- Good morning, I'm Kai Rivers and this is Studio Signal — your daily M&E intelligence briefing, brought to you by Harkins Capital. Let's get into it. Alright studio fam, it is Wednesday, April twenty-second, and we are at the midpoint of the N. A. B. Show in Vegas. The big hardware and software announcements we talked about Monday and Tuesday have landed, and now the entire conversation on the show floor has shifted to one word: ecosystem. It's no longer about a single camera or a new plugin. It's about how every piece of the puzzle — from cloud-native platforms like Grass Valley's AMPP to AI-driven media intelligence from companies like Avid and Editshare — connects into one seamless, intelligent workflow. The buzz is that we've moved past "what can AI do?" and into "how is AI making us money?" It’s about building these unified stacks where a creative team can operate across multiple locations, like we're seeing with Blackmagic Cloud, and use AI to speed up everything from metadata creation to final delivery. This isn't some far-off future… it’s what companies are selling, right now, in the Central Hall. The game has officially changed from selling products to selling end-to-end solutions. And while the industry is looking at its own future in Vegas, some massive deals shaping the present are closing. Nexstar has finally closed its six-point-two billion dollar acquisition of Tegna after getting the green light from the F-C-C and the Department of Justice. This is a huge consolidation play in the local broadcast space, creating an absolute behemoth in US local TV. But... it's not without drama. A federal judge just issued a preliminary injunction to temporarily halt the full integration of the companies after DirecTV and a group of states sued on antitrust grounds. So while the deal is technically closed, they have to operate as separate companies for now. It’s a fascinating wrinkle in a deal that will reshape the local news landscape. Speaking of reshaping landscapes, the IP gold rush continues. According to Cartoon Brew, the Mario film franchise has officially blasted past two billion dollars worldwide. The new film, 'Galaxy,' is holding strong and the combined success makes Mario one of the top ten biggest animated franchises ever... with only two movies. That is an insane return for Universal and Illumination and a massive signal that beloved gaming IP is an absolute cash machine. And studios are clearly listening. Variety is reporting that the Michael Jackson biopic, 'Michael,' is on track for a record-breaking debut, aiming for a stunning seventy-million-dollar-plus opening weekend in North America alone. That would make it the biggest start for a music biopic ever, blowing past films like 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' It's another huge bet on a global icon, proving that in a crowded market, nothing cuts through the noise like a story everyone already knows. Oh, and if you want to keep cutting through the noise and get this level of M&E intel every single morning, we are running a special for N. A. B. week. Your first month of Studio Signal Pro is free with the code N. A. B. twenty twenty-six at checkout. The deal expires on Friday after the show wraps, so don't miss out. Alright, let's take a quick look at the markets before we go. It's a pretty green day for the M&E sector, with about twenty-six companies up and only four in the red. The average move is about plus one percent. Leading the pack is CoreWeave, up more than four percent. That's a clear halo effect from all the AI talk at N.A.B. — the more AI gets integrated into workflows, the more demand there is for the infrastructure they provide. Adobe is also having a great day, up almost three percent, again, riding that positive sentiment from all their new AI-powered tools on the show floor. AMC Entertainment is bouncing back from yesterday, up almost three percent. And rounding out the top movers are Roku, up over two percent, and Apple, gaining close to two percent today. A lot of positive momentum, especially in the tech and AI space, which makes perfect sense given the conversations dominating Vegas this week. That's your signal for today. I'm Kai Rivers — thanks for tuning in, and I'll be back tomorrow.
