Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by jingyag.com and fueled by brass tax coffee as always right now as promised we are talking about the Jaguar's offensive line specifically the left tackle position a couple players and it's on Harrison, Colvin, Lannon different things going on right now
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited to get into it for sure, and it's just something like, you know, when we have all these days of training camp and everything like, I want to focus on what's going on in the practices and all that stuff, but today is a day off, no Jaguars training camp practice today.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I figured it would be a good day to kind of take a look at the Anton Harrison situation, the left tackle situation for the Jaguar, so I'm excited to get into it.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, all Jags all the time.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Please like and subscribe.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: A lot, basically, this conversation stems from the fact that A, Cole Van Lannon, still on the active slash PUP, recovering from a knee injury that he suffered in week 18 against the Titans.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: Looks good.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: The vibe is good.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: The sentiment from Head Coach Liam Cohen is that he'll be ready for the start of the season.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: He's confident in that.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: But with no Colvin Lannon, the Jaguar's have been experimenting, and I believe, I mean, it's the last three or four practices, Anton Harrison has been playing left tackle.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Initially, the word was, you know, we cross train our guys, this is what we do.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: We move players around.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: We did this last year, we're doing it again this year.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: We want players to be comfortable at different spots.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: Should they be needed there.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, a couple of days ago, Liam Cohen was asked about on moving Anton Harrison around.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what Liam Cohen had to say.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think he's done a nice job.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's part of what we've done moving those guys around and seeing what sticks.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: And if that ends up sticking him playing left tackle, hopefully that's a good thing for us.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's put together five good practices so far that you're pleased to see with seeing the consistency.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's something we're continuously challenging, not just with Anton, but with the entire unit and group is just consistency.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Consistent effort, consistent technique, consistent finish.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I've been pleased with him to's handling it pretty seamlessly so far.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: That comment, you know,
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: If it ends up sticking, hopefully, that's a good thing for us.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: To me, that leaves the door open, like, wide open, for Anton Harrison to potentially be the Jaguar starting left tackle.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Which is interesting.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: What do I think about that?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Anton played left tackle in college.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like this is some brand new thing.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, since he's been in Jacksonville, which has been three years, he's played right tackle.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: hasn't played any left tackle for the Jaguars outside of practice so yeah that part of it is intriguing like it's just been a while even though that was his position in college.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: I was actually nervous when the Jaguars initially were going to switch him to right tackle like how that would go.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: obviously if you're a really good player you can probably do either and he has a really good player but yeah he's been playing right tackle the last three years switch back to left tackle
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it looks clunky or anything like that.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I did hear one person who would have some expertise on offensive lines and he looked a little upright, but I don't think that's necessarily here and over there considering he's been playing well at Left Tackle for the most part for the Jaguars over these last several practices.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: Part of the question is like, so if COVID-19 is not ready,
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: four week one against the Browns.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Would you rather have Anton Harris and out there at left tackle and potentially walk her little at right tackle?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair question.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Walker Little hasn't really played much right tackle in his career.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's mostly played left tackle.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, I mean, his best tape was at right guard, which was surprising, but it was
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to switch up on Walker a little like he literally in his career walk a little has 232,390 snaps out left tackle 47 at right tackle.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: So again, this is not something that he's done a lot of.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's not something he's looked particularly good doing.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I have confidence that ants on can play left tackle better than Walker little can, but it's like are you potentially making two guys, two positions worse by moving both of them?
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: You might just be making right tackle worse.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: You're upgrading left tackle in my opinion.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: If you put ants on over at left tackle, it's just something to consider.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: could be like a matchup based thing, you know, if you're going up against the team where you have a guy, who's a superstar edge, who pretty much only rushes off the defensive right side, offensive left side.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you definitely wanna answer on over there.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: But then you also don't wanna be playing musical chairs on the offensive line consistently week to week because you want continuity between the players that are playing next to each other.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think ultimately, the real question is, once Colve and Lannon is back, which, again, it's supposed to be four week one, not 100% confirmed yet until he's actually practicing out there and competing and team and all that stuff, but, it's supposed to be for week one.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Once he's back, because again, it seems like Liam Cohen left that door wide open for ants on hair, so to stick at left tackle.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: Once Colvin lands back, and you're starting tackle duo is clearly defined as Colvin lands on Harrison right now.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: Do you leave Anton at left tackle?
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: And move Colvin over to right tackle.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm of two minds with it, because I think clearly Anton is an ascending right tackle.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Clearly, Colvin and Lannan played extremely well at left tackle last year.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to shake that up?
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want Colman landed to not only have had to rehab all off season, but then also switch sides, which he played a lot at different positions last year and did a good job.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think his best tape was that left tackled though.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: And he's played different spots throughout his career.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like that's completely foreign to him.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: But it's one of those things like, do you really need to upset the apple cart there?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: You've already paid Colman landing.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: One thing that's interesting about it is Anton Harrison, he is going into his fourth year.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty-27 will be his fifth year, fifth year option year.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars, they could go ahead and sign him, they could wait till next off season.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, they should not wait until following 2020-27.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: They should do it before the 2020-27 season.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: If he's playing left tackle, he's gonna make significantly more money.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: So that's another factor here, and I don't think it should be something the coaching staff cares about, the coaching staff should care about getting the best five on the field in the best positions for them.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so it is just an interesting piece of it, the money.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's a big gap.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: The highest paid left tackle is getting 30 million per year.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: The highest paid right tackle is getting 25.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that's a big app.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Tristan Worse in Penaisool, yeah, they both played right tackle, they both played left tackle now.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something to keep in mind.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not like Anton would be getting paid at the top top of the market.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: in all likelihood.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think he has the ability to go out there and dominate this year and potentially get paid at the top of the market.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Former first round pick, super athlete, great, you know, just physical, you know, got the length and the strength and everything.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: And if he puts it all together and has a dominant season, sure.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: What I will say, whatever the Jaguar is coaching staff, whatever decision they come to, Liam Cohen and company, I'll have confidence in that.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: If it's Anton Plan Left Tackle, Cold Meal Land and Plan Right Tackle, I'll have confidence in it.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably not what I would do.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably keep me Anton at Right Tackle and Cold Left Tackle just to have continuity moving forward.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars were so excited about having the same starting five, coming back for 2026.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the combination and chemistry between Colvin and Landon and Ezra Cleveland, I thought was very strong at left tackle in left guard.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: And Ton Harrison was really good at right tackle last year.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know really, unless Colvin and Landon is not ready for the start of the regular season, why you would kind of make that move.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: But, again, I think that this coaching staff has
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: the chops to figure that out and play their cards.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Probably the best way they can.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
