- 0:00Speaker 1: Sponsored you?
- 0:01Speaker 2: It's brought to you by good Lord. Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Well, Ben Lee, the donut critic, is here, and he's
- 0:09Speaker 3: brought us... Turn on your YouTube and take a look
- 0:12Speaker 3: at this. Cinnamon rolls that are as big as a
- 0:16Speaker 3: small child.
- 0:16Speaker 2: They're cinnamon hubcaps.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Yeah, these are tires. These are big tires.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Where do these come from?
- 0:24Speaker 4: So these came from Wallaby's Smokehouse. Have you guys ever
- 0:27Speaker 4: been to Wallaby's?
- 0:28Speaker 5: Nope.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Okay, so Wallabies is a barbecue place down in Utah County.
- 0:33Speaker 4: They used to have a few different locations, but right
- 0:35Speaker 4: now their last standing location is in American Fork. And
- 0:40Speaker 4: the thing that I always go for are these monster
- 0:43Speaker 4: cinnamon rolls. They're huge.
- 0:45Speaker 6: They are.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It weighs almost two pounds.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Yeah, so I weighed them, and if you go on
- 0:50Speaker 4: my Instagram, you can see proof that it was one pound,
- 0:53Speaker 4: 11 ounces.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Wow.
- 0:55Speaker 4: And it's just massive.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I can't possibly expect one person to eat all this.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Oh, I want them to do an eating contest to
- 1:03Speaker 4: see how many people. Like, I think an eating contest
- 1:07Speaker 4: could be really fun. Like, I think put three or
- 1:09Speaker 4: four of these down. Let's see what it looks like. Now,
- 1:11Speaker 4: I really like the consistency of the bread or the...
- 1:18Speaker 4: The dough?
- 1:19Speaker 1: The dough. It's really good.
- 1:21Speaker 4: So when I talk to people about cinnamon rolls, if
- 1:23Speaker 4: they're just asking about one thing, it's so hard to
- 1:26Speaker 4: give them a recommendation because there are so many different
- 1:28Speaker 4: things about a cinnamon roll that can alter an experience, right? Because,
- 1:34Speaker 4: I mean, think about it. You just had a very
- 1:36Speaker 4: salty barbecue meal with probably some coleslaw. The last thing
- 1:41Speaker 4: you probably want is a really ooey gooey cinnamon roll.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Oh, I see what you're seeing.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Yeah, so I feel like it's the difference in experience.
- 1:48Speaker 4: You want something... that kind of rounds out that meal.
- 1:51Speaker 4: And I feel like that cinnamon roll works perfectly for
- 1:54Speaker 4: that type of food. And so, because that's what people
- 1:56Speaker 4: straight up come to me. Well, what's the best cinnamon roll?
- 1:58Speaker 4: And I'm like, Okay, what type of frosting do you like? Yeah,
- 2:01Speaker 4: it depends on what you're eating.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And is it breakfast or is it dessert after a
- 2:06Speaker 2: heavy meal like.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You were saying? Are you going to be able to
- 2:08Speaker 4: eat it immediately or is this going to be something
- 2:10Speaker 4: that sits for a couple hours and then you eat
- 2:12Speaker 4: it later? There's a lot of different factors for cinnamon rolls.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Or is it a reward for doing your schoolwork?
- 2:20Speaker 4: I'll buy you one of those if you do good schoolwork.
- 2:24Speaker 4: But that's the biggest difference in that because, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 4: how people answer when they're going to do it, what
- 2:30Speaker 4: they're doing is going to be a different answer for
- 2:32Speaker 4: the type of cinnamon roll that I like.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I think this is.
- 2:35Speaker 5: A whole post you need to do about a cinnamon
- 2:38Speaker 5: roll for every reason.
- 2:40Speaker 2: That's true. And then rank them. If you need this,
- 2:43Speaker 2: here's where you go.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Now tell us about Wallabies Barbecue.
- 2:47Speaker 4: So Wallabies has been around since 2009 and I think
- 2:50Speaker 4: they just really give you good classic barbecue. And I
- 2:55Speaker 4: feel like their weekly deals, if you're you know, in
- 2:58Speaker 4: the mood to just try something, whatever's on a weekly deal.
- 3:01Speaker 4: They're such a good deal. It's like most of them
- 3:03Speaker 4: are like $ 9. 99. And so you're going in and getting
- 3:07Speaker 4: a really good meat, a really good side, and then,
- 3:09Speaker 4: you know, a lot of different options.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And then the giant cinnamon roll.
- 3:13Speaker 4: And then the giant cinnamon roll. They also have... brownies
- 3:17Speaker 4: and they have Utah scones, you know, fry bread and
- 3:21Speaker 4: other things. And so, so they mix and match it.
- 3:23Speaker 4: And I just think it's a really good classical place.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Like I have an incentive because it's semi close to
- 3:28Speaker 4: my house and let's keep this place in business. It's
- 3:31Speaker 4: a Utah business. And I feel like it's got a
- 3:35Speaker 4: lot of quality. I love going in and seeing crowds there.
- 3:38Speaker 4: And so, like, let's just keep packing that place.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Now, they don't have surf and turf. They have beef
- 3:43Speaker 2: and reef.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Beef and reef.
- 3:46Speaker 1: It's Australian.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, there's all kinds of Australian-inspired stuff.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Beef and reef.
- 3:51Speaker 4: And I'm really impressed with myself that I didn't say
- 3:54Speaker 4: wallabies like wallabies the first time I said it. Like,
- 3:57Speaker 4: that's the first thing I see when I see the name.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 4: And I'm sure my kids eye roll every time I
- 4:03Speaker 4: do it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They have Bundaberg sodas imported from Australia.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Which are great to the ginger ale.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the ginger beer is great.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Yeah, they have like three or four different varieties there.
- 4:14Speaker 4: And yeah, it's just a great place to stop, especially
- 4:18Speaker 4: for meats.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I really like this cinnamon roll because it's not overly sweet.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah. And, you know, I did more of like a
- 4:25Speaker 4: take and bake. So I'm talking to them about some
- 4:28Speaker 4: of those different options. Because it is something that I
- 4:31Speaker 4: would love to take on the road. You know, like
- 4:33Speaker 4: if I'm going someplace, like it would be nice to
- 4:36Speaker 4: have a roll that I trust and that's really good.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Listen, I like their sides.
- 4:41Speaker 6: They have, you know, mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw,
- 4:44Speaker 6: fresh rolls with cinnamon butter.
- 4:47Speaker 1: That sounds, they're just regular rolls.
- 4:50Speaker 5: This sounds like a good place if you have a
- 4:52Speaker 5: lot of people to feed. Yes.
- 4:55Speaker 2: There's a little something for everybody.
- 4:57Speaker 4: It's perfect for Utah County and the big families.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 4: And meal deals and whatnot.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Wallaby's Smokehouse. It's 313 West State Street in American Fork.
- 5:05Speaker 6: And just wallabysmokehouse.com if you want to look at their menu.
- 5:10Speaker 6: But they have lots.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Of different options.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Tons of different options. And every time I go in there,
- 5:16Speaker 4: it seems like I'm trying something different. And, I mean,
- 5:19Speaker 4: the thing that I get most often is the brisket,
- 5:21Speaker 4: but they have wings that are like 10 for $ 10.
- 5:23Speaker 4: $ 12 or something all the time. And so I'm probably
- 5:27Speaker 4: going to do that for Super Bowl as well, just
- 5:28Speaker 4: get like 100 wings and feed.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So what's an Oreo brownie?
- 5:33Speaker 4: So an Oreo brownie, it was just like a base brownie,
- 5:36Speaker 4: but it had like some cream and some brownies or
- 5:40Speaker 4: some Oreos like on top. I'm trying to think if
- 5:42Speaker 4: there were Oreo chunks in that. It was about two
- 5:44Speaker 4: months since I've tried that one. But it was super delicious.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Like it was– One of those things that I would
- 5:50Speaker 4: rather go get that than like the molten lava at Chili's.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Like I feel like Chili's is like shortchanging their desserts nowadays.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I'll eat an Oreo anything.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Okay. I should have brought that one in. I'm sorry.
- 6:02Speaker 5: No, no.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I'm enjoying this.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I'm actually surprised you're eating this because, you know, sometimes
- 6:06Speaker 4: you come, you know.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I'm a little weird.
- 6:08Speaker 5: I know.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I saw Gina eat an Oreo sock once.
- 6:11Speaker 4: It was really weird. Anything Oreo.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Anything Oreo. They really do have a diverse menu. That's interesting.
- 6:21Speaker 4: And they're truly probably the biggest I've seen. The only
- 6:24Speaker 4: other one that's close is down in Bishop's. Have you
- 6:27Speaker 4: ever been to Bishop's in St.
- 6:28Speaker 2: George?
- 6:28Speaker 5: No.
- 6:29Speaker 4: So they have that same thing. And I think this
- 6:32Speaker 4: one tastes way better than Bishop's. That Bishop's one comes out.
- 6:36Speaker 4: You are just like overly impressed on the size and whatnot.
- 6:39Speaker 4: And then you take a bite and you're like, okay, whatever.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Now, this is the last time we're seeing you before Halloween,
- 6:44Speaker 5: so maybe you should give another quick wrap-up of Halloween treats,
- 6:48Speaker 5: apple cider donuts, all that kind of stuff.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Yeah, so I was going to say most of these
- 6:54Speaker 4: farms and these autumn festivals, they're closing this week, so
- 6:58Speaker 4: make sure you're getting out and about. I have spent
- 7:01Speaker 4: a lot of my time at Corn Bellies this year,
- 7:04Speaker 4: and if you look on my Instagram, a few posts ago,
- 7:06Speaker 4: I had this huge drink that was filled with apple slushy,
- 7:10Speaker 4: a scoop of ice cream, a donut on top, cream
- 7:13Speaker 4: on top, and then drizzled in caramel. So if you
- 7:15Speaker 4: want something that is just over the top, treat yourself.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Good Lord.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I couldn't bring those in. Well, obviously. But yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 4: Crossy is still going this week, so make sure to
- 7:30Speaker 4: go get your apple cider donuts. They freeze really well, too.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I've done that multiple times because they– open only at
- 7:37Speaker 4: certain times throughout the year so.
- 7:38Speaker 6: You can enjoy them later uh this new uh bakery
- 7:41Speaker 6: that's open up on foothill magnolia magnolia is that it
- 7:45Speaker 6: and they're famous for their nana pudding yeah have you had.
- 7:48Speaker 4: That yeah bill i i keep i remember we tried
- 7:52Speaker 4: it yeah anyway yeah yeah sue had to remind me
- 7:56Speaker 4: because it was that forgettable and So my wife was
- 8:00Speaker 4: just in New York, and she tried a Biscoff version
- 8:03Speaker 4: of it, and it made me think. I was like, okay,
- 8:05Speaker 4: I probably need to dive into the menu with you all,
- 8:09Speaker 4: bring some variety.
- 8:11Speaker 2: There needs to be a whole segment on this.
- 8:12Speaker 4: We can make a determination, because it is a little
- 8:15Speaker 4: bit controversial in Utah. It's one of those that's come
- 8:19Speaker 4: in from outside, and some people love it, and I
- 8:23Speaker 4: think it makes them, they're thinking of New York and
- 8:26Speaker 4: all those memories that they had, and then there's some
- 8:28Speaker 4: people that are like, Small business, we need to focus
- 8:31Speaker 4: on that. But I think it is something that we try,
- 8:34Speaker 4: and we need to make a determination.
- 8:36Speaker 2: We always prefer to highlight local businesses. But I think
- 8:41Speaker 2: you're right. I think we should bring it in and see.
- 8:45Speaker 1: We tried banana pudding, and it was just okay.
- 8:48Speaker 4: It's just not everything that the picture of it looks great.
- 8:52Speaker 4: It's so hit and miss, though. I had it in
- 8:55Speaker 4: New York years ago, and I loved it. And then
- 8:57Speaker 4: I gold-bellied it out here. And it came out in
- 9:00Speaker 4: like gel. So I get it. Like it had to
- 9:03Speaker 4: be shipped across the nation, but then I had it
- 9:05Speaker 4: again here. And I was like, maybe I was just
- 9:09Speaker 4: in New York and getting like the highs of the city,
- 9:11Speaker 4: you know? But, but it is something to be started.
- 9:14Speaker 4: That's the thing about food that I do like is
- 9:16Speaker 4: something new comes in and usually the cost to try
- 9:19Speaker 4: it and to at least give it a whirl is
- 9:21Speaker 4: pretty small. And the same thing for small businesses when
- 9:23Speaker 4: they move into your area, like you know, a $ 10,
- 9:26Speaker 4: $ 20 meal is not going to break the bank to
- 9:29Speaker 4: try and to see if this is really going to
- 9:31Speaker 4: be something that you want to eat going forward.
- 9:34Speaker 2: We love supporting local businesses.
- 9:36Speaker 6: I am enjoying this Wallabies cinnamon roll, though, quite a bit.
- 9:40Speaker 1: It's just not too sweet. It's just perfect.
- 9:42Speaker 4: But there are some places that I do laugh. I mean,
- 9:45Speaker 4: even small businesses. Have you guys ever been on I-15
- 9:48Speaker 4: and there's that billboard that says the best cinnamon rolls
- 9:51Speaker 4: in the West?
- 9:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I can't remember the name.
- 9:54Speaker 6: It's Parowan.
- 9:54Speaker 4: It's Parowan.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Oh, really? Have you been there?
- 9:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:57Speaker 4: So like years and years, I just passed it.
- 10:00Speaker 6: It.
- 10:00Speaker 4: And I was like, okay, like one day I need
- 10:02Speaker 4: to try it. So I wasn't traveling with my wife.
- 10:04Speaker 4: So she couldn't like complain about making an extra stop.
- 10:07Speaker 2: You're always stopping for cinnamon rolls.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Right.
- 10:10Speaker 4: So I stopped and I tried it and it really
- 10:13Speaker 4: was one of those things. I was like, that's good.
- 10:16Speaker 4: It is good. But who came up with this marketing?
- 10:18Speaker 4: I mean, it got me to stop. So how many
- 10:20Speaker 4: other people did it get to stop? But it was
- 10:23Speaker 4: a fun experience because it's a diner, and there's really
- 10:26Speaker 4: good savory food in addition to the cinnamon roll. And
- 10:28Speaker 4: so you can't complain about those type of things because
- 10:31Speaker 4: you still have a fun experience. You still get to
- 10:33Speaker 4: try it.
- 10:34Speaker 1: What's the name? Do you remember the name of the place? Parowan?
- 10:39Speaker 4: It's Parowan, but, yeah, it's just off of the Main
- 10:42Speaker 4: Street area. I can't remember. It's just one of those
- 10:44Speaker 4: experiences that you just have to laugh and be like,
- 10:47Speaker 4: I don't know who wrote that, but it got me in.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It worked. It's like in the movie Elf.
- 10:53Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:53Speaker 2: When he walks in the diner.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Congratulations.
- 10:55Speaker 2: You're the best coffee in the world. Wow. That's amazing.
- 10:59Speaker 2: How did you do it?
- 11:00Speaker 4: That's so funny because I think my son actually did that.
- 11:03Speaker 4: He was like, he's like, I want to just run
- 11:05Speaker 4: in and say that. And I'm like, no, no, let's
- 11:08Speaker 4: try it first. And then maybe we start touting it
- 11:11Speaker 4: like that. Well, Thank you for the cinnamon roll. It's
- 11:18Speaker 4: easily four cinnamon rolls in one. Well, and I need
- 11:21Speaker 4: to get evidence that you ate them all.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Okay.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm not going to be able to. I'm doing pretty well.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you're doing well.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think it's good. Ben Lee, the Donut Critic. You
- 11:32Speaker 1: can find him where?
- 11:34Speaker 4: On Instagram, Donut Critic. D-O-N-U-T-C-R-I-T-I-C.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Thank you very much, Ben.
