- 1:39How to Build Confidence that Lasts, Series 5,
- 1:42Show 30, Episode 5.
- 1:44Welcome, everyone, to the Inspirations for Your Life
- 1:46show.
- 1:47I am John C.
- 1:48Morley, serial entrepreneur, in case you guys did
- 1:51not know that, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:55podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 1:59lifelong learner at Montclair State University, and so
- 2:03grateful now to be a published author.
- 2:05That's right, guys.
- 2:06Confidence is something almost everyone wants, yet many
- 2:10people spend their lives waiting for it to
- 2:12magically appear.
- 2:14The truth is that lasting confidence isn't something
- 2:18you're given.
- 2:19It's something you build.
- 2:22Every promise you keep, every challenge you face,
- 2:27every lesson you learn, and every step outside
- 2:30your comfort zone strengthens your belief in yourself.
- 2:34Confidence isn't about believing you'll never fail.
- 2:38It's about knowing you'll continue growing no matter
- 2:42what happens.
- 2:43Today, I want to explore practical habits that
- 2:46help build confidence that lasts a lifetime.
- 2:51Confidence is earned.
- 2:52Confidence isn't created through wishful thinking.
- 2:55It's earned by consistently doing what you said
- 2:58you would do.
- 2:59Every commitment you honor strengthens the trust you
- 3:03have in yourself.
- 3:04Number two, action creates belief.
- 3:08The fastest way to overcome doubt is through
- 3:11action.
- 3:12Every time you take a positive step, you
- 3:14prove to yourself that you're capable of moving
- 3:18forward.
- 3:19Action turns possibility into confidence.
- 3:23Keep your promises, guys.
- 3:24The promises you make to yourself matter just
- 3:27as much as those you make to others.
- 3:29Every promise you keep strengthens your self-respect.
- 3:33Trust begins within.
- 3:36Number four, learn from failure.
- 3:38Failure isn't proof that you can't succeed.
- 3:42It's valuable feedback showing you how to improve
- 3:45every setback.
- 3:47It becomes a lesson when you choose to
- 3:50learn instead of quitting.
- 3:52Number five, celebrate progress.
- 3:54Don't wait until you've reached the finish line
- 3:57before recognizing your growth.
- 4:00Every small victory deserves appreciation because progress creates
- 4:04momentum and motivation is key.
- 4:09Number six, stay authentic.
- 4:10Real confidence comes from embracing who you are
- 4:13instead of pretending to be someone else.
- 4:16Authenticity allows your strength to shine naturally while
- 4:20giving you the freedom to continue improving.
- 4:21Number seven, believe in growth.
- 4:25Your abilities aren't fixed.
- 4:27Every new experience expands your knowledge, your skills,
- 4:31and your confidence.
- 4:33Believe that improvement is always possible.
- 4:37Number eight, improve daily.
- 4:40Small improvements made consistently create extraordinary transformation.
- 4:44Becoming just a little better every day strengthens
- 4:47your confidence because you can clearly see your
- 4:49own progress.
- 4:50Number nine, face discomfort.
- 4:54Growth always begins outside your comfort zone.
- 4:57I've said this before.
- 4:58Every uncomfortable situation you overcome expands your confidence
- 5:02and prepares you for greater opportunities ahead.
- 5:05Number 10, confidence grows slowly.
- 5:09Lasting confidence isn't built overnight.
- 5:12It develops through repeated experiences, consistent effort, and
- 5:15patient persistence.
- 5:17Trust the process and allow confidence to grow
- 5:19naturally.
- 5:21Number 11, build self-respect.
- 5:24Self-respect comes from living according to your
- 5:27values and honoring your commitments.
- 5:30The more integrity you demonstrate, the more confidence
- 5:33you develop in, well, yourself.
- 5:37Number 12, stay accountable.
- 5:40Taking responsibility for your actions strengthens your character.
- 5:44Accountability allows you to learn from every outcome
- 5:47instead of blaming circumstances of other people.
- 5:50Number 13, learn continuously.
- 5:53Knowledge creates confidence.
- 5:55Every new skill you develop expands your ability
- 5:58to solve problems and overcome challenges.
- 6:02Lifelong learning fuels lifelong confidence.
- 6:06Number 14, trust yourself.
- 6:09You've already overcome challenges that once seemed impossible.
- 6:13Remember those victories whenever doubt appears.
- 6:17Trust the experience you've earned through persistence.
- 6:21Number 15, guys, build confidence.
- 6:24Confidence grows when there's more practice, okay, because
- 6:34you prepare and you improve your abilities.
- 6:37The more naturally confidence flows, skill development creates
- 6:41lasting belief in yourself.
- 6:45I think that's important, guys.
- 6:47Number 16, stay humble.
- 6:56True confidence doesn't need to prove itself.
- 6:59Humility keeps you open to learning, growing, and
- 7:03improving without believing you've mastered everything.
- 7:06The most confident people continue listening because they
- 7:10know growth never ends.
- 7:13I think that's an important piece that a
- 7:15lot of us don't understand, okay?
- 7:18They don't understand how that works, but it's
- 7:21important.
- 7:23It's very, very important.
- 7:27And you might be saying to me, John,
- 7:29I don't quite understand it, but I can
- 7:32tell you that it definitely does work, right?
- 7:35It definitely does work.
- 7:39Number 17, focus on effort.
- 7:42While results are important, your effort is what
- 7:44you control every day.
- 7:46Giving your best builds confidence because you know
- 7:50you've done everything possible to move forward.
- 7:53Consistent effort always produces long-term rewards.
- 7:57Number 18, keep practicing, guys.
- 8:00Confidence grows through repetition.
- 8:02Every hour spent improving your skills strengthens your
- 8:06ability and reduces uncertainty.
- 8:09Practice transforms hesitation into confidence and preparation into
- 8:13performance.
- 8:15I think that's one that a lot of
- 8:17people, you know, they get off track.
- 8:18They don't understand why that's happening, but this
- 8:21is really truth, guys.
- 8:23Absolutely, absolutely, absolute truth, okay?
- 8:29We have to think about that.
- 8:36Number 19, stay positive because a positive mindset,
- 8:39ladies and gentlemen, helps you recognize possibilities.
- 8:42Instead of limitations, challenges become opportunities to grow
- 8:47rather than reasons to quit.
- 8:50Optimism doesn't ignore reality.
- 8:52It believes better outcomes are possible.
- 8:56Number 20, confidence inspires others.
- 8:59When people see someone acting with quiet confidence,
- 9:03they often feel encouraged to believe in themselves
- 9:05as well.
- 9:07Your example may give someone else the courage
- 9:10to pursue a goal they once thought, okay?
- 9:20But it felt like it was impossible, but
- 9:23it wasn't.
- 9:24Confidence has a powerful ripple effect, and I
- 9:27think if we just become aware of that
- 9:30for a moment, like, wow, this is pretty
- 9:32cool.
- 9:32This is pretty amazing.
- 9:36Build confidence.
- 9:38Build resilience.
- 9:38Confidence becomes stronger every time you recover from
- 9:41disappointment.
- 9:43Resilience teaches you that setbacks are temporary and
- 9:46that you have the strength to continue moving
- 9:48forward.
- 9:49Every recovery builds greater belief in yourself.
- 9:53So why not actually pay attention to that,
- 9:56right?
- 9:58Why not pay attention to that?
- 10:05I think that's a very important thing to
- 10:08understand, right?
- 10:16It's important to understand what can happen.
- 10:19Number 22, guys, encourage yourself.
- 10:22Your internal conversations matter.
- 10:25Replace unnecessary self-criticism with constructive encouragement that
- 10:29reminds you of your progress and potential.
- 10:32Speak to yourself with the same respect you'd
- 10:34offer someone you care about.
- 10:37Number 23, learn new skills.
- 10:39Every new skill expands your confidence because it
- 10:42proves you're capable of learning and adapting.
- 10:46Stay curious, continue growing, and never, ever stop
- 10:50challenging yourself to improve.
- 10:54Growth keeps confidence alive.
- 10:57So the question I have is why are
- 10:58so many people scared of growth?
- 11:00I'll tell you why.
- 11:02It's because people want things to be easy.
- 11:08They think that if things are difficult that
- 11:11that means it's not going to happen.
- 11:12So when things are harder, it means that
- 11:16you're learning something.
- 11:21You are learning something.
- 11:22And if you're learning something, it's going to
- 11:25stick.
- 11:26And guess what?
- 11:26It's going to be easier next time, okay?
- 11:30Number 24, stay committed.
- 11:34Confidence isn't maintained by occasional effort.
- 11:38It's strengthened through daily commitment to your goals
- 11:41and, of course, your values, your core values,
- 11:44that is.
- 11:44Continue showing up even when progress feels slow
- 11:47because consistency always builds strength.
- 11:51Strength.
- 11:53So there's no secret, guys, to consistency.
- 11:57Just do it.
- 12:03That's important.
- 12:09That's very important.
- 12:21I think sometimes when people see certain things,
- 12:25they wonder why.
- 12:32And I think if we wonder why, then
- 12:43we may be able to ask ourselves and
- 12:44say, wait a minute, why is this appearing
- 12:48different now?
- 12:51Right, why?
- 12:54Did something change?
- 13:00And if something changed, then maybe it's about
- 13:04a shift.
- 13:13A shift that maybe we didn't pay attention
- 13:15to.
- 13:16One that was probably there the whole time,
- 13:20but one that we missed.
- 13:28And something we missed because we weren't aware
- 13:32of the situation.
- 13:37There's so many things happening in life each
- 13:40day.
- 13:41And when we miss the intentional pieces, it's
- 13:44like, all right, what do I do now?
- 13:49What do I do now?
- 13:52Right?
- 13:53What do I do now?
- 13:54And you might be saying, John, I have
- 13:56no idea what I do now.
- 13:58But all I can tell you is now
- 14:01matters a lot.
- 14:05Now matters a lot.
- 14:13Now matters a lot.
- 14:20But what?
- 14:25And if we understand what now is, maybe
- 14:30we'll change our perspective.
- 14:33Maybe we'll change our thoughts.
- 14:36Hey, maybe we'll change our actions.
- 14:39And if we change our actions, you know
- 14:40what's going to happen?
- 14:41We're going to indeed affect our results.
- 14:43And that is what we want, isn't it?
- 14:45Sure it is.
- 14:48But when people fail, they think that's licensed
- 14:52to say, OK, I'm done forever.
- 14:54You're not done forever.
- 14:56You need to change.
- 14:57You need to tweak.
- 14:58You need to retool something.
- 15:03That's it, guys.
- 15:05Retool something.
- 15:07When you retool something, you'll get a completely
- 15:10different perspective.
- 15:17A completely different perspective.
- 15:22And maybe you're going to say to me,
- 15:24John, I don't quite understand.
- 15:30The more, ladies and gentlemen, that we become
- 15:32aware of something, the more that we are
- 15:41able to make better decisions, the more that
- 15:46we're able to understand, the more that we're
- 15:49able to dismiss confusion, the more that we
- 15:55can appreciate where we're coming from at the
- 15:58current moment.
- 16:00Number 25, guys, progress creates confidence.
- 16:05It sure does.
- 16:07It creates confidence every single day of our
- 16:10life.
- 16:14Every single day, it creates confidence.
- 16:20And that confidence is something that hopefully will
- 16:22let you build.
- 16:29It will let you build.
- 16:36It will let you build because you're going
- 16:42to be able to see something from a
- 16:45different angle.
- 16:46Let me give you an example.
- 16:49Have you ever looked at number six or
- 16:51the number nine?
- 16:52If you look at the number six that's
- 16:54on the ground, it could look like a
- 16:56nine depending on your perspective.
- 16:58If you look at the other side, it
- 16:58could look like a six depending on the
- 17:01exact angle that you're focusing on.
- 17:05Sometimes we look at one angle and we
- 17:07figure that's the only way, but that is
- 17:09not the only way.
- 17:10That might be the way for now, but
- 17:13it's not the only way.
- 17:19So just by shifting our perspective just a
- 17:21little bit, we can actually change where things
- 17:24are coming from, where they're going, where our
- 17:27thoughts are, the actions we're taking, and again,
- 17:30the outcomes that we're able to create.
- 17:33Number 25, guys, progress creates confidence.
- 17:37And looking back and seeing how far you've
- 17:40come reminds you that your hard work is
- 17:42making a difference.
- 17:44Celebrate improvement instead of chasing perfection.
- 17:47Every step forward reinforces your belief that you're
- 17:51capable of even greater things.
- 17:54Number 26, guys, never, never, never, never, never,
- 17:58never, never, never, never stop improving.
- 18:01The most competent people in life are lifelong
- 18:06learners.
- 18:07They understand there's always another level to reach
- 18:11and another lesson to discover somewhere.
- 18:14Improvement keeps confidence grounded and continually growing.
- 18:19I think if we just take that verbatim,
- 18:23OK, that's a lot, guys.
- 18:27That's a lot.
- 18:37And the more that we think about that,
- 18:38the more that life can become easier for
- 18:40us, right?
- 18:42The more it can become easier.
- 18:44Number 27, guys, please believe through your actions.
- 18:49Belief becomes stronger every time you act despite
- 18:52your uncertainty.
- 18:54Waiting until you feel completely confident often delays
- 18:57progress.
- 18:59Take the next step anyway and let your
- 19:02actions strengthen your confidence along the way.
- 19:06A lot of people I know are afraid
- 19:07to take that step.
- 19:08Now, you could be wrong with that step,
- 19:11but what if you're right?
- 19:14It'll help you grow.
- 19:16It'll help you appreciate what you're doing.
- 19:20And again, it will raise the dopamine in
- 19:23your head so you can indeed do better
- 19:26things in life.
- 19:30You can do better things in life.
- 19:37I think that's important, guys.
- 19:42You could do better things in life.
- 19:49If you could do better things in life,
- 19:51I want to ask you one thing.
- 19:53What is it you would do if you
- 19:54could do something better right now in your
- 19:56life?
- 19:57What is it?
- 20:01Is there something you want to accomplish?
- 20:05Is there something you want to set the
- 20:06record straight on?
- 20:07Like, what is it that you want?
- 20:10What do you want to change in the
- 20:12world?
- 20:13You could change anything you want.
- 20:15Number 28, guys, success follows confidence.
- 20:19Confidence encourages you to accept opportunities, overcome obstacles,
- 20:26and keep moving when others stop.
- 20:29It doesn't guarantee success, but it greatly increases
- 20:32your willingness to pursue it.
- 20:36Belief often opens doors that fear keeps closed.
- 20:43Number 29, stay courageous.
- 20:46Courage isn't the absence of fear.
- 20:48It's the willingness to keep moving despite it
- 20:50anyway.
- 20:51Every courageous decision expands your comfort zone and
- 20:55prepares you for even greater opportunities in your
- 20:58future.
- 20:59Number 30, guys, confidence changes everything.
- 21:03Confidence influences us how to think, to communicate,
- 21:09to lead, to solve all kinds of problems
- 21:12and pursue your goals.
- 21:14It affects every area of life because it
- 21:17changes how you see yourself and what's possible.
- 21:21Build it patiently, protect it daily, and allow
- 21:24it to become one of your greatest strengths.
- 21:28In closing, confidence isn't something you find.
- 21:34It's something you build through thousands of small
- 21:37decisions made consistently over time.
- 21:41Every promise you keep, every challenge you face,
- 21:46every lesson you learn, and every step outside
- 21:49your comfort zone strengthens your belief in yourself
- 21:52just a little bit more.
- 21:54The more you invest in your growth, the
- 21:57more naturally confidence becomes part of who you
- 21:59are.
- 22:00Remember that lasting confidence isn't about being perfect.
- 22:04Nope.
- 22:04It's about trusting yourself to keep learning, adapting,
- 22:09and moving forward regardless of the obstacles you
- 22:13encounter.
- 22:14Continue, my friends, building your skills.
- 22:19Owning your commitments.
- 22:22Staying humble and believing in the progress you're
- 22:25making.
- 22:26See, the confidence you build today will become
- 22:28the foundation for the opportunities you embrace tomorrow.
- 22:34And I know that's hard for a lot
- 22:36of people to realize, but this is really,
- 22:38this is the good stuff, guys.
- 22:39This is the stuff that's gonna make you
- 22:42become that great person.
- 22:45I do thank you so much for joining
- 22:47me for another amazing, outstanding episode of the
- 22:50Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 22:52Of course, you know by now I'm John
- 22:54C.
- 22:54Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 22:59podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 23:02Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner, and grateful
- 23:05now to be a published author.
- 23:09Of course, ladies and gentlemen, until next time,
- 23:11believe in your potential.
- 23:15Trust the work you're putting in.
- 23:18And remember that confidence isn't created by waiting.
- 23:21No, it's not.
- 23:22It's created by taking action, learning continuously, and
- 23:28becoming a little stronger every single day.
- 23:32Ladies and gentlemen, please keep growing, okay?
- 23:36Keep believing.
- 23:38And continue building the habits that shape an
- 23:44extraordinary life.
- 23:47But you can't do any of this, guys,
- 23:49if you're fearful, if you're worried about taking
- 23:54that step.
- 23:56The step might be uncomfortable, but that step
- 24:00might get you to the place you need
- 24:03to be to experience success.
- 24:06I have a question for all of you.
- 24:08Are you afraid to take that step right
- 24:10now?
- 24:12And if you are, I'd love to know
- 24:14why you're afraid of taking that step.
- 24:16Just answer that question for me.
- 24:18Is it because somebody put fear in you,
- 24:21false evidence appearing real?
- 24:23Is it because you're just afraid of failing?
- 24:27Is it because you're worried about being perfect?
- 24:34What's the real reason that you don't wanna
- 24:38build confidence?
- 24:40I doubt you're lazy.
- 24:42I doubt that.
- 24:46What is the real reason that you don't
- 24:48wanna build confidence?
- 24:49Why don't you wanna have an extraordinary life?
- 24:53I was talking to somebody tonight.
- 24:54It was another coach at a networking event.
- 24:58And I said to him, what type of
- 25:00coaching do you like?
- 25:01And he says, well, all parts.
- 25:02And I started asking him questions and then
- 25:04he started answering.
- 25:08But I said to him, people that don't
- 25:11wanna change shouldn't watch my show or be
- 25:14coached because they really don't wanna change.
- 25:19They're only there because they told somebody else
- 25:21they're thinking of changing.
- 25:23I think that's a big, big, big, big,
- 25:26big, big problem.
- 25:30Big problem.
- 25:37But what does it mean?
- 25:40It means that we have the power and
- 25:49that power is not a sense of entitlement.
- 25:56It's a sense of knowing.
- 25:59It's a sense of confidence.
- 26:02It's a sense of understanding.
- 26:06Derived knowledge, insights, challenges,
- 26:21frustrations, wins.
- 26:26If we look at something and we haven't
- 26:29succeeded yet and we're on that path, don't
- 26:36dare turn around.
- 26:37You're so close.
- 26:40Why would you wanna turn around?
- 26:43Why?
- 26:44I just wanna know this one question.
- 26:45Why would you not wanna build confidence?
- 26:51The only reason I could think of, I
- 26:52told you people are lazy.
- 26:54But I don't think that's the core reason.
- 26:57I think it's a sense of inner fear.
- 27:01I think it's a sense of, well, what
- 27:06happens if I fail?
- 27:08But here's the other question.
- 27:09What happens if I succeed?
- 27:11You didn't think about that.
- 27:14What happens if I succeed?
- 27:16You know, more people are fearful of not
- 27:21failure.
- 27:21They're feeling or being failure prone because they're
- 27:26worried about succeeding.
- 27:27And they're like, oh my gosh, if this
- 27:29happens, what do I do?
- 27:30Has my life changed?
- 27:32Take a breath.
- 27:34Relax.
- 27:36Enjoy the world.
- 27:38Enjoy the ride.
- 27:41Enjoy the experience of life.
- 27:44And once you've done all that, you do
- 27:47it mindfully, the world, ladies and gentlemen, can
- 27:51be your oyster.
- 27:52I hope you have a great rest of
- 27:53your day or evening.
