a couple of
- 46:02Speaker 4: weeks where we drove a pair of GC three RS's
- 46:04Speaker 4: and one of the things we did as part of
- 46:06Speaker 4: that story was actually unzipping the car. So it came
- 46:09Speaker 4: to the dealer in that full sort of thing. But
- 46:14Speaker 4: the problem was we started unzipping the car, I got
- 46:17Speaker 4: to the back of it and it had a massive
- 46:19Speaker 4: dint car and the guy and I hope he didn't
- 46:24Speaker 4: actually get into trouble, but his job is checking all
- 46:27Speaker 4: the cars when they come off the trucks, and that's
- 46:29Speaker 4: the reason they actually unzip it while it's on the
- 46:31Speaker 4: truck because if it is damage, they pass on liability
- 46:34Speaker 4: to the truck driver or the trucking company. So this
- 46:39Speaker 4: was the only car in that batch that they hadn't
- 46:41Speaker 4: checked and it had massive dint in it. So yeah,
- 46:45Speaker 4: that's part of the reason they don't allow customers to
- 46:47Speaker 4: do pre delivery because they could pick up all of
- 46:49Speaker 4: this stuff and then make sure the customer actually then
- 46:53Speaker 4: takes the car away. So yeah, that was a that's
- 46:57Speaker 4: my fun fact.
- 46:58Speaker 2: So can I ask is that obviously arranged? You arrange
- 47:01Speaker 2: that with owners of the cars, because I mean that's
- 47:05Speaker 2: pretty awesome thing to be able to experience.
- 47:07Speaker 4: Yeah, these were two press cars that they were preparing
- 47:10Speaker 4: for the launch, and the story that we're doing is
- 47:12Speaker 4: that we were running the two cars in. They needed
- 47:14Speaker 4: fifteen hundred k's on them before they could exceed six
- 47:18Speaker 4: thousand rpm. So we were running the cars in doing
- 47:21Speaker 4: a country in our back drive from Melbourne to the Bend.
- 47:26Speaker 4: So these these are going to be sold to someone eventually,
- 47:29Speaker 4: but in the interim they were going to be press cars,
- 47:31Speaker 4: and you know, the owner was Push Australia the cars.
- 47:34Speaker 4: But I think just based on the process that they
- 47:38Speaker 4: went through, you also wouldn't want customers seeing that environment
- 47:43Speaker 4: because to me it was just a workshop. But to
- 47:45Speaker 4: a customer who's spending you know, these cars are now
- 47:48Speaker 4: eight hundred and fifty grand on the road. For a
- 47:50Speaker 4: customer who's spending that kind of money, they don't want
- 47:52Speaker 4: to see the back of house stuff. They just want
- 47:54Speaker 4: to turn up and car on and do all that
- 47:56Speaker 4: sort of stuff. But little do they know people are already
- 47:59Speaker 4: sat in it to take a petrol station and all
- 48:02Speaker 4: this sort of stuff. So it's quite quite a fascinating process.
- 48:04Speaker 3: How devastating would you be to pick up? Finally you
- 48:07Speaker 3: get your Porsche GT three rs and it's got a
- 48:09Speaker 3: bloody DNT in it. I remember taking my stinger to
- 48:13Speaker 3: get like a paint correction done. Shout out to I
- 48:15Speaker 3: think they're called Atlass body Works, but they had a
- 48:18Speaker 3: goal Wing three hundred sl the nineteen fifty four you
- 48:21Speaker 3: know famous thing that I think Lindsay Fox has got one.
- 48:24Speaker 3: And this thing was starting geez it was good, and
- 48:28Speaker 3: I said, wow, what's what's wrong with this car?
- 48:30Speaker 1: It's like it looks fine. Did you guys just finish it?
- 48:32Speaker 1: He goes no, no, no, Look up the back round
- 48:35Speaker 1: the back.
- 48:36Speaker 3: There was like just just devastating damage done to the
- 48:40Speaker 3: back of this.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Absolute classic car. And what had happened was the owner
- 48:44Speaker 1: of it had paid like Cathay Pacific some one of
- 48:48Speaker 1: these big airlines extra cash. Please look after this. This
- 48:52Speaker 1: is you know one of the rarest cars in the world.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Blah blah blah blah blah. And one of the one
- 48:57Speaker 1: of the straps while it was in transit in the
- 48:59Speaker 1: air had come off and bashed the car around up
- 49:03Speaker 1: the back and you just go. And they had to
- 49:06Speaker 1: foot the bill for it. Not the not the owner, sorry,
- 49:08Speaker 1: the airline had to foot the bill. Yeah. Whatever airline
- 49:12Speaker 1: that was, by the way, I don't know if it was.
- 49:14Speaker 4: It was.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I don't want to get suit again.
- 49:15Speaker 2: It was an airline.
- 49:16Speaker 1: It was an airline.
- 49:16Speaker 2: It so I feel like you're like being sued. Look,
- 49:19Speaker 2: it's bad.
- 49:19Speaker 3: You want to if I thought that we're a decorated
- 49:24Speaker 3: soldier in a Ben Robert Smith's kind of way.
- 49:29Speaker 2: It means they're paying attention.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right, they're listening. How is your performance on
- 49:35Speaker 1: the nearburg Ring? How'd you go? How'd you go in
- 49:39Speaker 1: your little Audie high car? This is the best story.
- 49:42Speaker 2: So we we were trapped in Europe. Okay, So I
- 49:45Speaker 2: book a one way flight to Berlin every year for
- 49:48Speaker 2: the big show I go to over there because I
- 49:50Speaker 2: assume the Apple of Launch is going to be the
- 49:51Speaker 2: week after an Apple will fly me from Europe to
- 49:54Speaker 2: San Francisco on their home right. So I book a
- 49:56Speaker 2: one way flight. I'm a cheapskate anyway. Then the rumors
- 49:58Speaker 2: come out the Apple event is going to a fucking
- 50:00Speaker 2: week later, and I'm saying to my cameraman Robert, we're
- 50:02Speaker 2: going to be fucked here.
- 50:03Speaker 3: This is a very long setup. I just wanted to
- 50:05Speaker 3: know about the nearby good luck.
- 50:07Speaker 2: So I'm like, what are we going to do for
- 50:08Speaker 2: a week, Because it's cheaper to stay in Europe. So
- 50:10Speaker 2: I go, mate, let's drive across to Paris, because there's
- 50:13Speaker 2: he can go to. Here's something you can do in Paris.
- 50:15Speaker 2: I said, But on the way, let's go to the
- 50:16Speaker 2: neurburg Ring. So that's me. I'm keen. I want to
- 50:19Speaker 2: do it. I look it up and there's track days,
- 50:21Speaker 2: and there's tourist days. I go, fucking beautiful. There's a
- 50:24Speaker 2: tourist day on the Tuesday. That's when we'll go excellent.
- 50:27Speaker 2: I watch every YouTube video on the newburg Green website.
- 50:29Speaker 2: It's not narrated. It's cartoons that tell you that, you know,
- 50:32Speaker 2: you got to put your indicator on, you got to
- 50:34Speaker 2: overtake on the left, you've got to obey the signs.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Whatever the fuck. You know, it's just it's really obvious.
- 50:39Speaker 2: It's very simple. So we turn up I've rented a
- 50:41Speaker 2: fucking houty just to get from Berlin to Paris, and
- 50:45Speaker 2: we turn up outside of the neurburg Ring and it's
- 50:47Speaker 2: a fucking cue. There's like a hundred cars and I'm like, wow,
- 50:50Speaker 2: this is like because I'm expecting Mount Panorama. I just
- 50:53Speaker 2: want to get on and drive around at sixty k's
- 50:55Speaker 2: an hour and experience the track. Right. But let's say
- 50:59Speaker 2: there's one hundred. Two of them are off the off
- 51:03Speaker 2: the shelf cars like my fucking Audi. The rest of
- 51:05Speaker 2: them are fucking race cars. I'm going, this doesn't feel right,
- 51:09Speaker 2: this is weird, man, And I'm like, we've got to
- 51:11Speaker 2: do it, and I've got I'm here, I've got to
- 51:13Speaker 2: do it right. And so we fucking download the app
- 51:15Speaker 2: and I put the money on and you scan a
- 51:17Speaker 2: QR code and you're on and i'd start, you know,
- 51:19Speaker 2: I give it a bit, but I'm going, like a
- 51:20Speaker 2: hundred and fucking people are just going past me at
- 51:24Speaker 2: a raider not and I'm going, oh ship, and see
- 51:27Speaker 2: I would have I would have gone right, I'll give
- 51:29Speaker 2: it a bit of clappy, but I gotta I gotta
- 51:30Speaker 2: mate with me in a passenger seat and being a
- 51:32Speaker 2: passenger with some dick in a road car gone fast
- 51:37Speaker 2: rental rental, right, and so fucking I'm driving ring Man
- 51:42Speaker 2: and I've got like the full video of I didn't
- 51:44Speaker 2: obviously post, but just so much of me going oh fuck,
- 51:47Speaker 2: where fuck? This is bad. This is not a tourist day.
- 51:50Speaker 1: This is bad.
- 51:51Speaker 2: This is this is the ship you see on YouTube.
- 51:53Speaker 6: And I realized at this point this they have track
- 51:55Speaker 6: days that are organized, you know, Porsche and shit high
- 51:58Speaker 6: at the track, But then they have these two tourist days,
- 52:00Speaker 6: which is when any dickhead with a roll cage can
- 52:03Speaker 6: come and smash it into the arm coot like you
- 52:05Speaker 6: see on fucking YouTube.
- 52:06Speaker 3: So basically it's really a free for all because you can.
- 52:10Speaker 3: It is a tourist day, so it's open. But like
- 52:13Speaker 3: the so called rules, they don't really know speed them.
- 52:15Speaker 2: It's you know, there's no posts. I expected, like bath,
- 52:18Speaker 2: let's just see one speed sign and just go. Yeah,
- 52:19Speaker 2: I'll stick around fucking one hundred and thirty hundred and
- 52:22Speaker 2: fifty on the long straight, I'll go fucking one hundred
- 52:24Speaker 2: and ninety I'll do what I can do, but on
- 52:25Speaker 2: the corners, I'm keeping it cool here brother, and I
- 52:28Speaker 2: made I'm halfway around going this is fucking bad because
- 52:31Speaker 2: there's no way off. It's twenty kilometers. You can't just
- 52:34Speaker 2: pull off, and I had to do it all.
- 52:36Speaker 4: You know, it was It was funny, Trev. I actually
- 52:41Speaker 4: just listening to you say that, I think a lot
- 52:44Speaker 4: of people don't actually know how it works, and just
- 52:47Speaker 4: to you know, you obviously can use a computer, you
- 52:50Speaker 4: can research it, but to still not know what a
- 52:53Speaker 4: tourist day is just shows you that I actually think
- 52:56Speaker 4: they need to have genuine tourist days where there is
- 52:59Speaker 4: a speed limit and you can actually just enjoy it.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Because I was the same with you, I ended up
- 53:04Speaker 4: we did a story with one of the rental car
- 53:06Speaker 4: companies and if you want to take an actual faster
- 53:09Speaker 4: car on there, the excess for some of these cars
- 53:12Speaker 4: is like thirty thousand euros and that's for like an
- 53:15Speaker 4: entry level BMW, nothing even special. And the entire time
- 53:19Speaker 4: I was on there, I was petrified that I was
- 53:22Speaker 4: going to get in the path of someone going fast
- 53:25Speaker 4: and write this car off and be up for a
- 53:27Speaker 4: fifty thousand dollars bill for a car that's worth ten grand,
- 53:30Speaker 4: and it is the most intimidating thing in the world.
- 53:33Speaker 4: And I had no interest in going back unless it
- 53:36Speaker 4: was on a closed event where you knew who was
- 53:38Speaker 4: on there and what cars are beyond there.
- 53:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, I looked up that there's a lot of
- 53:42Speaker 2: companies that will rent you essentially a car with a
- 53:44Speaker 2: roll cage, and I've been open at Tesla, and I
- 53:46Speaker 2: looked at that. I probably would do that again next time,
- 53:49Speaker 2: because at least I could go at it with a
- 53:51Speaker 2: bit of confidence and not get in people's way, because
- 53:54Speaker 2: that was the thing. I was in people's way, no doubt.
- 53:56Speaker 2: But yeah, it's a beautiful track. I really wanted to
- 54:00Speaker 2: just drive it. I just wanted to see it. And
- 54:02Speaker 2: I think that I would pay twenty bucks to if
- 54:05Speaker 2: there was a two hour window where you could go
- 54:07Speaker 2: and just experience it, I would, and I think they should.
- 54:09Speaker 2: And Mate, I posted the video knowing i'd get shit
- 54:12Speaker 2: canned for it, especially from the locals, and they're like,
- 54:14Speaker 2: there is no speed, da da da rental car company.
- 54:17Speaker 2: They're going to fuck you, They're going to bill you.
- 54:18Speaker 2: And I made I read the rental agreement afterwards because
- 54:20Speaker 2: I shit myself. Trust me, they had nothing on me
- 54:23Speaker 2: because I can't remember what the clause was, but essentially
- 54:26Speaker 2: it's only if you break the law, and I didn't
- 54:29Speaker 2: break the law, So actually it wasn't illegal to take
- 54:31Speaker 2: the rental car on it. I just I was wearing
- 54:34Speaker 2: the risk. If I did something wrong, I was fucked.
- 54:37Speaker 2: But because I'd got off and I was okay, there
- 54:40Speaker 2: was no recourse. They could take the car that already
- 54:43Speaker 2: been returned. They can't bill you for something that didn't happen,
- 54:46Speaker 2: so you know, look, I was in the way, but
- 54:50Speaker 2: it was a fucking fun experience regardless. And I anyone
- 54:53Speaker 2: that's into cars like we are, I do think it's
- 54:56Speaker 2: an awesome thing to do if you do it right,
- 54:57Speaker 2: If you go in and you do it right and
- 54:59Speaker 2: you know what you're getting for. You need to know.
- 55:01Speaker 2: You need to watch all those videos and realize it
- 55:03Speaker 2: can go wrong real quick. And there's people there with
- 55:06Speaker 2: a fucking you know, Mercedes GT Black Edition fucking flying around.
- 55:11Speaker 6: These are race cars, and it's it's wild. It is
- 55:13Speaker 6: not a Baptist tourist drive. Well, there's a choice of words.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Fucking people. I don't care whose translation, it is tourist
- 55:21Speaker 2: drive is a shit name for it.
- 55:24Speaker 4: Can we agree? Yeah?
- 55:25Speaker 2: Even though I'm a dickhead, it's a shit name for it.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 55:28Speaker 3: I think it's one of those things you genuinely want
- 55:30Speaker 3: to do, but man, like an AMG blaring past you
- 55:35Speaker 3: at two hundred k's whatever, It's just you can't have
- 55:39Speaker 3: it like that.
- 55:40Speaker 2: You know. The best thing is I got a speeding
- 55:42Speaker 2: fine in the email two days ago from somewhere near Cologne.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I was doing one hundred and ten hundred zone. Now
- 55:51Speaker 2: you've had fines here in Australia. What do you think?
- 55:53Speaker 2: Don't get in if you know what it is. How
- 55:55Speaker 2: much do you think the fine was? Gordy for one
- 55:56Speaker 2: hundred and ten hundred zone on a German auto barn
- 56:00Speaker 2: It's about three hundred here, I reckon for a hundred bucks.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a feeling it's really high, either really
- 56:06Speaker 1: low or seriously high. I'm going to say. I'm going
- 56:11Speaker 1: to say about fifteen hundred bucks. I don't know where
- 56:13Speaker 1: I've heard this before.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Twenty euros, oh get out. Yeah, I'm like I didn't
- 56:17Speaker 2: even notice that on my fucking credit card.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Fuck.
- 56:21Speaker 4: You know the thing that they do over there, which
- 56:23Speaker 4: I think is fantastic. On an auto barn, the speed
- 56:26Speaker 4: limits they have them, the fines aren't that expensive. If
- 56:30Speaker 4: you were to do the same level of speed over
- 56:33Speaker 4: the speed limit off the auto barn in a residential area,
- 56:36Speaker 4: mine is significantly higher. But what they're saying is on
- 56:39Speaker 4: the auto barn, you know, stick to the speed limit.
- 56:41Speaker 4: If you don't, it'll be a slap on the wrist
- 56:43Speaker 4: as long as long as you're not going too crazy.
- 56:45Speaker 4: But if you're in a residential area, we're going to
- 56:48Speaker 4: go to town on you. And I think that is
- 56:50Speaker 4: exactly how it should be done.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I like that.
- 56:52Speaker 1: The Germans are great drivers, like hands down.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Honestly, it was a great experience. I've driven Italian auto
- 56:58Speaker 2: strata before, but never the auto barns. And there was
- 57:01Speaker 2: a lot of roadworks, to be honest that like, we
- 57:03Speaker 2: came across roadworks a lot. Mate. We're in the left lane,
- 57:07Speaker 2: fast lane. I was one hundred and forty at one
- 57:09Speaker 2: point and man, I can't round a bend and there
- 57:11Speaker 2: was a fucking truck, you know, the big cross roadworks
- 57:14Speaker 2: on I'm like, should you have not warned me of this?
- 57:16Speaker 2: It was just there It was a bit sketchy at times,
- 57:19Speaker 2: but there was probably more roadworks than than there was
- 57:22Speaker 2: open stretches, but it was it's sometimes nice to stretch it,
- 57:25Speaker 2: like you go on fast, you pull in and Rob
- 57:28Speaker 2: was with me and he goes, why are we pulling in?
- 57:29Speaker 2: You know, wait, wait a second, and I just go
- 57:31Speaker 2: look at that, and I'm going At one point I said,
- 57:33Speaker 2: I'm just going to find out how much they're doing, right,
- 57:35Speaker 2: So I just tail them and it was two hundred
- 57:36Speaker 2: and something. I got to Titland when I'm out, but
- 57:39Speaker 2: they're flying like it's wild wild.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Well, thanks for coming to the Trevor Long Show. Everyone
- 57:47Speaker 1: you asked me.
- 57:48Speaker 2: You want me to listen to you talk?
- 57:50Speaker 4: You can trust me. No one wants that they use
- 57:53Speaker 4: it at Guantanamo Bay to get prisoners to yes my voice, no, Gordy, Okay,
- 58:02Speaker 4: I've had a cupfull of you. We got six hours
- 58:04Speaker 4: a day of him that they just played.
- 58:05Speaker 1: That's right, number one, baby, number one right across.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Who's number two?
- 58:10Speaker 1: I don't know. They're very far way down. I can't
- 58:12Speaker 1: see that far down.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Number one FM.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but hang on, no, no, no, In the afternoon,
- 58:17Speaker 1: I'm beating your mates a bloody two GB.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just gonna say, beating.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Get the fuck out rock SALTI.
- 58:25Speaker 2: Loyal mate, Sorry, pick and stick.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Anyway, it's good to see, it's.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Great to be here. Where do I send the inots?
- 58:36Speaker 4: Who's the sponsor?
- 58:37Speaker 1: How much would you?
- 58:37Speaker 4: Genuinely? Lawyers?
- 58:39Speaker 3: How much would you to our lawyers? That's right, they'll
- 58:43Speaker 3: probably wipe their ass with that one too.
- 58:45Speaker 2: Sponsors.
- 58:46Speaker 1: No, we should get a sponsor.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Probably should.
- 58:48Speaker 1: What's your business called?
- 58:49Speaker 2: Again?
- 58:50Speaker 4: G A?
- 58:52Speaker 1: Hang on? Hang on, No, I'm not being a smart ass.

- 58:55Speaker 3: You gave me a beautiful heart and an umbrella which
- 58:57Speaker 3: is in my car. I love it, wear it every day. Now,
- 59:01Speaker 3: let me think about it.
- 59:03Speaker 2: He's great because the new hat doesn't have it written
- 59:05Speaker 2: on the front.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks good.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Can I have one of those?
- 59:09Speaker 3: Okay, I've got to Actually I do. I do have
- 59:11Speaker 3: something to tell you. Your hat that you gave me.
- 59:14Speaker 3: I genuinely loved.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Right, and I wore it, the bad black one with
- 59:19Speaker 1: the metal badge and very nice right. It felt very premium,
- 59:23Speaker 1: which is surprising because it came from you. Right, So
- 59:27Speaker 1: I wore that I believe it or not, I wore
- 59:29Speaker 1: it to a gym. I was actually going to the gym.
- 59:32Speaker 6: It was the first time an em merch went to
- 59:33Speaker 6: a gym. I can tell you that I wear that
- 59:36Speaker 6: shit every day. Well, here's the thing, here's the thing.
- 59:39Speaker 6: I wore it to my country club gym, right, and
- 59:43Speaker 6: I took it off for a brief moment in time,
- 59:46Speaker 6: and I went outside and I got in the car.
- 59:48Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, bloody left the left my hat next
- 59:51Speaker 6: to the thing. All right, I'll get it tomorrow morning.

- 1:00:02Speaker 2: same hat, but with this rubber logo on the FT's
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: good and this one is called Racing Stroke.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: The color, how come you didn't get like blue red
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: like the BMW and.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: The colors of the f TM logo, which is okay,
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: it's becoming a bit racial, now, isn't it racial?
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: These are my colors of my tripe.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: What's uh?
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: What's that? Who ha run the side?
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: That's the logo.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Oh, that's the Oh, that's the business.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Put the logo on the back instead of I just
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: got smart. I just got to the point where it's like,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: you people don't want to wear your logo on their hat,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: but they don't they like to support you, right, So
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: this is a hat that you can wear without feeling
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: like you're walking around with a fucking.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: And do people indeed support you? Yeah? Sell the merch.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Merch? Do you have?

- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Some stubby holders, some key rings, some lanyards and hats
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: chopp dot, eft.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: N or com. Sorry what was it called?
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: This?

- 1:01:07Speaker 2: I nearly forgot.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: The car expert merch.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: They're focused on building their business. I'm focused on just

- 1:01:21Speaker 1: What I'm just let's I'll hook you up.

- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah. While you're looking that up, can I tell
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: you a really funny story about support and punters. It's
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: on the bottom of every article on my website. It
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: says you know you've got a little buy and says
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: buy a Trevor drink if you like this content by
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: a Trevor drink. And it's a click a button, but

- 1:01:51Speaker 2: click a button that takes you to PayPal and you
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: know you can send me money, right. I probably you
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: had like thirty people send money right you.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Like one of those three weeks ago gets out on Twitter.

- 1:02:03Speaker 2: buy me drink? Right cool? Cool cool? And then about
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: a week later Blake emails me. You go just wondering
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: if you got my donation and wondering where that goes?
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Is it for a charity or something? And I wrote
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: back and.
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: Said, mate, it's a It literally says the e f

- 1:02:49Speaker 2: is that a weird stak? Now?
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Is that a historical story?
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I should know?
