- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Well, it is just gonna be me today. The cold
- 0:15Speaker 2: still has gotten Sonia down for a while. She's on
- 0:17Speaker 2: another day of MC but not to worry, back with
- 0:21Speaker 2: us tomorrow here on the show. But strap yourselves in.
- 0:23Speaker 2: We are in for one heck of a ride today
- 0:26Speaker 2: on your Wednesday. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Welcome to a Wednesday. Joakim Gomez keeping you company right
- 0:34Speaker 2: here on the shock circuit. And OK, as it stands,
- 0:37Speaker 2: it's France 1, Sweden 0. We just started the second half.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Kylian Mbappe take a bow, and of course, the previous game,
- 0:47Speaker 2: Ivory Coast 1, Norway 2. Erling Harland with the most
- 0:53Speaker 2: nastiest of tap-ins to break Ivorian hearts, but you know what?
- 0:58Speaker 2: For Ivory Coast, they had a great campaign as well,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and Ama Diallo is on form. I cannot wait to
- 1:05Speaker 2: see how he'll perform for Manchester United when the season
- 1:08Speaker 2: starts again in August because he's been doing well. He scored,
- 1:11Speaker 2: I think, 2 or 3 amazing goals for Ivory Coast
- 1:14Speaker 2: in the World Cup campaign, so congratulations to him. And
- 1:17Speaker 2: for the Ivorians, nothing to be ashamed about. They went
- 1:20Speaker 2: down fighting just like Japan did against Brazil. Can't say
- 1:24Speaker 2: the same for Germany.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So as it stands in the round of 16, we
- 1:28Speaker 2: have Canada against Morocco and Brazil against their bogey team, Norway.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Norway are undefeated against Brazil. Would you believe that? And
- 1:40Speaker 2: as it stands, it's currently France 2, Sweden 0. Barcola
- 1:45Speaker 2: making it 2-0 for France. We have 60 minutes of
- 1:48Speaker 2: game time already, half an hour to go before maybe.
- 1:52Speaker 2: France might make it to the round of 16 unless
- 1:55Speaker 2: Sweden pull off a Swedish miracle. But when we come back,
- 1:59Speaker 2: if you're a cyclist here in Singapore and you're looking
- 2:02Speaker 2: for like a bicycle fare or whatsoever, or something along
- 2:06Speaker 2: the likes, our friends over at Decathlon, they have something
- 2:09Speaker 2: happening this weekend over at the Kallang Outlet and the
- 2:13Speaker 2: Punggol North Shore Outlet. Full details coming your way on
- 2:17Speaker 2: what in just a bit. If you
- 2:18Speaker 2: You're a cycling enthusiast, whether for leisure or you do
- 2:23Speaker 2: triathlons or biathlons, or you love cycling with your khakis
- 2:27Speaker 2: early in the morning before the roads get filled with
- 2:30Speaker 2: cars here in Singapore, you might want to pay attention
- 2:33Speaker 2: to this because happening this weekend over at Decathlon Kallang
- 2:37Speaker 2: and Decathlon Punggol North Shore, it's an event called Recycle
- 2:42Speaker 2: and Ride. Very cute word play.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And the word recycle, and it's brought to you by
- 2:48Speaker 2: Tour de France, EFGH Singapore Criterium and local retailers, and
- 2:52Speaker 2: I think decathlon are playing hosts. So you can find
- 2:56Speaker 2: refurbished bicycles of up to 80% off. There'll be trade-ins,
- 3:01Speaker 2: there'll be workshops, and we're talking all kinds of bicycles.
- 3:04Speaker 2: It could be your foldable ones, it could be your
- 3:06Speaker 2: sports ones, mountain bikes. If you see a Hello Ride
- 3:10Speaker 2: or any wheel there, please call the police.
- 3:13Speaker 2: It's not supposed to be there. Yes, it's pre-loved bikes
- 3:16Speaker 2: that have been owned by people. It, it could be
- 3:18Speaker 2: a very nice cycling networking session as well. There will
- 3:22Speaker 2: be workshops, so again, take note happening this weekend at
- 3:26Speaker 2: Decathlon Kallang. Some score updates coming your way. France 3,
- 3:31Speaker 2: Sweden 0. It's him again, Kylian Mbappe, and now Mbappe
- 3:36Speaker 2: and Lionel Messi.
- 3:38Speaker 2: The same amount of goals for World Cup 2026. The
- 3:42Speaker 2: race for the Golden Ball really heating up because we've
- 3:45Speaker 2: got Erling Harland and Vinnie Junior just behind them, hoping
- 3:50Speaker 2: to give them a good fight as well for the
- 3:51Speaker 2: Golden Ball this year to win, or by the Golden Boot.
- 3:55Speaker 2: There we go. When we come back though, this weekend, yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 2: I think it's more or less confirmed that it'll be
- 4:01Speaker 2: Taylor Swift's wedding. Everything.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Has been kept tight-lipped on what's happening, the sort of
- 4:07Speaker 2: food they're serving, even the decor as well, but people
- 4:10Speaker 2: are spying and giving information to the press in the US,
- 4:14Speaker 2: and apparently one piece of decor involves one of Taylor's
- 4:19Speaker 2: favorite songs from the Folklore album. I'll give you more
- 4:22Speaker 2: details in just a while. Kevin, I feel as if
- 4:25Speaker 2: the amount of times I've given you updates about Taylor
- 4:27Speaker 2: and Travis Kelsey's wedding.
- 4:29Speaker 2: It it feels like the royal wedding, but for everyone
- 4:32Speaker 2: all over the world who are fans of either Taylor
- 4:35Speaker 2: Swift or Travis Kelsey. So we have established that it
- 4:38Speaker 2: could be happening this weekend, July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
- 4:42Speaker 2: There could be a fan event happening at Madison Square
- 4:45Speaker 2: Garden because they booked out the entire place. Travis Kelsey's team,
- 4:49Speaker 2: the Kansas City Chiefs, are booking out hotel areas as
- 4:52Speaker 2: well to stay in New York City for the wedding.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yesterday, we shared with you about how for the food,
- 4:58Speaker 2: one of Taylor's favorite Italian restaurants in New York City,
- 5:02Speaker 2: Via Carrotta, hopefully I'm saying that correctly. I think she'll
- 5:06Speaker 2: be catering food from them. It's quite a high-end Italian
- 5:08Speaker 2: place in New York City. But in terms of wedding decor,
- 5:12Speaker 2: The wedding spies have reported to the press that they
- 5:17Speaker 2: saw a huge mirror ball going into Madison Square Garden,
- 5:22Speaker 2: which also could be another Easter egg from Taylor Swift
- 5:25Speaker 2: that she planted a long time ago because when asked,
- 5:29Speaker 2: What are some of her favorite songs? She mentioned this song,
- 5:32Speaker 2: Mirror Ball from the album Folklore. This could be an
- 5:35Speaker 2: Easter egg for her upcoming wedding because people have spotted
- 5:39Speaker 2: mirror balls being put inside Madison Square Garden. Again, nothing's
- 5:44Speaker 2: been confirmed. It's all hearsay. Taylor and Travis are keeping
- 5:48Speaker 2: it really under wraps. I'm pretty sure people who are
- 5:51Speaker 2: working on that wedding, they had to sign an NDA
- 5:54Speaker 2: to not tell the press.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Anything and keep the information private and confidential. When we
- 6:00Speaker 2: come back here on the Shock circuit, phone lines will
- 6:02Speaker 2: be open at 669-119-87. We want you to give your
- 6:07Speaker 2: school a shout out. Tell us all about your classmates,
- 6:11Speaker 2: what's happening in school today or maybe even this week.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Are you already doing any weighted assessments after the June holidays?
- 6:18Speaker 2: So I think on Monday, we had somebody from Sing
- 6:21Speaker 2: Nan Primary, and yes,
- 6:22Speaker 2: Today we're at ACS Junior. Hopefully, we get a new
- 6:25Speaker 2: school today. So again, be on standby at 669-119-87. I'll
- 6:30Speaker 2: be opening up the phone lines in maybe, say, less
- 6:33Speaker 2: than 6 minutes. Time to give your school a shout out.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Let us know what's happening in class today. Maybe PE.
- 6:40Speaker 2: That could be the chemistry lesson you really hate, or
- 6:43Speaker 2: your favorite teachers teaching you today. Let us know again. 669-11987.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Biggest takeaway from this is, I get to know what
- 6:52Speaker 2: kind of songs you and your classmates enjoy here on 987.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I can tell Boss Janice and maybe we'll play more
- 6:59Speaker 2: of it here on the Shock circuit. So, get your
- 7:02Speaker 2: calls coming in 669-11-987. Let's have a small chat and
- 7:06Speaker 2: you request for your favorite song to play right here
- 7:09Speaker 2: on the Shock circuit. 987, hello, what's your name? Desiree. Hello, Desiree,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and what school are you from?
- 7:16Speaker 2: Henry Park. Henry Park. OK, and what level are you
- 7:19Speaker 2: in this year? And what has been exciting so far
- 7:23Speaker 2: for you ever since going back to school after the
- 7:26Speaker 2: June holidays? Meeting. Meeting your friends, OK. And is there
- 7:31Speaker 2: anything exciting happening in school today?
- 7:34Speaker 2: No. Oh no, you sound so sad, but what's the
- 7:38Speaker 2: one thing about Henry Park you love? The food. The food.
- 7:42Speaker 2: If I were to come down to Henry Park one day,
- 7:44Speaker 2: what should I try? What's the first thing I should try? Japanese.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Japanese food. OK, thank you very much for the info then. Desiree,
- 7:52Speaker 2: what song can I play for you here on 987?
- 7:56Speaker 2: Jam Jam by Blackpit coming up for you. Enjoy your
- 7:59Speaker 2: day at school, OK? Take care, Desiree. Bye-bye. OK. Final score,
- 8:03Speaker 2: France 3, Sweden 0, Sweden eliminated from the World Cup
- 8:08Speaker 2: and France will take on Paraguaay. That's gonna be an
- 8:12Speaker 2: interesting round of 16. France, in my opinion, they've been
- 8:16Speaker 2: untested this World Cup. They make, they made Sweden look
- 8:19Speaker 2: bang on average. I wonder whether Paraguay give them the
- 8:23Speaker 2: same fight that they gave.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Germany just yesterday morning, Singapore time and the other round
- 8:28Speaker 2: of 16 games is confirmed. It's Brazil against Norway, Vinicius
- 8:33Speaker 2: Junior against Erling Harland. When we come back, more details
- 8:37Speaker 2: coming your way about what to look out for for
- 8:39Speaker 2: the World Cup and also, it feels as if today's
- 8:43Speaker 2: news all brought to you by airlines. I'm talking AirAsia
- 8:47Speaker 2: and Scoot. Details coming your way. It's here with you,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and if Taylor Swift needs a DJ for her wedding,
- 8:52Speaker 2: she won't be calling Kevin Harris.
- 8:55Speaker 2: If you know, you know. But OK, we've got some
- 8:57Speaker 2: airline updates coming your way. Let's start with the very
- 9:00Speaker 2: first one from AirAsia. If you're looking to fly direct
- 9:03Speaker 2: to Bali or Jakarta using AirAsia from Singapore, uh, take note,
- 9:08Speaker 2: as of today, they stopped direct flights between Singapore and Jakarta,
- 9:13Speaker 2: as well as to Bali, and other routes are not
- 9:16Speaker 2: available as well. So if you're flying
- 9:18Speaker 2: AirAsia to Jakarta in the future or maybe even Bali,
- 9:22Speaker 2: you have to fly up to KL first, transit for
- 9:25Speaker 2: a while, then you'll fly down to Indonesia. So the
- 9:29Speaker 2: reason given is they're cutting out less profitable routes because of,
- 9:33Speaker 2: you know, the fuel costs and management costs for AirAsia
- 9:36Speaker 2: Airlines fleets and all that. So, there you go. But
- 9:39Speaker 2: don't worry, there are other airlines you can use to
- 9:41Speaker 2: fly to Bali direct. I mean,
- 9:42Speaker 2: They're Singapore Airlines. They got Scoot as well. So please
- 9:45Speaker 2: take note, and I don't think you're able to find
- 9:48Speaker 2: a direct booking from Singapore to Bali or Jakarta on
- 9:52Speaker 2: the AirAsia site anymore. Yeah. Part of an interesting start
- 9:56Speaker 2: to July for our friends over at AirAsia. Just looking
- 9:59Speaker 2: at ticket sales for the weekend after Hours Till Dawn
- 10:02Speaker 2: tour in Singapore. Don't forget he's performing October 2nd, October 3rd.
- 10:06Speaker 2: As it stands, it's almost sold out. Limited tickets are
- 10:11Speaker 2: available for the standing pen, but for the seated areas, 99%
- 10:18Speaker 2: of it, it's gone, unless you really want the corner
- 10:21Speaker 2: sections of the National Stadium for both October 2nd and October.
- 10:26Speaker 2: October 3rd here in Singapore. So if you're going for
- 10:28Speaker 2: the one on Saturday, October 3rd, I'll see you at
- 10:31Speaker 2: the Kallang, the National Stadium. That's it, when we come back,
- 10:35Speaker 2: speaking of the east area here in Singapore, some updates
- 10:39Speaker 2: coming your way on the open inverted commas, Long Island.
- 10:43Speaker 2: They'll be happening in Singapore very soon.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I want to share with you on what you can
- 10:49Speaker 2: and cannot do when construction starts. Friendly rivalry on November
- 10:54Speaker 2: twenty-eighth here in Singapore. Will you be going for Baby
- 10:57Speaker 2: Monster or will you be going for Le Seraphim? They
- 10:59Speaker 2: are both performing on the same day but at different venues.
- 11:03Speaker 2: But anyway, what you can look forward to here in
- 11:06Speaker 2: Singapore in the next few decades is the Long Island.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Maybe this was the East Coast plan that all of
- 11:12Speaker 2: us now finally know.
- 11:14Speaker 2: What's going to happen over there. We're looking at over
- 11:16Speaker 2: 800 hectares of land, 20 kilometers of waterfront parks over
- 11:22Speaker 2: the coming decades. There'll be new houses there as well. So,
- 11:26Speaker 2: very soon, maybe say end of this year, Singapore will
- 11:29Speaker 2: be starting to prepare works for the Long Island project.
- 11:33Speaker 2: But for now, the works will include clearing the seabed
- 11:37Speaker 2: obstructions and moving materials into the water.
- 11:41Speaker 2: It does not involve any land reclamation as of yet.
- 11:46Speaker 2: People are studying the environmental impact and of course this
- 11:49Speaker 2: project aims to protect Singapore's coastline while creating new homes
- 11:55Speaker 2: and improving water resilience. The interesting part is people are wondering, hey,
- 11:59Speaker 2: so what can I do over at East Coast Park?
- 12:02Speaker 2: Can I still run? Can I still have my barbecues?
- 12:05Speaker 2: Can my friends and I gather there on Sunday to
- 12:08Speaker 2: Just chill and lay out. The answer is yes. So, jogging, cycling,
- 12:13Speaker 2: and picnics at the East Coast Park area, you still
- 12:16Speaker 2: can do. You can have your barbecues and beach activities.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So most of your land-based activities will be carried out
- 12:24Speaker 2: as usual, but some water sports like maybe say your kayaking, sailing,
- 12:31Speaker 2: and similar activities, you may have to avoid the
- 12:34Speaker 2: Active work areas because some stretches of the sea at
- 12:38Speaker 2: East Coast Park may be closed temporarily as these works
- 12:41Speaker 2: are carried on as well, and fishing as well as
- 12:44Speaker 2: boating access may be limited to specific zones during the
- 12:50Speaker 2: preparatory works to clear the seabed obstruction. So again, no
- 12:55Speaker 2: land reclamation works as of yet. For now, they're just
- 12:58Speaker 2: preparing to do more work in the future.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see when this will be completed.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I think running and cycling over at East Coast Park
- 13:06Speaker 2: will be a whole new experience in maybe say 15
- 13:09Speaker 2: to 20 years' time. This song always gives me anxiety
- 13:13Speaker 2: because it ends so abruptly. But anyway, when we come back,
- 13:16Speaker 2: your second of two.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Airline stories that we have for you. We covered AirAsia
- 13:22Speaker 2: earlier and how you can no longer fly direct to
- 13:25Speaker 2: Jakarta and Bali from Singapore using AirAsia as of today.
- 13:30Speaker 2: If you're doing so, you've got to transit in KL.
- 13:33Speaker 2: You've got to fly up to fly down.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Make it make sense, but I guess for AirAsia's reasoning,
- 13:38Speaker 2: they are cutting less profitable routes when it comes to
- 13:42Speaker 2: the cost of managing AirAsia, maybe even fuel costs as well.
- 13:45Speaker 2: But when we come back, we're gonna turn our attention
- 13:48Speaker 2: to Scoot, and if you find this familiar,
- 13:55Speaker 2: Gonna give you something to look forward to as we
- 13:57Speaker 2: build up towards July 31st. And OK, this one involves Scoot.
- 14:02Speaker 2: If you find this familiar.
- 14:07Speaker 2: OK, I know it's from the older Spider-Man, the Tobey
- 14:10Speaker 2: Maguire one if I'm not wrong, but very soon, in
- 14:14Speaker 2: 30 days' time, at the end of the month, we're
- 14:18Speaker 2: getting Spider-Man brand new day. I cannot wait for that movie.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Again, I always say this, the Marvel Cinematic Universe currently
- 14:26Speaker 2: it's in a mess right now. I, I really wonder
- 14:29Speaker 2: what's gonna happen for Avengers Doomsday. But when it comes
- 14:31Speaker 2: to the Spider-Man films, you can tell that it's a
- 14:34Speaker 2: franchise that nobody at Marvel wants to mess up. They
- 14:38Speaker 2: write it carefully, they give us loads of surprises, and
- 14:41Speaker 2: speaking of surprises, have you seen the ad of Spider-Man
- 14:45Speaker 2: and Lionel Messi?
- 14:48Speaker 2: I saw a comment that read, this is Lionel Messi's
- 14:52Speaker 2: Ronaldo Shopi ad.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Quite hilarious. I mean, yeah, I, I don't think Lionel
- 14:59Speaker 2: Messi will enter the world of acting very soon, but OK,
- 15:02Speaker 2: if you are flying Scoot and more or less the
- 15:05Speaker 2: Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A321 Neo, you could
- 15:11Speaker 2: be on your way to Chiang Mai today. You might
- 15:14Speaker 2: actually spot a Scoot plane with all the.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Spider-Man decor and the decal. We're talking about the headrest.
- 15:21Speaker 2: There'll be Spider-Man sets on board. You can buy some
- 15:24Speaker 2: exclusive tags to promote Spider-Man, the movie, Brand New Day.
- 15:28Speaker 2: And this you'll see till September 13th. So for now,
- 15:32Speaker 2: as of yesterday, they flew one to Tokyo, Haneda Airport,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and today they're flying to Chiang Mai.
- 15:39Speaker 2: For the upcoming weeks, the two aircrafts I mentioned, the
- 15:42Speaker 2: Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the one called the Airbus A321 Neo,
- 15:48Speaker 2: if you're flying to places like Australia, China, Philippines, and Thailand,
- 15:53Speaker 2: you can prepared, be prepared to see loads of Spider-Man
- 15:55Speaker 2: decor on board and
- 15:57Speaker 2: Even, you know, the pre-flight music? It will be the
- 15:59Speaker 2: soundtrack from Spider-Man Brand New Day. There you go. This
- 16:03Speaker 2: is not involving football action, but more of the fallout
- 16:08Speaker 2: of a team that was expected to do well at
- 16:11Speaker 2: the World Cup, but they got out in the, they
- 16:14Speaker 2: didn't even qualify, I think, and the fans are really angry.
- 16:19Speaker 2: South Korea, yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 2: They were all thinking, OK, we're gonna qualify for the
- 16:25Speaker 2: round of 32 easy, but in the group stages, they
- 16:28Speaker 2: faltered a little bit and they are out. And the
- 16:31Speaker 2: fans online, and even at the airport, and now even
- 16:37Speaker 2: some stalls in South Korea, they are going all out
- 16:42Speaker 2: when it comes to the criticism and.
- 16:44Speaker 2: When the South Korean team were returning from the airport
- 16:47Speaker 2: in Seoul, they were booed. People were shouting criticisms at them,
- 16:51Speaker 2: and then for the coach Hong Myong-bo, even the president
- 16:56Speaker 2: of South Korea has called for an investigation into the
- 16:59Speaker 2: Korean Football Association. Hong Myong-bo has quit as head coach
- 17:04Speaker 2: of South Korea, by the way.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And some of these stalls or even restaurants or places
- 17:09Speaker 2: in South Korea, they have banned members of the national
- 17:14Speaker 2: team from entering the stall to eat or do business
- 17:17Speaker 2: with them. That, that's how bad the criticism is for
- 17:21Speaker 2: the South Korean men's national team. But I'm very sure
- 17:25Speaker 2: maybe for Japan, they'll be welcomed back as heroes. They,
- 17:29Speaker 2: they
- 17:29Speaker 2: had a very good World Cup campaign. Now, I wonder
- 17:32Speaker 2: about how Germany would be, especially with the media and
- 17:36Speaker 2: maybe even the Netherlands as well. So, Germany, Netherlands, and
- 17:40Speaker 2: South Korea, three teams that maybe surprised the world in
- 17:44Speaker 2: their early exit when it comes to World Cup 2026. So,
- 17:48Speaker 2: based on the C word criticism, I, I wanna ask
- 17:51Speaker 2: you a question here on 987. In terms of maybe
- 17:54Speaker 2: say work or life or even school,
- 17:59Speaker 2: Have you ever been unfairly criticized? What happened and how
- 18:04Speaker 2: did you deal with it?
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's never easy dealing with criticism, but when it comes
- 18:10Speaker 2: to that, sometimes it's warranted, constructive criticism, of course, and
- 18:15Speaker 2: sometimes it can be just downright unfair. So I wanna
- 18:18Speaker 2: reach to your heartstrings today. Maybe you can share your
- 18:20Speaker 2: story and someone who could be going through the same
- 18:22Speaker 2: thing might be able to relate and find some answers
- 18:26Speaker 2: in your solutions as well. And if we
- 18:28Speaker 2: If you like your answer, what's coming your way? A
- 18:30Speaker 2: $100 Cocoa Island Singapore voucher. So get your calls coming in,
- 18:35Speaker 2: 669-119-87 or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987. Have you
- 18:42Speaker 2: ever been unfairly criticized? What happened and how did you
- 18:46Speaker 2: deal with it? In case you just joined us, the
- 18:48Speaker 2: South Korean men's national football team getting whacked left, right,
- 18:53Speaker 2: center in the media.
- 18:54Speaker 2: And when they landed in the airport back in Korea,
- 18:58Speaker 2: they were booed massively by people who turned up. They
- 19:01Speaker 2: were shouted, abused at, and now some restaurants and even
- 19:06Speaker 2: stores in South Korea are banning the former head coach,
- 19:09Speaker 2: Seong Yong-bo, and some of the players from entering the
- 19:12Speaker 2: store to eat or even do business with them. That's
- 19:14Speaker 2: the level of criticism they're getting from South Koreans themselves.
- 19:19Speaker 2: It it's, it's really something else, to be honest with you.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Because how people are upset that they got out of
- 19:26Speaker 2: the World Cup earlier than expected. So based on that,
- 19:30Speaker 2: asking you on this Wednesday morning as we begin the
- 19:32Speaker 2: month of July, what have you been unfairly criticized for?
- 19:36Speaker 2: What happened and how did you
- 19:38Speaker 2: with it. Got some texts coming in. Thank you for sharing,
- 19:41Speaker 2: by the way. Wanna say good morning to Andrew. Andrew says,
- 19:44Speaker 2: hey Joakim, growing up, whenever something went missing at home,
- 19:49Speaker 2: everyone would automatically blame me because I was the eldest. Aiyo.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Andrew, I, I, I can't relate, only child, but I've
- 19:57Speaker 2: heard of my friends who are the eldest child getting
- 20:00Speaker 2: all the blame and all that. It used to frustrate me,
- 20:03Speaker 2: but eventually I learned not to react immediately and just
- 20:07Speaker 2: prove my innocence, and sometimes I absolutely do not like
- 20:11Speaker 2: it and my parents say, you're the eldest child, can
- 20:13Speaker 2: you please set a better example? Wow!
- 20:17Speaker 2: Oh, that one can be quite painful. One coming in from,
- 20:22Speaker 2: I think your name is Sing Tia. Hello Sing Jie.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Hey Joakim. In poly, our lecturer thought I wasn't pulling
- 20:29Speaker 2: my weight during a group assignment.
- 20:32Speaker 2: I had actually done most of the research behind the scenes.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Instead of arguing, I actually showed my work and I
- 20:38Speaker 2: let the results speak for themselves. Well done, Sing Che.
- 20:41Speaker 2: A great example on always keeping receipts and always taking
- 20:44Speaker 2: notes of when you actually do work, so that if
- 20:47Speaker 2: anything were to happen to you in that sense, you
- 20:49Speaker 2: can show, nah, it's here. What have you got to
- 20:51Speaker 2: say now, sir? Yeah, thankfully. Today's question, of course, unfair criticism.
- 20:57Speaker 2: What happened and how did you deal with it?
- 20:59Speaker 2: 669-11987 or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987, saying good
- 21:06Speaker 2: morning to Amy. Amy, you say, morning, Joakim. I took
- 21:09Speaker 2: over a colleague's job who resigned and I found out
- 21:12Speaker 2: the process of buying and selling was wrong. I flagged
- 21:16Speaker 2: it to my GM and he kept quiet, but when
- 21:18Speaker 2: things escalated, he wanted to fault me for the $50,000 loss,
- 21:24Speaker 2: but lucky me, I had all the evidence that it.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Wasn't on me. He made my life a nightmare after that,
- 21:29Speaker 2: but I persevered, and God helped me as he had
- 21:31Speaker 2: a stroke, oh no, as he had a stroke and
- 21:33Speaker 2: could no longer work. Now I'm at the same company
- 21:36Speaker 2: doing much better and leaders that see the value in
- 21:38Speaker 2: my work, moral of the story, stand your ground if
- 21:40Speaker 2: you are right. OK. Personally speaking, I hope your former
- 21:44Speaker 2: GM is OK, but on a professional sense, yeah, I
- 21:48Speaker 2: can only imagine the living hell you were put through,
- 21:50Speaker 2: and thank you very much for sharing this, Amy.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Coming in from Brian. Brian says, hey, Joakim, good morning
- 21:56Speaker 2: to you. On the topic of unfair criticism, I was
- 22:00Speaker 2: criticized and embarrassed for not being available to answer a
- 22:04Speaker 2: call from management on a weekend. It was, it was
- 22:08Speaker 2: viewed as a lack of commitment and uninterested to learn.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Finding out it happened to several colleagues as well, I
- 22:13Speaker 2: decided to not normalize it and I left the company
- 22:16Speaker 2: shortly after. Wow, Brian, well done to you. Well done.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Standing your ground and drawing your boundaries clear. So hopefully,
- 22:26Speaker 2: the company you're with now is more fair when it
- 22:29Speaker 2: comes to the way they treat you over the weekends
- 22:31Speaker 2: and it's rightly so, your break time and your me days.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Keep the calls and texts coming in once again over
- 22:36Speaker 2: at 6.
- 22:37Speaker 2: 691-1987 or 90050987. If you do like your answer, a
- 22:43Speaker 2: $100 Cocoa Island Singapore dining voucher, it is coming your way.
- 22:47Speaker 2: On the topic of unfair criticism, what happened and how
- 22:51Speaker 2: did you deal with it?
- 22:53Speaker 2: This one stemming off whatever the South Korean men's national
- 22:57Speaker 2: football team are going through right now. Yes, it's disappointing
- 23:01Speaker 2: their World Cup campaign came to a very early end,
- 23:04Speaker 2: but the criticism they are getting from the media, the
- 23:07Speaker 2: fans who showed up at the airport to boo them
- 23:10Speaker 2: upon their return, even the South Korean president has ordered
- 23:14Speaker 2: an investigation to the Korean Football Association to find out
- 23:18Speaker 2: what went wrong for this particular World Cup season.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it is bad. Stalls and restaurants are banning some
- 23:25Speaker 2: of the national football teams from coming in to eat.
- 23:28Speaker 2: The ex-coach Seung Moonbo is getting slammed left, right, and
- 23:34Speaker 2: center in the media. So I'm gonna go to WhatsApp
- 23:37Speaker 2: right now and just say hello to one more message.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Wanna say hello to Sid. You say, hey, Joakim, I
- 23:43Speaker 2: used to work in a uniform organization.
- 23:46Speaker 2: In the past, I used to work hard to chase
- 23:48Speaker 2: for a good grade and rank. I even went for
- 23:50Speaker 2: a degree program where I graduated with honors. When my
- 23:54Speaker 2: late dad had cancer, it affected my work greatly, and
- 23:58Speaker 2: when he passed on, I fell into depression.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Instead of checking in on what had affected my work,
- 24:04Speaker 2: my supervisor only criticized my poor work and also said,
- 24:07Speaker 2: which stupid person gave me the chance to even take
- 24:10Speaker 2: a degree? I was so affected by the remark and
- 24:12Speaker 2: shortly left the work as I was not appreciated and
- 24:15Speaker 2: all the time I had sacrificed my time to chase
- 24:18Speaker 2: that grade or rank.
- 24:20Speaker 2: It was not worth it. Well, Sid, thank you so
- 24:22Speaker 2: much for being so open and sharing it with us
- 24:24Speaker 2: here on 987. I really hope you are doing better
- 24:28Speaker 2: at a different organization and different field of work. Again,
- 24:31Speaker 2: a big thank you for all your calls and texts
- 24:33Speaker 2: earlier about unfair criticism, what happened and how did you
- 24:37Speaker 2: handle it. And as I said it, maybe my phone
- 24:40Speaker 2: is listening to me.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I was scrolling through videos of the South Korean national
- 24:44Speaker 2: team coming back to the airport in Seoul. Whoa, the insults,
- 24:48Speaker 2: the abuse that they were shouted at, it was quite terrible.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Words I can't ever say on radio and of course,
- 24:56Speaker 2: there are some restaurants and stalls in South Korea that
- 24:59Speaker 2: has banned any members of the Korean Football Association from
- 25:04Speaker 2: ever dining in there for a while. And hopefully, what
- 25:07Speaker 2: Captain Song Hyun-min posted on Instagram a few days ago,
- 25:11Speaker 2: saying how he has to win back the hearts of
- 25:13Speaker 2: Korean fans again, we'll see. Will he feature in World
- 25:17Speaker 2: Cup 2030?
- 25:19Speaker 2: Let's wait and find out. That said though, for today's winner,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I wanna give it to Sid who texted us earlier. Sid,
- 25:26Speaker 2: thank you very much.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Sharing about how you were very hardworking, you went to
- 25:32Speaker 2: go get a degree and you graduated with honors, but unfortunately,
- 25:35Speaker 2: because of your dad having cancer, it affected your work
- 25:38Speaker 2: and one supervisor giving you needless criticism. It affected you.
- 25:43Speaker 2: You've since left and I hope you are at a
- 25:45Speaker 2: better space. Thank you very much, Sid. Again, what's coming?
- 25:48Speaker 2: In your way, a nice dining experience, all thanks to
- 25:50Speaker 2: Cocoa Island, Singapore. Go chill from the heat and humidity
- 25:54Speaker 2: here in our country. Woke up this morning to an
- 25:56Speaker 2: update on my WhatsApp, or rather like a notification when
- 26:00Speaker 2: I opened the app. It said, hey, Joakim Gomez, would
- 26:04Speaker 2: you like to secure your username and have it reserved
- 26:09Speaker 2: before they officially launch it, and to which I said,
- 26:11Speaker 2: Hell yes, I need this.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I, I don't want any other Joakim Gomez's to be
- 26:17Speaker 2: texting people here in Singapore or all over the world.
- 26:19Speaker 2: So yeah, you can now go and reserve your username.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I'm not too sure whether they rolled out this function
- 26:25Speaker 2: for everyone using WhatsApp here in Singapore, but please do
- 26:29Speaker 2: so and make sure that you set the
- 26:33Speaker 2: How people can contact you. Don't set it to everyone.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Set it to people must require a passkey and your
- 26:41Speaker 2: username before they can message you. But to me, I
- 26:43Speaker 2: just want to play it safe, so there you go.
- 26:45Speaker 2: If anybody else out here is called Joakim Gomez, I'm sorry, uh,
- 26:48Speaker 2: it's taken by me.
- 26:51Speaker 2: So yeah, Telegram users are going, aha, we did it
- 26:54Speaker 2: first and who still uses WhatsApp? Yeah, unfortunately, for work,
- 26:58Speaker 2: I'm mostly on WhatsApp and for some convos as well.
- 27:01Speaker 2: But yeah, I I've become a little bit of a
- 27:04Speaker 2: Telegram convert. I realize people find it easier there and
- 27:07Speaker 2: the stickers, the stickers make Telegram fun. And given how Singapore,
- 27:11Speaker 2: we're known to be a clean and green city, as
- 27:15Speaker 2: of yesterday, we introduced our first national tree pruning standard.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Had no idea this was in the works, but it's
- 27:23Speaker 2: to improve tree care, public safety, and the long-term health
- 27:29Speaker 2: of urban trees. So this will apply to trees along
- 27:32Speaker 2: the roads, in parks, and on both public and private properties,
- 27:37Speaker 2: with and parks requiring compliance for new tree care contracts
- 27:42Speaker 2: in the second half of 2026, which starts today, of course.
- 27:45Speaker 2: And look, this is to protect, you know, humans as well.
- 27:49Speaker 2: As well as the wildlife. Workers must check for wildlife
- 27:54Speaker 2: before pruning. I'm pretty sure they were doing it before
- 27:56Speaker 2: this whole thing came into play, but now it's officially
- 27:59Speaker 2: on paper, they have to follow it. And apparently, this
- 28:02Speaker 2: will be taught in schools as well, in ITEs and
- 28:05Speaker 2: Neon Polytechnic to train the next generation of boris and
- 28:10Speaker 2: landscape professionals. So, there you go. Hopefully, this improves the
- 28:15Speaker 2: tree conditions here in Singapore and also,
- 28:18Speaker 2: Not just that, but no accidental clearance or clearing of
- 28:23Speaker 2: forest or trees in other areas that's due for development
- 28:27Speaker 2: to build your new BTOs or condos or whatsoever.
