A fierce fire erupted at an abandoned house on Melwood Avenue in Dayton late Saturday night, with flames shooting from the roof and forcing firefighters to battle the blaze from the outside using massive water cannons. The structure was too unstable to enter, so crews focused on preventing the fire from spreading to the neighboring home — which it nearly did. Meanwhile, the department was also responding to another major fire elsewhere in town. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the adjacent property was cleared.
