- 0:00Speaker 1: We're rolling. Thank you, Mitch. All right, we have an
- 0:03Speaker 1: emergency podcast, so K, if you don't mind, I'm gonna
- 0:07Speaker 1: lay the groundwork for what happened yesterday, if that's okay. Yeah, absolutely,
- 0:10Speaker 1: So yesterday our Tyler Hubbard podcast came out and uh,
- 0:14Speaker 1: your wife reached out to my wife and asked for
- 0:16Speaker 1: her phone number for my phone number. Yeah, you within
- 0:19Speaker 1: I don't know ninety seconds of that phone number being
- 0:22Speaker 1: received by your wife. I had my phone was ringing.
- 0:25Speaker 1: BK gets on the phone, He's like, listen, well, my
- 0:28Speaker 1: hertsepound right now. Kind of like re saying it all
- 0:31Speaker 1: because when you we as want to say, hey, man,
- 0:32Speaker 1: how's it going, with a lot of compliments like hey,
- 0:36Speaker 1: love your show, love you guys, and I know something's coming,
- 0:39Speaker 1: like the way you're kind of building me up. I
- 0:41Speaker 1: knew something was was headed my way. Shit sandwich, this
- 0:44Speaker 1: shit sandwich, right, something positive positive, negative positive, and you
- 0:47Speaker 1: kind of get lost in the meat. So you called.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Obviously there were things about that podcast that you didn't
- 0:53Speaker 1: believe to be the truth, and that you said You've
- 0:56Speaker 1: been quiet for a long time and you love the
- 0:58Speaker 1: opportunity to say your side of the which is that's
- 1:00Speaker 1: what Bustling with the Boys is all about. Yeah, you
- 1:02Speaker 1: also said on that podcast that I said some things
- 1:04Speaker 1: about you that were disrespectful to me. I immediately once
- 1:08Speaker 1: we hung up the phone, first say it was called Well,
- 1:10Speaker 1: second thing I did. He'll get on the YouTube and
- 1:12Speaker 1: start watching that clip and the clip that you refer to,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and Mitch, I hope you play that back.
- 1:16Speaker 2: What happened beyond the way with you and BK? That's
- 1:19Speaker 2: like to where Florida Georgia line can't be forever?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah, a good question. I mean, for me, it was
- 1:24Speaker 3: really unexpected. But BK came to me and said, man,
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'm really feeling like I want to do a solo thing.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And I'm like really, I'm like, we were just getting
- 1:31Speaker 3: out of our first deal. We were kind of in
- 1:32Speaker 3: a sweet spot that we had worked for ten years
- 1:34Speaker 3: to get to, and I'm like, bro, like, why don't
- 1:36Speaker 3: we just ride this thing out for like five more years,
- 1:38Speaker 3: ten more years and then we can do the solo
- 1:40Speaker 3: thing or whatever. But again, like I wanted to support him,
- 1:43Speaker 3: he was adamant like now now's my time. I really
- 1:46Speaker 3: need to do this for myself. And I'm like, well, hey,
- 1:48Speaker 3: whatever you need to do, Bro, Like, what do you
- 1:50Speaker 3: want from me? He's like, I just want support. So
- 1:52Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, you got it, Bro, Like we've
- 1:54Speaker 3: had an incredible ride. This is where it's going to go. Like,
- 1:57Speaker 3: let's do it, and you prush it and you never know,
- 1:59Speaker 3: maybe it'll bring us back together and we can have
- 2:01Speaker 3: a reunion tour or whatever. But it was he definitely
- 2:04Speaker 3: initiated the whole thing from the beginning, and it kind
- 2:06Speaker 3: of when I say, caught me off guard. It wasn't
- 2:08Speaker 3: that we had never mentioned it before. It's just one
- 2:10Speaker 3: of those things where I didn't think then. I didn't
- 2:11Speaker 3: think it was gonna happen then. You know what I
- 2:13Speaker 3: mean is we're.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Talking about the breakup and if I see what you
- 2:18Speaker 1: see when you're looking at through the lens of what
- 2:20Speaker 1: your main storyline here is with you and Tyler. But
- 2:23Speaker 1: when I'm talking to Will about if Will did this,
- 2:26Speaker 1: if I did this to Will, Will would probably be
- 2:29Speaker 1: like you piece of shit. I was I'm the burger guy,
- 2:31Speaker 1: You're just a toppings guy, which from the storyline, because
- 2:35Speaker 1: I'm putting myself in a headspace of Will andized relationship,
- 2:37Speaker 1: not yours. In Tyler's I'm putting myself in a headspace
- 2:40Speaker 1: of how much Will does for the bus in the
- 2:42Speaker 1: back end as opposed to how much I do, and
- 2:45Speaker 1: all of that kind of the ins and outs of
- 2:46Speaker 1: how willanized relationship works. And I'm kind of just trying
- 2:49Speaker 1: to make a humor out of a situation that's uncomfortable
- 2:51Speaker 1: for everybody to see on a bus. So with that,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I want you to know that Busting with the Boys
- 2:55Speaker 1: is not here to ever attack you or attack anybody
- 2:58Speaker 1: my opinions. Will's opinion is never going to be made
- 3:00Speaker 1: by what other people say about People's gonna be out
- 3:03Speaker 1: the interactions that we have with people. That's going to
- 3:05Speaker 1: dictate how we feel about them. So as long as
- 3:07Speaker 1: you feel good about that, brother, we can get right
- 3:08Speaker 1: into it.
- 3:09Speaker 4: No, I appreciate it. And thanks for thanks for answering
- 3:11Speaker 4: the call and getting me on here. Man, I've been
- 3:14Speaker 4: wanting to get on here for years. And uh, you know,
- 3:18Speaker 4: great to be able to clarify some things, and and
- 3:21Speaker 4: also you know, I got an album coming out in
- 3:23Speaker 4: two days, so great timing.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Forget the Kendrick Lamar and Drake Beef.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Some f g L and we had to get these
- 3:31Speaker 1: some Southern beef going off country beef. Man, Uh, where
- 3:35Speaker 1: do you want to start?
- 3:38Speaker 4: I mean, how do y'all want to start it? Like,
- 3:41Speaker 4: I'm open minded to be I didn't really come with
- 3:46Speaker 4: an agenda, you know, I just I wanted to be
- 3:49Speaker 4: able to have an open conversation, and you know, I
- 3:52Speaker 4: guess I could start it off, but you know I
- 3:53Speaker 4: had multiple you know, friends and family and fans kind
- 3:56Speaker 4: of reach out and pass you know, some clips over
- 3:59Speaker 4: and then the episode and you know, really at the
- 4:02Speaker 4: end of the day, you know, for the fans sake,
- 4:06Speaker 4: the ones that have paid money to you know, see
- 4:09Speaker 4: Tyler and I and support us over the years, hard
- 4:10Speaker 4: earned money for concert tickets, CDs, vinyl records, merch you know,
- 4:16Speaker 4: my family, my mom and dad are family friends. You know.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I think it's important to you know, shed some light
- 4:24Speaker 4: on you know, my experience and what it was like
- 4:29Speaker 4: going through that for me and not just one side
- 4:31Speaker 4: of the story. And so I appreciate the outlet to
- 4:35Speaker 4: be able to come here in a place where I'm
- 4:38Speaker 4: fans of y'all. Like again, I watch y'all some of
- 4:40Speaker 4: the jelly roll earnest things or something. I haven't laughed
- 4:43Speaker 4: that hard in a long time man, like I really
- 4:45Speaker 4: enjoyed the show. So I was a little taken back
- 4:47Speaker 4: yesterday just on some of the things. And I hear
- 4:49Speaker 4: after talking to you, what you're saying. But you know,
- 4:55Speaker 4: I would love to give some light on just kind
- 4:58Speaker 4: of the scenario, on kind of how some of that
- 5:01Speaker 4: went down. And I wouldn't even call it a beef thing.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I don't think this is really a beef situation, but
- 5:08Speaker 4: I do. I do think it's important to speak my
- 5:10Speaker 4: truth and to you know, at the same time, stand
- 5:12Speaker 4: up for myself, you know, because it's not just him
- 5:15Speaker 4: that was FGL. You know, there's two of us, and
- 5:17Speaker 4: that's that's what made it so special. So to kind
- 5:20Speaker 4: of start, you guys are.
- 5:21Speaker 2: On the top too, and so when this is all
- 5:23Speaker 2: unfolding and you're kind of just hearing through the grapevine
- 5:25Speaker 2: that oh there's something going on, like there's not. I
- 5:29Speaker 2: don't think FGL they're gonna they're gonna be a band
- 5:31Speaker 2: or a crew anymore. And then you guys go to
- 5:33Speaker 2: the solo route. I do feel like everybody's curious on
- 5:36Speaker 2: what happens. So when we have Tyler on, like me,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I only know I know Tyler through Taylor. So when
- 5:41Speaker 2: we're sitting here listening to Tyler and referring to that
- 5:43Speaker 2: clip and everything else, like I'm just taking whatever is
- 5:45Speaker 2: being said. It's like he's the only one that I'm
- 5:47Speaker 2: hearing from.
- 5:48Speaker 4: No, I totally get it. I totally get that. I'm
- 5:50Speaker 4: I'm understanding of that, you know, to kind of start, uh,
- 5:55Speaker 4: you know, when we kind of referencing, you know, how
- 5:58Speaker 4: we got to you know, I heard b K and
- 6:01Speaker 4: my name kind of thrown out quite a bit, and
- 6:04Speaker 4: just to give some clarity, you know, back to you know,
- 6:06Speaker 4: b K wanted a solo career to clarify that. You know,
- 6:12Speaker 4: I'm a songwriter. You know, I moved to Nashville to
- 6:14Speaker 4: write songs. We ended up in a duo and I'm
- 6:16Speaker 4: forever grateful for what we were able to do. Man,
- 6:18Speaker 4: we had magic, amazing fans, We went on a hell
- 6:21Speaker 4: of a ride. I'm forever grateful for that, and just
- 6:25Speaker 4: what a time.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:26Speaker 4: So we've had that, We've had the conversation of having
- 6:32Speaker 4: extra outlets since twenty sixteen and then every every two
- 6:36Speaker 4: years after that, meaning you know I had voice that
- 6:41Speaker 4: you know, I want to obviously keep doing FGL. But
- 6:44Speaker 4: for me, you know, in my off time, when songwriters
- 6:47Speaker 4: creatives are alone, you find even more of yourself and
- 6:51Speaker 4: there's gonna be songs over the years that just being
- 6:54Speaker 4: a songwriter, you know, I'm gonna write that aren't gonna
- 6:56Speaker 4: fit the brand of FGL right, And so it was
- 7:00Speaker 4: important for me to you know, continue to honor my craft,
- 7:03Speaker 4: my my artistry, my songwriting, and so you know, I
- 7:07Speaker 4: had voice that for a long time. And you know,
- 7:09Speaker 4: we kind of made a deal, you know where once
- 7:11Speaker 4: our fifth record is done, our terms up. You know,
- 7:14Speaker 4: we're gonna create more freedom for ourselves. We're gonna keep
- 7:16Speaker 4: FGL going, We're gonna you know, put out some solo stuff.
- 7:21Speaker 4: So it wasn't a surprise because the marker was was
- 7:25Speaker 4: in place of once our deal came up. And I
- 7:28Speaker 4: want you guys to know, and I want the fans
- 7:30Speaker 4: to know. You know, we were trailblazers and I was
- 7:33Speaker 4: a part of that. You know, I had an idea
- 7:37Speaker 4: that when our deal came up, you know, we could
- 7:41Speaker 4: Tyler would get a solo deal under the same label.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I would get a record deal, and then we would
- 7:46Speaker 4: renegotiate a new record deal and something you know, I've
- 7:49Speaker 4: talked to many industry you know, record label heads, and
- 7:54Speaker 4: they talk about this ten year transformation. And we had,
- 7:57Speaker 4: you know, a solid ten years of commercial success. And
- 8:00Speaker 4: you know, how do you go from where we were
- 8:04Speaker 4: the next ten years? What does that look like? And
- 8:07Speaker 4: honoring not only myself, you know, my songwriting, but his songwriting.
- 8:11Speaker 4: He's a great songwriter. He's had songs cut by other
- 8:13Speaker 4: artists that I have nothing to do with, and vice versa.
- 8:17Speaker 4: And you know that fueled the group, and that fueled
- 8:20Speaker 4: both of us. Was waking up every day hunting down
- 8:22Speaker 4: songs and ideas, and you know, for to have another
- 8:27Speaker 4: trailblazing idea. My idea was, hey, let's keep everything going
- 8:33Speaker 4: and let's do a three hour set, no openers, let's
- 8:37Speaker 4: do solo songs, Let's do FGL songs and be under
- 8:40Speaker 4: the same umbrella and nothing changes. And so watching the
- 8:45Speaker 4: episode yesterday, you know, just so casual that you know,
- 8:49Speaker 4: he just he wanted to do FGL two. I wanted
- 8:52Speaker 4: to do it all. You know, I didn't think that
- 8:54Speaker 4: was out of bounds. You look at Lady A. You know,
- 8:59Speaker 4: Hillary does some solo records in the Christian space. Charles
- 9:02Speaker 4: Kelly has done some solo stuff. He does some shows,
- 9:05Speaker 4: and I love how that operates. I think that's pretty
- 9:08Speaker 4: special that you can you can honor yourself and you
- 9:12Speaker 4: can honor what you've built and you can continue forward.
- 9:15Speaker 4: So that's the mindset that I had. It wasn't just
- 9:18Speaker 4: I have to have a solo career. I would word
- 9:21Speaker 4: it as I wanted a solo outlet as a creative,
- 9:25Speaker 4: as a songwriter. So that's just I wanted to reshape.
- 9:31Speaker 4: You know that that part of the story for you guys,
- 9:35Speaker 4: because you know, I put a lot of thought into
- 9:37Speaker 4: what that could look like. You know, I had a
- 9:39Speaker 4: lot of conversations. I wrote out a pretty detailed plan,
- 9:43Speaker 4: and I don't think it's emotional. You know, it doesn't
- 9:46Speaker 4: have to be emotional. I was listening to things that
- 9:48Speaker 4: you know, it gets sticky about what songs go where.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I think it's easy to figure out it's it's it's
- 9:53Speaker 4: not emotional thing for me. When we're talking about business
- 9:56Speaker 4: and creativity and going forward and also, man, what we
- 10:01Speaker 4: had and what we built in a short amount of time,
- 10:03Speaker 4: people would give their entire lives for and some people
- 10:06Speaker 4: never get to that place. So I don't ever want
- 10:09Speaker 4: to downplay the success and everything that we built. It
- 10:13Speaker 4: means a lot to me. It still does. It's very
- 10:15Speaker 4: important and you know, like made a lot of history,
- 10:19Speaker 4: made a lot of memories. There's a great brotherhood there
- 10:21Speaker 4: and you know, so it's not some casual you know,
- 10:26Speaker 4: I wanted just to go off on my own. It
- 10:28Speaker 4: was very intentional about a new plan. How do we
- 10:33Speaker 4: genre bend, how do we trailblaze for another ten years?
- 10:37Speaker 2: Right right, because you're right thinking you were getting to
- 10:39Speaker 2: the end of this was it the fifth record or.
- 10:41Speaker 4: The fifth record?
- 10:42Speaker 2: You're coming up on a deal and you're thinking the
- 10:44Speaker 2: way we've exploded something that you've been intentional about since
- 10:47Speaker 2: was the twenty sixteen and kind of put pen the
- 10:50Speaker 2: paper and everything else. In your mind, you're thinking, do
- 10:52Speaker 2: we just do the same thing and we think it's
- 10:55Speaker 2: going to carry or in your brain, how do we
- 10:58Speaker 2: kind of branch off for platform and leverage that we've
- 11:01Speaker 2: created to also you know, benefit ourselves and put it
- 11:04Speaker 2: all together, not benefit ourselves separately, but benefit ourselves and
- 11:07Speaker 2: like put everything together to make it seem like what
- 11:10Speaker 2: can we do different to add to our shadows our concerts?
- 11:12Speaker 4: For sure? How do we show our talents and our
- 11:15Speaker 4: brand and ourselves in a different way that nobody's seen before.
- 11:19Speaker 4: So I thought that was a really good idea. And
- 11:21Speaker 4: obviously we couldn't, you know, really, at the end of
- 11:23Speaker 4: the day, agree on what that looked like. But I
- 11:25Speaker 4: just think it's important for people to know that I
- 11:27Speaker 4: didn't leave FGL. I didn't want to just do solo
- 11:31Speaker 4: and half ass FGL and y'all talked about, well, you know,
- 11:35Speaker 4: what would happen if a solo show came up for
- 11:37Speaker 4: me and an FGL show. It's the same thing with
- 11:40Speaker 4: y'all's podcast when y'all were still playing. It's like, my
- 11:43Speaker 4: main job is my main job. What I do with
- 11:45Speaker 4: my off time is my time, right, just like y'all,
- 11:49Speaker 4: And so you know, I was also curious about what
- 11:52Speaker 4: the conversation looked like with Rabes. You know, when you
- 11:54Speaker 4: guys wanted to do a podcast, and I know you
- 11:57Speaker 4: guys can relate to what you know, probably I was.
- 12:00Speaker 4: I was feeling, and I felt of wanting wanting to
- 12:03Speaker 4: do more and wanting to create more. Man, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 4: I'm an entrepreneur, I'm a songwriter, I'm an artist. Me
- 12:08Speaker 4: and my wife have multiple businesses together. Tyler and I
- 12:11Speaker 4: had multiple things running, you know, a great publishing company,
- 12:15Speaker 4: giving songwriters a voice and helping shape their creative talents.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And so we had a lot of irons in the
- 12:21Speaker 4: fire and having a lot of fun at it. So
- 12:23Speaker 4: it was really nothing new in a sense, but that's
- 12:28Speaker 4: kind of where I wanted to start.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, well let's let's so just for clarity,
- 12:34Speaker 1: when was that fifth album done? When was that the end?
- 12:36Speaker 4: What year was that we turned it? In May of
- 12:41Speaker 4: We turned that album in May of twenty twenty, so
- 12:45Speaker 4: it didn't come out till February. And I also, I
- 12:48Speaker 4: also would love to hit on this too. I think
- 12:49Speaker 4: it's important because I've read a lot of articles that
- 12:52Speaker 4: have some facts in there and some truth, and then
- 12:54Speaker 4: some are just not not on the timeline, you know.
- 12:59Speaker 4: For what it's worth, I just want to be factual here.
- 13:03Speaker 4: You know, Tyler had solo music out before I even did,
- 13:06Speaker 4: you know, before we even got our fifth album out.
- 13:08Speaker 4: You know, he had released a couple of songs. He
- 13:11Speaker 4: had played Biden's inauguration, which was a huge look to
- 13:16Speaker 4: be a solo act with Tim McGraw. He had released
- 13:19Speaker 4: another song and you know, my I didn't start releasing
- 13:22Speaker 4: music till April. So I just think that's that's I'd
- 13:26Speaker 4: love for fans and anybody listening to know that's the truth.
- 13:31Speaker 4: He was rocking at radio immediately, you know, top of
- 13:35Speaker 4: January of twenty twenty one, and I didn't get music
- 13:40Speaker 4: out till April, and then the album in June. And
- 13:43Speaker 4: you know, I created Sunshine State of Mind with a
- 13:45Speaker 4: sonic respect of what we had built. And also I
- 13:50Speaker 4: created Sunshine State of Mind in a time it's all good,
- 13:55Speaker 4: in a time where the world was shut down, you know.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Like I've always dove into songwriting and the highs and
- 13:59Speaker 4: lows of life. When life is good, I want to
- 14:01Speaker 4: write when life is bad or in between, I'm going
- 14:04Speaker 4: to write. And so it helped me get through a
- 14:07Speaker 4: hard time, you know, of being able to dive into
- 14:10Speaker 4: songs that aren't going to fit on the FGL record,
- 14:13Speaker 4: but songs that I can you know, that are authentic
- 14:16Speaker 4: to me and just get my voice out there. And
- 14:17Speaker 4: it was, you know, a passion project. Now now it's
- 14:22Speaker 4: a career, you know what I'm saying. It wasn't supposed
- 14:26Speaker 4: to be a career, but I have I through a
- 14:29Speaker 4: chain of events of some of what you heard. You know,
- 14:33Speaker 4: I wasn't able to do both right, and but your
- 14:35Speaker 4: goal was you wanted to do both?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely want to have your outlet.
- 14:39Speaker 4: And it was It wasn't casual. It was very thought out.
- 14:42Speaker 4: It was very intentional, very methodical, just like every every
- 14:45Speaker 4: move that I make.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And so in that realm, when you talk about Lady
- 14:50Speaker 2: A and the people you're referring to who's kind of
- 14:52Speaker 2: done the thing that you were trying to be intentional
- 14:55Speaker 2: in creating, how do you give us some game on
- 14:58Speaker 2: how something like that works and stays together? Like did
- 15:01Speaker 2: you have conversations with any of these groups? Because then
- 15:04Speaker 2: there are also groups with ultimately where stuff gets sticky
- 15:06Speaker 2: and gets in the way you break up depending on
- 15:08Speaker 2: how the friction goes. But when you're creating this and
- 15:10Speaker 2: being intentional and pen to paper and everything else, what
- 15:13Speaker 2: does success look like with all that that you were
- 15:16Speaker 2: trying to present to both of you guys?
- 15:18Speaker 4: Do you know what I mean? Yeah? I remember I
- 15:20Speaker 4: remember talking to Big Kenny back a couple of years ago,
- 15:23Speaker 4: and he was like, you know, all that matters is
- 15:25Speaker 4: if you guys are on the same page, that's all
- 15:28Speaker 4: that matters. And you know clearly we one hundred percent weren't.
- 15:32Speaker 4: But man, I mean we were at a point where
- 15:36Speaker 4: we were only playing twenty five at the high end,
- 15:39Speaker 4: maybe forty shows a year. We had just signed the
- 15:42Speaker 4: biggest Live nation deal probably a duo had ever signed,
- 15:46Speaker 4: and I was really looking forward to touring those dates
- 15:49Speaker 4: they ended up getting canceled, but was really looking forward
- 15:52Speaker 4: to connecting with fans, getting out there and doing what
- 15:55Speaker 4: we do. And to me, you know, nothing would have changed.
- 16:00Speaker 4: It's like, it's just like what when I have free
- 16:05Speaker 4: time because we're not burning up the road like we
- 16:07Speaker 4: used to. You know, it's a very select amount of shows.
- 16:12Speaker 4: You know, a couple of things, and it's a lot
- 16:14Speaker 4: of free time. Like they can go on vacation, they
- 16:17Speaker 4: have kids, you know, they have different priorities and things
- 16:20Speaker 4: that they love to do, just like you know me
- 16:21Speaker 4: and my family, and you know, a lot of my
- 16:23Speaker 4: off time, I like to work on songs. I like
- 16:25Speaker 4: to get creative and work on other things.
- 16:28Speaker 3: And so.
- 16:30Speaker 4: To me, I worded it that nothing would change. It's
- 16:34Speaker 4: like we can we can figure out what that looks
- 16:37Speaker 4: like specifically on you know, figuring out a week to
- 16:41Speaker 4: block out writing some songs or recording like I'll never
- 16:45Speaker 4: not be there. I just I just thought it was
- 16:49Speaker 4: a great look for both of us. Like I encouraged,
- 16:51Speaker 4: like I said, you know him to do some solo.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I want to do some solo, and then we'll continue
- 16:56Speaker 4: to do what we've always done and in Trailblaze. Right
- 17:00Speaker 4: to me, nothing has changed, Like you didn't miss football
- 17:03Speaker 4: practice to come to a pod. No, no, you know
- 17:06Speaker 4: what I'm saying, And here's that. And I just want
- 17:10Speaker 4: you to know it's like starting over as a solo
- 17:13Speaker 4: artist for both of us. It's like, well, do I
- 17:15Speaker 4: go do a BK show and make and lose money
- 17:19Speaker 4: or do I go make what we make for FGL.
- 17:22Speaker 4: It's a no brainer, right, And so I just I
- 17:26Speaker 4: think it's important to hear my experience and my heart.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Oh absolutely, from kind of how how we conceptualize this
- 17:36Speaker 4: idea and how I thought of it. But really, yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 4: I didn't. I didn't want anything to change. It's like,
- 17:42Speaker 4: you do what you want to do on your free time.
- 17:44Speaker 4: That's great. I want to do what I want to
- 17:46Speaker 4: do on my free time, and you know, we'll schedule
- 17:49Speaker 4: dates out to record crush some shows continue to make
- 17:55Speaker 4: money for our families on something that we've given thirteen
- 17:58Speaker 4: fourteen years of our life too, that that not many
- 18:02Speaker 4: people have the opportunity to even do. You know, So.
- 18:08Speaker 2: When did it start? When did it start to go sideways?
- 18:10Speaker 2: Because you had mentioned earlier about what was it February
- 18:13Speaker 2: of twenty twenty.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Twenty one the first album or first songs?
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so Tyler Solos come out.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Solos came out in February of twenty one. Tyler on
- 18:26Speaker 1: the when he sat on the bus so that BK
- 18:29Speaker 1: came to him and wanted to go solo. That's what
- 18:31Speaker 1: we were saying is incorrect. That's partially the truth, not
- 18:33Speaker 1: fully the truth is what you're saying, right.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, was he already starting to do solo stuff? I
- 18:40Speaker 2: got a call in while you were trying to figure out, like.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I wasn't ready to make an announcement on having
- 18:46Speaker 4: solo outlets and and do that. He really thought it
- 18:50Speaker 4: was necessary to do that in January January third or fourth,
- 18:53Speaker 4: you can go back and look on fgl Instagram of
- 18:55Speaker 4: twenty one. It was his idea to go on and say, hey,
- 18:58Speaker 4: we're gonna be doing some different things. We're going to tour,
- 19:01Speaker 4: And that was only because he had a song with
- 19:03Speaker 4: McGraw coming out Undivided, and he was gonna be playing,
- 19:07Speaker 4: like I said to Biden inauguration and starting to get
- 19:10Speaker 4: out there and get visible as a solo artist. So
- 19:14Speaker 4: I wasn't even ready to make that announcement because I'm like, yo,
- 19:18Speaker 4: our album. So his song came out in January, Our
- 19:20Speaker 4: record was coming out in February, and I was ready
- 19:24Speaker 4: to like ride that out, go do press, you know,
- 19:29Speaker 4: and focus on that, and not in a place where
- 19:32Speaker 4: I wanted to rush out this announcement and not even
- 19:35Speaker 4: ready for that.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So when that announcement happened, you weren't wanting that to go, no,
- 19:39Speaker 2: to go live.
- 19:41Speaker 1: When you were. You brought the Biden inauguration a couple
- 19:44Speaker 1: of times. That obviously is a big deal because of
- 19:47Speaker 1: how polarizing the political political stuff has been for that
- 19:50Speaker 1: the last ten years. Was that a conversation that both
- 19:53Speaker 1: of you had whether that was appropriate or not for
- 19:55Speaker 1: FGL a representative of FGL to go do that or
- 19:58Speaker 1: did that kind of.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Because a lot of people do thing think a lot
- 20:00Speaker 2: of the breakup was political.
- 20:01Speaker 1: That's where that's what I was getting at it is
- 20:03Speaker 1: because you know he does abide an inauguration shortly after that.
- 20:07Speaker 1: You guys are now solo careers, and there's not a
- 20:08Speaker 1: whole lot of communication. Did you guys speak about that
- 20:11Speaker 1: before Tyler did it? Or it's kind of I was down.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I was down in uh, South Florida looking at boats,
- 20:17Speaker 4: and he called me and he said, hey, I've already
- 20:19Speaker 4: recorded it. You know, I'm putting a song with Tim out.
- 20:24Speaker 4: So I was told what was happening, right, and he said,
- 20:27Speaker 4: we're gonna play the inauguration. How are you gonna be
- 20:29Speaker 4: a moment? To be honest with you, I was just
- 20:32Speaker 4: a little caught off guard because you know, I was
- 20:34Speaker 4: told that and I was on board with this that.
- 20:37Speaker 4: You know, no solo music comes out before the FGL record, right,
- 20:41Speaker 4: So I was all on board. And then to get
- 20:43Speaker 4: a call saying, you know, he's going to make a
- 20:46Speaker 4: very visible statement and performance before the record and then
- 20:51Speaker 4: go go right to radio. Uh, you know, definitely a
- 20:54Speaker 4: little caught off guard. But you know, at the end
- 20:57Speaker 4: of the day, where were.
- 20:59Speaker 2: You January sixth? Just get that. Sorry, we just watched
- 21:04Speaker 2: the Tom Brady that question that well, and I just
- 21:08Speaker 2: asked you tread those waters.
- 21:10Speaker 1: You did, because that's a tough time. You're like Biden Trump,
- 21:13Speaker 1: You're just like.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Man, you know, going on concerts. It's like concerts were
- 21:17Speaker 2: getting canceled. Some some artists still toured, like maybe maybe
- 21:21Speaker 2: Tyler didn't want to, maybe you do. I'm so curious
- 21:24Speaker 2: how everything was unfolding. That's what I'm asking you.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Now. You know, I've read a lot and people have said,
- 21:29Speaker 4: you know, it was political and all that, but you know,
- 21:32Speaker 4: really the public the public issues started. I believe it
- 21:38Speaker 4: was right after right after the election in twenty twenty.
- 21:42Speaker 4: You know, he he and his wife had unfollowed us,
- 21:45Speaker 4: and you know he I'm not I'm not exaggerating. You know,
- 21:49Speaker 4: he got on It's you can go look up the videos.
- 21:51Speaker 4: But he said, you know, BK was posting some stuff,
- 21:54Speaker 4: some political stuff, and I didn't want to see it.
- 21:56Speaker 4: And he you know, told me that he liked me
- 21:58Speaker 4: better in person, not online. That caught me off guard
- 22:01Speaker 4: as well, for my brother to have those thoughts and feelings.
- 22:07Speaker 4: But so that was the first kind of thing that
- 22:10Speaker 4: happened where, you know, publicly people I could see how
- 22:15Speaker 4: they started framing that.
- 22:17Speaker 1: For sure, but because very heightened at that time, extremely
- 22:20Speaker 1: heightened at that time.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Yeah, for everybody. But you know, I grew up in
- 22:24Speaker 4: a world where you know, my dad was in politics
- 22:26Speaker 4: for twenty years city commissioner, mayor, county chair, and I
- 22:30Speaker 4: watched him move and progress city counties along with different
- 22:38Speaker 4: minded people. And that's what makes America great is people
- 22:42Speaker 4: that see things differently but can still get it done
- 22:46Speaker 4: at the end of the day. Yeah, right, that's my mindset.
- 22:49Speaker 4: That's how I approached it. So you know, for me
- 22:54Speaker 4: and my family, it wasn't political. We didn't unfollow anybody.
- 22:59Speaker 4: I was ready to go to work.
- 23:01Speaker 2: And so now it's a lot of this stuff being
- 23:05Speaker 2: just unlike, there's not a lot of communication going on,
- 23:08Speaker 2: and then you're both kind of finding out just things
- 23:10Speaker 2: on the internet or are you guys kind of in
- 23:12Speaker 2: tune with each other the whole time, knowing that there's
- 23:14Speaker 2: some instability happening. It's just more of a ticking time.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Yeah, we were talking. You know, we got on a podcast.
- 23:21Speaker 4: You know, a day or two after that, there's like
- 23:23Speaker 4: a Rolling Stones article that came out about the unfollowing.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we got on.
- 23:29Speaker 4: I got on. I didn't want to get on and
- 23:31Speaker 4: do that, but got on to try to do some
- 23:33Speaker 4: damage control. I don't think that did any good.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Well, okay, you go on a podcast to do some
- 23:37Speaker 1: damage control. You guys have each other's phone numbers. Did
- 23:40Speaker 1: you guys try to call each other about it? Or
- 23:41Speaker 1: was it like we'll settle this in the public eye.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Uh, I mean, it wasn't really uh too much of
- 23:50Speaker 4: a heated thing at that time, like right after the election.
- 23:55Speaker 4: It mean, it wasn't It wasn't terrible. We were chatting
- 24:00Speaker 4: and you know he did call me and tell me,
- 24:02Speaker 4: I like you better in person not online. Yeah, and
- 24:05Speaker 4: he told me that it's.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Tough words to hear, so that one person that we
- 24:10Speaker 1: know that hits us up on and to be honest,
- 24:13Speaker 1: oh yeah yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 4: And so I think one of the things that triggered
- 24:16Speaker 4: him was, you know, I had an American flag and
- 24:18Speaker 4: another flag flying on a close friends post to about
- 24:22Speaker 4: twelve people and in my driveway gated nobody could see it.
- 24:29Speaker 4: And you know, I think that was the one that
- 24:32Speaker 4: was to my close friends who he was on that list,
- 24:36Speaker 4: and if it was anything public I posted, I posted
- 24:40Speaker 4: a couple of things, but I'm I'm proud that I
- 24:42Speaker 4: posted it. I said, you know, I'm not sure why
- 24:45Speaker 4: we're still locked down. If there's going to be you know,
- 24:48Speaker 4: big you know, protests in the streets and big celebrations,
- 24:54Speaker 4: but we can't go do concerts. Yeah, I don't really
- 24:57Speaker 4: understand that. And I was backing the blue collar hard workers,
- 25:01Speaker 4: the people that don't have a voice, people that need
- 25:06Speaker 4: that kind of backup support, people like my dad, the
- 25:09Speaker 4: way that I grew up. You know what I'm saying,
- 25:11Speaker 4: people that were out of business, out of work, in
- 25:13Speaker 4: a tough spot, losing their everything that they've worked for.
- 25:17Speaker 4: You know, I watched your boss Dave raise a ton
- 25:20Speaker 4: of money during that time, very inspiring, and you know
- 25:25Speaker 4: I was I was ready to get out there and
- 25:27Speaker 4: play concerts man.
- 25:28Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:30Speaker 4: And again back where.
- 25:33Speaker 2: You guys are having concerts, if if both of you
- 25:35Speaker 2: say yes, we want to do concerts, or was it
- 25:37Speaker 2: more of like a label thing where it's like, hey,
- 25:39Speaker 2: we're not going to go do No.
- 25:41Speaker 4: It wasn't a label thing in terms of live shows.
- 25:43Speaker 4: You know, I think it was up to us, Yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 4: for sure.
- 25:46Speaker 1: And there was a disagreement between the two of you
- 25:48Speaker 1: whether you should have life concerts or not.
- 25:52Speaker 4: I think at the time, you know, I think there
- 25:55Speaker 4: was there was you know, I know we canceled our
- 26:00Speaker 4: ore twenty twenty one fall to her, which I was
- 26:05Speaker 4: really excited about. But you know, navigating through that was
- 26:11Speaker 4: not easy, right, being ready to being ready to go.
- 26:14Speaker 4: But you know, kind of that that kind of is
- 26:17Speaker 4: what it is.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's a that's a tough world. If
- 26:20Speaker 1: you guys both have different views on what's going on,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and you're wanting to play concerts and I'm assuming by
- 26:25Speaker 1: you saying you wanted to, I'm only going to have
- 26:26Speaker 1: to assuming that Tyler didn't want to and there's a
- 26:28Speaker 1: big disagreement.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I mean, think about all this stuff in the NFL
- 26:31Speaker 2: that was happening, like in our locker rooms, like when
- 26:33Speaker 2: we're having to do all the tedious things and some
- 26:36Speaker 2: guys are like, hey, dude.
- 26:37Speaker 1: The Tits got put under an investigation where the NFL
- 26:40Speaker 1: looked at all of our tapes to see if guys
- 26:43Speaker 1: were wearing you were bad guys. These were one of
- 26:47Speaker 1: the guys that were trying to get serious swear.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I posted something after the game like we were celebrating
- 26:51Speaker 2: to win.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah, after the Bills game.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and stretchers like, hey, you need to take this
- 26:56Speaker 2: down because the NFL will hammered down on us. Like
- 26:58Speaker 2: I know we're celebrating a win, but you need to
- 27:00Speaker 2: have your mask on. I'm just thinking that this is
- 27:02Speaker 2: so gay it dude, it really.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It was crazy because there was a time where we're
- 27:08Speaker 1: supposed to play the Steelers, right, yeah, canceled, supposed to
- 27:11Speaker 1: play Steelers. That game gets canceled. Then like four days
- 27:13Speaker 1: they're like, hey, you guys are playing the Bills on Tuesday.
- 27:14Speaker 1: We gotta get ready, but we can't come in the
- 27:16Speaker 1: facility because they were doing an investigation on the Titans.
- 27:19Speaker 1: So you guys go practice, So the Office of Lineman
- 27:21Speaker 1: Receiver stuff like that. We all dispersed and dispersed. We
- 27:24Speaker 1: kind of went and did our thing, and that was Yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Well they started looking at cameras of all the NFL
- 27:29Speaker 1: teams and they're like, well, we can't punish all of them.
- 27:31Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, I didn't know it was dude.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It was a I think it was kind of underreccause
- 27:35Speaker 2: somebody took a photo of the DB's practicing in a
- 27:37Speaker 2: park or yeah. Yeah, basically like told on us. Yeah snitched, yeah, snitch,
- 27:43Speaker 2: like we're trying to get ready for the bills. We
- 27:44Speaker 2: gotta do something.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We we actually won that game too. We were literally like,
- 27:50Speaker 1: we don't ever have to practice.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Brought to you by Zoom, Sponsored by Zoom. We don't
- 27:55Speaker 2: have to practice anymore. Never.
- 27:57Speaker 1: We were fresh. That was amazing. Yeah, we had we
- 28:00Speaker 1: had a big outbreak. Bunch of you guys got the
- 28:02Speaker 1: Vida the boys lost a lot of good boys out there.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Man.
- 28:06Speaker 1: It was tough, dude.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 2: I my question in your opinion, obviously there's a lot
- 28:11Speaker 2: of there's a multitude of things, but in your opinion,
- 28:14Speaker 2: what was the breaking point for you guys? And also
- 28:17Speaker 2: second question, when you think back on some of the
- 28:20Speaker 2: way you navigated it, what are some things you look
- 28:23Speaker 2: back on about. Okay, I could have approached it differently.
- 28:27Speaker 4: You know, I fought the good fight to keep FGL
- 28:31Speaker 4: going and to continue to kind of put together a
- 28:34Speaker 4: plan on what that would look like. You know, we
- 28:36Speaker 4: we were doing our last you know, festival shows in
- 28:39Speaker 4: twenty twenty two. We did probably twelve or fourteen of them,
- 28:41Speaker 4: and we were killing it. It was great, and I
- 28:43Speaker 4: was you know, we were talking in person and even
- 28:46Speaker 4: you know, via email and saying hey, the demand is there,
- 28:51Speaker 4: you know, like, okay, we're kind of nice. This it's
- 28:55Speaker 4: I don't think us having solo outlets as effect thing
- 29:01Speaker 4: our main business and our main brand and what we've spent,
- 29:04Speaker 4: you know, our entire adult lives doing clearly not affecting that.
- 29:11Speaker 4: But breaking point. I don't know if there's that. I
- 29:20Speaker 4: don't know if there's a breaking point per se. But
- 29:23Speaker 4: you know, he this is this is this part is true.
- 29:26Speaker 4: I mean he said, you know, that was his boundary.
- 29:29Speaker 4: And if he thought it was best to support me
- 29:33Speaker 4: by cutting off something that I put my life into
- 29:37Speaker 4: as well, that's one way to support somebody. I didn't
- 29:42Speaker 4: agree with it. I was very protective of our brand,
- 29:47Speaker 4: very protective about every move that we made about you know,
- 29:52Speaker 4: are we going to go on and announce we're done
- 29:54Speaker 4: on CBS Sunday Mornings. No, I'm not. I'm not done.
- 29:58Speaker 4: I'm not going on it. I don't want to do that.
- 30:00Speaker 4: I don't want to be done. So it's just you know,
- 30:04Speaker 4: seeing things in a different light. And I think he
- 30:08Speaker 4: was very concerned about what a solo outlet for me
- 30:11Speaker 4: specifically would do to the brand. And you know, he
- 30:15Speaker 4: voiced that many times to me and.
- 30:18Speaker 2: What did he think it would do to the brand?
- 30:20Speaker 4: Water it down?
- 30:23Speaker 2: And at this point he has solo stuff out, okay, because.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I'm also yeff, let's put more clarity on that. So
- 30:31Speaker 1: you and Tyler are having conversations. He's saying, if you
- 30:33Speaker 1: do a solo act, it's going to water down fgl
- 30:36Speaker 1: But at the same time he had a solo act
- 30:38Speaker 1: going on, or he was in the middle of cutting
- 30:40Speaker 1: solo stuff. It was, it was.
- 30:42Speaker 4: These are the initial conversations, probably September October of twenty twenty.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Now for those of us who don't know, how long
- 30:49Speaker 1: does it take to write a song like Undivided? Cause
- 30:52Speaker 1: I think that when I listened to you talk and
- 30:55Speaker 1: I heard Tyler talk because I went back and listened
- 30:56Speaker 1: to it, I texted you today too. You should probably
- 30:58Speaker 1: listen to it because we're touch a lot on it
- 31:00Speaker 1: is there is such a big miscommunication between the two
- 31:03Speaker 1: of you because Tyler feels like he was blindsided. You
- 31:06Speaker 1: feel like you were blindsided in a way too that
- 31:08Speaker 1: you're like, how does this not all work? So obviously
- 31:10Speaker 1: it's a lack of communication. But now we're talking about
- 31:12Speaker 1: timelines because that's what's really important because if Tyler is
- 31:16Speaker 1: saying that's where I draw the line as we're not
- 31:17Speaker 1: doing solo acts, but at the same time he's cutting
- 31:21Speaker 1: solo acts, well, then we can see where there's a
- 31:22Speaker 1: problem there. But if it's like, I want to just
- 31:24Speaker 1: know chronologically how this all worked out, so we can
- 31:28Speaker 1: all kind of figure out a way to.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Get fall of twenty twenty. When I went to him,
- 31:31Speaker 4: I had written a pile of songs after taking some
- 31:34Speaker 4: months off.
- 31:34Speaker 2: We like I said, when you guys canceled the tour
- 31:37Speaker 2: and everything, this.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Is this is call Yeah, you're you're all fall out.
- 31:43Speaker 4: By then all of twenty twenty.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Undivided came out January.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Okay, okay, all right, I'm called it.
- 31:49Speaker 4: And so you know, the initial conversations probably September that
- 31:54Speaker 4: was when you know, he was very concerned about you
- 31:57Speaker 4: know it watering, you know down. But again I went
- 32:01Speaker 4: to him with the idea of, look, it's not just me,
- 32:06Speaker 4: like you can spread your wings, I can spread my wings,
- 32:08Speaker 4: and we can continue to spread the wings of fgl right,
- 32:11Speaker 4: and the label we don't have to have different man
- 32:14Speaker 4: like it could all be under one thing and be
- 32:18Speaker 4: supportive in that way and growing right. It was a
- 32:23Speaker 4: couple of months after that, you know where I was,
- 32:25Speaker 4: you know, he's you know, no music out till the
- 32:27Speaker 4: FGL records out. And then December probably third or fourth
- 32:31Speaker 4: of twenty twenty, is when I got a call when
- 32:33Speaker 4: I was looking at a boat, like I said of
- 32:35Speaker 4: you know, hey, I'm we got to make an announcement soon.
- 32:39Speaker 4: You know, I'm putting out a song with McGraw, going
- 32:41Speaker 4: to radio doing this.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So so December he calls you says, I got a
- 32:48Speaker 1: song come out in McGrath, but there was a deal
- 32:49Speaker 1: made that we're not going to have any solo stuff
- 32:52Speaker 1: released until February when the new FGL album comes out.
- 32:57Speaker 1: How did you receive that information when he when he
- 33:00Speaker 1: told you that, no other than the political thing I'm
- 33:03Speaker 1: talking about from you your partners reaching out to.
- 33:06Speaker 4: You about the song, about the song, and that when there's.
- 33:08Speaker 1: A when in what you were saying is there was
- 33:10Speaker 1: an agreement already.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just surprised, I mean shocked for sure, Just
- 33:15Speaker 4: like Okay, I thought we had a deal, you know,
- 33:20Speaker 4: about what the plan was, so I just didn't I
- 33:24Speaker 4: didn't think it was going back to my main my
- 33:28Speaker 4: main thing is protecting FGL. I didn't think that was
- 33:34Speaker 4: a good look. Yeah, if I'd have done it or
- 33:37Speaker 4: he did it right. You know, again, FGL was my
- 33:40Speaker 4: top priority, and you know too, I remember y'all were
- 33:44Speaker 4: talking about, you know, giving fifty percent to a solo
- 33:47Speaker 4: career and fifty percent to FGL. I wasn't wanting to
- 33:51Speaker 4: put one hundred percent and start all the way over
- 33:54Speaker 4: and play clubs and do all that. I don't mind
- 33:59Speaker 4: it now because I have to and I'm building and
- 34:02Speaker 4: I'm excited about it now. But for people to know
- 34:05Speaker 4: how the origin of this all happened, you know, a
- 34:09Speaker 4: lot of people think I just left and wanted to
- 34:11Speaker 4: do solo stuff because that's what he's saying. But to
- 34:14Speaker 4: give context, you know, I was, like I said, very
- 34:17Speaker 4: methodical about how we grow and I want to keep
- 34:21Speaker 4: this together. It's important to me. This is a once
- 34:23Speaker 4: in a lifetime thing. And again, you know, we talked
- 34:27Speaker 4: about it for years. We went to you know, on
- 34:30Speaker 4: site in twenty eighteen and chatted about this this plan
- 34:34Speaker 4: of you know, once our record contract's done, we're going
- 34:36Speaker 4: to renegotiate and have freedom. You know, there was a time,
- 34:40Speaker 4: you know, when we didn't even write separate, and you
- 34:45Speaker 4: know we kind of I kind of pushed for It's
- 34:47Speaker 4: okay if we write things separate. Man, I'm a fan
- 34:50Speaker 4: of you, you're a brother. I support that. I'm not
- 34:52Speaker 4: going to get jealous If So and so cut your
- 34:56Speaker 4: song and it goes number one, I'm happy for you.
- 34:58Speaker 4: That only helps me and that's how it should be. Vice.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Everybody winning is good for everybody, right right?
- 35:07Speaker 1: So okay, trying to break all this down in my head,
- 35:11Speaker 1: break it down. So you guys had a conversation in
- 35:15Speaker 1: twenty eighteen about having possibly doing your own solo thing.
- 35:21Speaker 1: When that conversation happened, was the plan the idea fully
- 35:26Speaker 1: formulated in your head of Hey, we should do solo
- 35:29Speaker 1: acts as our opening acts and do a three hour
- 35:32Speaker 1: show of FGL. Or were you still working through an idea?
- 35:34Speaker 1: How is the communication between you and Tyler in twenty
- 35:37Speaker 1: eighteen twenty first idea came up?
- 35:39Speaker 4: Yeah, not not probably that then, but keeping FGL together
- 35:43Speaker 4: was top priority.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Right and you both agreed on that. Yeah, you both
- 35:46Speaker 1: were like FGL is the number one thing. Yeah. So
- 35:48Speaker 1: now we fast forward. He's released that song with Tim McGraw,
- 35:52Speaker 1: the album comes out in February. At what point is
- 35:55Speaker 1: are you guys like we're done? And who sent the
- 35:57Speaker 1: divorce letter in?
- 36:03Speaker 4: You know, here's here's here's what happened. The boundary was,
- 36:08Speaker 4: the boundary changed over time. The boundary was, if you
- 36:12Speaker 4: want to do that, we're not gonna make fgl music
- 36:15Speaker 4: for the foreseeable future. That well, that's not what I want.
- 36:19Speaker 4: But that's what I told him. I said, I hear
- 36:21Speaker 4: what you're saying, but that's not what I'm asking for.
- 36:24Speaker 4: That's not what I want. So I was like, all right, well,
- 36:28Speaker 4: I'm gonna make some music and we're gonna we had
- 36:30Speaker 4: a touring deal, we're gonna looking for We're still going
- 36:32Speaker 4: to tour. We're all excited about that. Uh, the songs
- 36:38Speaker 4: came out his song January, he had another song come out.
- 36:41Speaker 4: My songs come out, you know, right after my album
- 36:45Speaker 4: came out in June. Was kind of when you know,
- 36:50Speaker 4: it was kind of a made known to me that
- 36:55Speaker 4: we were, you know, kind of kind of done.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Made known from somebody on on your team for nineteen.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Now Tyler from Tyler.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so Tyler reached out to you personally or did
- 37:04Speaker 1: you reach out to you through people oh, personally and
- 37:07Speaker 1: he said, hey, FGL is done.
- 37:09Speaker 4: Yeah. It went from you know, no music in the
- 37:11Speaker 4: foreseeable future to you know, now now we're not even
- 37:13Speaker 4: going to tour. You know, he was, you know, I'm
- 37:15Speaker 4: just I'm just here to tell the truth. I'm not
- 37:17Speaker 4: here to try to burn down anything whatever. I'm here
- 37:20Speaker 4: to stand up for myself and my family and like
- 37:22Speaker 4: I said, the fans. So you know, he was trying
- 37:25Speaker 4: to get out of the twenty twenty two festival dates
- 37:28Speaker 4: that we had already committed to because he didn't want
- 37:30Speaker 4: to be seen with me really and be seen as
- 37:33Speaker 4: a duo, because he was already ready to you know,
- 37:35Speaker 4: push his solo career and overdrive.
- 37:38Speaker 1: So obviously I can see where you're coming from now
- 37:40Speaker 1: when I received that phone call yesterday, when because you
- 37:43Speaker 1: guys are saying exactly you us are saying the same things,
- 37:45Speaker 1: but yourself, like you're saying that you want to do FGL.
- 37:48Speaker 1: He's saying he wanted to do FGL. But both of
- 37:50Speaker 1: you think that the others broke up FGL. How does
- 37:54Speaker 1: that communication like get so lost in translation when you
- 37:57Speaker 1: guys are together for twelve years before that doing the
- 37:59Speaker 1: bar barbecues, pop it an addy, and headed to the
- 38:02Speaker 1: next spot. Two. Now we're megastars, Like, how does the
- 38:06Speaker 1: communication be between the two of you just evaporate?
- 38:09Speaker 2: Because when they're therapy involved as well.
- 38:11Speaker 4: You know, I don'tn't think the communication evaporated. I think
- 38:14Speaker 4: you know, I put in a lot of work, uh,
- 38:17Speaker 4: individually and together to help lead the way to to
- 38:20Speaker 4: chat with you know, uh, business coaches, mental health coaches,
- 38:27Speaker 4: multiple different options. So I don't think it was a
- 38:31Speaker 4: lack of communication. Maybe it maybe it wasn't just you know,
- 38:35Speaker 4: me having an extra outlet. I'm not one hundred percent sure,
- 38:38Speaker 4: but to lay it down that you know, BK wanted
- 38:42Speaker 4: to go solo and just wanted your support and just
- 38:44Speaker 4: it's just not it's just not the whole truth. There's
- 38:46Speaker 4: no context around these sound bites and these clickbait things
- 38:50Speaker 4: that he's saying that y'all are putting out. You know
- 38:53Speaker 4: what I'm saying, It's like it's important for me to
- 38:59Speaker 4: have my voice heard, just like I wanted to have
- 39:01Speaker 4: my voice heard outside of FGL.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Right, So is UH talk to us about when you
- 39:08Speaker 2: guys are you guys, when you guys are meeting with mentors,
- 39:11Speaker 2: business coaches, therapists, whatever it is. Are you guys all
- 39:13Speaker 2: in the same room talking through this same stuff.
- 39:16Speaker 4: We've done in the room and then at a time,
- 39:18Speaker 4: you know, in the heigh of COVID, I think there's
- 39:19Speaker 4: a lot of zoom too, So we've done both.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Did it ever feel like it was progressing the right way?
- 39:24Speaker 2: Or did it just feel like, you know, things are
- 39:26Speaker 2: just going to be dividing even further when you're getting
- 39:30Speaker 2: off those calls and sit with your wife, or you
- 39:32Speaker 2: feel like, I feel like we're making some progress, or man,
- 39:34Speaker 2: we might be farther away than I thought we were,
- 39:36Speaker 2: or how I take us through those.
- 39:38Speaker 4: Man, it was just a little bit of a grind
- 39:40Speaker 4: to try to to try to find a place that
- 39:42Speaker 4: we could meet in the middle and understand each other.
- 39:44Speaker 4: But it just it just never got to that place.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Yeah, is there any any way in your mind that
- 39:51Speaker 2: FGL gets back together one day?
- 39:54Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean, you never know, man, I mean, look
- 39:56Speaker 4: at the Eagles, look at I mean, there's there's lots
- 39:58Speaker 4: of groups that have that have you know, gone through
- 40:00Speaker 4: way worse things than we have. You know, at the
- 40:06Speaker 4: height of everything, it just never was really terrible it's
- 40:08Speaker 4: just seeing things different.
- 40:11Speaker 2: And would you would you get the band back together?
- 40:15Speaker 2: They could bust with the boys, potentially potentially fixed.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean all we're asking for is like, you know, would.
- 40:23Speaker 4: You get you down to five a conversation? Same same,
- 40:30Speaker 4: but there is like.
- 40:33Speaker 1: All messed up.
- 40:37Speaker 2: But it is good, So would you that's fine? Just
- 40:44Speaker 2: keep playing with it? Would you want to get the
- 40:46Speaker 2: band back together?
- 40:48Speaker 4: Man? I think time will tell you know, I'm I'm
- 40:52Speaker 4: really focused on what I'm doing now. I know he's
- 40:55Speaker 4: really focused. He just dropped an album, and I know
- 40:58Speaker 4: he's putting a lot of hard work into what he's doing,
- 41:00Speaker 4: just just as I am.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And so.
- 41:04Speaker 4: We'll have to see. Man. You know, I'm sure the
- 41:06Speaker 4: fans would like it. I'm sure the fans would would
- 41:09Speaker 4: love that. Man. I'm I'm I feel like I'm pretty
- 41:11Speaker 4: in tune with with the fans. And you know, even
- 41:13Speaker 4: on country radio they're jam in FGL song still a ton,
- 41:17Speaker 4: So I'll just have to see.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's bangs the one.
- 41:22Speaker 1: What's your favorite song, Mitch?
- 41:25Speaker 2: You know it's Cruise.
- 41:26Speaker 1: You know it's Cruise when you when you go to
- 41:33Speaker 1: her solo act, did you play FGL songs as well.
- 41:36Speaker 4: No, I haven't.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like that be odd if you're like
- 41:38Speaker 1: singing Tyler's poets or Tyler's doing it and he's singing
- 41:41Speaker 1: your parts, it's kind of like, yeah, well you're like
- 41:44Speaker 1: kind of singing it. I'm sure like you guys both.
- 41:47Speaker 1: The thing that I'm trying to figure out and I
- 41:49Speaker 1: don't know how to get there because I don't have
- 41:50Speaker 1: the degree for it is there's obvious hurt on both sides,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and both of you feel hurt for different reasons. Well,
- 41:56Speaker 1: it kind of seems like the same reasons.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Both both males just trying to be stoic, trying to
- 42:00Speaker 2: be reserved, right, but knowing that there's some depth, Like both.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Of you have the same exact energy coming on this
- 42:06Speaker 1: bus now. When you call me yesterday, I could see
- 42:07Speaker 1: I could hear the hurt in your voice. Very understandable,
- 42:10Speaker 1: all that you come on here, calm, Yeah, it's passionate
- 42:13Speaker 1: you and you need to have that absolutely.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I did say like, oh ma, BK's not that the
- 42:17Speaker 2: way Taylor's explained it. I was like getting a haircut
- 42:19Speaker 2: of time. I was like, oh shit, for real, man,
- 42:22Speaker 2: juicy BK. On the bus, I think could be sold.
- 42:24Speaker 1: It'll be crazy, but it is. It's so it's I
- 42:27Speaker 1: just wish we could figure out, like the core of
- 42:31Speaker 1: where you both were hurt, how it'll like, and how
- 42:34Speaker 1: you essentially fix it. If nothing else, then just to
- 42:36Speaker 1: have a relationship again, because but you spend twelve years
- 42:38Speaker 1: of your life with somebody, traveling all over the world
- 42:40Speaker 1: having the success you did, Like, there's got to be
- 42:43Speaker 1: a piece of you that misses him a little bit.
- 42:45Speaker 1: It's got to be tough, well.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Miss it all. Yeah, I mean, it's it's a big
- 42:49Speaker 4: part of our life. Man. It was very very special,
- 42:52Speaker 4: you know. It's it's dreams and dreams and dreams came true,
- 42:57Speaker 4: you know, doing what we did together. Yeah, like I said,
- 43:01Speaker 4: very special. I was gonna hit another point something you
- 43:04Speaker 4: just said a second ago, but I forgot what I.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Was talking about. Well, the beginning part was me talking
- 43:08Speaker 1: about how you guys both seem hurt by the situation,
- 43:11Speaker 1: but I can't figure out what the exact point of
- 43:13Speaker 1: hurt was. It to me, the way I am viewing
- 43:16Speaker 1: both of your stories, I'm trying to play Tyler's story
- 43:18Speaker 1: back in my head while also listening to you. Is
- 43:20Speaker 1: you guys, there was there was a conversation. I don't
- 43:23Speaker 1: know where that conversation was, but somebody spoke about and
- 43:26Speaker 1: I feel like we can say that you brought songs
- 43:29Speaker 1: to the table first, being like I wrote these, kind
- 43:31Speaker 1: of being like excited, kind of like I do with Will,
- 43:33Speaker 1: Like sometimes I'll hear an opportunity, I'll get real excited
- 43:35Speaker 1: for Will, and Will doesn't know how to react to
- 43:36Speaker 1: me because he's like, I don't know, like do you
- 43:38Speaker 1: what do you want from me? And then after that
- 43:41Speaker 1: it kind of just seems like it was just a
- 43:43Speaker 1: slow bleed until you guys died, and I don't like
- 43:46Speaker 1: there was you know, the inauguration. We talked about that,
- 43:49Speaker 1: We talked about him releasing songs before, Like when you say.
- 43:51Speaker 4: I think getting back to my love of FGL and
- 43:55Speaker 4: the brand and all the hard work and the fans.
- 43:58Speaker 4: That's one of the reasons that you know, I haven't
- 44:01Speaker 4: played FGL songs. I'm really proud of those and I
- 44:04Speaker 4: miss playing those together. Right, that's to me where they
- 44:08Speaker 4: should live. I think with with some of these half
- 44:13Speaker 4: truths with no context quotes coming out and maybe him
- 44:17Speaker 4: playing FGL songs, one would assume that he's carrying on
- 44:21Speaker 4: fg L without me, right, it appeared it can appear
- 44:26Speaker 4: that way, So out of out of respect of what
- 44:30Speaker 4: we've built together, that's that's why I don't, you know,
- 44:34Speaker 4: and maybe I will one day, you never know. They're
- 44:38Speaker 4: great songs, and I had a hand in writing a
- 44:40Speaker 4: lot of our hits, so you know it, it really
- 44:46Speaker 4: comes down to, you know, I love our brand, I
- 44:48Speaker 4: love what we built, and I was very very protective
- 44:52Speaker 4: and not wanting to announce that we were done because
- 44:55Speaker 4: I wasn't done.
- 44:57Speaker 2: So yeah, when you when you go back to the
- 44:59Speaker 2: call when you were in South Florida and he talks
- 45:02Speaker 2: to you about writing the song with McGraw that's gonna
- 45:04Speaker 2: come out, YadA YadA, and you say, and I don't
- 45:08Speaker 2: know how you responded, but you said, you know, I
- 45:10Speaker 2: thought that we had something going on. We had we
- 45:12Speaker 2: were figuring something out. Like what is his response when
- 45:15Speaker 2: you were saying something like that, because I'm assuming it'side,
- 45:17Speaker 2: So I thought we had something going on here. And
- 45:19Speaker 2: then you're just like, well that's sick, bro. And then
- 45:20Speaker 2: you guys hang up and it just you go your
- 45:22Speaker 2: ways about it, like how is that conversation unfolding when
- 45:26Speaker 2: you're under the assumption of something else and you were
- 45:28Speaker 2: trying to Hey, bro, I thought we I thought we
- 45:32Speaker 2: you know, we're going to do X, Y and Z.
- 45:35Speaker 4: I mean to be honest with you, I just let
- 45:37Speaker 4: it happen. When the song's already recorded and you've got
- 45:41Speaker 4: a record label that's ready to push it and have
- 45:43Speaker 4: this moment, not much you can do.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, damn well Tyler during the interview, so
- 45:51Speaker 1: we asked Tyler about like the breakup and the fans
- 45:54Speaker 1: are kind of clamoring wondering what was going on, and
- 45:56Speaker 1: Tyler said in our podcast that he didn't feel like
- 45:59Speaker 1: it was his place to say what was going on.
- 46:03Speaker 1: He felt it was for you to say what was
- 46:04Speaker 1: going on, kind of putting that situation, saying that it
- 46:08Speaker 1: came from you, that you wanted to go solo. That's
- 46:09Speaker 1: how this kind of all originated. Where was the conversation.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Was there ever a conversation about, like, you guys, how
- 46:15Speaker 1: you're going to announce a breakup, why you should be
- 46:17Speaker 1: the one to do it, why Tyler should be the
- 46:19Speaker 1: one to do it or do it together? Was there
- 46:20Speaker 1: anything like that?
- 46:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we went back and forth multiple times and I
- 46:25Speaker 4: just I really wasn't willing to do it.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Yet you weren't willing to do it because you didn't
- 46:29Speaker 2: want the breakup to happen.
- 46:31Speaker 4: No, I mean, it's it's not just yeah, it's two
- 46:34Speaker 4: people right right, It's like one wants it over and
- 46:37Speaker 4: one doesn't.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:38Speaker 1: But the thing that's crazy is both you guys are
- 46:40Speaker 1: saying you're the ones that got broken up with. You know,
- 46:43Speaker 1: you guys are both the ones that seem the most
- 46:45Speaker 1: like you're like we Tyler, we use the analogy of
- 46:48Speaker 1: like getting divorced, Like someone comes to you and they
- 46:50Speaker 1: have sense to give you an ultimatum and they essentially
- 46:52Speaker 1: choose sleeping with the neighbors. However, Tyler said it, and
- 46:55Speaker 1: now you're saying, like you didn't want it, you didn't
- 46:57Speaker 1: want to release this stuff. So you guys are both
- 46:59Speaker 1: saying the same thing that you didn't want to leave Florida,
- 47:01Speaker 1: Georgia line. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
- 47:03Speaker 2: I think too, Like it's like he says it's important
- 47:05Speaker 2: for him to like kind of speak his truth and
- 47:07Speaker 2: give context around the whole thing, And there's probably the
- 47:09Speaker 2: ultimately it's like you're not just gonna be like, well
- 47:11Speaker 2: he said this, you know what I mean. Yeah, it's
- 47:13Speaker 2: like you're trying to like speak, I wish you would.
- 47:15Speaker 2: You're trying to tell your side of everything while trying
- 47:17Speaker 2: not to be like like I'm not I'm not coming
- 47:19Speaker 2: on here to just be like, oh he said this
- 47:20Speaker 2: whole time I said this, he said that, right, you
- 47:23Speaker 2: know what I mean. I feel like that's kind of
- 47:24Speaker 2: hard to be like, I see what you're saying. It's
- 47:27Speaker 2: like both of them feel like they were caught off guard.
- 47:28Speaker 2: They're both not not necessarily wanting it to happen, and
- 47:31Speaker 2: it's like, well then how could you guys not figure
- 47:33Speaker 2: it out?
- 47:33Speaker 1: Like this is this is the this is the actual
- 47:35Speaker 1: breakup that happens where you know they're going to see
- 47:37Speaker 1: each other at a bar one night and go home
- 47:39Speaker 1: together because there's just so much they don't know. They
- 47:42Speaker 1: both have a couple of dreams to see each other,
- 47:44Speaker 1: like why did we break up? And they kind of
- 47:45Speaker 1: just go home and do the thing and they wake
- 47:47Speaker 1: up and they remember exactly why.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Yeah, like Samuel Jackson shows up and trying to get
- 47:51Speaker 2: the Avengers together.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I don't understand that reference, but yes, yes, well,
- 47:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna agree with you on that. I'll tell what
- 47:59Speaker 1: we need to do. Let's get the boys back together.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Not together in a band, but get them in a
- 48:03Speaker 1: room together and hash it out.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Would you guys come on the bus together?
- 48:08Speaker 4: No?
- 48:08Speaker 2: You know what?
- 48:11Speaker 1: What's where? Where's the Hey?
- 48:12Speaker 2: Maybe we start, let's talk about the good time. Let's
- 48:14Speaker 2: talk about the beginning.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the record?
- 48:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Record?
- 48:19Speaker 4: Bro?
- 48:19Speaker 1: Oh?
- 48:19Speaker 2: Hey, was Kiss My Boots about Tyler?
- 48:22Speaker 4: It's about a lot of people. Y'all aren't careful. It's
- 48:25Speaker 4: gonna be about I want to write. No, man, it's
- 48:31Speaker 4: uh that song. That song special to me and my
- 48:36Speaker 4: co writers. You know it. Really, I could tell you
- 48:38Speaker 4: right now. Being in the music industry, and I'm sure
- 48:41Speaker 4: being a professional athlete and being in the entertainment industry,
- 48:46Speaker 4: y'all probably have a growing list of people that are
- 48:48Speaker 4: on your kiss my Boots list, right. It's not directed
- 48:52Speaker 4: at one person. It's not you know, the day we
- 48:57Speaker 4: wrote that song, I didn't show up having that tie.
- 49:00Speaker 4: I didn't show up thinking we're gonna write that song.
- 49:03Speaker 4: That song came through. Man. I had a guy on
- 49:08Speaker 4: zoom and then two buddies in the room and we
- 49:10Speaker 4: spent hours going over starting songs, starting songs, had a
- 49:13Speaker 4: chorus here, and finally we were like, man, I go, hey,
- 49:16Speaker 4: let's take a break. I need a bite to eat,
- 49:19Speaker 4: and I'm not really loving anything that we're doing. Let's
- 49:21Speaker 4: come back in fifteen minutes. Come back fast lunch, my buddy, Yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 4: fast lunch. My buddy had to get off zoom get
- 49:29Speaker 4: ready for a show. He was out of state. So
- 49:31Speaker 4: I said, hey, two co writers in the room, are
- 49:33Speaker 4: y'all down to stay later? It's a Friday night. And
- 49:36Speaker 4: just through being patient man and looking for no pun intended,
- 49:40Speaker 4: looking for the truth in every session in every writer's room,
- 49:43Speaker 4: every day, right, And so we just started talking about
- 49:46Speaker 4: things and my buddy Dylan was like, throughout a line
- 49:49Speaker 4: that sparked that song. And then we're all pulling from personal,
- 49:53Speaker 4: you know, experiences and just collaborating on the idea. But
- 49:58Speaker 4: he started with the line you know comes that with
- 50:00Speaker 4: the whiskey, and so that that that started the song
- 50:06Speaker 4: and we landed. I remember landing on the hook with
- 50:08Speaker 4: kiss my Boots, and I just I love the song man,
- 50:12Speaker 4: It's just it. Songwriting to me is magic. I have
- 50:16Speaker 4: so much respect for songwriters songwriting game, because there's days
- 50:20Speaker 4: that happened like that, where you sit and you're patient
- 50:22Speaker 4: and you're waiting for that spark of authenticity and truth,
- 50:26Speaker 4: and then there's days like, you know, I have a
- 50:28Speaker 4: song called Trucks, Ducks, Bucks and Beer. Like I had
- 50:31Speaker 4: that title, I saved it for the right group. I
- 50:33Speaker 4: knew I was gonna write that song that day.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:35Speaker 4: So it's just it's such a it's such a funny thing,
- 50:39Speaker 4: but that song for real, I mean, it's it at
- 50:42Speaker 4: the end of the day, I want people to make
- 50:44Speaker 4: it their own. I want people to hear it and go, damn.
- 50:47Speaker 4: I I felt that way, and I've lived it and
- 50:49Speaker 4: I've got I've got a couple of people on my
- 50:51Speaker 4: my kiss my Boots list, and you know, some of
- 50:53Speaker 4: the best comments I've seen on that are like, yo, BK,
- 50:56Speaker 4: thanks for the new workout jam, thanks for thanks for
- 50:58Speaker 4: channeling and putting to a song what I've been dealing with. Right,
- 51:02Speaker 4: So that's that's been the greatest thing about the song.
- 51:07Speaker 4: You know, it's just uh, you know, the whole album
- 51:11Speaker 4: is is definitely like a party. It's positive, or's love songs.
- 51:15Speaker 4: There's songs about being on you know, a bunch of acres,
- 51:19Speaker 4: riding around an old blazer, hanging with Brittany and my wife,
- 51:22Speaker 4: you know. And I put that song last just because
- 51:24Speaker 4: it's it's enough, uh seriousness in one song to make
- 51:28Speaker 4: up for the for the brightness of the rest of
- 51:31Speaker 4: the record. But you know, life is life is life,
- 51:35Speaker 4: and I know we've all been through, you know, points
- 51:38Speaker 4: in our life where we all get thrown curveballs, no
- 51:40Speaker 4: matter who you are. And so I put that song
- 51:42Speaker 4: out just to let people know that, you know, I'm
- 51:46Speaker 4: a real human. I'm not just a you know, a
- 51:47Speaker 4: face on the screen or just some just some guy
- 51:51Speaker 4: up on stage. Like you know, I I go through things.
- 51:54Speaker 4: I've been through things all through my life that are
- 51:57Speaker 4: highs and lows, and I song right through them. I
- 52:00Speaker 4: always have and I always will.
- 52:01Speaker 1: How is it being that vulnerable over your own lyrics
- 52:05Speaker 1: when you're essentially giving it to an audience for them
- 52:07Speaker 1: to evaluate whether it's good or not.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I think you just have to let
- 52:13Speaker 4: go at some point, you know, I think you just
- 52:15Speaker 4: have to be just work hard on it. Man. You
- 52:18Speaker 4: get it to a point where you're like, Okay, I'm
- 52:20Speaker 4: proud of myself I sing as good as I could.
- 52:23Speaker 4: The musicians kicked ass on this. It sounds amazing, NIX
- 52:27Speaker 4: sounds great, it's thumping, you know, depending on the song,
- 52:30Speaker 4: whatever it may be. But there's a point where you're
- 52:33Speaker 4: you have no control about how people are going to
- 52:35Speaker 4: react good, bad in between. They hate it whatever, they
- 52:39Speaker 4: love it if it explodes, you know. So you have
- 52:43Speaker 4: to as an artist because dude, I could still be
- 52:45Speaker 4: working on this record and fine tuning it and drive yourself,
- 52:50Speaker 4: you know, and like, oh I wrote another song, let's
- 52:51Speaker 4: add to it like I can. You could do that
- 52:53Speaker 4: for days, you know what I'm saying. So there comes
- 52:55Speaker 4: a point where you have to really just like, Okay,
- 52:57Speaker 4: this thing's done. Whatever happens happens. I hope it's positive.
- 53:00Speaker 4: I hope. I hope it's great. I hope it helps
- 53:02Speaker 4: my career. I hope it continues to build my fan base.
- 53:05Speaker 4: I hope they can relate to it.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Yeah, But being this your second solo album, what is
- 53:11Speaker 1: the feeling of going into the second one as opposed
- 53:13Speaker 1: to going into the front like the first solo album
- 53:16Speaker 1: after FGL, like playing stadiums all that. Yeah, now you're
- 53:20Speaker 1: in a solo act and you're putting out the first album,
- 53:22Speaker 1: but the same nerves still they are putting this one
- 53:24Speaker 1: out that comes out Friday.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess a little bit.
- 53:28Speaker 2: You know.
- 53:28Speaker 4: I just think of these the two projects that I
- 53:31Speaker 4: have so differently, you know, like it was all fun
- 53:34Speaker 4: in Games and it was it was such a passion
- 53:36Speaker 4: project and such a release for me to put time
- 53:40Speaker 4: and time into songwriting and making that first record Sunshine
- 53:44Speaker 4: State of Mind. Obviously COVID weird times is like, yeah,
- 53:48Speaker 4: I'm writing songs, man like that that helps me. And
- 53:50Speaker 4: so uh, this time this go around, you know, we
- 53:53Speaker 4: don't have any FGL dates on the books, Like there's
- 53:55Speaker 4: no foreseeable future for for the group, and so I
- 54:00Speaker 4: consider Tennessee Truth, you know, my debut record. There's you know,
- 54:03Speaker 4: it's the first. It's the first project where I'm standing
- 54:08Speaker 4: as a as a solo artist with a career, not
- 54:12Speaker 4: just trying to have an extra outlet that doesn't compete
- 54:15Speaker 4: with f g L if that makes sense. So, like
- 54:19Speaker 4: I said, man, everything along along the way from me
- 54:22Speaker 4: has been methodical and very intentional and trying to be
- 54:26Speaker 4: as respectful to the fans and the brand that we
- 54:30Speaker 4: built as as as much as I could.
- 54:33Speaker 1: What first off, Tennessee truth is a dope name.
- 54:35Speaker 4: That's a minute you said almost named it Tennessee tone.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Tennessee tone, truth made.
- 54:44Speaker 4: Wanes, It's truth.
- 54:46Speaker 1: You're right sweety stairs at a paper for three hours,
- 54:50Speaker 1: just walks that one keeps walking over writing songs. When
- 54:56Speaker 1: did you find that passion as a kid as you
- 54:59Speaker 1: got older? Like what made you know that? Oh shit,
- 55:01Speaker 1: I can I got like doing this? Only do I
- 55:04Speaker 1: like doing this? This can be something for me?
- 55:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it would be. I mean I started writing poems
- 55:12Speaker 4: like in high school, freehand, like trying to figure out
- 55:15Speaker 4: if I could turn it into a song. You know,
- 55:17Speaker 4: it's like right before I started playing guitar. But I
- 55:19Speaker 4: remember like writing out like lyrics or words, and I
- 55:22Speaker 4: always like poems growing up. And my dad loves like
- 55:25Speaker 4: little sayings and poems and he'll make things rhyme, and like,
- 55:29Speaker 4: you know, I was always the guy looking up songwriters
- 55:31Speaker 4: and the you know, CD covers and like oh snap,
- 55:34Speaker 4: that's Craig Wismer, that's Jeffrey Steele, or that's you know,
- 55:39Speaker 4: Tony Ratta. All you know, I was very in the
- 55:42Speaker 4: know of what a songwriter was, and you know, got
- 55:46Speaker 4: a guitar when I was about sixteen years old at
- 55:48Speaker 4: a flea market with my dad. And uh, it didn't
- 55:51Speaker 4: start hitting heavy till freshman year at Florida State. You know,
- 55:55Speaker 4: I was writing songs during class, like I didn't need
- 55:57Speaker 4: to party.
- 55:58Speaker 1: What's that between party Florida State?
- 56:01Speaker 4: You know, you know, surprising shock her. I really didn't
- 56:03Speaker 4: party at Florida State.
- 56:04Speaker 1: But you have a gold chain on that has a
- 56:06Speaker 1: bass on it, you party number one?
- 56:09Speaker 4: It's a tarpin.
- 56:11Speaker 1: Disrespect. You know.
- 56:12Speaker 4: I did more worship leading at Florida State than partying.
- 56:15Speaker 1: Really, Oh yeah, no ship, Yeah, all right, that's nothing
- 56:21Speaker 1: but the Tennessee truth right there.
- 56:24Speaker 4: No, I really, I really didn't. I really didn't partake
- 56:28Speaker 4: and uh at Florida State for my two years there.
- 56:31Speaker 1: That is wild. So Florida State is when you found like, okay,
- 56:34Speaker 1: this is what I want.
- 56:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I couldn't. I couldn't stop thinking about songs and
- 56:37Speaker 4: I'd get a title that pop in my head and
- 56:39Speaker 4: class and like at that point, I didn't even need
- 56:40Speaker 4: a guitar. I could write out the lyrics, I could
- 56:42Speaker 4: hear how it could go. I'd get home, get my guitar,
- 56:45Speaker 4: put it on my little you know, I had a little,
- 56:47Speaker 4: uh little shitty recording program my roommate had given me
- 56:51Speaker 4: so I could get it down, so I like could
- 56:53Speaker 4: have it forever and remember that, you know, you.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Still have it.
- 56:58Speaker 4: No, it was on my old Dell computer. I have
- 57:00Speaker 4: no freaking idea where it was a block, man, I
- 57:04Speaker 4: mean it was it was, it was a block. I
- 57:06Speaker 4: have no idea. I mean it may be in a
- 57:08Speaker 4: storage unit. I've looked for it.
- 57:13Speaker 1: That's mine. Give it back.
- 57:15Speaker 2: But obviously you're you're a natural writer. But get like
- 57:18Speaker 2: you were saying earlier, this you feel like this is
- 57:20Speaker 2: your debut solo album. What what is this album you
- 57:24Speaker 2: know mean to you? And also like what have been
- 57:27Speaker 2: the learning curves with kind of getting back to the
- 57:30Speaker 2: basics even though you naturally are a writer, Like being
- 57:32Speaker 2: solo on your own.
- 57:34Speaker 4: This record means a lot to me. You know, it's
- 57:36Speaker 4: it's a songwriter's album. I'm so grateful for all the
- 57:39Speaker 4: collaborators and songwriters and being able to you know, mend
- 57:42Speaker 4: our worlds together and find something that we all love.
- 57:45Speaker 4: That that means a lot to me too, and that
- 57:47Speaker 4: hopefully you know, people that listen to it, they're like Yo,
- 57:49Speaker 4: that's my life too. It's a simple record, man, like
- 57:52Speaker 4: I love. You know, I have a song called bare
- 57:54Speaker 4: Feet or Boots, and that's the lifestyle I live. Man.
- 57:57Speaker 4: You know, like I love. I love being on the farm.
- 58:00Speaker 4: I love being in the woods. I love being at
- 58:02Speaker 4: the beach. I love being in the backwaters the lake.
- 58:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 58:05Speaker 4: I you know my morals and the way that I
- 58:08Speaker 4: operate or you know, God, family, country, and I love
- 58:11Speaker 4: working hard. I love having something to look forward to,
- 58:14Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Just like the people that
- 58:17Speaker 4: are going to be listening to this man, you know,
- 58:18Speaker 4: my world revolves around you know, working hard, my wife,
- 58:22Speaker 4: creating time for us to make new memories. And you know,
- 58:27Speaker 4: like what's what's biting? All right? Well, we're actually in Florida.
- 58:31Speaker 4: I'm checking my bass, you know, app I'm hitting some
- 58:33Speaker 4: of the locals. What are you know, snapper biting yet?
- 58:37Speaker 4: Snapper season? How many? How many can we get? Now?
- 58:39Speaker 4: You know what's you know on my little trail cam?
- 58:42Speaker 4: You know, oh damn, there's a turkey, there's a deer.
- 58:44Speaker 4: You know, that's it's a It's a pretty simple life
- 58:49Speaker 4: that you know, I know we've come from, you know,
- 58:52Speaker 4: stadiums and arenas and all these things. But when you
- 58:55Speaker 4: strip it down, you know, me and Brittany are really simple, man,
- 58:58Speaker 4: Like our favorite nights are. You know, I've had quite
- 59:02Speaker 4: a few Friday nights at the house, you know, since
- 59:05Speaker 4: starting his solo career and writing for the record. You know,
- 59:08Speaker 4: I really wasn't on the road. I was home a
- 59:10Speaker 4: lot writing and so we had a lot of free
- 59:12Speaker 4: you know, weekends and Friday nights. It's like, yo, dogs
- 59:15Speaker 4: are hanging out, We're cooking some meals and I'm watching
- 59:18Speaker 4: freaking twenty twenty. You know what I'm saying, Like, I
- 59:21Speaker 4: love that.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Well, there's a vacancy out there. I don't know if
- 59:24Speaker 1: you heard, but the great Toby Keith just passed. And
- 59:26Speaker 1: when you hit me with a god Family Country thought
- 59:29Speaker 1: he could be the next to Keith. You should be
- 59:31Speaker 1: the next guy red solo Cup.
- 59:33Speaker 2: You tell you just one to get into some twenty twenty.
- 59:35Speaker 2: I've never watched. I've never binged that shit.
- 59:38Speaker 4: I'm gonna help solve a crime one day. Oh you,
- 59:40Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that guy, it's happening.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Those shows are incredible.
- 59:44Speaker 4: It may be a cold case, it may be a
- 59:45Speaker 4: current you know, new one I'm.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Freaking the murder mystery stuff. Dude.
- 59:50Speaker 1: I had to sit in a deposition the last two days,
- 59:53Speaker 1: no way, and uh, just hearing these lawyers talk, I
- 59:57Speaker 1: found out there's no way I could help you a lawyer.
- 59:59Speaker 1: We we would go in and they would just be
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: talking back and forth, and then we'd go into a
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: room and I'm like, Okay, tell me everything that just happened.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Because you're literally like a six year old watching like
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: cloud out lists or something like that, not even able
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: to register how smart these individuals are. So all that
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: to be said, I would never be able to solve
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: a case. It ain't happening for me. Brother, I'm not
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: putting anybody in jail.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Important question for you. Are you a beach or a
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: lake guy? Oh?
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he did because you heard your name the Yeah,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: this is.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: A big one on the bus.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: You know our place in Florida. We don't live on
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: the beach. We live like right off the beach. We
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: live on a coastal dune leg so pretty special little
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: spot kind of surrounded by the state park. So honestly,
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: really both because the stand and pick one, you have
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: to well, look, we all enjoy you know what I'm saying,
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: so what do.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: You enjoy more?
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: If you had to pick on activity, you got one
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: more day at the beach house, you your kids are
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: sitting there. It's split fifty fifty down the middle. You
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: can either go sand ocean waves life, sea life, or
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: you can go over here, woods, boat, wakeboarding, those types
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: of things. Which one are you picking?
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: Man, If it's going as what we call down in
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: Greaton beach. If it's going off in Greaton, which means
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: the golf is laid down, freaking teal blues. Look, it
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: looks like a lake. It's flat, weather's freaking popping. We're
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: going to beach day. We're getting the truck out there,
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: we can drive on the beach. I'm getting all my coolers,
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: I'm getting my umbrellas, I'm getting my chairs. We're having
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: a beach freaking safari. That's how that's I've had some
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: of my best days doing that with Brittany and some
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: of our friends. We have a lot of local friends.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: And I mean just watching the day go by. I mean,
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: and and once you get out there, I mean like
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: some days you can get out there and it's just
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: like a vibe day. But some days, you know, you
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: can fish right off the beach. Stick your pole in.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: You may not catch anything if they're not biting. But
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: just lots of activities.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: You know, there's ane.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: Put the stand up paddle boards on the top of
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: the truck, get them out to the beach, go out
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: in the gulf. I mean, I knew we get there, bro,
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: I got you. I can take you on.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: I think the beach guy, he's becoming more of the
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: beach guy.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: I did say the better day is a perfect beach
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: day based on this where we're at in the Bahamas,
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: I mean, it was fucking where we name a couple
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: of spots? Is it?
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: Where is it like a discovery property?
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: I don't even know what that means. It was nice,
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: it was it was in a nice spot. Nice Was
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: it a zooma? I think at zooma? Damn it a
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: nice spot. And they're like I was telling JP, we
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: went out there on the boat one day and you
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: you like pulled up on a sand dune and the
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: water is like this high on your shin and you're
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: just out like in the middle of the water on
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: a sand dune and it was yours running around like
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: it was. It was one of the things where he says,
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: teal blue flat. Nothing going on here, I said, I said,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: the best beach day and vibe has beats best the
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: best lake day vibe. But as far as average, what
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: I like to do the majority of my time, I
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: think a lake. I'm a lake boy.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: That's how will works. You gotta it's a slow It's
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: been like a three year conversation, this lake versus beach saying,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: it's been like a three and slowly. I'm a beach guy.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I think the culture of a beach. You walk around literally,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: you could be as stress as you possibly could be
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: in your entire life. The minute you step put your
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: toes in the sand and you're looking at the water
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: and you just see people just relaxing and knowing that
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I might have problems but not today. That is what
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: a beach brings.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: That sounds like sowriter.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: You're welcome, so you can have that.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: You can know what I'm thinking at point.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: That's mine.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: We should do a little beach trip. Okay, y'all come down.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: We could do one more pod, have some fun right
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: on the beach and then just kind.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Of that could are we going to be on a boat?
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: We could?
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Bro, Yeah, I'm just saying, you know, a big boat guy,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: big boat guy.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we like to walk around it and press
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: the buttons.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: A superhero like flying at the tip.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: I got you great and beach. You can launch the
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: captain's launch to go fishing right off the beach. They
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: backed their boats up, PLoP them out, and you don't
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: got to go far to catch fish.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Then we come back to get your tarping down.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: We can all have chance at the end. I know
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: that thing does go hard, though. I know I chirped
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: it a little bit, but I kind of I kind
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: of mess with it, you know, dude.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: I got this from I've made some really good friends
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: in Grand Junction, Colorado. It's a it's a family jeweler,
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: three generations, and the son, the younger son, does a
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: lot of cool free form gold work. I was there
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: in person years ago on a tour stop. I wandered
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: in there, found a really cool ring and we kept
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: a relationship every since. They've sent me some free things
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: that they've made for me and Brittany, and then I
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: bought some stuff from them and I just was like, man,
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: can you make a tarpin with like a little diamond
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: eye and yeah, you know, just something something cool. And
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: he's like, hell, yeah, can I bring it to you
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: at your at your All show in Vegas. I'm like yeah.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: He's like, man like, I'm not gonna mail it, but
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: can I come to the show and drop it off.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I'm like, buddy, yeah, that's a good trade off.
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: Yeah. So I'm good buddies with them. They're great people.
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: They're living the American dream, working hard, making some really
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: cool pieces. Man's and their family tradition.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: That when it's all said and done, you decide to
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: hang up the guitar.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: Where do you?
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Where do you see your life? Even be at that
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: beach house? Twenty four to seven? You head West Coast?
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: What you gonna do?
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Uh? Not the West Coast. I do love. I do
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: love the West Coast. I think there's some great spots,
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: but for you full not full time, not like not
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: full time. I mean I definitely love That's that's nice.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Arizona.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: You know, I could see. I love where we're at
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: in Florida. I mean I don't I don't ever imagine
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: us really leaving there. I could see I have a
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: vision of like a you know, kind of an old
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: Florida farm maybe maybe more like Central Florida, you know,
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: like ranch style. I have an idea to h you know,
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: open this thing where it's like it's called Good Shepherd Ranch.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: So we have German shepherds. We have four love shepherds.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: But basically it'd be like, you know, try to find
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: a good deal on a bunch of acreage, have a
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: little house there, and be able to you know, rehabilitate shepherds,
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: take shepherds in that need a home, maybe foster some
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: raise some up. And then I think it'd be really
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: cool too. Man. There's kind of another element that I've
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: really been kind of thinking about lately to where you know,
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: maybe maybe some kids that don't have a family system
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: that something like I grew up and I'm very grateful
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: for my mom and dad and and you know, maybe
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: that's something they could come to Good Shepherd Ranch and
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: we can work with dogs, kind of some dog therapy
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: and that you know, maybe I can rub off on
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: them a little bit in terms of like whatever they're
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: going through and how to deal with things and how
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: to you know, maybe maybe some life advice or some
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: if they want to get into music, maybe there's a
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: little studio on the property, but something that's something that's
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: kind of, you know, giving back, and also that has
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: a lot of dogs on it.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: You love inside dogs.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: Yeah, they are.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: It's shutters.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: It's their house shutters.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Big time.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: You let them on the couch, you let them look
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: your face.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Oh yeah, man, only two of them, the sisters. Man,
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: if they've been outside, you better watch it. You'll smell
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: it before it comes. But they they they like to
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: eat the poop poo.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: You got two boy dogs, two girl dogs, one.
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: Boy, three girls. But we have sisters, littermates smoking sage
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: and for some reason.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Smoke Smoke can't stand her.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Yeah, she's the worst kind of dog husky wife, good
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: shepherd ranch. Man, Yes, she could go and I'll.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Just forget to Tail would love good shepherd ranch.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah. The whole time you're talking, I'm thinking of myself.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Tailing is going to hear this.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Taylor was into it and then you started mentioning fostering
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: and he just started to have like PTSD.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Dude, I'm looking after bunnies right now.
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: I would I wouldn't know what to do with bunnies.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Dude.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: My wife, she's trying to be a wildlife rehabilitationist. Or
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: whatever it is. She's like getting certified for it sounds
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: cool on paper. And then we get four bunnies because
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: he tells me that, I'm like, bro, if we can
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: get a raccoon or like a baby skunk, that would
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: be hype.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: A baby skunk.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Yes, dude, they don't get their they don't get their
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: smell thing until like two years old, so they kind
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: of just chill and hang out. And I'm thinking, we're
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: gonna get some dope animals. I think they'll bunnies over
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: at us. We got bunnies. I got two of them
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: that just sit outside, hang out. They bite or they
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: know they're like they're literally, dude, they're this bag. They're
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: this bag, and I have to bottle feed them every night,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: every night and every morning. And it just pissed right
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: because it's some time with my wife being like, honey,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I want to do something, Yeah, you go ahead and
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: do that. I love that and I support you whatever
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: you want to deal. But then one night, kids have
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: a hard night. I come downstairs. I'm ready for bed.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: If I'm a guy, like the minute the kids go
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: to sleep, I'm trying to get to sleep by nine thirty.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: If I get to sleep by nine thirty. My life's
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: gonna be great the next day. And that's really all
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I'm thinking about. Same and she's it's like nine to fifteen.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: She's like, I gotta feed the monies. That's an hour. Okay,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: that's an hour of my life that I got to now.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Luckily they're getting older.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: So she says that, what do you say. You're like, damn,
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: that sucks.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: No, No, you know me, dude, I fucking bend the
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: knee quick quick.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: I mean I have an attitude. I have like a
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: teenage attitude, and that I go and do what I'm
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: supposed to be doing. I have a bad attitude and
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: then I do it.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Just kind of stop around, go to bed, kind of man.
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: Good Shepherd Ranch sounds like it could be what we
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: talked about the ranch, or it could be like it's
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: like total Hallmark movie. Yeah, good Shepherd Ranch.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: I could see the sunset.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's like this crazy He meets a city
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: girl exactly, they don't belong together, exactly, maybe steal something
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: from her, steals her purse, runs over to the guy.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: That's how they meet. Dog's cute, he's cuter. What's gonna happen.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: Damn, the boy will just get going now, like to
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: create an entire movie.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: I do enjoy living in my own head. What my
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: wife wants to do. She wants to get a farm
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: and then have a grocery store attached to the farm
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: and everything comes from there. It's like her next dream
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: that she wants to do.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: Which I is that what it is?
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's a slaughterhouse.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Slaughterhouse?
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Yah.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Ours is kind of like a like we would have
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: to like ninja smoke them, like go to the cat
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: slaughterhouse and then just you know, get them down.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: Yeah, probably do that, not that.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we're trying to precureus a couple of things. Yeah yeah.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: She Uh Bar three Studios, she's a franchise operation. She's
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: manager for Bar three. It's like a boutique fitness nice.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: It's like Taylor toward women. It's like Pilates group fitness
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: type of vibe. And uh, she's been in that industry.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: She's been with that company for a while now and
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: a couple there's an opportunity that popped up in Nashville.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: That's right now. We are in the in the middle
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: of trying to Oh she would like to be a
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: business owner.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: Hell yeah, it's awesome.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, get that. What's up?
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Let me get it on it, Taylor.
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: I got a question for you.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: So when you see when you do these ice baths,
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: So say you're you're in Vegas. I've seen you do
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: ice baths in Vegas when you're out there, you know,
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: playing blackjack and stuff. For some reason, I can't wrap
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: my head around because it's in the hotel room, the
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: ice bath, right where does how do you how do
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: they get the water out in the hotel room.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: That's the best part about Red Rock. I don't know, dude.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Red Rock is the greatest like hospitality place I've ever
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: been in my entire life. I've been to BlackBerry farms,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I've been to really nice places. The hospitality of Red
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Rock is second to none. I told them one time,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: hey be cool to have a cold tub in my room.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: The next time I came there, there's a cold tub.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: They refeel the ice. I spill everywhere. I don't claim
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: it right myself. I'm a dirty boy. And then I
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: come in. Everything's cleaned up, car, car, everywhere. It's it's unreal.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: So I don't have it's.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Nuts too an answer, I'm curious.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: You get into black jack when you're out there in Vegas.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: I love that's that's really all I play. Really, Yeah,
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: I love black jack chaos due. I really enjoy it. Yeah,
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: I've had some good nights in Vegas. Nothing crazy. I
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: know there's like some other country artists that go freaking
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: ham and that that they'll bet like a ton ton.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: I'm pretty conservative when it comes to you.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Know, hy vibe.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: I made some pretty good money, but like I kind
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: of I kind of start slow and then you know,
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: I kind of I'm a I'm a feel guy, so
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: like if I can kind of I get that from
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: my dad too. You kind of feel what you're gonna get,
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: you know. It's like if I feel like I'm about
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: to get hot, like I'm a double down, double down.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: You figure out, figure out what you're gonna do.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: But what's been your best trip? How much? Yeah? How
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: much you leave with?
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: Probably fourteen k not like I know, y'all, y'all y'all
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: go with Dana.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: And you know, yeah, but that's a cheap, like fourteen.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: Going home with fourteen is amazing.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, when you're when I started.
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: With like shoot, I started with like five or six hundred.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: That's just hit bro, just that, and.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: Then I'm like, all right, I can tell this ship's
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: getting cold. I'm rolling.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Really that's my problem.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: I feel like Jackal hits some looks like that. I
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: think a few hundred and turn it into a few thousand.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Yep there, Yeah, jack Will go crazy something.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: Man. It's a fun game when you got people you know,
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: you know, and you have a have a drink whatever. Yeah,
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: and it's like, I just I love that game. I
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: really do.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: We would do on line trips and Will came on
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: one one year and it was like five of us
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: sitting at the table, two or three guys standing behind,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: just drinking drinks, all kind of like talking each other
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: into betting a little bit more while so fe scared. Yeah,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: run the balls one hundred dollars, like, oh hey, we're
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: throwing a hail Mary five hundred here on this one.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: And the boys just win or lose together. It's awesome.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: The world Will that I have gotten into has kind
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: of been. It's a little it's much more scarier, there's
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: a lot more room for error. It's often you all
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: go there. I try to go every month, No, I
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: try to go every single month, like truly have a
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: I have like I have such an addictive personality and
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: the minute I saw that this was possible, and then
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: when I start to lose, how Danna kind of just
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: saves me, like I'm a kid. It's no, there's no
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: reason to never go there. It's it's ridiculous.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: Well, hopefully we end up in Vegas together, because I'd
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: love to play with y'all.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you you go to you take us
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: to Florida. We hit that beach day. We have no
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: choice but to get you to Vegas. Man, that sounds
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: like a good deal.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: I don't know what you're doing. June twenty sixth, but
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: you could come watch the Beer Games Championships of the World.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: That's the problem. Well, June twenty fifth, June twenty fifth,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: that's what Big Cat was talking about.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: June twenty fifth. It's on a Tuesday.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: You should actually come June twenty Yeah, June twenty.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Fourth, June twenty fourth, some more game one.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, So we're doing the Tunnel of Chaos. We have
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: a big party in the high Roller Room of Red Rock,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: and then it's gonna be like food, drinks, people gambling whatever,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: a little tunnel where there's gonna be one table with
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: just one betting platform, where that's a tunnel of chaos.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: You it'll be. It's gonna be a nuts time.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: Geld you the info.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a Monday. Yeah, it's a Monday because we
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: it's all tailored around people that are kind of in
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: your category, who are like travel Thursday to Sunday.
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and so we want everybody to kind of come
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: and have their schedule be as open as possible.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Cool. Yeah, what uh? What can we look forward to
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: this year after the album drops tomorrow? Oh?
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Man, I got some I got some festivals this summer.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: I'm really excited about that. I already played Tortuga a
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: couple of weeks back. That was like an awesome festival
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: right on the beach. Very fitting, uh for for what
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: I do, and I think I'm gonna bring back. I
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: did this in twenty twenty two. I did like a
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: mini residency. I did probably twenty six twenty seven shows.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: But we have a little surf shop we own down
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: in Grayton where we live, and we kind of converted
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: the backyard space into a little concert venue and so real,
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: real intimate maybe two hundred people max a night, So
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: I'm gonna do probably, I think right now we've got
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: it at twelve shows, you know, a couple in June,
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: couple in July. So really looking forward to that, man.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: I know, I know the fans that came the first
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: time had a great time, and it's kind of a
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: power acoustic set but really casual, really intimate, really stripped down,
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: and it's you know, I really loved it, man, because
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: you know, it was an experience that I was able
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: to create that didn't exist. You know, I think that
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: was that was that was really enjoyable too. You know,
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: I love playing all sorts of venues. I love you know,
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: it's fun to play go back and play small clubs.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: It's great to do that. Fun obviously to play big,
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: big you know arenas, amphitheaters all that, but to really
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: connect and you know, a two hundred person uh space, man,
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: is like, I don't know, I feel like I got
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: my chops up even more when I did that, man,
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: because you kind of put yourself in a position to
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: where it's so personable and personal that you've got people
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: there like, hey, play play this song. You're like sick,
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: all right, yeah, calling out something from the record that
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: maybe wasn't on the set list, but you're really able
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: to connect. And you know, that's what Brittany and I
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: love about, you know, being entrepreneurs and creating things is
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: like trying to figure out it's all about the experience,
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, and to offer something different
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: that doesn't exist really really gets us excited. And yeah,
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: so I'm excited about that. And then this fall probably
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: some more touring, trying to get the logistics locked down
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: for that. But that's awesome, man, I'm excited about I know,
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: I got obviously a record coming out, but I'm really
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: looking forward to getting back in the studio and writing
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: and seeing what what else we can come up with.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Is that A number one passion is the writing part.
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: Uh, it is. I mean, it's one of my main things.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: But I don't think I could have have it without
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: the other part, you know, Like I love writing and
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: grinding and thinking and brainstorming and figuring out the freaking
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: details of the song and the message of the song
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: and all that, even the production and love recording it,
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: but the whole, the whole thing of getting it out
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: on the road and playing playing live and doing that.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think I could have one without
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: the other.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: That's awesome, man. Yeah, we appreciate you coming on.
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: I appreciate you.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: And open, being honest and having a little fun too.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Yeah, damn good time.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: I appreciate the platform, and I thank y'all for answering
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: the call and getting me on here, and I really
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: appreciate it. Yeah, man, thanks for thanks for being open,
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: being being willing to hear you know, my side and
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: my experience, and hopefully for everybody listening. You know, I
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: hope that has given some clarity.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, man, before we get out of here, going, I
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: know you already talks about it. I plugged that new
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: album real quick.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: Truth.
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: Check out Tennessee Truth. It's a good time, and uh
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: it's all about up a living, working hard, playing harder,
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: and uh loving who you love. I hope you, uh
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: hope y'all can make it the soundtrack to your summer
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: and maybe your fall too. And I hope it. Hope
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: these songs mean something to you, that mean a lot
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: to me, and I hope you can figure out a
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: way to put them in your everyday life, whether that's
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: headed to work, or on the lake, on the beach, whatever.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Tennessee truth is dropping tomorrow, which.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Is what's the deal on?
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: Thank you? May tenth, May night eighth, what's Friday?
