  Friends who shape your story. There's a phrase that's been
• 0:16
  said so many times it almost lost its meaning, but it's still
• 0:20
  completely true. You become like the people you
• 0:22
  spend the most time with. Your habits, your language, your
• 0:26
  values, your ambitions, even your faith, all of it is quietly
• 0:30
  shaped by who you're doing life with.
• 0:32
  That's not scary. It's just true.
• 0:35
  And it means that choosing your friends is one of the most
• 0:38
  important decisions you'll ever make.
• 0:41
  Proverbs chapter 18, verse 24 cuts right to it.
• 0:45
  A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a
• 0:49
  friend who sticks closer than a brother.
• 0:51
  Having a lot of people around you isn't the same as having
• 0:54
  real friendship. Popularity is not the same as
• 0:58
  loyalty. Some of the loneliest people
• 1:00
  have the most followers. What the human soul actually
• 1:04
  needs is that rare kind of friend, the one who shows up
• 1:07
  when things fall apart, who tells you the truth even when
• 1:10
  it's uncomfortable, who actually sticks.
• 1:13
  First Samuel chapter 29 gives us an unexpected illustration of
• 1:18
  this. David found himself in a
• 1:20
  complicated situation aligned with the Philistines in a way
• 1:25
  that could have forced him to fight against his own people,
• 1:27
  Israel. And in First Samuel chapter 29,
• 1:31
  verses 4 and 5, the Philistine commanders actually intervened
• 1:36
  and sent David away from the battle.
• 1:38
  His companions urged him to leave, essentially protecting
• 1:42
  him from a situation that would have put him in an impossible
• 1:45
  position. Sometimes the protection of a
• 1:48
  true friend looks like them steering you away from
• 1:50
  something, even when it's inconvenient, even when it
• 1:54
  creates friction, even when you don't fully understand why
• 1:58
  they're pushing back. That's not betrayal.
• 2:01
  That's loyalty that looks further down the road than you
• 2:04
  can see in the moment. The flip side of receiving that
• 2:07
  kind of friendship is being that kind of friend.
• 2:11
  Being the person in someone else's life who says the hard
• 2:14
  thing, who doesn't just go along to get along, who cares enough
• 2:18
  about your friend's future to risk your present comfort for
• 2:21
  it. That's rare, and it's worth
• 2:24
  intentionally cultivating. It means being honest when
• 2:28
  honesty is needed, even when it's easier to just agree.
• 2:32
  It means showing up when things are messy, not just when things
• 2:35
  are fun. It means praying for your
• 2:37
  friends, not just hanging out with them.
• 2:40
  And here's the anchor under all of this.
• 2:43
  The verse doesn't just tell you to find good friends.
• 2:46
  It points toward the friend who sticks closer than any brother,
• 2:49
  because ultimately, no human friendship, no matter how good,
• 2:54
  can fully carry the weight of what our souls need.
• 2:56
  God's friendship is the foundation.
• 2:59
  Human friendship is the gift that flows out of it.

  Build your circle carefully, Be the kind of friend you want to
• 3:06
  have, and root all of it in the One who never leaves.

  Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 3:15
  the gift of friendship and for being the friend who sticks
• 3:18
  closer than anyone. Help us to choose our close
• 3:20
  relationships wisely, to recognize the people who
• 3:24
  genuinely want what's best for us, and to be that kind of
• 3:27
  friend to others. In return, give us the courage
• 3:30
  to speak truth in love and the loyalty to show up when things
• 3:34
  are hard. Root all our friendships in you,
• 3:37
  in Jesus name, Amen. What if the night was never

  meant to be ruled by fear, but covered by the presence and

  these years? I have found no fault in him

  since he fell away until today, but the Princess of the

  Philistines were angry with him, and the Princess of the

  Philistines said to him, make the man return.

  That he may go back. To his place where you have

  appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest

  in the battle he become an adversary to us.

  For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his Lord?

  Should it not be with the heads of these men?

  Isn't this David, of whom people sang to one another in dances,

  saying, Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten
• 6:04
  thousands? Then a chish called David and
• 6:07
  said to him, As Yahweh lives, you have been upright, and

  you're going out, and you're coming in with me.
• 6:13
  And the army is good in my sight.
• 6:15
  For I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to
• 6:18
  me. To this day, nevertheless, the
• 6:21
  Lords don't favor you. Therefore now return and go in
• 6:24
  peace, that you not displease the Lords of the Philistines.
• 6:28
  David said to Achish. But what have I done?
• 6:31
  What have you found in your servants so long as I have been
• 6:34
  before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the
• 6:37
  enemies of my Lord the King? Achish answered David, I know
• 6:42
  that you are good in my sight as an Angel of God.
• 6:46
  Notwithstanding the Princess of the Philistines have said he
• 6:49
  shall not go up with us to the battle.
• 6:51
  Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of
• 6:55
  your Lord who have come with you, and as soon as you are up
• 6:58
  early in the morning and have light, depart.

  So David rose up early, he and his men to depart in the morning
• 7:05
  to return into the land of the Philistines, And the Philistines
• 7:09
