- 0:02This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one piece
- 0:11episodes four ninety three through four ninety five Loofy and Ace, the story of
- 0:18how the brothers met. Here comes Sabo, the boy at the Gray Terminal,
- 0:22and I Won't Run Ace's desperate rescue operation. In these episodes, we
- 0:31get a really fun and satisfying story about Lufy and Ace's relationship and Sabo who.
- 0:40I'm feeling like I might be supposed to know who this is. They
- 0:45are somebody later, but maybe not. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to
- 1:07the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to Florian for
- 1:11commissioning this episode, and I also just want to mention, Oh, and
- 1:18Florian's here in the chat. Hi Florian. Uh? This so I was
- 1:23instructed to skip over episode four ninety two as it is like a filler episode.
- 1:26I guess the Hulu like lineup skips right over four ninety two. It's
- 1:34not even here, and I am super curious about that. I don't know
- 1:38if that's something that's like, you know, the episode has been taken off
- 1:44the air entirely for some reason. If it's like the way that Hulu has
- 1:49structured seasons means that if it isn't, if it is a filler episode,
- 1:53they have just started to like omit that. But I just was very surprised
- 2:00by the fact that I didn't have to like manually skip past four ninety two.
- 2:05So I don't know if there's any info out there about that, and
- 2:08it's not important really, but I am curious about it. So, okay,
- 2:15four ninety three, Lufi and Ace the story of how the brothers met.
- 2:20You know, guys, we have seen them as children and the way
- 2:23that they met, So I was sort of like, well, we didn't
- 2:28see how they met, that's wrong, But we saw some of the backstory
- 2:34about Ace as a kid and the way that he was treated, So I
- 2:38sort of thought that we were going to be joining them in that scenario,
- 2:42that situation, and this turns out to be like a very different setup at
- 2:46this point in their lives. Oh, Florian says four ninety two is a
- 2:54crossover between one piece and another anime. Maybe they do not have the rites
- 3:00for the other anime. That's interesting. What's the other anime that they crossed
- 3:05over with? Oh and I should mention too that this episode had a whole
- 3:12new theme song, which in my opinion, is a banger, and I
- 3:15have actually stopped fast forwarding past the opening credits. I don't watch them because
- 3:20I know that they can have spoilers in them, but I let them play
- 3:23out in the background while I do something else until the episode begins, because
- 3:27I actually really really like this new song, and I am I'm sad knowing
- 3:30that eventually it's going to be replaced with something else, because I'm sort of
- 3:34like, oh, let's just keep this one. This one's really good.
- 3:38But yeah. So we begin things with the narrator reminding us of everything that
- 3:46happened at Marine Ford and the fact that Ace has died, and telling us
- 3:53that you know, we're going to go back ten years and go to the
- 3:57East Blue and that there is this place, a town called Windmill Village where
- 4:03people live quiet, peaceful lives, but it was the nearby Mount Corvo where
- 4:11few would dare to set foot, for only the strong could survive in its
- 4:15dark woods, faced with beasts that would make quick work of trespassers. And
- 4:23we start with Lufy being carried by the mouth by Garb and continuing to yell
- 4:31about how he's going to be a pirate. He doesn't understand what's so wrong
- 4:35about this and the situation here. He's turned into rubber boy already, He's
- 4:43already eaten this gumgum fruit, and Garp is still determined that Lufy and Ace
- 4:48are both going to become marines. But obviously I don't see how he thought
- 4:58that was going to happen, and he sends them to live with literal outlaws.
- 5:02Garp. I know that you had limited options, and I get that,
- 5:08and I'm not judging you for that at all. I understand the difficulty.
- 5:15However, I must say you were sending them to live with like underworld
- 5:21shtheads and the fact that you thought they would turn around and become marines after
- 5:27this is frankly laughable, and you really have nobody to blame but yourself.
- 5:33So sorry about it, but you really played like a major factor. I
- 5:40feel like and where they both wound up. Florine is saying to Rico is
- 5:47the other anime one about finding great food? I think, Okay, Hi,
- 5:53why has nobody commissioned to Rico? Please? Because interested you guys?
- 6:00Just an aside. I have become increasingly aware over the past couple of years
- 6:04between some reading that I have done, and some like eating at different locations
- 6:11in Dallas because there's like a big Korean population down here. I really am
- 6:17deeply unfamiliar with like most Asian cuisine, really really unfamiliar, and I need
- 6:25to like get on that, guys. I really want to know and learn
- 6:28more. And it's difficult when you don't have like the money to eat out
- 6:33all the time, because I'm not going to try and prepare shit myself when
- 6:38I've never even tasted it, because I want somebody who knows what they're doing
- 6:42to tell me how it should taste first, you know. But it's not.
- 6:46It ain't cheap out here to eat anymore. And so there's just a
- 6:53lot about Asian food in general that I have realized I didn't know. I
- 7:00didn't know, and I would be very very interested in an anime about food
- 7:06anyway. Okay, So uh Doadan, Yes, exactly, Florience. So
- 7:14do Don is this very tall, broad redheaded woman who uh is later called
- 7:25a hag many times over and is evidently the leader of this gang of like
- 7:33mountain bandits, and Dedan is like she's a hard ass in in a major
- 7:46way, Like she I'm I'm not trying to pretend that she is just oh,
- 7:51a heart of gold underneath it all, if only you'd give her a
- 7:55chance, because like, she tries to find a way to offload these kids
- 8:01and keeps being basically blackmailed into taking care of them. So it's not like
- 8:09she's at heart a great person. It's more that she seems like pretty easy
- 8:16to manipulate, Like she doesn't think too far ahead, and she doesn't have
- 8:20a real complicated mind, you know. So she answers the door, and
- 8:26she's very aggressive right out of the gate with like, whoever's here, I
- 8:31don't want anything that you're selling or giving away or a lecture or whatever.
- 8:37But then she sees that it's garp and she's like, shit, what are
- 8:39you doing here? And the people who pop out from behind her, there's
- 8:43like this little guy with a turban and another dude who's got like a mohawk.
- 8:50She is called Curly Dedon, and then we've got uh, what is
- 8:58his name? Mountain bandit. Oh, I'm sorry, guys. I For
- 9:03some reason, the way that Hulu works is like if the the little like
- 9:09thing that you go forward and backward on that shows you, like where you
- 9:13are within the episode is up, it blacks out sort of the bottom of
- 9:18the screen, which is exactly where the title is that tells us their names.
- 9:22So when I tried to like jump ahead a little bit, it completely
- 9:26blacked out the names of the other two people. And she's, Oh my
- 9:31god, she's got like a booger hanging out of her nose and a cigarette.
- 9:35It's a real one two punch, so Curly didn and Mountain Bandit Dogra
- 9:43or maybe Dogra Mountain Bandit Magra is the guy with the mustache and the mohawk,
- 9:52and she's like immediately going, I hope you're not here for another fucking
- 9:58favor, because Ace is already ten years old and we don't need to be
- 10:01dealing with another kid. And these guys are like, just take the bread
- 10:07away. We've had him for long enough. And Garb tries to be like,
- 10:09don't mind that, and he's like, but we do mind, And
- 10:13Garp says, well, that's a little bit too bad, because here's Loofy
- 10:16and I love this, he says, tell them hello, And in the
- 10:24dub, Loofy just lifts a hand and goes yo, and I know that
- 10:28they just had to have him say something one syllable to match up with,
- 10:33like the mouth flaps. But yo, it was just so funny in this
- 10:37like little kid voice. I really really enjoyed a lot of like the little
- 10:43kid loofy dialogue. I found it very, very fun. And it's honestly,
- 10:48like a little bit easier for me to forgive some of the loofyish behavior
- 10:52because he's so small. He's meant to be about seven years old here that
- 10:58I couldn't help but think a few times that, like, I can excuse
- 11:03this. He's little enough that this doesn't feel as foolish as it does when
- 11:09he is older and still low key pretty much acting the same way. Florian
- 11:15says, we have not seen her, but we have talked about her because
- 11:18Lufy and Ace mentioned her, and you said she looks like a woman who
- 11:22just wants to watch her program and not be bothered. I don't remember saying
- 11:26that, but yeah, that's I was correct. Like this lady, she's
- 11:33just got a vibe of somebody who's like, doesn't ask that much of life,
- 11:41but what she does ask, she better fucking get it, do you
- 11:45know what I mean? Like, there's some people who are just super ambitious
- 11:46and never satisfied and always want more. Honestly, I can be like that.
- 11:52And then there are people who it's like they don't have huge aspirations,
- 11:54but the things that they do aspire to, if they're not even gonna get
- 11:58that, they really feel a way about it, because that's part of the
- 12:03deal. If you have lowered your expectations, then you expect them to be
- 12:09met. And I see that, you know, so this lady is just
- 12:16like disgusted that Garb wants to leave yet another kid with her. Garb presents
- 12:22him as his grandson, which you would really think they would make more,
- 12:31they would make more of an effort to care for Lufy, just out of
- 12:33the fact that Garp is claiming to be directly related to this kid, where
- 12:37I don't think he made any claim of the sort with A's but when they
- 12:43try and protest, of course he immediately is just like, or you could
- 12:48spend your time in prison because you've committed plenty of crimes and the deal being
- 12:54that you watch these kids and don't go to jail. I feel is pretty
- 12:58good. And doggra who's like no offense. But there have been some times
- 13:05when Ace really made me wish I was in prison. That was what I
- 13:09would have preferred. And Loofy is out here just sort of like running off
- 13:16and into the woods and he gets like something hit in his face. It's
- 13:26I didn't realize that it was meant to be spit right away. I was
- 13:31just sort of like, wait, is this something from the woods? Like,
- 13:33you know, he looks around and is yelling who did that? And
- 13:37then you see Ace who's just upsitting on this like tall boulder, watching him.
- 13:43And Ace is really not here for Loofy at all, which wasn't what
- 13:52I was expecting. And I'm curious how other people were expecting him to be
- 14:00because I just really thought we were going to have a sort of reaching out
- 14:09being protective of Loofy right away, and no, not even a little bit.
- 14:15He is frankly like unwelcoming isn't even the word. You spit on somebody
- 14:24the first time you meet them and they have done nothing to you. That's
- 14:28just hateful And for what reason? What reason, sir did he give you
- 14:33for behaving like this? But it kind of makes sense after having seen the
- 14:39way that he was treated by everybody that Ace just has a chip on his
- 14:43shoulder and really seems to be kind of coming at the world in a real
- 14:50aggressive, fuck you first sort of way. And also I have to keep
- 14:58in mind and this is something that like I personally don't have a lot of
- 15:01experience with, but I have seen it with friends and I have heard about
- 15:09it secondhand, So now I feel like I get it, and I would
- 15:13have felt the same way. I didn't grow up with siblings, and so
- 15:20I don't have the sort of hang ups about I'm older and I want to
- 15:26be given my own like space time with my friends and not be like bogged
- 15:33down with this actual infant who's super annoying. But I know that there's a
- 15:39lot of people out there who were made to like care for siblings who were
- 15:43much younger, and it just really sort of brought the whole vibe down when
- 15:48they wanted to hang out with their friends and they were made to watch their
- 15:50kid sister, kid brother or from my point of view, when I went
- 15:56to hang out with friends and their little brother or sister was like foisted upon
- 16:00us when we we wanted to just like be like cooler than shit, act
- 16:07like total adults even though we were still children, and it just completely ruined
- 16:12the vibe to have this, like, you know, eight year old tagging
- 16:17along with us everywhere, and there there was an element of that I felt
- 16:23as well of just like man, I had my own shit that I was
- 16:27up to. And I guess now you think me and this kid that I
- 16:33have nothing in common with who I only just met, are going to be
- 16:36fucking buds. And let me tell you, then, ay happening. I
- 16:40have no interest and I don't care if he does, because it's not up
- 16:42to him. So Loofy later on, when Ace is like, I don't
- 16:51get it. I've never made you think that I wanted to be friends with
- 16:53you. I've never been nice to you. Why do you want to be
- 16:56friends? Lufy just straight up says because I'm lonely, like who else is
- 17:03there? And it seems like that never occurred to Ace, and he has
- 17:10to take a minute and just be like, think over the way that he
- 17:15had been treated as a kid, and the way that he was made fun
- 17:18of for who his father was, and just the people were just really shitty
- 17:23to him and sort of try and put himself into Loofy's shoes. And once
- 17:30he stops and does that, he's like, oh, yeah, okay,
- 17:33I see that, but it isn't like an automatic thing that he understands,
- 17:37which is sort of interesting because Sabo is that his name is like his only
- 17:45friend, and you would think that it would have occurred to him. This
- 17:49kid doesn't even have a Sabo, but evidently it never did occur to him,
- 17:56which, uh, you know, sir, you just gotta think sometimes,
- 18:03just think for like a second about how you'd feel. That's all it
- 18:06takes, and all of a sudden everything looks different, you know. Sorry.
- 18:12Florian is in the chat he was talking about like their initial meeting and
- 18:17says, yeah, this was not what I was expecting at all, And
- 18:19it does make sense and is sad in a way I was the younger sibling,
- 18:23but yeah, it is true that is the sort of thing that I
- 18:26would have hated, like but at the same time, like I am somebody
- 18:32who's always hyper conscious of not wanting to be in the way and be any
- 18:34trouble, so I minimize myself a lot anyway, And if I were a
- 18:41younger sibling foisted upon an older sibling, I can only imagine how much like
- 18:45worse that would have been. But also I remember as a kid, like
- 18:49finding out that friends of mine had older siblings who had already gone to certain
- 18:53classes, been with certain teachers, and so when we started in like middle
- 18:57school or high school, a teacher would be like, oh, you're so
- 19:00and So's brother, and would recognize them and have like a point of reference,
- 19:07and also that that kid had an older sibling who would have warned them
- 19:11what this teacher was like, or they would have just been socialized a little
- 19:15bit more. And I remember being really jealous of that because I was an
- 19:18only child, and as much as I mostly really enjoyed being an only child,
- 19:22there were a lot of times where it was very apparent to me,
- 19:26how uh, what's the word I want here, how undersocialized I was in
- 19:33comparison to a lot of other kids, and it took me longer to understand
- 19:38how to be. And there were kids that just knew because they had been
- 19:45surrounded by older kids and had a bit of a leg up. But anyway,
- 19:51okay, so yeah, they keep trying to protest about how they're not
- 19:55going to take loofy, but in the end, of course, sir,
- 19:56as you wish, sir, and Garb says, I'll stop by later when
- 20:03I have time. You can put him on my tab, like he doesn't
- 20:07even want to offer them any money to care for Loofy, which is like
- 20:11really particularly shitty, you know. And when Ace comes inside, he walks
- 20:18right past Lufy, who was like demanding that Lufy or Lufy is demanding that
- 20:26Ace apologize for spitting on him. But we see the next time that they
- 20:30interact with each other that Lufy has decided to sort of take a leaf out
- 20:34of Shank's book and forgive because it's just not a big deal, and it's
- 20:44kind of a nice, like throat callback to see Lufy just deciding, you
- 20:48know what, I would rather be friends. I'll just let this go and
- 20:53let it roll off my back. That's a good policy. And you can
- 20:57see the Ace is sort of plussed by that. Let me have Lufy who
- 21:03walks into the house, and some dude comes up behind him and wraps his
- 21:08arm around his head and holds out a knife and says, give us all
- 21:12your money, or go tell your parents to bring us their money. And
- 21:18when he says I have a grandpa, tell us his name and we'll go
- 21:21find him, and Dograss says it's Garb, and all of them immediately begin
- 21:26to freak out. And I was just like, were you really trying to
- 21:30rob a child that was in your house? That's how you wanted to play
- 21:37this, Like y'all deserve everything you get. You are bad at this.
- 21:40What are you even? What are you doing? And they all try to
- 21:44do the same, like we aren't running a daycare. But at this point,
- 21:48de Don pulls out all of this meat and it is just like it's
- 21:52dinner time. Argue about this later and we see some of the Uh,
- 21:56it's not like this is where Lufy gets his appetite, because he's reacting with
- 22:00strong appetite on his own anyway, But it's funny to see how he reacts
- 22:06to this food in every adult here, which is not usually the reaction that
- 22:12we see from other grown ups. And because of like later on we find
- 22:17out that food is a little bit scarce, and the ace is the one
- 22:19that usually is like going hunting and stuff, it's a lot more understandable why
- 22:26everybody is like basically ready to throw fists to get whatever bit they want.
- 22:33And there's one last piece of meat that Lufy is reaching for and the dog
- 22:37takes it, and he has given a glass of water and a bowl of
- 22:44rice and Don tells him, you are going to have to fend for yourself.
- 22:49This is the den of the Didon Mountain bandits. We don't have enough
- 22:56to just go around, so you are going to have to figure out your
- 23:02own meals because we got stuck with you and we don't have the resources.
- 23:08He looks over at Ace, who's got a big plate full of meat,
- 23:14and Ace is not sharing. He has no interest, does not He's just
- 23:18like every man for himself. So to Don, when she's telling him,
- 23:26like, you have to earn your keep, she's expecting Loofy to be like,
- 23:30oh no, but Lufy instead is like, oh all right, well
- 23:37yeah, yes that makes sense, and she's really like wait what, And
- 23:41he's like, yeah, well, you know, my grandfather just dropped me
- 23:45in the fucking woodszone one time and expected me to survive, So I guess
- 23:52that's just gonna be the same thing living here, no problem. And I
- 23:57really enjoyed that reaction and like, I know how to tough it out just
- 24:00fine. I was not expecting him to just immediately think to himself, oh,
- 24:07I'll just use the resources that I've been taught to use. I thought
- 24:12it was gonna be kind of like well, that's not fair, you know,
- 24:15and I should have known better. Immediately, he's like, well,
- 24:18there's plenty of water to drink out in the woods, and I can eat
- 24:22frogs and snakes and mushrooms and stuff all I want. I'm going to be
- 24:26a pirate someday, so I've got to be strong. This is gonna be
- 24:30real fun. And you can see like Ace doesn't look over at him or
- 24:37anything exactly, but you can see that he's listening and it has sort of
- 24:41made an impression on him, the reaction that Lufy is having. So Ace
- 24:48leaves, and Lufy just like chases right after him, clearly expecting Ace to
- 24:56slow down and wait for him, and he does no such. He just
- 25:00goes out into the woods and is clearly trying to shake Loofy, and it's
- 25:07really like hard to watch. At one point, he knocks down a tree
- 25:11sends it at Loofy and like, if Lufy hadn't been made of rubber,
- 25:15he could have been seriously hurt. But since he is, he's fine.
- 25:21But I definitely felt a bit of a way about that Ace that just was
- 25:25like, you know, this is a seven year old boy, What the
- 25:27fuck? Dude? And Ace is like go crossing this bridge. There's all
- 25:33kinds of places where Lufy has like caught up with him, and he is
- 25:37trying to get him to leave him alone. When Lufy like catches up with
- 25:44him on the bridge, Ace like smacks the bridge so that Lufy gets flung
- 25:49off it into the air, and Ace is just clearly if this kid dies,
- 25:57he could not have cared less, and later on is straight up saying
- 26:03we should kill him, and I was just like, what in the fuck?
- 26:07Ace, Jesus Christ. So we find out later exactly what's going on
- 26:12here, but basically Ace is just trying to keep Loofy from finding out where
- 26:18he's hiding out with his friend and what it is that they've got going on,
- 26:22because they've got pirate treasure and they're saving up to get a ship of
- 26:26their own, and they do not trust that this literal child is going to
- 26:30be closed mouthed about this, which they're right to think that. Frankly,
- 26:37it turns out Loofy can keep his mouth shut when he wants to, but
- 26:45he has to like understand the threat in a way that he often doesn't,
- 26:49you know what I mean, Like he'll just blurt it out without really thinking
- 26:52about it, And it's just the fact that he has threatened so immediately and
- 26:56directly that he knows that this is somebody that I don't want to say that
- 27:00too, but yeah, like lufy. When he gets thrown off of this
- 27:06bridge, it takes him a long time to get back to the house,
- 27:11and everybody is just sort of thinking that he might be dead, Like,
- 27:15what are we gonna say to Garp when he finds out that his grandson is
- 27:21dead. Dedan is being really weird about it, and it turns out that
- 27:25she's drunk, so that's part of it. But she's starting to just be
- 27:29like, well, you know, who cares one less crappy kid in the
- 27:32world. Maybe he should have thought about what would have happened to him before
- 27:36he left him with a bunch of bandits in the woods. Does this look
- 27:38like a damn daycare to you. If he can't take care of himself,
- 27:42he has no If he can't take care of the kid himself, he has
- 27:45no right to talk. Which is all very fine and well to say here,
- 27:49but as they keep reminding her it's Garp, she's gonna have to say
- 27:52all of this shit too. And I don't see that happening. Eventually,
- 28:00Loofy does come back and there's no real, like hard feelings about the way
- 28:10that Ace treated him. He is just like, well, I'll try again
- 28:17and will not let up. It's been I think a full week by the
- 28:23time he turns back up, and he's like, you know, clearly been
- 28:30through it. He's got a cut over one eye, part of his shirt
- 28:34is torn. He's just really beaten up, but he's here. And when
- 28:42he goes outside to Don is like, why did you scare us like that?
- 28:48And stretches his face. What the hell were you doing? This whole
- 28:52thing? It's so funny because to Don acted like it didn't matter. But
- 28:57as soon as he turns back up again, is like, I can't tell
- 29:02if she's lying about not giving a shit about him, or if it's just
- 29:07that now she's sober, she does or what. But she's just like,
- 29:11as soon as she's done being relieved that he's okay, she then starts complaining
- 29:17about how it's another mouth to feed and she tosses him in the room with
- 29:22Ace, and he just like immediately passes out, and you can see Ace
- 29:27looking over at Lufy and there being a sort of oh, he's fucking back,
- 29:33and like I said, the next day, Lufy's like, hey,
- 29:36Ace, I know I was gone for a while, but I still want
- 29:40to be friends. Where are you going? Can I come with you?
- 29:44And Chase is after him. Meanwhile, they have been intending to make both
- 29:48of these kids do chores, and they act like that never happens. This
- 29:52is a recurring theme when it's just Ace, when it's Ace and Lufy,
- 29:56and then later when it's Ace, Lufy and Sabo, they always just fucking
- 30:00bail And I don't know why they keep thinking we'll make you do chores,
- 30:04because when has that happened? Like literally ever? So we then sort of
- 30:11like we have another montage of Ace trying to lose Loofy, and finally Loofy
- 30:18gets like attacked by this tiger, and it really looks for a second like
- 30:23there's going to be a moment where Lufy gets eaten. Lufy does get eaten,
- 30:29actually later on by an alligator, but this attack by the tiger gets
- 30:34interrupted by the attack from the bear, and this gives Lufy just enough time
- 30:38to flee and get out of there. Ace is watching the whole thing,
- 30:44but he doesn't actually step in I'm not sure if there's anything that he could
- 30:48have done, so I don't blame him for that, but he does seem
- 30:51pleased when Lufy manages to get away. Right. So we'll jumping into the
- 31:00second of these two episodes or these three episodes. Loofy has like run off
- 31:08and found this weird area which we later find out is called, uh Gray,
- 31:17I'm trying to find it. It's like Gray interior. It's not interior.
- 31:22I can't remember the name of this. Florian says, Loufy just does
- 31:26not want to be lonely and thinking of his crew. This makes sense.
- 31:30He wants good people around him. Yeah, definitely, But yeah, he
- 31:37comes across this place, Gray terminal, that's what it is. Uh.
- 31:42He has found this what basically amounts to like a dump on the edge of
- 31:51town, and it is full of all kinds of junk that the merchants will
- 32:00buy up. It's like taking things and going to like a pawn shop basically.
- 32:08And there's a couple of dudes who are heading in there and have made
- 32:13a killing apparently going to some merchant and got a lot of money. And
- 32:17they are not on their guard at all because they're both big, strong,
- 32:22dudes, and so I just feel that they aren't worried anybody is going to
- 32:29come for them, and they are not ready for Ace, who is out
- 32:34here lying in wait, looking for anybody who has money, and he just
- 32:40beats the hell out of them and takes it. And the fact that he
- 32:44is a kid is part of why they don't see him coming, because he
- 32:46just does not look like a threat. And the people who live around here
- 32:53are also like they're described as like rogues and misfits, cast out by society.
- 33:00Crime and disease run rampant, with neither marines nor doctors present. So
- 33:07it's just very much sort of like a wasteland where anything goes. And this
- 33:14is where Ace is going to, like, you know, to try and
- 33:19make his fortune. And Lufy follows him out here and doesn't know what Ace
- 33:23is up to either, and we're just getting this like little montage of Ace
- 33:29fighting, but we're not seeing who it is that he's up against. So
- 33:34it comes as a big surprise when you see like this grown man sprinting away
- 33:39in terror and then finding out that it was Ace who like took his shit,
- 33:45and there's just it's a lot of scavengers and people fighting over things.
- 33:50There's a whole scene with like a guy stealing somebody's uh, some poor dude
- 33:54found a pearl necklace and there's a big fist fighter and somebody else takes it
- 34:00and then they get got one hand to another, you know. But eventually
- 34:08we see Ace with a big sack of loot coming up to this huge tree
- 34:15and he is meeting Sabo and it says Sabo ten years old, a boy
- 34:22who lives in Gray Terminal, and he's got what looks like a chipped tooth.
- 34:27It's not even a missing tooth, it's like the tooth is broken.
- 34:31And they have got a lot of money. They're talking about how this might
- 34:37not be enough for a ship, but I really feel confident it is,
- 34:40and the two of them have been at this and like really making a killing.
- 34:46It's surprising in a way that they're not that more people aren't on their
- 34:52guard regarding these kids. But at the same time, I could understand how
- 34:59people don't want to that they got jumped by like a child, because that's
- 35:04so embarrassing, Like it reminds me a little bit of if. For those
- 35:08who haven't seen the movie Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez. I highly recommend it.
- 35:14I'm not like a Jennifer Lopez fan in general, because she's just she's a
- 35:20very problematic woman. But that is one of my favorite movies ever, and
- 35:24it's a true story about some strippers who after the crash in two thousand and
- 35:31eight, they had been making really good money and then all of a sudden,
- 35:36all of these like different you know, hedge funds, businesses, bear
- 35:40Stearns and whatnot, they all went under, and so their top customers at
- 35:45the strip club didn't have any money to spend and they were just not showing
- 35:50up, and so they had to devise a new way to make money.
- 35:54And what they decided to do was drug these men and take their credit cards
- 36:00out of their pockets and use them to give themselves huge tips. And the
- 36:07guys would wake up after having been drugged, and they wouldn't admit to anybody
- 36:14that this had happened. They would play it off like they spent the money
- 36:17on purpose because they have the money to spend and they had a great time,
- 36:22and sometimes they'd even go back a second time and just pretend that it
- 36:27was just like, oh, it was a debauched night out where I don't
- 36:30remember because I got fucked up, not because these women actually drugged and took
- 36:35advantage of me. So they got away with it for a long time because
- 36:40nobody really wanted to cop to the fact that this was what was going on,
- 36:45and that's what I was just assuming was sort of happening here. But
- 36:49yeah, eventually they get approached by Loofy, and this is like their secret
- 36:55hangout and where they're dashing their money. That means everything to them. So
- 37:00the fact that Lufy is here and sees them is a fucking problem. Like
- 37:06they are really upset about this, and Ace had thought for sure that he
- 37:12had given Loofy the slip, so the fact that Lufy is here, he
- 37:15is so irritated about it. And eventually they grip Loofy up and tie him
- 37:21to a tree and they decide to kill him. Kids, I wasn't the
- 37:29only one shocked by this, right, Like they're literally like, all right,
- 37:32well, go ahead kill him then, Like it's not they it's not
- 37:37that they don't know what it means to kill They don't kill him because neither
- 37:42of them has done it before and they just don't really know what to do.
- 37:46But I wouldn't say that. They say they're gonna kill him and chicken
- 37:52out. I want to say that because it suggests a line in the sand
- 37:59of morality, but I can't honestly say it because I don't think that line
- 38:06is there for them. I think that had each of like either of them
- 38:12owned a gun, for example, and knew if I just pulled a trigger,
- 38:16this problem is no longer a problem. I think they would have done
- 38:22it. I just, you know, I just kind of think they would
- 38:27have done it, and it's upsetting. Eventually, when Lufy realizes that they
- 38:34are going to kill him, like he's trying it first to just sort of
- 38:37be like, oh, you guys, but then he realizes they are actually
- 38:43serious about it and begins to sort of try and yell for help. And
- 38:47once he begins to like cut up, it draws like the attention of some
- 38:53people nearby, and even oh Lufy attempts to stay quiet, it's no use.
- 39:04He gets got by this dude, this huge, purplish haired dude whose
- 39:12name is something sort of weird. It's like pork Garris something like that.
- 39:19But he asks loofy if he knows where the money is that's been stolen from
- 39:24them, all because they took from this dude who turns out to be a
- 39:30Blue Jam pirate. Blue Jam I really don't know what to think of that,
- 39:35guys. I feel like that's a bad name, but I can't exactly
- 39:39articulate what's so bad about it. I think it's just that it sounds so
- 39:43close to Pearl Jam that it just makes me giggle a little bit. I
- 39:47think that's all it is, to be perfectly honest. But this dude,
- 39:54they didn't know like who they were fucking with, and once they realized that
- 39:58that's who they s stole from, Ace is like, oh shit, and
- 40:04uh Loofy attempts to lie that he doesn't know where the money's being kept,
- 40:10but we get to see like the most terrible like staring off to the side,
- 40:17speaking out the side of his mouth like no, I have no idea
- 40:22where it is. And it's really funny how like they're immediately like oh boy,
- 40:30And this is the exact kind of animation that we get later when the
- 40:34bandits are all trying to lie as well. And I just find it really
- 40:37funny that this is meant to be like the way that you know somebody is
- 40:42full of shit. It makes sense like it does. I see this being
- 40:49a you know, a bad liar, but I did think it was funny
- 40:52because it just it's there's something about it that's so specific, you know what
- 40:57I'm saying. But anyway, so because he was a bad liar, these
- 41:06pirates are like, oh, bet, we'll just grab this kid and then
- 41:13once we have him in our clutches, we'll be able to get the story
- 41:15out of him, no problem. And understandably, Ace and Sabo assume Loofy
- 41:23gonna fold, like there's just no doubt about it to them. So they
- 41:30go to their stash and very quickly get everything out of there to make sure
- 41:34that nobody is going to find it, which is totally fair, but they
- 41:39underestimate the situation for Loofy as far as how much it means to him to
- 41:49be a friend and be loyal. And so there is a genuinely upset setting
- 42:00sequence where this dude goes and gets spiked gloves and begins to beat the shit
- 42:13out of Loofy demanding to know what he knows, and Loofy won't talk.
- 42:22And you guys, this was, like I said, it just it was
- 42:25upsetting. It made me there's a point where one of these pirates is like,
- 42:34this is a kid and this is getting hard to watch? Can we
- 42:38not? And yeah, you know I was also like kind of in that
- 42:46space, just like I would rather So all this to say that lou Fee
- 43:00is absolutely willing to die to keep this secret, which I can't. I
- 43:14just could never you, guys, I have said it before, I'll say
- 43:17it again until the day I die. I am not made to withstand torture.
- 43:24I am so sorry everybody out there whom I love if I were to
- 43:29give up your secrets. I really don't want you to take it personally.
- 43:31Don't think that it's because I don't love you. It's just that I am
- 43:37weak. I just am. I admit this. I know this about myself,
- 43:42and I'm not even really like apologizing for it exactly. It's just don't
- 43:47tell me shit then you know this about me. I've admitted it to you,
- 43:52So if I have some info that they could use against you, it's
- 43:54your fault for telling me because you knew this about me, and you know,
- 44:00like, what did you want? What did you expect? Frankly,
- 44:04and I just personally the moment that I saw this man take out those spikes
- 44:08gloves. That would be a rap, that would be it. He has
- 44:14those gloves out and I am telling him literally anything he wants to know.
- 44:20I just couldn't. I couldn't withstand it. It would not happen. And
- 44:27it's just something that I have known about myself and have grown. I have
- 44:34come to peace with it. How's that so? Anyway? That's what's going
- 44:39on here as these guys are like, you know, frantically finding a new
- 44:44place to hide all of their money, carrying it in boxes to like this
- 44:50other location, and they're they're doing it because they fully assume that Lufy's going
- 44:54to crack and tell them, And Sabo is like final at one point,
- 45:00after watching the spot where there shit had been hidden, realizing like nobody is
- 45:06coming, he goes to Ace and is like, dude, I don't think
- 45:10he's told them, which means he's still being tortured right now and hasn't spilled
- 45:19his guts. And we actually see Portuy that's his name. We actually see
- 45:29Captain blue jam and he is so weird looking. He has these teeth like
- 45:35jack O lantern teeth. But he's saying, how like maybe Portumy hasn't come
- 45:42with his money because he thinks he's going to be able to get one over
- 45:45on as captain and take off with it. He doesn't know that portum Me
- 45:52got robbed yet, and later on when it turns out that's what happened,
- 45:57he has absolutely no patience for at whatsoever. Like instantly, his response is
- 46:02basically, if you got robbed, that is fucking sad, and there is
- 46:08no way that you are going to remain on the top tier of my pirates
- 46:15after being taken by a child. And on the one hand, I can't
- 46:23where he's coming from on that, but I also I can't help you,
- 46:28guys. It's like it's a fucked up thing where porture Me is out here
- 46:32literally torturing a kid hanging from the ceiling. When somebody dares to be like,
- 46:38don't torture this child anymore, he punches this man across the room and
- 46:43says, if you have time to bitch about this, you've got time to
- 46:45go find ace. This is a bad man. And yet when he's like
- 46:52on his knees crying in front of his boss and telling him like I'm so
- 46:58sorry, I couldn't help but feel bad for him, like getting killed,
- 47:02I did. I just you know. So the next episode begins with Loofy
- 47:10like Portumy had basically decided at this point it's just no use, like Lufy
- 47:17isn't going to tell, so I'm gonna put an end to this, and
- 47:23he gets his, uh, his sword and is about to like cut Lufy's
- 47:29head off, but Sabo and Ace run in and save Lufy at the last
- 47:36second, and Ace is like, giving Sabo enough time to get Loofy down
- 47:43from the ceiling, and it's supposed to just be once we've got Lufy,
- 47:47we're gonna, you know, take off from here. But Ace refuses to
- 47:53run and he says like, I don't run from my enemies, to which
- 48:00porch me. He's like, well, I don't show mercy to my enemies,
- 48:05so I'm done playing games. You've got something that belongs to us,
- 48:08be good and give it back. You're just a kid, and I don't
- 48:13blame you for acting stupid, but you better give us the fucking money or
- 48:17you're gonna live to regret it. Now. I'm gonna be honest with you
- 48:22guys once again on expectations that I had, and that is to say I
- 48:30fully expected this to end up being basically a trade of the money that they
- 48:39had saved up for Lufy's life, that they were going to turn out to
- 48:46like realize that Lufy had kept his mouth shut and that he was a decent
- 48:52kid, and that they were going to like take the hit, maybe not
- 48:57giving up all their money, but giving back like a good portion of it
- 49:01in exchange for Lufy, and that being part of the sacrifice that they were
- 49:06making. And I like this the way that this goes down. I was
- 49:15genuinely surprised at all of this. So first Sabo just drops Louviy and is
- 49:22like, you wait right here, I'll be right back, and he rushes
- 49:24forward to like help Ace fight, and U portraed me Like it looks for
- 49:30a second like he has really beaten, Like he takes a swing at Ace
- 49:37and he seems like he goes flying, but instead it turns out that they
- 49:44are actually kind of badass. And you see Louvi's face as he's watching all
- 49:50of this go down in utter shock, because I just don't think that even
- 49:53at this point he had expected to be beat or had expected to be saved.
- 50:00And then we have the Captain blue Jam coming to find Portray and being
- 50:06like I heard the whole story, and you should be fucking ashamed of yourself.
- 50:12And when port Me tries to explain, he just says, you're not
- 50:15fit for my crew and pulls a gun and just shoots porch Me in the
- 50:21head. I never thought that it was just gonna be I'm gonna shoot you
- 50:29in the head like this. I thought Portramy was going to be like an
- 50:32ongoing issue because, like the end of this three episodes is not the end
- 50:38of this story arc. So the fact that he has just been completely taken
- 50:44out of the mix, I was really shocked by. And Blue Jam just
- 50:49says, all right, so then, which one of y'all is going to
- 50:52get my money back? Because I'll be damned if I let these these infants
- 51:00get away with money that belongs to me. That is not happening. We
- 51:07have got to show them we are not to be fucked with. So let
- 51:12me go to Ace and Sabo and Looviy, and Sabo is saying, Ace,
- 51:16that was fucked up. I get that you want to make a point,
- 51:20but those were actual pirates and next time we have to run. I
- 51:24don't know what your deal is, but it's not worth dying over Ace meanwhile
- 51:30completely ignores him, and Sabo says, we made a huge mistake pissing off
- 51:39pirates like that. They've probably told their captain like what are we supposed to
- 51:45do now? And Lufy is out here like crying, and Ace yells at
- 51:55him to stop. You're not hurt that bad? When are you gonna stop
- 52:00being a baby? And I was so mad at him? I was so
- 52:07mad at him, you guys, I really was, like he said,
- 52:12like, and movie rightfully is like, have you ever been hit with gloves
- 52:16that are all spiked like that? You know? But I really Ace,
- 52:23he kept your secret. He got the shit kicked out of him, and
- 52:29you're gonna come over here and tell him to stop being a baby? Is
- 52:35that really how you want to play this? My friend? Is this it
- 52:38come on like that? Just Ace? I am, just, for the
- 52:44record, deeply disappointed in Ace. I'm just deeply disappointed. He just was
- 52:55willing to do some pretty awful things these episodes that I would not have expected
- 53:01of him. And I know that he grows and is better eventually, and
- 53:06that's great, but for now, I was just bummed. And when he
- 53:13says, do you want to be a pirate or not? Lufy finally like
- 53:15manages to make himself shut up. But this is the moment where he's asking
- 53:22Loufy, like, why didn't you just tell them? And Lufy says,
- 53:25because I was afraid that if I did, you wouldn't want to be my
- 53:29friend, And he's like, okay, even if I didn't, though,
- 53:32it would still be dying, Like why do you even want to be my
- 53:37friend so bad? It's not like I've been nice to you. I've been
- 53:39giving you hell ever since we met. It's been months. Why haven't you
- 53:43just given up? And Loofy, who is by the way, all bandaged
- 53:49up, like covered in cuts and whatnot, he says, because I got
- 53:53no one else to turn to. I can't go back to Windmill Village.
- 53:58I don't like the Mountain Bandits. I'd be alone all the time if I
- 54:01didn't follow you. Getting beat up hurts, but being lonely hurts more.
- 54:07And then you see these flashbacks of Ace being just like made fun of by
- 54:15people and him realizing like what the loneliness is and says, well, I
- 54:22get it, but you're still annoying. Weak little cry babies piss me off.
- 54:28And they wind up just sort of like screaming in each other's faces about
- 54:31this. Sabo finally is like, all right, look, I can't stay
- 54:40out here, guys. I've been sleeping in these woods. But eventually there's
- 54:45gonna come a point where I am too tired one night and I pass out,
- 54:52don't notice them sneaking up on me, and I'm dead. So I'm
- 54:57gonna come and stay with y'all. I need your help. And I do
- 55:01enjoy the fact that, like, even though they're sleeping with these bandits,
- 55:07they don't feel any need to contribute really, like they bring food back and
- 55:10stuff, but the whole thing with the chores that was supposed to happen is
- 55:16just not on the table in any serious way. And I really do enjoy
- 55:22that when they come back, like they're all covered in bandages and Dogra is
- 55:28just like, what is going on with these guys? And eventually we have
- 55:31dedn coming and seeing that there's an extra kid, and it, you know,
- 55:37there's this long ongoing like counting and realizing there's an extra kid. Nobody
- 55:42said that you could stay here, and Sabo just farts repeatedly and is just
- 55:49laughing. It's such a weird sequence all this to say, Sabo eventually like
- 55:55tells her, I heard you're a tough old. I'll be sure to mind
- 56:01my manners. And she's like, all right, the tough part is true,
- 56:06but start calling stop calling me, hag And he's just grinning at her
- 56:12and she's getting angry, and eventually, as they're like sort of going head
- 56:17to head with her anger and his smile, she just collapses. And it's
- 56:22like, all right, fine, but no free rides get to work this
- 56:30instant and Sabo says, you got it, thank you, and they don't.
- 56:37Long story short, he says you got it, and then they do
- 56:42not. I should mention too that what Sabo is wearing here is wild.
- 56:46So he's got blonde hair and this little like upturned nose, and he has
- 56:52what looks like and like an outfit from like the eighteenth century, with a
- 57:00cravat and a wide collar and a very steampunky cat like, uh, what
- 57:07do you call it? I keep wanting to say, captain's happitth that's not
- 57:08it top hat with a pair of goggles on it. But you never see
- 57:13him actually wearing these goggles. But his whole like look is actually kind of
- 57:19dope. And I just really want to know about where he's from and what
- 57:22the deal is with this guy. But yeah, eventually we have like the
- 57:25sequence of them all in the woods playing around and eventually them joking about what
- 57:32like how Loofy can turn into rubber and Ace is trying to act unimpressed with
- 57:39this power, but Sabo is like, I don't know, that sounds like
- 57:44it could be really handy, actually, and so Loofy turns into a balloon
- 57:50gum balloon, which we've seen him use and it is really useful, but
- 57:53it looks just kind of goofy, and the two of them decide to mess
- 57:59with him by just kicking him back and forth like a huge rubber ball,
- 58:02but they have forgotten the fact that Lufy can't swim, so eventually, as
- 58:08he's being bounced back and forth, he just winds up landing in the water
- 58:13and almost drowning. And when he comes up out of the water, he's
- 58:16in the jaws of an alligator who tries to eat him, and the alligator
- 58:22attempts to leave and the boys jump him and are just like, you don't
- 58:27get to just eat a guy and then leave, And the next shot is
- 58:31of all of them marching back to the cabin and carrying actually I think they
- 58:37call it a crocodile, but they're carrying it and just telling Lufy to stop
- 58:42crying about almost being eaten because now they've got crocodile for dinner and it all
- 58:45worked out. I can't get over how often Lufy is told to just like
- 58:50stop crying about having almost been eaten by an animal or killed or whatever.
- 58:57Truly, I do not understand these people. I just don't. Eventually,
- 59:04when they are going past one of their old hideouts, they see a bunch
- 59:07of pirates who have found the spot and opened up the like little secret hiding
- 59:14area and there's nothing in there, and they're just like, well, thank
- 59:15god, we moved everything. But it's unclear how they found it. I
- 59:22think it's just meant to be that he's like sending pirates into the woods to
- 59:27just comb every inch of the place. So they're still searching for these kids,
- 59:31and at one point when they try and go back into like the town
- 59:37area, they run into pirates who have the like have you seen these children?
- 59:43Like illustrations of what these kids look like. And it's really funny because
- 59:49they're standing here watching this and some guy is like, oh, hey,
- 59:52there they are, They're right here, and they flee. But the it
- 1:00:00just really feels like they had thought they could keep doing what they were doing
- 1:00:05to like save and money to steal it from people, and the shit is
- 1:00:10too hot now, like they're not going to be able to pull this off
- 1:00:13anymore. So yeah, Sabo is saying, like, we have got to
- 1:00:17lay low for now because there's too many of them and we have to be
- 1:00:21we have to wait until they get bored so that we can resume activities.
- 1:00:29Ace, for his part, is like, why should we wait. Let's
- 1:00:34just if they find us, we'll just fight them, And Sabo's like,
- 1:00:37why would we pick a fight with like a hundred guys. We can't beat
- 1:00:42them? What do you? What are you doing? And it just becomes
- 1:00:46increasingly clear Ace is kind of reckless and foolhardy. Sabo is his bud,
- 1:00:54and they're like in this together, but Sabo has a much more realist take
- 1:01:00a view about what they can accomplish. And it's just I don't know,
- 1:01:08I feel like Ace is gonna fuck this up. I feel like he's gonna
- 1:01:10do something stupid. So then we have the final scene where uh Dedan is
- 1:01:19in a meeting with her crew, who are all basically like, well,
- 1:01:23I guess it's a rap for us as bandits because we can't stand up to
- 1:01:28these Blue Jam guys. So we had a good run, but we had
- 1:01:32to know that there was going to be an into it. One day and
- 1:01:37she loses her temper and stands up and it's just like, don't you have
- 1:01:43any fucking pride at all? This is pathetic? Are you really just giving
- 1:01:46up? If they come by asking for the breath, then we'll just hand
- 1:01:51them over. And then they're like, but what about Garp. He'll be
- 1:01:55really pissed. And plus Blue Jams a monster finds out we know them,
- 1:02:01he'll just kill us because we know them. So then she's like, oh
- 1:02:06all right, well then we'll say we don't know them, and they she's
- 1:02:09like, pretend you don't know them, and she does a little role playing
- 1:02:15and they do the we don't know and she's like, oh god, that
- 1:02:19was really bad. Oh shit, and I did really enjoy this, Like,
- 1:02:25let's rehearse together. And as they're all talking about this, here these
- 1:02:30three come walking up the way with the crocodile for dinner, and it just
- 1:02:37really feels like they're realizing there's gonna be a major change on the horizon,
- 1:02:46and it says from the narrator, Fearing for his life, Sabo left Gray
- 1:02:53Terminal and found a home with Ace and Lufy, much to Dedan's dismay.
- 1:02:59For the three unwanted guests, it was a never ending party, making any
- 1:03:04excuse to get out of their daily chores. They hunted wild animals and the
- 1:03:07mountains, tussled with hooligans in the city, dueled with pirates at the cove.
- 1:03:14Within time, news of their wild exploits reach far and wide, even
- 1:03:19over the high wall surrounding the center of the Kingdom. And that is the
- 1:03:23end of the episode. So yeah, this is a really good trio of
- 1:03:29episodes. I'm really looking forward to seeing where we go from here. This
- 1:03:34will be fun and I like Sabo a lot, so he's a fun new
- 1:03:37character. All Right, guys, I'm going to wrap this up. Thank
- 1:03:42you again so much for hanging out with me. Thank you to Florian for
- 1:03:45commissioning this. I hope they y all are enjoying the coverage. And until
- 1:03:47next time to the loom, motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network past
