- 0:13Speaker 1: of an isolated shower early tomorrow and highest seventy. And
- 0:16Speaker 1: for Wednesday, we love Wednesdays. Mostly sunny, a high of
- 0:20Speaker 1: seventy five. Currently it is fifty one. We have sunshine
- 0:23Speaker 1: here at thirteen ten wib A. Speaking of the sun,
- 0:25Speaker 1: let's head on up to beautiful sun Prairie and we
- 0:28Speaker 1: are joined by Rachel Kansenmeyer. She is with the Loop
- 0:33Speaker 1: Sun Prairie. Rachel, welcome to the program.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Hello, thanks for having me.
- 0:38Speaker 1: It's great to talk with you. And I had a
- 0:41Speaker 1: chance to check check out a little bit of information
- 0:43Speaker 1: about the Loop of course online the loopsp dot org
- 0:47Speaker 1: as the website the loopsp dot org for people that
- 0:51Speaker 1: don't know about the Loop. What is the Loop?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, So we are a five oh one C three
- 0:59Speaker 2: non community flex space, so in short, community center, So yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 2: we have basically we're just kind of creating a space
- 1:10Speaker 2: that's inclusive space, warm and welcoming for folks to come
- 1:13Speaker 2: together and just kind of yeah, be together.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's such a cool concept. And I see the word
- 1:21Speaker 1: flex space and I know, like and like the home
- 1:24Speaker 1: building world, they always talk about flex space, like like
- 1:28Speaker 1: areas of the house that can be used for multi purposes,
- 1:31Speaker 1: similar kind of thing here. You guys have space where
- 1:33Speaker 1: you can do whether it's concerts or like bridle showers
- 1:37Speaker 1: or like, is that kind of the concept here, Yes, yep, it's. Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 2: We our space is a little under I think a
- 1:43Speaker 2: thousand square feet, so it's an intimate space, but yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 2: it's designed it's basically one open room and it's designed
- 1:51Speaker 2: to be able to accommodate different events like you mentioned
- 1:55Speaker 2: bridle showers, baby showers, birthday parties, and then we also
- 2:02Speaker 2: have live music we've been hosting, We've done mini makers
- 2:07Speaker 2: markets where we have some farmer's markets that we're going
- 2:09Speaker 2: to be doing in November. So yeah, it's just kind
- 2:13Speaker 2: of a space we you know, we rented out for
- 2:15Speaker 2: private rentals, and then we also want to you know,
- 2:18Speaker 2: incorporate more community you know, public events like the live
- 2:24Speaker 2: music and the markets and stuff like that.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Well, that's fantastic talk this morning with Rachel Katzmeyer with
- 2:29Speaker 1: The Loop and Sun Prairie. Rachel, let's talk about the background.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What was kind of the impetus for this, and was
- 2:34Speaker 1: this kind of what's that void area that that the
- 2:37Speaker 1: Loop is filling.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so my husband and I my step son, he's nineteen,
- 2:43Speaker 2: so you know, when he was a you know, a teenager,
- 2:47Speaker 2: my husband and I noticed it was actually kind of
- 2:49Speaker 2: a lack of a space for him and his friends
- 2:52Speaker 2: to hang out. So it actually started with this kind
- 2:55Speaker 2: of idea of how can we provide a space for
- 2:59Speaker 2: teens or young adults, And from there it just kind
- 3:04Speaker 2: of grew into, well, let's not just focus on teens
- 3:07Speaker 2: or young adults, let's focus on everyone in the community.
- 3:10Speaker 2: We noticed there was a shortage of event venues, private rental,
- 3:16Speaker 2: you know, spaces, stuff like that, so we just kind of,
- 3:20Speaker 2: as we were, you know, coming up with kind of
- 3:23Speaker 2: the concept, it just kept growing and growing to include
- 3:26Speaker 2: more groups of people. And and yeah, it was just
- 3:30Speaker 2: kind of a creating a space where you know, people
- 3:34Speaker 2: could just kind of come and hang out, and we
- 3:36Speaker 2: don't really have those spaces anymore.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So yeah, and Rachel just thing. You mentioned that because
- 3:43Speaker 1: I've noticed there are a lot of communities some of
- 3:47Speaker 1: these just kind of you point out that you don't
- 3:49Speaker 1: really see these much anymore. You're starting to see some
- 3:52Speaker 1: folks saying, hey, there's there is this this space missing it.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I think it used to be, you know, back in
- 3:57Speaker 1: the day, whether it was whether there was church or
- 3:59Speaker 1: whether it was like a community organization. A lot of
- 4:02Speaker 1: those spaces have have gone away, and we forget about
- 4:06Speaker 1: the importance of having, you know, a useful area for
- 4:10Speaker 1: the community to get together, and whether it's an event
- 4:12Speaker 1: like a like an art show or you mentioned things
- 4:14Speaker 1: like the farmer's market or or something like that, having
- 4:17Speaker 1: a place for that is really really important. And I
- 4:21Speaker 1: had a chance to to check out your Facebook page
- 4:23Speaker 1: and sy and kind of get some you a look
- 4:25Speaker 1: as kind of what it looks like on the inside.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It is a really cool space. Can you tell us
- 4:29Speaker 1: a little bit about the building, of course you're at
- 4:32Speaker 1: two two East Main Street and some prairie, a little
- 4:35Speaker 1: bit of the history of the building and what was
- 4:37Speaker 1: there and how you guys converted into the space that
- 4:40Speaker 1: it is now.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so it actually, yeah, it's in the historic part
- 4:46Speaker 2: of Sun Prairie. So it's been there for a very
- 4:48Speaker 2: long time. It's been actually the kind of original drag
- 4:53Speaker 2: of downtown Sun Prairie, you know, back in the day.
- 4:57Speaker 2: So yeah, there's been so many different things there there
- 5:00Speaker 2: as a craft store, a toy store, a dry cleaners,
- 5:05Speaker 2: let's see what else there's It's it's been a lot.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But so basically, I, my friend and I we would
- 5:13Speaker 2: walk every morning after our kids would get on the
- 5:15Speaker 2: bus and go to school, and I would walk past
- 5:17Speaker 2: the space and I would just look in. The door
- 5:19Speaker 2: has this really cool nineteen sixties door, so it's just
- 5:24Speaker 2: really unique. But I would always like peek in and
- 5:27Speaker 2: just kind of be like, I want this space, Like
- 5:29Speaker 2: there's so much that could be done, you know. I
- 5:31Speaker 2: just like I had a vision with this space. And
- 5:35Speaker 2: so I ended up hunting the landlord down. He's a
- 5:37Speaker 2: very hard person to find, so I did, you know,
- 5:40Speaker 2: my detective work on the internet, and I ended up
- 5:44Speaker 2: actually catching him on his landline and I talked to
- 5:47Speaker 2: him for about forty five minutes and just kind of
- 5:49Speaker 2: told him my thoughts about creating this space and you know,
- 5:52Speaker 2: for the community, and how I want to we want
- 5:56Speaker 2: to really kind of liven up the downtown area again.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And you know, a lot of focus has been put
- 6:01Speaker 2: on the west side of some prairie, which is great,
- 6:03Speaker 2: but it seems like this historic downtown is kind of
- 6:07Speaker 2: being forgotten about. So you know, he he was kind
- 6:12Speaker 2: of like, I'm not sure I really want to rent it,
- 6:15Speaker 2: and I was like, okay. So then the next day
- 6:16Speaker 2: I called him back and I just you know, was like, hey,
- 6:20Speaker 2: can I just come in the space and feel the
- 6:22Speaker 2: energy and just kind of talk with you a little more.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And he was open to it, and by the end
- 6:27Speaker 2: of you know, me leaving that meeting, he had agreed
- 6:30Speaker 2: to give us a shot. So yeah, so it's pretty cool,
- 6:34Speaker 2: and you know, there was like so much I knew
- 6:38Speaker 2: there was a lot of beauty in the space, it
- 6:40Speaker 2: just kind of had to be freshened up of it.
- 6:42Speaker 2: So he actually let me come in take the plaster
- 6:45Speaker 2: off the wall, so there's the original brick beneath, so
- 6:50Speaker 2: we have, yeah, the exposed brick now, and I tore
- 6:53Speaker 2: down the old drop ceiling. We still have the drop ceiling,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but now it's white. So it just kind of gives
- 6:59Speaker 2: us this like new life. But it's everyone who comes
- 7:03Speaker 2: in this space, talks about the energy there and how
- 7:05Speaker 2: it makes them feel calm, and yeah, there's just something
- 7:10Speaker 2: about the space that it just has this like really calming,
- 7:16Speaker 2: nice feeling just to be in it. So it's it's
- 7:19Speaker 2: a special Yeah, it's a special place.
- 7:21Speaker 1: It looks absolutely amazing and folks can check it out
- 7:24Speaker 1: online the loop sp dot org. That's the loop sp
- 7:27Speaker 1: dot org. People are saying, we're exactly in sup Perri
- 7:30Speaker 1: the pizza joints right across the road. If I if
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'm visioning in envisioning it, am I thinking of the
- 7:35Speaker 1: right right intersection there right? That's uh selvy.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we're we're kind of like a kiddy corner from Salvators.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah or yeah, and there used to be a bead
- 7:45Speaker 2: shop right across the street too, So yeah, it's a
- 7:48Speaker 2: unique little space. It has kind of like a teal exterior.
- 7:53Speaker 2: We have the loop on our windows. We're working on getting.
- 7:56Speaker 2: We want to get like a nice big we have
- 7:58Speaker 2: there's like a wood board on top for perfect for
- 8:00Speaker 2: like a letter a reader board sign, So we're hoping
- 8:04Speaker 2: to get one of those so we can like kind
- 8:06Speaker 2: of put our events up there, and you know, we'd
- 8:09Speaker 2: like to eventually do like where people can submit something
- 8:12Speaker 2: that they want, like a phrase or something that they
- 8:14Speaker 2: want to have up for like a week. So then
- 8:16Speaker 2: you know, people could drive by and just see the
- 8:19Speaker 2: different things that we're doing. But yeah, that's that's further
- 8:23Speaker 2: down the road.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So sounds super cool and Rachel real quick. For people
- 8:27Speaker 1: that are interested, how do you go about bookings? And
- 8:29Speaker 1: and how would they start that conversation If somebody saying, hey,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I've got a band or I've got my you know,
- 8:35Speaker 1: my my uh uh me and me and my friends
- 8:38Speaker 1: are are artists, we want to do a maybe an
- 8:40Speaker 1: art show, do a gallery type thing. How how would
- 8:43Speaker 1: somebody get in contact with how how do the bookings
- 8:45Speaker 1: work for the Loop.
- 8:47Speaker 2: So basically they could go to our website, the Loop
- 8:49Speaker 2: sp dot org and then if you if they scroll down,
- 8:53Speaker 2: there's a contact us button. So basically just contact us
- 8:59Speaker 2: through our website and then it's usually me, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 2: behind the screen responding to people. So yeah, that's the
- 9:06Speaker 2: way to do it. Otherwise you can even you know,
- 9:08Speaker 2: message us through Facebook or Instagram, so whatever is easiest.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And then yeah, just kind of I'm open to all
- 9:17Speaker 2: ideas and we really just want to support. You know,
- 9:21Speaker 2: people's ideas and what they want to do, So don't
- 9:23Speaker 2: hesitate to reach out if you think it's a silly idea.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Chances are we're going to love it. So yeah, just
- 9:30Speaker 2: go to our website and that's the that's a good
- 9:32Speaker 2: way to do it.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I also have upcoming events on the website as well. Again,
- 9:36Speaker 1: that website, the Loop l oop the loop sp dot org.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's the Loop sp dot org. Rachel, thank you so
- 9:44Speaker 1: much for your time, thank you for the cool work
- 9:45Speaker 1: that you're doing in sub Prairie and look forward to
- 9:47Speaker 1: continued success and talking with you very soon.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome, thank you for having me in.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Take care and that's Rachel Katzmeyer. She is with the
- 9:55Speaker 1: Loop and sub Prairie again. That website the Loop sp
