- 0:41The f A. Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. I'm gonna just
- 1:03finish up today with Father Spirago's writings on the Rosary. You know, last
- 1:08week we talked specifically about the Hell Mary, what he said about the ave
- 1:14and did the Rosary is such a powerful prayer, and with the wars going
- 1:19on, you know, I've already explained to you we need to be praying
- 1:23the Rosary as was some mother asked at Fatima for world peace. So we'll
- 1:27get into that, but we'll start, as usual with a couple of questions
- 1:34and answers from radio replies. Now you may remember they're speaking with someone who's
- 1:41questioning the Christian faith, and they say the person asks or states, I
- 1:47guess I am glad my religion rests upon its own intrinsic good, not upon
- 1:53foolish miracles, to which the priest replied, whence came your religion? Did
- 1:59you invent for your And are you sure that because it is pleasing to you,
- 2:05it is therefore pleasing to God? Did he tell you so? And
- 2:08how can you say you are glad that your religion ignores facts? That does
- 2:13not seem to be an intrinsically good position? Remember also that revelation given by
- 2:19God is not only guaranteed by miracles, but really does rest also upon the
- 2:24firm foundation of its own intrinsic good. Your religion, including the denial of
- 2:30facts, does not. And you know, many people make religions today of
- 2:37essentially their politics. Liberals especially will deny all the teachings of the Catholic Church
- 2:46that they don't like, or of Christianity in general that they don't like,
- 2:50and justify it that they're a good person, they're kind, they're inclusive.
- 2:57Actually there are anything, but it's not to fail to warn somebody walking blindly
- 3:04off a cliff. It's not kind to say that homosexuality or abortion or divorce
- 3:09is right. It's not kind to turn a blind eye to things that will
- 3:15lead to the disruption of people's souls. And as far as being inclusive,
- 3:20there anything, but they contemn everybody who thinks otherwise than they do. There
- 3:24is no one more intolerant and exclusive than a so called open minded liberal.
- 3:35The person goes on, why did God perform incomprehensible miracles for the Jews before
- 3:42they before the period known as historical The answer men cannot be expected to believe
- 3:47in a doctrine of God, unless they have manifest signs that God is really
- 3:52speaking. But what do you mean by incomprehensible? If you mean that we
- 3:57cannot believe that they occurred, then the whole of historic science is useless.
- 4:01If you mean that they really happened, but no man can comprehend the laws
- 4:05accounting for them, you are right. A miracle is a fact that occurs
- 4:11in a naturally incomprehensible way. If we could fully account for it apart from
- 4:15God, it would be because we could account for it by ordinary laws of
- 4:19nature, and then it would not be a miracle. Finally, if God
- 4:23performed miracles before a period known as historical, we would know nothing of them.
- 4:29We know of them through history. And you know, as I mentioned
- 4:32last week and just referenced a while ago, one of the greatest miracles of
- 4:36the last hundred years or so, well, a little bit more than that,
- 4:40I guess it was nineteen seventeen, were the miracles at Fatima. And
- 4:44as far as being historical, the miracle of the sun, for instance,
- 4:47was witness and recorded by what do you call meteorologists astronomists, I guess people
- 4:57studying astrological event astronomers, there's the word astronomers and scientists in many countries,
- 5:08you know, far away from Fatima, and even by Soviets Soviet scientists,
- 5:15and those were then suppressed. So miracles do happen in our modern time.
- 5:20I mean, there have been many instances, several instances in which the priests
- 5:24has held up the hosts, the bread and the eucharists and it's turned into
- 5:29bleeding flesh. These are miracles that if people saw them, they would have
- 5:35to acknowledge the existence of God and his Holy Catholic Church. But as in
- 5:41the case of Fatima, the Masonic Order did everything it could suppress that information
- 5:46from getting into national news papers and news services. In case of these the
- 5:53eucharistic miracles, they have often happened in communist atheist governments, countries run by
- 6:00communists atheist governments, and they've done everything they can to suppress it. And
- 6:03then again you also just have a liberal, secular news media that has no
- 6:09interest in showing the miracles that are happening today. I mean you would think,
- 6:15I mean, someone would be done at Lords documenting all the miracles of
- 6:19healing, But I mean Lords has been around for what a couple hundred years
- 6:24now, and it's like old news. People just either believe it or not
- 6:27and take it for granted. If they do believe it honestly, if the
- 6:33press, if the media did their job in reporting the miracles that happen with
- 6:42some frequency. I mean, like you know, just recently, the nun
- 6:46her name escapes me right now, but you know her body didn't is totally
- 6:51preserved, didn't decompose after she died. You think Protestants are getting that,
- 6:56you see things, think people are seeing that on the six o'clock news,
- 6:59Secular seeing it. If the miracles that happen with regularity frequency, I mean,
- 7:06maybe not every day. I mean, it wouldn't be a miracle if
- 7:09it happened all the time, but at least a few at each person's life
- 7:15time. There are serious miracles that you could document. And if that was
- 7:18actually shown, you know on the six o'clock news, if people even watch
- 7:23that anymore, put on the front pages of the newspapers, you see millions
- 7:28of people convert to Catholicism. And that's the very reason they suppress it.
- 7:33Person says, must I believe in miracles? Record in the Gospels, believe
- 7:40a thing which cannot be substantiated in order to be saved. They answer,
- 7:45you are not asked to believe anything which cannot be substantiated in order to be
- 7:48saved by what rule of evidence? Then? Can miracles of the Gospel be
- 7:53substantiated by sworn affi David or in other words aff a David I should say,
- 7:59or in other words words, by written declaration on oath. If in
- 8:03a modern court I offered documentary evidence given by my friend Jones, the court
- 8:07would wish to be satisfied concerning five things. One did Jones write this statement
- 8:13or is it forgery? Two? Is it just as Jones wrote it?
- 8:16Or has it been altered or tampered with by interested parties? Three? Did
- 8:22Jones have reliable knowledge or could he have been misinformed? Four? Granted his
- 8:26knowledge was granted his knowledge? Was he telling the truth or lying? Five?
- 8:33Does he make this statement under oath before God? Now? When I
- 8:35offer the Gospels as documentary evidence, I am prepared to prove that the assigned
- 8:41authors wrote the books, that the books have not been tampered with, that
- 8:45the writers had first hand knowledge, that they did not lie, and that
- 8:48they gave their testimony under oath before God, so we'll continue on that theme
- 8:56tomorrow. Now let's finish up with Father Spirago. As I've said, this
- 9:03comes from exhaustive explanation of the Catechism written in the Well somewhere around the eighteen
- 9:11nineties, and it's a really classic book. It's over seven hundred pages long,
- 9:15which is why most people never read it. But I think certainly there's
- 9:20great benefit in spending some time reading. I've been reading it two pages a
- 9:26day since last August and I'm almost finished. I'm on page seven hundred and
- 9:33five or so, and I have learned a lot, a whole lot.
- 9:41There's a lot, you know. The modern Catechism is wonderful. It really
- 9:46is. Yeah, I mean, it's a great church document. It's when
- 9:48I go to, you know, my first thing I grab when someone asked
- 9:52me about a Catholic doctrine or a moral issue. And it's so well documented,
- 9:58so source, so logical. But honestly, I'm not going to say
- 10:11that Father Spirago's exhaustive explanation of the Catechism is better, but in many ways
- 10:16it actually is. It's more enjoyable to read. He gives a lot of
- 10:22historical depth, a lot of quotes from Saints. It's less textbook like in
- 10:30nature, it's more conversational. And I really do think everyone who receives any
- 10:37kind of Catholic education, whether you know, formally or informally, would be
- 10:45well served by having this book as one of the texts you know, that
- 10:50they're taught from that they have to read. We are not. I I
- 10:52hate to say have to read, because I was the kind of kid if
- 10:56you told me I had to read it, I didn't want to read it.
- 10:58But this is actually enjoyable to read. Now. Father Spiago says of
- 11:03the Rosary, was the suppliant suppliant? I guess it's suppliant. I've never
- 11:09heard that word actually spoken aloud. S U P P l I n T.
- 11:15That is a you know, a person who was making supplicant prayer.
- 11:20You know, the supplant, suppliant suppliant who prays fervently, is wont to
- 11:26repeat over and over again the words that come from the depth of his heart.
- 11:31Our Lord did this on Mount Olivet. David in the Psalm Psalm I
- 11:37can't remember which song that is anyway, exclaims no less than twenty seven times
- 11:41his mercy endureth forever you know, it's one of the big criticisms Protestants have
- 11:48of the Rosary, that is repetitive. And you know Jesus warn against repetitive
- 11:54prayer. Well, we're also told that the angels I am before the throat
- 12:00of God, saying Holy, Holy, Holy, over and over and over.
- 12:03If you know to God one day as a thousand years, and a
- 12:07thousand years is one day, imagine how often he hears the Our Father being
- 12:13prayed in Catholic and Protestant churches alike. And if you if one day this
- 12:20is a thousand days, and a thousand days is a thousand years is one
- 12:24year one day, I get my tongue twisted. If you just said the
- 12:30Our Father on a weekly basis, you've actually repeated that prayer fifty two times
- 12:35in a year, you know, So you really do have to put the
- 12:41warning against repetitive prayer in context. And as Father's Sparaga points out, David
- 12:50said twenty seven times in one psalm his mercy endureth forever. St. Francis
- 12:56of ASSISI spent whole nights repeating my Lord, my God in my all The
- 13:01devout servants of Mary used to address her frequently in the words of the Archangel,
- 13:05adding one ave maria to another as one places roses in a wreath.
- 13:11The Rosary is a prayer in which the Our Father, followed by ten hell
- 13:15marys, is repeated five or fifteen times, accompanied by meditation of the life,
- 13:20the Passion, and the exhultation of the Redeemer. We begin the Rosary
- 13:24with a creed and three hell maryes for the increase within us of the three
- 13:30theological virtues. While reciting the Rosary, everyone must hold his own rosary in
- 13:35his hand and touch the beads as he prays. But if several persons join
- 13:39in saying it, it is only necessary for one to hold the rosary and
- 13:43the others. Is only one person to necessary to hold the Rosary. In
- 13:48order thereby to regulate the number of prayers. The Rosary is divided, and
- 13:52the joyful, the sorrowful, and the glorious mysteries. In the first we
- 13:54honor God, the Father who sent us the Savior. In the second,
- 13:58God the Son who redeemed it. To the third God the Holy Ghost,
- 14:01who sanctifizes. And of course now we have the luminous mysteries as well.
- 14:07And you can pray the Rosary without rosary beats. By the way, there's
- 14:11no actual rule that you have to hold a rosary. You can count it
- 14:15on your fingers if need be. It's better to say the prayer even if
- 14:20you don't say it ideally, then not to say it at all. You
- 14:22know, everybody's going to get distracted, and this is something distractions should certainly
- 14:31be avoided in prayer. But I believe with Saint Jose Maria Scriva who said
- 14:39that don't let that dissuade you from saying your prayers, even if you're tired
- 14:48and you say them imperfectly or you're distracted. He said that you start out
- 14:52by saying the our Father, and you're addressing God the father as his child.
- 14:58And he said, you know what, father is going to be upset
- 15:03or offended if his small child is trying to recite something and gets distracted and
- 15:09has to keep, you know, coming back to it, or makes mistakes
- 15:11along the way. He's gonna be proud of the effort. He's going to
- 15:16be grateful, full of love for the effort that the child makes. And
- 15:22I thought it was I mean, Santa Screeba was a pretty tough good I
- 15:28mean, he was not a uh, you know, go along, get
- 15:33along, touchy feely kind of you know, make excuses for people type of
- 15:39priest or. Saint. Uh. He was really strict and stern in a
- 15:45lot of ways, and he was very vocal. He was known for really
- 15:48calling people out and uh, you know, being kind of tough on him
- 15:52and one of my favorite saints. Actually I love his books. But anyway,
- 15:58for him to say that, for you know, one of the most
- 16:00stern of priests to say that really impressed me. Really made it a difference
- 16:08actually in my prayer life, because my mind wanders. I try my best
- 16:12to concentrate, but I can easily have two things going in my head at
- 16:18one time. I think most people can, some more so than others.
- 16:25The rosary owes its origin to Saint Dominic. The Hermits of the first centuries,
- 16:30who could not read the psalter, used to receave one Our Father and
- 16:33one hill Mary in place of every psalm, and in order to note the
- 16:37number they said, they made use of small stones or seeds strung on a
- 16:41chord. Saint Dominic was the first who made the custom general of substituting one
- 16:47hundred and fifty hill Mary's for the one hundred and fifty psalms. Hence the
- 16:51rosary used to be called the psalter of Mary. Salter means collection of psalms.
- 16:56Basically, when about the year twelve hundred, the heresies of the Albigencies
- 17:06wrought great mischief in the south of France and north of Italy, Saint Dominic
- 17:10was commissioned by the Pope to preach in refutation of the erroneous tenants. His
- 17:15efforts availed little, and he besought the aid of the Mother of God.
- 17:19She appeared to him and bade him make use of the rosary as a weapon
- 17:23against her enemies. He accordingly introduced it everywhere, and before long it had
- 17:29affected the conversion of more than one hundred thousand heretics. So you think we
- 17:34don't need that today, you know, I mean, walk around and take
- 17:38a walk every day, walk your dog, pray the rosaries. You walk
- 17:41around the neighborhood, and pray for the conversion of all the people in all
- 17:45those houses who you know or lapse Catholics or don't go to church at all,
- 17:51or Protestants, or of another religion, or have no religion. The
- 17:56use of the rosary soon spread throughout Christendom, and it became a most popular
- 18:00devotion. It is a method of prayer at wants, simple and sublime.
- 18:04The prayers are so easy that a child can repeat them, and the mysteries
- 18:07are so profound that they supply a subject from meditation to the most learned theologians.
- 18:15It is a prayer of contemplation as well as a prayer of supplication,
- 18:18for it places before the mind the principal prayer, the principal truth of the
- 18:23faith. The Rosary is a compendium on the Gospel, a complete and practical
- 18:29manual of instruction, wherein the chief points of Christian doctrine are presented under the
- 18:33guise of prayer. By meditation on the events from our Lord's life, faith
- 18:37and charity are increased, and from the example of our divine Redeemer we learn
- 18:44to be humble, gentle, obedient. We are incited to imitate the virtues
- 18:48which the mysteries teached, to strive after what they promise us. Moreover,
- 18:52the union of vocal and mental prayer makes the Rosary easy, pleasant, and
- 18:57profitable as a method prayers unrivaled. The longer and more devoutly it is practiced,
- 19:03the more one appreciates its excellence and becomes convinced of its supernatural origin.
- 19:07I absolutely agree with that statement. Praying the Rosary daily has made a huge
- 19:12difference in my life. Huge. Okay, you honestly probably wouldn't recognize me
- 19:19as the person I am today as compared to about three years ago. And
- 19:23that's a very good thing. And I've also found that whenever one is experiencing
- 19:30any kind of grief, whether death of a loved one, relationship troubles,
- 19:37you know, get dumped, or whatever, praying the Rosary is the very
- 19:40best thing for the sadness to be comforted. It's fantastic, actually, he
- 19:48says. The Rosary is well pleasing to God because of its humility and because
- 19:52of it because it is an imitation of the unceasing song of praise sung by
- 19:57the angels. Rosary is the prayer of the humble, for in it well
- 20:02known truths are simply stated and constantly repeated. The proud despise it, but
- 20:07God, who looks down on low things, approves of it. It is
- 20:12an imitation of the angels song. We read in Holy Scripture that angelic choirs
- 20:18cry to one another, Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of Hosts,
- 20:22all the earth is full of his glory. It's from Isaiah. And
- 20:27when we recite the Rosary, we praise the Mother of God in a similar
- 20:30manner. And is beyond a doubt that this form of prayer is most acceptable
- 20:34to the Mother of God, for when she appeared at Lord, she had
- 20:37a rosary in her hand. But Pious the Ninth unhesitatingly asserts that it is
- 20:42her gift to men, and that she loves no other prayer as well.
- 20:48The Rosary is a most useful devotion, for by it we obtain great graces
- 20:52and sure help in time of trouble. Many indulgences are besides attached to it
- 21:00is a very treasury of graces. Many sinners owe their conversion to it.
- 21:04It possesses marvelous power to banish sin and restore to the transgressor to a state
- 21:10of grace. By it the just growing virtue. All the saints who have
- 21:14lived subsequently to the institution of the Rosary have been assiduous in its use,
- 21:18and this may have contributed largely to their sanctification. Several holy bishops and servants
- 21:26of God are known to have pledged themselves by vow to recite it daily.
- 21:30Saint Charles Borromeo, despite the numerous pressing duties of his position, recited it
- 21:34every day with the seminarians, for seminarists and the members of his household.
- 21:41Blessed Clement Hofbauer was accustomed to say the Rosary while passing through the streets of
- 21:48Vienna, and rarely did he recite it in vain for the conversion of a
- 21:52sinner. It is recorded that several distinguished officers and victorious commanders that they never
- 21:59gain aged in battle without first saying the Rosary, and to this they attributed
- 22:04their military success. The Rosary has been called the thermometer of Christianity for the
- 22:10reason that where it is diligently recited, faith is ardent and good works are
- 22:15manifest, and where it is neglected, religion is at a low ebb.
- 22:22Definitely being neglected. In our country right now, in seasons of general calamity,
- 22:26miraculous aid has been granted to Christendom by means of the Rosary. This
- 22:32was especially the case in the wars with the Turks, the victory at Leponto,
- 22:36which we discussed last week, the deliverance of Vienna, the victory of
- 22:40Belgrade. We're all owing to the power of the Rosary. We need to
- 22:45be praying the Rosary for peace right now, for world War three breaks out.
- 22:51To say it, to devastate it. As understatedly as I can.
- 22:56I mean, you should be screaming from the rooftops pray the Rosary for peace
- 23:00because we're facing potential World War three nuclear war. Okay, and regardless,
- 23:07I mean, what happened in Israel about a week ago, what was happening
- 23:10in Ukraine. These are horror, horrific events. Anything we can do,
- 23:15and if it's something as simple as praying for fifteen minutes a day, I
- 23:18mean, what less could you do? Me? But what would have more
- 23:22of an impact? Nothing? Nothing would have more of an impact. It
- 23:27was said that the beads of the chaplet did more execution than the bullets of
- 23:32his soldiers. Well, it was in thanksgiving for these victories at the Holy
- 23:37See Institute the Feasts of the Holy Rosary, which we just celebrated last week
- 23:40on the first Sunday of October. I guess it was last week. Could
- 23:42have been a little bit more than that. Now, Pope six Is the
- 23:45Fourth declared that many dangers which threaten the world or are averted and the wrath
- 23:51of God is appeased by the prayers of the Rosary. Our holy Father Leo
- 23:56the thirteenth says, as in Saint Dominic's time, reproved a sure remedy for
- 24:00the evils of the age, So it may now affect much toward the amelioration
- 24:06of the eels that afflict society. Everyone who recites the Rosary must feel its
- 24:11supernatural power. There is no prayer which affords more consolation in affliction, more
- 24:17tranquility to the troubled breasts. I will tell you that when I was considering
- 24:22converting through Thoicism more than twenty years ago now, I began planning the Rosary,
- 24:29and one night I was just kneeling by my bed praying the Rosary,
- 24:36and this kind of wave of heat went over me. I began shaking.
- 24:41I kind of had some visions and I could feel, basically, I would
- 24:51say, an evil that had partial possession of me being removed. It was
- 25:00incredible, and from that point on the a lot of the anger and depression
- 25:11that had affected me in my youth was gone. I mean, you know,
- 25:18I had sort of a troubled childhood and I was pretty self destructive there
- 25:25for a while and something had old of me, And I think if people
- 25:30prayed the Rosary, it would do a great deal to help with anxiety,
- 25:34depression, anger, suicide, et cetera. So it's another there's something I
- 25:44can personally attest to. I've told my priest at the time, and he's
- 25:48like, you know, this stuff happens, Like okay, welcome to the
- 25:52Catholic Church, where you know miracles happen every day. Anyway, there is
- 26:00no prayer which affords more consolation, affliction, more tranquility to the troubled breast.
- 26:06It sues in sorrow. It imparts the peace spoken of in the Gospel.
- 26:11Another proof of its excellence is the hatred and contempt, where with unbelievers
- 26:15regard it very true. Protestants hate the Rosary, Liberals hate the Rosary,
- 26:25Secularist atheists. I mean they see you pray in the Rosary and it's just
- 26:30like well, you know, water on the witch and the Wizard of Oz.
- 26:37You know. Anyway, eye, he says, the devil incites them
- 26:41to to cry fruit. What is a fruitful source of grace to the Christian
- 26:45and by which souls are wrested from his grasp? The Rosary has been richly
- 26:51indulgenced by the Holy See, and the recital of it, strongly urged upon
- 26:56the faithful, and indulgence of one hundred days may be gained for every potter
- 27:00and ave, every our father and every hell Mary. Okay, and you
- 27:07know we don't talk a lot about indulgences anymore. They haven't gone away.
- 27:11An indulgence essentially simply saying, in order, you know, to do penance
- 27:18right, you would have in old times when you went to confession and you
- 27:22can confess your sins, the priest would probably give you a much harder penance
- 27:26than he does today. You may even have to take a pilgrimage, but
- 27:30he would say, spend so many days fasting, or so many days,
- 27:34you know, doing these good works to make up for what you've done wrong.
- 27:38An indulgence is a prayer to which that penance is attached. Right,
- 27:45so this prayer is worth one hundred days of print penance or three hundred days
- 27:51of penance. Well, for every our father and hell Mary, an indulgence
- 27:57of one hundred days maybe gain. Now we don't say things in terms of
- 28:02days anymore because it just confused people. People thought, well, that's the
- 28:07equivalent to how many days of it's been in purgatory or whatever. Now that
- 28:11wasn't you know, it's not the way it works. But understand that that's
- 28:18why we don't get such tough penances anymore, because these prayers are the equivalent
- 28:23of that many days of penance. And that's could a lot of us could
- 28:30not do the penances that were common in the Middle Ages, for instance,
- 28:33eating nothing but bread and water for a month or a year. You know,
- 28:40pilgrimage is to Jerusalem building churches. I mean, these were really tough
- 28:48penances. And you know it's said or I think Father's Varago actually explained.
- 28:55You know, this was humanity coming out of paganism and they needed those tough
- 29:00penances as discipline. Now we have all these graces and gifts of all these
- 29:06incredible prayers given to us by the blessed Virgin Mary in many cases and other
- 29:11times, you know, by Jesus himself. I mean, it's we're very
- 29:17privileged, even though all things considered, I'd much rather live in the Middle
- 29:22Ages because you know, I'm an agrarium type of guy. I don't go
- 29:25in for a lot of technology and sci fi and all that kind of junk.
- 29:30Sorry y'all. Probably some sci fi geeks just got offended. But I
- 29:36couldn't care less about that stuff. I don't care about aliens, and I
- 29:37don't care about computers. I just use it to make a living in another
- 29:44time. Well, actually, you know, my ancestors include people like Saint
- 29:51Edward the Confessor and King Richard Lonheart. So I probably would have been pretty
- 29:53well off back then. But I would have been very happy, honestly,
- 29:59just to a little farm, just just to be a peasant, if I
- 30:02had enough to get by and provide for my family, because I like to
- 30:04garden and farm, I like to hunt and fish, and you know,
- 30:10so I you know, I can go weeks at a time without electricity.
- 30:14It doesn't bother me or phase me very much at all. I grew up
- 30:17that way. I mean, hurricane and knock something out, and ice storm
- 30:19and knock something out. You live in a rural area, and they turn
- 30:22the electricity back on for three or four weeks. So I'm very comfortable with
- 30:27primitive conditions. But still I have to admit what incredible grace it is to
- 30:34have these indulgence prayers. I memorize, I try to memorize one a week.
- 30:38Seriously, I'm an indulgenced prayer usually well older prayers. You know,
- 30:47I'm going back to like Father Sparaga's era or you know, Pious the Tents
- 30:52era and before things changed. And if the prayer says three hundred days,
- 30:57some of them say seven years indulgence hatched this prayer. You know, I'm
- 31:00going to rememborize that prayer because it's pretty big. That's one that was obviously
- 31:07very highly regarded by the Pope at the time. So anyway, okay,
- 31:14so let's go back to that indulgence of one hundred days may be gained for
- 31:17every potter and ave our Father and Hell Mary, if five consecutive decades be
- 31:22said on a properly indulgenous roastary, you got to have your rosary blessed by
- 31:27a priest. Okay, our Holy Father Leo the thirteenth. I think that's
- 31:33who the Pope was when Father Sparger was writing this. I believe that'd be
- 31:37the case. Has decreed that every day during the month of October, this
- 31:41month, the month of the Holy Rosary, together with the Litany of Loretto,
- 31:45be said in church, either during the parish mass or in the afternoon
- 31:51with the blessed sacrament exposed. For every time of assisting at this devotion,
- 31:55seven years and seven quarantines are granted. That's that's other language we don't use
- 32:00anymore. Your catechism will explain that still means the same, but we just
- 32:07don't put it in terms of years and days anymore because it confused people.
- 32:10That That's basically all it comes down to. Protestants are incredibly confused about indulgences,
- 32:15by the way. They think they know what it is. They have
- 32:19no clue. They don't even know what an indulgence is. They just know
- 32:22that Protestantism hates indulgences. Well, God gave his church the power to bind
- 32:28and loose. God gave his pope and bishops and priests the ability to act
- 32:35in his stead and say, Okay, your sin is absolved. Now in
- 32:38order to make up for it, goes do this penance. They don't like
- 32:43that. They don't believe that. They don't believe God gave priests the power
- 32:45to forgive sins, even though he said Jesus says specifically in the Gospel John
- 32:52who sends you, Who's who sends you? Forgive? They are forgiven who
- 32:58sends you retain they are tain. He literally gave them the apostles his authority,
- 33:05because it says who but God can forgive sins? Well, God gave
- 33:08that authority to his apostles, and they gave their authority to their successors.
- 33:14No Protestant, no other church has an ability that authority. And it's wonderful.
- 33:20I mean, it's one of the greatest reasons to be Catholic. Let
- 33:24me see, Pope Pious the Ninth bequeathed as a legacy to the faithful,
- 33:29this admonition. Let the Rosary, this simple, beautiful method of prayer,
- 33:34enriched with many indulgences, be habitually recited of an evening in every household.
- 33:39These are my last words to you. The memorial I leave behind me Again
- 33:44he said, if the whole, in the whole of the Vatican, Vatican,
- 33:49there is no greater treasure than the Rosary. And since he mentioned the
- 33:53whitley of Loretto, it's very brief. I'll just go ahead and tell you
- 33:58what that is, because I didn't know what it was until I read this
- 34:01book. Me and a Catholic now from his twenty years, no one ever
- 34:05told me what the litany of Loretto was it was just something I heard every
- 34:07now and then. Well. The Litany of Loretto is a form of prayer
- 34:13in which the most glorious titles are given to the Mother of God, and
- 34:15her intercession is unceasingly implored. The Litany of Loretto takes its origin and its
- 34:22name from the place of pilgrimage in Italy, Loretto, where the Holy House
- 34:27of Nazareth now stands. That this is actually the house Jesus grew up in,
- 34:30and it was actually brought there by angels. Now there's a miracle that
- 34:35if Protestants knew about, they couldn't be Protestant anymore. That's actually mind blowing.
- 34:40Angels took the House of Jesus from Bethlehem to several places before Loretto.
- 34:49Fascinating, and that's I mean, wow, how can you deny miracles if
- 34:55you realize that a two thousand year old house was transported to Italy from Nazareth
- 35:01by angels. In this litany, first of all, God is called upon
- 35:07for mercy, as in the Curie Alison that you know, Lord, have
- 35:10mercy, Christ have mercy, yeah, the mess. This is followed by
- 35:15the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity. Then the blessed Mother of God is
- 35:20invoked and her intercessions with sought. These invocations may be divided into six groups.
- 35:24The first three invocations express her special prerogatives, her sanctity, her divine
- 35:30maternity, her immaculate virginity. Two, her perfections as mother are enumerated Mother
- 35:36of Christ. Three she is extolled in virtue of her virginity, virgin,
- 35:39most prudent, et cetera. Four. Her glories are then depicted under a
- 35:44number of figures and types mirror of justice, et cetera. Five. Mary
- 35:50is next shown in her relation to the Church militant, health of the sick,
- 35:53et cetera. Church militant is us, We're the living Church. And
- 35:59finally her relation to the Church triumphant that's the Church in Heaven, Queen of
- 36:02Angels, etc. At the conclusion of the litany, confiding in the meditation
- 36:07of our advocate, we appeal to her divine son, beseeching him to spare,
- 36:12to hear, to have mercy on us. Several of the invocations have
- 36:15been added by the Holy See in the course of the centuries. For instance,
- 36:19help of Christians after the victory over the Turks, Queen conceded without original
- 36:23sin after the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception and the custom of
- 36:28reciting the Rosary and public. Oh, and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary,
- 36:31on the introduction of the custom of reciting the Rosary and public during the
- 36:36month of October, get out there, say your Rosary and public. If
- 36:40your parish isn't doing that, call the priest and remind him. We're supposed
- 36:45to pray the Rosary and public during the month of October. An indulgence of
- 36:50three hundred days may be gained for each recital of this litany, this slidey,
- 36:55the loretta takes me five minutes to pray. Well longer if you get
- 36:59a met of course, you can meditate on it from a fifteen minutes.
- 37:04That's an indulgence of three hundred days. That's the equivalents of three hundred days
- 37:07of doing physical penance in the Middle Ages. Think about that. The Salve
- 37:14Regina, or hell Holy Queen, as it's called, was composed in ten
- 37:17oh nine by Blessed Herman. In eleven forty six, the illustrious Saint Bernard
- 37:22added to it the sweet words Oh clement ol pious, old sweet Virgin Mary.
- 37:29So, y'all, you want peace in the world. You went into
- 37:32the horrible violence going on in Ukraine and Israel and Palestine. You want an
- 37:38into abortion, You want an into the violence that's going on in our country,
- 37:43which we do have. More people are killed by murder and assault and
- 37:50drug overdoses in America than in most wars on a daily, on a yearly
- 37:54basis. We literally that's how violent our nation is. We have nothing to
- 38:00be proud of in that regard. And I'm totally pro gun. I think
- 38:02everyone should carry a gun and defend themselves and everyone who's innocent and weak.
- 38:07It's not a matter of guns, it's a matter of hearts. It takes
- 38:09a human being to pull that trigger. You want to change that, you
- 38:13want to make things better. Pray the Rosary, pray the lit in the
- 38:16e Flretto, pray in general, Pray, pray, pray, pray,
- 38:22And yeah, I mean those indulgence prayers. Even though the teaching on it
- 38:27has been clarified, still very very important. Like I said, try to
- 38:34memorize one every week or every month. If you may have memorize one a
- 38:38year, Think about how much benefit that would have so anyway. In the
- 38:44words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope and don't worry and I'll talk
- 38:46to you tomorrow.
