- 0:02Speaker 1: Okay, mister Jimmy Gibson, tell me about you your journey
- 0:07Speaker 1: and how you got into marketing.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Uh, well, it's kind of an interesting twist attorney ride.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I guess. I was looking through some boxes a couple
- 0:22Speaker 2: of years ago and I found this little membership card
- 0:25Speaker 2: to Merlin's Mail Order Magic Club. And I was four
- 0:29Speaker 2: years old, and I was like, wow, that was really
- 0:32Speaker 2: young to get involved in that. And so yeah, through
- 0:35Speaker 2: middle school, I was doing birthday party shows for my
- 0:38Speaker 2: friends and getting paid twenty five bucks to entertain my
- 0:41Speaker 2: friends their parents would pay me. I thought I was
- 0:44Speaker 2: a business mogul at that point. And then in high
- 0:47Speaker 2: school I met a gentleman who was an account executive
- 0:50Speaker 2: for a fortune one hundred company at an advertising agency,
- 0:55Speaker 2: and he was looking for a promotional entertainer for this company.
- 1:00Speaker 2: So I landed the gig, and for the next sixteen
- 1:03Speaker 2: years I was a professional magician. I like thought, this
- 1:06Speaker 2: is the coolest thing ever. But I got to hang
- 1:08Speaker 2: around the advertising agency and I thought, you know what,
- 1:11Speaker 2: if there was any career that was most like magic,
- 1:14Speaker 2: it would be marketing. Because you have to capture people's attention,
- 1:17Speaker 2: you have to keep them interested, and then you know,
- 1:20Speaker 2: there's the finale of the trick, and you know, in
- 1:23Speaker 2: marketing there is a call to action. The business owner
- 1:26Speaker 2: wants to make some money, so you've got to drive
- 1:28Speaker 2: them to some sort of conclusion. And so I still
- 1:33Speaker 2: do magic, But my career started in advertising agencies and
- 1:38Speaker 2: now you know they're called digital marketing agencies. And I'm
- 1:43Speaker 2: just fascinated with human psychology why a business owner believes
- 1:49Speaker 2: their product or service is the best ever, and so
- 1:52Speaker 2: we have to talk them through that. And you know,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I would say I've seen a lot over my career.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I've been with Thrive Internet Marketing for the last five
- 2:00Speaker 2: and a half years. The company's been around for twenty
- 2:04Speaker 2: and I really have never seen a fork in the
- 2:07Speaker 2: road like we have now related to marketing and AI
- 2:11Speaker 2: and the importance of making sure you're doing the right
- 2:14Speaker 2: things at the right time. And yeah, it's just a
- 2:16Speaker 2: dynamic world. So that's probably not the backstory you were
- 2:20Speaker 2: looking for, but that's me, and yeah, I just kind
- 2:23Speaker 2: of want to help point people in the right direction
- 2:25Speaker 2: with all this confusion.
- 2:27Speaker 1: No, I think that's exactly what I was looking for,
- 2:29Speaker 1: because I think that when you said about you being
- 2:32Speaker 1: four years old, and then knowing right then and there
- 2:36Speaker 1: that's what you wanted to do, and you never steered
- 2:40Speaker 1: away from that. I think that's commenable because there are
- 2:43Speaker 1: a lot of people that are not doing what their love,
- 2:47Speaker 1: what they love, They're doing what's expected. You're making everybody
- 2:50Speaker 1: else money. And I remember my dad being in the military.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He was drafted, they went to Vietnam Award and he
- 2:58Speaker 1: was in solid waste managed meant.
- 3:01Speaker 3: And I remember the traveling.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I remember seeing the world, and I think the best
- 3:07Speaker 1: marketing is you and your experiences. So to travel and
- 3:13Speaker 1: see the world when I was a kid, going to
- 3:16Speaker 1: Germany twice, going to all these different places as far
- 3:20Speaker 1: as state wise, I think that gives you a more
- 3:25Speaker 1: better experience of marketing because you know there's a world
- 3:28Speaker 1: outside of just America, and a lot of people are
- 3:33Speaker 1: only selling in the United States. When I went on
- 3:38Speaker 1: a cruise on Margueritaville, I saw Popeye's, I saw KFC.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm just sitting like they have a Popeye's and KFC
- 3:46Speaker 1: in Jamaica, right, So I'm just saying, like, wait a minute,
- 3:50Speaker 1: am I missing something here? And then when I started
- 3:53Speaker 1: learning about coaching, and I was in this one webinar
- 3:59Speaker 1: where I saw people from Scotland, people from England, people.
- 4:03Speaker 3: From all around the world.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It was more people from around the world in that
- 4:09Speaker 1: seminar in that webinar than there were Americans for business coaching.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So it really blew my mind.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And I'm just sitting there like, so it's not just
- 4:20Speaker 1: about selling in the United States. It's not about just
- 4:23Speaker 1: having clients in the United States. And then when you
- 4:26Speaker 1: do content creating, I did a video and I said,
- 4:31Speaker 1: I can either do my podcast and just do it
- 4:35Speaker 1: and put it out there and then just expect people
- 4:38Speaker 1: to show up, or I have to promote it, which
- 4:41Speaker 1: I'm glad. I learned graphic design and I took marketing
- 4:44Speaker 1: and retailing.
- 4:44Speaker 3: In high school.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And people said, you took marketing and retailing in high school.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I said, I did. I said because I wanted to
- 4:52Speaker 1: learn how to build a business correctly. And I think
- 4:57Speaker 1: a lot of people, yeah, you have the talent, but
- 5:00Speaker 1: if you cannot market yourself, it doesn't matter what you sell.
- 5:05Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if you have like Nicki Minaj's one
- 5:07Speaker 1: hundred and twenty five million followers, but then when I
- 5:12Speaker 1: looked at her Avim sales, it was six hundred and fifty.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I said, that's not.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Really good, which made me question, how is it that
- 5:20Speaker 1: artists can have two million followers?
- 5:23Speaker 3: How can a content creator have.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Like three hundred thousand followers and you only have five
- 5:31Speaker 1: thousand people that watch your commentary when it first comes out.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So I'm just trying to get a little bit of
- 5:36Speaker 1: understanding how that works when it comes to having all
- 5:41Speaker 1: the followers versus views versus sales. Is there a difference
- 5:48Speaker 1: when it comes to that, I should.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Say yeah, absolutely, And I think that goes into what
- 5:54Speaker 2: is your end goal? And if your end goal is
- 5:57Speaker 2: to be an influencer to gain followers, then that is
- 6:03Speaker 2: how you go about creating what you create. If your
- 6:06Speaker 2: goal is to have a business where somebody takes out
- 6:08Speaker 2: their wallet and pays you some amount of money for
- 6:12Speaker 2: a product or service, then that's a different way. And
- 6:17Speaker 2: so I would say, in the world that we live in,
- 6:20Speaker 2: there's often the bright shiny object of impressions and followers
- 6:24Speaker 2: and shares and all of those things, But if they
- 6:28Speaker 2: don't result in somebody taking out some money and paying
- 6:32Speaker 2: you for it, then you have to think through what
- 6:37Speaker 2: am I doing wrong or what was my initial intent?
- 6:41Speaker 2: And you know, it's much more profitable to have a
- 6:45Speaker 2: thousand followers who are paying you over the course of
- 6:48Speaker 2: many years than one hundred thousand followers who really don't
- 6:53Speaker 2: see any value in what you're saying to be able
- 6:55Speaker 2: to pay you for that. And so I think it
- 6:58Speaker 2: starts with what are you trying to accomplish? And then
- 7:02Speaker 2: what is the real value that you can communicate through
- 7:07Speaker 2: whatever the content is that you put out, and then
- 7:09Speaker 2: how do you lead them? Just like we talked about
- 7:11Speaker 2: the magic trick, right, so I'm gathering your attention. There's curiosity,
- 7:17Speaker 2: and so we've moved into Okay, I've got a crowd,
- 7:21Speaker 2: I've got an audience sitting in the theater, you know, metaphorically,
- 7:26Speaker 2: how do I bring them to the point where they
- 7:28Speaker 2: stand up and give me a standing ovation or open
- 7:31Speaker 2: their pocketbook or their wallet and say here's my money.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I want more of that. That's a whole different mindset.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And yeah, we could probably talk for hours about that,
- 7:42Speaker 2: but I would say we get into these conversations a
- 7:46Speaker 2: lot when we speak with business owners and they want
- 7:49Speaker 2: to chase some of those fluffy metrics, and we go, well, sure,
- 7:55Speaker 2: if that's what you want in the end. But I
- 7:56Speaker 2: believe you're a business that wants to be profitable now
- 8:00Speaker 2: in the future, and here's the way that can happen.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So I agree because when I started doing coaching and
- 8:09Speaker 1: doing this podcast, I said I didn't want to make
- 8:13Speaker 1: it perfect because I wanted to learn about how to
- 8:16Speaker 1: do it in general. And as I've gotten better with it,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I didn't think that my podcast was going to take
- 8:24Speaker 1: off the way it did.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I was in shock and it was.
- 8:27Speaker 1: One of those things where I marketed it on my
- 8:31Speaker 1: Facebook page, Instagram, YouTube page, TikTok page. I am now
- 8:36Speaker 1: taking clips and now posting them. But I just feel
- 8:41Speaker 1: like that it's important that you, as a content creator,
- 8:46Speaker 1: understand what marketing is because I see a lot of
- 8:48Speaker 1: people on YouTube and you know, Instagram and TikTok and
- 8:54Speaker 1: they're doing these lives and they're doing these you know videos,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and I'm like, you're not promoting yourself. You're looking at
- 9:04Speaker 1: the how many people are viewing it, but they don't
- 9:07Speaker 1: go in like on YouTube, you can go into YouTube
- 9:10Speaker 1: studios and you'll see they only looked at it for
- 9:14Speaker 1: two seconds. Well guess what, YouTube is not gonna count
- 9:17Speaker 1: that because that could be a Bot, they're not gonna
- 9:20Speaker 1: count it. And I tell people that you get on
- 9:23Speaker 1: live and you're on here talking about reviews for soap
- 9:27Speaker 1: operas and shows, but the company itself.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Is not bringing you own and paying you to do it.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You're doing it, but you're still working your regular nine
- 9:38Speaker 1: to five job.
- 9:40Speaker 3: And so when I thought about it, I said, there's
- 9:44Speaker 3: got to be.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Some type of disconnect because people think that content creating
- 9:50Speaker 1: is just you get on and you do dances, you
- 9:54Speaker 1: do reviews, you do interviews, but you're not at the
- 9:59Speaker 1: level where you're seeing indicated. So I look at Seth Rogen,
- 10:02Speaker 1: I look at you know, Joe Budden's, I look at
- 10:06Speaker 1: Howard Stern, and I'm like, these people are getting paid
- 10:09Speaker 1: millions of dollars. The Breakfast Club is now on Netflix
- 10:13Speaker 1: because now Netflix has a podcast thing where they bring
- 10:17Speaker 1: people on now. And I just think people need to
- 10:21Speaker 1: understand the importance of the marketing side if you're going
- 10:24Speaker 1: to take it to the next level, because what's the
- 10:26Speaker 1: point of you being a content creator and you're not
- 10:29Speaker 1: marketing yourself. You're not getting people that want to like
- 10:33Speaker 1: McDonald's and all these different companies that are paying major
- 10:37Speaker 1: dollars for commercials to be able to promote their brands
- 10:40Speaker 1: and the people and the companies that you're talking about.
- 10:43Speaker 1: As far as reviews, you're not getting paid for, you're
- 10:47Speaker 1: just doing it. So I think this conversation is important
- 10:51Speaker 1: because I think people need to understand it. Before you
- 10:55Speaker 1: do something, you need to make sure, like any any route,
- 11:00Speaker 1: your foundation is this. So, for example, my coaching is
- 11:05Speaker 1: my primary foundation.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Then there's the jury, Then there's.
- 11:08Speaker 1: The body butters, the oils, the holistic products.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Then there's the podcast, the motivational speaking.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Then there's the one on one coaching, webinars and seminars,
- 11:21Speaker 1: and then travel agency.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Those are all branches.
- 11:24Speaker 1: But I tell people everything should be under one thing,
- 11:28Speaker 1: but you're marketing everything separately.
- 11:31Speaker 3: So I think marketing is very important.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Even as a content creator, you should be marketing your
- 11:38Speaker 1: brand and trademarking and having the copyrights for your brand
- 11:43Speaker 1: because people will take your stuff and then get paid
- 11:45Speaker 1: off you.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Right, And you brought up a couple of revenue streams
- 11:50Speaker 2: related to being a content creator, and again you've got
- 11:53Speaker 2: to figure out which direction you're going. So there are
- 11:56Speaker 2: sponsorships which you mentioned so that a company can pay
- 11:59Speaker 2: to have them mentioned or they could sponsor a post
- 12:04Speaker 2: or an episode, or whatever the case may be. Sometimes
- 12:07Speaker 2: you lose creative control because they want to make sure
- 12:10Speaker 2: the episode or the promotion goes the way that they
- 12:15Speaker 2: want it to go. The other could be affiliate links
- 12:19Speaker 2: to various products or services that you're representing somebody else,
- 12:23Speaker 2: and then you're getting a piece of that off of that.
- 12:26Speaker 2: But obviously what I hear you saying is building your
- 12:29Speaker 2: own kingdom of products and services so that you have
- 12:33Speaker 2: control over that. And you know, if you think about
- 12:39Speaker 2: all the channels that you mentioned, and you know, certainly
- 12:42Speaker 2: there's ad revenue, but nobody's going to retire off of
- 12:44Speaker 2: ad revenue revenue from YouTube. You really want to have
- 12:51Speaker 2: people understand what it is that is behind all of that.
- 12:56Speaker 2: And you're treating these channels like you know, a podcast
- 13:00Speaker 2: is similar to an old radio show, right, and so
- 13:03Speaker 2: YouTube is you basically have your own TV channel. And
- 13:07Speaker 2: so if you think about it in that way, then
- 13:09Speaker 2: you need a customer journey path to guide them down
- 13:12Speaker 2: the path that you want them to go. And when
- 13:15Speaker 2: you start looking at these as an advertising channel in
- 13:18Speaker 2: and of themselves, but then how do you syndicate or
- 13:21Speaker 2: distribute that out to all these other channels. So if
- 13:25Speaker 2: you have long form, do you cut that up into
- 13:27Speaker 2: small clips and put those on others so it drives
- 13:29Speaker 2: them back to the long form. You know, all of
- 13:31Speaker 2: these things. You need to be intentional about it, and
- 13:35Speaker 2: it sounds like you're going about that and the right way.
- 13:38Speaker 2: One thing that you did say was I didn't want
- 13:41Speaker 2: it to be perfect. I wanted to learn as I go.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That's very attractive to people because you're going to attract
- 13:48Speaker 2: an audience who may be just starting out and they
- 13:51Speaker 2: want to go on this journey with you, and so
- 13:53Speaker 2: you're a couple of head steps ahead of them and
- 13:55Speaker 2: you're giving them advice so that they can avoid wrong
- 14:00Speaker 2: terms and slips off the cliff and you know things
- 14:03Speaker 2: like that.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So good for you, Thank you, Because what I'm noticing
- 14:09Speaker 1: even in like coaching, because now you're seeing a lot
- 14:11Speaker 1: of doctors, You're seeing a lot of people that are
- 14:14Speaker 1: travel agents that are on social media now and you're
- 14:18Speaker 1: seeing their journeys. Even people that are homeless that are
- 14:22Speaker 1: living in their cars, they're living in rbs, are now
- 14:26Speaker 1: getting paid and they're even getting brand deals. You got
- 14:30Speaker 1: people that are going overseas and being with other people
- 14:35Speaker 1: and seeing their journeys. I think now people want to
- 14:38Speaker 1: see journeys. People want to see growth. I think people
- 14:42Speaker 1: want to see okay. And I say this because I
- 14:47Speaker 1: tell people this all the time. People want to do
- 14:50Speaker 1: the thirty day challenges. I said, but then what happens next?
- 14:54Speaker 3: Right?
- 14:55Speaker 1: What happens after your thirty sixty days of going to
- 14:58Speaker 1: the gym working out? What happens nowt next? Do you
- 15:01Speaker 1: have a next step for these people? And then they're
- 15:03Speaker 1: coming back and saying, I didn't lose weight. Six months later,
- 15:07Speaker 1: there's still the same weight. And I said, I'm not
- 15:11Speaker 1: going to do that. I'm not going to market myself
- 15:13Speaker 1: that way. If I'm going to coach somebody, that means
- 15:18Speaker 1: it's until not only they achieved their goals, but also
- 15:24Speaker 1: them maintaining it and then coming back and saying, well
- 15:27Speaker 1: I'm stuck here. Okay, Well then we're going to work
- 15:30Speaker 1: through this. It's a journey. And even when I look
- 15:34Speaker 1: at Super Bowl commercials, they wonder why people may pay
- 15:39Speaker 1: three million, four million for that commercial, And I said.
- 15:43Speaker 3: It's the super Bowl. It's the super Bowl, one.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Of the biggest, you know, views of all time. But
- 15:53Speaker 1: any sports of it, it's going to be huge.
- 15:56Speaker 3: So yeah, you have to spend money in marketing.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And then I I watched these skits and there's one
- 16:03Speaker 1: lady in a skit. Her business was not doing well,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and the guy came in and said, I charged ten
- 16:09Speaker 1: thousand dollars a month.
- 16:11Speaker 3: She said ten thousand, she said.
- 16:13Speaker 1: He said, well, if you want the best of the best,
- 16:16Speaker 1: you're going to have to pay for it. And I
- 16:18Speaker 1: think for small businesses, a lot of them do not
- 16:22Speaker 1: want to pay the money for the marketing to bring
- 16:26Speaker 1: people into their businesses because there's a lot of people
- 16:29Speaker 1: losing money left them right A lot of businesses are
- 16:33Speaker 1: going out of business that I've seen, especially with the economy,
- 16:36Speaker 1: especially with tarots, they're losing money.
- 16:40Speaker 3: So now it's okay, what do I do. Now?
- 16:43Speaker 1: Do I continue this market where I am or do
- 16:49Speaker 1: I start trying to get people on cruises like for example, Miami, Texas,
- 16:56Speaker 1: New York have cruising ports. And now it's like, okay,
- 17:01Speaker 1: do I just give up my business or do I
- 17:02Speaker 1: start figuring out a different way to market to a
- 17:06Speaker 1: different side of people.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And you have to.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And the one thing I learned in the medical field
- 17:10Speaker 1: is adapting. They ask you, as a medical biller, can
- 17:14Speaker 1: you adapt to change?
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yes. I think business is the same thing. You have
- 17:18Speaker 3: to adapt.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You will go through a slow period, you have to
- 17:22Speaker 1: put money back into your business. And I say, you
- 17:25Speaker 1: don't start spending money. You don't give up your job
- 17:29Speaker 1: until okay, I said, for example, twenty thousand a month.
- 17:32Speaker 3: If I'm making twenty thousand dollars.
- 17:34Speaker 1: A month and I'm still making more than that, but
- 17:39Speaker 1: if i have twenty thousand that I can set aside,
- 17:43Speaker 1: then I can say, okay, I can quit my job
- 17:47Speaker 1: because for three years I put all my money back
- 17:52Speaker 1: into that business and still work a record ninety five job.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And I think people are not being realistic when it
- 17:59Speaker 1: comes to starting a business because so many people they'll
- 18:03Speaker 1: get successful, they sell their companies and then they think, Okay,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I have this large sum of money, I can just
- 18:10Speaker 1: start another company.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Instead of just saying I'm going to keep my company.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I'm going to do something else and just branch off
- 18:18Speaker 1: of that. Like I said, That's why I said, for me,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I don't want to sell my company. I want to
- 18:22Speaker 1: branch it off. I'd rather have multiple streams of income
- 18:27Speaker 1: and still keep my foundation, then sell my company and
- 18:31Speaker 1: then try to, you know, build something else, because now
- 18:35Speaker 1: you're starting all the way over and I just never
- 18:37Speaker 1: understood that point.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's probably one hundred different stories of
- 18:44Speaker 2: entrepreneurs if you interviewed one hundred people, and there's many
- 18:47Speaker 2: paths to that, you know. I think it goes back
- 18:50Speaker 2: to what are you passionate about? What is the market
- 18:53Speaker 2: willing to pay you for? Where's the overlap in those
- 18:56Speaker 2: two and do you are you in for the long haul?
- 19:01Speaker 2: Because it always takes more energy and more money and
- 19:06Speaker 2: more time than you think from the beginning. So what
- 19:10Speaker 2: are you willing to invest time and energy and money into.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And it's a little bit of soul searching, it's a
- 19:17Speaker 2: little bit of you know, understanding what the market wants.
- 19:20Speaker 2: And then it's a little bit of get your calculator
- 19:23Speaker 2: out and put a spreadsheet together and figure out how
- 19:26Speaker 2: are you going to pay the bills? And what does
- 19:28Speaker 2: this look like from a profitability standpoint? And you know,
- 19:32Speaker 2: all of those things that are you know, just the
- 19:34Speaker 2: basics of business.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So I think that's important too, because I said to myself,
- 19:41Speaker 1: my dad was always good with bills, and when he died,
- 19:44Speaker 1: he was like a month behind. And the one thing
- 19:48Speaker 1: I said I wanted to do was build something that
- 19:51Speaker 1: can live past me, because my son has autism, and
- 19:55Speaker 1: I learned that your family may not live past you,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and I think it's important that you have something that
- 20:04Speaker 1: will continue to not only make money, but educate people,
- 20:10Speaker 1: that can help people even past you. So those books
- 20:14Speaker 1: will continue to sell even past you. You're coaching, your teachings,
- 20:20Speaker 1: your social media will live past you even though you're
- 20:24Speaker 1: not here.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And I'm glad I took those business courses.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm glad I took marketing retailing in high school because
- 20:33Speaker 1: I don't think if I didn't, I would have just
- 20:36Speaker 1: jumped into this and said, it's about the money.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I get money. I'm gonna buy a new car. I'm
- 20:43Speaker 3: gonna get money.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna buy a million dollar house for what I'm
- 20:47Speaker 1: gonna buy the land that it sits on, because my
- 20:49Speaker 1: grandmother bought land and the house that she said it
- 20:53Speaker 1: sits on, So we have land, and then we have
- 20:56Speaker 1: the house I'm currently in. And so it's me that
- 21:00Speaker 1: it's not about buying the house, It's about buying the
- 21:03Speaker 1: land that it sits on the foundation of it, and
- 21:06Speaker 1: then I can build whenever I want to. I can
- 21:08Speaker 1: expand have a way I want to. So instead of
- 21:11Speaker 1: me going and buying a three million dollar house, I
- 21:15Speaker 1: can buy land and say and build that same three
- 21:18Speaker 1: million dollar house cheaper. Because I'm building it the way
- 21:23Speaker 1: I want to. I can always add, always can construct
- 21:26Speaker 1: from it whenever I feel like it. But I'm glad
- 21:29Speaker 1: my father instilled that in me because I think back
- 21:36Speaker 1: in the nineteen twenties, your retirement was forty when the
- 21:42Speaker 1: world first became what it was.
- 21:44Speaker 3: It wasn't about you going to college.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It was what was your natural talent, and you would
- 21:50Speaker 1: go to the market and you would exchange your goods
- 21:54Speaker 1: and services and that's what you did. So it wasn't
- 21:58Speaker 1: about the act of you doing something because you went
- 22:02Speaker 1: to school for it. It wasn't about Okay, you work
- 22:06Speaker 1: this and you get paid this. It was you had
- 22:10Speaker 1: to have the talent to do it in order to
- 22:12Speaker 1: make money. And I think we're missing that because a
- 22:16Speaker 1: lot of people are saying, like, for example, cruise lines,
- 22:19Speaker 1: for example, there are a lot of people that are
- 22:21Speaker 1: doing traveling.
- 22:22Speaker 3: They're getting up and they're traveling the world.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Now, they're living on ships now and they're now doing
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know, group tours and making money that way. I
- 22:34Speaker 1: think what people are missing as social media is that
- 22:38Speaker 1: meet and greets are important. Those those things are very
- 22:41Speaker 1: important because people will pay to see you.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Book tours, those things are important.
- 22:48Speaker 1: You know, promoting what you have because again you are
- 22:53Speaker 1: a brand. Everything centers around you, and so you are
- 22:58Speaker 1: the brand and tea shirts, cubs, websites, all of these things.
- 23:03Speaker 1: And a a friend of mine, he does documentaries and
- 23:06Speaker 1: he gets sponsors for his documentaries.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I said, but here's the problem. If you don't put.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Those products and services and they're not shown to be used,
- 23:18Speaker 1: you're not going to be able to.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Repeat those same sponsors.
- 23:22Speaker 1: You can't go back to them because they're gonna feel
- 23:24Speaker 1: like they're being used. So I think it's important that
- 23:27Speaker 1: you want to keep those same relationships with those same
- 23:30Speaker 1: sponsors because you never.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Know when you might need them again.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And what I don't understand is why people don't understand
- 23:38Speaker 1: the importance of maintaining the connections that you have, so
- 23:42Speaker 1: you don't have to keep going back to new sponsors,
- 23:45Speaker 1: and you don't have like you said, you don't have
- 23:47Speaker 1: to keep trying to have all of these followers and
- 23:51Speaker 1: not enough, fusing people not buying your products, Am I wrong? No?
- 23:58Speaker 2: And you've got a lot of awesome metaphors going there.
- 24:03Speaker 2: My granddad always used to tell me by Land, they're
- 24:06Speaker 2: not making any more of it, and I thought that
- 24:09Speaker 2: was funny, but it's true. And so when you think
- 24:11Speaker 2: about a business, what is your footprint or your real
- 24:16Speaker 2: estate or what is the foundation of that business? And
- 24:20Speaker 2: then you know, you bring in personal brand and you
- 24:23Speaker 2: bring in you know, even in our disconnected digital world,
- 24:26Speaker 2: people still want to be in the presence of somebody
- 24:29Speaker 2: that they admire and somebody that they're learning from. And
- 24:32Speaker 2: so making sure that your audience has access to you
- 24:37Speaker 2: in the ways that they want to have access to
- 24:39Speaker 2: you and to be in it for the long haul.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You talked about legacy and making sure you provided for
- 24:46Speaker 2: your family after you were gone, and that's a different
- 24:49Speaker 2: way of thinking other than a quick sale or get
- 24:52Speaker 2: rich quick or so all of those things take a
- 24:58Speaker 2: different mindset them the flash and the pan types of
- 25:02Speaker 2: things that we see a lot on social media, and
- 25:06Speaker 2: so good for you for leaning into those.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Thank you, And that's where I wanted to have this
- 25:10Speaker 4: quick conversation with you, because, like I said, I'm trying
- 25:14Speaker 4: to build something, and you know, I have all of
- 25:18Speaker 4: these ideas, but it's like when you don't have someone
- 25:22Speaker 4: to really give you this guy. That's why I said
- 25:25Speaker 4: business healing your recovery is important because so many people
- 25:30Speaker 4: don't talk about business healing business recovery.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I had somebody on my podcast recently, mister Moe.
- 25:37Speaker 1: He said he three times lost the business three and
- 25:44Speaker 1: had to come back from that. And there are people
- 25:47Speaker 1: that are losing their jobs every day and they're still
- 25:51Speaker 1: not getting a job, They're still not being hired.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And now it's what do I do now?
- 25:57Speaker 1: But when you have the job, instead of you taking
- 26:00Speaker 1: that little bit of money, when you get your taxes back,
- 26:03Speaker 1: instead of you not spending money on all of these
- 26:06Speaker 1: unnecessary things, created something that you love.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I'm all for going to college.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I'm all for learning about you know me and I
- 26:14Speaker 1: went to school for early childhood education. I went to
- 26:17Speaker 1: school for healthcare management and medical billing and coding. I've
- 26:22Speaker 1: done medical billing and coding. Somebody asked me, what part
- 26:27Speaker 1: of it do you enjoy? Us at all of it?
- 26:29Speaker 1: And they said why because it all goes together. Every
- 26:32Speaker 1: piece goes together. Everything is a jigsaw puzzle. Your life
- 26:36Speaker 1: is a jigsaw puzzle. Everything, every piece goes together. Your talents, all.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Of that is you. All of that is a part
- 26:44Speaker 3: of you.
- 26:46Speaker 1: But if you're not doing eventually what you love, if
- 26:50Speaker 1: you're not advancing where you can have your own physical
- 26:54Speaker 1: therapist company, you don't have your own medical building company.
- 27:00Speaker 1: You know you're you're not a CEO of a hospital,
- 27:03Speaker 1: even though you don't own it, but you're not a CEO.
- 27:07Speaker 3: That is what the problem is.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you could stay stagnant and be a manager and
- 27:11Speaker 1: work to sixty five, but in the end, you can't
- 27:16Speaker 1: travel like you would like to.
- 27:18Speaker 3: You can't have your work life balance. Your health is
- 27:21Speaker 3: not going to be because you don't.
- 27:23Speaker 1: You can't afford your health care, so you really have
- 27:27Speaker 1: to I tell people that healing.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Your recovery is about your health and woness.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And yes, you do have to make money because of
- 27:33Speaker 1: a society that we're in. But I also say, if
- 27:37Speaker 1: you want the best of the best, you're gonna have
- 27:41Speaker 1: to elevate, evolve, grow and mature into that person that
- 27:46Speaker 1: you want to be. And if something is making you stagnant,
- 27:50Speaker 1: you're not meant to be there.
- 27:51Speaker 3: If you have to chase behind it.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Then it ain't meant for you to be there, because
- 27:56Speaker 1: no matter what, there are people that can have two
- 28:02Speaker 1: five hundred people in there, like you said, in their
- 28:06Speaker 1: webinars and seminars and bring home ninety seven thousand dollars.
- 28:10Speaker 3: That one day. Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Yeah, And so you've got a strong point of view
- 28:16Speaker 2: on where your life is leading and what you believe in,
- 28:20Speaker 2: and so yeah, I think the listeners would appreciate that,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and you're going to draw an audience to you who
- 28:27Speaker 2: also believes that. And the more you say what you're about,
- 28:33Speaker 2: then it also repels people who you know, and there's
- 28:37Speaker 2: no right or wrong. Folks who want to be in
- 28:40Speaker 2: that middle management position and have the security of knowing
- 28:43Speaker 2: that they have a paycheck coming in and that's right
- 28:46Speaker 2: for them, and they're not going to be the audience
- 28:50Speaker 2: that gets behind you. And so yeah, I would say
- 28:53Speaker 2: all of those are about attracting the right crowd and
- 28:56Speaker 2: having them be connected to what you believe in and
- 29:00Speaker 2: how you move forward. So yeah, that's a great marketing
- 29:03Speaker 2: lesson right there.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's why I wanted to do this pre
- 29:07Speaker 1: conversation with you, because you know, I think that people
- 29:11Speaker 1: need to really understand the importance of marketing and before
- 29:16Speaker 1: they step into being these content creators, because when I
- 29:19Speaker 1: stepped into it, there's also the posting of your address.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Once you put your stuff on TikTok and Instagram.
- 29:29Speaker 3: People have the right to take it.
- 29:31Speaker 1: They can dismantle it, they can take your whole entire reputation.
- 29:35Speaker 3: And you see it with celebrities.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Celebrities go through it every day where there's rumors about
- 29:40Speaker 1: them every day. You know, people are getting fired on
- 29:43Speaker 1: social media because of the Internet trolls and all of that.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So I think people you know, listening to this conversation
- 29:53Speaker 1: will understand before you become a content creator, before you
- 29:57Speaker 1: start a business, before you start a brand, and you
- 30:00Speaker 1: really need to just step into it and say, let
- 30:06Speaker 1: me test the waters first, let me learn everything about
- 30:11Speaker 1: it first, and then make mistakes before you put all
- 30:15Speaker 1: of your money and all your eggs into that basket.
- 30:19Speaker 1: You're already prepared for all of the negativity, the family members,
- 30:24Speaker 1: the money, all of those things. Because even when you
- 30:27Speaker 1: write a book, it's the same thing. You're writing a book,
- 30:30Speaker 1: you're putting it out there. You got to promote it.
- 30:32Speaker 1: You have to have a website, that's going to bring
- 30:37Speaker 1: people in because a lot of people are visual. You
- 30:40Speaker 1: may have to bring in models, You may have to
- 30:42Speaker 1: bring in because you don't have the look.
- 30:45Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, these are things.
- 30:48Speaker 1: That before you get into it, take baby steps and
- 30:52Speaker 1: take those courses, the marketing courses. Make sure you have
- 30:56Speaker 1: the money to hire a someone like yourself that does
- 30:59Speaker 1: marketing that's going to really bring your business. But a
- 31:03Speaker 1: marketing person is not going to come into it and
- 31:07Speaker 1: they look around and they say, well, this needs a
- 31:09Speaker 1: change before they.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Even touch it.
- 31:12Speaker 1: They'll they'll they'll give you all the recommendations of what
- 31:16Speaker 1: you need to change, and then when they see that
- 31:19Speaker 1: you are serious, then they're like, okay, because I'm not
- 31:21Speaker 1: going to waste my time bringing in my people to
- 31:25Speaker 1: market you and you're not going to do the recommendations
- 31:30Speaker 1: that I told you.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, the old wisdom is good marketing
- 31:37Speaker 2: can't solve a ad product or service, so you need
- 31:40Speaker 2: to test the market and make sure people are willing
- 31:42Speaker 2: to pay and you can get results for them. I've
- 31:45Speaker 2: enjoyed our conversation. I got to jump to another meeting,
- 31:49Speaker 2: but yeah, I hope we got to know each other
- 31:54Speaker 2: a little bit better through this.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Thank you, we did, and I will send you to emails.
- 31:58Speaker 1: So whatever time a date works for you, I'm looking
- 32:00Speaker 1: forward to it.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Sure we have a good weekend you too, all right Bye,
