- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Kate Torber and coming up on today's show, Olivia White
- 0:13Speaker 1: jumps to Matt Sikowsky's defence, Sophie Jane Miller shocks her
- 0:17Speaker 1: followers and why Anna Paul got her lip filler dissolved.
- 0:20Speaker 1: But first, Lily Brown has revealed her pyjama business chill
- 0:24Speaker 1: almost sent her bankrupt. The OG influencer was forced to
- 0:28Speaker 1: borrow money from her dad and boyfriend Jet Kenney after
- 0:31Speaker 1: taking bad business advice from a family member. Oh, this
- 0:35Speaker 1: was so juicy. So she was interviewed on an influencer podcast.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And I think she has been dropping clues along the
- 0:41Speaker 1: way that she has found business really challenging. She's opened
- 0:44Speaker 1: up in the past about how being an influencer was
- 0:47Speaker 1: a lot easier than starting a business. But I don't
- 0:50Speaker 1: think we knew how dire it actually was. So Lily
- 0:53Speaker 1: shared that she went from being financially comfortable to almost
- 0:57Speaker 1: losing it all. Let's throw to what Lily had to say.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I just feel like my mindset kind of switched from
- 1:05Speaker 2: being financially comfortable for a while, I would say, and
- 1:09Speaker 2: then obviously investing all the money into chill that I
- 1:11Speaker 2: had made. And then going from feeling like that was
- 1:15Speaker 2: going super well to then I invested all of the
- 1:17Speaker 2: money in the business account into a specific collection as
- 1:21Speaker 2: per the advice that I was given. And the collection
- 1:25Speaker 2: rocked up in the complete wrong fabric and the complete
- 1:27Speaker 2: wrong colors. And it was a summer collection that I
- 1:29Speaker 2: ended up having to launch in winter. And the whole
- 1:32Speaker 2: thing cost me about $ 110, 000. That is a lot of
- 1:36Speaker 2: money to lose.
- 1:37Speaker 1: $ 110, 000. It is interesting to know how much influencers are
- 1:42Speaker 1: actually putting into these collections. Can you imagine having the
- 1:46Speaker 1: wrong pajamas arrive knowing that you were about to go
- 1:48Speaker 1: to launch? This is a nightmare for her. particularly because
- 1:51Speaker 1: she took advice from a family member. So she didn't
- 1:53Speaker 1: actually say who it was. I'm guessing it was an
- 1:55Speaker 1: uncle because she said that they are the only family
- 1:59Speaker 1: that they have in Queensland. And she referred to them
- 2:01Speaker 1: as being a male. And now her parents aren't talking
- 2:04Speaker 1: to them. So it's very messy. Well, doesn't everyone say
- 2:07Speaker 1: that you should never work with family? We clearly haven't
- 2:09Speaker 1: listened to that one. Well, after that launch, Lily was
- 2:12Speaker 1: forced to move out of her home because she couldn't
- 2:14Speaker 1: actually afford to pay her rent any longer. She said
- 2:17Speaker 1: that she ended up selling a bunch of her stuff
- 2:19Speaker 1: just to get cash to pay for removalists. And after
- 2:23Speaker 1: she sold all her stuff, her hair was falling out.
- 2:25Speaker 1: She couldn't sleep. She broke out in hives. It had
- 2:28Speaker 1: a really big impact on her. Well, she also said
- 2:31Speaker 1: that she had to change managers because her manager at
- 2:34Speaker 1: the time wasn't earning her enough money. And she spoke
- 2:37Speaker 1: about how she had to put this facade online because
- 2:40Speaker 1: she said, you can't really talk about your business struggles
- 2:43Speaker 1: when you're the face of a brand. Let's have a
- 2:45Speaker 1: listen to what she said.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just like this icky, sad, stressful situation. But,
- 2:52Speaker 2: of course, like I'm still my own personal brand. So
- 2:56Speaker 2: on Instagram, you can't pretend that everything's fucked, can you?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Everyone's still expecting you to show up every day like, hey, guys,
- 3:03Speaker 2: everything's all good and sweet and like there's nothing wrong. But, yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 2: it was fucking dire, like really, really stressful. My hair
- 3:11Speaker 2: was falling out.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I found that really interesting because a lot of people
- 3:14Speaker 1: talk about how it's really important for influencers to be
- 3:17Speaker 1: transparent but when your business is so closely linked to
- 3:21Speaker 1: your personal brand it would be so tricky and it
- 3:24Speaker 1: does make a lot of sense because last year we
- 3:27Speaker 1: spoke about how Lily's brand, Chill, launched these pajamas and
- 3:31Speaker 1: they ended up smelling. And she was very defensive at
- 3:34Speaker 1: the time. And I have a bit more empathy for
- 3:36Speaker 1: her now because who knew that all of this was
- 3:38Speaker 1: going on in the background? Well, it's a hard one,
- 3:40Speaker 1: isn't it? Because when you're trying to build confidence in
- 3:43Speaker 1: a small brand, you hardly want to say to your
- 3:45Speaker 1: potential consumers, oh, we've just lost 110K because you'd be thinking, well,
- 3:50Speaker 1: am I actually going to get pajamas if I go
- 3:52Speaker 1: and buy them? So I can see why Lily kept
- 3:54Speaker 1: this a secret, but it's great she's talking about it
- 3:57Speaker 1: now because it makes her a lot more likable. I
- 4:00Speaker 1: think the fact that she's been able to turn her
- 4:02Speaker 1: business around as well, it's obviously doing a lot better,
- 4:05Speaker 1: which is probably why she's felt comfortable to share. Yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 1: she did say that her business was on the up.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I also think it's a bit of a warning for
- 4:11Speaker 1: other influencers because a lot of people, I mean, it
- 4:14Speaker 1: was on Madison Woolley's podcast and she has also started
- 4:17Speaker 1: her own business and I could see her nodding her
- 4:19Speaker 1: head in agreeance because A lot of people just assume
- 4:22Speaker 1: when you've got a built-in audience that you're going to
- 4:24Speaker 1: be very successful and your products are just going to sell.
- 4:27Speaker 1: But the fact that she only sold one piece of
- 4:29Speaker 1: clothing after a launch night is absolutely crazy. Yeah, I
- 4:33Speaker 1: couldn't believe that because most of the time influencers like
- 4:36Speaker 1: to put this rhetoric out there, we've sold out on everything.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And you just think that anytime an influencer puts their
- 4:42Speaker 1: name to a product, oh, well, they're going to do well,
- 4:44Speaker 1: it's going to sell out. But we've spoken about this before.
- 4:47Speaker 1: often influencers will only put out a small sample of
- 4:51Speaker 1: clothing and they'll test out the market and then they'll
- 4:54Speaker 1: make this big song and dance that they've sold out
- 4:56Speaker 1: when in actual fact, maybe they've only sold a hundred products.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And then they'll do a pre-order and actually find out
- 5:00Speaker 1: how many people really want the product. Another interesting thing
- 5:04Speaker 1: Lily touched upon in that interview was the fact that
- 5:06Speaker 1: she's moved into Jet Kenny's dad's house. So we did
- 5:09Speaker 1: speak about that a couple of months ago. She confirmed
- 5:12Speaker 1: that she's not paying any rent and Basically, all she
- 5:15Speaker 1: has to do is cook Jet and his dad food.
- 5:18Speaker 1: That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, especially
- 5:20Speaker 1: in the current climate where rent is just ridiculous.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Well, she also said recently that Jet's friend and partner
- 5:26Speaker 1: moved in and she's like, oh, it's cool. We have
- 5:28Speaker 1: one wing of the house. And I mean, this is
- 5:29Speaker 1: an absolute mansion that they're living in. Do you think
- 5:32Speaker 1: one of the reasons why she didn't share about her
- 5:34Speaker 1: financial struggles initially was because being an OG influencer... sometimes
- 5:40Speaker 1: they have to put across this facade that they're rich.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And that's one of the reasons why people like to
- 5:44Speaker 1: follow them because their content is aspirational. Do you think
- 5:48Speaker 1: she thought, fuck, no one's going to want to follow
- 5:50Speaker 1: me if I'm some broke influencer on the Gold Coast?
- 5:52Speaker 1: It's ironic because a lot of the OG influencers do
- 5:56Speaker 1: seem broke. It seems like they made a lot of
- 5:58Speaker 1: money at the time and now they're having to revert
- 6:01Speaker 1: to normal jobs. I mean, look at Michael Finch. He's
- 6:03Speaker 1: back on the up because he's got a lot of
- 6:05Speaker 1: TikTok followers now doing- followers. Yeah. But he looks like
- 6:08Speaker 1: he lives a pretty normal life. Like he's not flashing
- 6:11Speaker 1: the cash anymore. He's not buying designer items. And he's
- 6:14Speaker 1: probably doing better than he was back then.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I found it really interesting that Lily said that she
- 6:20Speaker 1: spent all the money that she had earned on her
- 6:22Speaker 1: influence in Korea and put it into this business. And
- 6:24Speaker 1: then she put that figure of 110K out there because
- 6:28Speaker 1: does that mean that that's all she had saved up? Well,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of influencers out there who
- 6:34Speaker 1: you assume are earning these big bucks, but actually I
- 6:36Speaker 1: think they're more likely earning minimum wage. Yeah, but I
- 6:39Speaker 1: think she would have been earning big bucks. I'm not
- 6:42Speaker 1: saying that $ 110, 000 is not a lot of money, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: I would have thought the paychecks that were coming in,
- 6:47Speaker 1: she would have saved a lot more. I think that
- 6:49Speaker 1: maybe she was spending a lot of money at the time. Yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 1: think about it. In the 2017s, at the height of
- 6:55Speaker 1: Lily Brown and Michael Finch and Shani Gruen's fame, they
- 6:57Speaker 1: were all buying Balenciaga clothing and bags and I don't
- 7:01Speaker 1: think a lot of them thought about the future. They
- 7:03Speaker 1: probably just thought, wow, this money is going to continue
- 7:06Speaker 1: throughout our careers. And it seems to have really dried
- 7:09Speaker 1: up for a lot of influencers.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And the market is so saturated now that they're having
- 7:13Speaker 1: to compete with people that really take content creation to
- 7:16Speaker 1: the next level. They're creating 10 TikTok videos a day. Well,
- 7:20Speaker 1: I saw some crazy figure. It was something like there
- 7:23Speaker 1: are 12 million influencers in America right now. So it
- 7:27Speaker 1: just shows you how oversaturated this market is. Well, they're
- 7:30Speaker 1: keeping our podcast in business. This is what I look
- 7:34Speaker 1: like naturally. Anna Paul is the latest influencer to reverse
- 7:37Speaker 1: her cosmetic enhancements. The only fan star announced to her
- 7:41Speaker 1: 7.2 million followers that she's reverting back to her natural appearance.
- 7:45Speaker 1: This video has gone off on TikTok. It's already had
- 7:48Speaker 1: 4.6 million views. And in the video, you see Anna
- 7:52Speaker 1: getting her lips dissolved and she also box dyed her
- 7:55Speaker 1: hair back to its natural brown. I was surprised that
- 7:57Speaker 1: she'd use a box dye. I've seen her do it
- 7:59Speaker 1: before on her TikTok and all I could think about
- 8:01Speaker 1: was Sam Mangan, who actually is her business partner, going
- 8:04Speaker 1: on about Karen's box dyeing their hair. It did look
- 8:07Speaker 1: really nice. It probably influenced a lot of people to
- 8:10Speaker 1: try the box dyes out, but that was not the
- 8:12Speaker 1: point of the video. I want to throw to a
- 8:14Speaker 1: grab of Anna's reaction after she got her lip filler dissolved.
- 8:18Speaker 1: This is what I looked like when I was 14,
- 8:20Speaker 1: like the smile.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I can't believe I didn't do this early on.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I feel so good. I looked at myself in the
- 8:24Speaker 1: mirror sometimes and I thought something's off.
- 8:27Speaker 4: It's because I altered my face, obviously.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I could not get over the transformation. She looks absolutely incredible.
- 8:34Speaker 1: She looks so much younger for one thing and really fresh.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I think you forget that Anna Paul's only 25 because
- 8:40Speaker 1: she's already had so much success in her career. But
- 8:44Speaker 1: now with the lip filler dissolved... She looks 25. And
- 8:47Speaker 1: I think that was a big motivator because in this TikTok,
- 8:50Speaker 1: she did a throwback to what she used to look
- 8:51Speaker 1: like at 19 and 20. I could not believe it.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Her lips were so large. It was very that duck pout.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So her lips have been getting smaller over time. But
- 9:02Speaker 1: don't you think we're seeing more of that now? Like
- 9:04Speaker 1: obviously a few years ago, Molly May started the trend
- 9:07Speaker 1: by dissolving her lips. I feel like a lot of
- 9:09Speaker 1: influencers are thinking now it's almost embarrassing to have those
- 9:12Speaker 1: really big duck lips because it seems like a trend
- 9:15Speaker 1: that was very 2017 and now.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Very much people want to be natural. And if you
- 9:20Speaker 1: think about it, a lot of those influences have hit
- 9:23Speaker 1: mid twenties. And when you're younger, it's all about looking older.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But when you start to approach your thirties, it's all
- 9:29Speaker 1: about reversing time and looking younger. Can I just point
- 9:32Speaker 1: out 25 is so young.
- 9:34Speaker 4: It is.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It definitely is. But a lot of these influences are
- 9:36Speaker 1: looking a lot older because of the cosmetic enhancements that
- 9:39Speaker 1: they've had. And I think they suddenly realized that Now,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I don't think it is a coincidence that a lot
- 9:45Speaker 1: of influencers get cosmetic procedures in the first place because
- 9:49Speaker 1: they're always looking at themselves. It's kind of like when
- 9:52Speaker 1: you go on holiday and you're not used to seeing
- 9:54Speaker 1: lots of photos of yourself and you're like, is that
- 9:56Speaker 1: what I look like? Yeah, well, not only, I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 1: they're filming themselves. They're having to. edit themselves. It would
- 10:01Speaker 1: be absolutely hideous to stare at a photo of yourself.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Even for example, when I worked as a journalist, having
- 10:08Speaker 1: to hear your voice back every day, you suddenly start
- 10:11Speaker 1: to pick these faults. You're like, do I actually sound
- 10:12Speaker 1: like that? And now that podcast filming is a thing, like,
- 10:16Speaker 1: we are always picking ourselves apart on there. So I
- 10:19Speaker 1: totally get it. In saying that, I was so surprised
- 10:23Speaker 1: the other day when I flicked on YouTube and my
- 10:25Speaker 1: favorite YouTuber, Sophie Jane Miller, revealed that she got rhinoplasty.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So this surgery has completely come out of nowhere. She
- 10:32Speaker 1: went MIA on social media for a couple of weeks,
- 10:34Speaker 1: which Isn't unusual. Sometimes she's not so regular in posting videos.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And then she returned with this vlog entitled, I got
- 10:41Speaker 1: a nose job. Yeah. I was shocked as well, because
- 10:44Speaker 1: if I'm being honest, it was because I'd never noticed
- 10:47Speaker 1: any kind of issue with Sophie's nose. She's a very
- 10:50Speaker 1: conventionally good looking girl.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And Sophie later revealed in this vlog that she had
- 10:55Speaker 1: gone to these great lengths not to show herself from
- 10:58Speaker 1: certain angles, because she didn't like the way her nose looked.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It makes me want to look back at the videos
- 11:03Speaker 1: because I actually was scrolling through her Instagram the other
- 11:06Speaker 1: night being like, I am so shocked. And again, it
- 11:11Speaker 1: is absolutely her decision whether she wants to have plastic surgery.
- 11:15Speaker 1: She is entitled to make that decision. I wholeheartedly agree
- 11:19Speaker 1: with that. It's her body, her choice. But I can't
- 11:22Speaker 1: deny that I felt sad because the fact that she
- 11:25Speaker 1: thought that she needed to change something on her face.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And I was thinking about the people that follow her
- 11:30Speaker 1: and probably were also shocked by this announcement. And I
- 11:33Speaker 1: think we can all agree that yes, it's her decision,
- 11:37Speaker 1: but also feel sad about it because this is a
- 11:39Speaker 1: major surgery for someone to have. Yeah. And I think
- 11:41Speaker 1: it ties into what you were saying before about how
- 11:44Speaker 1: much of that came down to watching herself back and
- 11:47Speaker 1: picking herself apart because her job is being a content
- 11:50Speaker 1: creator or how much of it came from people picking
- 11:53Speaker 1: her apart in comments about something that wasn't an issue.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I mean, her nose looks incredible now after the surgery.
- 11:59Speaker 1: It looked incredible before. And she has got a lot
- 12:03Speaker 1: of praise for actually sharing her surgery online. A lot
- 12:07Speaker 1: of people have said, oh, I'm glad that you were
- 12:08Speaker 1: transparent about it. I mean, I think it would have
- 12:11Speaker 1: been pretty obvious if she had come back from a
- 12:13Speaker 1: two-week break and suddenly her nose was looking slightly different.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Well, she was very open in the comment section. So
- 12:20Speaker 1: she did reply to someone saying that they weren't sure
- 12:22Speaker 1: about how they felt about her sharing the experience. And
- 12:25Speaker 1: she said that it was a catch-22 for her. She wrote,
- 12:28Speaker 1: half of me didn't want to promote it at all,
- 12:30Speaker 1: but the other half wanted to be completely honest and
- 12:32Speaker 1: I never wanted to lie slash not say that I
- 12:34Speaker 1: had it done. I tend to agree with her and
- 12:37Speaker 1: I don't know how I feel about all of this
- 12:39Speaker 1: because recently Indy Clinton, got slammed because she went offline
- 12:43Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks. She said she was taking
- 12:44Speaker 1: a break and she came back with a breast augmentation.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And she was forced to come out and say, yes,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I did get a boob job, but I didn't really
- 12:52Speaker 1: want to promote it. And it was an interesting decision
- 12:54Speaker 1: for her because that would have been great content for
- 12:56Speaker 1: her TikTok. That would have gone off. It would have
- 12:58Speaker 1: got lots of views. Well, I respect Indy for not
- 13:01Speaker 1: sharing it, but I also respect Sophie for sharing her
- 13:04Speaker 1: journey because people might say, oh, but she's promoting it.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I watched the vlog and I thought, fuck, I couldn't
- 13:10Speaker 1: think of anything worse than getting a nose job because
- 13:12Speaker 1: she went through the realities of the recovery process. And
- 13:16Speaker 1: she even spoke about when she got the bandages off
- 13:18Speaker 1: and she said, at first I thought, oh my God,
- 13:21Speaker 1: what have I done? I don't like my nose. And
- 13:23Speaker 1: I think that would make a lot of people who
- 13:25Speaker 1: were considering getting the surgery think twice and think, well,
- 13:27Speaker 1: do I really want to go through all of that? Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I suppose it depends how an influencer actually documents their journey.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I think you can tell when an influencer has got
- 13:36Speaker 1: the procedure for free and everything's glossed over. I do
- 13:40Speaker 1: think that there is a difference between being transparent and
- 13:43Speaker 1: actually promoting the surgery. So I do like it when
- 13:46Speaker 1: influencers come out and say, oh yes, I've had X, Y,
- 13:48Speaker 1: and Z done, but I still am on the fence
- 13:51Speaker 1: about actually documenting the process because I do think even
- 13:54Speaker 1: if you do share the bad side of it, it
- 13:57Speaker 1: does come across as promotional. But in Sophie's instance, Because
- 14:01Speaker 1: it was quite a shock to people because she'd never
- 14:03Speaker 1: spoken about her nose being an insecurity. I feel like
- 14:07Speaker 1: she almost had to put that content out there kind
- 14:09Speaker 1: of as an explanation. Like if she had just popped
- 14:11Speaker 1: up on her channel saying, oh, and I've got a
- 14:14Speaker 1: nose job, but I don't want to speak about it.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Everyone would be like, what the fuck? Like, yeah, it
- 14:18Speaker 1: does depend on the relationship you have with your audience,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I suppose. I mean, that sort of content is just
- 14:24Speaker 1: so prevalent now on TikTok, particularly in the space of
- 14:26Speaker 1: breast implants. Like there are so many influencers documenting their procedures.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And again, you have the other side of it where
- 14:33Speaker 1: there's so many people getting explant surgeries and documenting that.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So I honestly don't know how I feel about it.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I think it depends on each individual case and how
- 14:42Speaker 1: the influencer deals with it. But do you think it's
- 14:44Speaker 1: a bit different as well? Because with a breast augmentation,
- 14:48Speaker 1: if you're not sharing, say, bikini photos of yourself, not
- 14:51Speaker 1: everyone's going to instantly notice that you've had it done.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But if you go off and have a nose job
- 14:56Speaker 1: or something that's a very prominent feature on your face,
- 14:59Speaker 1: People are going to be asking questions about it.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It's not as easy to cover up. No, you can't
- 15:03Speaker 1: really hide it, can you? I mean, back in the day,
- 15:06Speaker 1: celebrities would be like, oh, yes, I always had an
- 15:09Speaker 1: injury to my nose that I just needed to get fixed.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I think the worst crime is just that he's a
- 15:15Speaker 3: bit boring, which is not illegal.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Lifestyle influencer Olivia White has defended Matt Sikowsky's behaviour on
- 15:23Speaker 1: a recent influencer trip. The 35-year-old influencer stepped in after
- 15:28Speaker 1: her vision from the event was used to build what
- 15:30Speaker 1: she says was a false narrative. Now, Amy, before we
- 15:34Speaker 1: dive into it, can you bring us up to speed? Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: so we spoke about this on Tuesday. Some photos emerged
- 15:40Speaker 1: of Matt Sikowsky out and about on an influencer trip,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and he was seen canoodling with a brunette woman and
- 15:46Speaker 1: also a blonde woman. I love the word canoodling. Yeah,
- 15:49Speaker 1: a lot of people put two and two together and
- 15:51Speaker 1: came up with five, really. I mean, I thought it
- 15:53Speaker 1: was blown away. majorly out of proportion. But I suppose
- 15:57Speaker 1: he's just been so shady in the past that everyone
- 15:59Speaker 1: came to a conclusion that he must be cheating.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 1: So basically these images popped up on Reddit and then
- 16:05Speaker 1: the Daily Mail ran with the headline. It was something
- 16:07Speaker 1: like Matt Skakowski seen chatting up brunette woman in pub.
- 16:11Speaker 1: But these women were part of an influencer trip that
- 16:14Speaker 1: Matt was on. I do want to point out We
- 16:17Speaker 1: have only identified two of the women. So I had
- 16:20Speaker 1: a bit of an argument off air with Sophie because
- 16:22Speaker 1: I said, you guys named two of the influencers that
- 16:24Speaker 1: were on the trip. But the main one in question
- 16:27Speaker 1: from having a stalk, I believe she was a friend
- 16:30Speaker 1: of Amy Petrovic. I don't think she was actually a
- 16:32Speaker 1: part of the trip. I think she must have met
- 16:34Speaker 1: up with them at the bar. But let's be honest.
- 16:36Speaker 1: The facial expression that she was pulling did not say
- 16:38Speaker 1: that she was interested in Matt. She looked like she
- 16:40Speaker 1: was rolling her eyes. She also had her arms crossed
- 16:43Speaker 1: against her chest. So this influencer trip was for a
- 16:47Speaker 1: private jet company called Flight Club. I did love on
- 16:50Speaker 1: Matt's post, the number one comment was, did Tammy pay
- 16:53Speaker 1: for this? Because he didn't actually disclose the partnership properly. Well,
- 16:57Speaker 1: to make matters worse, while all of this was unfolding,
- 16:59Speaker 1: Tammy was in Greece for her retreat that she's running.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I kept seeing photos pop up of her in bikinis
- 17:05Speaker 1: and she got absolutely roasted in the comments because one
- 17:09Speaker 1: of the photos showed off her new breast implants and
- 17:11Speaker 1: people were like, I can see a nipple. And they
- 17:13Speaker 1: were being just so awful. Yes, people are very harsh.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Now on Tuesday, we discussed some very bizarre looking footage
- 17:20Speaker 1: that ended up on an influencer snark page. And so
- 17:24Speaker 1: for now, we're quite confused by the vision because it
- 17:27Speaker 1: looked like CCTV vision But it turns out that this
- 17:31Speaker 1: vision was actually filmed by influencer Olivia White. So Olivia
- 17:36Speaker 1: has weighed into this drama. She told her followers that
- 17:38Speaker 1: she was invited on this trip and she actually set
- 17:41Speaker 1: up a time lapse to capture the social darts element
- 17:44Speaker 1: of this event. And the reason the vision looked weird
- 17:48Speaker 1: is because the time lapse was drastically zoomed in. Let's
- 17:51Speaker 1: have a listen to what Olivia said.
- 17:53Speaker 3: All the ones being like a spy has like intentionally
- 17:57Speaker 3: set up a camera. No, that was me. That was
- 18:00Speaker 3: my video of me just filming us playing darts, you know,
- 18:05Speaker 3: sharing the thing that we were doing that is like work.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Now, Olivia said she felt compelled to set the record
- 18:13Speaker 1: straight on what actually went down as her vision was
- 18:16Speaker 1: being used to build, I quote, a false story. Now,
- 18:20Speaker 1: before we throw to more of what Olivia had to say,
- 18:23Speaker 1: for context, Olivia posts a lot of content about Disney.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And Taylor Swift. Yes. Particularly leading into the Iris tour.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I enjoyed that. So she does refer to Matt as Mike,
- 18:34Speaker 1: who was the green one-eyed monster from Disney. Let's have
- 18:37Speaker 1: a listen to what she said. But there was a
- 18:39Speaker 1: guy that came on the trip. I didn't know him,
- 18:42Speaker 1: never met him. His name's like Mike Wazowski.
- 18:45Speaker 4: And there's like now freaking all these articles and pages,
- 18:50Speaker 4: like daily mail, like apparently like some big scandal.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And I'm just like, Where do you people get this stuff?
- 18:59Speaker 1: Because I was there.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I was there. In fact, half of this was taken
- 19:04Speaker 4: from my content, my stories.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And the stuff that these people are saying is wild.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And people are like, oh my God, he was like
- 19:13Speaker 1: talking to girls. Um, there was like 10 of.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Us and like literally he might've said one thing to
- 19:22Speaker 4: like one person, but he was literally just hanging out
- 19:25Speaker 4: with the boys.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And I was like, that's a bit douchey. It sounds
- 19:28Speaker 1: like Matt was on strict instructions. Do not talk to
- 19:32Speaker 1: any girls on this trip. He is aware that all
- 19:35Speaker 1: eyes are on him in the lead up to this wedding. Yeah,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I can imagine Tammy and her sisters laying down the
- 19:41Speaker 1: law for him. It's pretty funny that Olivia labelled him
- 19:44Speaker 1: douchey and said that he was very cold to all
- 19:47Speaker 1: the women there. I mean, I can see now why
- 19:49Speaker 1: he hasn't. to be because literally a photo of him
- 19:53Speaker 1: sort of standing next to a girl looking very unimpressed
- 19:56Speaker 1: by his presence has caused a lot of headaches for
- 19:59Speaker 1: him right now. What I don't get is why did
- 20:02Speaker 1: the Daily Mail pick up on this and run with it?
- 20:05Speaker 1: But literally days earlier, Megan Bassetto had done a full
- 20:08Speaker 1: podcast outlining all of these shady things that he allegedly did.
- 20:12Speaker 1: And we don't have one article written about it. I
- 20:14Speaker 1: get the vibe that the Daily Mail don't want to
- 20:16Speaker 1: attribute stuff to so dramatic because they are a rival
- 20:20Speaker 1: of theirs. But still, I mean, it's such, her podcast
- 20:23Speaker 1: was so juicy. And the details in that were much
- 20:26Speaker 1: more revealing than him just standing next to a woman
- 20:29Speaker 1: at an influencer event. whole thing was wrapped up by
- 20:32Speaker 1: 7pm and they got home to Melbourne a couple of
- 20:35Speaker 1: hours later. The Daily Mail was proponing it as this
- 20:38Speaker 1: boozy night out. It sounded all very bizarre, like they
- 20:40Speaker 1: were playing darts with one another. I mean, why did
- 20:43Speaker 1: he even agree to go on this trip? Like, was
- 20:45Speaker 1: he paid or was it just for the experience of
- 20:47Speaker 1: flying on a private jet? The fact he didn't tag
- 20:50Speaker 1: them or put paid partnership, I think it was just
- 20:52Speaker 1: a bit of a freebie. Maybe Tammy was away and
- 20:55Speaker 1: he thought, oh, it might be fun to go. It's
- 20:56Speaker 1: quite funny because while Olivia has gone into bat for
- 20:59Speaker 1: Matt and she's tried to set the record straight about
- 21:02Speaker 1: his behavior, she hasn't particularly painted him in the best light.
- 21:06Speaker 1: As you said, she called him a douchebag. A lot
- 21:08Speaker 1: of backhanded compliments. Yeah, he wasn't flirting with those girls
- 21:11Speaker 1: because he thought he was better than everyone. They didn't
- 21:13Speaker 1: talk to any of us. I think we should throw
- 21:15Speaker 1: more to what she said because it was very entertaining.
- 21:18Speaker 3: My first impression of him was kind of that he
- 21:22Speaker 3: was about as interesting as a spatula. Like, but that
- 21:25Speaker 3: was like his worst crime on this trip. Like, and
- 21:28Speaker 3: I don't know about anything else because this, this seems
- 21:30Speaker 3: to be like a whole thing, you know?
- 21:32Speaker 1: So I don't know any kind of backstory or whatever.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I'm just talking about this instance specifically. And like, I
- 21:39Speaker 3: did notice, I was looking at his posts about this
- 21:42Speaker 3: and he had tagged flight center instead of flight club,
- 21:45Speaker 3: which was actually who we were there with. And I
- 21:47Speaker 3: was like, I think he's a bit daft but, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 3: not illegal to be a bit, you know, not sharp
- 21:55Speaker 3: as tool in the shed vibes.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Olivia finished up by saying that she hopes Matt wasn't
- 22:00Speaker 1: offended by her analysis but knows he probably won't look
- 22:03Speaker 1: at her account anyway. Well, she even went as far
- 22:06Speaker 1: to say that he was boring, which she said isn't
- 22:08Speaker 1: illegal but probably not a great person to be having
- 22:12Speaker 1: on an influencer trip where you're trying to get to
- 22:14Speaker 1: know people and you're playing darts and socialising. Maybe not
- 22:17Speaker 1: so fun to hang around, but the company must be
- 22:19Speaker 1: absolutely thrilled that the promotion that this has given them.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Let's get into our highs and lows of the week. Amy,
- 22:26Speaker 1: I'll kick us off. My high of the week is
- 22:28Speaker 1: I have recently joined a Facebook group called Mums Christmas Facebook.
- 22:33Speaker 1: It is exceptional. It has 150,000 members and it is
- 22:37Speaker 1: getting me so excited for Christmas. Of course, tomorrow is
- 22:40Speaker 1: November 1, which I think is the appropriate time to
- 22:43Speaker 1: start getting festive. I think everyone's getting into it earlier
- 22:46Speaker 1: and earlier each year because I have seen a lot
- 22:48Speaker 1: of chat on Instagram and TikTok saying, look, November 1st,
- 22:53Speaker 1: that is officially when we can start celebrating Christmas. Well,
- 22:55Speaker 1: some of these women in this Facebook group, they've gone
- 22:58Speaker 1: too far. I'm sorry, I disagree. No, okay, get this.
- 23:02Speaker 1: They have already put their Christmas trees up, fully decorated.
- 23:05Speaker 1: My Christmas trees up. Yeah, but yours isn't decorated. They've
- 23:09Speaker 1: also bought every single one of their Christmas presents for
- 23:11Speaker 1: their family members and wrapped them. What? I couldn't believe it.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I could not believe it. Get a life. Yeah. I'm
- 23:18Speaker 1: just joking. It actually made me feel stressed. But part
- 23:24Speaker 1: of the fun, I think, of Christmas shopping is is
- 23:26Speaker 1: when you go to the shops and there's decorations and
- 23:29Speaker 1: there's carols playing. Like so many of the shops, they
- 23:31Speaker 1: don't actually put their official Christmas decorations up until Santa
- 23:36Speaker 1: is in the store. So while they might be selling
- 23:38Speaker 1: Christmas decorations, they're not playing carols. They don't have their
- 23:41Speaker 1: own in-store decorations set up. It's not a vibe. Well,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I suppose this is a mum's Facebook group and maybe
- 23:47Speaker 1: they don't have the time to be out and about
- 23:49Speaker 1: shopping with everyone else. But how do they have the time–
- 23:52Speaker 1: pre-Christmas to do it. Well, a lot of them have
- 23:54Speaker 1: said that they buy things throughout the year, but I
- 23:57Speaker 1: don't know how that works with kids because normally you
- 23:58Speaker 1: take them to see Santa and then they'll tell Santa
- 24:01Speaker 1: what they want. Anyway, I'm not shitting on this group
- 24:03Speaker 1: because I very much enjoy it. There looks like there's
- 24:05Speaker 1: some amazing women in there that are giving some brilliant advice.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And I came across this thing that I want to
- 24:10Speaker 1: do for Jack. So, and I feel a bit of
- 24:12Speaker 1: pressure because when you guys have kids, you're going to
- 24:16Speaker 1: have to do the same thing as me. So I
- 24:17Speaker 1: feel pressure if I'm going to start a new tradition,
- 24:19Speaker 1: but it's called a December 1st box. So originally I
- 24:22Speaker 1: thought I wanted to do a Christmas Eve box, but
- 24:24Speaker 1: these December 1st boxes make more sense to me because
- 24:27Speaker 1: you give them to your child at the start of
- 24:29Speaker 1: December and they have things like Christmas pajamas and Christmas
- 24:32Speaker 1: activities and Christmas books that you can actually enjoy throughout
- 24:35Speaker 1: the whole month rather than getting them all on Christmas Eve.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Do you hear me? person I've ever seen do this
- 24:40Speaker 1: is Anastasia Kingsnorth's mum the Christmas Eve box yeah the
- 24:43Speaker 1: Christmas and I always I agree I think well why
- 24:45Speaker 1: the fuck do they want these pyjamas they can wear
- 24:47Speaker 1: for one night I told Dale your idea of doing
- 24:51Speaker 1: this and he's like oh my god are you serious
- 24:53Speaker 1: like that is just so over the top but I
- 24:55Speaker 1: was like know. She's probably going to have bought that
- 24:58Speaker 1: stuff for Jack anyway, but it's this cute thing of
- 25:00Speaker 1: them getting excited for the holiday season. Yeah. I already
- 25:04Speaker 1: had all of the stuff and I'm like, oh, I
- 25:05Speaker 1: just need to make a box. So I want to
- 25:07Speaker 1: do a bit of a DIY. I might put it
- 25:08Speaker 1: on my TikTok. Do you know what would be so cute?
- 25:10Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 25:10Speaker 1: If you filmed every year, Jack opening the box, because
- 25:13Speaker 1: imagine having that for X amount of years and even
- 25:16Speaker 1: getting to see like Because you've got to remember those
- 25:18Speaker 1: pajamas for him when he grows up, that will be
- 25:20Speaker 1: like vintage Christmas pajamas.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And also I want to point out, you don't have
- 25:25Speaker 1: to always put new things in this box. It can
- 25:27Speaker 1: be recycled things. So it might be that you have
- 25:30Speaker 1: a special Christmas book that you put in the box
- 25:32Speaker 1: every year, the same one, and you just refresh it
- 25:34Speaker 1: with a few new things. There's so many good things
- 25:36Speaker 1: at the op shops. Right now is a good time
- 25:39Speaker 1: to go and check out the Christmas decorations. That is
- 25:42Speaker 1: a good recommendation. Now I'll get to my law of
- 25:44Speaker 1: the week. It is Christmas related as well. I have
- 25:47Speaker 1: been hanging out to take Jack to the Christmas pageant.
- 25:49Speaker 1: He'll be five months next week. And Rhys was telling me, oh,
- 25:53Speaker 1: he's too young to go. He won't enjoy it. Guess
- 25:55Speaker 1: who's going to enjoy it?
- 25:57Speaker 2: Me.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I wanted to go. I wanted to get into the
- 25:59Speaker 1: Christmas spirit. I wanted you to go. I wanted his
- 26:01Speaker 1: grandparents to go. I thought it would be a great
- 26:04Speaker 1: kickstart to the Christmas season. Unfortunately, it's 33 degrees that day. Normally,
- 26:09Speaker 1: I would love it, but I can't take him out
- 26:10Speaker 1: in 33 degree weather. So we're going to have to
- 26:12Speaker 1: watch it on the TV. And I'm so disappointed. Wait,
- 26:14Speaker 1: are we coming over to watch it with you? We can.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Because I think we should do like a big brunch
- 26:19Speaker 1: or something and make it a bit of a tradition. Yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm all for that. I'm all for starting new Christmas traditions.
- 26:24Speaker 1: So if anyone out there has any Christmas traditions that
- 26:26Speaker 1: they think are great for kids, because I'm on the
- 26:28Speaker 1: fence about doing Elf on the Shelf. I don't think
- 26:30Speaker 1: I have to do it this year, but I was
- 26:32Speaker 1: thinking of putting the Elf on the Shelf in Jack's
- 26:34Speaker 1: December 1st box. Aww. Maybe Elf on the Shelf could
- 26:38Speaker 1: do something each week or something, not every day. Yeah.
- 26:41Speaker 1: He's gone to sleep for a week. Look, so my
- 26:44Speaker 1: high of the week, it's a pretty exciting one. It's
- 26:47Speaker 1: that I'm going to be extending my family to an
- 26:50Speaker 1: extra kitten. Oh my God. I was like, what? Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 1: So a lot of the listeners might already know that
- 26:59Speaker 1: I have two beautiful rag dolls called Gigi and Bentley.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And Dale's mum, she's got a property up in the
- 27:04Speaker 1: hills and a cat has given birth to these four
- 27:07Speaker 1: kittens and they're looking for good homes for them. This
- 27:10Speaker 1: cat is the spitting image of our family, our previous
- 27:14Speaker 1: family cat, Lulu, and also Theodore. And I saw this
- 27:17Speaker 1: cat and I had just this connection with it. I
- 27:19Speaker 1: was like, oh my God, I love it. I didn't
- 27:21Speaker 1: think anything of it because I think Dale's already has
- 27:24Speaker 1: enough fluff from the two cats to deal with. He's
- 27:26Speaker 1: not a huge animal person. So I nearly died the
- 27:29Speaker 1: next day when he said to me, oh, I've been
- 27:31Speaker 1: thinking about you and that cat. And I think you
- 27:34Speaker 1: should get it. Well, what's the difference between two and
- 27:36Speaker 1: three cats? I mean, it'd be different if it was
- 27:38Speaker 1: a dog. Yeah. So I am looking for name suggestions.
- 27:41Speaker 1: We believe it's a little girl. So I was thinking
- 27:44Speaker 1: of Winnie. Well, I suggested Winnie because Gigi was named
- 27:48Speaker 1: after Gigi Hadid. We also had Lulu, which is an
- 27:51Speaker 1: old model. So I'm thinking Winnie Harlow. Yeah, well, Harlow,
- 27:55Speaker 1: very popular at the moment, thanks to Sarah's Day. Well,
- 27:58Speaker 1: Winnie works because if it turns out that this kitten
- 28:01Speaker 1: is a boy, it can be a boy's name. It
- 28:02Speaker 1: can be Winston. So anyway. Or Winifred, yeah.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Now, my low of the week is that Anna Kendrick's
- 28:09Speaker 1: new movie has come out on Netflix. It's been number
- 28:11Speaker 1: one in Australia. Please don't talk about it because I
- 28:14Speaker 1: hate scary movies and you started telling me about it
- 28:16Speaker 1: and it's just freaked me out. No, it's good. I mean,
- 28:19Speaker 1: it's worth watching. I was watching it by myself, so
- 28:22Speaker 1: I wouldn't recommend that. But anyway, because she has been
- 28:25Speaker 1: everywhere at the moment, we've spoken about it before. A
- 28:28Speaker 1: lot of people think that I in particular look like
- 28:31Speaker 1: Anna Kendrick. I did get it when I was in
- 28:33Speaker 1: Utah as well. Yeah. And so now everyone keeps coming
- 28:35Speaker 1: out of the woodwork. They're like, oh my God, you
- 28:37Speaker 1: look like Anna Kendrick. You look like Anna Kendrick. Not
- 28:39Speaker 1: that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it's just been quite.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Quite overwhelming, the amount of people saying it. Well, it
- 28:46Speaker 1: depressed me because there was a troll comment directed at
- 28:48Speaker 1: Anna Kendrick saying, oh, can this middle-aged woman stop whinging?
- 28:52Speaker 1: And I was like, middle-aged woman? And then I'm like,
- 28:54Speaker 1: she's 39. And then I had this spiral because I'm like, wow,
- 28:57Speaker 1: 40 actually is probably considered middle-aged. But how fucking good
- 29:00Speaker 1: does she look for 39? You'd never think that she
- 29:03Speaker 1: was 39. She looks like she's mid-20s. I actually really
- 29:07Speaker 1: enjoyed her interview on Call Her Daddy. I need to
- 29:09Speaker 1: listen to this. Oh, my God. I just want to
- 29:11Speaker 1: be friends with her after listening to her talking on there.
- 29:14Speaker 1: One of the funny things that she actually discussed was
- 29:17Speaker 1: one of her biggest fears, which is people seeing her
- 29:20Speaker 1: natural hair. So she presents herself with straight hair, but
- 29:23Speaker 1: what is it naturally? She presents herself straight. So, well, basically,
- 29:27Speaker 1: Alex Cooper said to her, what is the most high
- 29:30Speaker 1: maintenance thing about you? And she said, it's actually my hair.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Because I have, I'm like a secret curly. What?
- 29:36Speaker 2: I'm like a secret, like, like, like Keri Russell and
- 29:39Speaker 2: Felicity level curly.
- 29:41Speaker 1: You have gorgeous hair. Well, you know, it's not really
- 29:45Speaker 1: what my hair looks like. With her wealth, why does
- 29:49Speaker 1: she not get it chemically straightened? I'm not sure, but
- 29:51Speaker 1: she said that it has become such a big deal
- 29:54Speaker 1: that she has never shown her friends up until recently
- 29:57Speaker 1: what her natural hair looks like. So she said that
- 30:00Speaker 1: she had to do kind of this big reveal. She
- 30:01Speaker 1: had to warn her friends like, I'm coming down. This
- 30:04Speaker 1: is what my hair looks like just after I've blow
- 30:06Speaker 1: dried it. It's not nice. And she said that she
- 30:09Speaker 1: even did a reveal to her therapist because it was
- 30:12Speaker 1: such a huge concern of hers. So it made me
- 30:14Speaker 1: like her even more because you think these movie stars,
- 30:17Speaker 1: what issues do they have? Well, I mean, it's not
- 30:20Speaker 1: a huge one, but it also made me think I
- 30:23Speaker 1: really want to see what her hair looks like.
- 30:25Speaker 2: I know.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Can I only imagine? I mean, I kind of relate.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I don't like my hair naturally dried, but I now
- 30:31Speaker 1: wear it wet and I pull it back in a
- 30:32Speaker 1: ponytail all the time. Well, on that note, I probably
- 30:35Speaker 1: could talk about hair for another two hours, but we
- 30:36Speaker 1: will leave you to the rest of your Thursday. Thank
- 30:41Speaker 1: you again for listening. This episode was recorded on the
- 30:44Speaker 1: traditional land of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains.
- 30:47Speaker 1: We pay respect to elders past and present. And if
- 30:49Speaker 1: you do enjoy the show, tomorrow we are dropping a
- 30:51Speaker 1: subscriber-only episode, which we're about to record now. Yes, and
- 30:55Speaker 1: don't forget to follow Outspoken on TikTok and also on Instagram.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And while you're away, Kate, Sophie and I kept plugging
- 31:01Speaker 1: our own TikTok accounts. It was quite insufferable. Well, I
- 31:04Speaker 1: actually am putting up a recent TikTok of our Halloween
- 31:07Speaker 1: party and how I managed to... get all this shit
- 31:10Speaker 1: organized in about two hours. So if you want to
- 31:13Speaker 1: check that out. And if I get my act together,
- 31:15Speaker 1: I might put a TikTok up about my 1st of
- 31:16Speaker 1: December box. Yes, definitely. Well, thank you guys so much
- 31:20Speaker 1: for listening.
