- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: The greatest money Marseille show on the planet.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, today on Inside the Vault, I'm sitting down with a certified architect of culture, a man who didn't just survive the music industry, he redefined how artists win inside of it.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_03]: from being broke in college park.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: We were gonna talk about that because it's got to keep claim in college park.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_03]: I know him from the Bronx, but for being broke in the college park to become one of the most powerful executives in the game, he worked with the biggest names in music, built one of the most respected artists development platforms.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_03]: And now he's giving the game away like never before.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: He's the founder of Radar, the host of many shows including the God show,
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: And he has a powerful concept called the artist Agreements.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_03]: And it teaches you how to win big in the music industry.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_03]: This is a conversation for anyone who's ever had a dream and especially for those who are trying to navigate the music business without selling their souls.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_03]: Ladies and gentlemen, the mogul maker himself, my brother.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: Ray, thank you so so much.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is the watch you have worked.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: We've been around each other a hundred times.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: I've never seen it inside the ball.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so watching you, that was amazing.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate your buzzer.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: That means a lot is I watching it's like for people at home.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's like watching someone go from like, I cool, cool.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: to action.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's incredible.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate that, really.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_03]: And it means a lot though, because, you know, we are both media personality.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm saying?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, like you said, so, like for me, you know, inside the voice is high energy, like, you know, like, it goes.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_03]: And so, it's let's go.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_03]: So, I always want to, especially in my intro, I always want to make people understand the type of person I'm interviewing.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it's funny and this is why I joked about you being for the Bronx because when I first so so I think it was I think Sean praise when I first like just figure who you like yes, you like you didn't have the gosh show.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I saw you on an interview with Sean Perez.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_03]: He was doing the podcast and like on zoom and I heard of listening to you
- 4:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think I like this dude.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you, bro.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_03]: I like this dude, and you was talking real.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_03]: You are natural star, you're natural, you know, you know, a mogul, you're like, you can tell your business actor man was there.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm telling you, on the show, President, I'm gonna pull it up, just tell me.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_03]: On the show, President, you said you was from the Bronx.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, yes, I knew I liked this guy.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_03]: Did he stop popping?
- 4:42[SPEAKER_03]: Did all of a sudden he felt college porn.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'll say home on, if I talk to it.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so let me, let me clear it up because I do say I'm from New York.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I was born there.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: And it, man, like New York said this, this, to tone.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: For who I became in Atlanta because as you know, New York is pace.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: And it's another hospitality you take our time.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: We sit back, relax.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: And when I decided to jump up the porch that New York mentality that I knew came out of me, but
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard claiming to place that.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can't really pinpoint someone that can say you're there.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: So for example, what's back you from?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Where you from in New York?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tweet like, eight out of those.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm saying Nick, if I go to a hundred twenty nine for saying Nick, and I'll walk into your hood and I'm like, I know Ashcast.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, you go.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's my point.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you go to Patterson Projects and say, I know Ray Daniels, they're going to be like, who is that?
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: But if you go to college park, and you say, I know Ray Daniels, they're going to be like, you good.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I claim it.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I do, but I did it on interview sales from New York because we were talking about my origins.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: When we talk about who I am today, I say Atlanta, but if you talk about my origins, I'm never going to discredit New York because it made me.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: Ain't you New Yorkie a soul though?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: Let's say I say you New Yorkie.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's like it's like tiq right and he might he might he might I don't know if you'll be upset that I say this but a lot of times when I listen to ti you can tell he's new Yorkie phones.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: He like that's true.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you sure King of the South and I get it I keep it by way better way that's the New York thing to do right Sam King of the South
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but the one thing I will say is just not Atlanta, but just leaving your hometown to go to other places is always great because you get a chance to see how other people do it.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, New York has influenced the entire country for so long that I just want to give college parks something to be proud.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: And the one thing I will say though, the one thing I will say about New York
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: is New York needs to be more inviting to others.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: Because I think like I obviously live in Atlanta.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_03]: I love Atlanta.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_03]: For sure.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_03]: Love the South.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_03]: Love it.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: Love it, right?
- 7:06[SPEAKER_03]: But obviously, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: There's been time.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: Like everybody always talk about how New Yorkers think about the South, how they speak about the South and things of that nature.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't like that New York gets that rap.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm bad we talked about that too because because I think that that is an older thought process.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: But it's still there.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: So like so like I said what I said about you know like Ying Ying I getting this respect and a lot of people in New York was like piss because why you're putting that on New York and what I was trying to say is that
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, today little baby gets respect like without having to say the South got something to say.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a point in time where you didn't get respect, unless you said the South got something to say.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so I was just trying to clarify, you know, like the perspective that I'm coming from.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a lot of people try to make it something else.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's like now, bro.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I like being from the South.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: I like I like like I like the comparison.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: I like having the New York and the South thing.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: I like when it was New York we used to run from the motherfucking like he was like anything happy you run it like and you got to the South everybody's waving hey it was just it was just the living in New York made me appreciate the South as such a high love yeah
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: because it was like in New York it is the concrete jungle because you are and what I mean by the jungle is that you are working twenty four seven three sixty five and you don't even escape it that's a fact in Atlanta we have an escape you could come to the city get your money and drive outside of the perimeter and live great so yeah yeah yeah
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: So I want to start here, though, let's go again from the very first time that I saw you on that episode.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, shout out to Sean Fred.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: like you have done phenomenal in creating, or just giving yourself to the world, as a mogul, as a businessman, as a talking head, like your roster has been so dope.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_03]: And the funny thing about it is
- 9:13[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't seen this in a while, though.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: And people, I don't know if people are gonna realize this, right?
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there was once upon a time, there were moguls that we wanted to, we wanted to hear their opinion.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_03]: We wanted to see what they're saying.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like, we wanted to see regardless of what you say about day and we wanted to listen to day, we wanted to.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_03]: LA's real dude.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_03]: You're not saying like, like the people who were the movers and shakers in the industry, we wanted to hear what they thought, right?
- 9:41[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_03]: It almost felt like we were losing that a little bit.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_03]: And then Ray Daniels come and he said, yo, I got something to say, right?
- 9:53[SPEAKER_03]: Who is Ray Daniels though, man?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like, we see you, you go viral, we see you everywhere.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: Who's Ray Daniels?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, as you're graded at this, I'm precise.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny because we really friends, but he asked me these questions.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, damn, that's a good question, brother.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm someone who has
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: I am a storyteller for those of us who have been rejected by our community.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: I share stories about the blueprint of progress for my community, by teaching people how to live a lifestyle of seeking being accountable and being disciplined so that we can all get what God wants for us.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: that is who I am as a man holistically that is my becoming statement as a man so that's who I am I'm here to tell stories to people who felt like the world didn't see them I'm here to talk to you the people that felt like you know I don't know about you asked but like because you kind of big you like six or six four six
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure somebody told you to play a sport.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody ever told me that.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm five foot nine, right?
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like I never been picked.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like never been picked by even my family, right?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then one day, you know, I was like one of those sad black kids that was always feeling like the victim, like why won't the world pick me?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then one day I decide to pick myself.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: And when I did that, everything in my life changed.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I am.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: So what I try to do is, you know, I say a lot of crazy things, but it's really crazy to people because y'all are used to hearing one thing from a certain group of people.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: And what I try to do is, I try to say what I believe and tell people and encourage people to say what you believe.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because right now, as cash is the multi-millionaire based on what you believe.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Ray Daniels the most I mean, they're based on what we believe.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of the people don't believe in themselves or things are possible for them.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm here to tell you.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: I always say this like when I went from the projects.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, thank you, girl.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: And like Doug, when you when you was in school, the athletes had the coaches and them surrounding them protecting them, giving them game, you know, saying the musically inclined kids had the teachers and the music teachers.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: teaching them and then you had a really smart kids who had the people investing in them and then it was a rest of us and you know when I was always a curious kid and when you come from the projects one thing about the projects that
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: I love, is that the project is the realist world a child can live in.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about bro.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I have an eight-year-old daughter.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: I seen someone getting murdered when I was eight, right in front of me, because we plan to stoop ball, because we can't go too far from the building.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: So if people at home, you, you, you, you throw the ball on the steps and then run the bases in front of the building and we was doing that.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody just got killed right there in front of us.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like, my mom whole thing was like, I'm still saying nothing.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm eight.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: So the one thing about the projects that it shows you was that it tells you what you are.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: The projects, everybody's poor, but they laugh at the poor ones.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody might not be dumb, might be smartest, but they make it fun in the dumb ones.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: And you start realizing that, you know, like sort of living in the projects was the first real world I lived in where it was like, man, don't nobody give a damn about nobody here.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm watching people steal from each other.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's just terrible.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, that realization really helped me in life as I started getting older as a man, then I started realizing.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: And the South, remember I said, in New York, they're going to tell you to your face, right?
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: In the South, they're going to high and then turn it back and do that, right?
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's a difference.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: So, New York being so in your face for the rejection that we're getting down by who you are.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was easy for me to be amusing.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm used to people telling me to get the hell out of the face.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: I've been hearing that my whole life.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: So now I'm music, tell me, get out of my face.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: Shit.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: Nine to you hear my song.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you I'll leave when you hear my record.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, I'm just one of those guys with my whole mission is to show people, you know, like people that are sitting now watching this, that feel like nothing is out there for me.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Something is for you.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: You just have to seek.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: Asha self, what do I like?
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: What do I enjoy?
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: You spoke about me coming up, we're already down using popping up.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: The reason I popped up is because I realized that the real reason I popped up is because when I was working at my last job, two of the artists that I saw and asked me to introduce them to Gary V. And I kind of offended me.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: No disrespect to Gary V. I think he's brilliant, but I'm like, what the hell you think he's going to tell you that I can't tell.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: But it was like, it wasn't what he was going to tell them.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was that they felt like he cared.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: So now I start thinking, I'm like, man, if Gary V. ran a record label, they may get Gary V. president or CEO of a label.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: How many artists do you think are going to line up the B sign it to Gary V's label?
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: So you're looking at the black version of that.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: But because I know music better than that.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why I started talking.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, man, like, let me build some trust in the community because most executives are sneaky.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Most executives, you know what I say?
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, what do you say?
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Rekin, um, it is just a rule level four.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's the, that's the, that's the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a lie.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: But they're not, it's not that they're shady.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: They're just like crack dealers.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Nick, I'm trying to sell the crack right now.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to buy ashcash.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: You got to go on and care about you no more.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: They're buying Ray.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm selling him.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's the mute.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's any business.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: But when it's people, when you tow ashcash, I'm leaving you.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: and then you turn your back and say, set them home.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's what people hurt.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, I just want to bring a new perspective to this industry talk and what I realized as I started speaking, that people would draw on to me because they could tell it was real.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, no, it's like, I'm not telling you what you want to hear.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's not what I'm hearing.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: And let's talk about that a little bit because like, I've watched you have opinions of people you know.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: And you have not been afraid to say what you feel about people you know.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: How does that, you know, does that put strains on relationships?
- 15:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like how does that work when you have an opinion?
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: And you're like, this is what I believe and I'm not gonna steal you the wrong way.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna tell you the truth.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_03]: whether whether you agree with it or not.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: How's that?
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's two parts of that.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, I'll say it to your face.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was I was known in the business for being the outspoken.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: I remember we were going to and our meetings at LA read will pull me to the side and be like, turn the meeting up today.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: Because I will always say, like, I just spoke like myself.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I remember vividly my first Ann Armin.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm working with LA.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: LA read his guy to me.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just, I've been trying for twenty four months to get in the room to work for this man.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm here.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: And he plays an artist.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, he's like excited doing his LA dance.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, under my breath.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: Can I look at his little bit?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, I mean, I want to respect this.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: That was it.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, right?
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, no, I said, no.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: I said, no, no, no, my breath.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, man, I'm the angle and I'm gonna put it.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: I get more pussy to him.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: And LA is house rock.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: Who said something?
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: Who said that?
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: Who said that?
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of, you know, everybody know me.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, I got a little... So I'm like, my mom and he's like, what'd you say?
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: What'd you say, right?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I get my holes in him.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: I know I do.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, he just bust out a laugh and like, nigga did you.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: I said, ain't that what we mentioned or?
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like when I see certain artists, I'm like, oh, no, he get more.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like you see, you know, nigga take up his shirt.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: I can't do that, right?
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: Tank was there.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: He was the shirt of meals.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: They said, no, tank got me.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but this nigga ain't got me.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I was really just trying to say.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the crazy thing was that he was the artist that LA believed that what everything in him and he didn't work.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: and LA was like, you was the only person in the whole company that told me you didn't like it.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't, I didn't, I didn't like it.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's dope.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying based on who I'm seeing, I get my hopes in.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I was really trying to say.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, maybe we need to present them better.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: But it was, I didn't like his hairstyle.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Everything about him was like, mm.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: So that's how man L.A.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: started liking me because he was like, most people get the job and they're afraid to speak.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'm not here for the job.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here to learn.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: So the only way you learn is if you speak.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: The only way you learn is if you ask the question.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I was just, oh, it's crazy.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Could you set this up so ill when you was talking?
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: I never went and this is honest.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: Got you.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: And this is probably embarrassing to say, I never had to confess to myself that I could be one of them.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted them to respect me as one of them, so I can figure it out.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: But what I figured out was was that I was the only person thinking like that.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I got to this point maybe like six, seven years ago where I would be talking to my peers and be looking at me like you are like how do you know that?
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm gonna stand while you're looking at me because you're not in the music business, but they were looking at me like, I'm like you don't know that and I'm like no, oh, everybody was party and I was seeking.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I say you have to be a secret of within life.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, life, listen, I don't care where you are.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: You could be a homeless person living on the street.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you seek, if you pay attention, what's going on around you, you can turn your life around.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what about you?
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: You just got to pay attention.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: What's happening?
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: And most of us aren't.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're just so busy complaining about what's happening.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't complain about it.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it's good or bad.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: If I want to chicken, you want to chicken.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: She picked you.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't look at you like I'm hating on you.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, well, he got that I ain't got.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: What is he doing that I'm not doing?
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't look at it like man.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: She only like him because he's tall and dark and it's like Everybody breaks rules.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's got to figure out your route the reason to break a rule and that's kind of what the music business is built on his built on figuring out rules to break for the entry do someone new to the
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: to the room, right?
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's like they don't do that.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're going to do that right now.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have a little fourteen year old kid, white kid singing R&B.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, let's cool.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to introduce Justin Bieber and now we do.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's not that rare.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, the music business is all about figuring out a way to introduce someone and when I realize that
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: No one was thinking about that, but me.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, and then I went to my next job.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: I kill it.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the number one guy there, because in my mind, I ask, I'm looking at it like sports, like I don't care.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care what you say about Michael Jordan and his attitude off the court.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: I seriously, as I was gambling problem, the nigga won.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how I always thought the world worked.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: If you win, but what I realized that it doesn't matter if you win.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was the best guy at my company.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: I just rub them the wrong way, because I spoke up.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: So they're losing now.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, right, right.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: How to hit his biggest, how to hit his biggest, like honestly, how to hit his biggest, sweetie best friend.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: Since I'm gone, now you see how the bigger hit the net?
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're saying, I'm sure, I was like, y'all need me right now.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: But you can't get it right.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: Cause you all thought anybody with a black face that says what's up bro is gonna get the job.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: No nigga, I have spent twenty fucking years of my life dedicating everything I have to learning every piece of this business from how to make a record, to how to roll out a record, to how to manage an artist,
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: everything, and you want to know what my stuff is working right now, because all I'm doing as an artist is coaching myself as an artist.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So you sought up this saying, do you pay attention to it?
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: No, because that's what I would tell the artist not to do.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'd better pay attention to the comments.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: Just keep pushing.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, when you're great, when you walk in the room, when you're great, you don't have to introduce yourself as great.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: Take a feeling, feel it.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Just be great.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: This is energy.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm telling everybody, chase greatness, because that's what money women, the world is chasing.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: So if you chase it and you get close, you'll start getting ahead and look back and realize they chasing you, too.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a life you'd like for me right now.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fact.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: And it took a little bit because I wanted one of the things.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_03]: I saw, you know, I'll brother, I'll brother Dave, man.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like you had an opinion about, you know, I'm glad you wrote that up.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: Can I address that?
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, absolutely, okay.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: So basically, so it was a moment.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's a learning lesson.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: And what I'll tell anybody who's listening is if you're going to decide to sit on a couch in front of a mic and talk.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: and you're going to be keeping cute, you're not going to win.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to win if you're not going to win.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you're not going to win, if you
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: I admit that I didn't think about it from the friend standpoint, because I know Dame, I was talking from the position I'm in.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I basically was like, you look, if this is true, I'm also thinking of some forty laws of power stuff, right?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like one of the laws of power is the crush your enemy totally, right?
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, if this is true, he's crushed, right?
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: at that moment is like, all right, cool, now we're going to step in the help.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I was saying, but damn, damn was like, nigga, it sounded like you're saying that, like basically he was like, nigga, it's like, I need Jay Z's money to survive and I don't.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, it wasn't that, but
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't bring it up, then he's like, you boss, you're the boss.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: You could've told him, don't bring it up, but you let him.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, that's why I went wrong.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, like, I went on it, I shouldn't have spoke on it.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why I shouldn't have spoken on this, because I wasn't any other time.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: My guy just was like, David and Jay, what do you think?
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm live, so I gotta answer, right?
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't really care.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: So the lesson for me was just, don't talk about a man's pocket.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: and especially if you know.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Don't talk about it because the one funny part of conversation, this was some, because people don't know, Ash and I have in common, we hold both Rockefeller stands, right?
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: So a thousand percent.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I love, like, even though Dam was on the phone and we going back and forth, I was just excited, I'm like, hey, right, I can't believe this thing is real.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like you think this, and he says to me, he says, and where I felt like, if you feel like, Jason, help me, you should help me.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what I said to me?
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: I said I thought I was.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: thinking, just bust up.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I said, dang my thought.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was, I was, what did they say?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: If something's going bad, shine a light on it, right?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was doing.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, you're coming up.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's still going even crazier.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, man, my bad.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I understand what he meant.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: And he started.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: And what I will say about day and that he did teach me in that moment was I need to learn more, look more into stuff if I know the people.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: Because he started breaking down.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_03]: his nameisms and yeah, I would love you if you never you should he he needs to be on inside what that's all I did you day once okay, I was saying they give you to me so I stepped out of the you and then you know, but so okay, so I mean we forget I could tell you that I've been talking to Dan yeah, because I'm trying to I'm trying to write a book with Dan and and one of the one of the reasons and we could you to help me make a happy I've been talking to him and it seemed whatever so they know right?
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah
- 24:04[SPEAKER_03]: But I want to write a book with Dame because I truly believe that Dame follows business ethics, right?
- 24:12[SPEAKER_03]: And I want to write a, you know, I have a title.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'll show it to you later.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's called what we're dealing with that.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: No, we have to get that done.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's called the other one.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_03]: I have to agree half to get that done.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_03]: I love that, sir.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even know what you're going to smell to know what it is because I know you.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, what does it mean?
- 24:28[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know you.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm coming to everything.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: And the reason for it, though, is because again, you know, I'm home guy.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm home guy.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_03]: And we just follow certain rules.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: And because we follow certain rules, we move in a certain way, which is why, and then I'm not shocked that people think he's broke.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: because we're not explaining ourselves so much about it.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm saying?
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like I'll tell you myself, right?
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like even what I do.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like I made a lot of money using things.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: And you know what I did?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: I fell back.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: Not because I fell off.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's because I started lending my expertise to other people.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: So I've been behind the scenes, like I got to list the people who are popping right now.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_03]: That you wouldn't even know that I'm the one.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_03]: I could imagine.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_03]: You do what I'm saying?
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: I spend time with you outside of this.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: I already know, yeah.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_03]: I feel bad.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I, so now I said, you know what, at this stage of my career, you know what I want to do?
- 25:24[SPEAKER_03]: I want to, I want to, I want to acorn the game.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: And I need to find Lady Gaga.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, nobody knew he was.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_03]: I want to be a Lady Gaga, Bertie.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't know that he was behind Lady Gaga.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: Later.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: So now you go from your icon as poppin.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_03]: Did all of a sudden you like, oh, he felt no need to fall off.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_03]: My men is just Lady Gaga.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: But now that you black folk is because only people that really brags off all of us are folk.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're black folk have to understand is about falling off is is that in life as we get older because remember we don't even in the music business They're not too many old gray black men in the business like once you hit your forties in the music business, they basically like you're done.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you're like had super success in your twenties and thirties and you could stand on yeah, but if you didn't have that you that but um um so I
- 26:18[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, we talked, we talked, so what I was saying about my name.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: But what I was getting to something because it was something we was talking about.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: I had to come back and have to get up.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_03]: So what I was saying was like, I understand why somebody like Dame, people would say or he broke because unfortunately.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know what I was going to go.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: What I was going to say is that we have to allow black folks.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: to change positions.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we call fall and off, right?
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: So like Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player up until in the United States.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: And he could have been like, he fell off.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: But he, but because he, we love Michael Jordan, he made more money from the United States to now than he made his career when he was actually supposed to make the most money, right?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: So yes.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that's, so for me, it's like we just have to allow black folks to change positions where we got to allow black folk to go from player to coach.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: And like, and like, and player coach to owner also, we just got to allow the growth and the fall off.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: So when Dame started bringing up the fall off thing, he, he'll nigga.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I ain't gonna lie to you.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being a genius.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: I ain't gonna lie to you.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think Dame is one of the elis niggas.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: I never talked to because you know, everybody's laughing.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, why they laughing, right?
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: They don't even know what I'm doing.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: He told me some shit that I was so ill.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you off camera.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: That he was tempo.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, yo, look, bro.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm playing the white man's gang.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: nigga, nothing is in my name.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: You can't you can't get me for nothing.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: So every nigga that's all he's trying to sue me keep going.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't own shit.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, what's the nigga that's the Trump game, right?
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the Trump game that's a Rockefeller.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right?
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now here.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think we're told everything.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: But this is the part.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but nigga's laugh.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we got to stop doing.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: We got to stop laughing at a nigga as you caten us on how to deal with the devil.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: And that's all I would say about that.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: We got to allow niggas to be in different places.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm glad that you said that because I think it is it is so sickening that in our community.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_03]: We look to like we take joy in the downfall of us.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: Our community is the only community that lasts at effort.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like, how does that make sense?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like, how do we say, how do we say enjoy?
- 28:22[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and I don't even hope said this, right?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_03]: Hope says that that we have a weird relationship with success.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_03]: First, they love you, then they hate you, then they love you again.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_03]: Like we have this weird relationship where if we're starting out and you're struggling and I'm on the rise, everybody's behind you.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_03]: What you make it, it almost feels like, now you're the eye, now you're the enemy.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna tell you why.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: As one of those people that was once a hater.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was one of the people that was once.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm being real with you.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is why I know I'm ill.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like when I didn't have no direction, I hate it too.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: When I didn't know what I was gonna do in my life, I of course I hate it on the niggas of playing basketball.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: Nikki, I'm born six for four.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: Mother fucker.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: I wish I, you know, of course you, so I understand it, but here's why they do it.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: They're doing it because they don't think you could do it, but they don't want to you to laugh in a face.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: So they tell you in your face, you can do it.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: And then you do it and then they're like, well, damn, at least I told me could do it, but then eventually the real feeling show up.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: Eventually the damn, and I actually got by another car, damn bro, I thought she was happy with what I was doing.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: You started sensing the hate.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what it is.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I get that.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's funny because I also believe that a lot of people want what you have, but they're not willing to do what you're willing to do for it, right?
- 29:38[SPEAKER_03]: So like behind the scenes, like I know, like we, you know, salute, salute our brother Mike.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: We got to say business manager, like I know how hard you work.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_03]: And I know how you work.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm saying, and so a lot of times people don't see that though, right?
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: They only see what you post.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_03]: And so when people think that yo, I see Ash pop up in this or he's doing this.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: So I see Ray doing it.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, but do you understand what I'm, and that's my point.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: And the people that don't understand are the people who are sitting on the sidelines.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, laughing.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let me explain them to you.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: No one that has ever tried will laugh at you.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's the fact.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: If someone has tried, they will not laugh at you.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: There's a famous saying, the only difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the extra.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: And we are the only community that hates extra.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, be extra like I do some if I try is like bro We literally our our community is oxymoron because we say black excellence, but we laugh at it before it gets there So for me is like for me is like that's what I'm trying to tell people like me like hey nigga They don't give a fuck they gonna laugh at you no matter what so go keep going and then you'll get to a room what they're not laughing on
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: They realized them.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: I literally live in a different world from people that I grew up with.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, our world is so different because not because of the money I have, but because of the people I talk to.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking to Mike's.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking to Ashcast.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking to NATK's.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking to people who are getting busy.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not talking to somebody who's on a corner talking about somebody else doing it.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: What what the last of you sat around talk with somebody else was doing if it wasn't involved in strategy for us?
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even do that.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even do that.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: But that's what we do in the hood all day.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: Man, because I'm more money than him.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's bigger than him.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and it's like, Doug, why y'all are you and they out there getting more money and I didn't want to argue.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: No, I want to go.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be one of the niggas that they was arguing about.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: He really got it.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: He really got it.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: I rather be that dude than a dude.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's an argument.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: All right, it's very nice.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_03]: So talk to me a little bit about like, so you've sold what hundreds of millions of records, right?
- 31:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we've done it in these records, bro.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good life, right?
- 31:38[SPEAKER_03]: good life, I understand the game, so I know there's residuals, there's income coming in, but you're at a space now when you think about the music business today, and you think about the music business when you got in, what does an artist have to do today to be successful?
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you have to be the business.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, there was a point in time where, you know, at the music business was a building that was the Empire State Building and if Ash Ray or anybody who was in there let you in, you was in the game.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: Um, now.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Empire State Building is empty and it's surrounded by a whole bunch of smaller buildings and you have to be one of those smaller buildings as an artist.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: You have to have your own CEO which is your manager.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: You better have a CEO which is your business manager.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: You better have an assistant.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: You better have everything together because that building, they don't house anybody anymore.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: They just let people sit next to them because they have big attraction.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody going to see the Empire State building, right?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to see the builders around it and that's how you want to get your business.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to win in today's music business, you have to be and do everything.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Or you have to be incredibly good at two things.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that is making music number one and somehow telling the story of the music you make new content.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: If you could do those two things,
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, you got to be realistic.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you can have a okay manager, okay, whatever.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you're still win because eventually the good people will come.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, how am I true?
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody told me your, somebody was working on your party, told me to help mine, to where yours is.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, oh, ass is killing it.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: I do it.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then I find out they ain't doing that for you.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well, guess what?
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now we got the same who?
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: because that's how the world works.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: The world works in your favor when you try it.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I say our community loses because we laugh at effort in the only reason why you and I are up here is because what we do every day is give effort.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, one thousand percent, seven thousand percent, one thousand percent.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_03]: And so talk about so you have this concept, right?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_03]: The four artists agreements.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I wrote a book called The Four Artists Agreement.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why I did it was because
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, my, my, my, my executive coach should challenge me.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: One day, she said, Ray, I'm going to give you an exercise.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to write down four things that you want every artist to know about the music as you major on rules.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, OK, so I did it.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, you know, I don't even think about it.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: Did it.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then I was reading it to it just next week, teacher, like,
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, right, this is good.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, this is good, right?
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: And she, like, this need to be a book.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, yeah, it shipped me.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'm a writer book and I went to hire the author.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: I wrote the book and then I really believe it is, if you think the God show and anything, I think that this book is the greatest value of I've ever given to any business.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's the, the Grimmys are except you are product.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, define your product.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: except your product, define your product.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: The last one is always be thankful and the third one is commit to the process.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: In a way, I wrote it in a way where if you are the CEO of a major label, you want every artist you signed to read it and if you are mother whose kid wants to be a music, you want them to read it.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: I wrote it to the fourteen year old Ray and it's broken down in a very easy, scientific way to win in music and
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: I've had people read it.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_00]: I would love for you to read it.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: I have people read it.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_00]: You read everything.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you did.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, see.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's why you like it then.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: I've got a set of seats.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, anybody read it was like it helps them with their branding.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: It helps them with how they look at it.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so you know, it is like it's it's it's it's it's it's giving you a perspective on music.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's relatable to everybody.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because I feel like sometimes when you want to dream, you know, you like, man, it's so big up there.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: You walk, you know, I don't want to mess it up.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: You just realize, Doug, it's not that big.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: Right here in front of you, just be yourself and go in and do it like this and you'll win.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what it was.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: And so speaking of that, though, right, you make a bold statement in the book and you kind of mentioned that, you say you are not a person.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_03]: You are the product.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: Why is that mindset so crucial for today's artist?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: Great question.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad you read the book.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited to talk to you, man.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: I forgot.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: This is what it's about.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know what it is?
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: I've been in the room with so many artists that have said, I'm human.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: Not a fucking nut.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're not human.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: You're just like this microphone.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: You're just like that camera that went on.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: We are here to sell it.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to be human, then you should go home.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: Beyonce is not human.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: You don't think Beyonce gets hurt.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: You don't think Beyonce gets cries.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: It gets hurt.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a part of her brand.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: When you heard Beyonce, Beyonce is like, you must not know about me.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: I have another you in a minute.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's her brand.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: Adele is like, I pray I find someone like you.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: Same concept.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: So what you have to figure out is how to define your product and the system and put it out.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Drake is a product like Drake made a record call after police people would be like what is he doing?
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: Walk Drake just had a running with the police yesterday.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: He mad at them.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: He won't make a song.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: But that's not the product you will use when used to getting from you.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: You don't say after police.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: Drake you wrapped the girls you wrapped the party.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like you are a product you just understand now like it's like it's like
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you take your wife shopping and you take her to, you know, brothers and co-factory, she know what it is.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: It compared if you take it a Louis.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get something, but it's going to look nice, but one is way more.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, it's really just setting the stage for what this is.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: And because when you accept that you are proud of, the second rule is now, let's define it.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: See, now what I just did was I just took ash, the man, and pay ash cash, the character.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about the character as cash and what they could do.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the fine in the character, right?
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: So accept the short product, define it, and then commit to the process.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: And here's how I started.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: I stopped the third chapter.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: If you ain't willing to go ten years, every day of your life committed to one thing like nothing and knowing that there is a big chance you won't get nothing on the other side of it.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: If you still want to go, this game is for you.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: If this game is for you, if you still want to go.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's what that's what it is.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what I mean by except your product because it's like for us going to be a lot.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to hit shit about yourself.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to hit think people talking about you.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to get on line and see people say you're whackin' this this.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're not talking about you.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're talking about the product you gave them.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: So when I see people online saying this dude is dumb.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: This dude is this.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: I hate this dude.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: You're not talking about Raymond Charles Daniels.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about Ray Daniels, the culture referee.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I want you to talk about.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's there to be a referee when you are a sports fan, right?
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like the next.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: So Nick, hey, that referee called a play against us.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: What we doing?
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a referee, guys.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna boo sometimes.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm saying what I see.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: You got Nick's colors on too.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, sir.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm representing.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_03]: No, but I love that you say that, right?
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: Because I mean, you know, I battle with it all the time because a lot of times like even when, I mean, I don't listen to the comments or listen to what people have to say.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: I know the lives that I say that know the people that I help.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes though the person
- 39:12[SPEAKER_03]: gets upset when someone who's not on that, that's not in the ring is critiquing, but to your point, I always remember that I'm the product, they don't know me.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: But not only that.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I am a coach.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the dude that coached a dude that's one in the ring.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I saw I talk about it with so confidence.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I might offend you, but did I say anything that I didn't call you out your name?
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: All I did was say what I saw, I would never disrespect nobody, but I will tell the truth because I feel like
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: People, maybe the world don't need it.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: But people like me need the truth.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: People like me need the truth.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like me.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a person that you got a lot to.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a person that don't tell me I'm handsome in my hands.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: Call me ugly.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: I rather you tell me ugly to my face before it cause I can fix ugly.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: But if I walk around here thinking I'm handsome, the whole room is laughing at my ugly ass.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: Who's the only friend in the room?
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: The friend in the room is a police to the side.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: Be like everybody think you ugly.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for that.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now I can go fix myself.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's the real friend.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm hoping that's going to not tell you the truth.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I consider myself a real friend to the game.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm telling you, I would try to need to fuck the air, whether you like it or not.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: in a world of, you know, viral moments, sick talks, you believe that most artists are unprepared for real careers.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_03]: Why do you believe that?
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: Man, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of artists
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: Artists are no different than the people that I'm pretty sure coming to you about their dream, their business, their goal.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: They really just want to make a little bit of money.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then, but they're not committed to like, like, what I mean about that is like, you got artists out of coming to room and say, I want to be McDonald's.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: And you'll be like, let's go.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't know they was talking about one McDonald's.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: You can go to one of the one old national.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: You want to just be, I thought you wanted to be McDonald's, not one be McDonald's.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what happened with a lot of artists.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_00]: They say they want to be stars until they realize the work that got to be put into.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: They say they want to be stars.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: They realize how much work they got to put in when they ain't no cameras rolled.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: They say that, and I'm like, bro, if you wanna do this, you have to do this.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm selling a product, my goal should be, I should have one goal to perfect it to the audience once the buy it.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: And if you accept your product and you start defining it, you just figured out the number one thing all this need to figure out, which is your direction.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't know where you're going.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't, I don't give a damn how good your manager is.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't give a damn how much money you got behind you.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care how good your label is.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't know where you're going, you're not gonna win.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: And if you know what you're going, you could have the worst manager, the worst label, the worst everything that you're still with.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I'm putting direction is.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's what my book is about.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's about direction.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's saying, hey, look, I know you want to be a music, and you want to read Donald Passman's book about what you need to know about the music business and the points and the royalties.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: None of that shit matters if you don't learn this first.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't learn nothing about it.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't learn a pub deal wasn't till I was doing one.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know Ask Cap or BMI gave a vassus, so I was getting one.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know about it until it was time for me to know.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the problem trying to tell people, most of y'all are frustrated, because y'all only know one thing.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, fuck the business.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: Nick, if you hate the business, you hate yourself.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: Fix yourself in the business of follow the you.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, yeah.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: Similar to that, as you don't feel like you, do you feel like you cost playing?
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need that.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being myself.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's what in this work, they're right around.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I'm trying to get people to see.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_03]: But we see with that, that's the other thing on two.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that's why you're successful.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's why I'm successful because the things that like at any moment, right?
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: Like if you think about like for instance, like I'm in the financial education skills, right?
- 42:47[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care what nobody else is doing.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: You could, I don't care because at the end of the day, people know my voice.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_03]: My voice is different from every other financial educatedness out there.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm okay knowing that I may not be the voice force.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, I'm not saying, I'm not being the voice we use.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's also saying, I might be the product you want to buy.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm trying to do.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: So listen if it's not for them, it's you got to be okay and that's what I want art like ours to get mad at artists are right for you and then you'd be like it's terrible like imagine the soldier will welcome to you till I got this hit soldier boy off in it.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, walk me you probably be like okay nigga.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_00]: He puts it out it becomes a hit now everybody shoot man do it.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's like
- 43:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's what most artists are finesse in.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you are an artist right now and you're waiting for someone like Ray or day or anybody to see you and if you tell your family, if they see me my life changer, you are the definition of two thousand twenty five hoop dreams.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's because you know I ain't gonna see.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know that ain't gonna see you because you ain't doing the damn work.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned something you said you said two thousand five version of who dreams.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's that's for actually part of your story.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right?
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a play is you read the book for real.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: Is it funny?
- 44:16[SPEAKER_03]: Is it funny?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_03]: Is it funny?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's story with with with a girl calls your who dreary my life.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: How did how did how did I say get your value so you're just so so I'm a real Atlanta nigga, right?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: So this one I got to tell you about Atlanta.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if y'all from Atlanta, but
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: Atlanta Niggas is playing us like like we all see how Tracy T if future how did they girl problems like we Atlanta Niggas the reason why I tell people because there's so many women here that they'll always be somebody to pull up so I'm gonna let a nigga you know I discover when I'm eighteen the AU Center
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: Clark's film in Morehouse.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: I meet a girl.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm working at the airport pushing wheelchair.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just a nobody.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I discovered this, I meet this girl, go to school at Spelman.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm walking around like all these girls are here.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm basically hanging out at the, that was my hangouts by the weekend.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'll part my car and just go hang on to college campus.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the age.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody no-one go here like I'm fresh as hell.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was like I got a dad with money on campus because I got you know I got a job so I got nice clothes and everything and I was messing with the I saw I caught this so it's really a I made it the girl one person, but here's the real story I caught this so I hit I hit I was at Georgia State and I caught this girl in a Monday I hit it Monday and then Tuesday she saw me outside the same place trying to catch another girl
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: and she just kind of gave me when I'm looks like, oh, that's who you are.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: But she also knew I didn't go to school there, because you know, when something had dorms, she's like, so what dorm you and I'm like, oh, I don't go to my cousin go to school here, my cousin didn't go to school here.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: I was just making that shit up, setting fate.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so so she basically sent me this text message like, yeah, you might have got some from me last night, but I'm going to college and I'm going to be somebody.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: You ain't going to be five years or three years now, you're going to be still here trying to miss, he girls.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: That hits me.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: So now I have a female friend that I'm hanging out with.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: And she just annihilates me.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: And she was like, you know, I could let you live, I could tell you the truth.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, tell me the truth.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think of you a hoop dreamer.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: She was like, nigga, I'm a my junior year.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do with yourself all day?
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, I work.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: So, so what are you telling girls you do?
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Are you selling one of promis or something?
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's what men do.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: You fuck with me.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I got it.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, like, it's kind of a man thing.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, Nick and you will hold very much.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: Nick, I'm gonna see you twenty years now.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna be lost.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm still beginning money.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: I have been looking her name is Nicky.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: She went to Moore's Brown.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: I've been looking for her to give her a hug.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: because she might have just checked the name of that night.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: And don't even know, it's two people I'm looking for.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: Her and his guy named Philip prior.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, three, Philip prior, who was my boss at Delta and his guy named Mr. Camp, who was my teacher at Bannaker.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: I learned more from those three moments, shaped my entire who I am as an adult.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, just so I always wanted to just see him to tell him, thank you for what they said to me.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_03]: and I love the consistency of that, right?
- 46:55[SPEAKER_03]: Because you're the person that says, you know, I need the truth, right?
- 46:59[SPEAKER_03]: Always.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: The truth will help you fix that.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_03]: And so while somebody else will probably look at the truth and be like, yo, she is a hater, yo, she tried to crush my dreams.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_03]: And I want to show her, like I did it, but at the end of the day, I want to thank you.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_03]: Let me tell you something, last my life.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: the greatest thing someone can give you is the truth.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: I just tell me the truth.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, their truth might not be the world truth.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: It could just be the truth based on what they see.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: But if they see something that you don't see, that little something can change your entire world.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: So to me, like, that's why I'm like a true teller, like whether you, and by the way, to ask your question about how do I do it, I don't know how I'm gonna be received.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't, but I don't care, right?
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: Because I tell any artist, once you jump off the porch, you can't focus on what the audience is saying, you gotta focus on what, you gotta chase your, your greatness, and that's how you went.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I've been doing.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_03]: And so now, right, of course, because he said, look, twenty years, you're not gonna be nothing.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_03]: Twenty years, you at the top of the top.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_03]: When I think about, like what you're doing, you built, like a multi-million dollar business, you built radar into one of the most respected platforms in music.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: What's your long-term vision?
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, you know, they say if you tell God your plan, you want to make a lap, tell me your plan.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, my vision is more of a direction.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: My direction is just, so how do I explain it like, it's his movie.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: Anybody know me in our reference movies?
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: This is movie called Pleasantville.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, okay, so the movie starts off and black and white, right?
- 48:36[SPEAKER_00]: The whole movie's black and white and then there's woman and it's a town called Pleasantville and it's woman comes to town and she's in color and everybody's looking like it's woman's color and everything she touches or encounters turns to color so you can start going around town realize like oh that's color she must have been here, right?
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: So for me I want everything I touch to feel to turn into color
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: So if you heard me, I want to give you a, I want to change the way you see things, give it more vivid picture.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: So you can actually see if what it is and not what the world told you.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I wanted it.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_03]: And that's such a great, because I used to work at blockbuster videos, like still pleasant villain.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's just, that's such a great analogy because I think that you know, a lot of times again to your point.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_03]: this level of authenticity is missing, right?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_03]: Because that's one thing that I see in the music industry that I don't like today, because back when I, and I don't know, you know, I want to say the dipset era, the little Wayne era, that's what blended it.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_03]: Because back in the day, I could look at you and be like, that's he from New York, he from Atlanta, he from Chicago, he from here.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_03]: And then there was a moment in the early two thousands where you turn on a television and I do not know where you're from.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: everybody looks the same, right?
- 49:47[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's in black and white, the internet, the internet, right?
- 49:51[SPEAKER_03]: It mixed the cult, like there's no culture, like everybody sounds the same.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_03]: I was hearing New York drill, and I'm like, is this Chicago?
- 49:59[SPEAKER_03]: Or is this New York?
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there was so much blending, right?
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: So in that type of world, right?
- 50:07[SPEAKER_03]: In that type of world, and so there's a lot of smokes and mirrors, like, how do you regain your state authentic, right?
- 50:13[SPEAKER_03]: How do you keep your integrity inside?
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: When you are authentic, your spirit irritates fake people.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: And my favorite thing to do in life is the people watch.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: I love watching people.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a Virgo.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Jackson is a Virgo.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: I just like watching people because you can learn from them.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: You can learn their habits.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: People watching people show you the unconscious version of themselves because I could ask like I could see you be looking at you but I know this guy's having a bad day.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: I could tell and I could go and be like yeah, how's your day going?
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's like it's not right.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just I could read it and tell you so for me, I just like the people watch so I can understand them.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: And what was your question?
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I won't make sure I get to it.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_03]: So how do you stay off and off and off?
- 51:00[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: Perfect.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: And how do you get in secret?
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I stay up.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm myself.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_00]: And what I would.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_00]: I would feel lame being anything but myself.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like I feel lame being anything but Ray.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: I talk to myself.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty four seven three sixty five.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll say to myself, Ray, why do you do that?
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know that was lame.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: That is like damn I shouldn't have done that.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I can admit like I shouldn't have said about damn and there's a lot of people like yeah nigga.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: He got your ass.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like nigga.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: You're watching a human learn and admit he's lying was greater than that exact was a better example than that.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's why we don't like Donald Trump because he just want to admit he was if he just said I fucked up I think people are like a more yeah, but he just won't admit.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I said that I shouldn't have said that and to me I think that's what people want and to answer your question
- 51:48[SPEAKER_00]: Even with you, pen attention was going on with TV right now.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: TV is dying.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is dying.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's because people are taught of fake facts.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_00]: They just want to feel like it's real.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, honestly, man, the internet is way more interesting than TV.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's the fact.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: What they say fiction is more, um, uh, fact is more, um, interesting.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's fiction.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_03]: And so, uh, what do you want your legacy to be?
- 52:11[SPEAKER_03]: I just am music, but in the culture like me.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_03]: went with fifty years from now.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: How do you hear from them when they talk about radians when you want that legacy to be?
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: I want people to be able to say, you know what I say?
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: I am you are those guys over there behind the camera everybody over there we are all on a yellow brick road of life and we're looking for the whiz and most of the time and what I want to be is someone who's on that road that you run into and tell you ain't no god damn whiz it's a lie.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I know they want you to be that to be the movie but the niggas a lie.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: Let me tell you you go get it but let me just give you some a game.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_00]: The courage, he's going to give you, it took the find him.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: The brains that you're praying for, that you took the, it took those brains to find them.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's the mind fuck.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_00]: As you, they stop chasing, stop trying to qualify with people.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: Do you believe?
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: And if you believe, and you are honest with yourself, that's all you should have and go with that.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: So my legacy is just telling people, I don't want you to listen to Ray.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to listen to as cast.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to listen to you.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_00]: You would do you believe because
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: I am living my life, my bank account, my life, my life, everything I have is based on how I think.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_00]: Everything I have is based on you thing and everything you have is based on how you think.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: So stop looking at me trying to find holes in my shit and just pick what you like.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't what I'm saying and focus on incorporating that to who you are and go win.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking of bank accounts, you've made millions of dollars.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_03]: in this business, in business, in period.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: What is the biggest money lesson you've learned and what is the biggest money mistake that you've made?
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: Money lesson I learned is learn about money.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: Even because money scares us, money is like love.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_00]: No one wants to fumble it.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, no one wants to be like, man, you had ten million dollars or no, you're back into who, no one wants to hear that.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I think because no one wants to hear that, think about subconsciously you don't want to fuck it up, subconsciously means you don't want it.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: So for the first guy, it's just being honest, right?
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like the first mistake I made is like learn about it, don't be afraid of it.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: If you plan on having a lot of it, then you should learn as much about it as you can.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I didn't want to do.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I say the biggest money mistake I made was it was two.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: I want two lessons that I learned in music.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't mind sharing.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: So the first one was the song that we did on the pussycat dolls when I grow up.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you know that one.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: I grow up.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be famous.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be a star.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do movies, which was actually written for Britney Spears.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's why the lyric goes, but be careful with you, which because you just might get it, because this is around the time where Britney was like cutting a hair off and everything else.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, so we make the record.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_00]: So the story is so good.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: So we make the record.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the second.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: So here's what's happening, right?
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: So in order for us to get in the music business, we make this record from the co-sersica named Supervillant.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: Super villain change our life.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: That song made us one point five million and it never came out and never did nothing.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: But Jimmy loved this so much that and Jimmy was the big he's the man, right?
- 55:29[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody every time you walk in Jimmy office, he's like, do we play this in a cold single?
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: And he's playing our record our demo and everybody's like, are they published?
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: Who are they?
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: So people publishes meeting with us like
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: Play us the record Jimmy loves we plan it.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously published it there.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: We signed it.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, so what we do when I so now fast forward, we work with Rodney Jericho shots around and he taught me to listen.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: We doing when I grow up.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_00]: And Rodney is like, who could do this?
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna send it to Brittany.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm gonna also send it to an Erica Grayson.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: We sent it to Erica.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: Erica says it to Jimmy.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: Jimmy calls Rodney.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it was like a Saturday.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_00]: It was like a Friday or a Saturday.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_00]: So Jimmy calls Rodney and Jimmy is like, I want the record.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: No, but
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: Erica calls me and she's like Jimmy wants to record and I was like Nah, and but I was saying no because we gave the co-surs because it's super villain and it didn't go so I'm like We're gonna get in the color another record like nah, let's give it to Brittany like and then it would seem like Jimmy wants it so I never forget so she was like what Jimmy wants it and that's this I'll call writing jerkins and writing it was like I'm a handle it and I was like yeah, you handle it
- 56:34[SPEAKER_00]: and they get Jimmy Alvin, you sent Ronny Jerkins in his family, a private jet.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: Flute them, move them from Orlando to LA, bottom of a house, studio, and everything off our hour record.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: What I, the lesson that I learned is where you talk for your shit, too.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: because if I would have said, no, Jimmy would have been like, pick them up, but Jimmy felt like, well, they're gonna do it.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how Rodney, you know, that's that.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: So here's the second lesson.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: Second lesson is, and the lesson I learned is, speak for yourself.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: The second biggest mistake was Molly Cyrus.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: So we get a phone call, they go to me, work with Molly Cyrus, and this is Hannah Montana.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_00]: And, nigga, we go this through to see Molly, and it was like a movie, right?
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, she is, she is really who she is.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that is not her being fake.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: What's up bro?
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm like, I'm still like this hand in my fucking tent right so you know we cut two songs that day never forget we cut twenty three the hook goes on in the club higher perp with some shades on Tettit a mini skirt with some jails on so we do that record and then we did this record call we can't stop we can't stop
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: So she cuts both of her records the same day.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm in, and by the way, they call Juicy Jay and, and with Khalifa, they come get on the record, twenty-three, Molly Cyrus and it's smoking weed, nigga dance on the couch is nigga, I'm like, so we're in America, nigga, no, nigga, let's just, let's just, let's just, let's just, let's just have to that.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_00]: So let's just, I'm in a room, and I'm like, this white girl.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_00]: who you know in LA is different.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like in Atlanta, we don't really mention the white folks like that.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like we might, but if we miss that, we gotta work with you.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_00]: But we ain't just hanging out with white folks in Atlanta.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like we are Black City.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_00]: So you know in LA, you know, look the guy white boys, I mean the black guys, that was the white girl.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a different, I don't know how they do it.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we in the studio, they turn it up and I'm like,
- 58:16[SPEAKER_00]: And Molly, and at the time, and it's not no secret, but at the time, Molly and Mike were like, an item, Mike will, right?
- 58:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that's our boy.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm watching Mike will, like, throw out a blunt, like, roll that shit up.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, she just, like, a chicken, like a chicken and a liner.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, the she worked towards a million dollars.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you're all the blusher, everybody.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, she's rolling up there.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_00]: So the show, like, so Mike will walk us outside of, he's like, yo, I'm doing a project.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all should come and do it with me.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then we walked off.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, nigga, we ain't going back.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, nigga, we are not going to be the niggas that kill Hannah Montana for America.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_00]: But what I didn't know was that Miley was going to own it the way she did.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_00]: And we had three songs in that little moment, but we would have had every song.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, and that was when I was like, you know, walk on like, man, I ain't going to like, I'm like, America ain't going to hate us for killing a little.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_00]: They sweet heart.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 59:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like she loses her mind.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_00]: They like, it was them.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_00]: They gave her bedrooms.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want to be a part of that.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I was like, now I'm straight.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, she wants it.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we did really good from it.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_00]: We got this.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: We had the first single.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_00]: And we had the twenty three was one triple platinum.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: But we couldn't have had the whole project and probably had a better relationship with her.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_00]: But I just was kind of like, uh, because in Atlanta, you know, we don't get down like that.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, hey, you get your ass whip.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: Hang around to me.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: Black girls act them, you know, dancing this shit.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, that bitch ass.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just, I was, I was just like, I didn't want to hurt her, right?
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't go back and it was like, fuck, I should have went back.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, less is learned.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but but on but you know, four full circle though that lesson also when you think about who you are now.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_03]: It really, you know, transcend that it's my point.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of why I talked the way I exactly because if somebody was talking because remember the way I came up, I didn't believe in nobody said
- 59:55[SPEAKER_00]: because I thought nobody saw me.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_00]: So nigga, you probably telling me that for you, you telling me that for you.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: You're not telling me that for me.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I had to figure it off myself.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_00]: And once I did, I was like, man, I'm a really, I'm a really star sharing these stories because it's authentic, it's real, and no one can lie.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_00]: No one can say, by the way, as much as I'm talking, has anybody from the music business ever refused anything else?
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_00]: I go.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's the fact.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's because I'm talking the way the CEO of the Labor Day Center.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's how we talk in the rules on everybody around, but I don't think I can't go in.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then he wouldn't be like damn nigga, you was like yo, my bad, but the world didn't see.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_00]: I just do it publicly in the world season.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm kind of good at it.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_03]: So it's work.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_03]: You kind of respect those tools again.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think that there's a, you know, there's a, your people are afraid to give their paying their freight to be wrong, their freight to fumble in front of people.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_03]: They're afraid of the transition.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_03]: They're afraid to show the public, I was doing this.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing this now.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_03]: They're afraid of that.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: Greatness has one goal and you can never be afraid to go after it.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_00]: It has one goal.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_00]: If you're chasing greatness, the last thing you care is about any opinion on earth.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: unless it's your coach who's coaching you, like a teacher who's teaching you, but if you're chasing greatness like greatness has like I don't care listen, you're not like sports over music because you know we had the LeBron MJ argument, but you've never heard a Michael Jordan Dominique Wilkins argument.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_00]: And Dominique is a great, but you never heard that argument, right?
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why is because the sports is finite, once it's over, it's over.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_00]: And music, we can come back tomorrow.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like the soup bowl is, oh, we got a start stop for six months.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_00]: So our new season, music on our dance is perpetual.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of like the only thing that separates it to.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I'm doing that now.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I predict the clips first week.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I didn't go and do this.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: And they gave us a big deal on the internet.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody was like, Ray, Dan, you said I'm like, Dan, they, they see me, but that takes balls the quick.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you say you an expert, right, and you put your shit out there, and it, haha, dude, I think we do, it's like, so it's, but Jason Lee taught me this.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: Jason Lee said that he got this for Floyd.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's what made me go to greatness.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_00]: Cause Floyd is great.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_00]: And Jason said Floyd told him, stop worrying about what they think about you.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to fuck with you anyway.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_00]: And when Jason told me that, I thought about it.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, so I don't care if you don't like me.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_00]: I got my people right there.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_00]: So when I leave here, I'm going home.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm gonna wake up tomorrow.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna go to my office and work.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_00]: I might pull up with you to old boys stuff, anything.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_00]: But like, even then I'm gonna, I'll pull up with somebody.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a nigga that just goes places.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a Nick, cause I don't know how am I get greeted and I'm still who I am and I got niggas with me is like, oh, it could go bad.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, I'll come with you want me to.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_00]: So at least I can say if somebody asks what you're doing here, I was invited.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, that's all about him right there.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I'll cover my ass.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_00]: But if you don't invite me, I ain't coming.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_03]: My last question is that anything that I did not ask you that you want to leave like a jam or something you want to leave with without audience.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um, no, but if I can leave a gem with you guys, it's something that I say and I think inside the bottle's the best place.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_00]: I did a video that kind of viral.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_00]: I do it here.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_00]: If you double a penny, thirty times, you get a hundred and fifty seven dollars.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm sorry.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you take a penny and you double it, fifteen times, you get a hundred and sixty seven dollars.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: If you double it, fifteen more times, you get five point three million.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_00]: Most of y'all are losing because y'all are trying to get everything on a front end.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_00]: The front end is what you put in the work.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_00]: The back end is what you get paid.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was called.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: The back end.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_03]: And it's funny because one of my mentors says, um, that amateurs get paid in the front end.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_03]: You told me that.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, let's ask those to get there in the back end.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the truth because also, and this, this kind of ties it all in about the beliefs is that the reason why most people want to get paid in the front end because they don't really believe.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_03]: Right?
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_03]: To your point, you say, oh, if you're not willing to go ten years with the thought process that this thing might not work, then you don't really believe.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_03]: And it's those people, and the truth of the matter is, even if the fact that you say that I'm willing to put ten years in and not get something out of it, your signal answer to a universe that you believe, and I don't believe that I don't even think it's possible for you not to be successful.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_00]: And the universe will reward you, reward you, because you have to believe it's real.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the dog.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_00]: I forgot that's your statement.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how much is their front and the professional back in?
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_00]: And they're cannot be worried and faith in the same place.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's the fact.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, when I'm worrying, because I'm human, I'm worried.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'd immediately go to God.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, wow, I'm worried because of this.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to him.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_00]: I give it to him.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I allow it to be what it's going to be, but man, the one that I will say is man, this is the most beautiful journey ever.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_00]: And you look like you have a form, brother.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_03]: So here's what I'll say, though, too.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_03]: is the Ray Daniels you'll see on the camera is actually the same Ray Daniels you see behind the scenes.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm fun.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_03]: Very fun.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't know if you show this, but I don't know if they know how much you love your team, your family, your friends.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_03]: That's the one thing that I appreciate about you.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_03]: I think that that's the one thing that
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care how people treat me.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_03]: I always watch how people treat the people around them because I know at this stage of the game, um, I'm somebody, right?
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's cool, like I get certain treatments or whatever, but I always pay attention to, you know, how does rated treat as team?
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_03]: How does Ray treat his family?
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_03]: That's the one thing that I really, because I'm a family.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_00]: I read it and oh boy ain't.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right, that was between like, and now with my biggest issue is like a family over everything.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_00]: That is literally, I cannot wait to work.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait to bring money home back to give my kids like that.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I am.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_03]: And so funny, I was watching one of your videos.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I put a spot on my face, man, you talk to your mother.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's the way you love when your mother, your children.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, the way you love when your family is just, it's just dope.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_03]: And again, it says a lot about a man's character.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's a man, listen, if more men, and that's another thing I know, more men love their families and their significant others and just everybody in life like we did.
- 1:06:09[SPEAKER_00]: The black community would be so much better.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_00]: The biggest thing that hurts us is I had to choose towards each other.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_00]: And my thing is like, hey, my nigga, I didn't do it.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't do it.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_00]: No one did it.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, no one, you didn't do it to me.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_00]: But let's leave our shit outside.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_00]: And let's come clean and figure out and get what we want.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I mean by seeking.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_00]: Just seek.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_00]: Just go figure it out.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_00]: Just go learn it and stop thinking that it's not for you.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_00]: And just try.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, if you, if you laugh and ask someone's self effort,
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_00]: You'll never try.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fact.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I don't laugh at nobody.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fact.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_00]: Because I know how hard it is to try.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all, we finally didn't.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all, we are closing out the vault.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_00]: Man, we got so much money.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_00]: We got so much shit going on like my God.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's so pretty.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_00]: we met this is this is the beauty like we met because we both do the same thing but that and even the nature of what we do it is like so when you hear me about this out of arms like oh yeah of course it's kind of like yeah I didn't think it was like it is like no it's like showing up so yeah I appreciate you have me
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, I, you know, I publicly say this, though, is that the divide, you know, we all, we all, you know, go off here and then, nobody can't stop divine alignment.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, because the one thing out, like I like, like, I mean, we talk about, you know, our mutual connection.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_03]: And the one thing that I will say is,
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_03]: at one point, you know, once I found, like I said, I knew you before the guys to show.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_03]: And so once I found out that, you know, you were working with, you know, what my old business partner, on the show, I was disappointed.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_03]: Right?
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_03]: And I know that.
- 1:07:49[SPEAKER_03]: It was great.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_03]: But I wasn't disappointed because I'm like damn, you know, you know, he's messing with him.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_03]: I was disappointed because I thought that because of that you and I wouldn't put that in.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_00]: And it's also like because of who if you work with that person, then you might not get along with the type of person I am.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_00]: And the reality is people like that are only where they are because they
- 1:08:14[SPEAKER_00]: The one thing that he has is the balls that say what he wants.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm telling everybody, you just gotta just have balls.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_00]: But if you a good person, you look like I tell people that you cannot be great.
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not grateful.
- 1:08:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, facts, facts.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_00]: Greatness does not, you have to be grateful to get to greatness.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he are.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I am.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why the world awards us the way to do, because we show our gratefulness by how we love, how we share, how we teach.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, this is me being grateful.
- 1:08:42[SPEAKER_00]: I want to show up for you.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_03]: So that's it.
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_03]: And you know what you think about the divine alignment.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_03]: It's like
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I'm disappointed because I truly was like, yo, I rock with this duel.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_03]: I would love to connect with them.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_03]: But in my hand, I'm like, this has never happened.
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_03]: Right?
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_03]: God ahead of the plan.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_03]: So, but think about this.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_03]: Think about this, right?
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_03]: The irony, the irony that on his way out, yes, I bump into chess.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_03]: On his way out, I bump into the new person.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_03]: Who says yo, you know, right there?
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_03]: You never been on a go show.

- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not like, and that's how I handle the music.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, Ray, you want to go to this party.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_00]: If they have me, but if not, I'm fine while I'm at.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, love that you said that.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, so Elizabeth, Elizabeth, it's just a break.
