- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: I've said this before.
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say it again.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: The worst part about superstitions is they work.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: They work.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you wear in the same jersey for three months.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_02]: It just, that's the way it goes.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the draft show.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm your host Adam Weiner here with fans.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: I did where we are going to be building five item groups, five moment groups, drafting the best, five weekend from specific categories.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Here join you today is Cody Williams with fanside.com and Steph Driver with fanside and NHL and we are going to be starting off.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: with sports traditions.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now guys, you can take this anyway you want specific programs, specific team specific arena specific.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: You could also just take things you'll see at a sporting event that you won't see anywhere else and you particularly enjoy running into and whoever has the best group of five wins at the end of this.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: Are you ready to go?
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: Will you ever feel ready to go?
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think is the real question.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, it's, you know, I'm worried about the competition more than anything honestly.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so excited to talk about how much better hockey is than any other sport.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: What scary is that one of us will win the other two will be shamed the order of operations.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: Cody Williams will go first.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'll take the middle pick.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: Step for advocates the wrap around and without further ado, Cody, what is your first pick in the sports traditions draft?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think I've got to go with just a classic, and that's the Lambo leap.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: When you think about the Lambo leap, it's so ubiquitous that other teams do it when they get to Lambo.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: You just got to get a piece of the Lambo leap, and it's so tied to that team, tied to the city of Green Bay.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Lambo leap is just one of the best traditions and sports, and it always draws a good reaction.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: No one's ever going to be like, no, don't leap into the crowd.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's a terrible idea.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're right, and I think that it transcended sports and has sort of become like a cultural moment.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: We all understand what Lambo leap is.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: We may not know where Lambo is.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great first overall pick.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I had to really flip through a lot.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: I've got general.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: I've got things I like to see.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a lot of teams for specific.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really a college sports above pro sports guy, but a lot of these great ones.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: are going to call it sports.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: I am going to draft Texas Tech tossing tortillas.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Now this was banned as of October 2025.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't happen anymore because I guess we finally decided I don't know what 2025 was for the lion in the sand on deciding that
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: chucking tortillas at a football field, interrupted public safety, somehow I don't remember.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't get the memo.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: It lives forever in my heart, and I would endorse, I think, another program, if it's available, should pick it up.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have to be called football, it doesn't have to be outdoors, it could be the Minnesota Timberwolves, you know, it could be in arena hockey league.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever it is, somebody should bring the tortillas back.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's my pick.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Steph, what is your first round pick, and you also get a second round on the wrap around.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so excited.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: First round pick is very general, but it is the best tradition in sports tailgating.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, you're hanging out in a parking lot with all your friends and all your new friends, eating, drinking, having fun.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes you're going to the game, sometimes you're going to watch it on TV or listen on the radio, hands down the best tradition, and the food is going to be 30 times cheaper than it would be in the arena and better.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: tailgating.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: You can't beat it, and I think that stadiums that don't allow it should not be allowed to exist.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: Second pick.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: Hockey, the Gording How Hat Trick, that is getting a goal, getting an assist, and getting in a fight that is quintessential hockey.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: You can't beat it.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let the record state.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: I left tailgating on the board in favor of something that has been banned for almost one year.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that's if you're voting at home, maybe not the way to go about this, but it's hard to think goodness tailgating not slip out of the first round.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: My second round pick.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to choose something you will see at any NFL stadium you go to.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that is being quiet while your team is on offense.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a better tradition than looking at the scoreboards to see a quiet men at work sign or like a construction motif?
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: The whole rock is crowd that just tailgated, just drank an eight is now sitting there in complete and total silence because they believe that that is what the cerebral cube needs to wear.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: The offense impossible to memorize with a wall of sound, but as soon as the crowd is
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: they'll get it right.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: So the only tradition that can turn and NFL Sunday into the U.S. Open semi-finals without the influencers being quiet while your team is on offense is my second run pick.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: Cody, what's your second run pick and then you also kick off the third round.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm very happy that both of these are still left.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: And minor more specific, so I have a feeling that some of them are going to be left for me, but I'm going with the green jacket being handed out at Augusta.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, people don't realize there isn't actual trophy that gets handed out to the winner of the masters and just like there are on the other magic championships.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: the green jacket is just symbolism for a gust of national and the masters itself.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: So the green jacket, I mean, it's iconic.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you associate with it.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a novice golf fan, you probably think the green jacket is the trophy, but it's not.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's just for tradition.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: And absolutely love that.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Then number three, you mentioned it at them.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of great traditions and college football.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: To me, they're none better than the Kinnick Wave.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: At Kinnick Stadium, the Iowa Hawkeyes players, after the first quarter, they look up at the Children's Hospital right next door, and they way to the patients who are watching from out the window.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely heartfelt and just a beautiful thing that they do every time that they're in Iowa.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting my butt absolutely kicked by heartstrings, popularity, what have you that sandwich pick is not been kind of me so far.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: That is a great one.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe that dropped to the third round.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: Football is back and the season is already moving fast.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you're just betting the spread before kick off, you are leaving most of the game on the table of my friend.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I use my bookie.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you're new to the gang, use my promo code draft show and claim your risk-free bet up to $500.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's a no-brainer.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: I've hit some monster SGP payouts on my bookie by mixing player props on one ticket.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: If you see a player matchup you love, build around it with the props builder, trust your instincts.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Another thing I really love about the set is that my bookie rewards your action with weekly cashback and bet and get offers.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: Football season moves fast.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to tell that to the Dallas Cowboys.

- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take an overarching one now to try to win some public support back the seventh inning stretch.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I also allow it if somebody wants to take like a specific seventh inning stretch later.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to step on that, but I'm just going to take the general concept of
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: mid game were two thirds of the way and you're probably anxious you're waiting for your closer to come in you don't know can't does this guy have what it takes to hold a two one lead at least I have three minutes to watch some fun scoreboard graphics stand up move around a little bit maybe here a nice little song seven that instructors my third round pick Steph third and fourth
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say, I was going to pick 7th inning stretch as one of these two.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: So now you've got me on the ropes.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: For my third round pick, I'm going to choose Buying the Commissioner.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: Now there is a big tradition in hockey and I'm sure in other sports.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Anytime Gary Batman shows up anywhere.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: For any reason, he is booed.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: so thoroughly that he has to stop talking because the Boo's are overpowering his speech at the draft when he's presenting the Stanley Cup.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: Letting these men know, we don't appreciate the way that you're running our sports league, best tradition.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: and that's followed by my fourth overall pick, which is just booing in general.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: When you can boo your own player, your own coach, the opposing team with a few thousand of your compatriots, that's how you build community, and that's how you really let you let your guys know you're not performing well enough, or we really, really don't like you.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: Smoking like you true Philadelphia who who doesn't love Boeing.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna I think you're gonna get some votes You're gonna be there will be people who are opposed who will boo that pick But I think that's outwardly correct.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's them just proving me right so once again
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: correct in my analysis.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I hate that and to show how much I hate it, let me do that activity.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, she wins.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: She wins again.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: I will go ahead and take a specific, a collegiate specific.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: Probably the only thing that will be drafted today that one rogue fan from the opposing fandom tried to kill with poison.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that is toilet papering the trees at Auburn at tumors corners.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: all disrespect to the weird old man who called in the five bombshell and admitted he tried to kill trees, but I'll do respect to the student who keep that proud traditional live after big wins.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: I have no respect for a T.P.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: and an egging on Halloween.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think those kids need to get a life, but I think if you're containing it to a college campus and you're celebrating victory, nothing wrong with that, my fourth round selection.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Now Cody take the top off and then bring us
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so for the fourth round, I'm going to do something that's near and dear to both years and my heart's adamant.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a camping out before Duke North Carolina games in that college basketball.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: Look, man, it means more than the triangle of North Carolina.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: It just really does, and camping out to just get tickets.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: not to mention camping out before the game because you want to get into this student section beforehand.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's a it's pure sports fandom.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think that's what I love about it.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously the fans show up whenever they get in the arena as well.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: Despite the fact that as someone who is in their minute 30s in camping, you don't get a good sleep.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: You really, really don't.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Your backs probably hurting.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Although I wish I was, you know, 21 years old in doing that still.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: And then last one, I'm gonna go kind of general.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to go to baseball, I'm just going to go to the rally cap, who doesn't love your team is a little boost and you think you can do something.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a superstitious guy.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: If any of my favorite teams are on a winning streak and I've been wearing a certain hat, that hat's not coming off until they did it.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: When the Red Sox went on their winning streak item, we're the same Red Sox hat for 21 straight days.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's where I'm at.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so, if we need to throw on the rally cap, we will.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: I've said this before, I'll say it again.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: The worst part about superstitions is they work.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: They work.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've never seen you do in them.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_02]: You just got it sometimes you wear in the same jersey for three months, it just, that's the way it goes.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: There is nothing dumber, but they work.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: So unfortunately, we have to believe in them.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're real.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give a shout out in my final pick.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: The one thing I did not select that I know no one's going to take off the boards.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to shout it out.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorite things in sports, the PA announcer at an NBA arena that screams the names of the players on your team when they score and softly whispers the names of the opponents to barely give them any credit.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's the funniest thing in sports and may it live forever.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: But my actual pick will be the New York Yankees playing New York New York at the end.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's the Frank Sinatra version.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's the theme from New York, New York.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: They used to play the Liza Manelli version when they lost.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: That is mean that version actually came first too.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: So shout out Frank.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad that we play Frank.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad that we no longer play Liza when people are going home disappointed.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe there's a way to incorporate both in victory, but for now playing the theme from New York, New York at the end of Yankees wins.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: Is iconic to me.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, always made a lot to me and people are going to hate that pic because people hate my team, but you know what?
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: you didn't pick the roll call, which I think would have been the universally hated pick.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: A year in New York is a good tradition.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: Even I as a Red Sox fan can respect it.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think we'd have to go into their 20 rounds for me to be scrounding the bottom of their skin roll call.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I still would I be picking the NBA PDA and I'll do it before I pick that.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: But a good shout out nonetheless, Steph, finish us off your fifth and final pick in these sports traditions draft.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: The fans throwing their hats on the ice for a hat trick.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe we made it to the fifth round without throwing our hats on the ice.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's, they're collected, they're putting museums.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes they'll throw other things on the ice too and that's just as fun when we're talking about a hat trick.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: You score three goals, you get all of the hats in the arena.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's so fun.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's it's probably the most mainstream hockey thing that we all would have picked and we didn't select the octopi throw into trade.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: So again, if anyone is going to press back against us try to beat our groups go ahead and beat us that one's on the table for you plenty of other great traditions.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to split court storm didn't get taken.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, generic and specific, crash and frank on street.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: So if anybody wants to try to top Cody, Stefan I, in our sports traditions draft, let us know way in in the comments.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: Until next time, I'm Adam Wider before Cody Williams and Steph Driver with a fan-sided draft show.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: Take care, everybody.
