Transcript
- 0:15Welcome to Live from youm Heart. This isn't
- 0:19just a podcast you listen to. This is for those moments
- 0:23in your life when you start to realize something's
- 0:28off. Maybe you've spent years doing what was expected,
- 0:32showing up for everyone else, playing the roles,
- 0:35and somewhere along the way you lost connection
- 0:40with yourself. If that's you,
- 0:43you are in the right place. Every week
- 0:48I'm going to have real conversations about what it actually looks
- 0:53like to come back to your own heart and start
- 0:56living from that place again. Or perhaps
- 1:01for the first time. And if at some point you realize
- 1:05you're ready for more than just listening, I'm going to show you what
- 1:09the next steps look like. So let's
- 1:20Most people think that grief,
- 1:24something you go through when something's
- 1:28lost. Here's what I've learned.
- 1:33There's a lot of things that we never, ever grieve.
- 1:38Conversations that never happen.
- 1:42Versions of our life that
- 1:46never come together. Parts of ourselves that
- 1:50we left behind. When we don't feel
- 1:55it, we carry it.
- 2:00Yeah, we don't feel it, we carry it.
- 2:03So as we kind of step into this doorway
- 2:09back to your heart, talk about grief for
- 2:13just a few minutes, does what you haven't
- 2:19allowed yourself to feel. It's still shaping
- 2:24your life. We don't want
- 2:27to avoid it, but we want to look
- 2:32at it as something that's going to bring you back. Who you
- 2:35hung off to help you begin live from
- 2:40your own heart. Hey, it's Les Blochline and
- 2:44I'm the host of podcast
- 2:49called Live on your Heart. I'm glad that you have joined.
- 2:53It's always interesting to talk to my audience as I
- 2:58meet people on Zoom on the telephone.
- 3:01They call and set an appointment and
- 3:06obviously there are many people out here listening that
- 3:11haven't taken action that I talked to a fella in
- 3:15South America just a few days ago,
- 3:18Argentina. People are listening to
- 3:22my podcast. It's crazy.
- 3:26Been listening for two nights and I
- 3:30find to take some action and make
- 3:34some change. If that's you,
- 3:37let me encourage you. Go to the show notes and
- 3:42click my link. I'll be happy to take
- 3:46some time and listen to your story and talk with you.
- 3:50Maybe I can help you. But the first step is connect,
- 3:55make the connection. So let's
- 3:59talk about grief for just a few minutes. Why don't you
- 4:03just kind of set the stage so you kind of have the. The idea of
- 4:07what we talk, we're going to talk about just from a
- 4:12loss, disappointment,
- 4:16shift, something that mattered but
- 4:20wasn't fully processed. And you kept moving
- 4:24forward instead of feeling.
- 4:29Let me tell you something about divorce.
- 4:34Because as I think through this,
- 4:37from me,
- 4:41this is where this just kind of hits me
- 4:45in fights.
- 4:48And I went through my divorce,
- 4:55Gosh, 34 years ago,
- 4:59somewhere in that neighborhood,
- 5:05I was at a place where I
- 5:10had decided. Right. Wrongly. Different.
- 5:15That I did not want to be married to her anymore.
- 5:18I did not want the relationship anymore. I wanted
- 5:22something completely different.
- 5:26And so I moved out.
- 5:31It's been tough to say here, but I did.
- 5:37And we just happened to live in
- 5:41Las Vegas, Nevada. You can get a divorce in a day in Vegas
- 5:45if it's totally uncontested and get a hearing.
- 5:50Well, our case took a week.
- 5:54One week. One week. I'm going to
- 5:58tell you, I appreciate states that
- 6:02have a waiting period because it gives
- 6:06space and time for people to consider
- 6:11their actions and what they're doing.
- 6:15So within a week, we're divorced.
- 6:21What does that mean? We will heal.
- 6:25Oh, my God. We barely got the words out of my mouth.
- 6:29And I can tell you that I carried
- 6:32things and I grieved things
- 6:37for five or six years and things
- 6:43would pop up, and especially around my children.
- 6:48And we had to be around my.
- 6:52And we had to communicate and the sake of the
- 7:01And here's what you do. This is going on. Say you
- 7:06just tell yourself, I'm fine, I'm okay. It is what it is.
- 7:10It's just life. It's just divorce.
- 7:13You stay functional, you keep functioning,
- 7:19but things are unresolved.
- 7:23There's a possibility that you can never
- 7:27resolve the difference between two people,
- 7:33but there's always a possibility of resolving
- 7:38the feelings yourself.
- 7:43But there's a moment as you're going
- 7:47through this,
- 7:53There's that realization.
- 7:57But I never let myself feel the loss.
- 8:00I never grieved,
- 8:04I never gave myself time. I've seen this happen time
- 8:08and time and time again with people who go through a separation
- 8:13and divorce and they jump back in
- 8:18to another relationship before the
- 8:22ink is even dried. And, you know, I was that case.
- 8:26Okay. Did I have real
- 8:31feelings for the next person?
- 8:36And I thought I did.
- 8:39Um, but the reality is it didn't work out. Wasn't supposed to.
- 8:43And you've heard these rebound relationships,
- 8:49it's almost a coin phrase. You gotta have one so you can get over yourself,
- 8:52get over whatever you lost, get over your
- 8:57divorce, get over your spouse. But there's
- 9:00a realization when you never let ourself feel it.
- 9:05And we hit that place not intellectually, but emotional,
- 9:10emotionally. You never
- 9:15gleaned this.
- 9:19And when you see what we avoided,
- 9:26So what's the cost?
- 9:32Here's how it shows up. Unfelt grief shows up just like this.
- 9:35It's got some characteristics. Numbness,
- 9:41irritability,
- 9:44disconnection, lack of joy.
- 9:48Not because life isn't. Not because life
- 9:53is empty, but because something's
- 9:57unprocessed,
- 10:04It's undone.
- 10:09Ever felt this? You haven't gone through this process.
- 10:15Yeah, we all have. We all have.
- 10:20So what can we do to
- 10:25get through the grief process and stand back
- 10:29out and live from high heart?
- 10:36Grief is not weakness, folks.
- 10:40It's being honest about what matters.
- 10:45He matters. She math with.
- 10:49And it's probably always based around relationships
- 10:55almost all the time. Grief comes from brokenness of
- 10:59relationships, love and loss.
- 11:06Grief is a weakness.
- 11:09You got to be honest because it did matter to.
- 11:15Second thing that we made to really jump on
- 11:18top of was this. We avoided it because
- 11:24it slows us down. Here's what
- 11:32We stay busy. We double down
- 11:36on work. We stay forward focused.
- 11:41Why? Because grief requires us to
- 11:45stop and feel,
- 11:48requires stillness. If you're gonna live from your
- 11:52own heart, you got some stuff to grieve. And you're
- 11:56going to have to stop the chaos that you bring in
- 12:00to mask.
- 12:03You're just gonna have to sit still, going to have to let it flow
- 12:10through you and feel it. You may need to do some crying.
- 12:16One good cry might take
- 12:19several. Well, Les Paul, does that happen over a
- 12:24day or a week? I don't know. It's up to you.
- 12:27It depends.
- 12:32But what you don't feel, you're going to carry.
- 12:37If you don't purge this,
- 12:40you're going to carry it and it will show back
- 12:45up. Have you noticed that when you
- 12:49finally unload some of this heaviness,
- 12:53this grief, that your attitude
- 12:58towards everything about your life
- 13:03shifts to the positive side all of a
- 13:07sudden? What kind of irritated you about someone
- 13:11or something doesn't. And you, you take note
- 13:15of it and you go, oh, wow, that used to
- 13:19irritate me, but you know, it's okay. Yeah,
- 13:23that's because you've unloaded that numbness.
- 13:28Okay? And if you don't, you carry it and it shows up.
- 13:34What does it show up in just exactly what I laid
- 13:39in front of you. Our responses, our connection,
- 13:43how you show up. It shows
- 13:47up that you're carrying this grief.
- 13:50Oh my. And if you think you can have
- 13:55from a relationship world something serious without
- 13:59unloading all this, you are fooling yourself.
- 14:04You are. Until you grieve it and
- 14:08purge it you're never going to live from your own heart.
- 14:12You're always going to bring that baggage into the next
- 14:16space you're living in.
- 14:20Because when you feel it, it frees you.
- 14:24It doesn't happen instantly, but gradually over time.
- 14:28Because when you feel it, you gradually stop carrying
- 14:33that unconscious and let it go.
- 14:36Yeah. So let me ask you this question.
- 14:41What in your life have you moved
- 14:46past but you've never actually
- 14:49felt through it?
- 14:53Not what happened, not the details, but what
- 14:57did it mean to you?
- 15:01I didn't mean to.
- 15:10Does that make you stop and think,
- 15:13what? What in your life have you moved past? Never actually
- 15:17grieved, never actually felt it.
- 15:23Not what the details will remember, but what happened,
- 15:27how you felt, the angst that was in you.
- 15:38Here's what I had to do.
- 15:42I had to slow down long
- 15:46enough to feel the things that I skipped over because
- 15:52I skipped over stuff. I'm going to tell you,
- 15:56I didn't grieve my marriage.
- 16:01And it showed back up. The brokenness,
- 16:06all the things I grieved it over
- 16:11and over and over again.
- 16:14And it has taken, honestly,
- 16:19it probably took seven or eight years to slowly
- 16:24unload that and grieve it. Even when I was leading
- 16:29divorce recovery ministries and groups, a part
- 16:33of me was so grieving it as I was in it, I was hearing
- 16:37it. I had to slow down long
- 16:43enough to feel the things that I skipped over. You're going to have to slow
- 16:46down and do the same thing. Was it comfortable?
- 16:50No. But grief
- 16:54doesn't take you backwards, folks. It brings you
- 16:59back, back to what matters, back to what's real,
- 17:03back to yourself, so you
- 17:07can live from your heart, from your
- 17:11own heart, honestly and sincerely,
- 17:16deep inside your core.
- 17:20Let me encourage you, take heart this
- 17:25message, take heart this question I
- 17:29threw down at you. What in your life have
- 17:33you moved past but you've never grieved? What did
- 17:37it mean to you? Stop. Pause.
- 17:41Take some time.
- 17:45Let me encourage you, take some action. You need help. You want
- 17:49to talk about this? Go to the show notes, connect to me through my link.

- 18:08you my flounce. I hope today has
- 18:12been helpful because grief is
- 18:16the door back to
- 18:20your heart. Hey, it's Les Paul. It live from your
- 18:25heart. I hope you have a blessed day. God bless. We'll see you soon.
