- 0:00Speaker 1: Ether chapter fourteen. And now there began to be a
- 0:05Speaker 1: great curse upon all the land, because of the iniquity
- 0:08Speaker 1: of the people, in which if a man should lay
- 0:11Speaker 1: his tool or his sword upon his shelf, or upon
- 0:14Speaker 1: the place whither he would keep it, behold upon the
- 0:17Speaker 1: morrow he could not find it. So great was the
- 0:20Speaker 1: curse upon the land. Wherefore every man did cleave unto
- 0:24Speaker 1: that which was his own with his hands, and would
- 0:27Speaker 1: not borrow, neither would he lend. And every man kept
- 0:31Speaker 1: the hilt of his sword in his right hand in
- 0:34Speaker 1: the defense of his property and his own life, and
- 0:37Speaker 1: of his wives and children. And now, after the space
- 0:41Speaker 1: of two years, and after the death of Shared behold
- 0:44Speaker 1: there arose the brother of Shared, and he gave battle
- 0:47Speaker 1: unto Chriantomer, in which Coriyantomer did beat him, and did
- 0:51Speaker 1: pursue him to the wilderness of Acish. And it came
- 0:55Speaker 1: to pass that the brother of Shared did give battle
- 0:58Speaker 1: unto him in the wilderness of Akish, and the battle
- 1:01Speaker 1: became exceedingly sore, and many thousands fell by the sword.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And it came to pass that Coriantomer did lay siege
- 1:09Speaker 1: to the wilderness, and the brother of Shared did march
- 1:12Speaker 1: forth out of the wilderness by night, and slew a
- 1:15Speaker 1: part of the army of Coriantomer as they were drunken.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And he came forth to the land of Morn and
- 1:21Speaker 1: placed himself upon the throne of Coriantomer. And it came
- 1:25Speaker 1: to pass that Coriantomer dwelt with his army in the
- 1:28Speaker 1: wilderness for the space of two years, in which he
- 1:31Speaker 1: did receive great strengths to his army. Now, the brother
- 1:35Speaker 1: of Shared, whose name was Gilead, also received great strengths
- 1:39Speaker 1: to his army because of secret combinations. And it came
- 1:42Speaker 1: to pass that his high priest murdered him as he
- 1:45Speaker 1: sat upon his throne. And it came to pass that
- 1:48Speaker 1: one of the secret combinations murdered him in a secret
- 1:51Speaker 1: pass and obtained unto himself the kingdom. And his name
- 1:55Speaker 1: was Lib. And Lib was a man of great stature,
- 1:59Speaker 1: more than any other man among all the people. And
- 2:02Speaker 1: it came to pass that in the first year of Lib,
- 2:04Speaker 1: Korantemer came up unto the land of Morun and gave
- 2:08Speaker 1: battle un to Lib. And it came to pass that
- 2:11Speaker 1: he fought with Lib, in which Lib did smite upon
- 2:14Speaker 1: his arm that he was wounded. Nevertheless, the army of
- 2:17Speaker 1: Koorantomer did press forward upon Lib, that he fled to
- 2:21Speaker 1: the borders upon the sea shore, and it came to
- 2:24Speaker 1: pass that Koreantemer pursued him, and Lib gave battle unto
- 2:28Speaker 1: him upon the sea shore. And it came to pass
- 2:31Speaker 1: that Lib did smite the army of Koorantomer, that they
- 2:34Speaker 1: fled again to the wilderness of Akish, And it came
- 2:38Speaker 1: to pass that Lib did pursue him until he came
- 2:41Speaker 1: to the plains of Agosh, and Koorantemer had taken all
- 2:45Speaker 1: the people with him as he fled before Lib in
- 2:47Speaker 1: that quarter of the land whither he fled, And when
- 2:50Speaker 1: he had come to the plains of Agosh, he gave
- 2:53Speaker 1: battle unto Lib, and he smote upon him until he died. Nevertheless,
- 2:58Speaker 1: the brother of Lib did come against Kriantomer in the
- 3:01Speaker 1: stead thereof, and the battle became exceedingly sore, in the
- 3:05Speaker 1: which Korantomer fled again before the army of the brother
- 3:09Speaker 1: of Lib. Now the name of the brother of Lib
- 3:12Speaker 1: was called Shiz, and it came to pass that Shiz
- 3:16Speaker 1: pursued after Coriantomer, and he did overthrow many cities and
- 3:20Speaker 1: he did slay both women and children, and he did
- 3:24Speaker 1: burn the cities. And there went a fear of Shiz
- 3:27Speaker 1: throughout all the land. Yea cry went forth throughout the land.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Who can stand before the army of Shiz? Behold, he
- 3:35Speaker 1: sweepeth the earth before him. And it came to pass
- 3:39Speaker 1: that the people began to flock together in armies throughout
- 3:42Speaker 1: all the face of the land. And they were divided,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and a part of them fled to the army of Shiz,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and a part of them fled to the army of Kriantomer.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And so great and lasting had been the war, and
- 3:55Speaker 1: so long had been the scene of bloodshed and carnage,
- 3:59Speaker 1: that the whole face of the land was covered with
- 4:01Speaker 1: the bodies of the dead. And so swift and speedy
- 4:05Speaker 1: was the war, that there was none left to bury
- 4:07Speaker 1: the dead. But they did march forth from the shedding
- 4:11Speaker 1: of blood to the shedding of blood, leaving the bodies
- 4:15Speaker 1: of both men, women and children strewn upon the face
- 4:19Speaker 1: of the land to become a prey to the worms
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the flesh. And the scent thereof went forth upon
- 4:26Speaker 1: the face of the land, even upon all the face
- 4:29Speaker 1: of the land. Wherefore the people became troubled by day
- 4:32Speaker 1: and by night because of the scent thereof. Nevertheless, Shias
- 4:38Speaker 1: did not cease to pursue Chriantemer, for he had sworn
- 4:41Speaker 1: to avenge himself upon Coriantomer of the blood of his
- 4:44Speaker 1: brother who had been slain, and the word of the
- 4:47Speaker 1: Lord which came to Ether that Coriantomer should not fall
- 4:51Speaker 1: by the sword. And thus we see that the Lord
- 4:54Speaker 1: did visit them in the fullness of his wrath, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: their wickedness and abominations had prepared a way for their
- 5:00Speaker 1: everlasting destruction. And it came to pass that Shiz did
- 5:04Speaker 1: pursue Coriantimer eastward, even to the borders by the sea shore,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and there he gave battle unto Shiz for the space
- 5:10Speaker 1: of three days. And so terrible was the destruction among
- 5:15Speaker 1: the armies of Shiz that the people began to be
- 5:17Speaker 1: frightened and began to flee before the armies of Koryantimer.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And they fled to the land of Korihor and swept
- 5:25Speaker 1: off the inhabitants before them, all them that would not
- 5:28Speaker 1: join them. And they pitched their tents in the valley
- 5:32Speaker 1: of Korihor, and Koryantmer pitched his tents in the valley
- 5:35Speaker 1: of Cher. Now the valley of Cher was near the
- 5:38Speaker 1: hill Comnor, wherefore Korantemer did gather his armies together upon
- 5:43Speaker 1: the hill Comnor, and did sound a trumpet unto the
- 5:47Speaker 1: armies of Shiz, to invite them forth to battle. And
- 5:51Speaker 1: it came to pass that they came forth, but were
- 5:54Speaker 1: driven again. And they came the second time, and they
- 5:57Speaker 1: were driven again the second time. And it came to
- 6:01Speaker 1: pass that they came again the third time, and the
- 6:03Speaker 1: battle became exceedingly sore. And it came to pass that
- 6:07Speaker 1: Schiz smote upon Coriantimer, that he gave him many deep wounds,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and Kriantomer, having lost his blood, fainted and was carried
- 6:15Speaker 1: away as though he were dead. Now, the loss of men,
- 6:19Speaker 1: women and children on both sides was so great that
- 6:23Speaker 1: Shiz commanded his people that they should not pursue the
- 6:26Speaker 1: armies of Coriantomer. Wherefore they returned to their camp Ether
- 6:33Speaker 1: Chapter fifteen. And it came to pass when Coriantimer had
- 6:37Speaker 1: recovered of his wounds, he began to remember the words
- 6:40Speaker 1: which Ether had spoken unto him. He saw that there
- 6:44Speaker 1: had been slain by the sword already nearly two millions
- 6:47Speaker 1: of his people, and he began to sorrow in his heart. Yea,
- 6:52Speaker 1: there had been slain two millions of the mighty men,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and also their wives and their children. He began to
- 6:59Speaker 1: repent of the evil which he had done. He began
- 7:02Speaker 1: to remember the words which had been spoken by the
- 7:04Speaker 1: mouth of all the prophets, and he saw them that
- 7:07Speaker 1: they were fulfilled thus far every whit and his soul
- 7:11Speaker 1: mourned and refused to be comforted. And it came to
- 7:15Speaker 1: pass that he wrote an epistle unto Shiz, desiring him
- 7:18Speaker 1: that he would spare the people, and he would give
- 7:21Speaker 1: up the kingdom for the sake of the lives of
- 7:23Speaker 1: the people. And it came to pass that when Shiz
- 7:26Speaker 1: had received his epistle, he wrote an epistle unto Kriantemer,
- 7:30Speaker 1: that if he would give himself up, that he might
- 7:33Speaker 1: slay him with his own sword, that he would spare
- 7:36Speaker 1: the lives of the people. And it came to pass
- 7:40Speaker 1: that the people repented not of their iniquity, and the
- 7:43Speaker 1: people of Korantomer were stirred up to anger against the
- 7:45Speaker 1: people of Shiz, and the people of Shiz were stirred
- 7:48Speaker 1: up to anger against the people of Koorantemer. Wherefore the
- 7:52Speaker 1: people of Shiz did give battle unto the people of Koreantomer.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And when Coriantemer saw that he was about to fall,
- 7:59Speaker 1: he fled again for the people of Shiz, and it
- 8:02Speaker 1: came to pass that he came to the waters of Ripliancum,
- 8:06Speaker 1: which by interpretation is large or to exceed all. Wherefore,
- 8:11Speaker 1: when he came to these waters, they pitched their tents,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and Shiz also pitched his tents near unto them. And
- 8:17Speaker 1: therefore on the morrow they did come to battle, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: it came to pass that they fought an exceedingly sore battle,
- 8:24Speaker 1: in which Coriantomer was wounded again, and he fainted with
- 8:27Speaker 1: the loss of blood. And it came to pass that
- 8:30Speaker 1: the armies of Kriantimer did press upon the armies of Shiz,
- 8:34Speaker 1: that they beat them, that they caused them to flee
- 8:36Speaker 1: before them, And they did flee southward, and did pitch
- 8:40Speaker 1: their tents in a place which was called Ogath. And
- 8:44Speaker 1: it came to pass that the army of Kriantimer did
- 8:46Speaker 1: pitch their tents by the hill Ramah. And it was
- 8:49Speaker 1: that same hill where my father Mormon did hide up
- 8:51Speaker 1: the records unto the Lord, which were sacred. And it
- 8:55Speaker 1: came to pass that they did gather together all the
- 8:57Speaker 1: people upon all the face of the land, who had
- 8:59Speaker 1: not and slain save it was Ether, and it came
- 9:03Speaker 1: to pass that Ether did behold all the doings of
- 9:05Speaker 1: the people, and he beheld that the people who were
- 9:08Speaker 1: for Coriantomer were gathered together to the army of Coriantomer,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and the people who were for Shiz were gathered together
- 9:15Speaker 1: to the army of Shiz. Wherefore they were for the
- 9:18Speaker 1: space of four years gathering together the people, that they
- 9:21Speaker 1: might get all who were upon the face of the land,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and that they might receive all the strength which it
- 9:27Speaker 1: was possible that they could receive. And it came to
- 9:30Speaker 1: pass that when they were all gathered together, every one
- 9:33Speaker 1: to the army which he would, with their wives and
- 9:35Speaker 1: their children, both men, women and children, being armed with
- 9:39Speaker 1: weapons of war, having shields and breastplates and head plates,
- 9:43Speaker 1: and being clothed after the manner of war, they did
- 9:46Speaker 1: march forth one against another to battle. And they fought
- 9:50Speaker 1: all that day and conquered not. And it came to
- 9:54Speaker 1: pass that when it was night, they were weary and
- 9:57Speaker 1: retired to their camps. And after they had retired to
- 10:00Speaker 1: their camps, they took up a howling and a lamentation
- 10:02Speaker 1: for the loss of the slain of their people. And
- 10:06Speaker 1: so great were their cries, their howlings and lamentations, that
- 10:09Speaker 1: they did rend the air exceedingly. And it came to
- 10:13Speaker 1: pass that on the morrow they did go again to battle,
- 10:16Speaker 1: And great and terrible was that day. Nevertheless, they conquered not,
- 10:21Speaker 1: And when the night came again, they did rend the
- 10:23Speaker 1: air with their cries and their howlings and their mournings
- 10:26Speaker 1: for the loss of the slain of their people. And
- 10:29Speaker 1: it came to pass that Coriantumer rode again an epistle
- 10:32Speaker 1: unto Shiz, desiring that he would not come again to battle,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but that he would take the kingdom and spare the
- 10:37Speaker 1: lives of the people. And behold, the spirit of the
- 10:40Speaker 1: Lord had ceased striving with them, and Satan had full
- 10:44Speaker 1: power over the hearts of the people, for they were
- 10:47Speaker 1: given up unto the hardness of their hearts and the
- 10:49Speaker 1: blindness of their minds, that they might be destroyed. Wherefore
- 10:54Speaker 1: they went again to battle, and it came to pass
- 10:56Speaker 1: that they fought all that day, and when the night came,
- 10:59Speaker 1: they slept upon their swords, and on the morrow they
- 11:02Speaker 1: fought even until the night came. And when the night came,
- 11:06Speaker 1: they were drunken with anger, even as a man who
- 11:09Speaker 1: was drunken with wine. And they slept again upon their swords.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And on the morrow they fought again. And when the
- 11:16Speaker 1: night came, they had all fallen by the sword save
- 11:19Speaker 1: it were fifty and two of the people of Coriantemer
- 11:22Speaker 1: and sixty and nine of the people of Shiz. And
- 11:26Speaker 1: it came to pass that they slept upon their swords
- 11:28Speaker 1: that night, and on the morrow they fought again, and
- 11:31Speaker 1: they contended in their might with their swords and with
- 11:34Speaker 1: their shields all that day. And when the night came,
- 11:37Speaker 1: there were thirty and two of the people of Shias
- 11:40Speaker 1: and twenty and seven of the people of Coriantimer. And
- 11:43Speaker 1: it came to pass that they ate and slept and
- 11:45Speaker 1: prepared for death on the morrow. And they were large
- 11:49Speaker 1: and mighty men, as to the strength of men. And
- 11:52Speaker 1: it came to pass that they fought for the space
- 11:54Speaker 1: of three hours, and they fainted with the loss of blood.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And it came to pass that when the men of
- 12:00Speaker 1: Coriantmer had received sufficient strength that they could walk, they
- 12:03Speaker 1: were about to flee for their lives. But behold, Shiz
- 12:07Speaker 1: arose and also his men, and he swore in his
- 12:09Speaker 1: wrath that he would slay Coriantemer, or he would perish
- 12:12Speaker 1: by the sword. Wherefore he did pursue them, and on
- 12:16Speaker 1: the morrow he did overtake them, and they fought again
- 12:19Speaker 1: with the sword. And it came to pass that when
- 12:21Speaker 1: they had all fallen by the sword, save it were
- 12:24Speaker 1: Coriantemer and Shiz. Behold, Shiz had fainted with the loss
- 12:28Speaker 1: of blood. And it came to pass that when Coriantimer
- 12:31Speaker 1: had leaned upon his sword, that he rested a little.
- 12:35Speaker 1: He smote off the head of Shiz. And it came
- 12:38Speaker 1: to pass that after he had smitten off the head
- 12:40Speaker 1: of Shiz, that Shiz raised upon his hands and fell.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And after that he had struggled for breath, he died.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And it came to pass that Coriantomer fell to the
- 12:51Speaker 1: earth and became as if he had no life. And
- 12:56Speaker 1: the Lord spake nto ether and said unto him, go forth.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And he went forth, and beheld that the words of
- 13:04Speaker 1: the Lord had all been fulfilled. And he finished his record,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and the hundredth part I have not written, and he
- 13:13Speaker 1: hid them in a manner that the people of Limnhi
- 13:15Speaker 1: did find them. Now the last words which are written
- 13:18Speaker 1: by Ether are these, Whether the Lord will suffer that
- 13:22Speaker 1: I be translated, or that I suffer the will of
- 13:25Speaker 1: the Lord in the flesh, It mattereth not, if it
- 13:28Speaker 1: so be that I am saved in the Kingdom of God,
- 13:31Speaker 1: Amen Moroni. Chapter one. Now I Marona, after having made
- 13:38Speaker 1: an end of abridging the account of the people of Jared,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I had supposed not to have written more. But I
- 13:45Speaker 1: have not as yet perished. And I make not myself
- 13:49Speaker 1: known to the Lamanites, lest they should destroy me. For behold,
- 13:53Speaker 1: their wars are exceedingly fierce among themselves, and because of
- 13:57Speaker 1: their hatred they put to death every nephight that will
- 14:01Speaker 1: not deny the Christ. And I Moron, I will not
- 14:05Speaker 1: deny the Christ. Wherefore I wander whithersoever I can, for
- 14:10Speaker 1: the safety of mine own life. Wherefore I write a
- 14:13Speaker 1: few more things contrary to that which I had supposed,
- 14:17Speaker 1: For I had supposed not to have written any more.
- 14:21Speaker 1: But I write a few more things, that perhaps they
- 14:24Speaker 1: may be of worth unto my brethren, the Lamanites in
- 14:26Speaker 1: some future day, according to the will of the Lord
- 14:32Speaker 1: Moroni chapter two. The words of Christ which he spake
- 14:36Speaker 1: unto his disciples, the twelve whom he had chosen, as
- 14:39Speaker 1: he laid his hands upon them, and he called them
- 14:42Speaker 1: by name, saying, ye shall call on the Father in
- 14:45Speaker 1: my name in mighty prayer. And after ye have done this,
- 14:49Speaker 1: ye shall have power that to him upon whom ye
- 14:52Speaker 1: shall lay your hands, ye shall give the Holy Ghost.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And in My name shall ye give it. For thus
- 14:59Speaker 1: do mine appon bustles. Now Christ spake these words unto
- 15:03Speaker 1: them at the time of his first appearing, And the
- 15:07Speaker 1: multitude heard it not, but the disciples heard it, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: on as many as they laid their hands fell the
- 15:14Speaker 1: Holy Ghost. Maroni chapter three. The manner which the disciples,
- 15:21Speaker 1: who were called the elders of the Church, ordained priests
- 15:24Speaker 1: and teachers. After they had prayed unto the Father in
- 15:27Speaker 1: the name of Christ. They laid their hands upon them
- 15:31Speaker 1: and said, in the name of Jesus Christ, I ordain
- 15:35Speaker 1: you to be a priest or, if he be a teacher,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I ordain you to be a teacher to preach repentance
- 15:43Speaker 1: and remission of sins through Jesus Christ by the endurance
- 15:46Speaker 1: of faith on his name to the end. Amen. And
- 15:50Speaker 1: after this manner did they ordain priests and teachers according
- 15:53Speaker 1: to the gifts and callings of God unto men. And
- 15:57Speaker 1: they ordained them by the power of the Holy Ghost
- 16:00Speaker 1: which was in them. Maroni chapter four. The manner of
- 16:05Speaker 1: their elders and priests administering the flesh and blood of
- 16:09Speaker 1: Christ unto the Church. And they administered it according to
- 16:12Speaker 1: the commandments of Christ. Wherefore we know the manner to
- 16:17Speaker 1: be true, and the elder or priest administer it. And
- 16:22Speaker 1: they did kneel down with the church and pray to
- 16:24Speaker 1: the Father in the name of Christ, saying, O God,
- 16:29Speaker 1: the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of
- 16:32Speaker 1: thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread
- 16:37Speaker 1: to the souls of all those who partake of it,
- 16:40Speaker 1: that they may eat in remembrance of the body of
- 16:44Speaker 1: thy Son, and witness unto THEE O God, the Eternal Father,
- 16:49Speaker 1: that they are willing to take upon them the name
- 16:52Speaker 1: of thy Son, and always remember Him and keep his
- 16:55Speaker 1: commandments which he hath given them, that they may always
- 16:59Speaker 1: have His spear to be with them. Amen. Moroni chapter five.
- 17:06Speaker 1: The manner of administering the wine. Behold, they took the
- 17:10Speaker 1: cup and said, O, God, the Eternal Father, we ask
- 17:16Speaker 1: THEE in the name of thy son, Jesus Christ, to
- 17:19Speaker 1: bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all
- 17:22Speaker 1: those who drink of it, that they may do it
- 17:25Speaker 1: in remembrance of the blood of thy Son which was
- 17:28Speaker 1: shed for them, that they may witness unto THEE, O God,
- 17:31Speaker 1: the Eternal Father, that they do always remember Him, that
- 17:35Speaker 1: they may have His spirit to be with them. Amen. Maroni.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Chapter six. And now I speak concerning baptism. Behold, elders, priests,
- 17:48Speaker 1: and teachers were baptized, And they were not baptized, save
- 17:52Speaker 1: they brought forth fruit to meet, that they were worthy
- 17:55Speaker 1: of it. Neither did they receive any unto baptism save
- 17:59Speaker 1: them they came forth with a broken heart and a
- 18:02Speaker 1: contrite spirit, and witnessed unto the Church that they truly
- 18:06Speaker 1: repented of all their sins. And none were received unto baptism,
- 18:11Speaker 1: save they took upon them the name of Christ, having
- 18:15Speaker 1: a determination to serve him to the end. And after
- 18:19Speaker 1: they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon
- 18:22Speaker 1: and cleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost, they
- 18:25Speaker 1: were numbered among the people of the Church of Christ,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and their names were taken that they might be remembered
- 18:32Speaker 1: and nourished by the good word of God, to keep
- 18:35Speaker 1: them in the right way, to keep them continually watchful
- 18:38Speaker 1: unto prayer, relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who
- 18:43Speaker 1: was the author and the finisher of their faith. And
- 18:47Speaker 1: the Church did meet together oft too, fast and to pray,
- 18:51Speaker 1: and to speak one with another concerning the welfare of
- 18:53Speaker 1: their souls. And they did meet together oft to partake
- 18:58Speaker 1: of bread and wine and rema remembrance of the Lord Jesus.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And they were strict to observe that there should be
- 19:04Speaker 1: no iniquity among them. And whoso was found to commit iniquity,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and three witnesses of the Church did condemn them before
- 19:12Speaker 1: the elders. And if they repented not and confessed not,
- 19:17Speaker 1: their names were blotted out. And they were not numbered
- 19:21Speaker 1: among the people of Christ. But as oft as they
- 19:24Speaker 1: repented and sought forgiveness with real intent, they were forgiven.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And their meetings were conducted by the Church after the
- 19:33Speaker 1: manner of the workings of the Spirit, and by the
- 19:35Speaker 1: power of the Holy Ghost. For as the power of
- 19:38Speaker 1: the Holy Ghost led them, whether to preach or to exhort,
- 19:43Speaker 1: or to pray, or to supplicate, or to sing. Even
- 19:46Speaker 1: so it was done Maronae chapter seven. And now I, Maronae,
- 19:53Speaker 1: write a few of the words of my father Mormon,
- 19:55Speaker 1: which he spake concerning faith, hope, and charity. For after
- 19:59Speaker 1: the this manner did he speak unto the people, as
- 20:02Speaker 1: he taught them in the synagogue which they had built
- 20:04Speaker 1: for the place of worship. And now I, Mormon, speak
- 20:08Speaker 1: unto you, my beloved brethren. And it is by the
- 20:10Speaker 1: grace of God, the Father and our Lord, Jesus Christ,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and his Holy Will, because of the gift of His
- 20:16Speaker 1: calling unto me, that I am permitted to speak unto
- 20:18Speaker 1: you at this time. Wherefore I would speak unto you
- 20:23Speaker 1: that are of the Church, that are the peaceable followers
- 20:26Speaker 1: of Christ, and that have obtained a sufficient hope by
- 20:29Speaker 1: which ye can enter into the rest of the Lord
- 20:32Speaker 1: from this time henceforth until ye shall rest with Him
- 20:34Speaker 1: in Heaven. And now, my brethren, I judge these things
- 20:37Speaker 1: of you because of your peaceable walk with the children
- 20:41Speaker 1: of men. For I remember the word of God which saith.
- 20:45Speaker 1: By their works, ye shall know them. For if their
- 20:48Speaker 1: works be good, then they are good. Also. For behold,
- 20:51Speaker 1: God hath said, a man being evil cannot do that
- 20:55Speaker 1: which is good. For if he offereth a gift, or
- 20:58Speaker 1: prayeth unto God, except he shall do it with real intent,
- 21:01Speaker 1: it profiteth him nothing. For behold, it is not counted
- 21:05Speaker 1: unto him for righteousness. For Behold, if a man being
- 21:09Speaker 1: evil giveth a gift, he doeth it grudgingly, Wherefore it
- 21:13Speaker 1: is counted unto him, the same as if he had
- 21:15Speaker 1: retained the gift. Wherefore he is counted evil before God.
- 21:20Speaker 1: And likewise also it is counted evil unto man if
- 21:23Speaker 1: he shall pray and not with real intent of heart. Yea,
- 21:27Speaker 1: and it profiteth him nothing. For God receiveth none such.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Wherefore a man being evil cannot do that which is good,
- 21:34Speaker 1: neither will he give a good gift. For behold, a
- 21:38Speaker 1: bitter fountain cannot bring forth good water. Neither can a
- 21:42Speaker 1: good fountain bring forth bitter water. Wherefore a man being
- 21:46Speaker 1: a servant of the devil cannot follow Christ. And if
- 21:50Speaker 1: he follow Christ, he cannot be a servant of the devil. Wherefore,
- 21:54Speaker 1: all things which are good cometh of God, and that
- 21:57Speaker 1: which is evil cometh of the devil. For the devil
- 22:00Speaker 1: is an enemy unto God, and fighteth against him continually,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and inviteth and entices to sin and to do that
- 22:07Speaker 1: which is evil continually. But behold, that which is of
- 22:11Speaker 1: God inviteth and entice us to do good continually. Wherefore,
- 22:16Speaker 1: everything which inviteth and enticeth to do good and to
- 22:20Speaker 1: love God and to serve Him, is inspired of God. Wherefore,
- 22:24Speaker 1: take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge
- 22:27Speaker 1: that which is evil to be of God, or that
- 22:29Speaker 1: which is good and of God to be of the devil.
- 22:33Speaker 1: For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge,
- 22:36Speaker 1: that ye may know good from evil. And the way
- 22:39Speaker 1: to judge is as plain, that ye may know with
- 22:41Speaker 1: a perfect knowledge, as the daylight is from the dark night.
- 22:45Speaker 1: For behold, the spirit of Christ is given to every
- 22:47Speaker 1: man that he may know good from evil. Wherefore I
- 22:51Speaker 1: show unto you the way to judge. For everything which
- 22:54Speaker 1: invite us to do good and to persuade to believe
- 22:57Speaker 1: in Christ is sent forth by the power and gift
- 23:01Speaker 1: of Christ. Wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge
- 23:05Speaker 1: it is of God. But whatsoever thing persuadeth man to
- 23:09Speaker 1: do evil and believe not in Christ, and deny Him
- 23:12Speaker 1: and serve not God, then ye may know with a
- 23:14Speaker 1: perfect knowledge it is of the devil. For after this
- 23:18Speaker 1: manner doth the devil work. For he persuadeth no man
- 23:22Speaker 1: to do good. Know not one. Neither do his angels.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Neither do they who subject themselves unto him. And now,
- 23:30Speaker 1: my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which
- 23:33Speaker 1: ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ,
- 23:37Speaker 1: see that ye do not judge wrongfully, For with that
- 23:40Speaker 1: same judgment which ye judge, ye shall also be judged.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Wherefore I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search
- 23:48Speaker 1: diligently in the light of Christ, that ye may know
- 23:52Speaker 1: good from evil. And if ye will lay hold upon
- 23:55Speaker 1: every good thing and condemn it not, ye certainly will
- 23:59Speaker 1: be a child of Christ. And now, my brethren, how
- 24:04Speaker 1: is it possible that ye can lay hold upon every
- 24:06Speaker 1: good thing? And now I come to that faith of
- 24:10Speaker 1: which I said I would speak, And I will tell
- 24:13Speaker 1: you the way whereby ye may lay hold on every
- 24:16Speaker 1: good thing. For behold, God knoweth all things, being from
- 24:20Speaker 1: everlasting to everlasting. Behold, he sent angels to minister unto
- 24:24Speaker 1: the children of men to make manifest concerning the coming
- 24:28Speaker 1: of Christ. And in Christ there should come every good thing.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And God also declareth unto prophets, by his own mouth,
- 24:35Speaker 1: that Christ should come. And behold, there were diverse ways
- 24:40Speaker 1: that He did manifest things unto the children of men
- 24:43Speaker 1: which were good, and all things which are good cometh
- 24:46Speaker 1: of Christ. Otherwise men were fallen, and there could no
- 24:50Speaker 1: good thing come unto them. Wherefore, by the ministering of
- 24:54Speaker 1: angels and by every word which precedeth forth out of
- 24:57Speaker 1: the mouth of God, men began to exercise faith in Christ.
- 25:01Speaker 1: And thus by faith they did lay hold upon every
- 25:05Speaker 1: good thing. And thus it was until the coming of Christ.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And after that he came, men also were saved by
- 25:12Speaker 1: faith in His name. And by faith they become the
- 25:16Speaker 1: sons of God. And as sure as Christ liveth He
- 25:20Speaker 1: spake these words unto our fathers, saying, whatsoever thing ye
- 25:24Speaker 1: shall ask the Father in my name, which is good,
- 25:28Speaker 1: in faith, believing that ye shall receive, Behold, it shall
- 25:31Speaker 1: be done unto you. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Because Christ hath ascended into heaven, and hath sat down
- 25:39Speaker 1: on the right hand of God. To claim of the
- 25:42Speaker 1: Father his rights of mercy, which he hath upon the
- 25:45Speaker 1: children of men. For he hath answered the ends of
- 25:48Speaker 1: the law, and he claimeth all those who have faith
- 25:51Speaker 1: in Him, and they who have faith in Him will
- 25:53Speaker 1: cleave unto every good thing. Wherefore he advocateth the cause
- 25:58Speaker 1: of the children of men, and he dwelleth eternally in
- 26:00Speaker 1: the heavens. And because he has done this, my beloved brethren,
- 26:04Speaker 1: have miracles ceased. Behold, they say unto you. Nay, neither
- 26:08Speaker 1: have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men.
- 26:12Speaker 1: For behold, they are subject unto Him, to minister according
- 26:15Speaker 1: to the word of His command, showing themselves unto them
- 26:18Speaker 1: of strong faith and a firm mind in every form
- 26:21Speaker 1: of godliness. And the office of their ministry is to
- 26:25Speaker 1: call men unto repentance and to fulfill and to do
- 26:30Speaker 1: the work of the covenance of the Father, which he
- 26:33Speaker 1: hath made unto the children of men. To prepare the
- 26:36Speaker 1: way among the children of men by declaring the word
- 26:39Speaker 1: of Christ unto the chosen vessels of the Lord, that
- 26:43Speaker 1: they may bear testimony of Him. And by so doing
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Lord God prepareth the way that the residue of
- 26:51Speaker 1: men may have faith in Christ, that the Holy Ghost
- 26:54Speaker 1: may have place in their hearts according to the power thereof.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And after this manner, bringeth to pass as the Father
- 27:00Speaker 1: the covenance which he hath made unto the children of men.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And Christ hath said, if ye will have faith in me,
- 27:09Speaker 1: ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient
- 27:12Speaker 1: in me. And he hath said, repent, all ye ends
- 27:16Speaker 1: of the earth, and come unto me, and be baptized
- 27:19Speaker 1: in my name, and have faith in Me, that ye
- 27:21Speaker 1: may be saved. And Now, my beloved brethren, if this
- 27:25Speaker 1: be the case, that these things are true, which I
- 27:28Speaker 1: have spoken unto you, and God will show unto you
- 27:31Speaker 1: with power and great glory at the last day, that
- 27:34Speaker 1: they are true. And if they are true, has the
- 27:37Speaker 1: day of miracles ceased? Or have angels ceased to appear
- 27:41Speaker 1: unto the children of men? Or has He withheld the
- 27:44Speaker 1: power of the Holy Ghost from them? Or will he
- 27:48Speaker 1: so long as time shall last, or the earth shall stand,
- 27:52Speaker 1: or there shall be one man upon the face thereof
- 27:54Speaker 1: to be saved. Behold, I say unto you nay, for
- 27:58Speaker 1: it is by faith that miracles are wrought. And it
- 28:02Speaker 1: is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men. Wherefore,
- 28:06Speaker 1: if these things have ceased, woe be unto the children
- 28:09Speaker 1: of men, for it is because of unbelief, and all
- 28:12Speaker 1: is vain. For no man can be saved according to
- 28:16Speaker 1: the words of Christ, save they shall have faith in
- 28:19Speaker 1: His name. Wherefore, if these things have ceased, then has
- 28:23Speaker 1: faith ceased also? And awful is the state of man,
- 28:27Speaker 1: for they are as though there had been no redemption made.
- 28:32Speaker 1: But behold, my beloved brethren, I judge better things of you,
- 28:36Speaker 1: for I judge that ye have faith in Christ because
- 28:38Speaker 1: of your meekness. For if ye have not faith in Him,
- 28:42Speaker 1: then ye are not fit to be numbered among the
- 28:44Speaker 1: people of His church. And again, my beloved brethren, I
- 28:48Speaker 1: would speak unto you concerning hope. How is it that
- 28:51Speaker 1: ye can attain unto faith? Save ye shall have hope?
- 28:55Speaker 1: And what is it ye shall hope? For behold, I
- 28:58Speaker 1: say unto you, that ye shall have hope through the
- 29:01Speaker 1: atonement of Christ and the power of His resurrection, to
- 29:05Speaker 1: be raised unto life eternal. And this because of your
- 29:09Speaker 1: faith in Him, according to the promise. Wherefore, if a
- 29:13Speaker 1: man have faith, he must needs have hope, for without
- 29:17Speaker 1: faith there cannot be any hope. And again behold, I
- 29:21Speaker 1: say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope
- 29:25Speaker 1: save he shall be meek and lowly of heart. If
- 29:28Speaker 1: so his faith and hope is vain, For none is
- 29:31Speaker 1: acceptable before God, save the meek and lowly in heart.
- 29:35Speaker 1: And if a man be meek and lowly in heart
- 29:38Speaker 1: and confesses, by the power of the Holy Ghost, that
- 29:41Speaker 1: Jesus is the Christ, he must needs have charity. For
- 29:47Speaker 1: if he have not charity, he is nothing. Wherefore he
- 29:51Speaker 1: must needs have charity. For charity suffereth long, and is kind,
- 29:57Speaker 1: and envieth not, and is not puff up. Seeketh not
- 30:01Speaker 1: her own is not easily provoked. Thinketh no evil, and
- 30:05Speaker 1: rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth. Beareth
- 30:09Speaker 1: all things, believeth all things, hopeth, all things, endureth all things. Wherefore,
- 30:16Speaker 1: my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing.
- 30:20Speaker 1: For charity never faileth. Wherefore cleave unto charity, which is
- 30:26Speaker 1: the greatest of all, for all things must fail. But
- 30:29Speaker 1: charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And whoso has found possessed of it. At the last day,
- 30:37Speaker 1: it shall be well with him. Wherefore, my beloved brethren,
- 30:42Speaker 1: pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart,
- 30:45Speaker 1: that ye may be filled with this love which he
- 30:48Speaker 1: hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his
- 30:51Speaker 1: son Jesus Christ, that ye may become the sons of God,
- 30:56Speaker 1: that when he shall appear, we shall be like him,
- 31:00Speaker 1: for we shall see him as he is, that we
- 31:02Speaker 1: may have this hope, that we may be purified even
- 31:06Speaker 1: as He is pure. Amen and of Ether chapters fourteen
- 31:12Speaker 1: through fifteen, and Moroni chapters one through seven.
