- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello. My name's Martin from Confide. We are an alternative
- 0:03Speaker 1: rock band from the UK. Very eclectic kind of sound,
- 0:06Speaker 1: all everything from metal to jazz and just straight up
- 0:10Speaker 1: all rock and indie and funk and hip hop and
- 0:14Speaker 1: sing a songwrite, all kinds of stuff all blended into
- 0:17Speaker 1: this mixing pot. We've got an EP coming up this Saturday,
- 0:21Speaker 1: this Friday story called a Coward's Stitches, which is all
- 0:25Speaker 1: about my mental health crisis from two years ago.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Very nice man, Thanks for joining us today, Martin.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It's a pleasure to be here. Chris, thank you for
- 0:33Speaker 1: having me. Always so good to see your face and
- 0:35Speaker 1: to chat with you.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Likewise, my friend.
- 0:37Speaker 3: So, as you mentioned, Confired return with your new EP
- 0:40Speaker 3: at coward Stitches this Friday, February seventh.
- 0:43Speaker 2: So how you feel about it.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm very excited, very very excited about it. It's a
- 0:50Speaker 1: little It's definitely the most out of their material I've
- 0:53Speaker 1: done so far, and I think that's reflective of what
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm singing about. Quite a lot of the previous Confined
- 0:58Speaker 1: Materialists had a bit of a political spin on it.
- 1:00Speaker 1: These songs are a lot more personal and I'm kind
- 1:03Speaker 1: of bearing my soul to the world. A little bit.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And the initial song that we've put out already on
- 1:08Speaker 1: YouTube has an amazing response so far, so I'm very
- 1:10Speaker 1: excited to see people think of the whole release.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah, you mentioned that your music does not mean center
- 1:15Speaker 3: around political sort of political companions, but this one is
- 1:19Speaker 3: personal mine, So why why now decide to do something
- 1:22Speaker 3: personal like it?
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's a bit steps, I guess I've not completely shied
- 1:28Speaker 1: away from personal topics, like you know, I write. You know,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I tend to write about what I feel very strongly about,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and very often things happening in the world and in
- 1:37Speaker 1: you know, my country or wherever else, saw in communities
- 1:39Speaker 1: and stuff, you know, is incredibly emotive and important to
- 1:42Speaker 1: me and to the people who affect me, people who
- 1:45Speaker 1: and affects people who I care about rather so obviously
- 1:48Speaker 1: end up writing about those. But about two years ago
- 1:50Speaker 1: I went through some and you know, some real sort
- 1:53Speaker 1: of personal trauma and had to go through a lot
- 1:56Speaker 1: of help for that, and it was important my sort
- 1:58Speaker 1: of and an instead that was the thing that was
- 2:01Speaker 1: most pulling on me to write about, and it was
- 2:04Speaker 1: also the short version is there was a relationship breakdown
- 2:09Speaker 1: and that was kind of like the last crack in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the dam, as it were, of everything else that was
- 2:14Speaker 1: wrong with me that I had been sort of putting
- 2:17Speaker 1: off and ignoring and pretending wasn't there, and that was
- 2:21Speaker 1: obviously a contributing me repressing these things was obviously a
- 2:23Speaker 1: contributing factor to the collapse of the relationship in the
- 2:26Speaker 1: first place, and poris breakup ending up continuing to ignoring
- 2:30Speaker 1: it and then you know, just eventually having to seek
- 2:32Speaker 1: help like in counseling and therapy and stuff. And the title, well,
- 2:37Speaker 1: the sort of big single we put out, which is only,
- 2:39Speaker 1: which is an acoustic song like nine a minute acoustic songs,
- 2:44Speaker 1: is it's called Happy New Year because one of the
- 2:47Speaker 1: big sort of horrible realizations I had about myself that
- 2:49Speaker 1: I had was just ignoring everything and just pretending everything
- 2:52Speaker 1: because that was okay when it wasn't. What happened on
- 2:54Speaker 1: New Year's Eve going into twenty twenty three, Wow, I
- 2:59Speaker 1: ran back into my ex partner and it was so clear,
- 3:02Speaker 1: like it was this massive truth bomb that you know,
- 3:05Speaker 1: so much of what I've been telling myself have been
- 3:07Speaker 1: a total lie. And I just woke up on the
- 3:09Speaker 1: first of January just absolutely hating myself, Like what a
- 3:11Speaker 1: way to start a new year like and so, Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 1: it was just something really really important to write about
- 3:19Speaker 1: in terms of healing myself and taking accountability and telling
- 3:24Speaker 1: a story that I think some people will relate to.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I think if people listen to this and realize that
- 3:30Speaker 1: they're not alone and feeling that way and like being
- 3:32Speaker 1: at war with themselves, it's sort of reminded that it's
- 3:38Speaker 1: not always going to be like that. You know, you're
- 3:40Speaker 1: not alone and it can get better.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Did you find it was easier or harder to write
- 3:47Speaker 3: the actual album because it was so personal? Like I'd
- 3:50Speaker 3: like to say everything has been personally, but this one
- 3:52Speaker 3: that's in the heartstrings personal?
- 3:53Speaker 2: I did was it? Was it easier or harder?
- 3:57Speaker 1: The writing process I think was about the same, to
- 4:00Speaker 1: be honest. It was at the end of the day,
- 4:04Speaker 1: it still comes from a place of emotion, and you
- 4:06Speaker 1: know it struct you know, places things that I feel
- 4:09Speaker 1: very strongly about. Just this time it happens to affect
- 4:11Speaker 1: me in my personal life. I think the process of
- 4:13Speaker 1: recording writing was easier. I was certainly a lot more
- 4:17Speaker 1: free form this time, even though Confies music is a
- 4:19Speaker 1: bit all over the place anyway, there's always. I always
- 4:22Speaker 1: like to think there's strong hooks and stuff, and it's
- 4:24Speaker 1: still quite accessible when it needs to be. This time,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I kind of threw the rule book out a little
- 4:28Speaker 1: bit a coward stitches the title track. It kind of
- 4:32Speaker 1: was intended to sound like what a mental health crisis
- 4:35Speaker 1: feels like. A sweat kind of hops from one start
- 4:37Speaker 1: to another so rapidly, and you know, because when you're
- 4:42Speaker 1: having those kinds of episodes as it, where it feels
- 4:44Speaker 1: like you can ever really cling on to a single
- 4:47Speaker 1: thought for very long. But what I will say is
- 4:50Speaker 1: that performing the songs is a lot more difficult. It's
- 4:54Speaker 1: especially Happy New Year that main song at the end.
- 4:58Speaker 1: In order for it to be authentic, have to reach
- 5:01Speaker 1: into that dark place that I was in two years ago,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and it can be really, really tough to get through.
- 5:08Speaker 1: There's a point towards the end of the song where
- 5:12Speaker 1: content warning I briefly talk about the idea of not
- 5:16Speaker 1: being any here anymore, and it's very, very tough to
- 5:20Speaker 1: get through that part, and quite often I have to
- 5:22Speaker 1: go away for a minute after I've finished the set,
- 5:25Speaker 1: just to have a second to myself. But yeah, that's
- 5:29Speaker 1: the main difference I think is it's a lot more
- 5:31Speaker 1: difficult to perform emotionally.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I know, why stop at just three songs? Mate?
- 5:38Speaker 3: I know what you like, and that would have been
- 5:39Speaker 3: the hardest part for you, just stop at three.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Well. It's interesting because I've been putting out ever since
- 5:46Speaker 1: I sort of revived CONFI during the lockdowns way back
- 5:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty. It's just been constant single releases, plus
- 5:53Speaker 1: a few bonus bits on bank amp for people who
- 5:55Speaker 1: want more. And this is the first official release with
- 5:58Speaker 1: multiple songs on it in age, And it's just because
- 6:01Speaker 1: singles are often a more efficient way of building fan bases.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And initially this was just gonna be that acoustics song
- 6:08Speaker 1: on its own, Happy New Year, but then I realized
- 6:12Speaker 1: that I can't. That's not going to form part of
- 6:14Speaker 1: the set, is it? When I play with the band,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I can't tell the whole band to go away while
- 6:18Speaker 1: I sit there for nine minutes on my own. I mean,
- 6:20Speaker 1: when we do the launch this Saturday, I am going
- 6:22Speaker 1: to play it on my own. But that's because we
- 6:23Speaker 1: are launching the EP and it's probably the only time
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'm going to do it unless we end up doing
- 6:27Speaker 1: these like great big shows like you know there's go
- 6:29Speaker 1: on for an hour. But initially it was just gonna
- 6:32Speaker 1: be that song. And so when I thought about, how
- 6:33Speaker 1: can I make this into something the band can play,
- 6:36Speaker 1: because it's very much hinged on the fact, you know,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's a very unconventional song. There's no verse, there's no chorus.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It's like it's just a stream of consciousness for nine
- 6:44Speaker 1: minutes with this like tapature of acoustic guitar. It was like,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and I saw, what I did is I took elements
- 6:49Speaker 1: from Happy New Year, like musical and lyrical elements, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: then built a full band song that's only four and
- 6:55Speaker 1: a half minutes, and that's what Coward Stitches is. Okay,
- 6:58Speaker 1: So and then and then it was just going to
- 7:01Speaker 1: be those two songs, and then I felt they need
- 7:03Speaker 1: to write the middle song, once Broken, which is the
- 7:05Speaker 1: more reflective, less complicated, and more easier to digest song
- 7:09Speaker 1: that is more a song about accountability and gratitude. Okay,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, this is the story and it may
- 7:15Speaker 1: just be an EP, but it is kind of a
- 7:16Speaker 1: concept EP that makes sense. Idea if and I like
- 7:23Speaker 1: lyrical and musical ideas repeat throughout like come back in
- 7:25Speaker 1: different parts. Of it throughout the three songs. So and
- 7:29Speaker 1: I suppose i'd say, I said, the third song is
- 7:32Speaker 1: eight and a half nine minutes songs.
- 7:33Speaker 2: So yeah, oh see, there is only three songs on it. Man,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I want to and they asked such important songs.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I want to run through them individually so you can
- 7:43Speaker 3: explain them a bit more, and and why you're write it,
- 7:45Speaker 3: I guess, and how they help you.
- 7:47Speaker 2: So the first one is the title track at Coward Stitches.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so this, as I mentioned, this is an incredibly
- 7:55Speaker 1: like frenetic, chaotic song and it was intended that way.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I remember when I showed our drummer Dan the song,
- 8:01Speaker 1: he was like, Martin, why, But that was a deliberate choice,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Like it means it is quite technically difficult to perform,
- 8:09Speaker 1: but it's meant to describe what being in mental health
- 8:13Speaker 1: crisis actually feels like. We have a lot of singers,
- 8:17Speaker 1: songwriters and musicians and bands singing about the mental health crisis,
- 8:20Speaker 1: obviously incredibly important, but how often does it actually sound
- 8:24Speaker 1: like what it's like to be in that moment? So
- 8:27Speaker 1: I drew a lot from the Dyllinger escape plan with
- 8:29Speaker 1: this song. Who were like lots of discordant, like frenetic
- 8:34Speaker 1: like instrumentals and like slightly screamy vocals here, but then
- 8:37Speaker 1: there's still like big melodic hooks. There's like there's a
- 8:40Speaker 1: basically there's a really discordant evil part of Happy New
- 8:43Speaker 1: Year that I took out of that and made into
- 8:45Speaker 1: like this math rock kind of riff for this song.
- 8:48Speaker 1: There's like big drum, it's quite a lot of it's
- 8:51Speaker 1: quite dramatic as well. My friend it was like it
- 8:54Speaker 1: doesn't escape Plan were Queen's backing band. I was like,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'll take that.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I've got a mental image in that.
- 9:01Speaker 1: It wasn't very good, but it's got confidees first blast
- 9:07Speaker 1: beats in it as well, Like the Car of course
- 9:09Speaker 1: has got this like blast beat trembory picking thing, like
- 9:12Speaker 1: this kind of cradle of filth was vibe, but it's
- 9:13Speaker 1: got clean vocals over it. There's a big opath influence
- 9:17Speaker 1: with the discord. It's yeah, it's basically me talking about
- 9:20Speaker 1: the kind of self rationalizations I would tell to myself
- 9:24Speaker 1: to pretend that everything was okay when it absolutely wasn't.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Like the big hook in the song is called closure
- 9:29Speaker 1: is not real. Closure isn't real, It doesn't exist. I
- 9:31Speaker 1: don't need closure. I don't need closure. I could just
- 9:33Speaker 1: move on with my life and not worry about anything.
- 9:35Speaker 1: When actually that's absolutely not true, and you know, your
- 9:39Speaker 1: your feelings, in your your actions don't exist in isolation
- 9:42Speaker 1: and the affect other people and the people who get
- 9:44Speaker 1: close to you, and it's all about those kinds of
- 9:47Speaker 1: lies we tell ourselves, and it's like it's one of
- 9:50Speaker 1: the big Another big lie I told myself was like, okay,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'm you know, if there was anything left to talk about,
- 9:57Speaker 1: then we wouldn't be in this situation. So let's just
- 9:59Speaker 1: not talk all about anything, just like yeah, but yeah,
- 10:02Speaker 1: it's very intense, very very it doesn't really let up,
- 10:07Speaker 1: it ever really resolves, and yeah, it's one of those
- 10:11Speaker 1: ones that's definitely for the mosh pit for sure.
- 10:15Speaker 2: All Right. The second one is once Broken.
- 10:19Speaker 1: So it's almost meant to be the total opposite to
- 10:22Speaker 1: Coward Stitches. Whereas that it's got lots and lots of
- 10:25Speaker 1: ideas and it's very frenetic all over the place. It
- 10:27Speaker 1: aggressive and discordant and horrible. Once Broken is much simpler.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Most of it's only like three chords, and it's meant
- 10:36Speaker 1: to be this more careful considered track. I like to
- 10:40Speaker 1: think it's like got a nice balance of sort of quiet,
- 10:44Speaker 1: reflective contemplation and then these big like anthemic, this big
- 10:48Speaker 1: anthemic chorus, And it's meant to be about the aftermath
- 10:52Speaker 1: after you've come through the other side and see things
- 10:55Speaker 1: how they really are and you've made peace with yourself
- 10:58Speaker 1: and the idea of what you've done wrong, and it's
- 11:00Speaker 1: about seeking a say, sort of restitution and like amen's
- 11:06Speaker 1: for what you've done wrong and acknowledging what you've done
- 11:10Speaker 1: and being grateful for that person still being in your life.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Like my ex girlfriend and I are are friends again
- 11:16Speaker 1: now and I'm one of my biggest sort of panics
- 11:21Speaker 1: was the idea that I would never get to see
- 11:24Speaker 1: or hear from her ever again after everything that happened,
- 11:27Speaker 1: And the fact that we can reconcile now means the
- 11:31Speaker 1: world to me. And that's what this song is kind
- 11:33Speaker 1: of about, and it's I think it's a lot of
- 11:36Speaker 1: people are so far from people who have heard it.
- 11:38Speaker 1: People have been able to like, listen to the album
- 11:41Speaker 1: in advance on band camp if they like, if they
- 11:43Speaker 1: pay out a little bit or or delight the physical
- 11:46Speaker 1: release and that's so far, I think has been people's
- 11:48Speaker 1: favorite so far. I think because it is more accessible
- 11:50Speaker 1: and because it's got I think it's quite rare for
- 11:54Speaker 1: people to not that rare, but like maybe less common
- 11:58Speaker 1: for people to talk so explicitly in those terms about
- 12:02Speaker 1: sort of accountability for past ills.
- 12:04Speaker 3: If that makes sense, Okay, then we'll move on into
- 12:07Speaker 3: the third and final song, which is Happy in New
- 12:09Speaker 3: Year with exers everywhere throughout where the veil should be.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yes exactly. And this was the this was the first
- 12:18Speaker 1: song I wrote, and it's like not I say, it's
- 12:20Speaker 1: this nine minute acoustic song and it's meant to again.
- 12:26Speaker 1: It kind of describes a mental health crisis, specifically in
- 12:29Speaker 1: the terms of the conversations you have with yourself. My
- 12:32Speaker 1: particular issue was that I was starting to find that
- 12:35Speaker 1: as I became aware of everything that was wrong and
- 12:38Speaker 1: finally realized that everything was not okay and that I
- 12:41Speaker 1: was at fault and and say that final crack in
- 12:45Speaker 1: the dam holding back everything that I was denying with
- 12:48Speaker 1: the relationship breakdown came like absolutely, you know, crashing through
- 12:55Speaker 1: that sort of we've kind of got two voices, we've
- 12:57Speaker 1: kind of got our main self. And then we've got
- 12:58Speaker 1: that critical voice always, like it's basically can be the
- 13:01Speaker 1: voice of our conscience. Right, that's important, Right, But if
- 13:03Speaker 1: you ignore it for too long, when it finally breaks through,
- 13:06Speaker 1: it's gonna make you feel fucking part of my French
- 13:08Speaker 1: one sent to me to high and it's about that voice.
- 13:14Speaker 1: It's basically those two the conversations between those two sides
- 13:17Speaker 1: of me kind of fighting by one side of me
- 13:19Speaker 1: going oh my god, like why you give me such
- 13:20Speaker 1: a hard time? This is so difficult, Like I'm suffering
- 13:23Speaker 1: to the other guy going sure, fault, it's your fault.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Here's what you did wrong? Like why do you think everything?
- 13:29Speaker 1: How can you think of it? And it's heavily inspired
- 13:32Speaker 1: by a song called high Rent by the artist Ren
- 13:35Speaker 1: from Brighton and UK. It was a bit of a
- 13:37Speaker 1: viral hit. It's also a nine minute acoustic song and
- 13:41Speaker 1: it it's had like forty to fifty million views on YouTube.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Now something silly and like when I saw that a
- 13:46Speaker 1: piece of art like that, like a ten minute song
- 13:49Speaker 1: had gone viral and it's an incredibly powerful piece of work,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and it's it's the same concept. Basically I took the
- 13:55Speaker 1: same concept that he'd done and I even acknowledge him
- 13:57Speaker 1: in the song like My My, My bad Side, he
- 14:02Speaker 1: literally sayss just like Ren called. He says he wants
- 14:05Speaker 1: his song back. You're not original, you're not creative, You
- 14:07Speaker 1: just just fu Yeah. And the reason the exit all
- 14:14Speaker 1: the vowels are replaced with xes is because in twenty
- 14:22Speaker 1: twenty three, I was still obviously dealing with the fallout
- 14:24Speaker 1: of the breakup of the relationship, but then I also
- 14:26Speaker 1: experienced another heartbreak. I experienced multiple bereavements as well, and
- 14:32Speaker 1: when I was on tour with Chop Siey, I lost
- 14:34Speaker 1: my voice. It was it was absolutely all of them.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It was may mate when you're going through emotional traum
- 14:43Speaker 1: like multiple when you're grieving for multiple things at once
- 14:47Speaker 1: and you still have a bad relationship with yourself, and
- 14:51Speaker 1: then not being able to sing, like that's literally my
- 14:53Speaker 1: biggest joy that I reached to. And also part of
- 14:57Speaker 1: it was my own fault again, like it was like
- 15:00Speaker 1: I got ill. I didn't look after myself on tour
- 15:03Speaker 1: and I ended up just absolutely torpedo on my voice
- 15:05Speaker 1: and we had to cancel the show and the rest
- 15:07Speaker 1: of the tour was absolute torture to get through, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: like the first European short tour that we did. We
- 15:13Speaker 1: had to get a stad and singer for it, and
- 15:15Speaker 1: it was just it was the worst mate. So taking
- 15:19Speaker 1: the vowels out of Happy New Year is meant to
- 15:21Speaker 1: be reflective of the fact that without vowels, words don't exist, right.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You can't actually speak without vowels, and so I wasn't
- 15:29Speaker 1: able to use my voice. So if I put excess
- 15:31Speaker 1: where the vowels are, I can't. You can't pronounce them ha.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Plus you wouldn't be down to yell Andre when he
- 15:37Speaker 3: gave me this ship, so that would be the worst part.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Like joy Z was obviously frustrated with the situation. It's
- 15:49Speaker 1: a long story and I won't go into it too much,
- 15:50Speaker 1: but he has been incredibly supportive and reasonable throughout this
- 15:55Speaker 1: whole ordeal, and I won't go too much detail. I
- 16:00Speaker 1: haven't taking a break from Chop Suey this year. I
- 16:02Speaker 1: don't know if you've seen. We are doing an amazing tour.
- 16:05Speaker 1: We've just started a tribute to slip Not as well. Yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 1: but this year I've taken some time out, like I
- 16:12Speaker 1: really need to give myself a break from it. Like
- 16:14Speaker 1: the I've been doing it for a decade, ten years
- 16:18Speaker 1: of Chop Cuy, and I feel like if anyone's n
- 16:20Speaker 1: to break, it's me, And I think I need to
- 16:24Speaker 1: go back to the system of a down material and
- 16:28Speaker 1: you know, just give my mental health a chance and
- 16:32Speaker 1: my voice to break from it all. And it's just
- 16:34Speaker 1: been really nice to concentrate on the original music as
- 16:38Speaker 1: well and have more time for my relationships and stuff.
- 16:40Speaker 1: That's something else that puts strain on my last relationship
- 16:42Speaker 1: was being away on tour with Chop Sewey all the time,
- 16:44Speaker 1: like it was for sure. So yeah, but I hope
- 16:49Speaker 1: that explains that a little better.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Sort of you've touched up before and you went through
- 16:54Speaker 3: before all the all the stars and music he is,
- 16:57Speaker 3: but like you've got there's rock, there's extreme metal, blast feeds,
- 17:00Speaker 3: there's acoustic, there's hip hop, there's for men guitar there
- 17:04Speaker 3: and parts with the groove, Like how the hell do
- 17:06Speaker 3: you get the balance right in the creative.
- 17:08Speaker 2: And recording process, Like it'll be a nightmare.
- 17:11Speaker 1: And good question.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I'd like.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I think, as I mentioned before, I think if the
- 17:21Speaker 1: as I say, the original plan was just to have
- 17:23Speaker 1: happy New Year and the coward stitches, I think it
- 17:27Speaker 1: was just gonna be a double a side just those
- 17:29Speaker 1: two songs, and I think maybe that might have been
- 17:32Speaker 1: a bit too much, like just too intense. I think
- 17:35Speaker 1: having Once Broken in the middle is that really nice
- 17:37Speaker 1: palette cleanser, because it is, like it was quite deliberately
- 17:41Speaker 1: written as the opposite to A Coward Stitches, which has
- 17:44Speaker 1: so many ideas all going on. It's like changes all
- 17:46Speaker 1: the time. It's really it's just it. I'm not gonna
- 17:49Speaker 1: I'm not gonna shy away from it. It's difficult to
- 17:51Speaker 1: listen to you, like, and that's the point. It's not
- 17:54Speaker 1: meant to be like, oh this isn't this I'll put
- 17:56Speaker 1: it on A Coward Stitches just for an easy listen. No,
- 17:58Speaker 1: not to all me. It's meant it's meant to make
- 18:00Speaker 1: you uncomfortable because I'm singing about something really like emotionally difficult.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I've done that quite a lot with a lot of
- 18:09Speaker 1: things I've sung about in the past. I'm like, I'm
- 18:10Speaker 1: not here to make people feel comfortable. It's meant to
- 18:12Speaker 1: be like, make people reflect on themselves and on the
- 18:15Speaker 1: world and if it But in any case, so Once
- 18:18Speaker 1: Broken was quite deliberately written to be that, like Calm
- 18:23Speaker 1: after the storm. That reflective much simpler track. And I
- 18:28Speaker 1: think one thing that does help with these like crazy
- 18:31Speaker 1: genre changes, especially in that title track, is that a
- 18:33Speaker 1: lot of it, a lot of the melodies and core
- 18:36Speaker 1: progressions and how they relate to each other. I wrote
- 18:38Speaker 1: a lot of that just with me and an acoustic
- 18:40Speaker 1: guitar to start with. Yeah, So even though it's got
- 18:44Speaker 1: all these blast beats and stuff and like crazy genre changes,
- 18:47Speaker 1: a lot of it was just written with me and
- 18:48Speaker 1: an acoustic guitar, and then the riffs and stuff were
- 18:51Speaker 1: layered on top afterwards. So I think that's how I'm
- 18:56Speaker 1: able to make at least attempt at least I like
- 18:58Speaker 1: to think that you and if I write a really
- 19:00Speaker 1: chaotic and out there song like a coward stitches, it
- 19:03Speaker 1: still has a level of cohesiveness when it comes to
- 19:05Speaker 1: like melodies and things that people can sing, because ultimately
- 19:09Speaker 1: the vocal melodies and the hooks are what come first.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Are you're going to be releasing the lyrics notes so
- 19:16Speaker 3: people sort of can can digest it while they're listening
- 19:19Speaker 3: to it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yes, so my distributor tends to upload my lyrics onto
- 19:26Speaker 1: the various lyrics sites. But you the best place to
- 19:28Speaker 1: go for that, it's going to be on bands camp.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So band Camp, I've got all the lyrics all written
- 19:37Speaker 1: out on there on the bank, on the confined bank
- 19:38Speaker 1: camp so you can read through. I wanted to put
- 19:42Speaker 1: the Happy New Year lyrics in the YouTube description, but
- 19:45Speaker 1: there's too many lyrics.
- 19:46Speaker 2: It broke.
- 19:48Speaker 1: It broke the character account on the description box for
- 19:51Speaker 1: for YouTube, so that was a bit annoying. But yes,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and also that you know, obviously obviously it is available
- 19:58Speaker 1: on band camp now, and on band camp there are
- 20:02Speaker 1: three extra bonus tracks as well, like so there's like
- 20:06Speaker 1: live versions of Scalpel which was the last single that
- 20:08Speaker 1: you and I spoke about, Don't Lie Awake, which is
- 20:11Speaker 1: the real the like relaunch single, and then an acoustic
- 20:14Speaker 1: version of man Down. So like, if people actually pay
- 20:17Speaker 1: me money on band camp for the out for the EP,
- 20:19Speaker 1: they get these three extra tracks also if they've got
- 20:23Speaker 1: same goes if they actually ordered the seed. So that's
- 20:27Speaker 1: why I was like sending people to band camp because
- 20:29Speaker 1: if like, you get more stuff there and like, but
- 20:32Speaker 1: it hits all the actual streaming services this Friday, and
- 20:36Speaker 1: it's just the three main songs and obviously the lyrics
- 20:38Speaker 1: will be on the spot Like on Spotify, you know,
- 20:40Speaker 1: you can have the lyrics and it plays through as
- 20:42Speaker 1: the song is going, so they'll be on there too.
- 20:45Speaker 2: And have you got any shows coming up to launch it?
- 20:50Speaker 1: Yes, So this Saturday we are launching, so that the
- 20:54Speaker 1: EP HiT's on Friday. We have a launch show on
- 20:56Speaker 1: Saturday night in Nottingham upstairs at the Angel Career little
- 21:00Speaker 1: venue called the Chapel where we will be launching the EP.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I will play all three songs from it again probably
- 21:07Speaker 1: the only time that I'm going to play Happy New
- 21:08Speaker 1: Year at Confide show and then along with a couple
- 21:12Speaker 1: of other songs that people will already know, and that
- 21:15Speaker 1: we're being supported by the Mechanist, Contemno and Systems Fail.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I've literally I'm actually gonna make an announcement some of
- 21:21Speaker 1: the other shows who got booked in today. So we're
- 21:24Speaker 1: also playing Leicester on Friday next week on Valentine's Day
- 21:30Speaker 1: at the Metal Monocle. We have First of March in
- 21:32Speaker 1: Wellingborough at the Old England. We're also booked in for
- 21:38Speaker 1: the Bear Cave in Bornmouth on the seventh of June
- 21:41Speaker 1: and then I just wait on confirmation for twenty ninth
- 21:44Speaker 1: of August in Chelmsford at Radio City Social and then
- 21:47Speaker 1: if with any luck, we should be hopefully sorting a
- 21:52Speaker 1: show in London in May. But I can't say much
- 21:55Speaker 1: more about that one yet, but it should be toutch
- 21:58Speaker 1: would a really killer if anybody I really want to
- 22:01Speaker 1: go in all in with confided, There's can be loads
- 22:02Speaker 1: more shows still announced. I've I've got quite a few
- 22:04Speaker 1: fingers in the pie, so they still be around my
- 22:09Speaker 1: fingers in many pies.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Not so.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I've been working on and trying to get us playing
- 22:15Speaker 1: a lot of shows this year. It'll be nice, you know.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I would love to get out to Europe, but you know,
- 22:19Speaker 1: let's let's you know one thing before you know, one
- 22:23Speaker 1: thing at a time, I think. But yes, hopefully also
- 22:27Speaker 1: released some more new music this year as well, since
- 22:29Speaker 1: I'm not participed quite so thin fantastic man.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Thanks very much for your time, and I had thanks
- 22:33Speaker 3: for your your honesty and openness with that too. Looked
- 22:36Speaker 3: like it couldn't have been too easy at times. But
- 22:38Speaker 3: like Howard Stitches is out on Pembruy the seventh, it's
- 22:41Speaker 3: a proliety. Good listen mate, Like it's sort of you
- 22:43Speaker 3: can You can take it two ways, Rob, You've got
- 22:45Speaker 3: to listen to it and take it in for what
- 22:48Speaker 3: it is like about mental health, or you can listen
- 22:50Speaker 3: to it as a body of work, and both ways
- 22:52Speaker 3: it comes up trumps mate.
- 22:53Speaker 2: So well done.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Man.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I really really appreciate that. Thank you. It's been a pleasure.
