Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Christopher Luxon has reason to smile this morning
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Chris Luxon has something to smile about this morning. Two
- 0:02Speaker 1: sets of data to cheer about, you could say. The
- 0:05Speaker 1: first is the pole. He seems to be, at least
- 0:08Speaker 1: from what I've seen, shaking off that slightly cringe Ceo
- 0:12Speaker 1: Monica that people had been labeling him as, cementing himself
- 0:16Speaker 1: as a man with a plan in charge across most
- 0:18Speaker 1: of the issues and not allowing himself to become distracted
- 0:20Speaker 1: by the inevitable noise that comes with running the ninth floor.
- 0:24Speaker 1: So this latest taxpayer's union carrier pole. The Nats are
- 0:27Speaker 1: up one point four to thirty nine percent. That's an
- 0:30Speaker 1: extra seat for them, no change for act in New
- 0:32Speaker 1: Zealand first grabbing an extra seat that is safe across
- 0:35Speaker 1: the line. The preferred PM numbers are interesting. Chippy's gone
- 0:39Speaker 1: off a cliff. The trend is down, and that's this
- 0:42Speaker 1: result in particular as a shocker. He's down six point
- 0:45Speaker 1: one points to twelve point six percent, Luxen thirty two
- 0:50Speaker 1: point seven percent, So Chippy is now almost within margin
- 0:54Speaker 1: of era, with not Luxen but Chloe on seven point
- 0:59Speaker 1: two percent. The other numbers, the NZII quarterly consensus start
- 1:03Speaker 1: we've been talking about not so great for us, at
- 1:05Speaker 1: least in the short term, a big fat zero GDP
- 1:08Speaker 1: growth in the year to March, which is depressing because
- 1:10Speaker 1: we've had almost two years of recession or close to
- 1:13Speaker 1: it now, and people just want to see the country
- 1:16Speaker 1: firing again. We want to see it spark, and that's
- 1:19Speaker 1: where Luxon will be happy to see this projection two
- 1:22Speaker 1: point two percent, that is growth expected in the year
- 1:26Speaker 1: to March twenty twenty six. And we know what else
- 1:29Speaker 1: is happening in twenty twenty six right an election, it's
- 1:32Speaker 1: humble two point two percent. It's not run away, but
- 1:35Speaker 1: after these past few years, it's like electoral fairy dust.
- 1:39Speaker 1: People don't generally vote on race relations, the politics of envy,
- 1:43Speaker 1: climate change. They vote basically on how rich they feel
- 1:48Speaker 1: and who might make them richer, and Luxeon, at least
- 1:52Speaker 1: on these numbers, would appear to have the upper hand
- 1:55Speaker 1: on that front. For more from News Talk SIB listen
