- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: Step, welcome, man.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: It is that time of the week, the Sooner's on SI Podcast.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: This might be the only time I know it.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: This is episode 301.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: Hope you guys enjoyed our extra special episode 300.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: Last week, they got throughout a little bit by Jon material and Dr. Shin, but we are back.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you can't stay breaking it all down, we've got our man.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: The myth, our leader, the legend, fresh off a in and out road trip to SoFi to watch a fantastic football game, John Hoover, who power the ramp, how are they treating how SoFi?
- 0:44[SPEAKER_04]: SoFi's amazing, uh, I stopped over in Vegas for a quick tour of the sphere, uh, little lady by the name of Dorothy Gale took me around, uh, rent the rainbow, I guess.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_04]: That was awesome.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_04]: I got to see if you've not seen this fear or not don't know anything about it.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_04]: Look it up.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_04]: It is unbelievable.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_04]: It's like aliens drop down and left us a gift and then took off.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, the highlight of the weekend was the game.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_04]: Rams took down the cults and yes, I did come back with some new gear.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_04]: I only buy my official team gear at the stadium.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_04]: So all my Yankees gear that I've got.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_04]: I got it at one of the two Yankees stadiums.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_04]: So on and so forth.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and my man, AD Mitchell, if the cult's cut you, just know you can sleep on my couch anytime.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_04]: I got space for you in my house and my heart.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Fair enough, uh, I would say myself a lot of money or maybe not if I had to go to London every time I wanted to.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: Because here's the thing, I wouldn't like stop buying it.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: I would just go to London a lot more.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: We also got our man Carson Field Carson.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: How did the off-week treat you, my friend?
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: It was good, like we talked about last week a little busier than expected, that will happen when your quarterback's injured.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: But this kind of feels like a by week to notice respect to our friends in Kinto Hio, but excited to be back out there if nothing else shouldn't be much of a game.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: We'll look forward to it, though.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Kent State got Aubrey mentioned by Brent Minibles and zero questions, which good job everybody for not asking a Kent State question, that might be the Latami mentioned Kent State today on this podcast.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we're recording at 1150 in the morning on Wednesday.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: technically morning, which means that Ryan Avery by the time you're listening to this could be over the moon as the cubs are staring down a big time match up with Milwaukee Brewers or he'll be mad at me for even bringing up baseball either way, Avery good morning, good afternoon, good night, how are you?
- 2:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing good as long as we can get this thing wrapped up in 2 hours and 10 minutes.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: will be good.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: It would be better.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think we'll be okay.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: Please be good.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_03]: It should be a good day for baseball for sure.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: Day one of the playoffs was excellent.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's October 1st.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: October in baseball win.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: And the camp done to OU Texas is on.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not on.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: No matter how many people got asked about it on Monday night.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma does have another game before then it's against the Kent State Golden Plashes.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do this at the top.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: They're really bad.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: That is the extent of our Kent State talk.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: All right, it's really Michael Hawkins week because of Kent State, Oklahoma last year they had the by going into Texas.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: This year, not quite, but basically, it's kind of like a double by a lot of working on themselves, a lot of, they're not gonna say this.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: They're gonna do a one day walk through on Kent State.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: Everything else is either gonna be on focus on Oklahoma or Texas this week.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a good week to have that happen as I mentioned last week.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: All the material news, all that stuff.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it is Michael Hawkins week.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: And just a funny quirk of the year didn't really ask about Michael Hawkins during the spring to Ben Arbuckle because we only talked to him after the Crimson Combine.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: Haven't really had a reason to ask Ben Arbuckle about Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: to this point throughout fall camp in the first few weeks because it's all been material focused all that stuff.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: So who this is the first weekend that we really get to see Michael Hawkins run the offense.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: He came into that temple game that Carson I were there for.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: Basically I feel kind of bad for him.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: It was run run and throw on third and long, which is a condensed playbook because you're just trying to run clock all that stuff.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: I did not hold that game for or against Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: What have you heard this week, who that stuck out to you from Britt Venables, the players on Monday night, been our buckle on Tuesday.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's our first chance to really dive into a lot of Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: development kind of conversation here this season.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't want to be a doomsayer, but you guys remember who asked the first question at media day of Ben Argockle and what that question was, right?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_04]: Tell us what your backup plan is for your backup plan.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_04]: Tell us about how you're evaluating your QB3s between jet-new and wet-new power.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_04]: Guys, we're on play away.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_04]: from finding out the answer to that question.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_04]: I know, I said, that's just a joke.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you mentioned the questions to him.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_04]: So we will move on with Michael Hawkins.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_04]: Can't wait to see him perform as the starter again.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's been since the bowl game.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_04]: And you remember who the quarterback's coach was for the bowl game, Ben Arbuckle.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_04]: He's got a little bit of a background.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_04]: to know what Michael Hawkins is capable of in an actual football game.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_04]: So he could, you know, plus he's got the film from when he was the starter.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_04]: And when he got all the backups and I'll let's go.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_04]: I look for a big day on a conservative sense from Michael Hawkins.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of hand-offs, a lot of short throws.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_04]: They're not going to reveal anything.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_04]: They're back in that preseason non-conference mode, where the next game is Texas.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_04]: And you can't be putting anything important on film.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_04]: But the fact of the matter is you've got to get Michael Hawkins some meaningful and important snaps.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_04]: You've got to get him developed quickly for the role that he's in right now.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_04]: And with John material, walking around with a bandaid on his thumb, a bandaid doctor, Shen, are you kidding me?
- 5:56[SPEAKER_04]: Come on now.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_04]: 40 years I've been dealing with this thing.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_04]: I still can't get doctors to figure it out.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_04]: My thumb is jacked up.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_04]: Anyway, he, he, it's a big, like you said, a big week for Michael Hawkins.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_04]: uh... to get out of this week healthy uh... i think you're going to see a completely different completely different michael hawkins than what you saw last year why because a he's got a quarterback's coach that got to actually uh... last year how many did he have zero until you know toward the end uh...
- 6:30[SPEAKER_04]: He's got an offensive coordinator, right?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_04]: Who knows what he's doing?
- 6:33[SPEAKER_04]: Didn't have that throughout most of the last year.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_04]: He's got healthy wide receivers, including one that he's getting back from the IR this week, Giovanni Gibson.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_04]: He's got a stable run-in-bex offensive line as playing better than it certainly was last year.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_04]: I look for big things this week from Michael Hawkins.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_04]: And then we transition to next week.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_04]: And we see what Texas just how good Texas defense is.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_04]: We all think it's fantastic.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_04]: They've put a lot of stuff on film that shows they're really good Texas, but against a healthy Oklahoma offense, even if it's Michael Hawkins, I don't think next week's going to be 34 to 3.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the offensive line to something Brickville's touched on it.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: They're getting healthier.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: We talked to the vet you.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: We will on Monday night.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: He said this by week was huge for that.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, it's a Kent State defense that gave up almost 400 yards of rushing to Florida State.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that it becomes a pretty interesting, like, how do you approach Saturday type situation on one hand?
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: This is if it is Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: against Texas and we'll talk about some of the tier stuff in a bit.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: This is your one shot to get him as fully confident running everything on a Saturday, all that stuff.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: We saw a week one that been our buckle liked having Jon material run all those reps with the ones that receiver to get those guys ready for Michigan.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: The flip side, the other thing Oklahoma's offense needs to accomplish is get all running back, any running back.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: whoever wants to step up and run the football into rhythm, how would you like balance the running game, Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_02]: and in everything that I think Oklahoma wants to check off before getting everybody out of there to keep everyone healthy for Texas.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the most important thing.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think finding that balance, flashing that ability of Hawkins to throw down field, because we really, as you mentioned in the intro, haven't seen that.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he came in and temple, he threw three passes.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously weren't really running the offense at that point.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Hawkins admittedly did not look great in his short time and temple, but a lot of that can be attributed to the starters' route of a game.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: This was a game where you was leading by 39 points.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: But early in this game, I do want to see some downfield shots.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: The guys like Deonberg, guys like Kianthus Lewis, finding Jiren can't down the field.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see that.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see that you really can't lead this offense.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be against a really not great defense.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: But further down the line running game wise,
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: If we don't see production out of Jade in this game, I'm not sure we'll see production out of Jade in the rest of the year.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of his time to shine.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: See, like, hey, are you actually going to contribute to this team?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: Or were you just in an IL get kind of just taking advantage of the money you got?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Want to see that?
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Tory Blaylock obviously didn't have a great game against Auburn, but he's really shown flashes in previous games.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: I thought against Temple, he was excellent, even against Michigan.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: He showed that he could be a really good running back, and I still think he will be for years to come for this OU team.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to see just a variety of guys, X Robinson.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: We saw him lay against Temple, he looked good.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: Barnes has gotten better since a really slow week one.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: But at the end of the day, it is Kent State.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: I love the media training that OU's players have absolutely received saying, like, yeah, this is the focus.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're a good team.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, this is not a good team.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't even a simpler Illinois state.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: This is a really bad team that the spread is 40, I think 46.5 last I looked for a reason.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: There is very little of, yeah, we need to be can stay.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: It is more keeping your guys healthy, seeing what works for Hawkins, seeing what the running game can do before playing a defense that is widely considered top five, top 10 in the nation.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: We saw up in our buckle, uh, talk a little bit a bit about like, what, what's that process when you're tweaking an offense slightly from a tier, slightly for Hawkins, because you're going to run the same system, but but you, so those guys have had their same strengths.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: Feels like this will be another moment.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I has to say, like, test for been our buckle, because it's a kid state that you go out there to and put a bunch of points on the board, but
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: Just another moment where we get to see his coaching chops kind of shine through and this is the fruits of Ben Arbuckle and John Kuzieski that offensive analysts who has come in, who's basically the QB's coach, as far as this was a big 10-month development project for those two guys.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: They had worked with material previously.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited to see
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: Can we see a leap forward from Michael Hawkins's game?
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: Is he anticipating throws over the middle of the field something that Arnold and Hawkins were both like scared to do at any point last year for a lot of different factors?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're muted, baby.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's going to be fascinating to watch.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it was interesting to hear Ben Arbuckle talk about how that process is sort of going to bleed into the game.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: And that it's not just something you can be set on.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_03]: going into the game and and set on in practice you've got to sort of get a feel for how he's going to perform in the game and what works what doesn't things like that so that's going to be really interesting you know Michael Hawkins and John Retier aren't the exact same type of quarterback in a lot of ways
- 11:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about how bad Kent State is.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: They're every bit as bad as advertised.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_03]: Haven't won an FFS game since 22.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_03]: The season went Oklahoma and Kent State last played.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_03]: I believe they won their last game that season against Buffalo.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_03]: But this is not a team that's going to really press them.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_03]: But it's also, I don't think you can hold back too much for Texas, although there will be some of that.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, the hope for them is that they'll get John material back, but you've got to get Michael Hawkins in case you need him against Texas and case you need him late in the season.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: feeling comfortable in this offense, getting into a rhythm and developing and in-game rapport with these receivers, who are just so much different from what he had a year ago.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_03]: You can point out things about Michael Hawkins game that was a problem last year.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: The turnover, things like that.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_03]: He didn't have any weapons around him, especially in the passing game.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_03]: He's got that this time, and that's why I think it'll be better if nothing else, but I do think we'll see improvement for Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I agree, Ryan, and Ron Chapman, the thing that stands up to me about John Kuzioski is the relationship that he's got kind of inextricable right now with Ben Arbuckle and Ben Arbuckle, yesterday mentioned that in his press conference that he says, you know, I can turn the quarterbacks over to him.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_04]: I can go over, I don't have to spend all my time with the quarterbacks.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_04]: I can go over with the tight ends or the wide receivers or the running backs or the
- 13:51[SPEAKER_04]: and interact with their coaches and the players over there, I don't have to be focused constantly on the quarterback.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_04]: So what that tells you is that coach coos may be one of those guys that's a little bit of a behind-the-scenes not to
- 14:05[SPEAKER_04]: bring back the Wizard of Oz, but he's kind of the one pull in the levers back there behind the curtain, you know, not entirely not all on him, but I'm just saying he's maybe an unsung MVP of the coaching staff, a guy who gets back there and and works with the, you know, technique on the quarterback.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_04]: We saw him in spring practice and some of the drills they were doing were they had the bags and they're doing all kinds of
- 14:26[SPEAKER_04]: you know, dipping in and out of the bags and hitting them with those cushiony footballs, you know, and they're smackin' them, and quarterback's got to keep their eyes down field, and they're the timing out there for all.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_04]: Kusieski was the guy that was right there in the middle of all that stuff running the drill.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_04]: So he's one of those guys, maybe he's like, uh,
- 14:43[SPEAKER_04]: a quarterbacks of on in terms of teaching.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_04]: And frankly, if he's if he's that responsible for, you know, cam wards development and John Matthier's development and if we see something special out of Michael Hawkins, who knows how long he's gonna be here.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm always gonna come along and try to hire him away really quick.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's something I'd ask is we hadn't really, we had talked to preventables about our buckle and crews and he always kind of like groups them together as he did the fricking frack relationship that Danny Stutzman and Jared Canick had, but it was one of those things that yeah.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: our buckle basically said director player ops player personnel at Western Kentucky quickly figured out not only is he uh someone who actually knows what he's talking about but he's good a good teacher very quickly and it just kind of stands out because uh we all remember at least um who've been able who were there for the latral era.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: as little as it was.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: South the trail, he'd be over there by the quarterback's on that stuff, but he's a guy that while a head coach in a head coach at North Texas that had a Graham Harrell and a Mason Finals, they would have bring guys along.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: South himself had not ever been a dedicated quarterback coach.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: Ben Arbuckle has been that and I thought it just stood out during fast forward to like fall camp.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: There would be moments where I'd be down trying to get pictures of the offensive line on one field.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: They would blow the whistle.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, we're going to a special team's period on the other far practice field and sometimes I'm like, hey, I'm not really going to get all the way over there.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: Carson's over there.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to come hang out by the quarterback and just watch these guys throw for a little bit and whether Arbuckle,
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: it was funny that was when they were being like really really slow with deon birks early and fall camp and they would have deon birks staying in the back of the inzone and then binabuk would stand like in the core of the inzone and they would have the quarterbacks throw to them and our buck would have overarching like
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, we did this or we need that, but it was Coach Kuzioski that was always right behind material, right behind Michael Hawkins, you'd be like, that was a good rep or that was a good rep, but let's do this or hey, we need to watch our footwork here, and it just kind of takes me back.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: Avery, you probably remember this is immediately after the quarterback chain or the coordinator change last year.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: Excuse me, just talking to
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: I believe at the time it was Jackson Arnold and when Kevin Johns was elevated him immediately just saying like hey my footwork immediately improved because it was something that Kevin Johns just wanted to come in and control what you can control.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: You've had that now from two guys that have built an offense and in a system and have worked together and all that stuff.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like that can only be a help for obviously John material but Michael Hawkins based off that kind of coaching the system of co-to-year last year.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the, the, our buckle Kuzioski relationship is clearly paid dividends with virtually ever quarterback that they've had.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_03]: You think about the success and the elevation that we saw in Cam Ward.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously John Matier and I'm not saying that Michael Hawkins is going to be either of those guys and certainly won't be Saturday.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_03]: But I think the a fact that he's had this level of coaching for an extended period.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_03]: And we saw with that level of coaching could do last year, even in a short period with some of those things that you mentioned with Jackson Arnold.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I think no doubt he was a better quarterback when he was working closer with Kevin Johns than he was before that.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_03]: And you make me feel a little bit when you say
- 18:16[SPEAKER_03]: me and who I'm going to well I won't speak for who but for me when you say that I'm I'm thinking back to 99 and 2000 cover in this team with Seth Latrell's the full back but it's
- 18:32[SPEAKER_03]: It can definitely help a guy to have a quarterbacks coach who knows not to set the trouble didn't know what he was talking about, but when you know that a guy has a track record of developing quarterbacks and has been in it for as long as those two have been and the way that they're able to work together, I think it's going to pay a tremendous dividends.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_03]: You talk about that temple game.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you can take a lot.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: out of that at all from what we saw about Michael Hawkins because he's not running the offense, not that I anticipate him getting much of a pushback from Kent State's defense this week, but I think you're going to see a quarterback who is much better prepared to contribute to this team in SEC play now versus what we saw last year when he flash moments, but on balance struggle.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: And Carson to it's he's got Michael Hawkins just got our bookless corner.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's got clues in this corner.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: He's also got John material.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: I thought some of the interesting stuff yesterday too was something I had never really just processed and thought about, but in this situation, material learn behind camward.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: So he knows what it's like to be in Michael Hawkins issues and.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_02]: it's also not one of those situations cars and where this isn't like last year where one guy replaced another and they're directly competing like when materials healthy it's going to be material back in everyone knows that i think that smooths over every quarterback back up quarterback dynamic to to help that process along and having a guy there to be like hey look out for this look out for that i'm seeing this and just one more guy to be there to support Michael Hawkins
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, to your point, even if Michael Hawkins goes out there against can state and breaks the FBS single game passing record, he's not taking John material job and I think that maybe makes the relationship a little bit healthier just because he knows he's not competing for material job material knows that Hawkins isn't going to steal his job, but it also says a lot about the leadership of both of those players.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's here, everything we've heard, everything we've seen is that he is a vocal guy and it seems like he's continued that despite having surgery, now being back with the program that's huge and credit to Hawkins too, I mean, covering some of those brunt venibals camps in the summer, seeing when Baker may feel was in town.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Hawkins knew he was not going to be the starting quarterback game one.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: He never disassociated.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: He was a big part of just
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: being a leader in this program, being someone that even if he's the number two quarter back, he's still a leader on this team, that says a lot, and I think that sets him up well to come in in a situation whether it's one games, two games, three games, I think that sets him up well to be successful.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_04]: I'll just say this, Abraham, you sound like a young guy to me.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_04]: I actually covered a settler-tells high school football games as a recruit.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_04]: And 1990, no, before the 2000 season, they had played the 99s.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_04]: No, it was before the 99 season.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: Prior to the 99 season, we rolled out there for the Bob Stoops media golf tournament.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_04]: Guess who was in my cart?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_04]: set the trail and we talk for 18 holes about oh you oh you football and Oklahoma high school football me and set the trail in a golf cart for three and a half hours That was fun.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_04]: That was fun.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: Those were the days Well, you guys aren't is the other thing covered the 85 team, right?
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: Which is getting honored on Saturday.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_04]: I actually did cover the one game of the 85 team
- 22:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the more old dude, yeah, you're just old.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, yeah, was in elementary school at least.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: I watched a lot of the 85 team.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, by the way, quick pitch, quick promo.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_04]: I interviewed Barry Switzer this morning about that team, that season Brady Tranthom is doing a fantastic job on that story runs tomorrow.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, should be should be Thursday afternoon evening, uh, if not everybody gets back to us will let you know we might push it back to Friday.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: But that'll be up there, Oklahoma soon or so on S I dot com as well as by the time that you are listing to this, I'll have my story about John Kuzioski and everything that he's brought to the program up on the website, Oklahoma soon or so on S I dot com.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we actually just see.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: just a total sidebar, you know, our buck was asked about some of his head coaching aspirations, stuff like that since he's been tossed in there.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: And everyone does a very good job in those situations of answering it.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: I would encourage you to head to either John's YouTube page, John Hoover Media or the website, oclensureshinaside.com, click on the video.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: The way that our buck will seem like legitimately, like almost caught off guard and was like hands up like,
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: I worry about that kind of stuff right now outside situation.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see in November of his name heats up stuff like that, but I do wonder, you kind of mentioned earlier, who that if coach Koo's getting that much pub and that much help, he might be like an O.C.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: can it?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: I also wonder, like, you've been all about all things like I'd like to stay this year and then maybe next year search if he's like, hey, if you stay too, whatever I go somewhere, you're just going to be the O.C.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see what that all pans out.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's a conversation for another time.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: a lot longer, uh, maybe a November if things keep rocking and rolling, uh, not just Michael Hawkins, a familiar face to Oakman fans will be out there.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: Brent Venables has talked about it.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: He lasts Thursday.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of looted to getting some names back.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: He talked about it Monday night, talked about it Tuesday.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: He talked about it on the NCC teleconference, Oklahoma barring a setback,
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Giovanna Gibson, Widersever, Arkansas, Pimble of Transfer, supposed to make his debut this week in Eli Bowen, supposed to make it all the way back in.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: And you should see a much, much healthier offensive line.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if Asus who's gonna get held out or not, I've not checked in just to see what that is.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: But Asusci, Jake Mycla, and Povecci, we were the three guys that were nursing ankle injuries.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: Should it all be good to go again, not gunwood barring like a roll up or something?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: for Texas.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_02]: I know everyone's really, really excited about Giovanni Gibson, who, but how important is Eli Bowen come back in because we know this, Brett Venables, the defensive coordinator loves to be aggressive, loves to leave his corners on islands if you trust some quarterly gillery found that out against Auburn, just another experience guy that's been out there on an island in SEC play that can't hurt.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, especially the experience part, he came in second half of the last season and he wasn't just a starter, right, as a true freshman.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_04]: He's starting as a true fresh.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_04]: He was the best corner they had.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_04]: He was in a lot of by a lot of measures.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_04]: The best, most efficient defender they had or or number two in some areas, according to profile focus.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_04]: So for him to have that kind of metal to go out there.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_04]: And that kind of gravitas us as a freshman to be able to perform like that, you know, and there were some tough games that he had to go out there and expose himself to, you know, he does it.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a freshman.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know that much, but you know what?
- 25:20[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to play hard.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to play.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to do with the coaches taught me and I'm going to play my best.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_04]: And he did and he was a stood out so often.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_04]: So many times he would come up and blow up a screen pass.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_04]: with complete confidence or a toss sweeper quarterback pops out of the pocket he comes up and knocks the guy on the ground with authority.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_04]: And then so many times he's playing a deep ball, you know, they're like, let's pick on the freshman.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_04]: They throw a lot ball or a skyball to the to the to the to the tall receiver and he's out there at, you know, five foot 11, I think, five 10 and a half, five 11 and he's competing with the guy not he wasn't 100% but he was
- 26:02[SPEAKER_04]: I just love seeing him play as a true freshman.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_04]: What you got to hope for now is that his mind as a sophomore, right?
- 26:08[SPEAKER_04]: Returning starter, so to speak, hasn't been clouded by excess coaching.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_04]: Let's call it, um, not coaching that's wrong.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's just, hey, let's, he gets it.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_04]: Let's go ahead and feed him all of it at once and sometimes I can cloud a young guy's mind.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_04]: And so I hope that hasn't happened for him because he's a, he's a fearless hit hitter, uh, he's an efficient,
- 26:31[SPEAKER_04]: and he's smart enough to be involved within arms reach of just about every ball that's thrown in his direction.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't get fooled by double moves or pump fakes or stuff like that.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_04]: So, yeah, if he's back, then I would thank Portland Gallery kind of moves into a more of a supporting role because Eli Bowen is just fantastic.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, my first introduction to Bowen was the Alabama game last year.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously he was great in that one.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's huge to get him back.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think the offensive impact of getting Giovanni Gibson is almost equally as huge.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: Just you look at how big he is, how productive he was last year at Arkansas Pine Bluff.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, FCS competition.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: Look what Keyon says Lewis has already done for a use offense.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's proven that with the right coaching, with the right chemistry with their
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: FCS receivers can absolutely play at this level.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm curious about though is how did they use all this talent?
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good problem to have considering what this receiver room looked like how decimated it was by injuries.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: But how the heck are they going to juggle all these reps?
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean we're seeing
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: For example, Zion Cerny.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's someone who's looked really good when he's gotten reps when he's gotten targets.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: His impacts are very minimal on this offense.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: Same for a guy like Ivan Caria.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think he still has a lot of potential to be a really good college football receiver.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm curious to see how much volume Gibson gets instantly.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: A game like Kin State.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is an opportunity where guys like Kerny carry on, maybe even Silent Ragsins.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: Players like that should be able to get a lot of reps, a lot of targets.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the big question for me, like how does his snap count compare to other receivers in the room?
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, overall just getting someone that big, that fast for someone his size, that's huge, especially when you have Texas 10 days away.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_04]: Quick at where you guys before we move on, the wide receivers here's to it's the illustration of what Carson's talking about.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_04]: D.M.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_04]: Berks leads the team right now with 23 catches.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_04]: only 265 yards.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: So 11.5 yards of catch.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_04]: Only two touchdowns leads the team.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_04]: Isaiah Satanya has 22 catches.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_04]: So one behind.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_04]: He's second on the team with 284 yards.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_04]: He's averaging 12.9 yards per carry.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_04]: One touchdown.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_04]: Can't of course the tight end is third on the team.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_04]: 18 catches.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_04]: But he leads the team with 377 yards.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_04]: 17 yards of catch has you have to get in the end zone.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_04]: And then he out to his lowest. 17.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_04]: He's fourth on the on the team 17 catches fourth on the team with 210 yards tied for first with two touchdowns now you're going to put Juana Gibson in there and the catch those guys catches you would think will diminish a little bit unless they're throwing the ball more But you're right.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_04]: I was setting your asking where's Zion current is where's
- 29:13[SPEAKER_04]: uh... where's the other uh... you know uh... i've been carrying a jake of jordan where the lies of tomis even has a catch this year where those guys numbers going to be and i think javana gipson is going to probably take all of the rest of those and probably some from some of those first four
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we can't really type almost NFL style rotation, which is not a lot of rotation.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's a personnel group thing, not necessarily a, all right, this is the Elijah Thomas drive stuff like that.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see, it's also interesting because it's so hard to project by all accounts.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like we know that Dianne Berks was being held out of stuff that in things, so that plays into things.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: But it was like, hey, Satanian Gibson, Satanian Gibson, those are your two guys that are your consistent big play guys throughout Springfall.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: And that's one of the things that we would start to ask like in fall camp some of the defensive actions like hey, who stands out with the wider severs at this point Giovanni Gibson is hurt and you've guys still going back like I it's burning my brain Devon Jordan being like and all by the way Giovanni he's coming he talked about this blocking ability stuff like that so I'm gonna be interested to see I guess the one
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: Flipside of it is the buy week is all about self-scouting all that stuff.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: If vocal they can't get a run game up and go in, I think the self-scouts can be, well, we're pretty darn good in past protection even when our lines have been hurt.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: And now we've added what we feel like another weapon.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: We need to run enough to keep people honest, but if we believe in our highest entropy candidate, quarterback geometry, when it comes back in, that may solve a little bit of the receiver problems, because it may just be as simple as, they're not gonna have a thousand yard rusher, but they might aerate this thing up a little bit more, which I think that Ben Arbockel's shown, he'd be pretty comfortable with.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: So, that'll all come, once we get to the cotton bowl and beyond, that's when those questions start to be answered, not necessarily,
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: uh... this week elsewhere in by weekland uh... it was notable i thought a lot of times there's coach me going and stuff like that it seemed like rent vinnables was almost like jones and a hammer a couple different times a member whether it be last Thursday whether it be monday now the coaches show or two's day
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: And the press conference about how not only did they, is he proud of how they attacked the bow I week, but see like he's like this is the best by week we've had since we've been here, the maturity, all that stuff that kind of mirrors how over the moon he was in the temple post game about just the maturity of the team and how he thought that was a mature win.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure it is.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Side of maturity, but when you look over at that Oklahoma defense, it feels like the even for a by week when you've got that much depth and that many guys still competing for spots.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_02]: I know everybody take a drink competitive depth, but it seems like that is helping this team stay fresh on Saturdays, but continue to push each other all throughout the week.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it really is.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: And you look at just sort of position by position, whether it be the defensive line, the line backers who have I think shown maybe some more depth and I thought that they had before the season on the back end and then you add a live bow and into that who I think.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know, going back to what Y'all were talking about earlier.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think maybe it's not an instant integration with him.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to take maybe a little bit at a time.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_03]: But when you've got a guy like Hillary who can, you know, allow that time there.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think that helps.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, just that depth in the continued pushing and as good as they've been on defense,
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: And this is a topic that is going to linger until it changes and I'm going to write about it again later in the week.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: When you don't have any turnovers, you know, that can allow you to keep pushing forward.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_03]: Even if, you know, not that they would consciously, you know, back off or be complacent, but I think it guards against a little bit of that complacency when you've got something so tangible that you can continue to work for and continue to improve upon.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: help this defense that they haven't been able to go out and force turn over yet because they're sort of that carrot dangling for them here in the future.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's despite that.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_02]: This was a well covering the OU game notes this week, but just gonna run down some defenses stats for you, everybody buckled up.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: Sacks for game first, that's in the NCAA in the FPS, not the SEC first.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: Third down conversion defense, first, opponent puns for game first, opponent plays a 10 yards plus first.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: That one's just a raw number, so it might be eight and slightly by the bow.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: It was still first in the SEC.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: Opponent pass yards for a temp, second in the country first.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: in the SEC, second the country and touchdowns allowed, second total defense, third in passing touchdowns allowed, these are all third right here, tackles for loss for game, scoring defense, passing defense, opponents first downs per game, fourth in yards for play, fifth in passive efficiency rating, seventh in rushing touchdowns allowed, seventh in opposing past completion percentage, and the lowly rushing defense, nearly 19th in the FBS, who
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: Four games, we'll see, but the way that they play against Michigan and against the Auburn, it feels like we're getting really really close to a mission accomplished banner for the defense at least.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, can you imagine pairing this defense with the 2017 or 2018 or 2019 Offences?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_04]: How bad those Offences are defenses were back then?
- 34:45[SPEAKER_04]: You would have the all-time unit of a team, just just plowing through people for a national title.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, just unbelievable to have
- 34:55[SPEAKER_04]: You know, when Brent got here, it was a, well, can he fix this defense?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's the, that's job.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_04]: One, if your name's Brent Venables, and you come back to Oklahoma.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_04]: And the defense has been a statistical joke for the last 10, 12 to 15 years.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Job one is to fix the defense.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_04]: He's done that.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_04]: They're probably not going to finish first in the country and all those categories that you mentioned, or top 10 even in a lot of those categories.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_04]: But just to be where they're at right now, what an unbelievable rebuild by Brent, to just,
- 35:32[SPEAKER_04]: Let me take a look at George's number of five stars.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_04]: Take a look at Alabama's number of five stars.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_04]: He's not done anywhere close to that in terms of recruiting, but he's gotten a couple of those guys here and there.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_04]: And then he's turned the culture around just completely on its ear.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_04]: Like, we're Oklahoma.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_04]: We shouldn't suck at defense.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_04]: That's what their mindset is.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_04]: Now that we're Oklahoma, we should be great at defensive.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_04]: And just a couple of recruiting classes, he's completely flip that script, just unbelievable.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_02]: You look at, uh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna hedge into Brady Tranthum territory.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you look at, like, historically, well, it's made Oklahoma football, what it is.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma is never like recruited poorly.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's not make this out to be like a sister's a poor thing.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's not.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: But when you talk about like walking to the cotton ball, you look across the other side by Texas always has the athletes.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: When it's separated Oklahoma and made Oklahoma be a program that is produced championships decade over decade, conference titles decade over decade.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's been saying we do really, really good recruiting.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_02]: And then you maximize all those guys.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it's always about when they're at their best, it's raising that recruiting level to where you're maximizing.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: studs and things like that.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: And if the defense is just a test case, then what Brett Venables has done and maybe this current recruiting class isn't going to blow any one away with a bunch of stars who talked about all last season, right?
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: The circumstances of Jim Nagy coming in of recruiting on a hot seat style negative recruiting stuff.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: We'll just look over to 2027 and we will look to 2027 here in a couple seconds.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's already stacking and trending back to where Brett Vittables had those recruiting classes.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: His first full recruiting classes, second full recruiting class.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: And then you go out and you add a David Stone, a Jayden Jackson that by no means is a lowly rated guy, but it's a huge e-vow made a big priority.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_02]: A courtling killer, a huge e-vow made a big priority.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: Eli Bowen, I know it's a Peyton Bowen brother, but
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: throughout that entire recruitment.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: It was very maintained.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: We want Eli Bowen for Eli Bowen not just because he was the brother of Peyton Bowen and stuff like that.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_02]: And if you maximize all that, that's what you need to do.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: You need to do that on the offensive side as well.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: But when you had three different offensive coordinators through officially that that jolt that awful a little bit.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: But certainly a good start in something I had kind of asked Brentman was I think coming out of the Michigan Games.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's like this defense is the test case because
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: You have Dominic Williams, it's a transfer, Kindle Danes is a transfer, Kindle Dolby is a Juico guy.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: They're rest of those guys over there on that defensive side of the ball that Iraq and are all in.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you commit.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you develop.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what Burett Vittables has done.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see certainly your four games into this season.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: You got to land the plane, all that stuff.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_02]: But through four games, it's a pretty darn good thing to take out to the recruiting channel.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: Be like, this is what we would like it to be like, come help be a part of that.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: So before we get on to the recruiting, though.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_02]: We do need to take a stop in.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_02]: John material is back in Norman.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously he had made it back by Thursday.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: He has one small bandade on his thumb.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_02]: That has been well documented.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: The Chipotle employee who has a dad who's on an and a message board has declared that John material thinks is gonna play for Texas.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: Tung and cheek all that stuff, boys.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think that we're, I think we're like, it's a live podcast next week.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that we have entered the territory.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was always very steady, right?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone around it said, let's wait and tell, the surgery actually happens to get a timeline.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: I would not be stunned.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: We've reached the point that I don't think it would be crazy for geometry to start for Oklahoma against Texas next week, which is going to make next week an absolute S show, I think.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm just thinking back to the week that Dylan Gabriel is in concussion protocol, which is much more cut and dry,
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like South Carolina now to me feels like the back end of when like it might either be Texas or South Carolina, which is kind of incredible for where we were last Wednesday.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: It isn't credible.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_04]: Just, I mean, a broken thumb.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know the extent of the break.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know the severity of it.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know the complexity of the surgery, you know, what procedures were done.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_04]: Might have just been a little little incision going there, do a little, put a little, I don't know, cheese.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_04]: Super glue, you know, on the bone.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_04]: That's how they do it now.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's 2025, right?
- 39:37[SPEAKER_04]: I know this, that if material finishes comes back early, it finishes this thing strong, I'm going to check and see if Dr. Shane's in my network because I got to get this thing fixed.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: I have to.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_02]: Jay Dub, Jaylin Williams, Thunder Media Day with a couple of fantastic bars.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_02]: He said, first off, Kobe Bryant went to Dr. Shin for a consult.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: So why are you using me as the guiding light?
- 40:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just like, well, Jay Dub, it's a little bit harder to get Kobe on the phone than you for many reasons.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: And that would be regardless.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's a Shin Sanity has come.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: It has gone.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_02]: And, of course, I'm just on this out there.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think the geometry would like for Dr. Shin to be like a guest of geometry for the Ole Miss game back in Norman and I like I think Dr. Shin might be up for it, which would just be absolutely like nutty if that's something that came to fruition.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: It would break the sooner, Twitterverse, whatever you want to call it, it would go absolutely nuts.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think, I think this year's got to come back for Texas and win that game for that to be warranted, but for everything we've heard, the professional athlete, it's the caliber of them that have gone through Dr. Shin.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: This guy knows what he's doing and leave it to A&M and OU fans who have pretty much nothing in common.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: To unite over the hatred of Texas, you got to love that, a text, a text, a message board.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: Being the source, obviously, I think that was a message board geniuses thing that got exposed.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: And then the dad of the Chipotle employee was like, no, this actually happened, this is legit.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to love it, Texas, Texas A&M and OU fans, both kind of hoping the tears back.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: so he has a better chance in that game, college football.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get it, man.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: We will be monitoring the Auburn Message Board, however, to know for Strip, he's playing.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you guys track this.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: The Auburn Message Board had the rumor the morning of the saving retirement announcement that, like, hey, by the way, I think Nick's hanging it up.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: They had the rumor of the Pearl retirement and it was pointed out to me by Bob Presbyllo.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_02]: The Auburn Message Board last night also had the Brian Snick curve the Atlanta Braves had told the clubhouse that he was retiring.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: An announcement as well, which means that, uh, I don't know if that means the Auburn Message Board have done their hat trick and they're good or if we're waiting for one last ride.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: But, yeah, I know the cut.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_04]: Don't forget Carson.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_04]: It was the Texas AX message boards that got Oklahoma thrown under the bus in 2006 with the Red Bowl Mar Working at the local working.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_04]: I put in air quotes in the at the local car dealership.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_04]: That came from a Texas AX message board.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_04]: They also said Adrian Peterson was doing it Adrian is like, I don't have a job.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_04]: I don't need a job.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_04]: All I have was a Lexus out of the deal.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_04]: Back in the day, man, the beginnings of message boards and the recruiting in 2000 to 2005, those recruiting websites, they were not brobibled in a slice bread though, that totally different.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just sliced bread.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, if we don't have something like official or something that we report, check the website and all that stuff.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just telling you, next week, Baton down the hatches because I love our friend Tattoo Baker on Twitter.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: He does great content.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: Go in back and finding videos from Springball of Jon material throwing a javani and putting out the like, hey, look at this practice day today.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: He knows what he's doing and a lot of people know it's just look alive when when your uncle comes to you is like what the hell's happened I read this on Facebook let's all cut through the reported stuff versus the you know stuff next week.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_04]: What we can do is our friend Willie from the OU Daily is going to have his head picking up over the the the windows to look down on the practice field to see who's actually taking the starting core.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_04]: I mean if the OU Daily
- 43:32[SPEAKER_04]: They're not living up to their own standard, right?
- 43:34[SPEAKER_04]: Not weird enough.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_04]: Would you look out of the window across the street down onto the parking under the end of the practice field to see who the starting quarterback is?
- 43:42[SPEAKER_04]: Guys, that's how it's done.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_04]: Just saying that the standard is the standard.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_03]: Although to be fair, who and I could talk about this for a long long time, the problem was
- 43:55[SPEAKER_03]: that you had that vantage point.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: It was just a bad, again, I've said this a lot, but with sources, the source is being your right eye, and your left eye, and not a source watching from this part that, you know, a few of us have watched a practice from that vantage point at various points in time.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone knows that couch.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone knows the spot.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's not, and I will listen to this.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_02]: The ones that know, no, and the ones that don't, it doesn't matter, you don't know them.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: I will put this out there.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I just would like to take everyone back.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: To 22, a certain quarterbacks and can cushion protocol, they practice an Everest indoor that week, and somehow Dylan Gabriel with a helmet on gets clipped into a Twitter video, put out by Ousefush LeCow.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: But it's just, actually, it's gonna be wild.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: Buckle up.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: Just, this coaching staff's been there before.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_04]: Done that.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_04]: On another thing, Abraham, you know this being at the airport when somebody lands at the airport, that's good.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_04]: That's not weird.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_04]: That's not weird.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_04]: Oh no.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_04]: That's good journalism by Willie Gillespie and the OU Daily staff.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_04]: So if I pay you, then I put this on Twitter, my opinion.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_04]: When John material does talk to the press, they should get the first interview, those two that were there at the airport with the video camera reporting from the airport should get the first interview before any of us because they earned it.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they did a great job with that and fantastic idea and follow through for them.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_03]: Not weird at all, that's the job.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's the job.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's what you got to do and good on them for continuing a strong tradition of journalism.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: Max Westheimer hates to see us coming as a gag of that.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: That is for damn sure.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's say, why over to some recruiting talk here for a moment, it was maybe the newsiest by week in the history of by weeks we had, the material stuff happening, all that stuff.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: And then Bill Beaton, Bo, just like,
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: shirt off flexing all over the state of Oklahoma.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: He picks up Cooper Hackett who had flipped from Texas Tech.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: Him and Caden Piny, the Bigsby Star, Bigsby by the number one, and on three slash rivals, a massive college high school football ratings, you shout to Bigsby.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_02]: So not only not one, but to in-state guys, not one, but to offensive lineman, not one, but to elite in-state offensive lineman.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: Not a bad, like, uh,
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: way to kick himself into by weekend from Bill Beanbow their ever.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, first of all, when you're Bill Beanbow and you've, uh, you know, lost as much weight as he has, you want to take your shirt off as often as possible, right?
- 46:56[SPEAKER_03]: So certainly warranted celebration there for him, but it's crazy to think about, and obviously these guys have to perform it on the field, but as good as Bill Beanbow has been as an offensive line coach, the recruiting has taken a step up.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_03]: even to another level the last couple cycles with what he was able to get last year with Michael Fassucy and Ryan Fogey, who were already playing roles on that offensive line to the pieces that he added this week.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_03]: Just another indication that even coaches who have been in it for a long time or sort of, you know, Bill Beatinbo is sort of the epitome of an old school
- 47:47[SPEAKER_03]: and he's been able to adapt and do the things that he needs to do in this new era of NIL and everything and clearly, you know, part of that is, you know, what Jim Nagy and his staff are doing with the contract negotiation element of it, but Bill Beanbow is able to, you know, rack up these wins and led to a really big week.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_03]: As good of recruiting week,
- 48:17[SPEAKER_02]: thought it was no coincidence after the Auburn game that when Brent was asked about recruiting he had talked about, or it was that maybe it was the Michigan game, either one.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_02]: He had talked about, this is a great place where I've been climbing to come develop, great place where quarterbacks to come develop, that's when they had had Cooper Hackett in the house, and at that point it was, he said he obviously came into LSU, but thought it was no coincidence there.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was no coincidence that he also talked about.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: In his opening statement this week, been able to get out around the state, Oklahoma still being a priority.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: I know that that was something that the state often may be taking it in the teeth a little bit when they had passed on a Caden Jones and they had passed on some of those guys.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: Came back and got ZZ out of rejoice Christian, the widers here in the 26 class, but 2027, they're not just striking two in state guys, but two massive ones.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_02]: And Bixby's the place that Oklahoma's not had a ton of success.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: recruiting in a neighbor to your point.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_02]: It kind of feels like Beanbows taking the, he will admit he was a slow adopter to NIL.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: And he's found the balance between be competitive enough.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't the highest offer for for for for Fusucy.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't the highest offer for Cooper Hackett.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: Blend it with we're going to get you what you need.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: We're also going to develop you so you can make that long term money.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: And it seems like he's found a winning formula there.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just the
- 49:32[SPEAKER_02]: Michael McCreary, the toy 27, DB from San Antonio, the local homo landed.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_02]: Suddenly, it feels like as much as we looked at the toy 26 class, I'm like, yeah.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_02]: On the board in 2027, 2026, you're like, Eval's over star.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: So I toy 7, it's like, you can have all you want.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: Eval stars, whatever.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'll use often roll it.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, they definitely are number one class so far in twenty twenty seven which that should be taken with the grain of salt.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think Sacramento State has like the fifth best class just because they have seven commits.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, you look at the class that OU has four players that are at least four stars or better five total commits.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: Offensive line.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's obviously the highlight McCreeery.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: Everything I've read about him did a little bit of insight, just looking into him.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he looks like he's going to be a really good defensive back at the college level.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's huge kind of reaffirming those pipelines in both Texas, the end state pipelines in Oklahoma.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it's massive.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of, it kind of shows that recruits are still to a degree, valuing culture over money sometimes.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, at being reported that hack it took, I think the word was significantly less some money from OU than Texas tech.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's cool to see that in this changing era where money is a thing.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: It definitely is.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: There's no going around that.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: That culture, facilities, coaching, they're still value of that and and recruits still see that.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: So as long as OU keeps winning on the field, the culture is still staying what it's been with Brent Vennables being the coach.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's going to be more moments in coming too.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll be on the lookout for, let's jump back to 226 to Lane commit, former Chilean commit, wide receiver, Brad Allen had been committed to Chilean, he'd visit Oklahoma, visit Colorado, decommets from Chilean, and so it feels like a little bit of a heads up between, oh, you and Colorado, don't have like a timeline on that, but feels imminent, but that could maybe potentially be the next one off the board for Oklahoma, looking back into 226, which we'll see who it feels like,
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: get say a coaching change.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that staff breaks apart.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma's been monitoring been waiting in the wings on a couple of those guys, but this was always going to kind of be, you might not love what the time 26 classes on paper if you're just looking at stars.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to bake on e-vows, but going back to time 27, it feels like you're starting to see, this is what Maggie inventables together want to try to do, and I mean, it's early days, but there turns something great.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, if you're Jim Nagy and if you're Brent Benables to a little bit of news that came out this morning.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_04]: You're definitely putting that to work and that is there now with Dylan Gabriel being elevated to the starting quarterback and Cleveland there are now six former Oklahoma starting quarterbacks who are starting in the national football league this week six of 32 or former OU quarterbacks.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_04]: I know you've got, you know, USC you got South Carolina and you've got Oregon.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_04]: I know that I know
- 52:34[SPEAKER_04]: But you've also got on the front side, you've got Texas Tech and you've got Alabama and you've got, you know, Texas, and you've got six guys who at one point in their career decided Oklahoma was the best place for them.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_04]: I guess what they're all in the NFL, they're all starting right now.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_04]: That's incredible to me.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_04]: So that's something that if you're if you're nagging inventables, you're saying, I mean, you go to LSU if you want to, but there's only one right school that has six starting quarterbacks in the national football league this week, pretty impressive.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it'll be a if Gabriel could hold on to that job for a couple of weeks also be able to preach like it's not just linking Riley guys to it's another guy that came to Oklahoma and yeah, he got some other stuff elsewhere.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: We get that but we'll see we will see as well.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_04]: Also speaking of there's only one, I heard the idea this way.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember if it was the Oklahoma breakdown podcast, you got to have if when material comes back, you've got to have.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_04]: Dr. Shin come out with the thumb going.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_04]: There's only one in the hype video, right?
- 53:33[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, would that not be poetic?
- 53:35[SPEAKER_02]: They do that.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: One thing has to happen.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be unbeaten going into Ole Miss if you drop the Texas game or the South Carolina game or both.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_02]: Can't do it.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_02]: Can't do it, but you can't replace.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_02]: a Barry Switzer or something like that, even for one game with Dr. Shin unless you were unbeaten and at the front of the highest in race, and material needs to play against Texas too.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I feel like there's, it will be awesome, but like, materials got to play against Texas, and you got to be undefeated.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_02]: If neither of those things happened then I'm just kind of like, great idea.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe put him out there between the third and the fourth quarter.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_04]: And let that be the rallying, trying to get the fans going and give you that on the video board in any, in any measure, he's on the video board in any way, shape or form, even in a meme situation where somebody is cutting pasted his face on, you know, one of those deals, the place is going to come apart at the seams.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_02]: Or just happen to be the last one of the locker room and just touch the play like it should be like just one of those like if you know, you know, I'm just tossed in there.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's like what is going on there.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_02]: So hey, real quick, for you to bad of here, too.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_02]: Brickman, he talked about a couple of times Monday night.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_02]: He had talked about basically having both his sons back in one one stream coach UAV, one still finished out at Clemson to enjoy the weekend, but he said it again.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't just agree with him talking about when you look across college football.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_02]: He believes there's not a single team that Oklahoma can't play with if they do everything right there's also not a single team left on the schedule other than can't stay that they couldn't lose a game to I do think that The further we get into this when you look at the Oklahoma defense and just what we've seen out of a tier and like got to have it type possessions Right now I don't disagree with print venables if that deep is gonna play that way that the taklers are gonna come I
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of agree with them that I don't think there's a team on the they're going to step on the people to be like we can't win this game Does that mean they're going to go undefeated?
- 55:26[SPEAKER_02]: Does that mean they're going to be able to string it all together?
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: No, but I do feel like the door is cracked.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: If nothing else to like look around and go Why can't this team make a cash football play off if if health smiles upon Oklahoma and they get everybody back in roll
- 55:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_04]: I agree Ryan.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_04]: All you got to do is look no further than Alabama and Florida State.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Florida State takes down Alabama in the opener and then loses in week four.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_04]: Alabama.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_04]: Meanwhile, it's kicking the crap out of Georgia in week four.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, what?
- 55:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_04]: So everybody's flawed in college football right now and even at the top Oregon might be somebody who is going to be a hard to throw a lasso around and for that matter Ohio State might be somebody who's really
- 56:09[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody else is certainly getable.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like it's kind of to your point, Ryan, a double-edged sword, because yes, I don't think there is a team in college football that, oh, you can't beat.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_00]: But on the flip side, I think there are about 25 teams that, on a given day, maybe they could beat the Oklahoma sooners.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: You look specifically in this conference.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, aside from Arkansas and Kentucky, we've seen flashes of brilliance from the other 14 teams in this league.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think,
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: For OU's sake, OU probably, I mean, you could argue that they're five first games, they're five first opponents for the five worst offenses they'll face in the regular season.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the way Texas has looked, you could argue the first six.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: So it does only get tougher.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think Missouri, Tennessee, definitely look better than we expect them to.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe South Carolina's not quite as good.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, every game aside from Kent State is winnable, but it's also usable, which,
- 57:06[SPEAKER_00]: that just kind of speaks to our college football is this year Ohio State probably the most complete team at this point but they don't have that just awesome quarterback play that's going to make it a blowout game they're going to beat you in the trenches I don't think there is one team far and away better than everyone else which makes our jobs more fun, makes college football more interesting, there's more parody so you got to love that and I think that's
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: that's what's got to be more encouraging yes there are more usable games but it is more attainable to make it make a run up the national championship this year than I feel like it's been in a while yeah i think that that's a product of a lot of the changes in college football and i i think for for me and i've talked about this a lot uh
- 57:53[SPEAKER_03]: I thought when some of these changes started happening in IL and some of the iterations of that, that the Gulf between the Haves and the Havnots would get bigger and we'd see the Alabama's and the Georgia's and the Texas's and you know programs like that.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_03]: really start dominating even more the reality has been it's it's bunched everything together and yes you've seen some programs that have been traditional powers or that have done some really good things struggle but you've also seen some programs that you've really never seen take off take off like Indiana and and in heck right now you could argue that Indiana resume why should be the
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just been a little bit surprising to me.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I think a lot of people in college football, how that has created the parody.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_03]: But it has, and it's been not only this year, but I think the last three or four years where you've had some really good teams.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_03]: and but you haven't had that just dominant team that you're like this team is going to be the one that if everything goes right they're going to win the national championship you know right now you could look at you know eight or ten teams as as teams you could really easily seeing ultimately winning the national championships so i think it's made college football fun in a
- 59:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think one of the like big unanswerable questions when we started all this was, what is the real effect of saying, hey, it doesn't just have to be that when
- 59:40[SPEAKER_02]: Alabama is recruiting as people.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't mean that it has to be physically LSU wins two more five star heads up battles against Alabama.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, but what if Texas tech takes two off the board?
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then Oregon comes in and takes two more off the board.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then you get one that decides that they're just really in on everything bill bellicherry or something like that.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_02]: Spreading those guys out and then having some sort of salary Capigea, so it then gives you more of an NFL situation.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay, you can have Pat Mahomes.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_02]: That means though that are you gonna have to make the sacrifice at corner, you're gonna make the sacrifice at receiver, you're gonna have to make it at left tackle.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_02]: What does that look like?
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've seen that a little bit.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_02]: It was part of,
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_02]: some of the theme of SEC media that going all the way back in and where curvy basically said our two deep is younger than it's ever been because that's now how you build depth you have to throw freshman and sophomore's out there and spend more unpredictable up and down so should be fun we will see I do need to get in contact with some people I am curious I was starting the south there too things that
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_02]: What looks better?
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_02]: What looks worse?
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there's a lot that like has to happen before this is like an issue.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Oklahoma has to be Texas and has to fall it up with a softer line and that almost has to be Georgia.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anyone had it on the table though that like going into October, Oklahoma Ole Miss might have been a top five matchup.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_02]: which is evidenced by the fact that the SEC set that in the early window and Norman, I know that they set that.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if they're able to be like, our bad, if this pans out in game day once they come and watch what will be a bare minimum top 5 matchup, again, a lot has to happen.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if they're able to like bang that down, be like, just kidding, that's a night game.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry to everyone, but we would like to buck that to the night game because of what we have to do.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's just going to be a big 12 throwback, right, where you have your biggest games at 11 a.m.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_03]: And that's just the reality of things.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_02]: We call that big noon kickoff around these parts.
