- 0:02Speaker 1: College football with Stu Gatz and the Bear.
- 0:05Speaker 2: And, of course, everyone knows the exact right time to
- 0:08Speaker 2: start a college football show is week four of the
- 0:11Speaker 2: college football season.
- 0:12Speaker 3: There's T-Bob again.
- 0:13Speaker 1: That's right. Special guest. Glad to be back, guys. Love
- 0:17Speaker 1: coming to hang out with Stu Gatz and the Bear.
- 0:19Speaker 1: College football.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Mario Cristobal, head coach at the University of Miami. Thank
- 0:24Speaker 3: you for joining us.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I just don't find any value in it.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Humans, like, just spewing diarrhea out of their mouth.
- 0:30Speaker 1: With Stu Gotts.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I can give a rat's fat ass about what he
- 0:33Speaker 4: says or does.
- 0:34Speaker 3: And the Bear.
- 0:35Speaker 4: The Bear is awesome.
- 0:37Speaker 1: You're listening to College Football with Stu Gotts and the Bear.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Coming off a big college football weekend, it is College
- 0:45Speaker 2: Football with Stu Gotts and Bear. And our guest, yet again,
- 0:48Speaker 2: is T-Bob. And I have to be honest with you, T-Bob,
- 0:51Speaker 2: I enjoyed, and I think the rest of the country enjoys,
- 0:54Speaker 2: watching Lane Kiffin lose the way Lane Kiffin lost on
- 0:58Speaker 2: Saturday night.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:00Speaker 1: So here we go. Here we go. Starts early today,
- 1:04Speaker 1: doesn't it, guys? I mean, yeah, let's talk LSU-Kentucky to
- 1:08Speaker 1: start the show. When we had Georgia-Alabama this weekend, we
- 1:13Speaker 1: had the number one team in the country going down.
- 1:15Speaker 1: But sure, let's talk Lane and LSU. What do you
- 1:18Speaker 1: want to say, Stu? Get it off your chest.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I love Will Stein. I'm a Will Lever. How about that? Ooh, yes.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I like Stein, too.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Oh, I love him.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We had him on Wub last week, and unfortunately, I
- 1:30Speaker 1: wished him best of luck this weekend after the interview.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I wish I'd have done that, because look at what happened.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Hoisted on my own batard. I mean, look, you know what?
- 1:38Speaker 1: We're here. So thanks, Stu. Since you did that, we're
- 1:41Speaker 1: going to start. LSU, Kentucky. How about that?
- 1:43Speaker 3: I have a question for you.
- 1:44Speaker 2: If Kentucky, if Will Stein calls LSU and says, and
- 1:49Speaker 2: Kentucky calls LSU and says, hey, we'll give you Will
- 1:52Speaker 2: Stein for Lane Kiffin.
- 1:53Speaker 3: What does LSU say today?
- 1:56Speaker 4: No, no, no, no.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Guys, we cannot be so reactive.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yes, we can.
- 2:00Speaker 1: To the small sample. Okay. I do agree with the
- 2:04Speaker 1: idea that is going around. I think it is spot on.
- 2:07Speaker 1: At a day and age, where we witnessed Will Stein
- 2:10Speaker 1: do what Kentucky just did in back-to-back weeks, and we
- 2:13Speaker 1: witnessed what Bob Chesney is doing at UCLA, beating Oregon
- 2:17Speaker 1: State undefeated, now minus odds to make the playoff. There
- 2:21Speaker 1: are no excuses for timeline. There can be resource excuses
- 2:26Speaker 1: for But there are no excuses for timeline. Unfortunately, Lane
- 2:29Speaker 1: Kiffin does not have said resource excuse. So I'll be
- 2:34Speaker 1: unequivocally clear for all you dolts out there, Stu Chief
- 2:38Speaker 1: among them. If Lane Kiffin does not make the college
- 2:42Speaker 1: football playoff, it is a failure of a season. Bottom line.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Full stop. It doesn't mean I don't think he won't
- 2:50Speaker 1: make the playoff in the future. It doesn't mean I
- 2:53Speaker 1: don't think that he's a good person for the job still.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But again, unequivocally, if LSU does not make the playoff,
- 2:59Speaker 1: of which 99% sure they will not, then it is
- 3:03Speaker 1: a bad year. Because there are no excuses, and LSU
- 3:05Speaker 1: has $ 50 million poured into the roster. So they have
- 3:08Speaker 1: to be doing better than losing on the road to
- 3:11Speaker 1: Kentucky against a very good Kentucky team, a fun Will
- 3:13Speaker 1: Stein team. But yeah, it was bad. And yeah, everybody
- 3:16Speaker 1: hates us. Everybody hates.
- 3:21Speaker 4: You're right, though, because you've got JMU Bloomington, you've got
- 3:24Speaker 4: JMU Pasadena, and you've got JMU, like all the quick
- 3:30Speaker 4: turnaround rebuilds. The whole Lincoln rally, this is year five.
- 3:34Speaker 4: We finally are getting to where we need to be.
- 3:36Speaker 4: That shit don't fly no more. Clearly, if you get
- 3:40Speaker 4: the right schedule and you hit on your transfers and
- 3:44Speaker 4: you hit on your hire, you hit on your resources,
- 3:47Speaker 4: you got money people, you can absolutely do this In
- 3:52Speaker 4: year one.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yep.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Bear, what'd you make of, we think T-Bob froze here.
- 3:56Speaker 2: We'll try to get him reconnected here. He was so
- 3:58Speaker 2: upset that we went right after Lane Kiffin and LSU.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I'm not certain if he quit the show or not.
- 4:03Speaker 2: What'd you make of, Mikey, what happened there?
- 4:06Speaker 3: You said we, like I did it and Bear did it.
- 4:10Speaker 4: No, no, no, no.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You went after Lane Kiffin and LSU.
- 4:14Speaker 4: It was just like a.
- 4:16Speaker 2: All I'm saying is Brian Kelly could have done that.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'll say that while T-Bob's not here.
- 4:21Speaker 3: But come on, Mikey.
- 4:22Speaker 2: You took some delight in Lane Kiffin losing to Kentucky
- 4:25Speaker 2: a basketball school.
- 4:26Speaker 3: No?
- 4:27Speaker 4: They are clearly in a difficult spot now, I'm sure.
- 4:31Speaker 4: It is a very cesspoolish type atmosphere down there. I'm
- 4:37Speaker 4: sure the fans are. The one thing I love about LSU,
- 4:40Speaker 4: I think I mentioned this to T-Bob as well. The
- 4:43Speaker 4: thing I love about LSU fans is is they are
- 4:46Speaker 4: brutally honest. Like, when they are good, they will tell
- 4:50Speaker 4: you they are good. When they are bad, they will
- 4:53Speaker 4: tell you they are bad, and they will shit on
- 4:55Speaker 4: their coach, they will shit on this. They are incredibly honest,
- 4:59Speaker 4: and I am sure that they are as angry and
- 5:03Speaker 4: upset with the tatter realism in there as Kebab is
- 5:07Speaker 4: right now. But at least they have a game this
- 5:10Speaker 4: week against Mississippi State, who's got a number in front
- 5:14Speaker 4: of their name, a ranked team to kind of get
- 5:17Speaker 4: them off the mat. You look at the schedule the
- 5:20Speaker 4: rest of the way, the path to a playoff is
- 5:22Speaker 4: still there. You can still go 10-2, even though I
- 5:26Speaker 4: don't know how many people would think they are going
- 5:28Speaker 4: to win out, but the potential is still there. So
- 5:32Speaker 4: as long as, that's the thing in college football now.
- 5:35Speaker 4: If you are Oregon or LSU or, a team that
- 5:41Speaker 4: you are expecting to Penn State last year, Clemson last year,
- 5:45Speaker 4: a team that is expecting to make the playoff, and
- 5:48Speaker 4: you pick up loss number two, loss number three, and
- 5:50Speaker 4: those goals of winning a title and making the playoff
- 5:54Speaker 4: are gone. Like, what happens then? Like, that's what I
- 5:58Speaker 4: would be worried about if LSU does lose another game. Like,
- 6:02Speaker 4: what happens then?
- 6:04Speaker 2: T-Bob is back with us now. While you were gone,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I said Brian Kelly could do what Lane Kiffin is doing.
- 6:09Speaker 2: But let's get off of LSU here and get to
- 6:11Speaker 2: the games that most people want to talk about.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma. T-Bob, take us away here. Go ahead.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And real quick, Kentucky's not a basketball school anymore.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Everybody's a basketball school until they sup from the cup
- 6:25Speaker 1: of football success. Make no mistake. I called them Indiana 2.0.
- 6:30Speaker 1: They're a football school.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 6:32Speaker 1: All right. Georgia, Alabama.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Super heavyweight matchup. And, I mean, boys, it delivered.
- 6:39Speaker 3: All counts.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I mean, Georgia trails for the first time on the
- 6:43Speaker 1: entire year due to a zero seconds on the clock
- 6:47Speaker 1: run play from the one to score a touchdown. I mean,
- 6:50Speaker 1: this is all type of stuff. Bear, what I want
- 6:53Speaker 1: to highlight though, Keelan Russell was fantastic, but in the end,
- 6:57Speaker 1: The difference in this game to me was Gunnar Stockton's experience,
- 7:02Speaker 1: which statistically showed up on third down. He goes 10
- 7:07Speaker 1: of 11 for over 100 yards, six first downs, zero
- 7:12Speaker 1: sacks on third down. Do you know how hard that
- 7:14Speaker 1: is against that Alabama defense in that environment? So the
- 7:18Speaker 1: experience factor for Gunnar Stockton reigning supreme here.
- 7:22Speaker 4: And that's the thing with a quarterback with experience. everything
- 7:27Speaker 4: moves so fast. And what you, what you mentioned about
- 7:30Speaker 4: Keelan is absolutely correct. He is going, you see the ability,
- 7:34Speaker 4: you see the potential greatness, but still at times there's
- 7:38Speaker 4: that little bit of hesitation where it calls you a
- 7:41Speaker 4: half a second to think with gutter. It's ABC, boom, boom, boom, progress, progress, progress.
- 7:47Speaker 4: And you're Keelan. It's still okay. Run through. And that
- 7:50Speaker 4: ultimately wasn't like, look, full, full disclosure here. I am
- 7:56Speaker 4: mad at Delta airlines and it hurts me to say,
- 8:00Speaker 4: because I am getting close to 2 million miles on there.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Unless they want to sponsor the show, of course.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Right. Yes.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Then we love Delta.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I would love Delta.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It'd be a good make good.
- 8:09Speaker 4: I would love Delta to sponsor the show. So, but,
- 8:12Speaker 4: but I was a little upset with my flight home
- 8:15Speaker 4: from Detroit on Saturday night, the wifi did not work.
- 8:20Speaker 4: So I was in the dark there. the dish TV
- 8:23Speaker 4: stream or a direct TV stream or whatever they used
- 8:26Speaker 4: to stream didn't work. So I literally was flying in
- 8:30Speaker 4: the dark, no communication to the outside world to be
- 8:34Speaker 4: able to see anything after the first score of the
- 8:37Speaker 4: second half of Georgia, Alabama, until I got home. And
- 8:40Speaker 4: that's when I read about the fumble lock and the
- 8:43Speaker 4: pass interference. It should have been pass interference and, and
- 8:47Speaker 4: all of that. So I apologize for not having any
- 8:50Speaker 4: more detailed answers about, on specific plays in the second half.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I don't blame Delta. I blame you. Listen to me.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I don't blame Delta. I blame you. Okay, Bear? Well, yes,
- 9:02Speaker 3: I do.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Because when you know you have Alabama, okay, and you
- 9:06Speaker 2: know you have Georgia, and you love college football the
- 9:09Speaker 2: way you love college football, you don't risk it by
- 9:12Speaker 2: taking a flight and maybe the internet isn't working and
- 9:14Speaker 2: you're going to miss the game and you can't talk
- 9:16Speaker 2: about specific plays. You stay put in your hotel and
- 9:19Speaker 2: you watch that game. You fly home Sunday morning.
- 9:21Speaker 3: How about that?
- 9:22Speaker 4: Do I should have stayed in Omaha? Is what you're saying?
- 9:24Speaker 3: You should have stayed in Omaha.
- 9:26Speaker 1: If you cared enough, yes. You don't stay there for
- 9:28Speaker 1: like a month straight for college baseball.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I know.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I was going to say, if it was.
- 9:32Speaker 4: June, I'd fly home.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I love it.
- 9:34Speaker 4: That was where my college career ended, by the way.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:37Speaker 4: As a senior in Miami, 1994 College World Series.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Hell, yes. What a great response.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I should have.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Stayed in Omaha. Do we have the name of the
- 9:49Speaker 4: pod right there?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:52Speaker 2: But, T-Bob, let me ask you, do you feel like
- 9:54Speaker 2: the refs ruined the ending of that game? Yeah, I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 2: so I'm like the, the, the pass interference was absurd.
- 10:03Speaker 1: That was Nola. No call ask. Like I have, as
- 10:07Speaker 1: a saints fan, I have seen that firsthand. I know
- 10:09Speaker 1: how frustrated no world, which said it's not a pass interference.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It's impossible to explain that said, in my opinion, The
- 10:20Speaker 1: fumble look, that should not be the lead here because
- 10:26Speaker 1: I can never escape boxing analogies when I think about
- 10:31Speaker 1: football games. And if you just look at this game
- 10:34Speaker 1: from a game flow standpoint and the punches that each
- 10:38Speaker 1: side landed, this was an all-time matchup in Tuscaloosa. I mean,
- 10:42Speaker 1: Georgia goes on the road. Did you hear the pregame speech?
- 10:45Speaker 1: This is a me or him game.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Me or him.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Okay, I don't care about the scoreboard. I want to
- 10:51Speaker 1: make them feel us. Like, I listened to that pregame speech.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I got goosebumps right now. My heart started beating faster.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Like Pavlov's dog, my adrenaline started pumping. So Georgia goes
- 11:01Speaker 1: on the road, and what do they do? They immediately
- 11:03Speaker 1: go out to a 10-0 lead. You're about to land
- 11:05Speaker 1: in the open and flurry. But then Alabama down 10-0,
- 11:08Speaker 1: six minutes left in the first half. They roar back 14-10,
- 11:12Speaker 1: going in half. So what does UGA do after taking
- 11:14Speaker 1: on the chin? First drive, second half, touchdown drive. I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 1: it's crazy. Just bang, bang, bang, back and forth. And
- 11:25Speaker 1: I love the game. I thought both these teams are fantastic.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They're both going to continue to be fantastic. Both will
- 11:30Speaker 1: be playoff teams who knows who will win the rematch,
- 11:33Speaker 1: who knows could eventually host a trophy at the end.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But what an opening salvo from just two very disciplined,
- 11:39Speaker 1: excellent college football teams. Like, yeah, the refs know that
- 11:43Speaker 1: sucked or whatever, but that's not the story to me.
- 11:46Speaker 4: I always wondered, I always wondered, guys, why on like
- 11:49Speaker 4: third or fourth down in a big play situation or
- 11:52Speaker 4: a late game, like the best play is just throw
- 11:56Speaker 4: it up on like a medicine ball, like throw a P.I. route,
- 11:59Speaker 4: just badly underthrown, make the receivers stop about 10 yards
- 12:03Speaker 4: too soon. D.B. runs into him. P.I. first down. Like
- 12:07Speaker 4: I would I would call that play like if I'm
- 12:09Speaker 4: the offensive coordinator.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:10Speaker 4: I'm like on that play every single time.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Both those teams, to me, are playoff teams. Might be
- 12:16Speaker 2: the two best teams in the country, top to bottom.
- 12:18Speaker 2: They're really good football teams. That was a great game.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I am wondering, though, in an odd way, do you
- 12:23Speaker 2: think Alabama feels better about Kalen DeBoer after that game
- 12:27Speaker 2: than any of his victories?
- 12:30Speaker 4: I came away thinking more highly about Alabama than I
- 12:36Speaker 4: did Alabama. going into the week. The Alabama and Nebraska,
- 12:40Speaker 4: both in losses, I feel a hell of a lot
- 12:42Speaker 4: better about both of those teams today than I did
- 12:44Speaker 4: despite them being 5-0 going into them.
- 12:46Speaker 1: No, and it's a good point, Stu. You saw a
- 12:48Speaker 1: lot of humanity out on the board. Not that he's
- 12:52Speaker 1: never been a terribly stoic coach, right? But, like, him
- 12:54Speaker 1: getting fired up when he scored that touchdown right before
- 12:57Speaker 1: half off.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Looks like Saban, yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 1: What did you think about this, Stu? So, of course,
- 13:01Speaker 1: at the end of the game, really, this would be
- 13:03Speaker 1: the biggest black mark on the game would be the
- 13:05Speaker 1: fact that it ends with an undisciplined punch after a play,
- 13:09Speaker 1: which leads to a roughness penalty, and that's game right there.
- 13:12Speaker 1: But DeBoer seems to be getting a lot of pushback.
- 13:16Speaker 1: for yelling at his highly paid player who just cost
- 13:19Speaker 1: him the game. And yeah, Bear, I don't get it
- 13:21Speaker 1: at all. It's insane to me. What do you think?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Even if they weren't getting paid, that kid deserved to
- 13:26Speaker 1: have his ass chewed out. And even more so when
- 13:30Speaker 1: he's probably making around a million dollars.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I am so happy you brought that up because all
- 13:35Speaker 4: we've heard, what was the story about Alabama coming into
- 13:38Speaker 4: this year? Ah, they're soft up front. Kalen the board
- 13:41Speaker 4: isn't tough. He doesn't have any fire. We need Saban.
- 13:45Speaker 4: We need vigor and angst and accountability. So what does
- 13:49Speaker 4: he do? He goes out there and reads in the
- 13:52Speaker 4: riot act and account, you cost us the MF in game.
- 13:55Speaker 4: And finally you see the fire, you see the angst,
- 13:57Speaker 4: you see the accountability. And now we're, oh, why he
- 14:00Speaker 4: shouldn't have done that to the youngster. What the hell
- 14:02Speaker 4: are we talking about? Good for Kalen DeBoer. The kid
- 14:05Speaker 4: did cost him the game.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I think that's some frustration boiling over. No, the kid
- 14:09Speaker 2: didn't cost him the game. The referees cost him the game.
- 14:12Speaker 2: And there's no guarantee. There's no guarantee. But there's no guarantee, T-Bob. Yeah,
- 14:16Speaker 2: but there's no guarantee that Georgia converts on that third down.
- 14:19Speaker 3: There is no guarantee.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I understand why Kalen's upset in that spot. I don't
- 14:23Speaker 2: blame him for being upset at the kid and chewing
- 14:25Speaker 2: the kid out. I have no problem with what Kalen
- 14:28Speaker 2: DeBoer did. I'm just saying that's some frustration stemming over
- 14:31Speaker 2: from the previous offensive drive that they had. And then
- 14:34Speaker 2: he just unleashes on the kid. The kid deserved it,
- 14:37Speaker 2: no question about it. He didn't cost them the game
- 14:39Speaker 2: because Georgia still had to run a play. They pick
- 14:42Speaker 2: up a first down and the game's over anyways.
- 14:43Speaker 3: That's all I'm saying.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, again, though, you cost them the game
- 14:49Speaker 1: because it was a preventable mistake.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Of course, yes.
- 14:52Speaker 1: If you lose to Georgia because they out-execute you on
- 14:55Speaker 1: a play, fine. I can live with that. I can't
- 14:58Speaker 1: live on a, what do they call it in tennis?
- 15:00Speaker 1: An unforced error? Yes. Completely unforced error to throw that
- 15:05Speaker 1: punch there. But again, still, fantastic game. Play of the
- 15:10Speaker 1: game to me, probably Gunnar Stockton ripping that third and
- 15:13Speaker 1: eight on that final drive where it looked like Alabama
- 15:15Speaker 1: was going to immediately get him off the field. And
- 15:17Speaker 1: some of the windows. Stockton was willing to attack were
- 15:20Speaker 1: some NFL windows. I don't know that there's a player
- 15:22Speaker 1: in the country that I had my opinion change on more.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Not that I was overly negative on him, but now
- 15:28Speaker 1: I'm kind of a little horny for him than what I.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Saw out of Gunnar Stockton.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Both quarterbacks. Yeah, both quarterbacks for that matter. Both guys, yes.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Keelan Russell, you still see all the potential. But Keelan
- 15:39Speaker 1: Russell's like watching like a Lamborghini. You expect it to
- 15:42Speaker 1: be fast and impressive offensively. Gunnar Stockton's like an F-150
- 15:47Speaker 1: or something. He's just like a blue-collar truck out there
- 15:50Speaker 1: just banging and making plays.
- 15:53Speaker 4: T-Bob's showing his Rasputin for Gunnar Stockton. Georgia.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Kirby finally gets it done in Alabama. Been a long time.
- 16:03Speaker 1: When we get back here on the College Football Show
- 16:05Speaker 1: with Stu Gotts of Bear, let's go to where I was.
- 16:07Speaker 1: That's right. Let's head down to Texas. Number one goes
- 16:10Speaker 1: down at the State Fair next. All right, guys, welcome back.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So it wasn't just Georgia-Alabama doing battle this weekend. Of course, Oklahoma-Texas,
- 16:43Speaker 1: the state fair. And you want to talk about a
- 16:46Speaker 1: gem of a game.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 1: A walk-off kick. First time, I think the first time
- 16:52Speaker 1: that Oklahoma has ever beaten Texas on a walk-off game-winning
- 16:56Speaker 1: field goal and the first time they've ever beaten Texas
- 16:59Speaker 1: when they're number one. And if you talk about college football,
- 17:02Speaker 1: if you love college football, you love rivalries. And this Saturday,
- 17:05Speaker 1: this game right here, is the ultimate example of how
- 17:09Speaker 1: there is no better medicine for an upset fan base
- 17:12Speaker 1: for a season that has been thrown down the drain
- 17:15Speaker 1: a quarter of the way in than to beat your
- 17:17Speaker 1: arch rival on the stage. Oklahoma fans were on top
- 17:20Speaker 1: of the world Saturday in Dallas, Bear.
- 17:23Speaker 4: And they should have been. You look at the box score,
- 17:26Speaker 4: and we know I am big into looking at a
- 17:28Speaker 4: lot of the numbers, a lot of the analytics, the
- 17:31Speaker 4: win probabilities and things, fancy charts and graphs and numbers
- 17:35Speaker 4: to kind of, supporter dispute with it. Oklahoma, based on
- 17:39Speaker 4: the way the game flow went, had like a 7%
- 17:41Speaker 4: postgame expected win expectancy, which is ridiculous. And you look
- 17:47Speaker 4: at the box score, what, 230 yards, 13 offensive points,
- 17:52Speaker 4: just completely dominated statistically. But the way upsets happen, two
- 17:58Speaker 4: non-offensive touchdowns, bad interception there by Arch in the fourth quarter.
- 18:06Speaker 4: put Oklahoma in a position to win. And I just
- 18:09Speaker 4: wonder what way this is going to go now for Texas.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Because we keep waiting and waiting. We keep saying we're
- 18:15Speaker 4: waiting for Arch to play four quarters. We're waiting for
- 18:17Speaker 4: the offensive line. We're waiting for Cam Coleman to make
- 18:19Speaker 4: a play. How is this going to go the rest
- 18:24Speaker 4: of the way? Because you look at the schedule now,
- 18:26Speaker 4: You've got Florida this week. You've got four ranked teams
- 18:29Speaker 4: on the schedule after that. This feels like a 9-3
- 18:32Speaker 4: team to me. I did not think Texas was the
- 18:36Speaker 4: best team in the country. You had to respect the
- 18:38Speaker 4: win against Ohio State. You had to respect the win
- 18:41Speaker 4: at Neyland. You had a great resume, a great strength
- 18:44Speaker 4: of record. But the power rating still had Texas down.
- 18:48Speaker 4: And then finally it showed on Saturday. I think there
- 18:51Speaker 4: are a couple more losses here waiting to find the Longhorns.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Texas went to the State Fair, T-Bob, and had some
- 18:55Speaker 3: humble pie. I mean, how about that? Yes, fried humble pie.
- 18:58Speaker 3: And it was fried.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:01Speaker 2: And by the way, so this is interesting to me
- 19:03Speaker 2: because we talk about Sark as one of the great
- 19:06Speaker 2: offensive minds in college football. He's a quarterback whisperer. I
- 19:10Speaker 2: have not been impressed with Sark, with that offense, with
- 19:13Speaker 2: Arch Manning. If he was such a great coach, such
- 19:15Speaker 2: a great offensive mind, that team would be better offensively
- 19:19Speaker 2: than they've been the entire year. They've been consistent at
- 19:22Speaker 2: one thing, being inconsistent offensively.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, that's consistently inconsistent is the perfect way.
- 19:29Speaker 1: To describe that side of the ball for Texas right now. Now,
- 19:32Speaker 1: it also, though, Bear, I don't know that I'm as
- 19:35Speaker 1: down on Texas leaving this game as maybe you are.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I still see 10-2. I still see playoff team. But
- 19:42Speaker 1: it's because of the defense, right? The defense remains incredible,
- 19:47Speaker 1: and I think that'll be what carries them to whatever
- 19:49Speaker 1: their ceiling is going to be. to be this year. Uh, it's,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it's man, it's just so tough with arch. Cause due
- 19:55Speaker 1: to your point, he, he throws his first ever career
- 19:58Speaker 1: pick six, right. And in that environment, like I can't
- 20:01Speaker 1: explain to you, dude, beat in that game, live absolute
- 20:05Speaker 1: bucket list. The 50-50 crowd split is one of the
- 20:08Speaker 1: more odd dynamics that I have ever been a part
- 20:12Speaker 1: of in my entire life. It creates so many weird
- 20:15Speaker 1: situations where, like, you've got to drive out of this
- 20:17Speaker 1: side of the stadium to get to the other so
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's not as loud. Or when you score on your
- 20:21Speaker 1: side of the stadium, it's unbelievable. Like, sometimes the other
- 20:24Speaker 1: team's doing chants, so you're doing chants trying to out-chant them. Incredible.
- 20:28Speaker 1: But when Arch throws that pick six, it's his first ever.
- 20:31Speaker 1: It happens on the Oklahoma side.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And I was on that side. I pretended to be
- 20:36Speaker 1: a massive Sooner fan. It was so much fun.
- 20:38Speaker 3: That a boy.
- 20:38Speaker 1: When I tell you that place, you could not hear
- 20:40Speaker 1: yourself think.
- 20:41Speaker 4: That shit's crazy. Insane.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But what does he do? Then he comes out. He
- 20:45Speaker 1: drives Texas right down the field and he scores a touchdown.
- 20:48Speaker 1: And you're like, wow, that's like as tough a response
- 20:50Speaker 1: you could possibly get. This is where Arch is going
- 20:52Speaker 1: to write his legend. And then he waffles back the
- 20:54Speaker 1: other way, and he throws another pick that ends up
- 20:56Speaker 1: setting up the loss.
- 20:57Speaker 3: So it's like he was.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Right on the edge of greatness, right on the edge
- 21:01Speaker 1: of Ohio State 2.0, pulling it out, and he just couldn't.
- 21:05Speaker 1: And so while I'm still bullish on Arch, I like
- 21:08Speaker 1: Arch long-term, I like him in the NFL, I don't
- 21:11Speaker 1: know number one pick overall or whatnot, this is a
- 21:14Speaker 1: tough day for the Arch defenders. But, Bear, I think
- 21:18Speaker 1: a lot of this is the kind of rivalry factor.
- 21:21Speaker 1: This was so clearly Oklahoma players, Super Bowl, Oklahoma fans,
- 21:25Speaker 1: Super Bowl. They knew this was their golden ticket game.
- 21:29Speaker 1: The season has been nothing but a disappointment. This was
- 21:31Speaker 1: the get-out-of-jail-free card that Venables and that entire program needed,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and credit to them, they got it done.
- 21:38Speaker 4: And now you get Kentucky coming in off of their
- 21:41Speaker 4: upset win. They upset Texas. No one wanted to bet
- 21:45Speaker 4: Oklahoma last week other than my guy Stanford Steve, who
- 21:47Speaker 4: called Oklahoma outright bad. Kudos to him. Now you're Oklahoma
- 21:52Speaker 4: at home laying a touchdown against a super confident, big balls,
- 21:56Speaker 4: Will Stein type of team going in there with a
- 21:58Speaker 4: ton of confidence. Bad spot for Oklahoma this week, too,
- 22:02Speaker 4: I think, coming off of that win. Great win last week,
- 22:05Speaker 4: but I would not want to be back in Oklahoma
- 22:07Speaker 4: this week because the– The analytics, the box score doesn't lie. Like,
- 22:13Speaker 4: they still are what they are offensively. We did unbelievable
- 22:17Speaker 4: things to happen on special teams and defense to win
- 22:20Speaker 4: this game. Like, the punt block caught me right before
- 22:24Speaker 4: going out of bounds. So nice. The margins were so slim.
- 22:29Speaker 4: I would not want to be laying points with Oklahoma
- 22:31Speaker 4: this week to give.
- 22:31Speaker 1: A little bit. I should say this as well. The...
- 22:35Speaker 1: I love the toughness I saw at Oklahoma. I had
- 22:37Speaker 1: to go down 17-7, find a way to win. But
- 22:43Speaker 1: that Oklahoma offense is the most atrocious side of offensive
- 22:49Speaker 1: football I've ever been subjected to. If I had eaten mushrooms,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I would have had a bad trip. Like I would
- 22:54Speaker 1: have called the police and said, my heart, I'm having
- 22:57Speaker 1: a heart attack. I need to get the hospital immediately.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Like that's how bad the offense is.
- 23:03Speaker 4: It is.
- 23:03Speaker 1: It is so God awful, but for a day they
- 23:07Speaker 1: did enough, but I, but I'm with you bear. I
- 23:09Speaker 1: don't believe that these traits are necessarily replicable going forward.
- 23:14Speaker 1: So I actually emerged out of the game. Like I'm
- 23:16Speaker 1: fine on Texas. I think they're fine. I think they're
- 23:19Speaker 1: going to be fine. Oklahoma's, got more losses coming in
- 23:22Speaker 1: their future.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Does that one win from a tear erase how bad
- 23:26Speaker 2: he's been for Oklahoma? I guess what I'm asking you
- 23:29Speaker 2: guys is, will he ever have to buy a drink
- 23:31Speaker 2: in Norman, Oklahoma again, regardless of whether or not he
- 23:34Speaker 2: wins another game?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he's good. He's good. He's good. So he's,
- 23:40Speaker 1: he's not as good as he could be. But he
- 23:43Speaker 1: was facing outcast status. It does not matter what happens
- 23:48Speaker 1: from here on out because he gave that fan base
- 23:51Speaker 1: a win over number one Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Like,
- 23:56Speaker 1: he's fine. I fully believe that he is fine in
- 23:59Speaker 1: that town now. I don't know if McKeer is fine.
- 24:04Speaker 1: If you are the guy who's fine, it's Tate Sandell,
- 24:07Speaker 1: the kicker.
- 24:08Speaker 4: He's fine. He is goaded, bronzed, anything. Because he was
- 24:13Speaker 4: frigging awesome last year. And Tate Sandell is the guy
- 24:16Speaker 4: who never has to pay for a beverage again in Norman.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Put it on the poll. Who more never has to
- 24:23Speaker 4: pay for a drink in Norman?
- 24:25Speaker 1: I will say, credit to the Oklahoma fan base. Because, again,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I became best friends with all of them.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Were you walking around in Sooner garb? Were you saying
- 24:36Speaker 3: you were in the class of 18 or something like that?
- 24:39Speaker 1: No, I went to Cavender's Western Wear. I got this
- 24:42Speaker 1: cowboy hat. I got a button-up shirt to wear. I
- 24:45Speaker 1: got a belt buckle with an American flag that said,
- 24:47Speaker 1: love it or leave it.
- 24:48Speaker 4: I had cowboy boots on. So I just.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Dressed like a cowboy for the game. You should have
- 24:53Speaker 1: had a Bosworth jersey. And I was here for wherever
- 24:54Speaker 1: I ended up. But no, but I'll say this.
- 24:57Speaker 4: I was going to say, that uni plays for both
- 24:59Speaker 4: sides there. I was going to say, you were golden
- 25:00Speaker 4: either way.
- 25:01Speaker 1: The Sooner fans have an irrational belief in Mateer. They
- 25:06Speaker 1: kept saying, like, come on, Johnny. Johnny's got this. Johnny's
- 25:09Speaker 1: going to get us there.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Really?
- 25:10Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, dude. And they would
- 25:12Speaker 1: express frustration as well. But then he did it with Catania.
- 25:16Speaker 1: He made the throws that he had to.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:18Speaker 1: To win in the end. So shout out to Oklahoma.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And by the way, if you can ever get down
- 25:23Speaker 1: to the State Fair and the game itself, Unreal.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Unbelievable.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Bucket list checked. Next on this list, you opened the
- 25:31Speaker 1: show making fun of me for LSU, Stu. Yes. And
- 25:35Speaker 1: one of the use cases for why Lane Kiven and
- 25:37Speaker 1: LSU has no excuse is UCLA going on the road.
- 25:42Speaker 1: into Autzen and winning 17-15 in one of the grossest,
- 25:49Speaker 1: most inept, most pathetic displays of offensive football as I've
- 25:54Speaker 1: ever seen. Ten turnovers total in this game. Seven for
- 25:58Speaker 1: the Oregon Ducks, Bear.
- 26:00Speaker 4: It was horrible. When you are a 12-point favorite, 11-point favorite,
- 26:06Speaker 4: and you score 15 points, that is not a good
- 26:10Speaker 4: thing physically. And I was talking with Bruce Feldman on
- 26:14Speaker 4: Friday on Bruce and the Bear, one of the other
- 26:16Speaker 4: shows that I do. And he brought up something that
- 26:18Speaker 4: there was a coordinator in the Big Ten who felt
- 26:22Speaker 4: like they could really make life miserable for Dylan Riola.
- 26:26Speaker 4: And a lot of times, and you may have been
- 26:28Speaker 4: on teams that have been this way, The backup comes in,
- 26:32Speaker 4: first game injury, you've got to go out there and play.
- 26:35Speaker 4: You don't have time to think. You just go out there, play,
- 26:38Speaker 4: and you go great.
- 26:39Speaker 3: And the other team doesn't have time to prepare, Bear.
- 26:41Speaker 3: That's the other thing.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Correct.
- 26:42Speaker 4: And then second week comes.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And you're playing league at Riley's defense.
- 26:46Speaker 4: That too. And you get to start, and everything's well.
- 26:51Speaker 4: And shit goes bad. And shit went bad. And could you–
- 26:58Speaker 4: I can't get there. That game was about bad Oregon,
- 27:03Speaker 4: not UCLA. UCLA was not great either. So Nico got hurt,
- 27:07Speaker 4: but like, come on.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It's funny that you say that, Bear, because I, as
- 27:11Speaker 1: like a core tenet of how I analyze college football,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think we get so egocentric and we just want
- 27:19Speaker 1: to say it's all about the team that we cheer
- 27:21Speaker 1: for or it's all about the losing team. It's like,
- 27:24Speaker 1: I'm a firm believer in giving credit to the winner,
- 27:27Speaker 1: but I wrote down, like, this is one of the
- 27:29Speaker 1: few instances where, no, this is more about Oregon. I mean,
- 27:32Speaker 1: from seven turnovers. The interception by DeLaRoyola in the third
- 27:37Speaker 1: quarter that got him benched was the most mindless, out-of-his-depth,
- 27:43Speaker 1: inexcusable interception I think I've ever seen in my life.
- 27:46Speaker 1: And we did say going into the game that while
- 27:49Speaker 1: Royola looked good, He still represented a variable that brought
- 27:53Speaker 1: a lot of volatility with it because we didn't know
- 27:56Speaker 1: exactly what it was going to be. And unfortunately now,
- 27:58Speaker 1: we have a way bigger sample size that this game's
- 28:02Speaker 1: Dylan Raiola is who he actually is versus what we
- 28:05Speaker 1: saw against USC.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I think one of the interesting– go ahead, T-Bob. You
- 28:11Speaker 3: want to finish that thought? No, no, no. You got it.
- 28:13Speaker 2: No, no.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Go.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I was going to say because Bear knows how this works.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Both you guys know how this works, okay? Bob Chesney
- 28:20Speaker 2: is the hottest coach.
- 28:21Speaker 3: He's hot.
- 28:21Speaker 2: He's a good-looking guy. But he is a hot coach
- 28:24Speaker 2: right now. He goes into Oregon. UCLA was a terrible
- 28:27Speaker 2: team last year. Chesney has fixed that thing, and he
- 28:30Speaker 2: has done it quickly.
- 28:31Speaker 3: He's young. He's energetic. He is good-looking.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I am telling UCLA, enjoy him for the remainder of
- 28:37Speaker 2: this season because next season, that man is going elsewhere.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Okay?
- 28:41Speaker 4: And I am telling you that they are on massive
- 28:44Speaker 4: upset alert this week at home against Wisconsin. UCLA, they
- 28:50Speaker 4: were tied with scoreless at halftime against San Diego State.
- 28:54Speaker 4: They need a bunch of turnovers in the fourth quarter,
- 28:56Speaker 4: a tie game against a kind of mediocre Cal team.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I would be very, very careful this week. That line
- 29:05Speaker 4: stinks to high hell against Wisconsin.
- 29:09Speaker 1: You two really are just a couple of miserable pricks. Yes.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I mean, UCLA. UCLA just had to suffer. Sean Foster. Yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 1: They weren't just bad guys. They were dead. They're tarping
- 29:25Speaker 1: over the stands. They're begging for money in the streets.
- 29:28Speaker 1: They're panhandling.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Are they still moving the sofa?
- 29:30Speaker 1: And here they are currently minus odds to make the
- 29:35Speaker 1: college football playoff And Stu says, sorry your coach is leaving.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Bear says, sorry, you're losing. They just won an auction, guys. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: you gave the credit to Oregon.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I mean.
- 29:47Speaker 4: As did I. I'm glad you said minus odds to
- 29:52Speaker 4: make the playoff. Are they Big Ten number three? Like,
- 29:56Speaker 4: is there a path or a scenario out there? where
- 30:00Speaker 4: the Big Ten only gets two teams. Because if you're
- 30:03Speaker 4: looking at– well, Oregon's done. I mean, Oregon, I don't
- 30:06Speaker 4: think we can expect them to go to– No. You're
- 30:09Speaker 4: looking at USC, UCLA, Wisconsin– Northwestern Iowa, like these teams
- 30:19Speaker 4: could lose to anybody and all like wind up nine
- 30:22Speaker 4: and three or worse. Like, is there like a real
- 30:26Speaker 4: scenario out here? Cause Notre Dame is going to get
- 30:27Speaker 4: in the playoff. I think the big 12 is going
- 30:29Speaker 4: to get two teams in the playoff. Like could the
- 30:32Speaker 4: big 10 just get Ohio state in India? There's no
- 30:36Speaker 4: way that's going to happen.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I it's there's, there's, it's so impossible, right? I mean,
- 30:41Speaker 1: when we see a nine and three team get in
- 30:43Speaker 1: last year, everybody ended up did it too. if this
- 30:46Speaker 1: weekend has proven one thing, it's that we need to
- 30:50Speaker 1: actually play the football games. Right. Because we don't actually
- 30:54Speaker 1: imagine that. We don't actually know who's going to win them.
- 30:57Speaker 1: That's why when the college football playoff committee tells me
- 30:59Speaker 1: they just know who's better, I can't help but get
- 31:01Speaker 1: a little angry and laugh because you don't know. And
- 31:04Speaker 1: no one could have ever expected Bob Chesney to already
- 31:06Speaker 1: have this program where he does. And you know what
- 31:08Speaker 1: the craziest part about Chesney is? I can grasp a
- 31:12Speaker 1: new coach coming in being a quarterback whisperer, and because
- 31:17Speaker 1: he can suddenly get incredible production, like a Cignetti, out
- 31:21Speaker 1: of the most important position on the field, you win
- 31:23Speaker 1: football games. Bob Chesney went to a school that was
- 31:26Speaker 1: considered to be maybe the softest in the entire country,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and at year one is winning with defense and running
- 31:32Speaker 1: the ball. And he doesn't even have good quarterback play.
- 31:36Speaker 1: What if they did have a quarterback? It'd be great. So, like,
- 31:39Speaker 1: unreal job by Bob Chesney, what he's been able to
- 31:41Speaker 1: do here early on.
- 31:42Speaker 4: All right.
- 31:43Speaker 1: We've got a few more things to get to here
- 31:45Speaker 1: on the College Football Show. It's two gods and a bear.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Don't go anywhere. A few more games to get to
- 31:48Speaker 1: on the other side. All right, welcome back. College Football Show,
- 32:11Speaker 1: Stu Gatz and the Bear. Guys, you ever heard the
- 32:15Speaker 1: tale of Sisyphus?
- 32:16Speaker 3: No.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Yes. You know, Stu, he's rolling the ball uphill.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And he's constantly pushing the rock up the mountain, but
- 32:25Speaker 1: he never gets to the mountaintop. That's Nebraska football fans. Yeah,
- 32:29Speaker 1: it's also Chris Paul. I mean, we're talking over 30
- 32:33Speaker 1: ranked losses in a row in that stadium. And there's
- 32:36Speaker 1: a lot of good games in there. Eventually, the Mavcots
- 32:39Speaker 1: would dictate they should stumble into a win. Anthony Calandria
- 32:43Speaker 1: played like a man on fire Saturday. And yet, in
- 32:46Speaker 1: the end, it took like three big plays out of
- 32:50Speaker 1: Indiana to suck all the hope out of Nebraska's undefeated season,
- 32:55Speaker 1: hand them another heartbreaking home loss and bear. Indiana survives
- 33:02Speaker 1: the test in Lincoln.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Amazing. I came out of the game feeling a hell
- 33:05Speaker 4: of a lot better about Nebraska than I did going
- 33:08Speaker 4: into the week. But seriously, it's 17-6, and it's finally–
- 33:12Speaker 4: I texted with Jabba Chamberlain, like, it's finally going to happen. Like,
- 33:17Speaker 4: this can end, like, literally 10 seconds later is the
- 33:21Speaker 4: first long touchdown to Marsh, and you're like, ugh. And
- 33:25Speaker 4: then that's– no one has mastered losing games– in agonizing
- 33:30Speaker 4: fashion to rank teams like there's 31 straight rules lost 21.
- 33:35Speaker 4: It's just unfathomable where they stand. But I think moving
- 33:39Speaker 4: that game reminded me, it was like a combination of
- 33:42Speaker 4: the Iowa game last year for Indiana and throwing a
- 33:45Speaker 4: little bit of the Penn state game from Indiana, where
- 33:47Speaker 4: you thought they were done. And then they just found
- 33:50Speaker 4: a way to win the game. I do think moving forward,
- 33:54Speaker 4: you want to look, especially this weekend. So Iowa state,
- 33:57Speaker 4: They couldn't run the ball worth a damn against Nebraska.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Are they going to be able to run the ball
- 34:02Speaker 4: against Ohio State? So there might be a couple of
- 34:05Speaker 4: little flickers, a couple of warning signs that this is
- 34:07Speaker 4: not an Indiana team at the caliber of last year.
- 34:11Speaker 4: But shit, when they needed a big play from Hoover
- 34:13Speaker 4: and Marsh, they got it.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I can't believe that we live in a world where
- 34:18Speaker 2: Indiana beating Nebraska, like had they not beaten Nebraska, we
- 34:21Speaker 2: all would have criticized Indiana, Nebraska football school, Indiana basketball
- 34:26Speaker 2: school until last year, T Bob.
- 34:28Speaker 3: And so I was.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Impressed with Indiana though, just showing the guts to be
- 34:31Speaker 2: able to pull that game out of the road because
- 34:33Speaker 2: everyone's waiting for Cignetti to endure a loss and go
- 34:37Speaker 2: on like a little bad streak here.
- 34:39Speaker 3: And it hasn't happened yet. It might listen.
- 34:40Speaker 2: It might start this weekend with Ohio state, but, but
- 34:42Speaker 2: I was impressed with Cignetti and with the toughness of
- 34:45Speaker 2: that football team.
- 34:47Speaker 1: No, I'm a thousand percent with you. See, that's very funny.
- 34:49Speaker 1: That was kind of my eagle eye takeaway from this game.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Like my bird's eye view when I zoomed everything out,
- 34:55Speaker 1: like what actually stands out to me is just how
- 34:59Speaker 1: quickly it's such a testament. What Cignetti has done, how
- 35:02Speaker 1: quickly we've gotten to judging them at a national championship standard,
- 35:07Speaker 1: crazy national champions. And like, In any other story, it's
- 35:11Speaker 1: already a story that shouldn't exist, and it can't be replicated.
- 35:16Speaker 1: But in any other story, this would have been the
- 35:18Speaker 1: perfect opportunity for the fall. It's so hard to defend
- 35:21Speaker 1: a title. You lose the Heisman guy, the number one
- 35:24Speaker 1: overall pick. Surely this should have been the step-back opportunity.
- 35:28Speaker 1: And sure, while maybe, I do think they'll lose to
- 35:33Speaker 1: Ohio State this weekend. I think they'll still make the playoff,
- 35:35Speaker 1: but I think they'll take a step back. But it's like,
- 35:38Speaker 1: to still be so relevant and so good and still
- 35:42Speaker 1: what I believe to be a college football playoff team.
- 35:44Speaker 1: And to get the production that you're getting out of
- 35:45Speaker 1: Josh Hoover right now, which is in Mendoza, but it's
- 35:48Speaker 1: much cleaner than it ever was at TCU. And this
- 35:51Speaker 1: is what Kurt Cignetti does. If you go and look
- 35:53Speaker 1: at every quarterback that he's had since 2019, back to
- 35:56Speaker 1: his JMU and before days, he gets a guy, he
- 35:59Speaker 1: immediately transforms him, he makes him into an all-conference quarterback,
- 36:03Speaker 1: they win football games. It's absurd the amount of consistency.
- 36:07Speaker 1: And this year, although some will try to crap on
- 36:10Speaker 1: it because they're not as good as last year, this
- 36:13Speaker 1: year is in some ways even more impressive for Indiana. But, Bear,
- 36:17Speaker 1: what was the postgame win expectancy on this? Because, I mean,
- 36:21Speaker 1: I looked it up. Indiana's offense goes 1 of 10
- 36:24Speaker 1: on third down. Nebraska went 10 of 19. Nebraska doubled
- 36:27Speaker 1: up Indiana's rushing. Nebraska ran 75 plays to Indiana's 48.
- 36:31Speaker 1: They had double the amount of time of possession. And
- 36:34Speaker 1: they found a way to lose the game.
- 36:36Speaker 4: It really is. It is amazing. I did not see
- 36:39Speaker 4: that on the Bill Connolly list. So I would, I
- 36:42Speaker 4: would imagine it was probably like a, like a, like
- 36:46Speaker 4: a 35 or a 40. Like it's certainly, I think
- 36:47Speaker 4: post game would be Nebraska favorite to win the game.
- 36:51Speaker 4: I want to spit it forward to Indiana for this week.
- 36:54Speaker 4: And you mentioned sick daddy and you mentioned a national champ.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Like you are the rating national champion. You've won. What?
- 37:04Speaker 4: 20-something whatever games in a row, you've won however many
- 37:07Speaker 4: Big Ten games in a row. Last year in the
- 37:09Speaker 4: Big Ten championship game, you kicked the shit out of
- 37:12Speaker 4: Ohio State up front, made Julian Sainz see ghosts, a
- 37:16Speaker 4: couple of big stops on third and fourth down in
- 37:18Speaker 4: that game. They couldn't run the ball. And now you're
- 37:21Speaker 4: a home dog. He has to be absolutely loving this. Yes.
- 37:27Speaker 4: this week to be in this spot.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Yes. That's true.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Ryan Day doesn't like it. He doesn't want to be
- 37:33Speaker 2: the favorite. I don't think at least.
- 37:35Speaker 3: But Cignetti and Indiana has earned that.
- 37:36Speaker 2: No one should be surprised if Indiana wins this game
- 37:39Speaker 2: at home against Ohio State. I think everyone thinks and
- 37:42Speaker 2: assumes Ohio State has the better roster, is the better team.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Some might think they're the better coach team. But no
- 37:47Speaker 2: one should be surprised at this stage of the game
- 37:50Speaker 2: if Indiana wins that game, goes to the playoff again,
- 37:52Speaker 2: wins a national championship.
- 37:54Speaker 3: I mean, why not? They've already done it, you know.
- 37:56Speaker 1: I have a question for the group. Is Mike Elko
- 38:01Speaker 1: the biggest loser of the week in all of college football?
- 38:04Speaker 4: I had him as my Leisman Trophy winner for the week.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Really? Dan Lanning, huh?
- 38:10Speaker 4: Why are you taking on my man El Big Looch
- 38:12Speaker 4: like that? That is not anything.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Because Elko was my man.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Stu, do you know Billy Loochie?
- 38:19Speaker 3: No, I don't know Billy Loochie. I have no idea. Looch.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Texags.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Yes.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Is a Texas A & M fan site, right? And
- 38:29Speaker 1: that makes it sound kind of quaint. It is anything but.
- 38:33Speaker 1: This is an empire of college football fans that wield
- 38:38Speaker 1: a lot of power. And here Mike Elko is, the
- 38:41Speaker 1: second after they get dominated by Mizzou, which, shout out
- 38:44Speaker 1: to Mizzou, Jamal Roberts, awesome. Austin Simmons, Cain Lee, awesome.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Cain Lee? Dominate, dominate Texas A & M. and Mike
- 38:53Speaker 1: Elko gets up there after the game, and the creator
- 38:56Speaker 1: of Tex-Ex is Billy Lucci, and he mentions that, look,
- 39:00Speaker 1: you know, there's two sorts of fans. There's the fans
- 39:02Speaker 1: who are with us, and there's, like, Billy Cesspool. and
- 39:05Speaker 1: I don't care about Billy Sesspool. Well, guess what, Elko?
- 39:09Speaker 1: Billy Sesspool's who.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Got you hired.
- 39:11Speaker 1: They were going to hire Mark Stoops. The Sesspool got pissed,
- 39:16Speaker 1: shut it down, and got you in there, and now
- 39:19Speaker 1: you turn on them at a moment where you need
- 39:21Speaker 1: them the most because you are absolutely failing on a
- 39:23Speaker 1: spectacular scale. It might be the biggest. It's a Plaxico
- 39:29Speaker 1: Burris shoot. himself in the leg in the club level
- 39:32Speaker 1: of misstep from Mike Elko.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you can't do that. Seth Poole is the one
- 39:37Speaker 4: that's brought him in with the number one or number
- 39:40Speaker 4: two portal in recruiting class for the last couple of years.
- 39:44Speaker 4: I'm sure it was a heat of the moment thing,
- 39:45Speaker 4: and I'm sure– he'll reach out to Billy.
- 39:48Speaker 1: They've already talked. They've already talked.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Yeah, Billy told him he's fired after the season.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Marcel Reed, man.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Wow.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah, bad. Yes.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so, I mean, look, we already kind of knew
- 40:01Speaker 1: he was bad last year, and that was bad with
- 40:03Speaker 1: a great rushing attack and a really good offensive line
- 40:05Speaker 1: and a really good defense. So, like, What happens when
- 40:08Speaker 1: you strip those elements away and then you get an
- 40:10Speaker 1: OC that's never called plays before? You see what happens.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but Elko can say, hey, made the playoff last year.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And that's what we talked about at the beginning of
- 40:22Speaker 2: the season. The expanded playoff, if indeed it happens, and
- 40:24Speaker 2: it probably will. These coaches, and that team was good
- 40:27Speaker 2: last year. His team was good last year, and I
- 40:29Speaker 2: believe Elko is a good coach, and I do like him.
- 40:32Speaker 3: And he's a friend.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:33Speaker 2: But yes, he can sustain this for a year at
- 40:37Speaker 2: Texas A & M. If he has two years consecutively,
- 40:40Speaker 2: he didn't have it last year. He went to the playoff,
- 40:41Speaker 2: as we discussed. But if he has a bad year
- 40:44Speaker 2: this year, and it seems like they're going to have
- 40:45Speaker 2: a bad year, he'll be fine. He compiles that by
- 40:48Speaker 2: having another bad year next year. That's unacceptable at Texas
- 40:51Speaker 2: A & M. And that's how quickly it turns on
- 40:53Speaker 2: you in college coaching.
- 40:54Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Speaking of coaches, is it funny how maybe Bill Belichick
- 41:01Speaker 4: didn't forget to learn how to coach, and maybe Michael
- 41:05Speaker 4: Lombardi actually put together a good roster. They are a
- 41:09Speaker 4: lengthy rain-weather-storm delay at Clemson. That game doesn't go to
- 41:16Speaker 4: a weather delay, or they run a play near the
- 41:18Speaker 4: goal line before the weather. They win that game, and
- 41:21Speaker 4: they're sitting 4-1 right now. We all left Carolina and
- 41:25Speaker 4: Belichick and Lombardi, left them for dead, and now they
- 41:30Speaker 4: might be okay. This looks like a bowl team.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Yes, but you're paying a guy $ 10 million to be competent?
- 41:35Speaker 2: I mean... $ 10 million so they look like a bowl
- 41:38Speaker 2: team is tough.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I mean, I do, but.
- 41:42Speaker 3: But Bear might be right. I mean, you got to
- 41:43Speaker 3: get Belichick.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Listen, we crush him when he loses and all the
- 41:47Speaker 2: off-the-field stuff.
- 41:48Speaker 3: That was a nice win for Belichick in Carolina. It was.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I'm with you, Bear.
- 41:53Speaker 4: That Pitt backup is terrible.
- 41:54Speaker 3: By the way.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Then again, I was saying Mason Heintzschel, their starting quarterback
- 41:57Speaker 1: that made Pitt good, like, is out for the year, so...
- 42:01Speaker 1: Let's not go. I can see Taylor pitching a tent
- 42:03Speaker 1: all the way from here in Chicago. Let's just tell
- 42:06Speaker 1: him to calm down a little bit. Okay.
- 42:09Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not happy.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Good for Taylor. But like you would see, I'm
- 42:14Speaker 1: not sure.
- 42:15Speaker 5: This is fine. I'm on the opposite side.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Actually.
- 42:19Speaker 5: Like you look at the teams that Belichick has beaten.
- 42:22Speaker 5: It's like a lacrosse player subbing in at quarterback, Jaden
- 42:25Speaker 5: Craig at TCU, and a backup quarterback here. It's not
- 42:30Speaker 5: really murderer's row of quarterbacks.
- 42:31Speaker 3: You would take Bob Chesney right now, correct?
- 42:33Speaker 5: I'd drive to L.A. and pick him up myself.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Okay, more housekeeping here real quick. USC Penn State, this
- 42:41Speaker 1: is actually one that I exercised free will for, and
- 42:44Speaker 1: to be completely honest, I opted out of. I spent
- 42:49Speaker 1: my Sunday catching up on all the other games.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:52Speaker 1: And I just, I looked down, I said, you know what?
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I don't think that interests me that much. Bear opted
- 42:56Speaker 1: out of Alabama, Georgia. I mean.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, they're both night games, unavailable on GW
- 43:03Speaker 4: to BTL, BDL. But reading it and watching the mashup
- 43:09Speaker 4: of it.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:10Speaker 4: I never thought I'd say this, but like give USC's
- 43:13Speaker 4: defense credit for holding Penn State without a touchdown in
- 43:16Speaker 4: the second half. And this, we all knew the numbers
- 43:20Speaker 4: about SC going on the road, going to the Eastern
- 43:23Speaker 4: time zone. and he did not been good and to
- 43:27Speaker 4: get a win in a, in a toss up type
- 43:29Speaker 4: game is pretty big. Cause we talked about the big
- 43:32Speaker 4: 10 and how wide open that number three spot in
- 43:35Speaker 4: the big 10 is like, there is a, there is
- 43:37Speaker 4: a path for, for SC to potentially be a 10
- 43:41Speaker 4: and two now and make the college football play. But,
- 43:43Speaker 4: but how about you talk about Bob Chesty? He was
- 43:46Speaker 4: rumored to be the Penn State head coach. Maybe Jeff
- 43:49Speaker 4: Brom was rumored to be the Penn State head coach.
- 43:51Speaker 4: They didn't get either of those. You bring in Matt Campbell,
- 43:53Speaker 4: who I like, and I think he's a good coach.
- 43:56Speaker 4: But now you're sitting there three and three. You got
- 43:59Speaker 4: Michigan this week. The loser of this game probably isn't
- 44:02Speaker 4: making a bowl game. If you have Matt Campbell now
- 44:05Speaker 4: as a power four head coach, when you look at
- 44:08Speaker 4: these toss-up games, plus three, minus three, either way. He's 8-21. Wow. So, like,
- 44:15Speaker 4: the coin has landed on the wrong side for him
- 44:18Speaker 4: more often than that, and hopefully he'll have an opportunity
- 44:21Speaker 4: to get this thing turned around.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Not a good sign when you're getting outcoached by Lincoln Riley.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I mean, and you have to give Lincoln some credit
- 44:27Speaker 2: here because it's two weeks ago, all of us in
- 44:29Speaker 2: a group text were saying Lincoln Riley is about to
- 44:32Speaker 2: get fired. He has saved his job again, and he
- 44:34Speaker 2: has saved their season. That was a good win. You
- 44:37Speaker 2: can say what you want about Penn State. That's a
- 44:38Speaker 2: good win going across the country, as you mentioned, Bear.
- 44:41Speaker 2: But USC in the whiteout game, which they should stop
- 44:44Speaker 2: doing because they always play poorly when they do the whiteout.
- 44:47Speaker 3: But USC here has a shot. I'm not saying they're
- 44:50Speaker 3: going to do it.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I did not think I'd be saying this two weeks ago,
- 44:53Speaker 2: but Lincoln Riley has a shot of making it to
- 44:55Speaker 2: the playoff.
- 44:55Speaker 3: He does.
- 44:56Speaker 1: So, okay. Well, that's like a child. I mean, you're
- 45:00Speaker 1: flying off the mountain a little over. I'll say this, this,
- 45:05Speaker 1: this game is, was like Lincoln Riley's dialysis. We tried
- 45:12Speaker 1: to give the lethal injection to Lincoln Riley twice. He's
- 45:16Speaker 1: just like that woman the other day. He somehow survived
- 45:19Speaker 1: both doses, and now we got him on dialysis. He
- 45:22Speaker 1: survived by the skin of his teeth. I still think
- 45:24Speaker 1: he's dead, but for now, he's proven me wrong.
- 45:27Speaker 4: There's a pulse. I'm done. I mean, I don't know.
- 45:34Speaker 1: I think if you survive lethal injection, maybe you should
- 45:36Speaker 1: just be like, all right, you know. I think you
- 45:38Speaker 1: get to live now. You did it.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Congrats.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Wait, but do you live in prison? I mean, what
- 45:43Speaker 3: happens there?
- 45:43Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 1: No, you don't get free.
- 45:45Speaker 3: You don't get total freedom.
- 45:45Speaker 1: You don't get free. No, no, no, no. No, it's
- 45:48Speaker 1: not the get out of jail free card. But yeah,
- 45:51Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley, very clearly still on the deathbed, or at
- 45:54Speaker 1: least I think so. And for Penn State, you know what?
- 45:58Speaker 2: Go ahead, Bear.
- 46:00Speaker 4: No, I was going to say, could you imagine if
- 46:02Speaker 4: there weren't all those Russian bot farms that hadn't been
- 46:06Speaker 4: struck down by Ukraine? We'd get some pretty interesting responses
- 46:08Speaker 4: from all the bot farms on Twitter right now.
- 46:11Speaker 1: The only thing I'll say about Penn State, turns out,
- 46:16Speaker 1: it was a pretty bold strategy to just take Iowa
- 46:19Speaker 1: State and move it to the Big Ten. Be like, yeah,
- 46:22Speaker 1: this is going to be better than the Penn State
- 46:25Speaker 1: roster we had last year. Maybe not. Maybe not so much.
- 46:29Speaker 3: And all of a sudden, James Franklin doesn't sound too bad.
- 46:31Speaker 3: How about that? How about that?
- 46:34Speaker 1: You know what else? You know who does sound bad now?
- 46:36Speaker 1: Florida sucks. Lenora Sellers back. And that will do it
- 46:42Speaker 1: for today's show.
- 46:43Speaker 5: There you go, guys.
- 46:44Speaker 1: How about that?
- 46:45Speaker 3: The cocks.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Stu, Bear, thanks for having me again, guys. Always a
- 46:48Speaker 1: pleasure to get to hang out here with you all, too.
- 46:51Speaker 1: If you enjoy the show, like it, subscribe it. You know,
- 46:55Speaker 1: please the algorithmic gods that rule our universe. We got
- 46:58Speaker 1: more college football show with Stu Gotts and the Bear
- 47:01Speaker 1: coming up all season long.
