Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: He's been an All Star Silver suger. He is the
- 0:12Speaker 1: RBI leader for the Twins this season. Josh Bell joining
- 0:15Speaker 1: us right now in foul Territory. Josh, great to have
- 0:17Speaker 1: you on man, Thanks for joining us, and you have
- 0:18Speaker 1: been fun this season.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, thanks for having me. Guys, Jay, good
- 0:23Speaker 2: to see you. What's going on. Yeah, it's been a
- 0:29Speaker 2: fun ride. Finally warmed up. You got to get through
- 0:33Speaker 2: Rapel and May and everyone was like, oh yeah, just
- 0:35Speaker 2: get to the summer. The summers are beautiful. It's like
- 0:37Speaker 2: ninety eight degrees right here. So it's been it's been top.
- 0:40Speaker 2: But the boys are heating up too, so hopefully we
- 0:43Speaker 2: can go into this trade deadline with the winning record
- 0:46Speaker 2: and b adders.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Man, First off, boy JB, appreciate you being on
- 0:53Speaker 3: the show. Good to see you. Man. Before we get started, too,
- 0:56Speaker 3: I want to tell you congrats on ten years. I
- 0:58Speaker 3: know how special that is. I see you just got
- 1:00Speaker 3: that and with that man, this Minnesota team obviously it's
- 1:06Speaker 3: your first year. Possible there next year as well, but
- 1:10Speaker 3: just want to get with being ten years in being
- 1:13Speaker 3: at VET presence, What what has it been like? You know,
- 1:15Speaker 3: you've been Pittsburgh you've been d C now here in Minnesota,
- 1:20Speaker 3: you've been in Cleveland. What do you feel is the
- 1:24Speaker 3: biggest thing here because obviously you guys, I think of
- 1:26Speaker 3: one game behind Cleveland. You need some guys that are,
- 1:28Speaker 3: you know, kind of being banged up a little bit
- 1:30Speaker 3: being at vet presence. What obviously, what has it been
- 1:33Speaker 3: like being on the other side, because at one point
- 1:35Speaker 3: you were that young fresh guy coming up helping the
- 1:37Speaker 3: team towards a playoff bush.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's just like a stability. I think
- 1:41Speaker 2: it's just understanding that there's going to be absence flows
- 1:44Speaker 2: in baseball. You're going to be you know, on top
- 1:46Speaker 2: of your game on every every ball you put in
- 1:49Speaker 2: play is going to be a hit, and then you're
- 1:51Speaker 2: going to find yourself on the other side of that.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Or it feels like you're lining out every game.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And you know, there's there's times you're walking up to
- 1:59Speaker 2: the player, we're like, man, like something's got to give here.
- 2:03Speaker 2: But just showing up to the baseball field with the
- 2:05Speaker 2: same mentality every day. Got to put the work in
- 2:08Speaker 2: to get better, got to find yourself in the weight
- 2:11Speaker 2: room multiple times a day to you know, stay ready
- 2:15Speaker 2: and just show the younger guys, how to you know,
- 2:17Speaker 2: be a professional, how to show up every.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Day and be the same guy.
- 2:21Speaker 2: If you can do that more times than not, you're
- 2:23Speaker 2: gonna find yourself coming out of these slumps and uh,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you know, getting back on a hot streak. So just
- 2:29Speaker 2: mean that that even killed presence in the in the clubhouse.
- 2:31Speaker 2: So I think goes a long way. And you know,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I learned that from you know, playing with you, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 2: playing with guys like you, like Sean Rodriguez, like you know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: David Freees obviously touch but guys like you and me,
- 2:43Speaker 2: you know, not MVPs. Uh not guys that have the
- 2:47Speaker 2: upside where it's like, oh man, if we go off,
- 2:49Speaker 2: we're gonna have you know, twelve hundred ops on the month,
- 2:52Speaker 2: you know, all summer long. But you know, best case
- 2:55Speaker 2: scenario for us, we might sniff a nine hundred and
- 2:58Speaker 2: nine to fifty one thousand, you know, a couple of
- 3:00Speaker 2: weeks at a time, get hot, let the team write us.
- 3:04Speaker 2: But for the most part, it's you know, letting the
- 3:06Speaker 2: young bucks, you know, do what they can do. And
- 3:10Speaker 2: you know the game is so much faster now, so
- 3:12Speaker 2: letting those young bucks fly out there, run around the bases,
- 3:15Speaker 2: try to drive them in as best I can.
- 3:17Speaker 3: That's what I was gonna ask you about because you
- 3:19Speaker 3: just said the games changed a lot, and obviously you
- 3:23Speaker 3: fit on. You know, playing with me Seana Riguez, David Freeze,
- 3:26Speaker 3: Cutch is one that I wanted to hit on just
- 3:27Speaker 3: from a standpoint, play with Cuts. Now you're playing with Buckston,
- 3:31Speaker 3: like two different you know, as you mentioned, the game
- 3:33Speaker 3: is different. You got a chance to play with two superstars, man,
- 3:37Speaker 3: and seeing Cutch up closer, now seeing Buckston up close, man, like,
- 3:41Speaker 3: are there any similarities that you see obviously two different guys,
- 3:44Speaker 3: but also like as far as the like how they
- 3:46Speaker 3: can change the game just in many ways.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's kind of like it's scary because when
- 3:53Speaker 2: I mean, obviously we've seen catch at like the top
- 3:55Speaker 2: of this game, I think he won Player the Month,
- 3:58Speaker 2: Like a July stretch where he had like a twelve
- 4:00Speaker 2: hundred ops was like every ball that he put in
- 4:03Speaker 2: play was a rocket somewhere. Every ball hitting the gap
- 4:06Speaker 2: was tracked down and if you were sleeping, you know
- 4:10Speaker 2: on the mound, he's gonna take second and third, Like
- 4:12Speaker 2: that's who Buckston is. But in the same light, like
- 4:17Speaker 2: Buckson is like, uh, I don't know. He runs like
- 4:21Speaker 2: it's like angrier. It's like it's a little it's like
- 4:24Speaker 2: he's cutting into the dirt. You can like hear his
- 4:26Speaker 2: cleats impact the dirt like Cutch was like a smoother
- 4:29Speaker 2: like a track star, like Buck is more of like
- 4:32Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know, they call him the Buck truck.
- 4:34Speaker 2: You know, he's like an eighteen wheeler coming uh kind
- 4:37Speaker 2: of got to get out of the way when he's
- 4:38Speaker 2: coming coming through. Uh so, Uh yeah, I mean very similar.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I think, you know, playing with Buckson now, he's one
- 4:45Speaker 2: of those guys where it's like if he can continue
- 4:48Speaker 2: to play at this level and stay healthy like he's
- 4:51Speaker 2: he's one of those guys where I feel like he's
- 4:53Speaker 2: no different than like the guys that I play with,
- 4:55Speaker 2: like Juan Soto, like uh, Jose Ramirez, like Manny Machado,
- 4:59Speaker 2: like just perennial All Star and then like you keep
- 5:03Speaker 2: doing this for a stretch of time, you start having
- 5:05Speaker 2: Hall of Fame conversations.
- 5:06Speaker 4: So he's definitely fun to watch.
- 5:14Speaker 5: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing Mack
- 5:16Speaker 5: Weldon right now. As we talk about a great brand
- 5:19Speaker 5: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 5:21Speaker 5: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 5:23Speaker 5: a little bit more about mack Weldon with my friend
- 5:26Speaker 5: Eric Kratz.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light. It's summertime right now. For
- 5:32Speaker 6: me though, they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally,
- 5:37Speaker 6: when I buy tall clothes, it's like something that's cumbersome
- 5:40Speaker 6: and boxy. It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect
- 5:45Speaker 6: for the summertime.
- 5:47Speaker 4: They got me all covered.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Comfortable performance material can be yours. Mac Weldon is the spot.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel as effortlessly cool
- 5:59Speaker 1: as you look at mac Weldon. Go to macweldon dot
- 6:01Speaker 1: com and get twenty percent off your first order of
- 6:03Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty five bucks or more with promo
- 6:05Speaker 1: code foul. That's m A C K W E L
- 6:07Speaker 1: d O N dot com code f o U L.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Josh.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Good seeing you man.
- 6:13Speaker 7: Thanks for being on Congress on ten years. That's awesome,
- 6:15Speaker 7: what a feat.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 6:17Speaker 7: I got a question for you, man, this is what
- 6:19Speaker 7: you're eighth team now in the past.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Six yes, seventh. Yeah, how's that been for you?
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:28Speaker 2: I mean, uh, I've had this conversation a few times.
- 6:31Speaker 2: When you first get drafted, you know, you go to
- 6:34Speaker 2: a team and then the summer sets in and you're
- 6:36Speaker 2: playing well, and like just like that, you go from
- 6:39Speaker 2: low A to Hyay, it's new clubhouse. Obviously back then
- 6:43Speaker 2: we're like living out of our cars, so we had
- 6:45Speaker 2: like one suitcase. So like I'm used to it, Like
- 6:49Speaker 2: I got called up virtually every year through the minor leagues,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, and then I had that four year stretch
- 6:56Speaker 2: with the Pirates, and then for the most part since then,
- 6:59Speaker 2: like halfway through the summer, it's like, okay, new team
- 7:02Speaker 2: padres from Cleveland to Miami, from Miami to Arizona. DC
- 7:08Speaker 2: was the first time since Pittsburgh, actually since the first
- 7:13Speaker 2: year in DC that I didn't get traded halfway through
- 7:15Speaker 2: the year. But for me, like I have a bat,
- 7:17Speaker 2: I will travel. You know, I'm down with the kidd
- 7:21Speaker 2: I's got three little ones. With wifey, you know, upright
- 7:24Speaker 2: into life, it's it's tough on her, but we have
- 7:27Speaker 2: more and more help. Grandparents can come by, my inlaws
- 7:30Speaker 2: can come by, and we got a nanny that has
- 7:32Speaker 2: started to travel with us, so it makes it a
- 7:34Speaker 2: lot easier but you know, there's nothing like you know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: postseason push. There's nothing like jumping up and down at
- 7:41Speaker 2: the end of the year, celebrating to win, celebrating the
- 7:44Speaker 2: postseason birth. So you know, whatever it takes to get there.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And it's fun because this is my first year where
- 7:49Speaker 2: you know, we're in the hunt and it seems like
- 7:54Speaker 2: we could be adders here in a week or so. So, uh,
- 7:57Speaker 2: you know, it's the first time that we're looking around
- 7:59Speaker 2: the club. I was like, okay, like we have the
- 8:01Speaker 2: pieces that we need, Like all we need is this
- 8:03Speaker 2: or that, and you know, we can continue to push forward.
- 8:07Speaker 7: With all that moving though. There's so there's a lot
- 8:09Speaker 7: of different voices because you got a lot of different
- 8:11Speaker 7: organizations and a lot of different hitting coaches and all that.
- 8:14Speaker 7: Are you Are you more of a guy? Are you
- 8:16Speaker 7: more of a hitter that just sort of just kind
- 8:19Speaker 7: of this is my routine, flip me, throw to me,
- 8:22Speaker 7: put the ball on the tee and I got it?
- 8:24Speaker 4: Or do you?
- 8:26Speaker 7: I mean, cause that's a lot of different voices. You've
- 8:27Speaker 7: been a pretty good model of consistency the last the
- 8:29Speaker 7: last few years. So what's your what's what's hitting like
- 8:33Speaker 7: for you? Are you a guy that you got to
- 8:35Speaker 7: got at home that you work with. Are you more
- 8:37Speaker 7: of a listen to your hitting coach or is it
- 8:39Speaker 7: more just you?
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a that's a good question. I think
- 8:44Speaker 2: I learned a lot the first time I got traded
- 8:46Speaker 2: mid season because I went from hitting like three thirty
- 8:49Speaker 2: three hundred within NATS, I get traded over San Diego
- 8:53Speaker 2: and I hit like one seventy up until the postseason.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Went off in the postseason, But that like adjustment period,
- 8:59Speaker 2: finding a routine. In DC, we had no hitters meetings,
- 9:02Speaker 2: like you did all your research on your own a
- 9:05Speaker 2: lot more in division plays, so I like knew, you
- 9:08Speaker 2: know what, guys with the Phillies, we're gonna throw me,
- 9:10Speaker 2: like what I'd like, how the Marlins we're gonna attack me.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Get over to San Diego and it's like hitters meeting
- 9:16Speaker 2: every day. Start learning about like spin rate, guys like vertical,
- 9:22Speaker 2: you know, induced for it. I'm like the first time
- 9:24Speaker 2: I'm hearing this, Like you know, you might see you
- 9:26Speaker 2: know here and there on Twitter on like pitching ninja,
- 9:28Speaker 2: like guys that are like eighteen twenty vert but like
- 9:31Speaker 2: you know, we're not, Like I was never a guy
- 9:34Speaker 2: that was like, okay, I have to miss above the
- 9:35Speaker 2: ball or like this is a cutter guy, like I
- 9:37Speaker 2: have to miss inside the ball. I was like, are
- 9:39Speaker 2: we trying to miss? Or like is that like an expression?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Like that was a learning curve for me. But as
- 9:45Speaker 2: a guy traded, you know, later on in my career,
- 9:48Speaker 2: I was like, Okay, this is your routine, Like this
- 9:51Speaker 2: is why you have success when you go to a
- 9:53Speaker 2: new team. Don't change the thing, like if you haven't
- 9:56Speaker 2: been paying attention in hitters meetings, like, don't often try
- 9:59Speaker 2: to change something now. Know, like the success that you've
- 10:01Speaker 2: had throughout the summer is gonna be sustained no matter
- 10:04Speaker 2: what jersey you have on in the future. So I
- 10:07Speaker 2: learned that in San Diego, and then when I got
- 10:09Speaker 2: traded from Cleveland to Miami, I had a lot more
- 10:12Speaker 2: success because I have my routine. The same thing went
- 10:15Speaker 2: for for Miami's Arizona. It felt like I didn't miss
- 10:18Speaker 2: a beat, you know, continue to hit home ers and whatnot,
- 10:21Speaker 2: drive to baseball. So yeah, it's uh, it's it's tough.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I mean obviously, like hitting coaches come and go. You know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: I've had some guys that you know, I feel like
- 10:29Speaker 2: I have a conversation and locks me in for you know,
- 10:31Speaker 2: four weeks, and then the same thoughts in the box
- 10:34Speaker 2: are like, you know, first pitch rollovers. No matter what
- 10:37Speaker 2: I do, it's like, man, it's the same feeling. But
- 10:40Speaker 2: body changes. You gotta, you know, adapt, you gotta you know,
- 10:43Speaker 2: kind of be like water out there and be malleable.
- 10:46Speaker 2: And uh, yeah, it's it's always you know, ebbs and flows.
- 10:50Speaker 2: But uh, for the most part, you know, it's as
- 10:52Speaker 2: long as I can stay healthy, I I can, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 2: do my best to impact the game.
- 10:57Speaker 7: She dropper Bruce Lee on us be water.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, So I'm gonna ask you something because you just
- 11:04Speaker 3: hit on all these adjustments you've made, and even difference
- 11:08Speaker 3: in information just from team to team, organization, organization. I
- 11:14Speaker 3: think I saw a stat in May of this year.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I think one hundred and eighty pitchers have thrown the
- 11:20Speaker 3: fastball ninety eight or harder like ten years ago. I
- 11:23Speaker 3: think it was only one hundred and sixty for the
- 11:26Speaker 3: whole season. And I talked to people about making adjustments
- 11:28Speaker 3: and how the game has changed, not only being faster
- 11:31Speaker 3: with the pitch clock and stuff, but the velocity and stuff.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Do you think everything that you just answered with has
- 11:38Speaker 3: allowed you to adjust to that by not changing, as
- 11:41Speaker 3: you said, what has worked for you in the past.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Obviously you tweak some things, but I mean that's a
- 11:45Speaker 3: big jump from ten years ago, you know, having one
- 11:49Speaker 3: hundred and sixty total guys a year as opposed to
- 11:52Speaker 3: just one hundred and eighty in one month. That's a
- 11:54Speaker 3: big jump.
- 11:55Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yesterday, we're playing a game and Spring comes out of
- 12:00Speaker 2: the game. Springs with the athletics, comes out in the
- 12:03Speaker 2: second inning with the like injury, right, so like we're
- 12:07Speaker 2: game planning. He's like a you know, my top out
- 12:09Speaker 2: at ninety two lefty and we're like, oh sick. We
- 12:12Speaker 2: get like a long relief guy, like this is good.
- 12:15Speaker 2: This is where you eat like as a hitter. And
- 12:17Speaker 2: he comes in it's like, you know, like ninety one
- 12:20Speaker 2: and we look up and we're like, oh, slider. And
- 12:24Speaker 2: then next pitch like ninety nine and we're like, oh,
- 12:27Speaker 2: like this this is like these are long guys now,
- 12:30Speaker 2: Like I remember, like, you know, you get a long guy,
- 12:34Speaker 2: it might be like you know, sinker down and away,
- 12:38Speaker 2: like you know, showing in fastballs in for effect. It's
- 12:41Speaker 2: never a strike and he's gonna go soft like down
- 12:43Speaker 2: and away, like take your double in the oppo gap.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Now it's like spin ray fastball, cut fastballs. You know,
- 12:50Speaker 2: everyone's trying to add cut to their fastball.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Everyone.
- 12:54Speaker 2: If it's not induced for it, it's gonna be cut. So,
- 12:58Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's definitely a different game. But if
- 13:00Speaker 2: you can find, you know, whatever routine that you can
- 13:03Speaker 2: have that will allow you to, you know, at least
- 13:07Speaker 2: block a fastball to not be a swing and misguy
- 13:10Speaker 2: on fastballs up in the zone. Like I think you
- 13:12Speaker 2: can play in this league. But you know, you see
- 13:14Speaker 2: young guys that can crush the slider get called up
- 13:18Speaker 2: and they swing through that fastball up over and over again.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Everyone's got it. Everyone's got a ninety five plus, especially
- 13:24Speaker 2: coming out of the pin ninety five plus, And if
- 13:28Speaker 2: you can't put that in play, then your career is
- 13:31Speaker 2: going to be really short.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Big second half of the season coming up. There might
- 13:36Speaker 5: be a hot ticket, a rivalry series, a sold out
- 13:40Speaker 5: experience they need to get your hands on, and Sea
- 13:43Speaker 5: Geek is the spot for that. You can find good
- 13:46Speaker 5: good pricing. They help you with the pricing. Green dot good,
- 13:49Speaker 5: red dot not as good and they help you with
- 13:52Speaker 5: your view of the seat for some big matchups coming

- 13:57Speaker 8: Why would you not use see geek if you want
- 13:59Speaker 8: to view from your seat, you want to know if
- 14:00Speaker 8: it's a good seat, if it's a good deal. It
- 14:03Speaker 8: has all of it on the app.
- 14:04Speaker 4: It's easy to use. It's one click boom.

- 14:21Speaker 5: with that promo cover running all season long, Territory one zero.
- 14:25Speaker 5: That's territory ten off your next set of MLB tickets

- 14:30Speaker 5: the description to download the app and have the code
- 14:32Speaker 5: automatically added to you account so you can use it later.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I can attest to just all of that.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Even when we were in DC, we really didn't have
- 14:40Speaker 3: like a full hitters meeting. It was kind of just guys,
- 14:42Speaker 3: you know, putting the information. This is what I got,
- 14:44Speaker 3: this is what I see. And as you said, a
- 14:47Speaker 3: lot of teams are different, and you know, do you
- 14:50Speaker 3: just answer those questions? Definitely shows people that you got
- 14:53Speaker 3: to be able to adjust and if it's worked for
- 14:55Speaker 3: you in the past, it can still work for you now.
- 14:57Speaker 3: But one other question I want to ask you is
- 14:59Speaker 3: just the state of the clubhouse with with Shelton there,
- 15:02Speaker 3: How has it been? Obviously he was at Pittsburgh, I
- 15:06Speaker 3: don't think. I don't know if you all cross pass
- 15:08Speaker 3: were you together?
- 15:09Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, just really yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 3: But but but even then, I just put two and
- 15:14Speaker 3: two together, Like, how has that been, even though it
- 15:16Speaker 3: was for the COVID season, there's some familiarity. Has that been? Yeah?
- 15:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been great. Yeah, it's been great. I mean
- 15:22Speaker 4: it's so nice.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I mean you remember COVID, Like I was like, you
- 15:26Speaker 2: didn't see the man without a mask on? Like we
- 15:28Speaker 2: all were like, you know, terrified to go outside. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 2: I mean we're getting in trouble for like going out
- 15:34Speaker 2: to eat, like we had to order everything in it was.
- 15:36Speaker 2: It was definitely a different different world. So seeing him
- 15:39Speaker 2: and his element where you know, he's inviting guys into
- 15:42Speaker 2: the his office telling stories about like you know, where'd
- 15:45Speaker 2: you go to eat?
- 15:46Speaker 4: Or like what kind of shoes you got on.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He's he's such like a player focused, uh manager that
- 15:52Speaker 2: it's it's so easy to play for he's ripping guys,
- 15:55Speaker 2: like the rookies that get called up. He has no
- 15:58Speaker 2: problem like digging them for like what clothes they're wearing,
- 16:01Speaker 2: like whatever. So it keeps it fun, it keeps it light.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And yeah, we I mean like any season we've had injuries,
- 16:08Speaker 2: we've had you know, the ups and downs of playing
- 16:10Speaker 2: really well and then losing the close heartbreakers, and he's
- 16:13Speaker 2: been the same guy all season long, you know, and
- 16:17Speaker 2: he's like a manager where like he makes a move
- 16:19Speaker 2: and it doesn't work out, like he has no problem
- 16:22Speaker 2: like you know, going down into the tunnel and like
- 16:24Speaker 2: blowing up just like we do as players. And I
- 16:26Speaker 2: think it's so awesome to see that, like to see
- 16:29Speaker 2: like emotion, like this guy cares just as much as
- 16:31Speaker 2: we do. Like he knows what's at stake. He knows
- 16:34Speaker 2: that this is like a once and an you know,
- 16:36Speaker 2: a lifetime opportunity to to have a playoff berth, especially
- 16:39Speaker 2: in your first year with a club. So we're in
- 16:42Speaker 2: it right now. He's he's been electric, He's he's been
- 16:45Speaker 2: the voice of our clubhouse. He's kept everything even ke
- 16:49Speaker 2: And yeah, we're just we're just hoping for a push
- 16:51Speaker 2: here now and then to go into the next couple
- 16:53Speaker 2: of months. Uh and you know, hopefully pops from Champagne
- 16:56Speaker 2: at the end of the year.
- 16:59Speaker 7: I wanna ask you about that that push here now.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Feeling that that you just talked about, do you guys
- 17:05Speaker 7: feel a sense of pressure that you gotta this next
- 17:07Speaker 7: week is got to be a good week for you
- 17:09Speaker 7: to go and start adding some pieces I think.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I mean, we've had this conversation, like the hitters have
- 17:15Speaker 2: talked to like, it's not about like one I bet,
- 17:19Speaker 2: It's not about like going off this game. It's about
- 17:21Speaker 2: like finding your feels. So like the next fifty hundred events,
- 17:25Speaker 2: you're locked and all we need is like you know, realistically,
- 17:29Speaker 2: it's like two or three guys on a team to
- 17:32Speaker 2: be locked, you know, to scratch off six or seven
- 17:35Speaker 2: hits and then you know, with our speed, we're gonna
- 17:38Speaker 2: score runs with our starters, we're gonna keep runs off
- 17:40Speaker 2: the board.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And then we win the game.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So as long as a couple of us are locked
- 17:46Speaker 2: in it, you know, holds the weight up for the
- 17:49Speaker 2: other guys that are trying to get hot. And we
- 17:51Speaker 2: know how this goes. You only stay hot for a
- 17:53Speaker 2: couple of weeks before the adjustment's made, before pitchers were like,
- 17:56Speaker 2: this guy's not going to beat us, and then it's
- 18:00Speaker 2: you know, the next man up mentality.
- 18:01Speaker 4: So we're just trying to rotate through.
- 18:03Speaker 2: You know, the first couple of months, it was Ryan,
- 18:06Speaker 2: Jeffers and Buckston going off like spasing you know, nine
- 18:10Speaker 2: to fifty thousand ops. And then Jeffers goes down with
- 18:13Speaker 2: a himmate and I'm pretty sure Victor Guarantine, who's like
- 18:16Speaker 2: top five in baseball in all of baseball, for his
- 18:19Speaker 2: offense for the month of June, I think he had
- 18:22Speaker 2: like an eleven hundred ops. So it was like next
- 18:24Speaker 2: man up. So for us, that's that's what we're lying for.
- 18:29Speaker 2: We're not like, oh, it's got to be me, it's
- 18:30Speaker 2: got to be right now. But like I think in
- 18:32Speaker 2: the cage, like we're spending more time like okay, like
- 18:35Speaker 2: this is my feel, like how's it, you know, how's
- 18:37Speaker 2: it going? To play, like, am I adjustable? Like can
- 18:39Speaker 2: I cover you know, multiple pitches and multiple zones? If
- 18:42Speaker 2: I can do that, don't put myself in position to
- 18:44Speaker 2: have success. So less pressure on like this moment right now,
- 18:48Speaker 2: More pressure on like the workday. I got to get
- 18:50Speaker 2: locked and loaded for tonight.
- 18:54Speaker 3: All right? So yeah, bro, you're talking all these good
- 18:58Speaker 3: things of you know, house fresh, and you're in the
- 19:01Speaker 3: hunt and the I think Jim Bowden has you guys
- 19:06Speaker 3: potentially as buyers. What what is that like hearing because
- 19:10Speaker 3: obviously trademarket, obviously we know trade deadline is coming up.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Hearing guys. I mean Shaye Langeleers we just talked about
- 19:16Speaker 3: from Oakland got hurt. So Ryan Jeffers's name has been
- 19:19Speaker 3: brought up a lot. You and I know what it's
- 19:21Speaker 3: like having your name brought up. But that's a guy that,
- 19:24Speaker 3: obviously you said, came back from injury. Has there been
- 19:27Speaker 3: anything where you know, you just being that guy that's
- 19:29Speaker 3: been through it. Are you talking to guys like, hey man,
- 19:32Speaker 3: just stay where you're at. You know, if something happens
- 19:35Speaker 3: going to happen, you know what I mean, because we
- 19:37Speaker 3: all know what it's like. It's been traded to. We
- 19:40Speaker 3: talked about it as well, So like, what's that like,
- 19:43Speaker 3: you know, especially in the opportunity situation where they're talking
- 19:45Speaker 3: about you guys, are you know, content contending possibly being buyers.
- 19:49Speaker 3: You never want to see guys go. You always want
- 19:51Speaker 3: to see guys at it. So has there been any
- 19:53Speaker 3: conversation like that just amongst you guys, not just you
- 19:56Speaker 3: and Ryan, just in general.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, obviously Ryan is brilliant. I think he
- 20:00Speaker 2: has an incredible head on his shoulders and he's always
- 20:03Speaker 2: been like I'm where my feet are. I'm focusing in
- 20:06Speaker 2: on you know, here and now, and then you know,
- 20:09Speaker 2: for the rest of the team, I think it's you know,
- 20:12Speaker 2: everyone online, you know, the media and whatnot, Like everyone's
- 20:15Speaker 2: their own version of a GM, but you never really
- 20:18Speaker 2: know what's going on in the front office, what their
- 20:20Speaker 2: plan is for this year, what their five tenure plan is.
- 20:24Speaker 2: So like for for me from the outside looking at
- 20:26Speaker 2: and it's like, look, let me stay focused, let me
- 20:28Speaker 2: do what I need to do. And for the squad,
- 20:31Speaker 2: like I think we've gone on these runs where it's like, man,
- 20:34Speaker 2: we're a good team, and you know, our fans are
- 20:38Speaker 2: like filling in our stadium like it's it's been electric.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I think our mentally is like, okay, let's put ourselves
- 20:44Speaker 2: in a position to not sell off, because there's a
- 20:48Speaker 2: difference between.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Like you know, adding here and there and then.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Like you know, I think last year they sold, like
- 20:54Speaker 2: sold off like eight guys, so it was like a
- 20:55Speaker 2: completely different team, like change the clubhouse dynamic. I think
- 21:00Speaker 2: like right now we're like okay, like we can put
- 21:02Speaker 2: ourselves in a position to be buyers, but at like
- 21:04Speaker 2: the burying minimum. Like if we're not sellers, it's like
- 21:07Speaker 2: if we can go into August and September with like
- 21:10Speaker 2: the squad that we have right now, we like our
- 21:12Speaker 2: odds if we go into like a three game postseason
- 21:16Speaker 2: you know, wild Card and then a five game like
- 21:18Speaker 2: we like our starters for like our relievers, like we
- 21:21Speaker 2: can put together, we can shrink together wins and then
- 21:23Speaker 2: winning the postseason as well. So yeah, I mean we're
- 21:27Speaker 2: no gms, you know. I think that's just added stress
- 21:31Speaker 2: that makes the game just a little bit harder. But
- 21:35Speaker 2: there's conversations like, hey, we're in it right now. As
- 21:38Speaker 2: long as we don't sell, we can continue to to
- 21:41Speaker 2: you know, make a push for this vision still wide
- 21:43Speaker 2: open for us of a lot of Indivision games to play.
- 21:46Speaker 2: So we're just you know, hoping for a strong finish
- 21:49Speaker 2: here and then for no changes really and then we
- 21:51Speaker 2: can continue to do our job.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Josh, last one for you to go off the field.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I'll phrase it this way. Something about Josh Bell that
- 22:00Speaker 1: most people wouldn't know off the field. Something whether it's
- 22:04Speaker 1: a hobby of personality, just anything like something you like
- 22:07Speaker 1: to do for the off.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Season or on the day off, whatever it is.
- 22:11Speaker 1: What's like some one little thing about you that people
- 22:14Speaker 1: would be surprised. I don't know, you like to most
- 22:16Speaker 1: of the guys come on into the video games. It's
- 22:18Speaker 1: we get a lot of the same answers, But do
- 22:20Speaker 1: you have any curve balls?
- 22:22Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 22:22Speaker 6: I mean.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It's it's been a little bit different. I haven't played
- 22:27Speaker 2: video games much at all with the kiddos. I got
- 22:30Speaker 2: a four year old, a three year old, and a
- 22:32Speaker 2: sixteen month old. But we've been crushing Pokemon. Bailey Ober
- 22:38Speaker 2: is like a huge Pokemon card collector, and he had
- 22:42Speaker 2: a conversation with me, like explaining everything how he watches
- 22:44Speaker 2: everything with his kids, Like he's gone like season this season,
- 22:48Speaker 2: like he's got them the video games. He's got four
- 22:50Speaker 2: kids himself, so I started putting him on, putting on
- 22:53Speaker 2: like Pokemon, and the kidds love it. They're like singing
- 22:56Speaker 2: the song when it comes on. They're like locked into
- 22:58Speaker 2: each episode. So I'm like, I gotta get some old
- 23:01Speaker 2: school game boys they're on. I mean, I played like
- 23:04Speaker 2: Pokemon Gold growing up, and it's just fun to watch
- 23:08Speaker 2: my girls, uh you know, have that same you know,
- 23:12Speaker 2: just connection with them with you know, Pokemon was huge
- 23:15Speaker 2: in my childhood.
- 23:16Speaker 4: So just to see them like fall in love with the.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Storyline and the competition aspect and decision making and stuff
- 23:23Speaker 2: like that, it's it's cool. So that's you know, that's
- 23:25Speaker 2: that's something random. We got a little Pikachu doll dolls
- 23:29Speaker 2: throughout our house and they're always like, you know, they'll
- 23:33Speaker 2: pick up a baseball and be like pokay ball and
- 23:35Speaker 2: like throw it at me.
- 23:37Speaker 4: So it's it's fun. It's something a little bit different.
- 23:40Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm looking forward to to watching them grow
- 23:43Speaker 2: up with you know, with that mentality of you know, the.
- 23:46Speaker 4: World is my my egg, my oyster shell, and.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Uh yeah, just take it and take it as you know,
- 23:55Speaker 2: something that they can really get out there and explore.
- 23:57Speaker 1: With That's cool, and the nostalgia factor's fun because you
- 24:00Speaker 1: can speak the language. You're like, hey, this isn't some
- 24:02Speaker 1: new random show that I don't know about, Like I
- 24:04Speaker 1: I know.
- 24:05Speaker 4: That, I'm like, I have no idea what that is
- 24:08Speaker 4: that I'm lost.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I'm with you, right, but Pokemon, like cool, that's a
- 24:12Speaker 1: thirty year thing. You're speaking our language, Josh, this is great, man,
- 24:15Speaker 1: Thanks so much for joining us.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Great to have you on and good luck the rest of.
- 24:18Speaker 4: The way here. Awesome. Appreciate you guys. Good to see
- 24:22Speaker 4: you all.
