• 0:34
Speaker 4: begin on Let's Talk.
• 0:36
Speaker 5: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carlee with Let's Talk.
• 0:39
Speaker 2: And I have a crew that may not be back
• 0:44
  Speaker 2: next week.
• 0:45
Speaker 5: But Lisa Odie is in the building and Hollis Lewis

Speaker 5: is also here with us.
• 0:50
Speaker 2: Hello, do you do either one of you don't want
• 0:55
Speaker 2: to tell the story? I know, I know, I know
• 0:58
  Speaker 2: you help well.
• 1:00
Speaker 6: The reason why we all might be fired tonight is
• 1:03
Speaker 6: because Carl does not know how to operate the simplest
• 1:06
Speaker 6: of equipment needed to have a podcast on w c
• 1:11
Speaker 6: H S A Ka. Did not have his headphones plugged in.
• 1:15
Speaker 6: Had our producer mat an equipment check.
• 1:21
  Speaker 2: What I can't hear anything.
• 1:25
  Speaker 6: That's how we're starting tonight.
• 1:27
Speaker 2: See, I'm just gonna I'm just gonna coke. I'm ana
• 1:29
Speaker 2: call coop after the show is just fire the whole crew.
• 1:32
Speaker 6: Here, start fresh, all.
• 1:35
Speaker 5: Right, So, man, I want to I want to. I
• 1:42
Speaker 5: know we're going to talk about Lebron, but I want
• 1:46
Speaker 5: to open up just to just to say something that
• 1:49
Speaker 5: how I kind of feel about him.
• 1:53
Speaker 2: All right, all right?
• 1:54
Speaker 5: And then Lisa, you got some facts, I'm sure, and Hollins,
• 1:57
Speaker 5: I know you got an opinion. I think Lebron is
• 2:05
Speaker 5: a outstanding player and butk but being that, I think
• 2:18
Speaker 5: the problem that he has is that he wants to
• 2:23
Speaker 5: feel like he is like the greatest player ever. I think,
• 2:27
Speaker 5: for whatever reason that he's he's fighting with trying to
• 2:32
Speaker 5: be MJ. He's wanting to be these great players. I
• 2:37
Speaker 5: just don't see him being that. I haven't seen him
• 2:41
  Speaker 5: in my and again I can't be I can't say
• 2:44
Speaker 5: that I've watched every game that he's played. I just
• 2:48
Speaker 5: don't see him being any of those great players back
• 2:54
Speaker 5: in the day. From what perspective, I just from team
• 3:00
Speaker 5: from from a team focus. I think when you look
• 3:05
Speaker 5: at MJ and you can say that you know, he
• 3:07
Speaker 5: scored this many points, but it didn't it never really
• 3:10
Speaker 5: looked like he was shooting that much. I'll even go
• 3:13
Speaker 5: to lou Alexander, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and and say he
• 3:19
Speaker 5: was he was part of a team that was sus successful.
• 3:24
Speaker 5: And I think most of those players were team oriented,
• 3:29
Speaker 5: even inside of their greatness.
• 3:32
Speaker 2: And so you think Lebron's not team oreent. I do
• 3:34
Speaker 2: not think he's team ore in it.
• 3:36
  Speaker 6: I just don't.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: I just don't see it. I think he wants.
• 3:42
Speaker 5: To win, all right, and and and he'll go to
• 3:46
Speaker 5: a team that he thinks will win.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: But then once he gets there, he thinks.
• 3:52
Speaker 5: He's the guy who has to carry the whole load,
• 3:55
Speaker 5: and please give me the ball, and I'll promise you
• 3:58
Speaker 5: I can take you all there.
• 3:59
  Speaker 2: And that's that's not really how it's been. I don't know.
• 4:02
  Speaker 2: I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I think I think.
• 4:05
Speaker 5: Maybe what you're looking at, more than his capacity to
• 4:09
Speaker 5: be a good teammate, is probably just his mentality. I
• 4:14
Speaker 5: think that's where you're hung up at. I think that again,
• 4:17
Speaker 5: because if you look at team's success, I mean, he's
• 4:19
Speaker 5: definitely carried teams. That Cleveland team they won the championship
• 4:22
Speaker 5: was not a great roster at all. I'm not sure
• 4:24
Speaker 5: they would have even made the playoffs without Lebron.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: That's a younger guy, Yes, younger d Wade.
• 4:29
Speaker 5: Okay, I can see kind of ring chase him a
• 4:31
Speaker 5: little bit when you go to Miami Lakers.
• 4:33
  Speaker 2: He's not.
• 4:33
Speaker 5: He didn't excuse me, walking to like the greatest situations.
• 4:37
Speaker 5: Philly is definitely and we'll talk more about that. Philly
• 4:39
Speaker 5: is definitely a ring chase to me. That's that is
• 4:42
Speaker 5: what it is. But I think it's just like when
• 4:44
Speaker 5: you look at him, when you look at the superstar
• 4:47
Speaker 5: that is Lebron James, and you can compare him to
• 4:50
Speaker 5: his contemporaries, where you compare him to the Michael Jordan's,
• 4:54
Speaker 5: when you can compare him to the Kobe Bryant, when
• 4:56
Speaker 5: you compare him to the Kreem Abdul Jabbars and those
• 4:59
Speaker 5: great players who dominated their specific errors they were they
• 5:03
Speaker 5: they appeared to have more of that killer mentality, just
• 5:07
Speaker 5: that attitude that they would rather just be on a
• 5:11
Speaker 5: sinking ship than join their comrade. You know, there would
• 5:15
Speaker 5: never be a situation in which Michael Jordan is gonna
• 5:17
Speaker 5: like team up with Charles Barklay, never ever, right, you
• 5:21
Speaker 5: know what I mean? So I think maybe it's his
• 5:24
Speaker 5: mentality that kind of throws people off where he's more,
• 5:27
Speaker 5: he's more open to do things like he just did.
• 5:32
Speaker 2: Okay, at least I'm gonna I just.
• 5:36
Speaker 6: Ready, I see him.
• 5:39
  Speaker 2: I see him.
• 5:43
Speaker 5: When they made the herschel Walker trade in Minnesota, and
• 5:46
Speaker 5: when herschel Walker got there, already before he probably got there,
• 5:53
Speaker 5: there were people trying to figure out, like, you know, who,
• 5:55
Speaker 5: what kind of personalities is he going to have, Who's
• 5:57
Speaker 5: he going to hang out with?
• 5:59
Speaker 2: You know, is it going to be social?
• 6:00
Speaker 5: All those kind of things, And and to be honest,
• 6:05
  Speaker 5: I can't even tell you if I had a legitimate
• 6:07
Speaker 5: conversation with them the entire season. That could be just me,
• 6:11
Speaker 5: that could be other players. But because you lost those
• 6:14
Speaker 5: other players who you you did hang out with, there
• 6:18
Speaker 5: wasn't there wasn't a good feeling of having him. And
• 6:23
Speaker 5: then now you have an expectation for him that he
• 6:26
Speaker 5: has to do all the things that the guys that
• 6:30
Speaker 5: you let go had done. And no one ever saw
• 6:35
Speaker 5: that that was good, and no one ever thought that
• 6:37
Speaker 5: that the trade was You can't compare those two. Those
• 6:41
Speaker 5: are lebron wins championships. Wherever he goes, each team that
• 6:45
  Speaker 5: he's played for, he's won a championship and been a
• 6:48
Speaker 5: and been an outstanding player on the court at each stop.
• 6:53
  Speaker 2: So you can't you can't get that's a that's I'm
• 6:56
Speaker 2: not gonna. I'm not gonna.
• 6:58
Speaker 5: I'm just saying as a trade, as a trade and
• 7:01
Speaker 5: what it does internally to the team.
• 7:03
Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, Okay, Well, I'm going to agree with some
• 7:07
Speaker 6: of the points Holli's just made. The one about being
• 7:09
Speaker 6: a ring chaser. I don't think he was that at
• 7:12
Speaker 6: the beginning of his career when he was capable of
• 7:15
Speaker 6: carrying a team on his bike, so to speak, like
• 7:17
Speaker 6: the Cleveland Cavaliers. But now it seems like, you know,
• 7:20
Speaker 6: as a forty one year old veteran, he's kind of
• 7:23
Speaker 6: tarnishing his legacy in my opinion, by you know, being
• 7:28
Speaker 6: this and I had to look this up, but I
• 7:30
Speaker 6: love the term and you've probably heard it, guys as
• 7:32
  Speaker 6: super team merchant.
• 7:35
  Speaker 2: That's a new one.
• 7:37
Speaker 6: This is this is slang that athletes use, uh to
• 7:41
  Speaker 6: you know who. It's a it's a whatever sport, a
• 7:46
Speaker 6: player that chases a team and they only joined stocked
• 7:50
Speaker 6: rosters to win championships. So this is what people are
• 7:55
Speaker 6: kind of labeling him as. And you know, Chase, like
• 7:58
Speaker 6: you said earlier, chasing that ring, it's not going to
• 8:02
Speaker 6: help his legacy in the end. In my opinion, I
• 8:04
Speaker 6: don't remember Michael or Michael Jordan doing those things at
• 8:07
Speaker 6: the end of his career. You know, it kind of
• 8:09
Speaker 6: makes you question. He's forty one years old. Maybe this
• 8:12
Speaker 6: is the point where we say time to write off
• 8:15
Speaker 6: into the sunset, rather than leaving this bad taste in
• 8:18
Speaker 6: everyone's mouth as Lebron fans watching him do this.
• 8:22
Speaker 5: Well that and that, and trying to bring your son
• 8:26
Speaker 5: into the into the mix. Well, yeah, I don't think
• 8:29
Speaker 5: his son not going to Philly. I don't think his
• 8:31
  Speaker 5: son no.
• 8:32
Speaker 6: But I'm just saying in the past, like you can't.
• 8:38
Speaker 5: I mean, he really believed and I'm okay believing in
• 8:41
Speaker 5: your son, and but you can't just automatically bring him into.
• 8:49
  Speaker 2: The NBA.
• 8:52
Speaker 5: And and and put him in the game. You want
• 8:55
Speaker 5: to put him in the game like he's getting he's
• 8:57
Speaker 5: getting play time. Yeah, come on, I don't have a problem.
• 9:00
  Speaker 5: I mean, it's nepotism.
• 9:01
Speaker 2: It is what it is.
• 9:02
Speaker 5: It happens at every it happens in every industry, right,
• 9:06
Speaker 5: It's just strange that it's happening in sports.
• 9:09
  Speaker 2: I mean, that's weird.
• 9:10
Speaker 5: But I would say this, as far as the move
• 9:12
Speaker 5: is concerned, I would agree with you, Lisa.
• 9:14
  Speaker 6: That it's just.
• 9:17
Speaker 5: It's just kind of just like it's kind of yeah,
• 9:20
Speaker 5: it's kind of just like blaoh, like why are you
• 9:22
Speaker 5: doing again? I understand going from Cleveland. Obviously he grew
• 9:26
Speaker 5: up in northeast Ohio. So you get drafted by Cleveland,
• 9:29
Speaker 5: you probably want to get out of there.
• 9:31
Speaker 2: So you go to Miami. That's almost like a college stop.
• 9:34
Speaker 2: Do you come back?
• 9:34
Speaker 5: Do you win a championship there? That okay, you want
• 9:36
Speaker 5: to go back to Cleveland. You win a championship there,
• 9:38
Speaker 5: you did it for the hometown. And then you want
• 9:41
Speaker 5: to move to LA because you're trying to do other
• 9:43
Speaker 5: things as far as media and being a mogul and.
• 9:46
Speaker 2: Da da da da da.
• 9:47
Speaker 5: But this and again, so all those moves are kind
• 9:51
Speaker 5: of justified. We get it, right, we get it. We
• 9:53
Speaker 5: may not like it, but we get it.
• 9:55
Speaker 2: But this one is just like, man, I mean, why
• 9:58
Speaker 2: do not I just go back to Cleveland have your
• 10:00
  Speaker 2: son's secret and it's.
• 10:01
Speaker 6: Just so why do you think that? I mean, because
• 10:03
Speaker 6: you know, people were saying that the front runners to
• 10:07
Speaker 6: you know, acquire him. What were Cleveland and Miami.
• 10:10
Speaker 2: Correct Cleveland, Miami and Golden State, I think yeah, and and.
• 10:13
Speaker 6: Those would have been like that, that would have had
• 10:15
Speaker 6: an air of romance, you know, those teams where he
• 10:18
Speaker 6: won some championships with. But this this this doesn't have
• 10:22
Speaker 6: an air of romance at all. It just kind of
• 10:24
Speaker 6: smells to me what.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: I think he wanted to do.
• 10:30
Speaker 5: I think he wanted to go to New York because
• 10:33
Speaker 5: from again this is early reports, so this could be
• 10:36
Speaker 5: you know, a stretch right now, but from what they're saying,
• 10:39
Speaker 5: he's not going to live in Philadelphia. They're saying he's
• 10:43
Speaker 5: going to live in New York and then commute. So
• 10:46
Speaker 5: there's like it's like an hour ride and you can
• 10:48
Speaker 5: catch that, you can do a helicopter ride or whatever.
• 10:50
Speaker 5: So they're saying he's going to actually like his home
• 10:52
Speaker 5: base on the East Coast is going to be in
• 10:55
Speaker 5: New York. So I believe if New York did not
• 10:58
Speaker 5: win the championship, I believe he would have went to
• 11:00
Speaker 5: New York because he's trying to you know, he has
• 11:03
Speaker 5: the La New York thing where he's trying to do
• 11:04
Speaker 5: the media, the business guy stuff like that. So I
• 11:08
Speaker 5: believe that's probably probably why he went to Philly. In
• 11:11
Speaker 5: addition to I mean, Philly has a stack roster with
• 11:14
Speaker 5: Joe want to b Brown Cursey, with the young guns
• 11:17
Speaker 5: that have I mean, they have.
• 11:19
Speaker 2: To be one of the front runners to win the
• 11:21
Speaker 2: championship next year. Do you think that those young guys.
• 11:30
Speaker 5: Relatively speaking, young guys that are already on the team,
• 11:34
Speaker 5: and you throw Lebron in there, do you think that's
• 11:38
Speaker 5: a match like that?
• 11:40
Speaker 2: Is that a mindset? I don't mean the mindsets work together.
• 11:44
  Speaker 5: I don't know if it's a match on the court,
• 11:46
Speaker 5: But what we gotta understand is the same way we
• 11:50
Speaker 5: look at like Michael Jordan or Kareem Abdul Jabbar, that's
• 11:53
Speaker 5: how they look at Lebron. How you know, people maybe
• 11:56
Speaker 5: a little bit younger than us would look at Kobe.
• 11:58
Speaker 5: That is how they look at Lebron. So for them,
• 12:00
Speaker 5: it's no, no, no, it absolutely is. It absolutely is
• 12:04
Speaker 5: For you and I not necessarily, but for them, Lebron
• 12:07
  Speaker 5: is there.
• 12:08
  Speaker 2: Jordan.
• 12:08
Speaker 5: They didn't watch Jordan growing up. They watched Lebron and
• 12:11
Speaker 5: they got the tail end of Kobe. So for them,
• 12:13
Speaker 5: it's like this is playing with their hero. You got
• 12:15
Speaker 5: to understand, this guy's eighteen, nineteen, twenty twenty one years
• 12:18
Speaker 5: old on this roster. They grew up watching Lebron. Lebron
• 12:21
Speaker 5: is it for them because they'll tell you Lebron's the
• 12:24
Speaker 5: greatest player of all time?
• 12:25
Speaker 6: But aren't there? Okay, So let me throw this out
• 12:28
Speaker 6: here too. So I know this seems like a dream
• 12:30
Speaker 6: team roster, so to speak. But you know, there's some
• 12:32
Speaker 6: skepticism I think out there with especially Philly fans. You know,
• 12:36
Speaker 6: there's questions about, you know, whether a forty one year
• 12:38
Speaker 6: old James is going to be able to stay healthy
• 12:40
Speaker 6: for a full season, right, And then you've also got
• 12:43
Speaker 6: Embeid and I think he's been heard quite a bit.
• 12:46
Speaker 2: He's going to be hurt. Yeah, unfortunately.
• 12:47
Speaker 6: So you're looking at an NBA season that begins quite
• 12:51
Speaker 6: early and ends quite late in the next year. I mean,
• 12:54
Speaker 6: that's a grueling kind of schedule for them to be
• 12:56
Speaker 6: able to go deep in the playoffs. Everybody has to
• 12:58
Speaker 6: stay healthy, those two us especially correct.
• 13:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think you have a Jalen Brown, so
• 13:03
  Speaker 2: I think he's there.
• 13:04
  Speaker 6: That's true.
• 13:04
Speaker 5: He's going to to me be the focal of this,
• 13:07
Speaker 5: and I think they can, man they can win enough
• 13:10
Speaker 5: games with him sort of guide in the ship, and
• 13:13
Speaker 5: they can you know, manage do the low management thing
• 13:16
Speaker 5: around him being Lebron. So I think there's enough pieces
• 13:19
Speaker 5: there because really all they have to do is kind
• 13:22
Speaker 5: of get to the playoffs and get through the regular season.
• 13:24
Speaker 5: Just get in the playoffs and then want you in
• 13:25
Speaker 5: the playoffs if you're healthy to your point, if you're
• 13:28
Speaker 5: healthy healthy going to the playoffs, I mean, that's gonna
• 13:30
Speaker 5: be a tough roster and compete with.
• 13:33
Speaker 2: But can Lebron fit?
• 13:35
  Speaker 5: He's gonna Lebron's a chameleon. That's the thing with Lebron.
• 13:39
Speaker 5: He can play, he gotta he developed a post game,
• 13:42
Speaker 5: he can he can run the point. Lebron can play any.
• 13:46
Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not. I'm not questioning his ability to
• 13:50
Speaker 2: play any positions. But what will he do?
• 13:54
Speaker 5: What what does he create in the in the mindsets
• 13:57
Speaker 5: of the other teammates, Because I'm telling you, there is
• 14:03
  Speaker 5: a there is a I mean there's a feeling when
• 14:07
Speaker 5: you have somebody who is.
• 14:11
Speaker 2: You know that's come in.
• 14:15
Speaker 5: In this type of situation, like you feel a certain
• 14:18
Speaker 5: kind of way because you've lost you know this player,
• 14:21
  Speaker 5: that player.
• 14:22
Speaker 2: You had to get rid of him.
• 14:23
  Speaker 4: Bro.
• 14:24
Speaker 5: I'm just telling, I'm just but it's different in basketball.
• 14:27
Speaker 5: I would say football is a little different basketball. They're
• 14:30
Speaker 5: used to just it's constant moving. In basketball, teams are
• 14:35
Speaker 5: constantly changing. I mean, and we can say, well that's
• 14:37
  Speaker 5: from youth all.
• 14:38
Speaker 2: The way up. Okay, it's constant movement.
• 14:41
Speaker 5: Okay, But now all of a sudden, everybody's going to say, Okay,
• 14:44
Speaker 5: Lebron's gonna come in and.
• 14:46
Speaker 2: Make us a champion. It's going to be the safe,
• 14:48
Speaker 2: he's going to be the savior. And and and you
• 14:51
Speaker 2: and Lisa and me.
• 14:53
Speaker 5: We're three or three, we're three of the starters, and
• 14:56
Speaker 5: we're thinking like, well, wait a minute, it's just.
• 15:00
Speaker 2: Gonna be him. He's just gonna like, he's gonna be
• 15:03
  Speaker 2: the thing. I don't think.
• 15:05
Speaker 5: I don't think a professional athlete can handle that in
• 15:11
  Speaker 5: their mindset.
• 15:12
Speaker 2: It's Lebron, this is this.
• 15:14
Speaker 6: You don't even think Jayleen will have a problem with.
• 15:17
Speaker 2: I think he will.
• 15:18
Speaker 6: But that's an ego there.
• 15:20
Speaker 5: But but I think we all know if you're if
• 15:23
Speaker 5: you're a basketball fan, you know Jayleen, this is this
• 15:26
Speaker 5: is gonna be Jaylen Brown's team. This is his squad.
• 15:29
Speaker 5: He's going to be responsible for carrying this team. Again,
• 15:33
Speaker 5: you're forty one. I'm sure Lebron's probably in the superior shape,
• 15:36
Speaker 5: all the things. He does, take care of his body.
• 15:38
Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, long term, this
• 15:40
Speaker 5: is Jaylen Brown's team. So I don't think far as
• 15:42
Speaker 5: Ego and Lebron is is he. Lebron's not a Jordan,
• 15:46
Speaker 5: He's not a Kobe. He will defer, you know what
• 15:49
Speaker 5: I'm saying. That's a criticism of Lebron. Lebron will pass
• 15:51
Speaker 5: the ball. He doesn't always take the last shot. That
• 15:54
  Speaker 5: is a that is a That's been a criticism Lebron
• 15:57
  Speaker 5: his whole career.
• 15:58
Speaker 6: It has been and and.
• 16:01
Speaker 2: And I'll make the case, No, I don't want to
• 16:05
Speaker 2: take the last shot. I just soon you take it.
• 16:08
Speaker 5: I'm telling you miss it. I'm telling you miss it.
• 16:12
Speaker 5: Then you know I'm okay. And Lebron can fit in anywhere.
• 16:16
Speaker 5: Oh that he can't fit in anywhere again now again again,
• 16:22
  Speaker 5: he can.
• 16:22
Speaker 2: Fit in with any team.
• 16:24
Speaker 5: Lebron can literally play with anybody because he can play
• 16:26
Speaker 5: all five positions. And he he doesn't have a he
• 16:30
Speaker 5: I mean, obviously he has an ego. He's a professional athlete,
• 16:32
Speaker 5: but his ego's not bigger than He's not a Kobe.
• 16:35
  Speaker 5: He's not a Kobe. He's not a Kobe or Jordan.
• 16:38
  Speaker 2: He's not.
• 16:38
Speaker 6: So do you believe this is the missing piece that
• 16:41
Speaker 6: the seventy six ers need to get it to the
• 16:43
Speaker 6: to the next level, to put it to the finals?
• 16:45
  Speaker 2: That part I don't.
• 16:46
Speaker 6: Because I mean it seems like good. You know, those
• 16:48
Speaker 6: other players, if they were so so good. I mean,
• 16:53
Speaker 6: I know they're good. Don't get me wrong, All players
• 16:55
Speaker 6: in NBA are good. But you know, for for him
• 16:57
Speaker 6: to come in and everybody say they're the juggernaut, now
• 17:00
Speaker 6: there are going to be the team that everybody needs
• 17:01
Speaker 6: to be. Is he that big of a contributing factor
• 17:05
  Speaker 6: to a championship?
• 17:06
Speaker 5: Is I mean that that's the question? Yeah, And I
• 17:08
  Speaker 5: think that's I don't but no, no, But I say,
• 17:13
  Speaker 5: that's a good that's legitimate. That's that's legitimate. That's a legitimate.
• 17:16
  Speaker 2: So I don't. I can't answer that.
• 17:19
Speaker 6: And one more thing and then I'm gonna let Carl
• 17:21
Speaker 6: take over because Carl's dying over there. But you know,
• 17:24
Speaker 6: going to the Philly you know those fans are notoriously different.
• 17:29
Speaker 2: Those are different fans culture.
• 17:31
Speaker 6: You know, they'll turn on you quick. And I'm telling
• 17:35
Speaker 6: you if they don't, you know, look at the Eagles fans,
• 17:36
Speaker 6: and now look at this. You know, if you don't,
• 17:38
Speaker 6: if you don't produce a championship like within a year
• 17:40
Speaker 6: or two, you know, you're just cooked. Yeah, they're gonna
• 17:43
Speaker 6: they're gonna have an immediate, you know, reaction.
• 17:46
Speaker 5: And he signed a two year deal. Yeah, so he
• 17:48
Speaker 5: got the one year than the player option the second year.
• 17:50
Speaker 5: So I think and minimum is a minimum anyway, I think,
• 17:54
Speaker 5: I think what will happen if, by some chance, he doesn't,
• 17:59
Speaker 5: he doesn't show up the way that they expect him
• 18:01
Speaker 5: to show up early on in the season.
• 18:04
Speaker 2: I think they'll lose the fan base.
• 18:06
Speaker 5: Nah, well, let me, I would partly agree with that.
• 18:12
Speaker 5: Consider if they're if they're not, if by All Star break,
• 18:16
Speaker 5: if things ain't going right, and I can see that.
• 18:19
Speaker 5: But but but I legitimately think I think they're gonna
• 18:22
Speaker 5: be barn. Everybody stays healthy or healthy enough, I think
• 18:27
Speaker 5: you know, they'll be in the Eastern Finals, the Eastern
• 18:29
Speaker 5: Conference Championship at the least.
• 18:31
Speaker 2: Okay, my only my only.
• 18:33
Speaker 6: Write that down Matt Murphy, I'll.
• 18:34
Speaker 2: Tell you, I think they're gonna at least get that fall.
• 18:37
Speaker 5: I think the only way that that happens. I think
• 18:39
Speaker 5: the only way that that happens is if Lebron is
• 18:42
Speaker 5: able to step back.
• 18:45
Speaker 2: And not own the team.
• 18:50
Speaker 5: And allow everybody to play, because, like you said, there
• 18:53
Speaker 5: are some great players on that team, and they don't
• 18:57
Speaker 5: need a whole lot of help. They don't need a
• 19:00
Speaker 5: they don't need a play, they don't need a game winner,
• 19:05
Speaker 5: they don't need that guy. They just need another hand.
• 19:08
Speaker 5: That's a good hand. That's all they need.
• 19:11
  Speaker 2: I think Lebron can feel that. I mean, I don't
• 19:13
Speaker 2: know if that's him.
• 19:14
  Speaker 5: Possibly, I think he's always thinking he's the guy that's
• 19:16
Speaker 5: got to take us, He's the guy who has to
• 19:18
  Speaker 5: take us there.
• 19:19
Speaker 2: He's not gonna let you take him. I don't know.
• 19:22
Speaker 5: I think at this juncture in your career, I think
• 19:24
Speaker 5: you kind of want that ride, right. I think he
• 19:26
Speaker 5: wanted that from Luca. I don't know if he wanted
• 19:28
Speaker 5: to be like me, let me come in and this
• 19:31
  Speaker 5: field a gap.
• 19:31
Speaker 6: I think he wants to go out on winner. I
• 19:33
Speaker 6: think that that's the whole.
• 19:34
Speaker 2: Point of that. I think I think that too.
• 19:36
Speaker 6: I mean, otherwise, I think he would have gone back
• 19:38
Speaker 6: to Miami or Cleveland because those were good fits for him.
• 19:41
Speaker 6: He want you know, that's nostalgic. People would have wanted
• 19:43
Speaker 6: him there. The fans love him there. He's taking a
• 19:46
Speaker 6: chance going to Philly.
• 19:47
Speaker 7: Really yeah, I think you'll are missing one one thing
• 19:49
Speaker 7: there about NBA teams, The coaching aspect is a big but.
• 19:53
Speaker 2: A lot of this is going to depend by Nick Nurse.
• 19:57
Speaker 7: How well does he control this team by adding Lebron
• 20:00
Speaker 7: in there. I mean, when you think about the most
• 20:02
Speaker 7: successful coaches over the last thirty years, Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich,
• 20:08
Speaker 7: Steve Kerr, and then after those top three, I mean
• 20:12
Speaker 7: you could list anybody, but you know those those three
• 20:15
Speaker 7: coaches know how to control their players when they bring
• 20:18
Speaker 7: somebody in. You know, they don't rework the wheel or
• 20:21
  Speaker 7: anything like that.
• 20:22
Speaker 2: They do what they do and they make you fit in,
• 20:25
Speaker 2: and they make you fit in.
• 20:26
Speaker 6: Do you really think Lebron is going to I mean.
• 20:29
Speaker 7: That's my issue with these superstars late in their career
• 20:32
Speaker 7: is it's just like if the coach starts to defer
• 20:36
Speaker 7: and say, well, you know, you're the great Lebron, You're
• 20:38
Speaker 7: the great whoever, that's when you start having issues if
• 20:43
Speaker 7: the coach gives away some of their control.
• 20:46
Speaker 2: Good point. Good point. And I think you give up.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: You're going to have to give up a little bit
• 20:49
Speaker 2: if you get Lebron.
• 20:51
  Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, And I don't and I don't think they're
• 20:53
Speaker 5: in a position to want or even need to do
• 20:57
Speaker 5: that at this point.
• 21:00
Speaker 2: See, yeah, it's gonna be interesting.
• 21:02
  Speaker 5: It's it's it's really gonna be It's really gonna be
• 21:05
Speaker 5: interesting to see. But now we're gonna I want to
• 21:11
Speaker 5: switch here to probably I'm gonna I'm gonna kind of
• 21:16
Speaker 5: give a good introduction to him, probably one of the
• 21:21
Speaker 5: best sports television analyst or whatever you want to call him,
• 21:30
  Speaker 5: Steven Am.
• 21:31
Speaker 6: We have a clip. You want to play the clip
• 21:33
Speaker 6: to introduce it? Yes, yeah, Matt, if you could play it,
• 21:36
  Speaker 6: it'd be great.
• 21:39
Speaker 2: He's an addict. That's what this comes down to. And
• 21:42
Speaker 2: as far as I'm if I was in an NFL team,
• 21:44
  Speaker 2: I went touch.
• 21:45
Speaker 8: I just went to you, and I see this very differently, Stevens.
• 21:48
Speaker 7: I know we do.
• 21:49
Speaker 8: Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.
• 21:53
Speaker 8: Be kind always. This shame does nothing. It doesn't help
• 21:58
Speaker 8: being addicted. To drugs does not meet you a bad person.
• 22:01
Speaker 8: It's a weakness. It needs to be addressed. The struggle
• 22:04
Speaker 8: goes on. There's no end to the struggle. This is life.
• 22:07
Speaker 8: We struggle every day and we just try to struggle better.
• 22:10
Speaker 8: And he's trying to struggle better.
• 22:11
  Speaker 5: Now.
• 22:11
Speaker 8: If he committed a crime, if you hurt someone, why
• 22:15
Speaker 8: do you think he's been taking Xanex and weeds since
• 22:17
Speaker 8: he was a teenager, since he was a young kid.
• 22:20
Speaker 8: Guy has problems, like he is a super human athlete,
• 22:24
Speaker 8: but he is still a human being.
• 22:35
Speaker 6: So just wanted to preface that real quick for our audience, guys.
• 22:37
Speaker 6: But that that clip is actually from the ESPN archives
• 22:41
Speaker 6: of stephen A's first take and that actually was on
• 22:44
Speaker 6: twenty eighteen December twenty eighteen, and so stephen A gave
• 22:48
Speaker 6: his opinion and then the response was from Max Keller.
• 22:51
Speaker 6: So thoughts from you, guys.
• 22:54
  Speaker 2: I know had I had a guy, a buddy of
• 22:57
  Speaker 2: mine who.
• 23:01
Speaker 5: I would say comfortably was probably the best bump and
• 23:05
Speaker 5: run corner in the NFL, who nobody knows.
• 23:10
  Speaker 8: And he was.
• 23:13
Speaker 2: He was an alcoholic. That was his vice, I guess.
• 23:17
Speaker 5: And as my career grew, all I could think about
• 23:29
Speaker 5: was him because I knew how great he was. I mean,
• 23:33
Speaker 5: he was ten times better than me. But I knew
• 23:39
Speaker 5: his career was never gonna it was never going to
• 23:41
Speaker 5: get to a place to where he would be able
• 23:46
Speaker 5: to actually play week in and week out because he
• 23:49
Speaker 5: just he just drank too much.
• 23:51
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: You could, I mean you could smell it on him.
• 23:54
Speaker 5: You know, in the morning every day for practice, you know,
• 23:58
Speaker 5: and it's almost like he wouldn't wait to get away
• 24:01
Speaker 5: from practice to get there. And I think when you
• 24:05
Speaker 5: put yourself in that kind of situation, and when that's
• 24:08
Speaker 5: a situation that's causing you a problem to be great,
• 24:14
Speaker 5: it's not an easy one to break, you know. I
• 24:19
Speaker 5: went on it was you know, the day off on
• 24:22
Speaker 5: in the league is Tuesday. So I went over to
• 24:26
Speaker 5: his house because so he's playing on the other side
• 24:30
Speaker 5: of me, you know, and and and I know how
• 24:33
Speaker 5: good he is. He can when he came to the door,
• 24:38
Speaker 5: like I mean, I'm banging on the door because I
• 24:40
Speaker 5: know he's there, you know. And finally he opens the
• 24:44
Speaker 5: door and he turns around and walks back, like he
• 24:48
Speaker 5: doesn't say come in. He just walks away and goes back,
• 24:53
Speaker 5: lays down on the couch and I'm like, I try,
• 24:56
Speaker 5: I try to have a conversation with him, and I
• 24:59
Speaker 5: realized that it was was it was a it was
• 25:01
Speaker 5: a waste of time because he wasn't there, you know,
• 25:06
Speaker 5: it wasn't his he was too far gone, you know.
• 25:09
Speaker 5: And and I think, you know, when when players get
• 25:14
Speaker 5: into that kind of a situation, it really really damages
• 25:20
Speaker 5: their ability their thought process of how great they could be.
• 25:25
Speaker 6: That's just a you know, a story that you just
• 25:27
Speaker 6: told Carl that that you know, it's probably similar to
• 25:30
Speaker 6: to what happened to to Josh Gordon. I don't think
• 25:33
Speaker 6: he plays in the league anymore. And I think that, uh,
• 25:36
Speaker 6: you know, after this clip. He even had more issues
• 25:39
Speaker 6: of being suspended with drug problems. And you know from
• 25:41
Speaker 6: what I what I read, But you know, I think
• 25:44
Speaker 6: the thing that bothered me a little bit about the video.
• 25:46
Speaker 6: And don't get me wrong, I love Stephen A. Smith,
• 25:49
Speaker 6: love him most of the time. I'm with him and agree,
• 25:52
Speaker 6: but you know, for him, uh, you know, for this
• 25:55
Speaker 6: this little segment between he and Max. You know, at
• 25:59
Speaker 6: one point we didn't or all of the second the
• 26:01
Speaker 6: whole time, the whole interaction between the two men but
• 26:05
Speaker 6: you know, he said that it was self inflicted rather
• 26:08
Speaker 6: than a true disease, and he caught a lot of
• 26:11
Speaker 6: flock at that time for making that statement, and and
• 26:14
Speaker 6: to me rightly. So, you know, I don't think addiction
• 26:18
  Speaker 6: is a choice.
• 26:19
  Speaker 2: No, I don't. I don't think.
• 26:21
  Speaker 6: I don't think you know, I think that it's it's
• 26:23
  Speaker 6: a it's a it's an illness. And you know, most
• 26:27
Speaker 6: of the time people that have, you know, battled that addiction,
• 26:30
Speaker 6: they understand that complex reality of trying to get better.
• 26:33
Speaker 6: And I think kind of Stephen kind of disrespected that
• 26:37
Speaker 6: process in a way during that little little interaction. What
• 26:42
Speaker 6: do you what do you think, Collins?
• 26:43
Speaker 5: I mean, it was just it was a very ignorant comment.
• 26:46
Speaker 5: It was downright disgusting. And I had those same thoughts
• 26:50
Speaker 5: when I heard it back then as a person who
• 26:52
Speaker 5: like works in that community, at least in part, you
• 26:57
Speaker 5: have to understand that normally addiction is a symptom of
• 27:00
Speaker 5: a deeper issue. So whether that's a childhood trauma, whether
• 27:04
Speaker 5: that's even an adult trauma, whether that's you know, mental
• 27:08
Speaker 5: illness or what have you, or you know, here in
• 27:12
Speaker 5: the case of in West Virginia, a large segment of
• 27:16
Speaker 5: our population who is suffered from SUD substitute disorder went
• 27:21
Speaker 5: to the doctor because they were injured, and then they
• 27:23
Speaker 5: got over prescribed during the opoid crisis. So it could
• 27:27
Speaker 5: be a situation in which you don't have anything far
• 27:29
Speaker 5: as mental or some sort of emotional behavior health issue,
• 27:32
Speaker 5: you just went to the doctor, you got over prescribed,
• 27:34
Speaker 5: and now it led you to where you can't get
• 27:37
Speaker 5: that drug. Now you're you know, using street drugs in
• 27:39
Speaker 5: order to compensate for not being able to get it
• 27:42
Speaker 5: from a doctor anymore. And I think specifically when we're
• 27:45
Speaker 5: looking at sports and addiction, it's sports and addiction is
• 27:49
Speaker 5: like one of those things similar to like sports and
• 27:52
Speaker 5: behavioral health and mental health, which we're just starting to
• 27:56
Speaker 5: sort of recognize the problems with that. Particularly. You know,
• 28:00
Speaker 5: when we talk about athletes, I was looking at something
• 28:03
Speaker 5: the other day and then we're talking about what being
• 28:06
Speaker 5: a high level athlete like does to your nervous system. Right,
• 28:10
Speaker 5: So for example, like when we're two days we're practicing,
• 28:14
Speaker 5: and you and we're doing run tests and we're doing
• 28:17
Speaker 5: our sprints after practice, you know that sort of feeling
• 28:21
Speaker 5: in addition to the anticipation and the playing of games
• 28:25
Speaker 5: and practice and the camaraderie that exists within that team capacity.
• 28:30
Speaker 5: You don't get that anywhere else. So once you're done
• 28:33
Speaker 5: with it, your nervous system is used to reacting and
• 28:38
Speaker 5: being at a certain tilt, you know, and I'm sure
• 28:41
Speaker 5: coachly you could probably you know, relate. You know, every
• 28:45
Speaker 5: August it's almost like, dang, I ain't in shape yet.
• 28:48
Speaker 5: You might do that, like after you've done plan you
• 28:50
Speaker 5: think like, but hey, I'm done. You ain't played in
• 28:54
Speaker 5: two three years, But that August you start to get
• 28:56
Speaker 5: charged up because you're used to doing things in a
• 28:59
  Speaker 5: certain way.
• 29:01
Speaker 2: And I'm sure it's for the same for other sports.
• 29:03
Speaker 5: So athletes are prone to be to go that way
• 29:08
Speaker 5: because you're just not getting that that that adrenaline rush.
• 29:12
Speaker 5: You're not getting that excitement. You know, life becomes boring. Particularly,
• 29:15
Speaker 5: like I said, if I can you know, you played
• 29:17
Speaker 5: in the league or played high level collegiate natural it's
• 29:21
Speaker 5: a natural thing. And when you can't get that, it's
• 29:23
Speaker 5: almost similar to going to that doctrine being overprescribed. So
• 29:27
Speaker 5: I think it's one of those things where you know,
• 29:29
  Speaker 5: we we and I and I and I think it's
• 29:33
Speaker 5: mandated by the league now that every team has to
• 29:35
Speaker 5: have like a mental health professional, behavioral health professional, I think,
• 29:39
Speaker 5: I think now, and we got to do that. And
• 29:41
Speaker 5: the same thing goes for addiction, you know, So if
• 29:44
Speaker 5: you do have these athletes who we got to start
• 29:46
Speaker 5: to figure out how we can, you know, get to
• 29:48
Speaker 5: the root of the problem and not just look at
• 29:50
Speaker 5: this purely in a punitive manner, because it's much deeper
• 29:54
Speaker 5: than that. So and and you touched on a piece
• 29:58
Speaker 5: of it that I think that maybe the average person
• 30:03
Speaker 5: doesn't get. And I know that you understand it from
• 30:07
Speaker 5: just even playing at Western State. When you're when you
• 30:10
Speaker 5: are an athlete and when you are you know, in
• 30:15
Speaker 5: the game in a situation somewhere, there are players people
• 30:23
Speaker 5: who have to come find a way to get rid
• 30:27
Speaker 5: of all that anxiety that they have built up into
• 30:30
Speaker 5: the game. And unfortunately it's it's usually going out with
• 30:36
Speaker 5: your buddies and going out to the bar and having
• 30:40
Speaker 5: a drink, having a smoke, anything like that, and before
• 30:44
Speaker 5: you know it, it becomes your routine and before you
• 30:48
Speaker 5: know it, you are hooked on it. And it's not
• 30:53
Speaker 5: always something that somebody did for quote pleasure. It was
• 30:59
Speaker 5: a it was a way out. It was something to
• 31:01
Speaker 5: try to just get me over as an escape mechanism
• 31:04
Speaker 5: to help me get away from the anxiety of you know,
• 31:10
Speaker 5: what football is. I mean, if I mean, you can't
• 31:13
Speaker 5: imagine if you haven't done it, you can't imagine being
• 31:19
Speaker 5: in camp and hoping to make a team, you know,
• 31:23
Speaker 5: and and you've got a great quarterback that's in front
• 31:26
Speaker 5: of you, maybe two and some kind of way. You're
• 31:31
Speaker 5: trying to make this team, but you've got to beat
• 31:32
Speaker 5: one of those guys out and if not, you're going home.
• 31:37
Speaker 2: And when you go home, you don't know what you
• 31:41
Speaker 2: face what you're facing now.
• 31:43
Speaker 5: And that's in addition to so if you take that
• 31:45
Speaker 5: and in addition, like if you're a long term, you know,
• 31:47
Speaker 5: professional athlete, there's again I think it's changed now, but
• 31:52
Speaker 5: there's also where they're where they're getting the scripts to play,
• 31:55
Speaker 5: so they're getting the proccess and they were getting the
• 31:58
Speaker 5: you know, the pain pill to deal with management.
• 32:00
Speaker 2: So there's also that aspect.
• 32:02
Speaker 5: Anyway, So when I hear again, and I would pray
• 32:05
Speaker 5: that he would he would have an evolved opinion about
• 32:08
Speaker 5: that now. But when I heard that again even it
• 32:11
Speaker 5: was just like that's the dumbest thing.
• 32:13
Speaker 6: Well, he did come back, guys and have like a
• 32:16
Speaker 6: kind of a statement that he made that you know,
• 32:18
Speaker 6: he insisted his frustrations with the addiction issues comes from
• 32:22
Speaker 6: personal family experiences and the toll that he, you know,
• 32:27
Speaker 6: was on the individual. You know, relapses take on the
• 32:30
Speaker 6: surrounding support system of family when these you know, whether
• 32:34
Speaker 6: it's an athlete or not an athlete, when someone has
• 32:36
Speaker 6: an addiction issue, we know how they do relapses, and
• 32:39
Speaker 6: you know, the family goes into relapse with them. I
• 32:41
Speaker 6: mean they have to suffer through the same symptoms and
• 32:44
Speaker 6: trying to get help. So he said it was more
• 32:47
Speaker 6: of that than a lack of empathy. So he did
• 32:49
Speaker 6: kind of dig his way out of that hole that
• 32:51
Speaker 6: he dug when he did that interview. And plus this
• 32:53
Speaker 6: was in twenty eighteen, but it's still relevant to a
• 32:56
Speaker 6: degree today. I Mean, you know, like you just said,
• 32:58
Speaker 6: your friend drinking, you know, destroyed his career, and then
• 33:01
Speaker 6: the same thing it happened. You know, from what I'm
• 33:04
Speaker 6: reading about Josh Gordon, I mean, he was a very
• 33:06
Speaker 6: they caught him Flash I think was his nickname, right.
• 33:08
Speaker 5: He was an excellent, excellent he had like you know
• 33:11
Speaker 5: that Megatron, Random Mantario, all this type of ability for sure,
• 33:15
Speaker 5: but you know, unfortunately it happens. And like I said,
• 33:18
Speaker 5: I just hope that anybody out there dealing with, you know,
• 33:21
Speaker 5: any sort of addiction issues please call nine eight eight
• 33:24
Speaker 5: and you know, get help and just try to you know,
• 33:27
Speaker 5: and know this that relapses a part of the process.
• 33:31
Speaker 6: You know, they don't give up. Don't give up.
• 33:34
Speaker 5: And we as the outside of that, we're the first
• 33:39
Speaker 5: ones who want to say, oh, look at that, Hollis.
• 33:42
Speaker 2: I heard Hollis was back on it like he was before.
• 33:45
Speaker 2: You know, when you do that, when you.
• 33:49
Speaker 5: Do that, that doesn't really necessarily help the person in general.
• 33:54
Speaker 5: I think it because they know, you know, they know
• 33:57
Speaker 5: better than anybody where they are. And in order for
• 34:00
Speaker 5: them to think about, Okay, I'm gonna have to go
• 34:03
Speaker 5: through this whole thing, this whole process all over again
• 34:07
Speaker 5: because I got to get back. They understand how challenging
• 34:11
Speaker 5: that is, right, and and all we're doing is just judging.
• 34:15
Speaker 5: And I just think that that's you know, for them
• 34:18
Speaker 5: to recover. Yes, And I tell you, I promise you
• 34:21
Speaker 5: when you see it, when you know it, when you're
• 34:26
Speaker 5: on a team, and let's just say in the NFL,
• 34:29
Speaker 5: when you're on the team and you see it and
• 34:32
Speaker 5: you know that guy's he's in that situation, you know,
• 34:39
  Speaker 5: it's sad because there's there's there's there's nothing really that
• 34:44
Speaker 5: anybody's going to do. We know it, but we don't
• 34:47
Speaker 5: know we we because I can't go to Hollis and say, hey, man,
• 34:51
Speaker 5: come on, we need to do that.
• 34:52
Speaker 2: He don't want to hear that. He's a grown man too,
• 34:56
  Speaker 2: you know.
• 34:56
Speaker 6: And the addict has to decide for themselves help and and.
• 35:02
  Speaker 2: That's a that's a and that's a challenge for them,
• 35:05
  Speaker 2: you know.
• 35:05
Speaker 7: So I mean from a team management perspective too, there's
• 35:10
Speaker 7: there's one thing about making a business decision here, and
• 35:14
Speaker 7: that business decision maybe, look, you've got an addiction issue,
• 35:18
Speaker 7: we got to cut you your liability to the team.
• 35:20
Speaker 7: But that doesn't mean that you don't also still want
• 35:23
Speaker 7: to be compassionate. You don't want to try to get
• 35:25
Speaker 7: that person rehabilitation and whatever they need there. But you know,
• 35:29
Speaker 7: even if you do that for someone, I mean, the
• 35:31
Speaker 7: team may still have to say, look, you know it's
• 35:32
Speaker 7: still not working out.
• 35:33
Speaker 6: It's true. I didn't think that that one.
• 35:35
  Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's that that's that's a fact.
• 35:38
Speaker 6: So that one enough for that one?
• 35:43
  Speaker 4: Do we do?
• 35:43
Speaker 6: We want to move on to the next.
• 35:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, topic, let's go to the next.
• 35:47
Speaker 6: Okay, So this this topic. You know, I don't know
• 35:50
Speaker 6: why I didn't realize this was going on when it
• 35:52
Speaker 6: came out, but this is the uh Notre Dame CFP deal.
• 35:56
Speaker 6: Have you guys heard about it?
• 35:58
  Speaker 2: Jeez?
• 35:59
  Speaker 5: I had.
• 36:00
Speaker 2: I had not heard about it until you guys talked
• 36:02
  Speaker 2: about it.
• 36:03
Speaker 6: Well, this happened like in December, but they really didn't
• 36:07
Speaker 6: advertise it. And I guess now we're the college football season,
• 36:10
Speaker 6: you know, is upon us, and what a month out
• 36:13
Speaker 6: and now it's coming out what happened with Notre Dame?
• 36:15
Speaker 6: And I'll just really quick go over and then I
• 36:17
Speaker 6: want your opinions on it, guys, because and Hollis is
• 36:20
Speaker 6: going to have to explain a legal term here for us.
• 36:23
Speaker 6: But so basically we know what happened in twenty twenty five, right,
• 36:27
Speaker 6: Notre Dame got snubbed in the CFP College Football Playoff.
• 36:32
Speaker 6: They were ten and two and they ended up being
• 36:35
Speaker 6: left out of the twelve team field and replaced by Miami.
• 36:39
Speaker 6: So they were pretty upset about it. That the CFP committee.
• 36:43
Speaker 6: You know, they justified their decision by saying, you know, look, guys,
• 36:46
Speaker 6: you had a zero to two start to your season,
• 36:49
Speaker 6: your late season schedule, you know there it was weak
• 36:53
Speaker 6: and so it hurt their resume. So in the end
• 36:55
Speaker 6: they didn't make the playoff. Well then Notre Dame declined
• 36:57
Speaker 6: Bowl invitations, so it was just just turned into a
• 37:00
Speaker 6: big drama that you know, typical fighting Irish. I didn't
• 37:04
Speaker 6: say that out loud, so anyway, so then we get
• 37:06
Speaker 6: to this year and I guess what happened was there's
• 37:10
  Speaker 6: a it's called a top twelve clause and under a
• 37:15
  Speaker 6: and it's called an m o U. Do you know
• 37:18
Speaker 6: what that is, Hollis and MoU.
• 37:20
  Speaker 2: It's a random of understanding.
• 37:21
Speaker 6: Yes, explain that to everybody, because that was.
• 37:23
Speaker 5: Basically, when you have two parties, they don't necessarily have
• 37:27
Speaker 5: a quote unquote normal like everyday working relationship, but they
• 37:32
Speaker 5: you know, agree upon a set of policies, procedures or
• 37:35
  Speaker 5: to do.
• 37:36
  Speaker 1: This or that.
• 37:37
Speaker 6: So legally it wouldn't hold up in court. It's more
• 37:39
  Speaker 6: of like a gentleman's agreement.
• 37:42
Speaker 2: It's a little bit more more than a document.
• 37:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, there could be some legal ramplifications, but I don't
• 37:48
Speaker 5: think it rises to the level of like a contract.
• 37:50
Speaker 6: Okay, okay, well that's what they have. So that's that's
• 37:52
Speaker 6: between Notre Dame and the CFP. And so now uh,
• 37:57
Speaker 6: any top twelve final ranking in twenty twenty six locks
• 38:02
Speaker 6: Notre Dame into the playoff field? Is no Matt, no
• 38:07
Speaker 6: other team just because you know, here's here's my question
• 38:10
Speaker 6: for you guys, special treatment for an independent I mean,
• 38:13
Speaker 6: I know Notre Dame's always been given gifts, but is
• 38:17
Speaker 6: this over the top?
• 38:18
Speaker 5: Well top, well, this is this is this is reason
• 38:22
Speaker 5: nine hundred thousand fifty five that I hate the NUBLE
• 38:26
  Speaker 5: then c double a. I just it's just such a
• 38:31
Speaker 5: terrible organization. And like, look, I don't know why we
• 38:37
Speaker 5: need a playoff committee. I don't know why that was
• 38:40
Speaker 5: your favorite part. I don't know why we need these MOUs.
• 38:44
Speaker 5: I don't know why we need any of this crap.
• 38:47
Speaker 5: If you just take what the BCS had far as
• 38:50
Speaker 5: the point system, take Cuman out of it. You just
• 38:53
Speaker 5: got a point system and you say, hey, man, you
• 38:56
Speaker 5: you get points for playing it. Make sure the point
• 38:58
Speaker 5: system is correct. We can program it to make sure
• 39:00
Speaker 5: that hey, if you're getting points for playing good teams.
• 39:04
Speaker 5: You're getting points for making early season schedules, even if
• 39:07
Speaker 5: that team turns out to not be so good, but
• 39:09
Speaker 5: they were good last year. Whatever the points, and you
• 39:13
Speaker 5: just take the top twelve teams and run the playoff.
• 39:16
Speaker 5: Really take the top twenty five teams, top team, get
• 39:19
Speaker 5: it by twenty four play just like every other sports
• 39:22
Speaker 5: organization from the NFL to a youth league, just take
• 39:26
Speaker 5: You can literally just take what the BCS did far
• 39:29
Speaker 5: as the points, getting the top twenty five and.
• 39:31
Speaker 2: Just run a playoff.
• 39:32
Speaker 5: You don't need all these humans, you don't need MOUs
• 39:35
Speaker 5: you don't need any of this. And it's just like
• 39:37
Speaker 5: I just I'm so frustrated and I end up personally
• 39:43
Speaker 5: again I'll shut up after this, but I I personally,
• 39:48
Speaker 5: I personally think that college particularly college football, is going
• 39:54
Speaker 5: to succeed from this and they're going to run their
• 39:57
Speaker 5: own thing. I think we're gonna have the SEC that
• 39:59
Speaker 5: does it first say we're not following any of your
• 40:01
Speaker 5: rules anymore. You're a defunct, just useless organization that just
• 40:06
Speaker 5: does dumb stuff like this. Because I mean, again, if
• 40:10
Speaker 5: they're in the top twelve, then they're in the top twelve.
• 40:12
Speaker 5: But what is going to end up doing is making
• 40:14
Speaker 5: sure that they're in.
• 40:14
Speaker 6: The top exactly. If they're a top twelve time.
• 40:17
Speaker 2: Then we don't have to do this. You don't need
• 40:19
  Speaker 2: a m o U the top twelve. They're good enough
• 40:21
Speaker 2: to make it. But now you're going to look for
• 40:23
Speaker 2: every justifiable reason to pit them at them there. You know,
• 40:26
  Speaker 2: It's just I don't know.
• 40:28
Speaker 7: You know, all these times that we've been talking bad
• 40:30
Speaker 7: about the WVS, S A C and all this transfer
• 40:33
Speaker 7: stuff and whatever, and here we actually have a point
• 40:36
Speaker 7: system in this state for the playoffs.
• 40:38
Speaker 2: And it would work pretty and it's pretty simple.
• 40:41
Speaker 7: We had it right here in West Virginia all along.
• 40:43
Speaker 2: Look at that, and it's not that hard. I think
• 40:46
Speaker 2: they want it. I want it. I think they want
• 40:48
  Speaker 2: it complex so.
• 40:49
Speaker 5: That they can so we were doing this, yeah, so
• 40:53
Speaker 5: that something like this they can have some kind of
• 40:57
Speaker 5: handle on how to fix it.
• 40:59
  Speaker 2: It's it's just I.
• 41:00
Speaker 6: Don't know, man, What about these other conference commissioners. Do
• 41:03
Speaker 6: they not stand up and say, hey, why can't we
• 41:05
Speaker 6: get that kind of an agreement? Why do they get it?
• 41:07
Speaker 6: Just because they choose to be independent. They could join
• 41:10
Speaker 6: any conference in America and they choose not to because
• 41:13
Speaker 6: of stuff like this. They have their own network, they
• 41:15
Speaker 6: have their own you know that at one point they
• 41:18
Speaker 6: were allowed to take a bowl, you know, bid from
• 41:22
Speaker 6: or a place from one of the conferences. Who were
• 41:24
Speaker 6: they tied to, Matt They were tied to a conference ACC.
• 41:28
Speaker 2: No, was it ACC or Big Ten? I know, the
• 41:32
Speaker 2: different for both. Yeah, it was different for different sports.
• 41:34
  Speaker 2: I think.
• 41:34
Speaker 6: Okay, okay, but you're right, You're right it was. But
• 41:37
Speaker 6: I mean, when are we going to stop, you know,
• 41:40
Speaker 6: allowing them the favors when no one else gets them?
• 41:45
  Speaker 2: How did they?
• 41:46
Speaker 5: Okay, so my question is how did this get started?
• 41:50
Speaker 5: How did they all of a sudden become this this
• 41:56
Speaker 5: this organization to be able to like we can kind
• 41:58
Speaker 5: of do what we can whatever it is that we
• 42:00
Speaker 5: want to do. We can we can change things if
• 42:03
Speaker 5: we want to. Where did that come from? How did
• 42:07
  Speaker 5: they get there?
• 42:08
  Speaker 1: What?
• 42:08
Speaker 2: What I think you got to understand?
• 42:11
Speaker 5: Like, so Notre Dame was like the first one of
• 42:13
Speaker 5: the first like major universities really maybe we could say
• 42:17
Speaker 5: almost sporting franchise or whatever to have like national TV contracts.
• 42:23
Speaker 5: So every year excuse me, yeah, every year, every game
• 42:26
Speaker 5: the country saw Notre Dame when like if you were fan,
• 42:31
Speaker 5: so like if you're in your region, if you're in
• 42:33
Speaker 5: the South, you've seeing your team, if you're in the West,
• 42:35
Speaker 5: you seen the team.
• 42:36
Speaker 2: But the nation is seen. So they have a wide
• 42:39
  Speaker 2: reaching fan base.
• 42:40
Speaker 5: They have I'm sure you know booster and I'm sure
• 42:43
Speaker 5: they you know, got a big booster and all other scene.
• 42:46
Speaker 5: An alumni association that's really very powerful. So I think
• 42:50
Speaker 5: that's how they got here. The fact of the matter
• 42:53
Speaker 5: is though, it's just like it is time to move forward.
• 42:55
Speaker 5: Every every other team is move forward. It's time for
• 42:58
Speaker 5: them to join the conference.
• 42:59
Speaker 6: Exactly join it. And you can thank Rudy for this.
• 43:01
Speaker 6: That's what it is.
• 43:02
Speaker 7: What do you do?
• 43:05
Speaker 5: You have a justification in your mind of like why
• 43:08
Speaker 5: they don't want to join a conference.
• 43:11
Speaker 2: The TV money they would have to split it.
• 43:14
Speaker 5: So now, yeah, if you look at the TV deal,
• 43:17
Speaker 5: you look at merchandises, like, they don't have to split
• 43:19
Speaker 5: anything with any conference. They don't have to get up anything.
• 43:22
  Speaker 5: I mean, they they're they're massive. They're almost like a
• 43:25
Speaker 5: conference un into themselves, you know what I mean.
• 43:28
Speaker 2: So they don't have to put no money.
• 43:30
Speaker 6: That's why it was such a big deal when Marshall
• 43:32
Speaker 6: went out to South Bend and beat them that year,
• 43:34
Speaker 6: a couple of years ago. You know that upset that was,
• 43:36
Speaker 6: that was an unbelievable.
• 43:39
Speaker 2: There's no way they would have thought that was going
• 43:41
  Speaker 2: to happen.
• 43:42
Speaker 6: Oh no, no, I mean, I'm sure the alumni, you
• 43:45
Speaker 6: know that they had things to say about that loss.
• 43:48
  Speaker 6: I'm sure.
• 43:48
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 43:49
Speaker 5: I just think you know, when I when I when
• 43:53
Speaker 5: I when I think about power in names of teams,
• 44:00
Speaker 5: I guess when you think of Notre Dame, I can
• 44:03
Speaker 5: remember them from years and years and years and years
• 44:06
Speaker 5: ago growing up. But never did I ever really think
• 44:11
Speaker 5: that there'd be a time that I would like it
• 44:14
Speaker 5: not be a favorite team of mine.
• 44:16
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 44:17
Speaker 5: But I've just I've just lost it because of just
• 44:19
Speaker 5: so many different things that have taken place. I just
• 44:24
Speaker 5: it's like I just don't have any any any feel
• 44:28
Speaker 5: for support of them. I mean, and look at this schedule,
• 44:31
Speaker 5: So you tell me, if this is the top twelve
• 44:33
Speaker 5: schedule at least going into the season, maybe maybe it's
• 44:36
Speaker 5: turned around. Maybe these teams are good. They start off
• 44:38
Speaker 5: with Wisconsin. I believe Wisconsin had a losing record last year.
• 44:42
Speaker 5: Then they go to Rice.
• 44:43
Speaker 6: Oh, come on, great, that's conference yesterday.
• 44:46
Speaker 2: What I don't even know? Are they two?
• 44:50
Speaker 5: Then it's in Michigan State. They haven't been good in
• 44:52
Speaker 5: a while, Purdue has not been good in the while.
• 44:55
Speaker 5: North Carolina is not a good ball club. SMU they're okay,
• 45:00
Speaker 5: Eracuse not a good ball club for a while. Navy
• 45:03
Speaker 5: all respect to Navy, but they're not you know, parental.
• 45:06
Speaker 5: Now you play Miami, good team, Stanford, Stanford not a
• 45:09
Speaker 5: good team. Boston College not a good team. Usc it
• 45:12
Speaker 5: ain't really been good that well. This is a wretched schedule.
• 45:15
Speaker 5: Even if they if all these teams maintain kind of
• 45:19
Speaker 5: what they've been doing the last couple of years, and
• 45:21
Speaker 5: Notre Dame wins all these games, that's not a top
• 45:24
  Speaker 5: twelve team.
• 45:25
Speaker 6: Sorry, that's that's not a top twenty five game.
• 45:29
Speaker 5: So yeah, I was gonna say, it's so awful. How
• 45:32
Speaker 5: are you gonna rank them? How are you going to
• 45:34
Speaker 5: rank them? If those teams go, you know, win two
• 45:37
Speaker 5: or three games in the season, you better win every
• 45:40
Speaker 5: game by forty and fifty points. That's that's the only way.
• 45:43
Speaker 5: Because this is not a great schedule, which is which
• 45:46
Speaker 5: is another bad thing, because you're going to have to
• 45:48
Speaker 5: run the score up. Yeah, every game that you play,
• 45:52
Speaker 5: you're set that have to run the score up.
• 45:56
Speaker 6: Because you know, guys, I can almost guarantee you they
• 46:00
Speaker 6: will be in that top twelve. They will be there
• 46:03
Speaker 6: unless they just blow up and lose to a lot
• 46:08
Speaker 6: of those teams this year. If they can, if they
• 46:10
Speaker 6: can have a winning season, they're going to be there.
• 46:13
Speaker 2: They they shouldn't even be questioning about a winning season.
• 46:17
Speaker 7: How many big teams do you think they need on
• 46:20
  Speaker 7: a on a schedule, because I didn't hear any like
• 46:23
Speaker 7: Ohio State, the only one in so Oklahoma one of
• 46:27
Speaker 7: that the only one.
• 46:29
Speaker 5: Far as I mean Miami USC traditionally USC again hasn't
• 46:32
Speaker 5: been good. Miami's been good these last couple of years.
• 46:35
Speaker 5: SMU is a pretty good team.
• 46:36
  Speaker 2: That's it.
• 46:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, on this current schedule again, unless something shakes up,
• 46:41
Speaker 5: when one of these teams have a run or they
• 46:43
Speaker 5: turn the programming around, this is a wretched schedule.
• 46:46
Speaker 2: This is not a good schedule. Well, that's what it
• 46:48
  Speaker 2: gets back to.
• 46:48
Speaker 7: Why you need something that judges difficulty is scheduled because exactly,
• 46:53
Speaker 7: I mean, for one thing, there's just so many teams
• 46:56
Speaker 7: in college football and they're not all equal. I mean
• 47:00
Speaker 7: that's just I mean we know that as as Marshall
• 47:02
Speaker 7: WVU fans. I mean that only goes so far.
• 47:07
Speaker 5: Well, and the fact that you're you're making your own schedule,
• 47:10
Speaker 5: you're not in a conference, so you're not locked to teams.
• 47:14
Speaker 6: I mean, come on, like they just want special treatment
• 47:17
Speaker 6: and that bothers me a lot, and they get it.
• 47:19
Speaker 6: That's the that's the second problem.
• 47:21
Speaker 2: I just think that not only college football was the
• 47:23
Speaker 2: greatest thing ever and it's just like they just ruined
• 47:26
  Speaker 2: the game.
• 47:27
Speaker 5: Why would you Why would you want to be out
• 47:29
  Speaker 5: of a comp Like everybody's in a conference. Most everybody's
• 47:31
Speaker 5: in a conference, most everybody. Why would you and your
• 47:35
Speaker 5: Notre dame? Why are you not in a conference?
• 47:39
  Speaker 6: That's that's it.
• 47:42
Speaker 7: Well, nobody knows how much money they have as a universe.
• 47:44
Speaker 2: They don't have to report. They don't have to report it,
• 47:47
  Speaker 2: that's right.
• 47:47
  Speaker 7: I mean we're talking about a school that's probably like
• 47:50
Speaker 7: in the billion dollar endowment range, which is I mean,
• 47:55
Speaker 7: they probably have more money just sitting in the bank
• 47:57
Speaker 7: than what some flagship universe of these. Their entire budget
• 48:01
Speaker 7: is for a year, so they including.
• 48:03
Speaker 5: Sports so they can control all that. So again, they
• 48:07
Speaker 5: can give us a trillion reasons, but it all comes
• 48:09
Speaker 5: down to the dollar. So that's why you don't want
• 48:11
Speaker 5: to join the CAR. I mean, if I was in,
• 48:12
Speaker 5: I probably wouldn't want to join the conference neither. But
• 48:15
Speaker 5: I mean, at the same time, as just a college
• 48:17
Speaker 5: football fan, I just hate this. God, I just just yuck.
• 48:21
  Speaker 2: I wouldn't.
• 48:22
Speaker 5: I wouldn't go to Notre Dame like, well, let me
• 48:30
Speaker 5: just say they're going to hit you with a bag
• 48:34
Speaker 5: brand Well let me say it this way, then, like
• 48:39
Speaker 5: I would, I would want to play if I'm at
• 48:44
Speaker 5: Notre Dame, I would want to go and play all
• 48:48
Speaker 5: these guys who are at these major universities.
• 48:52
Speaker 2: I want to go play against them. I want to
• 48:54
Speaker 2: see who they are. I don't want to necessarily be
• 48:57
Speaker 2: sure like that we can win every game on our roster.
• 49:02
  Speaker 2: You know, I just don't want. I don't.
• 49:03
Speaker 5: I don't want every team to be a lower level team.
• 49:07
Speaker 5: I want to go after like I want to play
• 49:09
  Speaker 5: a top team.
• 49:11
  Speaker 2: I don't. I'm not going to go to I'm not
• 49:13
Speaker 2: going to go to Notre Dame and know where play
• 49:16
  Speaker 2: and play Rice.
• 49:17
Speaker 7: Well, here's the thing on that Rice game. I guarantee
• 49:21
Speaker 7: you that Rice game is probably the same thing as
• 49:23
Speaker 7: Marshall going up a couple of years ago. Here's the thing, though,
• 49:26
Speaker 7: Notre Dame doesn't need to be in a conference. Teams
• 49:30
Speaker 7: like West Virginia University, for example, we need a conference. Yes,
• 49:35
Speaker 7: we need that in order to get money. We need that,
• 49:37
Speaker 7: in order to get ranking. You've got to have those
• 49:40
Speaker 7: other teams in the conference. You need that so that
• 49:43
Speaker 7: you can build up your notoriety and you hope that
• 49:46
Speaker 7: the conference is good so that that helps you out.
• 49:50
Speaker 7: Notre Dame doesn't need all that.
• 49:52
Speaker 6: No, it is what it is. I sound like mighty iris.
• 50:02
  Speaker 6: We're going to audience, isn't.
• 50:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm really not. I'm really not a Notre Dame hater.
• 50:07
Speaker 5: Like I said, I love them back in the day,
• 50:10
  Speaker 5: but like I just don't. I just don't understand. I
• 50:14
Speaker 5: just don't understand the direction in which they are trying
• 50:18
Speaker 5: to go and the position in which that they're in,
• 50:22
  Speaker 5: and I don't understand.
• 50:23
Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know if you guys, if if
• 50:25
Speaker 6: you heard about it when it went down, please refresh
• 50:28
Speaker 6: my memory. But I do not remember hearing the chatter
• 50:31
Speaker 6: about this deal back in December at all.
• 50:34
  Speaker 2: I don't remember here.
• 50:34
  Speaker 5: I don't know.
• 50:35
Speaker 6: Like it's almost like they kept it under wraps as
• 50:38
Speaker 6: long as they could, and now it's got Yeah, somebody
• 50:41
Speaker 6: leaked the information and now it's got to be it's
• 50:43
Speaker 6: got to be told.
• 50:44
Speaker 5: My fear is just that, you know, it's just like
• 50:46
Speaker 5: I said, I think it has the potential just to
• 50:48
Speaker 5: corrupt the process and then they'll find every excuse to
• 50:51
Speaker 5: put them in the top twelve, as opposed to just
• 50:54
Speaker 5: judging the legitimacy of what happened on the field with
• 50:57
  Speaker 5: the schedules.
• 50:58
Speaker 2: And what happens, if what happens if other teams do
• 51:02
Speaker 2: I don't think o the team's got cache to do it.
• 51:04
Speaker 2: I think it's like Lisa said, this is a Notre Dame.
• 51:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, but you really never know though. I mean, there
• 51:12
Speaker 5: might be somebody out there that's got got a dollar
• 51:14
Speaker 5: and I'm not going to say they got Notre Dame money,
• 51:16
  Speaker 5: but they may.
• 51:17
Speaker 2: Have still enough to at least try just throw away
• 51:22
Speaker 2: in double A and see double A. Just throw it away,
• 51:25
Speaker 2: just get rid of it, just get.
• 51:29
Speaker 6: Oh it's just going to start a revolution, and just
• 51:31
Speaker 6: get rid of the whole thing.
• 51:32
Speaker 2: We just need to we need to start fresh, and
• 51:35
Speaker 2: that I think I think that would be perfect.
• 51:39
Speaker 5: I think if you could get the right people in
• 51:41
Speaker 5: the room and say, hey, look, let's just get college
• 51:44
Speaker 5: football on track, college sports, college sports as a whole.
• 51:49
Speaker 5: Let's make it region make it, make it, make it
• 51:52
Speaker 5: regional like it should be. Everybody you want to play
• 51:55
Speaker 5: teams that are close to you like you should be playing.
• 51:58
Speaker 5: We're going to have a playoff. We're not gonna do
• 52:00
Speaker 5: this silly stuff and it just make it simple, just
• 52:04
Speaker 5: make it, make it great again.
• 52:06
Speaker 7: Here's when you know things started to go wrong. How
• 52:09
Speaker 7: many teams are in the Big twelve conference?
• 52:11
Speaker 2: A gazillion, it's not twelve. I make teams are in
• 52:15
Speaker 2: the Big ten. It's not ten. Yeah, you're right, when
• 52:18
  Speaker 2: things started going.
• 52:20
  Speaker 6: We can't count. That's a problem.
• 52:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, well all right, then we'll we'll end. We'll end
• 52:27
Speaker 2: on that fight right there.
• 52:28
  Speaker 5: And I don't know, I don't I don't know if
• 52:30
Speaker 5: we solved anything there or created more.
• 52:34
Speaker 2: But ladies and gentlemen, we'll be back again next week.
• 52:36
Speaker 2: We appreciate you being here.
• 52:37
  Speaker 8: Thank you.
• 52:38
Speaker 3: You gotta work, bry Son. It's mine, gotta show everybody
• 52:42

• 52:47

Speaker 1: gotta work. Yeah, you gotta work. Yeah, you got work.

• 53:03
Speaker 3: dim in the dirt, ain't in jym going for greatness.
• 53:07
Speaker 3: I gotta win by any means, because I don't know
• 53:09
Speaker 3: when I'll be back again. Going hard, I gotta get it, man,
• 53:12
Speaker 3: I can't even lie. I put in some much sweat.
• 53:14
Speaker 2: My body an't running.
• 53:15
Speaker 3: Try. I said so many tens now, I don't want
• 53:18
Speaker 3: to try and ize coming.
• 53:19
Speaker 2: Neither to me. All I had to do is try.
• 53:21
Speaker 3: I had to work, put myself through it, even though
• 53:23
Speaker 3: I knew it hurts. Look at you doing right there.
• 53:26
Speaker 3: It don't matter who doing first. Never say yourself short,
• 53:28
  Speaker 3: I know your work. I knew I wasn't the one
• 53:30
Speaker 3: that sends birth. I had to work, ry Shine, just
• 53:34

• 53:55
Speaker 3: in the time. Never quit, never give up. If you
• 53:58
Speaker 3: fall behind, anything you worth fuck comes to you by design.
• 54:01
Speaker 3: I'm said, chuts will never stop you because it's all
• 54:03
Speaker 3: in your mind. If you fall, does it, don't forget
• 54:06
Speaker 3: back up on your feet. Anything can be a win. Yup,
• 54:09
Speaker 3: even the feet that say shits a bath for you?
• 54:11
Speaker 3: Wise Vineitary Sweet couldn't play with big kids. I had
• 54:14
Speaker 3: to sit in the street and watch from a distance.
• 54:16
Speaker 3: But over time I grew. If I put in the
• 54:19
Speaker 3: work and no time, I'm doing everything that I worked
• 54:22
Speaker 3: and prayed the Mokay, if you ask me how did.
• 54:24
Speaker 2: I do it, I'm gonna say.
• 54:26
Speaker 3: You gotta work, cry shine. It's mine gotta show. Everybody
• 54:30
  Speaker 3: is my time.
• 54:30
  Speaker 5: Hein here.

• 54:33
  Speaker 2: Never mind who.
