- 3:52Speaker 1: looking for a finedom drain and aspire to be our
- 3:55Speaker 1: human wallet, you can escort yourself over to our venmo
- 3:58Speaker 1: once again at look at ra dash radio. UM, we've
- 4:01Speaker 1: been told that maybe we should think about ways to
- 4:04Speaker 1: outreach and really like market, market to and target our
- 4:08Speaker 1: male listeners are are sisters head male followers and listeners.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So this is how we're doing that. If you are
- 4:15Speaker 1: a simple and you follow and listen and we know
- 4:18Speaker 1: you're out there, this is the way that we are
- 4:21Speaker 1: UM catering to you. This is your avenue hit the Venmo. Yes,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and now for the garnet. The main event of this
- 4:32Speaker 1: particular the post election week healthscape, gap beat the Low
- 4:39Speaker 1: and we are unpacking the Latino tote. There is a
- 4:43Speaker 1: Latino tote that I feel all of our conversations about
- 4:48Speaker 1: the like latin X participation in this election can fit into.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And we've been reading about it on Twitter and on
- 4:55Speaker 1: Instagram and on cable news, hearing like non latin X
- 4:59Speaker 1: people to talk about the Latin X vote, kind of
- 5:02Speaker 1: seeing the conversation, UM go on and on and on,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and we want to unpack the tote here with you
- 5:08Speaker 1: all today. And I actually think that we need to
- 5:10Speaker 1: make totes printed that's a Latino vote on them because
- 5:14Speaker 1: it's like now become a buzzword, it's a trending topic. Absolutely,
- 5:19Speaker 1: we have definitely kept up with the conversations about the
- 5:23Speaker 1: Latino vote, the Latin X vote, if you will, and um,
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's interesting to see non latin X folks or not
- 5:33Speaker 1: people of color, even mainly white people that have this
- 5:37Speaker 1: um they talk about the Latino vote, right and especially
- 5:40Speaker 1: in this election, of the number of Latinos and latin
- 5:43Speaker 1: X folks that have that showed up for Trump, which
- 5:45Speaker 1: is its own conversation. But like they failed to mention
- 5:49Speaker 1: the percentage of white people that voted for Trump. He
- 5:53Speaker 1: actually you know, went up in percentages of white voters.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So they need to collect their folks. We need to
- 6:00Speaker 1: collect our folks, right and everyone at those intersections. But
- 6:04Speaker 1: it's very interesting to see not to see white people
- 6:07Speaker 1: talk about the Latino the latin X vote in these ways. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and like you said, white people came out in even
- 6:16Speaker 1: larger numbers to vote for Donald Trump this election when
- 6:20Speaker 1: we compare to the sixteen numbers white people, even at
- 6:26Speaker 1: the white electorate, even post COVID nineteen fiasco, came out
- 6:31Speaker 1: even stronger for him. And it is bizarre. It's very telling,
- 6:36Speaker 1: but it also gives us a lot of insight to
- 6:40Speaker 1: the potential of like a liberal or left leaning electorate
- 6:46Speaker 1: to really pull together and get something accomplished, like at
- 6:51Speaker 1: the final hour, because it's sort of what we're seeing
- 6:54Speaker 1: right now, even though there's kind of a little coup
- 6:56Speaker 1: in progress, like white people came out in larger numbers,
- 6:59Speaker 1: but we still are beating them, which I think it
- 7:03Speaker 1: says something. Yeah. Absolutely, And I also think it's really
- 7:07Speaker 1: important to actually think about the Republicans strategy, and they
- 7:11Speaker 1: have a really good strategy, whether or not you agree
- 7:14Speaker 1: with it. We obviously do not lean that way. We're
- 7:17Speaker 1: very far left in the progressive lane. Um. But one
- 7:22Speaker 1: of the things when reading about the quote Latino latin
- 7:25Speaker 1: X vote is that the Republicans targeted or they knew
- 7:30Speaker 1: to outreach to evangelical Christians that were Latino and they
- 7:35Speaker 1: knew that. And I think that that's where the Democratic Party, uh,
- 7:39Speaker 1: the left wing party, really gets it wrong. You know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: not all Latinos are immigrants and left wing and you
- 7:47Speaker 1: know wants quote social services right. Um. And that's one
- 7:51Speaker 1: of the things that I've really been thinking about post election,
- 7:54Speaker 1: is how the Democratic Party really fails Latinos, and then
- 7:58Speaker 1: we're expected to just show up for them, for the
- 8:01Speaker 1: Democratic Party because you know, they have quote our best interests,
- 8:05Speaker 1: but they don't actually show up for us. And not
- 8:10Speaker 1: to be forgotten in these conversations, ever, is the reality
- 8:15Speaker 1: of democratic presidents and democratic like parties for decades now
- 8:26Speaker 1: having really awful impacts on our communities. And the conversation
- 8:31Speaker 1: always comes back to immigration, and well, who built the
- 8:33Speaker 1: cages to begin with that we're talking about today. Those
- 8:39Speaker 1: were not built under Donald Trump, not all of them.
- 8:42Speaker 1: You know that that was under democratic leadership. And so
- 8:46Speaker 1: there are ongoing um harms that have been done and
- 8:52Speaker 1: are being done by Democrats, and having Democrats in office
- 8:57Speaker 1: has never necessarily been like a symbol of freedom and
- 9:02Speaker 1: justice and hope for Latin X communities, like on multiple levels.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So it's very hard. But I also wanted to be
- 9:12Speaker 1: over because I want even just the most bare bones
- 9:15Speaker 1: practical presidential stuff to happen. I just want a lockdown,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I just want a stimulus check. I just want some
- 9:24Speaker 1: semblance of normalcy when it comes to like what a
- 9:30Speaker 1: relatively capable leader would do in the midst of a pandemic,
- 9:35Speaker 1: which we haven't seen our had this whole year and
- 10:01Speaker 1: m m um um um um um ummies of it
- 10:23Speaker 1: and ship get fifteen percent off of your purchases from
- 10:28Speaker 1: Latina owned makeup brand Viva Cosmetics. The holidays are coming
- 10:32Speaker 1: up and Viva has put out a beautiful collection of
- 10:38Speaker 1: lippies and highlighters and all kinds of beautiful makeup products.
- 10:42Speaker 1: So head to be Via Cosmetics dot com and use
- 10:44Speaker 1: our affiliate code look at Our Radio fifteen. We are
- 10:48Speaker 1: also huge advocates of therapy at look at Our Radio
- 10:51Speaker 1: and this podcast is sponsored by Better Help. If you're
- 10:54Speaker 1: struggling and seeking options for therapy, please go to try
- 10:57Speaker 1: better help dot com slush look at and received ten
- 11:01Speaker 1: percent off your first month. It's really cool because you
- 11:04Speaker 1: can access you have access to a license therapist really
- 11:07Speaker 1: from the palm of your hand, from your phone, anytime anywhere.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So if that's something that you're interested in, especially being
- 11:13Speaker 1: in a pandemic and being remote, you can try better
- 11:16Speaker 1: help dot com slash look at. So something that's been
- 11:20Speaker 1: coming up around conversations regarding the Latino vote. Item number
- 11:25Speaker 1: one to remove from the Latino tote is that by
- 11:31Speaker 1: demographic Latin X groups voted very differently, did not vote
- 11:37Speaker 1: as a monolith, which has been pointed out over and
- 11:40Speaker 1: over again forever. I feel like it's always around election
- 11:44Speaker 1: season that the national conversation spends like thirty seconds on
- 11:50Speaker 1: Cubans voting very right all the time and leaning right historically.
- 11:56Speaker 1: So this year that conversation came back around in major
- 12:00Speaker 1: ways and we were all like, oh my god, Florida, WTF.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And then we were all like, you know, sucking face palm.
- 12:07Speaker 1: The Cubans with the Republican asked voting, but they were
- 12:10Speaker 1: the only ones. They were not the only Latinos who voted.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Read and so there is this pole provided to us
- 12:22Speaker 1: by the American Election Eve pole on the National Latino
- 12:26Speaker 1: vote breakdown, you said, do you want to share some
- 12:28Speaker 1: of these numbers with our listeners because I find them fascinating. Absolutely,
- 12:33Speaker 1: So breaking it down by region, these aren't very specific.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Obviously South America is huge, but we see fifty eight
- 12:42Speaker 1: percent voted for Biden and voted for Trump. Sot of
- 12:48Speaker 1: South Americans in the US voted for Trump. For Central
- 12:52Speaker 1: Americans were attent for Biden and ent for Trump. For
- 12:59Speaker 1: Puerto Ricans, we have sevent for Biden and percent for Trump,
- 13:05Speaker 1: which is still really high. They're all really high. They're
- 13:08Speaker 1: all really high, honestly. Um, for Cubans, we have forty
- 13:13Speaker 1: percent for Biden, fifty two percent for Trump, and mexicanal's
- 13:19Speaker 1: Mexican Americans cheek Donald's percent for Biden and t for Trump.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So it's so interesting to see these numbers because, as
- 13:28Speaker 1: you pointed out, I mean, everybody had above percent at
- 13:34Speaker 1: least voting read and voting for Donald Trump across the board.
- 13:38Speaker 1: There's not a ton of specificity in this graph. You know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: there's folks asked like, where's the Dominican uh polls? Because
- 13:47Speaker 1: you know, Dominican Americans are significant enough demographic and voting
- 13:51Speaker 1: block that I think they could have had their own.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But yeah, everybody had a sizeable chunk of the voting folks,
- 13:59Speaker 1: at least of those polled right who voted red. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: so that's very telling. Absolutely. I mean, one of the
- 14:05Speaker 1: really fascinating things that I learned a couple of days
- 14:08Speaker 1: prior to election day what I listened to Lelo podcast
- 14:14Speaker 1: podcast and they interviewed folks in Florida and they interviewed
- 14:19Speaker 1: a Venezuelana and she was an undecided voter and This
- 14:22Speaker 1: was a couple of days before elections. She was undecided,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and she was saying that her entire family voted for
- 14:28Speaker 1: Trump because they were because Trump allegedly, I had never
- 14:33Speaker 1: actually have heard this. I've never seen this actually sourced. Allegedly,
- 14:38Speaker 1: Trump said that he would help Venezuela if he was elected.
- 14:42Speaker 1: And so this also goes into a much further conversation
- 14:47Speaker 1: about misinformation that is spread via Facebook, via What'sapp that's
- 14:52Speaker 1: owned by Facebook. For folks who don't know, What's App
- 14:55Speaker 1: is very prominent in the Latin American communities because it's
- 15:00Speaker 1: it's free, you don't you can have it on any
- 15:02Speaker 1: kind of phone, it's not specific to an iPhone or
- 15:04Speaker 1: a Samsung. You can download it. And so folks talk
- 15:07Speaker 1: to their family members in Latin America, in the US,
- 15:10Speaker 1: wherever through What's Up. And there's a lot of misinformation
- 15:13Speaker 1: spread that way. So I would not be surprised if
- 15:16Speaker 1: someone doctored a photo where it's set where Trump is
- 15:19Speaker 1: supposedly saying I'm gonna send aid to Venezuela if I'm
- 15:23Speaker 1: elected a second term, right, And so folks are also
- 15:27Speaker 1: thinking about their respective home countries, right, And so it's
- 15:31Speaker 1: really important to take those things into consideration, whether or
- 15:34Speaker 1: not you agree with them. I still think it's important
- 15:36Speaker 1: to know why, like why are Latinos showing up in
- 15:39Speaker 1: these ways for Trump? And that's what's so great about
- 15:44Speaker 1: any type of specific data that really breaks things down
- 15:49Speaker 1: into more recognizable parts than just the sort of bland
- 15:54Speaker 1: Latin X labeling, because if we look at, for example,
- 15:58Speaker 1: the folks that vote read more often than any other
- 16:02Speaker 1: Latin X group, Cubans, right, Cuban Americans, we can talk
- 16:05Speaker 1: about them specifically and their specific relationship to immigration, their
- 16:10Speaker 1: specific relationship to race and to economics, and the really
- 16:16Speaker 1: harsh reality that most Republican wealthy Cuban Americans are descendants
- 16:23Speaker 1: of slave owners, like quite literally, you know, um plantation
- 16:27Speaker 1: owners who absolutely did not want to participate in the
- 16:31Speaker 1: socialist redistribution of unjustly inherited wealth, you know, and then
- 16:37Speaker 1: fled Cuba and came to the United States. Like these
- 16:39Speaker 1: are where those interests are coming from. Vastly different than
- 16:44Speaker 1: I would say, most Central American voters, regardless of age,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know, um or how long they've been in the
- 16:53Speaker 1: United States, they're not. So I think something that we're
- 16:57Speaker 1: continuing to learn is that we need specificity, We need
- 17:01Speaker 1: like really deep knowledge of the specific folks and communities
- 17:06Speaker 1: we're talking about. The r g V came up a
- 17:08Speaker 1: lot too. The r g V vastly different voting interests
- 17:11Speaker 1: than Cubans in Florida, but still voting red um in
- 17:15Speaker 1: many instances. Yeah. Absolutely, thank you for bringing that up.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It's so true. And the specificity is really important because
- 17:23Speaker 1: that's how I think that moving forward of folks that
- 17:26Speaker 1: are running grassroots campaigns or just campaigns in general, like
- 17:30Speaker 1: they really need to know how to reach the quote,
- 17:32Speaker 1: how to get the Latino vote right and reach Latinos
- 17:35Speaker 1: like in legit in real ways, and that's really important
- 17:39Speaker 1: moving forward. It's not just playing fucking Bussito on your
- 17:42Speaker 1: phone and you know, thinking that all right, I got them. Absolutely,
- 17:48Speaker 1: that was so that just whatever the context was behind
- 17:52Speaker 1: that little clip of Joe Biden playing best Bussy Tho
- 17:55Speaker 1: off his phone and like smiling along and one man
- 17:58Speaker 1: in the crowd pegging him on it, telling him to dance,
- 18:01Speaker 1: like there was something going on there, somebody told him
- 18:04Speaker 1: to do it. But just the little clip itself, it
- 18:08Speaker 1: just speaks volumes and it doesn't come off right. It
- 18:11Speaker 1: doesn't look good. I feel like I feel the thing
- 18:15Speaker 1: here is that no one told him to do it,
- 18:17Speaker 1: is how I interpreted. I feel like he was just
- 18:19Speaker 1: trying to be like cool and cute. You know. Oh,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I know that's bassit though. That's how I interpreted. But
- 18:26Speaker 1: you know, I could be wrong. I don't know, but yeah,
- 18:29Speaker 1: you know, I don't really know what to think post
- 18:32Speaker 1: election in terms of the Latino vote. Um, are we
- 18:35Speaker 1: over it? I don't know. Should we be over it?
- 18:38Speaker 1: Maybe not? But I think we do need the specificity,
- 18:41Speaker 1: Like you're like, you're saying um because, like everyone says
- 18:46Speaker 1: every single time, we're not a monolith. And so you know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: playing um selena is not going to resonate in the
- 18:54Speaker 1: same way for you know, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans on
- 18:57Speaker 1: the East coast, right, it's not the same, aime, It's
- 19:00Speaker 1: not the same. And having real people from these communities
- 19:03Speaker 1: on these campaigns is I think what's going to make
- 19:05Speaker 1: a big difference. Yeah. And also just you know, I
- 19:10Speaker 1: would like to start seeing more voting breakdown just based
- 19:14Speaker 1: on class and income because I think, especially with regards
- 19:19Speaker 1: to Latin X voters and Latino voters, I think that
- 19:23Speaker 1: class plays a much bigger role than the polls, and
- 19:28Speaker 1: the pollsters have been necessarily acknowledging and um, there are
- 19:34Speaker 1: huge class disparities within the Latino electorate, and I think
- 19:38Speaker 1: that drives so much of um our voting choices. Also,
- 19:44Speaker 1: as we tend to hyper focus on religion, I feel
- 19:48Speaker 1: like folks hyper focus on the single issue religious voters,
- 19:51Speaker 1: and they forget Oh no, they're like literal Latin X millionaires,
- 19:55Speaker 1: Like can we talk about that? And how they're like
- 19:58Speaker 1: throwing everybody else under the bus for their tax breaks.
- 20:01Speaker 1: It's so true. I think that now, granted, there are
- 20:04Speaker 1: like really loud Latino for Trump supporters. I know that
- 20:07Speaker 1: they exist. I've seen the homies for Trump page. I've
- 20:10Speaker 1: seen Chingle Bling, whoa like huge shocked, well not I
- 20:15Speaker 1: don't know if shocked, but wow, Chinglebling very outright supporting Trump. Um,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I know, I know. UM, But I think that there's
- 20:24Speaker 1: also a lot of quiet Latino Trump supporters. And I've
- 20:27Speaker 1: said it before, and those are the ones that vote
- 20:29Speaker 1: because of their tax bracket and they vote read for
- 20:32Speaker 1: those reasons. I like have heard since you know, pre elections,
- 20:37Speaker 1: I heard from people, not my direct friends, with people
- 20:40Speaker 1: that I've been around that have made money that are
- 20:44Speaker 1: like new money Latinos right voting for Trump, But they
- 20:49Speaker 1: don't say it. You're never gonna see that on their
- 20:51Speaker 1: social media. You're never going to see them sharing a
- 20:53Speaker 1: pro Trump Facebook, you know post. But they're there, and
- 20:57Speaker 1: those are the ones we need to to talk to.
- 21:00Speaker 1: They're the ones in our families probably maybe yeah, yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 1: it's it's also it's just it's exhausting because I don't
- 21:11Speaker 1: know of any argument I can make at this stage
- 21:14Speaker 1: of the game, right, Like, if everything that has happened
- 21:18Speaker 1: thus far has not been enough to convince people not
- 21:23Speaker 1: to vote red, I literally don't know what it is. Right. Well,
- 21:28Speaker 1: I think, like I think that misinformation has a lot
- 21:31Speaker 1: to do with it, right, And I think that getting that,
- 21:34Speaker 1: going to the source of that and cutting that and um,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Twitter has enabled a lot of abuse. But I did
- 21:42Speaker 1: notice and they had said that they were going to
- 21:44Speaker 1: be flagging posts that were incorrect, right, that they were
- 21:47Speaker 1: factually incorrect, which what they what they were doing for
- 21:50Speaker 1: like all of Trump's tweets post election. Um. But I
- 21:54Speaker 1: think that there's some serious, serious responsibility that the social
- 21:59Speaker 1: media apps and so the heads of these networks need
- 22:03Speaker 1: to like take responsibility for you know, because that misinformation
- 22:07Speaker 1: is real and that's why you have people believing Trump
- 22:10Speaker 1: said he was gonna help Venezuela. You know, I've like
- 22:13Speaker 1: seen firsthand the misinformation that's this that is spread on
- 22:17Speaker 1: WhatsApp when I was in Bideu at the pre pre
- 22:20Speaker 1: lockdown in Biddeu and my demo was showing me what
- 22:23Speaker 1: was being shared on his WhatsApp groups and I was like,
- 22:26Speaker 1: that's wrong, like and I showed him like, this is wrong,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and I just did a quick google and it It's
- 22:31Speaker 1: unfortunate that that misinformation is spread, especially in the pandemic,
- 22:35Speaker 1: especially during an election season. Um, but yeah, the onus
- 22:38Speaker 1: needs to be on the folks creating the apps that
- 22:42Speaker 1: are running that that are running the apps. Literally, yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 1: they absolutely one control the flow of information. They just do.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Like nothing gets shared on these apps without like the
- 22:57Speaker 1: main frame supporting it. And there has to be ownership,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you know what I mean, accountability. And Zuckerberg has been
- 23:05Speaker 1: for I think what feels like years now, been like
- 23:08Speaker 1: in the hot seat and kind of just tossing his
- 23:11Speaker 1: hands in the air like well, you know, free market
- 23:15Speaker 1: concepts applied to social media and propaganda. I am sick
- 23:20Speaker 1: of their very like angel face dump struck. I'm just
- 23:24Speaker 1: a young white boy that it doesn't know better. I
- 23:26Speaker 1: don't know, I d k. I'm innocent. I'm a cherub.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Don't get mad at me. I just want everyone to
- 23:32Speaker 1: participate freely. I don't buy it. Shut up. I mean
- 23:36Speaker 1: if you just think about if you when you really
- 23:39Speaker 1: know that Facebook was started as a way to rate women.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I mean that tells you everything you need to know
- 23:45Speaker 1: about where these people stand when it comes to doing
- 23:49Speaker 1: anything morally correct. His bowl cut tells me everything that
- 23:54Speaker 1: I need to know about his ability to his little
- 23:59Speaker 1: wa uttery little frog eyes. I can sit here and
- 24:04Speaker 1: say like I hate him. I hate Mark Zuckerberg. Yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: we're gonna We're gonna go back to the Reptilian conspiracy.
- 24:13Speaker 1: They throw back to the beginning of twenty different Lighter Times.
- 24:18Speaker 1: It's like Mark Zuckerberg is singlehandedly contributing to the creation
- 24:22Speaker 1: of an environment so toxic that only reptilians can survive it. Girl, Yes,
- 24:29Speaker 1: you said a mouthful there. Yes, I think that's what's
- 24:33Speaker 1: happening here. Girl, so bad, I know, speaking speaking of um,
- 24:39Speaker 1: I want to I want I want to plug because
- 24:42Speaker 1: since the pandemic or I don't even know, maybe it
- 24:45Speaker 1: just a month ago. I don't even know the timeline anymore.
- 24:47Speaker 1: But I have been learning more about cyber security or
- 24:52Speaker 1: doing my best to learn about cybersecurity, and so I
- 24:55Speaker 1: wanted to plug. Cyber Collective Org it's woman immigrant owned
- 25:01Speaker 1: and they share all these like cybersecurity tips. So if
- 25:05Speaker 1: that's something that interests you, if you want to learn
- 25:07Speaker 1: how to make your social media you safer. Plug um
- 25:12Speaker 1: connecting to public wifis don't do that, is what I learned.
- 25:15Speaker 1: It's always connecting to Starbucks and coffee Bean. Don't be
- 25:18Speaker 1: doing that. Apparently, take your by your own hotspot. Yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 1: so head that way if that's something that you're interested in.
- 25:25Speaker 1: God the US is so just say yes. Can I
- 25:31Speaker 1: just say? There are places in the world, like in Mexico.
- 25:34Speaker 1: You can go to Mexico City and all the BLESSI
- 25:38Speaker 1: thousands stuff have public WiFi and in the parks and things,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and like in everyone everywhere else besides here, it's like
- 25:47Speaker 1: WiFi is just like a given, and here it's like,
- 25:50Speaker 1: oh no, your WiFi is gonna give your phone a disease.
- 25:56Speaker 1: It will ruin your life. Don't do it. Don't do it.
- 25:59Speaker 1: But it's a good resource. Thank you for sharing it. Yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 1: come bat, we're at the end of that. Hit me today,
- 26:11Speaker 1: like obviously I know we're in November, but I'm like,
- 26:14Speaker 1: oh my God, is literally here tomorrow. And that caused
- 26:18Speaker 1: a little bit of anxiety because we really have spent
- 26:21Speaker 1: the majority of the year in this limbo of kind
- 26:24Speaker 1: of on lockdown, kind of not really. People are still
- 26:27Speaker 1: objecting on wearing masks, people are still getting together, and
- 26:31Speaker 1: now we're at the holiday season and the bar is
- 26:34Speaker 1: so low that we just want a presidential leader to
- 26:39Speaker 1: be able to lead. Literally, that is it. Like I
- 26:41Speaker 1: don't expect, you know, President Biden to come in and like, Okay,
- 26:46Speaker 1: it's all over, everything is normal again. Absolutely not, And
- 26:49Speaker 1: I think to expect that is somewhat naive, But I
- 26:52Speaker 1: do expect some type of leadership, right that there will
- 26:56Speaker 1: be a policy implemented and a plan event it as well.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm I'm just you know, trying to write
- 27:05Speaker 1: out the rest of as safely as possible. Agreed, I
- 27:09Speaker 1: agree completely right out the year. Make it to next
- 27:12Speaker 1: year hopefully better off, right, better off next year than
- 27:19Speaker 1: we have been this year, and I think that having
- 27:23Speaker 1: a shift in leadership might at the very least boost
- 27:26Speaker 1: some morale, you know what I mean. UM, And I
- 27:30Speaker 1: think we'll take whatever wins we can get at this point.
- 27:34Speaker 1: But locally, we had a really big win with Measure J.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Measure J passed and that is um a piece of
- 27:43Speaker 1: legislation that promises a big chunk of money to go
- 27:47Speaker 1: into resources services for historically marginalized and under resourced communities
- 27:54Speaker 1: of color in l A. And um, it's money that
- 27:59Speaker 1: is guarantee ead like for for a lifetime, and the
- 28:02Speaker 1: city council like can't cut it or get rid of it. Uh.
- 28:06Speaker 1: We spoke with Fernandez, who was one of the basically
- 28:11Speaker 1: the architects of Measure J, who was really working on
- 28:14Speaker 1: it and pushing it and getting it on the ballot
- 28:16Speaker 1: and uh, really using the power of social media and
- 28:20Speaker 1: like local media outlets not unlike look at the Right
- 28:24Speaker 1: to get the word out. And the sheriffs put a
- 28:27Speaker 1: lot of money into fighting against Measure J, with a
- 28:30Speaker 1: lot of really like melodramatic like TV ads and things
- 28:34Speaker 1: showing like helicopters on fire, like all emergency services are
- 28:38Speaker 1: going to be destroyed, and just defunct forever um, but
- 28:42Speaker 1: it's still one even in spite of like you know,
- 28:45Speaker 1: big money from the sheriffs. So that's that was an
- 28:47Speaker 1: exciting local victory. Um. I was happy to see that happened. Yeah. Additionally,
- 28:52Speaker 1: a local victory for l A was District Attorney Gascon
- 28:59Speaker 1: being elected and Jackie Lacy is now out, and that
- 29:04Speaker 1: was a really big win and definitely all credit to
- 29:07Speaker 1: the Black Lives Matter movement and chapter that really put
- 29:11Speaker 1: pressure on gascone to hold l A p D accountable,
- 29:17Speaker 1: to hold police police officers accountable. And also that we're
- 29:21Speaker 1: protesting outside of Jackie Lacy's house for months, you know,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and we're at her office and we had their list
- 29:27Speaker 1: of demands. So that's definitely a big win for l
- 29:29Speaker 1: A as well. Yeah. Absolutely, And as far as Jackie
- 29:33Speaker 1: Lacy goes, you know, I also I am just let's
- 29:37Speaker 1: see what the new d A does, because the position
- 29:41Speaker 1: of d A itself is not like a position that
- 29:45Speaker 1: is designed with like the purposes of liberation and like
- 29:50Speaker 1: racial justice and mind. So we'll see what a new
- 29:52Speaker 1: person does in the office. But the office itself is
- 29:56Speaker 1: very tainted in this city, especially when it comes to
- 30:00Speaker 1: the lack of prosecution, the lack of prosecuting killer cops
- 30:07Speaker 1: and police officers, l apt officers who basically terrorize black
- 30:11Speaker 1: and brown and homeless people in l A and have
- 30:14Speaker 1: been doing so for years. Um. I mean, like you know,
- 30:17Speaker 1: Roddy King happened in l A. Like this is historically
- 30:21Speaker 1: a bad place as far as bringing justice against police. Absolutely,
- 30:27Speaker 1: I mean Georgia Gascon is a former police officer, like
- 30:30Speaker 1: he was a chief deputy I believe so, or chief
- 30:33Speaker 1: of police and so yeah, it goes without saying that.
- 30:37Speaker 1: There is definitely pause. People are not like super people
- 30:40Speaker 1: are excited in the sense that Jackie Lacy was voted out.
- 30:43Speaker 1: But people of course are gonna have I think, have
- 30:46Speaker 1: their guard up about Gascon and basically are going to
- 30:49Speaker 1: see if he's gonna walk the talk. Yes. My other
- 30:52Speaker 1: question with regards to elections is where is GARCETI gonna
- 30:55Speaker 1: be and when is he is he gonna Is he
- 30:59Speaker 1: gonna bounce and go join the Biden cabinet? And what's
- 31:03Speaker 1: that handover going to be like? And who does he
- 31:06Speaker 1: hand us over to and how does that happen? And
- 31:08Speaker 1: is it a good thing for us? Is it a
- 31:10Speaker 1: bad thing? For us because we're still in a pandemic
- 31:12Speaker 1: and everything is trash, Like it's just how is it
- 31:16Speaker 1: gonna work? I personally think he's gonna leave. I think
- 31:19Speaker 1: he's gonna leave, and I think that that could be
- 31:22Speaker 1: a good thing because he has really mishandled homelessness in
- 31:27Speaker 1: l A County and there's that, you know, But then
- 31:31Speaker 1: we're also in a pandemic and so it's like it's
- 31:34Speaker 1: part of it is like okay, cool, good riddance, Like
- 31:37Speaker 1: you didn't really lead l A. There were some good things,
- 31:40Speaker 1: there were some not you know, negative things, but then
- 31:43Speaker 1: also you're leaving in the middle of a pandemic and
- 31:48Speaker 1: what a mess. You're leaving a mess, leaving a humongous mess,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and like it's going to take so long to clean
- 31:56Speaker 1: it up. Like this is something that's gonna be going
- 31:58Speaker 1: to be recovering from this forever. Stress, uh stress, indeed stress.
- 32:08Speaker 1: So on a lighter note, something that we are so
- 32:11Speaker 1: excited and happy about is our new merch that we launched.
- 32:15Speaker 1: We shot a cute little promotional video, we shared it
- 32:19Speaker 1: with you all on Instagram and Twitter and such, and
- 32:23Speaker 1: we opened up our online store. Between our patrons and
- 32:27Speaker 1: our newsletter subscribers. We were basically sold out within a
- 32:31Speaker 1: few hours and it was really exciting. So we have
- 32:35Speaker 1: packaged up all of our merch and we're gonna be
- 32:37Speaker 1: shipping it out. Folks ordered Merge from all over the country.
- 32:41Speaker 1: There's going to be look at the on Merge. Were
- 32:43Speaker 1: in Kansas, in Florida, all over the place. So we're
- 32:47Speaker 1: super excited and we're gonna make pre sale merch available

- 34:37Speaker 1: amount of things. It's really important to us to empower

- 34:44Speaker 1: You know, we're tired of the gate keeping and the
- 34:46Speaker 1: only way to get through that is to create your
