- 0:05Speaker 1: Little friends from across the niche in and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin and you are listening to Dad's Bedtime Stories,
- 0:13Speaker 1: the podcast that takes listener ideas and you know, turns
- 0:18Speaker 1: them into bedtime stories. Wants check out the idea we
- 0:21Speaker 1: have for today.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hi, my name is.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Ethan from Australia. I'd like to hear a story from
- 0:27Speaker 3: Spaceship Universe and when you wake up, Spaceship says there's
- 0:33Speaker 3: a mountain biking universe and when you arrive at the universe,
- 0:38Speaker 3: there's a boy named Xavier, and he says, do you
- 0:41Speaker 3: want to come mountain bike biking with me? And you
- 0:46Speaker 3: say yes. Then while you're doing mountain biking, he says,
- 0:50Speaker 3: there's a mountain biking competition that you can make your
- 0:54Speaker 3: own mountain biking trap anywhere in this world.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Bye.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I love your podcast.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Thank you, Ethan. I think that makes an excellent idea
- 1:03Speaker 1: for the podcast and that's exactly what I've come up
- 1:05Speaker 1: with for today. I hope the competition is how you
- 1:10Speaker 1: imagined it, because I didn't really know exactly what you
- 1:12Speaker 1: meant on the competition part. Now, before we get started
- 1:16Speaker 1: with the podcast, I just want to take a second
- 1:18Speaker 1: to say thank you to my latest Patreon sponsors, Ruth
- 1:22Speaker 1: Red and Will. I really appreciate you guys sponsoring the podcast.
- 1:28Speaker 1: As you know, this podcast has sponsored two ways. One
- 1:31Speaker 1: of them is through Patreon, where you can get AD
- 1:34Speaker 1: free episodes and some bonus content. And the other way
- 1:39Speaker 1: is through ads, which some people don't mind, and if
- 1:42Speaker 1: you don't mind, I don't mind, because they support the
- 1:46Speaker 1: podcast as well. Now, I never run ads during the story,
- 1:50Speaker 1: after the story or anything like that, so unfortunately I
- 1:55Speaker 1: try to get them all over with at the beginning.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Like right now, time to get as comfy as you
- 2:02Speaker 1: can in that bed, close your eyes, and imagine yourself
- 2:06Speaker 1: doing what the kid and the story does. This one
- 2:13Speaker 1: obviously takes place in our Spaceship universe. You wake up
- 2:19Speaker 1: to the soft hum of Spaceship all around you. You
- 2:24Speaker 1: lay there for a while, wrapped in the cozy blanket,
- 2:29Speaker 1: until you hear Spaceship's voice. Good morning, Spaceship says. You
- 2:36Speaker 1: sit up in bed and look out the window. You
- 2:40Speaker 1: see a blue green planet outside, hanging all bright and beautiful,
- 2:47Speaker 1: with white swirling clouds around it. Spaceship sounds more excited
- 2:53Speaker 1: than usual. I have discovered a new planet. And I
- 2:58Speaker 1: believe you will find it very interesting. What kind of
- 3:04Speaker 1: planet is it? A mountain biking planet, Spaceship answers. The
- 3:11Speaker 1: people here appear to be extremely interested in mountain biking,
- 3:18Speaker 1: not a little interested, not weekend hobby, interested, more like
- 3:24Speaker 1: we built our entire civilization around tires, suspension, dirt trails
- 3:30Speaker 1: and going downhill very fast. You climb out of bed
- 3:36Speaker 1: and walk toward the window. The planet grows larger as
- 3:41Speaker 1: spaceship gets closer. There are no cars on this planet,
- 3:46Speaker 1: none that I can detect. Only bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes,
- 3:53Speaker 1: cargo bikes, tiny bikes for tiny people, and electric mountain
- 3:59Speaker 1: bikes for people who enjoy going uphill without you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: pedaling hard well. Spaceship, I only have one thing to
- 4:08Speaker 1: say to that, Let's go. I was hoping you would
- 4:13Speaker 1: say that. You move to the control center of the ship,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and you watch out the window. As the spaceship gets
- 4:22Speaker 1: closer and closer, fire laid glows around the edges of
- 4:28Speaker 1: the ship. As you pass through the atmosphere, and soon
- 4:34Speaker 1: you see mountains everywhere, tall and sharp and green and brown.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Trails twist down their sides like little ribbons. Some of
- 4:48Speaker 1: them look smooth and flowing. Some zigzag through forests, some
- 4:53Speaker 1: drop over rocky edges, some leap across gaps on really
- 5:00Speaker 1: sketchy looking wooden ramps. You see chair lifts too climbing
- 5:06Speaker 1: up the mountains, but instead of ski racks, they have
- 5:11Speaker 1: bike holders built in. Riders sit on the chairs, helmets
- 5:16Speaker 1: on bikes hanging over the side. At the bottom of
- 5:21Speaker 1: one mountain is a whole village that looks like it's
- 5:24Speaker 1: built around biking repair shops, snack stands, helmet stores, trail
- 5:31Speaker 1: maps and huge signs showing all sorts of different routes.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Would you like to check out one of the mountains,
- 5:41Speaker 1: Spaceship asks as you fly over the little village.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Uh.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like the right place to go. Excellent
- 5:50Speaker 1: setting course. Spaceship flies towards one of the tallest mountains,
- 5:56Speaker 1: one that looks rather busy. Near the top, there's a
- 6:00Speaker 1: wooden chalet with big windows and a whole bunch of
- 6:05Speaker 1: bike racks. It reads sky Peak Mountain Bike Lodge. Spaceship
- 6:13Speaker 1: lands gently on a flat area right by the chalet.
- 6:18Speaker 1: The landing legs hiss as they touched down. The back
- 6:22Speaker 1: hatch opens and cool and very fresh mountain air rushes
- 6:27Speaker 1: inside you step out, the air smells like pine trees.
- 6:36Speaker 1: A boy about your age rolls up on a bright
- 6:40Speaker 1: blue mountain bike. He has a helmet covered in stickers,
- 6:44Speaker 1: gloves on his hands, and well knee pads. Hey, he
- 6:49Speaker 1: says the name Xavier. Are you visiting for the trails
- 6:54Speaker 1: or maybe even for the competition? You look at him.
- 6:59Speaker 1: There's a competition, Xavier's eyes widen. You came to Skyeak
- 7:06Speaker 1: and didn't know about the downhill freestyle competition? Yeah, basically,
- 7:14Speaker 1: you answer, well, is that your ship? Xavier asks, yeah?
- 7:22Speaker 1: Is your bike in it? You pause, I don't have
- 7:28Speaker 1: a bike. Xavier stares at you like you just told
- 7:32Speaker 1: him you don't have a head. You don't have a bike,
- 7:39Speaker 1: he asks, not with me? But you do have one? Right?
- 7:47Speaker 1: I think I might back on earth. Xavier slowly puts
- 7:52Speaker 1: one foot on the ground. How do you not have
- 7:57Speaker 1: a bike? I just didn't bring it with me in space.
- 8:05Speaker 1: He looks at you, completely confused. That's like saying you
- 8:12Speaker 1: left your legs at home. I've had a bike since
- 8:16Speaker 1: I was born. I go everywhere with it. You've had
- 8:21Speaker 1: a bike when you were a baby, of course, tiny
- 8:25Speaker 1: baby balance bike. I learned to bike before I learned
- 8:29Speaker 1: to walk. Most people around here do that. Seems hard.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Walking is so much harder. You have to balance on
- 8:39Speaker 1: two feet, Oh man, At least on a bike you
- 8:43Speaker 1: have wheels. Wheels are obviously better. You glance back at Spaceship.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I can go get a bike, XAVI. You're nod still
- 8:55Speaker 1: looking concerned. Good because the trails here are like amazing,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but walking down them would be very strange and people
- 9:05Speaker 1: would probably make fun of you. You head back inside Spaceship.
- 9:11Speaker 1: The hatch closes behind you. Spaceship, I need a mountain bike.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I suspected this might happen. I will warm up the
- 9:21Speaker 1: three dimensional printer. A panel opens in the floor and
- 9:26Speaker 1: a sleek machine rises up. It looks like a mix
- 9:31Speaker 1: between a robot arm, a glowing box, and like a
- 9:34Speaker 1: really big toaster. A screen slides down from the ceiling
- 9:40Speaker 1: in front of you. Please design your bike, trying not
- 9:44Speaker 1: to select anything boring. The screen fills with all sorts
- 9:50Speaker 1: of bike frames. Some look light and fast, some look
- 9:55Speaker 1: heavy and strong, some look like they're built for jumping,
- 9:59Speaker 1: and others look like they're built for downhill racing. You
- 10:03Speaker 1: swipe through them until you find one that looks perfect,
- 10:07Speaker 1: a full suspension mountain bike with a strong frame, wide tires,
- 10:13Speaker 1: powerful breaks, and enough shock absorption to land from something
- 10:18Speaker 1: that most bicycles probably shouldn't shouldn't do you choose the
- 10:24Speaker 1: best gears, the best brakes, the best tires, the best suspension,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and a seat that looks surprisingly comfortable for a bike.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Excellent choices. You have selected equipment that would normally cost
- 10:39Speaker 1: a small fortune. Luckily for you, we can three D
- 10:44Speaker 1: print almost anything we like. The machine begins to hum, and,
- 10:51Speaker 1: as it usually does, it starts to build the bike
- 10:55Speaker 1: atom by atom. Now, space Ship says, there is one
- 11:02Speaker 1: more possible problem. Do you know how to mountain bike?
- 11:08Speaker 1: You think about it? I mean I think I do.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It doesn't look too hard. You say, that is a
- 11:15Speaker 1: good beginning, But mountain biking down a cliff at high
- 11:19Speaker 1: speeds while performing a double backflip is something different entirely.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Spaceship explains, Uh, what do you suggest? The ceiling of
- 11:31Speaker 1: the ship opens up, and my little helmet attached to
- 11:34Speaker 1: a wire pops down. Put this on. It is a
- 11:39Speaker 1: memory training helmet. We have used it before. You place
- 11:44Speaker 1: the helmet on your head and for a second nothing happens.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Then your mind fills with motion, racing down forest trails,
- 11:55Speaker 1: leaning through turns, hopping over roots, balancing across narrow wooden bridges,
- 12:01Speaker 1: thousands of narrow wooden bridges. You see yourself flying off jumps,
- 12:08Speaker 1: turning in the air, landing smoothly pedaling away. Memories from
- 12:14Speaker 1: all sorts of different mountain bikers pass through your mind
- 12:19Speaker 1: in an instant and almost instantly, you know how to
- 12:25Speaker 1: mountain bike, and not just normal mountain biking either extreme
- 12:32Speaker 1: mountain biking. By the time the helmet turns off and
- 12:36Speaker 1: pops off of your head, you feel like a mountain
- 12:40Speaker 1: biking expert. But the knowledge isn't just theoretical. It's built
- 12:45Speaker 1: into your very muscle memory. You know how to balance,
- 12:50Speaker 1: how to jump, how to land, how to fall safely
- 12:53Speaker 1: if you have to, how to read a trail, how
- 12:57Speaker 1: to spot the fastest line down a mountain, how to
- 13:00Speaker 1: do a backflip, a dale whip a three sixty, and
- 13:06Speaker 1: several other tricks with names that nobody really knows. One
- 13:11Speaker 1: more thing, Spaceship says, I have added eight mountain bike
- 13:16Speaker 1: armor mode to your watch. You lift your wrist, the
- 13:21Speaker 1: watch glows. I have already loaded. It simply pressed the button,
- 13:27Speaker 1: Spaceship says, you press the button on the watch, and
- 13:32Speaker 1: tiny silver nanide spill out of your watch like liquid metal,
- 13:37Speaker 1: racing across your body and forming themselves into mountain bike armor. Chest,
- 13:43Speaker 1: blade pads covering your elbows and knees, gloves wrapping around
- 13:48Speaker 1: your hands, and a helmet over top of your head.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Smooth and strong, with very clear vision. Only inside the
- 13:58Speaker 1: helmet there's what they call a heads up display, I
- 14:04Speaker 1: tech digital information that can be projected out onto your environment.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Can you hear me, Spaceship says through the helmet, loud
- 14:14Speaker 1: and clear. You answer, excellent. Try not to test the
- 14:19Speaker 1: armor too much, however, I believe it should protect you
- 14:23Speaker 1: from even the most devastating fall. Though it looks like
- 14:27Speaker 1: normal mountain bike armor, it is heavily reinforced. Even a
- 14:33Speaker 1: laser blast should not penetrate it, and I have added
- 14:38Speaker 1: an anti gravity mode. In the case of an extreme fall,
- 14:42Speaker 1: you should end up floating just above the surface of
- 14:46Speaker 1: the planet. Cool. You say, you think for a second
- 14:52Speaker 1: that maybe you should test it out by jumping up
- 14:54Speaker 1: and trying to land on your side, But well, you
- 14:58Speaker 1: decide not to do that. Soon the bike finishes, The
- 15:03Speaker 1: door opens up and you hop on it, putting one
- 15:07Speaker 1: foot on a pedal and pushing forward. You ride out
- 15:11Speaker 1: of spaceship like you've been on a mountain bike your
- 15:14Speaker 1: entire life, or many entire lifetimes, honestly. Xavier still waiting outside,
- 15:22Speaker 1: when he sees the bike, his mouth drops open. That
- 15:27Speaker 1: he says, is a very nice bike. Yeah, yeah, my head,
- 15:33Speaker 1: it printed. Xavier nods slowly. I didn't even know you
- 15:38Speaker 1: could print bikes, but that's really cool. You ride together
- 15:44Speaker 1: towards the first trail. Xavier leads the way. All right, man,
- 15:49Speaker 1: this one here is what we call a beginner trail.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's good for warming up, I guess, but honestly, not
- 15:57Speaker 1: that much fun. The trail begins gently, curving through pine trees,
- 16:03Speaker 1: dirt hums beneath your tires. You lean into the turns
- 16:08Speaker 1: and the bike responds perfectly. You rolled over small bumps,
- 16:13Speaker 1: glide through soft corners, and hop easily over a fallen branch.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It feels amazing. The wind rushes against your helmet, the
- 16:25Speaker 1: trees blur past, and your tires grip the ground perfectly.
- 16:31Speaker 1: You're doing great, Xavier says, yeah, this is fun. You
- 16:36Speaker 1: call back, but it's also easy, very easy. At the
- 16:42Speaker 1: bottom of the beginner trail, Xavier grins, Okay, well you're
- 16:48Speaker 1: definitely not terrible. Thanks, you say, that's a strong compliment. Here.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I want to try like an intermedia trail or something. Yeah, sure,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you say. You take the lift part way back up
- 17:06Speaker 1: the mountain and start again. The intermediate trail is much
- 17:11Speaker 1: more exciting. It has wooden bridges built between trees, narrow
- 17:17Speaker 1: balance beams, steep banked corners, and little jumps placed right
- 17:23Speaker 1: after turns. Some bridges rise high above the ground, twisting
- 17:28Speaker 1: through the forest like wooden roller coasters. You follow Xavier
- 17:34Speaker 1: onto the first bridge. The wood rattles under your tires,
- 17:39Speaker 1: but luckily your muscle memory kicks into place and it's
- 17:44Speaker 1: pretty easy to remain balanced. Then comes a gap. Xavier
- 17:50Speaker 1: jumps first, landing on the next wooden platform with a thump.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You follow for one breath. You're floating in the air.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Then your tires touched down perfectly, and you keep going.
- 18:05Speaker 1: The next section is a series of tight turns and
- 18:09Speaker 1: raised platforms. You pump your legs, lean your shoulders, and
- 18:14Speaker 1: let the bike flow beneath you. Every movement feels natural,
- 18:20Speaker 1: every bump well easy to absorb. At the end of
- 18:25Speaker 1: the trail, Xavier stops and laughs, Well, you're actually pretty good.
- 18:31Speaker 1: You didn't even scream over any of the bridges. I
- 18:35Speaker 1: thought about screaming, you say, but I was too busy
- 18:40Speaker 1: making sure I didn't fall off. Well, then, I think
- 18:44Speaker 1: you're ready for the ultimate extreme trail, Xavier says. You
- 18:51Speaker 1: look up at the trail that Xavier's looking at. It
- 18:55Speaker 1: starts near the top of the mountain and drops almost down.
- 19:01Speaker 1: You can see huge jumps, rocky sections, wooden ramps, cliff edges,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and steep shootes that vanish into the trees. That trail
- 19:13Speaker 1: has a name. Xavier says, Oh, what is it? Bad?
- 19:19Speaker 1: Idea ridge? You stare at him. Is it safe? Xavier shrugs, well,
- 19:28Speaker 1: like no, it's totally not safe, he says, spaceship speaks
- 19:34Speaker 1: in your helmet. I have scanned the trail. It is dangerous,
- 19:38Speaker 1: but not impossible. With your current training and safety equipment,
- 19:44Speaker 1: you should be perfectly fine. All right, Then you say,
- 19:50Speaker 1: let's try it. The chairlift carries you and Xavier to
- 19:55Speaker 1: the very top again, your bike hanging beside you. At
- 20:00Speaker 1: the top, Xavier takes a deep breath all right, now
- 20:05Speaker 1: remember stay loose, look ahead, trust the bike. You nod.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Then you push off. The trail drops fast, Your tires
- 20:19Speaker 1: roll over loose dirt and small stones. You bend your
- 20:23Speaker 1: elbows and knees, letting the bike move beneath you. The
- 20:28Speaker 1: first turn comes sharply to the left. You lean hard,
- 20:32Speaker 1: carving around it, dirt spraying from your back tire. Then
- 20:37Speaker 1: you come to the first jump. Your head's up display
- 20:41Speaker 1: flashes speed good pull. Now you lift the front wheel.
- 20:48Speaker 1: The bike launches up into the air and you soar
- 20:52Speaker 1: over a rocky gap, land on the far side, and
- 20:56Speaker 1: instantly roll into a steep shoot between two boulders. The
- 21:01Speaker 1: walls blur beside you. At the bottom, the trail shoots
- 21:06Speaker 1: into a wooden ramp. Jump Incoming Spaceship says you hit
- 21:12Speaker 1: the ramp and fly without even thinking. You twist the
- 21:17Speaker 1: bike sideways in the air, then bring it back straight
- 21:21Speaker 1: before landing. Your suspension absorbs the impact and Xavier whoops
- 21:29Speaker 1: behind you. The trail gets steeper. You race over roots,
- 21:35Speaker 1: hop over rocks, and drop off a ledge into a
- 21:38Speaker 1: soft dirt landing. Then the path splits around a cliff.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Xavier takes the safe side. Your head's up display shows
- 21:48Speaker 1: the other side glowing yellow optional advanced line. Spaceship says,
- 21:55Speaker 1: technically a shortcut, you decide to take it. The bike
- 22:01Speaker 1: rockets along the cliff edge. Far below, trees look like
- 22:05Speaker 1: tiny green brushes. The path narrows to almost nothing, but
- 22:12Speaker 1: you stay calm, eyes forward, body steady. At the end
- 22:17Speaker 1: of the ledge is a very narrow ramp. Beyond it
- 22:22Speaker 1: is a gap that looks much too large. Don't worry,
- 22:26Speaker 1: spaceship says, you are traveling at the correct speed to
- 22:31Speaker 1: make the gap. You launch off of the thing. The
- 22:35Speaker 1: whole mountain drops beneath you. For a second, you're basically flying.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You tuck, rotate backward, and perform a smooth back flip
- 22:48Speaker 1: over the gap. The sky spins, the forest spins, and
- 22:54Speaker 1: the landing appears exactly where it should be. Your tires
- 22:58Speaker 1: hit the dirt perfectly. You ride the rest of the
- 23:03Speaker 1: extreme trail, and a blur of speed and joy over jumps,
- 23:09Speaker 1: carving around, turns, skidding to a stop at the bottom.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Besides Xavier that he says, what was ridiculous? Good? Ridiculous?
- 23:23Speaker 1: You ask competition level ridiculous? I think you should totally
- 23:29Speaker 1: sign up for the Downhill Freestyle Challenge, he says, Oh,
- 23:35Speaker 1: it's that you ask. Well, basically, each competitor gets to
- 23:40Speaker 1: pick their own path down the mountain, you know, and well,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you have to be as stylish as possible and try
- 23:48Speaker 1: your best to not unlive yourself or anything. There's judges
- 23:54Speaker 1: at the bottom that rate you for your style, creativity, difficulty,
- 23:59Speaker 1: and you know that sort of thing, and that is
- 24:05Speaker 1: how you find yourself signed up for the Downhill Freestyle Challenge,
- 24:11Speaker 1: Xavier helps you go through the process and sign all
- 24:14Speaker 1: of the waivers that explain very adamantly that it's not
- 24:19Speaker 1: anybody else's fault if you don't make it down the mountain.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You watch the other riders go. One spins off a
- 24:28Speaker 1: wooden ramp and lands perfectly. Another rides down a rocky
- 24:33Speaker 1: waterfall trail, bouncing from stone to stone. Xavier, who has
- 24:39Speaker 1: also joined the competition, takes his run and does amazing,
- 24:44Speaker 1: flying through the trees and landing three clean tricks. Then
- 24:50Speaker 1: it's your turn. You sit at the top of the
- 24:53Speaker 1: mountain with your hands on the handlebars. Inside your helmet,
- 24:58Speaker 1: spaceship scans the entire slope, calculating optimal route for style
- 25:05Speaker 1: he says, factoring in jump distance, wind, landing, agle, dramatic effect,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and how loudly people are likely to cheer for you.
- 25:17Speaker 1: A red pathway appears, and your head's up display glowing
- 25:22Speaker 1: across the mountain. It doesn't follow one trail, but it
- 25:27Speaker 1: connects pieces of trails together, many trails, a ramp from
- 25:33Speaker 1: one route, a cliff from another, a wooden bridge, a
- 25:37Speaker 1: rock shoed, a giant jump, a narrow ridge, and of course,
- 25:41Speaker 1: one final drop that looks like something only a bird
- 25:44Speaker 1: should attempt. Spaceship You say, are you sure about this? No,
- 25:52Speaker 1: he says, but again, you have the correct protective equipment
- 25:57Speaker 1: and should be fine. I am very confident in my
- 26:01Speaker 1: anti gravity saving device. All right, you say. You take
- 26:08Speaker 1: a deep breath, and then you go, following the pathway
- 26:13Speaker 1: that's lined out in your helmet. The bike surges forward,
- 26:20Speaker 1: The first ramp comes fast. Your head's up display indicates
- 26:25Speaker 1: your speed and then flashes green when you reach the
- 26:29Speaker 1: right speed to make it across. You pull up and
- 26:33Speaker 1: launch into the air, spinning a full turn before landing
- 26:37Speaker 1: smoothly on a dirt slope. The crowd below is far away,
- 26:44Speaker 1: but you can hear them clearly. As they cheer and
- 26:47Speaker 1: point you race into the trees. Next branches blur around you.
- 26:54Speaker 1: You hop onto a wooden bridge, ride along its narrow spine,
- 26:59Speaker 1: then jump off the side before it actually ends. You
- 27:03Speaker 1: drop to ward a lower trail, tilt the bike, and
- 27:08Speaker 1: land perfectly into a banked turn. Excellent job, very stylish,
- 27:14Speaker 1: spaceship says. The red line in your head's up display
- 27:19Speaker 1: sends you to ward a giant rock face. You pedal
- 27:23Speaker 1: hard and at the last second you lift land on
- 27:28Speaker 1: the rock, ride down it at a wild angle, and
- 27:32Speaker 1: launch off the bottom. This time you flip backward twice,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and the world spins around you twice. You extend your
- 27:43Speaker 1: body straight in the bike and touch down exactly in
- 27:48Speaker 1: the landing zone. The crowd sound rops again, cheering for you,
- 27:55Speaker 1: but the biggest jump still seems to be ahead. Red
- 28:00Speaker 1: line leads to a cliff, not a normal cliff, a
- 28:05Speaker 1: cliff that looks like the mountains started making a ramp
- 28:08Speaker 1: and then forgot to finish. Beyond it is an absolutely
- 28:13Speaker 1: gigantic gap, and beyond that is a very very narrow
- 28:19Speaker 1: landing trail speed requirement displayed, spaceship says. A number glows
- 28:26Speaker 1: in your visor still red, you pedal faster and faster
- 28:32Speaker 1: and faster as the cliff rushes towards you. Soon the
- 28:38Speaker 1: number turns green and you hit the cliff edge. You
- 28:43Speaker 1: fly through the air, The planet falls away beneath you,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and for a moment everything is quiet except well the
- 28:53Speaker 1: wind and the screaming crowd in the background. You pull
- 28:58Speaker 1: the bike up, spin sideways, then tuck into a clean backflip.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Halfway through, you twist again, turning the bike beneath you.
- 29:11Speaker 1: The sky and mountain trade places, and your head's up
- 29:16Speaker 1: displayed draws the landing path in bright red. You do
- 29:21Speaker 1: your best to land on it, and sure enough, the
- 29:25Speaker 1: tires hit the narrow trail and you land. You actually land.
- 29:32Speaker 1: The suspension compresses, rebounds, and sends you smoothly into the
- 29:38Speaker 1: final slope. You race through the last turn, hop over
- 29:42Speaker 1: one final jump, and cross the finish line, twisting sideways
- 29:48Speaker 1: and spraying dirt up into the air. For a second,
- 29:53Speaker 1: no one moves, Then the entire crowd erupts. Xavier runs
- 29:59Speaker 1: up over, laughing and shouting, that was the wildest thing
- 30:04Speaker 1: I've ever seen. You pull off your helmet. The judges
- 30:10Speaker 1: raise their score, paddles one by one they hold them
- 30:15Speaker 1: up ten ten, ten ten. Every judge gives you a
- 30:24Speaker 1: perfect score, which obviously means you've won. All right, you're
- 30:32Speaker 1: the new champion space Visitor, Xavier says, as the crowd
- 30:37Speaker 1: cheers loudly. One of the judges stands up, grabs a
- 30:43Speaker 1: gigantic trophy and hands it over towards you. Thanks, you say.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Everyone celebrats at the top of the mountain. After the competition,
- 30:56Speaker 1: there's all sorts of food and well, you know, great
- 31:00Speaker 1: music and that sort of thing. But after a little
- 31:04Speaker 1: while you get a bit tired. Xavier, I think it's
- 31:10Speaker 1: probably time I head to bed. You say, that was
- 31:14Speaker 1: a lot of fun, though maybe I'll come back one day. Well,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you did really well. I'd love to bike with you again.
- 31:23Speaker 1: See you later. Xavier reaches out to give you a
- 31:27Speaker 1: fist bump. You respond by bumping his fist back, because
- 31:32Speaker 1: it would be rude not to. You grab your bike
- 31:36Speaker 1: handles and walk the bike over to Spaceship. The ramp lowers.
- 31:42Speaker 1: You walk onto the thing, place the bike against the side,
- 31:47Speaker 1: and lay down on the couch. The door to the
- 31:52Speaker 1: ship closes, the engines hummed to life, and Spaceship lifts
- 31:59Speaker 1: up into the air. While he leaves the atmosphere, you
- 32:04Speaker 1: rest your head down on the billow, close your eyes,
- 32:10Speaker 1: and with each breath you let go of a little
- 32:14Speaker 1: more tension, And with each breath your mind wanders off
- 32:21Speaker 1: a little bit further to thoughts of new dreams, new mountains,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and new adventures to come. Good Night, everyone, us.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Never nion.
