- 1:45Speaker 1: The Art of Sensing, A Guide for staying true to
- 1:48Speaker 1: your Soul's Journey through Challenging Times. Please join me in
- 1:53Speaker 1: welcoming to Destination Unlimited, Carol Obly Welcome.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Carol, Hi Victor. Thank you for having me.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So nice to have you back on again. When we
- 2:03Speaker 1: last spoke about a year ago of February of twenty
- 2:06Speaker 1: twenty four, and today we're going to be talking about
- 2:09Speaker 1: your brand new book, The Art of Sensing, A Guide
- 2:13Speaker 1: for staying true to your Soul's Journey through Challenging Times.
- 2:17Speaker 1: But first, for listeners meeting you for the first time,
- 2:20Speaker 1: please share your early path.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm a professional medium. I've done that for about
- 2:26Speaker 2: thirty years, and I fell onto the path. Although I
- 2:32Speaker 2: believe in my heart, I know in my soul that
- 2:35Speaker 2: it was a calling and it came about through a
- 2:41Speaker 2: very catastrophic event. That event was a fire in the
- 2:44Speaker 2: business I was running at the time, and it took
- 2:48Speaker 2: me completely out of that old life. And so about
- 2:54Speaker 2: a year later I was called to a little metaphysical
- 2:59Speaker 2: center in the small town where I live and I
- 3:03Speaker 2: started taking classes there one thing after another, went to
- 3:06Speaker 2: Delphi University, which is near Atlanta, Georgia, and continued to
- 3:14Speaker 2: do readings that I started there, much to my surprise,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and today I think I have on my website about
- 3:23Speaker 2: fifteen thousand readings. It's probably more than that. I've also
- 3:28Speaker 2: taught many workshops, a lot of them through Lilydale, a
- 3:31Speaker 2: spiritualist community in New York, both in person and through Zoom.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I've taught my own workshops, you know, with my own people,
- 3:43Speaker 2: and written This is my fifth book, and I have
- 3:48Speaker 2: one in the pipeline as we speak. So that's the
- 3:53Speaker 2: synopsis of thirty years of working with spirit.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Now, as a child, did you have any cognition whatsoever
- 4:01Speaker 1: of these gifts?
- 4:03Speaker 2: None whatsoever in fact, And I wrote about this in
- 4:06Speaker 2: Wisdom from the Spirit World. That's the book just previous
- 4:10Speaker 2: to the Art of Sensing that. I was a child
- 4:14Speaker 2: who was very fearful and particularly of death, ironically, very fearful.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And I recount the story of going to see my
- 4:24Speaker 2: first grandparents who passed. I was only ten years old
- 4:28Speaker 2: at the time, and I remember being terrified of seeing
- 4:32Speaker 2: his body in the casket and having nightmares about it
- 4:38Speaker 2: and Interestingly though, I was always very fascinated and intrigued
- 4:45Speaker 2: about what happens to us when we die. And one
- 4:49Speaker 2: of the stories I recount also is walking through a
- 4:53Speaker 2: graveyard at a very young age with my paternal grandmother
- 4:57Speaker 2: holding her hand. Was a Catholic matery, so there were
- 5:01Speaker 2: photographs under glass on some of the gravestones. Some of
- 5:06Speaker 2: these gravestones were children, and I remember as a child
- 5:10Speaker 2: standing there gazing at that photo and wondering, where is
- 5:16Speaker 2: that child now? And why would God take a child?
- 5:21Speaker 2: Why would a child die? And does that soul know
- 5:25Speaker 2: that I'm standing here on their grave looking at their photo. So,
- 5:30Speaker 2: at this very young age, I was very precocious, very inquisitive,
- 5:36Speaker 2: drove my parents crazy with asking why, why this? Why that.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I was raised in traditional religion, in a Christian Church,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and you know, it never felt complete to me. And
- 5:55Speaker 2: although I really got into scriptures and so forth, I
- 5:58Speaker 2: was never I ever felt spirit in my rational mind
- 6:04Speaker 2: or you know, just studying scripture. And so then I
- 6:07Speaker 2: got into a whole bunch of trouble during my late
- 6:11Speaker 2: teens and early twenties with drugs and alcohol, acting very crazy,
- 6:17Speaker 2: and my spirituality really began to blossom at the age
- 6:23Speaker 2: of twenty five when I went into twelve step recovery,
- 6:27Speaker 2: and so I got my hands on every spiritual book,
- 6:31Speaker 2: every twelve step recovery book. I could get women's studies,
- 6:36Speaker 2: all sorts of things, nonfiction books to try to understand
- 6:42Speaker 2: who I was, because I really had no idea. So
- 6:47Speaker 2: unlike some mediums, I was not aware of the ability
- 6:51Speaker 2: of the sensitivity, although I know I had it because
- 6:55Speaker 2: I've studied astrology in depth. I offer astrology readings to
- 6:59Speaker 2: people basically on the movement of the soul. It's not
- 7:04Speaker 2: mundane astrology, it's spiritual astrology and particularly karmaic astrology. So
- 7:12Speaker 2: I've studied my birth chart in and out, and I
- 7:14Speaker 2: see in my birth chart that I was born with
- 7:18Speaker 2: the sensitivity, but the fear, I believe, really kept it paralyzed.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Now you are an evidential medium. How do you define
- 7:30Speaker 1: evidential mediumship?
- 7:34Speaker 2: It is mediumship meaning being a conduit or bridge between
- 7:39Speaker 2: the fiscal world and the non fiscal world or what
- 7:43Speaker 2: is called the spirit world, and presenting facts of the
- 7:48Speaker 2: spirit communicator who is blending with me, their soul, blending
- 7:55Speaker 2: with mind. That's how mediumship is accomplished. Otherwise it would
- 8:00Speaker 2: not be possible, and presenting those facts during the reading
- 8:05Speaker 2: to you know, create the identity of the communicating spirit,
- 8:12Speaker 2: such as names, occupation, memories, you know, validating personality characteristics.
- 8:23Speaker 2: All of that can be considered evidentiary mediumship.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Now, as you just mentioned before, you since after doing
- 8:31Speaker 1: your astrology and looking at your karmic background, that you
- 8:35Speaker 1: were actually born with this is it something that you
- 8:38Speaker 1: have to be born with or can others learn this?
- 8:42Speaker 2: I believe I'm from the school of a medium is
- 8:45Speaker 2: born and really not made. And in no way am
- 8:49Speaker 2: I suggesting that people can't develop intuitively. In fact, I've
- 8:54Speaker 2: taught intuitive development. I've taught mediumship development to people. But
- 9:01Speaker 2: I really believe it's sort of you know, I use
- 9:04Speaker 2: the analogy of being an artist or a musician or
- 9:07Speaker 2: an athlete, that we come into a fiscal life with
- 9:12Speaker 2: certain predispositions and we've probably done those things in other
- 9:19Speaker 2: experiences here on the earth, and so it doesn't make
- 9:24Speaker 2: one superior in any way. In fact, you'll never hear
- 9:27Speaker 2: me use the word gifted about myself. I believe it's
- 9:31Speaker 2: a skill that is developed, and it takes many years
- 9:36Speaker 2: to develop, but it's something that I believe the soul
- 9:42Speaker 2: chooses before coming here for purposes of service and importantly,
- 9:48Speaker 2: its own evolution.
- 9:51Speaker 1: In addition to the mediumship work. Have you had any
- 9:54Speaker 1: paranormal experiences?
- 9:57Speaker 2: Many? Many, and those go back thirty years that I've had.
- 10:05Speaker 2: One probably one of the most remarkable ones is I
- 10:08Speaker 2: was living in an older home and I was standing
- 10:15Speaker 2: at my bathroom sink one evening brushing my teeth. It
- 10:19Speaker 2: was early in the evening, it was only about seven
- 10:21Speaker 2: thirty eight o'clock, and all of a sudden, as I'm
- 10:25Speaker 2: standing there, a huge cloud of ectoplasm or you know,
- 10:31Speaker 2: spiritual material kind of looks like smoke. It's white and diffuse.
- 10:37Speaker 2: It came out of the wall in front of me,
- 10:42Speaker 2: and I took a few steps backwards and as I watched,
- 10:47Speaker 2: it dissipated back into the wall. Now this was just
- 10:52Speaker 2: one experience in this particular house. The ectoplasm would appear
- 10:58Speaker 2: in different places is throughout the house. I had dogs
- 11:02Speaker 2: at the time, and it would sort of hover over
- 11:05Speaker 2: top of my dogs. They had dog beds on the
- 11:08Speaker 2: floor and this actoplasm would kind of hover over them.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And the other some other things that happened in that
- 11:17Speaker 2: house where I would get this strong smell of alcohol,
- 11:22Speaker 2: and I have not drank alcohol in forty one years,
- 11:25Speaker 2: so nobody and nobody was drinking in my house. And
- 11:32Speaker 2: I would smell cigarette smoke as well, so it was
- 11:37Speaker 2: very strange. I was really frightened by it, and I
- 11:42Speaker 2: talked to this entity and said, please, don't you know,
- 11:47Speaker 2: please don't do this, You're frightening me, and it stopped.
- 11:55Speaker 2: So's there's many others. Those are probably the most remarkedable
- 12:01Speaker 2: that I could tell you about in this segment. But
- 12:05Speaker 2: there are things that people would think I was probably
- 12:09Speaker 2: making them up, but certainly I'm one of the more
- 12:13Speaker 2: grounded people. You know. In addition to be highly intuitive
- 12:18Speaker 2: and metimistic, I'm very grounded as well. And these were
- 12:22Speaker 2: very real experiences.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I don't recall if I shared this with you on
- 12:28Speaker 1: your previous appearances with me on these shows, but when
- 12:31Speaker 1: I was six and a half years old, I was
- 12:33Speaker 1: very close with my paternal grandfather, who was well into
- 12:38Speaker 1: his eighties at the time. And I was in my
- 12:41Speaker 1: room one day and I was reading a book or
- 12:43Speaker 1: reading something, looking at something, and I looked up my
- 12:46Speaker 1: grandfather was standing there, and I said Grandpa, when did
- 12:48Speaker 1: you come in? And he just smiled at me. There
- 12:51Speaker 1: was no answer, and he sort of dissolved and disappeared,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and I went into the living room and I said
- 12:56Speaker 1: to my parents, Grandpa was here, and they were a
- 12:59Speaker 1: little upset by that because he had been at the
- 13:01Speaker 1: hospital in the hospital at the time, and within a
- 13:04Speaker 1: couple of minutes the phone rang with word of his passing.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So that was probably my first recognition of the essence
- 13:11Speaker 1: of spirit and the gift of spirit. And I was
- 13:15Speaker 1: grateful that he came to me at that point and
- 13:18Speaker 1: gave me that opening, and it also showed his love
- 13:20Speaker 1: for me.
- 13:22Speaker 2: It certainly did. And you know, I've had all clients
- 13:25Speaker 2: over the years who have relayed similar stories, and my
- 13:30Speaker 2: sense is it's that soul coming to say goodbye temporarily
- 13:36Speaker 2: because we know that the bond of love is eternal
- 13:40Speaker 2: and it's forever. It will never diminish through death. So
- 13:46Speaker 2: you know, I believe that it is a way, and
- 13:49Speaker 2: that's a real blessing for that to happen for you.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It's a way of the soul saying, you know, goodbye,
- 13:59Speaker 2: but we're still acted I'll see you the next time around.
- 14:04Speaker 2: And I can imagine your parents were probably upset.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Absolutely many of the things that I shared when I
- 14:12Speaker 1: was a child were labeled as overactive imagination until my
- 14:18Speaker 1: mother a couple of years before she transitioned. I took
- 14:23Speaker 1: her out to lunch one day and the topic came up,
- 14:26Speaker 1: and I said, you never had any strange experiences, did you?
- 14:29Speaker 1: She said, no, except for that time, and she started
- 14:33Speaker 1: all of these things, which confirmed for me everything that
- 14:36Speaker 1: I had known throughout our lives. So I'm grateful that
- 14:39Speaker 1: she gave me that gift prior to her transition. How
- 14:42Speaker 1: do you define the sixth sense?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Well, it's intuition, and we have our five physical senses,
- 14:51Speaker 2: of course, and we need those to navigate here on
- 14:55Speaker 2: the physical plane. Of course, there are people who are
- 14:57Speaker 2: mine as some of those deaf, and interestingly, I find,
- 15:03Speaker 2: you know the stories I've read over the years, those
- 15:06Speaker 2: people become particularly intuitive because they're missing, you know, some
- 15:12Speaker 2: of the physical senses, so they become more tuned in
- 15:16Speaker 2: to the intuitive sense. Now, in the art of sensing,
- 15:20Speaker 2: I do distinguish between a sort of garden variety intuition,
- 15:26Speaker 2: in other words, that gut knowing something's going to happen,
- 15:29Speaker 2: or don't get on that particular road, or I feel
- 15:33Speaker 2: strange I'm around this particular person, or I don't trust
- 15:37Speaker 2: that person. That's what I would call sort of a
- 15:40Speaker 2: garden variety, not to diminish it at all. It's very
- 15:44Speaker 2: useful and protective. But spiritual intuition is listening to and
- 15:51Speaker 2: importantly trusting and following the voice of our own soul,
- 15:58Speaker 2: and by doing so we can navigate through challenges in life,
- 16:03Speaker 2: which almost all of us have at one point or another,
- 16:07Speaker 2: more successfully, more easily, and with much less suffering. So
- 16:13Speaker 2: that's the difference between those two.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Is this something that you would talk we had talked
- 16:19Speaker 1: about before being born with a gift or developing it?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Is this something that anyone can develop the intuition?
- 16:26Speaker 2: Spiritual intuition, I believe so, and one of the most
- 16:32Speaker 2: important tools. And by the way, in the art of sensing.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I give practical exercises in most of the chapters so
- 16:40Speaker 2: that people These are simple things that don't cost any money.
- 16:44Speaker 2: You can do at home or go out in nature
- 16:47Speaker 2: in your own backyard and do to become closer to
- 16:54Speaker 2: that inner voice, the inner landscape. The first part of
- 16:58Speaker 2: the book I talk about there are sections the inner
- 17:01Speaker 2: landscape and then the outer landscape. The inner landscape being
- 17:07Speaker 2: everything that's internal to the individual, particularly the soul, the
- 17:13Speaker 2: divinity of the soul, the sacredness of the soul, and
- 17:18Speaker 2: importantly the whispering of the soul, which is spiritual intuition.
- 17:22Speaker 2: The outer landscape is anything external to the individual and society, culture,
- 17:30Speaker 2: other people, things, places. All of that is the outer landscape,
- 17:36Speaker 2: and all of that will invariably change, it's just a
- 17:40Speaker 2: matter of time. What will not change is the inner landscape,
- 17:46Speaker 2: as far as the perfection and the divinity of the soul.
- 17:52Speaker 1: The last time you were on, as we had mentioned,
- 17:55Speaker 1: you shared your book Wisdom from the Spirit World. Life
- 17:59Speaker 1: teaching is on love, forgiveness, purpose and finding peace. What
- 18:03Speaker 1: did you offer readers in that book?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Wisdom from the Spirit World was a compilation of lessons
- 18:12Speaker 2: I believe there are nine or ten of them that I,
- 18:17Speaker 2: over thirty years of giving readings at that point twenty
- 18:20Speaker 2: five years, had gleaned from thousands of sessions, and so
- 18:26Speaker 2: I organized them in the second section of the book
- 18:31Speaker 2: of what I personally have learned and observed from the
- 18:35Speaker 2: communication from the Spirit world from spirit communicators, and for example,
- 18:42Speaker 2: the first one is, and it seems rather obvious, there
- 18:46Speaker 2: is an afterlife, and so you know, because there are
- 18:50Speaker 2: people who don't believe that anything. You know, we just
- 18:54Speaker 2: when we die, our consciousness dies. So that's a very
- 18:59Speaker 2: fundamental lesson that And how is that proven? Really well,
- 19:06Speaker 2: in my opinion and my experience, by my knowledge given
- 19:12Speaker 2: to me by the spirit communicator. Things that are very
- 19:15Speaker 2: specific that I would have no way of knowing, that
- 19:19Speaker 2: are very specific to that soul. And you know, how
- 19:25Speaker 2: would I know that well, because that intelligence of that
- 19:32Speaker 2: soul lives on after leaving the fiscal body. So that's
- 19:38Speaker 2: one of the lessons. Another would be forgiveness is the
- 19:42Speaker 2: cornerstone of all healing. Forgiveness meaning again, spiritual forgiveness. What
- 19:49Speaker 2: is it, Well, it's a conscious decision to not carry
- 19:54Speaker 2: the past and to be present in right here, right now.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And I can't tell you how many readings I've done
- 20:04Speaker 2: in which a spirit communicator will come through and apologize
- 20:10Speaker 2: for their behavior, for the way they treated the recipient
- 20:14Speaker 2: of the reading, for you know, being maybe a workaholic,
- 20:20Speaker 2: not spending enough time with the family. And there are
- 20:24Speaker 2: many others. So those are just two of the lessons
- 20:29Speaker 2: that the spirit world has really communicated. Is forgiveness as
- 20:35Speaker 2: in the book, is.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Forgiveness for the forgiven or the forgiver?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Well, I feel it's for both. I once heard someone
- 20:43Speaker 2: say forgiveness is probably the most selfish act that you
- 20:48Speaker 2: will ever do, meaning it is for you. Now. Do
- 20:55Speaker 2: I think that that has no effect on the individual
- 20:59Speaker 2: or individuals who are being forgiven? No, I think it
- 21:04Speaker 2: does have an effect because we are unified at the
- 21:08Speaker 2: spiritual level. So anything that I do and put into
- 21:14Speaker 2: that greater mind of spirit or the collective consciousness will
- 21:19Speaker 2: have a ripple effect. That's what my spirit guides call it,
- 21:22Speaker 2: is the ripple effect, much like throwing a pebble into
- 21:26Speaker 2: a pond and you see those concentric circles go out.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And so that's what our thoughts are like. And so
- 21:37Speaker 2: when we let go of the past, we release ourselves
- 21:42Speaker 2: from that burden. It's often an artificial burden, because you know,
- 21:47Speaker 2: I'm a student of a course in miracles, and of
- 21:50Speaker 2: course in miracles talks about that the assault or affront
- 21:55Speaker 2: or whatever you want to call it, is really an illusion.
- 22:00Speaker 2: And that's hard, I think for us to grasp. But
- 22:04Speaker 2: we always have the power within ourselves, to reinvent ourselves,
- 22:09Speaker 2: to transform ourself and to release the past. And it's
- 22:14Speaker 2: the liberation then of carrying that mental and emotional burden.
- 22:20Speaker 1: My wonderful guest, Carol Obi her new book, The Art

- 23:57Speaker 1: On Destination Unlimited. My guest this week Carol Obly her
- 24:01Speaker 1: new book, The Art of Sensing, A Guide for staying
- 24:05Speaker 1: true to your Soul's journey through challenging times. Carol, what
- 24:09Speaker 1: inspired this new book?
- 24:12Speaker 2: I was inspired to write the Art of Sensing by
- 24:17Speaker 2: observing and actually unfortunately immersing myself in the current of
- 24:26Speaker 2: vision or polarities that are going on, and also the
- 24:34Speaker 2: huge transformative energy that we're all facing at this time,
- 24:42Speaker 2: and I thought, I want to write something so that
- 24:48Speaker 2: people can understand that despite what we're seeing on the outside,
- 24:55Speaker 2: despite the differences in our beliefs, our philosophy, these are
- 25:01Speaker 2: political divisions. All of those are really artificial. They're part
- 25:07Speaker 2: of that outer landscape. What the unifying factor is is
- 25:14Speaker 2: the spirit that each of us has and so I thought,
- 25:19Speaker 2: I want to do something at this critical juncture. And
- 25:25Speaker 2: like all of my books, this came to me very spontaneously.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I absolutely have found that it never works when I
- 25:33Speaker 2: try to rush getting a topic or I try to
- 25:37Speaker 2: make it my way. It has to be inspired in
- 25:40Speaker 2: divine timing and through the higher inspiration of spirit.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Absolutely something I agree with you about one. Let that
- 25:50Speaker 1: spirit flow through and this gives you the truth that
- 25:54Speaker 1: you're looking for.
- 25:56Speaker 2: It does, and you know, when I was writing it,
- 26:01Speaker 2: I had somewhat of a different concept. Of course, my
- 26:05Speaker 2: editor who's very helpful, and she suggested a few things,
- 26:12Speaker 2: but as she always and she said it did all
- 26:15Speaker 2: my books stayed with the truth of the theme of
- 26:20Speaker 2: the book, and how can I find my way through times,
- 26:26Speaker 2: difficult times, whatever that might be it can take. You know,
- 26:30Speaker 2: difficulties can take many different forms. You know, collectively we're
- 26:35Speaker 2: going through a lot of chaos, a lot of change
- 26:39Speaker 2: and transformation, and so I wanted to offer, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 2: this to help people learn how to avoid the pitfalls
- 26:51Speaker 2: of you know, maybe uh the egos vendettas, you know,
- 26:57Speaker 2: with these difficulties that are often so challenging to see
- 27:03Speaker 2: our way through or in the midst of them.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Absolutely. We had mentioned earlier that the book is about
- 27:11Speaker 1: what you call spiritual intuition. You briefly touched upon that,
- 27:16Speaker 1: please go a little deeper into that. What is spiritual intuition.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Spiritual intuition is the whispering of the soul and what
- 27:28Speaker 2: the soul has come here into three D reality on
- 27:33Speaker 2: the physical plane to accomplish. And it's often very different,
- 27:42Speaker 2: and it's a higher perspective, higher meaning not better necessarily,
- 27:48Speaker 2: but a different perspective than the ego's desires or demands
- 27:55Speaker 2: or wishes. The soul has infinite wisdom and actually plans
- 28:06Speaker 2: what it needs to evolve spiritually before coming into the
- 28:10Speaker 2: body of the small infant. So if we are tuned
- 28:15Speaker 2: into that, and that's timeless by the way, time is
- 28:22Speaker 2: simply an artificial construct anyway, The soul is timeless. So
- 28:29Speaker 2: spiritual intuition is a remembrance of whispering from the soul
- 28:35Speaker 2: of what we had planned to do before we even
- 28:38Speaker 2: showed up here.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Why is it important for people to pay attention to
- 28:43Speaker 1: their intuition?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Well, I think basically to avoid suffering, suffering in any form,
- 28:53Speaker 2: and that can take any emotional form it can take
- 28:57Speaker 2: the form of particularly loss. Loss is very compelling as
- 29:04Speaker 2: an opportunity to awaken spiritually. Now because of the faculty
- 29:09Speaker 2: of free will, we can choose to do that, or
- 29:13Speaker 2: we can choose to remain in suffering and so to
- 29:18Speaker 2: avoid that or to lessen it, because I don't think
- 29:23Speaker 2: we really ever escape some form of suffering here on
- 29:26Speaker 2: the earthplane. Following the soul's promptings help alleviate some of
- 29:36Speaker 2: that suffering. And importantly, the soul is always hopeful, and
- 29:45Speaker 2: I think that is something that is desperately needed more
- 29:48Speaker 2: in than midst of turmoil. I think most people need
- 29:54Speaker 2: to know that there is light at the end of
- 29:57Speaker 2: that dark tunnel.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Absolutely. I don't know if I shared this with you
- 30:03Speaker 1: the last time we spoke, but in nineteen seventy five,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I was stationed in Korea, had correspondence with my mother
- 30:13Speaker 1: on a regular basis, but didn't know that anything had
- 30:15Speaker 1: or have any kind of indication that anything was wrong.
- 30:19Speaker 1: And then one morning I heard a voice, the spiritus voice,
- 30:23Speaker 1: the soul voice in my head, saying you need to
- 30:25Speaker 1: call your mother. She needs to hear from you. And
- 30:28Speaker 1: I always listened to that voice that was something I've
- 30:30Speaker 1: been doing since childhood. So consequently I called and in
- 30:33Speaker 1: those days there were extension telephones so that you could
- 30:36Speaker 1: pick up the phone simultaneously in two locations in the house,
- 30:40Speaker 1: and my mother and my sister picked up the phone simultaneously,
- 30:44Speaker 1: and I said, Mom, is there anything wrong? And my
- 30:47Speaker 1: sister goes, oh, my god, how did he find out?
- 30:50Speaker 1: And it turned out that she was scheduled for major
- 30:53Speaker 1: surgery the next day. And the voice told me to
- 30:55Speaker 1: tell her that the surgery would be a complete success,
- 30:58Speaker 1: She'd have a full and rapid recovery. Everything would be fine.
- 31:02Speaker 1: She needed to hear those words from me, and I'm
- 31:04Speaker 1: grateful that that voice came to me.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yes, that is an excellent example of spiritual intuition. Usually,
- 31:15Speaker 2: what I find is that that voice just so listeners
- 31:18Speaker 2: can understand the difference between the voice in the head,
- 31:22Speaker 2: as Ekertolli, this spiritual teacher ecertoally calls it the voice
- 31:28Speaker 2: in the head coming from our rational mind, and the
- 31:32Speaker 2: voice coming from the soul. It's usually the spiritual intuition
- 31:37Speaker 2: is service oriented. It is comforting, and it's hopeful, it's inspiring.
- 31:45Speaker 2: And yes, it just as in your case, it can
- 31:49Speaker 2: be to help someone else. And I bet you that
- 31:54Speaker 2: your mother went in there with that in mind, that you,
- 31:58Speaker 2: as her beloved son, had communicated that to her prior
- 32:02Speaker 2: to her surgery. So that's quite comforting to know. And
- 32:07Speaker 2: I find that with spiritual intuition, that that's really the tone,
- 32:12Speaker 2: if you will, that it.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Takes absolutely and again the fact that time and space
- 32:19Speaker 1: have no barriers with this. She was six thousand miles
- 32:23Speaker 1: away when this occurred, so.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yes, and you're right, it's not has nothing to do
- 32:30Speaker 2: with geography, location, distance, none of that. And I always
- 32:38Speaker 2: you know, like when people say, how can you do readings,
- 32:41Speaker 2: you know, on the telephone, which this is how I
- 32:44Speaker 2: do all my private readings. Now I was on the
- 32:46Speaker 2: phone or through zoom, and it's because I explained to
- 32:51Speaker 2: them I'm reading energy and energy is not confined to
- 32:58Speaker 2: a location or you know, geographical, It has nothing to
- 33:02Speaker 2: do with any of that. So sometimes, yeah, you have
- 33:06Speaker 2: to explain that to people, but it is timeless, and
- 33:11Speaker 2: it is importantly people have to know it's always available.
- 33:15Speaker 2: It's not like you have to beg for it to
- 33:19Speaker 2: happen or you know, sign up. It's always available to us.
- 33:24Speaker 2: And sometimes it comes in very surprising ways. Oftentimes it
- 33:28Speaker 2: will come when we least expect it. I've found that
- 33:30Speaker 2: to be true in my life, that we're guided when
- 33:35Speaker 2: spirit and its infinite intelligence and love knows that we're
- 33:41Speaker 2: ready to receive that particular guidance or message.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Absolutely. As you had mentioned that you've studied and practiced
- 33:49Speaker 1: astrology for many years. In the art of sensing, you
- 33:53Speaker 1: write about the useful information obtained from delving into one's
- 33:58Speaker 1: birth charge share with us how this is helpful.
- 34:02Speaker 2: The birth chart is a map of the soul. It
- 34:06Speaker 2: is a divine, sacred in my opinion, map of the
- 34:11Speaker 2: soul's journey both before coming into the current incarnation, the
- 34:20Speaker 2: potential that the soul has. Why am I using that
- 34:24Speaker 2: word potential because there is always the reality of free will,
- 34:30Speaker 2: the predispositions, the skills, the lessons, the karma of that
- 34:37Speaker 2: unique soul, and each soul is unique. Studying one's own
- 34:43Speaker 2: birth chart gives tremendous insight to understanding oneself at the
- 34:49Speaker 2: deeper level, the soul level, and to then be able
- 34:55Speaker 2: to more easily understand why you know, do I have
- 35:00Speaker 2: this particular difficulty perhaps you know symbolized by the placement
- 35:07Speaker 2: of Saturn, for example, in the chart, Saturn is the teacher,
- 35:11Speaker 2: the taskmaster, the lord of karma. You know why our
- 35:17Speaker 2: relationships difficult, you know, perhaps with the placement of Venus
- 35:23Speaker 2: or the aspects of relationships with other planets to Venus.
- 35:27Speaker 2: All of this is revealed in the birth chart, and
- 35:32Speaker 2: it takes many years, just like mediumship takes many years
- 35:36Speaker 2: to develop and trust astrology is I feel, you know,
- 35:41Speaker 2: even after sixteen years, that I've just scratched the surface
- 35:46Speaker 2: of it. However, I do offer karmic astrology readings to
- 35:51Speaker 2: people who usually remark that it's amazing how accurate they
- 35:58Speaker 2: are and how they shed light on why there's certain patterns,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you know, in their own lives that have arisen during
- 36:06Speaker 2: different times.
- 36:08Speaker 1: In the art of sensing, you talk about soul pods.
- 36:12Speaker 1: What are soul pods?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Pod is another word for a group. The reason I
- 36:19Speaker 2: use the word pod is because I'm very tuned into
- 36:24Speaker 2: all animals, and I thought about dolphins and how they
- 36:30Speaker 2: usually travel in that small, close knit group for protection
- 36:35Speaker 2: and you know, for hunting and all of that. So
- 36:39Speaker 2: soul groups are those souls who we have traveled with
- 36:45Speaker 2: in many lifetimes and actually even in between lifetimes, we
- 36:50Speaker 2: meet up with these sole group members and we're there
- 36:56Speaker 2: to help one another. We're there to learn, learn from
- 37:00Speaker 2: one another, were there to encourage one another. And so
- 37:04Speaker 2: there are various soul groups, each one of them having
- 37:09Speaker 2: and I list some of these in the art of sensing,
- 37:14Speaker 2: each one having a particular theme that perhaps many incarnations
- 37:19Speaker 2: have been spent on emanating that particular theme or what
- 37:25Speaker 2: are also called rays of the divine.
- 37:30Speaker 1: And the concept of the soul pod what you're talking about.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I've recognized, especially over the last four or five years,
- 37:39Speaker 1: that many people that I've had the blessing of meeting,
- 37:42Speaker 1: I immediately recognize them as part of my soul pod,
- 37:45Speaker 1: or I call it soul family. Is there a reason
- 37:47Speaker 1: for this?
- 37:50Speaker 2: Because there is a deep remembrance that is available through
- 37:55Speaker 2: that soul to soul connection. And it's beyond words, it's
- 37:59Speaker 2: beyond mental thoughts, it's beyond personality. It's a soul resonance.
- 38:07Speaker 2: And I've had that happen where you know, you meet
- 38:12Speaker 2: a stranger and all of a sudden, you feel instantly
- 38:16Speaker 2: comfortable with them. You feel as though you can open up,
- 38:19Speaker 2: you feel vulnerable in a good sense that you can
- 38:24Speaker 2: show them who you are and vice versa without any fear.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And I believe that that is a deep remembrance from
- 38:34Speaker 2: being with that soul or souls from previous.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Times and in particularly this concept of coming together at
- 38:42Speaker 1: this time. Is there a higher purpose in that?
- 38:46Speaker 2: Oftentimes yes. In my previous books, I've written about these
- 38:50Speaker 2: soul blueprints, I call them blueprints, meaning there's sort of
- 38:55Speaker 2: a sketch or an outline compared to a contract, which
- 39:02Speaker 2: is binding. More of an outline that you know, we're
- 39:07Speaker 2: going to meet up to work on a particular project.
- 39:11Speaker 2: We're going to meet up for a relationship, could be
- 39:15Speaker 2: a friendship, could be a marriage. We're going to you know,
- 39:20Speaker 2: could be an employer, an employee. We're going to meet
- 39:24Speaker 2: up for a purpose. And that's always a two way street.
- 39:30Speaker 2: You know, there are no victims in any of this,
- 39:32Speaker 2: There are no non consenting souls. It's always an agreement.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Rarely do we consciously remember that, and then sometimes the
- 39:43Speaker 2: evolution of the relationship only becomes evident as we enter
- 39:47Speaker 2: into it and allow it to unfold organically.
- 39:52Speaker 1: You write about spiritual awakening in the individual as central
- 39:57Speaker 1: to the current global transformation. Why is the so.
- 40:02Speaker 2: The individual is a microcosm of the macrocosm, which we
- 40:08Speaker 2: would consider spirit, what some people call God, some people
- 40:14Speaker 2: call it Source. The individual is an intricate and indispensable
- 40:22Speaker 2: part of that. So let's say, let's use the analogy
- 40:26Speaker 2: of a big you know, a thousand piece puzzle, and
- 40:30Speaker 2: each part of that puzzle. The puzzle is not complete
- 40:35Speaker 2: unless each piece is in place. And that's how importance
- 40:41Speaker 2: or essential you are. I am where anyone listening is
- 40:46Speaker 2: to the totality of the bigger source energy. And so
- 40:53Speaker 2: when I transform, when I heal, that is separate from
- 41:02Speaker 2: the totality of source. It becomes part of it. And
- 41:08Speaker 2: that is why its transformation must begin with the individual,
- 41:14Speaker 2: and that can take many different forms, changing our thoughts,
- 41:18Speaker 2: releasing old beliefs, you know, being connected with service, following
- 41:25Speaker 2: our divine voice, or our spiritual intuition. All of that
- 41:31Speaker 2: begins with the individual, and then it goes out or
- 41:37Speaker 2: diffuses to others and ultimately to the entirety of the
- 41:43Speaker 2: source energy.

- 42:34Speaker 6: sifting through information, research and innovations from new thought teachers,
- 42:38Speaker 6: speakers and researchers, pushing back the boundaries of what we
- 42:42Speaker 6: know about life, energy, metaphysics, and the universe. I love
- 42:47Speaker 6: shifting perceptions about who we are, why we're here, and
- 42:50Speaker 6: how quickly impossible becomes normal when we open our minds,
- 42:54Speaker 6: expand our awareness, and accept that the only limits that
- 42:57Speaker 6: exist are those we place upon ourselves. So, if you're

- 43:35Speaker 1: Back on Destination Unlimited. My guests this week, the wonderful
- 43:40Speaker 1: Carol Obi. We're talking about her new book, The Art
- 43:43Speaker 1: of Sensing, a Guide for staying and true to your
- 43:46Speaker 1: soul's journey through challenging times. Carol, what is the primary
- 43:51Speaker 1: difference between the personality and the soul.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Well, we know we all have a personality and that
- 43:59Speaker 2: can rain from you know, being very introverted or you know, quiet,
- 44:05Speaker 2: to being very extroverted, outgoing, being a dared devil. Those
- 44:10Speaker 2: are all examples of personalities that will dissolve when we
- 44:16Speaker 2: leave this physical plane upon death. The soul is eternal,
- 44:22Speaker 2: and so that is really all we take with us,
- 44:27Speaker 2: you know, that is what goes to the spare world,
- 44:30Speaker 2: to heaven as people call it. The personality is temporary,
- 44:35Speaker 2: and it's really it's actually and I know most people
- 44:40Speaker 2: might be, uh someone astonished by this, But the personality
- 44:44Speaker 2: is chosen by the soul to advance its purpose here.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Now does that mean that you know, the soul never
- 44:56Speaker 2: makes mistakes on that. Well, again, there's that element a
- 45:00Speaker 2: free will. It chooses certain personalities in order to maybe
- 45:05Speaker 2: they're difficult personalities. Maybe the soul chooses personality that is,
- 45:12Speaker 2: you know, angry or going to be violent, and so
- 45:18Speaker 2: through you know, a very difficult personality and unfortunately perhaps
- 45:25Speaker 2: even harming others. There's still something that's absorbed there. But
- 45:33Speaker 2: of course there's also karma that is created or cause
- 45:38Speaker 2: an effect that is created by the personality. So the
- 45:43Speaker 2: personality should really be a servant of the soul, not
- 45:50Speaker 2: the other way around. And so the personality can serve
- 45:55Speaker 2: the soul in many different ways depending upon its own
- 46:01Speaker 2: qualities and uniqueness. The difference is that the personality is temporary,
- 46:08Speaker 2: the soul is not.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yes, you write about the importance of differentiating between personal
- 46:15Speaker 1: responsibility and choice, please explain.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Personal choice is something that we all have and we
- 46:27Speaker 2: can do that in myriads of way. We do this
- 46:29Speaker 2: every day. What am I going to eat for dinner.
- 46:32Speaker 2: You know, to have a simple example, you know where
- 46:39Speaker 2: am I going to go on vacation? You know what
- 46:42Speaker 2: am I going to do with my life today? So
- 46:44Speaker 2: that's all choice. Personal responsibility is the implications of those choices.
- 46:54Speaker 2: So if I make a choice to uplift somebody with
- 47:00Speaker 2: kindness with an act of service, my personal responsibility is
- 47:07Speaker 2: I will receive. That's not why I do it, perhaps,
- 47:11Speaker 2: but personal responsibility, which is always in effect by the way,
- 47:16Speaker 2: dictates that that will come back to me. That will
- 47:19Speaker 2: return to me. I am personally responsible for the choices
- 47:23Speaker 2: that I make, and the opposite can be is true
- 47:27Speaker 2: as well. I make a choice to steal, I'm personally
- 47:32Speaker 2: responsible for that choice that I made, and the Creator
- 47:38Speaker 2: does not say no, no, you can't do that. The
- 47:43Speaker 2: gift that we all have by birthright is free will.
- 47:47Speaker 2: I know certain people don't believe in that. I happen
- 47:50Speaker 2: to definitely know that it is a reality, and I
- 47:56Speaker 2: definitely know through years of mediumship that we are responsible
- 48:02Speaker 2: for every single choice that we make in life. I've
- 48:06Speaker 2: had many spirits come through and offer apologies for the
- 48:10Speaker 2: choices that they made during their fiscal life.
- 48:16Speaker 1: And please describe the difference in perspective between the two
- 48:20Speaker 1: as you describe them as inner and outer landscapes.
- 48:26Speaker 2: The inner landscape is, in its purest form, the soul,
- 48:33Speaker 2: which no matter where you go, what you do, you
- 48:37Speaker 2: drop this body, your body dies. That soul is intact.
- 48:42Speaker 2: That's the inner landscape. The outer landscape is anything external
- 48:49Speaker 2: to that, and that would include the body, that would
- 48:53Speaker 2: include the personality, that would include the emotions. And I
- 48:58Speaker 2: know a lot of people perceive those well they're generating
- 49:01Speaker 2: from within me, but they're not truly the essence of
- 49:07Speaker 2: the individual, which is the soul. And everything on the
- 49:12Speaker 2: fiscal plane is temporary. Everything at some point, some sooner
- 49:19Speaker 2: than others, will deteriorate and crumble or die. The inner
- 49:26Speaker 2: landscape will never die. And that's the fundamental difference.
- 49:31Speaker 1: You've referenced the experience of dark nights in this book.
- 49:36Speaker 1: What are these and how may we successfully navigate them?
- 49:41Speaker 2: Well, the dark Knight was first put out by Saint
- 49:44Speaker 2: John of the Cross many many centuries ago. He didn't
- 49:48Speaker 2: actually call it that, but he was in the midst
- 49:53Speaker 2: of a very trying time where he felt God had
- 49:59Speaker 2: abandoned him. He's a very religious man, and he felt
- 50:05Speaker 2: that he was suddenly by whatever circumstances had happened, whether
- 50:10Speaker 2: it was the depression or you know, external events in
- 50:14Speaker 2: his life, he perceived that he was alone and he
- 50:18Speaker 2: was abandoned by God and why and what is the
- 50:21Speaker 2: meaning of my life? And so that's the dark knight
- 50:25Speaker 2: when we feel very alone, we feel no one cares,
- 50:28Speaker 2: we feel that even spirit itself has deserted us. And
- 50:35Speaker 2: most of us will experience a dark knight. You know,
- 50:40Speaker 2: rare is the person who has not gone through a
- 50:44Speaker 2: time in their life. I'm sure there are some people
- 50:48Speaker 2: who haven't. But even if we look at the life
- 50:52Speaker 2: of Jesus, he had dark knights, you know, where he
- 50:59Speaker 2: felt that, you know, you know, do I have to
- 51:02Speaker 2: go through with the crucifixion? And God, why have you
- 51:06Speaker 2: abandoned me? My father? So most of us will experience that.
- 51:13Speaker 2: And the important thing to know when we're going through
- 51:16Speaker 2: that is that it's an experience that we're having. It's
- 51:24Speaker 2: not the reality of who we are. It's an experience,
- 51:28Speaker 2: even though it's difficult, challenging and there's a lot of
- 51:31Speaker 2: suffering involved. Perhaps it's not the definition or the reality
- 51:39Speaker 2: of who we are as a divine.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Being and how may the art of sensing help those
- 51:45Speaker 1: who are grieving?
- 51:49Speaker 2: And I do use the example from many years of
- 51:53Speaker 2: mediumship of people suffering a loss of a loved one
- 51:58Speaker 2: by knowing that, first off, that that loved one is
- 52:03Speaker 2: an eternal soul, and that they go on their consciousness
- 52:07Speaker 2: the essential identity of that deceased loved one is not gone,
- 52:16Speaker 2: that the connection is intact. And secondly, knowing that that
- 52:22Speaker 2: difficult time of grieving, that there is light at the
- 52:25Speaker 2: end of the tunnel. There is hope in knowing that
- 52:30Speaker 2: your true identity is that of an immortal soul. And
- 52:35Speaker 2: I think it's very comforting for people to realize that,
- 52:39Speaker 2: and I don't mean realize it intellectually, but know it
- 52:44Speaker 2: within their heart. And that gives great comfort in knowing
- 52:53Speaker 2: that in your heart that we will meet again, That
- 52:59Speaker 2: there really is not a separation between those in spirit
- 53:02Speaker 2: and those of us here. The spirit world is right
- 53:06Speaker 2: here all around us. It's a matter of tuning into it.
- 53:10Speaker 2: I feel that is very, very comforting. And to know
- 53:14Speaker 2: that your soul is speaking to you, whispering to you
- 53:17Speaker 2: and saying this is really not the end. Death is
- 53:21Speaker 2: an illusion.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, what would you like your readers to take away
- 53:26Speaker 1: from the Art of Sensing.
- 53:31Speaker 2: The knowledge that anything that happens here and again, using
- 53:35Speaker 2: the word knowledge, I'm using that not in the terms
- 53:38Speaker 2: of intellectual knowledge of facts, but knowing within the depths
- 53:43Speaker 2: of yourself that you are divine being who always has
- 53:50Speaker 2: the opportunity to transform, to reinvent yourself. You are the
- 53:57Speaker 2: phoenix rising from the ashes, whatever those whatever form those
- 54:01Speaker 2: ashes might have taken in your life, and to cross
- 54:07Speaker 2: the bridge of transformation. There's a whole chapter called the Bridge,
- 54:15Speaker 2: and that bridge is metaphoric in representing the bridge of transformation,
- 54:20Speaker 2: meaning change, and it's spiritual change, these deep, profound changes
- 54:27Speaker 2: that hopefully we go through during our physical journey.
