- 0:38All right, let's get into it. Welcome back to the Aspen world
- 0:40guys. My name is Dan.
- 0:41For anybody who doesn't know who I am.
- 0:43This is the place where we think differently daily.
- 0:45What is at my different thinkers.
- 0:46Wow. I feel like this camera is a bit
- 0:47weird. Like I'm in a Batman movie and
- 0:48it's kind of on the side. Sorry if this video is on a bit
- 0:51of an angle. Well, it's weird, isn't it?
- 0:53I feel like it is actually. I'm going to do.
- 0:54I'm going to no isn't. I'm just going mad.
- 0:57I'm absolutely going crazy. Anyway guys, good to happy here.
- 1:00I want to do this video today because I feel like there's
- 1:03there's a lot of, there's a lot of like, I don't want to call it
- 1:07like similarities between when people say that like they're
- 1:11artistic and then some people say, no, no, it's it's it's
- 1:14narcissism. But Asperger syndrome, which was
- 1:17used to be called Asperger syndrome.
- 1:19So the diagnosis that used to be called Asperger's syndrome,
- 1:21which is not basically just autism spectrum disorder, which
- 1:24refers to people with lower support needs.
- 1:25It used to be the high functioning type of autism.
- 1:28That's a terrible name in convention and we don't use
- 1:30those anymore. So this is, are you autistic or
- 1:33are you narcissistic? And there's a very, very clean
- 1:35cut line to figure out which side you're on.
- 1:38And if you're kind of like, I don't know, you trait align with
- 1:42one another. So we're going to go through it.
- 1:44We're going to talk about autism 1st and going to talk about
- 1:45narcissism. So we're going to talk about
- 1:47like how you know what autism is and what narcissism is.
- 1:50And by doing this, you'll be able to see how different they
- 1:53both are. OK.
- 1:54So looking at autism, right. I've written some notes.
- 1:57If you see me looking off screen, This is why.
- 1:58So autism is a developmental neurological condition that
- 2:02impacts you from birth and a lifelong condition.
- 2:04It's kind of like a incurable, lifelong condition, you know,
- 2:10and considers neurological. It's with you from Dave dot and
- 2:13it can be understood as you know, looking at people through
- 2:15personality, behavioural traits as well as communication issues.
- 2:20Now, autistic people don't know that they are saying wrong words
- 2:25or wrong things from time to time, so they don't have
- 2:27filters, they don't know what's appropriate social conventions,
- 2:31because socialising is down to a communication part of the brain
- 2:34and the communication part of the brain is heavily impacted
- 2:36when you have an autism spectrum disorder, right?
- 2:39So autism people have issues with communicating and
- 2:42understanding emotions. So communicating their emotions
- 2:46outwards to somebody or relaying how they feel or what their
- 2:49emotions are to somebody is very difficult for people on the
- 2:51autism spectrum. As for understanding other
- 2:54people's emotions is actually difficult for people on the
- 2:56spectrum. Kind of like trying to tell
- 2:59someone how they feel because it's a communication issue at
- 3:02the end of the day. And again, like I said, autistic
- 3:04people just try and be as honest as they can, You know, they're
- 3:07they're honest people. They they they it's not like we
- 3:11we try to lie to get out of anything is it doesn't do like
- 3:14that. You know, we're honest and
- 3:15decent kind of thinking. And so that's a very interesting
- 3:18key point here we're going to talk about.
- 3:20But during socializing an autistic person will struggle to
- 3:23follow the flow of the socializing in the conversation
- 3:26and present issues with understanding the social
- 3:28conventions or the hidden social rules of, you know, distance and
- 3:31and when each other turn to talk and hand movement and kind of
- 3:35like whose turn is it to talk? How long do I talk for?
- 3:38What? What volume do I talk at?
- 3:39How you know, do I, do I just appear or do I just disappear?
- 3:43Like how you know all of those things, those those unwritten
- 3:46social rules which are kind of like hidden skills that people
- 3:49just pick up from socializing. These are all missed with
- 3:51autism. Very interesting.
- 3:52Now if you flip this and look at narcissism.
- 3:55So a narcissistic condition is a mental health condition that is
- 4:00characterized by persons ability to display a negative behavior
- 4:03in their social approach. So whereas autism is a
- 4:07neurological approach, narcissism is more of a mental
- 4:09health condition. You know, in social situations,
- 4:12A narcissist will be manipulative and use
- 4:15manipulation techniques to gain power within that social
- 4:18construct. So they will manipulate the
- 4:20conversation to make them gain the upper hand in a conversation
- 4:23or gain power in that conversation.
- 4:25Quite an interesting thing to think about, but but it's
- 4:29definitely something that that narcissistic personality traits
- 4:31do have. A narcissist will have
- 4:35multidimensional personalities and switch between different
- 4:38ones with different people to gain control over them.
- 4:42So whereas an autistic person just have one personality, they
- 4:44are who they are, but a narcissist will switch to play
- 4:47the game so that they can gain leverage in every situation
- 4:51they're in. Talking with somebody on the on
- 4:52the spectrum now, talking with somebody in a social situation.
- 4:56Now in terms of narcissism versus autism, you can clearly
- 5:00see there's a huge difference because narcissists are actively
- 5:03aware of the negativity that they are implementing into
- 5:08people that they are exploiting through social conventions.
- 5:11Autism and autistic people, when they are in social situations,
- 5:14they are unaware of the fact that they are negatively
- 5:17impacting those people and they're not doing it to gain
- 5:19leverage. Whereas narcissists, on the
- 5:21other hand, will know what they're doing to gain leverage.
- 5:23So when you're confronted with someone on the autism spectrum,
- 5:26it's very clear because they're not trying to do anything on
- 5:28purpose. It's kind of like they may say
- 5:30something wrong by accident. It's not not their intention,
- 5:33they have no hidden agenda. But people with narcissism will
- 5:36be of the ilk to want to to manipulate you, and they want to
- 5:40do it because they know it's wrong and they want to do it
- 5:43because they want to gain power. It's a.
- 5:44It's a more of an egotistical thing rather than just a
- 5:46mistake. So there are differences, the
- 5:48clear differences between Aspergers and narcissism, and
- 5:50I'd love to know your take on this.
- 5:52If you have anything to add put it in a went down below.
