- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking about finding joy in the shorter days.
- 0:35Now I know, I know, I know, I know.
- 0:38It sucks when the sun comes up later and the sun goes down
- 0:42earlier and you feel like I just want the sunshine.
- 0:46I just want the sunshine. Why can't I have the sunshine?
- 0:49And we get so focused on the sun not being around.
- 0:53Humans are intrinsically tied to the sun.
- 0:56We like having it out. We like the brightness of it.
- 0:58It just seems to brighten our moods.
- 1:01So I thought it would be beneficial for us to talk about,
- 1:05you know, what do you do when the days are shorter?
- 1:07What do you do when it starts to feel heavier?
- 1:10Right. The darkness comes.
- 1:12Well, we can celebrate the darkness.
- 1:13What if we all of a sudden celebrated the darkness, the way
- 1:16we celebrated the sun? And I know that sounds strange,
- 1:19but it's and it won't work for everybody.
- 1:21So I let me. Preframe this by saying I know
- 1:23some of you are going to be like, Nope, I'm out, I get it.
- 1:26But I'm saying let's give it a shot.
- 1:28Let's figure out the things that we can do and create our habits
- 1:33around the fact that we are going to have colder, longer
- 1:36days. And so or, you know, longer
- 1:39nights, shorter days rather that are going to require us to
- 1:42change some things and maybe we have to set ourselves up to win.
- 1:45Like maybe it's like, all right, I'm going to get some really
- 1:47fantastic slippers. And I'm not joking when I say
- 1:50this, slippers are a really big thing in the in this time of
- 1:54year. Get some fabulous slippers, get
- 1:56new pajamas, get yourself some nice warm.
- 2:00You know blankets, if you don't have any that you can be cozy in
- 2:03because that makes you feel good, figure out how you want to
- 2:06change Stuff like this is a great time of the year to try
- 2:09different warm beverages. I'm not even joking.
- 2:11This is about doing those things that say how do I handle these
- 2:15darker times and make myself feel good about it.
- 2:18Well, warm drinks tend to warm us up like the sun does, so.
- 2:23Figure out, do I need to get some different warm drinks?
- 2:26Like I love brewing Chai from scratch because when you go buy
- 2:30the Chai in the containers, it's just filled with nothing but
- 2:32chemicals. So brew your own, get all the
- 2:35stuff that you need to make it up and brew it yourself.
- 2:38It's amazing when you do, especially with some honey, it's
- 2:41awesome. So start thinking about those
- 2:44types of things. Get your books that you want to
- 2:46read this fall and winter. Put them on your night stand so
- 2:50they're right there and you know you're going to start reading
- 2:52them. Figure out, do I want to try a
- 2:55new hobby that requires me to be stationary.
- 2:58So for me, I spend a lot of time outside, but when it gets like,
- 3:01you know, too cold or it's the weather's not great, I want
- 3:05indoor things to do. So I'll buy puzzles for our
- 3:08family to have and I'll, you know, have different art
- 3:10supplies so that we can all be working.
- 3:12Working on things. There is always something that
- 3:15you can do that can help you cultivate feeling better when
- 3:20you focus on it instead of focusing on the fact that it's
- 3:23dark and heavy and yucky and that's where your head goes.
- 3:27I hate this. Like I know myself.
- 3:30I'll get into this place where I'm like, oh, I hate the fact
- 3:32that, you know, it's dark at 4:00.
- 3:34It drives me crazy. But then there's a part of me
- 3:37that says, well, that makes me get cozy quicker.
- 3:40It puts me in my jammies quicker.
- 3:42It makes me feel like I can, you know, change my patterns, do
- 3:47different things that I I won't do other times.
- 3:50You know, if it if it got basically dark every day at 9:00
- 3:54at night, I certainly wouldn't be doing those things.
- 3:57So figure out what those little gifts that you can find
- 4:01yourself. In and do them, do it, do it.
- 4:04Just actually make a list of them and start cultivating them
- 4:06now so that it doesn't blindside you and make you feel like,
- 4:10wait, I don't know what to do instead, be like, ah, I got
- 4:13this, I'm prepared for this. I know one of my favorite things
- 4:17to do this time of year is be planning out what the gardens
- 4:20are going to look like and what I need to, you know, purchase
- 4:22for seeds and putting all that stuff together.
- 4:25Because I look at it and I say it's pure potential right now.
- 4:28It's a mess. It's all overgrown.
- 4:31The weeds are out of. Control.
- 4:32Everything has gone insane. It looks awful, but I know in
- 4:37there there's pure potential. I just have to figure it all
- 4:40out. I just have to pause.
- 4:41So it's going through all the seed catalogs.
- 4:43It's like ordering them ahead of time and sitting there and
- 4:46circling all the things that you want and then going back and
- 4:49saying, well, I don't really want to do all of that.
- 4:51That's way too much. I should probably pull back.
- 4:54Maybe not everybody has that problem, but I do so.
- 4:57It's setting it all up, figuring out what how do I want to
- 4:59redesign what I'm going to do for the girls in the chicken
- 5:02coop. All all different things.
- 5:04It's always something that can be fun to work on.
- 5:08You know, we live in a bountiful, you know, unbridled
- 5:13potential energy universe. If we're not tapping into it, it
- 5:17is not its fault. It's our fault we're here.
- 5:20We don't have to feel depleted and awful if unless we choose
- 5:24to. We get the choice.
- 5:26So I'm challenging you to find your way out of that and put
- 5:29yourself in a better headspace by doing these types of things.
- 5:32So start your planning. Start planning.
- 5:35All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:37will see you tomorrow. Bye.
