- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. So today we are talking about
- 0:32disrupting our thoughts. And one of the reasons that I'm
- 0:37bringing this up at this point in time is because often even
- 0:41just a few days into the new year, you find yourself arguing
- 0:44about what you want to do. And you know, you've got your
- 0:47goals set, you've got your intentions set, and you're now
- 0:51arguing with yourself about getting up that hour earlier or
- 0:54that 15 minutes earlier or doing the number of stops or the
- 0:58workout or the food or giving up the sugar.
- 1:01I have a lot of people I know that are giving up alcohol for
- 1:05the month of January and they're doing a dry January.
- 1:08And then you'll find yourself arguing with yourself about it.
- 1:12So today we are talking about becoming the disruptor, being
- 1:17the disruption in your own mind about all of this and how you
- 1:21come in and you are prepared to say, OK, I am going to be a
- 1:26disruptor right now. This is not a thought that I
- 1:28want to have. What would the disruptor say?
- 1:30So we're creating a persona for your bus.
- 1:33For those of you who are regular followers, we're doing a persona
- 1:37of that we can add to the bus. It's called the disruptor.
- 1:40Now, in this case, sometimes when you hear the word
- 1:42disruptor, it's not really a good thing.
- 1:44People will be like, oh, they're just disrupting everything and
- 1:47we have a negative connotation to it.
- 1:49But this I want to put positive spin on and I want to talk about
- 1:53disrupting your own system that you have created for allowing
- 1:59yourself to get away with crap. And we want to do away with
- 2:03this. We want to at least challenge it
- 2:05at the very at the very smallest point, we want to challenge it.
- 2:09So being a disruptor means you're going to have to ask
- 2:12yourself better questions. And this is where you can't.
- 2:16It doesn't work as well with statements.
- 2:17You can do it with statements, but you can't get the same
- 2:20results. So because then you're just
- 2:22adding to your dysfunction. But if you ask a question, you
- 2:26literally start shifting your head into cause and effect so
- 2:30you have a better chance of getting an honest answer from
- 2:33yourself, as crazy as that may sound.
- 2:35Because we think, Oh well, we must be honest with ourselves.
- 2:38Oh, but no, no, no, we are rarely completely honest with
- 2:41ourselves. And we love to spin our stories
- 2:44in our heads or our Irish friends say spin the yarns that
- 2:48are in our heads. And I am beyond that with myself
- 2:53at this point. Like I do not want to hear
- 2:55myself tell that. So I created the disruptor for
- 2:58myself so that I know she can go in there and she can cause havoc
- 3:02of these beliefs that I no longer want to have in control
- 3:06or these habits that I no longer we want to have in control.
- 3:09So we have to change this pattern and part of the pattern
- 3:13comes up in what questions are we asking ourselves.
- 3:16So let's use an early morning thing because most of the time
- 3:20when you want to gain hours in your day or time in your day,
- 3:24it's going to come either early in the morning or late at night.
- 3:27Now I am not a late at night fan at all.
- 3:31I am like the person who could go to bed at 7:30 and be up at
- 3:353:30. That is kind of like my natural
- 3:38organic schedule. So for me, if I'm getting in bed
- 3:43at the right time, I can get up early.
- 3:45If I stay up too late, that's an issue.
- 3:48So let's just say it's about getting up early and you're
- 3:52staying up too late and you know you want to get up early.
- 3:55So you need to ask yourself better questions about the
- 3:59process, not just what do I need to do to get up early, because
- 4:03that's going to actually be an easier question to answer
- 4:06because we can all figure that out.
- 4:07We can all say, oh, well, I've got to go to bed at a decent
- 4:10time. Look at how vague that is.
- 4:12Decent time. I've got to make sure I have
- 4:14everything set before I go to bed.
- 4:16OK, what does that mean? What does everything set mean?
- 4:20And when you're in bed and you're not wanting to get up,
- 4:24what are you going to say to yourself at that point in time?
- 4:27And most of us don't have that. We'll say, well, I'll set the
- 4:30alarm. OK, well, how many times have we
- 4:32just hit the snooze button and just said screw it, I'm not
- 4:35getting up. We all do it.
- 4:36We all just functionally just say I'm not doing it.
- 4:39I I5 more minutes, 10 more minutes, but those 10 minutes
- 4:43add up. 10/20/30 Before you know it, you've stayed in bed an
- 4:46extra half hour and you've lost your edge.
- 4:48And this is about gaining back the edge.
- 4:51So it comes into the disruptor in your head has to have this
- 4:55pattern already set up differently.
- 4:57So you go to bed. You say I need to go to bed at
- 5:01this time. You give yourself specific
- 5:03instructions. You say I need to have my gym
- 5:05clothes all packed up and ready to go, or I need to have the
- 5:09video I'm going to watch all queued up and ready to go so I
- 5:12don't have to think about it. Or I need to have my sneakers on
- 5:16my bedside table. That's one of the things I did.
- 5:18And when I was training myself to to walk all as much as I do,
- 5:22I would have my sneakers staring at me right at the side table.
- 5:26And I had a note put into them curled so it would stand up.
- 5:30And it said get up. You said you were getting up.
- 5:33And I was like, OK, I saw that note.
- 5:35There you go. You can't get away from it.
- 5:38I put it right in front of myself.
- 5:39So you have to set that up ahead of time to make sure that you're
- 5:44there. And then the most important part
- 5:47is asking yourself what is the question that you're going to
- 5:50ask yourself when you want to skip out on yourself?
- 5:54And that question has to be in your head.
- 5:56So if you haven't picked 1 yet, you've got to get a question
- 5:59that's going to disrupt you. My question is always, is this
- 6:02the person you choose to be? And as soon as I ask myself that
- 6:07question, I get very annoyed and then I go and do what I need to
- 6:10do because I don't want to be the person that makes a
- 6:13commitment and skips out, especially on myself.
- 6:17All right my friends, go create that disruptor pattern for
- 6:20yourself. Get that persona on your bus and
- 6:22I will see you all tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 6:24Bye.
