- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites, the podcast from the Volume Podcast Network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Thursday. That means it's time to enter the Thursday Thunderdome.
- 0:23Speaker 1: On today's show, our special guests will compete alongside my
- 0:28Speaker 1: co host Might b f F my companion professional sports
- 0:32Speaker 1: better Simon Hunter, who was out with a lot of
- 0:34Speaker 1: us on Tuesday night and survived. He is in an
- 0:37Speaker 1: epic test of wagers and wits that's quickly made at
- 0:41Speaker 1: this show the best invention for summertime gamblers since the
- 0:45Speaker 1: Nathan's Hot Dog eating Contest. Oh, Simon, we gave each
- 0:51Speaker 1: other a really big hug on Tuesday night. I would say,
- 0:55Speaker 1: I got to this bar around seven. I think you
- 0:58Speaker 1: got there at eight. I had a date before and
- 1:00Speaker 1: so I wasn't really feeling it. And then you came
- 1:01Speaker 1: into the bar and you gave me a hug and
- 1:03Speaker 1: you wouldn't let go, and I go, Wow, Chad must
- 1:05Speaker 1: be feeling pretty pretty good right now. So I had
- 1:08Speaker 1: I had a couple of drinks with Stucky, heard a
- 1:10Speaker 1: lot of stories from Stucky, didn't get fired. I got
- 1:13Speaker 1: out of there. I knew when to leave, so I
- 1:16Speaker 1: got just to the point of drunkness where I was like,
- 1:18Speaker 1: I made some joke and it might have been a
- 1:20Speaker 1: man or maybe with Christina gave me this look and
- 1:22Speaker 1: I was just like, Okay, it's it's toime for me
- 1:25Speaker 1: to get out of here. So it was a It
- 1:28Speaker 1: was a good night, man. It was fun to be
- 1:29Speaker 1: in New York City. You've learned so much about being
- 1:32Speaker 1: a good corporate citizen since you joined the Action Network
- 1:34Speaker 1: full time. We're all really proud of you. Simon. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: should mention I'm still in New York. I'm recording this
- 1:39Speaker 1: podcast from my hotel room in New York. So if
- 1:42Speaker 1: I sound somewhat different, that is why. Simon, your first challenger,
- 1:47Speaker 1: is an ESPN analyst co host of the Pull Up
- 1:50Speaker 1: podcast with c J. McCullum. Recently appeared on our game
- 1:55Speaker 1: show What's the Line where he destroyed Damn Ravel. It's
- 2:00Speaker 1: NBA Analyst Extraordinaire Jordan Schultz. What's going on, many fellas,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I'm doing great. That was a fun night with Darren.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I don't know if he was embarrassed. He's definitely destroyed,
- 2:11Speaker 1: though it was fun. It's impossible to embarrass revalve. You
- 2:16Speaker 1: can mention or ask him to do something that no
- 2:19Speaker 1: one else in the world would consider, and he'd be like,
- 2:22Speaker 1: oh my god, this is terrible. I gotta do it.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So I got that zero zero humility. Thanks for having me.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We're glad you're here. Jordan's uh the other competitor today.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Way back in two thousands eighteen, on this very program,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I refer to this editor as the straw that stirs
- 2:44Speaker 1: the Action Network. I still believe it all these years later.
- 2:48Speaker 1: He's an avid darts better, one of Long Island's very finest,
- 2:51Speaker 1: a man whose love for the Advancing Islanders is only
- 2:56Speaker 1: surpassed by his love for misery. It's Michael lee Off.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I want you to say a lot of people, but
- 3:02Speaker 1: I want people to know that you spent the night
- 3:05Speaker 1: at the Colisseum and I spent the night I mean
- 3:08Speaker 1: maybe from before the game started until just this very
- 3:12Speaker 1: second leaveoff. How are you. I'm wonderful, I'm doing great.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I don't know how we're going to get through this
- 3:19Speaker 1: podcast with Leaboff sounding like he had to scrape his
- 3:23Speaker 1: voice off the ice. If you spent your night screaming
- 3:28Speaker 1: horrible things at Bruin's head coach Bruce Cassidy last night,
- 3:31Speaker 1: you would be you would sound the same, and I
- 3:33Speaker 1: offered you that opportunity like fifteen times to come to
- 3:36Speaker 1: the Cosum and you're you're afraid to go. It's not
- 3:39Speaker 1: an invite unless you say, here's my ticket, here's the time,
- 3:42Speaker 1: meet me at this place. That's that's how I live
- 3:45Speaker 1: in the invite world. You're like a thirty year sports
- 3:48Speaker 1: media executive. You can get your own ticket and we'll
- 3:51Speaker 1: just go before we'll meet up before the game. Right,
- 3:53Speaker 1: what is the meanest thing you said to Bruce Cassidy
- 3:55Speaker 1: last night? Oh my god, I don't want to say it.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You know, we just talked about being a good court
- 4:00Speaker 1: for citizens. That's true. Well, clearly because the Islanders are advancing,
- 4:04Speaker 1: we we got to scream it and coming off the
- 4:05Speaker 1: ice because obviously they do the handshakes at the end
- 4:07Speaker 1: of every series, and you know, the Colsium, you're just
- 4:09Speaker 1: like right on top of everybody and the whole amina
- 4:12Speaker 1: stuck around for that and he's walking off basically by himself.
- 4:15Speaker 1: All the players have basically shuffled in and he's just
- 4:17Speaker 1: he was just hearing it. It was he was an idiot,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Like why would you why would you poke? Poke? Twelve
- 4:22Speaker 1: thousand long Islanders hopped up on tall boys of natty
- 4:25Speaker 1: light like what what an idiot? So there's nothing he
- 4:28Speaker 1: got what was coming. Here's how the game is played today.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You'll answer two kinds of questions. First, traditional trivia questions
- 4:36Speaker 1: about sports, sports, betting, and the world at large. Second,
- 4:40Speaker 1: completely subjective and totally assinine, open and did questions or
- 4:44Speaker 1: prompts that I alone will judge. I will probably root
- 4:49Speaker 1: for Signa. To accumulate points, you must answer the trivia
- 4:52Speaker 1: questions correctly, and also convince me that your response to
- 4:56Speaker 1: those open ended prompts are better than the resp bonces
- 5:00Speaker 1: from your opponents. Let's play the game, folks. Part one.
- 5:04Speaker 1: The pen is mightier. Last week, former quarterback Johnny Manziel
- 5:10Speaker 1: revealed he pocketed over thirty thou dollars selling autographs in college.
- 5:15Speaker 1: The demand for celebrity autographs dates back nearly as far
- 5:19Speaker 1: as the pen itself. So I'll ask each of you
- 5:22Speaker 1: an autograph themed question. Sign Him. One of the rarest
- 5:27Speaker 1: athlete autographs of all time is from this baseball player,
- 5:31Speaker 1: who grew up illiterate following a childhood of labor in
- 5:35Speaker 1: South Carolina textile mills. As an adult, his wife signed
- 5:40Speaker 1: most things on his behalf. So fewer than two dozen
- 5:43Speaker 1: authentic autographs are known to exist. This is a crazy story.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't even know this today. He's perhaps most famous
- 5:49Speaker 1: for his permanent band for baseball following his alleged but
- 5:52Speaker 1: never confirmed involvement in the black Socks scandal despite stellar
- 5:58Speaker 1: play throughout that crook in World Series? Who is the
- 6:01Speaker 1: player we are referring to? I have no idea, but
- 6:04Speaker 1: I want to update your thing about athletes signatures. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: oldest signature is actually gladiators. People in the room used
- 6:10Speaker 1: to get signatures from gladiators, So just a quick update.
- 6:12Speaker 1: They've been around for about I think two thousand years
- 6:15Speaker 1: now signatures for athletes, so it's pretty insane. Well that
- 6:19Speaker 1: is fantastic, But again I don't think you answer to
- 6:25Speaker 1: the question Joe DiMaggio so close shoe was Joe Jackson.
- 6:31Speaker 1: They got the first name, right, Uh, leaveoff. The autographs
- 6:34Speaker 1: of American presidents have been popular for centuries. The two
- 6:38Speaker 1: rarest presidential autographs belonged to William Henry Harrison, who died
- 6:43Speaker 1: of pneumonia thirty days after his inauguration, and this president
- 6:46Speaker 1: who shot four months into his presidency and died two
- 6:50Speaker 1: months later, the idealistic James Garfield. Wow, that is incredible
- 6:58Speaker 1: that you got that right in your condition to get
- 7:00Speaker 1: that right and coming coming with an adjective, by the way,
- 7:04Speaker 1: makes total sense that James Garfield would be your favorite president.
- 7:09Speaker 1: In the late FBI executed a successful sting on a
- 7:14Speaker 1: counterfeit sports memorabilia ring in Chicago in an effort code
- 7:18Speaker 1: named Operation foul Ball. The success of Operation foul Ball
- 7:21Speaker 1: led the FBI to execute a subsequent nationwide undercover operation
- 7:26Speaker 1: that sees millions of dollars worth of phony autographed merchandise,
- 7:30Speaker 1: including a baseball featuring a fake autograph from mother to rasta.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Based on its origins and Operation foul Ball, the FBI
- 7:39Speaker 1: operation was given this code name after the most famous
- 7:44Speaker 1: warm up area in sports. So this was operation that
- 7:52Speaker 1: is correct, batter box. That was tough. Uh, Simon, you
- 7:57Speaker 1: would have been wrong in everything. You're getting killed the
- 7:59Speaker 1: rest I'm drunk chat. You might still be drunk from Tuesday.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Here's the prompt. This is Simon, where you normally make
- 8:06Speaker 1: up your time. If you could acquire any piece of
- 8:08Speaker 1: memorabilia and make any living athletes sign it, what would
- 8:12Speaker 1: you choose and who would sign it. For example, I'd
- 8:15Speaker 1: like to own the card Roger Goodell read from to
- 8:19Speaker 1: announce the second pick in the two thousand seventeen NFL Draft,
- 8:23Speaker 1: signed by Mitchell Drubisky. Simon, please give me your answer.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean so many ways to go um, but as
- 8:31Speaker 1: in I guess as a filed off your sports fan,
- 8:33Speaker 1: my happiest experience of my life was the Eagle Super Bowl.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So I thought of something kind of messed up, but
- 8:39Speaker 1: it pulls all together. I would get the cast from
- 8:42Speaker 1: Carson Wentz is a c L tear, and I'd have
- 8:45Speaker 1: Nick Foles sign it. Oh my god, that is such
- 8:48Speaker 1: a good idea. It's serendipity. It's just like all these
- 8:51Speaker 1: things happened because of that injury. So it's it's one
- 8:54Speaker 1: of those I feel like it's two things that would
- 8:56Speaker 1: mean a lot to me is Nick Fole's signature and
- 8:58Speaker 1: that Carson Wentz injury. I so love that answer. Leadoff.
- 9:02Speaker 1: It's gonna be tough to top that answer. Yeah, that's
- 9:05Speaker 1: a good one. But I know you guys know my
- 9:07Speaker 1: love for the Islanders, and so this is niche, niche
- 9:11Speaker 1: for for probably most of the listeners. But when when
- 9:13Speaker 1: John Tavares left the Islanders, he took a picture and
- 9:17Speaker 1: posted it on Twitter of him in his pajamas. He
- 9:20Speaker 1: didn't say anything about like, oh, I had a great
- 9:22Speaker 1: time on Long Island. Yet the first thing he did
- 9:24Speaker 1: was just just tweeted a picture of himself in his
- 9:28Speaker 1: maple leaves bedsheets and pajamas and said, like, it's not
- 9:31Speaker 1: every day you don't you get to live out a
- 9:33Speaker 1: childhood dream. Since then, John Tavares is one exactly zero
- 9:36Speaker 1: playoff series and the Islanders are going to the Conference
- 9:40Speaker 1: finals for the second year or else. So I would
- 9:42Speaker 1: like to get that that picture and its original frame,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and I would love to get it signed by all
- 9:48Speaker 1: the New York Islanders and then mail it to him. Wow.
- 9:51Speaker 1: That wraps up fandom and bitterness and is the greatest
- 9:56Speaker 1: Leeboff answer. I love the directions are going. There so
- 10:00Speaker 1: much rage in this fandom Jordan's are you full of
- 10:03Speaker 1: rage today? Not quite? But in so mine Mine is
- 10:07Speaker 1: also a little niche growing up in Seattle and I
- 10:11Speaker 1: was a massive Mariner fan and Ken Griffy Jr. Was God.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I was at the game when he broke his wrist
- 10:19Speaker 1: against the Rangers. You know, he had that famous spider
- 10:22Speaker 1: man catch against center field wall. I was at that game,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and I want to say that happened in the seventh
- 10:28Speaker 1: inning and the fourth inning he caught the third out
- 10:31Speaker 1: and tossed me a ball. And when he broke his
- 10:33Speaker 1: wrist the next day of the Seattle Times, I was
- 10:36Speaker 1: a really young kid. There's like a picture of me
- 10:39Speaker 1: in the background like hysterical, like I'm crying or I'm
- 10:42Speaker 1: really scared, and you know, Ken Griffy's hobbling off the field.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So what I would want being at that game is
- 10:49Speaker 1: for him to sign that glove that he broke the
- 10:52Speaker 1: wrist in because that was probably to me, it's the
- 10:55Speaker 1: greatest catch I've ever seen, at least in person. In Seattle,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he was everything he really he was. Obviously, you guys
- 11:01Speaker 1: remember the video game. So I was gonna say, n
- 11:03Speaker 1: sixty four that was the game change. Yeah, you can
- 11:06Speaker 1: imagine in Seattle we played well, originally it was for Superintendo.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Right in sixty four took it to an r level.
- 11:13Speaker 1: We used to play that game for hours in the
- 11:15Speaker 1: in the in the caveat was nobody was allowed to
- 11:17Speaker 1: be the Mariners, Yeah, because they had the griff he
- 11:20Speaker 1: had like his swing zone was like this big. So anyways,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I missed, uh, I missed those days. Well, listen, that's
- 11:28Speaker 1: a really sad story. It's even Saturday. Because you're not
- 11:31Speaker 1: gonna win leadoff. I have to give it to you
- 11:33Speaker 1: because ay, you can barely speak b because I know
- 11:37Speaker 1: your hatred for John Tava's ghosts run so deep. We've
- 11:40Speaker 1: talked about it for years, and the fact that you
- 11:42Speaker 1: can tie it to the Islanders moving on in the playoffs.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Last night, I feel like you win that round. So congratulations.
- 11:50Speaker 1: We will move on to Part two. Uh. Part two
- 11:53Speaker 1: ejectionable material is major League Baseball's All Star Game approaches
- 11:57Speaker 1: next month. We'd like to take a moment to appreciate
- 12:00Speaker 1: one of the most beautiful spectacles in American sports, the
- 12:03Speaker 1: objection of a baseball manager. As here comes to my
- 12:06Speaker 1: eye whenever I see a pristine baseball diamond and I
- 12:10Speaker 1: see an old man wearing a full baseball uniform screaming
- 12:13Speaker 1: himself horse at another man wearing a blazer. In honor
- 12:17Speaker 1: of this time honored tradition of workplace rage, I'll ask
- 12:22Speaker 1: each of you one question about baseball manager objections. Jordan,
- 12:28Speaker 1: this will be rid of your alley a long time
- 12:31Speaker 1: Jordan's longtime manager, Lou Pinella, is on the Mount Rushmore
- 12:35Speaker 1: of objections. One of his signature episodes came in when
- 12:39Speaker 1: he became so enraged during a shouting match with an
- 12:42Speaker 1: umpire that he threw this object a full thirty five ft.
- 12:46Speaker 1: The distance was so impressive that a newspaper held a
- 12:49Speaker 1: fan contest to see if anyone could match his distance.
- 12:54Speaker 1: What did he throw? A base? It was first base.
- 12:58Speaker 1: But I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna you full credit
- 13:00Speaker 1: because he took it. He took it off. He did
- 13:02Speaker 1: take it off exactly, uh Simon. Arguably the most unique
- 13:07Speaker 1: and celebrated ejection in major league history came exactly twenty
- 13:10Speaker 1: two years ago yesterday, when this National League manager was
- 13:14Speaker 1: ejected in extra innings, only to return to the dugout
- 13:18Speaker 1: a short time later wearing glasses and a fake mustache.
- 13:22Speaker 1: The sky is, in my opinion, one of the creepiest
- 13:24Speaker 1: people to ever grace the sported baseball is a Bobby Valentino.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Wherever his name is Bobby v. Bobby Valentine, you win
- 13:32Speaker 1: for calling him creepy. Your spot on and you know
- 13:35Speaker 1: who he is clearly leadoff the record for most of
- 13:38Speaker 1: Jacksons belongs to this longtime Braves manager who was tossed
- 13:43Speaker 1: out of a hundred and sixty one games, one game
- 13:45Speaker 1: shy of a full major league season. I know the answer.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I think it's Bobby Cox. And speaking of Bobby Valentine,
- 13:53Speaker 1: he's the athletic director at my alma mater now and
- 13:56Speaker 1: I sat out a panel with him once and I
- 13:58Speaker 1: got to disagree. I went with that. In my head.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I was like, this guy is a weirdo. I don't
- 14:02Speaker 1: really like him, and he's sitting next to me and
- 14:05Speaker 1: he couldn't have been more of a sweetheart, um simon.
- 14:08Speaker 1: So that's how it gets that. That's how it gets
- 14:10Speaker 1: you in. Maybe he was playing the long game, but
- 14:14Speaker 1: I didn't join my time with him. All right, Part
- 14:16Speaker 1: two prompt Here we go. Imagine you are a furious
- 14:20Speaker 1: major league baseball manager. You were about to be ejected
- 14:23Speaker 1: for arguing with an umpire. If your goal was to
- 14:25Speaker 1: create the most memorable on field ejection of all time,
- 14:29Speaker 1: what would you do? We bought, what would you do?
- 14:34Speaker 1: I'd probably mooned the umpire, you moon the empire. You've
- 14:38Speaker 1: done so well in this game so far, and that
- 14:40Speaker 1: is a terrible answer. So I went back to Lloyd McClendon.
- 14:45Speaker 1: He had a great one back with the Pirates. I'd
- 14:47Speaker 1: like to mirror that. Basically, I want to take a
- 14:49Speaker 1: step further. I want to take panelas step further. I
- 14:52Speaker 1: want to take off first base. But now I don't
- 14:55Speaker 1: want to throw it. I want to run around the
- 14:57Speaker 1: stadium with it and then throw it into the stands.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I gotta say, that's funny, and I can see I
- 15:02Speaker 1: thought you're gonna say, I want to run around the
- 15:04Speaker 1: basis with it, and when you get well, maybe I'll
- 15:06Speaker 1: do that around on the basis and then I'll run
- 15:08Speaker 1: an outfield and throw it into the stands. So the
- 15:10Speaker 1: game is screwed up. I think that's a great answer
- 15:13Speaker 1: making a comeback here definitely better than leadoff on this one, Simon,
- 15:17Speaker 1: let's see what you got again. This is fictional. Uh.
- 15:20Speaker 1: It made me think of the office and Andy. He
- 15:22Speaker 1: was trying to quit his job and get fired. He
- 15:23Speaker 1: could not get fired, and he couldn't. He just couldn't leave,
- 15:26Speaker 1: so he took a dump on his boss's car. And
- 15:29Speaker 1: that's what I would go. I would just go right
- 15:30Speaker 1: out to the home plate and I would just drop
- 15:32Speaker 1: try and take a dump in the middle of the field.
- 15:35Speaker 1: That's terrible, exactly. It's disgusting to even visualize that. At
- 15:41Speaker 1: least with Jordan's he's having a little bit of fun,
- 15:43Speaker 1: he's getting the fans involved. He's going for broke like
- 15:46Speaker 1: he knows, he knows he's going to be thrown out.
- 15:49Speaker 1: He's just deciding basically to do a victory lap because
- 15:53Speaker 1: he's doing it on behalf of the team, Like this
- 15:56Speaker 1: is Jordan's no brain er. Simon, I'm talking us a
- 16:00Speaker 1: memorable ejection of all time. Chat, I'm taking a dump
- 16:03Speaker 1: in the on the field of baseball. Bro You're just
- 16:06Speaker 1: too classy. You're you're too classy. I'm tempted to take
- 16:09Speaker 1: away a point because I hate that answer so much.
- 16:12Speaker 1: But here we go. Here's the score right now. Leave Off,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you have three because of your James Garfield fandom. Jordan's
- 16:18Speaker 1: you have three because of your genius for how you
- 16:20Speaker 1: would get ejected from the game. Simon, you have one,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and I'm not even that sad about it, because now
- 16:25Speaker 1: I'm just disgusted. Part three. Let's travel back in time.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Last week, Lebron James and the l A Lakers were
- 16:43Speaker 1: bounced from the NBA Playoffs in the first round, and
- 16:46Speaker 1: many are considering this to be his most disappointing finish
- 16:50Speaker 1: since he was twenty one years old and his Cavalier's
- 16:53Speaker 1: team missed the two thousand five class. Even back in
- 16:55Speaker 1: two thousand five, I was already successful and accomplished member
- 17:00Speaker 1: of the sports media elite. Our guest Jordan Schultz would
- 17:05Speaker 1: to be on his way to Accidental College, and I
- 17:08Speaker 1: assume our own Simon Hunter was just your typical perverted
- 17:11Speaker 1: fifteen year old who thought about taking dumps in center field.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But in honor of Lebron's dubious distinction, I will now
- 17:18Speaker 1: ask you each one pop culture question and one sports
- 17:23Speaker 1: question about two thousand five. Oh, this is good Jordan's
- 17:28Speaker 1: In the spring of two thousand five, following an n
- 17:30Speaker 1: c a A title at Yukon and a great rookie
- 17:33Speaker 1: season for the Charlotte Bobcats, this player one NBA rtographer boom,
- 17:40Speaker 1: Very nicely done. Remember Toy Howard went one, and there
- 17:44Speaker 1: is there was some thought that a Mecca should have
- 17:46Speaker 1: gone one. Remember that, I remember that well. In a
- 17:50Speaker 1: few thousand five, this finish Telecom company was the leading
- 17:55Speaker 1: manufacturer of cell phones. They also sponsored college football's Sugar
- 17:59Speaker 1: Bowl from nine Nice Jordan's a game Leaboff back. In
- 18:07Speaker 1: two thousand five, Nikes sold more than fifty million units
- 18:11Speaker 1: of this ubiquitous yellow fashion accessory. A few years later,
- 18:17Speaker 1: this inspirational figure behind this suffered a humiliating fall from
- 18:22Speaker 1: grace and was stripped of all his primary athlete accomplishments livestrong, bracelet.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Well done, Mike Leeboff, here's your second question. In two
- 18:33Speaker 1: thousand five, Lebron couldn't tweet about how missing the playoffs felt.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Twitter wasn't invented until the following year, and even if
- 18:40Speaker 1: he'd wanted to, this exciting new social media platform was
- 18:43Speaker 1: also unavailable because he didn't have a college email address Facebook. Wow.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Our contestants today, except for Simon, are really good. Simon.
- 18:56Speaker 1: For the two thousand five NFL season, this imposing a
- 18:59Speaker 1: f C North quarterback one Rookie of the Year, Big
- 19:04Speaker 1: Ben Ben You got it, buddy, Here we go. I
- 19:08Speaker 1: know you love rap and hip hop, Simon. In the
- 19:11Speaker 1: spring of two thousand five, Candy Shop was the number
- 19:14Speaker 1: one song in America, a track performed by this famous
- 19:18Speaker 1: rapper Bitty sent Cent. There you go, Everybody good round
- 19:25Speaker 1: for everybody. Very impressive, Matt Mitchell, I think you found
- 19:28Speaker 1: the wheelhouse for the majority of our contestants. Part three.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Here's the prompt. Imagine traveling back in time to two
- 19:35Speaker 1: thou five. You find your two thousand five self and
- 19:38Speaker 1: you tell him the single craziest thing about the world
- 19:41Speaker 1: of sports in a k a. The distant future. What
- 19:46Speaker 1: is your message from the future. So at that point
- 19:50Speaker 1: in my life, the Islanders, I've never seen the Islanders
- 19:52Speaker 1: win a playoff series. And my friend and I Eric,
- 19:55Speaker 1: who who's gone through all the same lowses as I have.
- 20:00Speaker 1: We were actually having this conversation last night. I'm the
- 20:02Speaker 1: Colosseum concrete right outside the Colosseum, and and we both
- 20:05Speaker 1: said that if we did exactly this exercise or fifteen
- 20:09Speaker 1: year old selves would just beat the ever living ship
- 20:11Speaker 1: out of our now selves because they just wouldn't believe it,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and they'd be mad that they had to wait this
- 20:16Speaker 1: long for for happiness anyways, so that would probably be right,
- 20:20Speaker 1: Like I'd be like you, you just eliminated the Buston
- 20:22Speaker 1: Bruins and the series that nobody thought you had a chance,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and he did in six games, and you made a
- 20:27Speaker 1: villain out of out of a head coach, So I
- 20:29Speaker 1: think that would probably be it. Yeah, it's very weird
- 20:31Speaker 1: that that is the question, because I literally had this
- 20:33Speaker 1: exercise last night with a friend while we were weeping.
- 20:38Speaker 1: If you hadn't added while we were weeping, I'd probably
- 20:41Speaker 1: think that feels small. Jordan's your next Well, I think
- 20:44Speaker 1: it's fitting that this is my answer. I would say,
- 20:47Speaker 1: fast forward to and you'd be able to uh wold,
- 20:52Speaker 1: why bet hit arena? I think I would say, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 1: sports gambling is it's not just a part of of
- 21:00Speaker 1: the Fabrica society now, it's it's celebrated and we had
- 21:03Speaker 1: the actions that work as a big reason why. That
- 21:06Speaker 1: is an amazing answer. I didn't even consider that as
- 21:10Speaker 1: being something that I would say to someone from two
- 21:13Speaker 1: thousand five. I like it. I like it a lot.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Simon where you got Jordan, you don't know the right people. Man.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Back in the Beeper's day, you can still have been
- 21:20Speaker 1: any sports arena you want it though. Back in the day,
- 21:23Speaker 1: um I must have been Yeah, you're a good kid. Probably.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I feel like it'd be so weird going back and
- 21:29Speaker 1: just talking to yourself and being like Tom Brady when
- 21:31Speaker 1: he's in his forties, is going to leave the FC
- 21:34Speaker 1: and go to the NFC and have just as many
- 21:36Speaker 1: Super Bowl rings is every other quarterback in the last
- 21:39Speaker 1: fifteen years in the NFC. Like the man literally in
- 21:42Speaker 1: his forties is still the best quarterbacks. So I feel
- 21:45Speaker 1: like if someone came to you an oh five and
- 21:47Speaker 1: told you that, you just couldn't wrap your head around
- 21:49Speaker 1: it because we've just never seen anything like it before.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So I do think it would be definitely be the
- 21:53Speaker 1: Tom Brady. I say, you're totally right. I was gonna
- 21:57Speaker 1: go with Jordan's because it is is amazing to think,
- 22:01Speaker 1: you know, sixteen years after two thousand five, where betting
- 22:05Speaker 1: was such a third rail for so many people. Um,
- 22:11Speaker 1: you're you're able to say, oh yeah, now you can
- 22:13Speaker 1: go bet in arenas. But but Tom Brady defying age
- 22:17Speaker 1: and winning Super Bowls into the decade of the twenties
- 22:21Speaker 1: after winning his first early in the two thousand's is ridiculous.
- 22:25Speaker 1: That is something that is that is unparalleled. And nobody
- 22:28Speaker 1: would have believed to that point either about Drew Brees
- 22:31Speaker 1: because remember he had it, yeah, all their surgery. Yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: nobody would believe that he's you would have said, you
- 22:37Speaker 1: know five, Drew Brees is gonna become one of the
- 22:40Speaker 1: best five quarterbacks of all time. I don't think that's
- 22:43Speaker 1: very good. All right, we are going into part four.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Jordan's kind of played himself out of a point in
- 22:49Speaker 1: the final question for part three. Right now, the current
- 22:53Speaker 1: score leave off? You have five, Jordan, you have five, Simon,
- 22:56Speaker 1: you have four. Good comeback in the latter half of
- 23:01Speaker 1: the game. Here is the topic for the grand finale,
- 23:05Speaker 1: the breakout Star of two thousand five. First, before I
- 23:10Speaker 1: read the question, you all need to indicate how much
- 23:13Speaker 1: you would like to risk. Close your eyes, hold up
- 23:17Speaker 1: your fingers with your wager amount. All right, here we go.
- 23:21Speaker 1: In two thousand five, a new recording artist burst onto
- 23:24Speaker 1: the scene and has since gone on to a decorated
- 23:27Speaker 1: and successful career, including seven Grammy wins. She's also enjoyed
- 23:32Speaker 1: considerable involvement in the world of sports. She dated Tony Romo,
- 23:37Speaker 1: married an Ottawa Senators hockey player, and she performs the
- 23:41Speaker 1: opening theme for the highest rated prime time show ten
- 23:45Speaker 1: years running. Please name this recording artists? All right, Jordan's
- 24:12Speaker 1: please tell me how much you risk? And the answer
- 24:16Speaker 1: risk five damn all right, Jordan's got ten leave off.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Tell me how much you risk? Give me your answer.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I risk five, And I said, Carrie Underwood, Oh my goodness,
- 24:30Speaker 1: we are guaranteed a playoffs. Simon, tell me how much
- 24:33Speaker 1: you risk in your answer? I risk it all, but
- 24:35Speaker 1: I had less points to them. I said, carry Underwood
- 24:37Speaker 1: as well. Oh my god, now you're out. But listen,
- 24:41Speaker 1: this was our most competitive game yet. Everybody played strong.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So now we have to go to our playoff sudden death.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Are you guys ready? Yeah, let's do it all right.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Here we go. Home court for the Philadelphia seventies Sis
- 24:58Speaker 1: is the Wells Fargo Center. Home ice for the New
- 25:01Speaker 1: Jersey Devils is the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
- 25:05Speaker 1: According to goal Maps, if you were to travel on
- 25:07Speaker 1: foot from one to the other, how many hours would
- 25:11Speaker 1: it take you. Jordan's on on foot from the Prudential
- 25:18Speaker 1: Center in Newark to the Wells Fargo Sernilly. I guess
- 25:23Speaker 1: eight hours, eighteen hours. Mike Lee, I was doing. I
- 25:27Speaker 1: was seeing if I could do the math in my head,
- 25:28Speaker 1: knowing having having done the drive from Jersey to Philly
- 25:31Speaker 1: many many times, thinking how many miles, how was a
- 25:34Speaker 1: mile blah blah blah blah blah. What do you got?
- 25:36Speaker 1: I'd say two hours and I think it's gonna Matt Mitchell,
- 25:44Speaker 1: the correct answer is twenty eight hours. I knew it,
- 25:48Speaker 1: shit man. As soon as I said that, I was like,
- 25:53Speaker 1: if not. Also, you got in front of a juggernaut.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And what I mean by that is nobody, everybody. There's
- 26:01Speaker 1: nothing that can stop Leeboff right now. This is when
- 26:04Speaker 1: you start betting on the Islanders with the Stanley Cup.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Because he is on such a role. I cannot, I
- 26:11Speaker 1: cannot think that things are not going to go his way.
- 26:13Speaker 1: That's what I believe. For Jordan, you played outstanding. Siman,
- 26:26Speaker 1: you did pretty well too. Congratulations to Mike Leboff for
- 26:29Speaker 1: his winning ways, fighting through a strained voice after single
- 26:34Speaker 1: handedly carrying the New York Islanders to win, right Simon Gladiator.
