- 2:46Speaker 3: want to welcome in now though to the show, the
- 2:48Speaker 3: Mayor of the fine city of Hurricane, Scott Edwards. Good morning, Sarah,
- 2:51Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 2:52Speaker 7: Good morning. How are you doing today?
- 2:54Speaker 3: I am doing fine and thank you for being here.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And you know, Mayor, Hurricane is always on the move,
- 3:00Speaker 3: and it was announced a couple of months ago ahead
- 3:01Speaker 3: you on the show to talk about this new housing
- 3:03Speaker 3: development it's going to be coming to town.
- 3:06Speaker 4: What's what's the latest you can tell us from there.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Yeah, so the housing development, four one hundred to four
- 3:11Speaker 7: hundred and fifty houses will be uh we locate on
- 3:14Speaker 7: seventy acres on the Woodworth Farm and it'll be called
- 3:17Speaker 7: Woodworth Farms, and that we look for that to start
- 3:20Speaker 7: happening in the spring right round and get all that
- 3:22Speaker 7: moving really quick, and then uh, you'll start seeing more
- 3:25Speaker 7: pop up businesses happen happened near there. One is the
- 3:29Speaker 7: DG Market, another DG Market in Putnam County, and it'll
- 3:33Speaker 7: be uh, it'll set right beside those those homes. And uh,
- 3:37Speaker 7: the folks I've talked to in town most for the
- 3:39Speaker 7: most part, most people seem to uh looking forward to
- 3:42Speaker 7: it and like it. Well.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And I'll say this about the and of course the
- 3:46Speaker 3: DG stands for Dollar General. Uh, but uh, it's it's
- 3:49Speaker 3: not your typical Dollar General. We have on we have
- 3:51Speaker 3: one on my end of Day's Valley, you know where
- 3:53Speaker 3: I serve as the mayor, uh on the on on
- 3:56Speaker 3: that end, and uh, and uh it's it's it's a
- 3:58Speaker 3: very nice store. I mean it's a full on supermarket.
- 4:01Speaker 7: Absolutely. I've talked to a lot of folks that live
- 4:03Speaker 7: at three oh four at Valley Point. You know, our
- 4:05Speaker 7: friend Allen Bell his luxury apartments there on Tays Valley
- 4:09Speaker 7: Road behind Wendy's. And there's a DG Market that just
- 4:12Speaker 7: recently opened there. And the folks that live at three
- 4:14Speaker 7: oh four at Valley Point absolutely love the convenience. They
- 4:18Speaker 7: can run out and you know, grab some milk, grab
- 4:20Speaker 7: some fresh vegetables or fruit, and grab a few things
- 4:23Speaker 7: and go back and have dinner. They don't have to
- 4:25Speaker 7: fight all the traffic. And I see the same thing
- 4:28Speaker 7: happening for that end of hurricane where the four hundred
- 4:31Speaker 7: homes will be built. You know, folks that live down
- 4:34Speaker 7: that way can they don't have to fight any traffic
- 4:36Speaker 7: to get to Walmart or Kroger or wherever. They can
- 4:38Speaker 7: just run over to DG Market and grab a few
- 4:40Speaker 7: things and go by home if needed. So it's going
- 4:42Speaker 7: to be good, it really is.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I agree.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Talked to Mayor Scott Edwards, mayor of Hurricane. We had
- 4:47Speaker 3: a news story on this morning earlier, Mayor about the
- 4:50Speaker 3: middle school and hurrican that's right in town.
- 4:52Speaker 4: What can anything anything on that.
- 4:55Speaker 7: It's starting to happen. All the architectures they're they're doing
- 4:59Speaker 7: their thing. Now look forward to breaking ground in twenty
- 5:02Speaker 7: six and get this thing moving forward. Everybody's excited for it.
- 5:06Speaker 7: I know people are apprehensive about extra traffic on Tees
- 5:08Speaker 7: Valley Road, but it's besides the high school. But my
- 5:12Speaker 7: personal feeling is the way the plans are that there's
- 5:15Speaker 7: gonna be a lot of areas off the road for
- 5:17Speaker 7: pick up and drop off, and then the buses won't
- 5:20Speaker 7: have to go back and forth back and forth between
- 5:22Speaker 7: the high school and middle school. So hopefully it's going
- 5:24Speaker 7: to actually alleviate some traffic.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Well, and that was gonna be my next point, mayor,
- 5:29Speaker 3: And that was everyone's favorite subject in Tayese Valley, and
- 5:32Speaker 3: that is traffic. I had said, and you have agreed
- 5:34Speaker 3: with me. It is a it's a good problem to have.
- 5:38Speaker 7: It's a great problem to have. I mean, there's so
- 5:40Speaker 7: many people and I hate to not talking bad about anywhere.
- 5:44Speaker 7: I mean there's great places in our state, but we
- 5:47Speaker 7: are blessed here to have these problems. A lot of
- 5:51Speaker 7: people would would would trade us right now in a
- 5:54Speaker 7: heartbeat to have the problems we have. When I say problems,
- 5:56Speaker 7: I mean some traffic. But for years, as you know,
- 5:59Speaker 7: I've been may Or eighteen years, and people have begged
- 6:01Speaker 7: and begged for all the stuff, restaurants and banks and
- 6:07Speaker 7: different things to do for the kids and different events.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Everybody wants all the things, but nobody wants all the
- 6:12Speaker 7: traffic that has to happen before all those things will come. Yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 7: and it's a trade offs. You have to have traffic
- 6:19Speaker 7: to get hotels and ice restaurants and all these things,
- 6:22Speaker 7: you know, before before they'll locate here. And now we're
- 6:26Speaker 7: on the cusp of that. And we're actually here, and
- 6:28Speaker 7: people are starting to locate here even more, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 7: with all the other growth around us up in Mason County,
- 6:34Speaker 7: with new core and just everything that's happening. We're a
- 6:37Speaker 7: hurricane Tese Valley's got deeper area worthy, like the epicenter
- 6:41Speaker 7: of all this, all the growth.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Somebody once told me, And I wasn't around in Mayor,
- 6:44Speaker 3: and maybe I mean I was around, but I wasn't
- 6:46Speaker 3: living there at the time. And like when when Tays
- 6:48Speaker 3: Valley and the whole hurricane area first exploded, I guess
- 6:51Speaker 3: like in the probably what the nineties, late mid to
- 6:53Speaker 3: late nineties, two thousand, maybe the early nineties, I'm not sure.
- 6:56Speaker 4: You were around then.
- 6:59Speaker 3: We're starting to see a similar type of explosion in
- 7:02Speaker 3: the valley right now, just like it was then.
- 7:04Speaker 7: Correct, Yeah, it's exploding, and you know, property values have
- 7:07Speaker 7: gone through the roof and empty property along, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 7: whether it's a long Tees Valley Road or Scott Depot.
- 7:13Speaker 7: You know, you're starting to see land and you've driven
- 7:16Speaker 7: by before that's just been setting empty and now there's
- 7:18Speaker 7: business is being built there. So it's it's happening right now.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And one more note on traffic then we're gonna talk
- 7:25Speaker 3: about some fun stuff. I mean, to me, traffic is fun,
- 7:27Speaker 3: you know, because it's growth, like you said, and I mean,
- 7:29Speaker 3: you know, I live right in the middle of it.
- 7:31Speaker 3: So where I live, it's right in the middle of
- 7:34Speaker 3: all of it, and I'd say bring it on. But
- 7:37Speaker 3: I do want to touch on this with you a
- 7:39Speaker 3: little bit. Is people, I think sometimes forget they think
- 7:42Speaker 3: that when you're the mayor that you are in charge
- 7:45Speaker 3: of everything and a lot of the roads, things people
- 7:48Speaker 3: complain about, traffic, lights and whatever, not really a whole
- 7:51Speaker 3: lot that the mayor or a city, no matter what
- 7:53Speaker 3: the mayor citys can do about some of those things.
- 7:57Speaker 7: Well, I'm no king, So I'm not in control of
- 8:00Speaker 7: all those things at all, you know, like the like
- 8:04Speaker 7: the Woodworth farm. You know, a family owned that's seventy
- 8:08Speaker 7: acres and they sold it to another man and he
- 8:11Speaker 7: saw it to a development company. It really wasn't the
- 8:14Speaker 7: city involved in that at all. Now we have to
- 8:16Speaker 7: make sure, from the city's perspective that they build correctly
- 8:20Speaker 7: and all the infrastructure goes in right. But we don't
- 8:23Speaker 7: pick and choose who comes here and who doesn't, you know,
- 8:25Speaker 7: we don't. People ask me all the time you need
- 8:27Speaker 7: to get it in down steakhouse, national chain. Well, I
- 8:31Speaker 7: can't just go call out back and say you must
- 8:33Speaker 7: locate here. They have to do traffic counts, they have
- 8:36Speaker 7: to buy land from private individuals or other businesses. They
- 8:39Speaker 7: have to choose to locate here, and then we make
- 8:41Speaker 7: sure if it needs you know, rezoned or most like
- 8:44Speaker 7: it's already zwned properly. We just make sure it's done right.
- 8:47Speaker 7: It's not a mayor's choice to do that again, not
- 8:51Speaker 7: a king. It's just a mayor making sure all the
- 8:54Speaker 7: rules are followed.
- 8:55Speaker 3: And you're absolutely right about that, mayor, And people will say, well,
- 8:58Speaker 3: you know, and it doesn't matter what the city is.
- 9:00Speaker 4: This is not exclusive to Hurricane.
- 9:01Speaker 3: It happens everywhere from Charleston to Morgantown, probably all across America.
- 9:04Speaker 3: People say you need to do this, we need this here,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and we know you need to do it, you know.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I mean, just because you're the mayor doesn't necessarily mean
- 9:12Speaker 3: that you can get these things. I mean, you entrepreneurs
- 9:16Speaker 3: need to go out and make make sure these things
- 9:18Speaker 3: come here if you want them here so badly.
- 9:19Speaker 6: I for one.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I mean, look, I like to eat at a chain
- 9:23Speaker 3: as much as next people as the next person, but
- 9:26Speaker 3: I would much rather see local places. I mean, I'm
- 9:28Speaker 3: not interested. I mean I'll eat at you know, in
- 9:31Speaker 3: Olive Garden, Red Lobster, God bless them. You know, they
- 9:33Speaker 3: employ a lot of people. I'd much rather see local
- 9:35Speaker 3: places come in.
- 9:36Speaker 4: But that's just me me.
- 9:38Speaker 7: No, I fully agree with you, me too. And we
- 9:40Speaker 7: have a lot of local places to eat here in
- 9:43Speaker 7: Hurricane and Putnam County. And I need to do a
- 9:46Speaker 7: Facebook post about that soon and give everybody that list again,
- 9:49Speaker 7: like I do about every year. I mean, we have
- 9:51Speaker 7: a lot of awesome places we do. We do.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I mean everything from fireside to fairways to the Bridge
- 9:58Speaker 3: to Sergio's. I mean on our barbecue, so many, so
- 10:01Speaker 3: many great places to do there.
- 10:02Speaker 4: All right, let's talk about Halloween.
- 10:04Speaker 3: And I know you've got a big event going on
- 10:05Speaker 3: this weekend, but I want to cover Halloween first. What
- 10:07Speaker 3: you got going on for Halloween over the next week
- 10:09Speaker 3: or so?
- 10:09Speaker 4: Mare?
- 10:10Speaker 7: Yeah, So this weekend, this Saturday, three to six pm
- 10:13Speaker 7: is our pumpkin carving Extravaganza. It's at the upper section
- 10:17Speaker 7: of Hurricane Bridge Park Or We'll give away five hundred pumpkins,
- 10:21Speaker 7: carving tools and kits. We'll have prizes for best pumpkin
- 10:24Speaker 7: and for age categories, including adults, so you can participate.
- 10:27Speaker 7: My friend, Oh goodness, We'll have a DJ playing free giveaway,
- 10:31Speaker 7: those type of things. But at five pm that day,
- 10:34Speaker 7: we're adding something new to it. It's the inflatable Costume
- 10:37Speaker 7: Race and it's for all ages and we have prizes, Soul.
- 10:41Speaker 7: If you would agree to do it, I'll buy your costume.
- 10:44Speaker 7: It's one of those ones you have to be fully
- 10:46Speaker 7: encapsulated and you're going to run one hundred yard dash
- 10:49Speaker 7: and be all the other older folks. So if you
- 10:51Speaker 7: want to sign up, sign up right here and right now.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Last time you volunteered me to do karaoke. Now you've
- 10:56Speaker 3: got me wearing Halloween costumes.
- 10:58Speaker 7: Well that's in the spring you're going to carry. But
- 11:00Speaker 7: this Saturday you can get an inflatable costume and race
- 11:03Speaker 7: with all the other adults. No boy, And then immediately
- 11:06Speaker 7: following that evening the Haunted Hurricane Bridge Park. So we
- 11:11Speaker 7: had a haunted house on Main Street last year and
- 11:13Speaker 7: it was huge. We had no idea it was gonna
- 11:15Speaker 7: be that big. So this is a multi day event.
- 11:18Speaker 7: It begins this Saturday, October twenty fifth, immediately following the
- 11:22Speaker 7: pumpkin carving from six to nine pm. And also it's
- 11:25Speaker 7: on October thirtieth and thirty first. Now, this is a
- 11:28Speaker 7: haunted trail system, so we really say it's for kids
- 11:33Speaker 7: ten and older, but people will bring younger ones. That's fine.
- 11:36Speaker 7: But there's gonna be a lot of spooky, scary stuff.
- 11:38Speaker 7: It's really going to be it's gonna be phenomenal. Last
- 11:41Speaker 7: year's was scary. This one's gonna be really scary. We
- 11:43Speaker 7: have lots and volunteers and it's going to be real.
- 11:47Speaker 7: And there's some you know, some little bit of uneven ground,
- 11:50Speaker 7: some flashing lights, some really scary stuff. Ain't not wanting
- 11:54Speaker 7: to do this, my friend, because I know you're pretty scared.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm extremely scared.
- 12:00Speaker 7: Scared.
- 12:00Speaker 4: I'm scared of what you and a man to sign
- 12:01Speaker 4: me up for.
- 12:02Speaker 7: That's then citywide trig or treat It is October thirty first
- 12:06Speaker 7: as well from sixty eight pm.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yep, right, hyber Con. Last time we were on you
- 12:12Speaker 3: you talked about this Hybercon thing. Man, This thing is
- 12:15Speaker 3: huge and it's happening, talk about it.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Yeah, So Hybercon Games last year, well, I'll tell you
- 12:20Speaker 7: last year it was in on Catalina Island in California,
- 12:25Speaker 7: and there's a whole movie on on Primary. I just
- 12:28Speaker 7: watched it this past week again, an hour long movie
- 12:32Speaker 7: on this whole on Hybercon Games. It's weekend Friday, Saturday
- 12:35Speaker 7: and Sunday here in Hurricane This Meek's Mountain Trails Valley Park.
- 12:40Speaker 7: These are forty eight extreme athletes from all over the
- 12:43Speaker 7: world Mexico, France, UK, Australia, the United States. These are
- 12:48Speaker 7: the top tier athletes from all over the world. We've
- 12:52Speaker 7: talked them into coming here this year, which is wonderful.
- 12:54Speaker 7: My friend, my very good friend, Matt Stevens. He's part
- 12:57Speaker 7: of that that team and he really is the one
- 12:59Speaker 7: that twist to Durham and ask him to come here.
- 13:01Speaker 7: When Austin Alexander, the founder of Hyberconk Games, came to
- 13:05Speaker 7: West Virginia, he knew it was a home for him here.
- 13:07Speaker 7: He knew the games needed to be here. He loved
- 13:10Speaker 7: our trail system, he loved everything about about Hurricane and
- 13:13Speaker 7: Putnam County. It's gonna be phenomenal. Now the public is
- 13:16Speaker 7: invited to watch on October twenty fifth from seven am
- 13:19Speaker 7: to four pm at Valley Park. So come on out
- 13:22Speaker 7: watch the Hybriconk Games. That's the one day that the
- 13:25Speaker 7: that the public can come and watch. It's going to
- 13:28Speaker 7: be phenomenal. These men and women are unbelievable, unbelievably strong
- 13:33Speaker 7: and just it's unreal.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Explain mayor what it is that they do in these competitions.
- 13:40Speaker 7: Well, they may they may do hand to hand combat,
- 13:42Speaker 7: wrestling with each other. They may go swimming, they may
- 13:46Speaker 7: die for things. They might do axe throwing, they might
- 13:51Speaker 7: start fires the quickest. They might stay outside all night
- 13:55Speaker 7: in the woods. They may do archery, they may do
- 13:59Speaker 7: feats of string. We're massive weights, carrying big huge know
- 14:03Speaker 7: what they call them, big huge two hundred pound bag
- 14:06Speaker 7: of weights, you know, to four hundred yards, the fastest,
- 14:10Speaker 7: the quickest. I mean, it's across the board. Everything that
- 14:15Speaker 7: they do. It it's not just lifting weights, it's not
- 14:18Speaker 7: just shooting a gun or doing archery. It's it's just unbelievable.
- 14:24Speaker 7: And there's lots of surprises for the athletes as well.
- 14:27Speaker 7: Some of them they don't know what they're getting into.
- 14:30Speaker 7: Its strength, endurance, and probably the biggest one is the
- 14:33Speaker 7: mental toughness. So they may hit me's mountain trails. And
- 14:37Speaker 7: again they haven't told everybody all the all the details.
- 14:40Speaker 7: It's unbelievable. These are the toughest and best athletes across
- 14:44Speaker 7: the world. They're all world class. You have to you know,
- 14:48Speaker 7: you have to qualify. You can't even just sign up
- 14:50Speaker 7: for this. And there's gonna be about thirty thousand dollars
- 14:52Speaker 7: in cash prizes given. Then there'll be a movie made
- 14:55Speaker 7: about this one as well. It'll be be out neck,
- 14:58Speaker 7: you know, in a few months.
- 15:00Speaker 3: A big, big feather in the cap for the area
- 15:04Speaker 3: to be able to pull this thing in, not just
- 15:06Speaker 3: Hurricane Mayor, but the city. I mean, but the state
- 15:08Speaker 3: of West Virginia, because there's people coming from all over
- 15:11Speaker 3: for this.
- 15:11Speaker 7: Thing, all over the world. And my friend Austin Alexander
- 15:14Speaker 7: the found he's a social media where he gets about
- 15:19Speaker 7: ten million views a month, ten so he's all over
- 15:24Speaker 7: the place. Amazing, amazing man. He's Navy veteran turned entrepreneur.
- 15:29Speaker 7: But you need to come out if you can and
- 15:31Speaker 7: see him, and I'll introduce you to all of them.
- 15:33Speaker 7: It's wonderful, all.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Right, Mayor.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Always some good things going on, from Halloween to traffic
- 15:38Speaker 3: to new development and the hybri Con games.
- 15:42Speaker 7: This fresh fruit at the DG market.
- 15:44Speaker 3: And fresh fruit at the DG market, man, you can't
- 15:47Speaker 3: beat at Mayor. Scott Edward's always a pleasure to have
- 15:48Speaker 3: you in the show. We appreciated buddy, Thanks a lot,
- 15:51Speaker 3: Thank you, all right, Mayor Edwards of Hurricane Yeah, when
- 15:54Speaker 3: he was on the show, I guess a couple of
- 15:57Speaker 3: weeks ago talking about those HYBERCND I can't even like
- 16:00Speaker 3: imagine that I get tired watching sports on TV that
- 16:03Speaker 3: these people are going to go through sleep deprivation and
- 16:09Speaker 3: archery and hiking and carrying weights and hand to hand
- 16:14Speaker 3: combat and all this more power to you. But it
- 16:18Speaker 3: is a major, major event for not as I said,
- 16:21Speaker 3: it's happening this weekend. It's going to be at Valley
- 16:24Speaker 3: Park and Hurricane, but it's and meex mountain trails and
- 16:27Speaker 3: so on and so forth. But it's not just for that.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I mean, people are literally coming from all over the
- 16:30Speaker 3: world for this thing. It's going to be absolutely, absolutely huge.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Mary Edward's always pleasure to have him on the show.
- 16:38Speaker 3: And again, you know, I'm somebody that lives right in
- 16:42Speaker 3: the middle of all of this, and I see on
- 16:45Speaker 3: social media people complaining about the traffic and so on
- 16:48Speaker 3: and so forth, and I get it. I don't particularly
- 16:51Speaker 3: like you know, last week, I get off the days
- 16:54Speaker 3: Valley exit to go home. It took me twenty five
- 16:56Speaker 3: minutes to get from the exit to my home, which
- 16:59Speaker 3: is about a mile and a half.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Off the exit.

- 19:50Speaker 3: make the city prettier, among other reasons. Can you find
- 19:52Speaker 3: out which species of trees are being planted? That was
- 19:56Speaker 3: to discuss at Charleston City Council meeting last night, and
- 19:58Speaker 3: I can tell you I was in contact but the
- 20:00Speaker 3: Mayor's office earlier today. We are hoping to have somebody
- 20:02Speaker 3: who's kind of a beautification expert from the City of
- 20:06Speaker 3: Charleston on the show tomorrow, trying to work that out.
- 20:10Speaker 3: If not, it'll be sometime within next couple of days,
- 20:11Speaker 3: and yes, Texter, I will ask that question. Jim Workman
- 20:15Speaker 3: is here knows a little something about beautification, right, Well,
- 20:18Speaker 3: you're a pretty man, Jim Workman.
- 20:20Speaker 10: I'm an observer beauty, but I don't know. But the
- 20:23Speaker 10: mirror does not agree with that.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I want to start with WVU football. W football big
- 20:30Speaker 3: blowout loss to Central Florida in Orlando Saturday afternoon on
- 20:33Speaker 3: National TV. We knew this was going to be a
- 20:37Speaker 3: rough season, but this rough.
- 20:40Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, at the beginning of the season when
- 20:42Speaker 10: we talked, we really had no idea what this team
- 20:45Speaker 10: was going to be comprised of.
- 20:47Speaker 3: And that's not unique to West Virginia. Marshall had the
- 20:50Speaker 3: same thing, as did about one hundred other programs around
- 20:52Speaker 3: the country.
- 20:53Speaker 10: Facts, that's true. At this point of the season, it
- 20:56Speaker 10: does not look good. I mean, especially the next five games.
- 21:01Speaker 6: WVU has a six.
- 21:03Speaker 10: And one team, a five and two team, a three
- 21:06Speaker 10: and four team which is Colorado, and another five and
- 21:09Speaker 10: two team and another six and one team left on
- 21:12Speaker 10: the schedule. It doesn't look like it's going to get
- 21:14Speaker 10: any better. I hope that they improve. I hope that
- 21:18Speaker 10: a lot of people don't throw in the towel in
- 21:20Speaker 10: this new era of college sports and look to transfer
- 21:24Speaker 10: already because you know it's not going well this year.
- 21:27Speaker 10: They have to start retaining guys and they have to
- 21:30Speaker 10: start recruiting better, and you know it's this.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Year is kind of a wash. I hope that they
- 21:35Speaker 6: get strong.
- 21:36Speaker 4: And we got to you know, try to keep people
- 21:38Speaker 4: healthy too.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, quarterback wise, they're one step away
- 21:41Speaker 3: from Colin Hostetler and Putney in mean at this point, well.
- 21:44Speaker 10: You know it didn't start out well when you lose
- 21:46Speaker 10: your Bell cow In Jehem White the running back right
- 21:50Speaker 10: off the beginning, and you know after that you had
- 21:53Speaker 10: some really inexperience at that position, and then you had
- 21:56Speaker 10: inexperience at least at WU except for Nico, you know,
- 22:00Speaker 10: at the quarterback position. So this is a I don't
- 22:04Speaker 10: even know if you would term it a rebuilding year,
- 22:08Speaker 10: because every year is going to be a rebuilding year.
- 22:10Speaker 3: In the current college landscape here, absolutely right. And when
- 22:13Speaker 3: you see the ones like and now use Clemson for
- 22:16Speaker 3: an example, you know Dabo Sweeney said we're not going
- 22:18Speaker 3: to do this. Well, he's not having the best of
- 22:21Speaker 3: seasons either right now.
- 22:22Speaker 10: Well, you know, one of his peers actually got out
- 22:25Speaker 10: of the college football game because of the nature of things,
- 22:28Speaker 10: and that was Nick Saban, you know. He they came
- 22:31Speaker 10: through about the same time, having success at the same time,
- 22:35Speaker 10: and Nick saw the writing on the wall and he said,
- 22:37Speaker 10: you know what, less stress on the TV booth.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're exactly right, all right, But this week
- 22:43Speaker 3: we get TCU, Yes, Cole Rush game.
- 22:46Speaker 4: The uniforms are going to look good. Yes, I'll say that.
- 22:49Speaker 10: You know, it's kind of a gimmicky thing, but of
- 22:52Speaker 10: course it is a tribute to our coal miners in
- 22:57Speaker 10: that industry in the state, which means a whole lot
- 23:00Speaker 10: to a whole lot of people.
- 23:01Speaker 6: So that'll be the good part of Saturday.
- 23:04Speaker 10: And that's once they kicked at once they kick off. Yes,
- 23:07Speaker 10: it's gonna be tough, and it's homecoming. Yes, yeah, not
- 23:10Speaker 10: a good opponent for homecoming. But you never know that
- 23:13Speaker 10: I never.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Know, you never know, I meaning, things happen.
- 23:16Speaker 10: Yeah, so expect the exit at the end of halftime
- 23:20Speaker 10: to be very crowded.
- 23:22Speaker 3: So what happens in your opinion, at the end of
- 23:24Speaker 3: the season. I mean when I mean, I mean, we
- 23:27Speaker 3: are realistically looking at the fact, and I hope I'm wrong. Okay,
- 23:31Speaker 3: I hope I'm wrong, But we are realistically looking at
- 23:33Speaker 3: the fact that WV may not win another game. That's right, Okay,
- 23:37Speaker 3: this season. So what happens at the end of the season.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I mean, Rodriguez is not going anywhere. I don't mean that,
- 23:41Speaker 3: but I mean, what happens at the end of the season.
- 23:43Speaker 10: I think you regroup, and I think they've probably I mean,
- 23:47Speaker 10: they'll never admit this, but they're already thinking along those lines,
- 23:50Speaker 10: and they're talking, probably assistant coaches like hey, hang in there,
- 23:54Speaker 10: or you know, maybe you need to look for another
- 23:56Speaker 10: job or whatever. But you just have to regroup. You
- 24:00Speaker 10: have to retain some of those key players. You have
- 24:02Speaker 10: to get those guys that are injured healthy and just
- 24:05Speaker 10: go into the off season with the thought that you know,
- 24:10Speaker 10: the first time he was through, they won three games
- 24:12Speaker 10: the first season, and after that it looked really well,
- 24:15Speaker 10: it looked great. So hopefully that same blueprint works for
- 24:20Speaker 10: round two.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Here is one thing that I have noticed that I
- 24:24Speaker 3: thought would happened that didn't, especially in the world of
- 24:26Speaker 3: social media, and everybody you know has got to espouse
- 24:29Speaker 3: their opinions on X and Facebook and different message boards
- 24:33Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. I thought that more
- 24:35Speaker 3: people at this point would have been saying the Rodrigez
- 24:37Speaker 3: thing was a mistake, and they're not, And I don't
- 24:39Speaker 3: and I agree with the people.
- 24:40Speaker 4: That say it was not. I mean, it's too early
- 24:43Speaker 4: to tell.
- 24:44Speaker 6: Timing is everything.
- 24:45Speaker 10: I mean, he the w thing happened when he was
- 24:50Speaker 10: ready to make the jump. Maybe a year before that
- 24:53Speaker 10: wouldn't have happened. Maybe this year they don't get rich Rae,
- 24:57Speaker 10: they go for somebody else. I don't know if a
- 24:59Speaker 10: James Franklin would be affordable at WVU, but you know
- 25:03Speaker 10: there's going to be people come available that would look
- 25:07Speaker 10: at a WU program as a great opportunity. Rod's not
- 25:10Speaker 10: going anywhere, He's not. But I'm just saying it was
- 25:13Speaker 10: a timing thing. You know, they got rich Rod. That's
- 25:16Speaker 10: probably the best they could have done at the time.
- 25:20Speaker 10: He's a West Virginia guy. You can energize the fan base. Again,
- 25:25Speaker 10: I think he's a good recruiter. I think he can
- 25:27Speaker 10: identify good assistant coaches. So you're just gonna have to
- 25:29Speaker 10: be patient. And I know that's a dirty word for fans,
- 25:32Speaker 10: Oh yeah, but patients will pay off we wanted yesterday.
- 25:35Speaker 3: That's the way, That's why sports fans are It's twenty

- 25:58Speaker 4: Your career starts here, all right?
- 26:00Speaker 3: Uh so, uh, it's coming together in Huntington for Gibby
- 26:04Speaker 3: and the Thundering Herd. I mean, we knew it was
- 26:06Speaker 3: going to be a difficult season for them as well,
- 26:09Speaker 3: but a couple of big win over an old dominion
- 26:12Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago and doubled overtime this past
- 26:14Speaker 3: week with a win on homecoming, it's starting to it's
- 26:18Speaker 3: starting to gel at Huntington, right, Yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 10: It seems like it, and you know it's a little
- 26:22Speaker 10: bit like last year and identifying the quarterback. It seemed like,
- 26:26Speaker 10: you know Braxton at the beginning of last season, You're.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Like, man, that guy's pretty good. I wonder why he's
- 26:32Speaker 6: not in the lineup.
- 26:33Speaker 10: You know, they tried a few things and he gets
- 26:35Speaker 10: in there and becomes, you know, offensive player of the
- 26:37Speaker 10: year in the conference. Uh, maybe that's what happens this
- 26:40Speaker 10: year with Carlos del Rio Wilson. He's playing well. I mean,
- 26:44Speaker 10: they've got a couple of great running backs, a couple
- 26:47Speaker 10: of good receivers, and I tell you what, the defense
- 26:51Speaker 10: bent and did not break at the end, made some
- 26:54Speaker 10: big plays. But man, how frustrating was it for Thundering
- 26:58Speaker 10: Herd fans to see Texas State keep running that same
- 27:02Speaker 10: screenplay over and over and over again, and they just
- 27:06Speaker 10: got big yardage out of it, kept them in the game.
- 27:08Speaker 10: And guess what, in the fourth quarter, Marshall starts doing
- 27:12Speaker 10: the same play, which moved them down the field in
- 27:15Speaker 10: the ultimately in two OT's they win.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Talking to you with Jim Workman, the head of the
- 27:19Speaker 3: Western New Sports Writers Association, of course, of Wally and Whippies.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Two more than that coming up a little later on.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Tex says, I got to say this mouth in here
- 27:26Speaker 3: wants to be why you Cougar's to go on and
- 27:27Speaker 3: win at all their teams, school and fans have so
- 27:29Speaker 3: much to be proud of, and that they show nothing
- 27:32Speaker 3: but kindness, hospitality and respect to all opponents, first class
- 27:35Speaker 3: all the way.
- 27:36Speaker 10: You know, if that's the case, Duke Blue Devils are
- 27:39Speaker 10: the national champions every year. I had a good experience
- 27:42Speaker 10: down at Duke watching Florida State and Duke a few
- 27:44Speaker 10: years ago. I mean they were thanking people for coing.
- 27:47Speaker 10: It was free parking a block from the stadium. It
- 27:50Speaker 10: was ten buck tickets. I mean, Duke wins. Miscongeniality in
- 27:56Speaker 10: college football.
- 27:57Speaker 3: There's that could be fighting words to a lot of people,
- 28:00Speaker 3: because as we get ready to go to the college
- 28:02Speaker 3: basketball season, Duke is wonted. Duke is like my Dallas Cowboys, Jimbo.
- 28:06Speaker 3: People either love them or hate them. There's like there's
- 28:08Speaker 3: no in between.
- 28:09Speaker 10: True, true, But the football is a little different up there,
- 28:11Speaker 10: and they're getting better.
- 28:12Speaker 6: They've been getting better.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, so I want to switch gears here
- 28:16Speaker 3: for a moment. We reported on this, as did several
- 28:19Speaker 3: media outlets. Jim Big High school rivalry game originally set
- 28:24Speaker 3: for Friday night between tug Valley and Tulsa. That game
- 28:27Speaker 3: is being moved to Thursday because they can't get officials.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Simply put, no one wants to be a referee anymore,
- 28:36Speaker 3: and can you blame them?
- 28:38Speaker 10: Yeah, that's it's a big issue. They've been talking about
- 28:42Speaker 10: that for a couple of years. The SSEC has put
- 28:45Speaker 10: out like public service announcements, they've been posting on the
- 28:51Speaker 10: social media channels. They need officials. I mean, they're getting older.
- 28:55Speaker 10: I mean, the guys that have been in it, and
- 28:58Speaker 10: let's face it, that's that's a physical it is physical challenge.
- 29:02Speaker 10: When you're running up and down the field, you're dodging
- 29:05Speaker 10: football players, I mean, and there's.
- 29:08Speaker 3: A dodge more than football players these days. You're you're
- 29:10Speaker 3: you're dodging idiot parents and grandparents too to a certain extent,
- 29:13Speaker 3: because look, I mean, our society and not to play
- 29:16Speaker 3: amateur psychologists here, our society. I'm going to put it
- 29:19Speaker 3: in the most scientific terms I can. Our society is nuts. Okay,
- 29:24Speaker 3: it's freaking nuts right now. And everybody thinks it's you
- 29:28Speaker 3: know that they're going to be a warrior and that
- 29:30Speaker 3: you're not going to pick on my baby and whatever,
- 29:32Speaker 3: and your baby probably not attempt doesn't care. You know,
- 29:35Speaker 3: they just want to play the game. I mean, would
- 29:38Speaker 3: you want to be an official?
- 29:40Speaker 10: No, you know, And to your point, I think, of
- 29:43Speaker 10: course everybody is uh. You know, you can have your
- 29:47Speaker 10: own opinion, but pick and choose when and how you
- 29:50Speaker 10: voice it. I think especially at a football game. You know,
- 29:54Speaker 10: using bad language is not good in public. I don't
- 29:57Speaker 10: think it really makes you, your team, your community look bad.
- 30:02Speaker 10: And to blame the refs on you know, your team's
- 30:06Speaker 10: inability to do whatever is most times a stretch because
- 30:12Speaker 10: the referees do have a tough game, I don't a
- 30:15Speaker 10: tough job. But you know they're not out to get you. No,
- 30:21Speaker 10: You're not that important really much more. Listen, they just
- 30:24Speaker 10: want to see the zeros at the end, and they
- 30:26Speaker 10: want to get in their car and go home and
- 30:28Speaker 10: be safe.
- 30:28Speaker 3: And it's just I mean again, and I think it's
- 30:31Speaker 3: a societal issue. I mean, there's a people listeners heard
- 30:35Speaker 3: me say this over the year.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Jam.
- 30:36Speaker 4: There's a couple of jobs that I would not want
- 30:38Speaker 4: to do.
- 30:38Speaker 3: I don't want to be a police officer because of
- 30:40Speaker 3: a lack of respect we have for police officers. Don't
- 30:42Speaker 3: really want to be a teacher because of a lack
- 30:44Speaker 3: of respect we have for teachers. I'm gonna add referee
- 30:48Speaker 3: to that list too. Emergency services worker is another one
- 30:51Speaker 3: right now, because I mean those guys and gals just
- 30:53Speaker 3: I mean, they really go through it. And another one
- 30:55Speaker 3: would be official, be a referee. I mean, it's just,
- 30:58Speaker 3: you know, it's just where we are.
- 31:00Speaker 10: You're facing a lot of challenges. I think that you know,
- 31:03Speaker 10: they're going to make a push to educate people about
- 31:09Speaker 10: you know, respecting officials, and you know, they make the
- 31:14Speaker 10: announcements before football games, basketball games, and then they're going
- 31:18Speaker 10: to maybe arm the officials with you know, some tips
- 31:22Speaker 10: on how to get through it. And you know what,
- 31:24Speaker 10: in a lot of the state, and I think it
- 31:26Speaker 10: may be even a state law. We need to look
- 31:28Speaker 10: that up, but it's probably at least a misdemeanor and
- 31:32Speaker 10: you could probably go to jail for certain things. And
- 31:35Speaker 10: I applaud Shawnee Park for making some upgrades in their
- 31:41Speaker 10: policies in dealing with fan behavior over there as well.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yeah, if you can't behave just kick them out right,
- 31:46Speaker 3: I mean, and I've said that, and we actually had
- 31:48Speaker 3: an instance in the old hometown about fifteen twenty years
- 31:53Speaker 3: ago that the officials it was a big basketball boys
- 31:56Speaker 3: basketball game between Logan and West Side. The officials kicked
- 31:59Speaker 3: every fan out and they played the game.
- 32:02Speaker 6: They should have that in their arsenal.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I mean, look, the majority of games are either broadcast
- 32:07Speaker 3: on radio or they're streamed or something. Anyway, if you
- 32:10Speaker 3: can't be we are going to get to a point, Jim,
- 32:12Speaker 3: in this country where that's what's going to happen. Fans
- 32:15Speaker 3: are not going to be allowed to come to the games.
- 32:16Speaker 3: If we don't write this ship.
- 32:18Speaker 10: Well, it definitely becomes a safety issue. So I would
- 32:21Speaker 10: not blame the referees or the administration of the host
- 32:24Speaker 10: school if they emptied the gym sometimes and it there
- 32:28Speaker 10: was the threat of that, maybe it would quell some
- 32:31Speaker 10: of the unruly fans, and maybe they need to police
- 32:34Speaker 10: themselves too.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Let's talk about wall and Whimpies. Of course, the state's
- 32:37Speaker 3: premiere sports publication.
- 32:39Speaker 6: You can use that.
- 32:40Speaker 10: They use that all right, trademark Davey twenty five.
- 32:44Speaker 3: We know that you do these wally and whimpes nights
- 32:47Speaker 3: of Buffalo wild Wings across lanes once what but you
- 32:50Speaker 3: just had one You span this a little bit, right.
- 32:53Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, we always do Buffalo Wild Wings and
- 32:56Speaker 10: Cross Lanes, Wally's and Whimp'ess Night on the third Thursday
- 32:59Speaker 10: of every month. We're going to continue doing that. It's
- 33:02Speaker 10: been a great success for seven years. This year we
- 33:05Speaker 10: added some live events at some subways. We are visiting
- 33:09Speaker 10: eleven of them in the area and this is kind
- 33:12Speaker 10: of a different twist to that in that we come
- 33:15Speaker 10: to you Basically, you know, we invite people to come
- 33:17Speaker 10: to Cross Lanes do the event, but we're visiting a
- 33:21Speaker 10: lot of area locations. This Thursday, we're going to be
- 33:24Speaker 10: at the Winfield Subway and it's going to be more
- 33:28Speaker 10: than just giving away prizes. We're actually gonna honor the
- 33:31Speaker 10: Winfield softball team, which they have seven seniors coming back
- 33:35Speaker 10: this spring. They've won three straight state championships, so definitely
- 33:40Speaker 10: worth honoring that team and coach Steve Hensley as a
- 33:44Speaker 10: friend of mine, he's the Winfield softball coach. Before he
- 33:47Speaker 10: was a softball coach, he was a successful baseball coach
- 33:50Speaker 10: at Winfield and just had a great career. He's got
- 33:54Speaker 10: a great team and we're going to honor those guys
- 33:57Speaker 10: and ladies Thursday Infield Subway six o'clock to seven thirty,
- 34:02Speaker 10: and we'll be going to many other subway locations as well.
- 34:06Speaker 3: And remind people how they can read Wally and Whimpies
- 34:09Speaker 3: because you're you're digital now.
- 34:10Speaker 10: Yeah, and not only are we digital, this year we
- 34:13Speaker 10: went daily, so we are producing content every day, pushing
- 34:17Speaker 10: it out to people's inboxes digitally. And you can go
- 34:21Speaker 10: to wallywimpiesports dot com and get the information you need.
- 34:25Speaker 10: If you want to support us for four dollars a month,
- 34:28Speaker 10: you'll get it delivered to your inbox every morning.
- 34:30Speaker 3: For less than well, I was gonna say less than
- 34:33Speaker 3: a burger, but I don't know whether that's true or not.
- 34:35Speaker 6: Less than a Starbucks cop at Neil the Coffee.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, Jim Martman. And also you're the president
- 34:40Speaker 3: of Westernian Sports Writers Association. You guys got anything big
- 34:43Speaker 3: going on?
- 34:43Speaker 4: I tell you.
- 34:44Speaker 10: I mean we're already in week eight, I believe of
- 34:48Speaker 10: high school football.
- 34:49Speaker 6: I mean it's going to come up.
- 34:50Speaker 10: You know, we're going to be doing our all state
- 34:54Speaker 10: We're sending ballots out to the coaches and the writers.
- 34:58Speaker 10: Of course that's done Championship Weekend, which is in Charleston
- 35:01Speaker 10: now for the second year first weekend of December, and
- 35:05Speaker 10: you know, it's it's always a busy time with the
- 35:07Speaker 10: West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
- 35:09Speaker 6: Speaking of that, you need to go to.
- 35:11Speaker 10: WVSWA dot org and check out the website. There's just
- 35:14Speaker 10: a ton of information on the sports writers website.
- 35:17Speaker 3: And of course, it was announced not long ago that
- 35:19Speaker 3: the city of Huntington's going to be taken over the
- 35:21Speaker 3: baseball championships. And they all knew Jack cook Field down there.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Charleston's been a great host for a number of years.
- 35:26Speaker 3: But you know, and I know the city of Charleston
- 35:30Speaker 3: has been very happy to host them. I know the
- 35:31Speaker 3: city of Huntington, I'll be happy to host them as well.
- 35:33Speaker 10: I don't mind that. And you know, I didn't mind
- 35:35Speaker 10: football for a while and Wheeling. I don't mind traveling
- 35:38Speaker 10: through the state for state championships. If they do it right, great,
- 35:41Speaker 10: I mean, just think about Huntington. You know, just a
- 35:44Speaker 10: few years ago it was frustrating that they couldn't build
- 35:47Speaker 10: a ballpark, I know, and all of a sudden they
- 35:50Speaker 10: get it. They've got Marshall having a good baseball team,
- 35:54Speaker 10: sun Belts a good baseball conference, and then they bring
- 35:57Speaker 10: in the the Cold Cats. Yeah, and then they you know,
- 36:02Speaker 10: they're hosting the high school baseball championships. Pretty amazing for Huntington.
- 36:07Speaker 10: Hats off to them.
- 36:08Speaker 3: All right, Jim, I appreciate it as always.
- 36:10Speaker 6: Yeah, thank you, sir.

- 39:33Speaker 4: Uh and uh.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Normally my wife will have the coffee ready.
- 39:38Speaker 4: You know, before we go to bed.

- 39:42Speaker 3: a little a little tired and we didn't get that

- 39:45Speaker 3: I thought, well, I'll be a nice guy and I'll

- 42:10Speaker 3: Virginia had zero job growth in the last seventeen years
- 42:14Speaker 3: and longer for population growth than the Republicans have said.
- 42:18Speaker 3: We have seen progress as a taxster. Texas just gave
- 42:23Speaker 3: Argentina twenty billion dollars, going to buy beef from them now,
- 42:26Speaker 3: and we are buying a jet for one hundred and
- 42:30Speaker 3: seventy million dollars for Christy Noman billions to demolish and
- 42:33Speaker 3: rebuild part of the White House. And the farmers in

- 42:43Speaker 3: That's being paid for by private donations. It's not being

- 47:11Speaker 3: Authority though, because they need to know you coming. But
- 47:13Speaker 3: Dave Island showing five at elive is brunt. You're part
- 47:15Speaker 3: by Morgan and Morgan. If you're injured hired Morgan to Morgan,
- 47:17Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm, tex says, if you were
- 47:21Speaker 3: under boil water, is a good thing you forgot the pot?
- 47:23Speaker 4: Well, I think I ain't making coffee constitutes.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Boiling water, right, I mean, it's it's probably good, It's
- 47:29Speaker 3: probably fine. So who's going to replace State Senator Mike Stewart,
- 47:34Speaker 3: who resigned to take an appointment with the Trump administration. Well,
- 47:36Speaker 3: here is what I am told on good authority. This
- 47:41Speaker 3: would be, of course, to finish out Stuart's term State
- 47:44Speaker 3: Senator District seven, former Delegate Zach Maynard, Monica Ballard Booth,
- 47:49Speaker 3: and Dustin Moore. Now those are the names I am hearing.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Nothing official yet, but I did have a conversation this
- 47:56Speaker 3: morning with some folks that he said, yeah, you're free
- 48:01Speaker 3: to put that out there. There was a meeting held
- 48:02Speaker 3: last night until around eleven o'clock or so, and now
- 48:06Speaker 3: those three names will go to the governor. So the
- 48:10Speaker 3: names I'm here in former Della get Zach Mandard, Monica
- 48:12Speaker 3: Bowder Booth and a Dustin Moore. Nothing official yet, That's
- 48:16Speaker 3: just what I'm told and they will now go to
- 48:20Speaker 3: the governor for his selection for when I am sold,
- 48:26Speaker 3: Texas says, Dave Trump promised he would not touch the
- 48:29Speaker 3: White House proper when building his ballroom. What would build
- 48:32Speaker 3: his separate structure. He did say that, He did say that.
- 48:35Speaker 3: He said there nothing would be demolished. And by golly,
- 48:39Speaker 3: I'm no construction expert. That looked like some demolishing going
- 48:42Speaker 3: on there last night. So what I saw, tex says
- 48:48Speaker 3: another broken promise from Trump. Well it looks like him,
- 48:53Speaker 3: it looks like But Dave Allen showing five Dye Live
- 48:57Speaker 3: is brought to you a parted by the All New

- 49:21Speaker 4: Let me see here.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Tex says, Hey, Dave, Hi, how about Disney raising their
- 49:28Speaker 3: subscription price? I thought things were supposed to get less
- 49:32Speaker 3: expensive and prices were to stop rising after Trump got elected.
- 49:35Speaker 4: The exact opposite is happening. I did not know.
- 49:38Speaker 3: I don't know the first thing about Disney, so I
- 49:40Speaker 3: couldn't answer that. You know something I read an article
- 49:45Speaker 3: totally unrelated. I read an article last night about Tvo.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Do you remember Tvo? When Tvo first came out, like
- 49:54Speaker 3: what twenty twenty five years ago, it was the be
- 49:56Speaker 3: all end all, you know, no more clunky VCRs, things
- 50:00Speaker 3: of that nature. Ti Vo is actually has announced they
- 50:04Speaker 3: are no longer gonna make the Tvo machine, the actual machine.
- 50:07Speaker 3: I didn't know it actually was a machine. To be
- 50:10Speaker 3: honest with you, I'm that I'm the last guy out
- 50:13Speaker 3: there if it still has cable. Okay, so I get
- 50:16Speaker 3: Tvo with my cable subscription, and so it's not a machine.
- 50:20Speaker 3: It's magic somehow. It's just in the back of my TV.
- 50:23Speaker 3: I don't know how it works, uh, but I got it.
- 50:30Speaker 4: It just works. But they're no longer making the machine.
- 50:33Speaker 3: From what I understand, text says Hulu will be combined
- 50:36Speaker 3: to do Disney Plus soon.
- 50:38Speaker 4: This is a texture. You gotta get me one of them.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Hulu's one of these days again, I'm gonna get a Hulu.
- 50:43Speaker 4: I'm gonna get that.
- 50:44Speaker 3: I'm gonna get me a TikTok one of these days too.
- 50:46Speaker 3: I'm gonna work on those two things. We talked about
- 50:48Speaker 3: this a little bit yesterday on Metro News mid Day.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Brad Michaelhanney leads story this morning at wv metronews dot com.
- 50:56Speaker 3: The I R S has filed two leans for unclaimed
- 51:01Speaker 3: taxes by Senator Jim Justice and his wife Kathy to
- 51:06Speaker 3: the two to more than eight million dollars.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Now.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Politico was the first to come out with this story,
- 51:11Speaker 3: and of course Brad expanded upon it on the air
- 51:13Speaker 3: and online. We had him on Metro News Midday during
- 51:15Speaker 3: the two o'clock hour yesterday, and he's got the lead story.
- 51:19Speaker 3: It's posted this morning at wv Metronews dot com The
- 51:23Speaker 3: leans were filed by the IRS with the Greenbrier County
- 51:27Speaker 3: Clerk's office going back to October second, and I will
- 51:33Speaker 3: spare you all the financials because well you know numbers
- 51:38Speaker 3: and you can read it for yourself as part of
- 51:41Speaker 3: Brad's story. The question that I would ask though, when
- 51:46Speaker 3: Brad posted the story yesterday and we went live with
- 51:49Speaker 3: it on the website then on the air with Brad yesterday,
- 51:51Speaker 3: is any of it going to matter when it pertains
- 51:56Speaker 3: to Jim Justice's popularity in West Virginia. And I'm gonna
- 51:59Speaker 3: get give you the answer to that. It is a big,
- 52:02Speaker 3: resounding no, Jim Justice is I am going to go
- 52:08Speaker 3: out on a limb here because certain things, some things
- 52:11Speaker 3: that the Trump administration done is anchored some of his
- 52:14Speaker 3: supporters in West Virginia. I must say, Jim Justice, they
- 52:17Speaker 3: knew all the financial issues before he was elected as
- 52:20Speaker 3: a Democrat didn't matter, and anything that's come out since
- 52:23Speaker 3: then simply has not mattered. He will remain as popular
- 52:26Speaker 3: as ever. Not passing judgment, just stating a fact.
- 52:31Speaker 4: All Right, we gotta go. Thank you so much.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Jim Workman of Walie Whipies and a Westernrginian Sports Writers Association.
