- 0:42Speaker 4: On a Monday. We are packed out today.
- 0:44Speaker 2: The Sports of the Program brought to by Central Texas
- 0:47Speaker 2: Sports Medicine. Coming up here from Mike Elko. Today, we're
- 0:52Speaker 2: gonna hear from Ryan Day. We're going to hear from
- 0:57Speaker 2: actor Jimmy Hawkins.
- 1:02Speaker 4: You don't know.
- 1:03Speaker 2: The actor's name unless you're a film nerd, but he
- 1:09Speaker 2: played George Bailey's youngest son, Tommy, and it's a wonderful life.
- 1:16Speaker 2: He has a new book out. We're going to visit
- 1:18Speaker 2: with him coming up, and in the second hour we've
- 1:21Speaker 2: got the Writer's round Table. We have a special guest
- 1:23Speaker 2: for the Writer's round Table today. Alex Miller will be
- 1:29Speaker 2: filling in for Rusty person Cease will be here as well.
- 1:36Speaker 2: A and I'm getting ready for their first ever college
- 1:38Speaker 2: football playoff. They will host Miami a week from Saturday
- 1:42Speaker 2: morning at eleven am. Meanwhile, it was announced today on
- 1:47Speaker 2: RG three's podcast Out of Pocket Marcel Reid saying he
- 1:51Speaker 2: will be coming back to Texas A and M this
- 1:55Speaker 2: next season. Mike Elko has been named a finalist for
- 1:59Speaker 2: the George Munger Coach of the Year Award given by
- 2:03Speaker 2: the Maxwell Club, along with Kurt Signetti of Indiana, Joey
- 2:09Speaker 2: McGuire of Texas Tech at Clark Lee at Vanderbilt. Oh,
- 2:14Speaker 2: that's a pretty good list of coaches. Notre Dame Athletic
- 2:18Speaker 2: director Pete Bavakua has unloaded on that acc in the
- 2:22Speaker 2: wake of the Irish getting snubbed, saying that the way
- 2:26Speaker 2: they went about things on Notre Dame's behalf has caused
- 2:30Speaker 2: permanent damage in the relationship. The ACC has since replied, Hey,
- 2:39Speaker 2: Notre Dames, the one that lost two games. No, that's
- 2:42Speaker 2: not what they really said. Notre Dame decided they didn't
- 2:45Speaker 2: want to go to the pop Tarts ball or wherever
- 2:48Speaker 2: they were going to play, which I kind of like
- 2:51Speaker 2: because that takes money out.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Of ESPN's pocket.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Tulane has turned to a familiar face for its football program,
- 2:59Speaker 2: replacing on some raw Who's gone to Florida. They have
- 3:02Speaker 2: hired assistant will Haul. Official announcement later in the week.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Hall was the passing game coordinator for Tulane after previously
- 3:17Speaker 2: working under former coach Willie Fritz. The Aggie basketball team
- 3:22Speaker 2: will have a week off to think about blowing a
- 3:25Speaker 2: four point lead in the last forty seconds against SMU
- 3:29Speaker 2: and Arlington last night. How long did this game take?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Two hours and thirty six minutes. It seemed like four
- 3:39Speaker 2: hours in thirty six minutes.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Why, well, there were fifty foul calls.
- 3:46Speaker 2: There were sixty two free throws attempted sixty two. Unfortunately,
- 3:54Speaker 2: A and M missed twelve free throws, which would have
- 3:56Speaker 2: been the difference of the game. They also coughed up
- 3:59Speaker 2: the ball sixteen times, which wasn't good. SMU gets to
- 4:03Speaker 2: win ninety three to eighty. The Aggie's now seven to three.
- 4:07Speaker 2: They will host I think Jacksonville State next Sunday at
- 4:14Speaker 2: six o'clock. Only one game. Tonight, Texas is hosting Southard, Oh.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I can't wait for that one.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And tomorrow night Florida and Yukon and the Jimmy V
- 4:28Speaker 2: Classic that's at eight o'clock at Madison Square Garden. Alabama
- 4:33Speaker 2: guard LeBaron Philon Junior was the player of the week,
- 4:37Speaker 2: averaging twenty four and a half points a game. Arkansas
- 4:40Speaker 2: guard Darius A. Cuff is the Freshman of the week,
- 4:44Speaker 2: the average seventeen and a half points a game. Arizona
- 4:48Speaker 2: is the new number one team in college basketball. Michigan
- 4:53Speaker 2: is two, Duke is three, Iowa State has jumped up
- 4:57Speaker 2: to four, then Yukon perdu Houston, Gonzaga, Michigan State, and BYU.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Alabama is twelve, Vanderbilt is fifteen, Texas Tech is sixteen,
- 5:12Speaker 2: Arkansas seventeen, Florida eighteen, Tennessee is twenty, Auburn is twenty one.
- 5:21Speaker 2: SMU jumped into the old others receiving votes category. Let's
- 5:27Speaker 2: see College Baseball Hall of Fame. The Veterans Committee voted
- 5:34Speaker 2: Jeff Kent in seventeen years after his final game.
- 5:39Speaker 4: He'll be inducted July twenty sixth.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Along with any other player that may be chosen by
- 5:46Speaker 2: the Baseball Writers' Association, whose balloting will be announced on
- 5:51Speaker 2: January the twentyth That's great for Jeff Kent. I'm still
- 5:57Speaker 2: wondering why Dale Murphy is not in the Baseball Hall
- 6:03Speaker 2: of Fame. Just so you'll know, for a decade he
- 6:07Speaker 2: was one of the five best players in the game
- 6:09Speaker 2: with bad teams, two times MVP, the second most RBI
- 6:14Speaker 2: during that ten year span. Dale Murphy should be in
- 6:18Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame. And we want to send our
- 6:22Speaker 2: condolences out to the Hicks family and the death of
- 6:25Speaker 2: Thomas Hicks, who died Saturday at the age of seventy nine.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Thomas Hicks purchased the Dallas Stars the year after they
- 6:34Speaker 2: arrived from Minneapolis won a Stanley Cup in nineteen ninety nine.
- 6:39Speaker 2: He bought the Texas Rangers, had to sell the year
- 6:46Speaker 2: before the Rangers went to back to Backworld Series, although
- 6:51Speaker 2: he helped put together the team that led the Rangers
- 6:55Speaker 2: to that spot.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Thomas six was seventy nine and again condolences to the family.
- 7:07Speaker 2: All right, coming up, we're gonna give away our final
- 7:12Speaker 2: weekly award and Fridday's Fearless Football Forecast contest. We're gonna
- 7:18Speaker 2: tell you what's ahead for Fridday's Fearless Football Forecast contests
- 7:23Speaker 2: a little different this year.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I will tell you.
- 7:29Speaker 2: We will tell you tomorrow the winner of the year
- 7:35Speaker 2: long contest and what name will be engraved upon the cup.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Also tomorrow, I am very excited to welcome in multiple
- 7:49Speaker 2: Grammy Award winning singer Norah Jones to the program tomorrow.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So we got that going on for us, which is
- 7:58Speaker 2: nice day. That's probably enough for now. We're going to
- 8:04Speaker 2: take a break. We will be back the Final Lap
- 8:08Speaker 2: brought to you by and Co Insurance.
- 8:11Speaker 5: Inco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 8:15Speaker 5: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 8:18Speaker 5: our name has changed, we're still the same local team

- 8:23Speaker 5: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits. We're
- 8:27Speaker 5: still committed to protecting what matters most with the personalized
- 8:30Speaker 5: service you expect. Now with the strength of Hub International
- 8:33Speaker 5: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team and
- 8:37Speaker 5: co Insurance a hub international company. So you're ready for tomorrow.
- 8:43Speaker 6: NASCAR's regional Managing Director, Joey Denowitz is on.
- 8:46Speaker 7: He's telling us all about the Cookout Clash at Bowman
- 8:49Speaker 7: Gray Stadium, which will be back for twenty twenty six.
- 8:52Speaker 8: Last year, everybody had a good time with the clash,
- 8:54Speaker 8: so we're going to run it back. Coming off of
- 8:56Speaker 8: twenty twenty five Cookout class of Bowman Gray, we felt
- 9:00Speaker 8: overwhelming support across the state of North Carolina, forty three
- 9:03Speaker 8: other states in three countries to bring the NASCAR Cup
- 9:06Speaker 8: Series back to NASCAR's longest running advanced autoparts weekly series track,
- 9:10Speaker 8: Bowman Gray Stadium in February. We sold out of tickets, parking, hospitality, merch,
- 9:16Speaker 8: hot dogs, bush light, all the things. So in talking
- 9:20Speaker 8: to the City of Winston Sale Mayor Joins and city
- 9:23Speaker 8: council to find folks from Cookout, the guy who won
- 9:27Speaker 8: the Bobby Allison Memorial Trophy, Chase Elliott, and of course
- 9:29Speaker 8: the fans, it was an overwhelming yes. When we were asked, well,
- 9:33Speaker 8: should we bring the Cookout Clash back to the mathouse,
- 9:36Speaker 8: So excited to do it again. Our operations team worked
- 9:41Speaker 8: really hard last year to bring the first NASCAR Cup
- 9:44Speaker 8: Series event back in over fifty years to the Mathhouse,
- 9:49Speaker 8: and it shined a light on short track racing, not
- 9:53Speaker 8: just the city of Winston Salem and NASCAR Cup Series,
- 9:56Speaker 8: but also great short tracks around the country. Speaking of lights, obviously,
- 10:01Speaker 8: we invested in the facility at Bowman Gray Stadium with
- 10:03Speaker 8: impdated infrastructure like led musc Go lighting and we're excited
- 10:08Speaker 8: to run it back.
- 10:09Speaker 1: This is the final lapp.
- 10:11Speaker 9: Are you like everybody else in the world who has

- 12:25Speaker 2: to make your picks. It's going to be different. We're
- 12:29Speaker 2: only picking ten games. I had to pick games I
- 12:33Speaker 2: thought they're actually going to play.
- 12:35Speaker 4: They're not canceled.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I picked the four first round playoff games as well,
- 12:42Speaker 2: so that will be part of it.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Some of these games will last.
- 12:47Speaker 1: At January first.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And beyond, and we will give out a valuable prize
- 12:54Speaker 2: package in twenty twenty six when we get back on
- 12:58Speaker 2: the air.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Okay, pay attention.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Those of you have played, you'll you should get a
- 13:03Speaker 2: note saying, hey, games are ready to pick. Nine am
- 13:07Speaker 2: tomorrow morning, those games will be released. You'll have plenty
- 13:11Speaker 2: of time to cogitate. And good luck to everybody. Thanks
- 13:17Speaker 2: to the thousands upon hundreds of thousands of you who
- 13:22Speaker 2: have played the contest. Again this season, it was close.
- 13:28Speaker 2: We'll talk about that tomorrow. It was close. We had
- 13:33Speaker 2: like four or five former winners among the top twenty
- 13:36Speaker 2: five again this year.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Their names are already on the trophy. I wasn't one
- 13:41Speaker 4: of them. Unfortunately, I was way way back. Anyway, I digress.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast contest brought to you the entire
- 13:53Speaker 2: season by Chad Jones, Law and Zwornimann Flooring Today actually
- 14:04Speaker 2: live on the Zone. We heard from Mike Elko. He
- 14:10Speaker 2: answered questions from the media. He's answered a lot of
- 14:15Speaker 2: questions in the last twenty four hours. They're required to
- 14:19Speaker 2: do a like zoom call with national reporters, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 2: various Bowl games host stuff like that. We're gonna hear
- 14:29Speaker 2: from Ryan Day coming up from I think it was yesterday,
- 14:38Speaker 2: mostly talking about the national the Big Ten championship game.
- 14:43Speaker 2: It's not the National Championship game. I think a little
- 14:49Speaker 2: bit more low scoring than we thought it might be.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But Pad and Fight newsiers they're pretty good. They made
- 15:00Speaker 2: Ohio State look.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Mortal.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Let's say, you would have thought Ohio State was playing
- 15:08Speaker 2: Michigan the last four years the way that game turned
- 15:11Speaker 2: out Saturday night. But there you go, Ohio State in Indiana,
- 15:18Speaker 2: Ohio State, Georgia, Texas Tech. I'm still trying to figure
- 15:21Speaker 2: out why Georgia is not the number two seed at
- 15:26Speaker 2: Ohio State the three seed after they lost that game.
- 15:30Speaker 2: That's a little surprising, I must say. I'm sure we'll
- 15:36Speaker 2: talk to the writers a little bit about that coming up.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I don't know how much time we're going to spend
- 15:45Speaker 2: on it, because frankly, it's done. There's a certain glee
- 15:50Speaker 2: watching Notre Dame jump up and down in the corner.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I'll be honest about that.
- 15:56Speaker 2: So let's hear from Coachelko and part of what he
- 16:01Speaker 2: had to say today answering questions from the media.
- 16:04Speaker 13: We woke up today, we had a good practice and
- 16:07Speaker 13: getting ready to go. Obviously Miami a really talented team
- 16:09Speaker 13: and so excited for the opportunity.
- 16:12Speaker 14: Questions on skill, left side, middle to rob and then
- 16:15Speaker 14: we'll go to Olan.
- 16:19Speaker 15: How do he coach? Howdy?
- 16:21Speaker 16: So Miami gave up I think like eleven sacks this season,
- 16:25Speaker 16: and it's pretty much how you know, how Carson Beck
- 16:28Speaker 16: plays is how the Hurricanes go. So what talk about
- 16:31Speaker 16: the importance of making him feel uncomfortable and getting to
- 16:35Speaker 16: him ever play.
- 16:36Speaker 13: Yeah, I think he's an extremely talented quarterback. I think
- 16:39Speaker 13: you see that throughout the year. Obviously, he does a
- 16:41Speaker 13: really really good job at delivering the football. They got
- 16:44Speaker 13: a really explosive passing attack, different variety of screen, short game,
- 16:49Speaker 13: pushing the ball down the field, and I think he
- 16:51Speaker 13: delivers it all very well, very accurate. They're very talented
- 16:53Speaker 13: at wide receiver, and you know, obviously trying to figure
- 16:57Speaker 13: out a way to get that out of rhythm will
- 17:00Speaker 13: be critical. Not a lot of teams have been successful
- 17:03Speaker 13: doing that, and so you don't have to go to
- 17:05Speaker 13: work and come up with a good plan on how
- 17:07Speaker 13: to try to create a little bit of indecision for
- 17:09Speaker 13: him and at least try to muddy the waters a
- 17:11Speaker 13: little bit as best we can the.
- 17:13Speaker 14: Right side to Allen from Texacs, Mike got a couple
- 17:16Speaker 14: of things. Number One, after the Texas game, you said,
- 17:19Speaker 14: I think we're talking about rushing defense, and you said,
- 17:21Speaker 14: we're going to have to, uh, look at what we're
- 17:25Speaker 14: asking our guys to do and if they're able to
- 17:27Speaker 14: do it. So I was wondering, you know, if you're
- 17:29Speaker 14: able to reveal any evaluations that you came to.
- 17:34Speaker 13: Yeah, I don't know that there's any evaluations to reveal.
- 17:37Speaker 13: I think that's that's obviously an ongoing conversation that you
- 17:41Speaker 13: have as a coach. You know, when you're when you're
- 17:45Speaker 13: not doing things at the level you want to see
- 17:47Speaker 13: them get done.
- 17:48Speaker 15: I think you have to explore it.
- 17:50Speaker 13: You can't just point fingers and you know, and so
- 17:53Speaker 13: I don't know that there's any like magical revelation to it.
- 17:56Speaker 13: I think it's just an ongoing target that we're trying
- 17:59Speaker 13: to make sure we pay a lot of attention to.
- 18:01Speaker 15: And then somebody's gonna ask you this, So of mme
- 18:04Speaker 15: as we'll, uh, they're great.
- 18:06Speaker 14: Any anticipation on the.
- 18:07Speaker 15: They're great, on the leon or anything, they're great.
- 18:10Speaker 13: I knew exactly where we were going with that, and
- 18:12Speaker 13: they all appear to be great.
- 18:14Speaker 14: Still on the right side.
- 18:15Speaker 17: And going to Christie from the AP, I know you
- 18:17Speaker 17: guys have much bigger goals and simply getting to the playoffs,
- 18:20Speaker 17: But has there been any moment of reflection or appreciation
- 18:23Speaker 17: for you know, getting the eggis of the playoffs for
- 18:26Speaker 17: the first time, doing something that hasn't been done at
- 18:27Speaker 17: the school.
- 18:28Speaker 15: Yeah, no, not really.
- 18:30Speaker 13: I think obviously there was excitement yesterday to sit in
- 18:32Speaker 13: the watch party and see our name go up on
- 18:34Speaker 13: the screen, and that's not you know, that moment's not
- 18:38Speaker 13: lost on the team or on me. But we have
- 18:42Speaker 13: aspirations to do a lot more than just sit in
- 18:44Speaker 13: a room and see our name get put on a screen.
- 18:46Speaker 13: And so I think very quickly it shifted to now
- 18:50Speaker 13: we have we have an opponent, we have a focus.
- 18:52Speaker 13: I think you could feel the energy lift. You know,
- 18:54Speaker 13: we kind of went right out of there into a
- 18:56Speaker 13: team meeting and to get to work on kind of
- 18:58Speaker 13: where this thing was going.
- 18:59Speaker 15: And so so yeah, it's obviously it's it's the first
- 19:03Speaker 15: step is getting in. But I think we want to
- 19:05Speaker 15: try to do a little bit more than that.
- 19:07Speaker 17: And I know this some of the year football teams
- 19:10Speaker 17: are banged up and maybe tom off is good, But
- 19:11Speaker 17: is there any challenges to not playing for several weeks?
- 19:14Speaker 15: Yeah, for sure.
- 19:15Speaker 13: I think you've seen that over the years all the time,
- 19:18Speaker 13: and like the bowl season and how you handle, you know,
- 19:22Speaker 13: the balancing act of keeping your team fresh, keeping your
- 19:26Speaker 13: team excited, practicing hard so that you can maintain the
- 19:30Speaker 13: physicality that you need to and the fundamentals that you
- 19:32Speaker 13: need to. I think that's a balance that that you
- 19:35Speaker 13: spend a lot of time trying to get right. And
- 19:38Speaker 13: so we've had that recipe for four years now. This
- 19:43Speaker 13: is year four as a head coach, and so we've
- 19:46Speaker 13: tinkered it, We've we've tweaked it, but I think we've
- 19:48Speaker 13: got a pretty good rhythm of what we're trying to
- 19:50Speaker 13: get done and you know, this morning was great. It
- 19:52Speaker 13: was great to get back on the grass. Think the
- 19:54Speaker 13: kids had a lot of energy running around this morning.
- 19:56Speaker 17: And last thing for me.
- 19:57Speaker 15: With ket okay, that's okay, that's good.
- 20:02Speaker 17: With Cashia is hell And like his journey from you know,
- 20:06Speaker 17: no one at a power for school wanted him out
- 20:08Speaker 17: of high school to where he is today. Can you
- 20:10Speaker 17: just reflect on his journey and like what he means
- 20:12Speaker 17: to your team?
- 20:13Speaker 15: Yeah, I think it's awesome. I think it is.
- 20:15Speaker 13: I think, you know, for him to be a kid
- 20:18Speaker 13: that we recruited very early on. I've referenced him at
- 20:21Speaker 13: times as the OG on this defense because he was
- 20:24Speaker 13: one of the first kids to believe and buy into
- 20:26Speaker 13: him and will what we were doing here and what
- 20:28Speaker 13: we wanted to be about. I think he came here
- 20:31Speaker 13: to grow and develop and challenge himself and then to
- 20:34Speaker 13: see him rise to those challenges where you know, he's
- 20:37Speaker 13: on a plane going to an awards banquet as the
- 20:40Speaker 13: defensive player of the Year in the country.
- 20:42Speaker 18: Right.
- 20:42Speaker 15: It's just it's a phenomenal story. He's a great kid.
- 20:45Speaker 13: The work ethic that he has and what he's put
- 20:47Speaker 13: into this thing has been awesome. And I know he's
- 20:50Speaker 13: excited to try to finish this thing the right way,
- 20:52Speaker 13: but it is it's been a really really cool journey.
- 20:54Speaker 15: To see him on We'll go to Travis from kt
- 20:57Speaker 15: X in the front.
- 20:58Speaker 7: With what do we heard Colin and talk in his
- 21:02Speaker 7: press conference up there about kind of how he's delegating
- 21:05Speaker 7: his time as the CEO. Did you bring in other
- 21:08Speaker 7: guys in the offense to kind of help with some
- 21:12Speaker 7: of those preparations. What does that kind of look like
- 21:14Speaker 7: moving forward with with the offensive side preparations and into this.
- 21:18Speaker 13: Yeah, I think one, it's probably a lot more collaborative
- 21:21Speaker 13: to begin with, and so I don't know that Colin's
- 21:25Speaker 13: you know, he's not the only one, obviously. I think
- 21:27Speaker 13: it's a very collaborative process that we go through on offense.
- 21:31Speaker 15: I have a ton of confidence.
- 21:32Speaker 13: In Colin and who he is as a man and
- 21:34Speaker 13: who he is as a competitor that he'll give the
- 21:37Speaker 13: focus and energy that he needs to to ensure that
- 21:39Speaker 13: this thing is.
- 21:40Speaker 15: Done the right way and finish the right way.
- 21:42Speaker 13: And so I have no questions about that, and so
- 21:45Speaker 13: I think all in we'll be able to manage this
- 21:47Speaker 13: thing pretty well.
- 21:48Speaker 7: And in finding that the next guy to fill that role.
- 21:51Speaker 7: What is that kind of timetable process looks like as
- 21:54Speaker 7: you manage everything else that's going on.
- 21:55Speaker 13: Yeah, I think I think we're in a pretty good
- 21:57Speaker 13: place with it. I think, you know, I think our
- 21:59Speaker 13: intention right now or to try to get through the
- 22:01Speaker 13: season and and and let that thing play out.
- 22:05Speaker 15: But I think, yeah, we're in a really good place
- 22:06Speaker 15: with with know in which direction we want to go
- 22:08Speaker 15: with that. On the front right with Carter from two, well,
- 22:12Speaker 15: I had my question stolen. So do you need a breath?
- 22:16Speaker 15: If you want to trade down? Am I?
- 22:18Speaker 10: You can trade down? How about that?
- 22:19Speaker 13: You''ll let you trade down a couple I'll let you
- 22:21Speaker 13: trade down a couple questions and you could re insert
- 22:24Speaker 13: later in the third round.
- 22:26Speaker 19: I'll have to improvise and just panic pick right here. Okay,
- 22:31Speaker 19: we've seen kind of the highs and the lows more
- 22:34Speaker 19: way more highs this season with with also play, we
- 22:38Speaker 19: talked about the first half of South Carolina a second half. Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 19: you think for a four game stretch, we'll need to
- 22:44Speaker 19: kind of happen for you guys to be that consistent
- 22:47Speaker 19: high that you all have been at.
- 22:48Speaker 13: Yeah, I think we have to understand the urgency of
- 22:51Speaker 13: the moment. I think we have to understand what it
- 22:54Speaker 13: takes to focus, play in and play out, and to
- 22:57Speaker 13: know that you've got to be on the side of
- 23:00Speaker 13: the balancing act. I say this all the time. You
- 23:02Speaker 13: know you can't play tight in the game of football.
- 23:04Speaker 13: If you play tight, you're gonna get beat because you're
- 23:07Speaker 13: not going to play your best. But if you're not
- 23:10Speaker 13: aware of the moment and you don't rise your focus
- 23:13Speaker 13: level to the moment, then you won't be able to
- 23:15Speaker 13: match the intensity you need to play at your best either, Right,
- 23:18Speaker 13: And that's a really really fine line balancing act. And
- 23:21Speaker 13: I think again, the more opportunities we get to play
- 23:24Speaker 13: in those types of games, the better it is for
- 23:27Speaker 13: our program. It'll be great to be back at home
- 23:30Speaker 13: in front of the fans of Kyle Field, and again,
- 23:34Speaker 13: it's just another opportunity for us to go out and
- 23:35Speaker 13: try to hit it right.
- 23:37Speaker 19: And on the OC discussion, as the co OC, how
- 23:43Speaker 19: what was coach Wiggins' role kind of look like in
- 23:47Speaker 19: that role? And then is he kind of part of
- 23:50Speaker 19: the consideration for that new role.
- 23:52Speaker 13: Yeah, I probably won't get into the specifics of it all.
- 23:55Speaker 13: I got a ton of respect for Homan, I think
- 23:57Speaker 13: he does a phenomenal job. Again, you know, no different,
- 24:01Speaker 13: no different than when I was a defensive coordinator. And
- 24:04Speaker 13: this is to take nothing away from Colin. Collins phenomenal,
- 24:06Speaker 13: but I think sometimes there's a belief that it's a
- 24:09Speaker 13: one man show.
- 24:11Speaker 15: It's never a one man show.
- 24:12Speaker 13: You know, as a defensive coordinator, you're only as good
- 24:14Speaker 13: as the people around you. As an offensive coordinator, you're
- 24:17Speaker 13: at times only as good as the people around you.
- 24:19Speaker 13: And obviously Collin's phenomenal and did a phenomenal job for us,
- 24:24Speaker 13: But I also think there's a lot of other really
- 24:26Speaker 13: talented coaches in that room too.
- 24:28Speaker 20: Schill left side of Alex and then Aaron Mattias, etc.
- 24:33Speaker 6: But more on the OC. Do you anticipate the next
- 24:35Speaker 6: person in that role running a similar system to what
- 24:38Speaker 6: Colin has run and what you guys have run so
- 24:41Speaker 6: far these first two years.
- 24:42Speaker 21: Yeah, I think if you look at you know, our program,
- 24:48Speaker 21: you know, from the two years of Duke to the
- 24:49Speaker 21: two years of Texas A and M, there's some very
- 24:51Speaker 21: strong similarities.
- 24:53Speaker 15: In terms of what we look like on offense.
- 24:55Speaker 13: Those are probably the philosophical things that I would like
- 24:59Speaker 13: a Texas A and M foot ball offense to look like. Obviously,
- 25:02Speaker 13: every coordinator is going to have their own slant, twist things,
- 25:06Speaker 13: and so there's a base part of the fundamental principles
- 25:09Speaker 13: that won't go anywhere, and then there's obviously some of
- 25:13Speaker 13: the you know, smaller details that you know they'll be
- 25:16Speaker 13: able to put their twist on however they want.
- 25:18Speaker 6: And Marcel said on RG three's podcast that he is
- 25:21Speaker 6: planning to return next season. I know you said earlier
- 25:24Speaker 6: that you guys had a lot of those draft type
- 25:26Speaker 6: discussions after the season, but I'm curious if you had
- 25:29Speaker 6: had any kind of conversation with him about next year
- 25:32Speaker 6: and how much he may benefit from maybe another season
- 25:34Speaker 6: in college.
- 25:35Speaker 10: No, not yet.
- 25:36Speaker 13: I think you know, you don't want to confuse the two,
- 25:40Speaker 13: and I think it's it's one of the challenges and
- 25:42Speaker 13: you know, for us being in the playoffs, we don't
- 25:44Speaker 13: want to get into next year conversations and rock the
- 25:48Speaker 13: boat on this year, and so you know, we want
- 25:51Speaker 13: to keep our focus on the main thing, which is
- 25:54Speaker 13: right now, and I think that's what we're trying to
- 25:57Speaker 13: do to the best of our ability. And so you know,
- 26:00Speaker 13: there's going to be time for those conversations. Hopefully that's
- 26:03Speaker 13: sometime after January twentieth or so.
- 26:06Speaker 22: You know.
- 26:06Speaker 13: For now, it's it's focused on Miami and playing our
- 26:09Speaker 13: best Football's got an erin on.
- 26:11Speaker 20: The left, Goads talking about right now obviously finishing the game,
- 26:16Speaker 20: staying be finishing strong in the second half, been kind
- 26:19Speaker 20: of the mentality for the year. And just now that's
- 26:21Speaker 20: the playoff time. Have you seen kind of a change
- 26:23Speaker 20: or like a step up in mentality through practice since
- 26:26Speaker 20: the Texas game.
- 26:27Speaker 13: Yeah, you know, we've only been out there once, but yeah,
- 26:31Speaker 13: certainly a better urgency as we went through it today.
- 26:34Speaker 15: And you know, again, I think part of that is is,
- 26:38Speaker 15: you know.
- 26:38Speaker 13: The positive sometimes of a loss is it refocuses and
- 26:42Speaker 13: recenters everything. And so I think when you're winning, you
- 26:46Speaker 13: talk a lot about what needs to get fixed and changed,
- 26:49Speaker 13: and it doesn't always seem to happen at the rate
- 26:51Speaker 13: you want it to. Then sometimes when you get slapped
- 26:55Speaker 13: in the face a little bit, you kind of have
- 26:57Speaker 13: to have to, you know, readjust and I think that's
- 26:59Speaker 13: may be what will happen from the loss.
- 27:01Speaker 2: And so all right, that's a little bit of coach Elco.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Earlier today he was asked about the offense and Colin Kleine.
- 27:11Speaker 2: We're gonna hear from Colin Clyde tomorrow. By the way
- 27:15Speaker 2: he talked to the people in Manhattan, I thought i'd
- 27:19Speaker 2: let you in on a little of that tomorrow on
- 27:22Speaker 2: the program of a high school report. Tomorrow, we're gonna
- 27:29Speaker 2: hear from I think Trey Zoon tomorrow on the program.
- 27:34Speaker 2: So we've got that going on for us, which is nice.
- 27:38Speaker 2: And then yeah, we'll have a better idea of the
- 27:42Speaker 2: rest of the week.
- 27:44Speaker 4: I know that we.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Will visit with Kirk Bowles on Friday and check in
- 27:50Speaker 2: on all of the prepper preparations for the Citrus Bowl
- 27:55Speaker 2: for the people in Austin. Remember, as Steve Spurrier so
- 28:00Speaker 2: eloquently once put it, you cannot spell citrus without ut
- 28:07Speaker 2: coming up. We're going to hear from Ryan Day, the
- 28:10Speaker 2: Ohio State coach. I don't know if his players have
- 28:18Speaker 2: the same demeanor today as coach Day has, but let's
- 28:24Speaker 2: say he wasn't in the best of moods following the
- 28:29Speaker 2: loss to Indiana on Saturday night and then coming up
- 28:36Speaker 2: Jimmy Hawkins from It's a Wonderful Life, So be sure
- 28:42Speaker 2: and phone the neighbors, wake the kids and let them
- 28:46Speaker 2: know that Jimmy Hawkins is going to be on here
- 28:50Speaker 2: in about fifteen to twenty minutes. And then we've got
- 28:53Speaker 2: the writers round table coming up.
- 28:55Speaker 4: We have a.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Writer a reserve, Alex Miller is coming off the bench
- 29:07Speaker 2: to replace Rusty Berson. I think what happened with Rusty
- 29:11Speaker 2: is he actually went to the A and MSMU basketball
- 29:16Speaker 2: game yesterday in Arlington.
- 29:19Speaker 4: I'm not sure why, but he did.
- 29:23Speaker 2: He made this sacrifice and I think he probably needed
- 29:29Speaker 2: an extra day to recover from that one.
- 29:32Speaker 4: That slop fest yesterday. Lots of whistles.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Okay, what's today? What's today to eight? Today's Desemmer eight.
- 29:45Speaker 2: So we're seventeen days from Christmas. So we're sixteen days
- 29:50Speaker 2: and in some cases fifteen or fifteen and a half
- 29:52Speaker 2: days from your last opportunity to get Christmas gifts. And
- 29:59Speaker 2: I know that guys are going to wait until like
- 30:01Speaker 2: the twenty third, maybe the morning of the twenty fourth,
- 30:05Speaker 2: to say, Hey, I got to go get a gift.
- 30:09Speaker 4: But I'm going to make it easy for you.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I'm going to send you by Galleria either the day
- 30:15Speaker 2: Spa on Rock Prairie or the Spa, salon and boutique
- 30:20Speaker 2: at Century Square and get a gift certificate all wrapped
- 30:25Speaker 2: up neatly and nicely and with a bow on it.
- 30:29Speaker 2: It'll look great. Whether you want to get a monetary certificate,
- 30:33Speaker 2: let her pick the service, or get a massage or
- 30:36Speaker 2: a facial or manicure patty whatever, and she can always
- 30:42Speaker 2: trade that as well, because you know, we all know
- 30:46Speaker 2: you don't know what you're doing. Gallerya has been around

- 33:19Speaker 15: We didn't know what to think of him.
- 33:22Speaker 27: To tell us police, nobby, police, nabby.
- 33:31Speaker 2: So Robert Earl Keen is on his annual Christmas tour
- 33:37Speaker 2: right now. He's up at Tennessee tonight, he'll be in Austin.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Maybe it was a week before Christmas. And he's been
- 33:46Speaker 2: on obviously with us several times, and I've told him personally,
- 33:51Speaker 2: I think that is one of the great songs ever written,
- 33:54Speaker 2: not just Christmas songs, one of the great songs ever written.
- 34:00Speaker 28: Austin that weekend right before Christmas, and then that Sunday
- 34:04Speaker 28: and Monday they'll be in.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Houston, Okay.
- 34:07Speaker 2: So that's the that's the playoff weekend nineteen twentieth two
- 34:12Speaker 2: nights the.
- 34:14Speaker 10: Dallas nineteenth twentieth's in Houston in.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Austin, Okay, nineteen twentieth in Austin, twenty first in Houston, Okay.
- 34:23Speaker 2: See at the House of Blues in Houston. He usually
- 34:25Speaker 2: plays the House of Blues in Houston. Yeah, I mean
- 34:32Speaker 2: the Christmas show is unique. It always says a theme.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I've been to a couple of them and they're I
- 34:43Speaker 2: highly recommend them. Okay, let's hear from Ryan Day, the
- 34:48Speaker 2: Ohio State football coach who had a really bad night
- 34:51Speaker 2: in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
- 34:53Speaker 29: Well know, probably I haven't spent a lot of time
- 34:55Speaker 29: watching that film already, But as you think about what
- 34:58Speaker 29: Brian's gonna have to deal with over the next month,
- 35:00Speaker 29: how you want things to go with this offensive game plan.
- 35:02Speaker 29: Have you guys started mapping out how you would like
- 35:04Speaker 29: things to go over the next thirty months in terms
- 35:06Speaker 29: of his involvement and maybe who's calling plays when you
- 35:09Speaker 29: guys take.
- 35:09Speaker 10: The build service.
- 35:10Speaker 30: Yeap ye met on it today and he's going to
- 35:13Speaker 30: continue with the same plan. I do think having you know,
- 35:17Speaker 30: a you know, three four weeks to prepare for the
- 35:20Speaker 30: game will be beneficial. And so we'll still have everybody
- 35:25Speaker 30: involved with it, and we're going to work hard to
- 35:27Speaker 30: put a game plan together and make sure that we're
- 35:29Speaker 30: putting our guys in the best position to be successful.
- 35:31Speaker 27: Pat Murphy ran a lot of the guys.
- 35:35Speaker 31: The players last night were talking about sort of beating themselves,
- 35:38Speaker 31: mistakes they made, just feeling like it was more down
- 35:42Speaker 31: than necessarily Indiana while giving in the end of credit.
- 35:44Speaker 31: Now that you've watched the film a little bit, how
- 35:47Speaker 31: much do you see that and stuff that can be
- 35:49Speaker 31: corrected here before you go on this run, And how
- 35:51Speaker 31: much is it things that maybe we were more what
- 35:54Speaker 31: Indiana was doing and defenses that are more difficult.
- 35:57Speaker 30: Well, I think any time you're playing this time of year,
- 35:59Speaker 30: whether it's in the ten championship ward in the playoffs,
- 36:01Speaker 30: you're playing against good teams. So we never want to,
- 36:05Speaker 30: you know, not give credit to our opponent. They played
- 36:06Speaker 30: a good game, and but it's clear that we were
- 36:09Speaker 30: not at our best, you know, coaches and players. So
- 36:14Speaker 30: we need to be moving forward, and you know, this
- 36:16Speaker 30: is certainly an opportunity for us to you know, learn
- 36:19Speaker 30: from that game. And when you leave it to one
- 36:23Speaker 30: play in all three phases, you put yourself at risk.
- 36:27Speaker 30: And you know, the idea of leaving no doubt did
- 36:29Speaker 30: not happened the other night. So you know we're gonna,
- 36:33Speaker 30: you know, make sure that we get on the film
- 36:35Speaker 30: and you know we certainly you said, I haven't watched
- 36:37Speaker 30: that I've watched at all. A bunch didn't sleep well
- 36:39Speaker 30: last night, you know, have a six stomach and my
- 36:43Speaker 30: feeling over the game, and so you know, sort of
- 36:46Speaker 30: these these guys here, but once you wake up the
- 36:49Speaker 30: next morning and figure out what the new mission is
- 36:51Speaker 30: and it gives you some direction that way.
- 36:53Speaker 10: But we'll use this as motivation.
- 36:56Speaker 32: H Jeremy berminghe you haven't lost a lot of games
- 37:00Speaker 32: as a head coach, who it seems like, at least
- 37:03Speaker 32: from the outside looking in, that a lot of times
- 37:05Speaker 32: the losses sort of follow a similar script.
- 37:08Speaker 27: Is there?
- 37:09Speaker 33: And you've often talked about scheme versus personnel versus execution.
- 37:13Speaker 33: Is there one of those things that you feel like
- 37:15Speaker 33: is a recurring issue over the years that maybe you
- 37:17Speaker 33: can pitpoint or say like, this is something that's regularly
- 37:21Speaker 33: happened when we've had these sort of performances.
- 37:22Speaker 30: Well, I think you know, we did have one turnover
- 37:25Speaker 30: on offense and we really didn't strike any balance. I
- 37:28Speaker 30: think that's probably one of the things. You know, we
- 37:30Speaker 30: I think called thirty five passes and twenty two runs
- 37:34Speaker 30: and you know, didn't really get the run game going.
- 37:37Speaker 30: We had five sacks and then third down in red
- 37:40Speaker 30: zone certainly was not good. And so you know, when
- 37:43Speaker 30: you're not winning the situations, you don't have balance. You
- 37:45Speaker 30: know that that is a recipe for you know, not
- 37:48Speaker 30: a very good day on offense. So I know everybody
- 37:51Speaker 30: in the program is looking at it to figure out
- 37:53Speaker 30: how they can get better.
- 37:53Speaker 10: But we need to have balance, that's for sure.
- 37:56Speaker 34: Andy.
- 37:56Speaker 2: And yeah, just so you mentioned the sacks, thoughts on
- 38:01Speaker 2: the offensive lines performance and just what maybe needs to
- 38:04Speaker 2: improve and.
- 38:04Speaker 30: Pass protection, well, they have a good defensive front, and
- 38:09Speaker 30: you know, it's always a combination of things. You know,
- 38:11Speaker 30: we can we can do a better job of, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 30: designing some plays that get out of the quarterback's hand
- 38:15Speaker 30: a little bit faster.
- 38:16Speaker 10: We were looking to.
- 38:16Speaker 30: Push the ball down the field early in the game
- 38:18Speaker 30: and we broke down a little bit. But that's everybody involved.
- 38:21Speaker 30: So we'll look to get better at it and make
- 38:24Speaker 30: sure that you know, you know, we're in that situation
- 38:26Speaker 30: again that we're putting our guys in the best position
- 38:29Speaker 30: to be successful. But at the same time, you know,
- 38:31Speaker 30: guy's got to do their job as well. So everyone's
- 38:33Speaker 30: looking at it and making sure that we're doing our
- 38:34Speaker 30: part to do a better job.
- 38:37Speaker 10: Awesome work NX that point.
- 38:38Speaker 28: What and when you look at just structuring the week's
- 38:42Speaker 28: head and it's just happened and just got the matchups
- 38:45Speaker 28: the destination. But what's the practice schedule look like, what's
- 38:48Speaker 28: the scouting look like with two opponents for the next
- 38:50Speaker 28: couple of weeks.
- 38:51Speaker 10: What's what's the plan moving forward here?
- 38:53Speaker 30: Yeap went through with the team here just about half
- 38:55Speaker 30: an hour ago, and you know the goal is to
- 38:58Speaker 30: be at max you know, maximum speed, effort, violence, you know,
- 39:04Speaker 30: really peaking at the end of the month here, because
- 39:07Speaker 30: you know it's a significant layoff. So the first thing
- 39:10Speaker 30: we want to do is the guys who have played
- 39:11Speaker 30: significant amount of football, let them get their legs underneath them.
- 39:15Speaker 30: But also as we get into next week, make sure
- 39:17Speaker 30: that you know they're keeping their edge. I think that's
- 39:20Speaker 30: important because it's it's not like a bye week and
- 39:22Speaker 30: this is a long layoff. And last last year, you know,
- 39:26Speaker 30: we had the first round game and then we were right
- 39:28Speaker 30: back into it and find ourselves in a rhythm.
- 39:29Speaker 10: So that's something that you know, we're really looking at hard.
- 39:32Speaker 30: You know, visited on it today with Mick and Quinn
- 39:34Speaker 30: and making sure we're putting together the right plan.
- 39:37Speaker 10: You know, put together a.
- 39:38Speaker 30: Really good practice schedule around Christmas, travel down there, I
- 39:42Speaker 30: believe in the twenty eighth, and then keep a lot
- 39:44Speaker 30: of the same things as we got closer to the
- 39:46Speaker 30: game as we did last year. So to answer your question,
- 39:49Speaker 30: want to get the guys healthy, want to get them
- 39:51Speaker 30: rested physically, mentally, emotionally.
- 39:55Speaker 10: There's a lot of guys hurting after that game. You know,
- 39:56Speaker 10: they were all pissed, just like all of us.
- 39:58Speaker 30: But you know, you got to wake up and move
- 40:00Speaker 30: on and you know, figure out how to get those
- 40:02Speaker 30: things fixed. But then also physically, but you know, not
- 40:05Speaker 30: so much that you know, we lose our edge. So
- 40:07Speaker 30: that's that's the balance that we're looking to. We're looking
- 40:10Speaker 30: to strike here in terms of the practice schedule and
- 40:12Speaker 30: how we're putting that together.
- 40:15Speaker 28: Having looked at the film, what do you would what
- 40:19Speaker 28: would you what did you feel like you learned some.
- 40:20Speaker 10: Of those red zone sequences? Having having the benefit of season, Well,
- 40:26Speaker 10: you know, we found ourselves down in there.
- 40:28Speaker 30: You know, certainly the game plan going in was that
- 40:30Speaker 30: you ne sa Us and some two and three tight
- 40:32Speaker 30: end sets that we felt like we could get some
- 40:34Speaker 30: movement down there and get the ball vertical into the
- 40:36Speaker 30: end zone, and that didn't have it consistently. You know,
- 40:40Speaker 30: on the third and one you know looked you know,
- 40:42Speaker 30: or you know, in a couple of things we rolled
- 40:44Speaker 30: out try to get a couple of play actions.
- 40:45Speaker 10: Those weren't you know successful.
- 40:48Speaker 30: So it was a combination of you know, not you know,
- 40:51Speaker 30: getting enough movement in the run game and not you know,
- 40:54Speaker 30: executing and you know, game planning well enough, I guess,
- 40:58Speaker 30: and scheming it up well enough in the past game.
- 40:59Speaker 30: So you know, it felt like on the second fourth down,
- 41:03Speaker 30: like I mentioned to you, that we could get three points,
- 41:05Speaker 30: get out of there and move on getting to maybe
- 41:07Speaker 30: get a chance to win the game at the end
- 41:08Speaker 30: or overtime. But when you have two drives install like that,
- 41:12Speaker 30: you know, if you kick two field goals, you know
- 41:15Speaker 30: you win the game. You can score one touchdown, you
- 41:17Speaker 30: win the game. He scored two touchdowns. It's you know,
- 41:20Speaker 30: twenty four thirteen, and you know, you're just a whole
- 41:23Speaker 30: different situation. But that's that's these types of games, that's
- 41:26Speaker 30: these matchup games. So as coaches, we've got to go
- 41:28Speaker 30: in there and make sure we're putting our guys in
- 41:29Speaker 30: the right situation to be successful, and then at the
- 41:31Speaker 30: same time, we got to make sure that we're executing
- 41:32Speaker 30: them well. So it's all the above, and that's that's
- 41:35Speaker 30: what hurts on days like today, you know, when you
- 41:37Speaker 30: feel like you came up short and then you got
- 41:39Speaker 30: to go move on, take your medicine and get it
- 41:42Speaker 30: figured out.
- 41:44Speaker 35: Coach, I know you guys are bummed out you lost.
- 41:47Speaker 35: Nobody wants to win more than you guys do. But
- 41:49Speaker 35: that said, you've been in this position before. There's a
- 41:52Speaker 35: lot of football to go. How do you expect your
- 41:56Speaker 35: club to respond now? And I don't know what we
- 42:00Speaker 35: your message.
- 42:00Speaker 10: To Yeah, we're going to respond like men.
- 42:02Speaker 30: You know what, can I sit around in point fingers
- 42:03Speaker 30: and feel sorry for ourselves?
- 42:04Speaker 10: We lost, We are not at our best.
- 42:07Speaker 30: Everybody in including myself, including the coaches, everybody, And so
- 42:12Speaker 30: that's what you have to do.
- 42:13Speaker 10: And then you got to address what the problems are
- 42:15Speaker 10: and get them fixed.
- 42:16Speaker 30: You know, when when you lose a game like that,
- 42:18Speaker 30: you can't just you know, you know, feel sorry for
- 42:22Speaker 30: yourself or you know, point fingers. You have to get
- 42:25Speaker 30: the issues fixed. And so certainly the red zone was
- 42:28Speaker 30: one of them. Balance on offense, there's some things certainly
- 42:31Speaker 30: that I know, the guys on defense you don't want
- 42:34Speaker 30: to get addressed as well.
- 42:35Speaker 10: And special teams.
- 42:38Speaker 30: Now on defense, you know, I think we held them
- 42:39Speaker 30: to thirteen points, which is the least that's been the
- 42:42Speaker 30: last two years. So there's a lot of good football
- 42:44Speaker 30: being played there. Now that being said, you know, the
- 42:46Speaker 30: goal is to win. Remember we talked about that last year,
- 42:48Speaker 30: like win the game, and you know, there were opportunities
- 42:51Speaker 30: to win the game just across the board in all
- 42:53Speaker 30: three phases, but we certainly were not at our best
- 42:57Speaker 30: and that that's the bottom line. So we need to
- 42:59Speaker 30: be moving forward with the teams we're going to play,
- 43:01Speaker 30: because everybody that's in this playoff are really good teams
- 43:05Speaker 30: as we know. So you know, hopefully we're able to
- 43:09Speaker 30: have a great month and prepare and then go play
- 43:10Speaker 30: in this Cotton Bowl and be at our best.
- 43:12Speaker 22: All right.
- 43:13Speaker 2: That's Ryan Day and Ohio State would be the opponent

- 44:20Speaker 37: Wunted Texans defense held the high power Chiefs offense in check,
- 44:24Speaker 37: forcing three Patrick Malmes interceptions and stifling the Chiefs offense

- 46:58Speaker 41: Chriss come this time, well, thanks for joining us.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Got the writers round table coming up here at about
- 47:13Speaker 2: fifty to twenty minutes. But I was able to visit
- 47:18Speaker 2: with actor Jimmy Hawkins. He played Tommy Bailey, the youngest
- 47:23Speaker 2: boy of George Bailey in the icoic Christmas movie It's
- 47:28Speaker 2: a Wonderful Life.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Jimmy, how are you.
- 47:32Speaker 27: I'm great. Thanks for having me on your show.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely, it's a treat. You were really young.
- 47:38Speaker 2: At what point did you realize that you were part
- 47:41Speaker 2: of one of the most iconic films in the history
- 47:43Speaker 2: of cinema.
- 47:46Speaker 22: Well, basically it was in the early nineties. You know,
- 47:51Speaker 22: I had seen it showing on TV more and more
- 47:55Speaker 22: and more and more, and Paul Peterson I sat on
- 47:58Speaker 22: the board of the Donna Reed Foundation, and we went
- 48:01Speaker 22: to her hometown for twenty five years to do a festival,
- 48:06Speaker 22: and we wanted to do something special, So I said,
- 48:09Speaker 22: why don't we write a book?
- 48:10Speaker 27: And he swell, what's the subject?
- 48:12Speaker 22: I said, well, you know, everybody thinks they know all
- 48:15Speaker 22: about It's Wonderful Life. Why don't we write a trivia
- 48:17Speaker 22: book and challenge them? And I said, I know stuff
- 48:20Speaker 22: about the movie nobody knows, and we can really make
- 48:23Speaker 22: those the hard questions. And so we did, and we
- 48:26Speaker 22: got a random house to publish it, and the rest
- 48:32Speaker 22: is history.
- 48:32Speaker 40: It just.
- 48:35Speaker 22: Everybody wants to talk about different parts of its wonderful.
- 48:39Speaker 22: So I wrote a Wonderful Life for Kids book because
- 48:43Speaker 22: parents would always tell me, oh, I have my I
- 48:46Speaker 22: sat down with my family, my dad and mom, and
- 48:49Speaker 22: watched it. And now I have a family and they
- 48:52Speaker 22: sit down and watch it too, and I and they
- 48:55Speaker 22: introduced me to their little six year old or whatever.
- 48:58Speaker 22: I said, your dad, make you watch that movie about
- 49:01Speaker 22: banking and everything. And I said, they don't know about banking,
- 49:05Speaker 22: but kids know about certain things. So I wrote the
- 49:11Speaker 22: movie and my new book from the point of view
- 49:14Speaker 22: of Tommy Bailey. And he has to take over a
- 49:20Speaker 22: big school project and raise eighty dollars for getting books
- 49:26Speaker 22: for the school, and he loses it. And now a
- 49:29Speaker 22: little kid the age of these readers are going through
- 49:35Speaker 22: the same thing. They get to see what life would
- 49:37Speaker 22: have been like if they weren't born. So I have
- 49:41Speaker 22: different things, but this new one is extremely different. I
- 49:44Speaker 22: got a different photo for the cover of the book
- 49:48Speaker 22: that captures the Bailey family and nobody's ever used this
- 49:51Speaker 22: photo or gotten it before. So the book is all different,
- 49:56Speaker 22: and the just a look and a feel. But the reader,
- 50:01Speaker 22: you're important.
- 50:02Speaker 1: So do you go for what do you remember?
- 50:06Speaker 4: Again?
- 50:07Speaker 1: How old were you at the time, Jimmy four and
- 50:10Speaker 1: a half?
- 50:10Speaker 4: Four and a half a half A big deal. Yeah,
- 50:13Speaker 4: the half is a big deal.
- 50:14Speaker 1: But what memories do you have just making that film?
- 50:21Speaker 22: It's vivid now. I've been very fortunate in my acting career.
- 50:25Speaker 22: I did over forty.
- 50:26Speaker 27: Movies, and i did over three hundred TV shows.
- 50:31Speaker 22: And I've seen movies that I did at seven or
- 50:35Speaker 22: eight and I don't ever remember doing them. I don't
- 50:38Speaker 22: remember going to the studio or anything. But yet it's
- 50:42Speaker 22: wonderful if it's very vivid. I remember having to get
- 50:46Speaker 22: up early it was dark, and go with street cars
- 50:49Speaker 22: and buses to the studio and get there and be
- 50:53Speaker 22: on that set, you know, everybody running around lights on
- 50:57Speaker 22: big Christmas tree in May and snow on the ground
- 51:02Speaker 22: in front of the house on the stage, and I
- 51:06Speaker 22: remember Capra squatting down telling me what he wanted me
- 51:10Speaker 22: to do in a scene, say excuse me here, Yeah,
- 51:14Speaker 22: and sitting with Jimmy Stewart's flap put tinsel on his head.
- 51:19Speaker 22: He would give me a lot of business to do
- 51:22Speaker 22: in between dialogue, and it's so vivid, and I go,
- 51:27Speaker 22: why why do I remember that so vividly at four
- 51:31Speaker 22: and a half? Yet stuff you did at seven you
- 51:34Speaker 22: don't even remember. So I was blessed all along with
- 51:39Speaker 22: this film and keeping it going and telling people more
- 51:44Speaker 22: about it and more about it. It's just it's been
- 51:49Speaker 22: very blessed to be able to talk about it and
- 51:53Speaker 22: carry Frank Capra's message because he's not here anymore. So
- 51:57Speaker 22: the Daily Kids carried out for him. And now there's
- 52:01Speaker 22: two of us left and me and Carolyn grime Zuzu.
- 52:06Speaker 22: Janie has some health issues and she hasn't been able
- 52:09Speaker 22: to join us, but she was a big, big, big
- 52:12Speaker 22: part of our last thirty years and.
- 52:17Speaker 27: She's wonderful.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Give me a Jimmy Stewart story. Can you give me
- 52:21Speaker 2: a good Jimmy Stewart story.
- 52:26Speaker 27: Before or after?
- 52:27Speaker 11: Well?
- 52:28Speaker 27: I remember talking to him about the movie at a.
- 52:33Speaker 22: Party and the colorization, yes, yes, come up And what
- 52:41Speaker 22: he thought of the colorization was funny to me. He
- 52:45Speaker 22: told me, he says, you know, Jimmy looks like Walt
- 52:48Speaker 22: Disney threw up on it.
- 52:55Speaker 27: Very nice man, very giving. I'd sent him.
- 52:59Speaker 22: I had a fifth anniversary book, Big Coffee Table Book
- 53:03Speaker 22: came out, and I sent him a bunch of copies
- 53:06Speaker 22: to sign for various charities. And at that time he
- 53:13Speaker 22: passed away, and the next week the books came back,
- 53:17Speaker 22: all signed. So he was giving to the end to me.
- 53:20Speaker 22: And he was just a giver in life. He just
- 53:24Speaker 22: was that kind of person.
- 53:26Speaker 27: And so.
- 53:30Speaker 22: Any story about Jimmy Stewart's a nice story. It's a
- 53:34Speaker 22: true story. If people tell you something nice and they
- 53:37Speaker 22: you say, well, you didn't know him.
- 53:39Speaker 27: A lot of people they want dirt.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Sure, you know, sure.
- 53:42Speaker 27: I co starred Elvis in a couple of films, and people.
- 53:45Speaker 22: All want to know all about his wonderful life. And
- 53:48Speaker 22: then at the end they lean in and say.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Elvis, Yeah, he wasn't really that nice.
- 53:53Speaker 40: Was he.
- 53:54Speaker 27: Oh he was great, He really was.
- 53:57Speaker 2: And that's what everybody will tell you. Everybody that knew
- 53:59Speaker 2: of we'll say the same thing.
- 54:02Speaker 27: Yeah, and he was.
- 54:03Speaker 22: He just made you feel at home and relax and
- 54:06Speaker 22: tell a joke and you know, do some business on
- 54:10Speaker 22: the in a scene he all, I like that.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Do that again, Jimmy.
- 54:13Speaker 2: What what is it that continues to this day to
