Latest / Hurdle with Emily Abbate / 5-MINUTE FRIDAY: What Does Self-Love Look Like For You Right Now?
Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily ABOUDI here. You are listening to another
- 0:25Speaker 1: installment of five Minute Friday Long Longside. It's been a
- 0:33Speaker 1: really hectic twenty four hours for me for reasons that
- 0:37Speaker 1: I'm not really going to go into just right now,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but just dealing with a little bit of a health
- 0:45Speaker 1: scare in my family, and I have been using a
- 0:52Speaker 1: lot of tools in my toolbox that I want to
- 0:55Speaker 1: talk about for today's episode. So I'll start by saying
- 1:00Speaker 1: that I recently began the book Lighter by Young Ployblow,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and at the end of every chapter, I'm literally opening
- 1:08Speaker 1: up this book right now. There are reflection prompts, and
- 1:13Speaker 1: one of those prompts is what does self love look
- 1:16Speaker 1: like for you right now? And how do you want
- 1:18Speaker 1: your self love to evolve? And what do you want
- 1:22Speaker 1: it to feel like a year from now. I guess
- 1:24Speaker 1: that was kind of like one prompt, but a three
- 1:26Speaker 1: part prompt, if you will. And so I was sitting
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the getaway cabin I took my mom to. They
- 1:35Speaker 1: have these cute little cabins. They're kind of all over
- 1:37Speaker 1: the United States now, but there's an outpost in an
- 1:41Speaker 1: area of Connecticut called Moodis and I took her there
- 1:45Speaker 1: for and overnight the other day, and so I woke
- 1:47Speaker 1: up and I was reading my book and writing on
- 1:49Speaker 1: this prompt, and what came up for me is that
- 1:54Speaker 1: self love moving forward is going to be something that
- 1:57Speaker 1: feels more intuitive and less like something that I need
- 2:01Speaker 1: to go out of my way to do. I want
- 2:04Speaker 1: to have less guilt over some of the practices that
- 2:07Speaker 1: I know can help me be me and move forward
- 2:11Speaker 1: in a way that, yeah, it just feels more like
- 2:16Speaker 1: a part of me. And as I sat at the
- 2:20Speaker 1: top of this just navigating a really stressful past twenty
- 2:23Speaker 1: four hours, today self love happened without question for me,
- 2:30Speaker 1: self love meant I needed to cancel my meetings. I
- 2:35Speaker 1: realize I'm saying today, and it's you're listening to this
- 2:38Speaker 1: on Friday and I'm recording this on Thursday. But you
- 2:40Speaker 1: get the picture. So I canceled my meetings, knowing that
- 2:44Speaker 1: none of them were life or death matters. I decided,
- 2:49Speaker 1: when I was feeling anxious and frustrated about admittedly things
- 2:53Speaker 1: that I could do nothing about, to get up and
- 2:58Speaker 1: go walk and get outside. I took time to call
- 3:02Speaker 1: people that support me and allowed them to show up
- 3:07Speaker 1: for me. And all of these things. They sound simple enough,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but many are acts that I would have felt guilty in,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I guess indulging in If something like this were to
- 3:23Speaker 1: happen previously, I would have plowed through right and plowing
- 3:27Speaker 1: through today just didn't feel like an option. And as
- 3:32Speaker 1: much as I'm just trying to figure out the best
- 3:34Speaker 1: way to push forward, I am proud that pushing forward
- 3:38Speaker 1: for me right now looks like having grace with myself.
- 3:43Speaker 1: That for me, that's a really big growth moment. And
- 3:47Speaker 1: so I tell you this story because I want to
- 3:52Speaker 1: encourage you to be able to get to a place
- 3:56Speaker 1: where you two have this level of grace where you
- 4:00Speaker 1: can listen to your intuition and your gut on the
- 4:03Speaker 1: good days and the bad days, and know a little
- 4:06Speaker 1: bit more about what it is that you need to
- 4:09Speaker 1: do to best show up for you, to know that
- 4:13Speaker 1: in order to be there for others, something that I
- 4:17Speaker 1: personally resonate so highly with, something that is ingrained in
- 4:21Speaker 1: who I am, is acts of service and helping other people.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But in order to do that, I need to first
- 4:26Speaker 1: show up for myself. And if I cannot place that
- 4:30Speaker 1: same importance, if I cannot invest in myself. Then I
- 4:33Speaker 1: know that no matter what I do, I will not
- 4:36Speaker 1: be as good at doing the thing that is so
- 4:39Speaker 1: important to me in showing up for others. And so
- 4:45Speaker 1: my prompt for you this week is really the prompt
- 4:48Speaker 1: that I answered from Young Pueblo. Again, I'll say it.
- 4:53Speaker 1: What does self love look like for you right now?
- 4:57Speaker 1: How do you want your self love to evolve? And
- 5:00Speaker 1: what do you want it to feel like a year
- 5:03Speaker 1: from now? I want to reiterate that self love doesn't
- 5:09Speaker 1: just happen in good times or in bad times, and
- 5:12Speaker 1: it can evolve and adapt and morph depending on what
- 5:16Speaker 1: it is that you truly need. But when we get
- 5:19Speaker 1: more clear on what it is that our inner voice
- 5:23Speaker 1: is saying, when we can get really clear on what
- 5:27Speaker 1: it feels like, what we want to feel like when
- 5:30Speaker 1: we take care of ourselves, that that's so so important.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And now a listener question. Hey, Emily, it's almost Valentine's Day,
- 5:43Speaker 1: So I was curious, what is your idea of the
- 5:47Speaker 1: perfect date? Oh Man, Valentine's Day? This year, It's like
- 5:54Speaker 1: the last thing on my radar. Although I am kind
- 5:56Speaker 1: of a sucker, I'm a sucker for love. I love love,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but I can't say that I've had like a memorable
- 6:03Speaker 1: Valentine's Day in the last handful of years. Anyway, I
- 6:06Speaker 1: digress my perfect date. However, Honestly, when I hear that question,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I can tell you what I'd like to be doing,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and it probably just involves like good food and good
- 6:18Speaker 1: drinks and a good person. But the good person and
- 6:22Speaker 1: how I want to feel is actually what in my
- 6:25Speaker 1: mind makes a perfect date. Like on a perfect date,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I want to feel seen and heard. I want to
- 6:32Speaker 1: be able to ask questions and answer questions. I want
- 6:35Speaker 1: this person to be interested in me and open to
- 6:38Speaker 1: hearing my perspective. I want to feel like I am
- 6:44Speaker 1: someone that they're attracted to. I would also like for
- 6:46Speaker 1: them to be someone that I'm attracted to. And I
- 6:50Speaker 1: think those are really my key takeaways of what I
- 6:54Speaker 1: think about when it comes to a perfect date. Is
- 6:57Speaker 1: really the feeling of spending time with someone that makes
- 7:03Speaker 1: you feel like a good version of you, like your
- 7:06Speaker 1: best you, and also like all the butterflies. Those are
- 7:10Speaker 1: cool too. If I had to get really specific, though,
- 7:14Speaker 1: rewinding to the food and drink thing, I mean, it's
- 7:17Speaker 1: no secret I am a bar premie kind of girl.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It's a restaurant in New York, down on Bowery. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: also love when a date plans the date, although I
- 7:28Speaker 1: don't have any hesitation, like if they need a suggestion
- 7:31Speaker 1: or something, I'm happy to chime in. But I am
- 7:34Speaker 1: definitely an old school kind of girl. Wow, what a
- 7:40Speaker 1: what an up and down kind of five minute Friday?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Life is crazy, but every day's a new day, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: so let's get this one. Another hurdle conquered. Catch you
- 7:55Speaker 1: guys next time, lay lay hand.
