- 0:26Speaker 1: flipping your NFL network today this morning, good morning football,
- 0:29Speaker 1: you might have caught former LSU tiger Michael Brockers is
- 0:32Speaker 1: good enough to jump board with us here out from
- 0:34Speaker 1: La Yo. Man, good to talk again. How are you man?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm good, I'm good. How are you doing?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Fantastic? How's the wake up call?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I mean if it wasn't for the fact that I've
- 0:47Speaker 3: done it before, you know, so I was already you know,
- 0:51Speaker 3: prepared to wake up at three o'clock, well two o'clock,
- 0:54Speaker 3: you know, to get prepared for my calls. So you know,
- 0:58Speaker 3: if I wasn't already prepared for it would have been miserable.
- 1:01Speaker 3: You call him a definitely call him that definitely called
- 1:04Speaker 3: him that I needed that.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Hey, I was it was cool to see at the
- 1:09Speaker 1: draft that you got to call a few picks. How
- 1:12Speaker 1: did that all come together?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Man? Just you know, out of nowhere, just you know.
- 1:18Speaker 3: They gave him the opportunity to reach out to my lady,
- 1:22Speaker 3: uh Missie Orlanda and uh talked to her and the opportunity,
- 1:26Speaker 3: and I was like, yeah, let's do it. You know,
- 1:29Speaker 3: when somebody gives you opportunity to go to the draft
- 1:32Speaker 3: and you know get you know, give out a pick,
- 1:35Speaker 3: I think, you.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Know you should take it. So, uh that's what I did.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Is that? So is it the RAMS that reached out
- 1:41Speaker 1: or is the NFL pick?
- 1:44Speaker 2: I think it was the NFL.
- 1:46Speaker 3: I don't think they were necessarily like the RAMS organization.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I think it was just a you know, good look for.
- 1:51Speaker 1: The Michael Brockers is with us. So you're you're kind
- 1:54Speaker 1: of putting on the analyst cap this week. Let me
- 1:57Speaker 1: ask you some things that are super relevant here in
- 2:00Speaker 1: Louisiana with the Saints right now. Over the weekend, we
- 2:02Speaker 1: saw a report for Jeff Duncan that the Saints will
- 2:04Speaker 1: not pursue Aaron Rodgers as a veteran quarterback option. What
- 2:09Speaker 1: do you think man should should the Saints pursue a
- 2:12Speaker 1: guy like Aaron Rodgers?
- 2:15Speaker 3: I mean, in my years of experience, brother, you can't
- 2:19Speaker 3: win without a quarterback.
- 2:21Speaker 2: You know, you can't win in this league.
- 2:23Speaker 3: And you know the important games you know, in January
- 2:27Speaker 3: and things like that, the center in January without a quarterback.
- 2:30Speaker 3: So to see an organization not focus on a quarterback.
- 2:35Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:36Speaker 3: But you know we are talking about the you know,
- 2:38Speaker 3: forty year old Aaron Rodgers as well, so you know
- 2:42Speaker 3: there's there's play on both sides.
- 2:43Speaker 1: So how much of the Jets? Look, Rogers played seventeen
- 2:47Speaker 1: games last year with the Jets. The just weren't very
- 2:49Speaker 1: good teams. So when you looked at the Jets last year,
- 2:51Speaker 1: how much of it was aging Aaron Rodgers? How much
- 2:54Speaker 1: of it is they shall have a good enough roster
- 2:56Speaker 1: to compete.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know, man.
- 3:00Speaker 3: You know, I watched the game and I'm watching it
- 3:03Speaker 3: as you know, an athlete, and I'm watching him. You know,
- 3:05Speaker 3: he's throwing a lot of things off the back foot.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Not sure how the achilles is, you know, has healed up,
- 3:11Speaker 3: and a lot of those passes were underthrown and things
- 3:14Speaker 3: like that. You know, he still has zip on the ball,
- 3:17Speaker 3: but you know, really putting it, you know, putting weight
- 3:22Speaker 3: on that back leg and really letting it go. You know,
- 3:26Speaker 3: we will see if he can still do it, you know.
- 3:29Speaker 3: You know, I think he'll be on one of these seas.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Everybody needs he needs a quarterback at some point in time,
- 3:34Speaker 3: so hopefully we will see it this season.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Michael Brockers is our guest. You know, I'm glad you
- 3:39Speaker 1: brought up the whole you can't win without a great quarterback.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I would love to know your feelings as well as
- 3:45Speaker 1: a guy like who could relate to some of the
- 3:48Speaker 1: veteran players on this Saints team. Brockwere like, it feels
- 3:53Speaker 1: very much like the Saints are going to be in
- 3:55Speaker 1: the midst of a rebuild. But how do you go
- 3:58Speaker 1: to work? What is the feeling like as a veteran
- 4:01Speaker 1: player on this roster right now looking around, going, man,
- 4:03Speaker 1: this probably isn't going to be a great season.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Man, being on the team that you know was dealing with,
- 4:11Speaker 3: you know, a quarterback identity. Defensively, you feel like we
- 4:17Speaker 3: gotta get it done, you know, if offense, you know,
- 4:19Speaker 3: they feel like they can't get it done defensively. We
- 4:22Speaker 3: gotta get turnovers, We gotta be you know, extrassive. We
- 4:25Speaker 3: gotta you know, get touchdowns, you know, to get out
- 4:29Speaker 3: there and help this team win a game. You don't
- 4:33Speaker 3: practice for no reason. They don't put in game plans
- 4:35Speaker 3: for no reason.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Sorry about that.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah, no, looking at it, think as a helicopter. But
- 4:46Speaker 3: you know, they don't put in game plans for no reasons.
- 4:49Speaker 3: So you go out there practicing, uh, preparing to win
- 4:52Speaker 3: the game. But you know, the defense, you know, they
- 4:55Speaker 3: feel like they got most most of their veteran leaders
- 4:58Speaker 3: on the defense.
- 4:58Speaker 2: They feel like they got to get it done.
- 5:00Speaker 1: When you all drafted Jared Goff with the Rams, did
- 5:03Speaker 1: you feel like you could win immediately?
- 5:07Speaker 3: I mean with Sean mcvaymon and that whole staff when
- 5:11Speaker 3: they came in.
- 5:12Speaker 2: And just see the belief they had in themselves.
- 5:16Speaker 3: You know, he really told us like, man, defensively, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 3: if you guys keep it up, keep.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Doing what you're doing.
- 5:22Speaker 3: You know, we we were, you know, in the top
- 5:24Speaker 3: defenses in the league. You know, he was like, man, offensively,
- 5:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna come in here and you know, change this
- 5:28Speaker 3: thing up. So we just believed in the system. He
- 5:32Speaker 3: treated us as men, he held us accountable. I think
- 5:35Speaker 3: that was a really big thing, you know, as players,
- 5:38Speaker 3: just you know, held us to the high standard. You know,
- 5:40Speaker 3: didn't try to change us, you know personally, you know personally,
- 5:43Speaker 3: but you know, just held us to a high standard.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And you know, if everybody really wants to win games
- 5:49Speaker 3: in this league, everybody bought in. So I think that's what,
- 5:52Speaker 3: you know, you know, made him so successful and you
- 5:55Speaker 3: know why he is we is today.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You know, there's another guy in that staff who you
- 5:59Speaker 1: got to that was the defensive coordinator with the Rams
- 6:02Speaker 1: in twenty twenty. That was Brandon Staley who's now in
- 6:04Speaker 1: New Orleans as well. What was it like playing for
- 6:06Speaker 1: Brandon Staley?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Stateley was cool man Staley Staley. It was funny.
- 6:11Speaker 3: He always correlated because I think he's a I think
- 6:14Speaker 3: he's a basketball guy by nature, you know, in his heart.
- 6:18Speaker 3: So he he he attended a lot of things to
- 6:21Speaker 3: the basketball game. And you know, he talked about you know,
- 6:23Speaker 3: some of the greats uh that played basketball. But you know,
- 6:26Speaker 3: he was here's a pleasure to play with, you know,
- 6:29Speaker 3: his mind mentally, how he thinks about the game, how
- 6:32Speaker 3: he wants to uh attack the game and things like that.
- 6:36Speaker 3: So it was very pleasing to play, uh you know
- 6:41Speaker 3: under him and you know be successful.
- 6:43Speaker 2: You know with that group of guys.
- 6:44Speaker 1: What would you describe as his style how he plays.
- 6:49Speaker 3: You know, very aggressive like you know, you know, for
- 6:53Speaker 3: us D lineman, man, we want to get after the quarterback.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And you know, he he he has a group of guys.
- 6:57Speaker 3: He feels like you can get after the quarterback without
- 6:59Speaker 3: blitzen and things like that.
- 7:01Speaker 2: He'll let us roll.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So you know, you know, having a D and having
- 7:04Speaker 3: all these tremendous players you know, surround him, you know,
- 7:08Speaker 3: one on ones.
- 7:08Speaker 2: You know, we can get our one on ones and
- 7:10Speaker 2: get out of the.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Quarterback without bitch and it makes the defensive game so
- 7:13Speaker 3: much easier. So you know, you don't have to scheme
- 7:16Speaker 3: up you know, other blitzes and things like that.
- 7:18Speaker 2: But he loves to get out of the quarterback.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Michael Brockers has got two more for you. You said
- 7:23Speaker 1: talking about being a defensive lineman, push, push, ban it
- 7:27Speaker 1: or keep it.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I don't I mean I said it this morning.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Man, I don't think you need to ban it because
- 7:34Speaker 3: you know, it's it's a it's a quarterback sneak.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I mean, it's been run for centuries. You know, it
- 7:40Speaker 2: just so happened.
- 7:41Speaker 3: They have guys and the players to get to make
- 7:45Speaker 3: it more successful, you know. So I think defensively, we
- 7:48Speaker 3: have to figure out how we we we can beat
- 7:50Speaker 3: it or you know, load up on that one side.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I don't know, but you know, I don't think you
- 7:56Speaker 3: ban a play because they're having, you know, much.
- 7:59Speaker 2: To tess with it. It's our job defensively to stop it.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Your other former team, the Lions, have proposed changing the
- 8:06Speaker 1: playoff seeding so it would be just by record, not
- 8:10Speaker 1: the division winners getting the top seeds. What do you
- 8:13Speaker 1: think about that?
- 8:16Speaker 3: I don't know, man, you know how it's been going.
- 8:18Speaker 3: I mean the wreck you know, division seeds and the records.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I know, because you have some of those eight and
- 8:23Speaker 3: eight teams that you know can can squeak in.
- 8:26Speaker 2: But you know, if you win, if you.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Win the games, man, nobody nobody can complain, you know,
- 8:31Speaker 3: So uh, go out there and win the games.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I think that's the most important thing.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Rock. You want to NFL network again tomorrow?
- 8:39Speaker 2: I am.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I am good deal. So good morning football, what time
- 8:43Speaker 1: you get cranked up?
- 8:45Speaker 2: Man?
- 8:45Speaker 3: I think show starts six am Eastern.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know. I don't know. I'm being honest
- 8:53Speaker 2: with you. I know it's so early for me.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I don't know what it's what time it is on
- 8:57Speaker 3: the East Coast, So this is gonna be early. So
- 9:00Speaker 3: we're gonna be everybody that you know can eat breakfast
- 9:02Speaker 3: and you know, cut on the TV, watch some Good
- 9:04Speaker 3: Morning Football.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Former Tacker great Michael Brockers. Catch them tomorrow on Good
- 9:08Speaker 1: Morning Football and the NFL Network. Thanks Man, always great
- 9:11Speaker 1: to chat.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Appreciate you
