- 0:00I believe the Mets are going to give him a significant They're
- 0:02going to have a ton of money to spend.
- 0:04Why not put it in one of the top three offensive players in the
- 0:07league? We're going to be looking at
- 0:16Aaron Judge and saying that he can't win the big game, Michael
- 0:20Jordan said. I played 82 games.
- 0:22You don't see LeBron doing that. A game where?
- 0:25You got to go before. I told you, giant feet Saquon
- 0:29Barkley. At this
- 1:29Let's do it. You're listening to Jabba and
- 1:31the Mouth. Mouth. 631-672-3108 is the
- 1:43number to call. You're listening to Jabba and
- 1:48the Mouth. I'm your host Darrell Marks, my
- 1:50Co host Speedy PD and Jabba Chamberlain.

- 2:20Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we have a new show.
- 2:22I'm waiting for the guys to come into the frame.
- 2:25I'm wondering where everybody is.
- 2:27Go to our website now. There it is.
- 2:29Finally everybody appears on the the board over here.
- 2:32I don't know what's going on. We have a new system in the
- 2:35studios. I put up a new computer for
- 2:38Speedy because Speedy's cameras always too slow or whatever's
- 2:43going on with his camera. So hopefully it's a little bit
- 2:45better tonight. I, I know there's a lot of
- 2:48people that told me that Speedy's remember is not clear
- 2:51enough. So I wanted to see if this would
- 2:53work. Hopefully it does moving
- 2:55forward. If not, we'll figure out
- 2:57something else when we go to a break.
- 3:00Remember, ladies and gentlemen, throughout the weeks, over the
- 3:04last couple of weeks, we're we're kind of moving our show
- 3:07from Mondays and Thursdays to Mondays and Wednesdays.
- 3:10We're moving probably in a week from now.
- 3:14So I just want to let the fans know that after this week, we're
- 3:18no longer going to be on Thursdays.
- 3:19We're going to be on Mondays and Wednesdays really because of the
- 3:22football season, The football season's right around the corner
- 3:25and OTAs and then where there's just more going on on Thursdays
- 3:31for sports. So we want to stay away from
- 3:33that and make sure that we're doing our show on a time where
- 3:36people are going to be watching it.
- 3:38So Jabba, how was your weekend? By the way?
- 3:40Happy 4th of July 0. It was good.
- 3:42The weather held off so that was that was nice.
- 3:47It was warm, but All in all it was nice.
- 3:49Played a little golf and blew some things up and hung out and
- 3:54ate some good food. And yeah, it was, it was all
- 3:57around. It was, it was really good.
- 3:58Carter has all of his fingers and everything left too, so you
- 4:02can always count that as a win. I want to wish one person a very
- 4:07happy birthday. And he's a fan of the show.
- 4:09He's been a part of our network and really he's been watching
- 4:13every bit of our shows over the last couple of years.
- 4:17And that's Jamie Lee and he has been a fan of the show.
- 4:20He loves our show. So happy.
- 4:22I don't know what is he, 4243 Jamie Lee, happy 42nd or 43rd
- 4:28birthday. We really appreciate your
- 4:29support over the years. We love you.
- 4:32You're a good personality off air, love meeting and hanging
- 4:36out with you as you've come to our show live when we were at
- 4:38Miller S Ale House and we loved 40 and 42.
- 4:41So he's 42 years old and and going and ticking, ladies and
- 4:45gentlemen, as the Lee baby is still around.
- 4:48So thank you to Jamie Lee and all the time and and precious
- 4:52love that he gives to our show and, and obviously his
- 4:55personality off air. He loves our show and we really,
- 4:58we give him a shout out all the time.
- 4:59But thank you for really supporting what we do here on
- 5:02job in the mouth. So thank you very much.
- 5:04But I, I just want to say something.
- 5:06I, I was working all week and all weekend for, for 4th of
- 5:11July. Everybody tells me, well, did
- 5:13you celebrate 4th of July? It's your favorite holiday.
- 5:15I actually was not supposed to work 4th of July.
- 5:18I was asked at the last minute to DJA party and it was a crazy
- 5:23one. This guy had some fire firework
- 5:26show. It really was amazing and a lot
- 5:29of people came up to me. One kid actually came up to that
- 5:31kid actually knew who I was and he told me he watches our show
- 5:36Speedy. He actually, he listens to our
- 5:39show on the weekend Crunch on Saturday.
- 5:41And his father and his brother listens to our show throughout
- 5:45the our podcast. Well on Spotify and Apple.
- 5:48He actually knew who I was and actually was a big fan, actually
- 5:52took a picture of him. So Mark and his son John and
- 5:57Jimmy who were at the party, I'd like to give a shout out to them
- 6:01for supporting what we do on our show.
- 6:04So I, I didn't even know that he knew who I was until he came up
- 6:07to me and say you're you're the guy.
- 6:09You're the guy. So we really appreciate
- 6:12everything over the last couple of months, all the support of
- 6:16some of the Long Islanders that listen to our show.
- 6:17And if you don't listen to our show, shame on you, all you
- 6:21Islanders. And I'm not saying Islander
- 6:23fans, all you Islanders should be taking a look at least a look
- 6:27at our show or just listening to us.
- 6:30If you miss any of the live footage that we have on YouTube
- 6:33or all the different profile, you know, networks that we're
- 6:37on, you should be listening to us.
- 6:38And I want to give a shout out to Blue Eye.
- 6:39We're on Blue Wire, so all the fans out there that listen to us
- 6:42on Blue Wire, we like to thank Blue Eye for adding us to their
- 6:46network of 200 shows. They just had a Chris Long show,
- 6:50They've got Dwight Howard that got Cam Newton, they've got all
- 6:53the big shows, and now they have Jabba on them out.
- 6:55So we would like to thank, I'm sorry Blue Wire, I almost said
- 6:59thank you to Cam Newton, but Cam Newton is a part of the network.
- 7:03But I'd like to thank Blue Wire for really supporting what we do
- 7:06here at Jop of the Mouth. So it's going to be a crazy
- 7:09show. Let's get into the stories right
- 7:11now. The big story right now is the
- 7:13the All Star game. The American League and National
- 7:16League All Star rosters were released yesterday for next
- 7:19Tuesday's MLB All Star Game in Atlanta.
- 7:23The Dodgers had the most total players with five with Shay
- 7:27Otani, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith as starters.
- 7:31Clay Kershaw because Clayton Kershaw because this could be
- 7:34his last year as a Major League player, making his first ever
- 7:37legend selection, so he will be heading to his pond a possibly
- 7:41final All Star game. The Mariners had four total
- 7:44players including Julio Rodriguez who had fans, I'm
- 7:48sorry, who many fans did not believe deserve to make it
- 7:52having just A247 average, eleven home runs in 43 RBI has the
- 7:56Tigers who currently have the best record in baseball also had
- 7:59four players with Gleber Torres a big mistake for the New York
- 8:02Yankees, Javier Baez, Riley Green being named starters and
- 8:07screwball obviously screwball will probably be the the starter
- 8:11for the American League. The Yankees had three All Stars,
- 8:13Aaron Judge, obviously Jazz Chisholm AZAK, Jazz Chisholm and
- 8:18Max Freed. I was very surprised, but Jazzy
- 8:21has been very hot for the Yankees.
- 8:23He's the only one besides Aaron Judge hitting the ball.
- 8:25So it's been shameful watching the New York Yankees, but we'll
- 8:28get into that a little bit later.
- 8:30The Mets had three All Stars, Francisco Lindor being named an
- 8:34All Star, Edwin Diaz who's had a good season, and Pete Alonso
- 8:38making making it to the reserves despite many fans thinking Pete
- 8:43got robbed of being a starter over Freeman.
- 8:46Juan Soto was one of many notable All Stars.
- 8:50All Star game snubs with a lot lots of fans thinking that he
- 8:54deserved to be picked over Fernando Tatis.
- 8:59Well, I I mean it's AI believe the All Star game is a fan
- 9:04voting, you know, type of All Star game the same thing.
- 9:07And we could go on and on about who should have been named and
- 9:10who shouldn't have been named. The facts here is who's been hot
- 9:15over the last couple of weeks and and that's that's the way
- 9:19the fans are going to vote. Do I believe Jazz Chisholm is an
- 9:22All Star? No.
- 9:23Now, has he had a good season since he's come back from his
- 9:26injury? He's been pretty good.
- 9:27I mean, he's been one of the oddest hitters in baseball in
- 9:30the American League, especially in the infield.
- 9:32He's been hit. What is he since he's been back?
- 9:35I think he's hitting over 330. He's been unbelievable.
- 9:38So this is something that we want to see from Jazz since he's
- 9:42come to the Yankees and really when he was traded at the trade
- 9:46deadline last year. A lot of questions, questions.
- 9:48Is he going to handle New York? How is he going to handle New
- 9:50York? Well, he's handled it pretty
- 9:52well since he's come back from an injury now, can he do it in
- 9:55the playoffs? Could he do it when the Yankees
- 9:57need him the most? That is the question.
- 10:00But I'm not going to take shots at Jazz for what he's done over
- 10:03the last couple weeks. He's been very hot.
- 10:05So usually when you're a hot hitter, the fans are going to
- 10:08love you and and Jazz has been out in the open with his
- 10:12personal life. He comes out there, he speaks to
- 10:15the press, he's all over podcast and he loves to wear his thick,
- 10:20beautiful chain that he wears on the baseball field during game,
- 10:24you know, before and after games.
- 10:26So I I love his personality somewhat.
- 10:29I just don't like how he likes to throw his team under the bus
- 10:32when the team is not playing well.
- 10:35And he loves to praise the team when they're playing well.
- 10:38So I want to see more of his game develop as a Yankee.
- 10:42But as we all know over the over the next couple of weeks and
- 10:47really the next couple of months, we'll know what Jazz
- 10:49Chisholm is. And that's really what he does
- 10:51in the playoffs. The Yankees are going to be a
- 10:53playoff team. I know the Yankees are not hot.
- 10:55They're not playing very good baseball.
- 10:57We saw him this weekend against the Mets.
- 10:58We saw him against the Blue Jays getting their butts whipped by
- 11:01the Blue Jays. So they have not been good.
- 11:03The only person, the only two players that have actually been
- 11:06hitting is Jazz Chisholm and the one and only Aaron Judge.
- 11:09That's it. And that's the problem right now
- 11:11with the New York Yankees. So I, I do believe Max Freed has
- 11:14been probably the third best American League pitcher in, you
- 11:18know, over the last couple of weeks.
- 11:19He's the the last couple of starts have been, if he hasn't
- 11:22been as hot as he was when he was up, he was 7 and O in the
- 11:25beginning of the season. He's it's kind of taking a back
- 11:28seat from screwball and, and, and and what scruples done is
- 11:31just been so impressive. I mean, the guy throws ultra
- 11:35hard. He throws over 103.
- 11:36I think he had 104 one time this year.
- 11:39So the guy throws really and he threw that, by the way, in the
- 11:429th inning. OK, just think about this.
- 11:45This guy pitched a full game and at the final batter, the final
- 11:51hitter, the. Final.
- 11:52It was his. It was his last pitch, yeah.
- 11:54His final strike, he threw 103 mph.
- 11:57It it it's it's very, very impressive when you see a
- 11:59pitcher throw over what 80 something pitches, almost 90
- 12:03pitches and then strike out the side and do it with 103 mile per
- 12:08hour fastball. So I I expect Scrubal to be the
- 12:11starter for the American League. But again, you just don't know.
- 12:15You don't know how the vote, I don't know how it works.
- 12:17Does do the do the players vote that or do do their fans vote
- 12:21that? Managers vote the pitchers, they
- 12:23fan votes for the hitters. So so the manager.
- 12:25The start, the starter basically depends on where they fall in
- 12:28the rotation. Really.
- 12:29Got it. True.
- 12:30I got it. Yeah, because if they have a
- 12:31start that's Saturday or Sunday, they're not going to start a
- 12:34Tuesday All Star game. I expect Scribble to pitch no
- 12:36matter what, even if it's one inning, 2 innings.
- 12:39I expect he's been the best pitcher in baseball.
- 12:41I don't think you can argue that he's been the best pitcher in
- 12:43baseball for the last two years. I mean, Detroit, I remember at
- 12:47the, and I, I, if I'm not mistaken, at the trade deadline
- 12:50last year, there were conversations that should the
- 12:52Detroit Tigers actually trade scruple and, and actually add
- 12:57pieces to the roster, a young roster that has tremendous
- 12:59amount of talent and, and a great of a great farm system.
- 13:04But I, I guess obviously Detroit saw their team, saw the
- 13:08opportunities that they were going to have in the offseason
- 13:10and the money that they spent. They went after Glaber Torres
- 13:13and boy, oh boy, what a slam dunk Glaber Torres has been for
- 13:16the Detroit Tigers. By the way, if you look at their
- 13:20infield, it's it's pretty impressive When you think about
- 13:22the Detroit Tigers, the two best infielders right now, especially
- 13:27in the middle of the infield in the American League is Javier
- 13:29Baez and Glaber Torres when it comes to the bats.
- 13:32So just think about that when you think about Detroit.
- 13:35And nobody would have thought Detroit was going to be as good
- 13:39as they have been so far this season.
- 13:41They're the best team in baseball.
- 13:42They have the best record in baseball and it's impressive.
- 13:45They're in a division, obviously that is not very well, you know,
- 13:50well groomed as far as talent is concerned.
- 13:52Kansas City, obviously last year was a playoff team.
- 13:55Cleveland's always a playoff team.
- 13:57But they're in a division in the Central that's not very good.
- 14:01OK. But you look at the American
- 14:03League East, it's always, you know, it's always a run from the
- 14:06top to the bottom. You, you and everybody thought
- 14:09Baltimore was going to be great this year.
- 14:10Their pitching's falling off. They're not as good as everybody
- 14:14thought they were going to be this year.
- 14:15I didn't think they were going to be good because their
- 14:17pitching staff was not built to win.
- 14:19And and then the lineup has been hot and cold all season long.
- 14:22So that what's surprising right now are some of the players that
- 14:27didn't make the the All Star game and, and the snubs.
- 14:31And I, I know Speedy put up the snubs for me to look at and I
- 14:35will get into the National League in the American League.
- 14:37I know everybody's going to sit here and say, well, what about
- 14:39this and what about that? There are a couple of stubs that
- 14:41really stuck out to me. And the one guy that a lot of
- 14:44fans are wondering why he didn't make the playoff, he didn't make
- 14:48the All Star team. That's Juan Soto, Fernando
- 14:50Tortis. He's been up and down all season
- 14:53long. Remember, Tortis is a guy that
- 14:55used steroids and a lot of people don't like him, But Titis
- 14:58has been a really, really good outfielder since he's he's been
- 15:02moved from shortstop to the outfield and he's a good bat.
- 15:06Now, is he hitting better than Juan Soto?
- 15:08No Juan Soto has been unbelievable in the last three
- 15:11weeks. He's been the hottest hitter for
- 15:14the New York Mets. What I don't like about Juan
- 15:16Soto all season long is he doesn't play.
- 15:19He didn't play in the beginning of the season as hard as he's
- 15:22played over the last three weeks, and I think that cost him
- 15:25a snub. Now, that doesn't mean he
- 15:27doesn't make the playoffs. He doesn't make the All Star,
- 15:29the All Star team because how many weeks are left before the
- 15:32All Star game? It's next week, all right?
- 15:33So there could be injuries. There could be guys that are
- 15:36going to back out at the last minute.
- 15:38If anybody backs out, Juan Soda is going to be moved into that
- 15:42lineup. He's going to be moved as as
- 15:44probably a bench player or a guy, a reserve player.
- 15:47So I expect Juan Soda one way or another to make the team.
- 15:51I know everybody thinks Freddie Freeman shouldn't have it,
- 15:54shouldn't be the starter. He made the team and he's the
- 15:57starter. A lot of people think Pete
- 15:58Alonso deserves to be the starter of the National League.
- 16:02And if Peter Launch has been unbelievable, you saw what he
- 16:04did against the Yankees over the weekend.
- 16:06He beat the hell out of the Yankees, smashed the ball all
- 16:08over the field in in City Field. The thing is, Freddie Freeman
- 16:13won a championship last year. Freddie Friedman has been the
- 16:16best first baseman in baseball for the last 10 years, and fans
- 16:19have a love fest for him. Those Dodger players, there's a
- 16:22lot of love with those that share.
- 16:24Otani is he? Say whatever you want.
- 16:26He's been, give him a lot of credit since he's gotten on the
- 16:28mound, since he's gotten a chance to throw the ball, He's
- 16:31throwing the ball pretty hard. His pitching is starting.
- 16:34He's starting to find the strike zone.
- 16:35He's starting to look like the old Shay Otani when before he,
- 16:39he tore his UCL. Now I don't know if Shay Otani
- 16:42will ever be the same as a pitcher.
- 16:43We all know what he can do with his bat.
- 16:45He's been since sensational really the last, I would say
- 16:49last month, month and a half, he's been the hottest hitter in
- 16:52baseball. I I mean, if you look at his
- 16:54numbers, there's they're unbelievable.
- 16:56He's stealing. He's stealing bases again.
- 16:58And you expect Shay Otani to just get better and better as
- 17:01the season progresses? Because I believe the Dodgers
- 17:04are going to get healthier. Their pitching is going to get
- 17:06healthier. And that's really been the story
- 17:08right now in the National League is it's not the fact that the
- 17:11Dodgers aren't the best team in the National League.
- 17:13The fact is the Dodgers have been the unhealthiest team in
- 17:18the National League. Speedy.
- 17:19Yeah. No, they've had.
- 17:20Already Java. You said it last week, 16
- 17:23different guys start a game for them.
- 17:24This year they've had 14 total guys on the in the injured
- 17:27listed once cycling out throughout the season.
- 17:30And that's what makes it impressive with the development
- 17:32system they've put together with their pitchers.
- 17:34Obviously, we joked about it a few weeks ago with how much Dave
- 17:37Roberts has pitched position players.
- 17:38So they're trying to preserve them as much as possible, but
- 17:41they're they're making it work now.
- 17:42They got swept by the Astros over the weekend, but the
- 17:44Houston Astros have also been very hot to the last month of
- 17:46the season. They're the best record in the
- 17:48American League. So not not anything to write
- 17:50home about. But yeah, the Dodgers starters
- 17:52are still definitely very strong.
- 17:53I I think the argument is Pete Alonzo with double the amount of
- 17:56home runs versus Freddie Freeman is the argument that people were
- 17:59making. But yeah, Freddie Freeman is
- 18:00still the better player all around.
- 18:01So it's not it's not like you can't really go wrong with that
- 18:03kind of thing. And again, he's still very
- 18:06deserving. And the Dodgers are going to
- 18:07bring that national prowess as well to, to Atlanta.
- 18:10Obviously, Freddie Freeman being in Atlanta too, where he played
- 18:13most of his career up until the last four years.
- 18:16So I guess maybe that had something to do with it too.
- 18:17Maybe even the Braves fans are also probably voting for him to
- 18:20try to get that void because Matt Olson, I mean, he's at a
- 18:22good, good year, but I'm not like the All Star caliber year.
- 18:26I think he made it as a reserve, but he wasn't going to be a
- 18:28starter. So I'm sure there was a push for
- 18:29that too. And that's where the fan vote
- 18:31versus the manager vote like we were talking about comes into
- 18:33effect. But Freddy Freeman's had a great
- 18:35year. Pete Alonzas had a great year.
- 18:36Just glad, glad they both made. As far as Soto, he definitely
- 18:39has better overall hitting numbers than Tatis does.
- 18:41So maybe there was a case for that to get in.
- 18:44But yeah, he wasn't going to be a starter for all the Mets fans
- 18:46were thinking, OK, he's been hot, so he's going to be a
- 18:48starter. No, the Cubs guys, Pete Crow
- 18:50Armstrong, Mets legend, and Kyle Tucker, definitely deserving of
- 18:53that. And then James Armstrong's a
- 18:54young. Kid, why do you say Mets legend?
- 18:56Because he's killed the Mets? No, because he used.
- 18:57To be a prospect, he was actually traded for bias at the
- 18:59time, so it's funny to think. Now neither.
- 19:01Of them are with the Mets and they're both All Stars, but
- 19:03that's a whole other story. But why are you?
- 19:05Crying. You got Juan Soto, you got a
- 19:07team right now that's as good. I know right now, over the last
- 19:10couple of weeks they haven't been as good as they were in the
- 19:12beginning of the season, but they're still going to make the
- 19:14playoffs. There's a very good chance that
- 19:16the Mets could get hot or they make a trade at the trade
- 19:18deadline that can give an additional pitching arm that
- 19:21they're going to desperately need moving forward.
- 19:23Because as we spoke about this job over the before the season
- 19:27started, the Mets put all their eggs in one basket.
- 19:30And that was Juan Soto's basket, which was $768 million worth.
- 19:35And they didn't put it in the most important part when it
- 19:37comes to their pitching. They could have went after Max
- 19:40Free. They could have went after some
- 19:41of these better pitchers that were available in the offseason.
- 19:44There were two of them that went to the Dodgers.
- 19:46They had a chance to land one of these pitchers.
- 19:48Instead, they put all their eggs and Juan Soto's basket and I
- 19:52believe Jabba. That cost the Mets an
- 19:54opportunity to really take a long lead, an early long lead in
- 19:59the National League, where maybe at the All Star break, no matter
- 20:01how bad the Mets have played over the last couple of weeks,
- 20:05everybody would have been chasing them.
- 20:07Yeah, I think it's you knew what you were going to get from.
- 20:12So you're going to get great at bats.
- 20:14You're going to get, you know, he doesn't give away, you know,
- 20:18free outs. He's going to have a one to one
- 20:20ratio usually on walks to strikeouts.
- 20:22He's going to have an OPS upwards of, you know, 900 to
- 20:261000 and it it towards the end of the year.
- 20:29It'll be interesting to see if how his home run numbers
- 20:33translate because he's at 21 right now and he hit 41 if I
- 20:37recall last year at Yankee Stadium, which was his career
- 20:40high. I'd like to see the Yeah, I'd
- 20:42like to see the splits between home and away.
- 20:43Last year I didn't really delve into that too much, but I mean,
- 20:46there's a lot I I can see why, you know, obviously he has a, a
- 20:52snub per SE. I mean, his his numbers didn't
- 20:55start off great and I think that obviously kind of hurt him.
- 20:57But I mean, obviously being in New York and having that fanfare
- 21:01and in the last three, I'll give it like, yeah, three weeks to a
- 21:05month. He you know, he's obviously been
- 21:06a different player. The Soto shuffle came back a
- 21:08little bit. You know, that swagger where,
- 21:11you know, sometimes that happens where, you know, you you come
- 21:14into it and, you know, you forget what made you successful
- 21:18because everybody's like doesn't look like he's having fun.
- 21:19He's not doing the Soto shuffle. And then when he kind of I don't
- 21:22know if did a self reflect or a reboot or whatever you want to
- 21:26call it, where he's like, all right, this made me successful.
- 21:29You know, people like that it as who I am and that's that, you
- 21:32know, the kind of player I am. So there's a lot of other dudes
- 21:36that aren't names that are having great years, like Suzuki
- 21:40from the Cubs. It sucks.
- 21:41He's behind Otani because he's sitting.
- 21:43He has 25 homers and 77 RBI. Yeah, he was one of those almost
- 21:47fun. I think a lot of the
- 21:48outfielders, I think in general, George Springer was another one
- 21:50too. That was a pretty big snub,
- 21:52having a very good bounce back year in Toronto.
- 21:54And yeah, he's in. 281 with 16 and 53.
- 21:57He's got ten stolen bases, almost a 900 OPS another one.
- 22:00Is anybody crying? About that why is everybody
- 22:03crying about snubs? Because if I was any of these
- 22:05players, I'm enjoying my family, I'm going I'm going to Hawaii,
- 22:09I'm going to a Cayman Island. I don't care if I'm playing in
- 22:12the All Star game. Who cares if they're a snub?
- 22:15They get a chance to spend time with their family for a week
- 22:17instead of or two weeks where they don't have to go and play
- 22:20in those games to put themselves, their bodies on the
- 22:22line just for the fans. I think I'm just want to rest
- 22:25and and give my give my an opportunity.
- 22:28Remember, there's 162 games job, but we talk about this all the
- 22:31time and you don't really get a chance to spend it with your
- 22:33family. Why would you want to go to the
- 22:35All Star game when you have a chance to spend it?
- 22:37You know, during the the next week, two weeks where you could
- 22:40spend there's. There's multiple reasons why.
- 22:43First, it's an honor. Second of all, it helps your
- 22:46contract. Third of all, you make more
- 22:48money and when you go in, now you're a four time All Star.
- 22:52You're this, this and then that helps bolster your number of
- 22:57getting paid. So yes, some people, you know,
- 22:59they like to well, and it used to be you could get out of it
- 23:02and say you're not going to play now.
- 23:04Now you don't have that option. They they nixed that probably
- 23:07like that was probably 810 years ago because the guys were like,
- 23:10yeah, I'm going to go to the All Star game, but I'm not doing
- 23:12anything. You're getting credit.
- 23:12For it and do nothing yeah, yeah, then you'd.
- 23:14Still get you'd still get the bonus, you'd still get all the
- 23:17perks. You just didn't play and you
- 23:19have to be hurt now or like if you're selected as a pitcher,
- 23:23you still go. But obviously like school, he he
- 23:26he started yesterday. So it'll be interesting to see
- 23:29kind of how they they played that off.
- 23:31I would I would doubt that he's going to start it because then
- 23:34that'll give him like a week. But you never know.
- 23:37And we've seen how it's come to bite people in the ass
- 23:40sometimes. Remember when Brad Penney
- 23:41started, he had that great first start through every pitch at 100
- 23:44and couldn't get anybody out in the second-half.
- 23:46So Giabo. Juan Soto made his money.
- 23:49So you think Juan Soto cares that he was snubbed?
- 23:51He made $768 million, so I don't think he cares if he's in the
- 23:56All Star game or not. Yeah, but I.
- 23:57Mean at the same it just depends.
- 23:59Like to be an All Star is to be an All Star.
- 24:00I don't care. Does he care?
- 24:03I don't know that that's guess you'd have to ask him that.
- 24:06But yeah, it's, it's it's something to, you know, to be
- 24:10proud of, to to be in that situation.
- 24:13And it it's still kind of weird because I remember a year and it
- 24:16was right after we won the World Series in 2015 with the Royals,
- 24:19Omar Infante was hitting 189 as a second baseman.
- 24:22He was leading the AL and vote gets yeah, I think that.
- 24:24Was a weird year that was like where the Royals and Cubs were
- 24:27like stabbed like this ballot stopping that whole year and
- 24:30Aston Russell was an All Star starter at shortstop for no
- 24:33reason. He's numbered very.
- 24:35League average yeah as nuts and it's so I mean and there's
- 24:39there's some teams that are so bad they have to have one
- 24:41representative so it's you know you're kind of you're kind of
- 24:44stuck that's the. Case this year though, because.
- 24:46The Pirates representative is Skins, obviously.
- 24:49The The Rockies representative is Hunter Goodman, who's a very
- 24:51good young all kinds of. Catcher.
- 24:53No, I. Mean yeah, but they they're not
- 24:55taking more. They're going to have to have at
- 24:56least one and obviously skins and and they're going to have
- 24:59one, one player that's deserving of making it.
- 25:02And I mean, it's like I said, lesser names like Junior
- 25:05Caminero from the Rays, you know, he's got 21 homers and 57
- 25:09stakes and he's an 800 OPS. So there's literally, there's a
- 25:14lot of choices. But I think 2 it comes down to,
- 25:18you know, the likeability and, and some of these other names
- 25:21like, you know, just Andrew Abbott is not a name that people
- 25:25know, but he's 7:00 and 1:00 with 15 starts for the Reds with
- 25:29a 215 ERA. Not, not a big name.
- 25:33Another guy, Joe Ryan has 18 starts.
- 25:36He's 18, four with a 27, but he's with the Twins.
- 25:39So, you know, it's not, it's not the sexiest thing when you know
- 25:42you're in those, those smaller markets and how you know that
- 25:47that following or whatever. I if it was, if it was literally
- 25:52like I would, I would reverse it if, if this was me, like let the
- 25:56players decide who the starters are and still keep the fans
- 25:59involved, but then let them do the Subs because then it's going
- 26:02to be their favorite players. And I think that would be that
- 26:07would make more sense to me of having the players pick the
- 26:11starters and then have the fans, because now then you get, you
- 26:14know, obviously more guys that it's, oh, he's a fan favorite.
- 26:18And but the ones that are going to play because obviously the
- 26:20starters aren't playing the whole game because the game
- 26:24isn't like it used to be where whoever won, they got home field
- 26:27advantage in in the World Series.
- 26:28So leading to the 80. Three win Cardinals having home
- 26:31field advantage against the Tigers in O 6.
- 26:33I think the. Importance right now going into
- 26:35the All Star game is who is going to stay hot after it and
- 26:39who's going to make those trades at the Because right after the
- 26:42All Star game, what is it like 2 weeks after it's the trade
- 26:45deadline? It's very fast now.
- 26:47Baseball, August. August 1st.
- 26:49Yeah, Rob Manford or Manfred has decided over the last couple of
- 26:54years that he wanted to move the trade deadline a little bit up,
- 26:57a little bit closer after the All Star break.
- 26:59So it gives teams a little bit less of a time to try to
- 27:03transition. Maybe.
- 27:04Obviously there's a waiver, waiver wire at the tail end of
- 27:07the season where there are teams that drop players and they could
- 27:10add players. And also over the years we've
- 27:12seen teams actually make trades before after the trade deadline,
- 27:17which makes no sense. I don't get the baseball trade
- 27:20deadline. If it's over, it's over.
- 27:22Why do these trades actually go through?
- 27:23Yeah, it's the. Revocable waiver clause?
- 27:25I don't get it. Yeah, it's technically you see
- 27:28it. Actually, you see it a lot in
- 27:30like older guys that have big contracts.
- 27:31Well, basically nobody's obviously going to do it, but
- 27:34they're technically like they did with AJ Burnett and they put
- 27:38him technically on the waiver wire to see if anybody would
- 27:40pick it up. But obviously that's 9.99 times
- 27:45out of 10 that it never happens. But yeah, you you see it every
- 27:48once in a while. So.
- 27:50But yeah, it used to be the week like that, that week of August,
- 27:54but now the trade deadline ends, the 31st, I think it's like.
- 27:57Jabba The only exciting thing when it comes to the All Star
- 28:00Break is is the Home Run Derby. That's all I care about.
- 28:03I don't care about the game. I never watch the game past the
- 28:06three innings. I want to see what the starting
- 28:08pitchers are going to do. And then I get to see Aaron
- 28:10Judge because he's, he's going to be up maybe twice, maybe
- 28:13three times, depending on who they're going to move and how
- 28:16they're going to rotate the rosters during the game.
- 28:19So that's the only time I want to watch the All Star game.
- 28:21I don't really care about anything else but that.
- 28:24I, I, to me, I, I think that when you look at the All Star,
- 28:27the All Star game, you'll get a chance to see some of these
- 28:29players when the World Championships, what do they call
- 28:33that? The World Cup of baseball in at
- 28:35at the end of the season, where in the offseason when you get to
- 28:39see Team USA and and team Team Canada and team Puerto Rico and
- 28:43team Dominican Republic, you're going to get a lot of you're
- 28:45going to get a chance to see a lot of those superstar players
- 28:48in the All Star games because these guys are the best players
- 28:51in the world. So that's what I'm looking
- 28:53forward to get a chance to see some of these players in action
- 28:55playing with one another. But I, I really that's the only
- 28:58time I really care about these All Star games.
- 29:01Is is the World Championships now OK, you.
- 29:03Always. You always give dudes a hard
- 29:06time for not participating in in the dunk contest in basketball.
- 29:09So what? What's your opinion on judge
- 29:11never doing other than one year? I will.
- 29:16I'll answer you right now because John Carlo Stanton did
- 29:19it one year too. I thought.
- 29:21The thing is, after you do it one year, besides Pete Alonso,
- 29:24who loves it, he loves being center of attention.
- 29:26This is what Pete Alonso loves. He loves being there smacking
- 29:30balls and everybody saying polar bear and all that other crap
- 29:33that he does. His little stomach roll or
- 29:35whatever the hell he does. That's great for him and I, I'm
- 29:38not, I'm not taking shots at Pete Alonso because he loves to
- 29:40compete. The thing is, over the years,
- 29:44and we've heard this about home run derbies, as soon as you play
- 29:47in the home run, as soon as you hit in the Home Run Derby, your
- 29:49swing is short. You're not.
- 29:52You don't have the same swing after the Home Run Derby.
- 29:55We've seen players have problems after.
- 29:57I remember Hamilton. Hamilton won the Home Run Derby
- 30:00in in Yankee Stadium. I remember it.
- 30:02No, he didn't. He didn't win because of the
- 30:04old. Rule.
- 30:05He didn't win because they reset all.
- 30:06Right. Whatever it it never, never the
- 30:09less after after the Home Run Derby, Hamilton in for like
- 30:14weeks couldn't hit a home run. He had problems.
- 30:16He had like two or three home runs in the first in three weeks
- 30:19after the All Star break. And you you don't want to see
- 30:22that hurt your swing. We've heard that in Home Run
- 30:24Derby. So Pete Alonso don't care.
- 30:27And by the way, last year after the after the Home Run Derby,
- 30:30Pete Alonso was pretty, pretty good.
- 30:32But the year before that Pete Alonso couldn't hit a home run
- 30:34for a month. So I think Aaron Judge is
- 30:37protecting himself. Obviously the injury situation
- 30:40and he's he's looking for the long haul.
- 30:43He wants the Yankees to go to the World Series.
- 30:45He wants to win a championship. So I understand what you're
- 30:48saying. You want to see Aaron Judge face
- 30:50again, you know, face Pete Alonso, you want John Carlos Dan
- 30:53to face Aaron Judge. You want to see Julio Rodriguez
- 30:56and Vladimir Guerrero. You want to see all these
- 30:59superstar guys go at it one at a time.
- 31:02The problem is when you look at the game and you look at
- 31:05obviously the fans, some of these players don't care about
- 31:08going into a Home Run Derby and trying to oppress and press.
- 31:11All the fans that are watching on television are watching,
- 31:13watching in the arenas. All they care about is winning
- 31:15the World Series. And by the way, Aaron Judge
- 31:16hasn't won a World Series since he's come up with the New York
- 31:19Yankees. So I think he's more entitled to
- 31:22under, I mean, I think fans are more entitled to complain about
- 31:25it. But I think Aaron Judge as a
- 31:27player and as a as a captain, he cares about winning
- 31:31championships. I don't think he cares about
- 31:32winning home run derbies, Sean. Browning in the comments section
- 31:35too. Goldie deserved a nod as a
- 31:36reserve. Yeah, his numbers are definitely
- 31:38close. He fell.
- 31:39He fell off, Yeah, he fell off a.
- 31:40Little bit, that's where, that's where.
- 31:42Jonathan Aranda, a young kid for the Rays, got the other reserve
- 31:45spot. So obviously Vlad was going to
- 31:46be the starter. He's been the best by far of
- 31:48first base. But yeah, his numbers are not
- 31:50far off from Miranda. So that it definitely was the
- 31:52case. And Jamie Lee, Toronto's been
- 31:53killing it this year as well. You know, they're probably the
- 31:55biggest surprise team in the American League this year.
- 31:57Goldschmidt was going to be fool's gold all along.
- 32:00Unfortunately his bat speed has still gone down from last year.
- 32:04He had a real hot first couple of month and a half really, and
- 32:08then he saw the splits. Goldie cannot face off against
- 32:14same side pitching. That's what's that's what's
- 32:16going on right now. So he's he's going to have to be
- 32:18a platoon guy the rest of the way.
- 32:19And they're probably going to do a platoon with him and Ben Rice.
- 32:22Ben Rice will play some catcher right now and he's going to play
- 32:26some first base and that's what they're going to do.
- 32:27Goldie's not an All Star, but he could have gotten one of those
- 32:30like memorial positions that they gave to Clayton Kershaw
- 32:34because he is a former MVP. He is a great player entering
- 32:37his late 30s. Maybe he's not.
- 32:38I don't think he's retiring at the end of this year, but he's
- 32:41the type of guy that you would give that I that.
- 32:42How many, many times have they given that out?
- 32:44No, it's the first time I've ever heard this that.
- 32:46Kind of thing. Yeah, the Legends pick.
- 32:48This is the first year you see that.
- 32:50Arrow. It's a Legends pick that Clayton
- 32:51Kershaw gets to be in the All Star game because it's his last
- 32:54year, hey. What?
- 32:55You know what we should do? If a fan is a legend, they
- 32:58should be able to play in the All Star game.
- 33:00Hey, he's a legend. He was.
- 33:02He tried to RIP Mookie Betts his arm off and yeah, in the Yankee
- 33:06Stadium, you know, during the playoffs, got him in the game.
- 33:09Let's let's play the outfield. Let him play centerfield.
- 33:13Have the kid. Have the kid who corralled the
- 33:15most legend this. Legend might crush.
- 33:17OK, I should be, I should be the dancing phenomenon over there,
- 33:22you know, in, in the outfield when the Home Run Derby's going
- 33:24around, you know, I'll put on like a wig and, and I'll, I'll,
- 33:28I'll dress like Rex Ryan did, you know, at the press
- 33:31conferences when he was wearing a mop on his head And maybe
- 33:35somebody could try to hit me in the ass or something and
- 33:37that'll, that'll give you 500 points.
- 33:39So I mean, baseball's trying to find a way to, you know,
- 33:43interest people to watch the game.
- 33:46Now, the interesting part of the All Star game is really the home
- 33:50run derbies in and all the different things offset from the
- 33:53game. I don't care about the game
- 33:55because honestly, the only people that care about the game
- 33:59are the pitchers. I I really do believe that
- 34:01because they want to, they want to look like, hey, I'm going to
- 34:04strike out this guy. I'm going to strike out the best
- 34:05hitters in baseball, screwball. I remember Harvey when he
- 34:08started in the All Star game and how hard he was throwing.
- 34:10He was throwing like a hundred 101.
- 34:12Remember that. And Matt Harvey was like The
- 34:14Dark Knight and everybody want to see Matt Harvey and he what
- 34:17did he have two innings with no hits and six strikeouts and
- 34:20everybody's he's the All Star. He's the All Star in VPI.
- 34:23Think that's all I want to see. I want to see screwball.
- 34:26I want to see the the elite pitchers, the the, the
- 34:29screwballs or whoever starts for The Who starts for the National
- 34:32League right now. Who's the hottest pitcher right
- 34:33now in the National League? Who is going to be skiing?
- 34:37Wheeler, Wheeler. That was obviously the.
- 34:38Second one, Wheeler just had a great start.
- 34:40Yes, by the way. I want to, I want to say
- 34:41something about Zach Wheeler, Mikey C, if you're listening to
- 34:44the show, right, Mets legend, yes, I want, I want to say
- 34:47something to him because over the years, my argument with
- 34:50Mike, we were trying to go through the Mets and, and there
- 34:53are 4 superstar pitchers. We had Steven Matz, we had the
- 34:58Thor, we call him, you know, Mr. Noah Syndergaard.
- 35:02We had Matt Harvey, The Dark Knight, Zach Wheeler and Jacob
- 35:05degrom. They were, those were their
- 35:07pitching, that was their pitching staff.
- 35:09When everybody was talking, it was an unbelievable pitching
- 35:11staff for maybe a year when they went all the way to the World
- 35:13Series. Now when me and Mike were
- 35:15arguing, he said Jacob degrom was the better of the pitchers.
- 35:19And I said Zach Wheeler is going to be in a long haul.
- 35:22If, you know, over the next 10 to 12 years, I believe Zach
- 35:26Wheeler is the best pitcher out of all of them.
- 35:28And if the Mets don't keep them, which I believe they won't
- 35:30because they're going to be too demanding to sign Matt Harvey or
- 35:33Thor, they're going to walk away and let Zach Wheeler go on to to
- 35:37another team, another organization where he's going to
- 35:40dominate. And boy, oh boy, Mikey, see, 99%
- 35:43or 90% always right. You were wrong, buddy.
- 35:46And I love Jacob degrom. The best pitcher of that
- 35:49pitching staff, it's Zach Wheeler.
- 35:51It's not even an argument. Zach Wheeler over the last five
- 35:54years has been unbelievable in the National League.
- 35:56Jacob degrom has had great the last.
- 35:58Five years because he's been hurt.
- 35:59Yeah, but if you were better. Zach Wheelers numbers are better
- 36:04than Jacob the ground because Jacob the ground don't play that
- 36:07many games. Jacob, the ground is never.
- 36:09The last five years. Yeah, but if you look at their
- 36:11career, Zach Wheeler has been a better pitcher.
- 36:14If you look at the numbers, Zach has been better.
- 36:17He has been and he's played in more games, more strikeouts.
- 36:20I think he's been the more dominant pitcher in his career.
- 36:24And if you were to ask me right now, none of them are Hall of
- 36:26Farmers, but he's playing in the National League East.
- 36:30That's what he's playing in. Now we go back and you you talk
- 36:33about Jacob the Grom, where is he playing it?
- 36:35He's not in, he's not in the National League anymore, so.
- 36:38And he gets the stats up there. We talked about talk about the.
- 36:42Games talk about the games because you don't play a lot.
- 36:45Jacob the stat. The.
- 36:46Stat for the Hall of Fame. We talked about it the other
- 36:49day. Speedy was if you have a WAR
- 36:51between 50 and 70, you're usually a Hall of Famer.
- 36:54Jacob degrom sitting at 48.2 is that player sitting at 39.9.
- 37:00So despite the fact that he hasn't played WAR is a
- 37:03cumulative step that means he's been nine wins more valuable.
- 37:06That's a seat like two seasons, almost two seasons worth of wins
- 37:10more valuable than Wheeler. You forget Wheeler was hurt a
- 37:12lot earlier in his career. And I stayed away from him in
- 37:16fantasy drafts for years because every year they said, oh, this
- 37:19is the year he's going to blow out his arm again and that's it.
- 37:22But he's been healthy and he's been pitching many, many more
- 37:26innings than anyone ever thought.
- 37:27And he's getting close. I don't think he's a Hall of
- 37:29Famer. You have to.
- 37:30I didn't say I don't think Jacob degrom is a whole offense, but
- 37:33degrom is real close to being a whole.
- 37:35He doesn't play enough. He doesn't, he might not make
- 37:38it, but he's close. He's close.
- 37:39I I don't think he plays enough. I think if you look at both
- 37:42guys, Zach Wheeler and Jacob degrom, if you would ask me
- 37:45right now if I'm AGM of a team in an organization, I'm taking
- 37:47Zach Wheeler of a Jacob degrom right now two years younger.
- 37:50Slam dunk. Absolutely.
- 37:52And if you remember the the Zach Wheeler trade, he was traded for
- 37:57Carlos Beltran. If you remember, as the New York
- 38:00Mets obviously decided to part ways with Carlos Beltran, he
- 38:04went to the Giants. And Zach Wheeler was a talented
- 38:07young man in the Giants farm system.
- 38:10Could you imagine if Zach Wheeler was still with the
- 38:12Giants, that organization, with all the great pitchers they've
- 38:15had over the years? And by the way, that
- 38:16organization has had dime pieces over the air.
- 38:19Lincolnsum, remember him? He was a he was a great pitcher.
- 38:22Who was the other one? That was Matt Kane.
- 38:25There were a lot of them. Bob Garner.
- 38:26Yeah, there were a lot of them. And, and, and Zach Wheeler has,
- 38:30if you look at his who he is and what he's done over the last
- 38:33couple of years, he's been pretty dominant.
- 38:35He's one of the best strikeout pitchers right now in baseball.
- 38:38And he's playing in the National League East.
- 38:40The National League East, you can argue is the hardest
- 38:42division in baseball right now. I don't think you could argue
- 38:45that the Braves are in that division.
- 38:46Philadelphia, the Mets, even the Marlins have played pretty well
- 38:49over the last couple of weeks. So I, you could argue that's the
- 38:53best division in baseball. And Zach Wheeler is the best
- 38:55pitcher in that in, in that division.
- 38:58So I don't think you can argue that anymore about him.
- 39:01And I, I'm not saying I don't like Jacob degrom.
- 39:03Jacob degrom is a sensational pitcher.
- 39:05I just think that Jacob degrom is an injury prone player and
- 39:08he'll always be considered that. And his time with the Mets has
- 39:12been it really, really was because the Mets couldn't hit in
- 39:14front of him and Zach Wheeler over the years when he was with
- 39:17the Mets, he couldn't stay healthy enough to pitch for the
- 39:20Mets. That was the the up down thought
- 39:22of where Zach Wheelers. And by the way, if the Mets
- 39:25could go back in Brody Van Wagon and can change the the the
- 39:29twister game and he twisted another way, he would have kept
- 39:33Zach Wheeler. That was a big mistake by the
- 39:35organization and the Will Ponds. And I think they're licking
- 39:38their lips watching what Zach Wheeler's done for the
- 39:40Philadelphia Phillies. Yeah, they actually.
- 39:42In the last five years since he's joined the Phillies, he
- 39:45actually has three years out of the six years that he's been
- 39:47besides the short year, 10 or more strikeouts per 9 innings in
- 39:52in and he leads baseball this year, 11.5 strikeouts per nine
- 39:55innings this year, 39.3 with, like you said, fish with WAR is
- 39:59probably mostly with the time with the Philly.
- 40:01So he's going to need more and probably both pitchers are going
- 40:03to have to get to 2000 strikeouts in order to get
- 40:06there. So yeah, you're looking at a
- 40:07pace of both of them, probably two more years, maybe three more
- 40:10years. But Wheeler at the current
- 40:11strikeout pace might get there next year.
- 40:13He's at 1773. It's.
- 40:15Wheeler Wheeler sitting at 3.8 WAR.
- 40:18That's tied for third in all of baseball with Garrett Froshay
- 40:22just behind Scubal and Skeens. That's how good we're talking.
- 40:27Zach Wheeler is at age 35. So I would say they did mess up
- 40:31pretty badly selecting The Dark Knight Knight and Thor of that
- 40:35that that grouping that had two almost Hall of farmers.
- 40:39Maybe, you know, maybe they changed things later on.
- 40:43Could have been three, could have been three.
- 40:45It's pretty wild. But now they're OK because they
- 40:48spent $765 million on Juan Soto and 6868.
- 40:52My mistake. Errol you you said that he
- 40:55should go home and stay with his family on the All Star break.
- 40:58But but Errol the the uncle Stevie in that contract made
- 41:03sure that because it was such a bad time that he had a Yankee
- 41:06Stadium. His family that his family is
- 41:08taken care of. He is his family has a designer
- 41:11jet to get to wherever they want.
- 41:13They'll go down to Atlanta. Grand old Jabba you are.
- 41:16You going to send me my designer jet from the Jabba Chamberlain
- 41:20jet where I could jump in and and fly wherever I want?
- 41:22I mean, I'm sure you have a jet somewhere, right?
- 41:24Jabba? You invested in Jabba Air?
- 41:27Jabba. Air, Yeah.
- 41:28No, I, I just, I just call Al Palagonia from Apollo jets
- 41:32Apollo. Jabba.
- 41:34I'm snorting now if Jabba were to get a custom.
- 41:37Jet, he would. Get it with a Nebraska logo.
- 41:40He's the dude. You obviously watch Knick games,
- 41:42right? Of course.
- 41:43Yeah, yeah, he's the dude. That sits right next to Spike.
- 41:46I farted. Really.
- 41:48Oh. Jabba, just so you know, a
- 41:49little teaser for later, we got a Nebraska story and dial it up
- 41:52later tonight. Yum Yum.
- 41:55Just give you a couple of guys we didn't mention that were
- 41:58snubbed. Joe Ryan didn't make the All
- 42:00Star team. The Twins ace, he is awesome.
- 42:03He's got like a 2.6 ERA this year.
- 42:05He's got more strikeouts than innings pitched.
- 42:08He's over 100 innings pitched. Let's face it, this guy should
- 42:11have been in the All Star game. There's no question Julio
- 42:13Rodriguez made the All Star game with a sub 700 OPS.
- 42:17That usually means you're not a good starting player in Major
- 42:20League Baseball, especially if you're considered a power
- 42:22hitter. I don't really think that he
- 42:24should have made the team in a year when Mookie Betts didn't
- 42:27make the team with similar struggles.
- 42:28Doesn't make any sense to me. Trey Turner didn't make this
- 42:32team even though he's having an amazing year because of the
- 42:34stacked situation behind Lindor and Ellie Delacruz.
- 42:37I still would have found a way to put that guy on.
- 42:40Jeremy Pena didn't make the team.
- 42:41He know we know he's hurt, so he's going to be replaced.
- 42:44There will be some injury replacement guys, some guys,
- 42:47even if they're not on the IL, you know, like I know Jose
- 42:50Ramirez got some bumps and bruises.
- 42:51He may not come in. There's going to be some guys
- 42:54like that. So we'll see some of these guys.
- 42:55I'm sure Soto will eventually make this team.
- 42:57I, I said. That and I, I want to give a
- 42:59shout out to Alex Bregman. Bregman, who's had a really good
- 43:01season. He deserves absolutely an
- 43:04opportunity to play on this team.
- 43:06Now he's been up and down, but when he got hot early in the
- 43:09season, he was batting at one point, I think at 3:40.
- 43:12He was, I don't think anybody wanted to pitch to him.
- 43:15He they were pitching around found him, but I mean, he's
- 43:17taking a couple of steps back. It's been back and forth, but
- 43:20Bregman has really been a great addition to the Boston, the
- 43:24Boston, Boston Red Sox. I'm about to say Bruins, but I'm
- 43:28thinking about hockey over the last couple of weeks because
- 43:31this offseason is going to be big for all the New York teams.
- 43:34As a matter as a matter of fact, the trade deadline.
- 43:36I mean, not the trade deadline, the offseason free agency market
- 43:39and everything that's gone on with the Rangers and the
- 43:41outages. But that's that's past tense.
- 43:43But going back to this, I Bobby Witt junior I you'll expect to
- 43:46be one of these, you know, American League chances to win
- 43:52the MVPII think he hasn't had a really good start in the season.
- 43:56I expect the second-half to be a lot better.
- 43:58Bobby Witt is one of the best infielders in baseball and I
- 44:01think we'll see a lot better when it comes it comes to
- 44:04statistics offensively in the second-half of the season.
- 44:07The one guy that I've been very impressed pressed for and, and,
- 44:11and the guy that I've mentioned is the infield of the Detroit
- 44:15Tigers. And that's Gaber Torres, who has
- 44:17been unbelievable. If you look at Gaber Torres, his
- 44:20numbers, Gaber Torres hasn't been this good in maybe the
- 44:24first season or first two seasons with the New York
- 44:27Yankees. Think about this. 279 at bats,
- 44:3147 runs, 77 hits, nine home runs.
- 44:34This is a second baseman, OK 44 RBI's, four stolen bases and
- 44:39batting 276 right now. And his OPS8O6I mean he's he's
- 44:46doing he's doing what you wanted him to do with the New York
- 44:49Yankees that one year where he had forty home runs and he hit
- 44:52like 13 of them with the Baltimore, the Orioles park.
- 44:57I remember that he thirteen home runs against the Orioles.
- 45:00Besides that, he he has not had that power season.
- 45:04I could see Glaber Torres if he continues moving forward at
- 45:08second base right now for Detroit, he can hit probably
- 45:112526 home runs give you close to 100 RBI's this year.
- 45:15And this is slam dunk contract for the Detroit Tigers where the
- 45:19Yankees are probably saying, even though Chisholm has had a
- 45:22pretty good season since he's come back, Claybur Torres has
- 45:25been a better player and been more healthier this season than
- 45:29Chisholm has. And Claybur Torres has been up
- 45:31and down with injuries. Remember that UCL tear that he
- 45:34had with the Yankees when he he slid into home plate at home
- 45:37plate and he was out for practically a whole season.
- 45:40So I, I expect Claybur Torres to earn himself a lot of money in
- 45:44the offseason. If I'm not mistaken, he only saw
- 45:46what was it a year contract? One year it was one year
- 45:4815,000,000. He's going to earn.
- 45:50Himself a lot of money I I could see a team giving him 353536
- 45:55million if he continues playing the way he is he's been
- 45:57unbelievable and he's been pretty good defensively right
- 46:01now for the Tigers too, which is one of the better defensive team
- 46:04defensive infields in all the baseball right now speedy
- 46:07that's. The killer, isn't it?
- 46:08Yeah, Speedy, how bad were Glaber Torres's defensive
- 46:12metrics with the Yankees? Because they made us feel like
- 46:14they were so bad that they had to get rid of this guy.
- 46:17Yeah, they. And they were highly touting him
- 46:19as a prospect for a while defensively for what he was able
- 46:22to do, that he just wasn't good enough to play shortstop.
- 46:24But he still was supposed to be rising as a second baseman.
- 46:26And it never took off whatsoever.
- 46:28And it got really bad where it got in his head enough.
- 46:30And like you said, the range factor has not been nearly to
- 46:33that same level. And he's been definitely a lot
- 46:35better since going to the Tigers.
- 46:36Maybe, again, there could be a confidence thing.
- 46:38Errol and I were talking about it before the show with earlier
- 46:41today with Anthony Volpe and I was comparing it to Amed
- 46:43Rosario, like Amed Rosario supposed to be that same kind of
- 46:45thing and Volpe even better to that level.
- 46:47Neither of them were able to get it going defensively whatsoever.
- 46:50Sometimes it just gets in your head like that.
- 46:52But fish range factor is a whole different like a skill set type.
- 46:55How about the return? Of Ronald Lacuna this year, I
- 46:57mean, he's not giving you the power numbers that you would
- 47:00expect at the trade at the, at the really the trade deadline,
- 47:03which is a couple weeks away, the All Star break.
- 47:06PS nine home runs in 18 RBIs, but he's batting 331.
- 47:09He, he came back from those horrible injuries over the last
- 47:12two seasons and everybody thought, is he going to be the
- 47:14same player? Is he going to be the same
- 47:16offensive player that we remember?
- 47:18And Acuna obviously doesn't have the speed he once had because he
- 47:21has four stolen bases probably at the All Star break over the
- 47:25years, he'd have 20 to 23 stolen bases.
- 47:27He's, he's one of those electrifying 512 players.
- 47:30He doesn't have that anymore, But he still can, he could still
- 47:33play, you know, he could still play the field.
- 47:35What, what, what we've seen over the last couple of years and,
- 47:38and he could still hit the ball all the way.
- 47:40He has when it comes to batting average and, and hitting per,
- 47:43you know, per hit, what is it, 331?
- 47:46So every three hits every three at 3.1.
- 47:49Every. Three, yes, so.
- 47:50Every three at bats he's getting a hit so and he's only.
- 47:53Been playing since like I think the beginning of June because
- 47:55he's had that injury that he came back from late.
- 47:58So if you project his power numbers are all the power
- 48:01numbers are there, he's actually going to be in the Home Run
- 48:03Derby. And the speed, Yeah, he doesn't
- 48:05he. Doesn't even have 200 at bats
- 48:07yet. Yeah, so.
- 48:08He's at was it was it nine home runs with nine home runs?
- 48:11Yeah, nine home runs in one month.
- 48:13If you did that for the entire season, you're a 40 home run
- 48:16hitter. So the power I think is still
- 48:18there for him. The speed on defense, the speed
- 48:20on the base pass. They're not going to ask him to
- 48:21run anymore unless it's like a big game.
- 48:24Does he have? An error yet this year.
- 48:26I don't think he has an error yet in the outfield.
- 48:28That's a good. Question, I don't even think he
- 48:29does. He's a huge shot in the army so
- 48:32if that team just had the year from hell, at least they get the
- 48:34host of the All Star game and enjoy Acuna being back, that's
- 48:37for sure. He's had to carry.
- 48:38A really bad offense. So even when they were healthy
- 48:40like that, nobody else is really hitting on that team outside of
- 48:43Olson again. They've had bad.
- 48:46Luck. They've had bad luck over the
- 48:47last two seasons. They just can't stay healthy.
- 48:50And again, they lost a lot of big names for free agency.
- 48:54A lot of guys came up. Max Freed.
- 48:56You lost Max Freed, who could very much be the starter of the
- 49:00American League right now in the All Star Game.
- 49:02Now, he won't be because Scrupal will be, but he's one of the top
- 49:05three pitchers right now in the American League and they had a
- 49:08chance to sign him in the offseason and then let him go to
- 49:11the Yankees. Now, obviously the Yankees paid
- 49:13him a lot of money, but he he was one of their best players on
- 49:16that roster. So now he's he's starting for
- 49:18the Yankees. He's a big time superstar with
- 49:20the New York Yankees and they're trying to figure out who their
- 49:22number one guy is because none of their pitchers could say
- 49:25Alvie. Yeah, no.
- 49:26Errors yet that yet this year for a Cooney only had two last
- 49:29year as well, even off the before the injury as well.
- 49:31So and. Freed.
- 49:33Is tied for fourth in WAR for pitchers with Blubich behind
- 49:38great defensive player, great defensive player.
- 49:40Yes, yes, Scubal Crochet and Hunter Brown ahead of them.
- 49:44So he's a top five guy. They gave up a top five guy for
- 49:48nothing. Nothing.
- 49:49That's that's that's what I mean.
- 49:50Top ten in the entire league and he's 8.
- 49:52The Braves too. When when you're leading hitters
- 49:54in 273, it's you're struggling, yeah.
- 49:58Because he doesn't even qualify, right?
- 50:00He doesn't even qualify yet, so it doesn't even count.
- 50:03But the Braves are more bad season.
- 50:05No, no and. And again, you look at you look
- 50:07at the look at the opportunities right now with baseball and and
- 50:12the All Star game. You're excited.
- 50:13If you're a Braves fan, you're excited because you want to see
- 50:15this. You want to see an you have an
- 50:17opportunity to get a chance to see the Braves a host an All
- 50:22Star game. I always, I always went with the
- 50:24All Star game. I always mix it up with, you
- 50:26know, the Home Run Derby and, and the trade deadline, because
- 50:29I don't really care about the All Star game.
- 50:31I really don't. I just care about what happens
- 50:33at the Home Run Derby. Who's going to compete in the
- 50:36Home Run Derby? How many home runs are going to
- 50:37be hitting the Home Run Derby? And then the celebrity game,
- 50:40which I watch all the time, which is so ridiculously stupid.
- 50:43And watch these guys laughing and joking on the baseball
- 50:46field. What pitcher, what former
- 50:48pitcher is going to be bitching? And it's like a softball game.
- 50:51And it's, it's so funny, It's so stupid.
- 50:53Anyways, you always have. The staple of Jenny Finch,
- 50:57though, that's true. I love Jenny Finch.
- 50:59I love her Java. You ever?
- 51:00Do any of those after you retired?
- 51:03I played in a rec league softball one time with a bunch
- 51:07of buddies, all right. Ladies and gentlemen, we call
- 51:09this segment sounded out. Take a roll.
- 51:12Here, Jake Quelin. Where's Jake Quelin at?
- 51:13No, Jake Quelin here. Do you mean Jacqueline?
- 51:16Let's sound it out. What you call?
- 51:18Me. Sound it out out OK.
- 51:23Guys, welcome to another edition of Sound It Out.
- 51:28This is the game where we can see if Errol can pronounce some
- 51:32complicated names. And we're going to stay with
- 51:34baseball today. Errol.
- 51:36We're going to go into a couple of All Stars.
- 51:38You have these things are more familiar, at least the first one
- 51:42is. Let's see if you can figure this
- 51:44one out. Here.
- 51:46Tonight, right here it is. Sound it.
- 51:50Out. Former all.
- 51:54Star for the Braves Jar ear Jergens.
- 51:58That is incorrect. Let's get the sound.
- 52:02Oh my God, I forgot they changed this whole thing.
- 52:05There it is. Sorry, I kicked off the wrong
- 52:07answer. There it is.
- 52:08I have no. Sound all right?
- 52:10It is actually pronounced gergens.
- 52:13They're the J in the the the the G in the last fish wears pain
- 52:17the hard G jar gergens. Oh for one Errol.
- 52:23But it's always a great chance to come back is 2 more to go.

- 52:36out. This guy won an All Star game in
- 52:401960. OK, Bill.
- 52:51I have no idea this was. A trick question, Errol.
- 52:56It was 1960 when people didn't care how to pronounce French
- 53:00names. It's just Bill.
- 53:01Mon Bucket. Are you kidding me?
- 53:05This is. This is.
- 53:05I'm not. It's a trick one.
- 53:07I gave you some tricky ones today.
- 53:09Thank you. This is not obscure.
- 53:11Russian ones. This is a.
- 53:12Grumpy old man. Yeah, I would be grumpy if I
- 53:16was. Oh, and two, let's see if you
- 53:17can't get the next one. We have one more Errol.
- 53:21Let's get the music on. Time to sound.
- 53:24It oh kidding me. What the hell, This guy?
- 53:28'S nickname Errol. He wasn't an All Star, but this
- 53:30guy's nickname was the Human Eye Chart because his last name
- 53:36looks like an eye chart. Doug Watts.
- 53:45What the hell is this? This is.
- 53:47This is Doug Goosh. Yeah, that.
- 53:51Is Doug Goosh. Doug Douche, GW.

- 54:37broadcaster. Kevin or Ray?
- 54:39Oh, Kevin. He'll join us.
- 54:40And by the way, Kevin, I'm sure he has his own thoughts about
- 54:43George Pickens, as we heard CD Lamb and George Pickens on a
- 54:46broadcast recently and CD came out and I wouldn't have ever
- 54:50thought this to to be true. CD Lamb said there's no one or
- 54:54two, it's all once. And he says now you got to
- 54:57contend with two number ones on one roster.
- 55:00Well, we'll see how that works for the whole season with George
- 55:02Pickens. Doesn't see enough balls,
- 55:04especially up his ass. And if he does, maybe somebody's
- 55:07going to bend over and give him a nice little poutang pie, as
- 55:10Speedy would say. That's why Kevante Turpin had to
- 55:12do what he did, because he knew he wasn't a number 10.
- 55:15Absolutely. By the way, Speedy, I haven't
- 55:17used this drop in a long time. Go share a.
- 55:19Pew Tang pie with the rock, anyways.
