- 0:09Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, presented by
- 0:12Speaker 1: FanDuel Predicts. My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening
- 0:16Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:20Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:22Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:25Speaker 1: a hater. We will talk about the most exciting playoff
- 0:29Speaker 1: series in my recent memory in just a few. First,
- 0:32Speaker 1: we got a lot like it was a very, very
- 0:35Speaker 1: interesting weekend of NBA basketball. I want to say, James Harden,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you did your part. You really, really did your part.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And your teammates prevented you from doing your part. Now, obviously,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm not talking about doing your part to help your
- 0:56Speaker 1: team make it to the Eastern Conference finals. Like, obviously,
- 1:00Speaker 1: your teammates did their part to help get to the
- 1:02Speaker 1: Eastern Conference finals. And, you know, you did what you do.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'm talking about your part for us. You know what
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm saying? People I hear that do TV shows and stuff. Sometimes,
- 1:13Speaker 1: if we can, me and Ryan like to record the
- 1:16Speaker 1: show on Sunday night. It makes it easier for people
- 1:18Speaker 1: to package it, produce it, turn it back around. But
- 1:20Speaker 1: if there's something important that's going on on Sunday night,
- 1:23Speaker 1: then we can't do it. And then we get up
- 1:25Speaker 1: Monday morning, and then we do the show. And so
- 1:27Speaker 1: we had this game at... 7, 8 o'clock, whatever time
- 1:30Speaker 1: it came on last night, and we was like, damn, nah,
- 1:33Speaker 1: we gonna need to wait until the morning in order
- 1:35Speaker 1: to record, but I'm gonna be perfectly honest with you.
- 1:37Speaker 1: If we knew that the Cavs was just gonna whoop
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Pistons' ass, we'd have recorded last night and then
- 1:42Speaker 1: got up and been like, oh, the Cavs beat the Pistons' ass,
- 1:45Speaker 1: because the truth is, y'all don't really care about that.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, it dawned on me
- 1:51Speaker 1: after the game. I was like, oh, damn. Donovan Mitchell
- 1:54Speaker 1: finally got himself to the conference finals. Like, he has
- 1:57Speaker 1: managed to live his whole NBA career in places that
- 2:01Speaker 1: we don't really care about that much. Like, we cared
- 2:03Speaker 1: about LeBron in Cleveland, but we don't care about, like, Cleveland, Cleveland.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You know, nobody looks at Brad Doherty and is like, damn,
- 2:10Speaker 1: number one pick and you never got to the finals, right?
- 2:13Speaker 1: We just don't care that much about what's going on
- 2:16Speaker 1: over there. And I guess it's a very similar situation
- 2:19Speaker 1: with the Pistons. Either way it goes. If they win
- 2:22Speaker 1: that game by 30 points, that means it's not even
- 2:25Speaker 1: really an exciting game. Ain't nobody really waking up in
- 2:28Speaker 1: the morning like, oh, damn, did you watch the game
- 2:30Speaker 1: last night? Because I probably turned that shit off about 9.30.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, that don't really feed
- 2:36Speaker 1: our beast the same way. Although, shout out to you,
- 2:39Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell. Way to finally get to the conference finals.
- 2:45Speaker 1: But Jim Horton doing something like going two for 10
- 2:49Speaker 1: with only nine points. Ordinarily, Ryan, we could get a
- 2:53Speaker 1: half hour worth of content off of that shit. Instead, no,
- 2:56Speaker 1: they won by 30 points.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Easy. Easy half hour.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Right, right. Like, he did what he was supposed to do.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And it was going to justify our decision to adjust
- 3:09Speaker 1: what we would prefer to do as a recording strategy.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I just want to tell him, I don't want him
- 3:15Speaker 1: to think that I don't notice anything. That he did
- 3:19Speaker 1: his part for everybody else. Because, I mean, let's be
- 3:23Speaker 1: real about it at this point. Especially now that he
- 3:25Speaker 1: done fell out with Daryl Morey. Don't nobody really want
- 3:29Speaker 1: to see James Harden do good except for James Harden.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I don't wish ill upon him.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Correct.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I don't want him to fail. I just have absolutely
- 3:43Speaker 1: nothing to gain from him overcoming his shit.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Him staying the same buddy.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 1: That's excellence for us. Him getting it one time, it
- 3:56Speaker 1: don't change what has happened the whole time. You understand
- 3:59Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Like, it doesn't actually alter. People are like, well,
- 4:02Speaker 1: would this change what you think of him? Doing this
- 4:05Speaker 1: shit one time would change what I've been thinking for
- 4:07Speaker 1: 17 years? Is that what you're asking me? No, not really.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Not really.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Instead.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I was up here like, shit, what are we going
- 4:15Speaker 1: to talk about? Because it was such a blowout, right?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Maybe that's what it is. I didn't think they had
- 4:20Speaker 1: it in them. I thought that the Pistons had blown
- 4:23Speaker 1: that series with that indefensible collapse that they had at
- 4:27Speaker 1: the end of Game 5.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Right?
- 4:29Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, wow, this is over. And then...
- 4:32Speaker 1: calves calved and they went out there and lost that
- 4:34Speaker 1: game at home and so i thought detroit was gonna
- 4:37Speaker 1: come in here make it happen and then detroit new
- 4:39Speaker 1: york would have been a very divinity goodwill invitational right
- 4:42Speaker 1: as i like to call that that would have been
- 4:43Speaker 1: a very very very interesting series for a number of
- 4:47Speaker 1: reasons right and all the calves calves got up i
- 4:51Speaker 1: was talking to the homie jason and he wasn't able
- 4:53Speaker 1: to catch the game and uh Yeah, he saw Harden
- 4:56Speaker 1: wasn't playing well. I was like, yeah, but they whooping
- 5:00Speaker 1: that ass. And he said, well, who's doing all the scoring?
- 5:04Speaker 1: And I said, everybody else. And then sent him a
- 5:08Speaker 1: snapshot of the box score at the moment, which was
- 5:11Speaker 1: basically everybody else getting buckets. Even Sam Merrill, whom.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Is it possible that his daddy is somebody, his family
- 5:24Speaker 1: was like the Merrill for Merrill Lynch?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Or maybe those are different Merrills.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, or is Merrill, no, no, it's the same spelling.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Oh, really? I thought it was a one R, two
- 5:33Speaker 2: R situation.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Well, it's the same spelling. The question is whether or
- 5:37Speaker 1: not Merrill Lynch was a person or it was two
- 5:39Speaker 1: of them.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yes, or Merrill and Lynch.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. Like it was like, I don't really
- 5:43Speaker 1: have the answer for that. But you can never be
- 5:45Speaker 1: sure with athletic white boys, right?
- 5:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Athletic black people, you'd be assuming they came from the
- 5:50Speaker 1: hardest scrabble of environments. Athletic white boys be like David Duvall,
- 5:55Speaker 1: like Duvall County. They'd be going back all kinds of places.
- 6:00Speaker 1: You'd be like, damn, okay, right? But anyway, good for them.
- 6:06Speaker 1: They made that happen. I don't really know what they
- 6:08Speaker 1: got for the Knicks, but I mean, look, here's my
- 6:12Speaker 1: question about the Knicks in that regard, Ron. I'm curious
- 6:14Speaker 1: what you think about this. They have been so dominant.
- 6:18Speaker 1: these last seven games that they've played, it didn't feel
- 6:21Speaker 1: like luck. It didn't feel like heat. It felt like
- 6:24Speaker 1: a really good team got really good.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Especially because they changed their style of play so much.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But do we throw it all out the window if
- 6:32Speaker 1: they lose game one? Like, how much does it take?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah, what it takes is Don Mitchell scoring 45 in
- 6:40Speaker 2: the garden. And yes, yes. And then we throw most
- 6:43Speaker 2: of it out.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Because look, there is that. That's a serious angle here.
- 6:47Speaker 1: The whole Donovan Mitchell-Knicks angle, right? Like, it is there.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But I think about this, and as good as the
- 6:54Speaker 1: Knicks have played, as well as this has rolled, something
- 6:57Speaker 1: I will never forget as long as I live, the
- 6:59Speaker 1: 2012 playoffs. The San Antonio Spurs, counting the regular season,
- 7:05Speaker 1: were up 2-0 against the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and were on literally a 20-game winning streak. and lost
- 7:16Speaker 1: four in a row because the Thunder kept calling the
- 7:20Speaker 1: same play over and over again, that pin down, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: the Spurs couldn't do nothing with it because it was Westbrook, Durant,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Harden deployed in positions that left you with no, what
- 7:30Speaker 1: are we supposed to do here, right? What does it take?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Because the Knicks fans are excited, right? But they're also
- 7:38Speaker 1: playing against the Cavaliers, right? The non-LeBron Cavaliers. It's kind
- 7:43Speaker 1: of like I was talking to a friend with the
- 7:44Speaker 1: Hawks and the Knicks were playing, and she was like,
- 7:46Speaker 1: how's the game going? And I was like, it's the
- 7:47Speaker 1: Hawks and the Knicks, so nobody really wants to win. Now,
- 7:51Speaker 1: these are teams that can taste it. We got the
- 7:53Speaker 1: other part, too. Ryan, you mentioned this before the show.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I'm pretty axiomatic about the limitations of small guards. This
- 8:01Speaker 1: is small guard versus small guard, right? This is also
- 8:05Speaker 1: an element of Donovan Mitchell. Got to look at Jalen
- 8:09Speaker 1: Brunson like, how does it feel to be me that
- 8:15Speaker 1: was supposed to be Donovan Mitchell right like Jalen Brunson
- 8:17Speaker 1: really came in there and turned into what they would
- 8:20Speaker 1: hope Donovan Mitchell had been like at this point I
- 8:22Speaker 1: don't think Knicks fans would trade Jalen Brunson for Donovan
- 8:25Speaker 1: Mitchell but how many of the rest of us would.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I think that's interesting. I think it's right.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It's a fair, like which, who would you take at
- 8:34Speaker 1: this point? I mean, at what, at some point, Jalen
- 8:36Speaker 1: Brunson has to stop being where he was drafted. Right.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Like he has to stop being in our minds, what
- 8:41Speaker 1: he was when he came into the league. I mean,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell is not like, you know, we thought that
- 8:45Speaker 1: he was going, he was the number three pick in
- 8:47Speaker 1: the draft or anything like that. But I still think
- 8:49Speaker 1: that there's a way that we view Donovan Mitchell as
- 8:51Speaker 1: like having a superstar potential where I think we still
- 8:54Speaker 1: view Jalen Brunson as a bit of a yeoman, but,
- 8:57Speaker 1: They both 6'1, 6'2, guards.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah, 6'2, max.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they're kind of the same. They have different games,
- 9:04Speaker 1: but they're kind of the same guy. Well, looks like
- 9:07Speaker 1: one of them is going to have to go to
- 9:10Speaker 1: the NBA finals, right? The Knicks should win it, obviously.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I mean, the big thing with the Knicks is Karl-Anthony
- 9:18Speaker 1: Towns and Mitchell Robinson are so much bigger than Evan
- 9:21Speaker 1: Mobley and Jared Allen.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the weird series where Karl-Anthony Towns is the
- 9:28Speaker 2: big man, not the tall man.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Hey, man, I don't think anybody is redeeming himself quite
- 9:35Speaker 1: like Karl-Anthony Towns is in this. Because what I've been saying,
- 9:40Speaker 1: he has to be their best player for them to win, right?
- 9:42Speaker 1: And not just he has to play the best. He
- 9:45Speaker 1: has to be the Knicks best player for them to win.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And what has happened quietly, he has become their best player.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Like we're running the offense through him. He's the hub
- 9:58Speaker 1: of the offense. That's what you do with your best player, right?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson can be treated as the guy that gets
- 10:05Speaker 1: the shots and everything else, da-da-da. They seem to have
- 10:08Speaker 1: figured out a way that allows room for both, right?
- 10:12Speaker 1: For Towns to be their best player in a capacity
- 10:15Speaker 1: that he seems to be able to live up to.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And let Jalen Brunson be a little close, you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: just to what we think of Jalen Brunson as being, right?
- 10:23Speaker 1: But just as I say, will it only take one
- 10:26Speaker 1: bad game for you to jump off the bandwagon of
- 10:28Speaker 1: what the Knicks have been doing? There's also that with
- 10:32Speaker 1: our buddy Carl.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yes.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You know? But, counterpoint, can Cavaliers do anything to make
- 10:40Speaker 1: Towns have to guard people? Because that's the shortcoming with him.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Like, primarily is like, weird defensive decisions. Can you make
- 10:47Speaker 1: him have to foul people? Can you make him?
- 10:49Speaker 2: Because he wants to.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Badly.
- 10:52Speaker 2: So badly.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Badly. But I mean, I imagine that what they do
- 10:56Speaker 1: is they have him guard Jared Allen, which means he
- 10:58Speaker 1: doesn't really have to do that much.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Right. Right.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But also, do you want to leave him as rim protector?
- 11:03Speaker 1: Because you don't want him necessarily doing that.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I mean, this is going to be an interesting one. Also,
- 11:09Speaker 1: Mike Brown fired twice by the Cleveland Cavaliers under circumstances
- 11:13Speaker 1: that weren't really that fair.
- 11:15Speaker 3: It's true.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I forgot about that. The Mike Brown redemption.
- 11:19Speaker 1: JB Biggerstaff, fired by the Cavaliers under circumstances that weren't
- 11:23Speaker 1: necessarily that fair. You know he wanted that one bad. Bad.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They just got their asses kicked.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But also, I want to say this to James Harden,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and I need him to understand this. Yes, while I
- 11:36Speaker 1: said that maybe I was over here for my own
- 11:40Speaker 1: selfish reasons, not hoping that he didn't play well, but
- 11:45Speaker 1: prepared to capitalize on the moment.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Right. The moment he did not capitalize on. We were
- 11:51Speaker 2: prepared to do that in his stead.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yes, we were there. But again, he really did give
- 11:54Speaker 1: it a go. By the way, I read off those
- 11:56Speaker 1: stats for him and how poor they were. Do you
- 11:59Speaker 1: know what his plus minus was?
- 12:01Speaker 2: I saw it, yeah.
- 12:02Speaker 1: A plus 31. I saw. Okay. Guess he did something. Man,
- 12:11Speaker 1: we were so thirsty for mess. that they was mad
- 12:14Speaker 1: at the Ant-Man for acknowledging the obvious. Now, like, I
- 12:18Speaker 1: wasn't watching that game because I was doing a show
- 12:20Speaker 1: in Atlanta. Put a pin in that thought. I'm going
- 12:22Speaker 1: to tell you guys something about that a little later
- 12:23Speaker 1: in the show. I was doing a show in Atlanta.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I looked up, saw what the score was. The Spurs
- 12:27Speaker 1: decided that they were done fooling around with Minnesota, and
- 12:30Speaker 1: apparently Minnesota went as far as they went. And, well,
- 12:35Speaker 1: that next thing I'll wait to break out. However, I
- 12:38Speaker 1: heard about this. Anthony Edwards went with eight minutes left
- 12:40Speaker 1: in the game. dapped up the Spurs bench and then
- 12:44Speaker 1: sat down and Dirk Nowitzki and Udonis Haslam chastised him
- 12:49Speaker 1: and said that he showed poor leadership and showed weakness
- 12:53Speaker 1: in that moment and that you should never allow your
- 12:55Speaker 1: team to see you show weakness. Ryan, correct me if
- 12:58Speaker 1: I'm wrong, but wasn't Minnesota losing by 75 points?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Around there.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Like, it was over, right?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Where they were only in the situation because Anthony Edwards
- 13:08Speaker 2: dragged them there with a bum knee.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yo, I mean, Edwards said, look, man, I wasn't going
- 13:13Speaker 1: back in the game. I did not think I was
- 13:15Speaker 1: going back in the game. And you know why Anthony
- 13:16Speaker 1: Edwards wasn't going back in the game? Because that shit
- 13:19Speaker 1: was over. What was the leadership that he was supposed
- 13:22Speaker 1: to show in that game that he wasn't going back into?
- 13:25Speaker 1: Was he supposed to be out there with Jack Haley
- 13:27Speaker 1: with the towel, mate, spinning like a helicopter? It was
- 13:33Speaker 1: obvious that game was over. I thought that he demonstrated, like,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I thought that was actually a standup sort of move.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Like the thing that, as I saw the, the criticism
- 13:45Speaker 1: from the players about that, the reason it struck me
- 13:50Speaker 1: was I am one of those people that like to
- 13:54Speaker 1: chastise the youth a little bit. You know what I mean?
- 13:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:57Speaker 1: You say it again. You, you, you just, but I'm
- 14:02Speaker 1: not really chastising them. I, chest ass and y'all and
- 14:06Speaker 1: by y'all i mean they parents like y'all are that
- 14:08Speaker 1: age now these are these are your kids okay yeah
- 14:11Speaker 1: right and a lot of this shit is your fault
- 14:14Speaker 1: and you know it okay but when i think about
- 14:18Speaker 1: what's you know what we're looking at these playoffs are
- 14:20Speaker 1: like who's left or whatever um i'm thinking about in
- 14:23Speaker 1: particular shea victor and anthony edwards I think one of
- 14:29Speaker 1: the coolest things the NBA has going for it as
- 14:32Speaker 1: it stands is that their young guys who are at
- 14:35Speaker 1: the top of the league also appear to be excellent leaders.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And not just excellent leaders, but guys who want to
- 14:42Speaker 1: take the responsibility and are willing to, right? Like, I
- 14:46Speaker 1: understand when people get mad at Stephen A. Smith where
- 14:48Speaker 1: he says that Kawhi Leonard is the worst example of
- 14:50Speaker 1: a superstar that this league has ever had. But I
- 14:53Speaker 1: get what he's saying and may even agree. Because the
- 14:57Speaker 1: one thing, Kawhi just want to hoop and go home
- 14:59Speaker 1: while also making all the money, while also showing up late, right?
- 15:04Speaker 1: While also, no, no, no. I respect these guys willing
- 15:09Speaker 1: to be the guy, right, and who understand this. Anthony Edwards,
- 15:14Speaker 1: he appears to be not just like some good leader,
- 15:17Speaker 1: a willing leader, an excellent leader, a guy who has
- 15:20Speaker 1: empowered dudes like Carl Anthony Towns, who has empowered Rudy Gobert,
- 15:25Speaker 1: who got to drag Eeyore around with this particular team.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Like when Nas Reed after the game was talking about,
- 15:31Speaker 1: you know, we got to be a little less moody.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Every Knicks fan knew exactly who he was talking about.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And he was talking about Julius Rand. And that's what
- 15:38Speaker 1: you asked Anthony Edwards. And dragged him through on one leg.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Got him to the conference finals two years in a
- 15:44Speaker 1: row with rosters that none of us think have any
- 15:47Speaker 1: chance of winning a championship.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Took down Jokic twice and LeBron.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Took down everybody. Took down Kevin Durant.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Yeah. Right?
- 15:56Speaker 1: He's the legend killer. He's gone through and taken all
- 15:58Speaker 1: these people down at all of these points. Hey, man,
- 16:02Speaker 1: they were going to lose the game. The game was over,
- 16:06Speaker 1: but we were so thirsty for some mess, right? Because
- 16:09Speaker 1: that's the thing about a blowout. There's nothing to talk about.
- 16:12Speaker 1: So thirsty for some mess that people were there making
- 16:15Speaker 1: an argument about how, no, man, I don't think that
- 16:18Speaker 1: he was, that that was demonstrating good leadership. My good friend,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Jamel Hill, she made the same point. And on one
- 16:26Speaker 1: of the apps, and LZ Granderson came over. I forget
- 16:31Speaker 1: what he said, something that kind of pushed back on it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Jamel said that Ant-Man should have been on the bench. Oh,
- 16:36Speaker 1: he was talking about how Gobert and Randall didn't show up.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Jamel said he should have been on the bench, Cousin
- 16:43Speaker 1: Gobert and Randall out. I'm like, what, to get them
- 16:45Speaker 1: ready for a potential do or die game nine? Yes.
- 16:49Speaker 1: It was over. It's over. It was over. Let me
- 16:54Speaker 1: dap them up now so that when 5 o'clock come,
- 16:57Speaker 1: I can get right in my car and I can
- 16:59Speaker 1: go home.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:00Speaker 1: That was dope. That dude has demonstrated leadership bona fides
- 17:04Speaker 1: in a way where rather than question him in that moment,
- 17:07Speaker 1: we should be just asking him. You know? Tell me,
- 17:11Speaker 1: how is it that you deal with these cats, right?
- 17:14Speaker 1: How did you guys go win that game one? against
- 17:17Speaker 1: San Antonio on the road with you on one leg, right?
- 17:21Speaker 1: He's like, my guys play better when I'm in here.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And knowing that, Chris Finch was like, take a load off, brother. Yeah.
- 17:31Speaker 1: No need to keep up this charade.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's over. What are we doing?
- 17:36Speaker 1: What are we doing? This is all it was. So, yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 1: we was ready for you, James Harden. We was so
- 17:41Speaker 1: hungry for you that we jumped on that before we
- 17:43Speaker 1: even got to it. Thank you. Thank you. But it
- 17:48Speaker 1: turned out that we had already eaten. We didn't have
- 17:51Speaker 1: what we need. But don't you worry. You get to
- 17:53Speaker 1: play against the New York Knicks. Plenty, plenty of time
- 17:57Speaker 1: for one of two things to happen. Him to completely
- 17:59Speaker 1: redeem himself. LOL. Or he's about to be on the
- 18:06Speaker 1: biggest stage. All right, Ryan. This is it. This is
- 18:17Speaker 1: the series. This is the one we've been waiting on
- 18:19Speaker 1: all year long, right? Like there was a point during
- 18:22Speaker 1: the season where we had a turn where we said
- 18:24Speaker 1: to ourselves, oh, wait a minute. No, San Antonio might
- 18:29Speaker 1: be this good, right? Like I don't think, I think
- 18:33Speaker 1: the majority of us thought next year would be the
- 18:37Speaker 1: more likely time that they began to make a leap
- 18:39Speaker 1: like this because they had not won a playoff series.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Especially when Wimby starts off the year Correct. Correct.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Right.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And we weren't exactly sure how that was going to go. Right.
- 18:49Speaker 1: But like, we got to think about this. For example,
- 18:51Speaker 1: the Shaq and Penny magic, they made it to the
- 18:55Speaker 1: NBA finals, their second year together in the playoffs. But
- 19:00Speaker 1: the first year they got swept in the first round.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, these things take steps. Like I was thinking
- 19:05Speaker 1: about that with respect to the Shaq and Kobe Lakers.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Like it's easy to forget that that was a long climb.
- 19:11Speaker 1: This is a different NBA, but I don't, I don't
- 19:15Speaker 1: think that I thought that this team was good enough
- 19:18Speaker 1: to get to the conference finals or to consistently be
- 19:21Speaker 1: a top two, top three seed. I didn't think they
- 19:24Speaker 1: were there because I just didn't think their other guys
- 19:27Speaker 1: were quite that good. And I mean, they appear to
- 19:30Speaker 1: be that good. But the other part is Victor is
- 19:34Speaker 1: better than. then I did not think that he was
- 19:37Speaker 1: ready to do things as he has done them. And
- 19:40Speaker 1: I don't think I truly gave enough credit to how
- 19:43Speaker 1: good he could be defensively. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 19:58Speaker 1: He might be the best defensive player of all time.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Like he can guard the ball, the pass, the rim,
- 20:05Speaker 1: the mirror at the same damn time. All of these
- 20:08Speaker 1: grown men, petrified, terrified, unsure, and just saying it after
- 20:14Speaker 1: the game like it's a matter of fact. I ain't
- 20:17Speaker 1: never seen a show like this before. Yeah. What are
- 20:19Speaker 1: we supposed to do?
- 20:20Speaker 2: What are we supposed to do? He's eight feet tall.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Right. And he appears to be able, like you think
- 20:26Speaker 1: about it when the guys can just like lock in
- 20:29Speaker 1: and decide they're going to score 30 or something like that.
- 20:32Speaker 1: There's something to be said about a guy that can decide,
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'm going to lock in and nobody's getting anything.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I can lock in and take over half side
- 20:39Speaker 2: of the court like I'm Darrell Rivas.
- 20:40Speaker 1: No, but what if Rivas could guard a radius, like
- 20:45Speaker 1: a circumference?
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Right?
- 20:47Speaker 1: Like a circle.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:50Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 20:50Speaker 3: A circle.
- 20:51Speaker 1: He can do that. That's what's going on here. And
- 20:54Speaker 1: now we have got the Thunder who saw Brian Windhorst
- 20:59Speaker 1: make this point. Ryan, I know you're a little too
- 21:01Speaker 1: young for this. They're about to give shade, that MVP,
- 21:05Speaker 1: in front of Victor.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yep.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Shades of giving David Robinson the MVP in front of
- 21:13Speaker 1: Akeem Olajuwon. Now, it's important to note, it's not simply
- 21:20Speaker 1: that they gave the MVP to David Robinson in front
- 21:22Speaker 1: of Olajuwon, who did not deserve the MVP that year.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I don't think he played enough games, as I recall.
- 21:29Speaker 1: The issue is, was that Robinson gave a speech where
- 21:34Speaker 1: he gave credit to the great big men who came
- 21:37Speaker 1: before him and he left out one guy.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Of course.
- 21:44Speaker 1: He left out Akeem Olajuwon. That, that there, that was the,
- 21:51Speaker 1: that was the mistake.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:53Speaker 1: And then that's when Olajuwon, quite honestly, ruined David Robinson's
- 21:59Speaker 1: reputation forever. never been the same. We talked about this
- 22:04Speaker 1: the other day. David Robinson was so cold. It was
- 22:08Speaker 1: always out there, just him and his lonesome. Right? It
- 22:11Speaker 1: was not like David and Olajuwon rendered that. By the way,
- 22:15Speaker 1: the Rockets won the first two games of that series,
- 22:17Speaker 1: and they ultimately won the series in six games, but
- 22:19Speaker 1: they won the first two games in San Antonio. The
- 22:21Speaker 1: Spurs came back and won the next two games at
- 22:23Speaker 1: the Summit. Right? None of that mattered. All that anybody
- 22:27Speaker 1: remembers is that one particular up fake where it looked
- 22:30Speaker 1: like Olajuwon went through his legs. to get that layup.
- 22:34Speaker 1: It did everything. Perhaps shades of that in this. Because
- 22:39Speaker 1: I think an important difference is I never got the
- 22:43Speaker 1: feeling that Olajuwon hated David Robinson. Victor hates these guys.
- 22:50Speaker 1: They all seem to hate Oklahoma City. I'm assuming Oklahoma
- 22:55Speaker 1: City hates them back, but I don't know if they're.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I don't know if they're up for that kind of emotion.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't... I mean, they need to figure it
- 23:03Speaker 1: out if they're not.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Cause I mean, I don't know if you guys been
- 23:05Speaker 1: seeing that shit. Jalen Williams been wearing to the games,
- 23:07Speaker 1: but he don't look like he can hate a soul.
- 23:11Speaker 1: He looked like he, he loved everybody. Like that, that, that, that, that, that,
- 23:15Speaker 1: that shade of salmon on that little ass jacket is
- 23:18Speaker 1: not one of a man who hates.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Just doesn't work that way. You know what I mean?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Like you ain't getting no job at Benetton hating people. Just,
- 23:27Speaker 1: it's just, that's just not how things work. I understand it.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And it's cool. Um, But the Thunder, I mean, they're
- 23:33Speaker 1: in one of the great runs of NBA history, it
- 23:34Speaker 1: looks like, right? The level of regular season success they have.
- 23:38Speaker 1: The fact they won this year, what, 64 games? And
- 23:40Speaker 1: this is without their second best player? Like, if Chet
- 23:44Speaker 1: Holmgren is their third best player, if that's the case,
- 23:47Speaker 1: or if Jalen Williams is your third best player, dude,
- 23:52Speaker 1: what are we talking about here? Because it's easy to
- 23:54Speaker 1: kind of look at them as just a collection of dudes, right?
- 23:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Like a lot. And they do have like a lot
- 23:59Speaker 1: of high level role player action going on there. But
- 24:02Speaker 1: they're really, really good at the top end. But the
- 24:04Speaker 1: Spurs are too. Like I I've seen the theory that
- 24:09Speaker 1: Lou Dort is the guy to guard Victor just because,
- 24:12Speaker 1: you know, how he be how he be acting. You know,
- 24:15Speaker 1: like the idea is just to get him to be
- 24:17Speaker 1: out there muscling Victor. Okay, so who's going to muscle Castle?
- 24:20Speaker 1: Who's going to muscle Vassal? I know his name is
- 24:22Speaker 1: not Vassal, but I just like calling him Castle and Vassal, right?
- 24:24Speaker 1: Like who's going to do something with those guys? Spurs
- 24:27Speaker 1: got a lot of dudes that you got to pay
- 24:29Speaker 1: attention to. Then you got Fox with all that speed.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Dylan Harper, who is exceeding what one would expect from
- 24:35Speaker 1: a rookie under these circumstances. Luke Cornett's not the toughest
- 24:39Speaker 1: guy in the world, but my point is they got
- 24:41Speaker 1: size other than Victor. Like they got dudes. that they
- 24:45Speaker 1: can roll out here, this is going to be excellent.
- 24:48Speaker 1: It's going to be murder on the people that got
- 24:51Speaker 1: to catch these little puddle jumpers in order to get
- 24:53Speaker 1: to the game, like a 15-minute flight from San Antonio
- 24:56Speaker 1: to Dallas in a 15-minute flight. It'd just feel like
- 24:58Speaker 1: a waste. But anyway, it's here. I cannot wait, and
- 25:04Speaker 1: I have no idea who's going to win it. I
- 25:06Speaker 1: guess I could come out here and throw out some pick.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I just, I would like to think Me and my
- 25:12Speaker 1: man Rod talk about this a lot. And his question
- 25:15Speaker 1: is whether experience matters as much as it used to
- 25:17Speaker 1: in the NBA because of the parody and the kind
- 25:20Speaker 1: of like turnover that we're having with who's good and
- 25:22Speaker 1: who's not. There's the fact that the Spurs not have
- 25:24Speaker 1: any experience going against the defending champions. How much does
- 25:29Speaker 1: that matter? The defending champions part should matter. And just
- 25:33Speaker 1: about everything we know about the ascension and stories of
- 25:37Speaker 1: guys like Victor, you got to bang your head at
- 25:39Speaker 1: least once. on the way to the top. And remember,
- 25:42Speaker 1: the reason they didn't get to have anything close to
- 25:44Speaker 1: a headbanger last year is because he got hurt. He
- 25:46Speaker 1: had the thrombosis that slowed him down. It hasn't happened yet.
- 25:54Speaker 1: History would indicate that this is the time that it would.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I can't bring myself to say it. I just can't.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Am I being a coward by saying I just want
- 26:08Speaker 1: to watch and see who wins? Because I need you
- 26:10Speaker 1: to understand, I want the Spurs to win. And you
- 26:17Speaker 1: have to understand this. My mama is from Oklahoma City.
- 26:23Speaker 1: The general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder helped an
- 26:27Speaker 1: initiative that built a statue of my mama in Oklahoma City.
- 26:34Speaker 1: And I still want Oklahoma City to lose. That's how
- 26:40Speaker 1: much I hate that shit they be doing. I hate
- 26:46Speaker 1: it so much.
- 26:48Speaker 3: What?
- 26:48Speaker 1: It gets on my nerves. Like, I was watching that
- 26:51Speaker 1: with James Harden.
- 26:52Speaker 2: That shit.
- 26:52Speaker 1: His thing, we always act like somebody punched him in
- 26:54Speaker 1: the face. And look, I saw Victor engaged in some
- 26:57Speaker 1: of them shenanigans, too. Nah, Mr. Ethical Basketball. You not
- 27:01Speaker 1: allowed to do that. Stand tall. Be an example. Be
- 27:05Speaker 1: bigger than them. That's your whole brand.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Right?
- 27:07Speaker 1: Be bigger than that. Be bigger than them. Because these
- 27:10Speaker 1: suckers about to be out here doing all that fouling
- 27:12Speaker 1: and doing all that flopping. And I hate you. I... See, now...
- 27:20Speaker 1: I kind of hate. It's going to sound terrible. I
- 27:26Speaker 1: hate that Victor wasted his elbow in the last series
- 27:29Speaker 1: because if you do it again, they definitely go to suspension. Yes. Right?
- 27:33Speaker 1: But if he had got.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Essentially against Lou Dort who deserves it more.
- 27:36Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. If he had done that in
- 27:39Speaker 1: the first quarter against Lou Dort and they threw him
- 27:41Speaker 1: out the game, I'm going to be honest with you.
- 27:43Speaker 1: They might have started to go fund me around the
- 27:46Speaker 1: league to get him his money back. I'm going to
- 27:48Speaker 1: tell you this on the other end though. You might
- 27:50Speaker 1: elbow Lou Dort and just pop your shit out of joint. Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 1: That is a giant, giant man. I said it was
- 27:58Speaker 1: that if Lou Dort grew up in Mississippi, Lou Dort
- 27:59Speaker 1: would be an edge rusher somewhere. And somehow people got
- 28:01Speaker 1: mad at me about this. I'm like, what are you
- 28:02Speaker 1: talking about? That's a football player. Yeah. I know a
- 28:07Speaker 1: football player when I.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Because he's built like a football player and he plays
- 28:10Speaker 2: basketball like a football player does.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but see, that's the other thing, though, about Victor
- 28:13Speaker 1: with the Thunder. Because they're so deep, they're going to
- 28:15Speaker 1: be sending dudes out there to foul. Like Jalen Williams,
- 28:19Speaker 1: the one who daddy looked like he in the Army.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Or who looked like his daddy in the Army. That one. Yes,
- 28:26Speaker 1: that's what I mean. That guy. That's six fouls.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Um... Um.
- 28:34Speaker 1: My man, bright-skinned Hartenstein. That's what he called himself. Don't
- 28:39Speaker 1: get on me about that. He called himself bright-skinned. He
- 28:41Speaker 1: said he'd go past light-skinned all the way to bright-skinned.
- 28:44Speaker 1: He got six. I mean, Cech got six to offer.
- 28:48Speaker 1: He got to be a little bit more judicious.
- 28:50Speaker 2: He's got at least four.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and then all them other dudes. They like shit.
- 28:54Speaker 1: We can foul, too. I don't think there's any question.
- 28:57Speaker 1: We saw Minnesota try it. And now, again, since Victor
- 29:01Speaker 1: used up his elbow... That one's off the board for
- 29:05Speaker 1: right now. You're not going to be able to do it.
- 29:07Speaker 1: But I will say this. The NBA need to watch out.
- 29:11Speaker 1: This is the summer camp that needs to get started
- 29:15Speaker 1: that nobody's talked about. Let me double check and make
- 29:17Speaker 1: sure that it's possible to have this summer camp open
- 29:20Speaker 1: because it might be too late. But I think it's
- 29:22Speaker 1: still time. Oh, okay, cool. He's still in the league.
- 29:24Speaker 3: All right.
- 29:25Speaker 1: So you know how them cats be going down there
- 29:27Speaker 1: and they work out with Olajuwon. And I'm convinced that
- 29:29Speaker 1: when they work out with Olajuwon, the only thing that
- 29:31Speaker 1: you learn is that there's only one Akeem Olajuwon. And
- 29:35Speaker 1: I assure you, he ain't doing it for free. I
- 29:39Speaker 1: used to live in... Nigeria, partner. He ain't doing it
- 29:42Speaker 1: for free. But cats go down there. Victor, by the way,
- 29:46Speaker 1: seemed to be one of the rare guys that may
- 29:47Speaker 1: have picked something up from his time doing that. But whatever.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Olajuwon is not the only center that you can go
- 29:56Speaker 1: work out with. And It really dawned on me when
- 30:00Speaker 1: I saw Victor swing that elbow that there's another player
- 30:04Speaker 1: that he kind of reminds me of. And maybe if
- 30:07Speaker 1: he puts some of this guy's work into his game,
- 30:09Speaker 1: it would make him even better and even more fearsome.
- 30:13Speaker 1: That's right. I'm talking about Bill Cartwright. Now, look, don't
- 30:19Speaker 1: be trying to shoot like him. Like, don't ever shoot.
- 30:22Speaker 1: But let Cartwright teach you about how to use those
- 30:25Speaker 1: elbows to establish your presence in the NBA, right? Y'all
- 30:30Speaker 1: cats think y'all got something now? Wait till you got
- 30:32Speaker 1: to worry about Bill Cartwright once broke Hakeem Olajuwon's face
- 30:35Speaker 1: going for a rebound. Have you ever seen the clips
- 30:37Speaker 1: of Goggle Olajuwon? That was because Bill Cartwright went up
- 30:41Speaker 1: for a rebound and came down and bowled him in
- 30:43Speaker 1: the face. That's who... Imagine, if Victor go work out
- 30:46Speaker 1: with Bill Cartwright during the summer, whole league going to
- 30:49Speaker 1: be terrified. Terrified, I tell you. He's going to get
- 30:52Speaker 1: 25 rebounds a game. Ain't nobody going to want to
- 30:54Speaker 1: guard him. He ain't never going to have to shoot
- 30:55Speaker 1: another three-pointer again. He just stand in the lane. Everybody
- 30:58Speaker 1: be like, all right, Big Peppa, you got this, dog.
- 30:59Speaker 1: We're not even going to get in the way.
- 31:02Speaker 4: That.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Bill Cartwright, if he can't set up a camp, somebody
- 31:06Speaker 1: can write the sketch of just Bill Cartwright big man camp.
- 31:11Speaker 1: And it's just big men throwing a bunch of elbows.
- 31:14Speaker 1: That's all. I'm telling you, Victor put a little bit
- 31:18Speaker 1: of that in his game. Sky's the limit. I'll tell
- 31:21Speaker 1: you this, too. If Victor played for the Thunder, they
- 31:24Speaker 1: would have called Bill Cartwright in to teach the whole team. Shit,
- 31:26Speaker 1: I'm surprised they ain't done that already, the way they
- 31:28Speaker 1: be out there playing. You can predict the playoff action

- 32:44Speaker 1: Now, if you haven't heard.
- 32:46Speaker 2: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, the drama is
- 32:49Speaker 2: finally over in Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers has signed a one-year
- 32:53Speaker 2: deal with the Steelers worth up to $ 25 million. Reports
- 32:56Speaker 2: are he is at OTAs this morning. Bo, what was
- 33:01Speaker 2: your reaction to this news?
- 33:03Speaker 1: None of it has made sense. And I guess... I
- 33:10Speaker 1: guess their argument is that there's not a better quarterback
- 33:15Speaker 1: available than Aaron Rodgers. And it is possible that that
- 33:18Speaker 1: is true. But that is in a I would call
- 33:22Speaker 1: it risk minimization sort of approach. Like it was on
- 33:27Speaker 1: the board for the Steelers to do what Miami did.
- 33:31Speaker 1: And Miami is not making any sense of what they did.
- 33:32Speaker 1: But go get Malik Willis. Go get somebody that gives
- 33:36Speaker 1: you a chance at a higher ceiling, that there's a possibility.
- 33:40Speaker 1: The possibility that Aaron Rodgers is better than he was
- 33:43Speaker 1: last year is low. That's just not how getting old works.
- 33:45Speaker 1: It's highly unlikely.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And he was bad last year.
- 33:48Speaker 1: And he was bad last year. He is a 20
- 33:52Speaker 1: to 25 range quarterback. Because he just tore his Achilles
- 33:56Speaker 1: a couple years ago. He's not mobile like that. He
- 33:58Speaker 1: can't move like that. He's actually pretty good considering. But
- 34:03Speaker 1: he's not.
- 34:05Speaker 1: He's not like LeBron James at 41. Even though Aaron
- 34:08Speaker 1: Rodgers is really good to be 43. But he's not
- 34:11Speaker 1: the equivalent of what LeBron James is at his age. Right?
- 34:14Speaker 1: He should not still be out there. And they should
- 34:17Speaker 1: not have still been wanting to do this. Now that
- 34:20Speaker 1: he out there with his ex-coach.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Right?
- 34:23Speaker 1: And they got sick of each other after a point.
- 34:27Speaker 2: That's the thing that's crazy about this. He's doing this.
- 34:31Speaker 2: He's dragging us out to do this again with Mike McCarthy,
- 34:34Speaker 2: who he dragged the whole time he was in Green Bay.
- 34:38Speaker 1: So something I do seem to appreciate about Aaron Rodgers
- 34:40Speaker 1: is that he does seem to be a guy that's
- 34:42Speaker 1: willing to look back and be like, hey man, maybe
- 34:44Speaker 1: we should just let this go, right? Like a guy
- 34:46Speaker 1: that deals with stuff. And so I think there may
- 34:49Speaker 1: be something admirable about the fact that he's willing to
- 34:53Speaker 1: play for McCarthy again. My thing about that is, as
- 34:56Speaker 1: wild as it is and seemed to be a risk
- 34:58Speaker 1: minimization play to go with Aaron Rodgers, you know what
- 35:01Speaker 1: else applies to that?
- 35:03Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy. Like, it was a reminder of, wait, hey,
- 35:07Speaker 1: that shit didn't make any sense either. Hey, guys, what
- 35:09Speaker 1: are we doing here? And their thing is, you know,
- 35:12Speaker 1: the Steelers, they don't want to rebuild or they don't rebuild.
- 35:17Speaker 1: At some point, you're going to have to. And it
- 35:20Speaker 1: looks like that point is going to be next year
- 35:22Speaker 1: because it's on the board that they could stink this year.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I mean, yes, it is. It has to be like
- 35:30Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers has not been good in five years.
- 35:34Speaker 1: That's fair. That's it. And and he's and he's still
- 35:38Speaker 1: going to have moments where you can dial it up.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Of course.
- 35:40Speaker 4: Right.
- 35:41Speaker 1: You're going to be able to put together like a
- 35:42Speaker 1: snippet of great. I mean, a cut of great plays
- 35:46Speaker 1: that's going to remind you that he's Aaron Rodgers. But
- 35:49Speaker 1: he's not like it's it's it's it's abundantly clear that.
- 35:53Speaker 1: That he's not. And they've decided that they're going to
- 35:56Speaker 1: go ahead and do this again. Something I didn't realize either.
- 35:57Speaker 1: They got the oldest defense in the NFL.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Yeesh.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah. That's going to be interesting to see how that goes.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Moving on to Atlanta. Big news in Waffle House. Some
- 36:09Speaker 2: workers staged a rally demanding $ 25 an hour and safer
- 36:16Speaker 2: working conditions. Representative from Clark Atlanta University said, You have
- 36:21Speaker 2: people coming in, inebriated, harassing employees, particularly women who feel unsafe.
- 36:27Speaker 2: People don't always tip even when they do. We don't
- 36:30Speaker 2: get all our tips. They go to our paychecks. They're taxed.
- 36:32Speaker 2: So Waffle House workers trying to change their situation in Atlanta. Beau,
- 36:37Speaker 2: what was your reaction to this?
- 36:38Speaker 1: So Waffle House is a very interesting place. fixture in
- 36:43Speaker 1: commerce and culture to me.
- 36:45Speaker 2: In America.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Yeah. As a full-on notion, everybody's got a Waffle House story,
- 36:53Speaker 1: and all of them imply that the worker should make
- 36:56Speaker 1: more than $ 25 an hour. Every single story. I think
- 36:59Speaker 1: the best one, my partner's head, they were in the
- 37:02Speaker 1: Waffle House one day, and some dude got into it
- 37:05Speaker 1: with a woman in there. I don't want to say
- 37:06Speaker 1: he called her a bitch or something like that. She
- 37:08Speaker 1: got on the phone and was like, uh-huh. Okay.
- 37:12Speaker 2: All right.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Okay, cool. And she's like, hey, that's my husband.
- 37:17Speaker 1: He weighs 300 pounds. He's on the way here. So
- 37:19Speaker 1: do you want me to call the ambulance now or
- 37:20Speaker 1: you want to wait? The guy's left. This is what
- 37:28Speaker 1: goes down at the Waffle House.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Waffle House workers should make $ 25 an hour everywhere in America,
- 37:34Speaker 2: including if you went back in time 20 years.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yes. Here's the only problem with what's going to happen
- 37:41Speaker 1: if this happens. OK, and I would love to see
- 37:44Speaker 1: the profit margins at Waffle House.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Yes.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I'm very, very curious, like what the books look like.
- 37:49Speaker 1: But I just know there are two things that are
- 37:52Speaker 1: going to happen. And this doesn't mean that people shouldn't
- 37:54Speaker 1: get paid $ 25 an hour. Just throwing it out here. Right.
- 37:58Speaker 1: If the food at the Waffle House is as it
- 38:01Speaker 1: currently stands at current wages, how much worse is that
- 38:05Speaker 1: food going to get if they start paying the workers
- 38:08Speaker 1: $ 25 an hour?
- 38:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Just asking that question. And number two, and this is
- 38:16Speaker 1: a big one, what is going to happen to the
- 38:19Speaker 1: prices at Waffle House if they start paying these people
- 38:22Speaker 1: $ 25 an hour? Because let me tell you what is
- 38:25Speaker 1: going to happen to those prices. They are going to
- 38:27Speaker 1: be offensive for the idea of eating at Waffle House.
- 38:33Speaker 2: And then more people might want to fight.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I don't even know what stuff costs at
- 38:38Speaker 1: Waffle House anymore because going to Waffle House at actual
- 38:42Speaker 1: breakfast hours doesn't make any sense. So it's been a
- 38:44Speaker 1: long time since I've been awake at Waffle House hours.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I don't know what anything costs right now. But there's
- 38:52Speaker 1: only so much I'm paying for cold scrambled eggs because
- 38:55Speaker 1: they always put the eggs on the grill first. And
- 38:57Speaker 1: I just don't know how they don't have a best
- 38:59Speaker 1: practices binder that tells you not to do that. Everybody
- 39:03Speaker 1: else knows better at their own fucking house. How do
- 39:05Speaker 1: you know that you're not supposed to do that? So
- 39:08Speaker 1: I'm hoping they win. I really, really am. This to
- 39:12Speaker 1: me is the wildest thing about Waffle House. Waffle House
- 39:15Speaker 1: is the only place that I can think of where
- 39:18Speaker 1: if you decide to rob the Waffle House... there is
- 39:21Speaker 1: just a good a chance that the Waffle House is
- 39:23Speaker 1: going to rob you. Like the fear that you have
- 39:28Speaker 1: to have of robbing the Waffle House is that you're
- 39:31Speaker 1: going to get robbed. Like, I just can't imagine, like,
- 39:35Speaker 1: we're going to come set it off and the ruckus
- 39:37Speaker 1: is going to start here at the Waffle House. I
- 39:41Speaker 1: don't think you should, I got to tell you something too, man.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I got to pot in there. He was a manager
- 39:46Speaker 1: at the Waffle House. His stories. But the staff are amazing.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
- 39:53Speaker 1: And I think a big part of why Waffle House
- 39:55Speaker 1: should consider paying $ 25 an hour is then when my
- 40:00Speaker 1: man was working at Waffle House, if they were paying
- 40:02Speaker 1: $ 25 an hour, he might not have had to be
- 40:04Speaker 1: so tolerant of the employees smoking crack on their brakes.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Because that's who he was getting to work at Waffle
- 40:10Speaker 1: House for the prices that Waffle House was paying. You
- 40:13Speaker 1: could get a different caliber of employee if you take
- 40:15Speaker 1: it up. Problem also, though, maybe if you take it
- 40:18Speaker 1: up to $ 25 an hour, now you won't have employees
- 40:21Speaker 1: capable of robbing robbers. They may be a little bit
- 40:24Speaker 1: too bougie. They may be a little, you know, $ 25
- 40:26Speaker 1: an hour this day and age. Shit, you could have
- 40:28Speaker 1: somebody on the grill with a degree.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Right?
- 40:30Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Might be a master's degree the way the economy is.
- 40:33Speaker 1: A lot of ways this could go. But I root
- 40:36Speaker 1: for always team labor over here.
- 40:38Speaker 2: All right, and finally, this one piece made the rounds
- 40:42Speaker 2: on the Internet in sort of an ironic way, a
- 40:45Speaker 2: piece in Vulture. The feed is fake. That viral song, movie, meme, influencer,
- 40:52Speaker 2: and celebrity drama was probably the product of a stealth
- 40:55Speaker 2: marketing campaign. Bo, you've been talking to us for a while,
- 40:58Speaker 2: and this piece caught your eye. What was your thoughts?
- 41:00Speaker 1: Well, you know, there's something to the idea of the
- 41:02Speaker 1: zombie Internet, right? Like, for example, Twitter at this point
- 41:05Speaker 1: is largely a zombie app. It is bots by and
- 41:10Speaker 1: large sending out content that just keep people engaged, who
- 41:14Speaker 1: are addicted to scrolling and addicted to responding. And I'm
- 41:17Speaker 1: saying that more in the first person than I am
- 41:19Speaker 1: in the third, just to be clear. That's where, I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 1: that's what the stuff is. But it does always seem right,
- 41:27Speaker 1: right around the time somebody's got something coming out, some album, whatever,
- 41:31Speaker 1: all this stuff just floods the zone, like all this
- 41:33Speaker 1: Michael Jackson content that, you know, because this is the
- 41:36Speaker 1: part I think that happened that nobody really talks about,
- 41:38Speaker 1: which is people complain about the For You tab. I
- 41:43Speaker 1: use the For You tab on those apps. And you
- 41:46Speaker 1: know why? Because people are like, I just want to
- 41:48Speaker 1: get something from the people I follow. I've been listening
- 41:50Speaker 1: to those people for 15 years. Kind of tired of
- 41:54Speaker 1: their shit, right? Like you need, you want to sprinkle.
- 41:57Speaker 1: A little something else in there, right? That's what it
- 41:59Speaker 1: turns into. And by the way, those people are on
- 42:02Speaker 1: the For You tab, so they're going to sprinkle in
- 42:04Speaker 1: that same stuff that's coming from the other place. It's
- 42:08Speaker 1: going to be there. But the change that's happened is
- 42:11Speaker 1: just in terms of how we consume, it's gone from
- 42:14Speaker 1: using those apps to keep up with your friends or
- 42:16Speaker 1: the friends that you've made to just responding to stuff, right?
- 42:21Speaker 1: It's like they stepped on that dope. You were getting
- 42:23Speaker 1: the pure dope that you wanted at first. And then
- 42:26Speaker 1: it just got stepped on, stepped on. And then they
- 42:28Speaker 1: started putting that fentanyl in and it's killing us.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Right.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And that's what my thought was when I read this
- 42:34Speaker 1: story about how like an album comes out or something
- 42:36Speaker 1: or some project and a company will put together 65,000
- 42:40Speaker 1: bots just to flood the zone with the content. And
- 42:44Speaker 1: what gets me for me about it is, is the
- 42:47Speaker 1: idea that nothing is organic at all. And there's always
- 42:51Speaker 1: been at every turn on every form of media or whatever,
- 42:53Speaker 1: an element that was not organic, like payola is to radio,
- 42:56Speaker 1: for example. But there's something about that feeling that something
- 43:00Speaker 1: is like really building. And there's something about feeling like
- 43:03Speaker 1: you caught up on something. And then, you know, there's
- 43:06Speaker 1: a movement that starts and then it goes from there.
- 43:08Speaker 1: That's really cool. My question, and it gets back to
- 43:11Speaker 1: what I talked about before, when people would hit me
- 43:13Speaker 1: up and talk about how do I get my career
- 43:15Speaker 1: going again? I don't know. Because if what you're up
- 43:19Speaker 1: against as a regular person is 65,000 bots, right? And
- 43:25Speaker 1: you'd be like, well, I mean, and it's not even
- 43:27Speaker 1: like if you're a rapper, for example, but you got
- 43:29Speaker 1: to go up against whatever the flood of Drake stuff
- 43:31Speaker 1: is that's coming out because people have been sitting up.
- 43:34Speaker 1: How do you get anybody to see your stuff when
- 43:36Speaker 1: everybody says it's all about social, it's all about your
- 43:39Speaker 1: follower count, right? How many people you get. Except it's
- 43:41Speaker 1: not about that. It's about your willingness to pay for
- 43:44Speaker 1: people that don't even have to follow you just to
- 43:45Speaker 1: flood the zone. So how is anybody supposed to make
- 43:49Speaker 1: anything happen? Like we're really at that point where you
- 43:51Speaker 1: start sounding like those people that used to sound crazy
- 43:53Speaker 1: about the fact that we live in a simulation, right?
- 43:56Speaker 1: If the attention is all bought and paid for, it
- 44:00Speaker 1: is truly a simulation of a zeitgeist rather than a
- 44:04Speaker 1: zeitgeist that truly gives you a reflection of where culture
- 44:07Speaker 1: is and stands. And that's after we moved everything into
- 44:10Speaker 1: these spaces, I find that incredibly worrisome.
- 44:19Speaker 2: All right, Bo, a lot of good voicemails. Here's our first.
- 44:23Speaker 6: Bo, what's happening? It's your boy, Ricky Cortez, for usual,
- 44:27Speaker 6: back at you. Just listening to you talking about why
- 44:30Speaker 6: the Spurs don't have a goon, man. I got a
- 44:32Speaker 6: question for you. Why haven't, to answer somebody, not even
- 44:36Speaker 6: just the Spurs, why hasn't somebody called Boogie, man? That
- 44:39Speaker 6: is the goon of all goons out there available right now,
- 44:42Speaker 6: ready to smack somebody's head off. Imagine him just sitting
- 44:47Speaker 6: at the end of the bench, whispering words like Draymond
- 44:52Speaker 6: did to KD back in Golden State, hyping him up
- 44:55Speaker 6: for the championship, bro. We need Boogie waiting for somebody
- 45:00Speaker 6: to mess, for somebody to look twice at Wimby so
- 45:04Speaker 6: he can get checked into the game and roll somebody over.
- 45:07Speaker 6: That's all I had to say. Let me know what
- 45:09Speaker 6: you think about that. But we need, yeah, the way
- 45:11Speaker 6: Beef Stew does it big in Detroit, we need Boogie
- 45:16Speaker 6: back in the league just to Just to reinforce. I'm
- 45:18Speaker 6: here in envy, man. Just like, you know, nobody wanted
- 45:21Speaker 6: to mess with Hallie once they brought in Big JJ.
- 45:26Speaker 6: Juwan Johnson. Juwan Johnson? Whatever his name is.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Him.
- 45:30Speaker 6: Yeah. Let me know what you think. I like you both.
- 45:34Speaker 1: All right. That is James Johnson.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I will just throw this out here, though, just to
- 45:39Speaker 1: make you feel old. Do you realize it has been
- 45:43Speaker 1: eight years since DeMarcus Cousins tore his Achilles tendon?
- 45:48Speaker 2: No, I did not.
- 45:49Speaker 1: It has been eight years. He was only 27, by
- 45:52Speaker 1: the way, when he tore his Achilles. And he is
- 45:55Speaker 1: now still only 35. He feels much older.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Right.
- 46:02Speaker 1: But the answer to your question is all in the old.
- 46:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 46:07Speaker 5: Right.
- 46:07Speaker 1: He's there. And also a little unwieldy.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Just a touch.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Just a touch. He is in the Rasheed Wallace category of, wow,
- 46:20Speaker 1: he became beloved. When did that happen?
- 46:23Speaker 2: For sure.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Guys I have no problem with, by the way. I
- 46:25Speaker 1: met DeMarcus in Vegas one time. He seemed real cool.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Rasheed seems really cool if you get along with him.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great way to put it.
- 46:34Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yo, what's up, Bo?
- 46:38Speaker 4: Courtney from Louisiana. I just wanted to give you a call,
- 46:42Speaker 4: a shout-out. Just watched the pod with you and Nick Wright,
- 46:46Speaker 4: and I just thought of an interesting question for you guys.
- 46:50Speaker 4: So we talked about LeBron going to a situation where
- 46:54Speaker 4: he wasn't liked, and y'all brought up the Jeannie Buss situation.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Knowing Jeannie Buss is a big Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant,
- 47:03Speaker 4: like a true Lakers person. And what type of tension or, like,
- 47:07Speaker 4: kin tension– do you think just got brought up during
- 47:12Speaker 4: this time? Nick always talks about them wanting him to
- 47:17Speaker 4: be washed a little bit sooner than what he is.
- 47:19Speaker 4: But actually, like, what if Jeannie Buss was just like
- 47:22Speaker 4: a diehard Kobe fan? Been watching you a long time.
- 47:26Speaker 4: Appreciate you. Love the pod.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Keep them coming.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Go Tigers.
- 47:30Speaker 3: All right.
- 47:32Speaker 1: So he said just what if Jeannie Buss was just
- 47:35Speaker 1: a Kobe fan?
- 47:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 1: No, I mean.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I think Nick is fair to say that the LeBron
- 47:42Speaker 1: era has been successful. It was certainly better than it
- 47:44Speaker 1: was before, but I think it's hard to argue it
- 47:47Speaker 1: also that it hasn't been a little disappointing. I thought
- 47:50Speaker 1: it would be more than this. And I think people
- 47:52Speaker 1: just thought that it would feel better than this. And
- 47:54Speaker 1: so I don't even, I mean, I think the, the
- 47:56Speaker 1: Kobe stand element of it always made it a little
- 47:59Speaker 1: tough with Lakers fans, you know, as it went, but
- 48:03Speaker 1: I just really think it just hadn't been what they
- 48:04Speaker 1: thought it was going to be.
- 48:05Speaker 2: I think it's very clear. that the longer you've been somewhere,
- 48:11Speaker 2: the more you believe in your own mythos.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Yes.
- 48:15Speaker 2: And I think the Lakers wanted LeBron things to do
- 48:18Speaker 2: things the Laker way, and LeBron wanted the Lakers to
- 48:21Speaker 2: do things the LeBron way.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 48:23Speaker 2: And that is where the tension has been at all times.
- 48:25Speaker 1: I think that's fair, because there was that run where
- 48:27Speaker 1: they were letting Clutch have the run of the place, right? Right.
- 48:30Speaker 1: And get all their guys. That was not the Magic
- 48:32Speaker 1: Johnson era, but it was the one that came after it.
- 48:35Speaker 4: But.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I would understand why LeBron thought he knew more about
- 48:43Speaker 1: running a franchise than the current Lakers regime. Jerry Buss
- 48:48Speaker 1: seemed to be good at it. Second generation Busses? Not
- 48:54Speaker 1: so much, right? And LeBron is not... LeBron, you gotta
- 48:57Speaker 1: prove it to. You gotta show him. Like, Steph Curry
- 49:00Speaker 1: seems content to let the Warriors run that. LeBron is like,
- 49:03Speaker 1: I have to answer for everything that goes wrong all
- 49:06Speaker 1: the time. And He probably knew better than they did.
- 49:09Speaker 1: That's the truth.
- 49:10Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Hey, Bomani.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Hey, Ryan.
- 49:14Speaker 5: This is Jasper from D.C. I'm watching. a clip right
- 49:21Speaker 5: now on social media of Joel lining up against somebody
- 49:27Speaker 5: when they were on the ringer tailgate stuff at UCLA.
- 49:33Speaker 5: And Joel gets burnt pretty bad. And I was curious
- 49:38Speaker 5: if you guys had seen the clip. and what your
- 49:42Speaker 5: analysis of the film is. Have a good one.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 49:49Speaker 1: First of all, yes, I saw the clip, and I
- 49:52Speaker 1: saw the clip because Van couldn't wait to send it
- 49:54Speaker 1: to me. I saw the clip well before any of
- 49:56Speaker 1: you did.
- 49:57Speaker 2: You might have been the first person to see that
- 49:58Speaker 2: clip who wasn't there.
- 49:59Speaker 1: It is totally possible I received that clip, and I
- 50:04Speaker 1: am Team Joel on this one. Joel was out there
- 50:08Speaker 1: in sneakers. and jeans try to backpedal, that's not easy
- 50:15Speaker 1: to do. And as Joel has pointed out, go look
- 50:18Speaker 1: at that clip of him running the nine route on
- 50:20Speaker 1: Billy and making the catch. Joel also has some criticisms
- 50:23Speaker 1: of Van as all-time quarterback that I wasn't in a
- 50:27Speaker 1: position to evaluate, but I did not bully Joel like
- 50:31Speaker 1: the rest of y'all have because I am a friend
- 50:35Speaker 1: to Joel Anderson. You understand what I'm saying? Now, would
- 50:38Speaker 1: Joel take this same approach for me? Hell no. No
- 50:43Speaker 1: chance in the world. But me?
- 50:45Speaker 3: Nope.
- 50:46Speaker 1: I'm here riding for Joel on this one, and I
- 50:48Speaker 1: look forward to him getting in shape and getting ready
- 50:51Speaker 1: for his race against Billy. And Ryan, I feel like
- 50:53Speaker 1: we got to find a way to get ourselves to.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we got to go.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I know you might be a little busy around that time,
- 50:59Speaker 1: but I want to find a way to get there
- 51:02Speaker 1: and be there. But nah, y'all ain't going to get
- 51:04Speaker 1: me to pile on my buddy Joel in that moment.
- 51:07Speaker 1: No sirree Bob. In fact, I don't know if any
- 51:09Speaker 1: of y'all got the right to do that. Y'all getting
- 51:11Speaker 1: a little familiar with Joel. And, you know, that's why
- 51:14Speaker 1: he be on the internet cussing y'all out. My God, boy.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I got to say, you know what the real lesson
- 51:20Speaker 2: for me here is? Unless you're a pro athlete, don't
- 51:24Speaker 2: let anyone film you.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Doing anything athletic. No, I refuse.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Not in a million years.
- 51:29Speaker 1: I refuse. Not a way in the world. Not a
- 51:32Speaker 1: way in the world. By the way, speaking of cousin people,
- 51:34Speaker 1: I need to say something right fast, Ryan. So we
- 51:36Speaker 1: did an event in Atlanta, kind of Beaumont Jones live.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Shout out to my man, Rod. Shout out to Karen.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Shout out to my guy, Dimitri. It was a real
- 51:44Speaker 1: good time. And thanks to everybody who came out. I
- 51:47Speaker 1: don't think I've told you about this. We had a
- 51:50Speaker 1: meet and greet where people paid a little extra to
- 51:52Speaker 1: come do the meet and greet. People were afraid to
- 51:59Speaker 1: come speak to me because they had received the impression
- 52:03Speaker 1: from listening to me that I do not like it
- 52:06Speaker 1: when people come up and talk to me.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Well, maybe not in the street, but this is a
- 52:11Speaker 2: different situation.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I started with that point. I understood that you paid, right?
- 52:17Speaker 1: I actually noticed it. And I told Dimitri, I was like, dude,
- 52:20Speaker 1: you got to get on the microphone and tell people
- 52:22Speaker 1: it's okay to come talk to me, right? And people
- 52:26Speaker 1: who did, they're like, well, we know you don't. I'm like, no,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I just like people to read the room a little bit, right?
- 52:30Speaker 1: Don't feel as though you're entitled to me. I will listen.
- 52:33Speaker 1: I will speak to you. I will be very nice.
- 52:36Speaker 1: I'll take a picture, whatever it is. But not if
- 52:38Speaker 1: I got a plate of food in front of me,
- 52:40Speaker 1: you know, where I'm out with somebody or whatever it is.
- 52:42Speaker 1: But I'm like, oh, damn, I'm really doing something wrong here.
- 52:46Speaker 1: If I have given you guys the impression that I'm
- 52:49Speaker 1: mean like that.
- 52:51Speaker 4: Right.
- 52:51Speaker 1: You can vouch for this.
- 52:52Speaker 2: You're not mean.
- 52:54Speaker 3: At all. At all.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Not even slightly. You are not mean, but. You are
- 52:59Speaker 2: not mean.
- 53:00Speaker 1: That's not what I do. I don't do mean.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Quite nice, actually.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Yeah, so if you see me, right, I might just
- 53:05Speaker 1: keep it quick. I might not want it to go
- 53:07Speaker 1: on forever. We might not talk, you know, the whole
- 53:09Speaker 1: leeway or whatever, but I could not believe those people
- 53:11Speaker 1: paid money and then did what. I'm like, yo, in fact,
- 53:15Speaker 1: I could break down one of the walls of this show, right?
- 53:18Speaker 1: Ryan and I have a thing with certain guests where
- 53:21Speaker 1: we have a line on them. Too much respect. And
- 53:24Speaker 1: what we mean by too much respect is people who
- 53:27Speaker 1: get on and they want to make sure they sound
- 53:29Speaker 1: smart or look whatever it is. And where I'm like, no, man,
- 53:32Speaker 1: just come on here and kick it. It ain't that
- 53:34Speaker 1: big a deal, right?
- 53:35Speaker 2: Put your feet up. It's fun.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Some of the people on the too much
- 53:38Speaker 1: respect list might surprise you. They're good, but it's still like, hey,
- 53:40Speaker 1: a little too much respect. This is an example in
- 53:43Speaker 1: the wild of, hey, just a little too much respect.
- 53:45Speaker 1: So I don't need you running up on me everywhere, right? However,
- 53:50Speaker 1: if you paid money to talk to me, Come talk
- 53:55Speaker 1: to me. It's okay. I promise. It's cool. But no, seriously,
- 54:00Speaker 1: it was a great time. I really love the opportunity
- 54:03Speaker 1: for members of the audience to meet each other. I
- 54:05Speaker 1: love because the way Rod and I have worked together
- 54:07Speaker 1: in different ways for so long and where our audiences
- 54:10Speaker 1: kind of overlap. I love, like I had somebody there
- 54:12Speaker 1: tell me how they found out about me through Rod, right?
- 54:15Speaker 1: Like I love the idea that we had that exchange,
- 54:17Speaker 1: that interplay and to see people come together. And I
- 54:20Speaker 1: want to read something. right fast because it's in line
- 54:24Speaker 1: with this that I want you guys to hear. I
- 54:26Speaker 1: received a message on Instagram, and I'm glad in this
- 54:31Speaker 1: occasion that I read the stranger Instagram inbox, which I
- 54:37Speaker 1: rarely do. And this is what I received. It's from
- 54:45Speaker 1: a gentleman, I believe it's Rhea or Rhea. I'm not
- 54:47Speaker 1: sure how to pronounce it, but he said, hey, Bo,
- 54:49Speaker 1: I just graduated from college in the U.S. from South Africa.
- 54:52Speaker 1: I'm leaving the States tomorrow and just wanted to say
- 54:54Speaker 1: thank you. These past four years were really difficult and
- 54:57Speaker 1: the right time was my daily piece of joy. I
- 54:59Speaker 1: honestly just wanted to express my gratitude for you helping
- 55:02Speaker 1: me think critically and challenge my own values. As I
- 55:04Speaker 1: leave the country and look to do greater things, you
- 55:07Speaker 1: have impacted me significantly and I want to express my gratitude. Joel, Dominique, Van, Ryan, Nick, Steven, Roy, Howard,
- 55:14Speaker 1: and everyone on your platform genuinely motivate me to not
- 55:17Speaker 1: only learn, but give back and have the necessary discussions
- 55:20Speaker 1: that make sense but explore the journey of life. Thank you.
- 55:23Speaker 1: And that just made my day. Like I just thought
- 55:25Speaker 1: that was, that was very nice of him. And I'm
- 55:27Speaker 1: glad that we don't get that many at this point.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I don't get that many opportunities to hear from people
- 55:33Speaker 1: who actually like what we do.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Like I have to kind of just take for granted
- 55:36Speaker 1: that you guys are out there. So to be able
- 55:38Speaker 1: to meet people and to receive something like that, like
- 55:42Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I say thank you greatly. And yeah,
- 55:46Speaker 1: if you paid money to talk to me, don't worry.
- 55:50Speaker 1: I'll talk to you.
- 55:54Speaker 2: All right, let's run this last voicemail.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Hey, Bomani and Ryan. This is Jake from the Champaign-Urbana
- 56:00Speaker 3: area of Illinois. Just calling to give you guys a
- 56:03Speaker 3: little bit of an update. After bouncing back and forth
- 56:07Speaker 3: between the Puerto Rican barbershop and my regular barbershop, last
- 56:12Speaker 3: time I went into the Puerto Rican shop and just
- 56:15Speaker 3: asked them if it was cool that a white guy
- 56:17Speaker 3: like myself kept showing up to get his hair dyed.
- 56:21Speaker 3: the barber that I was talking to laughed, said something
- 56:25Speaker 3: in Spanish to the rest of the barbershop. They all laughed.
- 56:30Speaker 3: And then he looked at me and said that as
- 56:31Speaker 3: long as I keep bringing cash and a smile, I'm
- 56:35Speaker 3: always welcome to go there to get my haircut. So
- 56:40Speaker 3: shout out to Urban Chates in Urbana, Illinois, because they
- 56:47Speaker 3: let me keep showing up.
- 56:48Speaker 2: Hope you guys have a good one.
- 56:49Speaker 5: Bye-bye.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Efectivo y una sonrisa. I would love to know what
- 56:55Speaker 1: he told them, what they said. Of course, for me, unfortunately,
- 56:59Speaker 1: it's that Puerto Rican Spanish. I wouldn't have been able
- 57:00Speaker 1: to help you with nothing. Nothing at all. White guys misunderstand.
- 57:08Speaker 1: That's what y'all do. Y'all be churning away good-ass money. Jessica,
- 57:15Speaker 1: who is coming from?
- 57:16Speaker 2: Not us.
- 57:18Speaker 1: No, sirree, Bob. Come on in here, gringo. I don't
- 57:24Speaker 1: think that's applicable when you're in Champaign. By the way,
- 57:26Speaker 1: that's where my parents met, was in Champaign or about.
- 57:29Speaker 2: That's incredible.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Yes, it is. Hey, but ladies and gentlemen, thanks so
- 57:33Speaker 1: much for joining us here on The Right Time. We
