- 1:24All right, guys, let's get this show kicked
- 1:26off.
- 1:27All right, are you ready?
- 1:27I know I am.
- 1:28So this is Inspirations for Your Life, in
- 1:31case you're wondering what the show was, and
- 1:34our master weekly topic for the first time
- 1:36being revealed today.
- 1:38It's going to be, yes, series five, show
- 1:4332, build a life that truly matters.
- 1:49And the granular topic today is how small
- 1:53actions create extraordinary results.
- 1:55Series five, show 32, episode number one.
- 2:00And welcome, everyone, once again to Inspirations for
- 2:04Your Life.
- 2:05I am John C.
- 2:06Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:12podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 2:16Montclair State University, a passionate lifelong learner, and
- 2:21now so grateful to be a published author.
- 2:25That's right.
- 2:26Have you ever noticed how we often wait
- 2:29for the perfect moment before making a change
- 2:33or a decision or just doing anything, right?
- 2:36We tell ourselves we'll start tomorrow or later
- 2:40or next week or next month.
- 2:42The reality is that extraordinary lives aren't built
- 2:46through one massive breakthrough.
- 2:48Sorry, guys.
- 2:49They're built through small actions repeated consistently over
- 2:54time.
- 2:55Every successful person started with a single decision
- 2:58to take one step forward.
- 3:02Today, I'm going to explore 30 simple principles
- 3:06that demonstrate how the smallest actions can create
- 3:11the biggest transformations.
- 3:14If you're ready to stop waiting and start
- 3:16building a life that truly matters, this episode
- 3:18is just earmarked for you.
- 3:21Let's get started, guys.
- 3:22Number one, every small action matters.
- 3:26Never underestimate the power of a small decision.
- 3:29Every choice you make moves you either closer
- 3:32to your goals or farther away from them.
- 3:37Number two, consistency beats intensity.
- 3:40It sure does.
- 3:43Anyone can stay motivated for a day, but
- 3:46real success belongs to those who remain consistent
- 3:50long after excitement fades.
- 3:52So, it's consistency and its structure that will
- 3:56yield you to success.
- 3:58That is the key, guys, all right?
- 4:01Very, very important to understand that.
- 4:03I think a lot of people go south
- 4:05and they don't realize like, you know, what
- 4:06it is or why this is, but I
- 4:09think it's important that we just become aware
- 4:11of that.
- 4:11I think that's so important for all of
- 4:13us to know that it's where we have
- 4:17to go.
- 4:18Number three, please build one habit at a
- 4:20time.
- 4:21I know you want to build a lot,
- 4:22but we can't be building a million pies
- 4:24until we first build the first one.
- 4:26Trying to change everything once usually leads to
- 4:29frustration and unfortunately, a disaster.
- 4:31Focus on mastering one positive habit before adding
- 4:35another one to your fold.
- 4:37Number four, focus on today's progress.
- 4:41Don't become overwhelmed by how far you have
- 4:45to go.
- 4:47Concentrate on taking one meaningful step today.
- 4:51That's it.
- 4:52Number five, greatness grows gradually.
- 4:56Most success stories took years to develop.
- 4:59Be patient with your journey and trust the
- 5:03process, all right?
- 5:05Trust the process.
- 5:06A lot of people don't want to trust
- 5:07the process.
- 5:08They're like, oh, I'm in a hurry.
- 5:10I know you're in a hurry, but it's
- 5:11important to understand that whole thing.
- 5:17Very important to understand the whole thing about
- 5:20it and, you know, and what's going on.
- 5:21So we've got to be a little patient.
- 5:23Number six, keep showing up.
- 5:26Some days you'll feel motivated.
- 5:27Other days you won't.
- 5:29It's that simple.
- 5:30The people who succeed continue showing up regardless
- 5:33of how they feel.
- 5:34You see, if I lived my life just
- 5:36on how I felt, I would never be
- 5:38successful.
- 5:38I need to live my life on discipline
- 5:40day in and day out.
- 5:43Number seven, momentum starts small.
- 5:46A single positive action creates another and before
- 5:51long those small actions become powerful momentum.
- 5:56Yes.
- 5:57Number eight, believe in steady improvement, okay?
- 6:01You don't have to become perfect overnight.
- 6:06Improving just one little thing every day creates
- 6:09incredible long-term results.
- 6:12That's key, guys.
- 6:13Number nine, tiny wins build confidence.
- 6:17Celebrate the small victories.
- 6:19Every accomplishment reminds you that you're capable of
- 6:23achieving even more.
- 6:26Number 10, progress compounds just like compound interest
- 6:31in our bank grows over time.
- 6:33Your daily efforts produce greater results than you
- 6:37may initially realize, okay?
- 6:39It's hard to get the engine going, but
- 6:41once the engine is primed and it's going,
- 6:43guess what?
- 6:44You want to keep going and going and
- 6:46going, right?
- 6:47It just keeps going on.
- 6:48It's so easy.
- 6:49It takes less energy to keep the engine
- 6:52going once you initially start.
- 6:54It seems delightful, right?
- 6:56You know, once you get it going, it
- 6:58takes a lot less energy.
- 6:59More so with the fluorescent bulbs and things
- 7:03like that.
- 7:03The LED bulbs don't take a lot of
- 7:05power.
- 7:05But my point is that when you start
- 7:07an engine, right, it takes a lot more
- 7:08energy to get the engine to turn over.
- 7:09Or if you're running a machine, right, and
- 7:12the machine has to get revved up, maybe
- 7:14a server, it takes a lot of energy
- 7:16to get it revved up.
- 7:17And then it slows down.
- 7:19Kind of like an airplane, takes a lot
- 7:20of energy to get revved up, and then
- 7:21it kind of drops down, right?
- 7:23It plateaus.
- 7:24Number 11, please stay patient.
- 7:26I know you're impatient.
- 7:28I get it.
- 7:28I know we want everything yesterday.
- 7:29We want everything now.
- 7:30Meaningful change rarely happens overnight.
- 7:33Stay committed even when progress feels slow.
- 7:39And when something feels slow, that's not the
- 7:41time you say, oh, you know what?
- 7:42I should quit.
- 7:44No, it's the time when you should actually
- 7:47make sense and realize you're on a path.
- 7:52That's important, OK?
- 7:55That's important that we understand that whole concept.
- 7:58And if we don't, then I can tell
- 8:00you that you're just going to be lost.
- 8:03Like, not just today, but you'll be lost
- 8:06every single day.
- 8:06And I think nobody wants to be lost.
- 8:08I think people get confused because they get
- 8:11frustrated and because they get overwhelmed or because
- 8:14they're given misdirections by someone who's not patient,
- 8:18right?
- 8:19Number 12, small efforts inspire others.
- 8:25People notice consistency.
- 8:27Your commitment may encourage someone else to begin
- 8:31improving their own life.
- 8:34That's a win, isn't it?
- 8:36Maybe you want 100 people to improve their
- 8:37lives.
- 8:38But hey, if you got, let's say, just
- 8:40one person to improve your life, I think
- 8:42that would be a win for you, right?
- 8:44A very, very big, big win.
- 8:48And when we learn to be patient and
- 8:53we start to see things showing up in
- 8:55our life, we start to be more patient
- 8:58over time, not just once.
- 9:01So I think that's a keen observation for
- 9:04us to understand.
- 9:05Number 13, build positive routines.
- 9:09Your daily routines eventually shape your future and
- 9:13your character.
- 9:17Good hot cup of tea.
- 9:19Design habits that support the life you want
- 9:23to create.
- 9:25That's key, guys.
- 9:26Number 14, stay committed.
- 9:31Commitment means continuing after motivation disappears.
- 9:35Success belongs to those who remain dedicated.
- 9:41Fifteen, learn from every step.
- 9:44Not just what seems to be a big
- 9:46step, learn from every step you have in
- 9:49your life.
- 9:49And I think you'll start to realize you're
- 9:51going to go far.
- 9:51But again, it doesn't happen overnight, okay?
- 9:56It doesn't happen overnight.
- 9:58And I can tell you guys that this
- 10:00is really important to realize.
- 10:02It's about patience.
- 10:04It's about patience.
- 10:06Every experience you have or have had teaches
- 10:11us something very valuable.
- 10:13Whether you succeed or struggle, there's always a
- 10:17lesson that helps us grow.
- 10:20But are we open to learning about that
- 10:22lesson or are we chastising, oh, I know
- 10:25that, I know everything?
- 10:26Well, if you know everything, it's great.
- 10:29But do you really know everything?
- 10:31Or are you just kind of like trying
- 10:33to mislead yourself?
- 10:34And I think that can be a problem,
- 10:37right?
- 10:39I think that's a very important thing is
- 10:41that, as I said, we have to be
- 10:43humble to what it is we do in
- 10:45life.
- 10:46If we're not humble, then I feel things
- 10:49are going to be hard for us.
- 10:52We're not going to be able to take
- 10:53new direction.
- 10:54If something changes in our pathway, we're not
- 10:57going to know how to change because we're
- 10:58not going to be willing to accept the
- 11:00change.
- 11:03So if you're open to change, people are
- 11:05more willing to want to coach you and
- 11:07give you consistent, instructive feedback.
- 11:10If you start giving people an attitude, they're
- 11:12going to be like, I don't want to
- 11:13help him.
- 11:13I don't want to help her.
- 11:14They always give me an attitude.
- 11:16I mean, are you a person that likes
- 11:18to give advice?
- 11:19Are you a person that, let's say, never
- 11:23gets advice given to you because maybe you
- 11:24have an attitude, right?
- 11:26I found that people that don't want to
- 11:30give advice are also the people that don't
- 11:32want to take advice.
- 11:37That's an important thing, guys, a very, very
- 11:41important thing to understand, very important.
- 11:44Number 16, please keep moving forward.
- 11:46Even if you don't feel like it, do
- 11:47it because of discipline.
- 11:49Progress doesn't require giant leaps or steps.
- 11:51It requires one more step than yesterday took.
- 11:54No matter how small the improvement may seem,
- 11:58every step forward moves you closer to the
- 12:01life you want to build.
- 12:05Number 17, success starts today, not tomorrow, not
- 12:10the day after, not next week, not next
- 12:14month, not the end of the quarter, not
- 12:17the end of the year, not next year.
- 12:20Waiting for the perfect time often becomes the
- 12:23reason people never begin.
- 12:26You know, a wise person once said to
- 12:27me, John, you know, you don't have to
- 12:30be great when you start.
- 12:35You don't have to be great when you
- 12:36start, but you have to start to become
- 12:40great, right?
- 12:42You don't have to be an expert when
- 12:45you start, but you have to start if
- 12:47you want to become an expert.
- 12:49The best time to start improving your life
- 12:51is with the choices you make right now,
- 12:55today, not tomorrow.
- 12:59Procrastination and delay is just a tactic we
- 13:02use because of fear, false evidence appearing real.
- 13:05And we use it to justify our reason
- 13:07for not wanting to go forward.
- 13:09Number 18, please protect your momentum.
- 13:13I know this sounds crazy for a lot
- 13:15of people, but we need to protect our
- 13:16momentum day in and day out.
- 13:18This is a very, very important thing to
- 13:21understand.
- 13:23Momentum is one of your greatest assets.
- 13:27Once you started building positive habits, protect them
- 13:32by staying consistent even when life becomes busy.
- 13:39You know, one person said to me, oh,
- 13:43they're always busy.
- 13:43And I'm busy, too.
- 13:44You guys know that.
- 13:45But you know, if I want something, I
- 13:48will make time for that in my life.
- 13:50So I tell people, if you really want
- 13:52to be a part of it, no matter
- 13:54how busy you are, I know you'll make
- 13:57time for it.
- 13:58And they look at me, and guess what?
- 14:01They somehow make time for it.
- 14:02I guess it was important to you.
- 14:04Or somebody that doesn't make it, I'm like,
- 14:05I guess it wasn't that important to you.
- 14:11And I say that not to be nasty.
- 14:12I say that because people that have priorities
- 14:15and understand things will realize that they can
- 14:19take something out of their life that maybe
- 14:21isn't working for them, right?
- 14:23Maybe they have to eliminate something and put
- 14:25something else in it.
- 14:28I think that's an important thing for us
- 14:30to understand.
- 14:32Number 19, please celebrate the small victories.
- 14:35Don't wait for the big, you know, grand
- 14:40gestures to show up.
- 14:41They're nice, but you don't need to wait
- 14:44for them, OK?
- 14:46Don't wait until you've reached your biggest goal
- 14:49or pinnacle to celebrate.
- 14:51Every milestone deserves recognition, because each one represents
- 14:57growth and progress.
- 15:02Progress doesn't mean you're a hero tomorrow.
- 15:05Progress doesn't mean you're a big success right
- 15:09now.
- 15:10It means you're a little better than where
- 15:13you were before.
- 15:14Let me take an example.
- 15:16Many of you know that I like to
- 15:18cook culinary desserts and stuff like that.
- 15:20But I also do some other cooking, like
- 15:21for non-baking.
- 15:23I do some cooking, like I like to
- 15:24do breakfast foods, like omelets and things like
- 15:27that.
- 15:27When I first started many years ago making
- 15:29an omelet, I was like, this is never
- 15:32going to work.
- 15:32Like, I can't get this to work.
- 15:34And when I chilled and I started realizing,
- 15:37OK, if I don't get it today, maybe
- 15:38I'll get it tomorrow.
- 15:39And if I get it tomorrow, then that's
- 15:41great.
- 15:41And if I don't get tomorrow, then I'll
- 15:42just wait.
- 15:44Because after all, guys, there is no rush
- 15:46for me to get it.
- 15:47There's no rush for me to get it.
- 15:51And when I start having that attitude, things
- 15:54got easier.
- 15:56And making the omelet just seemed to be
- 15:58so natural for me, so natural.
- 16:07Interesting, right?
- 16:13I think sometimes we put a lot of
- 16:17stress on ourselves, because we're not appearing like
- 16:22the way we want to be.
- 16:25We're not like the Joneses.
- 16:27And I always tell people this.
- 16:28Don't compare yourself to the Joneses, OK?
- 16:33You don't need to.
- 16:34You're different than the Joneses.
- 16:36Now, you might learn faster or slower than
- 16:38they are, but you're different.
- 16:40You come from a different premise.
- 16:43You may have different core values.
- 16:45I think these are important things that not
- 16:47everybody can fit in the same shoebox, or
- 16:50in the same box, for that matter.
- 16:53I think a lot of people get scared
- 16:55about that.
- 16:57Just because you're in a different box doesn't
- 16:59mean there's anything wrong with you.
- 17:00It means you approach things differently, right?
- 17:04We have some people that learn auditorially through
- 17:06their ears, visually only through their eyes, kinesthetic
- 17:09through touch, auditory, visual, kinesthetic.
- 17:12And most people, without getting into this too
- 17:14much tonight, are multifaceted, where they'll learn.
- 17:18They have to learn first with their eyes,
- 17:20and then with their touch, or touch first,
- 17:21and then with their eyes, and then with
- 17:22their auditorial, or hearing.
- 17:25And I think when people realize that it's
- 17:29OK to be different, then they feel comfortable
- 17:33to now learn.
- 17:35When people have pressure on them, it's hard
- 17:38for them to learn, hard for them to
- 17:39do certain things, unfortunately.
- 17:42Number 20, guys, and I know this is
- 17:44not easy for everybody, please stay disciplined.
- 17:50Please stay disciplined.
- 17:52I know the world's going to tell you
- 17:54you don't need to be disciplined.
- 17:56You do need to be disciplined, right?
- 17:59If you want success in your life, you'll
- 18:01choose to stay disciplined.
- 18:03You won't be disciplined for just one day,
- 18:07OK?
- 18:08You won't stay disciplined for just one day.
- 18:13I think that's a very important thing to
- 18:16understand for us.
- 18:21Don't just do it for the day.
- 18:26Do it for everything going forward.
- 18:29I think that's an important thing, every part
- 18:31of your life.
- 18:32So discipline is what keeps you moving.
- 18:35When motivation fades, which it will, we said
- 18:37this before, it's the daily commitment to doing
- 18:41what needs to be done, even when it's
- 18:43not easy.
- 18:44Now, I use like a Google Calendar and
- 18:45I have things digitally.
- 18:46You can use something else.
- 18:47You can use a piece of paper, but
- 18:49have something that allows you to cross off,
- 18:53to electronically mark that you've completed.
- 18:57Because what I used to do many years
- 18:59ago was spend so much time thinking about,
- 19:01OK, what do I have to do today?
- 19:03So now that a whole task is removed
- 19:06from my brain, is totally removed from my
- 19:09brain.
- 19:10I think that's a very important thing, because
- 19:14now my brain can focus on other things,
- 19:18OK?
- 19:19Now my brain can focus on other things.
- 19:22And that's a pretty cool thing if you
- 19:25ask me, OK?
- 19:26Very cool thing.
- 19:28Number 21, please trust the process.
- 19:32Not every effort produces immediate results, guys.
- 19:35Sometimes the greatest growth happens beneath the surface
- 19:40before anyone else can see it.
- 19:43Like an iceberg.
- 19:44There's a lot that goes on under an
- 19:47iceberg.
- 19:48But sometimes we don't realize or appreciate that.
- 19:52I think that's the biggest thing I can
- 19:54share with you.
- 19:55All right?
- 19:55We don't appreciate that.
- 19:58Number 22, guys, invest in yourself.
- 20:02I learned this very young on.
- 20:06When I was told, probably I think I
- 20:08was like in, I think I was in
- 20:10sixth grade.
- 20:12A relative told me, you always want to
- 20:13invest yourself.
- 20:14And I always went to Barnes and Noble
- 20:15a lot and did that again when I
- 20:18was in high school more.
- 20:21And I realized that investing yourself is one
- 20:27of the greatest things you can do.
- 20:29So the knowledge you gain, the skills you
- 20:32develop, and the habits you build become lifelong
- 20:36assets that no one can ever take away
- 20:39from you, your degree, right?
- 20:45When you add these tools, even though they're
- 20:50virtual to your tool belt, you become worth
- 20:54more.
- 20:54You have more value.
- 20:56And this shows you, hey, I'm worth more
- 20:58money, right?
- 20:59Maybe you need something to show yourself, me,
- 21:04just to give you that boost.
- 21:05Maybe you know the area, but maybe after
- 21:07you take the course and you see that
- 21:08you know the stuff, maybe that's enough to
- 21:10let you know that you can charge for
- 21:12it.
- 21:13Number 23, guys, every day counts.
- 21:15Every second, every minute counts.
- 21:17Every day offers another opportunity to learn, to
- 21:20improve, to encourage someone and become a better
- 21:24version of yourself.
- 21:26That's what we do every day here on
- 21:27the show.
- 21:28I help myself and others become better versions
- 21:31of themselves.
- 21:32Never, ever underestimate the value of a day.
- 21:36I like to also say, don't underestimate the
- 21:38value of a second, of a minute, of
- 21:41an hour.
- 21:41There's so much power that you have.
- 21:45And I think when you recognize that, it's
- 21:47like, oh my gosh, that's keen, guys.
- 21:51That's really, really key, right?
- 21:54That means that you can do so very
- 21:58much.
- 22:01And if you could do so very much,
- 22:03you can actually change your life right then
- 22:07and right there.
- 22:10But you can't do it overnight.
- 22:15You can't do it overnight.
- 22:18You have to do it from your core
- 22:21values.
- 22:21Now, if you don't have your core values,
- 22:23well, you first got to get those established
- 22:25because if you don't know where you're starting,
- 22:30how do you know where you're going?
- 22:32You have to know what your core values
- 22:35are and why you picked them.
- 22:37Why are they so important to you?
- 22:39Don't just pick something because somebody else says,
- 22:40oh, that's good to have.
- 22:43Really think about what that core value or
- 22:45values are and why they mean so much
- 22:48to you.
- 22:49Otherwise, they're not gonna work to help you
- 22:51achieve your goals.
- 22:52Number 24, focus on what you can control.
- 22:55Don't waste energy worrying about things beyond your
- 22:59influence.
- 23:00Put your attention where your actions can make
- 23:03the greatest difference.
- 23:07Yeah.
- 23:08So we can make a difference one day
- 23:10at a time.
- 23:12And don't get upset when you don't reach
- 23:15the goal tomorrow.
- 23:17Celebrate, as I said, the small progress.
- 23:21Celebrate that small progress.
- 23:22When you celebrate that small progress, life changes.
- 23:27Life changes.
- 23:30Life changes quite a bit.
- 23:36And I can tell you guys that it's
- 23:40amazing how you can do things when you
- 23:45believe you're worth the value.
- 23:47Number 25, stay resilient.
- 23:49Life will always bring challenges, but resilience allows
- 23:54you to recover, adapt, and continue growing instead
- 23:57of giving up.
- 23:58You're gonna have challenges.
- 24:00You're gonna have barricades put in your way,
- 24:04but that's an opportunity for us to learn
- 24:06from it so we don't hit it again
- 24:08and so we can grow.
- 24:11I'm not gonna say it's gonna be easy.
- 24:13I'm not gonna always say it's gonna be
- 24:14fun, but I'm gonna say that if you
- 24:16embrace it and you learn the lesson, you
- 24:18can throw away all the emotions, if they
- 24:20were bad, and just keep the lessons.
- 24:22You don't have to do that over and
- 24:23over again.
- 24:24Number 26, choose consistency, guys.
- 24:27Success rarely comes from one extraordinary effort.
- 24:30It comes from ordinary actions repeated with extraordinary
- 24:34consistency.
- 24:35Number 27, build lasting success.
- 24:38Real success isn't measured by one achievement.
- 24:43It's measured by creating habits and character that
- 24:46continue producing positive results year after year.
- 24:51Number 28, never ever underestimate small beginnings.
- 24:55Every great company, every accomplished leader, and every
- 24:59meaningful achievement began with a first step.
- 25:03Don't dismiss your own beginning because it seems
- 25:06small.
- 25:08Everything starts small.
- 25:09A flower starts small, right?
- 25:14Number 29, great achievements start small.
- 25:18Behind every remarkable success stories are thousands of
- 25:21small decisions that most people never saw.
- 25:25Those daily choices make all the difference in
- 25:29our lives and other people's lives.
- 25:31Small actions change lives, guys.
- 25:33Your future isn't shaped by what you hope
- 25:35to do someday.
- 25:37It's shaped by what you consistently choose to
- 25:40do today, day in and day out from
- 25:43your discipline.
- 25:44Small actions repeat over time, create extraordinary lives.
- 25:48But you don't get that pattern until you
- 25:52realize the discipline, until they're linked to your
- 25:55core values.
- 25:56In closing today, as we begin this new
- 26:00series for the week, build a life that
- 26:03truly matters.
- 26:04Remember, guys, that lasting success isn't created overnight.
- 26:09If you think so, you're gonna be mistaken
- 26:11and really fooled.
- 26:13It's built through the small micro decisions you
- 26:15make every single day, the habits you develop,
- 26:18and the commitment to keep improving even when
- 26:21progress seems like turtle's flow.
- 26:25Don't wait for a life-changing opportunity to
- 26:28appear.
- 26:29Create one through your daily actions.
- 26:32Stay consistent, remain patient, celebrate your progress, and
- 26:37never, ever underestimate the impact of one positive
- 26:41decision.
- 26:42Those small choices are building the person you'll
- 26:44become tomorrow, shaping your character.
