- Molly: Hello and welcome to Bona and Mira Tarot, the delightfully irresponsible little sibling of Bona and Mira Tarot. My name is Molly and every week three Tarot cards will end this podcast. One gets fucked, one gets married and one gets pushed off a cliff. It's childish, it is completely subjective and it is surprisingly revealing because if you know me and you know Bona and Mira Tarot, you'll know that I don't believe the Tarot is about predicting the future. It's a mirror. a way of meeting yourself through symbolism and psychology, embodiment and the wisdom of the cards. And Bona Emeritaro takes exactly the same approach, just with a lot more giggling. put three tarot archetypes through the highly scientific and deeply philosophical game of fuck, marry, push off a cliff. Which archetype deserves your undying devotion? Which one's worth a passionate fling and which one absolutely needs to get into the sea? Along the way, we'll explore what the cards reveal about attraction, avoidance, projection, shadow, values, and the wonderfully strange ways we make meaning. Expect depth psychology, archetypes, embodiments, the odd tantric tangents, and plenty of opportunities to laugh at yourself. And if you want to take the game off the podcast and into your own tarot practice, then I've made something for you. A little field guide called Tarot After Dark. It's packed with ridiculous tarot games, guided reflections, explorations of projection and desire. So you can make your own terrible decisions. and then get curious about what the hell that might reveal about you. you can grab it completely free through the link in my show notes or the link in my bio on Instagram. So whether you're here for the psychology, the Tarot or your own deeply irrational grudge against the Seven of Cups, welcome to Bona and Miratorro. Let's shuffle the cards, suspend our dignity, and see who's getting married today. Hello friends and welcome back to another episode of Bona and Mira Tarot. I am absolutely delighted to be joined today by Orla from Stella Esoterica. We are very excited to make some maybe rational and irrational decisions on behalf of the Tarot. So welcome to you Orla. I'd love you to introduce yourself, tell the listeners what it is that you do, your relationship to Tarot and how it is that you make meaning. Stella Esoterica: Hello Molly, thank you so much for having me. yeah, so I'm a tarot reader and an astrologer and I've been reading tarot probably like six years in a focused way. I really consider both my astrology and my tarot to be divinatory in nature. I find my tarot really informs the astrology that I do. and yeah, the tarot has always just spoken to me as a very because it's such a visual medium. the I find the symbols so expansive in the way that they can communicate. I studied English in university and I love art and any sort of like creative poetic mediums. but I also have a Pisces Delium, including Mercury and Pisces. So the tarot for me is I don't know, it like it it skips the places where I get stuck and it like sneaks in under and you You find messages in ways you didn't expect them, which is always what I found. It's I find it playful, and and really profound. So I'm really excited for the the playful side of this premise today. I'm really excited to see what comes up. Molly: Thank you so much. I love what you said about like how it sneaks under. What a beautiful way to describe like how I would describe it is, you know, we're we're accessing intelligence and wisdom in a non cognis centric way, which you know most Stella Esoterica: Hold me. Molly: of society and culture, it's very like heady and systems like tarot really bypass that that tendency to want to analyse with the thinking mind. But I just love Stella Esoterica: Well. Molly: the way that you said it sneaks under. What a gorgeous, Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: like, I'm imagining like a little tarot card just like trying to, trying to bypass the mind, like, no, not gonna get one. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. And you're like, I've I've got this bit all walled off. I know that this bit is like secure. So I'm gonna ask about this bit of my life. And before you know it, the tarot is like unraveling this bit, you know, and it's like, you thought you're you felt secure about that, but what about this other this other side of it that you hadn't been thinking about? There's and I think the more you let it in as well, the more creative and the more not confrontational, but just opening, you know, that that Molly: you Stella Esoterica: the the tarot has such a capacity. I mean, I think it's Marie-Louise von France, it's it's a type of chaos divination. You know, it's like the chaos Molly: Yeah. Stella Esoterica: of the cards of the shuffling, mean it's a hundred percent random. But then the connections, they do bring you into connection, like that feeling, like you said, of like a a higher consciousness of a collective archetypal field. that yeah, I find I find really, really meaningful. Molly: Mm, me too. And you talked about like how sometimes you might ask a question or you think that you know what a tarot reading is going to give. I find that my tarot deck just just categorically does not listen to me. And I love her for Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: that because she's just like, no, no, actually, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to talk about this. I'm like, OK, OK, I see where you're coming from. Yeah. And Stella Esoterica: Yeah, yeah. Molly: it is I did a little Google last night based on, know, like how many episodes could I realistically do? based on the combinations and apparently with 78 Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: cards and three choices there are 78,000 combinations that are possible. Stella Esoterica: And that's not counting reversals. Molly: There's not counting reversals. more than that, more than that, it will Stella Esoterica: 'Cause that's a hundred and fifty six cards, you know? Yeah. Molly: be like an astronomical number of episodes that I could record. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Yeah. Molly: So very excited for episode number 78,000. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: come back in, I don't know, like 20 years. But yes, should we get into it? Stella Esoterica: Yeah, I'm so excited. Molly: Awesome. So this is the part where I do the awkward silent shuffle. I'm using Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: my deck that I use most of the time, which is the Light Seers by Chris Ann, which has a lot of wider rate. Wow, right away imaging. But let's see what we've got. okay, interesting, interesting, interesting. So we have got the Ace of Swords. Stella Esoterica: Whoa. Molly: the Stella Esoterica: What was that we were saying about the thinking mind? Molly: yeah right i always laugh at my ace of swords i'm just gonna do a slight tangent here because my ace of swords you won't be able to see it on the camera but it has a crease in it like like it's been folded in half and that's because one time a couple of years ago apparently my ace of swords just lived in the side of my sofa for like months and i did not realize Stella Esoterica: Wow. Molly: that this had happened So I've just been going about my day, like pulling from my deck, never once thinking, where's Stella Esoterica: Wow. Molly: my Ace of Swords? And then I was cleaning and found my Ace of Swords. So every time I shuffle and I see that little crease, I'm like, I know which card's coming out, Ace of Swords, hello. We've got the Six of Cups. Stella Esoterica: Wow, interesting. Molly: And then we've got the six of swords. Stella Esoterica: Wow, okay. Molly: Okay, okay, so we've got two sixes. We've got the six of swords, the six of cups, Stella Esoterica: Mm-hmm. Molly: and the ace of swords. Now, my Stella Esoterica: Mm-hmm. Molly: initial question always is, what is your immediate reaction to those three? Stella Esoterica: okay well with the ace of swords, I mean I I love the aces. I love the clarity, I love the just the divine nature, you know, that like all of the pips are bringing us right down into the mundane, but the aces are like that transition down, you know, that divine gift thing. initial reaction to the Six of Cups is like, It's such a happy card. It's not one I ever really pull, I feel like. yeah, and the Six of Swords. Like that card. I mean it has a melancholy to it, you know. But yeah. It's funny, I was I guess I was like wondering would any court cards come up? You know, because they're the the most easy to personify, and I guess the the majors as well, a lot of them. so I'm really intrigued that we've gotten all minors. Yeah. Molly: Mm hmm. Yeah. I'm going to tell you my initial like I'm initially drawn to the Six of Cups as like a starting point. Probably Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Yeah. Molly: because I what am I thinking? So the Six of Cups for me is about and I'm going to bring in a tantric term because that's the philosophy that I I kind of think of in the edge that Stella Esoterica: Mm. Yeah. Molly: I follow. And so there's a tantric term or a Sanskrit word, which is Samskara. and samskara literally means energetic print. And so a samskara refers to if there's a point in your life, early childhood where you experience something which is like unmanageable emotionally, let's say like you don't have the tools to be able to fully process it, then it ends up being or ends up imprinting on your energetic body. And so what happens is like when our present like I'm imagining like waves on a beach, right? Like when our present washes over us, if it is similar to the experience that we had before, earlier in childhood, teenage hood, if it has like a pattern, then we will experience what's happening in the present from the perspective of that energetic imprint. And I say that all to mean like samskaras kind of are triggers, right? But just in a Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Yeah. Molly: much more beautiful way of explaining it. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: And so when I see the Six of Cups, it really invites me into a place of like where I'm really looking at what parts of my past influence how I perceive the now. And I don't think I'm the only one to really in the kind of mid 20s to 30s really like work on and analyze what Stella Esoterica: Mm. Molly: is like, what's happened to me that makes me, you know. look at things in a certain way, i.e. going back into the inner child, looking at the ways in which I navigate the world through the lens of the child. And so the Six of Cups for me is this really clear, like, hmm, I'm going to pull you back into that space and pull Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: you into looking at what it is that you are, or where you're navigating from. And so I suppose for me, the Six of Cups might be a potential marriage. And I... Stella Esoterica: Interesting. Molly: And I say that because I think someone that I would want to marry would be somebody that allows me to express from that place of a trigger, from the place of samskara, and also supports me in going back into that space and healing that space. Like ultimately I would like to marry someone that helps me heal my inner child. Stella Esoterica: Yeah, that's a really beautiful way of framing it. and it's so funny because I'm I'm thinking Six of Cups might be my push on the cliff. So so Molly: no, okay, tell me, tell me. Stella Esoterica: I completely agree with you and I I really love that framing of the Six of Cups, especially coming after the four and the five of like we do need to go back and you know going back is also you know, it's where the pain lies and it's also where a lot of the it's making me think the way you're talking even of, you know, the whole Joseph Campbell follow your bliss, that it's like you go back to childhood. What were you doing in childhood that brought you like that unparalleled joy? But maybe then because it regresses to the seven, I feel like the six is somewhere you go and then you have to leave again. to like to bring it forward. and you know maybe it is Like you said, like I I feel like I've done quite a bit of that in my twenties and I don't know, maybe I'm like completely outing myself here, but I find the the fear of like dwelling or or getting lost in romanticizing the past or yeah, you know, the contrast. It's it's interesting as well because it's like cups and swords, you know, the thinking, feeling, contrast. the six of swords, I think also has that kind of baggage energy. but there's a moving forward with it, trying to head to a new shore with it. And yes, they're you know, they're carrying the swords, the swords are in the boat with them. but there's a there's a movement there that appeals to me. and and for me anyway, with this game, push off a cliff very often is just like, which is the least one that I want to keep, you know? And yeah. Yeah, I don't know what what do you think about that that reading of the Six of Cups? Molly: I really love the way that you described that kind of movement in the Six of Swords. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: Because for me, Six of Swords, like the Sixes tend to be transitional, right? Like they're Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: moving from, I tend to say that the ace to the, everyone lives the ace to the five, but there has to be a conscious choice to move from the six onwards. Like this is now where you're actually aware of. of what you're doing. then the six of swords is that active choice to move into that transitional space where mind made story is there, it's baggage, but it's not, it's not sinking the boat. It's, it's Stella Esoterica: No, exactly. Molly: not pulling you down into, you know, the depths of unconscious or the depths of, of, know, sadness, let's say, is actually the, the swords are there. They're coming with you. They're acting as luggage, but, but they, but you remain the passenger. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Yeah. Molly: And that might be the first time that I've ever expressed it that way, because I'm just kind of like going off what you said. That was really, really beautiful. And so I'm still feeling pretty like sad that you're going to push the six of cups off a cliff. But I totally hear you and really love Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: that reframing. So would you then marry the six of swords? Stella Esoterica: No, see again because because it's that transitional thing, I think shagging the six of swords would be one of those like it was we were ships in the night, but I learned so much from that person, you know, those like we were never meant to be long term together, but yeah, I think, you know, this is something that like Mariana Persephone's sister spoke about in her archetypal tarot course, but the the storyline of the minor arcana Pentacles and Cups. the the night consciousness, the feminine or yin cards have a much more happy ending than the masculine yang swords and wands. And so whenever I'm getting into kind of the second half of the swords and wands, I'm thinking like, okay, this is the storyline. And I I love the framing that it's like these cards were channeled, created, whatever, at the start of the 20th century. They really do speak to a zeitgeist where the masculine is profoundly wounded. So there's something to me about like six, seven, eight, especially where it's like, hey, this is where you're heading. And how do you want to consciously engage with that, redirect it, focus it in a new light? So like you're saying with that that swords baggage, it's like, it's the thinking function, it's the rational mind. It's like, how do we rewrite this? How do we rewire this? It's making me think of like neuroplasticity and the like Okay, this is the story, but could it go another way? So it feels again like a it's not something that I would need to keep with me forever, but it it has a charge and it has a, you know, those those moments that you look back on and you're like, that was a fork in the road moment. Molly: Hmm. thank you so much for bringing so much depth and wisdom into that. Like thank you for bringing Mariana in. Thank you for bringing Joseph Campbell in. like Stella Esoterica: Away. Molly: what a beautiful plethora of people that we have to to learn from. And I really love that you mentioned how Mariana frames the cups and swords and the kind of masculine and feminine suits. And I always do wonder, you know, like if we weren't living in a patriarchal society Stella Esoterica: Mm-hmm. Molly: where the masculine is wounded, how would the swords and wands end? Specifically the swords, I think, because we're so cogniscentric and there's so much emphasis placed on the value of the rational mind, Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: which, you know, and the swords often show us the wonderful ways in which our mind can harm us when we put too much emphasis on that. Like, what would the end of of those suits look Stella Esoterica: Thank God. Molly: like. I think that we maybe can't know, maybe in a hundred, 200 years time, hopefully the tarot will Stella Esoterica: Link. Molly: be rewritten. So I'm Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: hearing that you're gonna push the Six of Cups off the cliff. And I make a sad face as we do that. Stella Esoterica: With love. With love. Molly: With so much love, maybe there's, yeah. Stella Esoterica: Four one out with six of cups, you know. Molly: And the Six of Swords, you're gonna... have a wild night with and then say Stella Esoterica: Mm-hmm. Molly: goodbye. So that means you're marrying the ace of swords. Tell Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: me what about the ace of swords do you think is that kind of marriage quality? Stella Esoterica: I think bringing it back to my astrology for a second in terms of elements, I have like nothing in air except my Gemini ascendant. I'm all earth and water. So in terms of the, you know, that the Jungian idea of compensation, I think I'm very drawn to the intellectual and the rational as a way to like anchor myself or to find some clarity. that is not always a pleasant disposition. It can be Like we said, the the swords, the overthinking and stuff can be harmful. But there's something about the aces that's so pure and simple, you know, and it's like first principles kind of. And so the first principles with swords is truth and integrity. And again, I love the, you know, bringing in kind of a mythology bent of like if that sword is Excalibur, it's speaking to sovereignty and the like. when I know what's right, when I'm in that like truth space, you know, my boundaries are clear, my relationships to others are healthier, my responsibilities to them are clear. I think it has, you know, going back to that, like what would the swords and wands look like in a healthier, less patriarchal society? ironically, I do think it's like it's within the swords and wands capacity to imagine that future, you know, if if wands are the vision, And swords are the execution of that vision. there's something about the ace of swords that I think has the capacity to yeah, to to bring a clarity and a vision that I would love, I would love to wet and spend the rest of my life knowing and being with. Molly: Gosh, you're very convincing. What a convincing argument. I love that. I love that you bring the Excalibur in as well. That element of sovereignty and self sovereignty. know, like the Ace of Swords doesn't give us the sovereignty over the British Isles. It gives us sovereignty over ourselves and our boundaries. Stella Esoterica: No. Yeah. Molly: so I'm going to change my mind slightly only because of your beautiful interpretation of Stella Esoterica: Love to hear it. Molly: the Ace of Swords. So I'm going to say that I would also marry the Ace of Swords but I'm going to spend a wild night with the six of cups and Stella Esoterica: I respect that. Molly: I'm gonna push the six of swords off the cliff. And I'll tell you why I've changed my mind. We're open to changing our mind here on this podcast. We're not fixed. The six of cups. So I spoke about how I'd want to marry it because I want someone that's kind of healing of that inner child. In areas of my life, where do I need the most healing? Probably intimacy. And... we get vulnerable on the podcast as well. So like, I know that a lot of kind of my not enough, not enoughness, my not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not all of these really is, is kind of shows up in intimacy. I have, can find it really difficult to get out of my head because I'm thinking, my God, like, what do they think I look like? What, what, you know, am I pretty enough? Does this angle look nice? Like so much story. around intimacy and so then whilst that decision between the ace of swords and the six of cups who to marry I'm you know I'm feeling pretty convinced on the ace of swords I think that the six of cups would maybe give me a wonderfully tender evening and also potentially be quite healing for that you know like they would be the person who's just like you know you're so beautiful as you are Stella Esoterica: Yeah. But the flowers, the gift of that like Molly: and I'm just getting the gits. Stella Esoterica: that beauty in the moment sort of like right here, right now is pleasure and connection. Yeah. It's it is a beautiful card. Molly: It wouldn't be wild. I don't think it would be wild. I think it would be very tender. Super tender. got like a little flutter. Stella Esoterica: it would be very tender. I don't think the six of swords, I think they they could not be more diametrically opposed in terms of like that one night and how it shapes you going forward. Molly: What do you think a Six of Swords One Night Stand would look like? Sound like? Stella Esoterica: I think the six of swords would introduce you to sides of yourself that you didn't know existed. You know, that like you're like, I never thought I would do that. And not with a one night stand, but my god. Like it's it's outside your comfort zone. I mean, I think that's so much of what's in the six, is like you need to move beyond. Molly: Mmm. Stella Esoterica: you know, that that further shore is so evocative to me in that image, you know. Molly: Yeah, I think as well, like, but they would also be able to hold really good boundaries and consent, obviously. But like that that Stella Esoterica: mask, yeah. Molly: that that image of the ship to me is like, yes, we're moving beyond into things maybe that you've never tried before. But also in a really quite contained space, like they're not going to let you drown into that that abyss. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hundred percent. Yeah. Molly: Okay, so we're almost in alignment. We're marrying the ace of swords in a beautifully clear and sovereign marriage. You're going to fuck the six of swords and push the six of cups off the cliff. Bye bye splash sad times. And I'm going to do it the other way around. You're going to Stella Esoterica: Uh-huh. Molly: have an absolutely wild night and probably never speak to the six of swords again. Stella Esoterica: I think we would both agree. I think it'd be one of those Molly: Bye. Stella Esoterica: like, you know, it's like we're not exchanging numbers. We we ne we got what we needed from one another and blessings on your journey, you know. Molly: Yeah, yeah, please don't follow me on Instagram. Like, I will not accept. And I'm going to have a tender, loving, healing evening with the Six of Cups. So much aftercare, it's gonna be so tender. And Stella Esoterica: yeah. And there's you know, there's gonna be French toast the next morning. There's gonna be so much aftercare. Yeah. Molly: I think that that would be very, very healing for my own relationship with intimacy. Well, we've made our decisions. So you have two more questions left that I'm going to ask Stella Esoterica: Mm-hmm. Okay. Molly: you that I'm asking everybody on the podcast. The two questions are out of the entire tarot deck, who would be the best lover and who is the biggest walking red flag? Stella Esoterica: Okay, well it has to be the Empress, just like straight away. Is that I don't know. To me, she's just, you know, she's literally Venus embodied. You know, she's so aware of pleasure, sensuality, and the generative nature of of life itself. yeah, no, it has to be the Empress. A Swalking Red Flag. I mean, within the context of the tarot day. Within the context of life, like The Emperor, the Hierophant, that's those are like such vlog standard answers, I feel. Molly: No, no, that's what you think. It's really interesting. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: I love the Empress. The last episode I recorded we had the Queen of Wands as like an immediate good lover. And I'm like, yeah, hell yeah. She's intimidating. She's a dom. Yeah. Stella Esoterica: yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. In the in the best. She's such a dom. Yeah. She's she's sort of femme dom in body, isn't she? Yeah. Molly: Mm-hmm. I think that I really love that, like, the quickness with which you said the Empress, just, so certain that she is, Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: you know, like, giving pleasure, enjoyment. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: And are you going Emperor or Hierophant? Stella Esoterica: I don't know that it's it's interesting because I like I am a big believer in reclaiming those energies as well. I know a lot of people are like, I hate when that comes up, like my back goes up, I can't engage with that card. And I think, you know, in terms of like our inner parts, those cards have really meaningful things to teach us. so like kind of going back to the court cards, the king of swords is probably like a lower he's on the same page as the emperor I think but I think being both swords and the king you know if you're looking at it like with yin yang and maturity and everything I think he has the most likelihood to be cut off from empathy and from compassion Molly: Mmm. Stella Esoterica: which I do find to be a walking red flag also the knight of wands Molly: Fuck boy. Stella Esoterica: yeah and kind of, you know, like would run away with the night and just be so convinced he did an amazing job. You know, those guys who were like, you're welcome and it's like, nothing happened here. No. No. no. Molly: Mmm. Yeah, nothing is going on downstairs. Yeah, like, did you come yet? No, no, I didn't. Stella Esoterica: No. but he's finished. Yeah. Yeah. Molly: He's done. He's finished. He's on the horse and he's on his way out. You're welcome. Bye bye. Okay. Stella Esoterica: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I might have to go with the Knight of Swans actually. yeah. Molly: For those seasoned listeners to the podcast will know that my answer to this question is the Knight of Cups. Stella Esoterica: that's also so fair. Kind of all of the knights have a it's it's I think Molly: Fuckboy energy. Stella Esoterica: it's the youth combined with the sort of the certainty, you know, that like the Knight of Cups thinks he is Romeo. Molly: And this, I'm glad you agree with me because I find that the Knight of Wands and the Knight of Cups are both fuckboys, but the Knight of Wands knows it. He knows, he knows Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Yeah. Molly: he's a fuckboy. The Knight of Cups genuinely thinks like he is it and Stella Esoterica: Yeah. Molly: thinks he's like super emotionally intelligent, but it crumbles under pressure. Stella Esoterica: Yeah. no, he's the Knight of Cups has real male feminist energy. You know, the kind of like I I've I've read Bell Hooks, so I am automatically I've done my homework. It's like, well you haven't. Molly: He's done two sessions of therapy and thinks that's is what it's giving. So that's mine, but I'm sure Stella Esoterica: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Molly: the listeners know by now my... I must emphasise that I don't hate The Night of Cups. I love The of Cups as a card. Stella Esoterica: Yeah, the Knight of Cups has been coming up for me lately. And I think in his in his positive manifestations, you know, he's like he has a Molly: He's gorgeous. Stella Esoterica: a passion. He has a he's been led by love. It's just Molly: Yes. Stella Esoterica: that can devolve into love of the self. yeah. Molly: Exactly. And I think when we talk about like biggest walking red flags in the terror, we are often looking at their reversals. So that Stella Esoterica: Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Molly: is my answer. And it hasn't changed yet. We'll see what happens throughout the podcast as the episodes develop. I'm gonna say just such a massive thank you to you. This conversation has been so, so insightful. And I'm deeply grateful that you brought so many wonderful. Theorists that you brought in, Mariana, who I believe we're both ex-students of. So Stella Esoterica: Yes, yeah, yeah. Molly: I'm, yeah, so grateful for all of your insights and all of your wisdom. And I'm gonna end the episode here. I'm gonna bid our listeners a farewell, say a final thank you to you. You Stella Esoterica: Thank you so much, Molly. Thank you. Molly: are so welcome and I hope you enjoyed the episode. And if you did, of course, do all the fun things like share and like and comment and also go and follow all up. So a big thank you and goodbye. And that is a wrap for this episode of Bona and Mira Tarot.
