- 0:08Happy 2026 to our listeners, our viewers.
- 0:11You made it to another year with us.
- 0:13My name is Jason Riley with me as always, Barry Teenix.
- 0:16And Barry, how's your early 2026 going?
- 0:20Because as our regular listeners and viewers know, we are always
- 0:23one week behind our listeners. So it's not quite New Year's
- 0:27where we are, but we we're celebrating like it is.
- 0:29Yeah, exactly. Mentally we're already there,
- 0:31which is nice. Absolutely.
- 0:33It's going fantastic. Jay, you're looking great as
- 0:36always. The hair is looking nice and
- 0:38thick. Sweater.
- 0:39Yeah, you got the sweater. You're ready to rock'n'roll you.
- 0:42You're ready to take on anything that 26 is going to throw at.
- 0:45You I really think so. You know, I will say that we are
- 0:49the podcast with probably the mightiest hair out of just about
- 0:52any podcast. I put us up there in the like we
- 0:55got to be in the top 5% of podcasts with men in a middle
- 0:58age capacity with the ability heads of hair.
- 1:01Yeah, who are not follically challenged.
- 1:03Yeah. But we're not here to pat
- 1:05ourselves on the back about something that is a genetic dice
- 1:08roll. That should really be a high 5
- 1:10for our folks. Yeah.
- 1:11But. Before we get there.
- 1:13But before we get there, Yeah, let's begin the new year the
- 1:17right way, Jay. And it's the same way we've
- 1:19begun every year since we began the podcast and possibly before
- 1:23then with a delicious shot. And I'm going to be raising a
- 1:25toast in your honor with some Bushmills 12 year.
- 1:29Nice. And I will be raising a glass in
- 1:32your honor with some Jameson Triple, triple, Happy new Year.
- 1:36Same to you, Jay, and to our viewers and audience.
- 1:38Cheers. What are those notes?
- 1:44Talk to me about the notes. That first one was a bit, yeah,
- 1:47I got the shoulders moving, got the traps going, yeah.
- 1:49Yeah, yeah. Nice.
- 1:51OK, Well, mine did a leap again over the tongue.
- 1:54Nice. Esophageal burn.
- 1:56I love an esophageal burn. You know that whiskey's going
- 1:58down. You can feel it go the whole way
- 2:00down, which is just utter perfection is what I would say.
- 2:03I love it. You always put a positive spin
- 2:05on even something as potentially uncomfortable as an esophageal
- 2:09burn. I love it.
- 2:12And again, again another year with shots leaping over the
- 2:16tongue. I can only expect that will
- 2:17continue throughout 26. In full celebration, that's how
- 2:21it goes. Yeah.
- 2:22What do we want to start off with?
- 2:25Well, perhaps a quick year in review, yeah.
- 2:28And then looking forward to, you know, what we have in 26, it
- 2:32doesn't have to and no resolutions.
- 2:35I think we've gone down that road.
- 2:36We're not resolutions guys. We're guys who want to continue
- 2:39to do what we're already doing if it's positive.
- 2:42Yeah, and we did touch on life lessons in our last episode that
- 2:45we took out of 2025. But yeah, maybe we did.
- 2:48What do we got coming ahead? What's propelling us into the
- 2:50new year? Are you want to kick us off?
- 2:52Yeah, but well, first, before we look ahead, we must look behind
- 2:56us again. OK, let's do. 25 Just quickly,
- 3:00it's been a great year in terms of travel for myself and my
- 3:04executive producer, Linda LeBron.
- 3:05We were able to do some really fun things this year.
- 3:07We went to St. John's, NL, he went to Salt Lake
- 3:10City, UT Austin, TX and then we also began the year with my
- 3:14sister's family in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
- 3:18So it's been a phenomenal travel year for us.
- 3:21We hope that continues. Jay, you had an, I mean,
- 3:24probably one of the greatest adventures any man, alive or
- 3:28dead, could hope to have. And that was when you visited
- 3:30Japan to work on a project that is still very much under wraps.
- 3:34We can't wait to find out what that was.
- 3:36Yes. And I'm excited to go back in
- 3:38April to shoot the remaining days on this project.
- 3:41So that will be very exciting. And I can't wait to find out
- 3:43when it's coming out because it'll be very cool for to be
- 3:46able to see this, which is awesome.
- 3:47Yeah, yeah. Absolutely.
- 3:49You know what I'm taking into 2026 and I wanted to share this
- 3:51with you because I'm pretty excited about it.
- 3:53I sent you an image. You know, we are all about
- 3:55physical media here on the show and what qualifies as physical
- 3:59media is the comic book. And now I have not purchased an
- 4:02individual issue of a comic book in a while, but I was compelled
- 4:06to go down to the local BMV and see if they had a couple of
- 4:10issues of a new comic that has been released.
- 4:12And they did. And I'm going to show it to you.
- 4:15Youngblood, the Image comic Youngblood, created by Rob
- 4:19Liefeld, who has a podcast as well.
- 4:21Pretty popular in turn in comics.
- 4:23What is Youngblood, Barry? Well, I thought it was a
- 4:25musician that Ozzy Osbourne took under his wing and but we're not
- 4:30talking about him, we're talking about something.
- 4:32Else the roots go back differently.
- 4:34In fact, the roots go back to 1992.
- 4:36Look at this, Rob Liefeld, the dark aged blood.
- 4:40This was the very first Image comic.
- 4:42So there is, there are three kind of major comic publishers.
- 4:45Marvel started in the 60s, DC started well before that in the
- 4:4930s. And in 1992, some top artists
- 4:52from Marvel broke off and created their own Image Comics
- 4:55label. Image Comics still running
- 4:57today, still running today. And Youngblood was the very
- 5:01first comic I'm holding in my hand, the very first comic to
- 5:04come out of Image Comics. Very exciting, very 90s, very
- 5:08splashy. Rob Liefeld is bit of a
- 5:10lightning rod for kind of controversy in the world of
- 5:13comics, but I'm just drawn to this kind of kinetic, frenetic
- 5:16kind of energy that he brings to it.
- 5:18His plots are confusing. His proportions are a bit out
- 5:22there, but I just love it. I love a lot of this.
- 5:24Just the stuff that he does. I for some reason, I'm just
- 5:26drawn to it. It's like, it's like candy.
- 5:28It's like eating candy. It's not it's not the Sandman.
- 5:31For people that understand comics, they'll know the Sandman
- 5:34is like something that's a dense literature.
- 5:37This is pure Poppy Handy and I am here for it and I'm here
- 5:42supporting his new issues cuz he just recently he, he licensed,
- 5:46he'd gotten rid of the licensed Youngblood.
- 5:48Somebody else owned it or Co owned it.
- 5:50He couldn't make comics and now he's got it back and he is
- 5:53producing some comics. He's in his late 50s now, and
- 5:56when he first did this one he was probably in his early 20s.
- 5:59Wow. Yeah, OK.
- 6:01Young blood. Young blood.
- 6:02I'm so excited. I'm dripping here.
- 6:04I'm dripping. I'm leaking.
- 6:05I'm leaking. You're leaking.
- 6:07Yeah. It's funny because you are a
- 6:09very kind of, like, ordered. And, you know, your personality
- 6:13is kind of the opposite of this writer that you were just
- 6:16describing, who's kind of hazard and all over the play artist.
- 6:20Yeah. Which is not really your
- 6:21personal style. You're much more of a guy who
- 6:23always knows what's up at any given moment.
- 6:26So it's kind of interesting that you gravitate towards this.
- 6:28But you did say it was like candy, so I get that.
- 6:30It's like a sweet indulgence. It's like look at.
- 6:33This you like to get into. Look at this artwork from 1990
- 6:36too. I mean, there's a lot going on
- 6:38there. There's lots going on there.
- 6:40In fact, the book itself in is like here and then you flip it
- 6:44and it starts there. It's like a flip book, like he
- 6:46pulled out all the stops. So for those of us who don't
- 6:49know who Youngblood is beyond the artist that you also, I
- 6:54think it made your Spotify top list.
- 6:56He did. Youngblood the artist.
- 6:58Yeah, Yeah. That's right, right.
- 6:59So tell us about Youngblood the superhero, because I have no
- 7:02idea about any of it. It's a team of superheroes.
- 7:05Youngblood is a group and they're kind of like superheroes
- 7:07that grew up in the in the media age.
- 7:10So they're very media savvy. They've been media trained.
- 7:13They're they pay a lot of attention to the political kind
- 7:16of leanings of how of their missions and that kind of stuff.
- 7:19So it's it's interesting. It's gets a little confusing.
- 7:22I will say as a writer, he's maybe not the greatest writer in
- 7:26that things are happening, popping in all the time.
- 7:29It can be tricky and it, and it's kind of steep now in
- 7:32continuity. So I, I didn't follow it along.
- 7:35Like it's kind of come back sporadically over the years, but
- 7:37I'm kind of enjoying it. So I'm just enjoying going back
- 7:40and enjoying some of the artistry of Rob Liefeld and
- 7:44Youngblood. So I'm kind of relearning it
- 7:46too, along with our listeners and viewers.
- 7:48So I'm sure we'll be rushing out to pick up their physical
- 7:50copies. You got me into a you.
- 7:52Already hear the footsteps? I'm sure you can too.
- 7:55Yeah, so. That's it.
- 7:55That's Young Blitz. That's what I wanted to share.
- 7:57I'm excited about that coming into 2026.
- 8:00That is exciting. I want to hear some of what
- 8:02you're focused in on, but I want to do that after we do shot #2
- 8:06what? Do you say, yeah, let's, let's
- 8:07stick with our format, which has never failed this, by the way.
- 8:10Never never never 100% success rate on this format. 100%.
- 8:15Jameson triple, triple over here.
- 8:16I've got some Bushmills 12 year over here.
- 8:18Jay, cheers to you. Cheers.
- 8:22Shivers again. You got the shivers again.
- 8:25That's a double shiver. And that doesn't usually happen,
- 8:27but you know when it does, it's kind of special.
- 8:29Yeah. OK.
- 8:31Well, that's nice. I wish I had your ability to
- 8:33have certain shots leap over the tongue.
- 8:35I've never had that experience and I I yearn for it, Jay.
- 8:39In fact, that's maybe something I'm going to aim towards in 26,
- 8:42to try to have that experience, to try to step into your shoes,
- 8:45if only for the briefest of moments.
- 8:47You know, I come by it naturally.
- 8:49I know you do, but what is the technique?
- 8:51There's got to be something. How does liquid leap directly
- 8:54over the tongue? I mean, your mouth is not like
- 8:56some giant cave. I mean, it's like it's a regular
- 8:59sized mouth. So there's not a lot of real
- 9:01estate for liquid to just bypass an important part of the mouth.
- 9:05How do you do it? Here's what you're willing to
- 9:07reveal your secrets right here on the broadcast.
- 9:09We should really run this in super slow video to really get
- 9:13them. We want some.
- 9:14Of it a camera inside the mouth and witnessed it like a cresting
- 9:17wave of an ocean. I think what happened happens is
- 9:20think of the back tail of a dolphin and how it flicks like
- 9:24you know how it flicks. I think as there's exact timing.
- 9:26I think as the liquid's coming in, there's a flick and it just,
- 9:29it's enough to catch it in the right spot that all of it leaps
- 9:33over and it just leaps over the tongue.
- 9:36It tends it bounces off that tonsil thing in the back and
- 9:39that's what sends it down because otherwise.
- 9:41The old punching bag, Yeah. That's right.
- 9:43So that everything's involved in this thing, it's just the taste
- 9:46buds are completely missed. And that's, that's how this
- 9:49works. So you get a bit of the heat at
- 9:50the front. Yep.
- 9:51Then off the tonsil, then you get that burn straight down.
- 9:55None of it's wasted on the on the taste buds.
- 9:57Wasted on the taste buds. I don't know.
- 9:59I've never heard it quite put that way.
- 10:00I wonder if you had to use that when we were at Whiskey Global,
- 10:03whether we would have had as many positive interactions with
- 10:06the vendors as we did had you use that turn afraid because
- 10:09they might have been like, what are you talking about?
- 10:10The the whole point of whiskey is to let it swirl around the
- 10:12old mouth. Not with Jason Riley, folks.
- 10:14No, it bypasses. Yeah, the tongue all together.
- 10:17You get 100% of it right down the gullet.
- 10:20I love it. Yeah, I'm going to work on that.
- 10:22That's that's all of your tale. That's that's a really good,
- 10:25that's good imagery. I'm going to really focus on
- 10:27that next, next time we have a shot together.
- 10:29It's a hard snap. Think of it as a hard snap when
- 10:32you're doing it. So a few of them might, you
- 10:34might send liquid everywhere, but it's a hard snap.
- 10:36Perfect timing 26. OK.
- 10:39I like this for you. I like this for you.
- 10:41I like it for me too and I, I, you know, I'm now your
- 10:44apprentice, so here. We go all right.
- 10:46Here we go. What else is happening in 26 for
- 10:48you, Barry? What else indeed?
- 10:50My wife and I were going to Fort Lauderdale in February, which is
- 10:53going to be very nice. We're excited to do that.
- 10:55What are you most excited about to see in Fort Lauderdale?
- 10:58Dude, the beach culture. But there's something about it,
- 11:01Sam. I love it.
- 11:02Well, you know, I like wandering around.
- 11:04I like, you know, to be shirtless.
- 11:06I like to be the indirect sun for a period of time, not all
- 11:10day, but for a period of time. I like to lounge out on those
- 11:14loungers under the umbrellas provided.
- 11:17It's just like a whole thing. And then, you know, cooling off
- 11:19in the ocean. Yeah.
- 11:20What more do you want? You know, it's it really is
- 11:22great. And then when you get hungry,
- 11:24you go and get yourself some tacos.
- 11:26I mean, that's beach food. You know handheld food is
- 11:29perfect for the beach and tacos, especially in South Florida.
- 11:32That's top of the pyramid. Now when?
- 11:35You go down there, are you going to this year be doing, do you do
- 11:38the the tight bathing suit or do you do the boxer kind of things
- 11:42or do you have a combination of both depending on the date?
- 11:44Good question. Confidence.
- 11:45I'm curious. What you're oh, the confidence
- 11:47is high, but it's I know it is it's that high.
- 11:49The banana sling. Is that where you're going with
- 11:51this? Well, I haven't I.
- 11:52Have the Borat stuff just like are we going is it tight trunks
- 11:56or is it loose trunks in case any of our our audience is down
- 11:59there loose, OK. Yeah, it's loose.
- 12:01It's loose Trunks. Yeah.
- 12:02You got to? Yeah.
- 12:03No, I have. I haven't gone down that other
- 12:04Rd. but I'm not opposed to it. If I were to come across the
- 12:07right I guess design, I don't even really know.
- 12:11I see like lightning bolts on the side might be good.
- 12:14Lightning bolts, Yeah, that'd be good.
- 12:16That perhaps not a bad idea, 2027, maybe that's a goal that
- 12:20you want to get to. I don't know what the goal.
- 12:23I'm sure people do have goals of tighter bathing suits.
- 12:26Women do all the time. I'm sure not to objectify any
- 12:28door, but I think they're, you know, to be able to fit into
- 12:31these. It depends on where you are in
- 12:32your weight loss journey. You know, a lot of women are on
- 12:35that journey. Yeah, exactly.
- 12:36More so than men, I find, yeah. But I bet you that changes.
- 12:39But the I just heard today that yeah, not Ozempic, but what Govi
- 12:42one of the. One of those you have a
- 12:44knockouts. Yeah, is going to be in pill
- 12:47form and they're going to be the first one to offer in pill form.
- 12:49And that is a huge game changer, which we shift to the science
- 12:52portion of our show. Yes, a huge game changer for or
- 12:55get. Your lab coat on, Jay.
- 12:57Yeah, exactly. What do you think?
- 12:59I think pill form. Would you would you go in?
- 13:01What do you have? Pill form?
- 13:03Of it, well, perhaps if I were in need of of shedding some
- 13:06weight, I would perhaps would consider it.
- 13:08But I've heard that as well that the pill is not as effective as
- 13:11the shot. But not everyone wants to inject
- 13:13themselves. Yeah, that's the thing.
- 13:15I think that's a big hurdle for for many people.
- 13:17I think unless. You're already, you know, doing
- 13:19that. Yeah, exactly.
- 13:21If you're comfortable doing it, great.
- 13:22If not, I do see the pill form as being because it's like you
- 13:25said, it's a bit milder. Maybe you have to do it a little
- 13:27bit more regularly or or build that in with more, I don't know,
- 13:31willpower, whatever. But I could totally see that.
- 13:33I see a lot more people getting on that.
- 13:35And why not if you start to get a little out of control, yeah,
- 13:39at at some point, is it? Would you yourself?
- 13:41Would you you yourself if you felt like you were getting 5 to
- 13:448 lbs out of your comfort zone? Sure.
- 13:46Is that something you would look at?
- 13:47Yeah, I don't think I'd be too nervous to do that because it
- 13:51is. It's like pill form.
- 13:51It's not surgery. It's not anything that's so
- 13:53invasive. Yeah.
- 13:55And like, isn't it amazing to think that in, you know, 10
- 13:58years from now we may look back and go, it won't be complete
- 14:01like this, but let's just exaggerate a bit and kind of go
- 14:03like, remember what weight was a problem and now it's not because
- 14:06everyone we have to have access to it.
- 14:07Yeah, exactly. Watch the McDonald's start going
- 14:11out of business. Like stuff like that'll happen.
- 14:13They may not fully go out of business, but they may right
- 14:15size the number of fast food places.
- 14:17Because maybe you don't need to go 10 * a month, you're going 3
- 14:21* a month. What do you think?
- 14:22I think the only fat people left will be people who can't afford
- 14:26to get on the pill. And that's what it's really
- 14:27going to be. It's going to show it's going to
- 14:29be a bigger class divide. The thin people will be the ones
- 14:33who are a little more upwardly mobile.
- 14:35If you're really big and you don't have the money for what
- 14:37Govi or whatever you're still eating at McDonald's, 10 * a
- 14:41month wouldn't. It be great if it was part of
- 14:43healthcare regimen, if it got approved at some point then even
- 14:46more people like once it gets to be generic kind of like.
- 14:49Right comes all like. Like Viagra was a thing and now
- 14:53it's like short generic. Yeah.
- 14:55Just kidding. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:57Are you kidding? I know Wiener pills.
- 14:59Yeah. I mean, my stocking is stuffed
- 15:02with them. Yeah, if you need some, I got
- 15:05you. No.
- 15:06No problem. Perfect.
- 15:07All right, great. But yeah, those were like a big
- 15:09thing was like they were high-priced and then all of a
- 15:10sudden they came down because they went generic.
- 15:14I love Science Corner. We don't talk.
- 15:15About a life. And I think our audience needs
- 15:18us because if anybody you can trust to get under the covers,
- 15:21so to speak, of these, I like this.
- 15:22You know, breakthrough drugs, That's, that's what they're
- 15:25really tuning in for. It's a shame we don't talk about
- 15:27it more often. It's absolutely true.
- 15:31That's 2020. Let me ask you, just on the
- 15:33subject of pills. If I could give you a pill today
- 15:37and you'd wake up the next day and looking like one of those
- 15:39competitive on stage bodybuilders, one of those mass
- 15:42monsters that are completely shredded, would you do it if it
- 15:46was just a pill? I would take half that pill
- 15:49because I really don't like the look of the absolute shredded
- 15:53that I but I. Super skinny weight.
- 15:56If it's snappable, I'd snap that in half and then I'd be kind of
- 15:59halfway there, and I'm OK with that.
- 16:00How about you? You take the pill.
- 16:02You take two, I would take two. Yeah, I would.
- 16:04I would just be, I would have muscles coming out of my
- 16:07forehead. That's what I would want.
- 16:09That's that's what I've been working on.
- 16:10Really, I can't. Seem to get there.
- 16:12Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's amazing.
- 16:14As we get further it down into like into the future, it's kind
- 16:18of a wild that all these ideas are being kind of shrunk into.
- 16:22Can we make a pill out of it? Yeah.
- 16:24Now we have this pill that seemingly will melt weight.
- 16:27Will we also have a pill one day that'll grow hair?
- 16:30Will we also have a pill that will improve eyesight?
- 16:32Yeah. We already have pills for the
- 16:34boners, which is great. That was the first thing out of
- 16:37the gate because why? Probably it was a guy working on
- 16:41it. You know what I mean?
- 16:42This is, you know, so I don't know what my point was other
- 16:46than just we want more things to be cured with a single pill or
- 16:50two pills. Yeah, right.
- 16:51Jay Sounds good, Barry, I feel like.
