Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey guys, and welcome back to another week of dirty Rush.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We already went through the rush process with you guys,
- 0:18Speaker 1: but now we're going to get into what life is
- 0:21Speaker 1: like after the rush process. We're going to dive into
- 0:25Speaker 1: what it's like to be a pledge in a sorority.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And here we have Ava with us. She is going
- 0:32Speaker 1: to tell us her pledge story.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:36Speaker 3: So I went to a small school in Connecticut, a
- 0:40Speaker 3: small private school, and our rush was very similar to
- 0:44Speaker 3: everything you guys spoke about before. You know, you saw
- 0:46Speaker 3: the different sororities. The rush for us was the easy part.
- 0:51Speaker 3: We basically like went into different rooms, you met the girls,
- 0:54Speaker 3: you know, you got to know them, you had conversations,
- 0:57Speaker 3: and then you got a bid. So the sorority that
- 1:00Speaker 3: I got a bid for was a was a Jewish sorority,
- 1:04Speaker 3: And the easy part was the rushing, and once you
- 1:09Speaker 3: got a bid, it was crazy. So some of the things,
- 1:13Speaker 3: like instantly there were I think there were like eight
- 1:15Speaker 3: or nine of us.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Oh, so, very your pledge class was very.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Small, really really small.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Do you mind, like you don't have to, of course,
- 1:23Speaker 1: but do you mind disclosing maybe what sorority you were
- 1:26Speaker 1: in or yeah, sure, I was in eight by oh okay,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I mean very very well known sorority.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Though very well known sorority, a really great sorority, you know.
- 1:37Speaker 3: But I think our school did things a little bit differently,
- 1:40Speaker 3: maybe because it was smaller. This was also back in
- 1:45Speaker 3: two thous like early two.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Thousands, okay, got it.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah, So we kind of pledge like a fraternity. We
- 1:53Speaker 3: were hazed from day one. So the second you got
- 1:56Speaker 3: your bid and you accepted, you had to get apack
- 2:00Speaker 3: and in your backpack you had to carry a brick
- 2:03Speaker 3: the entire time, which was sounds like, oh, that's kind
- 2:07Speaker 3: of strange, but that was nothing. You had to carry
- 2:09Speaker 3: a brick. You had to carry like a ziplock with
- 2:13Speaker 3: anything that one of the sisters could want you had
- 2:15Speaker 3: to have in that ziplock at all times, so that
- 2:19Speaker 3: could be like cigarettes, hair fings, chapstick whatever.
- 2:23Speaker 1: You were like their assistant.
- 2:25Speaker 3: We we were definitely like their assistant.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I want to say you were like there, but I
- 2:30Speaker 1: don't know if that's a lot.
- 2:33Speaker 3: We were fully there, Like we had to at the
- 2:37Speaker 3: drop of a hat if we got a phone call
- 2:39Speaker 3: or a text from them, we had to leave whatever
- 2:42Speaker 3: we were doing to either. There were so many things like.
- 2:45Speaker 1: If they yeah, that is kind of crazy because that
- 2:49Speaker 1: does give fraternity it's their eternity. Yeah, because even my
- 2:54Speaker 1: freshman year of college, it was me and my roommate
- 2:58Speaker 1: and her boyfriend at the time was rushing and he
- 3:01Speaker 1: would receive phone calls at like four am, one am
- 3:05Speaker 1: because he would sleep over in the dorms all the time.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And that gives very frat like rather than sorority life
- 3:12Speaker 1: because that didn't happen to me and we rushed at
- 3:15Speaker 1: the same time.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And like, once you hear everything that I'm going to say,
- 3:19Speaker 3: the fraternities had its ten times worse. So like we
- 3:23Speaker 3: had it bad, but the fraternities had it way worse.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Wow.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so okay. So some of the things we had
- 3:30Speaker 3: to do for them at the drop of a hat
- 3:32Speaker 3: was park their cars on campus, pick them up from
- 3:35Speaker 3: the bars at any time of the night, clean their rooms.
- 3:41Speaker 3: We had to so our campus like the some of
- 3:46Speaker 3: the dorms were like apartments, so they would say I
- 3:50Speaker 3: want cheetos right now, and you would have to steal
- 3:53Speaker 3: from other people's dorm rooms. Like you'd have to go
- 3:56Speaker 3: in and out, running in and out of people's dormoms
- 3:58Speaker 3: and steal whatever food they wanted. Yeah, it was.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Crazy and like oh my god. So it's not like
- 4:04Speaker 1: you enter the store.
- 4:07Speaker 3: That your room could have been the store. It was
- 4:09Speaker 3: like I want chocolate chip cookies, go find them, like
- 4:12Speaker 3: I want them, you have to be back here in
- 4:14Speaker 3: three minutes. So yeah, I mean that was you know,
- 4:18Speaker 3: we had to but like I said, we had to
- 4:20Speaker 3: drive around, clean their apartments, do their homework and papers. Wow,
- 4:25Speaker 3: And again that was the easy stuff.
- 4:27Speaker 1: How long was your pledging process?
- 4:30Speaker 3: It was around six weeks, so it was a while.
- 4:34Speaker 3: And during that time you had to be there. You
- 4:37Speaker 3: could not be anywhere else. So like as it got
- 4:40Speaker 3: worse as it went on. We went into Hell Week,
- 4:42Speaker 3: which was like the last week of pledging. Even before
- 4:45Speaker 3: at Hell Week, actually, one of the things that we
- 4:46Speaker 3: had to do was like they would say sizzle like bacons.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You would have to drop to the floor and sizzle,
- 4:53Speaker 3: and then they'd say flip over and you'd have to
- 4:55Speaker 3: Like it's just like.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Embarrassing, you know, and yeah, I mean, what are you
- 4:59Speaker 1: like so on the ground?
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yes, And like they would have fraternities come in and
- 5:03Speaker 3: they would tell you to sizzle like bacon.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And it was just like demeaning, you know, yeah, of course,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I mean especially when the Frock guys come in. It's
- 5:10Speaker 1: like probably guys that you were like, you know, interested
- 5:13Speaker 1: in or thought we're cute, and then they're watching you
- 5:15Speaker 1: like squeal on the ground.
- 5:16Speaker 3: That's embarrassing, and like they would you had to they
- 5:19Speaker 3: would like test you. So you had to know like
- 5:22Speaker 3: the Greek alphabet. You had to know the Greek alphabet,
- 5:25Speaker 3: and they would light a match and pull it upside
- 5:27Speaker 3: down and if you would have to say the Greek
- 5:30Speaker 3: alphabet correctly before it burned them, and then if it
- 5:33Speaker 3: burned them, then like all hell broke loose. You were
- 5:36Speaker 3: yelled at. There were punishments, like physical punishments like push ups,
- 5:40Speaker 3: jumping jacks. You would have to sit against the wall
- 5:43Speaker 3: like real, were.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You in boot camp?
- 5:46Speaker 3: Like what I know exactly, it was like we were
- 5:49Speaker 3: in boot camp. So then as we so are, we
- 5:53Speaker 3: didn't have houses. We had basements. So the baitin of
- 5:58Speaker 3: the dorms had our room, any thigh rooms, that's like
- 6:01Speaker 3: our house.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Interesting, so like it so that the school could so
- 6:06Speaker 1: like Panhell could like monitor it in a way.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Not at all because there was no monitoring, okay, just
- 6:12Speaker 3: because we were such a small school and there were
- 6:14Speaker 3: no houses, so they just gave each of us a room.
- 6:17Speaker 1: That's interesting because I know a lot of like other
- 6:20Speaker 1: like because I don't I don't know what's if you
- 6:21Speaker 1: don't mind, I mean, I if you don't mind sharing,
- 6:24Speaker 1: it totally up to you. But I know the other
- 6:26Speaker 1: smaller schools in Connecticut, like Fairfield or Sacred Heart. Actually
- 6:30Speaker 1: I don't even think Fairfield had Greek life, if I'm
- 6:32Speaker 1: not wrong, But Sacred Heart they had like rocks, rocks
- 6:38Speaker 1: like represented their sorority, but I don't think they had
- 6:42Speaker 1: anywhere to go.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah, we had like a dingy, old dusty basement room.
- 6:49Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 6:49Speaker 3: It's like old car.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You had like chapter and stuff in there.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Exactly, we had Chapter in there. But so what happened
- 6:56Speaker 3: was during hell week, they took away all of our
- 6:59Speaker 3: keys to dorm rooms. We weren't allowed to shower or
- 7:03Speaker 3: go to our dorm rooms, and so we would have
- 7:06Speaker 3: to sleep in the chapter room in the base a
- 7:08Speaker 3: week for a week. But they told us you're not
- 7:11Speaker 3: allowed to sleep and they're like, we have cameras, you
- 7:13Speaker 3: can't go in the back room. So for a week.
- 7:16Speaker 3: We and you weren't allowed to sit on the couches
- 7:18Speaker 3: when you were pledging, so we would have to lay
- 7:20Speaker 3: on the floor and like use our backpacks as pillows.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And so that was the one time in my life
- 7:27Speaker 3: where we survived on adderall. We all took adderall.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I could only imagine.
- 7:33Speaker 3: So remember, if you don't have a dorm room, you
- 7:35Speaker 3: don't have a shower, so you were not allowed to shower.
- 7:39Speaker 3: And what they would do is they would come in
- 7:41Speaker 3: and they would put like all different condiments in our hair,
- 7:44Speaker 3: like catch up mayow mustard, like disgusting smelly stuff.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Well and I've heard about this within like fraternities, but
- 7:53Speaker 1: I've never heard this with sororities before ever.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, so we would have to walk around, like I
- 7:59Speaker 3: washed my hair in a public bathroom, like in a
- 8:03Speaker 3: same one time, just to like try the smell, like
- 8:06Speaker 3: I can still smell it. Imagine like mayo mustard ca
- 8:10Speaker 3: up in your hair.
- 8:11Speaker 1: No, that's mortifying. And then going to class. I wouldn't
- 8:14Speaker 1: even show up.
- 8:15Speaker 2: A class like that.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and not sleeping that on top of not sleeping, of.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Course, how are you even focusing everyone's looking at you
- 8:22Speaker 1: throughout campus? Probably thinking you smell. But like because your
- 8:26Speaker 1: campus was a smaller school, did they knew that, Like
- 8:30Speaker 1: they knew that this was happening to you.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I knew, like this is what happens when you go
- 8:36Speaker 3: through the process, and like it was like a medal
- 8:38Speaker 3: of honor.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I would have I would have given
- 8:42Speaker 1: you a medal of honor. This is like reminding me
- 8:45Speaker 1: of Special Forces.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Which I love. By the way, I'm watching it, Oh
- 8:49Speaker 3: so thank you. But yeah, I mean it there were
- 8:53Speaker 3: many times where like we the six of us, would
- 8:56Speaker 3: just say, like that's it, We're done.
- 8:58Speaker 1: What were you allowed to draw?
- 9:01Speaker 3: I mean yeah, if you'd remember it was such a
- 9:03Speaker 3: small school, you dropped out, that was it for you,
- 9:05Speaker 3: Like there was no coming back.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone would have known.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and like those five girls like they were my
- 9:11Speaker 3: best friends, Like those were my people.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I mean after going through that, you're like trauma bonded.
- 9:17Speaker 3: No, for sure, Like I mean the things like if
- 9:20Speaker 3: we wanted to drink water, we have to like miaw
- 9:23Speaker 3: and drink from like a dirty water bowl on the ground,
- 9:26Speaker 3: like really disgusting thing.
- 9:28Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah, but did things turn around after this?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Like so after they basically just treated you, like horribly
- 9:38Speaker 1: and completely basically at the end of the day, they
- 9:41Speaker 1: were basically trying to make you feel like a shell
- 9:44Speaker 1: of a person, like make you feel like nothing.
- 9:46Speaker 3: But you had to feel like you went through it
- 9:49Speaker 3: and you deserved after everything, like you deserve to be
- 9:52Speaker 3: there because they all went through it, so they so
- 9:56Speaker 3: if you didn't go through it, you didn't deserve to
- 9:58Speaker 3: be with these people.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the worst I've ever heard was sitting
- 10:04Speaker 1: on a washer or dryer naked. But who knows if
- 10:07Speaker 1: that's even true. I mean maybe because the things that
- 10:11Speaker 1: you're telling me right now, I actually can't even fathom
- 10:14Speaker 1: that this happened to you.
- 10:16Speaker 3: They took one of my clutchesters one night and we
- 10:19Speaker 3: had to go on a scavenger hunt to find her,
- 10:21Speaker 3: and she was wasted, crying, like they got her beyond wasted.
- 10:27Speaker 1: That's so scary because that happened at the school that
- 10:32Speaker 1: I went to, and the pledge ended up dead. So
- 10:38Speaker 1: you know, it's like that stuff gets very crazy because
- 10:43Speaker 1: that's when you know sororities and fraternities I think, get
- 10:47Speaker 1: a little out of hand and like never know when
- 10:50Speaker 1: enough is enough. And then at the end and then
- 10:53Speaker 1: ultimately take it too far. Maybe they don't mean to,
- 10:57Speaker 1: but like then it's like they look at it as
- 10:59Speaker 1: a game and it's pure entertainment until it's not.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Well, that's what it was. For the sisters. It was
- 11:05Speaker 3: like funny for them to watch us go through it,
- 11:08Speaker 3: even though they had gone through it before and felt
- 11:10Speaker 3: the same way as us.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it was almost like he he he, this
- 11:14Speaker 1: is my enjoyment because I went through this, and now
- 11:16Speaker 1: you're going to suffer like I did.
- 11:19Speaker 3: After my pledge class. It wasn't the same, like they
- 11:23Speaker 3: No one was hates that hard anymore. Like our year
- 11:27Speaker 3: was like kind of the last year that it happened.
- 11:30Speaker 3: It just got like less and less because they did,
- 11:33Speaker 3: you know, people started catching on and they were getting
- 11:35Speaker 3: in trouble for it, so then the schools found out.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, but like it was, it was rough. You know,
- 11:41Speaker 3: these are things that I really had to like spend
- 11:44Speaker 3: some time and think about because once you go through it,
- 11:46Speaker 3: you like wipe it from your brain.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Oh for sure.
- 11:50Speaker 3: And also like once we were in I wanted nothing
- 11:53Speaker 3: to do with these girls.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it's like, screw you.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I ended up not really taking part in anything. Oh, God,
- 12:02Speaker 3: It's just like, what's wrong with these people that they
- 12:04Speaker 3: could treat us like that and then they think we're
- 12:06Speaker 3: their friends, you know, Like it was just I only
- 12:09Speaker 3: I right now, I only one of my pleasuresters is
- 12:12Speaker 3: still one of my very close friends. But otherwise I
- 12:14Speaker 3: don't really speak to anybody from my sorority.
- 12:17Speaker 1: So you went through the whole process and then ended
- 12:21Speaker 1: up really not even being an active member in your
- 12:24Speaker 1: sorority exactly. I mean I understand it though. You were
- 12:28Speaker 1: probably just so turned off by like the whole thing.
- 12:31Speaker 3: They were mean girls, Like they were just mean girls.
- 12:34Speaker 3: You know, we were their entertainment, and then it's like,
- 12:38Speaker 3: you know, you get like mind fucked, and then you're
- 12:42Speaker 3: expected to just go to parties with them, and that's
- 12:46Speaker 3: not how I operate. So I was just kind of like,
- 12:49Speaker 3: these are not my people.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean I totally get that. And then
- 12:53Speaker 1: for the following year, you were so were you affiliated
- 12:57Speaker 1: with your sorority? All four years, I.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Was affiliated, but I didn't really go to anything. But
- 13:03Speaker 3: like I said, it was a small school, so you
- 13:06Speaker 3: kind of have a choice.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah. So then when it came to rush the next year,
- 13:11Speaker 1: did you you obviously had to participate in the Russian
- 13:14Speaker 1: pledging process because you were in the sorority.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Well, at some point I did end up being a
- 13:19Speaker 3: sistant pledge mom, okay, but doing it very different.
- 13:23Speaker 1: So you kind of were like, I am turning this
- 13:26Speaker 1: leaf and I am not doing what they did to
- 13:28Speaker 1: me to these new.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Girls exactly how effort. They did kick me out halfway
- 13:33Speaker 3: because I didn't go to one of their events. So
- 13:36Speaker 3: I started out as the assistant pledge moment, and then
- 13:38Speaker 3: they took it away from me, got it, Yeah, which
- 13:41Speaker 3: was fine.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, at least you were trying to make
- 13:46Speaker 1: a difference.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I just don't, like, I have a daughter, and I
- 13:51Speaker 3: just can't imagine knowing that she was going through something
- 13:54Speaker 3: like this. No one like you lose all self respect
- 13:58Speaker 3: and for what really, for what though?
- 14:01Speaker 1: You know, I mean at the end of the day,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and even when I was at school, yes, sorority life
- 14:07Speaker 1: was so fun and you get to meet so many people.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But once you do that, I don't know, it comes
- 14:15Speaker 1: to a point where you don't know if this is
- 14:19Speaker 1: even worth it anymore, because you have your people.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Already, right, I had my people, my pledge shisters, the
- 14:27Speaker 3: six of us were super close and that was really
- 14:30Speaker 3: all I needed after that.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Well, Eva, I'm so sorry that happened to you. That's
- 14:35Speaker 1: like the most horrible pledge story I've ever heard from
- 14:39Speaker 1: a sorority in my life.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Listen to your stories on here and I'm like, wow,
- 14:43Speaker 3: that's such a nice experience.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Like you're like, that's light work. This is nothing compared
- 14:49Speaker 1: to what I went through.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Ever.
- 14:51Speaker 3: I had a cousin who was in a sorority at
- 14:53Speaker 3: USC and it was like we got letters from our
- 14:55Speaker 3: sisters and gifts from our bigs and this and.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, and we didn't experience any of
- 15:02Speaker 1: that at Rutgers. I mean, the most haze worthy thing
- 15:08Speaker 1: we experienced was Big Little Night when like our bigs
- 15:12Speaker 1: were supposed to get us like really drunk, but it
- 15:16Speaker 1: wasn't in a malicious way. It was like, Okay, if
- 15:19Speaker 1: you got too drunk, your big would take care of you.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Like it wasn't to make you feel less than yourself
- 15:27Speaker 1: or it was purely to have a fun night. So
- 15:31Speaker 1: that's a lot.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the night that we got in it
- 15:36Speaker 3: was like do I go back and sleep and wash
- 15:39Speaker 3: my hair, or like do I go out with everyone
- 15:42Speaker 3: and party, and like you were exhausted. You know you
- 15:45Speaker 3: were exhausted. You were gross your hair, I mean your
- 15:48Speaker 3: hair takes Imagine a week of like Mayo mustard stuff
- 15:51Speaker 3: in your hair. It's like so much time to recover
- 15:54Speaker 3: from that.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean you probably also just felt so
- 15:58Speaker 1: mentally drained. It was a week of not sleeping, constantly
- 16:02Speaker 1: taking adderall to keep your to keep you awake, and
- 16:06Speaker 1: just constant torture. You are so mentally exhausted by the
- 16:10Speaker 1: time that was over. I would have wanted to shower
- 16:12Speaker 1: and lay in my bed and not move for a week.
- 16:14Speaker 1: So I give you a lot of credit.
- 16:17Speaker 3: That's use dishwashers so on your hair, like that's what
- 16:20Speaker 3: they said. They're like, go get like dawn soap, And that's.
- 16:23Speaker 1: How because it would have been that hard to get
- 16:25Speaker 1: out without like normal yeah, just.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Like growths and not something I would ever sign up
- 16:31Speaker 3: for again, that's for sure.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Oh my god. Well, Ava, thank you so much for
- 16:35Speaker 1: telling your story and coming on too Dirty Rush. I
- 16:39Speaker 1: am happy that you found your happiness after pledging and
- 16:43Speaker 1: that that was not going to define you. So kudos
- 16:47Speaker 1: to you.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Thanks for having me, and I'm happy listening to everyone's
- 16:51Speaker 3: fun stories on here. So you guys are doing a
- 16:53Speaker 3: great job.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I think you're taking it home. I don't know.
- 17:07Speaker 4: If you are Team Jeremiah, you probably need some help
- 17:11Speaker 4: in the love department. Listen to I Do Part two
- 17:14Speaker 4: to help correct your choices in men. Listen to I
- 17:18Speaker 4: Do Part two on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, or
- 17:21Speaker 4: wherever you get your podcasts.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Hi Paige, and welcome to Dirty Rush. I am so
- 17:31Speaker 1: excited to hear your pledge story.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I'm excited to tell you about them white fun. Oh
- 17:37Speaker 2: them's there's a multitude. Yeah. Okay, I was a new
- 17:43Speaker 2: member at and this was about a year ago. Because
- 17:47Speaker 2: we're doing big little stuff right now, and I'm getting
- 17:49Speaker 2: super reminiscent about all of it.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Oh wow, Okay, so you're a sophomore.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yes, I'm a sophomore. Awesome and my big So if
- 18:00Speaker 2: you don't know a lot about big little stuff, it's
- 18:03Speaker 2: very like, oh, you're like getting introduced to the sorority.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And in my case, it was like my third week
- 18:08Speaker 2: of college, like I just had gotten there.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Oh I know. And then you're going on like speed
- 18:13Speaker 1: dating with all these girls and having this crazy experience
- 18:18Speaker 1: and trying to act like you're going to find your
- 18:20Speaker 1: best friend in a minute.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Exactly the best idealized version of yourself. But anyways, a
- 18:27Speaker 2: lot of the bigs, it's this whole kind of mantra
- 18:31Speaker 2: of like showering their littles with like gifts and like lots.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Of love and like older peril and anything like that.
- 18:38Speaker 2: My big had a little bit of a spin on
- 18:41Speaker 2: her how she was embracing me into her community, and
- 18:46Speaker 2: it came in the form of like a bunch of
- 18:48Speaker 2: masks the nights leading up to like our big little reveal.
- 18:53Speaker 2: I have a list of them so that I didn't
- 18:55Speaker 2: forget any She was friends with a lot of the
- 19:00Speaker 2: in various like rats and sororities, which once again, I'm
- 19:04Speaker 2: like freshly eighteen at a brand new school of like
- 19:07Speaker 2: forty thousand people, and I was like, this is a lot.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, and especially if she knew everyone, she
- 19:15Speaker 1: could easily like I know, in that moment, you were
- 19:18Speaker 1: probably like, Okay, this girl can ruin my life if
- 19:21Speaker 1: I don't do what she wants me to do, or
- 19:23Speaker 1: ruin my social life. Like I totally get it, but
- 19:26Speaker 1: I went.
- 19:27Speaker 2: My first one was reading a limerick to the Fiji
- 19:30Speaker 2: president reading a what a limerick with a type of
- 19:34Speaker 2: poem at all?
- 19:36Speaker 1: I was like, what is that?
- 19:37Speaker 2: It was hilarious. It was like nine pm. She's like,
- 19:40Speaker 2: you have fifteen minutes to write this and perform this
- 19:42Speaker 2: for him outside of his house. I didn't know who
- 19:44Speaker 2: he was. I didn't know where this rat was or
- 19:46Speaker 2: like how I was getting in contact with him, But
- 19:50Speaker 2: thanks to Instagram dms made it all work. And then
- 19:54Speaker 2: along those lines, there's also performing a happy Birthday ballad
- 20:00Speaker 2: to the pie Fi president, which I had gotten dropped
- 20:04Speaker 2: from pi Fi the first day rush. So that was
- 20:06Speaker 2: a little nice to the heart.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Oh my god. But wait, so she made you like
- 20:12Speaker 1: go around to other sororities too and do this?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, this was a whole Greek event. It was.
- 20:19Speaker 2: It was great, though.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I feel like that's a little strange though, because why
- 20:24Speaker 1: would she want to like advertise that she's torturing her
- 20:28Speaker 1: little to other sororities. Does that make sense?
- 20:32Speaker 2: Fair? That's a fair I guess. I never really looked
- 20:35Speaker 2: at it like that they were all in this network
- 20:39Speaker 2: of like they were all probably doing similar things to.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Their little like they were all doing it so all
- 20:45Speaker 1: like the presidents or the people who were like higher
- 20:47Speaker 1: up in the sorority were doing it, Yes.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And I think it's just like the same way they
- 20:54Speaker 2: were kind of they had big little when they were
- 20:57Speaker 2: a little as well.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So did the rest of your pledge class get treated
- 21:01Speaker 1: like this? Yeah?
- 21:03Speaker 2: This is just like.
- 21:04Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, Like this it's a little weird.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah it was. Oh, I guess this is how
- 21:11Speaker 2: like frat hazing kind of perpetuates too. It's like a
- 21:16Speaker 2: it's a weird form of endearment a little bit. And
- 21:19Speaker 2: also I had a lot of fun doing the tasks.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Not to Okay, I mean listen, if you enjoyed it
- 21:25Speaker 1: and you're not saying that this is something that like
- 21:27Speaker 1: affected you or like made you feel upset, then go
- 21:31Speaker 1: for it. Okay, all right, what were some of the
- 21:34Speaker 1: other ones? I'm interested because you're I think I feel
- 21:37Speaker 1: like you're looking at this as a form of entertainment.
- 21:40Speaker 2: It it was for me, so I feel like.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You're a confident person.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I just was kind of like, oh, I live on
- 21:47Speaker 2: a floating rock, Like I'm not.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I'm not that deep good mentality.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I'm like pretty close with the girl that I performed
- 21:55Speaker 2: to the birthday ballad for now it's like a it's
- 21:58Speaker 2: a running like. Also, it wasn't her birthday, it was
- 22:02Speaker 2: like just the random day of the week. The other
- 22:06Speaker 2: ones these were kind of low stakes. There was a
- 22:09Speaker 2: lot of texting in our flare, which is like like
- 22:13Speaker 2: a sorority like messenger.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Yeah, like a group may almost.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, asking for but itch ointment and just following
- 22:25Speaker 2: up with like something going on, like don't ask. Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 2: There was some snapchats like swipe up for a tvh
- 22:33Speaker 2: like like just embarrassing stuff to put on like your sociiyeah.
- 22:39Speaker 2: One of one of the highlights was I petitioned for
- 22:43Speaker 2: animal rights in front of this like fountain on campus.
- 22:50Speaker 2: But yeah, that was actually pretty fun because I dressed
- 22:52Speaker 2: as a I dressed in a gorilla suits and no
- 22:54Speaker 2: one would recognize me. And also, okay, yeah, channel lot
- 23:00Speaker 2: of free time, let me tell you to come up
- 23:02Speaker 2: with these things.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, she was definitely brainstorming a lot. But
- 23:06Speaker 1: I mean, Padre, I give you a lot of credit.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I mean, your confidence is through the roof because anyone else,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, I feel like any other
- 23:14Speaker 1: girl would not be okay with this. It would be
- 23:18Speaker 1: absolutely mortified to do any of these things. So I
- 23:21Speaker 1: mean kudos to you because it takes I think a
- 23:24Speaker 1: girl with high confidence and a girl with a high
- 23:27Speaker 1: I don't give a attitude or what people say or
- 23:29Speaker 1: think about me to do any of these things.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I was. I don't know if I if I
- 23:35Speaker 2: should say, like what school I'm at, but I'm at Berkeley.
- 23:38Speaker 2: There's a lot of there's weirder shit going on out there,
- 23:44Speaker 2: petitions or rights, like I would say, like maybe like
- 23:47Speaker 2: six people like did a double take, like not it
- 23:50Speaker 2: was kind of like a normal day. It was a
- 23:52Speaker 2: normal day in Berkeley.
- 23:53Speaker 1: They're like, Okay, there's somebody else chanting about something that
- 23:57Speaker 1: they believe in today. Okay.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Really helped with the embarrassment factor, and like there it
- 24:03Speaker 2: could be it would be a lot weirder somewhere else.
- 24:07Speaker 1: That's so funny.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Wrote more book reports for these pledge tasks or like
- 24:13Speaker 2: pledged tasks. Then I have my entire career pat school
- 24:17Speaker 2: so far about children's books that she left me in
- 24:23Speaker 2: my like room decor situation. And then I also wrote
- 24:27Speaker 2: a book report about it was like a self help
- 24:29Speaker 2: book about klepto being a kleptomaniac. Kleptomaniac, that's a whole
- 24:35Speaker 2: nother can of worms. My roommates and I were like
- 24:38Speaker 2: running around frats stealing things, which was probably not great either.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Oh my god, and this is all this is all
- 24:44Speaker 1: set up from your sorority.
- 24:47Speaker 2: No that the stealing was on her own CORNERO.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Oh, like you just wrote a book report about being
- 24:51Speaker 1: a kleptomaniac.
- 24:53Speaker 2: A self help book. She knew. I was like, I
- 24:57Speaker 2: didn't know she was, and she was like, yeah, my
- 24:59Speaker 2: little is like cle I'm gonna give her this book.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Oh no, I really hope the ceiling phase is over. Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Cool incident and then we retired.
- 25:13Speaker 1: We were like, yeah, you got like you got like
- 25:16Speaker 1: a nice high from it. It made you like it
- 25:19Speaker 1: was exciting.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, there was like dead Okay, I don't know because
- 25:25Speaker 2: my big was saying, you might want to talk about
- 25:27Speaker 2: this separately. But there was like a whole composite like
- 25:32Speaker 2: hostage situation, Like we had this composite from a frat,
- 25:36Speaker 2: like held hostage from the frat for months, and our
- 25:39Speaker 2: next door neighbor was a pledge in the frat and
- 25:42Speaker 2: like six months after we stole it. He broke into
- 25:44Speaker 2: our room to take it back, and there's there was like.
- 25:47Speaker 5: It was one night, and then the composite went back
- 25:50Speaker 5: to the frat, and then we went back into the
- 25:52Speaker 5: frat and stole it, and they like chased us down
- 25:54Speaker 5: the street and then so we sent one of our
- 25:56Speaker 5: other neighbors in to like distract them, and then skill
- 25:59Speaker 5: the fence and got the composite back.
- 26:02Speaker 1: It was Yeah, God, the.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Kleptomaniac book was probably important for us to read.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I could see that. Well. I mean, aside
- 26:14Speaker 1: from all of that, I'm happy, I'm happy you have
- 26:17Speaker 1: self reflected on being a kleptomaniac. I'm also happy that
- 26:22Speaker 1: your big gave you what was it, a self.
- 26:27Speaker 2: It was a self help book.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Okay, wait, why did you need self help for being
- 26:31Speaker 1: a kleptomaniac? Yeah, got it. Okay, So the cleptomaniac thing
- 26:35Speaker 1: that is solved. But other than that, like the fact
- 26:40Speaker 1: that you embraced doing all of these tasks for yourself
- 26:46Speaker 1: is saying a wild, wild amount about your character. You're
- 26:51Speaker 1: very confident, You're clearly very funny and just kind of
- 26:56Speaker 1: live in the moment. So I mean embrace it, because
- 26:59Speaker 1: I don't like a lot of girls in your situation
- 27:02Speaker 1: would have taken it as well as you did.
- 27:04Speaker 2: So are you saying you wouldn't petition for animal rides?
- 27:08Speaker 1: Maybe not? No, wait that's bad because I love animals.
- 27:12Speaker 1: But I just I would definitely be embarrassed on campus
- 27:16Speaker 1: while doing it.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Fair fair, fair, fair.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 2: It was yeah, definitely a learning experience, but it was fun.
- 27:26Speaker 1: So when your big was actually revealed to oh wait,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you didn't know who your big was the entire time
- 27:31Speaker 1: that she was making you do this, Oh my god.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So the but then, so this was during like your
- 27:38Speaker 1: speed dating process, because then how did she like lock
- 27:42Speaker 1: you in? You know what I mean?
- 27:44Speaker 2: You speed date and then you like the little will
- 27:47Speaker 2: rank who they want, and the big will also rank
- 27:50Speaker 2: who they want. And then if it's like it's like
- 27:53Speaker 2: some weird system, if it's like a perfect one to
- 27:54Speaker 2: one match, you end up with like.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, of course I know that whole system. But
- 27:59Speaker 1: then how did she get you to do these things
- 28:05Speaker 1: before knowing who she was?
- 28:08Speaker 2: She knew that I was her little, I wasn't sure
- 28:12Speaker 2: who was my big, Like I had a feeling it
- 28:14Speaker 2: was this person. And after the task started growing, and
- 28:17Speaker 2: I knew it was her because like, this is so
- 28:20Speaker 2: on brand for her.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So you didn't have big Little reveal.
- 28:24Speaker 2: This was just the lead up to big little reveal.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Wait, I really am not understanding how she pulled this off. Then,
- 28:31Speaker 1: so was everybody else's potential big doing this to their
- 28:35Speaker 1: potential little?
- 28:36Speaker 2: No, she was texting through an anonymous.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Phone number saying like I'm gonna be your big do
- 28:43Speaker 1: this stuff. Yeah, oh my god, Okay, that's funny. And
- 28:48Speaker 1: so then how did you feel when your big was
- 28:51Speaker 1: revealed to you?
- 28:52Speaker 2: A sense of like, oh yeah, it was right?
- 28:55Speaker 1: Was it like a sense of relief or like I'm
- 28:57Speaker 1: happy about this?
- 29:00Speaker 2: Like I was never mad about it in the first place.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I thought it was hilarious, but it was like, yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 2: this makes so much sense. Like I had a feeling
- 29:08Speaker 2: it was who my big was, and then when it
- 29:11Speaker 2: was revealed, I'm like, yeah, like of course it was you,
- 29:14Speaker 2: Like only you would do this like clown stuff.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Fun Our reveal was at the end, but we like
- 29:22Speaker 1: this is why I was like confused because we speed
- 29:24Speaker 1: dated like basically all the way up until like the reveal,
- 29:29Speaker 1: and then like before the reveal, you like kind of
- 29:32Speaker 1: knew who your big was because if you were like
- 29:35Speaker 1: vibing with her, like you know, and kind of like
- 29:38Speaker 1: solidifying it between like the two of you, even though
- 29:41Speaker 1: you weren't supposed to do that, but like you kind
- 29:43Speaker 1: of were like, Okay, you're my big, Okay you're my little.
- 29:46Speaker 1: But it wasn't ever like a secret or like nobody
- 29:49Speaker 1: could have like played a game on you before the reveal.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like you have the speed dating closes like
- 29:57Speaker 2: probably a week before big Little, and then you have
- 30:01Speaker 2: that week to like do baskets and do decorading and
- 30:04Speaker 2: leave flowers.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, no, of course I was, but that same
- 30:09Speaker 1: thing with us, But if you vibed with like your
- 30:11Speaker 1: potential big, like you kind of like had a feeling like, Okay,
- 30:15Speaker 1: this girl's gonna be my big or this girl is
- 30:17Speaker 1: gonna be my little and hope that like you obviously
- 30:20Speaker 1: both choose each other as you're one, two and three
- 30:23Speaker 1: option obviously, but how your big was able to prank
- 30:30Speaker 1: you and like tell you to do all these things
- 30:34Speaker 1: before the reveal of the week leading up to it,
- 30:37Speaker 1: like we never had that. Yeah, and I don't even know,
- 30:41Speaker 1: like I feel like if that was happening to me.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I was like, I'm being pranked. Like I'm gonna go
- 30:46Speaker 1: ask someone in my sorority if this is fucking normal,
- 30:49Speaker 1: because it doesn't seem normal.
- 30:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 2: There's a lot of like secret societies and like secret
- 30:58Speaker 2: like club stuff too throughout Berkeley Greek life because it
- 31:02Speaker 2: is such like an old school and it's very it
- 31:04Speaker 2: was very traditional in the beginning, so it was kind
- 31:08Speaker 2: of a sense of like not necessarily that everyone was
- 31:13Speaker 2: doing the same stuff that I was doing, but like, oh,
- 31:16Speaker 2: this is definitely a sorority thing, and it's definitely real.
- 31:20Speaker 2: It's not like some random person texting me. But yeah,
- 31:27Speaker 2: I also just knew that you would do something like that.
- 31:29Speaker 2: She's a clown.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Well that's hilarious. But Page, thank you so much for
- 31:35Speaker 1: coming on to Dirty Rush and explaining your story. You're
- 31:38Speaker 1: definitely a trooper. Let me tell you that. Hi Kensi,
- 31:55Speaker 1: and welcome to Dirty Rush. I can't wait to hear
- 31:57Speaker 1: your blood story.
- 31:59Speaker 7: Thank you so much to be here.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Let's hear it.
- 32:03Speaker 8: Okay, So I feel like this one's pretty generic, pretty basic,
- 32:06Speaker 8: but I go to a school in the South and
- 32:09Speaker 8: SEC school, so Rush there is obviously way more intense
- 32:13Speaker 8: than other regular you know, college and basically everyone rushes
- 32:19Speaker 8: when they're eighteen, super new, super fresh. And I get
- 32:23Speaker 8: into a sorority that I heard that was a little
- 32:26Speaker 8: bit on the crazier side, which I didn't mind.
- 32:29Speaker 1: At all, like kind of the party sorority.
- 32:31Speaker 8: Yeah, and so I was excited because you know, I
- 32:34Speaker 8: liked doing that in high school, and I was excited
- 32:37Speaker 8: to continue it in college, but with a little bit
- 32:39Speaker 8: more older.
- 32:40Speaker 7: And more mature things going on around me.
- 32:42Speaker 8: And you know, the night of mid day, like the
- 32:46Speaker 8: Earth the night of midnight, and basically they have us
- 32:52Speaker 8: together and then we get separated into pairs. And so
- 32:54Speaker 8: I was with this random girl I've never even met before,
- 32:57Speaker 8: and we get assigned to this one girl in the
- 33:01Speaker 8: PC above us.
- 33:02Speaker 7: And basically their job is.
- 33:06Speaker 8: For us to get as drunk as they can get
- 33:07Speaker 8: us and then to let us go into the frats.
- 33:10Speaker 7: And so I was honestly down for and it sounded fun.
- 33:14Speaker 7: We all met up. We met up in this basement
- 33:16Speaker 7: that I had no idea existed on campus.
- 33:19Speaker 8: And there's probably about like one hundred and hundred fifty
- 33:22Speaker 8: girls in there, all chanting and yelling songs and drinking
- 33:26Speaker 8: a lot in a lot of beatboxes, because that's what
- 33:29Speaker 8: was sponsoring us secretly. But yeah, that was my first
- 33:33Speaker 8: time having a beatbox at eighteen. I never really drank that.
- 33:36Speaker 8: I don't think any of the other girls did either.
- 33:39Speaker 7: I don't even remember that night to this day. I
- 33:41Speaker 7: really try to picture and think back.
- 33:44Speaker 8: I'm a senior now and that was about three years ago,
- 33:47Speaker 8: but that was probably one of the first times I
- 33:50Speaker 8: blacked out. And I don't know how I got home,
- 33:53Speaker 8: but I know that they did have to take a
- 33:54Speaker 8: picture of us when we were in our bed.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Okay, so at least they kind of monitored you. They
- 33:58Speaker 1: kind of wanted to like see where you were and
- 34:01Speaker 1: not just really let you out and not put any
- 34:05Speaker 1: like not keep any tabs on you.
- 34:07Speaker 7: Yeah, not keep too many tabs on this.
- 34:09Speaker 8: They basically just released us out into the wild for
- 34:11Speaker 8: us to go introduce ourselves to the frat boys. Because
- 34:14Speaker 8: every single frat through that night, so there's probably about
- 34:17Speaker 8: twelve ten frats here, so we had to go to
- 34:20Speaker 8: all of them.
- 34:21Speaker 7: So it was crazy. That was the tap, That was
- 34:24Speaker 7: the whole pot, that was the whole point of it.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Yes, each one, Yes, I'm sure half of your half
- 34:30Speaker 1: your punchcast didn't even make it to half of them.
- 34:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I only went to three and then I ended
- 34:35Speaker 7: up in bed.
- 34:36Speaker 8: It was it was a surreal experience and it's funny
- 34:38Speaker 8: to think about to try to picture what happened, but
- 34:41Speaker 8: I really can't.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So I feel like that kind of reminds me of
- 34:43Speaker 1: my big, little, big little night. Like your bigs are
- 34:48Speaker 1: getting you super drunk as the little and then you
- 34:51Speaker 1: go to the frats, but your big is looking out
- 34:54Speaker 1: for you the whole time, like making sure that you're
- 34:56Speaker 1: getting into bed safely, that nothing happens to you. But
- 35:00Speaker 1: you said you didn't really remember the night, but there
- 35:04Speaker 1: were You said you went to three frats, So was
- 35:08Speaker 1: there somebody at least monitoring you to make sure that
- 35:10Speaker 1: you were okay and like kind of tell you what happened.
- 35:13Speaker 8: So when I initially got in, I had friends that
- 35:18Speaker 8: were going to ut prior, so I let them know
- 35:21Speaker 8: where I was going to be that night. So I
- 35:24Speaker 8: wasn't with the people that I had met in my sorority.
- 35:26Speaker 8: I was with my hometown friends at these frats, and
- 35:30Speaker 8: they were basically kind of the ones monitoring me.
- 35:32Speaker 1: And then so your hometown friends were looking out for you. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 1: that makes a lot more sense.
- 35:39Speaker 8: Yeah, but I somehow got in contact with the person
- 35:41Speaker 8: I was assigned to because that was their job, and
- 35:44Speaker 8: like if they couldn't get you know, the new PC
- 35:48Speaker 8: to their designated you know, places that they lived at,
- 35:50Speaker 8: they would get in trouble. But yeah, we somehow found
- 35:53Speaker 8: the girl that was supposed to be watching me and
- 35:56Speaker 8: it ended up being fine.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Wow, well I'm out of here, okay. Honestly, blessed to
- 36:01Speaker 1: your hometown friends. Hometown friends are always the real ones
- 36:03Speaker 1: that like make sure that you're really okay. I blessed
- 36:07Speaker 1: to them, and I'm happy that you got home safe. Yes,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but I feel like that's like weird that they would
- 36:14Speaker 1: have Like, but they probably did that, honestly, so that
- 36:17Speaker 1: you guys could have embarrassed yourselves in front of the frats,
- 36:19Speaker 1: like being so drunk like that for the first time.
- 36:23Speaker 1: But I'm surprised there wasn't a little more monitoring, just
- 36:26Speaker 1: like because if like if they if something God forbid
- 36:29Speaker 1: actually happened to one no, no, yeah, it would have
- 36:31Speaker 1: been screwed.
- 36:32Speaker 8: Yeah, there definitely needs to be a better system set
- 36:34Speaker 8: up with it.
- 36:35Speaker 7: But I mean, you know, it worked, a had a
- 36:37Speaker 7: good time, and then at.
- 36:39Speaker 2: The end of the day, no one got in trouble,
- 36:40Speaker 2: so that's what mattered.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah, no, for real and blessed to your hometown friends.
- 36:45Speaker 1: But Kenzie, thanks so much for telling us your story.
- 36:48Speaker 7: Of course, thank you so much for having me.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Okay, hey, Michelle and Grease, we have a big little
- 37:06Speaker 1: duo here with us on Dirty Rush and they are
- 37:09Speaker 1: going to be telling us their pledge story. Yeah, Hi,
- 37:14Speaker 1: thanks for having Usoe Michelle or who's the big, who's
- 37:17Speaker 1: the little?
- 37:18Speaker 7: Michelle is the big?
- 37:19Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, so yeah, she picked me up my freshman
- 37:22Speaker 6: year and we've been best friends ever since.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Oh I love that.
- 37:27Speaker 9: It was a quick transition when you know, you know
- 37:30Speaker 9: sometimes yes, you know you know which actually backsire. Michelle
- 37:35Speaker 9: hired on us and that's part of the story.
- 37:37Speaker 2: M hm.
- 37:38Speaker 6: And so yeah, when you get your bid right, and
- 37:41Speaker 6: I remember talking to Michelle all during rush and stuff,
- 37:43Speaker 6: and then on mid day your match with like a
- 37:46Speaker 6: bid day buddy, and so they kind of take you
- 37:48Speaker 6: to the whole like post mid day event and like
- 37:51Speaker 6: whatever the sorority had planned. And so we actually went
- 37:54Speaker 6: rollerblading was our bid day event, which was just like
- 37:57Speaker 6: really bonding to say the least, right, and then yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 6: we ended up going to like all the bid day
- 38:04Speaker 6: parties that weekend and like going to everything together. And
- 38:07Speaker 6: then so we kind of knew probably from like that
- 38:10Speaker 6: weekend that we were going to be big and little
- 38:13Speaker 6: and then shelf, you want to take it over.
- 38:14Speaker 1: And so this is kind of like your speed dating
- 38:16Speaker 1: getting to know each other.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Right.
- 38:18Speaker 9: So, Okay, the way our sorority does it, which is
- 38:21Speaker 9: probably similar across the board at our school, is you
- 38:24Speaker 9: get a bid day buddy for the actual bid day,
- 38:27Speaker 9: but then once that weekend passes, you're paired with a
- 38:32Speaker 9: new member as an older member.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Oh yes, okay, this is actually I think similar to
- 38:38Speaker 1: how I did it. Okay, I forgot the whole bid
- 38:41Speaker 1: day boddy thing.
- 38:42Speaker 9: Yes, And so they make it a big thing that
- 38:47Speaker 9: like there is no favoritism.
- 38:49Speaker 7: It's honestly great.
- 38:50Speaker 9: Like I look back on it as one of the
- 38:52Speaker 9: most fun times of college. I was so spoiled. I
- 38:55Speaker 9: was being taken out to dinner.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and especially as a freshman, you're like, okay,
- 39:00Speaker 1: I get a free meal, and if you know, and
- 39:03Speaker 1: especially if a lot of older sisters wanted to go
- 39:07Speaker 1: on dates with you. There would be times where you're like,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you had your breakfast, lunch, and dinner paid for. It
- 39:12Speaker 1: was amazing.
- 39:14Speaker 9: And then the way like we do it too is
- 39:16Speaker 9: ubers are paid for to parties, like you don't leave
- 39:19Speaker 9: without your We call it a beta. Everyone has a
- 39:24Speaker 9: different name. But it is like princess treatment to the max,
- 39:28Speaker 9: which is such a funny like contrast from the way
- 39:32Speaker 9: that fraternities do it, because oh yeah, they're over here
- 39:36Speaker 9: getting like haste and we're getting spoiled.
- 39:38Speaker 5: M hmm.
- 39:39Speaker 6: I think I see the most money my entire college
- 39:42Speaker 6: experience that like four weeks of whatever that big little
- 39:45Speaker 6: process was.
- 39:46Speaker 9: So it is like painful, but anyways, you get to select.
- 39:50Speaker 9: It's like mutual selection every time. So you get to
- 39:53Speaker 9: select who you want to be prepaired with from the
- 39:58Speaker 9: beginning of the week, and then the younger member also pairs,
- 40:01Speaker 9: and then we have someone that like facilitates that pairing
- 40:04Speaker 9: and that's.
- 40:04Speaker 7: Who you're matched with each week.
- 40:06Speaker 9: And so, like Grace said, I knew that we were
- 40:11Speaker 9: probably gonna end up together in the end, so I
- 40:13Speaker 9: actually took the approach of like I'm going to pick
- 40:16Speaker 9: other new members in my sorority to get to know
- 40:18Speaker 9: everybody else, because I'm only going to be hanging out
- 40:21Speaker 9: with Grace for like the majority of the time after
- 40:24Speaker 9: this small period is over, and so I'm like over
- 40:26Speaker 9: here selecting other girls. I actually tricked her and told
- 40:30Speaker 9: her that I didn't pick her up as my little,
- 40:35Speaker 9: which is another story. But after the reveal, this was
- 40:40Speaker 9: a few weeks after, and I get called into our
- 40:44Speaker 9: sororities MCC, which is like standards, Yeah, and I was
- 40:50Speaker 9: so confused. I hadn't done anything wrong to my knowledge,
- 40:55Speaker 9: and I guess someone was like out to get me
- 40:57Speaker 9: and said that I was favoring Grace and like claimed
- 41:01Speaker 9: her so that nobody else in the chapter could have
- 41:05Speaker 9: her as her little. And I did post a picture
- 41:08Speaker 9: with her on mid day. Wait, that's normal, It's like
- 41:12Speaker 9: is that not allowed?
- 41:13Speaker 1: No, That's so normal though, because also during rush process,
- 41:16Speaker 1: if you vibe with somebody and then obviously they come
- 41:19Speaker 1: into your sorority, you're like yay, like I have my
- 41:23Speaker 1: potential new member that I wanted in my sorority now.
- 41:26Speaker 9: Right, And even the girls in Standards were like laughing.
- 41:30Speaker 9: But the way we do it is you have to
- 41:31Speaker 9: address anything any type of plane that is sent in.
- 41:35Speaker 1: So it was all just.
- 41:36Speaker 9: Kind of ridiculous. But it's such a funny testament to
- 41:40Speaker 9: like the rules of sorority. Like everything is about these
- 41:44Speaker 9: strict rules that we have to follow, and it is
- 41:47Speaker 9: just not real life.
- 41:48Speaker 1: No, it's like this book that we have to follow.
- 41:51Speaker 1: And then when you get into the real world after
- 41:54Speaker 1: college and realize that none of this crap matters, it's funny, right,
- 42:00Speaker 1: I mean, even when you're like five minutes until I mean,
- 42:02Speaker 1: I would say after your freshman year, you know that
- 42:07Speaker 1: none of this really matters. But it's just kind of
- 42:10Speaker 1: like a part of Greek life and a part of
- 42:12Speaker 1: the traditions and kind of how things work.
- 42:16Speaker 9: No, it totally is. There's also like a lot of
- 42:19Speaker 9: tension during that time. I feel like, because every new
- 42:22Speaker 9: member that just like went through recruitment is like now
- 42:26Speaker 9: comparing like, oh, well, this sorority does this to their
- 42:29Speaker 9: new members, or this person does this.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But there's a.
- 42:33Speaker 9: Sorority at our school that we tend to have tensions with.
- 42:38Speaker 9: But we had a brat party probably at our school
- 42:43Speaker 9: that hosts the most things, is the most lively, was
- 42:47Speaker 9: our favorite to go to always, and it was pretty
- 42:50Speaker 9: much just us in this other sorority, and I'm there,
- 42:54Speaker 9: I'm having a great time with Grace. We leave, everything's fine.
- 42:58Speaker 9: I'm sitting on the couch after with my guy friends
- 43:01Speaker 9: and they're like, look at this video. It's so funny.
- 43:04Speaker 9: They proceed to show me a video of one of
- 43:07Speaker 9: them peeing on the composite of this other sorority. They
- 43:13Speaker 9: grabbed the frame, put it in the toilet, and peede
- 43:15Speaker 9: on it. The next morning, I waked up to a
- 43:21Speaker 9: paragraph in our group chat with this other sorority, because
- 43:24Speaker 9: we're all pretty close with each other.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Thinking that, like, you guys set this up.
- 43:28Speaker 9: Yes, so one of my guy friends actually blamed the
- 43:31Speaker 9: entire thing on us, and I just remember thinking, like,
- 43:36Speaker 9: right as things were starting to get good, like we
- 43:38Speaker 9: were all getting along, so well, this happens.
- 43:42Speaker 1: But honestly, the frats probably did it on purpose. Michelle
- 43:45Speaker 1: and Grace, thank you guys so much for coming on
- 43:47Speaker 1: to Dirty Rash and telling me your crazy cirrity life
- 43:50Speaker 1: stories and your pledge stories. But I'm happy that you
- 43:53Speaker 1: guys came out on top and found your way to
- 43:56Speaker 1: each other. Yeah, but thanks for going on Dirty Rush
- 44:02Speaker 1: a bye bye. Thanks so much, to all the girls
- 44:06Speaker 1: for sharing their crazy Pledge stories from all ages, sororities,
