- 0:33Speaker 1: Hannibal Burists, Hannble Burrs, slash s u tune, and then
- 0:38Speaker 1: my jumping ahead in the interview, my bad man. I
- 0:43Speaker 1: just feel, you know, it's it's I have to do it.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Oh listen, dude. I'm I've been a big fan of
- 0:48Speaker 3: yours for a very long time. I'm like a comedy nerd,
- 0:50Speaker 3: So every piece of YouTube clip of your stand up
- 0:55Speaker 3: I've consumed, and I just think you're a fucking hilarious guy.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Thank you, man, app ship it's a lot of you
- 1:01Speaker 1: do many thanks man, good interviews, you do, good work.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I appreciate the homework. Yeah, I try, man, I try.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So let's let's so listen.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Man, you obviously have kind of always uh, I feel
- 1:13Speaker 3: like it's always been pretty evident that you're hip hop head.
- 1:18Speaker 3: And you sent me your song Veniers. Yeah, yeah, now Veniers.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I'm glad that someone touched on this subject, because not
- 1:27Speaker 3: only in hip hop, but really in hip hop, these veneers,
- 1:31Speaker 3: you're running a muck aar, these fucking chompers, these giant
- 1:36Speaker 3: pearly fucking I got. I got a friend named a
- 1:41Speaker 3: d and he's got the biggest teeth on a human
- 1:45Speaker 3: being I've ever seen. And they're not his teeth. There's
- 1:49Speaker 3: so many that babies got their chompers. Gucci's got the chompers.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Everybody's got the chompers. Why make a song about the veneers?
- 1:56Speaker 1: Uh? You know I got mine in twenty I think
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's twenty twelve, twenty thirteen when I got them? Were
- 2:04Speaker 1: you e veneers I got?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:06Speaker 1: I wasn't. It was the song is, uh, well, your
- 2:08Speaker 1: veneers don't look fake, which is good, I think because
- 2:10Speaker 1: I got them in a time where they weren't super
- 2:14Speaker 1: pushed and marketed, so motherfuckers weren't doing bad jobs or something,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know what I mean, or over.
- 2:20Speaker 3: The top veneers, because yours look natural. I would never Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 3: I think I got a good dentist.
- 2:25Speaker 1: The reason I did the song I had alluded to
- 2:28Speaker 1: it and stand up before About the Veneers, I called
- 2:30Speaker 1: them TVT and I was I saw a thumbnail on
- 2:36Speaker 1: YouTube about somebody saying they had hair plugs, and so
- 2:39Speaker 1: it made me think about things I'd gotten, and so
- 2:42Speaker 1: I thought about my Veneers, and I'm like, yeah, that
- 2:44Speaker 1: could be a that's an interesting song concept with Veneers
- 2:47Speaker 1: being a placeholder for anything people get to cover up something,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Veneers the tief thing is
- 2:52Speaker 1: one thing. But and so just did the song did
- 2:56Speaker 1: one version of it. The demo of it has I
- 3:00Speaker 1: do a drum solo and a terrible jum solo and
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'm screaming, I'm not going to splice. I'm not going
- 3:06Speaker 1: to splice, just going crazy on the drums. That's such
- 3:08Speaker 1: your like inside joke abouts producers. Yeah, that's why is
- 3:12Speaker 1: not in the song anymore.
- 3:14Speaker 3: It's such a niche like like point zero zero zero
- 3:18Speaker 3: five percent of the popular like he would get it.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So but it was a you know, I
- 3:25Speaker 1: I produced it a little bit on the on the
- 3:27Speaker 1: mold synthesizer app just to simple them down down, uh.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And it was just a fun, fun record that I
- 3:35Speaker 1: believed in and I performed it at Bruise of Thanksgiving
- 3:39Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, Danny Brown's event in Detroit, and it
- 3:45Speaker 1: just went crazy. It was just really live, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and this is a song that wasn't outright, I never
- 3:51Speaker 1: heard it, which is hard to it's soup. It was crazy.
- 3:54Speaker 1: People were rocking to it, I think because it's slower
- 3:56Speaker 1: and just easy to catch on and so that was
- 3:59Speaker 1: really exciting. And then wanted, you know, just Danny liked
- 4:03Speaker 1: the song, asked him to be on the remix. You
- 4:05Speaker 1: have Veneers one of my one of the few guys
- 4:08Speaker 1: who needed him truly, I won't say anybody needs Veniers. Well,
- 4:12Speaker 1: he was missing he had missing space. Yeah, but that
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know, is it? Yeah? It was kind of his trademark. Look, yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 1: it was kind of kind of took away from like,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, his.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Trademark a little bit.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah, just still eat. You know, it's not you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: it's not.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Like having you know, it's other things that could be worse.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That's the thing too with the song now, because I'm like,
- 4:31Speaker 1: oh man, I didn't really mean it to be telling
- 4:34Speaker 1: other motherfuckers that you need Veneers. It was more of
- 4:36Speaker 1: about it was like a self roasting celebration a little
- 4:39Speaker 1: bit at the same time, more so than like, hey,
- 4:41Speaker 1: motherfucker out there, random person with bad teeth.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I don't care about your teeth that much.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I was making fun of myself, but I understand it's
- 4:47Speaker 1: in a song now, so people could take it a
- 4:49Speaker 1: certain way. It is what it is.
- 4:50Speaker 3: So let me ask you this the dark side of
- 4:52Speaker 3: the Veneers. Yeah, underneath your vene their little little like
- 4:57Speaker 3: little things, little dumbs fangs.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, underneath his fangs beak and they shaved them
- 5:03Speaker 1: down them yet for the amazing Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:06Speaker 3: I saw there's a rapper named beat King from Houston
- 5:09Speaker 3: and he got Veneers and uh he posted the picture
- 5:12Speaker 3: in the dentist chair with just a.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Fucking his underneath joints and it looks grazy. It's super crazy.
- 5:21Speaker 3: So have you had like to go back and get
- 5:22Speaker 3: anything because I'd be so self conscious to eat certain stuff.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Do you like not fuck with an apple unless it's
- 5:29Speaker 3: with a fork?
- 5:30Speaker 1: No, man, I might really, you know, yeah, I just
- 5:33Speaker 1: eat whatever, man. I know that. You know, judgment day
- 5:37Speaker 1: will come and this song's gonna be what do you
- 5:39Speaker 1: just get them fixed up? It ain't that bad?
- 5:41Speaker 3: What for you like First of all, how long have
- 5:44Speaker 3: you been like working on music behind the scenes, because
- 5:48Speaker 3: we know you as an actor, as a comedian, as
- 5:50Speaker 3: you know, an entertainer. So yeah, obviously like you had
- 5:53Speaker 3: a music it's to scratch, So like, yeah, is.
- 5:55Speaker 1: This something you've always done? We just didn't know about it.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I recorded music before I ever did stand up, probably
- 6:02Speaker 1: my last year of high school. My homie Dave had
- 6:04Speaker 1: this I forget the name of this beat machine with
- 6:06Speaker 1: it was blue. He made some beats on now He's
- 6:08Speaker 1: made some really some really bad fun songs back then
- 6:12Speaker 1: right now, before I ever did stand up, and then
- 6:16Speaker 1: just earlier on in my stand up was always adjacent
- 6:19Speaker 1: to it from the very beginning, from hosting you know,
- 6:22Speaker 1: open mics to I battle wrapped in college just because
- 6:26Speaker 1: it wasn't that much stage time to do comedy, so
- 6:28Speaker 1: it was just you know, battle rappings about getting that reaction.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So I said, you know, this is an opportunity for
- 6:34Speaker 1: me to perform. So yeah, from doing skits on people's albums, sure,
- 6:39Speaker 1: talking and hosting shows, opening on Folks shows, to you know,
- 6:45Speaker 1: having music on my show, it's always been, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: been directly adjacent.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, You've always kind of you've, like I said, you've
- 6:53Speaker 3: been in You've been involved in like hip hop culture
- 6:55Speaker 3: from the jump. I feel like, so it's like for you,
- 6:57Speaker 3: it's like you have to have a certain level of
- 7:00Speaker 3: confidence to be like I'm gonna because it's a vulnerable
- 7:03Speaker 3: thing to put music out into the world as as
- 7:05Speaker 3: somebody who's known for this other stuff. Yeah, you're kind
- 7:08Speaker 3: of putting yourself out there for criticism, and it's your
- 7:11Speaker 3: art at the end of the day, Right, So, like,
- 7:13Speaker 3: was there a certain was it that moment where you
- 7:15Speaker 3: performed the song like or was this just always the plan?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Like it was a plan, but it was definitely that
- 7:21Speaker 1: part of it was talking about driving the project since
- 7:24Speaker 1: twenty thirteen, fourteen, but that was an ongoing process of
- 7:29Speaker 1: just you know, I'm doing this shit and I know
- 7:32Speaker 1: I could do it and just being in it. And
- 7:34Speaker 1: so I think doing more shows helped, you know, shit
- 7:39Speaker 1: that because that's what I come from doing stand up.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You just do stand up repeatedly. So I was just
- 7:44Speaker 1: doing hell of shows and that would just help build it.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And then it helped me form my new songs my
- 7:52Speaker 1: first project.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Those songs, I liked them, and there's some some fun.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Stuff on there, but they were kind of made during
- 7:59Speaker 1: you know, twenty twenty one, not really informed by performing.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So now the songs is, you know, I've performed them
- 8:10Speaker 1: before I put them out, so I'm tweaking them too
- 8:12Speaker 1: sometimes or rewriting and seeing what connects with an audience
- 8:17Speaker 1: or recording after doing the show, after having that type
- 8:21Speaker 1: of energy. So yeah, it took a while to build
- 8:24Speaker 1: it up, just because especially when finance is involved, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: of course it costs money. It costs money, and it
- 8:31Speaker 1: just that's where the money's coming from. Like that's not
- 8:33Speaker 1: where the offers are coming from. You know. Initially people aren't, hey,
- 8:37Speaker 1: come rap is that's all me? Are certain that side,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and people say, come do a movie, Come do stand up,
- 8:43Speaker 1: come do this, come do all these other things except
- 8:44Speaker 1: for what I'm actually spending my days doing. So navigating
- 8:49Speaker 1: that part because that's not what the external communication was.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It was something, But now it's just I'm in a
- 8:55Speaker 1: good place. I've done a bunch of shows, had a
- 8:58Speaker 1: fun opportunities year that you know, I know, I'm in
- 9:02Speaker 1: a situation that the average up and coming rapper is
- 9:07Speaker 1: not in just because of my previous career. So I
- 9:09Speaker 1: get a couple of looks that fucking might ne.
- 9:12Speaker 3: People are, I mean, and you have, you know, wrapped
- 9:14Speaker 3: up a lot of friends along the way, you know.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah, man, it So it's been. People have been really
- 9:20Speaker 1: supportive beyond you know whatever. And that's what I try
- 9:23Speaker 1: to focus on now, is it's always gonna be. Even
- 9:27Speaker 1: when I started doing comedy, some folks no, don't do comedy,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, right, So that that's with anything. But it's
- 9:33Speaker 1: been so many people that's super supportive and helped out
- 9:37Speaker 1: from you know, the roots. I went out there wrapped
- 9:42Speaker 1: that pitchfork with them, you know what I mean, And
- 9:45Speaker 1: and uh, John Mulaney was playing United Center. He's like,
- 9:49Speaker 1: you want to open. I'm like, I want to wrap.
- 9:51Speaker 1: He's like, all right, So I got to wrap in
- 9:54Speaker 1: United in front of a comedy already with twelve thousand people.
- 9:56Speaker 1: But it's up and then you know, yeah, you're like,
- 9:59Speaker 1: oh shit, that's Annibal as Animal.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Oh he's rapping all right? Yes, but I don't know,
- 10:04Speaker 3: you know, it's so it's uh, it's been.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's been really exciting because it puts me in that
- 10:11Speaker 1: that mode of of that I was in when I
- 10:15Speaker 1: first started doing stand up. Well, I don't have that
- 10:18Speaker 1: with stand up. Now. I'll do some stand up, but
- 10:21Speaker 1: it's for the dough. Like I'm not showing up to
- 10:24Speaker 1: pop up, but I'll show up to it. I'll show
- 10:26Speaker 1: up at a hip hop over Mike, and I'll wrap
- 10:28Speaker 1: for eleven people. You know what I'm saying.
- 10:30Speaker 3: It's almost like you're like, like, because I feel like
- 10:32Speaker 3: that is a part of like when you always hear
- 10:34Speaker 3: comedians talking about like the come up, going to the
- 10:36Speaker 3: comedy store, doing all these open mics, trying to do
- 10:38Speaker 3: five shows in one night to work on your material. Yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 3: it feels like like one of those times in your
- 10:45Speaker 3: life where you probably reflect on and be like, man,
- 10:47Speaker 3: that energy I had when I was just trying to
- 10:49Speaker 3: make Yeah, it's similar.
- 10:51Speaker 1: It's similar now. It's that feeling now because every because
- 10:54Speaker 1: it's a lot of different possibilities and and you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: it's a different conversation with the audience through the music.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It's similar. It's communication, but it's a different you know, conversations,
- 11:06Speaker 1: different structure to it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: The beats can guide you a little bit.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And it's been it's been cool man, and and and
- 11:14Speaker 1: the records is getting better and the show is getting better.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And and and we're learning and releasing music is doing
- 11:22Speaker 1: music is a skill you grow at that. Releasing music
- 11:24Speaker 1: is a skill too in itself, and so I'm learning
- 11:28Speaker 1: that part of it, how to drop music and how
- 11:30Speaker 1: to So it's just all of the growth and excitement.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I'm hyped every day. Man. Yeah, you said previous careers.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So you're done with like stand up and acting.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Uh not done, But I ain't.
- 11:44Speaker 1: You're focused on I'll do I'll do comedy to cover
- 11:47Speaker 1: the cost.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Right now, That's what it purely is.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Your comedy career is now funding your music, and it's
- 11:54Speaker 3: just and just allowing me to fast.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I did a University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. They booked it
- 12:01Speaker 1: was their comedy you know night for the semester, and
- 12:04Speaker 1: so I do my ship. I had a band there,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and so I usually my recent comedy Giggs. I'll just
- 12:11Speaker 1: do songs at the end after doing an hour whatever.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Now I try this for mat I'm doing. I'm starting
- 12:16Speaker 1: off two songs, then I do twenty minutes to stand up,
- 12:19Speaker 1: doing another song in the middle and coming there and
- 12:21Speaker 1: do like thirty minutes to stand up and then close
- 12:23Speaker 1: out two songs. You know, that's kind of dope. It's
- 12:25Speaker 1: a fun show man, that'd be a great show to see.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's a fun show, and it keeps it lively for me,
- 12:30Speaker 1: and it makes And that's so I enjoyed doing stand
- 12:32Speaker 1: up in that scenario with the with the band playing
- 12:35Speaker 1: under and it's just creating a whole vibe. Last year,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I was very I was in my I'm doing music
- 12:43Speaker 1: mode and I was turning down a lot of shit
- 12:45Speaker 1: with stand up with no I'm trying to rap it
- 12:48Speaker 1: like we don't know about all right past and so
- 12:52Speaker 1: now I figure out how to get both how to
- 12:55Speaker 1: finagle it like or I just you know, once I'm
- 12:57Speaker 1: in adult you ain't gonna pull me out the stage
- 12:59Speaker 1: anyway for rappings, Like I'm on stage already, so it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: not to tell me.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's there.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Now I'm in that zone of you know, figuring out
- 13:08Speaker 1: how to make it work and and not so locked
- 13:13Speaker 1: in on just the identity I'm doing music right now
- 13:16Speaker 1: and leaving the food don't to me about That's where
- 13:18Speaker 1: I was. I was in a real that's because it
- 13:20Speaker 1: was still fresh, you know, in your your mind stay
- 13:23Speaker 1: changes and grows, so it's uh, it's hell of exciting, man,
- 13:26Speaker 1: it's it's a fun time and.
- 13:27Speaker 3: You get a healthy balance between the two.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's a dope show or another format I do.
- 13:32Speaker 1: If I'm playing you know, music venue, pop up, small
- 13:36Speaker 1: cap like three hundred five hundred, I have an opener,
- 13:39Speaker 1: then I do stand up. Then I have the band
- 13:42Speaker 1: jam or a music opener or two fifteen twenty minute
- 13:46Speaker 1: come back out and I come back out do the music.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And so then i've you know, I'm warmed up because
- 13:52Speaker 1: I already doesn't stand up, so I'm lose two, you
- 13:54Speaker 1: know what I mean. So and it's a separate set,
- 13:56Speaker 1: change fits or something throwing some shape, you know what
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean, like making the whole different thing. So it's
- 14:00Speaker 1: been cool to kind of figure out the live experience.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I really care about the live show and making the
- 14:06Speaker 1: shit dope and on point, and you know, motherfuckers come
- 14:09Speaker 1: out the house to see you. It's it's a very
- 14:11Speaker 1: important thing. So there's been times where I didn't, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: nail it, or I was, you know, foned it in
- 14:18Speaker 1: on shit, and so now I really cherished the live
- 14:20Speaker 1: experience and how to make it really dope.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I always say that like the hardest, like probably bravest
- 14:25Speaker 3: thing anybody can do is just fucking go on stage
- 14:27Speaker 3: and try to do stand up because your job is
- 14:30Speaker 3: literally like you're like, the feedback is instant. You know
- 14:35Speaker 3: whether or not you're good because people aren't there to
- 14:38Speaker 3: fake laugh and they're out there to they want to laugh.
- 14:40Speaker 3: People are there to laugh, So if you bomb, it's
- 14:42Speaker 3: like it's got to be just I don't know, man,
- 14:46Speaker 3: I mean, how do you compare that to getting comfortable
- 14:49Speaker 3: on stage as a rapper, because you're already comfortable on stage,
- 14:51Speaker 3: like this is kind of what you do.
- 14:53Speaker 1: So with the rapping, you can do a lot on
- 14:58Speaker 1: your own. I think you can if you really are
- 15:04Speaker 1: being about it, you can really improve your stage show
- 15:09Speaker 1: as a as a musician, you could take leaps and
- 15:12Speaker 1: bounds over the course of three months, you know what
- 15:15Speaker 1: I mean, Like just huge leaps. Yeah, you can take
- 15:19Speaker 1: huge leaps in three months as far as your music
- 15:22Speaker 1: show stand up. I don't know if you take the
- 15:24Speaker 1: same leaps just three years reps.
- 15:26Speaker 3: It comes to you know, life experience and come from
- 15:29Speaker 3: send back and then you get better or you know
- 15:31Speaker 3: what I mean.
- 15:32Speaker 1: So that's the one where you know you can kind
- 15:35Speaker 1: of you can and even in process you could pull
- 15:41Speaker 1: things from people with this being in the studio. It's
- 15:44Speaker 1: not stealing something. It's just like, oh I see I
- 15:46Speaker 1: am a feller. Just get the thought you see say
- 15:48Speaker 1: you hear somebody rap and say, okay, get in the booth,
- 15:50Speaker 1: get that down. You know, like somebody's just syst that
- 15:52Speaker 1: that gets other people to act on their instincts in
- 15:55Speaker 1: the in the room.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Right is I think like sharing creative juice is a
- 15:59Speaker 3: little bit more encouraged. Yeah, that type is so like
- 16:01Speaker 3: if you sampled some shit or like took a cadence
- 16:03Speaker 3: from another song and put it on your song. It's
- 16:05Speaker 3: it's not like a crazy thing in comedy if they
- 16:09Speaker 3: perceive you stealing jokes, you almost like it kind of
- 16:12Speaker 3: like blackballed at Yeah, it's a uh you just lose
- 16:17Speaker 3: yourself in this ship more. Uh.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Where I was on the show recently, I was trying
- 16:26Speaker 1: to it's a lot to think about it if you
- 16:28Speaker 1: want to think about it while you're in your show.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You know what I mean. You got band, you got lights,
- 16:33Speaker 1: there's a lot of stuff. It's a lot to think
- 16:35Speaker 1: about if you want to think about it. But then
- 16:36Speaker 1: I had the middle of the show, I was like
- 16:38Speaker 1: just where about the next line and saying the ship
- 16:42Speaker 1: out of that, and the physicality that comes with that,
- 16:46Speaker 1: like each each bar and just and then that compounds
- 16:49Speaker 1: throughout the show and then the show. It just went
- 16:51Speaker 1: up in one of my best shows because the energy
- 16:53Speaker 1: was there and I just focused on each line and
- 16:56Speaker 1: just being in it. And so yeah, man, it's it's
- 17:01Speaker 1: been a real cool time because you know, last year
- 17:05Speaker 1: this show was better than last year's show. Next year
- 17:09Speaker 1: show gonna be better than this year show, and so

- 20:10Speaker 3: come on, hey they show down. Yeah.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I'm from the West Side of Chicago.
- 20:14Speaker 3: So the Wild Style, there was a guy na Wild
- 20:17Speaker 3: soid there's a guy named Never I.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Think, yeah, it's a Cohart Cohart. Yeah, I love that album.
- 20:23Speaker 1: The Final Style by my sign. Hay still goes crazy
- 20:29Speaker 1: anywhere in Chicago. Do you like the original Hay or
- 20:31Speaker 1: the remix? Uh? I like the original, but it might
- 20:38Speaker 1: be so there's like a remix, but I remember the remix.
- 20:40Speaker 3: There was like a remix that I I'm probably the
- 20:44Speaker 3: only person on earth who likes the Hay remix more
- 20:46Speaker 3: than the original because I found the Hay Remix first
- 20:49Speaker 3: on like a one of those fucking singles. Used to
- 20:52Speaker 3: be able to buy it, like the warehouse or Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 3: So I only had the remix and then I got
- 20:56Speaker 3: the album and the original was like a little slower.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I was like, I already thought that the remix was
- 21:02Speaker 3: the original. Yeah, so I hear the original and it's
- 21:06Speaker 3: just like Hey. The remix is like, hey, now, hey,
- 21:09Speaker 3: now we're smoking on Hey, that's just a fucking anyway. Continue.
- 21:12Speaker 2: That's how I am with California Love.
- 21:14Speaker 1: There's a there's a remix with the Do Do Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: but the more popular one is I'm Always Yeah, going
- 21:24Speaker 1: off a little. I'm like, what the this is the
- 21:26Speaker 1: better one? But I guess it's all. It's a matter
- 21:28Speaker 1: of taste, all subjectives.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Man, do a die.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Man? Listen, Yeah, do or Die? Pope, pimpin I love
- 21:37Speaker 3: do or Die?
- 21:37Speaker 1: In juke music, man, juke music not on the red.
- 21:40Speaker 1: But that's just the production of juke music is a
- 21:42Speaker 1: big influence. You know, I produced sometimes too. So my
- 21:46Speaker 1: track but I Was at the Airport is kind of
- 21:48Speaker 1: that faster paced, chaotic one sample you know.
- 21:52Speaker 3: That was that in Chicago.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that was just always. You know, if you go
- 21:56Speaker 1: to a party in high school, it'll play all juke
- 21:58Speaker 1: songs for about two hours and then one slow song
- 22:02Speaker 1: at the end.
- 22:03Speaker 3: At the end of the party. What was the name
- 22:04Speaker 3: of the Do or Die album? Or it was a penny?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Was a picture? This was that the name of that album? Yeah, Like,
- 22:10Speaker 3: if you the Do or Die album, it was a
- 22:12Speaker 3: penny like the CD itself when you took it out. Yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 3: I think it's called picture This. That could be wrong,
- 22:18Speaker 3: I remember, but that's the one that had Pope pimping
- 22:20Speaker 3: on it.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Okay, oh man, I like steel Pop Pimp And there's
- 22:23Speaker 1: a Doupte remixed too, like Adupe. That was. They even
- 22:26Speaker 1: have like a little that they had a song funk.
- 22:30Speaker 3: What was the song that they had, like maybe like
- 22:32Speaker 3: in two thousand and seven eight they had.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Some ship man shout out to them.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I remember when they had like a there was like
- 22:39Speaker 3: the crucial conflict like super subliminal.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Beef going on with Bone Thugs.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah they would they will be dude.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I had that track with Yay Higher. You hear this song?
- 22:52Speaker 3: You know?
- 22:52Speaker 1: No man, there was a lot.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Of random Chicago artists in the Kanye initial like wave
- 22:59Speaker 3: of I checked out just because they had Ya beats.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah bump Jay no bump Jay for sure. There was
- 23:06Speaker 3: another dude. There was like one dude who I'm Was
- 23:08Speaker 3: he white or was he not white? There was like
- 23:11Speaker 3: I forget, I wish David was here. He would tell me,
- 23:13Speaker 3: but we we would always just like go on fucking
- 23:15Speaker 3: napster and just find random Kanye production and be like, yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 3: who the fuck is this guy?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 23:19Speaker 3: But yeah, man, so because how old are you?
- 23:21Speaker 1: Forty?
- 23:22Speaker 3: Okay, so I'm thirty six, So so I'm like right
- 23:24Speaker 3: behind you. But my cousins and everywhere, I mean, I
- 23:27Speaker 3: got put on a crucial conflict as when I was
- 23:29Speaker 3: like eight in Chicago, did you guys ever get the
- 23:32Speaker 3: Brother Lynch Shit? Did that ever reach you over there?
- 23:35Speaker 1: What was that? Brother Lynch Hung? Oh Man, Brother Lynch
- 23:40Speaker 1: Hung's peak wild horror core rap? Yeah? Like crazy?
- 23:45Speaker 3: Well, I probably when I was like seven or eight
- 23:49Speaker 3: got my first Brother Lynch Hung CD, and I was
- 23:52Speaker 3: actually believed them. So, like he's on this fucking album
- 23:56Speaker 3: and he's talking about like cannibalism, eating babies and shit
- 24:00Speaker 3: it it's crazy. Damn he's he's saying to Tech nine now,
- 24:04Speaker 3: which makes sense, but yo, it's crazy. It's like some
- 24:07Speaker 3: Sacramento like wild ship. So I just didn't know if, like,
- 24:09Speaker 3: you know, because the Chicago ship hit me. I don't
- 24:11Speaker 3: know if the West Coast underground like underbelly horror core rap.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Was he flowing?
- 24:15Speaker 4: No?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Was he he could rap his ass off? Okay, because
- 24:21Speaker 1: that's the thing. Was he flowing? Like just like saying
- 24:25Speaker 1: that ship, just saying it and then letting the beat breathe,
- 24:28Speaker 1: and he's just just like you know.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Brother Lyn.
- 24:31Speaker 1: He has an album called Season of the Sickness.
- 24:35Speaker 3: This the album hold on, what's the fucking sor hes
- 24:38Speaker 3: talking about?
- 24:44Speaker 1: When you see me put that night up in that
- 24:46Speaker 1: pussy home? Cocky back slow, come on, man, that's all
- 24:52Speaker 1: over the room.
- 24:53Speaker 3: This whole this whole song is about him feeding his children,
- 24:57Speaker 3: other children.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't get that in those It's like that wait, wait,
- 25:06Speaker 1: it gets weird. I'm still recovering from the opening line,
- 25:11Speaker 1: you better pray when I put my nine up in
- 25:13Speaker 1: your buzzy yo.
- 25:23Speaker 3: And watch the baby brains drip out their fetus. Bro,
- 25:31Speaker 3: guess what daddy's bringing home for?
- 25:33Speaker 1: Supp up nuts and guts and slaps of human meat.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Motherfucker now eat.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the that's the power of flowing melody. Man's like, hey,
- 25:44Speaker 3: this guy, that song has eight million listens on Spotify
- 25:50Speaker 3: right now.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a classic.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It's just you know, there was like that weird horror core.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Like there was like neckro and like yeah, uh I
- 25:59Speaker 3: just I actually thought that was real. So I was
- 26:01Speaker 3: always like damn, I don't know if I should have
- 26:03Speaker 3: to see that as a kid and shit, but yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 3: I mean he had that niche. I'm glad I could.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I'm glad I could educate your on brother lynch Hon.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yeah I'm about to.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, he's like, I'm not about to listen to that.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Everything I have to now even No, that's the thing
- 26:17Speaker 1: is now I have to.
- 26:19Speaker 3: So you're kind of like around it, like you're really
- 26:21Speaker 3: coming up on like common drops Resurrection and like can
- 26:24Speaker 3: I borrow a dollar? And like the super early common
- 26:26Speaker 3: sense ship like my high school yeah high school?
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, so I graduated in two thousand. Trying
- 26:34Speaker 1: to think of what albums I had early on, like
- 26:37Speaker 1: Reasonable Doubt Drop, I had to rake Ray Kwan only
- 26:42Speaker 1: building cute links that nas verse on verbal intercourse. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: didn't know what he was talking about as a kid,
- 26:49Speaker 1: but that ship sounded fly and I memorized it. Uh.
- 26:55Speaker 1: But I like.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Novelty stuff back then too.
- 26:58Speaker 1: As a kid, I remember having deon Sanders must be
- 27:02Speaker 1: the money, uh ninety five South like boof there, like
- 27:05Speaker 1: that shit that you know, the Sanders. Yeah, yeah, man,
- 27:09Speaker 1: there was a CD that I had as a kid,
- 27:11Speaker 1: and it was every different it was like a compilation
- 27:16Speaker 1: and every song was a different NBA player rapping. Oh yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 1: and like Jason Kidd had a song, Fucking Mitch Richmond
- 27:23Speaker 1: had a song.
- 27:24Speaker 3: It was just like terrible music. But I bought it
- 27:27Speaker 3: because I was like a basketball fan. I was like, wait,
- 27:29Speaker 3: I could hear all these NBA players rap. It was
- 27:32Speaker 3: a bad, bad purchase at the end of the day.
- 27:34Speaker 2: But yeah, you think Shaq did it all right?
- 27:38Speaker 1: He had some joints just having a Is it more
- 27:40Speaker 1: about them having this in the room with them to
- 27:43Speaker 1: get it? Yeah?
- 27:43Speaker 3: Because I think Shaq had some ship. Yeah he had to,
- 27:46Speaker 3: you know, you can't stop doing some joints and good
- 27:50Speaker 3: presence too. Just he had black thought on ship. He
- 27:52Speaker 3: had he before once that jay z nos Beef got
- 27:56Speaker 3: out of hand, you could actually go back and Shaq
- 27:59Speaker 3: had a song with both them on the same record.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So was it these basketball players?
- 28:04Speaker 2: Were they really bad?
- 28:06Speaker 3: I think was actually a decent rapper?
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 28:08Speaker 3: Or with the other ones though, what they necessarily bad
- 28:11Speaker 3: or they just have bad an r I don't know.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Did you ever hear Kobe song? I did, but it
- 28:17Speaker 1: doesn't it's not good. Yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 3: That was like and then you have like fucking Ai
- 28:21Speaker 3: who was dropping like you know he had he was
- 28:23Speaker 3: like Ellen Iverson aka Jewels, and he had an album
- 28:26Speaker 3: that was just all kinds of fucking street shit.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You know. I think he might have gotten in trouble
- 28:30Speaker 1: for putting that album. I don't remember.
- 28:32Speaker 3: He was talking to crazy shit as like a millionaire,
- 28:34Speaker 3: as like a guy who's got his own rebox shoe.
- 28:37Speaker 1: People got to express man. Sometimes just some stuff that
- 28:40Speaker 1: you can't say with the dribble in a jump shot.
- 28:42Speaker 1: You know, you gotta just get in the steward, let
- 28:45Speaker 1: that shit fly for sure. We got it. You know,
- 28:47Speaker 1: I don't want to say this with twenty thousand people
- 28:49Speaker 1: around me. I don't want to say this by myself.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Who is your in your like go to when it
- 28:55Speaker 3: comes to artists that you're you've you've got, you know
- 28:58Speaker 3: obviously building friendships with where you can send them records
- 29:01Speaker 3: and get their opinion back on them.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Uh, Open Mike Eagle. I sent him a lot of stuff.
- 29:11Speaker 1: But yeah, I said, open Mike Eagle some stuff? Who
- 29:14Speaker 1: else I was sending I was sending a lot of
- 29:19Speaker 1: people stuff When I made my track Kept about Three.
- 29:21Speaker 1: It used to be called Kawhii freestyle. It was like
- 29:23Speaker 1: fourteen minutes long, and I was it was November twenty twenty,
- 29:28Speaker 1: so deep pandemic. Oh yeah, that's the perfect time that
- 29:32Speaker 1: I would never send people just a fourteen minute freestyle now.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But I was so hyped about it and I just
- 29:36Speaker 1: felt I felt the progression and just liked how the
- 29:39Speaker 1: track sounds. And I was just sending out to everybody.
- 29:41Speaker 1: It's just like, hey, look I can.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Rap for foes.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It was. It wasn't all cool. He's we had it.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It definitely has, you know, we cut it down, but
- 29:50Speaker 1: it was an exciting time. I was sending that to
- 29:52Speaker 1: everybody I knew at the at the time, I said,
- 29:55Speaker 1: that's a hell of people just say, look like I
- 29:57Speaker 1: sent this shit. But yeah, Mike, give some good, good
- 30:01Speaker 1: feedback on stuff, and uh, it's just stuff to fly low.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Sometimes I'll sit, you know, just see what he thinks.
- 30:09Speaker 1: But uh, it's been it's been dope, man. It's just
- 30:13Speaker 1: you know, just keep on learning, progressing. I want to
- 30:18Speaker 1: be able to play drums in my set three five
- 30:20Speaker 1: years from now. You know, I'm practicing ship and you know,
- 30:23Speaker 1: getting on.
- 30:25Speaker 3: That show that I remember seeing him live, crazy and
- 30:28Speaker 3: I didn't doing the whole ship. And I remember seeing
- 30:32Speaker 3: that pitchfork hears back and I didn't know you could
- 30:35Speaker 3: do that.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I thought I didn't know that was possible. I thought
- 30:37Speaker 1: that was for my mother.
- 30:38Speaker 3: He playing keys or playing guitar or only on the
- 30:41Speaker 3: mic and not the d He's just shredding on the
- 30:43Speaker 3: drums while doing all his verses.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it is tough.
- 30:47Speaker 3: He's an alien for sure.
- 30:48Speaker 1: So uh yeah, man, it's been you know, it's dope
- 30:52Speaker 1: to learn, and it's this exciting time man for short time,
- 30:56Speaker 1: just to work on the work on the ship and
- 30:58Speaker 1: getting the details of it.
- 31:01Speaker 3: We talked about this off off the air, but I
- 31:04Speaker 3: was telling you how much I loved you on the
- 31:06Speaker 3: Eric Andre Show.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 3: That show was revolutionary in my opinion. We were talking like,
- 31:11Speaker 3: I feel like it really did have a heavy influence
- 31:13Speaker 3: on guys like Kayla Presley and Homie Marker or not
- 31:15Speaker 3: Homi Marko. Homi Marker was my friend, Funny Marco. Yeah,
- 31:19Speaker 3: and uh, there was just some of the wildest shit
- 31:24Speaker 3: ever on that show, and you were like the funniest
- 31:27Speaker 3: fucking co host, Like give me kind of like the
- 31:32Speaker 3: I know a lot of the people who came onto
- 31:34Speaker 3: the show had some sort of idea it was like, oh,
- 31:35Speaker 3: maybe a Comedy Central show, but they really didn't. Did
- 31:37Speaker 3: most of the people like not really have a clue
- 31:40Speaker 3: what the fuck they were walking into.
- 31:41Speaker 1: First couple of seasons, and especially the first season was
- 31:45Speaker 1: probably the you know, the purest version of it because
- 31:54Speaker 1: they it was. But it wasn't that many celebrity fake
- 31:58Speaker 1: celebs on. There were so many random the video quality
- 32:03Speaker 1: was lower, it had a different aesthetic, and and that
- 32:06Speaker 1: one it really wasn't anything, you know what I mean.
- 32:08Speaker 1: It had no no history or no footprint for people
- 32:11Speaker 1: to research, so it was just people. The folks that
- 32:14Speaker 1: work you know, popping on would taking a chance shout
- 32:18Speaker 1: out to dof Lungern and send back who else.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Was on that first season? But those are fun man.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And then as it grew, some people were fans of it.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Every want to come up, and I think some people
- 32:34Speaker 1: still didn't you know, know about it. I can't speak
- 32:38Speaker 1: for everybody's experience or due diligence on that, of course,
- 32:41Speaker 1: of course, but if some people definitely surprised and like,
- 32:45Speaker 1: whoa what is happening? People? You know, uh, like are
- 32:49Speaker 1: you there?
- 32:49Speaker 3: You're you're there for the TI episode, right, Yeah, okay,
- 32:52Speaker 3: So what happens when it's cut?
- 32:55Speaker 1: You know, I want to say the TI episode that
- 32:58Speaker 1: Dick popped up through the table.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Sure, I know it was like some stuff from the.
- 33:02Speaker 3: There was the floor, and then I think that he's
- 33:05Speaker 3: talking about taking a bone pill and then a fucking
- 33:08Speaker 3: dildo just shot up through the desk, And so I'm
- 33:11Speaker 3: just wondering once it's over, how awkward is the like
- 33:14Speaker 3: hey man, like or they're like, yo, fuck y'all.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Like, I mean I saw him at other stuff after that,
- 33:23Speaker 1: but yeah, I don't really. I just socialized too much.
- 33:28Speaker 3: After Or was it like ever a point where like
- 33:30Speaker 3: we didn't see a lot of the crazy shit like
- 33:31Speaker 3: because people were really mad?
- 33:33Speaker 1: Or did anybody ever get really mad? Because there was
- 33:35Speaker 1: some wild got mad? Maybe one chick Cukee Lauren Conrad, Yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 1: Laura Conrad, maybe Lufarrigo or something was upset. Yeah it didn't.
- 33:54Speaker 1: It's uh, yeah it was.
- 33:58Speaker 3: It was.
- 34:00Speaker 2: It's been a minute too, Like That's why I'm like
- 34:02Speaker 2: trying to.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like just the last full season I did
- 34:06Speaker 1: was twenty fifteen.
- 34:08Speaker 3: You know, they had like these versions of you after
- 34:10Speaker 3: that like yeah, which was fucking hilarious.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah, uh he did.
- 34:16Speaker 1: You know, they do good with story and just you know,
- 34:18Speaker 1: having the clones and stuff like that. But for the
- 34:21Speaker 1: final season, well not the final season, for my final
- 34:23Speaker 1: season only work one day. That was in twenty nineteen. Uh,
- 34:30Speaker 1: it's a it's a well, you know, well made show
- 34:33Speaker 1: for editing the chaos.
- 34:35Speaker 2: You know, the editors really.
- 34:36Speaker 1: They kill it.
- 34:37Speaker 3: No, it's all about the editing, editing doing it and
- 34:39Speaker 3: they do really good at like cutting cuttings and just
- 34:42Speaker 3: making you know, so it'll be stuff.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Since I'm not in that edit everythings I forgot about
- 34:47Speaker 1: sometimes and I'm watching. Oh I didn't expect y'all to
- 34:50Speaker 1: do that. Uh yeah, some good times.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Speaking of TI, Yeah, you guys are kind of reversing here, right,
- 34:56Speaker 3: he's on rapper, Yeah, trying to get into comedy. Right,
- 35:00Speaker 3: you're a comedian, perceived comedian. You've always done music, but
- 35:03Speaker 3: you know you're a comedian getting into being in a
- 35:07Speaker 3: hip hop artist. Yeah. What do you think about t I?
- 35:10Speaker 3: Because I've seen him starting to like pop up and
- 35:12Speaker 3: do like more open mics and stuff. I know he
- 35:14Speaker 3: was kind of like in the beginning, there was a
- 35:16Speaker 3: lot of these unsaid like comedian rules that he was breaking.
- 35:19Speaker 3: I'm sure he didn't know about, but I know he's
- 35:20Speaker 3: getting a lot of hell amongst the community of stand
- 35:24Speaker 3: up snobs. But like, what do you think about Tip?
- 35:26Speaker 3: And have you have you got to see him live
- 35:28Speaker 3: at all?
- 35:29Speaker 1: Having got to see him live, it's a tougher jump, man,
- 35:32Speaker 1: you know what I mean, to take away the beats
- 35:34Speaker 1: and those uh yeah those and then you also kind
- 35:40Speaker 1: of while you're doing stand up, you're.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Fighting against those memories in the crowd head, you know
- 35:50Speaker 3: what I mean.
- 35:50Speaker 1: It's a tougher jump. And it's not because he's on stage.
- 35:54Speaker 2: And they're like, what you know about that big ship, Papa?
- 35:58Speaker 2: You could do it of you like that's you can do.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Smashes, you know what I mean? That they remember. So
- 36:03Speaker 1: it's a tougher you know, he's taking on a real
- 36:07Speaker 1: it's challenging for any but that's the the musician two
- 36:13Speaker 1: comedian role is way tougher, especially if you're like, let
- 36:18Speaker 1: people do it, superstar.
- 36:19Speaker 3: It's not like I was just like, you know, like
- 36:21Speaker 3: a yeah, decently big rapper who toured. No, he's fucking t.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I like, yeah, I mean he love. You know, he
- 36:27Speaker 1: wanted to take the challenge. He really he enjoyed doing
- 36:30Speaker 1: it and getting something out of it that maybe the
- 36:33Speaker 1: music can't do. Right now, he's still doing music, but
- 36:35Speaker 1: he enjoyed the stand up. So I think you're taking
- 36:37Speaker 1: taking beats away. Man.
- 36:39Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 36:41Speaker 1: And so it's you know, he working at that shop
- 36:43Speaker 1: and you have to make people laugh.
- 36:45Speaker 3: They're not gonna laugh because they like your music, right,
- 36:47Speaker 3: They're gonna laugh because it's a natural reaction to something. Yeah,
- 36:51Speaker 3: they they that's the thing that's ship in here. You know,
- 36:54Speaker 3: they might show up because they like your music, show up,
- 36:56Speaker 3: they laugh.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Right, It's a tougher it's a tougher role, man, stand
- 36:59Speaker 1: up a tougher road. That's why I don't do it
- 37:03Speaker 1: as much anymore, because it is just like i'd rather
- 37:06Speaker 1: just you know, tell some stories over these beats that
- 37:09Speaker 1: I like that I and then practice that shit fifty
- 37:13Speaker 1: times before I even see people.
- 37:16Speaker 3: You know, right, I was gonna say for you, like,
- 37:18Speaker 3: how much of the music is kind of, you know,
- 37:23Speaker 3: semi comedic where you're able to kind of like, hey,
- 37:26Speaker 3: I might make this song because I know it's gonna
- 37:27Speaker 3: be funny, and I know I can make a great
- 37:29Speaker 3: music video to make people laugh because you played me
- 37:32Speaker 3: some other shit where you were like borring the fuck out. Yeah, Like,
- 37:35Speaker 3: so for you, is it like a because you're obviously
- 37:37Speaker 3: a funny guy. You enjoy creating and you.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Know, yeah, I was battling with that early on, like,
- 37:43Speaker 1: oh can I do funny songs? Can I do? But
- 37:45Speaker 1: then can I talk about this and be normal or whatever?
- 37:49Speaker 3: It's just just do what feels right or what feels
- 37:54Speaker 3: good conceptually, and just be honest and know it's it's
- 38:00Speaker 3: honest parts. You know, these all different parts for years
- 38:04Speaker 3: is a real part of me. And the song about
- 38:08Speaker 3: you know, my upbringing in Chicago and high school and
- 38:11Speaker 3: almost getting robbed.
- 38:12Speaker 1: That's a real thing. So it's just being true to
- 38:15Speaker 1: that and you know, performing it, rapping it with with
- 38:21Speaker 1: clarity and confidence, and and writing it to the to
- 38:25Speaker 1: the best of my ability, and you know, trusting it
- 38:29Speaker 1: and all of that. So yeah, I don't you know
- 38:32Speaker 1: some of the like on the single side right now,
- 38:35Speaker 1: they're a little more playful Veneers and the next one
- 38:39Speaker 1: out ways withinnis Emma. You know, after the album, I
- 38:43Speaker 1: have more songs that are big, grounded. You know, and
- 38:47Speaker 1: have elements of humor and some songs is borrowing out.
- 38:50Speaker 1: So I'm just excited to you know, put together the
- 38:54Speaker 1: full project. And uh, I don't even have a name yet.
- 38:59Speaker 1: I was thinking about calling it Teetering on the Edge
- 39:02Speaker 1: of Reality, Okay, but that's just that's a that's a placeholder.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I'm not sure yet.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Have you found out like, are you like trying to
- 39:10Speaker 3: are you just doing it independently? Are you collaborating with
- 39:12Speaker 3: a label like this independent? Yeah?
- 39:14Speaker 1: Straight indie, straight indie, Yeah. District of Pocket, Venice, Venice, Yeah, district.
- 39:20Speaker 3: They're a great distribution company, the distribute my homegow tweet
- 39:23Speaker 3: shout out to tweet.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know, they as some some good artist
- 39:26Speaker 1: services over there. But yeah, just you know, want to
- 39:30Speaker 1: do well put it out. I don't really have I
- 39:33Speaker 1: think I think it's got some good records, man. So
- 39:35Speaker 1: I'm just excited to put out that type of body
- 39:39Speaker 1: of work and design to show around us around it
- 39:43Speaker 1: and have these different experiences.
- 39:46Speaker 3: You know, right, what are your thoughts on like, because
- 39:49Speaker 3: I think when I want to say, when I first
- 39:50Speaker 3: moved to la I moved out here the beginning of
- 39:53Speaker 3: twenty seventeen and it felt like it was kind of
- 39:56Speaker 3: like maybe the peak of like the com Many store
- 40:00Speaker 3: being just like a crazy place to go to and like, yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 3: just pay for a Tuesday ticket and just see who comes,
- 40:05Speaker 3: Like I say, Chappelle there, I said. It's it's like,
- 40:08Speaker 3: it feels like Joe Rogan moving to Austin and opening
- 40:12Speaker 3: this comedy mothership, and it feels like a lot of
- 40:15Speaker 3: that kind of energy has moved to Texas. Like have
- 40:17Speaker 3: you got to go and check out his new club
- 40:20Speaker 3: or I haven't been.
- 40:21Speaker 1: To the to the club, but I hear that people
- 40:25Speaker 1: having a good time and comedians get get paid well nice,
- 40:29Speaker 1: nice facilities, well designed spot. What I've seen online about it,
- 40:34Speaker 1: Uh yeah, it's it's it's dope that he got that spot.
- 40:40Speaker 1: I haven't really been out doing comedy much in La Man.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I really be at the music stuff in the studio.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I haven't been popping up like that. But so, yeah,
- 40:51Speaker 1: it's a different it's a super different time.
- 40:57Speaker 3: It almost feels like nowadays right like if you're if
- 41:00Speaker 3: you're back in the day, yeah, you would want to
- 41:03Speaker 3: get into movies, you would want to get into having
- 41:06Speaker 3: a sitcom as a comedian, Like nowadays you just gotta
- 41:09Speaker 3: like you gotta kind of have a podcast.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Podcast. I mean that's a big that's the you know
- 41:16Speaker 1: kind of the mixtape.
- 41:18Speaker 3: It's like the mixtape for comedy.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like everybody you get, you drop the podcast.
- 41:22Speaker 3: You get people excited. So then when you hit the road,
- 41:24Speaker 3: they come and buy tickets.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and they get to see you in a you know,
- 41:28Speaker 1: I mean, it's still a performance, but it's it's more
- 41:32Speaker 1: toned down, more natural. You don't have to play for
- 41:35Speaker 1: that laugh, So they get to know you more as
- 41:36Speaker 1: a as a human being. So it's it's why a
- 41:38Speaker 1: lot of the folks have found success because they and
- 41:41Speaker 1: you're able to just do it. It's low cost. You
- 41:44Speaker 1: do a bunch of you can do five a week.
- 41:46Speaker 1: You be like, okay, I'm doing the sports. When I'm
- 41:48Speaker 1: doing it, you could really really work it and let
- 41:50Speaker 1: people see different different sides. The podcast game. It's got
- 41:54Speaker 1: people playing really big buildings, man out here and selling
- 41:58Speaker 1: a lot of tickets. It's, uh, it's a cool It's
- 42:01Speaker 1: it's really cool to see. Yeah, it's pretty crazy. You'll
- 42:04Speaker 1: see like like shout out to my guy Shoals.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Like Shoals is like he was a brilliant idiot forever
- 42:08Speaker 3: with Charlotte Man and the flagrant thing just goes crazy
- 42:11Speaker 3: and he's like a brilliant comedian, great comed Yeah, you
- 42:14Speaker 3: can to see him do like you know, some of
- 42:17Speaker 3: the venues he's doing.
- 42:18Speaker 1: It's just crazy. It's it's dope, man. People just people
- 42:23Speaker 1: build it up. Man, We're all making this up. So
- 42:25Speaker 1: it's just as you go, you know, and you know
- 42:28Speaker 1: you make it up, and you keep making it up,
- 42:30Speaker 1: and you know, hey, I'm doing here, I'm going here,
- 42:33Speaker 1: y'all coming. You make you keep making it up and
- 42:37Speaker 1: keep building. Man, it's just create a life.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Dog.
- 42:40Speaker 3: It's a I think I doesn't saying I think comedy
- 42:43Speaker 3: is kind of like hip hop, Like when we talk
- 42:44Speaker 3: about like the Goats, there's like eras like to me,
- 42:47Speaker 3: like rock him might not have like for listening rock
- 42:52Speaker 3: Hi's a bad example. But like if you go back
- 42:54Speaker 3: to like maybe like run DMC right, like run DMC
- 42:56Speaker 3: like started this ship. Yeah, run DMC musically or maybe
- 43:00Speaker 3: even lyrically, might not necessarily be on the same level
- 43:02Speaker 3: as Kendrick Lamore, but their significance to the cultures as
- 43:08Speaker 3: greater or greater, you know what I mean. But on
- 43:10Speaker 3: the comedy side, who would you say this era of
- 43:12Speaker 3: comedy like? On the like let's say since you've been
- 43:15Speaker 3: like super active, let's say the last fifteen to twenty years, like,
- 43:18Speaker 3: who would you put on the mount rushmore? It is
- 43:20Speaker 3: summertime if you're dealing with rectile dysfunction ed, if you will,
- 43:24Speaker 3: Maybe you got stress at work, Maybe you're tired of

- 49:51Speaker 3: We're gonna frame it. We're gonna put it right on
- 49:53Speaker 3: the side, you know. Yeah, there there it is.
- 50:05Speaker 1: There it is. Yeah.
- 50:07Speaker 3: You know what's crazy is like Tucker Cross and Ship.
- 50:09Speaker 1: It's like.
- 50:11Speaker 3: I just remember back in the day, like John Stewart
- 50:13Speaker 3: roasting him with his little fucking bow tie on, like
- 50:16Speaker 3: I think he was on CEE it and then and
- 50:18Speaker 3: like it's just he's a goof for sure.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't even and I don't You don't have
- 50:23Speaker 1: to tell me. I don't even know exactly what happened.
- 50:25Speaker 1: I just know they were like Tucker Carlson's out. It's
- 50:28Speaker 1: crazy because it happened the same day that John Lemon
- 50:30Speaker 1: got fired. Okay, yeah I was. I was watching Roy
- 50:35Speaker 1: Wood Jr. The Correspondence. He killed it all, Yeah, he
- 50:39Speaker 1: killed it. But it was a few things I was
- 50:41Speaker 1: just finding out from him from like, wait a minute,
- 50:45Speaker 1: let me Yeah, I don't get the joke. Even the
- 50:49Speaker 1: the nf T. The Clarence Thomas Joe was really funny.
- 50:53Speaker 1: But I didn't know that that that situation was going on.
- 50:55Speaker 1: It was just finding out a lot of news. He
- 50:58Speaker 1: did his thing on there. He used.
- 50:59Speaker 3: I want to say, did he U see the prank
- 51:00Speaker 3: calls back he calls? That's how he started in ninety nine.
- 51:04Speaker 3: I want to say, I had like a CD of
- 51:06Speaker 3: his print calls. His prank calls were fucking epic. That's
- 51:09Speaker 3: how he built his UH following initially out of It's
- 51:12Speaker 3: out of Birmingham.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, Roy's dope man.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Yeah, Roy's super dope man for you, man, Like, uh,
- 51:18Speaker 3: is there any of the up and coming artists ors
- 51:20Speaker 3: current artists in hip hop that you get inspired by?
- 51:23Speaker 3: I know you.
- 51:23Speaker 1: We just had Cordy's manager here. You were in his video.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Is there anybody who's like, you know, kind of in
- 51:27Speaker 3: that era of music that you actually like because a
- 51:30Speaker 3: lot of this ship is terrible.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Uh, it's a lot of it's a lot of good stuff.
- 51:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of good Stuff's a lot of good
- 51:35Speaker 1: stuff out there. Yo. It's more on R and B.
- 51:41Speaker 1: But I just heard it, uh the other day, you know, Jordan.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Ward, I heard it. I've heard the name, I haven't.
- 51:48Speaker 1: He has some good tracks, man, his album. One of
- 51:52Speaker 1: them one of the songs popped up on my discovery
- 51:55Speaker 1: and then I listened to the rest of the album.
- 51:58Speaker 1: But it sounds good. Well for Lido, who's really dope
- 52:02Speaker 1: producer produced a lot of it. Uh.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Smino got a crazy flows fire.
- 52:10Speaker 1: His flow was crazy, And I mean.
- 52:16Speaker 3: It's who else is new or that? Trying to think
- 52:21Speaker 3: of folks man Nomo's fire. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that
- 52:26Speaker 3: like that flow. It's just one of those things.
- 52:29Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know how that's happening. It's
- 52:32Speaker 1: some people you like that's dope, but then it's some
- 52:35Speaker 1: people I don't understand how that's happening right, Yeah, have.
- 52:39Speaker 3: You uh take take me back as somebody who had
- 52:42Speaker 3: high interest in comedy, high interest in music? How dope
- 52:46Speaker 3: was it? Like? Was there uh when the double XL
- 52:50Speaker 3: cover came out with Dave Chappelle Dead Press, I want
- 52:53Speaker 3: to say Kanye was on there, Telemqual, he was on there.
- 52:56Speaker 3: He did such a good job of bringing the two
- 52:58Speaker 3: worlds together with the Chappelle shown. Just I just think
- 53:00Speaker 3: of that whole and the block party, and I just
- 53:03Speaker 3: it was amazing, like like for you, like how how
- 53:06Speaker 3: how you know? Important was that as an up and
- 53:09Speaker 3: coming comedian who's also obviously an artist, Like he did
- 53:13Speaker 3: such a good job I think of it. I really
- 53:15Speaker 3: feel like he successfully bridged like two eras of comedy
- 53:19Speaker 3: and music together.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Definitely. Man, it's just how he he brings people together,
- 53:24Speaker 1: and with his shows and and and performances, it's been
- 53:29Speaker 1: cool to to really watch. I snuck into a Chapelle
- 53:31Speaker 1: show years back when I was in Chicago. I think
- 53:35Speaker 1: it was four h five when he was doing stand up. Yeah,
- 53:38Speaker 1: at the height of Chapelle show Congress Theater, and I
- 53:41Speaker 1: ain't have money for a take, and I tried to
- 53:44Speaker 1: and it was I was just started. I've tried to
- 53:46Speaker 1: like go in and be like I'm a comedian. It
- 53:48Speaker 1: like that doesn't No one cares, White cares, and so
- 53:50Speaker 1: I just started looking around the building and just found
- 53:52Speaker 1: an open door, got in and got in, and uh
- 53:56Speaker 1: so it was did I was wild And then the
- 53:59Speaker 1: you know, years later to do a lot of shows
- 54:01Speaker 1: with him, It made it super surreal, like damn, I
- 54:05Speaker 1: used to sneak in your ship. He's super cool too.
- 54:07Speaker 3: Yeah. I got really high with him once. Uh it
- 54:10Speaker 3: was actually a four Day's album release party. It was me,
- 54:13Speaker 3: Dave Chappelle and uh the guy who played Steve Rkle,
- 54:20Speaker 3: Julia Julil White. Yeah, and I was like, this is
- 54:26Speaker 3: interur Like what is happening right now? Man? Someone told
- 54:29Speaker 3: me as a twelve year old, I'd be in a
- 54:31Speaker 3: fucking joint circle with Dave Chappelle and Steve. I had
- 54:34Speaker 3: a Steve Vernkle toy as a kid, like the pull
- 54:37Speaker 3: Did I do that? Like it's crazy? Man, life is
- 54:39Speaker 3: made up? Man stuff happening. Yeah, when do you plan
- 54:43Speaker 3: on putting out this this album?
- 54:45Speaker 1: Man? July July? Targeting July twenty first, and then looking
- 54:55Speaker 1: to do I'm doing sb's June fourteenth.
- 54:58Speaker 3: Hey, that's a big deal for any up and coming
- 54:59Speaker 3: to hip artists to do an SOB show.
- 55:01Speaker 1: I'm hyped about it, man. Just to you know, I've
- 55:03Speaker 1: I've performed there years back, ten years ago. Shit with Chance.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Actually I did stand Up for a Chance twenty thirteen. Yeah,
- 55:15Speaker 1: I just celebrated that birthday of that, So shout out
- 55:18Speaker 1: the Chance. And so I'm yeah, I'm hyped to do
- 55:20Speaker 1: the SOBS man as in headlining. Yeah, headlining, I'm gonna
- 55:24Speaker 1: do it. I'm gonna do the you know, stand up
- 55:26Speaker 1: and music set, so I do stand up at the beginning,
- 55:29Speaker 1: special guests and stuff. And who's opening for you? A
- 55:32Speaker 1: comedian or an artist. I think we'll have one comedian,
- 55:36Speaker 1: one artist. May a couple of artists probably have. I
- 55:42Speaker 1: got Highlay Supreme. It was dope singer. He produced one
- 55:45Speaker 1: of my track knee Brace and this other track Paradox
- 55:50Speaker 1: on my project, and so he's amazing performer. Actually he
- 55:55Speaker 1: give me a little tips in the studio where he'll say, hey,
- 55:57Speaker 1: you got a smile while you're recording. They can hear it.
- 56:00Speaker 1: They can hear it through the mic. They can hear
- 56:01Speaker 1: it through the mic. And so I'll do a take
- 56:03Speaker 1: and if you sounded and that sometime if you're doing
- 56:05Speaker 1: a take and then it'll sound flat, and then I'll
- 56:08Speaker 1: I'll recut and and and smiling, it'll sound completely different
- 56:12Speaker 1: than you're thinking. That.
- 56:13Speaker 3: That's true. Yeah, that's somewhere. I mean, that's like the
- 56:15Speaker 3: little ship like that. Yeah, you gotta kind of know
- 56:18Speaker 3: from being in the studio so much.
- 56:20Speaker 1: He'll he just he'll he'll stand in front of you
- 56:22Speaker 1: be like hey, man, like doing warm up ship. And
- 56:27Speaker 1: so it's always just dope to learn from folks. It's
- 56:29Speaker 1: always something to to learn from and and improve as
- 56:33Speaker 1: far as the apply studio and the show man. So yeah,
- 56:38Speaker 1: it's gonna be and I'm I'm the show gonna be
- 56:41Speaker 1: on on point.
- 56:42Speaker 3: S OB's Wednesday, s OB's June fourteenth. You do anything
- 56:47Speaker 3: in La, I'm gonna do something. I'm supposed to do
- 56:50Speaker 3: the Moroccan. It might be in the fault when I'm
- 56:52Speaker 3: in La. I don't have anything set, but I'll do
- 56:55Speaker 3: something in La soon, probably around the album drop.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:59Speaker 3: I always wonder, like with the you know, we always
- 57:02Speaker 3: hear about like how it's a little harder to do
- 57:04Speaker 3: certain jokes nowadays, cause pople get offended. Yeah, I think
- 57:07Speaker 3: a lot of that's a little blown out of proportion.
- 57:10Speaker 3: But you know, we are in a much more sensitive climate,
- 57:13Speaker 3: a much more divisive climate, right do you think it's
- 57:16Speaker 3: a lot harder for stand up comedians nowadays?
- 57:20Speaker 1: I can't speak to it like for really in them,
- 57:23Speaker 1: you know, because I'm not living it in the same way.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Even like two or three years ago. Like you know,
- 57:28Speaker 3: like I feel like it's just like people get I
- 57:32Speaker 3: just I feel like people are all as much as
- 57:33Speaker 3: they want to laugh, they also want to get offended.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Nowadays, you gotta do your shit, man, you know what
- 57:37Speaker 1: I mean. That ain't over really, you know, there's always
- 57:41Speaker 1: as many people's If people offend it, there's gonna be
- 57:44Speaker 1: other people that want that type of stuff. So you
- 57:46Speaker 1: just worry about your show, where about who's there, and
- 57:50Speaker 1: just right and perform to the best of your ability
- 57:54Speaker 1: and instincts, and that's that's the gig.
- 57:57Speaker 3: Were you doing any of the stuff in Ohio the pandemic,
- 58:00Speaker 3: like those shows that Dave was doing.
- 58:02Speaker 1: I did one?
- 58:04Speaker 3: What was that like? Because he was kind of like
- 58:05Speaker 3: the first guy still kind of like I've heard about it,
- 58:08Speaker 3: Like you had to like get tested on the spot.
- 58:11Speaker 3: It was outside, it was in the middle of nowhere.
- 58:13Speaker 3: There was a lot of people taking flights to go
- 58:14Speaker 3: o Hio to go to this show because it was
- 58:15Speaker 3: almost like the only thing. Yeah, I gotta get to
- 58:17Speaker 3: Ohio because I can go watch comedy, you.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Know, like, yeah, I did it.
- 58:21Speaker 1: It was before because I did a drive in tour,
- 58:23Speaker 1: which I regret.
- 58:25Speaker 2: How was that terrible?
- 58:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it was bad, but it was just you know,
- 58:29Speaker 1: you wanted to do something. And then that first show,
- 58:33Speaker 1: after that first show, I said, how many of these
- 58:36Speaker 1: we got? What am I doing?
- 58:39Speaker 2: And done it? Cancel the whole ship?
- 58:41Speaker 1: Man? It was it was it was, you know, because
- 58:47Speaker 1: the comedy. How many comedians were on tour with you?
- 58:50Speaker 2: It was, uh, it was.
- 58:53Speaker 1: It was my date. So I brought I brought a
- 58:56Speaker 1: couple folks, I think. Yeah, I brought me one or
- 58:59Speaker 1: two folks. And then I did a double bill with
- 59:04Speaker 1: Thundercat at the at the in the Rose parking line.
- 59:09Speaker 1: But it was just doing stand up in that setting.
- 59:12Speaker 1: It just gotta be got to wait because you want
- 59:14Speaker 1: you're waiting for the reaction and you stay in their
- 59:17Speaker 1: cars or they stand sitting outside. But then that even
- 59:20Speaker 1: it's not a typical outdoor getting anybody where everybody set. Yeah,
- 59:24Speaker 1: so it's no vibe, I think. I mean, I'll hopefully
- 59:29Speaker 1: never have to do something like that again, but I
- 59:30Speaker 1: know how i'd approach it. Now, you want to you
- 59:33Speaker 1: do that? And if I have to do stand up
- 59:35Speaker 1: in that setting again, I would do it in tandem
- 59:37Speaker 1: with somebody because then you you can bounce off of
- 59:40Speaker 1: each other on stage, or I would be doing doing music,
- 59:43Speaker 1: which yeah, it was with the Cleveland show.
- 59:47Speaker 2: It was the first short the tour.
- 59:50Speaker 1: It was by Interstate, So on stage, your eye line
- 59:55Speaker 1: is Interstate, so it's trucks going and then so my
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: right it's train tracks Jesus, and then the train got really.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: Active during my set. So it was just so much going.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: And it's my first.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Uh, your first time doing stand up in a while,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: because first time doing stand up in a while, and
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I just, uh, I think maybe a day or two
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: before I found out my daughter was gonna be born,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: but I did not want to talk about it there,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: and so that's really was on my mind. And then
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: I got these other distries, so I wasn't really able
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: to give an honest show or a focused show because
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I see a FedEx, you see trucks and rains keep
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: on going. But then they were all in the car,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: so they got perfect audio of me just bitching about
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: the train. So it's not it's not the same as
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: when there's a Heckler or something that everybody this motherfucker's
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: loud and you roast them in there. My experience and
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: on stage was completely separated from the experience in the car,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: So it made it. It was a weird gig. Man,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: it was a weird gey I'll never forget it. But
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: some of them got better over time. How many did
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: you do? I think we did it, maybe six or seven.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: You can take the b. Kreisher guy. I think he did,
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Like I think he kind of like did that. Yeah,
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: the whole time.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Like it was just it's doable. I'm not saying it's
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: definitely not. You know, it's it's and it's not you
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: know we you know, it got better towards the end
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: once we figured out figured out what this is the vibe, Okay,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: this is it, this is how I'm gonna feel.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: And I had this bit that we were doing.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Since we're doing drivings, I make this character called carsh Mellow.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: It's a DJ character, same aesthetic as marsh Mellow, but
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: only playing songs about driving, so cruising by uh, Smokey Robinson,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: all these drive slow. That's his whole playlist is made
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: the costume for him, for the character and everything, and
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I'm thinking this is about go crazy at the first
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: show and it was like, oh no, they never really
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: fucking with Carshmello like that. We got I had a
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: designer for this. She didn't.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: She didn't.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: She'd include a bunch of matchbox cars to a jumpsuit
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and had the whole fucking suit, costume everything. Yeah, and
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: then it was like, okay, we have to we have
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: to figure out how to introduce Carshmello better in these
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: other cities, Like, okay, Carsmelow needs a hype man. I
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: can't just be out there on his own ship.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: It it was, you know, it was experiment.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: It was fun. But those those gigs, man, they would
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: definitely they were something yeah something though.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: Yeah, So what was the Chappelle setting, like obviously during
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: the pandemic because you said you only did one of them.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Right, I did one of them, uh and that was
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: right before though, So it was it was I remember.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I specifically remember being backstage.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: And I hadn't been anywhere minute, especially not a show,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: and so I remember they had maybe some Jollie Ranchers
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: or something some type, and I was like, oh yeah, dude,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: be snacks and ship down backstage. I forget, like I don't,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I don't even remember anymore. Yeah, like, oh yeah, sometimes
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: you do go backstage. And they got everyone's got access
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: to the same bowl. So let me put this jolly
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: rancher in.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Some before I opened it.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Uh, And so I had a good set man, but
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: it was definitely I remember not being fully.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: Feeling fully socialized.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Yet being such a weird time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Yeah, being in a room and kind of like, hey,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: what's up y'all? Nay, it was you know, it was
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: it felt it felt off. It was a lot of
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: little stuff you guys catch it. Yet from that time, Uh,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I remember a couple months in, I was I was
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: dropping off a Touro car that I was I was
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: renting out here, and then uh, I was running late,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: but I wanted to I want to get it washed
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: before I dropped it back off. And I was like,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: hey man, I'm running late. I gotta stop at the
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: car wash. He was like He's like, no, I don't
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: worry about it. And that's a nah doubt because because
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I hadn't had no nothing to do with so long.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I'm like, you want to go to the car don't
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: take this from You're not taking this errand from me, dog,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I am, I'm going to the car wash. And then
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: the car wash hits differently when you ain't been doing
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: ship that's just a whole productionist. You know, the car
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: started moving water. I was like, this ship is fire.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: The car wash after you've been in the crib on
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: pandemic momument, the car wash hit like specially so late
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: if you're.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Dying the car wash if you really like, yeah, it's
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: a trip, it's a man.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: It made me just appreciate it.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: I'm like, damn this car wash fire dog, And I mean, like,
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: how do I what can I take away from.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: This car wash apply to my show.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: As somebody who has done skits on albums before and
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: as a fan, you know, skits are a lost art
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: form in hip hop, especially on albums. I don't hear
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: skits ever, really, but are you gonna do any skits
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: on the on your body of work? Are you kind
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: of staying away from that because it may be expected.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: No, we have some.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Necessarily skits.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we have a couple of just different pieces of
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: other interviews that I've heard, we got, you know, we're
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: using some stuff as interluds from jam sessions. There's a
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: little dope moments that I remember from jam sessions that
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: might not you know, then I didn't develop into full
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: songs ideas, but you know, taking thirty seconds from this thing,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: there's this fun moment and using some stuff like that.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: So I definitely a really trying to figure out how
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: to make it cohesive and have a lot of dope
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: hearts and and little little moments because I had some
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: fun jams man where you know, That's what I like
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: about creating music is that most of them I could
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: kind of pinpoint, you know, exactly when what you know,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: what what else happened that day, sometimes with with when
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I made certain songs, and uh, and it's a time
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: capsule for for that, so uh, you know, like really
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: digging into the archives for a little bits and and
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: and making it as.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: It's gonna be.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be a dope project because the production
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: is already set to just need some little more, just
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: some rite Fine tuning, Yeah, fine tuning. But the the
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: it's I'm hype, man, I'm so hyped. Give me the
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: run down. What's what albums have you done skits on?
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: And for who?
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Open Mike Eagle, Static selector Little Dicky.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Cool Kid. It's fucking love the cool Kids. Uh. I
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: feel like I'm I feel like that's something else.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: I featured on Quelle, Chris and Jean Gray's project Rapping
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: on their.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Love Jean Gray, Jean Gray Really Dope, Quelly's Super Dope. Yeah.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: I think I feel like I'm forgetting something on the
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: on the Uh were you on the Little Biggest Professional
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Rapper Shit? Yeah? Uh he was, Oh he was. There
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: was a in twenty nineteen eighty eight Keys. He hit
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: me up about doing a skit. He wanted me to
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: kind of do the skits throughout the album, like the
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: narrative art. And at the time I was starting to
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: get into my rapper I just got my studio was
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: kind of I said yeah, but then I didn't really.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: I didn't say yeah fully. I was just like yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: And then he was asking and I was like, man,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I don't really I feel like doing it, And I said,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: you know, I've been delaying it for a little while,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: I say, singing the music so I can get a
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: feel for the for the whole thing, so I can
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: know what I'm doing throughout. And he sent the tracks
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: and then one of the tracks was him Anderson yay
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: and an open.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Verse, and you sent back the open verse with the verse,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: and I did my skits in there, and and I was.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Like, I recorded this open verse. Uh just why not?
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like, you know, even if it never goes out,
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: I got a track with Pack and Yay. You sent
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: it back to him.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: I sent it back to him. Yeah, just because you
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: never know, right, you never know. Yeah, I thought about
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: leaking it, but I was like, you know what, No,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I'm not gonna leak it. But it was just it
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: felt it felt good to just do that. It man,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: have it, and then you can.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: Just listen to that for yourself. This is what I
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: would sound like along some some legends.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't believe Yea is on the track with
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: me of saying it was, uh, you.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: Know, that's a nice flex though, like you could just
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: like for people who don't know a better, but.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: You never have.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: Yes, it was a label shiitting nowadays, with artificial intelligence,
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: anybody could have a song. I just did you see
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: the video of Timbalin being very excited about having an
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: AI biggie verse on one of his.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Beats, Hey, why didn't you just get a cappella something?
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: And it was like.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Big, He's like rapping about like pop, smoke and dog.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: It's fun, you know, it's fun to toy with stuff
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: and fun.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it is a weird time, but you can you
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: can feel it though, even if it sounds dope.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: And was like, yeah, this is it, it doesn't.
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: Yeah, if you could feel, you still feel the AI
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: is not quite you know, hope it never gets there,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: by the way, because then we're gonna be fucking fucked.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: No, it's always gonna be somebody.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: A lot of these movies arena started to come true.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Well, here's the thing. Regular artists have haters. So the
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: AI haters is gonna always flag ship all the time. Uh,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: but AI is a good out And excuse if if
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: you put out a verse that'd.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: Be like, Yo, that wasn't even me.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: That wasn't me, Yo, what are you talking?
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: I wouldn't but I wouldn't betray y'all like that, you know,
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: I got bars or even like imagine like hault Cogan
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: has another racist ass voicemail like.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: A that was AI.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Not this time. Yeah, that's gonna you know, that's gonna happen.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: There's gonna be all kinds of like wild like yeah,
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: they're just gonna be able to it isn't out to
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: not get canceled. That's artificial intelligence AI.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: And then the AI is going that well you yeah, yes,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: it's gonna be it.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: It works both ways.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: It's weird times. You just gotta find piece.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: For sure. All Right, So album coming soon. July twenty
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: first is my targeting date. July twenty first, is my Yeah,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: are you documenting any of this? I am okay because
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I feel like this is you know, this is definitely
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: this also feels like it could be like a pretty
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: good like FX show.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: I thought about, yeah about just like.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: Just like the struggles of Hannibal Bird's like becoming an
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: up and coming artist.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple of people pitch me on it. I've
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: got a couple you know.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: Like a show that kind of mirrors the reality, like
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: you know how like Louis had his show and yeah,
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: you know Dave shows amazing.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Yeah, a little Dicky shows great, you like it? Yeah, man,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: he's this season well done. I was just watching the Jackson,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Mississippi episode last night.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Super behind on this. I've only seen the first two.
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: I haven't had time to like hone in on I
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: like to. I'm waiting for it to finish, and then
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: I just watch them all.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they're doing When you see the vision somebody vision fully,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: you know, it's almost like it was like his playing
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: the whole time, like you know, yeah, I mean the
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: type of you know, his music was very story and deep.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: You know, the videos VI super detailed and everything, and
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: he's a he's a you know, he got he got
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: a lot of thoughts and he's able to put them.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Did you the episode he had with Benny Blanco where
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: they're like, did you watch that one? Yes?
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: From season two where they're like best friends and they're
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: hanging out all day. It's the most white people humor
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: shit of all time.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it is like.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: Doing so much was like.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: They really had to film that.
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, well so album hopefully you say July right,
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: the lot twenty first is the the that's the date,
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: that's the day. But you know how albums work, But
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: July twenty first, because I yeah, I got a hold
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: on a venue for New York another.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: So that's for that lot twenty first. That's an exclusive man.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: July twenty first, albums coming. We have an album title
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: that's kind of a placeholder.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Placeholder, that's one of them teetering on the edge of reality. Yes,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: that's it's you know, it's decent. I Lift Waits is
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: the next single. I lift Waits next single? Do you
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: lift Waits? No, it's cap. This is all cap cap.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I mean Waits. Waits is a metaphor for whatever you know.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Waits is not. No man, I just heard that sample
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: of I heard I've listened to one of those Uh
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: we're watching the micd up NFL and uh it was
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: it was they're saying hell of funny shit. But it
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: was Joe Hayden from the Steelers, and he's the way
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: he said that shit, I lift Waits.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: And he just cut you know, so she just cuts.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: Through in a way. And it was he's a cornerback, right,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: and he is a cornerback. And so we clipped that
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: just you know, just put that in the bank.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: And then do you have to give Joe Hayden any
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: pub Probably yeah, it's fair. We should probably cut this
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: because the NFL is gonna come for you. Bro.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: You think the NFL.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: Oh, the NFL is the worst. Okay, they're gonna want
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: their cut. It's probably an NFL films thing. Rh it's
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: probably NFL films.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, they don't play.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: You can't even say super Bowl out loud on the
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: radio during Super Bowl season. You have to say the
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: Big Game or they'll suit you.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: It's pretty crazy, fucking I'm ready to fight?
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: Are you a bearrass Man?
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: I don't really put too much steak in football like that.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Basketball. Basketball is where I put for some of my energy.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: Football is just yeah. So being from Chicago, you're spoiled
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: growing up. You have Michael Jordan, you got the house.
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: Then there's like the dark age where you get Art
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Test and Jamal Crawford and Eddie Curry and Tyson Chandler,
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: and then then there's the spike of Derreck Rose. Right now,
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: the team's just kind of like there's good players, good names.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: Solid, Yeah, purgatory a little bit.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: But it feels like there's just like no endgame. Right
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: So it's like, do you'd like root for players at
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: that point?
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Well, they the the Lonzo.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Because they had like last year, they had that run
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: where they were the one scene and they looked great.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: Caruso and yeah, yeah, so Lonzo was a big part
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: of that love stretching the floor and distributed.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: So got to get rid of Ucevic. Yeah, you'll see,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: you know, I don't.
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: And then I love Damar Damar. I feel like, if
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: you're going to pick between Damar and Levine, you gotta
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: send Levine off.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Man, he was making too much money, You'll see.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: Man. You root for players though, if the Bulls suck,
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: because I'm a Suns fan and we've sucked for so
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: long that I just started.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: I just root for Lebron. Right now we're good again,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: so I you know, it's root for good basketball, you know,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: just if I am watching the game, just some good
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: because now and even especially during the regular season, watching
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: water play out, but doing the regular season, the game
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: is the game after a while, and so now it's
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: it's more interesting to watch the podcasts of the players
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: and get the let me see what Draymond saying. Those
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: stories are just hearing, you know, play yeah, JJ Redick
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: breakdown or JJ's podcast is fine, or even you know,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: the thinking basketball, those breakdowns. So here, I'm enjoying that
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: that part of it, just hearing, you know, the stories
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: around it. I'm enjoying the playoffs though too. And it's
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: it's kind of is, well, I don't you can't really,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: I don't even I don't know who's gonna take it.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Nobody knows. Yeah, it's up in there, and that's very rare,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: usually very y.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: You'll be like it's the Warriors or the Warriors room
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: basketball for a long time, shout.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: Out to them. So it's you know, it's you know,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: sports man. People in his name enjoy it. It's wild
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: to think about July twenty first album, July twenty first
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: album as still so OB's Day, so OB's June fourteenth. Okay, yeah,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: put them up. Yeah, but ticket's gonna be seven dollars
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: and twenty one cents.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: We're gonna do it. Yeah, this album album, Yo, change
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: that album.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I know. Yeah, I'm gonna get it done at the
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: very least of epee. We shipping, we shipping, Yeah, we
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: shipping something I got, you know, but no, no, we're
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: gonna get it done. We're gonna get it done over
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: the next few weeks. Get the vocals done. It's in
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: a good it's in a good space. It's uh excited
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: to tour man and and and just get moving dog.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Thank you for having me is excited.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: I was like, hell, yeah, this is great. I'm like,
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: we gotta have hand man. Yeah yeah, I'm excited for
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: the for the music man. Thank you, appreciate you pulling
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: up brother. Yes, Sir Hanama burse
